Reviews (page 5 of 12)
Really well crafted album. I remember all the hype about it when it came out. Back then didn't particularly get it. Listening back all these years later I can now see why it Was so popular.
good
Nostalgia trip! Had fun revisiting Arcade Fire!
It takes me back to the 2010s indy wave. Very enjoyable album!
I hadn't heard this one before but I enjoyed it very much, it reminded me of early wolf parade and their adjacent projects like operators, which I guess makes sense in retrospect since dan plays with these guys now. no cars go and black wave/bad vibrations were the highlights for me.
This was a solid listen. I was impressed by the diversity of sounds that were on display on Neon Bible. I enjoyed a couple songs enough to add them to my shuffle list which I didn't expect going in. I enjoyed this much more than the prior Arcade Fire entry on the list. This gave me a little more perspective on them as a band and maybe I have to delve in to the a little further. 3.5 stars
4 Stars (11/15)
Strong album. Good songs throughout. My favorite is Ocean of Noise
very good!
Saved Prior: Keep the Car Running, No Cars Go Off Rip: Black Mirror, Black Wave / Vibrations, The Well and the Lighthouse, (Antichrist Television Blues), My Body Is a Cage Cutting Edge: None Overall Notes: Lots of simmering emotion, but we never get the big moments of catharsis that I love in Funeral (My Body Is a Cage gets close but doesn't go for it completely). Still a 4.
7/10. Good album throughout. 3 songs made the playlist. Liked how the album flowed together.
Pretty good, the title track was boring but overall a very engaging album. not something i see myself actively returning too often, funeral and the suburbs are just better
WE BACK!!!! Everything gets a 4 Album had that unique sound that could be expected of some wack-ass indie band no one's ever heard of to try and capture, except this album is actually really good Black Mirror was the best song, although the album never fell off significantly, and there was quite a wide range of different themes within the same style explored. Other notable songs include Keep the Car Running, Intervention (bro is NOT bruce), Black Wave/Bad Vibrations, and No Cars Go. Additionally, the album was only 45 minutes, so it gets bumped up from a 2 to a 5, unfortunately they have a song called "(Antichrist..." so I have to knock them down to 4. (Also there's a lot of 4's I've given out that should probably be 3's, but this one is actually a 4. 4 likes and I'll email the guy)
Although Mr. Win hasn't had many wins in the past decade or so, the initial run of AF records can certainly be counted as a big W. I like to come back to this album every so often just to see how well it holds up when compared to a now, much more saturated "indie album landscape" and I gotta say, it's still among the best. Not many albums manage to have such simplistic arrangements that sound this big. I do think the album drags a bit throughout, but not in any one song in particular. But there are some tremendous tracks here that are required listening for anyone looking to understand more about indie rock.
This entry in the Book of Arcade Fire takes place between its two best chapters and falls short in comparison but remains an essential part of their story.
Good
Album divertido, algunas canciones muy buenas, producción interesante, muy bueno que haya sido literalmente grabado en una iglesia. Total album: 80
I thought this album was going to be an easy 5 as I loved it when it was released but it's not as good as I remember it being to be honest. Perhaps that comes from over-listening, but when Spotify played Laika when the album finished, I enjoyed that a lot more. It's still a good album, with several stand out tracks, but it just didn't hit the spot.
Angsty, middle-class, suburban, operatic, indie music. I like Arcade Fire
Utterly marvelous. I really enjoyed this a lot. I like Arcade Fire a lot, but have never really spent serious quality time with them.
4.5. Exceptional. Take that Sam
Really strong, lots going on. So many big hitters
I'm a little surprised Arcade Fire has 3 albums on the list. This one is not as good as Funeral but definitely better than subburbs. I like ~5 of the songs.
Great album, and one that figured prominently in an important time in my life, made slightly less great by later revelations of the lead singers problematic behavior.
The more I listen to this band. The more I like them. That said this doesn't even come close to their album the suburbs
A notch under debut *Funeral*, *Neon Bible* is, like the latter and follow-up LP *The Suburbs*, a pivotal chapter from Arcade Fire's golden age. I wonder if I have not unfairly given only four stars to *The Suburbs* on this app, by the way, as the latter only struck me with its brillance very recently, just as I revisited it -- if that's the case I can't give more than four stars to *Neon Bible*, even if I love it as well. Truth br told, that sophomore album is *very* close to a 4.5 stars in my book. Which basically means it's close to be rounded up to 5. All ratings shenanigans aside, *Neon Bible* offers a very cohesive yet also slightly disturbing vision of Win Butler and Régine Chassagne's one-of-a-kind indie melodic universe, filled with all sorts of troubled, neurotic, *Confederacy Of Dunces*-like characters trying to adapt to a post-9/11 world, here all gathered in a metaphorical church of sorts for freaks and misfits of all kinds (good thing that the LP was recorded in an actual church -- the echoey sound fits with the songs' moods and thematic imprints so well). This record is very *postmodern*, in a way, which is why its apparent "grandiosity" must be taken with a huge grain of salt, as songs such as "(Antichrist Television Blues)" proves -- and that aspect of the album is still a little misunderstood to this day imho. Another peculiar thing about it is that it picks up steam in its middle, when the formidable "The Well And The Lighthouse" surges. And the album ends on two essential Arcade Fire songs. First there's the epic and mock-utopian "No Cars Go", which is actually a new, more pristine version of a song already recorded for AF's first EP (both versions are great and have assets their counterparts don't have). And then there's the short but extraordinarily soulful "My Body Is A Cage", concluding the proceedings on an absolute bang. If only for that last leg, this album must be in the list. 4/5 for the purposes of this list of essential albums. 9/10 for more general purposes (5 + 4) Number of albums left to review: 8 (plus the 80-ish extra LPs listed on this app, included because different past versions of the book have mentioned albums that have since been dropped in subsequent editions) Number of albums from the list I find relevant enough to be mandatory listens: 427 (including this one) Albums from the list I *might* include in mine later on: 254 Albums from the list I won't include in mine: 314
Dans la tradition du groupe, dense, polyphonique. Ici l'orgue illustre bien les thèmes d'aliénation exploités
Rating: 8/10
Just about a year since I got The Suburbs on here, this is their second album, which came between Funeral and The Suburbs. While I knew The Suburbs well before this, I hadn't listened to this one at all before. Overall I really enjoyed this a lot. It has a really big sound throughout. They added their violinist on this album, and there are a whole bunch of other orchestra musicians that are involved in this, which gives it this very grand and orchestral sound. Even more minimal songs (like "Neon Bible") feel big, and then there's things like "Intervention" where there's a whole church organ thing going on. I don't have any major complaints about this album overall and I added almost every song to my playlist. It's really consistently enjoyable, but still something feels just a little lacking compared to The Suburbs. I'm perfectly willing to admit that it might just be my familiarity with The Suburbs and this one might grow on me more with time, but I don't think it's quite as strong right now. I do think I might be overly harsh though, as this is music that is 100% right up my alley, so I'm putting it in the context of all the music that I love (much of which isn't on this list). "My Body Is a Cage" is a cold final song though, I'm a big fan. "(Antichrist Television Blues)" is also a highlight on the back half. Anyway, I'm rambling, this is a really solid album by a band that I like a lot. Would recommend. Favorite song: My Body Is a Cage Other: Black Mirror, Keep the Car Running, Neon Bible, Intervention, Ocean of Noise, The Well and the Lighthouse, (Antichrist Television Blues), Windowsill, No Cars Go 11/8/24
Bra platta. Starka låtar rakt igenom. Ingen som står ut som dunderhit, men ett jämnstarkt album.
Solid album. I liked it
Another great drama class indie rock pearl.
I continue to be baffled by the selection process for this list. After 300+ albums, my main complaint is how often they select a band's first album since I thought the point of this list was "influential" albums, and many times (not always!) bands are kinda working out the kinks and finding their sound on their first album, and they dial it in and become good/popular/influential on their later albums. In this case, this is neither the first nor the best album by Arcade Fire in my opinion. I love the songs "Keep the Car Running" and "No Cars Go" but the rest of the album kinda blends together. I don't dislike the other songs, but this is not an album I ever choose to listen to from start to finish, so I kinda wish they had picked The Suburbs instead. Anyway, I generally like Arcade Fire and their expansive sound, but I also generally don't love everything they do. They're good and they're unique and I appreciate their whole vibe, but intrinsically they're not a 5 star band for me. 3.8
A mix of so many different influenves and vibes - To me, the style gets tiring after a bit, but still true and great
Organs!
I’m too old for this to be “the music of my youth” so I never listened to a full Arcade Fire album before today. But I have always heard that Arcade Fire was on the vanguard of this generation of indie rock. I quite liked this. Good energy, musicianship and lyrics; I will seek out more of their work. 4⭐️
I have listened to this album at least two dozen times over the last decade and a half, giving it a new chance every time I do. And I do this because I consider the albums that are chronologically on either side of it, the spontaneity of "Funeral" and the oppressing undercurrent of "The Suburbs," absolute masterpieces. But the spark I have with those albums, as well with "Reflektor," never happened to me with the dark "Neon Bible". While I really appreciate some of the highlights of this album, like "Intervention" and "No Cars Go," the whole is a bit too much bombast, a bit too much kitsch. It's a 3,5* for me
I do like the sound of the album it has an indie intensity that is strong here but its influence seems unfortunate with bands like Imagine Dragons. I do think the intensity feels like they churn out the same thing song after song but it’s not a terrible song…. With so many musicians you would think they could create a more varied output.
Montreal indie rockers Arcade Fire had a pretty steady ascent to fame, arguably peaking with their third album The Suburbs which netted them a Grammy for Album of the Year after two prior albums only getting nominated for Best Alternative Music Album. In retrospect, Neon Bible only seems like a stepping stone for the band, but in a vacuum it's a great bit of indie rock that highlights how ambitious the band can really be.
# Album Name: Neon Bible # Artist: Arcade Fire # Rating: 4/5 # Comments: Really good start to the album with black mirror, keep the car running and neon bible. The first two songs are quite upbeat and rocking then neon bible takes the tones right down. The album does lull in the middle but finishes on a strong with the final two tracks - no cars go and my body is a cage. 5 or 6 good tracks on an album is a cracking effort. Yes, it is a bit 00's indie but its a good listen. # Top Tunes: lack mirror, keep the car running and neon bible no cars go and my body is a cage # Would I listen to it again? Probably the 5-6 tracks i mentioned. Bin the rest
Great energy on this one! Pop, a little bit bluesy at times. Mixes things up, loads of layers, the album flies by. Very enjoyable.
Ending on a resounding note, this is very good, and I enjoyed it greatly.
" I get it now" -- Frank Reynolds. I loved this album, I wish I could listen to it more but I am like two weeks behind this challenge. Fantastic listen, love them now.
I can honestly say I liked this album more than their third album in their "golden trifecta" of albums, although that seems to be against the norm compared to the other reviews I read of this album on here. But who knows, I like Sam's Town more than Hot Fuss (of The Killers obviously) so maybe I'm just broken. That said I still don't get why arcade fire are as popular as they are. Although I enjoyed more songs off of this album and found a few stand outs very interesting + enjoyable to listen to, overall I still find arcade fire's sound very bland. Just a personal opinion. 4/5 for this album in particular. Maybe I'll like the next arcade fire more, as I'm assuming their first "golden" album made this list as well.
Great listen front to back. I look forward to getting the Suburbs.
7/10…
i genuinely hate when the band is good but the frontman is an abuser
i freak with it
Nicely made. Fairly exhausting by the end
Liked it, very 2000s/2010s indie teen movie. Probably wouldn’t play it through again but I didn’t mind it while it was on!
Another band that I knew was popular and was sure I had heard their music, but could not associate any songs with. I did recognize many of these songs and quite enjoyed the entire album.
Finally listening to this band! People said they were like friko and I see it a little, def very belle and Sebastian but more dark. I like a lot.
Intervention, No Cars Go and My Body Is A Cage are all amazing songs on one of the best albums of Arcade Fire.
De beste Arcade Fire zonder twijfel. Net geen 5, want er staan ook wel een paar minder goeie nummers tussen. Intervention blijft wel hun beste nummer ooit. 4.3
I have listened to a bit of Arcade Fire in the past. But not really anything on this album. I enjoyed it and would listen again. Simpsons: No
That was a lot better than I expected - a bit repetitive and self-indulgent but that's what indie is I guess.
This was actually a really enjoyable, peaceful listen. Songs that I liked: My Body is a Cage, No Cars Go, Ocean of Noise, Black Wave/Bad Vibrations, Intervention. I liked the background voices/ instruments in a lot of these songs.
Not private session used for Spotify. I am have managed to avoid the drama around the lead singer of this band, so I can hang back and join the passionate rock.
Enjoyed this, I think with more listens I would love it so I'm giving it a 4.
Enjoyed this one. Alternative 00s, what’s not to like?
The rise of a great band. AFter the lo-fi debut, here is where Arcade Fire really found their signature sound and took off. No cars go,,,, yeah!
The specific atmosphere of this album hit just right today, and I really enjoyed it. Grandiose, kind of melancholy, very catchy. Listened while driving home at sunset after dropping my sister off at the airport.
Great
almost a 5.
Well, I think this is great. Starts slowly, I'd say the first three tracks are probably the weakest on the album, definitely the weakest section, but Intervention is great and it just builds from there, I wouldn't skip any of the tracks after that. The big sound that comes from having the organ is great, but they probably play on it a bit too much and keep everything a bit too slow for a bit too long (even the fast start from a couple of the song fades away too quickly). Then the sound gets huge for the closer, which is utterly superb. 4/5.
I remember when this album was heavily marketed around release and I completely wrote it off as pretentious indie crap after only hearing little snippets here and there. But now that I'm a little older, and willing to broaden my horizons, I'm looking back at younger me wondering what an idiot I was; because 'Neon Bible' is a legitimately fantastic album. I know the majority of this was recorded in a renovated church; and I usually dismiss these kind of methods as inconsequential to the listener. However, I feel it actually does make an impact here. The sound oozing from each song is entirely gothic, ethereal, and mystical; almost as if you can visualize the very interior of the building they recorded in. You can feel all of this particularly in the double-crescendo the album leads to with 'No Cars Go' and 'My Body Is A Cage' - with their intense orchestral arrangements and haunting instrumentation. While Butler takes lead vocals on most tracks, I think where it really shines is when Chassagne joins him. They work incredibly well together. 'Black Wave/Bad Vibrations' and 'The Well And The Lighthouse' are also huge standouts as a result. It's also lyrically introspective, filled with questions regarding the commercialization of religion/faith, and chilling societal commentary; and it all combines into a very rewarding listen. At its very base, this would fall into the crowd of many albums college kids raved about around that time. But Arcade Fire set themselves apart by, not just adding the above elements, but exceeding with them.
Wonderful album from start to finish. One of the best bands from post 2000, and one of my three favourite Arcade Fire albums
Really enjoyed this! Very good. 4/5
pretty cool as background working music! actually kind of liked it, more on the chill vibes side
Nice
The best of the Arcade Fire albums I've had so far on this generator (also had The Suburbs, and Funeral). Favourite songs: Intervention, Windowsill, Keep the Car Running, The Well and the Lighthouse, (Antichrist Television Blues), No Cars Go Least favourite songs: My Body is a Cage 4/5
Good indie rock, but didn’t blow my socks off
Loved it
8/13/24. Arcade Fire is underappreciated I think. a lot of their songs don't sonud the same and they attempt to push their limits. This one is definitely woth a revisit!
Just as good as the other album. It was very close to a five just because of the whole set up and execution of the album was amazing
Quite enjoyed this. Much like “The Suburbs” it had a very nice sound and the lyrics, while they didn’t make 100% sense 100% of the time, were at least interesting and attention grabbing. I thought Win’s voice sounded good, much better than on “Funeral” which I did not like nearly as much. Overall a very solid album that I would listen to again.
Moody textured and philosophical
4.4
First listen, liked it, worth playing again.
Cracking album, can’t believe it’s 20 years since it was released.
Bold and exuberant. Rich, multi-layered orchestration. Unique and varied instrumentation (mandolins, flutes, strings, horns, and a goddam church pipe organ!). And it all rocks! No one else sounds like Arcade Fire...(except when they're doing their Springsteen impersonation...see "Keep the Car Running" and "Antichrist Television Blues"...which are also great, btw). Despite its dark lyrics and heavy subject matter, the album somehow maintains an anthemic, cathartic, and triumphant tone. Every track is a keeper, but the best are: Black Mirror Intervention Antichrist Television Blues And that closer...."My Body Is a Cage" Holy f@ck! What was THAT??!! I think their stunning debut, Funeral, is superior...but this is a worthy follow up.
So far I like it more than the other album by AF I had earlier. It sounds mixed better some how - it still very much sounds like arcade fire, they have such a cohesive sound. Not my favourite sound in the world but I have enjoyed this album. Loved no cars go and my body is a cage is brilliant 3.5/4
Rather than loving all of Arcade Fire I very much appreciate their music. I think the pain they sing about or through perhaps is something I'm unfamiliar with or haven't processed yet. There are some specific songs I really like in the middle stretch, especially "(Antichrist Television Blues)". There's just a slight lethargy that feels American and not personally resonant. Maybe the next year will change that for me. This (a repeat comment) is music that I think would really change if seen live - might just be the fact that I have to use stupid adapters to actually listen to it but I suppose there's something satisfyingly begrudging about that. Really growing into the album. "No Cars Go" is great and punchy, like I'm running about in a park. 4.05 is predicated very much on an appreciation of how "good" the overall musical quality is. Wouldn't say I prefer it to some other albums with similar ratings but it itches a different scratch. Was going to say that the final song wasn't changing my mind but that switch-up was great - really an album that I want better headphones for. Upping to 4.1.
Yup, solid. Deserved the acclaim it got at the time.
One of the standards for indie music of this era. Lots of great songs.
Three of AF's albums in the first 150 I have listened to. This album is fine start to finish. Interesting lyrics, music and themes. Notable song is "Keep the Car Running" and "Intervention".
Solid
I've never listened to this album before (don't judge, I've probably heard stuff on this list that you haven't...) It's big, grand, I like the churchy scale of it and the organ. I know Arcade Fire was an influential band, and this is a pretty interesting listen, so a spot on this list for this album seems fair enough. 3.5
Muy bueno.
Two years ago, Arcade Fire’s earnest, wholesome appeal was punctured when everyman Win Butler received four sexual assault allegations. At the time, I worshipped “Funeral” and “The Suburbs”and was gutted by the news. My appetite to discover the band’s wider discography shrivelled and died, and I haven’t heard anything of any of their other albums since. Now, on the very day Arcade Fire are playing “Funeral” in London (I considered it, but persuaded myself not to go) this album appears, forcing me to listen to them. And to muddy the waters of my convictions even more, “Neon Bible” turned out to be really great. Curse you, album gods! This is the band’s second album, and has the daunting challenge of building upon one of the most revered debut albums ever in “Funeral”. Despite the name, the streamlined, Tron-like album art and much reference to technology and alienation, “Neon Bible” isn’t too far removed from the sound of “Funeral”. It’s a fair bit more grandiose- cranking up the reverb and slathering organ everywhere- but there are touches of the homespun and baroque too (harpsichord here, string quartet there, mandolin or glockenspiel elsewhere, etc…) “Neon Bible” isn’t an album for subtlety, as the bigger the sound grows, the more satisfying it is. On the one hand, opener “Black Mirror” is a slightly underwhelming smudge of sound, the title track is a muted dud and “Ocean of Noise” takes until the outro to get off the ground. But on the other, “Keep the Car Running” is a glistening adrenaline rush. “Intervention” is a seismic prayer into the void. And towards the end of the record, the desperation of young adulthood tips over into melodrama, with the haunted folk of “(Antichrist Television Blues)” and the stirring “Windowsill”. But it’s the one-two punch at the end which seals “Neon Bible” as a strong album, standing as two of the best songs I’ve heard by the band. “No Cars Go” is soaring, transcendent, and possibly the most epic song in existence to wield an accordion refrain. “My Body Is A Cage” goes one further, with a truly epic outro which shatters everything before it and can only leave silence. I was not at all surprised to read the album was mostly recorded in a church. “Neon Bible” doesn’t quite reach the heights of the two albums either side of it in the band’s career, but today it gave me an excuse to indulge and enjoy Arcade Fire again. For that, I’m very grateful.
This was great stuff, I liked it a lot better than funeral
This was decent, definitely better for me than Funeral. I think this is one I would likely want to listen to again. 3.5/5
I really thought I wasn't gonna like this, after Funeral did nothing for me, and Reflektor not really doing much for me either. However, I really like this album. I don't know why, but it gets me in a way the others didn't. It honestly has me wanting to recheck out those other albums, and the others I haven't heard. 4/5
Wow! The percussion overall was a big highlight on this album, truth be told I’ve never listened to this one yet but it holds up to the rest of theirs. 3.5
P fun
I wish there was an Arcade Fire album I liked in its entirety. The highs are high the lows are boring. This particular album is really frustrating to me because there are so many songs that i could almost really enjoy.
Not I! I have heard of multiple Arcade Fire albums, but never this one. I was surprised to see this on the list, but it is my official introduction to Arcade Fire and I like what I heard. I’m excited to hear there other albums on the list whenever I get them.
Arcade Fire is a band I don’t actively listen to, but always quite enjoy their music when I do!
Favourite tracks: my body is a cage; black mirror; keep the car running
The kind of nostalgia that hurts to listen to. I can barely listen to this album without feeling horrible about where my life is and the regrets I have. Amazing album though. So glad to have found it.

77/100
Nice sound. Kinda epic and crunchy. And the lyrics are pretty good too.
Hmm… I get why people are crazy about Arcade Fire. But their lyrics…
I enjoyed this more than I expected, but I also can't see me listening to it again.
An album that’s dark, yet warm in its sound. It feels similar to Orchestral Manoeuvres in the Dark’s album Organisation. This was a strong, emotionally-packed record!
Solid sophomore LP. Great arrangements and production
I bought this album as soon as it came out because I loved the artwork and I was curious about the band. Man, did I luck out. The glorious aural scope of many of these songs still resonates 17yrs on. It’s my favourite Arcade Fire disc.
Lovely record.
Take the glorifying and orchestrally complex indie music of Funeral, and add in darkness and angst. Continuous through theme, it paints a dark image of the American dream as it came to be, not how it is described. This really hit when I found it in 9th grade and still has as I've aged. I've always felt the complexity and thoughtfulness of the music helps accentuate the anxious mind as we work through issues and feelings like these concepts in real life.
Ha doing well so far have already heard 3 of 5 of these albums. Arcade Fire is great! Love this album. Suburbs is my fav but this is one of my next favs by them.
Hørte den halvanden gang. Den kunne nok godt have været lyttet mere. Der er et par sange som jeg havde lyst til at skippe, fordi de trak tempoet ud. (Titel sangen, og åbneren.) Men ellers et virkelig behageligt lyt men nogen kæmpe numre på.
Grandiøst lydende indie rock
Smacks somewhat of the lyrical sensibilities of Springsteen coupled with the grander orchestration of Cold Play. The latter somewhat undermines the former at times, but all in all I like this band.
They’ve perfected the second half crescendo, with a driving beat (and organ) that beg for this album to be used in celebration/as a pick-me-up. Just right for the last day of the year with students.
It's hard to go wrong with Arcade Fire's first few albums. This one doesn't blow me away like Funeral does, but there's very little here that I have to complain about.
Canada's finest.
This is maybe a bit art-indie for me, it's very grandiose and trying a bit too hard, but actually it pulls off without being too self-important thanks to some great tracks, in fact, mostly great tracks. Black Mirror, Windowsill, and of course My Body is a Cage all stand-outs. One of the most unexpectedly enjoyable albums I have heard so far.
Good album.
This album deserves headphones. It should be played at an absurd volume. It is a bold, voluptuous album. You can listen to just one instrument for a whole song and then go back and listen again for another and it's another song entirely. It is an album I have never stopped coming back to, since it landed.
Another amazing album. Listened to Funeral and did not like it, so expectations for this album were low but from the first track it clicked in my brain and i really like this album. Might have to go back to funeral soon and see if my opinion changes
Enjoyed the album, listening to it while catching up at work I didn't pay a whole lot of attention but I'll listen it again.
Probably better than I think it is. I think I prefer the EP with No Cars Go
9/10
YOOOOOO...
I enjoyed this album. The tracks were fun to sing along too and reminded me a lot of the killers for some reason.
Its a classic band but i felt that this sound wasn't the mature soud of this band.
An album that I had actually listened to before! My Body Is a Cage has become one of my favorite songs ever, and it happened because I randomly saw an edit of Once Upon a Time in the West with it.
I was obsessed with the first three Arcade Fire albums - they are a very dramatic band and they came out when I was a dramatic adolescent/young adult. The single that came out in 2022 was among the most crap songs that I've heard in the past few years and it turns out that their frontman has joined the hallowed pantheon of dirtbag rock singers, but I think this album will give me the good nostalgia feels today.
ihre stimme nervt und er ist 1 creep aber es ist trotzdem ein gutes album gute geigen nostalgie +punkt...
Another surprise from Arcade Fire, where I realize that if I had listened to them in my early teenage years (instead of avoiding them because I associated them with a certain type of person) I would've been a very different type of annoying! Good stuff here! This is a very high 4 for me. I can't give it a 5 due to fundamentally being trained to view this sort of thing as inherently annoying and cringey, but who am I to say no to a little baroque pop.... Can't stop thinking about the middle of My Body Is a Cage, where it bursts into The Beatles I Want You (She's So Heavy).... the Beatles really were the greatest to do it. Anyway, back to Arcade Fire! Favorites: Intervention, the Well and the Lighthouse, (Antichrist Television Blues), Windowsill
Pretty decent album
Definitely more than the sum of its parts. Not Arcade Fire’s best album, and some songs here, taken individually, are pretty weak. But the whole thing builds in a good way. I like the placement of the “No Cars Go” climax with the denouement of “My Body is a Cage”.
Never heard anything from them that wasn't Funeral, glad to make it out of that group. Neon Bible is a very grand, very ambitious and well structured album. Lots of emotion poured into the lyrics and lots of thought put into the build up of each song. Most of the time I can feel myself getting lost in the production and I don't mind it at all. The drums and strings just do it for me every time it's ridiculous. I feel free, I feel at peace. The entirety of Black Mirror and No Cars Go are thrilling and addictive every time I hear them. I would recommend putting your friends and family onto this LP. Stellar intro, Stellar exit. Few tracks I felt a little more meh but good regardless.
Few songs to go
I like it. I liked today, out for lunch in a cafe in a hidden corner, and sitting by the river in the sunny afternoon with Lucas. this fit well will the long and chill evening which capped off a long and gloriously unproductive week. I just don't really get why this album's on this list. it feels good, and polished, yet kind of... default. but, then I guess that's why
I gave this a second listen and I'm glad I did. It made a much stronger impression the second time through. Some good tunes. I am not sure if this record is inspired, or not, but it certainly has quality. Unique sound.
I don't think I really ever heard Arcade Fire before this, but listened to many other bands similar to their sound. I will say, I definitely really enjoyed this album. "Keep The Car Running" was probably my favorite song off of this album, and definitely hit a nostalgia bone in body that brought me back to high-school - driving around at night with my friends, trying to not get in trouble somewhere but embracing what we though was "freedom" at the time. There were a few songs that kind of blended together for me or that didn't hit as hard as that one, which is why I am hesitant to give it a perfect 5 star rating. But I will say, this is an album I will happily return to! Maybe in time, it will grow into a 5. Favorite songs and top mentions: Keep The Car Running, Windowsill, Antichrist Television Blues, and No Cars Go.
Not the album to get into after a day of baseball, drinking, and sunshine, although just about right for the morning after. Glad I gave it a second chance. Did I hear cello? Glockenspiel? This is really well put together. Not something I'll likely go back to, but I can really appreciate what they put into this. Rounding up to 4 stars
another one i'm surprised ive never heard in whole. I think this is a great record. In a similar way to Ella Fitzgerald listening to this sound like a record someone made to mimic Fall Out Boy when really this record is what created the impression.
One star off because Winn's a creep. Soundtrack of my life for a year back then.
i really like Arcade Fire
C'était vraiment cool.
Much preferred this one over funeral. Out is the somewhat boring indie rock, in with the more uptempo and upbeat instrumentation. The electronic touches are nice too. Sounds a lot like what a lot of early 2010’s rock tried to be.
Neben Orchester und Chor verwendet das eine Drehleier , eine Mandoline , ein Akkordeon und eine Pfeifenorgel. Dies macht die teil rockigen teils poppigen Songs aus dem Jahr 2007 interessant und kurzweilig. Gut gefallen haben „Intervention“, „No Cars Go“ und das furiose Orgelfinale „My Body Is A Cage“. Zur Wiederholung empfohlen.
Pretty decent, more of a 3.5 but I feel it may grow on me
Good one, liked them from back in the day...
Great alternative albu
4.1 I like arcade fire and I like this, but they do have better albums. IMO Arcade Fire is one of the few popular modern bands, that still have a lot of artistic integrity.
- Pretty good indie vibes - I feel like I gotta go back to this album and listen to it more - The Well and the Lighthouse is a banger - Interesting how the most popular songs are the last two on the album
Gets overshadowed by Funeral and career best The Suburbs, but this is a terrific AF album. It’s not as consistent as either of those albums though standouts like Keep the Car Running, Intervention, and (Antichrist Television Blues) reach similar heights. My Body Is a Cage is an incredible closing track.
I think I preferred the suburbs but again the album was a real grower and I think I need a couple more listens to be sure. Arcade fire don't have any obvious hooks and I'm not sure what I enjoy so much about them. They definitely sound darker and more unexpected than most indie bands. There were some weaker tracks that while not being bad just didn't go anywhere. Right now it's a 4 but likely to change.
Since "The Suburbs" came on this list I have grown to love it more and more, so getting another Arcade Fire album is a nice surprise. Just like "The Suburbs" I think this is an album that I'm going to enjoy more with subsequent listens but I don't think it quite reaches the same level. I really like Peter Gabriel's version of "My Body Is a Cage", I had not realised it was originally an Arcade Fire song. This version is also phenomenal, I love the build up of the organ. Highlights: Keep the Car Running Intervention My Body Is a Cage
Not as good as suburbs, but still very good. I'm surprised how many arcade fire songs I know, given I've never listened to them before. Highlights here were: Keep the car running No cars go Intervention 3.5, but closer to a 4
I fell like I’ve been living under a rock because I’ve never heard of them until this morning. This album took me by surprise to say the least and I thoroughly enjoyed every track on the album. Such an easy listen and especially great for a train ride into the city. Definitely adding this album into the rotation!
I really like Arcade Fire. This is a good album and worth 4 stars.
The organ was an unexpected and delightfully over the top touch! It and the crystal clear production helped dress up occasionally awkward lyrics.
4 - Solid good album, on the verge of me wondering why it's on the list but maybe it's because the more modern albums are too close? Dunno if that makes sense but i'm going with it
I know of two people called Win. This guy and the dog that lives at arsenal's training ground. I liked this but I've never given arcade fire much time. 4 for now but maybe I could love it.
love arcade fire!
Loved it!
Really enjoyed the drums in this one. Really unique.
Had never heard this group or album before. I really enjoyed it. Definitely gonna look up more of their music. I was wondering if this would ever happen in this over 3 year endeavor. Well done 1001 album generator.
This isn't their best work, but it's pretty damn fine. Would prefer The Suburbs
I really liked this - it was grandiose and entertaining and different and I loved the church acoustics/theme. I’m rating it a 4 but it was almost a 5 for me.
Some of these reviews are dumb. If you don’t like it, you don’t like it. Whatever. But to call this music “self-important” is stupid. These guys make solid rock music. Are they claiming to be the greatest? No. But I’m gonna say they’re my favorite band to ever come out of Canada.
excellent
Will listen again
Good. my fav track was the one about God, but I don't remember what it was called since I listened to this on a bus with my eyes closed half-asleep. It's nice to get an album that isn't from the sixties or seventies once in a while.
I wasn’t enamored with The Suburbs. I think they knew clearly what they wanted that album to be. But they just didn’t stick the landing very well. And it resulted in something that was more often than not dragging its feet and meandering around the same ideas. Fortunately, I think their previous album does a lot of things better. They definitely took too many steps back in the wrong direction for the follow up. Neon Bible is mostly more of the same from a musical perspective though. It’s nothing out of the ordinary for mid-2000s Arcade Fire. But it does so many things better to keep the album moving smoother. A shorter album overall, with a more balanced set of songs that don’t feel so dragged out and overdone. I still feel this band has one glaring flaw. Many of these songs reach what sounds like the beginning of a climactic moment. When everything comes together and makes all the build up worth it. And then it just never happens. Again, it’s that idea of meandering. This album isn’t as egregious with it as the other one was. But it still pops up here and there. I was ready to finish this off and keep it in the same regard as The Suburbs. But I’ll admit when I’m wrong. Because those last three songs really brought everything together, and made this feel like a complete package. I hear so much about Funeral, and if that record sounds anything close to the closing track on this, I feel like I’m in for a treat. Rating: 7/10
Sometimes, I think Arcade Fire is just generic indie 2000s rock, and sometimes, I guess I should look closer to Arcade Fire because it is pretty good stuff. This album was definitely the second case.
An odd selection from the Arcade Fire. I'm of similar age to the band, so their phases affect me similarly since I'm likely dealing with the same thing at the same time. This album always crosses me as an album about becoming an adult and aware of the noise around you, whereas their first album was more about the dreaming nostalgia of youth. The album speaks to me. (Antichrist Television Blues) is my highlight and positioned well into the album peaking with a existential crisis call. Slowly the album collapses under the passion of My Body is a Cage, the toil of growing up preventing the desires of the individual. The Arcade Fire often feels like a band of evens and odds. Their odd numbered albums, to me, are the most acclaimed. The evens are sneaky. This is an even album. It's sneaky. I don't think it should be on this list, but I do love it.
Good alternative rock.
Breathtaking production with catchy chord progressions. Mixing may be off as the vocals may be hard to hear.
1. Black Mirror - 2.5/5 2. Keep the Car Running - 5/5 3. Neon Bible - 4. Intervention 5. Black Wave / Bad Vibrations - 6. Ocean of Noise 7. The Well and the Lighthouse - 4/5. I like the lulling/lilting sort of melody? Idk how to explain that. I think it's the time signature. 8. (Antichrist Television Blues) - (okay I guess I got bored of doing that when I listened on Friday) but overall I like this, it feels livelier than their other one we listened to (The Funeral?
putting a bumper sticker on my car that says “honk if u <3 baroque rock”
Fine but nothing stood out
Very good, close to 5. The first and the last songs are great
Great album. Some nice catchy tunes
In an ocean of noise I still remember this vividly almost 2 decades later
Solid, if a little pretentious
What a time for Indie rock. Solid album.
I really liked it musically, although I'm a bigger fan of Funeral because of this album's in-the-face anti-Christian message. Music was classic 2000s indie sound though, which I love.
Bastante bueno, aunque no es del todo mi estilo
Fantastic album. I love AF and this is one of their best. Catchy hooks, decent production, and tons of potential. It's not perfect, but it's always a fun liste. Also one of the more influential indie albums of its time.
keep the car running, intervention, ocean of noise, no cars go
I realized when I started listening that I had never sat through an entire Arcade Fire album before, despite being a big fan of some of their songs. So I was a little disappointed that a few of the songs dragged, in places. Overall, I still enjoyed the album, but not as much as I hoped that I would. 3.5/5, rounded up. Favorite track: "No Cars Go," easily.
We're really just going back into my high school / college life recently? Not their apex, but still a damn good album that has no fat. 4/5
oh my god this is literally the best thing i've listened to in a WHIILLLEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE
Good multi-instrument band. This album presents some Arcade Fire hits.
This was awesome…
Very good, also very preachy. Still loved it though.
Pretty good offering, even though I am not as good at focusing on lyrics I could pick up a thematic element to these songs.
This album wraps me in a warm embrace of personal storytelling, with deeply moving melodies and lyrics that feel like the artist's soul laid bare.
8.7
Good.
1. Black Mirror - Inspired the Netflix show! 2. Keep the Car Running - Can imagine this in an '80s movie car sequence 3. Neon Bible - Perils of Religion = a fave motif in art 4. Intervention - the lyrics hit me, the organ-like music added to this "been working for the church while...." One of my faves so far 5. Black Wave/Bad Vibration - Unexpected shift, but linked in well. Carry on the chase sequence from KCR in the album narrative (NB & Inter. were the reasons why). The bass/drums were like the song title. Stormy high point in the album narrative 6. Ocean of Noise - Calm in the storm. 7. The Well and the Lighthouse - Why did this remind me of Crime & Punishment? 8. (Antichrist Television Blues) - Dystopian Hell. Bit noncy x 9. Windowsill - A song for a generation. "I don't wanna live with my father's debt/ You can't forgive what you can't forget." The female vocals joining in good 10. No Cars Go - Why is this the 2nd most played song from this album? This is not near the best 11.My Body Is a Cage - A good theme and story to end this album. Ends in hope-ish?
I quite like this one, too. I think I've heard the band before, but I can't really remember. Big and bombastic.
Neon Bauble.
(866) NEON-BIBLE x 7777
Pretty good.
I liked it. Heard for the first time, it was enjoyable.
Overly pretentious, maybe, but "Keep The Car Running" in a jam...
I don’t remember feeling like this album had so many fillers in it. Maybe it’s just my age. 3.5
Good album and songs, win butler has an annoying voice though
This was really good
Third Arcade Fire album on here, and all have been unique in their own right. Title track is certainly a stand-out to me; the first song that grabbed my interest. Relative to the rest of the songs, it stands out with its relatively stripped down and straight-forward style. Love the instrumental and vocal layering that they use here with the simple, repeating guitar line. Such a simple, yet influencing song. Also interesting that the namesake is the shortest on the album. Middle of the album is really nice, but lacks particular standouts for me. Production is very clean throughout and I enjoyed what I was hearing. I've definitely heard No Cars Go before. Stylistically, it feels like a mash-up between Yeah Yeah Yeahs and Mumford and Sons. Enjoyable no less. This was a fine album and I think my favorite of the Arcade Fire offerings on here so far. Solid 4.
I really like the style of music that Arcade Fire makes I am not quite sure what it is but it does good things for me. Out of the 3 Arcade Fire albums we've listened to this is my 2nd favorite. It feels wrong giving this the same rating as Funeral at a 4, but I think my biggest regret on this whole album list is not giving Funeral a 5. Is the opening guitar the sample that Avicii used on Hey Brother?
This was a pretty theatrical sound that Arcade Fire brought! Another example of loving this because I had tried to get into Arcade Fire for years and never could, but this has really helped. Highly enjoyed this. Ocean of Noise was great and My Body is a Cage was a fantastic closer.
Gimme that pipe organ
Really good album. I didn’t like The Arcade Fire when they released this album and only became a fan after they released The Suburbs.
Solid all the way through with a bunch of highlights and a crescendo through the end
Loved it! A cross between U2 and Men at Work, sort of. Having never heard them before, this is refreshing.
Ta bien, sa grabao en una iglesia o algo, mixed reviews per part de la comunidad, miiddle review per la meua. Esperaba mes "neones" pero bien, de 4.
Interesting sad boy vibes. Nice and varied. Nothing caught me on first listen.
Like some of Arcade Fire’s stuff, although not familiar with this album. Alternative from 2007. First song called Black Mirror - wondering if the show takes the title from that… looks like it does! Has the right kind of vibe. Quite enjoying this - had my kinda cynical vibe lol. Not quite uplifting but enjoying on the whole. 4.
unexpectedly really liked it
Rich sound textures and diverse songs. Not bad!
Was obsessed with this in 2008
Love arcade fire to be honest I know this isn’t that great compared to their first album But I feel so nostalgic when I listen to their albums and there are some solid chrome bangers on this one I know it prolly don’t deserve a 4 but it’s a 4 for me, love AF.
Always love Arcade fire
This is up in my alley. I enjoyed most of the songs in this album
Great record!
This is a solid record for sure. The arrangements are great and the songs all build really well. Good lyrics, good instrumentation, great production. Just based on this album I would imagine that Arcade Fire puts on a great live show, I have never seen them but I hear their live shows are pretty amazing. Had this been the first thing I ever heard from Arcade Fire I would definitely go back and listen to more of their stuff.
Mid 2000’s indie record. Not bad, but was never that big on Arcade Fire personally.
I think this is the rock equivalent of big room edm. These guys are the modern day ELO. Loud instrument arrangements that make you want to dance. Not the best arcade fire album tho.
It was pretty good. It wasn’t anything too special, but it was relaxing to listen to.
It feels like something Monroy would listen. Weirdly sad and happy at the same time. I'll ask him if he know them. Today I had a weird dream, I dreamed I was at a party, Alex was there, he lost his shit when he saw Ada doing limbo and then he fell in love. I was hoping to see him back in Queretaro this summer. Now he is ten feet under and I am scared to be near gas pipes. I think that is what this music makes me feel, of a friend that is here no more, I am happy to think about him, but sad that is the only thing I can do with him.
Very original band! Hard to quite describe the sound, but brings back some memories of more obscure 80’s bands. Wasn’t sure I’d like it during the first song, but as the album progressed, it grew on me more and more. Will DEFINITELY be listening to it again!
Coincidentally I got the first Arcade Fire album the day before this one. I liked this one more. It sounded bigger. Cool that they recorded in a church and also the use of the organ.
Keep 🚙 🏃♂️ =😍
Oh, now I understand where did Imploding the Mirage by the Killers come from. Sounds cool, I like this neon cathedral.
The meme that I remember was "Neon Bible sucks!" And I get that reaction but am glad I got to confront that notion. There is a reason this is the album that really pushed Arcade Fire into the spotlight. The "challenging second album" motifs are present throughout: a orchestra in Budapest contributing to songs, recording in unconventional places (an old church the band bought an turned into a studio, and also next to a river) and a deeply confrontational theme spread throughout. The themes of consumerism and religion crushing this nation are present everywhere you turn on this album. Dissonance seems to interplay with the lyrics to give a double whammy of reality that is sometimes hard to look in the eye. A lot of the songs have a neo-Springsteen feel to them, asking the bold question "What if the Boss had to come to grips with the beginning of the iPhone era instead of fast cars and leaving Jersey?" Also, fuck Win Butler.
Favorite track (so far): Intervention Love the production. Lol I didn't realize "My body is a cage" was the sample for Kings on Macklemore's Vs. EP. Very good song Overall very good album. Suffers from the same thing a lot of indie did at this time (for me) which is it feels like a lot of good ideas but no "payoff" if that makes sense. I like the concepts of the instrumentals, but I keep waiting for a beat drop or a big movement and it almost gets there but not quite. Maybe that's the point, or maybe I'm shallow and want something a little too simplistic from my music. Either way, It keeps it from being something that I am absolutely in love with. I will say, I didn't give Arcade Fire much of a chance before this one (I didn't like "The Suburbs" all that much) and this album was a lot better than what my memory has associated with them.
My husband and I used to make out to this album all the time when we were kids. On balance the album itself isn’t my favourite Arcade Fire record but this relisten made me horny so I stand by scoring it high.
Album de música indie Melodías intensas acompañadas de guitarras y voces correctas. Para escuchar paseando con auriculares es perfecto
I liked it and I will listen again.
As a millennial of a certain demographic group, I'm a big fan of Arcade Fire. This isn't my favorite album of theirs, but it's still a real banger. Some of the tracks aren't great, but a lot of the tracks are. I'd be happy to see this album any day of the week.
Yes, the band and the music is pretentious. Still solid, though.
Enjoyed this album.
The opposite of yesterday! I have a real downer on Arcade Fire, mainly because they seem to attract the kind of Muse-esque fans, who take themselves way too seriously. However, this had a real heft to it and was a much more interesting listen than I'd expected. It's very of-its-time, and I have this feeling that they've been cancelled now, but a pleasant surprise nonetheless.
While I didn't love it in the same way that I loved the Suburbs, I still thought this album was excellent. It still had the same bombastic, almost operatic production but was a little rougher around the edges and never reached Sprawl II levels. My body is a cage came very very close though.
Good lyrics, and Indie rock music. Fav. "No Cars GO"
"Neon Bible" by Arcade Fire, released in 2007, is a sonic odyssey that immerses listeners in a haunting, yet beautiful, musical landscape. The album is marked by its grandiosity, both in terms of orchestration and thematic depth. From the anthemic "No Cars Go" to the introspective "My Body Is a Cage," Arcade Fire crafts a narrative that is both personal and universal. The haunting arrangements, led by Win Butler's emotive vocals, create an otherworldly atmosphere. (Too bad he turned out to be a massive a-hole) While not as immediately accessible as its predecessor "Funeral," "Neon Bible" rewards patient listeners with its layers of complexity. It's a testament to Arcade Fire's ability to create thought-provoking, emotionally charged music. With its ambitious scope and artistic integrity, "Neon Bible" earns a solid 4/5.
80s influenced 2000s rock
wird mit jedem Hören besser
Difficult dark album this one, different from their 1st and 3rd one. Listening to it now, do really like it. Like the rhythms and the way he sings. Saw them live three times, twice brilliant and then they made the disgusting 'Everything Now, la la la la, you've got everything now' album. Since then not interested.
I listened to this before Christmas 2023 and it is now January 4th 2024 and I can still remember this album. That speaks volumes for me. A couple of songs have made it to a favourites playlist so another big tick (Keep the Car Running and Intervention if you’re interested).
Indie classic right? It’s great. Moody, pretty light moments, busting guitars, pianos!!
Sounded good
Blasted this in the morning, going shopping, playing board games, and quality time. Slapped all the way. 8.5/10
Good album, never really got it at the time, but here we are….
I only knew a couple of Arcade Fire tracks until listening to this. Wow, this is pretty damn solid stuff, isn't it? Great (if slightly muddy, or maybe it's my ears) production, beautiful instrumentation and lyrically intriguing. Favourite tracks: Black Mirror, Intervention, The Well and the Lighthouse, Windowsill, No Cars Go (think this track is my absolute fave).
good stuff
I checked out of AF after Funeral. Some bangers on here but i wouldn't stick it on as an album.
4-4.5 I enjoyed this album a lot more than I thought I would. I like the variety of the songs and the cohesion of the album, I liked the lyrics and the melodies. A minor issue for me is that I feel like there were times it was stuck in a sound of the 2000s, which is perfectly good if you like 2000s indie music. However, I am not the biggest fan of this type of music, which I think is why this album wasn’t quite perfect for me.
Has gotten better with age.
Beaucoup mieux que ce que j'imaginais. À réécouter !
Enorme surprise dans ce générateur, nous venons d'avoir droit à un bon album
This is probably my favorite Arcade Fire. It holds together well with its themes and that final track is incredible - especially as a cover song.
Really nice use of a variety of different styles
Marraskuun mielenmaisemaan sopivaa musiikkia: raskasta ja tummaa. Kuuntelisin uudelleen. No cars go!
Somehow the only Arcade Fire album I hadn’t heard? An effective expansion of their sound from a more acoustic debut that doesn’t quite reach the heights of the records either side of it
Superb stuff. Black Mirror is hugely underatted.
I actually quite enjoyed this album. This surprised me as the first song was pretty boring. Good background tunes.
Powerful
Anthemic. Passionate. I could imagine Arcade Fire filling stadiums on the strength of this album. It was ok and I was quite enjoying it and then 'No cars go'. Absolute banger. Sealed that deal. If I could have given this album 3.5 stars I would have them NCG came on. Solid 4 stars. Very nice.
Gotta listen to this one again
Not my #1 for Arcade Fire but a solid listen straight through.
Finally something that isn't classic rock! Also that I've heard many, many times. I guess I'll give it a fresh listen because why not. I still really like a lot of this. I've never cared for Regine's voice, and I still don't on this listen, but this album is not as bad as some others. Still a very solid album.
I believe this is third best in the awesome album run Arcade Fire had in the 00's. I like it, but it did not really stick with me enough. The last 2 songs are bangers. I really love the organ sound in some tracks. Maybe I wasn't in the correct headspace, but this is not a 5/5 for me. 4/5
Pretty funky, some solid jams
I think we're not supposed to like Arcade Fire anymore because Win got cancelled for being a weird perv or something but whatever, I still like this album. I'm more of a Funeral and Suburbs guy so I hadn't listened to this in ages, but it has held up really well. For a while it felt like they were one of the few bands doing big, ambitious rock and roll.
To me this sounds like a happier version of Timber Timbre. I enjoy it very much even if some of the music is a bit too formulaic here and there.
There’s a certain irony about the album being recorded a lot in a Church and the main singer having several sexual misconduct allegations, but I’m better than that. Anyway, I am willing to brush the sexual misconduct under the rug and resume business though, something I bet never once uttered by a Pope before. Can’t say I have heard of Arcade Fire before today, sorry folks. I did however enjoy my introduction to them. I initially settled for a 3.5 on this one, but feel rounding up to a 4 is a more fitting score than a 3 - despite a hint of pretentiousness in some of the songs. The production on a good few of the songs is intriguing, and I reckon with a few more listens a couple of the songs will continue to grow on me. The usage of the organ/back up singers elevated this album for me. ‘My Body is a Cage’ is a nice conclusion to this tracklist. Overall, decent! I am now familiar with Arcade Fire, and look forward to hearing more of them. Songs added to playlist: (1) The Well and the Lighthouse (2) No Cars Go
An interesting follow up to their big breakthrough, they seemed to have turned away from what everyone liked about Funeral and made a completing and complex frustrating follow up! I enjoy it but can see why it's not everyone's favorite.
Good, alternative album. Relaxing
Great artist, great but not their best album.
Great album with some real hard hitting songs. The whole album was quite an experience and given the right time/mood it can be a fantastic listen but definitely not something I would listen to often.
I really enjoyed The Suburbs by these guys recently, but this didn’t make much of an impression on me. Decent, but no outstanding tracks for me.
These vibes are burned into my teenage soul.
Arcade fire is good. This is a good album.
Good album but Suburbs and Funeral are better.
Indy rock needs to be special to shine. This was just okay.
Nice but forgettable
I've heard it before. Great album.
Black mirror banging keys is nice
Entering day 5 of the depression sessions, I was lifted to see a recent(ish) album appear. Any hope of a more upbeat time of things was quickly dashed in the album opener, but with a hint of accidental shuffle, No Cars Go soon made things more bearable, a catchy tune. After about 3 hours with this on shuffle, I've come to realise that it can't be that bad else I'd have binned it a while ago. It's getting 4* tbf tbh imo
OK
A bit over-wrought, but still enjoyable. A bit country in some spots which is fun.
What a beautiful album. I’ve listened before but it sounded really good today. I never got into these guys until recently.
Great album
Pretty decent, sad vibes, but I kinda enjoyed it
