Great record

This album is good!! I give it two thumbs up!! 👍 👍

Wunderschön!

An absolute delight, heartbreak in perfect harmonies

I love all three of these amazing voices. And I really appreciate this type of country music. But this album had me unsure about if I should buy roses for my wife as an apology, or go to a bar and cry into my beer.

Three of the greats working together, my only complaint is that I hadn't heard it sooner.

Overraskende bra

Heavenly. Angelica. Perfect three part harmony. 6/5

Legendary. Everything good about Country music is embodied in this recording.

I haven’t delved deep into any of these performers’ catalogs, but I was completely struck down by these performances. The production is sparse, allowing their voices to stand out, on tracks that sound so timeless that they could just as likely be heard on 78 shellac discs or a cut on Zeppelin IV

honestly bit more of a bummer than i expected, still really good though

I loved this one. The harmonies made me happy!

This is pretty music. Somewhere between traditional country and new country (as new as it got in 1986 when this album was recorded) with gorgeous harmonies and all three ladies in top form TRIO is an absolute delight if you like any kind of country, you will love this album. The remake of Phil Spector's 1958 hit by the Teddy Bears, "To Know Him Is to Love Him" is almost as good as the original and that blows my mind as "To Know Him Is To Love Him" is my absolute favorite single of all time and again this cover is very close to being as great. Nothing remotely negative to say about this one it's absolutely perfect as is. 95% (maybe higher) of the garbage you hear on country radio these days is not even country THIS is real country and more than that it's real good country music and when country music is this good it's among the best music in the world. Oh, Lord, I need a cowboy in a bad way this morning to lasso me up out of my white country girl boots!

Beautiful easy listening. Tracks to Track: Wildflowers

There's something about female harmonies that really speaks to me.

Why is this just listed as a Dolly album? It's right there in the title. Anyway, these are three amazing voices. Quite a gift that they worked together on this.

Stone cold classic!

Hard to hate this album. It's timeless, it's progressive, it's sad, it's hopeful. I would give this 4.5 stars, but I'll round up because of the importance of Trio.

This is so fucking good. The song Wildflowers jumped out to me. And the song Rosewood Casket is one of the most emotional songs I have ever herd. A masterpiece.

Individually, these three powerful female musicians have such unique sounds and stories to tell. Together, that storytelling was amplified. Despite not being a country music fan, I really enjoyed this album and will add it to my musical rotations. 10/10!

Country akkurat sånn det skal høres ut, med akkurat sånne stemmer som den skal bæres av.

Wildflowers has always been one of my favorite songs. Nice to hear the full album. I'm a huge country music fan, so this is right up my alley. Loved it. 5/5 Highlights: To Know Him Is to Love Him Wildflowers Those Memories of You Farther Along

Holy shit

Dream team

Such incredible voices, We're all so blessed they chose to sing together.

Awesome

Three queens and beautiful harmonies, what's not to love? Dolly seems to take the lead on the majority of songs and I'd love to hear linda and Emmy Lou Harris a little more but they still have their respective moments and it makes for a great record vocally.

Question why I left five stars on other albums. First time hearing this and it has me reevaluating what I thought registered as a five star album. Perfection.

defo 5

Pre-listening thoughts: oh HELL yes I am so excited for this. But this does mark the end of dolly for this challenge :( Post/during listening thoughts: this is literally the infinity war of country music. Not the hokey scene where all the women gather up, no, these are the bonafide avengers themselves. Male country doesn’t hold a candle to this. I cannot name three men in country who could devour this hard sorry. 9/10 DID I NEED TO HEAR THIS BEFORE I DIE: yeah maybe. This is the blueprint for like boygenius lowkey Fav tracks: The Pain of Loving You, Making Plans, Hobo’s Meditation, Wildflowers (I am dolly biased sorry!), Farther Along Least fav tracks: none

Fabulous three way vocal harmonies ove classic country/bluegrass-ey instrumentation

5*, duh.

Harmonies and haunting words are sublime

Beautiful American country music sung by 3 iconic voices. What's not to like?

Really beautiful harmonies here

Three country female legends all together on one beautiful album

I would not have sought this out, so I'm glad it's on the list. Three splendid singers serve up the most mellow country music.

True story: my mother had Alzheimer's and was confused and agitated and this album calmed her (I never knew her to listen to music deliberately). The voices are gorgeous both individually and in combination, and I feel like I can hear Linda trying hard not to overpower everyone else, as she definitely could.

ICONIC

I was truly surprised by this album. That's why I am doing the 1001 Album generator to find music I really like which I otherwise would have never discovered.

This was a joy. Three legends. Often with music made in 1987 it can feel of it's time but this didnt. It felt completely authentic. 5 stars

Country is not my cup of tea but these ladies are perfection.

uh yeah bud that's a five

Love it. So calming and sweet and a little sad

A good old-fashioned country album with three voices that blended beautifully, I loved it.

Ex-ce-llent! What voices!!

That cover! Why do they all look like waxworks. But also, this is great. Amazing talent all working together, totally ego-free, and just so charming and touching.

Excellent harmonies - really liked this one

Lovely country album with wonderful harmonies, all three vocalists have such distinctive voices!

Beautifully crafted country songs courtesy of 3 of country's finest. Their voices are incredible together, and they all deliver extremely heartfelt performances

Loved this album and I’m no big country fan but this was something else on a Sunday morning.

Three women at the top of their game. Doesn't do anything insane, but is a rock solid classic country album. Great harmonies, great musicianship, great production. I nice easy listen that flew on by. Dolly can't help it but, she stands out.

absolutely brilliant

Was soll ich schreiben? Dass ich kein großer Countrymusik Anhänger bin. Dolly Parton aber für ihr Lebenswerk bewundere. Und nun das. Drei Superstars vereint. Danke.

I never listed to this! OMG 3 of the best and I do love a more traditional country. When it first came out, I'd have avoided this, though secretly it would appeal to my formative years of these 3 artists on our family turn table. After a full exploration of Alt. Country in the 90's and becoming reborn in "true" and "outlaw" country, I love this album!!!

This album was incredible. What a power trio. But in an album of equals, Dolly seems a little more equal than the rest. Every time her voice kicks in it makes the song better.

5/5. A beautifully sung and and orchestrated collection of songs, just a sweet and yet sad album from three intelligent and strong women, expressing their feelings and worries in front of the listener, not worrying about being accepted, just a message told. This was a great listen, it's not perfect. I would say just some songs are not perfect but this was near perfect for sure. Best Song: Wildflowers, Making Plans, Farther Along

Exactly the kind of classic country I fw. I love the vocal harmonies and all three of their voices are so powerful.

Difficult to rate it without bias. I'm very picky with country music, I honestly can't stand most of it. Except for (good) bluegrass and everything Dolly blesses with her presence. I already knew some of the songs, and I'm glad I got around to listening to the whole album now, will definitely listen to it again in the future.

Such great harmonies, really fantastic stuff, they are all legends. 15 stars.

Wow what a beautiful record. It’s got so much- country, bluegrass, honky tonk, even a couple more contemporary sounds but the real star of this one is the VOCALS. Like are you fucking kidding me. Three absolute legends all together?? Fuck man. If you’ve ever seen O Brother Where Art Thou you’ll know what this one sounds like. Each of these singers is an absolute treasure like cmon it’s DOLLY here. But the way their voices just compliment each other is absolutely outstanding. I listened to the 2016 remastered version and I gotta say it sounds like it was recorded recently. There’s plenty of fiddle and mandolin in the band and piano and ugh it’s just all so beautiful. Lyrically it’s mostly love songs but they’re the kind of love songs that are about lost love or longing. The first track almost brought me to tears in the dunkin drive thru haha. If you’re feeling bummed out or kinda meh this will lift you up for sure, even if the songs are a lil bit sad. I think my favorite song on this is Wildflowers but yeah this is incredible.

This is an unbelievably beautiful noise. I don't generally listen to conventional country music, I prefer the modern variety (Molly Tuttle for example), but a person would have to have a heart of stone not to be melted by the blend of these voices. It's just sublime. Like Sinatra, their talent elevates what might otherwise be average songs way beyond their normal standing. I could listen to this all day and just allow the shivers to run up and down my spine.

One of the best. If you love great voices and harmonies this is awesome.

okay so a few of them were too dreary or too 80s but most of this was TIMELESS. the harmonies… what can be said. Women win every time

So fun! Didn’t rock with all of the songs but the ones i did we’re so refreshing. I love you Dolly

Three legends. I love the old school country motifs in the slick Nashville sound.

Amazing album. Amazing women. Five stars +

Truly beautiful album. All 3 ladies share each song wonderfully. Love me some old country

Dolly Parton, Linda Ronstadt, and Emmylou Harris team up to cover country songs. What's not to love?

The pain of loving you👍🏻 Wildflowers👍🏻 Telling me lies👍🏻 Those memories of you🤤 Honestly just has that classic feel to it. Their voices together are amazing and I can’t get enough.

dollyyyyy

This. Now THIS is my jam. It combines some of my favorite things in music - pretty lyrics, pretty voices and harmonies, oh the harmonies... A perfect auditory feast for my ears.

Now THAT'S what I call country! Dolly and the gang deliver big time on this one. And if you're able to take your ears off the marvelous vocal harmonies throughout the record, you might notice some pristine and gorgeous slide guitar, mandolin and various other strings that accompany these angelic voices. This is not my general flavor of music, but I honestly have nothing negative to say here. Maybe this isn't the most ambitious album of all time, but it doesn't need to be. I'm gonna go with my gut here and say 5 stars, well deserved.

Excellent!

Add to vinyl collection

These ladies voices are the star on this album. Angelic harmonies that complement the slide guitar, mandolin and piano. Pure and soulful. One of the greatest collaborations ever produced in country music.

Take three amazingly talented women with distinctive, wonderful voices, and bring them together in the most beautiful harmony, singing lovely songs, accompanied by absolutely perfect instruments. This is pretty glorious and delightful. I might not have really sought this out when it came out. I wasn't quite into country music then, but I have learned better, and this has been one of my most anticipated selections in this project. It was well worth the wait and I am so happy.

I knew of the existence of this album, although my first listen was within the last year or so. It’s amazing to hear this trio, and I love their sound!

Glorious. Amen!

I’m glad that the fates finally allowed this album to be made, because it exceeds my already high expectations! These woman sound incredible together. I enjoyed this from start to finish. A big surprise was how they breathed new life into “To Know Him Is To Love Him.” This is an oldie that I didn’t think I had any need to really hear again, but listening to this trio’s version it sounded like a new, amazing song. What a wonderful album!

Clearly a “1,001” album. The trio of Parton, Emmy Lou Harris and Linda Ronstadt is as powerful as they come. The rendition of “To know him is to love him” is among the best. “Making Plans” was my favorite! All time classical Album to be sure!

Great songs sung by three great voices with beautiful harmonies. Perfect record.

This album is one I have never listened to before (I’m not that much of a country fan), but it is good. Each of the girls’ voices blend really well together, and the harmonies sound amazing. 4.8/5 Favorite: “Wildflowers”, “Hobo’s Meditation” Least Favorite: “Telling Me Lies”

All time album. So good!

Very interesting. A very new space for me.

Beautiful voices singing beautiful compositions in exquisite harmonies.

3 beautiful legendary voices make a beautiful album.

Loved this !

One of the best country/Americana albums of the 1980s, and perhaps ever, Trio combines the power of Linda Ronstadt, EmmyLou Harris, and Dolly Parton in their prime. Parton especially had had a string of crossover pop hits at this time, making this something of a back-to-basics album for her. Their combined talents always complement and never compete. The song selection is spectacular. It's easier to point out the very few lesser songs (To Know Him is to Love Him? Really?) than suggest the gems. It's so full of gems that it sparkles like a tiara. Parton's contributions are especially wonderful though, especially Wildflowers and Rosewood Casket which feature Dolly's exquisite dulcimer playing. There was a follow up (Trio II) that, while good, doesn't rise to the lofty heights of this album. This is a rare oppurtunity to see three amazing songwriters and performers at their best, made better by their collaboration.

Not usually one for country music, but I absolutely love this. Three of my favorite artists and women.

Enjoyable, classic

Not my standard listening but these voices together are awesome.

Wonderful! Marvelous! Good songs and stellar harmonies.

Three premier performers making great music. They're all so flawless, what a great album.

This is gorgeous country, the voices blend so well together and the sweet gentle tone is mesmerising. Some nice fiddling, too.

Dolly stays undefeated

3 amazing voices that blend together well

Three great (and distinctive) vocalists collaborate (and harmonize) in the best possible ways. Really a masterclass on how all of these "superstar" collaborations should be done. Simply beautiful.

This fucking slaps. Three totally perfect singers join voices in a sort of voltron esque creation of unstoppable country music. Telling Me Lies is the perfect example.

a beautiful classic country album.

Where has this been all my life?!?! I am a sucker for good harmonies so right off the bat I loved this. But the songs themselves are beautiful lyrically and musically. Nothing crazy just pleasant listening and I would be lying if I said a couple songs didn’t make me tear up thinking about family members of mine who have passed or aren’t in the best health. Bravo to these 3 ladies who put together a masterpiece of harmonies.

Dolly Parton

Dolly, Linda and Emmylou. What did the world do to deserve the three of you? At this juncture of all three stunning careers, they've done everything possible: collaborations with wayward souls, career-defining songs that still echo and resonate, changing genres with an ease most people couldn't perfect and many, many more. What's left to do than come together and bang out an album that not only is a classic but demonstrates all three at their peak. Weaving together well-worn classics with the then-modern touch that exemplified grace, the result that became Trio is the type of record that can best be an introduction and also a reminder of the talents that all three have. Thank the heavens that such a creation was allowed to be made. We're not worthy.

Un autre album country cette semaine mais celui-ci merite vraiment son 5. Un excellent album par 3 super chanteuse

Heck yeah. Trio is just magic. The combination of voices (personally, I'm especially partial to Emmylou Harris, but you can't fault Dolly or Linda) is better than any of them alone. To Know Him is to Love Him is an absolute stand out. Yes, some of the songs are a bit corny, and many of them have been overplayed. It's an 80s country album with 80s overdone production (and seriously, Emmylou, what were you thinking with that HAIR?), but this is ICONIC. Smashing good album.

Simpel maar mooi

Entrancing voice of a good-souled woman.

Three of the greatest!

Una belleza de álbum en todos los niveles. Sin duda es El Trío. La unión de sus voces es un regalo.

To know him is to love him é bem gostosinha

what a trio

This is the kinda country I can fw. Super gorgeous music. Kinda wild that these 3 absolute Queens I don’t think passed the Bechdel test on this one. Still fire tho.

This slapped maybe I should listen to more country.

These three-part harmonies are next level. Three iconic voices coming together. Not the most groundbreaking song writing so the vocals are definitely the highlight.

When I saw this come up I assumed it would be perfectly fine, but nothing special. But I was pleasantly surprised by how much I enjoyed it. It’s a lovely collection of good songs performed very well in a traditional country style by three of the genre’s leading ladies, with astonishingly beautiful three-part vocal harmonies. Nothing to complain about here. Standout tracks include ‘The Pain of Loving You’, ‘To Know Him Is to Love Him’, ‘Wildflowers’, ‘Telling Me Lies’ (great to see a Linda Thompson song here) and ‘Those Memories of You’. I reckon it’s good enough for 4 stars.

THE VOCALS. THE HAIR.

*1987. *This is delightful. There's not a lot of country music I enjoy, but I'd gladly listen to these 3 ladies any time. RATING - 7/10

A nice wee album that I already know quite well. I rather enjoy the fact that these 3 heavyweights come together and made something to melancholic, how bizarre but such a good move rather. Linda Ronstadt has one of my favourite voices, but the combination of the trio is also fabulous of course. Debated giving it a 5 x

(Decent 7/10) As with most records like this that have 3 or more major songwriters and singers all sharing a spotlight together, you're gonna have a rather unbalanced effort that feels like some members are gonna have less time up front than others. Then there's the issue of sometimes the songs that your favorite of the 3 sings are just not the best ones. That was overall my experience with Trio. I love all the vocalists here but Ronstadt was my all time favorite as I grew up with her music, and just hearing her sometimes and on some of the more underwhelming tracks was a bit sad for me lol. All that being said though, this is a very nice record and when all three of these amazing ladies come together for the harmonies, it's golden country magic. The songs are for the most part all really nice too. Dolly is the clear standout here by far, all the best songs have her front and center. It's a great little LP that really only made sense for a collaboration like this to occur. For the outlaws we have The Highwomen, and for the softer country souls we have Trio.

Beautiful voices, wonderful harmonies

What a pleasant surprise this was. I expected to enjoy this, but not to this extent. Wildflowers and Telling Me Lies were absolutely outstanding.

piękny, więcej kobiecej akustycznej muzyki, świat byłby lepszym miejscem

Good old school country. Pretty voices

Wonderful album filled with three beautiful voices. I love this style of country and this was just a very pleasant, refreshing listen after the last few albums on the list

+1 because Dolly is a goddamn national treasure. 4/5

Fun country record. Quite nostalgic as well

Incredibly chill! Organisk lyd, som overrasket meg ettersom dette er fra åttitallet. Nydelig samklang i vokalen. En god påminnelse om å gjøre det enkelt når det gjelder å skrive sang og melodi

Trio by Dolly Parton - love this, old school country vibes with almost a mamma Mia element to it? Easy listening, great storytelling. Would listen again 9/10

Great harmonies, and you can't go wrong with Dolly. Dolly is one of a few country artists I like, but I still don't particularly want to listen to an entire album of it. 3.5

Delightful harmony singing, 4.5 stars

The blonde lady on the cover looks uncannily like the mascot of Dollywood in Pigeon Forge, Tennessee

Harmony was ok. Love the trio as separate but this wasn't my fave sounds. Dolly though is amazing in all things

Tres damas del country unidas en un trio que amplifica y no mengua su talento. Algo realmente dificíl de ver. De hecho tuvo su continuación en Tris 2. Aquí poco más que añadir, la reseña del libro es perfecta.

Loved this. So Allison Krauss.

This is lovely and I'm glad to know there's a second one I'll get to check out.

Nans approval so gotta shoot higher

A country album, oh jeez! Oh well, I’ll give it a go…. Oh! This is great! What a lovely, easy to listen to album. Voices are great, enjoyed it!

Solid. Just great hometown vibes and beautiful harmonies for 39 straight minutes. It does get a bit repetitive, but for making country music this enjoyable to me, I gotta at least give it a 4. Dolly don't miss!

Three great singers singing greatly

So putting three of the biggest female vocalists from the 20th century together is seriously magical. With Dolly, Linda, and Emmylou its easy because their styles blend so well, it's a beautiful take on traditional country folk harmonies. Their voices are just perfect, no one's trying to outshine each other, it's all about the music. It's easy to listen to, cozy, and really pleasing, pure, timeless country at its finest.

Not sure if it was deliberate or coincidence I got this on the exact anniversary of this album! I enjoyed this listen although it did get a bit monotonous by the end. Great vocals, nice production.. not sure I’d be a regular listener but this is perfect for inoffensive background music. Overall 3.5/5

I recognized the name Dolly Parton, but I had no idea she made music like this. I realized more than halfway through the album, because the history page on this website only had her name listed, that the title of the album is referring to the fact that it's her and two other massively talented female vocalist singing in a trio. My modern sensibilities had me thinking that she was harmonizing with herself through post production, and that says something about how well these three vocalists meshed together, creating seamlessly beautiful, three part harmonies. I am also very partial to Bluegrass adjacent music so my bias will surely show in my review of this album. Violins, mandolins, acoustic guitars, and slide guitars; what's not to like? Strong four to a light five

I feel like Country music has let Dolly Parton down. Bigtime. Here we have all the idiom we need to localize this music and glean its milieu. Vocal stylings, banjo, lap steel, vocal harmonies, acoustic guitar, all the elements are there. And despite the "redneck" stereotype that many of us apply to Country music, this oozes class, thus defying [my] expectations. How tragic, then, that Country music has largely become a caricature. Those of us who haven't spent deliberate time with its catalogue could (sorely) miss gemstones like this out of reflex alone, and therein lies the misfortune for Dolly Parton, from my perspective. I had lumped her offerings in with the Tim McGraws, the Luke Bryans, the Toby Keiths, but her music transcends the broken-down trucks and Confederate symapthies of her locale. I needed to hear this, but I'm sure some of us already had the awareness this helped me develop, so 4/5.

Lovely but a few too many slow songs. 3.5

Really great. I wish it was a little more up tempo, but the harmonies were awesome.

Gorgeous, gorgeous stuff

Las amo. Sus voces se complementan tan bien.

I enjoyed this one more than I expected. All songs are pretty good and the voices are great. I also found some of the lyrics were pretty good. I'm between 3 and 4 but I'm leaning towards 4.

Álbum excelente de Country clássico. Vozes e instrumentos excelentes! CVJ Neko.

The knock on this might be that it's sort of fluffy and innocuous, but I actually really liked it. The vocal harmonies are just great and I like the sort of subtle bluegrass flourishes. Have to feel like people like Alison Krauss took some notes from this. Some of the songs are actually pretty sad (Rosewood Casket?!) but found this a pretty enjoyable overall listen.

Good songs

The vocals here really elevate sometimes saccharine ballads that typically aren't my thing. Dolly's voice is, as always, tremendously sweet, and Linda & Emmy's pipes are nothing to sneeze at. Definitely appreciated when songs had a smidge more energy - like Wildflowers - over the pure ballads...which was honestly most of this. Might be a high 3 low 4 kind of situation, but grading up because these 3 are straight legends.

I love Dolly Parton

Boygenius before boygenius etc etc... It was a fun listen! Though I am rarely in a country mood but I'll keep it in the backlog.

Somebody love these women! So many sad songs! But soooo good. Sometimes 'supergroups' really miss the mark (often due to our own expectations). This does not. Banger of an album with some great talent on show, but no showing off.

fave is to know him is to love hiim

Hell yeah, it's the ladies.

An album full of good songs and great singing. It may have been a more important album for these artists to make than it was a grand musical statement, but out of the context of its time it still holds up well.

Dolly and Linda have some of the best vocals of all time. While I’m not much of a country fan overall, or a female, can’t deny the power of the harmonies and it is quite folksy. A few great ballads on this album

Favorite Track: Farther Along

I thought this album was pretty chill. Dolly Parton has alway been pretty great in her musical and acting career. I love the 9 to 5 movie and Album. But this "Trio" really blends well with each other. Giving this a 4/5

It's so nice that 3 such huge talents could come together without egos getting in the way. The harmonies were outstanding and they sound like they were born to sing together. This was a joy to listen to.

A good album, I liked The pain Of Loving You and Wildflowers the most.

For the walk I listened to this album on, I kept my hands in my pockets and did a jaunty little shuffle most of the way around. I know an album of country ballads is well-written when I find myself singing along to songs I've never heard before: this was my experience with Trio. Though I am unfamiliar with Emmylou Harris, the reputations of Linda Ronstadt and especially Dolly Parton built up much anticipation for this album, which I imagine is an odd entry point for the music of any of these women; without the prior context of their solo work, I have nothing to compare this album to, so instead of listening for each woman's individual sound or style, I just experienced it as one cohesive vision (funnily enough, this is the same way I experienced boygenius' album: without first listening to Phoebe Bridgers, Julien Baker, or Lucy Dacus). As such, this entire album comes together as a collective expression of country heartbreak, sadness, and hope, a pure distillation of what makes these types of female country ballads so powerful and resonant. Even if this album serves as an unconventional on-ramp to the music of these three women, it has nonetheless done its job in drawing me in, making me excited to further explore their music and hear how the sounds of Trio can be broken down into their three distinct artistic voices. Highlights: The Pain of Loving You, Making Plans, Hobo's Meditation, Wildflowers, Those Memories of You, I've Had Enough, Farther Along

Three incredible vocalists doing incredible things.

I'm gonna tell my kids this was boygenius. these three women are all superstars in country music, and they collaborated in various configurations for songs across the 70s and 80s, but finally managed to put together a full-length as a trio (ha-ha) in 1987. of course, the best tracks here are the ones that feature the three of them harmonizing together. Phil Spector's "To Know Him Is to Love Him" (originally a hit for his band the Teddy Bears in '58) gets an especially great treatment. as I've already mentioned quite a few times, I'm basically a novice when it comes to classic country, so I have a pretty tough time distinguishing which voice belongs to which person sometimes; but all three voices at play here are tremendous, so I suppose it's a good problem to have. the production and instrumentation is especially pristine. I continue to be a sucker for the sound of pedal steels and bowed strings and mandolins. as I get more acclimated to the conventions of country music, I'm especially moved by how these Nashville session players adorn such simple songs with beautiful details, perfectly setting lyrics about life's joys and hardships with a sense of heartfelt wonder. I can imagine that, in '87, there were pockets of the country industry (not to mention the music industry at large) that were needlessly mucking things up with synths, drum programming or what have you. I have nothing against electricity when it's used for the right purpose but, damn, acoustic country music can be so beautiful. light 8/10. (a nerdy cliff-note: some of these songs include something I'm not sure I've heard before on a country album: a viola being used as the fiddle! it's a gorgeous, mellower counterpart to the violin fiddling you hear most of the time, and Mark O'Connor takes particular advantage of the lower notes it's capable of.)

Is it just me that can't get Wildfires on the apple music version? A capital offence. This album turns around Wildflowers as its bright fulcrum. A little flowery/lacy in this late 80s snapshot, but just lovely harmonies.

Trio more like Quadruple

80’s Country ⭐️Those Memories of You

I loved this. Great songs performed by artists at the top of their game. Wonderful stuff

They sound angelic together.

Sure it's overproduced but God is it beautiful. Going through a breakup now and it melt my heart

역시는 역시다... 듣기 편하네요

I used to hate country music. Blame John Denver. Then, through a fellow Belgian, Pascal Deweze's record called Chitlin Fooks, the soundtrack to Oh Brother Where Art Thou and seeing Secret Sisters warm up for Ray LaMontagne, I discovered how beautiful it can be. This is an example. The infinite sadness. Those three amazing voices. This goes on my 'to buy' list.

Just lovely!

Beautiful blends, earnest lyrics, and a chance for each artist to shine in the spotlight. Now THIS is what this project was created for. Glad I found my way to it.

What a delightful album to get on a Thursday. I haven't gotten many country albums so far and the ones I have gotten haven't been great. This was a nice breath of fresh air.

I don't care for country, I've tried countless times, but damn it. Dolly Parton is one of the best there is that country has to offer in Past, present, and future.

7.5/10

This collaboration feels like a masterclass in mutual respect. It has a very grounded campfire intimacy that never really feels over-produced. I wanted a total country knockout album, and while it doesn't quite hit that perfect peak for me, the talent on display is massive. Spins: 1 Playlist Additions - The Pain of Loving You - To Know Him Is to Love Him - Wildflowers - Those Memories of You

i'm a slut for some harmonies

Listened to this while playing Leviathan Wilds with my partner. We won! This was a sonic reprieve from the last two albums...even if it did remind my partner of going to church.

I loved this album when it came out, and I still do. These are three of the great singers of our time, and the album they jointly put together is smart and, somehow, cohesive. Essential.

Just lovely :)

Album 1008 of 1089 Trio - Parton/Ronstadt/Harris (1987) Rating : 4.5 / 5 When you put an album on, you’re usually expecting something specific - a certain guitar sound, a mood, or maybe a collection of strong songs. This one shifts that expectation right out of the gate. The focus here isn’t instrumentation or genre tricks - it’s the voices. And those voices are the album. The songs themselves are perfectly fine, but honestly, they almost feel secondary. These three could be singing from a recipe book and it would still sound beautiful. Their harmonies are effortless and natural, blending together in a way that feels completely unforced. Dolly does stand out just a bit - how could she not? - but it never feels like a spotlight grab. Instead, it feels like three artists who know exactly when to lead and when to support. Yes, the roots are clearly country, but genre really takes a back seat here. What you’re left with is an album built on tone, warmth, and vocal chemistry. It’s calm, elegant, and deeply pleasant to sit with. No gimmicks, no overthinking - just three incredible voices doing what they do best.

Always love me some Dolly

Wait. Hold on. You’re singing about hobos and your voices sound like THAT???? The harmonies and vocal performances are stunning here. Incredible stuff. FOUR STARS

Day716 - their voices together are so beautiful. my mom had this tape when it came out so it’s a little nostalgic. i definitely appreciate all three of them now more than i did then.

Dolly as hell. I find it funny this is credited solely to Dolly, when Linda and EmmyLou are on this. Not only that but they seem to harmonize nearly every note of the album. I really enjoyed this much more than I thought I would, and feel like these three could've been a generational band if they made more stuff together. Oh well, kind of a Destiny's Child moment. I liked how the latter half just diverts into gospel and music that sounds spiritual. First half was my jam, but I am in awe of this whole record.

Quite literally pleasant actually

Big fat super collab between three people lol. Was high while listening to it but it had a lot of emotions man. From like jubilation to almost this kind of defeat, this shit is jam packed, you cant go wrong with any of these three ladies and they kinda killed it. A nice ride for a fuzzy brain, 7/10

Yeah, this is good to me. Such great harmonies. No real bangers, but it all sounds great.

Three of the best voices in country music. I was expecting the songs to sound more dated to the late 80s but was pretty surprised. Vocal harmonies out of this world. Linda might have come out on top on this one.

Three legends. Need I say more?

Interesting team up of some absolute legends. Very talented group of gals!

Lovely album.

This is a very pretty record. No surprise, the artists on it are amazingly talented. I hadn't heard this before and enjoyed it.

Bright and lovely. Feels like a big hug even though many of the songs are about romantic strife. Sometimes you can hear the late 80s on it, but mostly it’s just a solid, beautifully sung country record. I’ll revisit, especially in the spring.

Fantastic. Great harmonies, clever songs

Love dolly & her voice

This album came out at a time when I didn't care about country and folk music. Not that I'm its biggest advocate these days, but I appreciate the genre more and more. This is to say that I wouldn't have given this album any attention upon release. But I'm older and hopefully wiser and I'm in a far better place to be introduced to this. Over the years I've come to appreciate each one of these ladies more and more for their immense musical talents. Dolly and Linda in particular. Dolly is quite an underrated guitarist and Linda has, had, a voice powerful enough to shatter steel but tone and technique pure enough to make angels envious. But add Emmylou Harris to the mix? Wow. Stunning vocals. This album's songs didn't resonate with me. However I have to recognize the massive talent on this record; the production features some serious heavyweight musicians. But the talent is the three women and their harmonizing. Simply gorgeous vocals. Worth the listen and high rating. These three need something like a statue or holiday named in their honor. American treasures, the lot of them.

pretty good

Makes me feel so nostalgic

I love a good classic country album.

Three titans on one record.

Some songs were too sappy for my liking but overall I found this to be a beautiful labour of love, full of powerful voices and spirits.

Quite liked

They are not doing anything new or groundbreaking, but goddam these ladies can harmonize! Such a lovely album that just perfectly delivers what is wants. Without this list, I would have never known these incredible singers collaborated, but I'm so glad did. I will definitely return to this on.

Ffs I think I like country. I don't really wanna talk about it. 7 / 10 Best track/s: Those Memories Of You, To Know Him Is To Love Him, Wildflower

HELL YEAH. I love this and Trio II

First time really listening to Dolly Parton. Enjoyed it, found it relaxing and calming

Relaxing and entertaining

We got some real good ones one this record!

It's hard to find anything to dislike about this album. It has 3 of the best country voices of all time, and they all sound phenomenal here. I do think there should be more albums from female country artists on this list, but I'm glad this is here. Great singing and musicianship, and the songs are generally very charming. A worthy inclusion.

pleasant sounding country music from three of the arguably best women in the genre. despite their first album actually working together, you'd assume they've been writing songs for at least a decade. the album touches a bit on love, loss, and true country tradition. holy cow, can these ladies harmonize. their voices already are so soothing to listen to, and when they sing together, it's a match made in heaven. i can only rate it so high, because even as good as this album sounds, after all this time i'm still not a country guy. but between all the other country albums, this one is considerably better than the others. god bless you dolly.

I have an irrational distaste for Ljnda Rondstadt. Then again, I have an irrational love for Dolly and Emmy Lou. In the end, it was 2 v 1 and the 2 won. This is worth listening to.

A lot to like here, including the fully old school vibes, legit honoring of tradition and gorgeous (GORGEOUS) singing. It’s absolutely lovely, if a little on the prosaic side. “Making Plans” is the early highlight, "Rosewood Casket" the late one. Shout-out to Ry Cooder and (even more so) the hugely unheralded David Lindley – go check his solo stuff.

I've never listened to this album (39). Great fun with Dolly and the gang.

Very sweet and heartfelt album, with great performances all around. Enjoyable to sit back and listen to. About exactly what you'd expect on an album from any of Parton, Rondstat or Harris

I am going to refrain from mentioning how hot Emmylou Harris was in her prime, and how enormous Dolly Parton's rack is. Linda Ronstadt is also on this album. Incredible harmonisations, awesome instrumentals, brilliant songwriting, two beautiful ladies (and Linda Ronstadt) and some BIG KNOCKERS. Truly incredible songwritin-Hummina hummina hummina bazooooooooing! 🤤💥👀 eyes pop out 😵‍💫👀 AROOOOOOOOGA! jaw drops tongue rolls out 👅😱💧 WOOF 🐶 WOOF 🐾 WOOF 🐕 WOOF 🐶 WOOF 🐕 WOOF 🐾 WOOF 🐶 WOOF 🐾 WOOF 🐕 WOOF 🐶 WOOF 🐾 WOOF 🐕 WOOF 🐶 tongue bursts out of the mouth uncontrollably leaking face and everything in reach 🤪👅💦 WURBLWUBRLBWURblrwurblwurlbrwubrlwburlwbruwrlblwublr 🔁🤪💥 tiny cupid shoots an arrow through heart 💘💘💘💘 Ahhhhhhhhhhh me lady... 😍💘 heart in the shape of a heart starts beating so hard you can see it through shirt 💓💓💓💓💓 ba-bum ba-bum ba-bum ba-bum ba-bum 🫀💖💓💘💓 *milk truk crashes into a bakery store in the background spilling white liquid and dough on the streets* 🚚💥🥛🍩🍩🍩 BABY WANTS A SLICE 🍕🍕🍕🍕 *inhales from the gas tank* ⛽💨💥 honka honka honka honka 🚗💨 *masturbates furiously* 👋👋👋👋 ohhhh my gooooodd~ 😩✨🔥

Giants in their respective genres. A great album with some great tracks.

So great to hear these voices and after the album played on spotify I got some of Trio II and it also sounded great. I'd put it on again for sure.

Omg two absolute bangers on the bounce this is an excellent week

Country is not usually my vibe but pretty much any of the female country singers that have been on the list so far have been great. This is no exception. Although I was surprised it was released it 1987. It sounds older than that. Loved it way more than I thought I would.

Genial álbum. Qué letras, qué pasión de las tres reinas del country. No sabía de su existencia y cada canción me llegó. Viva el country.

Three immensely talented ladies arguably at the height of their powers, definitely Dolly. Emmylou Harris was so beautiful then and still hot now, even if she's pushing 80.

I judged this album by its terrible cover but I must admit it has some lovely songs.

Quite lovely

The album took 3 popular female country icons at the height of their career and harmonized them. It's a good album. It won a Grammy. It went platinum. I don't hate it. Still, country is rarely my thing. So I appreciate it's genius, but I'm not moving any songs to my playlist. I can't give it at a 3 though because I appreciate if I was a country fan, this would be amazing.

Good god!

It’s real good. How could it not be

Great album and fantastic vocals. Not the biggest country fan but respect alot of old Country music from this era. 7/10

Beautiful voices! Not all of these songs were amazing but honestly their voices made up for that. Enjoyed this on the whole 4 ⭐️

Wow this was a beautiful album. I admittedly love country music and sad music in general so this is right at the intersection of my taste. I really enjoyed this one

Three extremely talented musicians singing together in perfect harmony: what's not to love?

Dolly’s voice is everything, Linda got me right in the feels, and while I struggled a little with Emmylou’s tone on this record, she found me in those lower registers. I’ve Had Enough destroyed me in the best way, and Wildflowers is a new favourite. Just loved the warm, golden harmony between three amazing women.

Wonderful harmonies

An absolute pleasure to listen to holy cow. For people who say they do not like country, they need to give this album a listen. It is incredible that this album keeps more traditional country alive and thrumming only 2 years before Garth Brooks would hit the scene and set the pace for the big stadium country of the 90s that now dominates popular country's landscape.

Really good country/bluegrass. Vocally, of course, it's fantastic. The musical support is light to focus on the singers, which is a shame, I think. Still, it's worth hearing. 4/5

Wish it wasn’t all ballads but this is beautiful.

About time for some female artists. I mean, I love all of these women on their own and together, I'm sure it's a straight banger. I was looking at other reviews for this album and someone said the following and you know what, I agree: "This turned me into an atheist. Or alchemist. Or whatever the term is that means I'd really like to fuck Linda Ronstadt. Or Emmylou Harris, which I believe some comic referred to as Gram Parsons disease. "

Tyttöenergiaa ja kaunista laulantaa. Kertakaikkiaan. Kantri

Chouette

Wow, what a trio. They all sound fantastic and this is a lovely, chill (if somewhat depressing) country album. I think this is country music at its best and I could listen to them sing with a steel guitar backing all day!

Dolly Parton and Linda Rondstadt are always amazing. Together even better.

🎵 Album #49 / Dolly Parton, Linda Ronstadt & Emmylou Harris – Trio (1987) 🗯 Country’s Avengers? A female Highwaymen? But instead of capes and hectic testosterone, it’s cowboy boots, hair bigger than Texas, and harmonies that could part clouds. I didn’t even know this existed before now, but wow. Three icons at the peak of their powers, trading verses and locking into harmonies so tight you’d think they were born singing together. Dolly twangs like sunlight, Emmylou keeps it grounded, Linda soars like she’s got a jetpack hidden in her throat. The material leans traditional — gospel, bluegrass, and rootsy ballads — but in their hands, even the oldest standards feel timeless. To Know Him Is To Love Him shimmers, Those Memories of You aches, Wildflowers beams pure meadow joy. It’s not just a “supergroup” — it’s three giants having fun, and somehow making it sound effortless. Passing this one onto Mum! Verdict: Excellent (a harmony masterclass with extra hairspray) For fans of: Patsy Cline, Alison Krauss, Dolly wigs, voices that sound like home

How lovely country can be. Can't believe how much I prefer this to weylon jennings. It's like the Beatles never happened

Something purely joyous about women harmonizing and supporting in a generous way. Everyone gets their part, weaving in and out, peacefully. I don’t like country’s past tendency to mourn for men, but really it’s about the women and the sound isn’t it? Let’s not be fooled.

Not entirely my thing but I think these vocal performances deserve a 4. Some really solid songs here.

Just a dang pretty record. It’s all pretty mellow - more Emmylou than Dolly vibe.

I loved this album Loved the melody and the voices I do wish there was a bit more variation of sound

4/5 - I needed to hear this because the harmonies are great and it feels like a landmark supergroup album, since I'm not aware of a woman-led supergroup before this, though there probably was one. I'm not a huge country fan, but "Wildflowers" was a standout track for me.

- The combination of these three voices sends chills up my spine. 4 because some of the songs aren't the best .... -

Damn right there's freight trains in heaven!! What harmonies!! 4

Wow, I had Carole King, Kacey Musgraves, and now Dolly, Linda, and Emmylou - all in a row! This album concludes an incredible trio (sorry) benevolently bestowed upon me by the album gods. These are some of the most talented singer-songwriters alive, and knowing the ratio of male to female artists included in the list, it's super cool to have generated three albums in a row fronted by five women. My favorite song is the Dolly-penned Wildflowers. The traditional, Rosewood Casket, is another highlight. But their voices blend so well that every song is enjoyable. I'll have to plan on listening to Trio II (1999) as well.

good voices

Amazing. Will be on repeat for the next couple of weeks

What a surprise. Great album

Three badass bitches doing their thing out loud.

Despite not being a big fan of the musical genres they represent, Dolly Parton, Emmylou Harris and Linda Ronstadt have made a pretty sweet record. On their own, I respect their work and like all of them, so it shouldn't come as a surprise this is as likeable as it is, though sometimes collaboration albums could be a bit tiring, pandering and boring. This isn't the greatest album I've heard, (still more country than I care to hear) but their voices are top notch and the performances are worthwhile. I'll file this under, "listen only once in a while".

I never knew of this trio but I thoroughly enjoyed listening to it. Just like everything with Dolly Parton.

Great stuff. Favorite track: "Wildflowers"

Reminds me of the gospel roots of country music

3 legends making some beautiful music with this one. Those harmonies soar. I only wish the song selection and arrangements allowed for more upbeat ditties.

So into this trio and this album. The beginning is solid, but falls a little flat towards the end. That said, I relistened to it 3x and will be returning so rounding up and giving this a 4.

Heavenly harmonies from 3 idols

my achey breaky heart

A good country album. The harmony of their voices together is the highlight of the whole thing. It's divine! I'll give it 4 stars.

Beautiful voices and sweet and vulnerable lyrics. Quite some highlights on here on the lyrical front. That being said, im not too familiar with the two artists outside of dolly Parton, and I wasn't able to properly recognize who was singing.

So fire

somewhat country vibes, nice singing, felt like a classic from its time, overall peaceful to listen to

I agree with at least one other project participant who mentioned that Dolly's voice predominated this album a little too much. For my part, I do like her voice, but more so when she is singing upbeat numbers, on an album like this, I would have preferred to listen to Emmylou or Linda as the leads. Indeed, wherever the three voices were in harmony on this album, the result was spectacularly good. All in all, I'm sure I will return to this album from time to time, as in general, I like it a lot.

Good album with three legends of country music.

Dolly <3 tähän aikaan oli kantrikin vielä kunnollista.

Didn’t know this collab existed. Fun super group

You better be Making Plans to give this album a listen. It’s like Wildflowers in an open meadow.

This was great. Enjoyed it.

It took a bit to warm up; I thought it might be a snooze at first. But once “To Know Him Is to Love Him” hit, it launched into a hot streak

This is so good, and honestly what country’s all about! Pure, sad, American poetry.

Excellent trio! Good voices and nice songs

i love this album and all three women in the TRIO... a trio of queens if you ask me. this is kinda morning music too.. imagine making eggs while listening to this.. holy shit. putting some harissa on the eggs, and this is playing from the speaker... chef's kiss. you're toasting pita bread and you hear 'to have known him is to love him' gently playing from the bedroom as the love of your life stirs from their slumber.. wow. just wow

If you would have told me at the tender age of 12 that I would be listening to this album in 2025 and would have truly enjoyed it, I would have said that you were crazy. I loathed anything country when I was a kid, mostly because my parents latched onto it as their second coming in the 1980s and early 1990s. It was in my DNA to hate this music. Why? Because they loved it SO much. But time is a fickle thing. You put enough distance between you and something, and that revisit might be wonderful, which is what happened here. You can't beat these ladies' harmonies, and their beautiful homespun country blue grass sound is just refreshing. This was a joy to listen to, and the only thing I wish is that I had taken the time a while back to give it another listen.

Not revolutionary but this is a nice enough listen

Pretty pleasant listening.

‘And people say she’s just a big pair of tits’ Decent. Simpsons: Yes

Not my usual kind of thing but quite enjoyed it.

Have never gone through their discographies, but growing up in the South I'm aware of each of their legendary status in the genre. This one lived up to the hype for me. One of those albums that remind me how good country can be before most of the monstrosities put out today. It faded a bit the second half but still liked it overall Rating: 4.4

probably 4 out of 5

Three Queens of Country doing what they do best and having a hell of a lot of fun doing it together
