Reviews (page 2 of 10)

I became familiar with "Take it Easy" and "Peaceful Easy Feeling" when I was just little, and certainly not allowed to pick the radio station. These songs were just ubiquitous so I thought that's what music sounds like. Taking a critical ear to the this album, now, I hear how very deeply twangy it is. That doesn't instantly disqualify it, I do love me some CCR. But past Take It Easy, which I can't really judge, and Witchy Woman with now strikes me as deeply weird, Chug All Night is terrible, just terrible, and it goes pretty much downhill from there. This is drivel. Oh mercy, I just got to Earlybird; I was thinking 2 stars because of the hits but man this is dreadful. What a shame. These guys are all so talented, but the whole is so much less than the sum of the parts. Oof. Makes me wonder what other 70's culture that I swallowed whole without question I should be reexamining?

primera impresión me re cago durmiendo estos chabones si hacian un tema sin usar la palabra woman: ⚰️ me faltan 4 temas sigo sosteniendo que es un somnifero bueno listo lo mas aburrido que escuché en mi vida literalmente it was so bad i wanna give you a 0

Nah man, I'm not doing this shite a second time. I gave them a chance last time you gave me this album. Fool me once...

The Dude abides

super chill album, gives me a summer vibe, couple bangers i kept and knew previously

Incredible debut.

My favorite birds!

CVJ Aria.

siempre bueno

this was the perfect Playlist to go driving with the windows down woot woot

This album is so goated. Literally every song except Most of Us are Sad were absolute bangers. Makes me super excited for the Eagles concert I’m going to

Excellent! Great debut album!

Truly one of the greatest albums to ever exist! It combines acoustic folk and country with rock n roll to get this sound that not many other people could replicate. Insanely good!

Excited for this one. Crazy because I was literally listening to songs off of this album on my drive to work. Going into this, I obviously love the songs "Take it Easy" and "Peaceful Easy Feeling", and I am hoping for more of that style. The fact that this is the Eagles first album they released is impressive to say the least. After finishing this album I immediately want to relisten to it, it is so enjoyable. There's a reason the Eagles made such an impact and after listening to this it makes perfect sense. Easy 5/5 for me.

I felt happy after listening to this

Iconic, legendary

This album and I go way back, I've been listening to this for as long as I've been able to use a record player

People seem to dog on the Eagles these days. I don't know why. This is beautiful country rock with wonderful harmonies. I was lucky enough to see them in 2013

INPUT = {"artist": "Eagles", "album": "Eagles"} LINEUP = {"men": 4, "women": 0} FEATURED_ARTISTS = {"men": 0, "women": 0} TOTAL_MEN = 4 TOTAL_WOMEN = 0 WOMEN_PERCENTAGE = 0 OUTPUT = "Maximum score awarded. 5/5"

Every once in a while - and I do mean rarely- this list actually produces an album that is truly great and your life would be lessened by not experiencing. The Eagles early stuff would all fit that description. Perfect harmonies, solid musicality, and feel good up temp rock n roll. God Bless the Eagles. Needs more than 5.

Beautiful sounding, legendary singles, and never gets old. So easy to fall in love with their work.

YESSSSSSSS

Just the beginning...

Always makes me think of mom

Not only great to remember those fabulous hits from the Eagles but also interesting to listen to more recent tracks.

beautiful album i love don henleys voice, my parents saw him in australia back in 2017 and im forever jealous they said his voice sounded the exact same

❤️

Hate it all you want, it’s a debut for the ages.

Great band from the 70’s. Made the 70’s music scene what it was. Great songs.Their music will last throughout the ages.

5 stars

Great country album

Better than I imagined

Hell yeah, bangers. It’s got Witchy Woman, which I already like from my Halloween playlist, but the other songs are like all bops too

Love them !!

The first and best

I actually kinda like the Eagles

My band!!!!

Perfect easy listen!

Bangers with some snoozers between em.................... but it's the eagles so their snoozers are still bangers the chug one was a joke tho

I love Eagles but I have never listened to this album in full so I am excited. Track 1 is a classic, I know every word to this song and it is amazing. I have never heard track 2 before but I love it. Eagles is one of those bands that gets a lot of attention, but it is really well deserved. I like track 3 a lot too, it is a little less melodic than the first two tracks but I think it adds a nice touch of diverse sound into the album. Track 4 has no lyrics. This is a nice ballad, I like it a lot. This album has been really good so far, maybe it will be five stars. The guitar at the beginning of track 5 is very attractive. There are also no lyrics for this track, which is honestly surprising considering this is a pretty popular album. Track 6 is another really good ballad. Track 7 is also pretty slow and very good. I have no complaints for this album so far, it is a classic. Track 8 has a very Beach Boy sound, but it sounds nice. I think they pull it off in their own way. Track 9 is probably my favorite on this album as of right now. Track 10 was also really good. Honestly, I have no bad notes on this album. I think track 3 was my least favorite but it was still really good. I am happy to have my first five star album!!

Haven't heared their pre-Hotel California stuff before. This is even better. Soulful southern rock even better than my expectations.

Overall very chill tunes, either melancholic or cheerful, but quite laidback. Pretty relaxing. Solid album.

Banjo.

Beautiful songs and lyrics that stick with you. I loved having this soundtrack my day and truly feeling like it was enhancing everything I was doing.

me han gustado todas las cancionesssss

Eagles self-titled & debut! What a classic! There’s depth, great lyrics, vocals too. It was good! Prepare yourself for the first time listening. It’s a beautiful narrative about this group and their development through the early 70s. Solid performance. 9.1/10

Loved it !!!

Nice surprise 😁

Classic

The Eagles eponymous debut created a whole genre of rock music. Building on rock, folk, and country roots, Eagles (before they added "The" to the name) launched the Soft Rock genre that was popular throughout the 1970s and into the 80s. The good news is that it did so with rocket launch rather than a firecracker. The three hit songs on the album, Take It Easy, Witchy Woman, and Peaceful, Easy Feeling, are still staples of classic rock today and for good reason. The evoke this image of the simple pleasure of hanging out in the Southwestern desert while pulling at the emotional strings of love, both good and bad. Besides the hit songs, the album as a whole follows that direction, weaving stories about the desert landscape with irrational women and the men who are equally irrational. It all plays like the soundtrack for a modern Western movie. Eagles is not dull or boring or sappy. It is, also not loud and frantic. So, if you are finally tired of that James Taylor dross, listen to The Eagles starting with this album. You'll groove that peaceful and easy feeling.

This album is literally so so good and definitely the first one i’ve gotten so far that will go on my playlist. Holy mug 10/10

Every song was a hit.

i love the eagles bro

Great album for summer, some awesome tunes on there.

Great band

It was fine

Not only did I like this album, but I loved it so much that after I finished it, I immediately put on the "Hotel California" album, listened to all of that one, and then came back and listened to about half of this one again. It starts off really strong with "Take it Easy," which is just a chill, feel-good rock song. The rest of the songs are strong on their own but also work together as an album. Nothing felt weak. Everything felt intentional. There was variety in the music but a consistency throughout. Everything seemed to fit. An easy 5 stars for me.

Amazing album Their second best but amazing nonetheless No skips

Classic sunset in America country desert rock

Insane first album.

Discazo.

Excellent album from start to end

Eagles is maybe one of the few country American rock bands that you can listen to non-stop!Glen Frey has a voice that really soothes your soul! They are so good that in Take it easy for example (that i really love) can play the badjo almost like an arp giving so much energy to the song!So many good songs in this album..Witchy woman,Chug all night,Take the devil,Early bird..A masterpiece.

This band is just stacked. There's no denying it. Normally, that much talent in one place causes huge problems. In this case, it also produced undeniable hits.

I love the eagles. they are such a staple beyond hotel california. this one is such a fav. witchy woman is also my fall staple.

I’m going to veer from the group and rate this highly, classic singles but even the deep tracks are mostly solid. I wish these ratings were out of ten, because really I think this album is an 8.5, but I guess that means I’m rounding up.

Great addition to my library

Although I’m a fan of the Eagles I’d never listened to this whole album. Outside of the big hits the rest of the album was pretty good and Eagles like.

Witchy Woman + Nightingale alone deserve at least 4 stars

Eagles (self-titled debut) is the sound of four guys harmonizing their way through heartbreak, heatstroke, and highway loneliness—all while pretending they’re not emotionally wrecked from being ghosted by someone named Cheryl. This album doesn’t try to be deep—it just pulls up beside you in a dusty convertible, throws a beer can into the desert, and starts singing about women who left and dreams that died. There’s a reason boomers clutch this record like it’s a holy relic. It’s America with a tan and a hangover. ⸻ Rating: 4.2/5 Short Review: Clean harmonies, dusty despair. Like if sadness grew a mustache and took up rhythm guitar. Favorite Track: “Witchy Woman” – because sometimes you need to blame your bad decisions on supernatural women instead of personal accountability. Consistency With Me: 6.5/10 Why: I respect it, but it’s a little too sincere. Too many feelings hiding behind sunglasses and slide guitar. I’m more cold synth and dry wit. This one’s more: “Let’s sit on the porch and emotionally unravel together.”

honestly this is a no skip album for me and i love it so much. awesome music to listen to on a july day with the windows down

really nice album, i think i will be revisiting this album siguro on warm summer days, or cold mornings, i play when i want something nice to be the background music of my day while doing things

I liked this?? Like a lot?? Make cuz it created the chillest vibe while i played Skate 3 at 2am. Its not far from a lot of stuff that i dont like but they really killed it. Harmonies are amazing ofc but the instrumentals are solid and maybe thats it

I’m at a 5. Just a bit higher, really. Not quite at the same level as “Hotel California”, but it didn’t need to be; this is just a great hybrid of country & rock, that leans a bit more into a Thin Lizzy or a ZZ Top style as opposed to just sort of biting the Rolling Stones. Of course, making all of those comparisons sort of undermines just how good the Eagles are as a band, and how much credit they rightfully deserve here. This is a great album off the jump – I definitely figured I would’ve heard “Take it Easy” at some point, and once that chorus hit, it immediately clicked. I wasn’t prepared for the rest of the album to just click like that for me, though. I don’t want to write a paragraph on every track here, but there’s not a single miss here, as far as I’m concerned. The writing on this album is really strong, & both Glenn Frey & Don Henley deserve their credit for vocally bringing these tracks to life. However, it wouldn’t hit like that if not for the band’s performance. They’re on fire throughout this whole thing; every guitar solo, every percussive solo, and any chance for the soundscape to shine isn’t wasted, no matter what’s getting the spotlight. Honestly, adding Joe Walsh to the band by “Hotel California” feels like adding Kevin Durant to the Warriors all those years ago; it’s just not fair. Big shoutout to the banjo taking over the track on “Earlybird” and just killing it, by the way. It’s also perfectly paced, which feels like a nice addendum to how much I was hating on “Babylon” being the closing track to “American Pie”; “Tryin’” is how you do it, with the band going all out & and giving the album a real sense of finality. It’s not as good as “The Last Resort” was for “Hotel California”, but it still puts a nice bow on the whole thing. I guess the Eagles are pretty good at making full albums feel satisfying. I’ve got no complaints, really. Scattered nitpicks, sure, but I don’t feel like typing any of them out, because I enjoyed this far too much to care. It’s a very, very good debut album, and after listening to these guys twice, I’m starting to see why that 70s Greatest Hits album of theirs is the best-selling album ever in the United States (supposedly; I kinda don’t buy it, honestly). Hopefully, we’ll get that second place album soon, but as far as this one goes, I’m at a very, very happy 5, if a bit higher.

Great debut containing all time classics. The music is simple but beautiful and the harmonies are outstanding. This album defines laid back, California country rock.

Lots of great songs on here and wild that Don Henley only has one lead vocal! Also serves as a reminder that the Eagles started as a country group. I also do really love the super clean production that Glyn John’s uses here and it makes the songs sound current today.

Great album

Very good

Great first record

Fantastic album- makes me think I’m in a road trip along an American highway in the seventies driving a muscle car with the same emissions as a small Asian country Specific rating - 4.8 Fav song- take it easy Least fav- we’re all sad

great!

lets' fucking go this is a solid 5/5 classic i think it may have cured my anxiety for the night

Reminds me everytime of a very bad trip long ago, gumby was trying to kill me while this album was playing, good times

Great! Enjoyed the tranquillity of this music

Take It Easy and Witchy Woman are perfect hits.

Early bird I take the devil favoriti albuma Na momente malo bacaju na CCR, steely Dan i grateful dead, zato ide ovako visoka ocjena. Tipa, uskoro si dodajemo ovu ploču u kolekciju, sve jasno

Ovaj put moram izdvojit tri favorita - Take It Easy, Chug All Night (lol, been there lately) i Nightingale.

Classic tune, Take It Easy. Song 5/5. Witchy Woman, 5/5. Peaceful Easy Feeling 5/5. I didn’t know they only formed in 1971 and this was their first. Had the Desperado album, of course. So sad that Glenn Frey is gone, he was hilarious in Miami Vice. Album 4/5 for bangers. The Laurel Canyon documentary was so good about the formation of all these seminal rockers. For me, my music awakening so makes this album 5/5.

A Milestone of Rock

The Eagles have a special place in my heart. I was lucky to see them this year with my fiance. This album is solid and didn't mind listening to it again on my headphone. Would normally put up the vinyl record. Take it easy, Witchy Woman and Peaceful Easy Feeling are the standouts of the album and those songs never gets old. Well produced album so 5 stars.

First time I ever listened to this album--impressive debut. Not all the songs will stick with me but to have three huge hits from one debut is exceptional. Their style and sound isn't one of my favorites but they're really good at what they do.

Anti-shoutout to Robert Christgau for giving this album a poor review because he doubted how legit the country roots of the Eagles were. Kris Kristofferson (Rest in peace) is one of the most acclaimed country artists of all time and that guy was a Rhodes scholar, hardly a hard knock country battler. He certainly didn't let the 'authenticity' of music influence his judgement of artists like 2pac who went to fucking Juilliard. Evil scummy music critics aside, this album absolutely slaps. I listened to Hotel California and was a bit bummed that it was very frontloaded. Mainly it was buyer's remorse because I bought the thing on vinyl because I liked the title track and New Kid In Town so much. This is not true for this album. Every song on this album is listenable and there are some real deep cuts that I'm surprised I haven't heard them before. Specifically a huge shoutout to Most of Us Are Sad and Train Leaves Here This Morning. The harmonies here are great, the instrumentation is great, this is peak easy listening music. This isn't some bullshit that sophists can get together and glaze, and it really shows in this albums critical reception both historically and on this website. The negative reviews on here generally are crybabies who are mad the music here isn't Bob Dylan butchering bible verses and putting a leaf blower into a harmonica or it's not some factory produced Britpop from the 90s (the music that plays in the eighth circle of hell). The band have a reputation for being a bunch of scumbags (Don Henley is a paedo), but fuck man if this was my debut album I think I would have earned the right to be a piece of shit too. Fun fact, the bassist Randy Meisner's grandparents are all Volga Germans. Joe Exotic is also descended from Volga Germans. Also the later drummer's sister-in-law has been a missing person since 1996.

Perfect

Awesome album. I didn't appreciate the banjo until I heard it in take it easy.

Great!

Classic. LOVE!

I hate the fucking Eagles man

iconic

LOVE! Really enjoyed this one, I will play it all the way through again. Really solid tunes, everything sounds brilliant. 4.5/5

this was fire if you don’t think so you’re stupid and lame

One of the best albums ever!

Cool! I love it!

I f*ckin hate the Eagles man! Maybe not quite hate. Been meaning to revisit some Eagles since I read a book about LA culture in 74 where I learned they were Linda Rondstadt's backing band. Production is top notch. Clean guitar sound, all the musicians are on form, and although it weaves its own path between country, rock, blues and folk and may be the birth of Americana it is still an outstanding record with some great songs. A slightly begrudging 5 stars.

This is just great. Great harmonies, solid guitar playing and great songs executed to perfection.

pretty good + hype

Chilled so hard to this, these uptight chilling haters could never

really easy to listen to

hote l californa

great album, only complaint is that it's too short

All of you that follow the troll of hate the fucking eagles; your loss. Great Music. Not their best album, but still 4.75 stars (I feel sorry for you musically starved people)

A great album. Some great songs.

It’s giving worn denim and feathered bangs. I especially loved “Take the devil”

The Eagles being The Eagles. Can't ask for much more

Loved it.

claaassic

I feel like I’m playing euchre with dad in the basement 😎

Great album with a great rock n' roll sound mixed with some chill Southern rock vibes. Eagles just don't seem to miss.

It's the Eagles, it's great, it's got some hits but some real unknown gems

Classic old school country-rock.

The best albums have their own sound, and this one fits the bill. Who knew this is where Sweetheart of the Rodeo would take us

So much talent. I've loved the country/rock crossover genre before it was even a thing. Witchy Woman, Take It Easy, and Peaceful Easy Feeling are the soundtrack to my late teens/early 20's even though we were well over a decade past the release of this classic. Good friends, an amateur with a decent voice and basic guitar skills, cheap beer, and Eagles sing-alongs. Suddenly, I'm 18 again.

Right out of the blocks this album showed what a talented group of musicians can put together. Timeless lyrics and music. Plus great songs from Jackson Browne that I didn't realize were part of this record. Doesn't get any better than the Eagles.

Favorites

All time fave! I'm a big Eagles fan so for sure will give them a great review. Definitely recommend.

One of rock ballads greatest even albums. Fantastic

Near every track here is a Standout.

GREAT!~!!!! Just a classic

Incredible debut to a megastar band

This is an incredibly well produced record with a ton of talent and influence. Fantastic from start to finish

Easy listening! I love the vocals of lead singer , has a Native American vibe…. Eagles are great. I remember Uncle Jeff singing one of their songs “love will keep us together” at Sally and Mitch’s wedding in Pasadena…? Good times I’ll have to hover around with the Eagles some more before the next day’s album drops

Great album from one of my favorite bands.

This was a real pleasure. Hell Freezes Over will always be my favorite though.

Another super nostalgic album for me. The vibes, man.

Absolutely vibey as fack, like too good actually!

Loved it. The only Eagles song I really knew before was Hotel California. Will listen to them more.

It's interesting listening to music I heard as a kid as an adult, understanding references that went over my head back then. I liked the whole album but Earlybird was a surprise, and now on my favorites list.

I also own this album, this is great classic easy rock, dad stuff 👍

Great album

From the first track it’s clear. This debut and likewise this band are about to do some big things. Heeding their advice and taking it easy wasn’t difficult as I maneuvered my way through this series of tracks. A stellar debut by one of rocks finest ensembles.

I did grow up with my parents listening to Eagles music, so this was surprisingly nostalgic for me. I had a really fun time with this one.

I don't know eagles I Love Eagles I want to know more about Eagles

The definitive Eagles album.

Eagles really nailed their sound on their first album, very high four but I'll give it a five for a very solid first album

Just a phenomenal album. Still not sure if I prefer this or Hotel California though.

This is great

pretty good

Baita som, rockzao classic

I LOVE THE EAGLES AN IMMEDAIATE 5/5

Because I've never listened to this album, it was an interesting mix of either songs I've heard 17 billion times or songs I've never heard. The songs I'd never heard held up to the classics, and this was some good stuff.

Being a “best of” kind of Eagles fan, much of this album was new. By the second listen, all the tracks felt familiar due to that easy-breezy, California-country-rock-squeezy style.

Holy smokes! I'd never quite registered the banjo-picking that comes in on the instrumental section of Take It Easy. That's quite something. Nice to listen to classic country-tinged rock from the early 70s. It gave this witch-ay woman a peaceful easy feeling for sure.

I grew up listening the The Eagles: Greatest Hits 1971-1975 and Hotel California. That and their later hits have pretty much been it for me. It was great hearing the first album. Talk about coming out of the gate fast… the first two songs on the first album, Take It Easy and Witchy Woman, remain some of the best of a group with a lot of bests. Really wonderful.

I love

A classic album

The sound of country rock in the early 70s. A trip back to a mythical time of faded denim, carefree beautiful women and endless warm nights by swimming pools partying. The three and four part harmonies are where the real magic is found, and Don Henley's voice is incomparable.

Great debut album by the Eagles, really liked the sound here which I felt was more raw and actually more blues-rock esque than their later albums. Reminded me a bit more of CCR

Love the blue grass feeling, this is right on for my idea of an easier classic rock

Oh boy... here we go... My perspective of The Eagles has largely been based on negative opinions from music fans. Maybe it was their omnipresent hold on the psyche of the culture and their admittedly surprising accolades and achievements and the cantankerous nature of the band members towards themselves and later musicians who would attempt to interpolate their sounds with theirs; to make a long story short, The Eagles aren't seen as cool. So, in coming across this album, I was expecting something of a farce; a confirmation of the preconceived notions of blandness and overratedness. I was wrong. This album is great. Sure some of the foreign yet familiar songs threatens to make the album teeter towards the emergent dad rock that'll come but, thankfully, that doesn't happen and what I came across was an album that wore its aesthetic and influences on its sleeve (the Dillard & Clark cover was a pleasant surprise) and pinpointed its intentions for future success. Cosmic country posers or not, The Eagles couldn't be denied on their first go around. Put down all preconceptions and give this a try.

I used to listen to The Eagles quite a lot - but usually to all of their tracks mixed together, so I didn't know these tracks are from their debut. And you wouldn't hear it without knowing - the tracks are amazingly polished and mature for a debut effort. However, they don't completely come together in a organic way. The styles of the different songwriters are still a bit too distinct. As a whole, it's still a very good album and The Eagles' success was well-deserved. That said, I almost took a star off because of the jarring, abysmal Earlybird. No idea how that made its way through production. But the rest is good enough to look past that mistake. The two biggest highlights of the album are the two Henley songs for me - Witchy Woman (a longtime favorite of mine) and Nightingale.

Day 2 An outstanding album. Few minutes into listening to it, I already knew it was going to be a great experience. I love everything about it. It was my first and definitely not last Eagles album that I listened to. Favorite song - hard to choose but it's probably Most of Us Are Sad

Old rock & roll. Vinilo.

I mostly prefer their studio versions, but they're the Eagles!

Classic

Taking it easy listening to this one

What’s not to like

Good Eagles

California Classic.

Glyn Johns was hot as a pistol in 1972. He'd worked with bands like The Beatles, Rolling Stones, The Who and Led Zeppelin, and David Geffen wanted Johns to work his magic on a new band he'd just signed to his new record label, Asylum. Johns was flat out unimpressed when he first saw the Eagles perform. At the time, Bernie Leadon was the band's de facto leader, having been a member of Flying Burrito Brothers. But Glenn Frey's alpha dog personality fought Bernie's influence, so the Eagles weren't sure what the hell kind of band they were at the time, and Johns clearly heard that. But he also heard the magic the band's four voices had when they harmonized. He knew then that the band had something, and he could take all of the promises of the Byrds and the aforementioned Flying Burrito Brothers and solidify the Eagles as the premier country-rock band. That magic is all over this record. Yes, you've heard the three hits ad nauseum. But listened as a part of the album, they all flow together with the vision Johns heard in those gorgeous harmonies. Each band member gets to sing lead on at least 2 songs here. To my ears, the MVP of the album is Randy Meisner, who was always the secret sauce, but never sought publicity and was happy to strum his base while hitting those insane high notes. Randy didn't have the outgoing personality of Frey or Don Henley. Like Leadon, he was content simply being in a band. But the three songs Randy takes lead vocals on here are the best of the non-hits. His song "Tryin" gets my vote for best track on the album. "Tryin" should have been a single, but a follow-up album beckoned. This record got a particular rave review in Rolling Stone when it was released. Reviewer Bud Scoppa called it one of the "best first albums of the year. And I could be persuaded to remove the word 'first' from that statement". That wasn't good enough for Henley and Frey. Glyn Johns would soon be out of the picture. Leadon would quit the band after four albums, followed by Meisner an album later. It was always going to be the Henley/Frey show. It's hard to argue with the success they had, especially in terms of cranking out the hits. But Glyn Johns was correct. The Eagles were at their best when they'd blend those voices into soaring harmonies.

Old rock & roll. Vinilo.

There are a handful of debut albums that just blow me away. This is most certainly one of them. It's easy to understand why Eagles are one of the most popular rock bands of all time.

i deffo like it more than hotel california, which i didn't expect it's like more country-y but in a good way? idk i just rly enjoY!!

Fantastic album

Reminds me of My Grandfather who listened to Eagles and was very late to the Fandom of the Eagles.

Classics

STELLAR album. So many classics, a blending of acoustic and electric that rivals any, and thematically tied to boot. A rare 5 on an album I'd never heard all the way through.

Great sound.

4th November 2021 Listened on the living room speaker while working, then went to Cox and ailis's for dinner. Amazing stuff, song crafting.

🙂 Peaceful Easy Feeling 🙂

Excellent. Had it on a loop for weeks and they were in my Spotify top 5 this year

5/5 - Who is Don Henley?

Great album! Had a few tracks I had never heard, and none disappointed.

Fantastic album. Heard it many times

Ahora entiendo sus grandes vendas. Lq guitarra es majestuosa.

good one

A nice mellow album, good for the morning or an afternoon drag

Classic after classic.

I've always enjoyed The Eagles. My mum used to play their albums in the car and round the house. Listening to this was a blast from the past. As debut albums go this is a very good offering.

Great debut album - songs are great, musicianship and production are great, but the vocals are incredible - songs many great singers in this band, and the harmony arrangements are superb.

Schließe mich meinen Vorrednern an

Another blast from the 70's... early Eagles with Bernie Leadon and Randy Meisner were definitely more country-leaning than the Joe Walsh/Tim Schmidt version. But they were and still are part of the soundtrack of my life.

This album features one of my late dad's favourite songs. (Take It Easy). I also liked that song, but not as much as my dad did. "Self-Titled" has a ton of great tracks. My favourites include "Most of Us Are Sad" and "Take the Devil". "As for "Earlybird", it felt like it was made to make the album longer. 4 stars for "Self-Titled".

Don’t know why there’s so many haters, I’m not with the Dude on this one, I like it!

On a dark desert highway Cool wind in my hair Warm smell of colitas Rising up through the air

This album is like sailing in to Schoolhouse Bay off Kawau Island and dropping anchor to settle in for the night. The weather is a bit blustery, so you have found a sheltered spot, before calling your friends Wayne and Helen who are most definitely white people, and telling them to sail around and meet you for a glass of Pinot Noir. Wayne and Helen have told you their friends Barry and Catherine who are also definitely white people are up at Vivian Bay and were looking for a spot to stay the night. Barry has been diving for scallops and pulled in quite a haul. You jokingly say that he and Catherine are more than welcome to join for drinks, but only because they are bringing today's catch. Sheltered from the wind, it is quite pleasant outside and you seem to have the bay to yourselves. You sit out in the cockpit, and share stories about your children who are all at university training to be doctors and lawyers. Catherine tells you that they have a house in Wanaka and you simply must go and stay with them in ski season.

Was surprising good easy listening.

Just some good ole classic rock bangers

I’d spent years hearing Eagles through the lens of Hotel California. That’s probably inevitable. The trouble is that it encourages you to listen for the beginnings of the institution rather than the reality of the band. The reality is more interesting. What surprised me most was how much of the album still belongs to the late 1960s. The counterculture hasn’t entirely packed up and gone home. There are traces of Gram Parsons throughout, particularly in Bernie Leadon’s contributions. There are moments that feel closer to The Band than to the Eagles stereotype. There is even the occasional whiff of the Grateful Dead. This is not yet a machine built for FM radio domination. It is a coalition of musicians drawing from a shared American musical ecosystem before the genre boundaries harden. That matters because the album’s strengths are often misidentified. The Eagles are commonly praised as songwriters, but what impressed me most here was their ability to realise material. Some of the songs are genuinely strong. Others are merely decent. What elevates them is the band’s judgement. They know when to add harmonies and when to hold them back. They understand dynamics. They understand endings. They understand that arrangement is composition by other means. The best example is probably “Take the Devil”. The song itself is good, but the real pleasure comes from the extended instrumental passage where the guitars nag at each other rather than solo. The conversation is more interesting than virtuosity would have been. Likewise, the ending of “Train Leaves Here This Morning” contains a beautiful block-harmony flourish that functions almost like a stage bow. It isn’t necessary. It’s there because somebody cared about how the song left the room. Again and again, I found myself thinking less about songwriting than about presentation. This is a band that understands entertainment in the best sense of the word. Not pandering. Not spectacle. Simply knowing how to hold an audience’s attention. The sequencing reflects it. The variety reflects it. Even the daftness of “Earlybird” reflects it. What initially sounds like lightweight whimsy gradually reveals itself as a playful attack on the work-and-consume treadmill, complete with mocking birdsong and a hero who just wants to lie in the sun reading books and playing music. The central tracks remain the obvious entry points. “Take It Easy” and “Peaceful Easy Feeling” have survived because they provide a form of emotional regulation. Yet both are more fragile than their reputations suggest. The former is a song about coping with overload. The latter is built on hope rather than certainty. Neither is quite the Californian confidence trick I once assumed. What ultimately won me over was not the songwriting, nor the genre, but the craftsmanship. This is not really my music. Yet I found myself admiring the care that had gone into every corner of it. The record never feels desperate to impress. It simply presents itself with confidence and competence. In the end, I found myself preferring it to Hotel California for much the same reason that I prefer Off the Wall to Thriller. Before the institution arrives, you can still hear the band.

Classic country rock.

really good

I really don’t get the Eagles hate in all of the reviews - Take It Easy everyone! I thought this album was really solid. A couple of songs I had to skip but overall I enjoyed this. (4)

"Jesus, man, could you change the channel? ... I had a rough night and I hate the f***in' Eagles, man!".

I liked most tracks on this album. Needs another listen, I think. 4/5

yesssaa

Good stuff, mid stuff, but it’s the Eagles

Was a good accompaniment album to my early morning dog walk. Mid 50’s, strolling along, and this album was just chill enough to make it a great soundtrack to it all.

one of my all time favs!

some songs were good others were blah typical no real cohesiveness 3.5/5 4/5 probs

Good but not their best

Take it easy was a great start to this album!! It was upbeat, fun, and had a great twang to it. Witchy woman had a really cool vibe and Chug all Night was awesome! Such a great track, and one that I’ve added to a playlist. It was just simple silly fun. Most of us are sad was just beautiful. The lyrics were great and the background vocals, guitar, and simple drumbeat made it work. Nightingale was another great bird themed track on this list. Train leaves here this morning was narratively great. Take the Devil had a nice sound to it. That pounding guitar in the back gave it a heavy feel even with a slower track. The whistling in Earlybird was unfortunately really annoying. Peaceful easy feeling was as advertised. Tryin was a great way to close, and I liked how they played with the tempo slightly. 4/5 ⭐️ 131/1089

Such a good album! A few classic songs but over great album!

Tienen gran mérito, pero también están sobrevalorados

478/1089 - Wtf this is so much better than Hotel California was. There's some great energy and motion in the playing and vocal harmonies. Kinda reminds me of early Doobie Brothers.

Es ehestuhnlich erfrischendes und gmüetlichs Rotmilan album. Das hed mir de start in Mentig nach 4 Tög ligurischen strand versüesst

Mooie plaat!

noice ma 1 nummer is vf gewoon met stukjes vals gezang dus geen 5 sterren… helaas pindakaas

Le son mythique des Eagles, entre influences country et soft rock, nice trip down the lane !

some nice songs, I lalways only think of hotel california which I dread hearing for the 1000th time but this stuff is pretty nice, especially the first song of which I can't remember the name

Surprised to see another Eagles album after "Hotel California" appeared, but I understand it is the last on this list. The country rock feel of "Take it Easy" was a fun and light way to start an album, with positive set of lyrics which is always refreshing to hear when it's so easy to write lyrically about something sad and depressing. The turn to a more sinister riff and raspy vocals was a great switch up in "Witchy Woman" straight after that opening track. The reverbed guitars cupping the chorus was especially enjoyable. "Chug All Night" took the evil reverb guitars even further than Witchy Woman, and with a bass supporting that the guitar riffs nearly matched in tone was something I didn't know I'd always wanted to listen to; really cool. Despite all this praise, 3 tracks in, the lyrics all allude to relationships with mention of women on every one. This never sits right with me. "Train Leaves Here This Morning" was, as I understand, sung by a different vocalist in Bernie Leadon, which seems a shame to come as 'a big surprise' because this tells me he doesn't sing on many, if any, other tracks. This track had all the feeling of simple living joy, thanks in large part to Leadon's voice. Beautiful track. Tracks also enjoyed were "Take the Devil", "Earlybird", "Tryin'". Overall, though I really enjoyed the album and don't have much to gripe about, it still lacked something for me that makes me question how often I will return to these songs. With that said though, I don't think I've ever heard a bad Eagles song across the two albums on 1001.

got some killers on this one

Good classic rock music and a singer with a great voice. I had only heard Hotel California before but this was a great time.

My best song is train leaves here this morning. It's a slow folksy song that's a little sad

My mom’s favorite band so I’ve heard it a lot.

They get some flak for being „dad-rock“ these days, but it’s actually some pretty good music!

This album put me in a great mood. Perfect for a sunny Spring day. The band is tight. The lyrics and song construction, harmonies, all work together. Take It Easy Witchy Woman Peaceful Easy Feeling

Sorry, Dude, I can't hate the Eagles. It's some damn good music and starts off with one of their best, Take it Easy. Not every song is nearly as good as that one but it's still good easy listening rock.

This album really surprised me. I was expecting another mediocre 70s rock album but instead it had a bunch of characteristics of music I love, particularly: -yearning men -witchy women -decent guitar solos -consistently portrays women as people and worthy of respect -wanderlust lyrics

Peaceful Easy Feeling music

Awesome!

Perhaps the dadliest of the dad-rock. As much as I've expanded my musical palate over the years, I do still have a soft spot for Eagles. Sure they don't exactly push the envelope, but sometimes music just has to help one chill out. 4 is their hard ceiling, but still a nice vibe. Not defending Chug All Night though. That one's kinda rough.

Great debut. Not a 5/5. Not on the level of Revolver. But absolutely worth celebrating for what it is: the birth of one of America’s most successful bands and a blueprint for the California country‑rock sound.

I didn’t want to like the Eagles but I did

There are a couple very good tunes on this. The best thing these guys ever did was connect with Jackson Brown.

Surprisingly I really enjoyed the eagles I never really gave them a chance but I’ve just proved myself wrong now ?! Haha anyways fav song : witchy woman

lovely record

Handful of proper hits on this one. I enjoy the Eagles.

okayyy

really surprised by this one, don’t know why i expected to dislike it but what a great time! hated that one singular track that has really annoying birds tweeting at the start

Great debut record, with multiple classic rock staples. Is it soft and a little formulaic? Sure. But I can’t listen to these songs and this record and not be in a better mood. And that’s definitely worth something. In a way, I think I prefer the chill early Eagles sound to the more heavily produced records that would come later. 4/5

Such a classic and for good reason. Listening to this one with your windows down on a sunny day is such a wonderful feeling.

Angenehme entspannende Stimmung

lindo album, lo disfruté. no me copan muchos The eagles

I “see the vision”

Nothing on here is as good as the title track of "Hotel California", but the overall album is stronger.

Classic.

Soft, calm and cool rock with country elements, this album by the Eagles marked the beginning of one of the best bands to ever do it, with songs that still resonate today, they make it easy and the mix of vocals sound splendid.

I love take it easy, and peaceful easy feeling. i also liked witchy women

This album is warm and laid back with pure harmonies that are very hard to walk past. This isn't their best album, but it is very, very good and it is very easy listening.

Decent 4. This is such a great album! Desert road trip vibes. I love it, not a bad song on here, but some are better than others. “Take It Easy”, “Witchy Woman,” “Peaceful Easy Feeling,” and “Earlybird” are my standout favorites.

3.6 stars

Interesting to hear the hits in the original context. The Eagles were more country-rock than I'd thought. Good album, nonetheless. My Rating: 4/5

Driving music

Hard to hate, too easy to love 4.4

enjoyed this - some naughty string play der

A classic rock album that's easy to listen to. I am a sucker for a good harmony, though. I'm sure my dad would appreciate some of these songs.

4 1/2 Stars: There seems to be this push to make the Eagles the Nickelback of the 70s era. It's bizarre and just plain stupid, frankly. Inside this debut you find the magic that made and continues to make this band great: perfect vocal blends, and perfect blends of that country and rock sounds. Each artist given the opportunity to showcase, and catchy as all hell, perfectly timed tracks. I even found a few songs on this album I've never heard before that could've easily made it to Top 40 radio at the time. Ignore the haters -- these guys are some of the best for all time.

Very good

Some fun songs, would listen to more by them

I grew up with the Eagles. I love Witchy Woman and Peaceful Easy Feeling. Both songs remind me of my dad. I believe he has a "Best of Album" by them, because most of the other songs on this album I had never heard before.

Starts really strongly, then kind of just floats the rest of the way. Take It Easy and Witchy Woman are both classics, thought.

The mellowness of the music mars its impact in 2026, but fuck are these birds talented. Is the banjo on Earlybird actually recorded live? It must be; too early for synth that good. Peaceful Easy Feeling makes me want to smoke a doob on my porch.

endearing, quite guitar rich and nostalgic. nothing exceptional, but it doesn't need to

fuck yes

I’ve never really cared much for the Eagles. My exposure has mostly been the big, overplayed hits, and they’ve never quite resonated with me in the way some of my favourite American bands do. So going into their debut, I wasn’t expecting much — more polished, radio-friendly country rock that would wash over me and leave little impression. But this surprised me. Eagles is far more enjoyable than I anticipated. It’s laid-back and full of melody. The harmonies are the real star of the show, rich, warm, and effortlessly tight. There’s a natural, sun-soaked feel to the record that makes it an easy, comforting listen. “Take It Easy” is the obvious standout. Its breezy, confident, and instantly memorable. “Witchy Woman” adds a darker edge, while “Nightingale” showcases just how strong those vocal arrangements are. It’s not groundbreaking, but it doesn’t need to be. It knows exactly what it is. If I’m being critical, “Earlybird” feels slightly odd musically, and the banjo doesn’t quite work for me — it tips the balance a little too far into lightweight country territory. But that’s a minor blemish on what is otherwise a cohesive debut. Favourite track: Take It Easy — effortlessly cool and the blueprint for their early sound. Least favourite track: Earlybird — musically a bit bizarre, and I really don’t enjoy the banjo here. Album artwork: Simple and effective. The desert imagery fits the laid-back, sun-drenched tone of the music perfectly.

This is a 7/10 album on its own and a 9/10 album when you’re driving Take it Easy is an all time classic and by far the best part about the album. I do think it’s pretty cool how each of the members does vocals for a couple of songs, makes it feel like a real team effort. I do think the country/rock fusion works pretty well, even if it does end up feeling a bit repetitive at times.

Easy listening, the more times i heard it the more i liked it

The Eagles debut might not get the press inches or the royalty cheques Hotel California does, but I know which one I prefer. The album blends the country stylings of Gram Parsons and Poco with classic West Coast rock and pop flair. The results are as comfortable as an old pair of cowboy boots. The album begins with the wonderful “Take It Easy” – written by Jackson Browne and Glenn Frey – a near perfect country-rocker, with an iconic lyric and a statue that celebrates it on a corner in Winslow, Arizona. Guitarist Bernie Leadon brings rustic authenticity and a country pedigree to standouts like “Witchy Woman” and “Train Leaves Here This Morning”, and their superb rendition of Jack Tempchin’s “Peaceful Easy Feeling” is the cherry on the pie. Hard to believe it was recorded in London. 9/10

Not quite as good as the other album of theirs I've had so far, Hotel California, but it is still really good. Most of the songs are chill, give off a nice vibe. Witchy Woman has a great guitar riff, that song was a lot of fun. Most Of Us Are Sad was, well, kinda sad, but it was really smooth and nice to listen to. Earlybird was fun too. Best song: Witchy Woman

Pleasant, though not as polished as the Eagles' songs I know best. Take It Easy is a strong start, no other song matches it. If I knew someone who could pick double-time banjo, and we could sing four-part harmonies, I might like to play something like this. It's Good - 7/10.
