Reviews (page 4 of 10)
Classic
Eagles, by Eagles, is incredibly fire. Its a great blend of country and rock, and I can understand why this band is so famous. I love the vocals on most tracks, and also how the tempo of the songs varied a lot. Witchy Woman was just too smooth, same with Nightingale and Take It Easy. Just a lot of quality tracks. I must say, I didn’t like the slow songs as much, but definitely not bad. All in all, Eagles is a great album. Best Song: Witchy Woman Worst Song: Train Leaves Here This Morning
Much maligned for being the pinnacle of comfy jeans and chunky white sneakers in charge of BBQ, but hard not to love the harmonies and chill vibes. Almost like taking a soak in the hot-tub.
I grew up on the Eagles. It's peak 70s and I'm here for it.
Absolute dad rock. Warm, easy-listening rock, toe-tapping, head-bopping, great harmonies. Nothing is sexy about this album, but it just goes the whole time. Any outdoor get-together could have this on in the background and you would see no fewer than 7 people grooving at all times.
Love it! Never listened to it.
So good
This is way more in line for what I expect out of the top 1001 all time albums
Solide album.
Good, nothing incredible, but very good debut from a great band 4/5
Still not loving on the Eagles or country rock in general but I recognize this as competent music, even pleasant at times. The unknown to me track Earlybird was a nice banjo surprise.
In my opinion, Eagles represents the perfect stereotype of an American rock band from the 70's. Rock of the highest quality, of course! It's unbelievable that they managed to make an album with such sound quality on its first release. Take it Easy is in every classic collection from the 70s, for sure!
Was ok
like minor gods, mighty but not transcendent
I really dismissed the Eagles for no reason, because I think I love this band! This album is definitely not on par with Hotel California, which I now wish I had rated higher, but I still enjoy this s/t debut. It’s a lot less sleazy, more Music to Play With the Windows Down™️, and a lot more country (there’s even a little bit of banjo in the background), but it’s pretty consistently good, shockingly so for a debut. The Henley and Frey cuts are the clear standouts here, though, and without them, I think I’d be a little more apathetic to this overall. Like, those are ✨classic✨ songs, even the non-singles, and the rest are just, well, songs your Dad played the Summer of ’72 while working on his Firebird. You know, songs that teleport you to a very specific time and place, and give off a very specific mood, and either you’re into that mood or you aren’t. And even though this girl would never lift the hood of a muscle car out of fear of breaking a nail, I think I love the whole vibe of an Eagles record, whether it’s more Southwestern and country, or Californian and beachy. Sad that this is where my journey ends with them formally, but informally, I’m about to crack open a cold one and chill out to their entire back catalog.
Perfect for a sunny Monday morning. It's someone else's music, but familiar :))
Great album, very chill and enjoyable. I'd give 5 starts but I know they can do so much better and I also hate the fucking eagles man.
Lotta classic stuff, always loved witchy woman. Tons of great harmonies. Love the birds on Earlybird
Solid self entitled
I found this quite enjoyable
The first Eagles album, interesting for me since I’ve only usually heard Hotel California or their Greatest hits album. I like this album, good vibe to it, more country sound than their later releases. Can’t argue that Take It Easy and Witchy Woman are monster hits!
One of the classic rock albums of a generation. So easy to put on and just vibe. Witchy Woman will always make me think of Seinfeld. Overall a fantastic rock album, good for anytime listening.
The Eagles' debut album includes some of their early hits, like "Take it Easy" and "Peaceful Easy Feeling." They made guitar-driven, country rock with harmonies from a few strong singers. This album established the band's sound, and brought the band their initial fame. This is a great collection of songs from a band that would become one of the biggest bands of the decade.
3.7/5 Best Track: Take it Easy
3.8
This album was way more basic than Hotel California. Sort of a normal classic rock sound through most of it. Without Take It Easy, it would only deserve three stars.
A seminal debut album. Smooth production, easy listening, and sonically defining for music in the 70s. There is nothing immensely profound in many of these songs, (as compared to say, Hotel California...) but their 'good vibe' and 'easygoing' storytelling is rich in this record. There is a religion to this album, and an all-Americana influence, carving out that 'country rock' sound. Instrumentally, the album glows as well. An album to listen to on a desert road trip. Favourites: take it easy, witchy woman, nightingale, peaceful easy feeling (standout), tryin.
Pretty darn good album!
Solid album wiht some excellent hits.
Apart from the hits I haven’t listened to Eagles at all. But I like this album really much.
This was better than I expected.
This is one of my favorite Eagles albums.
Good
I’ll be the first to admit that I don’t understand the hate that gets directed towards the Eagles. I think this is a good album. Plenty of other light rock like this that’s close to my heart (America, Michael McDonald). I enjoyed the listen.
The Eagles have everything needed for mass appeal, they can rock, they can soothe, they can harmonize, their songwriting is smooth, and guitar solos so tasty!
favourite: take it easy, nightingale, peaceful easy feeling least favourite: textbook feel-good music this album is great mayb 8/10
Nice soft rock esq album, nice lyrics nice music
I hadn't heard most of these before. Some catchy songs for sure, but also a few that I really didn't care for (the sad song). The final track sounds too much like the first one. A mixed bag.
I’ve not heard a huge amount by The Eagles, but I have thoroughly enjoyed most of what I have heard. I’m happy about this album being generated today. I look forward to some easy listening rock music with excellent vocal harmonies! Songs I already knew: none Favourites: Peaceful Easy Feeling There is an argument that this album was too predictable, with it being exactly what I expected from an Eagles album. However, I did still really enjoy this. The vocals are fantastic and the harmonising makes for silky smooth listening. There isn’t anything wild here - no shredding guitar solos or experimental theremins that would make it feel different, but sometimes there is comfort to be found in the expected.
That's more like it! Proper songs. I didn't like them all, but at least even the ones I didn't like were musical.
Pretty good! Ignore the Eagles haters
You can hear the tension in this album as the Eagles were deciding what type of band they were ultimately going to be. Country, rock, country/rock, pop? They were still coming into their own as writers, and discovering their strengths and direction. Interesting the 2 of the 3 most popular songs , Take it Easy and Peaceful Easy Feeling, were not written by the band. I think this is also when they decided that Meisner was not going to be a lead singer. I give it 4 stars, based mostly on the song Take it Easy.
Makes me smile. :) I'm obsessed with the lyric "1320 N. Columbus" in Train Leaves Here This Morning. But not so obsessed that I'm going to read this whole blog: https://the-reconstructor.blogspot.com/2019/11/the-byrds-1320-north-columbus-1968.html
This is what I was looking for from the Eagles, more so than Hotel California which I previously rated here. Liked Nightingale and Earlybird quite a bit. Strong 3.5 rounding up to 4.
- Enjoyable album, easy listening - Some classics in here - Not a huge fan of the bluegrass-y tones at times
I like the Eagles. I already knew "Take it Easy", "Witchy Woman" and "Peaceful Easy Feeling" but the rest is good too especially "Most of Us are Sad" and "Train Leaves Here This Morning" Not good enough for 5 stars but a solid 4
Beautiful armonics
*Insert The Big Lebowski reference here*
My least favorite album from my favorite band. Aside from the hits there's a lot of a work in progress vibe. Take it Easy may be the best roadtrip song ever. Witchy Woman was an early glimpse of the icon Don Henley would become. If Peaceful Easy Feeling doesn't lower your blood presure, see your doctor. The rest are some the worst Eagles songs ever. But like chocolate ice cream, the worst is still good.
Objectively good album
Lots of ballads/slower stuff, but I do like the western influence (banjo)
I know lots of people wanna be funny and hate the Eagles because the Dude does. I get it. It’s a funny quote, I’ve said it lots of times before myself. But honestly, my dad loved The Eagles so I know them very well and their music is uniquely nostalgic to my childhood. But also, this record is a good time. The lyricism might be kind of cheesy and cornball, but I’m not hating on it. It still fits so comfortably after all these years. An old pair of shoes I’ll never throw away.
meet the eagles
I really like this album. The vocal harmonising is incredibly distinctive for its time, creating easy-listening music like no other. The two opening tracks, "Take It Easy" and "Witchy Woman", are a brilliant one-two punch that made me immediately love the album regardless of the future tracks. The downside is that the instrumentation and harmonising is so consistent that it makes the "filler" tracks much harder to remember. The final two tracks - especially the grand finale "Tryin'" - also kick some serious butt. The music is simple, elegant, and does its job - but it's not quite mind-blowing. 4/5
When I was younger, I thought I hated the fuckin' Eagles, man, just like the proverbial Dude. Turns out I just didn't know them well. They've *never* made a perfect album, but there might be a couple of LPs in their discography where the good clearly outweighs the bad--namely this debut and *Hotel California*. The question is, do those two records deserve to be in such a list, as benevolent and accepting as one might be inclined to think of them today? For 1972's *Eagles*, there's not a *huge* iconic song in it like the title track giving its name to the other album I've mentioned in my introduction up there. Yet there's an overall, wide-eyed, youthful energy *Hotel California* doesn't have in spades in comparison. A lot of reviewers in here have praised the three singles taken out of this debut album, "Take It Easy", "Witchy Woman", and "Peaceful Easy Feeling", and it's true that those three famous cuts have a special kind of quaint charm that makes them endearing today--plus, "Take It Easy"'s chorus is so memorable that it makes the song a perfect opener. But it's when Eagles's sense of adventure takes them to less "obvious" roads that the band becomes one that somehow masters the full-length format, at least when they succeed in alternating happy-go-lucky hits with more off-kilter pleasures... Case in point: Frey's rocker "Chug All Night". With its tense, minor harmonies on the verses, unexpectedly "solved" during the solar chorus that follows them, this song epitomizes a care for dynamics and effective "twists" the Californian band rarely forgot about when recording this LP. At this point, it doesn't even matter if the song's lyrics are a little hackneyed or trite. Sometimes clichés can be served with a nice chaser, and just like tequila, they become a treat instead of a chore. And when Eagles "rocked out", they had an energy that had little to do with their country-indebted tunes, as can be witnessed with "Chug All Night"'s cousins in the album, the great "Take The Devil" and "Tryin'"--aptly evoking the desert landscapes shown on the album's artwork. Funny how a lot of listeners often quickly forget such positive things to say about this band. But maybe the Dude smokes too much pot to remember any of it... Introduced by chirps and warbles, "Earlybird" is also a very lively moment, even if it's too mild to be a "rocker" per se. Written by Leadon and Meisner, this song proves that when every single member of the band took part in compositions, they had many trump cards in their hands--because it made the whole thing sound "varied" and all over the place, somehow, if you can mean such things in a good way. Last but not least, two of the more "country" cuts are particularly effective in this record. There's "Nightingale" closing the proceedings on side one. And most especially, there's the side two opener "Train Leaves Here This Morning", co-penned by Leadon with none other than ex-Byrds Gene Clark. Check the latter's own version of the song in the LP... *No Other*, by the way. If only because this album is a truly *stellar* one. To return to Eagles' debut, it seems that the *only* borefest in it is Frey's "Most Of Us Are Sad". "Textbook"-country rock is a large part of this record. Yet it comes as a surprise that only *one* song is boring because of this, and that the rest is still pretty convincing and even thrilling to an extent. Call it a miracle. Some people can go to Death Valley and live to tell the tale, after all. 4/5 for the purposes of this list of "essential albums". Which translates to a 9/10 grade for more general purposes. Number of albums left to review: 297 Number of albums from the list I find relevant enough to be mandatory listens: 310 (including this one) Albums from the list I *might* include in mine later on: 169 Albums from the list I won't include in mine (many other records are more important to me): 227
I think all the reviews saying this is boring country rock are like the people who watch Star Wars for the first time in 2007 and think it's a tired, worn-out story. It's not derivative, it's where country rock was derived from. The Eagles lay down a kicked-back comfy groove, and I'm here for it. Slap me in some cargo shorts and call me Dad if you must, but I'm digging the bluesy solos, the liberal use of banjos, and the vocal harmonies.
Nice
Very classic rock!
Eagles debut album, just titled *Eagles*, it a huge statement for the band and shows how they helped mold rock and roll into the top genre of the 70s and 80s. The album establishes the country-rock/folk blend that would be popular throughout the 70s, as well as establishing the hard rock (see Tryin’) that would be popular in the 80s. *Eagles* shows it’s folk/bluegrass roots till the end, showcasing beautiful guitar solos and satisfying harmonies. Eagles is very experimental, which is both it’s greatest strength and it’s killer weakness. Some of the songs present were groundbreaking, but did not set any trends for the future like other songs on the album did (seriously wtf is Earlybird). Despite this, *Eagles* shows why the band was as influential and popular as it was, and it shows why the bands own *Hotel California* album would become one of the best selling albums of all time years later. A band that had the confidence to push out something so new and exciting was built for success.
Classic album. Worth a listen.
A lot of this album reminds me of college summers and driving to visit Evelyn at Georgia Southern. Lot of nostalgia points.
If you don't like my music get your own fucking cab! Pretty solid classic rock with a handful of hits. Exactly as expected from The Eagles. Not the strongest 4, but a 4 nonetheless.
I have never listened to a full Eagles album before so it is great that their debut album came up first. This has some all time classics. I have always really liked Eagles for just being the easiest of easy listening music
I’ve grown up hating the eagles simply because of my dad and not really knowing why. I honestly liked this album and i’ve been needing music like this after hearing hundreds of not so good ones on this. Impressed and optimistic.
i've never been the hugest eagles fan, but this one has always been my favorite of theirs. i much prefer their earlier output to their more radio-friendly later albums. obviously there are some tracks on here that are still played regularly on classic rock radio, so i think a lot of the context is lost for when this was released. starting off as a country rock supergroup of sorts, this album is a bit of a shift of the country rock genre towards the mainstream, away from the gram parsons-esque relative obscurity it started in. the songs that still get played on the radio ("take it easy" "witchy woman" "peaceful easy feeling") are classics for a reason, they are pretty good songs, although due to the constant overplay, i am pretty much sick of them to death at this point. the rest of the album, however, is a pretty consistent progressive (in terms of evolution, i'm not saying this is prog) take on the country rock formula, although a bit heavier on the rock than the country. my favorite of the bunch is album cut "nightingale" which has that classic eagles sound but is at least not played to death. overall, it's a solid enough album, not my favorite country rock album, but i think it's the album from the eagles i appreciate most.
Take It Easy is an amazing opening track, but unfortunately the rest of the album doesn’t quite live up to this standard
Nice!
The hits are just as awesome as I remember. I didn't feel like I got as much out of the rest of the songs that I hadn't heard before. The start and end leave put it on track for a five, but the middle brings it down.
Algjört feel-good dæmi fyrir mig. Fæ aldrei nóg!
Take it easy! A solid classic rock album by my assessment.
great country/folk rock. Eagles are always a wonderful listen. definitely for more of an easygoing mood. roadtrip album for sure.
Lots of good stuff on here. The gold standard for country rock
Lovely sound, great album.
3.75
Liked this more than hotel California, gave Beatles vibes for some reason, more folky for sure 3/4****
Rating this one is very hard to me. It's definitely better than some of the 5s I've given but at the same time it's not near as good as One of These Nights or Hotel California. Between a 4 and a 5, will decide in the A.M.
Great album. Although it is probably not fair to compare the 1972 version of the band with the 1976 version, if Hotel California is a 5, then this is a 4.
As a white boy with parents who were coming of age in the 70s, I’m basically genetically forced to like the Eagles. Donning a more objective cap, the deep cuts here aren’t great. They grew a lot as songwriters, and their later albums don’t have a song out of place.
The Eagles are an enigma to me. They are this huge band with millions of monthly listeners and multiple songs with hundreds of millions of streams. And the Their Greatest Hits 1971-1975 album is one of highest selling albums of all time. But they aren’t very popular from a critics stand point. And I can kind of see why, but I also think this was far better than it’s made out to be. For country rock, this plays it about as safe as you can get. And yet, it kind of rules for that. It’s simple and a good time. I even heard a banjo at some points. But it actually goes crazy, especially on Early Bird. He played that banjo like it owed him money. And I like that they mix acoustic and electric on the same songs, and they play at the same time. Again, very simple, but it works. This isn’t groundbreaking or anything like that, but I can envision myself as an old man playing this while sitting on my porch with my cup of coffee in the morning, watching the trees move with the wind. It has a mood to it, and it’s one I find comfort in. Rating: 7/10
Good classic rock
So good. Reminds me of St Charles.
I can’t rate Elvis Costello’s first album up for being packed full of singles and then not do the same for this album just because I don’t particularly care for The Eagles.
Great songs but some were significantly heavier than others and so it didn’t flow great
It's a classic. Lots of recognizable music.
The Eagles are a singles band to me. I have a knack for their harmonies combined with the country rock of the earlier albums. I still can't dig the opener but really enjoy 'Witchy Woman' and others. I wouldn't listen toe the album that many times again but pick out some of the best tunes.
Killer debut from an all time great band.
Take It Easy // Witchy Woman // Most Of Us Are Sad // Train Leaves Here This Morning // 3.5/5
Album has a perfect flow and some great tracks. Was great to listen to while working.
A really impressive debut album!
Listened to while working lower entrance of open air market Was p good
Fantastic intro with Take it easy and Witchy woman.
8/10 — I think Hotel California is peak, but this earlier stuff is still pretty cool it’s honestly kinda hard to think this is the same band with how much their style changed over their career
Irgendwas zwischen 3-4. Tendenz zu 4, allein schon wegen "Take it Easy".
A fine rock album that starts with a banger of a known song and is filled with a number of worthy classic rock songs that will go into a few playlists.
I love big Lebowski references but idk I think this is pretty good
Good album choice damn! I grew up with the Eagles so this is a comfort album at least, a lot of songs I've heard before. Let's get into it. Take It Easy: Instant classic. Great opener to the album. 9/10. Witchy Woman: Reminds me of that one Seinfeld episode lmfao. Good song. 8/10. Chug All Night: Not heard this one before. Not really a fan. It's okay but I understand now why they don't play it on the radio that much. 6/10. Most of Us Are Sad: It was okay. 7/10. Nightingale: A delightfully happy song which confused me with the title. 8/10. Train Leaves Here This Morning: Slower sadder song. Pretty good, not my favorite though. 7/10. Take the Devil: Pretty mid song, 6/10. Earlybird: Bit better than the previous one, but doesn't seem popular enough to play on the radio, 7/10. Peaceful Easy Feeling: Classic, always liked this one. 9/10 Tryin': It was ok. 7/10. Total: 74/100. It's an ok album but I'm not a giant Eagles fan. It'll do.
Songs I like: Witchy Woman, Chug All Night, Nightingale and Take the devil Kind of a convoluted album, has a lot of different sounds contained within it so far. From take it easy which is a feel good song, you get witchy woman which is a psychedelic experience. you are mesmerized by this woman, along with the guitar riffs, going through this trip that keeps crescendoing until you are left with a feeling of if she was real or not. Then you’re thrust into “chug all night”. This is a great track, chugging all night with a woman thats as wild as you. Youve got your buddies, your beers, probably some shitty 70s weed, and you’re having a party in the middle of the desert with your RV. This track paints a picture of the live these guys live, which i enjoy. Most of us is decent to me, but it is a nice change of pace. The lyrics are great but the guitar I found to be kind of forgettable and felt like they could have done better. Nightingale is a great track with amazing instrumentals. The lyrics make me feel some type of way especially to my woman. Overall was one of my favorites. Train leaves this morning is forgettable to me. Lyrics didnt stay with me, neither did the overall composition of the track. Mid. Take the Devil on the other hand is amazing. Seems like a gospel song but still they killed it with the guitar. And the drums on this are phenomenal. Almost made me feel like I was in a spiritual battle with the devil himself. Earlybird I hated at first, the beginning sucks but the rest of the song is pretty decent, not offensive but not great. Peaceful Easy Feeling is a song about heartbreak and wondering if you could ever find that one again. But then you take that risk, and finally find a person that you can share your love with, even when theres that feeling that it wont work out, you decide fuck it and try. Trying is a great closer, basically gets you pumped and tells you to get off your ass. Love the riffs solos and the verses. A pretty basic song all in all, but i like the message and its catchy. Overall this is a big ass hippie album, but its not necessarily a bad thing. I love the psychedelia influences and the songs the shine are the ones that really paint a picture. Its consistent, its fun, but man the slow parts are SLOWWWW.
Filled with rock-country classics. The opening track has great danceability, a nice winding rhythm, intelligent lyrics, and a pleasant sounding banjo to boot. Other noteworthy tracks include “Peaceful Easy Feeling” with its mellow folk country feels and “Most of Us Are Sad” which is one of the most underrated Eagles songs. Favorites: Most of Us Are Sad, Take it Easy, Peaceful Easy Feeling, Chug All Night Least Favorites: Trains Leaves Here This Morning
🧺
Always good!
Un bon album. Pas le meilleur de eagles. 4
Seem to be the enemy of alternative music lovers, with e.g. Fleetwood Mac. I am lover of alternative music but also love the Eagles. Their voices just fit so good together, like CSNY or Beach Boys. Best one is Desperado and the long Run also brilliant. Desperado The Long Run and One of These Nights I all prefer to this one, but a 4*. .
Not my favorite type of music, but I have to recognize how catchy the songs are and how big several of the songs became.
Classic rock
Very good
Hadn't listened to this whole thing before.
I love these guys- grew up listening to their songs so why shouldn't I like this album? I can't understand the bias against them. Sure there's a couple of fillers but the overall vibe conjures hot Californian nights, sat in an open top car and drinking ice-cold beer by the beach. This is feel-good relaxing music.
Pomalo - definicija classic rock albuma 1. 5 2. 3 3. 4 4. 3 5. 3 6. 3 7. 5 8. 3 9. 4 10. 5 3,8
Tämähän oli oikein miellyttävä elämys! Eagles on jäänyt itselle aika vähäiselle soitolle, enkä oo itseasiassa tainnut tätä ennen yhtään kokonaista levyä kuunnella. Yks kokoelma on hyllyssä jolla ex-kämppis maksoi osan vuokrastaan 4/5
Very fine
day 23. the older I get and the more chaotic the world around me gets, the more I appreciate the Eagles. I’ve never listened to this album in its entirety and only knew Take it Easy and Peaceful Easy Feeling. Both great tunes. I just really enjoy the easygoing, folksy rock vibe, it’s relaxing to me, albeit a bit generic. the misses for me were Chug All Night and Most of Us Are Sad, but I liked the rest of the songs. New faves - Nightingale, Take the Devil, Train Leaves Here This Morning 3.5/5 rounded up to 4
This album screams "get some mates, grab some beers and sit in the garden to talk shit all night."
Some really good tunes on this one. Makes me want to go to Winslow.
Three solid home run tracks, and Tryin' is pretty strong too. Though i have no idea why "Chug All Night" was thought to be a good idea here, the rest of passable. Interesting to get a taste of where the Eagles started.
It's hard to beleive that this album is over 50 years old - it's still a great album. The opening track "Take It Easy" is timeless.
Pretty damn good.
Pretty solid Rock album. Witchy Woman, Most of Us are Sad, and Take the Devil would be my favorites. 7.5/10
I had only hear the hits on this album, so interesting to give it a listen. Mostly very country-rock-typical-what-you-expect-from-the-Eagles, pleasant but a bit banal after a while. A couple of nice surprises though, in Chug All Night and Take the Devil, which had some nice grit. Would love to hear Joe Walsh cover those.
Very relaxing music but also a lovely, concise length. I like their voices! One to revisit. 8/10 Heard before: ‘Take it Easy’
I’ve always been an Eagles greatest hits 1 or 2 kind of fan. I never explored their album catalogue. I wasn’t familiar with most of this album. Nightingale and Tryin’ grabbed my attention. Nightingale feels upbeat. I like that little bit of overdriven distortion in the guitar for Tryin’ as well as the solos. From two listens, I’m not a fan of Most Of Us Are Sad. It is a depressing sounding song. Maybe it will get better as I listen more. I went from disliking Earlybird the first time to appreciating it the second time. I definitely hear the bird calls. It’s the banjo that threw me off. I was not expecting bluegrass rock from the Eagles. The song is OK on its own, but it doesn’t fit the rest of the album well. I tend to forget how much I love Peaceful Easy Feeling. Part of it is that it fits well with my limited vocal range. The laid back vibe always puts me in a good mood. With the greatest hits classics and a couple new songs to me that I like a lot, I’ll be venturing into Eagles album territory.
I have a "Best of" album of the Eagles in the car. Contains fewer songs from this album than I expected - Take It Easy and Witchy Woman are classics, and I really liked Peaceful Easy Feeling. Hotel California is a 6 star album, so looking forward to that coming on and providing a full "analysis" of each song.
nice
That was some of the most chill and relaxing rock I've ever heard. That's some feel good music. Makes me wanna be at the beach or something. Great harmonies.
this a 9 out of 10, some real bangers on here. Nostalgic to my childhood consumption of classic rock.
A classic album! Sometimes I get a little down on the Eagles because they can feel a little commercial and overplayed, but they really did have a great sound with tight vocal harmonies.
What an album. Peaceful easy feeling and take it easy are personal highlights. Eagles know how to write a song with ‘easy’ in the title.
Liked it, rock but also country ish
Classic easy listening. Mostly radio hits. Take it easy, easy feeling.....then CHUG ALL NIGHT.
Eagles at their best (aside from Hotel California album), it just doesn't get much better than this for timeless kick back, relax and enjoy music. I've always loved their arrangements mixing acoustic and electric guitar, they make it all seem so effortless, yet a lot of the chord arrangements are quite complex.
A long-time favourite band of mine, grew up listening to Eagles entire catalogue. This has some early classics which I love including Witchy Woman, Peaceful Easy Feeling, Take It Easy and Trying. Not their best album in my opinion but I still enjoy it (apart from that bird!)
Eagles before the bloated stadium rock era. I enjoyed this more than i thought i would. Some really good countrified rock
Nice mellow rock. A few songs stood out for brilliant lyrics, poetic but also somehow solemn.
Yeah it’s a solid debut album, I’m not really massively into the eagles but they’re good 4/5
Really great debut album from one of the best rock bands of all time. Not really a bad song on the album but a couple songs are just kinda meh. My favorite songs are "Peaceful Easy Feeling", "Take It Easy", "Witchy Woman", "Nightingale" and "Tryin'". The rest is solid, and some of it sounds a little derivative but those tracks are still good. 8/10
Tell me the eagles make basic and generic music all you want, they know how to make some cool soothing music. Yeah they didn’t reinvent music as we know it. I don’t care. It sounds good. The dorks can keep worrying about the history of music; I’m gonna listen to the eagles, have a beer, and enjoy life. Heard before: Take it easy, peaceful easy feeling, witchy woman 👍🏼: aforementioned 3 + train leaves
front and back loaded the middle doesn't have good songs 4
This was great. The hits are some of their best, and the album tracks go nicely with them and keep it moving.
Surprisingly good. Enjoyed it
A solid 1st release from the Eagles
Pretty amazing for a debut album. 3 obvious all-time classics, amazing playing, stupid great vocal harmonies. -1/2 star for Chug All Night and -1/2 star for the stupid bird noises.
I’m very biased on this album, but this is one of if not my favorite Eagles albums and I have no mediocre jokes to make about this one. I mean is there anything better than a little chugging and little hugging? 4.5 stars
Great album and can see how this helped propel the Eagles into being the legends they became. This just encapsulated the “Eagles” sound. Nightingale was great along with Take it Easy and Peaceful Easy Feeling. Chug All Night held the album back from being a potential 5. 4.7/5.0
In 2016, I developed a crush on a gorgeous girl on the dorm floor above me who was a huge Eagles fan (despite not knowing who Don Henley was). Today, she is married, and I am writing a review of the Eagles debut album while procrastinating law school work. Regarding the actual music, this is a great look behind the curtain at who the Eagles were starting out. I unabashedly will say I would listen to this album over Hotel California any day, despite it being objectively weaker music. This is early Eagles, and this is pure country rock, heavily influenced by lead guitarist Bernie Leadon, formerly of the Flying Burrito Brothers (check em out, please). If Hotel California is the Eagles on cocaine and stardom, their debut album is the Eagles on peyote and a cheap bologna sandwich trying to make it big when they aren't Linda Ronstadt's backing band. The banjo on Take It Easy is what elevates it from catchy tune to country rock classic, the harmonies and guitar solo on Peaceful Easy Feeling (maybe a top 3 Eagles tune?) are perfect. But this album pulls its weight with Nightingale, a rocker that wouldn't even be so outta place on something like Hotel California, and Train Leaves Here This Morning, a great laid-back Leadon track. No, he wasn't as good a guitarist (or drunk) as Joe Walsh, but he played a far more important role as the Eagles first guitar hero before Don Felder and Walsh join the Frey later in the decade. Now, can we talk about the war crime that is Chug All Night into Most of Us Are Sad? Two terrible songs that when sequenced together become even worse. Tryin' and Earlybird were ok, but please respect this album the aforementioned deep cuts I defended in the previous paragraph. This is a light 4, not nearly on par with Led Zeppelin II. P.S. Shoutout Randy Meisner, Scottsbluff Bearcat.
Hand up, first time listening to this album outside of Take It Easy and Peaceful Easy Feeling. Some misses but some monster hits. I love the contrast on back to back songs like Peaceful Easy Feeling and Tryin’.
Solid classic rock option
The early countrified Eagles aren't really my thing, though I know many feel the opposite. But as such, this album isn't a favorite of mine, though even here, the Eagles show themselves as more than capable of writing a decent pop song here. Hearing Randy Meisner and Bernie Leadon each provide lead vocals on songs here is a bit jarring. But also I just watched Marcel the Shell with Shoes On this past weekend, in which Marcel sings "Peaceful Easy Feeling", and that alone bumps this to a 4.
I didn’t realize that so many of the Eagles hits that I like are from the debut. Of course take it easy, witchy woman, and peaceful easy feeling are classic, but I also really enjoyed chug all night and train leaves here in the morning. Super solid album.
Ultimate Dad rock. Some absolute classics interspersed with a few songs I didn't care for at all.
Good taste of the oldies. Gave a solid look at the beginnings of classic rock.
it really rocks!
I mean, this is the one, right? This is the Eagles album that made them the favorite band of old white dudes everywhere. It's their first and probably their best. "Take It Easy", "Witchy Woman", and "Peaceful Easy Feeling" are hard to argue with. Add to that great sleeper tracks like "Take the Devil" and "Most of Us Are Sad" and you've got a pretty good album. I mean, I'm still not a fan, mind you. As always, Eagles are annoyingly soft rock and every song is a poorly-veiled adolescent sexual innuendo... but the guitar licks are good and there's an energy here that's missing from their later albums so that's worth an extra star.
Pretty good album! I think it fell a little bit short of some of the other 70s rock albums I've had so far, and considering its titular track, I think I'm probably going to enjoy Hotel California some more if/when that comes around. Some really good songs and a few that I didn't much care for. But yeah, still a pretty good one for scratching my weird Dad Rock itch. Favourite: Witchy Woman
Very likable, like a familiar neighbor who always helps out.
One of those debut albums where you’re like how can this be the debut album
classic
This was good. Very easy listening.
Pretty decent album
Good, but a bit disappointing outside of the obvious hits.
Classic
What a great chill, easy listening album. An Eagles classic. Solid 4! 1. Witchy Woman 2. Take It Easy 3. Peaceful Easy Feeling 4. Take the Devil
I might like this more through sheer familiarity. Take it Easy is such a classic. Unfortunately, the rest wasn't really my vibe. Still not a bad listen.
Some classics in here. Listen again
Great debut album!
Rock, lidt country/folk vibes, let lyt
An absolute classic for a midwesterner like myself whose parents played Eagles on loop. I usually don't like the twangier country-rock bands but Eagles do it right.
Nostalgia for me

I think the opening track summarizes the entire album with Take it Easy. Such a carefree ideology may make one think that the songs lack a seriousness or respect for the art. An understandable concern, but Eagles do an incredible job of creating one of the most easy listening albums of all time while also having the songs be listenable. Even the harder rocking songs had a breezy, relaxed aspect to them that was crafted to perfection. There were some pitfalls, though, as some later tracks were just sort of forgettable if it had not been for the couple classic songs that hold this album together. A great free feeling to this album, but not all songs are worth listening to more than a few times. 4/5
I wouldn't have said I was an Eagles fan but there I was singing along in the car
Fine debut a few great songs.
Beginning of 70s album country pop rock still influences today. Still a couple of forgettable tracks tho
Great first record! Not their best but was excited that this one came across.
CLASSIC
Good album. Enjoyed it!
This is the first time so far that I've gotten a second record from a band I've already listened to in this exercise. The first record by the Eagles that I got was the classic Hotel California. This record is their self titled debut. It has three well known and fantastic singles on it: Take It Easy, Witchy Woman, and Peaceful Easy Feeling. You can tell that this is an early album in the bands career simply because they were still experimenting, trying to find their sound (country rock/dad rock). There are some lesser known songs on here that are fantastic. Some songs are fairly rockin' compared to other songs in the Eagles catalog. The harmonies that Don Henley, Glenn Frey, Randy Meisner, and Bernie Leadon can reach is phenomenal, and creates that signature sound that is so recognizably the Eagles. This was another great listen, so much so that I listened to it twice. Favourite songs: Take It Easy, Witchy Woman, Peaceful Easy Feeling, Nightingale, Chug All Night, Tryin' Least favourite songs: if forced to choose, Most Of Us Are Sad. It just didn't move me like the other songs did, but is still a great tune. 4/5
Nice band and good music. I like very much "Take it easy".
Nice easy rock. Fav tracks: Witchy Woman, Nightingale, Tryin'
Come on guys, grow up and get your own opinions rather than just quoting cult films. Two great singles and decent filler tracks, a solid debut album. The dude should not be a role model for you…
Solid album, I love the calm vibes it gives.
True American heritage. Musical artisans through and through. Sweet country tunes, rock and blues rock in a careful balance. Not full five stars because cheesiness is always around the corner.
It was nice. Love the sound of the acoustic guitars. So pleasant to listen to.
Solid album
Gut zum arbeiten
4 stars. Good, early Eagles album
This is a good debut album. Sounds great. Good songs, lyrics decent, vocals great. Variety of soft and harder rocking tunes.
I love the Eagles, so it's hard for me to not give this a 5. For me, they are the epitome of easygoing, country rock, and even within that genre, this album demonstrates a selection of diverse sounds and strong themes. Yet, if I wanna stick to my rating guns, I have to accept that the "countryness" is maybe harped on a bit too much (in sound and lyrics), and a couple of the tracks might be a slog for some (like "Most of Us Are Sad" or "Take the Devil").
Due to my deadhead hot hippie mom, and my favorite high school math teacher, I already had a love / appreciation for the eagles, including some of this album. Favorites are: take it easy, witchy woman, train leaves here this morning, peaceful easy feeling, and tryin’. Nightingale/ Early bird both gave me headaches.
Unlike The Dude, I kind of love the Eagles - This is a pretty great album! Great flow and theme, and pretty much every song stands up on its own - more than a couple of top 10s in there too. 4/5
A classic. My parents love the Eagles, so this just felt nostalgic.
I've been to Winslow, AZ. There are only a handful of corners there. I wonder which corner he was standing at. For the real review, I think this album is awesome. I'm surprised, but it feels very southwest. I'm a big fan of western/southwestern culture, so this was a welcome surprise! The entire album is full of 70s bangers. Some songs don't hit, but it's still a good album Best Songs: Take It Easy, Witchy Woman, Train Leaves Here This Morning, Peaceful Easy Feeling Worst Songs: Chug All Night, Take the Devil
Take It Easy - 10/10 Witchy Woman - 9/10 Chug All Night - 7/10 Most of Us are Sad - 7/10 Nightingale - 8/10 Train Leaves Here This Morning - 6/10 Take the Devil - 7/10 Earlybird - 10/10 Peaceful Easy Feeling - 7/10 Tryin' - 10/10
Yeah. Eagle by eagles for eagles. We get it. But that album was good.
The Self titled Eagles album was a great listen. Kinda what I need to listen to early in the morning to mellow out the rest of my day. Standouts include Take it Easy, Witchy Woman, and Early Bird
A solid first effort for The Eagles and their trademark Californian Rock. The obvious standout is Take It Easy, and the rest of the songs are nice as well. However, it seems that that Eagles spark that dominated much of their later material is still missing here. That doesn't mean the album can't be enjoyed. It's just not their strongest collecton of material. 3.5/5
I wish I hated the eagles so I could say “I fuckin hate the eagles, man”. Outside of their popular songs they’re pretty meh. The main problem is that their popular songs are so classic. 8/10
High quality songs. Not 100% for me, but was a good listen.
Watered down pop country rock created by two of the biggest assholes in the music industry, Don Henley and Glen Fry, but sadly I really love it. I do prefer this version of the Eagles to that of later Eagles after Joe Walsh joined, even though I love Joe Walsh. I'm going to rate this high but honestly I'm not sure if it should be on the list.
I know that the Eagles are a very divisive band. There is a massive amount of hate, some that I understand, a lot that I just think is "cool" to have (read the reviews on this site, most of them reference "The Dude." Try to have your own opinion on something. And at the same time, while it's cool to hate them, they have one of the best selling albums of all times with their Greatest Hits album, The three singles on this album are all amazing. The rest of it is just okay. A little torn as to what to rate this album because I would listen to Take it Easy, Witchy Woman, and Peaceful Easy Feeling at any time. The rest of the songs are nothing to write home about, but I also wouldn't turn them off if they were on, they're just sort of forgettable. While if I was going to listen to The Eagles again, I would probably just put on their Greatest Hits album, this one still was a better overall album than I expected,
This is The Eagles first album, after being the touring band for Linda Ronstadt (Ah, now I get the Frank Zappa reference to Linda Ronstadt having an opening in her band during Steve Vai's tryout for him). It was produced by Glyn Johns who pushed for them to become a more country band with great harmonies. Glenn Frey and Don Henley wanted a more rock sound. The end result is this album put in the "Country Rock" category. Some critics had a hard time with the country part given the band members' background lacking in that area. Anyway, I hear elements of country with ballads and some of the instrumentation including banjos. I also hear the rock part with some pretty straight-forward rock songs. What they did establish was their excellent vocal harmonization which would carry throughout their career. The lead singers are actually split among all four orginal members: Glenn Fry, Don Henley, Randy Meisner and Bernie Leadon. That would obviously change to some extent in the future. I actually enjoyed listening to this album especially some of their lesser known songs. There are three US radio rock staples on this album. "Take It Easy" and "Peaceful Easy Feeling" define West Coast Country Rock. My favorite of the popular three is "Witchy Women." Sung by Henley it definitely fits more into the rock category and still sounds unique and fresh to me. As I previously mentioned, I dug a few of the more deeper cuts. "Take the Devil" is the most rockin' song on the album. Sung by Randy Meisner, it has a Crosby, Stills and Nash feel to it and ends with a great guitar riff/solo. "Earlybird" has more of that country feel with a banjo and Bernie Leadon as lead singer. Great harmonization also. Even if the Eagles didn't become one of the biggest bands of the 70's, the album still showcases a band with a lot talent and very good songs. Their popularity and somewhat negative criticism because of that and this musical style did not distract me from enjoying this album.
Surprisingly solid album. Mega hits and hidden gems.
I've never been a big fan of the Eagles - a bit too "soft rock/easy listening" for me. But I can't deny the talent, even on their very first album. I like some of the sadder songs, especially the Gene Clark co-written Train Leaves Here This Morning. 4 stars.
Very good
Some of their big hits on this one.
Is it a classic? Sure. Is it also kind of boring? Definitely.
Fun banjo old americana - every song felt like a single worth singing along to
Was good
The Eagles debut album opens with the iconic ‘Take it East’ and features other well known tracks that showcase the band’s unique laid back country rock sound infused with Laurel Canyon contemplation. Unfortunately, the album suffers because that sound is not fully developed throughout and sees the Eagles writing a lot of filler material that doesn’t really sound like them.
Take it easy, witchy woman, eaceful easy feeling. Good album.
Milky!
The Eagles are probably the band that most people think of when they hear "dad rock" but man.. I kinda really like this album. I was expecting to loathe this since I don't particularly care for country music but I even enjoyed the song called "Earlybird" which is the most stereotypical farm music I've ever heard in my life. It's corny (like.. actual corn, yeehaw), easy to hate on, and not the most musically impressive thing ever made, but I like it.
The eagles debut album has a lot of classics on it including the first two, Take It Easy and Witchy Woman but Peaceful Easy Feeling is also on here too. All to say, this is a really calm album. Some of the songs are a little more upbeat but feeling peaceful and easy seems like something different from the rock of the day. Great start to a hopefully great week.
"Running down the road tryna loosen my load" ??? Eagles be eagling, man. This is our second from them, and just like Hotel California, it's got some classic hits. They're a band that's made easy to hate by their ubiquity, but they're also easy to love because the music goes down smooth. Two tracks on here with "easy" in the title in case it wasn't clear, and they're easily my two favorites. Rock on, birds. Favorite tracks: Take It Easy, Peaceful Easy Feeling, Witchy Woman, Nightingale. Album art: One that I never paid much attention to, as it's mostly just a sky. But closer inspection reveals what seems to be a silhouette of a cactus "skyline" in front of a desert sunset. Digging the vibe. 4/5
Classic early Eagles which would now be considered country.
Production is amazing. Close harmonies lush; great pickin'. Take it Easy is a classic of course. Witchy, Chug and Peaceful and Tryin' are decent tunes too. There's a few fillers but mostly right up my street.
3.5 or 4
Nekoliko pisama je popravilo sveukupni dojam albuma pa evo 3.5 ocjena Favoriti: Witchy woman, Nightingale, Take the Devil
Meni je bilo baš “easy going”. Volin Eaglese
Thoroughly enjoyable - mix of rock n roll and country rock. Love those "high flyin' harmonies", sweeter than Beach Boys and Everly Brothers. Looking forward to reviewing Hotel California!
Pretty okay. Standard Eagles. Didn't stand out for me at all.
Usually not that invested in the Eagles, but it's a pretty good album. Has a real classic rock sound to it. Whilst good however, it's not something that I'd consider very memorable, hence 4 stars
I had a rough night and I hate the fucking Eagles, nah it’s good lol
Elaine Benes would approve. Shhhhh this is my song. Some fantastic production on this one.
A really solid debut by one of the biggest bands of the 1970's. This album reminded me a lot of how I felt listening to CCR's Green River: the band themselves are great with the specific record featuring some monster hits that are fantastic, but it does have some filler songs that keep it from being great. I definitely cut Eagles more slack in this circumstance as this was their first ever album and features more intricate instrumentals/harmonies that are very impressive for a debut record. You can tell that they were already shaping into the band they would come known to be, and while I have no doubt that they improved as the years went by, this was a great introduction to the world and indicative of the potential they had. I would throw this one on again, but I have a feeling that there will be an Eagles album in the future that I will really love. 3.5/5. NOTE: I did add Take It Easy to my Starred list after visiting this album. I always forget how much I enjoy that song, and it was fun hearing the high quality details of the banjo and guitars after only really hearing in on FM radio.
Best songs: Take it easy Witchy woman Peaceful easy feeling
Pretty much a classic, unpolished but with hints of what is yet to come from one of the most popular bands of the 20th century
What, my Eagles is the best! Can never resist Don Henley's voice... well, they do have some relatively boring songs and were still yong in this album but no harm done.
My interest in the Eagles waxes and wanes, I rarely seek the music out, but this is a pretty iconic offering in its genre.
Classic country Rock, the heirs to Gram Parsons really got going here. "Take It Easy" and "Peaceful Easy Feeling" both classics. still rocking after all these years. Saw them at Wembley Stadium a couple of years ago. Cracking gig all round!
Peaceful easy feeling always makes me feel good an want to sing, even if my voice sucks...Eagles are always a welcome addition on the playlist
Good first effort from these guys. They really defined the soft rock, country folk vibe of the 70s. The song “Take it Easy” was an early favorite back in early Jr HS years. 3.5 and rounding up for nostalgia.
Doesn't sound revolutionary, but probably because they were so influential. Beautiful folky rock. Solid easy-listening 4.
Eagles by The Eagles (1972) This is the album that made country rock respectable. The three hits from this record, “Take It Easy”, Witchy Woman”, and “Peaceful Easy Feeing”, were hits for a very good reason: they expressed manful first-person emotions with a fine vocal harmonic blend and top notch guitar & banjo playing that resonates in the listener’s soul. No gimmicks, no recording artifices, no glam—just pure, unadulterated songs, changing both rock music and country music for the better. With smooth melodies combining A- voices into an A+ mix, The Eagles entered the rock scene turning all ears in their direction. And after nearly fifty years, it still sounds fresh. With “Nightingale”, for instance, The Eagles take a song that could’ve been very bad, and make it very good, with creative arrangement and flashes of (well tuned!) guitar and vocal brilliance—tight, disciplined, sober. These four guys were born for studio recording. One key to their success was that all four instrumentalists were also employed in vocal performance. They were all invested in making both wings of the sound soar. The moniker “Eagles” was symbolically apt. And they have a salient talent for making slow tunes interesting (“Most of Us Are Sad”, “Train Leaves Here This Morning”, and “Take the Devil”). These well performed but less popular tracks justify pulling this album out and listening straight through every once in awhile. I’d pay good money to watch a young person listen on headphones to “Peaceful Easy Feeling” for the first time ever. I’d be watching a soul expand before my very eyes. I may try it out on my grandkids this Christmas. 4/5
Good music
Country rock
7/10
4/5
Great debut. Take it Easy is an awesome song to lead off an album. Love the country rock sound, but I don't think the full album is a strong as some of their later efforts. 4/5
never really been an eagles fan but have to say I liked this album. nightingale is a song I had not heard before that I really liked.
solid sound, the Eagles are legends!
I enjoyed this album much more than expected. Quite a lot of strong tracks that I didn't know and really enjoyed. This is definitely an album I'd listen to again.
Almost gave this five stars, but there were a few b-side duds I didn't care for.
Fine country rock album, a bit uneven perhaps, swings back from 5 star to 3 star and back again. Quite a while since I heard it for the last time but could certainly enjoy it.
Here's how it all started... Several classic tunes in Take it Easy, Witchy Woman and Peaceful Easy Feeling. And of course Chug All Night always hits the spot...
I can't hear Witchy Woman without thinking of Seinfeld. Anyway, this was good. Best track: Take It Easy
I love the Eagles, but they are really a singles band and not so much album oriented. I also think “On the Border” is a better album than this one, but am giving it a four based on the strength of the three singles that were generated from this album.
3 hits, must be good!
Finally! An album that is worthy of this list!
Per me è 5.
lots of classics on this one
Favourite songs- Witchy Woman, Chug All Night, Take it Easy
Some classic songs with some rockier numbers mixed in.
really good, enjoyed most of the songs except the one with birds chirping, but it was a good experience, had my head bopping the whole time.
Good guitar album with chill and positive music.
Some strong tracks on here... and some weak ones. The Eagles are why greatest hit albums were invented. Overall a very strong album.
“Most of Us Are Sad” es todo un mood.
Aangenaam album. Rustige muziek voor rustige momentjes
Solid with some classic tracks. But not the Eagles best.
Son los Eagles
Nice home chills
Good listening, my kind of music, added to library
I actually like this one.Espicially take it easy and witchy woman.
Love the eagles. All of their albums has a few great deep cuts to go along with the hits. This one has nightingale, train leaves here this morning. The other ballads are nice but little forgettable.
01/27 - Yesterday I worked on a few coordination items as well as set up another print for the manufacturing building. I spent the morning focusing on sizing the Hilti sheet metal product for the northeast penetration at the penthouse. During this time I listened through the album. Later in the day I was pulling details into the Train B model and running the new print. During this time I listened to more interesting songs such as Witchy Women, Tryin, and Take It Easy. Super easy album to listen to and kept me motivated through the day.
Not Hotel California album
Take It Easy is the most popular song on this album but Peaceful Easy Feeling is notable too. Not a bad album, just easy going, typical of Eagles. 8/10.
*3.9 Nice and chill
Well put together, classics
It’s hard to beat the Eagles. There were a few moments that were a bit bland for me, but overall really amazing stuff Favorite tracks: “Take It Easy,” “Witchy Woman,” and “Take The Devil”
Soft rock can be just as fun as hard rock.
A good album, but not my favorite Eagles album.
Klassiker.
Very good debut from The Eagles. I hadn’t heard all of the songs except the first 2. Better than I expected and more of a country sound.
Great album my mom used to listen to this one when I was growing up. Also I just really like folk rock
Take it easy and Tryin' went to my personal playlist 10/10
cool
Incredible start of this album with Take It Easy and Witchy Woman! A really solid album all the way through.
good album the eagles are good this is fresh and calm
I always hate when an album peaks at the first song. This one did but that's not to say there aren't a lot of great track. Cool instrumental parts. Simple guitar for some of them. But definitely a solid debut album.
Listened to this before so no surprises. Eagles are a good relaxing band. Almost country but not.
Good easy listen, enjoyed it
Classic
Pretty good solid album. I had heard a few songs before but it was nice to hear the whole thing.
Super chill to work to
7
2.9 ohhh Witch-a women
Solide!
I thought this was going to be a five out of five but then there was only three good songs.
I liked this one better than the last one we listened to
Take it easy listening.
I didn't used to believe in guilty pleasures but then this project made me listen to a couple of Eagles albums.
