Reviews (page 6 of 13)

Moody and atmospheric. Imagine you’re Lindsey Buckingham listening to your ex girlfriend complain about how much of an asshole you are in front of your face.

Decent

Not exactly what you envision when you hear “coke-fueled rock and roll,” but here we are. A great album from what is probably the world’s most dysfunctional, and yet somehow incredibly successful band. I mean, this band spun gold out of their shitty lives. And though this album belies the problems roiling underneath the sound, you can’t help but think of their story anytime you listen to any of their albums. The standouts here are standouts for a reason, but the whole album is a delight.

Some good moments, but pales in comparison to previous two FM albums.

not their best

a few duds, but a few standouts too ("tusk", "storms", "beautiful child", "sisters of the moon"). appreciate that they really wanted to not make rumours all over again, though i think this is just a bit less successful.

what makes you think you’re the one

Erg goed Mac album maar niet hun beste

Mooi album, niet hun beste werk

Good album, hard to follow Rumors. It really contained only a couple of songs that were relevant.

Listened to this while playing Paperback Adventures. I lost. I had not listened to this album before. I love the journey that it took me on. I heard their sound reflected in more contemporary artists I enjoy. Part reminded of Animals Collective vocals. One song brought to mind Neko Case...another Fleet Foxes. The album did meander a bit here and there, but overall I hugely enjoyed it.

Good stuff, maybe a bit long and not as good as rumours. Tusk, the song. Is a banger

Hater's gonna hate, but it's impossible not to like album. Defeated and overcome with nostalgia. Nice work McMac'ers.

First time to listen to Fleetwood Mac. I loved the smooth and chill vibe of this album!

Classic case of the post-success coke-fuelled follow-up album. Bloated, but brilliant at times.

Not their best album, but still good

I listened to Kyky’s track listing instead.

Genuinely really pleasantly surprised. A more moody and dank collection than rumours brought to you by the same powerhouse voices.

This album has a lot more to it than I thought it would as a follow-up to Rumours. Definitely a much more experimental and sparser sounding album stretched over a way too long 79 minutes. Enjoyed this way more than I was expecting.

While I am not a huge Fleetwood Mac fan, this album has so many good sounds. I like the different directions they take this album.

Next 5 songs played by my Spotify Algorithm: The Mama's and the Papa's - Go Where You Wanna Go Hall & Oates - Rich Girl Heart - Dreamboat Annie Jimi Hendrix - One Rainy Wish Tom Petty - A Face In the Crowd

Really enjoyed this. I didn't recognise a lot of them as someone who would have listened to their greatest hits a lot but instantly liked the vast majority of the songs. Really nice variation of sounds and melodies.

Great stuff in small chunks-too much all at once!

Not my favorite fleetwoodmac album

Second track sacked. I loved the rest of it. It's not as good as Rumours, but it is more interesting Title track and I know I'm not wrong are the standouts High 4/5

Fantastic. Classic FM record

some real gems and I love how almost every one has a different favorite on this expansive, if disjointed, album. I tended to prefer the buckingham songs (I’m realizing my affinity for post punk) but some beautiful songs from c. mcvie and stevie nicks too. I enjoyed so much of the album but did feel like I also listened to a lot of filler.

So long and so weird! Keeps you on your toes, and you don't know what to expect: - Lovesong - Lovesong - SYNTH VIOLENCE - A gentle ballad What could be your mom's favourite is so much more

Delicious, Moody

I like Fleetwood Mac a lot and this is a very good album. I remember when it was released and hearing some of their fans grumble a bit about the title track, which I liked a lot back then and really love now, and looking back I realize how much those fans were probably bummed this album was very different from "Rumours". I get it, but I'm really glad Fleetwood Mac kept evolving and experimenting.

There were some songs I liked on this album. It was a little slow moving to listen all the way through. The songs were slow tempo with basic beats. I think that as I continue to listen, the songs may grow on me.

Titelnummeret bliver brugt MEGET godt i The Americans piloten.

Fleetwood Mac is great! Not as great as Rumors, but still great

Great album!

Tykkäsin! Ei Rumours, mutta paljon hyvää.

Hyvä levy, mut ei ihan Rumoursin viiden tähden kermaa.

Still prefer Rumours

A really good listen, although probably 3 or 4 songs too long. There's some of the classic Fleetwood Mac intertwined with the more experimental pieces, and it does work together as a whole package. I'd definitely put this on again. A low to mid 4 for me.

I really enjoyed this record. Fantastic production and some great songs. Favourite tracks: The Ledge, That's All for Everyone, Not That Funny, Tusk.

could tell that it wasn't all recorded together. three different people could have put out three albums. no real flow between them. still some good songs i'd never heard before. lots about love and its beginnings.

Good music, some good folk songs. Enjoyed the tempo and the free spirit of the songs with some meaningful ones in there

Chill and shaggy to listen to. A few catchy songs, but not amazing like Rumours.

I never care for McVie's lead vocals, every song she leads on I can't get into. Lindsey Buckingham continues his power lyrics and I enjoy them. This is by far my favorite album early on. I have always loved Rumours, so it's time I finally listened to Tusk. It doesn't hold that same high standard, but it is an enjoyable album. High 3/Low 4

While not Fleetwood Mac's best (that of course goes to Rumours), there's a lot to love on Tusk. I couldn't get quite as in to this album as I have with others, but it's certainly worth repeat listens.

It was always going to be tough to follow up Rumours Tusk does a pretty great job, with some absolutely gorgeous intimate tracks like Storms as well as some noisier and more experimental cuts. The lowest points are songs like Think About Me where it just sounds like Rumours Lite as well as the overall inconsistency that always comes with double albums like this, while the clear high point is the pounding title track (that I wish was a couple of minutes longer tbh)

Tusk is a great album, but it suffered from being the follow up to Rumors, and I think gets overlooked. Does have one of my favorite Stevie songs on here, Sara.

Really enjoyed this one. “That’s all for everyone” and “tusk” stood out as my favorites in an overall great album. A couple of clunkers in the middle of this pretty long album keep it from scoring a 5.

Quiet and nice. Not a best of

Standouts: Sara, Storms, Sisters of the Moon, Tusk

Can’t go wrong with Fleetwood Mac. This is my third consecutive 4 star rating, I’m gonna start being a little more critical.

My fave of the big lineup. Lindsey's album tracks are great. Sister Moon is the best Nicks tune IMO. Christine has some good ones as well. There are a few clunkers for sure. It's not the White Album or Exile but all four sides are worth listening

Pretty good. La segunda mitad es mejor, creo. 3 1/2

They make it look easy.

Thank you to 1,001 albums for making me play me this again after a very long time. Whenever I feel in a Fleetwood Mac mood I do the obvious and put Rumours on. I was put off this album before as it lacked the unique edge of Rumours. I also hated so many of the Lindsey Buckingham lead songs on Tusk. Listening with fresh ears today, there is so many beautiful moments on this album. Stevie Nicks is just sublime. Beautiful Child and Sisters of the Moon in particular are just stunning and dreamy. But Buckingham’s songs are mainly so deliberately quirky and self-indulgent. They spoil the whole mood of the album. He is a brilliant guitarist. Mesmerising to watch. He has written and sung some great songs, but on Tusk it seems like he was too hell bent on trying to be different. In these modern times of listening to music streamed from my iPhone the problem is easily solved. By adding 14 of the 20 tracks (a few of Buckingham’s survived the cull), I now have a stunning (shorter) version of this album ready to play when I’m feeling in a Radio 2 Sunday Morning kind of mood. Which is increasingly often these days. My personal short version of the album is worthy of 5 stars, but I’d best rate your full version so it has to lose a star for Lindsey’s attempts to swim against the tide.

Album 175 of 1001 Fleetwood Mac - Tusk Rating : 4 / 5 Favorite Track : Sara This was a better album than I had remembered. Was ready to pan it a bit, but found that it was a pretty fine listen. The hits didn't come pouring out like on Rumours, of course, but still a fine album.

Didn't like this one as much as I did Rumours. Some really odd tracks here, really distinctive drumming on many tracks. My first time hearing "The Ledge" and I just didn't get it...

Classic Fleetwood Mac

This album is WEIRD and I dig it! If Rumours is about breaking up, this album is like the awkward stage after the breakup where you still have to live together because you’re both on the lease and everything is uncomfortable and tense and sad; you can practically taste the coke on some of these songs.

Pretty solid

Not as good as Rumours, but still fine

Maggot Brain: awesome epic loved it, added it CYGTT: fine just fine Hit it quit it: getting better but just not a fav And your folks…: not memorable at all Super Stupid : fun, added Back in our minds : ugh Wars of Armageddon : crying babies?? Overall: 3 Tusk by Fleetwood Mac

Honestly really good. Less stand out tracks than “Rumours” but more consistent in quality. Towards the end it veered off a bit - kind of to be expected in such a long album. But I liked it.

How could a band ever follow up Rumours? Tusk doesn't quite exceed expectations but it's still quite good. Standouts include Over And Over, The Ledge, Sara, Sisters Of The Moon, Angel, Tusk, and Never Forget.

While the predecessing album, Rumours, may have been one of the easiest 5-star ratings on this list, I'm not quite as sold on Tusk. With a massive selection of 20 titles, less might have been more, cutting down on some of the less effective tracks or possibly splitting the double album into two distinct albums, a more experimental one and a more straightforward one. In that case, the more straightforward one would be my preference. The more conventional rock structure of the Stevie Nicks songs (Sara, Sisters Of The Moon, Angel) were definitely my favorites on Tusk. On the other hand, the more sparse yet jagged Buckingham arrangements just don't do as much for me. Maybe I'll just re-listen Rumours or Stevie Nicks' solo material after this.

A great album, if not quite as incredible as Rumours.

Never listened to this full album before and I enjoyed it overall.

What an interesting band. Mick Fleetwood and John McVie are the namesakes of the band, have the only continuity across the various incarnations of the band... but essentially bring in 3 songwriters to write and (mostly) individually sing 20 songs for an album. It's a really cool departure from Rumors, a lot more experimental, and definitely not uniform... each of the 3 song writers really has their own vibe. This variety helps over the course of the long album and all the songs are approachable, with quite a few standing out (Sisters of the Moon, Angel, Sara, Storms, Tusk). Very cool.

Classic full of good.

Me gustó

Nicely melodic and well sung.

So after the success of Rumours, Fleetwood Mac resolved to make their next album sound nothing like it.

really good album, except for the length. songs that had the potential to stand out became blurred with the rest, there are some top, top tracks on here though that are basically the best i've heard from fleetwood mac, j wish it was a little shorter. Rating - 7.1 Favs - Think About Me - The Ledge - Sara

It’s not rumours but it’s still fleetwood Max so still great

I tend to like the Lindsay Buckingham songs best. My favorite is Not That Funny, I Know I’m Not Wrong and of course, Tusk. The Christine McVie stuff is mostly too mellow for me. Lovely songs - just too mellow. Exception: Brown Eyes. Of course, John McVie’s bass lines are impeccable. Having Peter Green on guitar doesn’t hurt. Stevie Nicks seems to be less of a presence on this album. They played the crap out of Sara on the radio but Angel is her standout track on this album. Buckingham and McVie dominate this album. In retrospect, I can see why they got together and toured later. It’s a departure from Rumours but in the end it can’t recapture the magic. If Rumours is a “5”, this has to be a “4”

beautiful and I love fleetwood mac. despite its length it does not drag much at all. features beautiful songwriting and performances from every member. truly part of the holy trinity of fleetwood mac albums. best tracks: tusk, sara, storms

What a band could do after its magnus opus? Some of them try to (unsuccessfully) copy themselves to release a second part, others try to rebel against their previous success. Fleetwood Mac had another plans. This album, for some reason (besides its length) reminded me of London Calling. I think of it as a journey. Some songs are great, others not so much, but all of them share an unique DNA. Good stuff

A grower that’s substantial enough to give you time to grow. The second half in particular is sublime. Loved revisiting this record of my childhood.

Good album.not as good as rumours obvs.

A rather alienating follow up to “Rumours”, heavily influenced by the post-punk popularity surrounding the period of recording. It’s experimental and almost disjointed nature IS however what makes this album stand out as a whole.

Honestly really fantastic. I've always written them off a bit as too boomer-y, mostly because of their fanbase I think but there's a ton of cool stuff on here. Really varied while still feeling cohesive.

It’s easy to see why Fleetwood Mac has had a resurgence and become popular with younger people. I had never heard this whole album before, but it’s so good.

More interesting in some ways than Rumours; a greater variety in songwriting and composition, but uneven in parts.

Although none of their mega hits appear on this album, it's still Fleetwood Mac. Beautifully written & performed, this was an enjoyable listen. Sara & Tusk are my favorites with new tracks added to my liked songs. What a band. 4 stars.

3.8 I mean they were never gonna top Rumours but this is a pretty decent stab at just experimenting and seeing what they can come up with Fave songs: Sara, Sister of the moon, That's enough for me,

How to follow Rumours, one of the greatest albums of all time? Well, put together a double album with a load of random songs and sounds including a marching band and produce something so different it's still a fantastic piece of work. An eminent music journalist in the UK said there is never a time when listening to Tusk is wrong. He's absolutely right. Some incredible songs. It's just not Rumours. But nothing is Rumours. Listen to Tusk. Take it all in.

Gave this one two listens, as the first was while driving and I couldn’t hear everything as closely as I would have liked. I was thinking three stars at the time, but a few songs grabbed my attention and made me want to give it a closer listen. So, got home and spun the vinyl (inherited from Anita’s mom) and I’m glad I did. This is a solid record with some lovely songs beyond the great “Tusk.” I anticipate more listens in the future.

Sprawling but great.

Alright I guess, certainly isn't their Rumours album though.

Some sweet and mostly short tracks on this eh. My highlights: The Ledge! Think About Me, and more.

Not their best album, but it’s still Fleetwood Mac

This is a hard album to rate. It is so uneven and disjointed. Christine McVie's composed songs are boring and forgettable (except for Think About Me, and maybe Never Make Me Cry). Stevie Nicks' composed songs are far better - Sara, Sisters of the Moon, and Beautiful Child are particularly powerful, admirable songs and Angels is funky and cool. Nicks really shows she can bring it. Lindsay Buckingham's composed songs are so eclectic - he really went for some different sounds (maybe trying to capture what all the post-punks were doing) - but I enjoyed them quite a bit. Particularly The Ledge, What Makes You Think You're the One, Not That Funny (maybe my favorite), That's Enough for Me, I Know I'm Not Wrong (although at this point I realized he's sort of repeating the same sound across tracks), Walk a Thin Line (refreshingly different than his others). Others were just strange (That's all for Everyone, really going for something Brian Wilson experimental with the xylophone) and honestly I never understood what the big deal was behind the title track (not a big fan). At the end of it all, I wonder why they didn't just release 3 solo albums. There's barely any synergy, especially of vocals, on this album yet that's part of what made Rumours so good. Sure, they don't have to do the same thing over and over, but why not different sounds but with more collaboration and vocal harmonies? Those subtleties on Beautiful Child and Walk a Thin Line are awesome. It's just an up and down ride going through the album. Honestly, the first time through I didn't think it was that good - average. But on subsequent listens I found a lot of great songs - it's just that the album is so all over the place it's hard to get a feel for it at first. I really want to ding it for the lack of cohesion, but Nicks and Buckingham still do a lot of great things; Mick Fleetwood too in the background though it was hard for me to pick up on what John McVie was doing. So I guess a 4 (or just above 3.5) but not a 5 is about right.

A very interesting album with some great songs. Probably overly long. It's not Rumours. 🤷

Great album with lots of variety between the members of Fleetwood Mac. The double album structure can be overbearing as one sitting, but it gives Lindsey, Stevie, and Christine each ample time in the spotlight. Personally, I prefer Christine's cuts on this album the most, particularly the absolutely beautiful opener Over and Over. Stevie's highlight moment is Sisters of the Moon, and while Lindsey's more upbeat songs borderline between classy and kitschy, the title track that he wrote is one of my favorites. Definitely some fat I would like to trim from this album, but I agree with the general consensus that you can get a satisfying experience from listening to this as 3 almost solo records.

billiards playing music

A bit too long. 3.5/5

Fleetwood Mac as always with some quality songs and overall very good album. The titular song was straight away one of my favourite, original composition, I have never heard anything like this before. Definitely an album that I would like to come back to in the future.

Really enjoyed this. Incredible as always

I read the wiki on this one and read, "You got that sweetness [from Nicks and McVie] and me as the complete nutcase," Buckingham observed. "That's what makes us Fleetwood Mac." .. so I was expecting some wild tunes, but this was the most docile album I've heard in a while. I really like Fleetwood Mac and Stevie Nicks' voice is amazing. I could listen to this album at just about anytime.

Pretty good but not their best.

Not my favorite Fleetwood album, but still good

The massive variety of songs and musical styles makes the tension in the band at the time crystal clear.

I love the Mac and Rumours is just an absolute classic. Tusk, not so much, but I think there's enough moments of pop beauty to outweigh the occasional lazy or silly addition. Full American marching band, anyone?

I mean, how do you follow up one of the most commercially and critically successful albums of all time, especially one predicated on the internal dysfunction of your own band? I guess you throw literally every idea you have at the wall (both stuff that sounds way out there and stuff that sounds exactly like what you've already done) and hope something sticks. As a kid, Tusk was a massively underwhelming follow up for me, and far too long, compared to Rumours. Revisiting now with a greater appreciation for the context, I think there's a lot of meat on the bone here. While the opening track is a bit of a sleeper, what follows is engaging music. It blows my mind that the only two members of the band to be consistent members of the lineup have the least influence over the sound. I wonder what Christine, Stevie and Lindsay would have gone on to do had the original front men not lost their minds to drugs (and one joined a literal cult!). Tracks I enjoyed besides the major hits like Tusk and Sara: Think About Me, What Makes You Think I'm the One, Sisters of the Moon, Never Make Me Cry

Fleetwood Mac at their messy, shambolic, argumentative, bed-hopping, coked-up Fleetwood Mackiest. Brilliant.

Enjoyable album, quite long but great to sit and listen to.

we will never forget tonight

Not my favorite album of there’s but still good

I've never given Tusk a close listen until now and... ya know what... I like this. It doesn't have the sort of hit-after-hit feel of Rumors, but for all the talk of experimental music, this was surprisingly grabby. I'm grabbed.

pretty good sound, reminded me of Rumours

Much like the Beatles, after releasing one of the most successful albums of all time, Fleetwood Mac elect to release a double album. This record is wonderfully non-cohesive and even includes some proto-punk jams. Fun record.

Some of their most beautiful songs, like fantastic title track, Sara, Not that Funny. But also some mediocre ones. Bit of a mess this album. Four stars for daring to make this experimental album and the good songs

Very good

I enjoyed this one, this was my first album since signing up. Rumours was the only Fleetwood Mac I'd heard and I probably still prefer it but this was a solid album. Easy to listen to with enough variety throughout, I'll likely come back to it again. Favourite song was Tusk. Also I was surprised that this was already Fleetwood Mac's 12th album, hadn't realised they were that old and made that much music. 4/5

Really beautiful obviously personal music. just short of being a 5

This does feel like the spiritual successor to Rumours. It feels more grown up, less angry. This one needs a few listens through in order to fully appreciate it.

Solid album, although disjointed

I've loved Fleetwood Mac since I was a kid, and I listen to Rumors and Tango in the Night regularly as an adult (TitN is incredible, and one of the best albums of the eighties in my opinion), but I've never listened to all of Tusk before. I thought Tusk was outstanding. It's very different from Rumors and TitN, but I thoroughly enjoyed listening to it. I love that it has so many varied sounds on it, and that in branches out from the Fleetwood Mac albums that I'm most familiar with. It would have been foolish for Fleetwood Mac to try and duplicate Rumors, and it's clear that wasn't their aim here, but somehow, they managed to be even more ambitious here. I love that the songs are written and sung by a wide variety of members of the band, and I think that speaks to how divided they were after making Rumors. I didn't think I could love Fleetwood Mac any more than I already did, but now this album will be in my regular rotation as well.

good instrumental and good orchestra

uuuu very good

Ahh, rumors 2. There's a lot of music on the record, with various singers and whatnot. I'd listen again

Sprawling, messy, imperfect-but what a listen. Stevie and Christine are both absolutely on fire here.

Highlight: Sisters of the Moon Pleasurable, but a bit monotonous at times. A weak 4/5

I enjoyed most of it except the chaotic Lindsey Buckingham songs

I've always enjoyed Fleetwood Mac but was never a huge fan. I used to really like the earlier, bluesy Fleetwood Mac, but always considered the more popular version of the band to be a bit too "soft rock" for me. But I can't deny their talent. It's kind of like the Beach Boys to me - I've come to appreciate them more as I get older. One thing is clear though after perusing the band's Wikipedia page - I need to find a good book about the history of this band. The stories must be legendary. Just take this one passage from Wikipedia: "While on tour in February 1971, Jeremy Spencer said he was going out to "get a magazine" but never returned. After several days of frantic searching the band discovered that Spencer had joined a religious group, the Children of God." Insane. I liked this album quite a bit. 4 stars.

No rumours but still decent

Nice to hear them experiment a little and not do Rumors part 2

Yes, I love the title track. Sure, I love Sara. Beyond that, these songs aren't familiar. For the most part, each one reminded me of a different Fleetwood Mac song that I like better. I liked it a lot but I'm disappointed that I didn't love it.

very nice and soothing, some of the songs are masterfully crafted. An album you can put at any occasion

Great album

3.5/5. Pretty good. Definitely not as good as their earlier stuff, or Rumors (can't beat that), but it's fine. I would be ok listening to this again, but I wont seek it out.

Not as great as other fleetwood albums but still solid

Sloppy and unfocused, and probably didn't need to be a double. But there are plenty of great songs and no absolute stinkers. Falls just short of getting 5 🌟

After making what might be the greatest album of all time, Fleetwood Mac followed up Rumours with a double album. This is, of course, God's way of saying he wants me to suffer or something. I'm kidding (mostly), Fleetwood Mac is still maintaining a certain level of quality that is carrying over from Rumours. Sara, the closer to side A, is particularly fantastic in it's tenderness from Stevie Nicks. Lindsay Buckingham's contributions, in contrast, are much more eclectic and eccentric. While Tusk lives in the shadow of it's much more acclaimed older brother, I find myself enjoying most, if not all, of Tusk's songs. This is not representative of Fleetwood Mac's best songwriting abilities, but listeners will not be disappointed.

Fleetwood Mac is always great. Not a bad album but not Rumours

Beautiful album from an extremely talented band. This album is nowhere close to being as good as Rumours, but still a great listen. Favorite track: Sara

Great album check out again

Sara is a good song. Good album, not as good as rumors.

I wish this had shown up on Friday when I would have had a whole weekend to listen to it. Yesterday I had very little time to listen, so I barely made it past the halfway point. So, assuming this doesn't all fall apart on the second half, here is my partial review. I can understand why this wasn't a huge hit like Rumours, though I also understand Lindsey had no intention of making Rumours 2, and I respect that. That would have been easy. This album ain't easy. The production here is amazing, though, and it made for an incredible headphone experience. I had heard Sara before, but had never heard all the little crazy shit going on in the background. This album isn't nearly as weird as its reputation. It's definitely disjointed—it almost seems like there's a Lindsey album and a "Fleetwood Mac" album—but I'm digging both albums. I love how this was considered a flop at the time but it still sold 4 million copies. The third-bestselling album of last year didn't even sell 4 million copies. Anyway, I look forward to going back into to this one and I can see this making its way into general rotation.

I didn't expect to enjoy it this much. Masterfully crafted, it's not often that an album can carry 20 tracks so well. First Listen?: Y Fav. Tracks: Sara, Storms, I Know I'm Not Wrong Rating: 4.4/5

A very chill album, was glad I was recommended this as I hadn't heard anything other than rumors and their other hit songs at this point

Tusk featuring the USC Trojan marching band is always a winner.

Listen a few, good vibe and meaningful lyrics

Love this album, although I do admit you could probably trim it down to make a really tight single disc. I do enjoy the random oddities though, and you can't go wrong with the classics on this one.

Not the best Fleetwood album but still pretty great

Very interesting production with obvious inspirations from the contemporary post-punk movement and especially Talking Heads (especially on the title track). I like it! Crazy to do this as a follow-up to Rumours, and perhaps it was necessary for Fleetwood Mac to continue to develop and not get stuck in their previous sounds. As almost always with double albums, some tracks could have been omitted, but I even a length of 60 minutes might have worked.

As the follow-up to Rumours, Fleetwood Mac (well Lindsey Buckingham) wanted to create an album that didn't sound like Rumours. And boy does this album not sound like Rumours. And for me that's a big negative. Unlike the White Album, there just isn't enough there to make me really love this album. I don't particularly enjoy Buckingham's songs on this album and that really brings it down. Plus it's really long. As great as Fleetwood Mac is, they aren't as talented as The Beatles and can't full off this long length.

This puppy definitely isn't the so carefully crafted songwriting excellence of Rumours, but it is clear it wasn't trying to be. This wanted to be bold, varied, and individual, and it achieved that. Still... I feel this one is just pretty great, while their previous is one of the GOATs. In any case I'm happy with experimentation and new directions, and this was a success that simply still has to live in it's older brother's shadow.

Amazing album

Standouts: Sara, Storms, Angel A huge range of emotions and moods. Really like the transition anc intrastate of what makes you… and storms

Sara - Stevie Nicks best - 9/10

Soft. Chill. Wechselnde Sänger (m/w). Nicht Blues mäßig

Very good!

Top album, super relaxed en kende het nog niet zo goed

I've grown to love Fleetwood Mac thanks to my wife. Rumours is probably a top 5 classic album of all time for me. This album definitely has a different and unique sound to their previous work. I am enjoying this new approach they took, very cool. Oh wow this is a double album, hope it remains consistently good the whole way. Halfway through and it's been great.

A double album by Fleetwood Mac on paper could've been a slog to sit through, but two factors of this album stopped that from happening. For one, Lindsey Buckingham's tracks brought a good amount of variety and new wave-ish stylings to keep the Fleetwood formula from feeling stale. And second, Stevie Nick's tracks in general are pretty top notch, possibly on the level of Rumours. It's not perfect, most of Christine Mcvie's work feels generic, and Buckingham's experimentation can be a mixed bag in some areas. But overall I did enjoy this a lot more than expected. Favorites: "Sara", "Sisters of the Moon", "Tusk"

🟩 84 🥇 Tusk 🥈 Sara 🥉 Brown Eyes

I enjoyed this, but I think was expecting a 5 star. Still was pretty gretab

I think if it was any other band, in any other era I would call it incoherent. As with any Fleetwood Mac album - context is important. It is a double album where only one song was not written independently by a member of the band. It's an album immediately following Rumours. An album where the band was probably beyond the breaking point. Yet somehow, a great album was produced. Less pop than in Rumours, some darker songs with multiple sounds throughout. Rather than producing a consistent sound, the band balanced the manic with the downbeat. I don't think this is their best, although from what I can see it is the contrarian's choice.

Some good songs, not as good as Rumours but as close as you could get.

It's certainly an album that grows on you. Certainly a nice laid back feel to the whole album. Faves: Sara, Walk a Thin Line, Tusk

Hmmm, not as cohesive as "Rumours", and not as many immediately obviously awesome tracks. Still, though, I can tell this is very good. Maybe more listens would boost this to a five! Fave track - "The Ledge", maybe, or the title track. I like the coked-out-upbeat tracks the most!

Rating: 8/10 Best songs: The ledge, Beautiful child, Tusk

Ah yes, the hipster-preferred Fleetwood Mac record. In spite of that (because of that?), I really like this record. After a couple records woven from a delicate fabric of gold and cocaine, this record feels like a genuine attempt to do something different. I love their self-titled and "Rumors" records - probably more than this one - but I have to reward the effort of branching out artistically in the face of what I imagine was a lot of pressure to make another record the same way. And, I feel like there were personal challenges for the band members at this time too... BWUAHAHAHA. Also, f*** Daisy Jones & The Six.

Their best 80s LP .

Catchy.

So here's something that I learned today: "Black Magic Woman" is a Fleetwood Mac song, first released in 1968 and written by their founder and guitar player, Peter Green, who BB King said was the sweetest guitar player he'd ever heard and Mojo Magazine said was the 3rd greatest guitar player of all time. Anyway, fast forward 11 years to this album. I agree with Mick Fleetwood who said that it sounds like 3 solo albums. Stevie & Christine's are predictable, but you can hear Lindsay leaning toward more of a raw, punk-influenced sound, with little involvement from the others, especially on the first 3 sides. His contribution to Stevie's Sisters of the Moon turns a good song into an epic one. I'm going to give it the mark I would've if the best 10 songs were on one LP.

good album to arrive in BKK

Really nice opportunity to give this album a good amount of my attention! I obviously have listened more to Rumours but I love the folky sounds, the harmonies, obviously Nicks' incredible incredible beautiful voice. I think Fleetwood Mac are an insane band and I personally haven't ever given them enough time beyond listening to the big hits. A great album!

I am really glad to have listened to this in full as Rumours gets all the attention, I knew a few off hear but plenty I didn't! I absolutely love the singing voices and the harmonies and general song writing excellence. Will defs listen again

It's fabulous, but it's not the best. It's a very nice background album and a very nice sound. The song Tusk is incredible though.

When the world needed them most following the release of Rumours, Fleetwood Mac followed up with exactly what fans wanted with a double album of colorful tracks one after the next. This doesn't have the big hits that defined their prior 2 albums and wouldn't produce any new fans, but even the deep cuts have a lot to offer. The experimental nature of the album gives fans something to appreciate, pick your favorites. In a lot of ways this is the Fleetwood Mac equivalent of Prince's Sign O' The Times or The Beatles' White Album, a double-lengthed collection of experimental tracks from the same recognizable band you love. Immediately the first quarter tracks tell us something is off about this record. We start off with the slow, soft, melancholic "Over & Over" before jumping into a bluesy square party in "The Ledge." Then we jump into the power pop "Think About Me," something straight out of a Big Star record. "Save Me a Place" is such a beautiful busy song, love the harmony and the wall of guitar and strange drumming. And finally Stevie Nicks returns with the radio hit "Sara." They really kill with the hyped up guitars and angelic back vocals. I could go on, but with 15 other songs, there's a lot to analyze and appreciate. But overall everyone's on point. Each track is interesting in their own right, even the duds have something I can appreciate about. Everyone kills it on vocals, Nicks, Buckingham, and McVie. Mixing is really impressive. Despite the different styles, everyone always sounds good. Half the time it feels like the instruments serve to back up the vocalists, while at other times the opposite feels true. The psychedelic pop "That's All For Everyone" comes to mind, inspired by Beach Boys' Smile sessions. I wanted to pick my favorites but I really can't. They all stand out to me it's hard to single out anything that particularly appeals to me. I'll be coming back to this one often.

Sara is such a good song, might be their best. Loved the album.

So much variety on this album. It can never beat rumours. But it has its own style and I quitte like it. Something different. Favourite songs: - What makes you think you are the one - Not that funny - Tusk

I thought it’s was really good. No obvious hits, but really interesting only having heard rumors. It’s clearly the same band but it almost sounds like a group of outtakes because it’s so different and unstructured.

Not listened to whole album, little bit slow music, notable songs: Sara What makes you think you're the one Storms I know I'm not wrong Beautiful child

OK, I do not know this one- this is not one of their big ones. I’m assuming Rumours and Tusk is going to be on this list as well, maybe even some early Peter Green-era stuff too? I guess I have to give this one a spin today… duh, THIS IS TUSK. I’ve never seen the actual cover. Okay- I remember a few songs from this, but I didn’t realize it was so heavily back loaded (meaning the best songs are all on sides three and four). It’s a double record, and it was kind of the last big thing Fleetwood Mac did. Stevie had a pretty good solo career after this and they kind of faded into relative obscurity.

Quite soothing music.

3rd listen. A great album that just goes on too long. 4/5 Standouts: Tusk and most of sides 1 and 2.

such a shame I had heard rumours before this

really enjoyed

A tentative 4, I enjoyed it while listening but this one needs revisiting I think.

Genre: Pop Rock 4/5 Following Rumours, a pop/soft rock masterpiece in every sense of the word, Fleetwood Mac went back into the studio and did themselves a favor by making whatever they wanted (within the general confines of pop rock), rather than go into the studio to make an album full of singles again. What followed was Tusk, a 20-song double album that, while not quite era-shaking, is a neat little assortment of some pretty good songs from these guys. There are certainly Rumours quality songs on this project, Sara and Sisters of the Moon especially (shoutout Stevie Nicks), but there’s a little too much Christine McVie singing and a little too much filler for my tastes, especially some of Lindsay’s experiments. This album is good, but when you begin to feel an album’s length as you’re listening, it’s not the best sign. A little long in the tooth. Certainly enjoyable, though.

Not as famous as Rumours but every bit as good

Lovely and grand.

Great album

Had not listened to this one for years and it really is interesting. Experimental but accomplished. You can hear the pain of life in the women’s vocals. Interesting juxtapositions of styles. It is not the easiest to listen to but a great album.

Sara !! Such a good song

Sara is my favorite song. Only complaint is I feel a few songs ran together because it was such a lengthy album.

Very extravagant, overblown, and eclectic. Too many songs, but most are good or great. Better quality control (and less drugs) could have made a tighter, shorter, more consistent album, but that was not the way at that time!

I really dig it

Great album, and all new to me with the exception of a couple songs.

It doesn’t flow like rumours and certainly doesn’t have as many hits as rumours have. But it’s not rumours2. I can see where they were trying to go with this, showing that they were so much more than just one decent album that sold many copies. There is lots of different styles within this album and you can see me disjointedness as well. It’s still an enjoyable listen, it hasn’t aged as well as rumours but it’s still worthy of Its own praise

Álbum relajante, con buenas canciones. Recomendado

Soulful, melodic rock - an enjoyable listen

great album capturing fleetwood mac, strong instrumental songs aswell as vocal ones. Although the use of different singers and styles make it feel like its a mashup of 2/3 different other records. And some songs remind me of more famous songs

Not nearly as good or cohesive as Rumours, but still an enjoyable time. I like the title track best, I think.

Try listening to this album as two albums, one with all the even-numbered tracks and one with all the odd-numbered tracks. Honestly, this may be one of the more overlooked albums for an artist that had a prior number one album. It’s not Rumours and that’s okay. Tusk is one of the best “weird” songs, shout-out to the USC marching band.

Very consistent sounding album in terms of tone and tempo. A concept album. Calm, relaxing.

The percussion sounds too harsh in most of the songs, the transients are too squashed. Maybe it's because I listened to the remastered version. I need to re-listen to this album in its original version someday. Female vocals were on point though.

Over & Over guitar tone / slides are absolutely delicious.

Usually not a fan of double albims but Tusk was a pretty great listen. Each of the three songwriters bring something great to the table. Particually liked Sara and and Angel where there was a notable moment from each member. Over & over me and Tusk were great too.

That was a very enjoyable listen

Always liked this album. Not quite as good as Rumours or Mirage, but good nonetheless. 4/5

Familiar with Tusk the song, and my Fleetwood Mac fandom kinda starts and ends with Rumors. Really looked forward to this one even though my tolerance for double albums is very low. Any record that opens with a Christine McVie vocal is off to a great start. The standouts are from McVie and Stevie Nicks: Sara, Over & Over, Storms, Sisters of the Moon and Angel are just stunning. Found myself skipping through all the Buckingham tracks whose punk-inflected brashness are juxtaposed awkwardly alongside the tender beauty of the Nicks and McVie songs. "Tusk" will always be associated with the TV series The Americans for me. Album ends on a fade out which is crazy?!

4 stars for Sara, sisters of the moon, brown eyes....maybe over and over angel......a few duds

Very nice album of music

Sara, Every time I hear this, it's like the first time. Blows me away.

The Ledge ♥ fav!

I enjoyed this album very much. Some good music.

Riding off the high of "Rumours", Fleetwood Mac all decided to do something a little different. Literally. Lindsey, Stevie and Christine all sort made their own different songs and sort of just put it together as a Fleetwood Mac album. In theory, it shouldn't have been something that works...but for Tusk, it absolutely does. It highlights the creative strengths of each writer, and gives us a strong double album that solidifies this lineup beyond a one-trick pony. Stevie gives us strong ballads, Christine gives us uplifting possibilities, and Lindsey is a mad scientist creating sonically-based monsters. Songs I Already Knew: Tusk, Sara Favorite Songs: Storm (Stevie), Think About Me (Christine), Tusk (Buckingham) Least Favorite: That's All For Everyone

Obviously not as classic as the previous Rumours but still a cracker album.

If this was a single LP it would be a strong 5 stars. A lot of great songs on this one.

Tusk is fleetwoods last real album. It shows the band separating with the different styles throughout. The album feels eclectic but it may be more due to the differences of the members showing through. It’s obviously not their best album but it also isn’t their worst. Would’ve loved to see what could have happened in the 80s as this album had great tunes and they were arguably one of the biggest bands. This is great as Fleetwood always is. As long as Stevie nicks is included. 7.9/10

10/10! A classic <3

Classic mac, dreamy moving soundscapes accented by stevie nick's intoxicating vocals

First album! Strong start. ‘Beautiful Child’ stirred something unknown inside me, something melancholy. Beautiful album

Fleetwood Mac are at their best when the bass is bouncing, the drums are driving, and Stevie is doing her thing. On most of the tracks here, they tap into that sweet spot to create nostalgic, happy-sad tunes with huge production value. Special shoutout to the use of delay, panning and harmonies on this thing; at different points evokes Floyd, Beach Boys and CHuck Berry esque ROck n Roll classics

Not my favorite Fleetwood Mac album... This album is still a classic. Worth listening too every once in a while.

How do you follow up one of the best selling records of all time? By doing something completely different. A long, weird album with way more hits than misses. Tusk is still a bad ass song, and Stevie and Christine still have all the best songs.

Another good Fleetwood Mac album, though it's not as fantastic as their previous two, 'Rumors' and 'Fleetwood Mac'. It's not bad, but you can definitely tell that the musical direction has changed.

Several songs were very good but the sound isn't something I'm into as much.

Beautiful album that is a super easy listen.

Mmmm. Gets me pleasantly right in the ears.

Pretty good but kind of all over the place in terms of cohesion.

Was awesome, I think I just maybe slept on Fleetwood Mac all my life.

Being a 70’s child I was too young to appreciative this Fleetwood Mac era. Luckily for me there are multiple ways to enjoy the music today though. I will admit this is one band I’ve never listened to outside of a Greatest Hits album. I’m very aware of the classics but, as always, these songs do not always tell the whole bands story. Matter of fact, it’s only recently I’ve delved into the bands catalogue and researched the members. Embarrassingly, I always assumed Nicks was the main singer... man was I wrong! Lindsey Buckingham is seriously one of the best rock voices of any era IMO. I like to regard my self as an (average) guitarist, and at least a musician so I understand the technical complexities & nuances involved in most of the songs on this album. For what it’s worth I now regard Lindsey as one of the best guitarists in the world...apologies if I’m a bit slow on the uptake but the guys a freak. I even prefer him vocally, with his raw and passionate tones but that takes nothing away from the girls. Anyway, with all this said I knew what to expect from this album and it didn't disappoint. From the tender ‘Storms’ to the haunting ‘Brown Eyes’ to the heartbreaking ‘Never Make Me Cry’ and then rounding off with the primal ‘Tusk’. As you can probably guess, I have no hesitation in recommending this album. If you don’t find enjoyment somewhere here...then you best check yourself for a pulse. 4 Stars!

Production: 14/20 Songwriting: 15/20 Innovation: 15/20 Bangers: 20/20 Emotional response: 15 =79 Oooooh one mark short of a 5 star

if rumours isn't on here i'mma riot

Really enjoyed this one, which is not surprising since i already liked their style and a few of theirs songs.

Really Nice album. Got a bit boring in parts - I think a few songs could have been culled, but mostly really enjoyed it. Really nice guitar (except the Boing sounding one) and the Drums throughout (Those Toms in Tusk!). Their harmonies are just so good too. *Over & Over, * Storms (beautiful), Sister of the Moon, Honey Hi and of course one of my fav Fleetwood Mac songs - Tusk were my big highlights

Lots of fantastic tracks, but this honestly feels more like a compilation than an album, it’s so long and disconnected. 8

I know it's so long but it's my kind of music. So chill, so pretty. 8 stars

Loved that there was another Fleetwood Mac album and I like how different this one sounded from the other one. Would definitely listen to it again.

I like the way the music sounds in general but over an hour was far too long for this album. Tusk is also severely underrated as far as FM songs go. 7

Fleetwood Foxes

Tusk is the White Album of the 70’s. It’s all over the place. There’s something for everyone to enjoy and there’s something for everyone to skip. At the end of the 70’s bands such as The Police embraced the synth. Tusk instead chose to embrace punk. The album has a few songs on it that remind me of garage rock. Speaking of garage rock, Mick got replaced by Ringo on “What Makes You Think You're the One”. Someone tell me otherwise. It sounds like a drummer just showed up for the gig and has never heard the song before. I can’t stand that it is sandwiched between my two favorite songs on the album. Lyrics have the potential to be something but the drums didn’t allow that to happen. On “Not That Funny” punk enters the ring and I respect them for it. Just not my thing. I’m definitely skipping those two on relistens. Songs I liked: Over & Over The Ledge: Think About Me That’s All for Everyone Angel- I really liked this one lyrically. Brown Eyes Beautiful Child Tusk- The famous title track. I didn’t get the hype but I liked it. MUST LISTENS “Sara” is just Fleetwood Mac doing Fleetwood Mac things. Amazing song with a side of love triangles and a pinch of a love affair. I couldn't figure out what the lyrics meant on “Sisters of the Moon” but then apparently neither could Stevie Nicks. The music is a fantastic jam and stands out as one of the best songs on the album. “Storms” is one of their best songs and the biggest reason why Tusk is an essential Fleetwood Mac album.

Good album! While more experimental than their signature sound, it was great to explore the post-Peter Green Mac. Some really cool sounds, great vocal performances, good songs, it makes me eager to explore the other work. Criticism would be length and several similar sounding songs.

It's not "Rumours". It's really hard to give any substantive criticism to this album because of how heavily the "Rumours" shadow looms over it. "Tusk" is certainly a good album, but it's a little too long and drags at times. And at those times, I'm resisting the temptation to stop the album and put on "Rumours".

Solid album, need to listen again

Good, I love Steve Nick's voice and the band's sound in general. Solid 4 star.

strongly preferred the songs featuring stevie

Pretty good follow-up to Rumors

Not *really* my jam, but OMG Stevie Nicks.

Smooth easy listening. incredible vocals.

7.5 Pretty good but got a little long

Classic Fleetwood Mac. What's not to like?

Super fun album, it's a little long though. I'd still rather listen to rumors!

Commercially overshadowed by rumours, this album Fleetwood Mac side of gems and contains a great depth of songwriting talent

Uh so I listened to the main fleetwood mac album on accident. I have heard this one before as well it is good

Can't go wrong with Fleetwood Mac!

Enjoyed this, especially "Sisters of the moon" and "beautiful child". Not as many hits as Rumours though

Cool album

Liked the versatility of this album, no song sounds like the same and 3 lead singers is a refreshing concept.

riktigt gött sound alltså. det är ett väldigt långt album som drar ner betyget något. men fasen vad det svänger emellanåt.

Fleetwood Mac is great. Few memorable songs unfortunately.

Pretty darn good, mastered quite well.

Very nice listen

Not their best work but still some great stuff here. I’d actually never heard this one before, definitely going to need a second listen at some point

7.5/10. Fave track: storms

1979. Key Songs: Tusk, The Ledge, Think About Me

12/29 There were a couple of good tracks on the first half, they went crazy on the second. Standout Tracks: Sara, What Makes You Think You're the One, Sisters of the Moon, Brown Eyes, Beautiful Child,

The super cool Stevie Nicks doing great vocals on Angels, Sara and Sisters Of The Moon. Thats All For Everyone and Not That Funny are great as well.

i might like this more than rumours honestly. i actually think lindsey buckingham’s vocals are superior to everyone else’s here. maybe a little discordant between the songs, but i liked it.

A single album would have been better. A lack of quality overall.

oh snaps the other fleetwood mac album greatest impression is of how much album there is 💥sara? 💥brown eyes 💥i know i'm not wrong 💥tusk

You can feel the band pulling apart while listening to this album. The three songwriters of the group clearly each had different directions they wanted to go in: Christine McVie's songs are more conventional soft rock, the kind they had been known for up to that point, while Stevie Nicks took a more ethereal and dreamy approach, and Lindsey Buckingham was pulled more towards post-punk. I typically like this sprawling, messy approach to album construction, but unfortunately the song quality is as inconsistent as the sound. Buckingham's tracks in particular are very hit-or-miss, and a fair portion of them lack the punch that makes the best post-punk work for me. Nicks is far and away the strongest on Tusk, with tracks like Sara, Beautiful Child, and Sisters of the Moon being personal standouts. McVie's contributions are solid, but feel somewhat boring compared to the other two. I appreciate the experimental approach they took here, but I ended up respecting it more than I actually liked it.

Je connaissais pas celui-là et même s'il est plaisant il n'a vraiment rien de mémorable Habituée à mieux de leur part !!

This would be a great album if Nicks was the only singer.

This is a really good album. While listening I felt it was deeply romantic, emotional, and strangely intimate for such a big double record. Stevie Nicks’ vocals absolutely carry everything — her voice is so powerful, vulnerable, and magnetic that she becomes the emotional core of the whole project. The album has that classic Fleetwood Mac magic: beautiful melodies, rich harmonies, and a mix of soft romantic moments with some weirder, more experimental edges. From an emotional angle, it feels very honest — you can sense the tension, longing, heartbreak, and complicated relationships running through it. Tusk isn’t as immediately catchy as Rumors, but it has more depth and personality. Stevie’s songs especially hit hard. A strong, heartfelt album that rewards multiple listens.

Alright album. Kind of repetitive. The Ledge and Storms were my favorites. 5.3/10

Tusk definitely drags on for too long, with that said, there are still pretty great moments in this record, you should just not expect a Rumours-esque album, this isn't it. The band surely took a different turn, and it's not a bad decision, but the result is not very polished, there are clearly some dull moments that could've been cut. Overall a pretty good listen, the songwriting and arrangements may feel repetitive as the album progresses, and the record begins to wear on you when you arrive near the end, luckily the wonderful "Tusk" works amazingly as a reset; at least for me, this track was so refreshing and possibly came at the perfect moment to wake me back up. Other must-listens are (obviously) "Sara","Sisters of the Moon" and "Brown Eyes" I give it a 7.5/10.

Originally Fleetwood Mac were a hard hitting cutting edge blues band in the late 60s. However by the time this album came out they had evolved or should I say degenerated into a middle of the road 'girlie, let's make as much money as we can' outfit. True to say, earlier band members who made them great had left by them. I urge you to seek out their earlier work.

6/10, not bad but the whole album feels a little unfinished.

This is what "phoning it in" sounds like. What a chore to listen to.

Shockingly Inconsistent. Stevie Nicks carries tho

It's always been the case but when listening to this album there are clearly 3 independent songwriters which makes it a bit disjointed. Apparently Lindsey Buckingham was into Talkin Heads and trying to be more experimental. While I appreciate the effort, some songs didn't fit at all. Christine McVie and Stevie Nicks both contributed hits. Angel was a new find for me. Overall it would have been a better single album than a double.

Good, but kinda some filler. A lot of it sounds the same and its really long. BUT the length paired with the sound makes it kinda a vibe. middle of the road for me

Not one of my favorites by them but it's a good one. It wouldn't be on this list if it weren't.

Decent albums. A bit hit and miss. They were clearly trying to follow up on the success of Rumours but could catch lightning in a bottle this time
