Reviews (page 7 of 13)
그냥 평범했다. It was just ordinary.
Worth a listen
In the unfortunate position of following up Rumours, Tusk doesn't offer anything to convince me I shouldn't just be listening to it's predecessor. After a monumental success it's impossible to recapture the magic, in no small part because you're given unlimited support and money. The record-breaking budget of Tusk is more an indictment than an endorsement. Much like George Lucas's Star Wars prequels, this album demonstrates what is lost when creative constraints don't exist. I don't know how to create good music, but I know to continue making it requires constant criticism of the old and reinvention of the new, and Tusk doesn't do either.
Clear step down from their best couple albums but the Nix-led ballads here are still highlights, Sara and Sisters of the Moon especially. 3/4 border
Again, not bad, not good. Just meh. Looking forward to better fleetwood mac albums tho but this aint it.
Fleetwood Mac was one of those artists If never gotten around to actually listen. I have to ti say, it is nice and good, but it honestly feels a little boring. Nothing wrong with it, but not particularly memorable to me.
Underwhelming to say the least as a fan of their other work. Also underwhelming considering the production budget for this thing.
Me he guardado Sara y Angel. Suena muy bien, pero no he terminado de llamar mi atención. He leído que está considerado su álbum más experimental. Es cierto que no tiene canciones fáciles de escuchar, aunque a día de hoy no suena especialmente raro.
Ambitious album with some mis-steps. Generally liked it
Good vibes but that's it. Liked "Beautiful Child" and "Walk a Thin Line".
empezó bien aunque es un flow muy tranquilo, la calificación es muy canción por canción, me parece que hay unas que cambian mi opinión y así pero en general le pondría 2,5 o 3
Fleetwood Mac is very hit or miss for me. Or maybe I should say hit or meh. This album is primarily meh.
Goddamit, I KNOW I wrote a review for this, and it's not here. That pisses me off. As did this album. I mean TUSK. What a great fucking name for an album or a band. In either case, though, it should be a fantasy-oriented stoner doom-psyche metal band/song, not . . . whatever this album is.
3/5 - This is what a blank check of coke sounds like. Schizophrenic and overly long, but has its moments.
I had higher hopes for this album as Tusk is one of my non-negotiable no skip songs. I think my mindset definitely changed the real rating.
Title track is great but the album in general falls short compared to their better work. 3/5
It's not Rumours but it has it's moments.
Nice melodies but after a while repetitive. Won't add to my library
#960. I don't know if I would classify this as one of the albums you need to hear before you die, but I would classify it as one of the albums. 3/5: acceptable.
Not necessarily a Fleetwood Mac girly, but I can certainly appreciate me some Fleetwood Mac from time to time.
So much cocaine.
Good for people that like Fleetwood Mac. The downside is it epitomizes everything people dislike about Fleetwood Mac too.
A big album, but no songs I recognize. Still it was enjoyable
3,2/5
An experiment that doesn't prove a hypothesis is still a successful experiment.
Following up Rumours has to be impossible…and while I don’t think this comes near its quality, there’s still some good songs sprinkled throughout. Likes: Sara; Storms; Angel

J'adore le groupe, mais cet album n'est pas une grande réussite 2.5+/5
It's not Rumors, but it was okay
honestly kinda mid
Too long, not many great songs but not terrible
Longer than it should be, but there's a lot of pleasant songs on here. Everyone can find something that they might like. Nothing groundbreaking though.
Funny that the title track is the last on the album and it's kinda weird!
La force de vouloir en faire trop ne garantit pas le succès
Much much slower paced than the previous album obviously but it wasn’t too bad, 20 songs to make up an hour and fourteen minutes is alright, some of the songs I felt may have dragged on slightly but other than that not too bad I thought the guitar was quite good in some songs. My top three are Over and Over, Sara and Sisters of the Moon
Weet wanneer je moet stoppen met nummers op een album stoppen, no way dat dit album 20 nummers nodig had. Verder een prima album dat beter had geweest als het wat leaner was
Big, weird, and scattershot. About twice as long as it should be. It’s a clear downgrade from Rumours, but I do appreciate the boldness here and the refusal to make a basic sequel.
It's definitely no Rumors
3.2
very fun. great production but lot of filler tracks and very dragged out. beach boys smile works vibes
Top : Sisters of the Moon Flop : Not That Funny
Sure I’ve heard the millions of singles, but I’ve never listened to a full album. I think I’d like Rumors a lot. I liked this one, but I didn’t love it. I liked Not That Funny and Sisters Of The Moon.
This is just a bit too long for me, and I'm not sure it's something I'd deliberately listen to ever. But it's good?
This album is boring. That's my main takeaway. It's my first Fleetwood Mac album and it doesn't give me hope for the other, much more popular one, Rumours. This was the most ok album ever.
Estoy seguro que debe haber mejores, es el primero que escucho de Fleetwood. Stevie es toda la magia Nota: 3.4
3.5
Kinda boring and wayy too long. Didnt even finish it
Odd collection. I remember the fuss about the album when it came out. Mostly mundane music
This one's tough. Fleetwood Mac is one of my favorite bands (Rumours was the album I learned to drop a needle on), and I've tried a few times over the years to get into this one. Following two of the most successful pop rock albums of the 70s with an art rock double LP just feels "experimental" to the point of over indulgence, particularly on Lindsey Buckingham's part. Many of the tracks feel unfinished, as though an idea for a longer more, meaningful piece, while others feel over polished or too long. The lack of traction for any single aside from Sara speaks volumes, despite a robust critical reception. Still, there's enough here to cobble together a single album that would have been respectable if not great, so it lands at a rather disappointing 3/5 for me.
I think this would be a lot stronger if they cut out the weaker tracks and just made this a significantly shorter album. There’s some great songs on here but also some quite boring ones. The title track is a stand out and I wish they’d done more in that vein.
Too lengthy, I found my mind starting to drift while listening. I don't really see why this is is rated so high - in my books they've released stronger efforts, such as „Tango in the night“.
Sara makes this album for me, I’ve always rated it as a song. I’m a massive Fleetwood mac fan tbh and specially from this era. Although it’s no rumours, I still enjoyed the album, I’m expecting rumours to be on this list at some point. It’s more of a b side album but I think it shows how creative they were.
Not as good as rumours for me but still got some great tracks on it and I'm a guy who really loves 70s productions... Just a little bit too long of an album for me, it can get tiring!
A destacar: Track 1 - Over & Over Track 5 - Sara Track 7 - Storms Track 10 - Sisters of the Moon Track 15 - I Know I’m Not Wrong Track 20 - Never Forget
Very long. Too long I would say. Some songs were pretty decent, mostly the tracks were there in the background.
2.5
los temas están buenos, ninguno desentona y me gusta como laburaron los coros en el disco (a diferencia de temas posteriores de la banda), pero no podés hacer un disco de 20 temas, 0 sentido.
what in the massive downgrade was that
I can see why this didn’t do as well as Rumours. Nothing outstanding but equally nothing terrible. Just fair to middling stuff.
Another middle of the road offering with no real highs or low.
I’m surprised (and excited) I haven’t heard any of these songs before. Different kind of sound for sure and it was all over the place, but I liked it. Althoughhhh too many songs.
Disappointing. Fleetwood Mac-lite. The massive production costs are a sure sign of an artist looking to cover up a void at the heart of the work.
I listened to this three times. I like Fleetwood Mac a lot but this album isn’t my favorite. Strong neutral.
Weaker Fleetwood Mac album but ok
I was excited to get a Fleetwood Mac album, but then got very disappointed when I realized it was those Fleetwood Mac songs I skip when listening to their stuff.
enjoyed this more than the last time i listened to this album 6 or 7 years ago. some greats songs, some not so great songs.
Lots of mac fans obsess about this album but I don't really get why. There's some experimental stuff I suppose, and they aren't going all out for global hits. Stevie is drenched in reverb and Christine offers a couple of gorgeous piano ballads. But mostly i found it boring, and wished it was rumours
This isn't a good album, but the interesting bits are really good. Shame there's at least an album of very boring and not very well put together material here.
Really liked Tusk(song) in Tusk(album). Fleetwood Mac pretty good me thinks yes yes. Forgot they made The Chain. Ver Gud song.
Pretty interesting album. From the start, you know it's going to be a bit different--for one, who opens an album with a soft, ballad-esque track? Especially a double album? Post-Rumours Fleetwood Mac is who, I guess. If they wanted to go for a different experience than their previous efforts, they succeeded. A few of the songs on Tusk sound like they could fit in on an earlier album, but the majority sound and feel like contrasts to what had come before. The shift doesn't feel forced, which makes it more enjoyable than it might be otherwise. I think the worst aspect of the album is that a lot of it feels disjointed. Where contention in the band worked for the better in constructing Rumours, here it just makes everything feel a bit piecemeal. The shifts from one writer/performer to another seem more stark than before. Even within the songs themselves things sometimes feel unpolished or incomplete. There really aren't any tracks I would consider bad, though. Some of them are pretty good, and there are definitely stand out songs. You just have to wade through a lot of seemingly random stuff happening to get to those good ones. I wouldn't say that there's a lot of filler here (as can happen on double albums), but the runtime makes it a more difficult listen. This one is a little tricky for me. I did like it, I just didn't really love it. It's interesting, but in a way that I find hard to quantify. And the end of the day, I'll say it's good, but not great. I think it's worth the listen, though. Overall: 3.25/5
I had high expectations and unfortunately they were not met. It’s way too long and contains too much mediocre material. The good stuff really stands out (the first song is beautiful) but is muddied by the average.
No big hits but that made it more interesting.
3.5, not my fave fleetwood mac
I like them but wasn't familiar with this album of theirs
This was…fine. I feel like Stevie’s songs are doing a lot of heavy lifting here. I disliked Lindsay’s songs the most because they all sounded kind of garbled to me as far as the mix.
Ok, not my favorite
The songs I like here are the ones that sound the most like Rumors. Rumors better be here.
I listened to this album at a Benefits Fair, waiting in line to exchange a meal voucher for a carnitas and chicken bowl. I was well into the middle of What Makes You Think You're the One by the time I got to the front of the line. I also read the text message "That would be funny!!" just as "Not That Funny" started playing. It feels weird to begin my journey with Fleetwood Mac here, and not with an album like Rumours; I worry that an unfamiliarity with the band might be playing a part in my reaction to this album, because I am getting very little sense of identity here. Almost every song here, especially throughout the first half, sounds like it could have come from an entirely different band. There's what sounds like a classic folk outfit, then a jug band, then a Billy Joel song, then the soundtrack to a Vaudeville show, then finally the Stevie Nicks songwriting I primarily associate the band with. For being an immediate followup to Rumours, Tusk is surprisingly slight and disjointed in some parts, with only consistently plucky and sparking guitar work serving as a somewhat constant presence. Some of instruments are occasionally mixed so loudly that I feel like I'm being punched. I was told by my friend, after conducting their own research on the album, that Lindsey Buckingham wanted Tusk to send nothing like Rumours, which is understandable for the purposes of new creative expression, but man, what an unfortunate decision. I have to stop researching Fleetwood Mac for now, as I will surely have the chance to pick up my research later, but I can already tell that they are a strange, strange band. And how was this the most expensive rock album ever recorded at the time? While there are great songs, and the second half is much more consistent than the first, it still a baffling experience. Highlights: The Ledge, Think About Me, What Makes You Think You're the One, Angel, Brown Eyes, Never Make Me Cry, Honey Hi, Beautiful Child, Walk a Thin Line, Never Forget
like youre shitting me its fucking fleetwood mac's tusk with usc marching band. #fighton
Es un álbum más calmado pero con canciones increíbles como Sara y tusk
Enjoyable but immemorable
This sounded to me like four people trying to make a Fleetwood Mac album while Lindsey Buckingham was trying to make a Ween album. Christine was the VIP here in my opinion.
Harmony vocals are ok. Slap guitars are ok but the kick bass is too harsh throughout imo. Being unable to see Stevie twirl is limiting my love of this one. Hits of Sara and Angel and Tusk carry this one for me, but some tracks I had to pass by.
It was alright
One of those bands for whom my opinion changes just about every time I have cause to listen. This was a disinterested day; tomorrow may be different. "Tusk" is a cool song, though.
goes on and on. its not like The Suburbs where the songs are all the same. it has variations here in there. gives off slow dance vibes.
Fint, men står inte ut alls lika mycket som Rumours
Fine album and a good listen but not the best Fleetwood Mac album
Half the songs were amazing but the other half were awful.
When Joseph Heller was asked why he hadn't ever written anything as good as Catch-22 since, his reply was that neither has anyone else. That pretty much sums up this album when compared to Rumours. However, the sparser arrangements make for an interesting soundscape and I particularly enjoyed the driving drums on Tusk, which makes you feel an impending sense of doom.
q country suenan pensé q era de sus primeros álbumes
i liked it i guess you cant go wrong with fleetwood mac, not there best but surly not the worst
Stevie. Enough said. And Storms is beautiful… but the album is missing something for me. Maybe it doesn’t feel as good as its individual parts.
Je ne le connaissais pas du tout. Pas mal, mais sans plus. Par contre j'ai adoré la chanson Sara (vraiment incroyable). Sisters of the Moon est pas mal aussi.
A few amazing songs in here, but it isn't super consistent
I have such a complicated relationship with this band. Nice solid album though.
This was a good album but one which suffered from having rumors expectations. Good listen but nothing jumped out at me.
Album #63: Tusk - Fleetwood Mac Genre (W): Pop rock, soft rock, avant-pop, new wave Singles: Tusk, Sara, Not That Funny, Think About Me, Sisters of the Moon, Angel I have not listened to this album before. Thoughts?: Decent album with some beautiful songs, great harmony vocals, and an overall relaxed atmosphere. A lot of the songs felt like filler to me, therefore, my rating is lowered. Favorite songs: The Ledge, Save Me a Place, Sara, Storms, That’s All for Everyone, Sisters of the Moon, Brown Eyes, Beautiful Child, Tusk
I don't think I've ever listened to Tusk in its entirety before — I didn't remember it as a double album. Not that long ago, someone asked me what my favorite non-Rumours Fleetwood Mac song was, and I came up with "Tusk." (Their best song of all is obviously "The Chain.") After listening to that song today, I wonder if what I like so much about those two is that they don't sound a lot like the standard Fleetwood Mac stuff to me. Marching band? Come on! But that makes it great. No disrespect intended to their other songs — a good upbeat Christine McVie track is always welcome, and Stevie Nicks solo or with the group is her own special brand of mystic. Most of the songs on this are fine, but just fine.
I did not particularly enjoy this album. Not to be One Of Those People, but the only songs I really liked much were the songs where Stevie’s voice stood out or was pretty solo. Sorry :(
One of the greatest rock bands of all time with all the edges sanded off. I don't know why you would take a band known for big arrangements, lots of harmonies, memorable hooks, and strong emotional content, and then just not do any of that. There are some decent songs on here but it's all a little forgettable - the best songs on Tusk are about on par with the worst songs on Rumours (still quite good). There aren't nearly enough good songs to justify the double album format.
Yeah ok album. Bit dull
109. v fleetwood mac
Eh alright - 3
I liked this. I hadn’t sat down and listened to a Fleetwood Mac album until I got Rumours for this project a few months back. Given that album’s status I was pretty underwhelmed. This one benefited from lower expectations. It’s pretty chill throughout, and I like the vibes. The songs are kinda halfway there, and there’s an unfinished feel even though it was the most expensive album ever to that date. It was a pleasant hour and change. I like the Christine McVie songs the best I think.
I was a little bit more excited to hear that this album was Fleetwood Mac’s most experimental project than what this album actually delivered. Some really good songs, some boring, mostly just aggressively average.
over and over—good, nice sound, nice melody and pleasant to listen to the ledge—cool upbeat song; reminds me of country music. funkier and interesting song. it sounds very nice sara—stevie’s voice is such a pleasant surprise compared to lindsey’s (yuck). not my favorite, but not bad either not that funny—funky; I dig it. it sounds like an experimental, mac demarco-esqe song sisters of the moon—BEAUTIFUL whimsical stevie nicks-y song. so pretty and whimsical beautiful child—absolute standout. favorite so far. I think the vocal delivery is outstanding and i’m sure there’s a deeper meaning to the lyrics that i’m too lazy to look up, but this is absolutely amazing. beautiful instrumental as well
Over & over - 4/5 The ledge - 2/5 Think about me - 3/5 Save me a place - 2/5 Sara - 4/5 What makes you think you're the one - 3/5 Storms - 3/5 Thats all for everyone - 2/5 Not that funny - 2/5 Sisters of the moon - 3/5 Angel - 3/5 Thats enough for me - 2/5 Brown eyes - 4/5 Never make me cry - 3/5 I know I'm not wrong - 3/5 Honey hi - 2/5 Beautiful child - 4/5 Walk a thin line - 2/5 Tusk - 1/5 Never forget - 2/5
6/10 I’ve got to be honest and admit that I found this a pretty tough listen. Coming off the back of Rumours was always going to be an uphill battle, but it feels like they kind of crumbled under the pressure, with the disintegrating personal relationships in the aftermath of that previous record also having an impact on its makeup. The strangest thing about this record is that, to me, it feels very much like the bonus content from a deluxe version of a much more coherent album. Christine McVie and Stevie Nicks’ work feels well produced and stylistically consistent, even if it does feel a little underdeveloped, but Lindsey Buckingham’s tracks feel, for the most part, like poorly recorded demo tracks, rather than polished pieces of the (at the time) most expensive album ever produced. Apparently he was obsessed with the Beach Boys’ Smile sessions at the time and had managed to get hold of the master tapes, which he listened to relentlessly during the making of this record. Unfortunately, his takeaway from that experience seems to have been to experiment endlessly with production, which evidently isn’t his strength, rather than focusing on the songwriting, which Rumours suggests actually is. That’s not to say this is a bad record. There’s some great stuff in there, and some hints that, with the right focus, a lot of this stuff could have been massaged into something more coherent. But I do get the feeling that, rather than pounding out each songwriter’s contributions as a band, bouncing off one another to sculpt something magnificent out of each others starting points, they kind of accepted each song as it came and didn’t do the final band refinement of the material that would have elevated it. In terms of the songs themselves, they often feel like like they lack any of the urgency and power of Rumours, and even some of the better songs feel like album tracks that could have been chopped from that album because they didn’t add anything. Stylistically, we jump between crisp and clear productions and stuff that sounded like it was recorded on a dictaphone in a toilet cubicle, which doesn’t help at all with the album flow. It’s also way, way too long. You could easily have made a 10-12 track album out of this material which would have been tighter, more consistent and way easier to parse as a listener. The biggest shame for me is that you can hear where this could have gone, but it never really gets there. Over & Over - It’s a pretty, fairly easy listening start. There are moments where it starts to build into the sort of sound that they had reached with Rumours, but it’s generally a bit more sparse and not as melodically strong as anything from that album. That’s not to say there aren’t some lovely moments, and it’s an enjoyable track, but it feels a little bit drifty and lacking in significant amounts of power or focus. The Ledge - For an album that cost a million dollars to produce in 1979, the recording quality of this track is terrible. There’s a good bit of zip and pace to this, but it feels like an interesting demo track recorded in a bathroom that probably needs a bit more refining and working before it’s ready to be recorded for the album proper. Think About Me - And to emphasise the recording deficiencies of the last track, here’s a well produced, crisp and clear song. It’s got great playing, particularly from the rhythm section. It’s got a nice central hook, it’s well developed and some of the vocal harmonies are lovely. Great stuff. Save Me A Place - Apparently for some of his tracks, Lindsey Buckingham recorded drums that he played at home on a Kleenex box and then asked Mick Fleetwood to overdub them later. This is another Buckingham song that sounds poorly produced and while there’s a core idea there that’s not bad, it again feels a little aimless and underdeveloped. There’s potential in there, but ultimately it’s just a bit too dull and repetitive. Sara - It’s a Stevie track now, and we’re back to some decent production standards. It’s quite pretty and there are some more really decent moments in here, but it does feel overly long and a little bit too persistent with a rhythmic base that stays very dynamically flat and static throughout. It also never really finds its melodic moment that grabs you and won’t let go like the best of their work as a band. It’s really well performed and sounds great though, with John McVie’s bass sounding particularly smooth and well delivered. What Makes You Think You're The One - Lindsey Buckingham has no respect for the drums does he? Another one where the drums sound really sloppily recorded (apparently on a boombox that Buckingham brought into the studio) and not only that but Fleetwood goes on to massively overplay the drum part. Again, this sounds like an underdeveloped demo rather than a final song. They’re obviously good songwriters, but at this point it feels like they’re more focused on trying to work on being ‘experimental’ with the studio, rather than refining the actual compositions, which is a real shame, because the whole of this sounds shoddy, over compressed and overplayed. Storms - Back to another clear and airy track, although the lead guitar is oddly loud. The harmonies are lovely and there are some gorgeous choices of rhythm for the chord changes. It rolls and pulses along calmly, but there feels like there’s a slight undercurrent of disquiet behind it too. The central melodic hook of the chorus is nice. It’s not the most ear worming of melodic lines, but it works well with this kind of subtle song. That's All For Everyone - Lindsey was reportedly obsessed with the Beach Boys Smile at the time of recording this, and there’s big echoes of that work on this track, particularly in the production. The backing vocals are excellent and subtle and it has a satisfying rolling groove to it. It’s very dreamlike, the melodies are great and the vibe is excellent. This is his most coherent and well produced track on the album thus far, let’s hope it continues in this vein. Not That Funny - Alas, no. This is another track that has promise, but feels more like a demo than a fully realised track. The recording is gritty, but the album is very inconsistent on that front, so it sounds patchy and unintended. This doesn’t offer a great deal of variation or development, the mix is muddy and while you can hear the quality of the performances and musicianship, it just feels a little under baked and shoddily mixed. Sisters Of The Moon - This is much more like it. It’s a slow build with a great pulsing groove to it and moments where it picks up and drives. It’s harmonically rich and engaging, cleanly produced with a little bit of grit and bite around the edges and it’s got a solid central hook that they dance around brilliantly. The guitar solo work is great here and the rhythm section is really impactful. A really solid effort. Angel - Another that harks back to the clean and clear sound with a tiny bit of bite that was the hallmark of Rumours. The rhythm section is on point here, it’s got so much feel and grove between Fleetwood and Mac. Quality melodic lines and those doubled up harmonies between Stevie and Christine that always connect. When they’re on, they’re really on and they drift to and from the hooks in a really satisfying way. It feels like we’re back in the swing of this now. That's Enough For Me - Yeah, we’re definitely on a roll now, even Buckingham’s getting out of his own way. It’s still a bit on the gritty side, but there’s enough recording quality in there to keep it tonally in sync with the last couple of tracks. It’s got pace, a great groove, and the vocal is solid. Good stuff Brown Eyes - This is decent too. It’s subtle and delicate, but the tonal washes from the shimmering guitar and floating vocal harmonies are nice and the boys in the rhythm section give it a pleasing back beat, with the bass strolling around injecting a tiny bit of urgency and Mick adding a few fills here and there to keep things interesting. It’s perhaps a touch on the long side, but it’s very pretty. Never Make Me Cry - This is pretty enough, but it’s also fairly dull. It’s a basic composition, with a fairly stripped back orchestration and while the production is great and the vocal performance is solid, it doesn’t really offer a vast amount of inetrest. I Know I'm Not Wrong - There’s a bit more of that Rumours lilt to this, but it doesn’t manage to land on anything quite as hooky or engaging as the actual Rumours tracks. The harmonica part here is crap too. I quite like the guitar solo though. There’s not a lot of dynamic or rhythmic range here and the awful drum sound from some of the earlier Lindsey compositions carries through. It seems that Lindsey played every part on this track, which is probably why it sounds a bit unrefined and more like a demo than a final track. Honey Hi - Christine McVie comes back in with another pretty little track that, while pleasant enough, feels like an album filler track. Again, the scattergun nature of the production across this album is pretty baffling. Beautiful Child - Good lord, this album feels long. Much like the previous track, this is pretty, it has a good melodic hook at the centre of it, but n this case, it drags on for way too long. It’s a very sparse production and it has some lovely moments, particularly some of the vocal harmonies here and there, but it feels a little underdeveloped and dynamically and rhythmically monotonous, especially for a song of this length. Walk A Thin Line - God, this is plodding and pretty dull. It doesn’t really offer much in the way of development or range, the overdone drum fills sound so sloppy and it’s incredibly repetitive. Tusk - This is actually quite an interesting track, even though stylistically it is nothing at all like the rest of the record that bears its name. It’s got a great groove and some playful and engaging production work. It’s not exactly the kind of sound you’d be expecting from Fleetwood Mac, and it was a very odd choice as the lead single for the album, but it’s at least got a bit of something about it. Never Forget - Closing with another solid Christine track. It’s got some good rhythmic delivery of the vocal against the rhythm section which creates a nice lilt to the groove. There are some decent melodic moments and vocal harmonies in there too. It’s not the most interesting composition, but it’s still pretty decent and it builds nicely as it runs along.
Many fillers but all the songs with Stevie are absolute delight
It sounds good, but it also sounds uninspired and a little bit lazy in a lot of ways. Then take that average attitude and double the number of tracks. Yeah, it's not bad by any means, but they've done so much better work than this.
It was always going to be a tricky proposition following Rumours, and for me Tusk fell well short. For a start, there’s far too much of it. Twenty tracks are a lot to process, and much of the album feels directionless and a bit dull. Though not all bad. The two big singles, “Sara” and the title track are obvious highlights. The former sounds like the classic Mac of the two previous records. The latter is the most strikingly different track on the album (though “The Ledge” gives it a run for its money); percussion heavy and sacrificing melody for pure drive. It’s joyous and bonkers, with an excellent accompanying video - if that’s your thing. 6/10
Kinda schizophrenic album, it's really all over the place with the songs from the 3 different vocalists. I quite like some of the McVie and Nicks songs, most of the Buckingham ones seem to stick out like a sore thumb, but they do have their appeal. Can't really rate this any higher than a 3, on account of lack of any killer tracks and 20 tracks without much to say.

Gammelt bekjentskap. Jeg digger Fleetwood Macs pop rock. Dette albumet er dog rimelig inkonsistent. Top 3: Think About Me, The Ledge, Storms
its ok, didn't really do much for me, I can see , not that funny is a standout
Good...not great.
This was fine to listen to but also didn’t hold my attention as well as I expected from a pretty beloved group. No big complaints but nothing specific that I loved either. Middle of the road 3/5 for me
Mwoa beetje traag, beetje lang, maar heeft prima stukkies (ik noem een gitaarsolo aan het eind van sisters of the moon), title track is ook nice
Calling this the "least interesting Fleetwood Mac album I've heard" is one hell of a compliment. That being said: this is the least interesting Fleetwood Mac album I've heard.

It was ok. I didn't love it
3.5
An interesting album, liked tne Lindsay Buckingham contributions most, could have been condensed into a single album, but at the likely at the expense of some of the weirdness and variety that is this album’s appeal.
I wish I could give 3.5! I loooove the song Tusk and Sara, and I enjoyed listening to the rest.
Enjoyed listening to this one! Stevie Nicks is the best - I think I added almost every song she sang
You just can’t really follow up a perfect album with something this long and rambling and random and not Stevie focused enough. Love Tusk and That’s All For Everyone tho a LOT
Some bright spots in here but I don’t see myself returning to this one as an album really. 3 stars
The album contains the song Sara which is an amazing song but overall the album is good but does not come close to Rumors.
I was wondering when I'd hit Fleetwood Mac, but was a bit surprised this was the first album that I was assigned - I was not familiar with anything on this album. I kept on going back and forth between giving it a 3 and 4 rating throughout. There were some songs that I really liked (Sara, Storms, Angels) and others that I really did not (Over & Over - whining right out of the gate - instant skip, also Walk a Thin Line). I appreciated the variety of tracks on this album, but some of them felt unfinished (Brown Eyes) and why were there several not as good versions of Second Hand News (That's Enough for Me)? Ultimately, too many songs that were just meh for me so (3).
Toe-tapping fun. Decent vocals. Not the biggest Fleetwood Mac fan but this album was perfectly fine!
This album gets a lot of flack. For me, it’s another 2-disc album that feels not good enough to be a great album but if it was whittled down to 45 minutes there would be too many good songs on the cutting room floor.
Decent, not as great as I was expecting.
prima, niet spectaculair
I enjoyed listening through this one, as I wasn't super familiar with the songs on the album. It's a good album and fun to listen through, but it is pretty long.
this project felt incomplete. vocals were missing, or something. not their best showing Would I listen again: to try and understand it more, i guess Deserves to be on this list: no 3.1
Excellent, an album recently recommended to me in r/1001AlbumsGenerator. Weird that I've listened to Rumours so many times (playing through from start to finish) but never touched Tusk - weird but consistent with my whole "one album is enough to focus on" phenomenon. Quick look at Wikipedia - can I really credit that this album was influenced by post-punk, when it was released in 1979?? I would have said new wave was still in full swing at that time, I would have thought some way before post-punk. But TIL Gang of Four's Entertainment! was released in September 1979 - it's my listening taste that lagged a little. Wikipedia article says Lindsay Buckingham was "infatuated with bands such as Talking Heads"?? Anyway, back to Fleetwood Mac. Track 1 is nice. But production quickly goes sparse, and then musical inspiration and judgement go AWOL. By the second half of side 2, it's dragging ... (Some of the tracks are not unpleasant ....) In summary, it's a Mix of Good and Bad, 5/10.
It is too long, no need for a double album. Cut some of the BS "experimental" filler and this could have been a killer album. The rest of the band wrote some good classic Fleetwood Mac songs and they sound great. I understand not wanting to make Rumours II but it feels like the Buckingham songs could have been more developed, maybe use the rest of the band to tighten up the ideas.
Good album! A bit different from rumours but good.
The pinnacle of soft rock. I could see a soft rock fanatic ascending to the dulcet tunes of Sara or Think About Me. It kinda has the sounds of dream pop but without the exaggerated dreaminess that I love.
Cool
Its pretty good but around half way through i found it pretty repetitive. The songs all blended together
Some tracks were instant classics and others were …. Debating between a strong 3 or weak 4. Stevie Nicks’s songs were my favorites. I think she had one of the best voices in the business. I added “Sara” to my Generator playlist.
So so. A mix of melodic song along with other more interesting. I prefer Peter Green's Fleetwod Mac
Listening session: march 2nd, while getting ready in the morning Listened to before: no Thoughts: Fleetwood Mac is always nice to listen to but I’d only put on this specific album in the background because this didn’t wow me Favourite tracks: Sara & Storms
This album had a lot going on. Some songs were sounding so good it felt like they were actually touching my brain. Some of if was boring.
Märkligt relation till Fleetwood Mac. T ex trodde jag de var amerikaner och har uppfattat det som Americana. Konstigt! Det är ju bra. Bra låtar. Bra arr. Duktiga sångare. Bra insatserpå instrumenten. Osv. Men det fattas något. Jag blir inte engagerad. Jag minns inget om låtarna eller människorna. Så då får det blir en trea. Synd, för de är värda mer.
I've heard a lot about this infamous album but have never given it a listen. After repeat listens all day it isn't the train wreck I thought it might be. Good for them for going in a newish direction and not running back what worked on Rumours. The Stevie Nicks songs stand out.
It's no "Rumours" but it was decent.
god
Damn this was really boring and wayyyyy too long. Stoner rock with not much meat on the bone. Sorry not sorry 4.5/10
Temp
Experimental, good lyrics, a bit of a mess
kommt schwer an "Rumours" ran, aber ..... ok
My college girlfriend loved this one, but I always preferred Rumours Funny to see that not changed over the years I'd probably also put Tango In the Night above Tusk Its ok
pretty nice
okay
Really just not as good as Rumors tbh. 6/10
Honestinho, longe do melhor deles
This is all over the place. A bit like the band at the time I guess. It’s like a bunch of solo projects were thrown together to make an album. Stevie Nicks is the standout songwriter and vocalist, Lindsey Buckingham so wants to be David Byrne at times and Christine McVie is kind of forgettable here. Not great. 2.5
It's Fleetwood Mac so its going to be good but not something I would put on myself, still has some good songs
Mediocre. More hype than substance.
There is an otherworldly texture that Fleetwood Mac is privy to that defies all sense. Songs like Sara achieve that quality. They are haunting and incredibly compelling. Others are not. Mostly everything that Lyndsey Buckingham takes lead vocal on has an unfortunate stink I’d call boogie-woogie and we’re the poorer for it.
My first Fleetwood Mac album. Not bad. Some tracks seemed out of place. I may try to listen to this again someday.
It’s more modern I like
Some songs I liked but it wasn’t stevie enough for me, of course I still like Fleetwood Mac
On reputation alone, I expected this to be far crazier, experimental, and stupid than it was. The title track was, but to be honest, it otherwise felt like a pretty run-of-the-mill Fleetwood Mac album, lacking the real standouts of your great ones. The solo on "Sisters of the Moon" absolutely ripped.
Sounds pretty enough, well produced, just a little boring? Did not need to be 75 minutes long
Pretty much a defining moment for the band
Would relisten. Not that innovative despite trying to be “post-rock” supposedly.
Really enjoyed most of Buckingham's songs and interesting album to read about. I enjoy the cover as well. I ended up saving around half the songs so three stars feel fair even though the more experimental aspect makes me want to raise it a star. Rating: 3.5
There's not a single song (of 20?!) that would break the top 5 of "Rumors." This seems indulgent and like a set of single-artist songs. Still, Stevie Nicks is great.
Admittedly tough to follow up Rumours, but a bloated 2LP is not the way
Nothing wrong with it nothing spectacular. Fav song: beautiful child
Tusk is an ambitious but uneven follow-up to Rumours, trading that album’s dreamy cohesion for a more fragmented, experimental approach. While its risk-taking and variety are admirable, the stripped-back production and stylistic shifts disrupt the emotional flow, making it feel less immersive and less unified. There are strong moments, but as a whole it lacks the atmosphere and consistency that made Rumours so compelling 3/5
I mean es fleetwood mac pero no lo sé, como han hecho cosas tan top esto se siente mid y todo como muy en la misma nota, pero igual cool
This one is fine. Not my favorite FMac album. 3 stars
First listen
Coming off Rumours, Fleetwood Mac went in a strange direction. This album, considered the most expensive record at the time of its release, suffers from a bit of an identity crisis. It wants to continue the traditional Fleetwood Mac sound while also leaning into a poppier direction and experimenting with elements of new wave here and there. It tries to be too many things at once, and that shows in its length. It's not a hard listen, but it's hardly a consistent one. Most of the tracks are lyrically bland, circling around the same themes, and while they sound good and are well produced, the album becomes tiring without enough interesting turns to build momentum. There are still some good tracks, and it's not bad at all - it's just a bit exhausting. The tracks I enjoyed most were "Tusk", "Brown Eyes", and maybe "Over and Over".
I expected so much more.... It was fine
the infamous double album after "Rumors". Considered a commercial failure at the time. also, it was the most expensive album to produce ever. they even rented out Dodger Stadium and paid the USC Marching band to record their performance to the title track. to me, it's OK, but i am the wrong person to ask. I do like the song "Never Forget" and "Sara".
I was UNBELIEVABLY excited when I saw this album pop up because this is a top 5 album that I've been wanting to listen to some time that I never did. I knew I would be disappointed, and I was. None of the songs pop. I blame Buckingham since he wanted a simple stripped down sound, compared to his unbelievably talented artistry he did as a producer on Rumors with the layers, textures, etc. It just makes all the songs sound incomplete, uninspired, and half-assed. I like complex pop rock Fleetwood Mac, not this simplistic almost country Fleetwood Mac. Buckingham's songs are the worst, but really McVie's and Nicks' aren't all that much better. The album feels like a collection of solo songs thrown together. But what's ironic is they all released a solo album after this, and the songs on all THREE solo records are better than what they contributed here! Check out Buckingham's "Trouble", Nicks' "Edge of Seventeen" and McVie's "Got a Hold On Me". All 10/10. All in all though, even the worst of Fleetwood Mac is better than most music haha, so still give it a 3 star.
So, I like Fleetwood, but this album is a bold follow-up to "Rumors" and IMO not such a good one. Some songs are good, others mediocre. It's an eclectic mix of experimental tracks.
This is a sprawling album with moments of brilliance, but it lacks cohesion. It feels disconnected and jumbled, possibly because the band was falling apart at the time. I easily connected with all of the Stevie Nicks songs, especially “Sisters of the Moon.” The rest of the album was very much hit or miss. I think this is an album that needs multiple listens to truly appreciate.
Say 178 The problem with this album is that it’s impossible not to compare it to Rumours which is kinda like thinking Michaelangelo is shit for not painting anything as good as the Sistine Chapel. Highlights Sara Not that Funny
I found this a little bit too relaxing, and had to fight to stay awake and focused on it. It's all very lovely and peaceful and wistful. I mean, it's no Rumours, but then what is. I could have done with a bit more life in this one.
A few enjoyable tracks but others seem dated. Not bad.
Can't say that this really stayed with me at all. Seemed less arresting than Rumours, a bit more settled perhaps?
BEST SONGS: - Think About Me - Storms - That's All for Everyone
Great album to just put on and relax.
Really want a condensed version of this. Some excellent songs and then so much nonsense that sounded like MIDI versions of instruments off an Encarta '97 cd-rom. 2.5
This was kind of strange compared to what I expected, not necessarily in a bad way, just a readjustment. I enjoyed a lot of it but it was So Much - I think I'd love the version of this album that is 35 minutes of my highlights.
All a bit one note
Less interesting than I hoped
It's alright, got a bit boring after a while but it's still alright. Favorite track: The Ledge
Horn.
Eh.
Pretty good tuff but not as good as Rumours, half of the songs here are kinda boring though it's still pretty good
Alright album. Not one of Fleetwood macs best.
Ehhh....
Had some cool tunes, Lindsay Buckingham really is an underrated guitarist, but you can hear the cocaine and excess.
Fácil de escuchar. Por momentos se vuelve largo y las canciones empiezan a sonar iguales. NO es un 3, es un 3,5
Not my thing
didn’t hate it also didn’t like it
I don't play golf, never have. When I was in high school my dad gave me a ticket to a golf tournament in our town. It was a nice day and I didn't have anything else to do, so I went. I thought I might see some pretty girls. When I got there, I fell in with a group of spectators, and followed them to a green (for other non-golfers, that is where the "hole" is - the target the golfers golf at). Not 30 seconds after I arrived at the spectator boundary, I see a ball rolling across the green and plop directly into the hole. Oohs and aahs all around, I look back to the gentleman who made the shot understandably excited, dancing and high fives &tc. It was a "hole in one" which is one of the best things you can do in golf and apparently pretty rare. I knew enough about golf to know this. At that point, I clapped and then turned and walked back to the parking lot and left the course. I don't remember what I did next, but I knew that it was all downhill from there - I could spend all day following those guys around and would definitely not see anything like that again. Tusk is sort of like if I would have stayed for the rest of the tournament. Not unpleasant, a good walk perhaps, but nothing like what came before it.
I never really understood what made Fleetwood Mac so incredibly popular, and even got or why they got the highest rating on this list for their album "Rumours". I've always found them bland, middle-of-the-road, radio-friendly pop, but nothing that stood out in particular. Maybe that 's why. This album doesn't change my opinion much, and apart from the Stevie Nicks songs (in particular "Sara" and "Sisters of the Moon") or "That's All for Everyone" (which should be the last track on a single album instead of a double), there is nothing that really stands out. And the ones that do ("The Ledge", "Save Me a Place", "Not That Funny" (sic), and "Tusk") are just horrible. The production is terrible too - where are the drums on "Sara"? - especially considering regarding the fact that they had the equivalent of today's $3 million+ to spend. The album could have been much more consistent if they didn't give Buckingham so much room to experiment, instead allowing him to make a solo record, and shortened this tedious listen to 10 songs. I'm not entirely sure what to give this record, but I guess, due to Stevie Nicks' contributions, 3 stars instead of 2. 3/5
Just seems like it was phoned in. Not nearly as good as previous albums
It’s ok…some decent tracks. Too long. Not nearly as good as their pre-pop phase.
This one didn’t inspire me at all and I love Rumours. This just felt bland.
7/10, favorite song: Think about me
7 albums to go - let’s go!
All of the boring parts of Fleetwood Mac personified Best Song: Storms Rating: 5/10 Stars: 3
This felt so much longer than it needed to be. Maybe I would've benefitted from multiple listens. There were some good songs on here but the tracklist order made them all feel disconnected from each other
As if the absolute hell of recording Rumours wasn't enough, they decided they were gonna go back to do it all again but DOUBLE the length. The coke must have been well nice. This album is just way way way too long. Some of the tracks are very nice, but half of them are so forgettable that their inclusion makes no sense. It's a solid album with a bunch of B-Sides. Also they were trying not to do a Rumours 2 but something more experimental?? This sounds like Rumours 2 lol. But I gotta mention Tusk. That is one of the sickest horn arragements I have ever laid my ears upon 6.5 / 10 Best track/s: Sara, Tusk, Sisters of the Moon
Tusk and Sara save this from being a 2. Definite drop off from the prior two albums.
While The White Album is the obvious comparison for a fragmenting band’s bloated response to their career highlight, I’m reminded more of the four KISS solo albums that were released in one day. You could put them altogether if you wanted, but it would just sound - as Tusk does - like a demo reel sent to the producer to select a record from. But, then, no one makes the selection: partly because of the success of the previous record, partly because the band is falling apart and no one wants to be upset by the fact that there is a good Stevie Nicks EP within. Despite the length of rope granted them by success, despite the coke flying around, Tusk doesn’t sound indulgent or extravagant. The production choices sound oddly lo-fi - maybe even shit. The songwriting from Buckingham especially feels slap-dash, whereas the other continue on, deserving of solo careers. Camper Van Beethoven re-recorded the whole album in 2003, as a reunion experiement. Listening to what could be done with a band that wanted to be together and work together doesn’t help much. No one in Camper Van Beethoven is Stevie Nicks or Christine McVie. But, neither do they have to put up with Lyndsey Buckingham, who seems like a piece of work. It is a more coherent, better sounding record, but it is still a victim of the circumstances by which it was allowed out into the world. Camper Van Beethoven didn’t even like Tusk. They likened it to The Magnificent Ambersons, which is praised, while being deeply flawed. However, The Magnificent Ambersons - which, they’re right is awful - is, on the surface, awful because of studio interference, where they tried to cut it into something marketable. With Tusk, there’s no sense that anything has been cut together or assembled at all, no sense that anything should be presented to the listener, let along the market. 3 It is a commonplace to compare Tusk with the White Album. I can understand the temptation of that comparison - a contrarian, relatively uncommercial double-album to vent the pressure following a mega-seller - but it simply doesn’t fit beyond that superficial observation. Lindsey Buckingham’s supposed ‘experiments’ and daring in the studio don’t come close to the strangeness of Wild Honey Pie or Helter Skelter or even Why Don’t We Do it in the Road?, never mind Revolution 9. Much is made of ‘The Ledge’. Aye, the guitar is a wee bit out of tune - watch out Stockhausen. In my opinion there is more of Let it Be about Tusk. Subdued, languorous, still very pretty but essentially unfocused. I put the vinyl record on the hifi last night just to confirm again that the recording itself sounds absolutely terrible. Apparently Fleetwood Mac looked at the state of rock music in 1979 and calculated that self-sabotage in the studio was their best shot at being relevant. I am always impressed that it cost over a million dollars to sound this poor. That said, I am always impressed; Stevie Nicks steals the show, as usual, with the magical, meandering gloom of Sara, Storms, and Beautiful Child. Some of her best work. Christine McVie simply picks up where she left off on Rumours, seemingly oblivious to the others’ need to go deeper or weirder. Over and Over, Brown Eyes, Never Make Me Cry… nice. Very nice. Buckingham is irritating, but even he manages to contribute album highlights - the title track and Walk a Thin Line. On Tusk Fleetwood Mac are, in the end, try as they might, just unable to escape being good songwriters. Even the terrible artwork can’t scupper them. 3.5/5
Very long instrumentals but a classic with it being Fleetwood Mac
Bien
very recognisable sound
While I like Lindsey buckinghams voice, in this album, the majority of songs I liked were Stevie songs. Still a beautiful album!
Very excited to listen to this one, I love Fleetwood Mac. I prefer their older stuff, I have to say. Fav song is ‘Think About Me’.
eu salvei algumas músicas mas não me vejo escutando esse álbum de novo, não me despertou o interesse
Cool!
I find this album interesting, it was released two years after Rumors but is forgettable as a whole. Every song is alright but nothing that feels up to the standard of their previous album.
Classic "album after the historic smash album" album...good, fine, sounds a little different. I really like "Save Me a Place", sounds like a late 70s Beach Boys tune that I can hear Carl Wilson cooking....n fact, there are a few tracks that remind me of the late 70s Beach Boys. Not as overproduced as "Rumours", has its moments but overall feels more like a solidly good album that takes the pressure off of "how do you follow THAT up?" than it does an album I would seek out. Double album maybe a little indulgent too but I guess indulgence was kinda just their get down. Another 3.5 for me, but I'll round down because something about Lindsay Buckingham is intermittently annoying.
Fairly steady throughout, no true standouts. Not their best work, but enjoyed. Favorite song: Sisters of the Moon Ideal listening situation: slow day at work getting busy work done Would I Relisten: not something I’d seek out
Some good songs. I like Rumors better.
Zuhause, Gerstetten, Deutschland. Ganz okay.
Nicks and McVie really add so much value to this record. Buckingham is a good artist but his contributions take more time to settle. Still, there’s a lot to love on this record despite its shortcomings. I can recognize how ambitious this record is. I also thoroughly enjoy the lofi and indie nature of this, especially as a 70s record. I’d love to listen on vinyl.
not a bad album but nothing really special… rumors clears
Rumours is the most popular albums in the 1001 Albums You Must Hear Before You Die list, so I had high expectations for Tusk. Unfortunately, it never really clicked with me. I can tell it’s probably a good and important album, but to my ears it still feels very much like an oldies record. That might be because I don’t really grasp the social and cultural context of the time in the US and Europe when it was made.
Tusk is great. Rumors is greater.
Unfortunately, I think I only think of “Rumors” when I listen to Fleetwood Mac. That’s not fair to them or this album, but this one falls short of that perfection of “Rumors.” It’s enjoyable, but nothing special to my ear.
Was ok.
Ehhhhhhh. I'm honestly close to giving this a 2, but there are just enough decent ones to carry it over to a 3... But god is this too long. And a lot very uninteresting
A lot of very pleasant, enjoyable songs. And the title track was an interesting surprise! I was thinking about giving this a 4 but the album was way too long and also every song with Lindsey Buckingham on vocals was dogshit
I've never seen a band so carried by one member. I noticed a pattern about 5 tracks into the album: it seems to alternate between great and not good with every song. It led to me checking every song credits to ultimately witness a phenomenon where, anytime Stevie Nicks is on the mic, the band pulls together to sound like heaven; by contrast, any Lindsey Buckingham writing credit is just some bs (title track excluded). In essence I loved.... half of this album! Though the length is pretty intimidating for any future revisits. Standouts: Over&Over • Think About Me • Sara • Storms • Sisters of the Moon • Angel • Brown Eyes • Honey Hi • Tusk
Pretty ok album but god damn this does not change my opinion that most double albums need a hatchet taken to them. The entire second half of this album has completely passed by me without making an impact on two separate listens. Just let Stevie Nicks do her thing and give us 12 good songs.
alright now
A bit meh, thank god for Stevie Knicks and the song Tusk
Feels a bit like FM’s White Album. Coming from all directions at once. Some good tracks. Particularly like Tusk itself. Generally though, not enough to push it up another notch. 3.5
Some great, but mostly meh
I enjoy the female vocals on this album rather than the male vocals. And there are some mad drum solos on this album. Overall not bad, but not my favorite.
Didn't get to listen to it a 2nd time like I would've liked. My notes vanished. Will reassess but as of right now, it's a 3.
6.3
Would’ve been 5 stars but then that song jail bait came on. Pretty dusty lyrics from a 35 year old. Eww.
It’s hard for me to judge this one based on its own merits. I mean, come on… their last album was “Rumours”. So while I tried to put myself in a vacuum and be as objective as possible, it’s hard to imagine someone handing me this record and saying, “here you go, this is Fleetwood Mac”. That ALL being said, I have very mixed feelings on this album. While I think I get what they were trying to do… follow up strong with a huge double album and capitalize on the success of one of the greatest albums ever recorded, I think it falls short. There are some really good tracks, but the only real “hit” that reminds me of (and I’m losing my objectivity here) their previous work would be “Sara”. The rest is a mix of good to very good, with a little weird and even some WTF sprinkled in there. Some of the songs are just quirky, or have strange guitar and drum tones that left me wondering “why did they do that?”. I think this would have been a lot stronger as a single album, but still not in the “great” territory, and I do say that objectively.
Interessante Klänge und Stereo Effekte, im ganzen jedoch relativ unspektakulär.
I mean it's Fleetwood Mac so it's good but it's not their best. 1. Over and over- I love this song, no notes 2. The ledge- a fun one 3. Think about me- ye ok 4. Save me a place- boring 5. Sara- hell ye 6. What makes you think you're the one- meh 7. Storms- hell ye x2 8. That's all for everyone- I could take or leave 9. Not that funny- as above 10. Sisters of the moon- hell ye x3 11. Angel- hell ye on vocals but otherwise meh 12. That's enough for me- meh 13. Brown eyes- ok 14. Never make me cry- ok 15. I know I'm not wrong- ok 16. Honey Hi- meh 17. Beautiful child- hell ye ish 18. Walk a thin line- naw 19. Tusk- yaw 20. Never forget- yaw
Its certainly no Rumours.
This album was just okay to me - therefore 3/5. I love Fleetwood Mac, but this is one of their less popular albums.
🙂
No where near as good as rumours
theres some great songs but its long and sometimes repetitive
Interesting variety of sounds and styles but still somewhat bland in my taste.
I didn't like most of Buckingham's songs and it felt like nicks was doing a lot of the heavy lifting on this album. Would have probably been better if Buckingham hadn't contributed at all.
Couple of great songs, pleasant vibe overall
Some good some not great
A long, pointed tooth which has the purpose of attacking prey.
It’s cute
"I see the appeal, I would never take it away from anyone, but I would also never stand in line for it." It's a good album, nothing wrong with it and was great as background listening, but I honestly just don't find Fleetwood Mac particularly interesting, barring a couple of songs that aren't on this album.
++: Over & Over, The Ledge, Think About Me, Not That Funny, Sisters of The Moon, That's Enough for Me, Brown Eyes, I Know I'm Not Wrong, Tusk, Never Forget +: Save Me A Place, Sara, Storms, Walk a Thin Line +-: What Makes You Think You're the One, That's All for Everyone, Angel, Never Make Me Cry, Honey Hi, Beautiful Child 7,3/10
You can tell they were at the end of their chain here. Chain chain chain
Interesting how many of the reviews compare this to rumors... But also, I get it. I loved rumors and gave it a 5. Tusk is its own beast, interesting in different ways... And I can see why it wasn't as successful. It's definitely the weirder album, and I absolutely can believe what I've read about them basically being given free reign and a blank cheque, and deciding to get as far away from a follow up to rumors as they could. A broken and crashing out Fleetwood Mac deliver this weird album that doesn't have as much pop appeal, and doesn't feel anywhere near as cohesive... And it's a double to boot! It's a strange choice, but at the same time I understand it in a way... I wish I could give this more, but for me it earns a 3.
Well this is definitely an interesting mess of an album. I definitely can see the comparisons to The Beatles' White Album. Basically a tale of two albums honestly. Buckingham's terrible experimentation (such as on The Ledge) vs Nicks and McVie hard carrying this album on their backs (mostly Nicks, who wrote the best songs on this album, particularly Sisters of the Moon, but McVie has some solid cuts). It's funny reading Christgau's comments saying the opposite, but he couldn't be more wrong. Basically, the closer this album gets to sounding like Rumours is when its at its best.
It's pleasant and her voice is very smooth but it was too long and doesn't hold up to Rumours
Really was hoping to give this a better rating, 3 for me. Nothing really jumps out at me other than maybe one or two tracks
Certainly not my favorite by this band, but fine nonetheless. Good background music.
naislaulaja on raikas tuulahdus mitä nyt on tätä tonniykköstä kuunnellut. On myös muitakin vokalisteja. Mukavaa poljentoa.
decent album a bit slow but overall decent songs. love their vibe always
Ah, the long awaited followup to Rumours. I've listened to this album on multiple occasions and I've tried to like it, but i'm still struggling. There's good songs there for sure, I enjoy the title track a lot, but it's just too long and has too much excess that should be shaved down. There's a good album in there somewhere. I suppose I find it interesting enough to keep coming back to it, maybe one day I'll truly enjoy it. It's not Rumours though.
First time I’ve ever listened to a full FM album. It was pretty good! I don’t love the male vocals but the female ones are great.

If Fleetwood Mac’s self titled album was the honeymoon project and Rumors was the break up project, Tusk would definitely have to be the emotional rollercoaster that is the post-break up project detailing all the emotions of regret, anger, and of course loads of sadness. Out of all the musicians working on this project I'd argue this is mostly Lindsey Buckingham's magnum opus as a majority of the songwriting and vocal moments are her own and she really gets to shine in her own spotlight here unalike on some of Fleetwood Mac's other projects. Much like how most people act after a break up, this album is quite all over the place and never manages to really settle on a sound or mood for the entire project and really comes off as nothing short of sporadic. My favorite songs from this project have to be Think About Me, Sara, and Sisters of the Moon. While I appreciate how vulnerable all of Fleetwood Mac is being here, to say this was a bit of a chore to get through would be a bit of an understatement. It feels like a bunch of tracks thrown together and the only reason people see it as passable is because of the context in which this album lies in, and that works on me as well. There is no rhyme or reason to anything here in this tracklist, just a mix of good, great, and 2 decent songs that all are from the same band. I feel I would enjoy this more as a broken up selection of singles rather than a 1 hour and 13 minute album, but that is just me I guess. I don't get why people are so crazy about this album as it feels just as messy as all the band feuds just put into audio form. Oh well, glad I got it out of the way I guess...
Very slow and rather cheesy of Fleetwood Mac. It's an hour and fifteen minutes, and I think only about twenty of those minutes were Stevie Nicks. Definitely needs more Stevie Nicks.
I've mentioned before that I watched a lot of VH1 Behind the Music in the late 90s and early 00s, and the Fleetwood Mac episode was on frequently. I'm well aware of the soaps-opera lore of Fleetwood Mac, but I've never made myself delve all the way into this double album before. My first impression is that it's... a lot. Twenty tracks split between three different lead vocalists makes this feel more like a playlist than an album. FM was hardly a unified band by 1979 and this album lays that bare. I'm interested by all the talk of 'incorporating post-punk' to their sound here because I struggle to hear much of that in my first listen. Mostly, I hear a lot of lethargic/ethereal motifs that don’t make a huge impression. It’s an hour and fifteen minutes long, but after it’s over it doesn’t feel like it took that long. I guess that’s good? But it also means my brain immediately omitted a large portion of the album from memory. I appreciate them putting the title track, “Tusk”, second to last though, at least that track will stay fresh on my mind.
Eclectic and a little too folksy for me. I like their other stuff better
For being a double album, something entirely unnecessary, this is pretty good.
fine
Ledges was my favorite overall a nice listen
An album that somehow feels less than the some of its parts Has its moments but they’re stretched out over far too long a run time Never bad but never great either
Ganz okay, mir passiert aber zu wenig
Standouts Storms Sisters of the Moon Tusk
The best songs were Sara and Storms.
Very good, but a bit long. Many of the filler songs are just too.. silly? But the great songs are truly that
