Reviews (page 4 of 13)

Obviously not their finest album but still very listenable

I was more familiar with Rumors so it was cool to hear other stuff from FM. Tusk has been covered or sampled somewhere and I cannot figure it out…

so fun to hear, i will listen them more now

Not bad, just general rock music, better than Bowie’s station to station album. Reminds me of the mamas and the papas

I’ve always enjoyed Fleetwood Mac, and Stevie Nicks’ voice is undeniably iconic and instantly recognizable. While this isn’t my favorite Fleetwood Mac album overall, it does contain some real gems — “Sara” being a standout. From what I understand, Stevie wrote, co-produced, and sang lead vocals on that track, so it’s no surprise that it’s one of my favorites. That said, I personally found this album somewhat unhinged and scattered, largely due to Lindsey Buckingham’s heavy imprint on it. In my opinion, Fleetwood Mac might have benefited from parting ways with him much earlier than they did. Replicating the monumental success of Rumours was always going to be an impossible task, but I was still pleasantly surprised by Tusk, especially since this was my first time listening to it in its entirety. Ultimately, I’d give the album a 3.5, rounding up to a 4. I appreciated the creativity and ambition behind it, and I listened to it front to back — even if I didn’t always love Lindsey’s influence on the sound.

Not my favourite Fleetwood Mac album but it's up there. Can't listen to Tusk without thinking of the god damn walrus film though.

A really pleasant album for a Sunday afternoon. Plenty of talent and variety in the songs that I barely noticed it is a double album.

I absolutely loved it, nothing funny or clever to say about it. Just fantastic music imo

Cocaine, divorce and excess

Stevie carries this album. Pretty consistent for a double album. Sure it drags on a bit, but overall this is more peak-era Fleetwood Mac. The title track is one of my personal favorite Fleetwood songs. Sounds like it should be in a western movie. There are plenty of other bangers here too. This isn't an album that I would revisit often due to its length, but I'll definitely be returning to individual songs. Favorite track: Tusk

I came really close to giving Tusk a 3, but I just couldn't. The main thing that turned me off was some of its more "out-there" songs, such as "The Ledge", but its high points made up for its shortcomings in my mind. That being said, though, I still believe that it pales in comparison to Rumors. I still mainly enjoy Fleetwood Mac for their more mainstream soft rock songs, but Tusk is by no means a bad album in my opinion. "Angel" was the main song that stood out for me, I really enjoyed the lines "And to those that I love, like a ghost through a fog, Like a charmed hour and a haunted song". Favorite Song: "Angel"

Really enjoyed this one. Haven’t listened through rumours yet and apparently it’s a lot better than this so I have high expectations. Could hear a bit of beach boys on certain songs here which was cool.

Preferred the Nicks songs over the Buckingham songs. Still a good listen overall. Sara was the standout for me, really caught my ear and was an earworm for a bit. Liked hearing Fleetwood Mac do something different as well.

This wasn't half-bad. After reading about its production and recording I could recognise the creative powders involved in its birth. It's alright.

Love the sound of the guitars. Less fussed about the slower tracks. Standout Track: The Ledge

A solid album, but I don't think it deserves a slot in the Top 1001 unless we're comparing it to all the deeply Only-Popular-In-England crap I've been forced to listen to in recent weeks. A ton of songs but not a bad song on it... a bit overproduced/polished, and there's nothing ground breaking on it but it's all solid. The song "Tusk" is quite the departure from their 70's radio friendly rock but that one song doesn't get this album elevated to T1001 status in my book. "Sara" is a stand out. McVie's vocals on "Over & Over" and "Think About Me" are great, she could literally sing the phonebook and make it sound good. "That's All For Everyone" is a nice Buckingham track. I was digging "Sisters Of The Moon", "Angel" & "Beautiful Child" by Stevie are all good grooves. No wonder she went solo shortly afterwards. Again, really not a bad song on the whole album, I enjoyed it. Didn't break any ground I don't think, offered up a few big hits in the title track (126M listens) and "Sara" (116M), and a few well listened to tracks ("Storms", "Sisters...", "Think About Me", "Over & Over" & I Know I'm Not Wrong" which each have 20M-40M listens. I'd say the album was a touch on the mellow/slow side, but the songs were beautiful and well crafted. 4 stars for such a collection of solid songs, varied voices, great songwriting, and superior musicianship.

That's good, but if we compare, we know "Rumours" is better. But still deserves a 4star

charming

3.5 - Good

tusk olmasa 3

And the way it is, I could leave it all And I ask myself, would you care at all?

Album was a wonderful listen, never really listened to Fleetwood Mac as much so Tusk was really cool! I really liked the varying song selection, a very nice balance of slower ballad type songs along with fast/riff heavy rock. I’d listen to it again!

Another banger. Have already listened to Tusk previously, stellar album (nearly as good as Rumours imo).

8.3/10. Fleetwood Mac’s Tusk is a bold, beautiful , weird, experimental record and there’s much to say about it, I ended up enjoying it more than I thought I would, it’s been on my listening list for a while considering rumors is one of my favorite albums of all time, I love the Peter green era stuff as well & I’ve heard that people kinda love or hate this one so I put it on the backburner. To start most of Lindsey’s songs on here I am not a huge fan of, not to say that they are bad, but I feel like they are forgettable or lean towards being too experimental, but the title track kicks ass & I thought “that’s all for everyone” “walk a thin line” & “save me a place” were great too. Stevie’s vocals on several songs are some of her best yet especially on “Angel” (accompanied by a killer bass line) & “Sara” and I generally found her cuts to be the best on here. Overall, it’s a fascinating listen that rewards multiple re-listens, showcasing the band’s willingness to take risks while still delivering the melodic and typical Fleetwood Mac soft rock that we love. Looking forward to hearing many of these tracks again!

Probably sacrilege to many that this is my first Mac album. Title track is one of the weaker cuts off here honestly, which is surprising given how iconic it is, but to me it kinda feels a bit like a novelty, kinda aimless. Pretty great introduction to this band altogether though. Sisters of the Moon!

My first listen left me feeling like this must have been an overblown exercise in excess by Fleetwood Mac when they were at the height of their seventies popularity. All of the opening songs felt like over-the-top parodies of their hit songs. Then I read about the making of the album and realized that the excess was the message of this double album recorded after the success of Rumours. They were sending a message to their label and their fanbase -- and trying to keep in touch with what gave them their music in the first place. I read the fun article in The Independent: “Lindsey Buckingham on the wild story of Fleetwood Mac’s Tusk: ‘Everything got somewhat decadent’”. If you were wondering if they trucked in champagne and lobster to the studio while recording Tusk, then the answer is yes. My listening took a turn at the song “Sisters of the Moon.” This felt like an extension of Nicks’ and Buckingham’s earlier hits – but also different. Then I listened to “Too Funny” to see if there was really a White Stripes vibe and the college marching band-fueled title track. “Sometimes, the most beautiful things The most innocent things And many of those dreams, pass us by Keep passing me by.” – opening lyrics to “Angel” I’m grateful that I gave this album a second listen. I understand the timeline of Fleetwood Mac much more.

you can feel the energy in every track. loved the more rock tracks as well as the more relaxed track.

A really cool album to just sit and vibe to. I enjoyed a lot of tracks, more than I normally do on a random album. The tracks I found memorable include: Think About Me, Sara, What Makes You Think You're The One?, Sisters of the Moon, Angel, That's Enough For Me, I Know I'm Not Wrong, Beautiful Child, Tusk, Never Forget

No Rumors, but very good listen

Fleetwood Mac is a fantastic band that makes consistently solid music, it’s no Rumors but it’s still full of quality tunes

Listened Before: No White Album, Sandinista, Tusk...gotta love a long album of random music after a massive success. Found it mostly enjoyable, didn't think any songs were skips. I imagine it's pretty hard to follow up Rumors. 4/5

I really enjoyed this. I’m surprised it’s considered their flop post-Rumours. It’s great and includes hits like Sara. It’s not banger after banger like Rumours of course, and the Stevie songs are clear standouts. But still, this is a great record.

Fleetwood Mac's obligatory double album. This one doesn't quite hit as hard as Rumours or the (second) self-titled for me, being more of a White Album-esque grab bag of sounds than a unified whole. That said, it has enough highlights (Sara, Sisters of the Moon, Beautiful Child, and Tusk chiefest among them) for me to still rate it an easy 8/10.

Not my favorite Fleetwood Mac album, still incredible

Tusk is one of my favorite Fleetwood Mac songs. The rest of the album was chill, more subdued than their other work and didn't appeal to me as much

Favorite Track: Tusk

they don't really have bad albums :D

I love rumors so much; this album is entirely new to me. Some nice tracks, but not top to bottom bangers. I want to give it a 3 based on comparing it to Rumors, but I'm giving it a 4 in comparison to other albums on here. Highlights: storms, that's enough for me

8/10 Favorites: Sara Storms Never Make Me Cry Beautiful Child

I liked every second song, which is to say I liked the songs that Lindsey Buckingham didn’t write

Thought everyone hated this album

It’s admirable that they didn’t want to just make Rumours 2, but maybe they should have decided what to make instead before they spent over a million in 1970s money recording it. There are too many good songs for it to be a failure but it does sound a bit like a band with an identity crisis.

Classic

Really an interesting listen. It’s fascinating how different (more lo-fi, scrappier) the production is on this one relative to Rumours considering it came after. It feels very loose, like there was creative lightning bouncing around the room and they were running around with a bottle. There’s a lot to love here, but it also feels strange and disjointed. Maybe a reflection of the bands inner workings at the time, I’m not sure. Heading for Wikipedia after this. Love the big pop energy of ‘What Makes You Think You’re the One’, ‘Sara’ is gorgeous, ‘Never Make Me Cry’ lives in a brilliant space. Guitar tones (direct to desk?) are wild, drums are insanely dead yet everything feels very alive. It’s natural to compare this with Rumours, which is unfair on any band’s best day, and it doesn’t live up to that, but it does occupy this really cool space and I’ve already listened to the record twice with more sure to come.

Classic

8/10… yacht rock / 70s pop / *1979

Loved a couple of songs

Fleetwood Mac has an undeniable style. Thats half of what makes a band great, just being able to hear a bit of their music and have no doubt its them.

Jag är svag för det välproducerade, lite murriga, 70-talet. Väldigt välljudande rakt igenom. Bäst i midtempo-låtarna med McVie och Nicks, till exempel inledande Over and over, Angel, Sara, Storms och Sisters of the moon.

I couldn’t find this album in Spotify

i love fleetwood mac

This album is like a gut punch (complimentary).

I've heard this album before, but not a lot. I've been in a Fleetwood Mac kinda mood lately though. Spent an evening last week just watching old performances on Youtube. This is at least a 4, maybe even a 5. Plus, if I give this a good score, maybe Stevie Nicks will tell me she loves me.

Good enough, but it's hard to be Fleetwood Mac and have to improve on Rumours.

I have mixed feelings about this album. On one hand, It's Fleetwood Mac. On the other, some songs themselves lack a quality that would make me look forward to listening to them. It's a 75% chance the song isn’t memorable and a 25% chance it's phenomenal.

Great album, very chilled rock

4 out of 5. I daresay this is better than Rumors. Also found out I could shoot my fingernails like bullets as I listened. How bizarre.

Would have given it 4.5 if that was an option. Lindsey and Christine sings the first several then Stevie comes in like an angel with Sara. Great

never seen this one i think.

I LOVEEEE FLEETWOOD MAC but I don’t love this album lol

good album

Not my favorite of theirs, but still some great songs.

Not bad, pretty groovy.

Listened to a lot of Fleetwood Mac, but noticed I don't recognise a single track on this album! Clearly not listened to a lot of Fleetwood Mac. Really somber opening with "Over & Over", straight into a lively lead bass track that has a fun energy to the delivery of the lyrics in The Ledge. Already, this feels like a departure from the typical Fleetwood Mac album of prominent lyrics back by light - but still serious - instrumental ensemble. "What makes you think I'm the One" sounds like it could have been a Queen song, with Lindsey Buckingham really sounding like Freddie in his delivery of the line that is the same as the song's title; that same punchy attitude that Freddie would have used to match the question being asked. "It's not that Funny" reminds me more of David Bowie, with the fuzzy guitar songs and the subtly angry lyrics. It's clear that, around this time, Fleetwood Mac were doing a lot to experiment with their sound, which is always encouraged. The tone of the album as a whole seems to flip backwards and forwards from being quite melodramatic to playfully aggressive; "That's all for Everyone" before this track dreamily delivered by Buckingham. "Sisters of the Moon" at the albums halfway line has near-Pink Floyd epicness with it's closing guitar solo; easily one of my favourite tracks so far. "Brown Eyes" brings everything down again with a steady bassline, dreamy lyrics and soft drums; another favourite. Appreciated how different this was to Rumors (1977) before it. Despite this, at 20 tracks long, this felt like a drag towards the end, which is a shame, considering it's most 'iconic track', "Tusk", is second from the end.

I too expected a little more from this. Fleetwood Mac can definitely not make bad music, but this was not a focused record. Lots of way different ideas without any cohesion in sound or lyrics. Sounds amazing, some easy 10/10 songs, but altogether a mid to low 4 star

7/10. Stevie Nicks's songs are luminous, but otherwise, I'm not hearing much that's interesting. It's hard to go wrong with Fleetwood Mac, but why this album instead of the self-titled album?

Bra denne. Ikke deres beste, men fin. Som de andre FM, så blir de bedre med tida. Sikkert en femmer i min fremdtid, denne.

Always a pleasure to listen to her voice. 4.5

wtf this is so much better than rumours, feels so much more spontaneous and fun and genuinely creative Fav song: Think About Me maybe

Like most double album, this would have been a single LP on par with the previous two if they trimmed out some of the coked out Lindsey Buckingham tunes. That being said, I Walk a Thin Line is the album highlight for me.

very chill, distinct sound on this album compared to some of their biggest hits. feels very influential of modern folky pop

Messy, all over the place stylistically, but still really damn good. There's something really charming about this project, I'll have to give it another listen in the future to form a real solid opinion on it, simply because there's a lot to unpack with this one, but still really damn good. Not the direction you would've thought they'd go in after their hit album 'Rumours'

Ganske bra.

Great album. I like the one where they turn into a marching band.

Par contre j’ai adoré That’s All for Everyone, qui faisait fortement penser à Deerhunter. Mais bon, encore un album double qui ne mérite pas de l’être! Difficile de couper quand on a des gros egos!

Very pretty!

Good but Rumours exists

Pretty good vibe.

Not my favorite Fleetwood Mac recorb but still really good

I’ve never listened to this album fully but it was a really enjoyable listen

Didn’t touch me as Rumors but still good, maybe A little bit too long. Stevie Nicks is absolutely fabulous. I love her.

Veel beter dan ik had gedacht. Mooie liedjes en goede teksten. Merk echter wel dat mijn aandacht snel wegdrijft omdat het rustige en harmonieuze muziek is...

“Cocaine Blizzard”

sisters of the moon storms

This is zchön. Gid sicher na besseri fleetwood burger albums. Darum gömmer mal mit 4 sterblis driii

Well they made their Sgt. Peppers so it’s only fair they can make their White Album. While this is definitely not as good as Rumours it does a good job of showing the range of the band. I think the Stevie led songs are a lot of my favorites here. Favorites were Over And Over, The Ledge, Sara, Sisters Of The Moon, Angel, That’s Enough For Me, Beautiful Child, and Tusk.

Not my favorite FM album but undeniably something I could put on anytime and not be unhappy with the decision.

Beautiful album. Really highlights everything great about Fleetwood Mac. Great album, excellent production, distinct quality and performance from the 3 singers and songwriters.

Fleetwood Mac – Tusk (1979) It’s hard not to judge Tusk through the lens of Rumours. That record is so tight, so perfectly sculpted, that anything following it was bound to feel a little unmoored. Tusk isn’t trying to recreate that magic—it’s what happens when a band at the top of the world decides to dismantle the machine just to see what makes it tick. There’s brilliance in the chaos. The title track is wild and unhinged in the best way—marching drums, manic vocals, the feeling that the whole thing could fall apart at any second but somehow doesn’t. It’s a reminder that Lindsey Buckingham was chasing something raw and alive, even if it wasn’t always pretty. Sara, on the other hand, is Stevie Nicks at her most hypnotic—hazy, poetic, and wistful. You don’t understand the song so much as drift through it. It’s the emotional heartbeat of the album. The rest of Tusk meanders between the inspired and the indulgent. There are great moments scattered throughout, but the record doesn’t hit the same emotional through-line as Rumours. It’s a fascinating, ambitious work, just not a cohesive one. Still, you can’t help but admire the audacity—it’s Fleetwood Mac refusing to become a museum piece, choosing restlessness over repetition. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Really good. I can tell they're trying hard to sound different, and they do sound a lot different, but it's definitely the same band. Songs are a bit more focused at times. Great album.

Bueno, catchy pero se me hizo largo. Muchos temas filler

Have only heard a few songs on this one. Did not have any opinions on this going into listening and I enjoy the experimental nature of it. I expect to grow a greater liking to this with additional listenings.

Album 14. Tusk — Fleetwood Mac (1979) I fucking love Fleetwood Mac so much. And I almost don’t know their songs except the hits. Happy to get this album to listen. So many great songs, sooo many. It's not "Rumours" and it's not a failed album. It's Tusk, It's Fleetwood Mac. 4/5 —————————————— Liked: — Sara — Storms — Sisters of the Moon — Task — Never forget

Definitely interesting, memorable, but it does feel like a collection of ideas and not an album. There's a reason that there's not a track on this album that comes to mind when you think off Fleetwood Mac's collection. It's good, but definitely not great.

Liked this

Gänsehaut durch Storms; lächelnde Zufriedenheit durch Sara, That’s all for everyone, Sisters of the moon, that’s enough for me, brown eyes, I know I’m not wrong, honey hi, walk a thin line, tusk.

Mein Grundproblem mit denen: Ich finde nahezu alles, was Stevie Nicks singt, grandios.

Really did not expect the follow-up to Rumours to be this lo-fi honestly, even after reading about how it was like the Smiley Smile to Rumours' Pet Sounds. When I saw that this was here and their self-titled wasn't, I was a bit disappointed, but I think getting to see a version of Fleetwood Mac I didn't really know existed more than makes up for that.

I was surprised to learn that I was already familiar with a lot of the songs on this album. Overall it's a great album, but I still prefer the live version of the title track.

This was a pretty good album but not my favorite Fleetwood Mac album

Love the vibes! Very calming, upbeat at points. Appreciate the voices too, first album on here that I saved multiple songs of.

Soooo.......to be completely honest I only made it about halfway through this album before I got kind of bored and forgot to finish it. Not that the album was boring or anything because there were actually some really good songs. "Over & Over" set a pretty high bar in my opinion, but some of the songs just felt very out of place here. I really liked the ones that Stevie sang, though. I love Fleetwood Mac. I really, really do. A lot of these songs felt very Fleetwood Mac-y, like the exact same vibe and style as my favorites. Others were decidedly not, to the point that I was sitting there thinking, "Hmmm, you know, listening to this song and knowing it was by the same band that produced "Silver Springs" KIND OF degraded your whole musical career in my mind. Disappointing." But I digress. I must say that it was definitely interesting to be exposed to a new Fleetwood Mac album. It's always nice to broaden the scope a little bit.

Enjoyed Tusk - definitely not rumors but it’s grown on me.

This is one of their best

Underrated

Following up rumours with another rumours would have been an impossible task. I’m glad they did something quite different because this album has so much to uncover with every listen and much more variety in song type.

Loved most of this album, though not the best reviews at the time

7.5/10 Favourite: Tusk Least Favourite: What Makes You Think You're the One

On first listen it’s certainly not the masterpiece that Rumours is. However this is stuffed with great songs. Maybe a bit too long. 4/5

Did not know this was a double album. Many hidden gems like Storms, plus the big, big hits Sara and Tusk.

Not my favorite Fleetwood Mac album, but still a good one. Obvious star is the album’s namesake song. 4*.

the golden ratio

Really good, fun listen

Do you need to beware of all the behind the scenes drama from this band in order to really appreciate this album and the one that came before it? All I know is that there is drama but I have no idea what any of it is. I have gochujang under my fingernails, Redzone on mute, and this album playing through a sub par speaker.

Some recognizable tracks - dad says this is Lindsay at his best! Chill fall driving and walking vibes

Ei parasta Fleetwood Macia mutta silti erinomaista.

This album has the same vibes as a nuclear fallout zone and I say that with nothing but love and affection. It also has a wonderful music score and singing to die for. I love this one.

A classic albeit schizophrenic double album. Features some of the best, smooth FM pop that Mac would create, mixed with a collection of raw "unfinished demo" sounding tracks from Lindsey Buckingham. I prefer the open, relaxed, less slick, production style of this album over their previous two records. These songs breathe more and feel more spontaneous. Lindsey's tracks, while short and rough, are super catchy. I prefer listening to this album over "Rumours." Strength: not overproduced. Weakness: disjointed Favorite songs: "Sara" and "I Know I'm Not Wrong" Rating: 4/5

I love Fleetwood Mac but I had never listened to this album before. Very glad I did! It’s a little different in a lot of ways than Rumours, but a lot of their creative risks (to me) paid off. Stevie’s songs in particular stand out to me, along with the title track.

Really enjoyed Tusk, my first Fleetwood Mac album (I know, I know). Quite glad to have been removed from its context, for me it was a very solid double album that carries an Americana infused soft rock and slightly arty folk vibe which has definitely inspired some music I love (Angel Olsen, Alex G), solid 4 for me!

Not as good as Rumours, and it could use some editing...it's a little too long and a couple of these songs could easily be deleted to make a much better album. But it's still a great one.

Classic

It's a bit bloated and I wish there were a handful of songs trimmed. However, this was the first record I ever owned and holds a special place in my heart. Some of my favorite Fleetwood Mac songs are on here (Storms, Sara, Never Forget). 8/10

Honestly pretty good! There’s a lot here, and it doesn’t really have the coherent feel of an album, but a lot of the individual songs are enjoyable. My rating of singers/songwriters would be: McVie Buckingham Nicks Everything has a bit of an unpolished/rushed feeling (ie clipping on some tracks). Underneath that though the songwriting and instrumentation is really solid. Standout Tracks: Over & Over, Sara, Sisters of the Moon 5/5 deserves to be on this list

Tusk is probably my favourite song of theirs, thoughI would have first heard stuff from Tango In The Night which my parents played when I was growing up. Not every experiment on here works by any stretch of the imagination but it's a solid record and rivals Rumours for me. I particularly enjoyed What Makes You Think You're the One, Sisters of the Moon and Beautiful Child.

I adore this album. While other Mac albums have bigger hits, this is the one that feels the most like what I imagine being in the band was like at this time. Tired. Too high. Lost. But filled with an arrogance and drive to keep going bigger. It's not as much fun as others, but feels more honest and like the end of the 70s than almost any other album out there.

80/100. A classic, some of my favorite Fleetwood Mac work is on this. Soft, beautiful, with great storytelling.

I always had it in my mind that Tusk was a bad album and its only good song was the title track. I was entirely wrong, this was great. I still think it doesn’t warrant being a double album, and feels a tad self-indulgent as a result, but there’s some great moments here and Christine McVie in particular really gets her chance to shine on this record. So yeah, it’s good. Tusk!

Aall the power to you if you want to write something that sounds completely different from Rumours. Just don't be surprised if people think it doesn't sound as good, and when those same people constantly make comparisons to Rumours and earlier beloved Fleetwood Mac records. The Mac gang definitely made this sound different from earlier endeavours, essentially abandoning the "lovey atmosphere with sniping lyrical remarks" theme of Rumours. We still get the sniping, but now the atmosphere is all over the place. From beautiful, powerful ballads like Sara, Beautiful Child, and Sisters of the Moon, to the brisk, semi-tribal feel of the title track, to the drug-inspired country nonsense of That's Enough for Me, to the confusing semi-rockabilly(??) of What Makes You Think You're the One. Every track is incredibly distinct from the last. And for a record boasting 20 tracks, that's pretty impressive. The Nicks and McVie tracks really are a breath of fresh, ethereal, magical air amidst the heavily Buckingham-dominated interim tracks. Sara is absolutely stellar as a side 1 closer, and Sisters of the Moon is a spectacular, beautiful way to end the first disc. But that's not to slander Buckingham's songs – at least, not too much. They're fine, they're solid. His first appearance on Tusk is in The Ledge, which is a frantic, almost crazed nod to punk and post-punk influence. Not That Funny is another overtly punkish track, featuring a slew of shouted vocals and simple, rough, distorted guitar playing. But the quality isn't *quite* consistent enough to warrant a perfect rating from me. There's a ton of good material here, but also a ton of less interesting stuff that, while unique, isn't as grabbing – mostly due to either melody or Buckingham's weirdly unhinged persona. 4/5 Key tracks: Sara, Storm, That's All for Everyone, Sisters of the Moon, Tusk

Enjoyable listen.

some gems here

Highlight Song/s: Think About Me, Storms and Beautiful Child I saw that new album today was a Fleetwood Mac album, my stomach dropped a little. I then found out the length of the album, my stomach dropped further. But honest to god it wasn't that bad, Rumours had tainted my perception a little. Yes, still overly ballad-y and soft. But a lot more digestible - even thought it is a double album - than the aforementioned album. And it most likely has to do with Lindsay Buckingham and his insistence on Tusk not being Rumours 2. Which is quite funny as the songs he was on predominately was the reason I didn't like Rumours; and made it a forgettable album altogether. Some other thoughts: The album has such a good atmosphere, and solid sombre tone to it (on majority of the songs.) Lindsay's voice is a lot more tolerable than on Rumours. I am a fan of the drums sound on the album.

This album is slick and a mess at the same time. To me, that’s its charm. There’s so much going on here, and it all hits. You can hear a lot of the sound that dominated indie rock in the 2010s here. I don’t know if this is my favorite Fleetwood Mac album, but it’s the most fun. Standout Track(s): Think About Me, Sara, I Know I’m Not Wrong, Honey Hi

Changed my mind this shit is great.

Heard very little fleetwood mac before, other than the most popular songs. This seems more folky. I like it

Sehr schönes Fleedwood-Mac-Album, auch wenn es nicht an "Rumors" herankommt. Es fehlen die richtigen "Hits".

There was a time during my student days when I played Tusk (the song, not the album) over and over again. In my opinion, it's one of the best Fleetwood Mac songs.

This album was unexpectedly intense. Not “enjoyable” so much as I was taken on a trip. “Rumours” is the only album I think most of us are overly familiar with and while I like to think I grew up with Fleetwood Mac, I most certainly didn’t grow up with this album.

First time listening to a full Fleetwood Mac album, it was a wonderful vibe and was groovy and relaxing the whole way through. It had moments I wanted to skip but overall it was a great album

Thaaaaaaat's the good stuff. Maybe a little disjointed? Still great.

We're certainly cooking, just not sure it's quite with gas yet.

A couple of the soft rock songs are bleh but everything else is really good.

The Apple Music summary made me think this was going to be totally wild and not sound like Fleetwood Mac, but it definitely does sound like them. Maybe at the time it somehow sounded crazy? Idk, but I ended up really liking it a lot. And I really love the cover!! 5/5 for that alone.

I hadn't listened to much Fleetwood Mac before now, but I'm pleasantly surprised by this album. The Blues-Rock style in this music is pretty relaxing to listen to.

Simply not the same caliber as Rumours, but is still a great album where LB shines.

Some bangers on here, some fillers, some brain rot too. That solo at the end of Sisters Of The Moon, mind. Phwoar. A sturdy 4.0/5.0 Best Song: Sisters Of The Moon

Better than Rumours IMO, its just so many bangers in a row. Personal fav is The Ledge, a me and Eva CLASSIC that.

This is excellent. Love Fleetwood Mac. I don't think it rises all the way to the level of Rumors, and it does feel a bit overstuffed. Would happily return to this any time.

Typischer Fleetwood Mac Sound. Schöner Pop/Rock. Gut zum entspannt hören. 4/5

Tusk will forever be the album after Rumours. Surpassing or even leveling that album was difficult, difficult but not impossible. After Dark Side Of The Moon, Pink Floyd produced Wish You Were Here, which still causes a big debate among fans for their greatest album. With Tusk however, there is no debate, Rumours is simply better, but that doesn't mean Tusk is bad by any means. For most other bands (many even included in this list) Tusk would easily have been their magnum opus. It is very much deserving of praise on its own.

Tusk – Fleetwood Mac (1979) | Rock | Avg: 6.97 | Favorite Song: “Sara” Fleetwood Mac’s Tusk is one of those albums that feels like a creative unraveling—sometimes stunning, sometimes uneven, but always fascinating to witness. Based on the song ratings, there’s a strong mid-album core where “Sara” clearly stands out with its lush, haunting beauty. It’s the kind of track that reminds you why this band could still hit emotional high notes even while going off the rails creatively. Surrounding tracks like “Storms,” “Sisters of the Moon,” and “Beautiful Child” also hold up well, suggesting a more atmospheric and reflective side to the album that’s easy to get lost in. That said, there’s a clear inconsistency throughout the runtime. A handful of songs hover in the 5 to 6 range, which brings the overall energy down and makes the album feel bloated at times. It’s not that these tracks are bad, but rather that they pale next to the highlights. You can really feel Lindsey Buckingham’s experimental edge rubbing up against Stevie Nicks’ and Christine McVie’s more melodic tendencies, and the push-pull can be both compelling and chaotic. Overall, Tusk is an ambitious project that doesn’t always stick the landing, but when it does, it’s magic

When looking through this tracklist, I was surprised to find that I didn’t recognise any song titles. Then again, I didn’t recognise half of Rumours from titles alone, so though perhaps I’d recognise some of the actual songs. Once again, I was surprised as I found no tracks here that I’ve heard before. I did enjoy this, but I can completely understand why Rumours was the bigger album. Musically, it sounds very similar, just less strong. Although, Rumours was literally perfect so that’s a high bar to beat.

Саме цей альбом я, здається, ніколи й не слухав. Дуже різноманітний, можливо затягнутий, але мені було цікаво. Ще й обкладинка топ.

This album is great, like really great. But my God is it long. But all the songs are good and different from each other and kinda sounds different from other Fleetwood Mac songs, at least to me it does. But all the songs are good so the album being **20 SONGS AND 74 MINUTES LONG** can be a little excusable. I'll most likely listen to this album many times again.

Very very good. This album has a surprisingly high hit rate given its length, and I typically groan at double albums. But I enjoyed this a lot and continued to listen to it throughout the day. Only reason it’s not a 5 is that there are some songs I don’t care for. Must-listen #198.

A bit too experimental for my taste but classic nonetheless.

A pleasant folk rock mix

Not my favorite of theirs but still a great album!

Good album. 3.5

Awesome album! I feel like once you get past the first few tracks, it really hits its stride and is mostly really strong the rest of the way through. No surprise, the Stevie Nicks-led songs steal the show. Best Track: Storms

Love this album

Classic rock but not my personal taste

Pretty good. Great couple of tracks

A very pleasant listen, with the experimental edge resonating most. There’s a punkish energy here that I loved, even though the lyrical ballads were beautiful too. At times it felt incoherent, but that unpredictability made it special.

You know there's a lot of snippiness about this album which is really not merited. Most bands who go the distance have a baggy double in their catalogue. There are at least four gold-plated pop singles, some experiments and generally a strong set of songs. Don't listen to it all at one go - don't listen to The White Album in one sitting either - but surely there's only so many times you can listen to Rumours?

3.8 some good stuff there

There was rumours..

A couple of amazing songs (Tusk the song is a masterpiece) but a fair bit of whiny stuff there too.

"How are the tenders, Johnny?" Oh man, when I rolled Tusk to start the day, I was so thrilled to do a deep dive on it. I had only ever heard the titular song before, “Tusk”, and while that’s still my favorite song on the album at the end of the day, now I’ve gone and found “Sisters of the Moon”, which is just incredible in its own right. This album is a lot, both length wise and, well, everything else wise as well. Tusk had the literally impossible task of following Rumours. Everyone knows how good that album is, I don’t need to tell you about it. The public wasn’t very kind on Tusk, but again, how could they be? It followed Rumours. For better or worse, this album still kicks ass in its own right. It’s got a great mix of ups and downs. A lot of the songs don’t connect with themselves very well, which is apparent right out of the gate. That’s part of the “for better or worse” aspect. Some songs rock, others are beautiful, a few aren’t all that great, a few are GOD like. Is it the perfect album? No. Far from it. For the third time, it’s not Rumours, but man I hope more people discover this one and really try to appreciate it for what it is, because it’s still really really good. Bonus points for the album art. Random picture of a dog biting someone’s leg on a beige background with a bunch of dots, and just a teeny tiny “tusk” randomly placed towards the top left. Perfect.

12/08/25 afternoon 4/5 Went into this not recognising or knowing the album at all, but had high hopes due to it being by Fleetwood Mac. Highlights of the album were 'Over & over' and 'Sara' specifically due to my affinity for the guitar. This is a double album, and whereas my interest would usually be kept I felt it waning as the album dragged on a bit. I particularly enjoyed the vocals and guitar. Whilst the album is experimental in nature, I still was able to sit in and relax in the music without feeling like I was being thrown about between songs.

Okay it’s not Rumours but it’s very very good. My main complaint is that it’s a bit long so feels like a bit much of a similar vibe. Still just a great album and one I’ll listen to again. Fav song: The Ledge - although there are a lot that could’ve been my fav. Least fav: Sara

It feels like they all agreed they didn't want to just make a second Rumours album but they couldn't agree exactly how to make it different. In many ways the incohesiveness adds to the drama of the album, almost like you can see them all struggling to work together post break ups and affairs but as much as I love some good gossip it's not all that's needed to make an album 5*s. So so many great individual songs but objectively it's just not as good as Rumours. Favourite song: The Ledge Least: Thats All for Everyone

Sara, You're The Poet In My Heart 1001 Albums Generator 88 (08/04/2025) I didn't realize Fleetwood Mac had their White Album: a messy, eclectic double album with songs written by individuals as opposed to being written by the whole band. It is well documented that guitarist Lindsay Buckingham was into post-punk at this time and didn't want to make an album that sounded like their previous album, the highly successful Rumours. However, it is obvious from Christine McVie and Stevie Nicks' contributions that they wanted to continue down the soft pop rock route, with Nicks taking the ballads and McVie taking the higher energy songs. The strong swings in style are evident from the beginning, when McVie's soft rock masterpiece Over & Over is followed by Buckingham's cowpunk The Ledge. Both songs are really quite wonderful, but could hardly be more different from one another. Similar to The Beatles' White Album, the A side is absolutely perfect. Think About Me is a relatively basic, but very catchy, rocker also penned by McVie and Save Me A Place is a more stripped back, folksy piece with wonderful vocal harmonies from Buckingham. Stevie Nicks' only contribution on the A Side is considered one of the best Mac songs ever: the ethereal Sara. From the opening verse, accompanied only by piano before Mick Fleetwood's drums begin to build along with John McVie's bass, the sound is really reminiscent of dream pop honestly (seriously listen to this album through the lens of Beach House and you'll see what I mean). Instruments continue coming in, almost unnoticed, while the structure of the song remains pretty simple. This is a vibes song all the way. Songs like What Makes You Think You're The One, Not That Funny, and I Know I'm Not Wrong are so glammy and punky. It is a sound that I don't associate with Fleetwood Mac at all, but it works great and I'm glad that Buckingham brought it to the table. There are just so many songs here; I can't talk about all of them. Sisters Of The Moon sounds like it could have been on Rumours, and I'm actually surprised this one isn't more popular. I think that the album starts to drag in its second half. That's Enough For Me is autological. Never Make Me Cry is pretty boring and forgettable. The last side is the worst one (as with The White Album). Beautiful Child and Walk A Thin Line do absolutely nothing for me, but Honey Hi is kind of cute. The title track is a really interesting piece of experimental rock and is Buckingham's best contribution to the album by far. Reading about the recording of this song is nuts. Tusk is a mess, but it's Fleetwood Mac's unique mess. It has very high highs and kind of low lows, but I would say it's a solid 4/5. Favs: Sara Sisters Of The Moon Tusk Least Fav: That's Enough for Me

Didn't think I liked Fleetwood Mac so was't looking forward to this..but enjoyed it. Despite them apparantly wanting it to sound more like post-punk, to me it had more of the weirdness of Beatles White Album, or Beach Boys/early McCartney solo lo-fi - enough variety and surprises that it never felt like it was running out of ideas despite its length

it was incredible. took me back a little too

That's more like it! Glorious madness, this. How do you follow up Rumours, probably the best and most accessible record of the decade? If you're Buck, Nicks, Mick and Christine, then you do...this. An absolutely mental mess that is, nevertheless, completely brilliant.

Not their best album, but so much talent.

Tusk is Fleetwood Mac’s double album follow-up to their biggest album ever, Dreams, one of the best-selling albums of all time. When the Mac wrote & recorded Tusk, Lindsey Buckingham wanted something totally different from Dreams, & Lord, was it. Tusk showcases 3 songwriters across 20 songs, Christine McVie wrote 6, Stevie Nicks wrote 5 & Buckingham wrote 9 songs. McVie, who is extremely under-rated, wrote songs that could’ve worked on Dreams & Nicks too wrote songs that for the most part could have been on Dreams, but Buckingham was inspired by punk & new wave & his songs are so different from what Dreams was, it’s almost like he wasn’t even in the same band anymore. Buckingham’s songs were almost punk rockabilly mixed with the Beach Boys. You need a couple of listens to see what he was going for, while McVie’s songs brought you back down to earth, & Nicks was going to Nicks. The song Tusk is one of the weirdest songs ever. It’s nonsensical, it has a marching band playing in it, but it’s got that riff that keeps it locked into your brainpan for days. Standout tracks are Over & Over, That’s All for Everyone, That’s Enough for Me, Beautiful Child, Tusk, & my favorite track, Sara, Sara is about Nicks’s doomed relationships with Mick Fleetwood, Don Henley & a terminated pregnancy. Not a fun song lyrically, but it’s beautiful. While I can see why this album only sold like 4 million compared to Dreams' 10 million & it could have some of the fat trimmed down to an incredible 10-12 track album, Tusk is definitely a great album on its own merit.

Stevie Nicks is one of the most expressive vocalists of her generation. I gravitate immediately to every song she’s the lead on, the other songs not so much. A lot of the songs have a Fleetwood Mac sound, there’s some that feel almost like a song the Band would produce. Notable songs include Over And Over, Sara, What Makes You Think You’re The One, Storms, Sisters of the Moon, Angel, Brown Eyes, I Know I’m Not Wrong, Hi Honey, Beautiful Child, Walk A Thin Line, Never Forget.

Classic album.

Not quite Rumours but still good, even the Buckingham songs

Thank god these lads couldn’t stop shagging each other, they made some great tunes. Perhaps nothing standout like Rumours, but enjoyed the longer more experimental stuff. Simpsons: Yes

Good, but not as good as Rumours

I enhoyed it, it somehow felt a bit less memorable than rumors but a great record overall. The sounds, songwriting felt less folky compared to some tracks on rumors. Another good one for a long car ride.

Great album

I haven't listened to a full Fleetwood Mac album in its entirety before, just the odd song here and there on the radio, so this was a nice chance to do that. Having read notes about how this album was made, I was intrigued to see how it played out, and I liked the chopping and changing of styles between tracks. The switch from the chilled out Sara to the Sgt. Pepper-esque (in my opinion) What Makes You Think You're the One was interesting. I wouldn't say I'm a die-hard Fleetwood Mac fan, but I'm never adverse to hearing their music. I think four stars is probably just about right for this. When Rumours comes round, I'm sure I will revisit Tusk afterwards. Standout track - Tusk

What a great easy listen!

4 stars!

Not my fave but didn’t give it my full attention (post Ibiza)

Franchement excellent. 4/5 voir 4,5/5

Okay do it's not Rumours. Other than that great.

Suffers in comparison from Rumors being the album immediately preceeding it. They went into it making sure not to just make a repeat and succeeded in that. Best song is the title track the rest is a mix.

Chaotic collection of tracks seemingly without narrative or thematic thread. Impressive range of sounds and emotions.

I def have listened to a decent number of Fleetwood Mac songs, but not an album other than Rumours (so many hits that it's gotta be on this list?). None really catch my eye on first glance. This is a lot to digest but this is just really good music. Storms might be my favorite song on here though I will certainly find others on more re-listens. Feels like an album to put on during a somber day and I mean that in a good way. I saw a comment comparing this to the Beatles' White Album and I agree with that quite a bit. That was a good album, but there were so many songs that it's hard to not look back at it like a "greatest hits" collection more than just an album. Tusk feels like that especially because there's almost an even split between Nicks, Buckingham, and McVie. It's like they all needed a quota for 6 songs a piece. I like it better when albums have a central story or theme to build off of. This isn't that. Tusk is a bit bloated but with very little down points. You can turn this one on, kick back, and relax for an hour just pleasantly listening along. For that, I'd give it a solid 4.

Nice relaxing album. Pretty long, but I had no complaints once it got rolling. Listened to this one on speakers which I don't normally do, but I'd like to come back to this one on headphones one day.

I don't think I knew a single song on this album which I was surprised about. But this was just some classic Fleetwood Mac with great singing and instruments. The title track Tusk was a cool one with some of the different instruments. They made so many albums holy hell.

Never have gone down the rabbit hole that is Fleetwood Mac, but always enjoyed their music. Just never really sought it out. Pretty classic Fleetwood Mac album. Nothing bad but most of the album was above average to me. They just sound solid. The Buckingham songs are kinda crazy.

This is an absurd, drugged out, arrogant, self-indulgent, sometimes discordant, fractured double album made by the greatest band in the world at the time. Oh, sorry, that’s my review of the White Album. This is better than that. I will not be taking any questions.

Not my fav Fleetwood Mac but it’s all still pretty goid

Найкраще це відчуття «спокійного прийняття» відчувається у композиціях Angel та Save Me A Place.

Very good album. Yes its not Rumours but it was nice to hear something a little out there from them.

banger idc

what an odd album. individual songs were nice and I wonder why they didn’t get more long-term commercial popularity (possibly overshadowed by rumours which came out right before this album?), but the album as a whole was very disjoint, with everyone seemingly on a totally different wavelength. if this were another band i’d probably be harsher on them, but this is an album I can see myself listening to more in the future

Long but full of enjoyable and heartfelt songs. I was a little worried when I didn’t recognize any of the songs on the album but every Stevie song (especially Storms and Sara) stood out to me

I have 5 Fleetwood Mac albums in my library but not this one. Will order it now :-)

Fleetwood Mac is one of those bands where I haven’t owned much of their music, but when they are on the radio, I generally don’t turn away. So when this album popped up, I was genuinely excited, as I’d only heard a couple of these tracks before. This proved to be an excellent album with tons to like. I already knew Sara was an excellent song, but for the first time I really paid attention to the drums, and I just loved what Mick Fleetwood did throughout this track. Their voices blend amazingly well on many of these songs, but the harmonies on Beautiful Child and Think About Me really stood out. Other songs like the title track or What Makes You Think You’re the One were straight angry, making them interesting to hear for other reasons. Sisters of the Moon was one of the highlight for me in the tracks I hadn’t heard before. For some reason, this reminded me of Isn’t It Midnight, which might be my favorite Fleetwood song, but that could just be because it’s not one of those songs you hear on the radio from them. Even a tune like Storms, which I didn’t love, is inherently interesting because of the dichotomy between what Stevie Nicks is singing about and how amazing her voice sounds while singing it. The point is not everything on this is perfect by any means, but even when it isn’t, it’s always an interesting listen and well worth your time. A great selection.

haven't even finished the album but already a vibe. First like in this whole albums generator. nice.

second ever fleetwood mac album i've listened to, to my great shame and embarrassment. 4 songs in and i don't think it's as good as rumors, which is maybe not fair to even bring up. god i love fleetwood mac. great album. lots of songs i liked on it

It's not quite Rumours but it fucks pretty consistently. Still seem to be a few good songs about how much everybody in the band hates everybody else. Loses one star because USC destroyed the Pac-12.

Hadn't heard any of these before, so it was interesting to get introduced to an entire set of new-to-me music from Fleetwood Mac. I can also see why, from my "I only hear them on greatest hits compilations" perspective, these don't usually make the cut. The sound on here is not surprisingly pretty damn good. As a twelfth album I gotta give them credit, that's a lot of creativity to continue to mine from an obviously deep well. Some pretty catchy tunes grew out after a couple listens for me. Solid work.

A great 'old standard' by Fleetwood Mac, never get tired of listening to it.

Dat können die besser

I like it - it's relaxing background; musical; there's interest and not too much chaos. the balance of voice to instrumentation is interesting; i feel like the instruments are more forward (or at least in this song) and i think that helps contribute to the "peaceful" feeling. the voices aren't as inspiring/to my taste as some, but at a high level, I'm a fan. I think 4 - I like it (not neutral), and not blown away. here's what I think my rankings are: 1 - actively strongly dislike 2 - actively dislike 3 - neutral 4 - actively like 5 - love among all these things there are different elements that I may like or dislike, so the number rating will be an overall impression. as i keep listening, i may be able to distill categories of what i start paying attention to. some categories i may consider: - vocal quality (do I like or dislike the voices? and what do i like or dislike about them)? - instrumental quality (some things i've liked so far are interesting/tight harmonies, intricacy of patterns, unexpected or harmonious movement of instruments together, either in melody/harmony or in rhythm) - tone or subject matter (major, minor) - degree of chaos vs. harmoniousness

Like the folksiness of this album!! Some bangers I’ve never heard!

Great listen. Love my some Fleetwood Mac and enjoyed the creativity of this album

Ok. I, like everyone else in my generation, own a copy of “Rumours”. I obviously heard “Tusk” before ,so I thought I knew what I was in for with this album. This isn’t “Rumours”. It’s messier, “thunkier” (if that’s a word) more jarring and dare I saw more “honest”. Not the polished Fleetwood Mac offering I was expecting. I liked it, and if I have repeated listens I think I’d grow to love it. I’m going to buy a copy.

Not as many hits as Rumors, but I can see why this belongs on this list. Lots of good compositions that are enjoyable to listen to, even if the album is a hair long. I'd listen to this more. 4/5

I have to trust my gut. It's not an immediate 5, but I do love this album and revisit it.

Great album, just like everyone says. Not my favorite of theirs, but Rumors is tough to beat.

This may be a controversial opinion, but I prefer this over rumours. Rumours was just a bit too poppy of a rock album for me. Then again the Stevie Nicks, Lindsay Buckingham era isn’t my favourite Fleetwood Mac era either. This album was definitely more experimental but I think I just preferred or enjoyed this album more because it felt like I was listening to a rock album. Didn’t change my opinion about how Fleetwood Mac’s best music was with Peter Green.

Classic album. Not my favorite by them but you can't go wrong with FM

Beautiful. I love this album. Just a bit too long.

como es doble no es perfecto, pero muy bueno. se nota la diversidad de compositores

Light to DECENT 7. As accessible as a "difficult" follow-up album can get. Usual issue of so many double albums not having as high a hit to miss ratio.

3.5/5 - Nice change from Rumours, but nothing jumps out. Still the same sound though!

I like Fleetwood Mac. This didn't change my opinion one way or another

Generally likeable album. I love the titular track, and was a little sad that nothing else held a candle to it, but I did like the whole thing

I really liked this album. I remember my dad bringing it home with such anticipation, after declaring “Rumours” the best album of all time. I still recall the look of disappointment on his face as the album unspooled, very non-Rumours like. Despite that, I’ve always thought’ Tusk’ to be one of their best songs and I liked it more this listen than ever before.

Classic Fleetwood Mac - good dreamy shit.

I think it's around a 4.5 from me.

I'll admit, for a good chunk of the day I was having trouble tryna think of exactly what my feelings were about this album. Now, it could've been because I kinda zonked out while I was tryna listen to this thing, so I ended up spending a lot of time chewing and not so much actually tasting... But I think I got it down. To me, you can summarize this album just by the difference between its first two songs. (TUSK!) The album opens with "Over & Over", which, yep, standing in for tracks written by McVee or Nicks... Sure sounds like RUMOURS. And that's far from a bad thing, of course; I love RUMOURS. It just... I don't know. It just doesn't hit exactly the same? Maybe it's missing that polish to the point of near-blinding shine that RUMOURS had, I'unno. It's good, but it doesn't stick out to me in the way that any of the best non-singles on RUMOURS. For sure, as an opener, it's no "Second Hand News". (TUSK!) Then we come to "The Ledge", standing in for what Lindsay Buckingham wrote for this album. And where McVee and Nicks were fine crafting more songs in the vein of RUMOURS, Buckingham... Sure wasn't! I heard he was inspired by a lot of post-punk he was listening to, particularly of the Talking Heads variety, and if I view it under that lens... I suppose it **is** the best post-punk I've heard from this list. After all, you still have those incredible Fleetwood Mac vocals, and his experimentation can pull off some neat stuff every now and then, like the title track. However, on the whole, while none of it's bad, ehhh, I'd be lying if I said I wouldn't have been happy with just more stuff like RUMOURS. (TUSK!) And it's like, I'd wanna judge this album on its own, without forcing it to stand in the shadow of its big sibling. And for sure, it could have stood out more — a fellow group member mentioned BAD and IN UTERO in their discussion, and those are absolutely albums that hold up beyond just being follow-ups. But with TUSK, despite its scope and ambition... I mean, I'unno, maybe it wasn't just because I was zonked out that these songs were slipping off me so easily. And I could go into my "maybes" about how I could have been into it more — maybe if so much of this thing's eventual budget hadn't gone towards cocaine; maybe if Buckingham could've been held back from doing more of his post-punk stuff — but, eh, it is what it is, and I'm not one to judge something for what I thought it could have been. (TUSK!) And all the same, I'd refrain from calling it bad. I'm sure if I were in a better state of mind, I'd have far more praise for these tracks beyond calling them "slightly sub-RUMOURS." 'Coz, hey, "sub-RUMOURS" is still adjacent to RUMOURS, and if you're nearing that level of songwriting at any kind of level... Well, it ain't nothing to sneeze at, I'll tell you that much. (TUSK!)

I’m at a 4. When we got Rumours roughly 221 days ago, I finished that review by asking “How the hell do you follow this up?”, and I think the answer is… you just can’t. It’s in its own bracket, ala Thriller or Nevermind. With that said, if you look at Bad or In Utero, those albums still stand up on their own legs – in Bad’s case, by successfully expanding on Thriller’s sensibilities & mixing them with the new production tricks/styles that had emerged in the long gap, and with In Utero’s case, by deconstructing the tropes that made Nevermind such a success, but without fully sacrificing or shunning them, using them as a tool to enhance the storytelling of the album. This album tries to do both, and it just doesn’t work. It’s only been 2 years since Rumours, so the amount of “new tricks” to pull from isn’t very much; that didn’t stop Lindsey Buckingham from trying really, really hard to integrate new wave / post-punk trends into Fleetwood Mac’s style, though. Do his tracks work? Honestly, kinda. They’re just not as compelling, not for a lack of trying. I just don’t think Lindsey Buckingham is the guy to thread that needle, and the tracks he took control over, for as fun and experimental as they are, don’t have the polish that other artists would truly apply once the 80s really started to roll. As far as “deconstructing” Rumours, this album sort of tries to do it, but that attempt comes at the sacrifice of the writing. There’s never a dull vocal moment here, but so many of these tracks lack even the most minor bit of worldbuilding to give a proper “life” to each track. They come across as the sort of leftover lines scattered throughout the production of Rumours, with platitudes and one-liners abound, but without the same heart, honesty & intensity. That just leaves a vague impostor syndrome that hangs over a lot of the album for me – I’m not trying to invalidate their feelings, because there are some really well written tracks on this album, but as a whole, it just doesn’t carry the same weight & believability. So, between the lesser writing & the avant-garde stuff (for Fleetwood Mac anyway) blending into a 20-track album, while it’s a fine enough listen, it just doesn’t work in a coherent sense. That lack of cohesion isn’t what makes this album sit at a 4, though – if anything, I admire the approach to try to make something that isn’t just Rumours again. Hell, I even liked 15 of the 20 tracks here, even with a lot of my perceived flaws of the album. The main reason I’m at a 4 is because the album is just too damn cyclical, and it leads to the album feeling bloated. Rumours is one of the tightest 39 minutes ever put to tape, and that’s not even including “Silver Springs”. This album is 74 minutes, which isn’t necessarily a bad thing, but it’s just not a fully compelling 74 minutes. It steps on its toes with a lot of the subject matters at hand, & while it’s never dull at any point, it is very easy to lose interest in a track the longer the album goes because of the repetitive theming of the album. All of those complaints / thoughts aside, when this album hits, it hits really nicely, and as a whole package, I do think I like this album. While there’s not any mega-hits ala “Go Your Own Way” or “The Chain”, there’s some great, great tracks here like “Sara”, “Sisters of the Moon”, “Brown Eyes” & “Tusk”. It’s just too big for its own good, and as a successor to “Rumours”, it collapses under its shadow. I do recommend it, because at the end of the day, it’s still Fleetwood Mac in the ‘70s. It’s a pretty strong 4, and other bands of the era would still kill to have an album like this. That said, if it had just been tightened up a bit more, I think it just would’ve clicked better across the board. C’est la vie, though.

Really good album

Fun listen, the album sounds very clean and polished. Not their best work but very good.

Tusk has the unfortunate role of following up Rumours, but it’s not bad. Buckingham took control with this one and it shows. It’s a good album, but follows one of the GOATs.

Always too lazy pre-challenge to listen to a whole FM album. Impression I gathered was that Rumours was a "great album," for folks who did not listen to a whole lot of music (the chain is a real motherfucker of a song though!), and that this was more interesting. It is pretty interesting - charango! "post punk" Buckingham. But is it most expensive album to record in history to that point, reconstruct a cokehead bathroom interesting? Probably not. Some stuff despite all the speeding up and slowing down guitars and kleenex box snares still sound pretty much like the tracks off Rumours. Nicks songs are the strongest.

Great vocals.

Borderline 3, not sure how to feel about this will have to listen again.

Some great tunes from a great band, very nice

Fav tracks: The ledge, Think about me, sara , storms, sisters of the moon , beautiful child, tusk , never forget great music throughout with incredible peaks gonna give it a 4 though because I know what Fleetwood Mac are capable of

Pretty pleasant album.

Over & Over & Angel - typical of FWM - great to relax to. Love the brass band in Tusk. The assuredness behind What makes you think you’re the one? is a vibe.

Feels like the album the came after a massive success. As if all of their bestest, most creative ideas have been spent on something else. Not to say this is a bad album, I think this is perhaps number two. Just falls a ways. Production was excellent, instrumentation was spot on, songwriting was unique to them, lyrics were fresh and interesting. I didn’t mind the length on this one, felt justified. Enjoyed the whole thing thoroughly. 4/5

A good album, love some Fleetwood Mac. I liked Think About Me and Sara the most.

I liked it. It has a nice consistent groove and Nicks' vocals are so soothing. I only listened once but I have a feeling I will come back to this one again real soon. 3.5

I don't love this as much as Rumours - it's certainly a messier record- but there are enough highs to make up for it

This is a rock solid 4,5 very hard to choose between the 5 and 4 starts

yaaaa it’s a little bit all over the place and definitely not a “no skips” album but the good songs are just SO good that it doesn’t even matter. stevie and christine the women that you are…’sara’ makes me feel like i’m dying and all my guts are heaped on the ground around my body (this is a good thing). ‘over & over’ and ‘warm ways’ are syrupy warm contentment, sunlight on skin… fav tracks: brown eyes; honey hi; sara; the ledge; sisters of the moon; storms; over & over; angel; that’s all for everyone; think about me; i know i’m not wrong; walk a thin line; tusk

CHRISTINE MCVIE SUPREMACY!!!! that is crazy they open the album with Over & Over. they were like welcome to the album named for our marching band banger but would you like to start off by crying. i can’t remember the last time i listened to this all the way through but i did not recall it being over an hour long. i think it’s a bit too long and some of the songs on here are (as i like to say) generic fleetwood-mac-flavored tracks. like yes that is what fleetwood mac sounds like but it is not necessarily a memorable version of its kind of song. and that genericness is really emphasized by the fact that this album has so many of their heavy-hitters that are so intense and beautiful and evocative (”Sara”, “Sisters of the Moon”, “Storms”). There is also such a jarring difference between the aforementioned songs that represent the classic Stevie Nicks woo-woo Fleetwood Mac sound, and the more soft-rock, heartbreaking and often plucky, but quintessentially Fleetwood Mac style of Christine McVie’s tracks (”Think About Me”, “Over & Over”, “Honey Hi”). I love both but they are just both at their extremes on this album so it doesn’t feel cohesive even if the songs themselves are good. There are maybe one or two tracks that seem to blend these styles (”Angel” feels like a Christine track sung by Stevie, and “Brown Eyes” feels like the reverse). and then there’s lindsey buckingham stomping around doing whatever it is he does. i unfortunately do have a strong affection for him because my brain was exposed to him at an early age so his goofier songs are nostalgic and fun to me still even if they are not nearly as thoughtful or beautiful as the women-led ones (”What Makes You Think You’re the One”, “Not That Funny”). it feels like this is kind of their white album — you can feel the band fracturing which results in chunks of songs distinctly in one band member’s style or another, rather than a cohesive body of work that functions as the sum of their parts. overall i still had a good time listening to this album but if i didn’t have such a strong emotional attachment to these songs i would think these people were kind of insane for putting the album together this way. which i still do but i love them for it. Fav tracks: Storms, Sisters of the Moon, Honey Hi, Tusk, Sara, Brown Eyes, Think About Me

Man, this poor album. The artists just produced one of the greatest and most heart wrenching albums two years prior and then they have to follow it up? Poor Tusk, they just wanted to make a detox victory lap album and clearly they did. The problem is that folks seemingly wanted more Rumours in a lot of ways. If that album didn't exist this would be just a fantastic and wild journey. So I'm just pretending it is its own thing. I think it's pretty great. Maybe a touch schmaltzy but that's sort of genre appropriate where it rears it's head.

Some gems

Real savage like.

4 estrelas com muito boa vontade

Solid.

Fleetwood Mac operates in the soft rock space I really enjoy . The album had a lukewarm start for me but won me over by end of side B . Enjoyed this

More experimental than Rumours. I prefer this, but not the highest on Fleetwood Mac in the first place. 4 stars

I wasn't a big FM fan, but Tusk and Rumours are such masterpieces. I can listen to Christine McVie warble all day long. 4/5

Sara is my favorite so far. Storms is another favorite. Not That Funny feels like a filler. Is Fleetwood Mac a bit country? I liked it overall.

Oh yes, an old friend. Let's go! Favourites were Think About Me, Storm, Tusk

Best Song: Over & Over Worst Song: Tusk

I don’t even know if I totally get this album but it’s very cool and ambitious and modern, tons of moments where I totally forgot I was listening to FM. Would like for it to grow on me bc I appreciate how different it is from the other stuff I’ve heard from them

Very different for the Mac! I quite liked this sound and am definitely gonna listen to this so more

pleasant... perfectly nice

Solid. 4/5

Two great songs that I would call iconic, Sara and Tusk. If I didn't know who fleetwood mac was I would have never listened past the first song.

Such a wide-ranging album that it almost feels like an injustice to try and sum it up in a single paragraph. I enjoyed finding similarities between it and the previous Neil Young album, as both have varied song types, relatively simple instrumentation, and distinctive vocals. Looking forward to many more listens of this album!

Pretty good!

kinda directionless but still weirdly cohesive, does feel like 3 different albums smashed into each other, hard not to lay back and smile (enigmatically, worriedly?)

Agradable para estar de tranquis

A lot of pleasant songs

Everything about Fleetwood Mac is good.

one of their lesser known albums but still great.

es muy bueno aunque (con el mayor d los respetos) medio largo

Pretty underrated Fleetwood Mac album

****A good album

I always forget how much I enjoy Fleetwood Mac. I had not heard this album previously and really enjoyed it, although it felt a bit disjointed. This one will likely end up in my regular listening rotation/I may seek it out on vinyl one day.

yehaa boiiii

Fleetwood Mac is like sex for the ears.

I don't think I've heard this before, was pretty chill

Enjoyed this one!

Great album liked some songs more than others but I can see why this album is on this list :D

A more experimental follow up to Rumors which I've never actually listened to in full. A first listen feels interesting if a little bloated, but also very dense. Going to need some follow up sessions to fully digest this one.

Over & over Sara Angel Beautiful child

First time listening to Fleetwood Mac beside the rumours album, overall I understand why they are so big. I throughly enjoyed the album.

There was only one way to go after "Rumours" — down. The best songs on this album are the ones sung by Stevie. Just a bloated, sprawling album that lacks focus, but still has some bright moments.

Mornin 美国的乡间小路

I always preferred the White Album to Sgt. Pepper. There is a chaotic beauty to it which I find more attractive than its highly polished predecessor. Some people say it would have been a better album if you removed the weaker tracks like Wild Honey Pie, but I think they add to it's charm. There's something raw and vulnerable in the imperfections. The only exception to that sentiment are the drums on Walk A Thin Line, which are an abomination and against all things that are good and holy in this world.
