Reviews (page 3 of 12)
- so much fun, great vibes - great quality for a live album - left the album radio on all day - so many likes
Great album. What I think of when I think of Thin Lizzy.
One of the great Irish bands to break through and thank goodness they did
Awesome album
I really enjoyed this album, loved the guitars and live rock, I had only heard “the boys are back in town” and loved how “cowboy song” almost lead into it. This album really surprised me and will for sure listen to this again.
Absolute banger. Cowboy Song made me think that Thin Lizzy walked so Bon Jovi could run.
Never listened to this and always thought I didn’t know any Thin Lizzy but alas I actually do 😂
Coole Platte!
This sounds like the definition of dad rock
heck of a live album. these guys know how to put on a show.
This album had EVERYTHING! I loved the live concert vibe, loved the irish accents, loved the rock vibes not a fan of suicide but I really liked Rosalie, Still in Love with You, Sha-La-La and ofc, THE BOYS ARE BACK IN TOWN aaaaaah classic bangers
Favourite tracks: jailbreak; emerald; southbound; massacre; don't believe a word; I'm still in love with you; Rosalie; cowboy song; boys are back in town
An all time great live album. Thin Lizzy is a favourite. The guitar playing on this album influenced all the bands I grew up listening to. These live versions are much better than the studio versions in my opinion. This would've been a good tour to see, the playing is on fire. 5 stars all the way.
Never heard this album before. Solid live album. Added it to the general Spotify lists. I will be going back to this one in the future
Simple but effective
Absolutely loved
un cinco. Tienen una versión de whiskey on the jar muy buena, aunque no está en este disco.
One of the best live albums of all time
This is excellent. If I had to quibble, it would be that it's early enough that it's missing some later hits, but boy, that's a quibble for sure. Really good recording for the era, nice energy, what's not to like?
This is how you do a live album. Don't know what it is, but something just stuck with me about it.
Best Live Album, so many songs are almost better than the studio versions
The boys are back in town!
What an incredible album. So many musical styles punctuated between the hard rock and roll sound. Blues, Jazz, Soul, Funk. The bass player was phenomenal, and their dual guitar harmony tone can't be beat. Excellent mixing on a live album and crowd noise was kept to a minimum, or used to enhance the track. Very well done and a thoroughly enjoyable listen. Fav tracks: Massacre, The Boys Are Back in Town, Still in Love with You
Excellent album!
didn't expect to like it at all, saved 2 songs, noice
Unfortunately many of these songs are no longer available on spotify :( What I was able to listen to was good tho, like the guys voice. Ah, they sing the boys are back in town, good stuff
Definitely a high quality album thst deserves to be in the book.
amazing live album. Great songs, great playing
Fun live album.
Enjoyed it pretty much all the way through. Wish I'd have heard it earlier
amazing
5 stars! The other albums that have got top marks from me were all ones I already knew and loved. This is the first complete surprise for me. I’d only ever heard a handful of Thin Lizzy songs, probably the ones that every other human has heard & I’d never really given the band another thought. So I played this one today curious to hear some more. It started really well, but I was kind of busy pottering around with it on in the background. When ‘Massacre’ came on, I started to pay some closer attention, then the guitar solos on ‘Still in Love with you’ just stopped me in my tracks. Awesome song. The album got a 2nd play later on, under the headphones and without any other distractions. Blown away by it all to be honest. Phil Lynotts vocal and bass incredible. But the song writing and musicianship is so so strong. Plenty of variety here too. Slightly saddened to read on the Wiki review about the contentious amount of studio overdubbing of the live recordings, but it shouldn’t spoil things. It’s a brilliant piece of work, and I can feel the energy they must have had ‘Live’. Why has it taken me this long to realise that this a seriously good band?!
This album is rock and roll at its finest
Only Thin Lizzy from “The Boys Are Back in Town”. This live album showcased so much more of their work and talent. Loved the energy to this one
This tour was the second concert I attended ..45 years ago. Still sounds as fresh as on the night. Fantastic front man and the duel guitars make for a great sound never to be forgotten.
Had to listen on YT. Pro-tip: when you search for this album if you find it in the search results and select play directly from the Google window (under the Videos results), it will expand the video and play it *without* ads! (The video I found was uploaded by MazNour II.) I don't normally love live music as much, but something about this Thin Lizzy performance just really worked for me. Absolutely loved this from start to finish!
Maybe the best live album I've ever listened to.
Haven’t heard it before. Only bits n bobs. Loved it.
Amazing
The biggest and best surprise on this list thus far.
I mean, it's Thin Lizzy. Phil Lynott is an icon, and Gary Moore is a god
This is one of my favorite albums I've listened to on this journey thus far. It hit so hard! I had no idea that Thin Lizzy was even good, I've only ever heard two songs by them. This is way better than those two.
Still in love with you, wow, prachtig. Hele dikke 5 sterren, lekker!
Awesome album!
Loved this album, love them, amazing!
I really like how it almost felt like I was actually at the concert with how the songs flowed into each other
My parents loved thin Lizzy and this album was on constant rotation in my house. Weird how some songs I can barely remember and some songs put me straight in my kitchen at 8 years old, guess that's how kids minds work. Sure there's a good dollop of nostalgia in this but I think Thin Lizzy are probably the coolest band there is. As anthemic as all of the other classic rock but more varied, great guitar work and a band that clearly sound amazing live. Would be high up on my dream festival bill.
Excellent, great production and fantastic performances of great songs
This is just superb. Phil Lynott's comment about 'girls want a bit more Irish in them' aside (it was of its time), this is a raucous, guitar-heavy celebration of 1970s rock, and I am here for it. A dad-rock joy.
awesome, wasn't familiar with the live versions, even better than studio
I honestly enjoyed this way more than I thought I was going to.
What an incredible live album. Pure energy start to finish. Crank it up and hold on. Excellent!
One of the best live albums I’ve ever heard. Philly Lynott’s bass lines and vocals are stellar, the guitar solos are killer, and drums are tight and in the pocket. Standouts: Jailbreak, Emerald, Rosalie / Cowgirl’s Song, Cowboy Song, Suicide, Baby Drives Me Crazy, and The Rocker.
Missing this is now the great regret of my pre-teen years. Love the cover photo! Love the music! Holy shit these guys tear up the stage! Best live album ever? YES YES YES YES B-B-B-B-B-B-B-B-BABY RIP IT UP!
This album rules. Might be the best way to introduce someone to this band.
A great live album striking the right balance between tune and embellishment.
Does what it says on the tin..
Holy shit that was good. I had only heard "Boys are back in town" on the radio. I'm actively pissed at my classic rock stations for not carrying more of their songs.
What an album! Great songs, instrumentals & production
This album was live, dangerous, and absolutely rocked. THIN LIZZY!!! Guitar solos to melt your face off and epic drum solos. 5 stars
Amazing. Great energy, great recording. Probably the best live album i've ever heard
Today's album was a much welcomed change from the garbage that I've been getting lately. I love Thin Lizzy, they are a super underrated classic rock band from Ireland. Their music has everything you want from classic rock: stellar vocals, guitar solos, drum solos, leather, smoke, and sex appeal. Hell, second song in, the singer is asking women in the audience if they'd wanna bang. This live album is a compilation of the best bits from three separate shows they played: the Tower Theatre in Pennsylvania, the Hammersmith Odeon in London, and the Rainbow Theatre in London. That said, it contains all of their hits, plus some stuff I hadn't heard before, but was equally as awesome. One song even featured Huey Lewis on harmonica (Baby Drives Me Crazy)! Overall, a phenomenal record! Who cares if they overdubbed applause, it is the music and energy that shines through! Listened to it 3 times today, and will definately listen again in the future. Favourite songs: Cowboy Song, The Boys Are Back In Town, Dancing in the Moonlight, Jailbreak, Massacre, Rosalie (Cowgirl's Song), Emerald, Johnny the Fox Meets Jimmy the Weed, Suicide, Baby Drives Me Crazy Least favourite songs: Sha-La-La, Still in Love With You 5/5
5/5. What a fun and energetic live album. Never a huge fan of thin lizzy but this just covers all the bases for a live album and is just greatest hits but better.
Goede hits, lekkere rock. Goed bezig
This album is an absolute banger. I'd only really listened to Jailbreak before, but I'm definitely checking out more Thin Lizzy albums now. So many big, big tunes in here. Massacre is fucking great! Jailbreak is a tune! Emerald is utterly badass! All the guitars are awesome. The squealing guitar solos are SO my jam. Phil Lynott's vocals are iconic. Do I want it to lose a star for not being fully live...? No, I enjoyed it way too much for that. A great discovery, this.
Very good live album!! Incredible tracks and solos. Loved most, if not everything.
Awesome album
Rock heaven. If I had only one wish, it's to have been playing guitar on stage with Robbo and Scott for the Cowboy Song - I would die happy. I love live albums and this is up there with Mott The Hoople.
This is pretty much the TL greatest hits, from the golden run of albums from Vagabonds through to Bad Reputation. Notoriously lots of overdubs, but one of the great 'live' albums.
really good - 9/10 loved the part where (unless I heard it wrong,) the audience is yelling for an encore and the dude is yelling “NO!” lol
Way better than expected... I guess I never realized they had so many great songs.
One of the best bands ever. Never heard this live album before. A real gem. The first half is back to back classics. 11/10
A stone cold classic
Badass, yet simple. Phil Lynott’s voice is iconic.
THE live rock album. Wall to wall bangers, screaming guitar solos, Phil's exquisite voice, and ENERGY. Friday night they'll be dressed to kill Down at Dino's bar and grill The drink will flow, and blood will spill And if the boys wanna fight, you better let 'em Fav tracks: All of 'em - 5/5
nice
Amazing album, even more amazing that it’s live!!
I find live albums to be either outstanding or terrible, no middle ground, and this is outstanding.
Heard before: not live! I didn't expect to love this so much. It absolutely rips. What a great live band.
The entire album is available on Apple Music. And fuck me, it's worth making the effort. I'm not a fan of heavy metal, but surely live music doesn't get much better. Forget the 2 different gigs / overdubs stuff, this is better than anything Thin Lizzy did in a studio.
I recognized way more songs than I realized! True bangers. Made me wanna play air guitar all over my living room!
I love this album. I don't listen to much hard rock anymore but this one still hits - everything about the dual/harmony guitars, Phil Lynott's voice, vocal harmonies, the band's tight power, the mix, the song selections - there's never too much heavy as they'll drop back to more melodic songs (e.g. Emerald to Southbound) or classic mellow rock (Dancing In The Moonlight). Rock/Metal/Groove/Soulful. oh - plus some bonus Huey Lewis late in the album (he was part of their touring band in these days). 9/10 5 stars. ...who doesn't always get chocolate stains on their pants...
Thin Lizzy at their best.
BOY this was a good record. I like “The Boys Are Back In Town” just as much as the next guy, but the power and gravitas of this one blew me away. Phill Lynott sounds so fucking cool on this album
One of the top 5 live albums of all time
Ridiculous!
-"Jailbreak" has some solid riffs and some cool guitar stuff -"Massacre" is a total jam and also the bass slide/riff at 1:17 is gnarly -"Johnny the Fox Meets Jimmy the Weed" is just a fundamentally great song name -The transition straight from "Cowboy Song" straight into "The Boys Are Back in Town" is cool. Also, "The Boys Are Back in Town" is one of the only 2 Thin Lizzy songs I previously knew (the other being "Cold Sweat") and the bass part seems to be amped up for the live version and I quite like it. -Awesome jams in "Massacre," "Warrior," "Are You Ready," and "Suicide" -Totally awesome live rock album, will absolutely be doing more listening
rock n roll baby. better version of “Dancing in the Moonlight”? would definitely see live x
Easy 5/5, I really like a few of these songs, Lynott has an amazing statue you really should see, and for flow I guess you can't beat a live performance. I did previously think I really didn't like live versions of songs, but after a whole album I think I realise where I've been going wrong.
THIS IS HEAVEN OR LAS VEGAS BY COCTEAU TWINS
I like this a lot. Nice and rocky. My favourite live album of all time.
Superb - Dancing in the Moonlight is an all time classic!
Muy bueno
un cinco. Tienen una versión de whiskey on the jar muy buena, aunque no está en este disco.
Har ikke hørt dette live-albumet før. Men for et album! Fantastisk(!) åpning med Jailbreak. Tipper litt over mot litt kjedelig blues til tider, men henter seg mesterlig inn med diamanter som Cowboy Song, Warriors og The Rocker.
Rocks hard. Better than studio versions
The definitive live album this guy was in his absolute top
You gotta love a good turn off your brain record every once in a while I think “fun” is the best way to describe this one. Couple of crowd favorites (Jailbreak, The Boys are Back in Down), some great jam sessions (really liked Emerald’s guitar solo), and a decent amount of audience engagement. We haven’t gotten a lot of live albums but I always think there’s something a little cool about being transported into the crowd of a concert. I think an hour for music like this is kinda on the upper limit; they don’t have a ton of range and it does sorta wear out its welcome towards the end. Quite a few forgettable songs, though I guess the concert as a whole being good is what really matters. I wouldn’t really say I felt strong feelings listening to this, definitely more of a crowd pleasing sound rather than trying to tug on anyone’s heartstrings Still though, really enjoyed this one for the most part. We don’t get these kinda strictly “fun” albums very much on this list so sometimes it’s really nice to be able to take a break from the artsy fartsy stuff. Also damn I didn’t know Huey Lewis played harmonica or that he was around back then, pretty cool.
I was having a little laugh to myself at the thick Dublin accent coming through all the time. I keep forgetting they’re Irish. This was my first venture into Thin Lizzy. I obviously knew the big hit, “Boys Are Back In Town” but that was about the full scope of my Thin Lizzy knowledge. This was a good introduction to the band. I got to hear all the favourites, which were obviously selected by the band themselves as it was a live album. However, it was a live album and I was aware I was listening to a version of a song that was not the recorded version. Therefore, can I give a good review on certain songs if that was not the original version? I don’t know. Still, I had a great time listening to it. And I will definitely be investigating further into Thin Lizzy’s discography
A lot of fun this one. Holy guitars too
Perhaps overdubbed, by not overdone, Thin Lizzy's classic if controversial live record is not just an exemplar of the live form but an effective intro to a band I assume is now mostly remembered for that one hit. It's not that the Irish hard rock outfit is all that inventive or original, it's that they do Queen better than Queen & they're more T. Rex than they are Judas Priest or, oh I don't know, Def Leppard. Dumb is dumb, & these tracks don't exactly live in our wittiest or deepest brainwaves, but call me surprised, tho I may just be ravished, this doesn't just go hard & wild, it's got depth & soul. I'm not even that moved to say that it sounds live, i.e., this is no At Fillmore East. I think it just sounds alive, which is really all you want out of music anyways.
Great album - real energy to the sound and a few classic tracks
really solid and an enjoyable listen, ALWAYS.
4/5 Favorite Song: Still In Love With You
Meno oli kova, nauhotukset kuulosti hyvältä, soitanta oli todella loistavaa - levylle uskollista, mutta kuitenki live-höysteellä. Live-levyt on vaan aina vähän live-levyjä.
At first I was rolling my eyes at the inclusion of a live record like this on this list, even for a band I dig like Thin Lizzy. But goddamn is there some MUSCLE here. That transition from Cowboy Song into The Boys Are Back in Town would have made me sob real man tears if I was there in person for it.
The best live album!!
The recording quality is not great but it doesn’t matter. Thin Lizzy changed rock in multiple ways for the better. Epic band, epic album.
I had a great time listening to this album.
RIP Phil Lynott
4/5. I previously only really knew of Thin Lizzy for their big radio hits like “The Boys are Back in Town” so I was very surprised at how much I enjoyed this live record. The real highlight of the whole thing for me is the guitar playing which is fantastic all the way through. From what I gathered with the little research I did this was the last Thin Lizzy album to feature Brian Robertson on guitar, and what a send off this is on that front in terms of showcasing his skills. Beyond the guitar though, the rest of this is also pretty great, lots of catchy songs and solid band chemistry in terms of playing.
“Award winning live album” actually made in a studio For reals, they have a great sound though. Lots of hits to choose from.
Skeptical going in but it absolutely cooked
Great live album! Really like thin Lizzy!
at first blush it feels like pretty basic 70's 80's livin on a prayer woo woo rock but it's def got heart. there's a fun moment where it transitions into The Boys Are Back in Town and you're like "oh haha fuck yea its these guys". the live bit really enhances that rock n roll atmosphere, and generally the sound is mixed up enough that it stays sick as hell throughout. eventually the album does start to drag but it finishes strong in a very fun way. Dancing in the Moonlight playing into Massacre is a extremely sick combo, i'll say both of them together are my favorite song. very strong 4
I only know Thin Lizzy superficially. I've never listened to a whole album. I have the impression that they are one of these bands that had great stage presence but struggled to translate that excitement and energy to studio recordings. The Phil Lynott story is a sad one. Very 70s rock, in a good way. Very solid album. Strong finish, lots of good rock guitar playing. Guest appearance by Huey Lewis, blues harmonica player -- !! Whaa -- ?!? In the words of Phil Lynott's fellow Hibernian Shane MacGowan (Across the Broad Atlantic): Big hand for the lads. A bit too loud for me.
Loved this live-sort-of-but-not-fully live album. Well engineered, Lynott and co in their prime. Baffling that this is the only Lizzy album on this project though
You can smell the stale Schiltz beer that's been spilled on the floor when you listen to this album closely.
I really enjoyed this! Great album! At times I would forget it was a live album. Sounds great with fun songs!
Thin Lizzy rules. I'm not really a deep cut guy with them, but I love the mix of heavy, melodic 70s guitar rock with soulful singing and lyrics. Maybe a little longer than I needed it to be, but if it was any shorter I might have missed Huey Lewis (!) on harmonica.
Quite the impressive live offering from one of hard rock's most unsung heroes. I had never really thought much about this band besides hearing "Boys Are Back in Town" on rock radio here and there. You won't find anything super daring or out of the ordinary on this one, but this album offers plenty of straightforward rockers that keep you amped for its entire runtime (and 76 minutes is a VERY long time to stay amped.) Not sure how all-important this album but it's a hell of a good time and an excellent example of how interesting no-frills rock could be at the genre's peak.
4/5
from the cover i was expecting this to be obnoxious hair metal, but then when dancing in the moonlight came on and they were thanking their saxophone player, i realized i had them totally wrong. and then the boys are back in town came up and i was like ohhhh it's those guys! really fun time on this one
Highlights: Jailbreak Southbound The Boys Are Back In Town
Thin Lizzy is a band that I have heard some of, but mostly just their biggest hits. This album was a lot of fun, a high energy classic rock live album that I really enjoyed, and that wasn't limited to just the songs I knew. Thin Lizzy does sound a little glam, but I think it is hard enough not to be in the camp side of glam. I could definitely listen to this again.
Lowkey stalwart.
Okay, we have another live album on the list, and it’s another live album that some believe is the greatest live album ever recorded. It's Thin Lizzy’s Live and Dangerous. I’m sure you know at least one Thin Lizzy song, and it’s probably The Boys Are Back In Town. I kind of hate that song. I’ve just heard it too much. Radio really knows how to drive songs into the ground. Live and Dangerous came out in 1978, and the songs were taken from a few shows over a year’s time. It’s a double album, as well. Some say the album is 75% live, and others say the album is 75% studio overdubs. Guitarist Scott Gorham said the album showed the best of Thin Lizzy before the “bad drugs” began to destroy the band. Bandleader, bassist, and singer Phil Lynott would be dead about eight years later, primarily due to bad drugs and alcohol. The band, it seemed, was always going through changes, mainly with the guitarists. For this album, it was Lynott on bass and vocals and drummer Brian Downey, both of them there from the beginning. The guitarists were Gorham and Brian Robertson. Legendary guitarist Gary Moore was also one of the revolving guitarists in and out of the band a few times, though not on this record. I would probably call myself just a casual fan of Thin Lizzy. I never cared much for Lynott’s vocals, really. Though I do have my favorite songs, like Jailbreak and Bad Reputation. The album has 17 songs, and it runs just over one hour and 15 minutes. Let’s get it on. Track 1 is one of my favorites from the band, Jailbreak. Thin Lizzy was one of the bands that inspired other bands to use a twin guitar attack. The guitarists would often play solos together, harmonizing with each other. This sure sounds live to me. At the end of the song, the band brings the sound down a bit to allow the crowd to get into the show a little more by clapping. Great way to open the show. Track 2 is Emerald and Lynott starts the song out with a bad joke. The band is an Irish band, and Lynott asks if there are any ladies there with a little Irish in them. Of course, you can see where the joke is going. In 1978, that might have been high comedy. Now, it’s a pervy dad joke. I’m not sure I’ve heard Emerald, but it has a nice riff. It’s like a traditional Irish tune, but with beefy, feedbacked guitars. Cool. Yes, there’s the twin guitar attack as both guitarists are harmonizing with each other while playing the same melody. Now the solos come at you fast and furious. I think Thin Lizzy may be one of those bands like KISS. They sound fine on record, if not a little disappointing, but live, they’re beasts. Gorham and Robertson are still soloing. This song is great for guitar fans. Track 3 is Southbound, and it has a brighter, poppier sound. It also begins with the two guitars harmonizing on the lead melody. This is a driving song. Speaking of harmonies, the band is doing a good job harmonizing on the chorus. This song is laidback and fun. I feel like a lot of Thin Lizzy songs were like that. They had songs that could rip your face off, but also had fine rock songs that didn’t need face-melting solos. Track 4 is Rosalie/Cowgirl’s Song, and Rosalie was written by Bob Seger, which I didn't know. It does have that Seger uptempo rock groove. As for Cowgirl’s Song, one of Thin Lizzy's biggest songs is Cowboy Song. I wonder if Cowgirl’s Song came out of that popularity? Women can do things these days. Speaking of KISS, Rosalie has a KISS groove in there. The guitars sound incredible. I’m really digging this song. I actually started clapping at my desk. It may be the Monster Energy. Ohhh, here comes the familiar strains of Cowboy Song, but it must be Cowgirl’s Song. Okay, it seems they are just riffing Rosalie over Cowboy Song. And then it’s over. Great song. Track 5 is Dancing in the Moonlight, which I thought was a totally different song. Lynott's vocal style is so different. I think that may be what threw me off about Thin Lizzy. The vocals just aren’t arranged like normal classic rock standards. He’s singing in a conversational style. Oooh, there’s a saxophone playing on this song. This song sounds like Lynott’s try at righting a Van Morrison song. John Earle is playing the sax. Now we get a super clean, fun guitar solo. Thin Lizzy always had incredible guitar players, even though they went through them quickly. And near the song, it’s both guitars and the sax harmonizing on the melody. Wow. That’s awesome. Track 6 is Massacre, and I would have sworn this was an Iron Maiden song. This song is just running and running. I think I can definitely say this is the best stuff I’ve ever heard from Thin Lizzy. Not just the song, which is incredible, but they really shone live. This song is so heavy, yet there is also a guitar line that is like a light shining to show the way to the end of the song. This is my favorite song on the album now. Track 7 is Still In Love with You, and it’s a slowed-down love song. I wouldn’t necessarily call it a ballad. It’s very bluesy, at least to start. I’m digging this. It’s allowing Lynott to actually sing. The guitars really make this song work. All in all, a nice change of pace for the album. Track 8 is Johnny the Fox Meets Jimmy the Weed, and that’s a weird song title. Oh, yeah, this is funky. The lyrics aren’t doing much for me, or the singing, but the guitars and Lynott’s bass playing are really tight. Track 9 is Cowboy Song and it’s one of the band’s most loved songs. I’ve only heard it a few times. It has a melody that sounds similar to The Boys Are Back in Town, which kind of irks me. But, live, the guitars seem a bit heavier. It’s not turning me, but I do love the sound of the verses on guitar. We get to the middle of the song, and the two guitars really start singing, both together in harmony and separate in solos. Then, the last note of Cowboy Song, also happens to be the first note of The Boys Are Back in Town, which is track 10. The song is already pretty peppy on record, but I think the band speeds it up a bit more here. Those guitar harmonies are speeding by. I have to admit, this is a great song, and it’s a fun party song, but I’ve heard it so much. It’s one of those songs that everybody likes, and I tend to hate those songs. I guess it’s the contrarian in me. Track 11 is Don’t Believe a Word and I’m not sure I’ve heard this song. It’s pretty heavy for a love song. Damn, the first guitar solo just melted my cerebral cortex. That was straight fire. This song and Massacre are going into my singles playlist. Track 12 is Warrior, and it comes out firing with the twin guitar attack doubling each other. I like Lynott’s vocals on this song. It’s such a badass tune. Lynott’s voice sounds like Jimi Hendrix on this song. I later searched for a live performance of this song on YouTube, and Lynott said the song had been written for Hendrix. So, I guess he was trying to mimic Hendrix’s voice a bit. “I am the warrior I serve the death machine Losers or conquerors All flash past on my silver screen Death is no easy answer For those who wish to know Ask those who have been before you What fate the future holds It ain't pretty.” That’s badass. I know I say this for about every song, but the guitar solos are so good. I’m adding this song to my singles list. It’s so heavy and mean. Track 13 is Are You Ready and it immediately goes 0 to 100 mph in a flash. It’s got a great riff. Beyond it being a barnburner for the guitars, the song isn’t really that special. Lynott said it was a new song, which usually means it's bathroom and concession time during a concert. Track 14 is Suicide, or today it would be called Unaliving. The song is about suicide. I should say, the song is about a murder that the police label a suicide. That’s the plot of about 2,436 TV shows and movies. The song is a solid rock song, but the guitar solos are incredible, as usual. Gorham and Robertson just trade off. I assume it’s because their hands get too hot shredding, so the other has to take over. Track 15 is Sha-La-La and I hate the title, at least before hearing the song. The title may stink, but the riffs are stupendous. The riff reminds me of the riff from the Osmonds’ song called Crazy Horse. After reading the lyrics, this is quite the filthy song. It’s no Buckcherry, but without using curse words, it’s very suggestive. “Black magic woman, you've got a hold Come on, sugar, I'll lose control I want your body, not your soul Come on, baby, take my jelly roll.” That’s not very subtle at all. Though again, Buckcherry is about as subtle as a sledgehammer to your face. I’m not for censorship, but being unable to say certain words can actually make things more fun. It causes you to make up new words or sayings to point toward the word you can’t or shouldn’t say. I digress. Beyond the great guitars and licentious lyrics, drummer Downey gets himself some time for a drum solo. He played his arse off. Track 16 is Baby Drives Me Crazy and it starts with a sing-along with the crowd. This is an old-fashioned blues song with harmonica and all. Of course, most old-fashioned blues songs don’t have two guitars chuggin' along. Though it does give both guitarists a chance to shred, and shred they do. Speaking of a harmonica, Huey Lewis is playing it. Yes, that Huey Lewis. At that time, it seems he was known as Bluesy Huey Lewis. Great song with cool crowd interaction. Track 17, and the final track, is "The Rocker". I’m kind of sad the album is over, though I’m sure there’s some sort of giant deluxe album with 74 songs on it. The riff sounds like something Motorhead would play, though maybe at a faster pace. It definitely reminds me of a Fastway song, and Fastway was formed by former Motorhead guitarist “Fast” Eddie Clarke. Again, it has to be said, the guitar solos on this song are magnifique. It’s a great song to end the album and send the people home happy. Okay, I won’t say that I’m now a Thin Lizzy fan, but I definitely am a Live and Dangerous fan. It’s one of the best live albums I’ve heard. I got caught up in it a few times and was clapping along and playing air guitar. I also used the bathroom during the new song. If you’ve never heard Thin Lizzy or if you’ve only heard Thin Lizzy from studio albums, listen to this. It’ll turn you around. I wonder if this will give me a new appreciation for the recorded songs? If it’s not must-listen, I’d at least highly recommend it. It’s heavy enough for metalheads, but not so shreddy that rock fans can’t also groove to it.
Another great listen. I wasn't too familiar with this album to begin with but I've added it to my rotation now.
Very good live album.
Veldig kult, men blir litt for mye av det gode. Svak 4'er
The 4 songs on Spotify gave me enough to know this is a killer live album!
Was vacillating between a high 7/10 and low 8/10 for this one, but settled on 8/10 just because it was sheer fun! There were definitely a few throwaway numbers in here, but overall the energy and soloing were on point for a hard rock live record.
Wow, never even considered Thin Lizzy as a live band. They are smokin!
Livegesang der Wahnsinn.
The boys are back in town, miguel
Great live band. There's a lot more to TL than I previously thought.
Great live album!
Actual Rating: 4.5/5
Really enjoyed this album
Good
Something very special about these songs played live. They can be really turgid from the studio. Apart from the stupid joke about a bit of Irish, this whole performance feels flawless, and there's the epic moment when one song thumps into boys are back in town. Ridiculous drum solo gets everyone fired up and then pure joy as the band members get introduced. Epic rock gig.
No lo terminé perdón pero estaba bueno 🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼
Guitar!!!
This is a great live album. The recording is clean, you can hear everything clearly, the band sounds great and you get audience banter. Great recording. It's a solid Thin Lizzy album, if they only picked one Thin Lizzy album this would be a great one. Kinda cheating as it's their hits and all that but still. It's a solid classic rock album. Worth the listen.
Very good
Normally not a huge fan of live albums but this was pretty decent.
Great example of what a live album should be, a lot of fun, transitions between big hits were seamless and some great performances
Not as polished as their studio ouvre, but pure class.
I liked this more than I thought I would. Maybe influenced by Phil Lynott being Irish.
This was a fun live album to listen to, full of great guitar solos. Sounds really clean for a live album, but also I know there was some studio over-dubbing. Favorite Track - Massacre Least Favorite Track - Dancing in the Moonlight ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Chock full of bangers
I haven't listened to much Thin Lizzy so I wonder what I'd think of a studio album by them, but this was pretty good for this style! Great vocal performances throughout, and some incredible guitar parts too. Favorites: The Boys Are Back In Town, Are You Ready
Not the biggest fan of live albums, but I have to admit Thin Lizzy works best in this format. This is pretty much the perfect encapsulation of what made them special (although I would have included Whiskey in a Jar in the setlist, but I ain't Phil). Anyway, Thin Lizzy rules, love the dueling lead guitars and Phil Lynott's singular vocal delivery, and to this day, no one has written a better song about the boys and their being back in town.
I used to have this on vinyl but realized I'll never really throw Thin Lizzy on that much. I like it once in awhile but honestly, this is probably the last time I'll ever listen to this start to finish again.
Irish Glam Rock at its finest. I love Thin Lizzy and this is surprisingly energetic and good to listen to Live album. It's missing "Whiskey in the Jar" which is arguably one of their best songs since it's a rock & roll reimagining of an old Irish ballad (despite the band hating it). It does have the highly recognizable and popular "Jailbreak", "The Boys are Back in Town", and "Dancing in the Moonlight". Also, "Cowboy Song" into "The Boys are Back in Town" is one of the greatest Live transitions I've ever heard in my life. A little history on this album, this tour was performed in one of the most significant and violent years in recent Irish history. The La Mon Restaurant Bombing by the IRA, daily killings of RUC soldiers, and Ireland broke from the British Sterling becoming economically independent of Britain. Ireland was baring its teeth and clawing at the hand that had been strangling it for so long. Thin Lizzy was an icon of the youth and this album in particular launched them far into the clouds of viral and sensational music. All that said, knowing that their home country was in political unrest and they just kept on rocking is the soul of rock music. This album is a 9/10 for me.
Ma foi plutôt sympa, des sonorités classiques mais intemporelles
Un moment agréable, le fait que ça soit en live ajoute beaucoup plus que si j'écoutais un album studio, les musiques donnent du pep's et c'est Irlandais bordellll
A truly great live album. Not without controversy as no one knows how much it was later overdubbed. Regardless, it still sounds fantastic and really captures the excitement of the band live
Nu får Josef passa sig, för nu blev pappa på ölhävarhumör.
Basically Foo Fighters if Foo Fighters weren’t shit.
Good Choice!
Put this one off for ages thinking I wouldn't really enjoy it - I think I've heard Boys are Back one too many times for my liking - but this was face-meltingly good. Just oozes with 70s hard rock sexiness and the sound quality is so good it's hard to believe this is a live album. Stunning work
live albums are fun! 3.5 or something
These guys can jam & shredd with the best of them. Not all the songs are killer but still good notheless. Singer has an amazing voice that stays consistent throughout. ROCK ON! 4
I had previously only known 1 song from this band, so I was pleasantly surprised with how much i enjoyed this! The energy throughout this album was so upbeat and fun, it was genuinely so enjoyable.
Tremendos músicos
I liked this album. It's late rock n roll but Phil Lynett was committed in a consumable way. He is legendary in Dublin.
Liked it a lot!
Enjoyed the album. Wasn’t a band I’d heard of before. 7/10
I was blown away when this album started, so many songs I've already heard, but these live version are even better. Makes me want to relisten to some thin lizzy songs. Amazing energy, vocal, instruments etc... In the second half it does get a bit less interesting, as not their best songs get played. Liked this album. 1. Southbound 2. Jailbreak 3. Still in love with you
Great record, i think still in love with you is one of the best songs ive ever heard
It's live, and it's too long, both negative criteria for me. BUT it can be really fun at times.
Really great rock n roll. Solid riffs, excellent guitar solos, and feel-good vocals. That they performed this live is a testament to their skill as musicians and performers.
Bon petit hard-rock gentil des années 70.
Awesome energy! Perfect example of rock during this time and easy to see how they influenced other bands of the ‘80’s
This rocked so much more than I expected. Not typically a live album guy but they bring it here. Still in love with you was such a jam
I think the epic style suits them well, they did glam perfectly good. I still think other songs like Cowboy and The Boys are Back in Town are great, but I prefer Emerald and Southbound. The vocals were great, specially in the melencholic tracks. Also, I (mostly) love the way Lynott writes. I have so many highlights: Suicide, Massacre, Southbound. I loved the drum solo in Sha-La-La, and my favourite was Still in Love With You. It blew me away, and it reminded me of some songs by Bowie.
Hmm this is strange. Why would they choose a double live album instead of some of their great studio albums? I guess you get a bunch of their best tunes all in one place and the quality of their live performance sounds great. Still doesn’t explain why this is on here and an album so revered as Kiss Alive is not on this list. I can think of many albums on this list that can be replaced by 2 or 3 studio albums by Thin Lizzy. Just adds to the frustration of this list.
Great Band, Great Live Record. Highlights: Jailbreak, Dancing In The Moonlight, Southbound, Rosalie/Cowgirl’s Song, Massacre, Cowboy Song, Boys Are Back In Town and Don’t Believe a Word. Solid 4.3
Nunca los había escuchado, álbum a considerar escucharlo de nuevo
What a rollicking good time, and I mean that literally.. It sounds like these guys were having the night(s) of their lives. Tons of energy that's got me swaying in my kitchen like a madman. Spins: 2 Playlist Additions - Jailbreak - Still In Love With You - Cowboy Song - The Boys Are Back In Town
Lizzy at the height of their powers must have a really been a must see concert. Great energy and musicianship. Favorite track: Still In Love With You
Great live show.
Never listened to them before but this was fun. I just like big guitar stuff sometimes.
I was so ready to talk about how live albums are the worst and I’ll never like them, but fuck, this was so cool.
A live album as a compilation of live shows ! Its like a greatest hits and I don't think it belongs here. Despite being upset with this, I've enjoyed the album, Gary's guitar did not disapoint
Tank you, tin lizzie, very cull
A fun energetic album filled with hardish rock. Everything about it is pretty good, although they don't do anything new or daring.
A fun hard-rock album, which is on the softer side of hard-rock, though that may be a more modern perspective. The concept of overdubbing a live album quite interesting, but it is a smart solution to their problem of limited time.
Hell yeah.
Awesome! Some classic bangers after a few samey songs at the start. A very long album but enjoyable all the way through.
As a bass player, everybody always talks about how awesome Phil Lynott is as a frontman. I liked this being a live show so you could hear the dynamics of the band and crowd. The dual lead guitars is such a great sound.
wasn't expecting to like this as much as i did! jailbreak is great. i will probably listen to the studio versions of these songs later.
Once again, a very enjoyable live album. Is there a list of like '101 live albums to listen to before you die' as I might prefer that overall. Lots of energy and loads of fun and some good guitar playing.
Usually I don't enjoy live albums, but this one was an exception. 4 stars.
If this is the closest I'll get to seeing Thin Lizzy live, I'm still a happy man. It's packed to the brim with many classics and shows the band at their peak. I know a lot of it was overdubbed in the studio but that never detracts from the quality or the energy.
This was surprisingly solid for a live album
In general, I tend to not listen to live albums. There are very few live albums that I'd reach for over a regular studio album, but this one is great. Outside of their big hit, I couldn't name you one of their songs, but I'm excited to dig into more of their stuff after this. 4 Stars
1978. Various archive recordings from earlier tours.
Amazing rock album
J’aime bien le son !
класно, але не настільки, щоби я пищала тож лише 4 зірки.
One of the albums that got me into heavy rock, introduced me to Iron Maiden (dual lead guitars), and so forth. Of all the tracks Dancing in the Moonlight used to be my favourite. Today, getting back to this album, I can't help to experience the sound somehow a little hollow. Like there's something, maybe an added instrument, to make the sound more full. Still, a great album.
I was living for those live guitar riffs.
Though I didn't know any of the songs on here before listening to it, there were still plenty of energetic and good performances (I especially liked the drummer on multiple tracks)
Good hard rock, but unfortunately the sound quality isn't great. That said, it's a fun listen. Great guitar parts and maybe the world's only Black, Irish frontman lead the way. A few of the songs reminded me of Foghat.
This rocked. I only knew a couple of songs but enjoyed most of this even if it was a little long overall. The guitar solo in “Still in Love With You” was excellent.
I think the live albums have been pretty good and this should not be punished for its place in the lineup! That said some parts of it were long and not overly engaging but other parts! Were good!!
No. 379/1001 Jailbreak 4/5 Emerald 3/5 Southbound 4/5 Rosalie 4/5 Dancing In The Moonlight 4/5 Massacre 4/5 Still In Love With You 4/5 Jhonny The Fox Meets Jimmy 3/5 Cowboy Song 4/5 The Boys Are Back In Town 4/5 Don't Believe A Word 3/5 Warriors 3/5 Are You Ready? 4/5 Suicide 4/5 Sha-La-La 3/5 Baby Drives Me Crazy 3/5 The Rocker 3/5 Average: 3,59 Not the biggest fan of live albums, but this was actually really good.
Wow! I bet this was awesome to hear live! Sounds like they put on a great show.
Favorites: Favorites: Southbound Cowboy Song The Boys are Back in Town Don't Believe a Word
This might be my favorite live album we've gotten so far. The only song that I recognized was The Boys are Back in Town, which sounded alarmingly similar to the studio version that I'm familiar with, which makes me think the concert itself would have been boring but the record turned out alright.
I'm LOVING this vibe - I don't care if it's been dubbed over, a really good album for solos and also just to listen to
I just knew a pair of Thin Lizzy songs and I was not a great fan of the band, but listen this album changed my mind. A great band, pure rock and roll, fun, full of energy, cool to sing along... I'ma new Thin Lizzy fan
Familiar with this one. A great heavy band with a not inconsiderable gift for pop tunes.
I was surprised by this one- powerful rock music with really skilled instrumentation. A lot of energy and some big hits
Sounds like a show I would have had a lot of fun at. I can see why this is on the list
"Live And Dangerous" ticks off all the boxes on what a great live album is supposed to be. Energetic, it offers fresh takes on their songs, even if some of it was overdubbed in a studio. The band performs strongly, combining well-mixed instrumentals with catchy melodies.
Thin Lizzy is terribly underappreciated so I'm glad they made the list. A live double album is an interesting choice though. Jailbreak is an awesome song. Did Phil Lynott invent the "little Irish in ya?" joke? This Bob Segar cover is as much Segar as is on the whole list. I don't understand rock musicians' fascination with the Old West. These guys are more intense about it than most (excluding terrible Bon Jovi). Cowboy Song and anything by Bob Dylan gets a pass on the Old West thing. They must have been hyped to play live because it feels like every song is just a hair faster than the album version. The Boys are Back in Town is their biggest hit but not even close to the most listened to song off this album. The drum solo on Sha-La-La is too long. Huey Lewis was the harmonica player for the show they recorded Baby Drives Me Crazy at!
Very solid live album. You could really feel the energy on The Boys Are Back In Town, and Still in Love with You is beautiful. Definitely recommend.
A kickass live album that really deepened my appreciation for Thin Lizzy. Lots to love here.
outro album ao vivo -_- FAVS (top 3): rosalie (cowgirls song), still in love with you, cowboy song mençoes honrosas: jailbreak, southbound, massacre, the boys are back in town, sha-la-la, the rocker GENTE mds MUITO bom que guitarras deliciosas mt bom, nao senti mt a pegada do ao vivo, so qnd ele falava aii essa é a musica sei la oq mas de todo jeito tudo bem; engraçado q tem 1h16 e passou rapidinho... qnd é bom é assim msm nota final: 4/5
Great band with lots of hits. But I kind of wish they had chosen one or two studio albums of Thin Lizzy, instead of only this one live album.
Pretty fun live album
First exposure outside of their biggest songs, and I'm genuinely surprised how good Thin Lizzy are.
This was really great. I love live albums, and this one did not disappoint. I was impressed with the band, who I feel like I'd vaguely heard of but who hadn't really stuck with me. They're rock-solid, and I could totally see myself reaching for them more often than a lot of the other classic rock out there.
Who knew I should have explored them more after hearing their one big song
Top notch live album.
Thin Lizzy rips, one of the better live albums we’ve gotten on imo
When I used to hunt out records, back in the 80s, this was one of the albums most likely to be in a bargain bucket for 50p. I was tempted many time to buy a copy, as many of my favourite albums came from bargain buckets. In fact an album appearing there didn't necessarily mean it was a bad album, maybe just too many copies were pressed. Thin Lizzy were similar to UFO, Iron Maiden, Judas Priest, and even Motorhead, hard rock, but not part of the New Wave of British Heavy Metal, more of an influence upon this movement. I wonder if they had persisted longer, if they would have moved to more of a heavy metal sound, or stuck to their blues/ hard rock/ soul origins. Anyway, this is a fine studio album with a few background crowd noises to make it sound like a live album. There's a rawness to the sound that is compelling, and the material never gets boring. It's a basic two-lead guitar, bass, drums, vocals sound from this era, but I'm impressed that almost every song was written by the band themselves. Four stars.
One of the most fun albums I've heard, the transition on Cowboy song into the boys are back in town was great. His quote after the first song set the tone for the album lol. Great stuff
This album was fantastic. I knew 2 or 3 songs and it flowed so well.
Good album
Thin Lizzy rules!
It's a cracking album but it so obviously NOT live
It's great,it's amazing
Very cool, I only knew a couple of hits of Thin Lizzy. I really enjoyed this album, while usually I am not too big on live albums. Will definitely put some of these in some playlists, and explore their discography.
A good album, I liked Emerald, Rosalie and the Boys Are Back In Town the most.
Not usually a fan of live albums, but this was just too good! Fun and rockin’ all the way through.
Thin Lizzy was the nickname given to Len Houmous’ 25th wife. Liz McColghan 4.0 8/17 Johnny The Fox
Classic dad rock, can't go wrong The guitar solo in Still In Love With You was beautiful, would've been life changing hearing that live Why did I think the backstreet boys sang The Boys are Back in Town whoops Favourite: Dancing in the moonlight (the sax :PPP)
All the songs are amazing but I think that it is overrated by critics who put this as the groups best album. I think the songs are kind of all over the place switching so much and I like an album with more flow like peppers or abbey road.
Powerful
Great live album, one of the best of the period
I am a big fan. Best album so far on my list. Irish rock is awesome.
Color me surprised -- another MUST HEAR live album from the golden days of garage rock. Don't get me wrong, I love live music and listen to a lot of lesser quality recordings of my own volition, but its really hard for me to justify live albums when the artist isn't doing anything to innovate on the source material. Sure you get a glimpse at the energy of the event and you get some taste for the crust that comes with a live rendition. In some (rare) events you can be amazed to find that the vocals and musical craftsmanship hold up to the exposure of live recording. But almost never is the experienced heightened by the stripping of studio magic (outside of jazz and other improvisational forms where it is truly a one-of-one experience). I'll say that this is definitely a case where the quality is surprisingly high in translation. The vocals sound great and the band is tight and responsive with decent mixing. It almost makes me question what sort of studio treatment this might have gotten after the original take -- not that it really matters. In any event, this is some high quality working on your car music. Crusty guitars and driving rhythms that make for a solid time. Definitely some quality licks to be had here. And despite my intro doubting the merits of live albums on this list I'm hard pressed to give this lower than a 4. Would have loved to be at this show.
Live album is kinda lame. And while it's lame to have live ones on here this rocked. Low 4.
I always shudder a little at the sight of the 70's rock double album format but Thin Lizzy is good stuff. The bass guitar on this version of The Boys Are Back In Town is absolutely pummeling brother. The drums on Sha-La-La gave me no choice but to add another star.
i had heard the boys are back in town before and a lot of the songs give off the same vibe
I like a lot of this old-school ’70s rock, but as a live album, some of these songs just don’t hit the same. I’m sure the shows these recordings came from were great, but the album itself sounds pretty rough. With better sound quality, this easily could’ve been a 5-star record.
I suppose I can recognise very good musicianship here and certainly a distinctive sound. Frantic guitar solos are not my thing, but the Thin Lizzy sound doesn't over rely on this cliché. I like it least when it does but there is otherwise consistency and variety here. Rock for sure, but not too heavy. The singles are strong and the ballads add something. I'm not the greatest fan of a live album but everyone on stage and in the audience seems to be having a great time.
Thin Lizzy has largely escaped me until now. I've come across interviews with Phil Lynott and always thought him an intelligent, proud Irishman, but I never quite connected him with Thin Lizzy. If anything, I imagined him as a folk-rock musician. This was a welcome correction: he and his bandmates get stadium rock right. I’ll gladly return to this when I’m in the mood for an hour of solid hard rock.
Very enjoyable!
Live albums are always a hit-or-miss affair, and I braced for the worst when Phil Lynott implored the crowd for help and the “put your hands together” clapping rose in my ear on the leadoff track, “Jailbreak.” Despite a few other moments of audio that don’t translate outside the venue, it’s solid. The playing is tight, it’s well recorded, with crowd noise minimized except for applause, Lynott is in good voice, and it’s a good sampler of Thin Lizzy’s quality. Glad to hear “Massacre” included; it’s a fuckin' jam. Bonus points for their excellent cover of the early Bob Seger song, “Rosalie.”
It is a solid live record and very representative of Thin Lizzy's live shows at the time. The record sounds good, feels right and has none other than Huey Lewis on harmonica on "Baby Drives Me Crazy". A great live record, no doubt. There is some debate as to how much studio magic was applied to make this sound the way it does and how accurate the credits as to where the songs were recorded are, but it becomes irrelevant when one listens to the record. Like many 70's live records, it was touched up, sure. But it's still great.
Sounds amazingly full and robust for nearly 50 year old recording! I listened to the "Super Deluxe" 4CD version of the record, nearly got to the end of second CD, but that was it. Anyway, you can hear what this band did to early heavy metal, Iron Maiden has taken a lot to their playbook from these guys. It's nearly Motörhead level of influence, personally not as important tho.
This was pretty good, actually. I didn’t expect to like it so much. Stand-outs - Dancing In The Moonlight (It’s Caught Me In It’s Spotlight) - Still In Love With You
3.5
lowk slapped
Surprising to see a live album on here. I don't usually listen to Thin Lizzy but there were a few good songs on here I'd listen to the studio recording of
Super energetic hard rock album, with lots of classic songs. What’s not to love? It seems rumours of it’s over-production have probably been exaggerated - Tony Visconti made some tweaks no doubt, but I don’t think that takes away from this snapshot of a band at the peak of their ability.
God damn are there just some fun fucking albums to have on a Friday. Fuck all you prog rock bros telling me it isn’t smart enough, sometimes you just want to have fun and crush a rack with your boys and this is the perfect music to do it to.
Ever wonder why Metallica covered an Irish folk song? Yeah, that's actually more of a cover of the Thin Lizzy version than it is their own rendition of the traditional song. Second thing you need to know: Phil Lynott is cool as hell. Great performer, good frontman, good singer and bass player. Thin Lizzy really blew up the notion of twin, harmonizing guitars in a hard rock band (though they don't sound so heavy, these days), but the heart of the band was Lynott. The album's pretty good. I'm not a Thin Lizzy stan but it's reflective of a pretty accomplished touring band around their peak. Plus, if you write 'The Boys Are Back In Town', we put some respect on your name. It's a live one, so half of you are going to hate that, but it's fun. Let's call it a 4, I guess. Why not, Lynott?
2026.01.24.
Álbum muito bom. Scott Gorham e Brian Robertson mandam muito bem nas guitarras. Phil Lynott também vai bem no baixo e vocal. Músicas boas do início ao fim, mas "Emerald", "Still In Love With You" e principalmente "The Boys Are Back In Town" foram os destaques para mim.
Decent
The guitar is very good, I think this is pretty cool not necessarily exceptional, I’m assuming this is because it was recorded live. The Instrumentals are great, does get a little boring as it goes on, all a very very similar vibe. Didn't know the boys are back in town was from this artist, pretty cool. Acceptable, 7/10 I would listen to 1 or two of these songs willingily and the rest would be fine unwillingly
This was great! I did get kind of bored of it halfway through, though.
This is a kick ass live record. The Platonic ideal of the rock guitar sound. Last note of "Cowboy Song" right into "Boys are Back in Town" fucking rules.
Never thought much of Thin Lizzy, but this actually rocked
Fantastic. Exceeded expectations
Solid without filler. I generally don't connect with live albums, mostly come away with a 'you had to be there' feeling. This is some good stuff, band is firing on all cylinders and it's m-fing Phil Lynott!
I did not have high hopes for this album. I already have some strong opinions on whether live albums should even count (although I did concede for Johnny Cash's "At Folsom Prison") and on top of that it's not actually a recording of a single live performance - It's a mish-mash of live recordings from over the years that have then also been overdubbed. This leads into my second issue, being compilations/greatest hits albums. These also don't really belong on here because they fly in the face of what it really means to be an album, and not just a bunch of disparate songs. This album gets around that issue in exactly the way it avoids being a straight up live album - by being a curated selection of recordings, assembled with purpose and intention. You see despite all of my misgivings and apprehension going in... it's just great! Fun from start to finish, (though a little long) and it's hard not to get into "The Boys Are Back In Town". It's absolutely worthy of a good score if you only consider how enjoyable it is to listen to, and so it earns a 4 from me.
Not usually my taste, but the songs on this album were brilliant. The vocals and guitars are pretty iconic and it's impossible but to enjoy. Full of a lot of charm.
Overall not a bad album with some songs that are well known and entertain. Nostalgic album that has a feel good vibe.
Did not know the band except for the one song. Positively surprised. 8/10
This was actually really good. The fact it was a live album was awesome. Huey Lewis on the harmonica? I would listen to this again. Might print a photo of them and put it on my wall. Can’t listen to it all the time, but it’s good
On hyvä.
There's only 4 songs available on Spotify, but I get the drift. 4/5
Really solid live album, didn’t love all of these songs necessarily, but the recording and everything is great. Solid craftsmanship, musicianship, everything. Four out of five.
I did look at this album and wince a little. 76 minutes long and for a band I know all of one song for? I expected very little. It may be for that reason that I was so pleasantly surprised. This album was solo on solo on solo and I didn't even flinch for the first full hour thinking about how long the album was. I do think if the album were 15 minutes shorter I'd be debating a 5 but otherwise this was electric. Well worth a listen of any rock fan, aware of Thin Lizzy or not. I also won't actively fault it for being too long seeing as this is a compilation of live performances and not exactly made to be digested in one sitting like most albums and so I will view it more as that, a list of their best performances on this said tour. The musicianship is really great, vocals and instrumentals are all top notch and while it does flow a little strangely there are some songs in here that are absolute gems I would now have killed to see live. You can't quite rate a live album like a standard album but in terms of sheer enjoyment and listenability this is really good. So much so I intended to listen to this while doing other things and multiple times stopped my main activity to lean back and just breath in the album. Best songs: Dancing in the Moonlight Worst songs: N/A Rank compared to everything else so far: 20/50 (below Franz Ferdinand, above 2112)
Live albums are so hit or miss, but if they're on this list I assume they will be great or at least unique. Reading up on it I saw that parts of some of the tracks were dubbed over in production of the album.... so not quite all-the-way live, I guess. Live and Dangerous starts off strong and just keeps going. It's pretty good. I don't even listen to Thin Lizzy, but this is a quality album. I'd expect it to be if I'm picking and choosing and dubbing from a selection of live tracks, though. Its got everything you want in a classic rock album. Lots of face melting solos. Good pacing. Nice energy. Yeah, it's really solid. Favorites are "Jailbreak" "Rosalie/Cowgirls Song" "Massacre" and "The Boys Are Back in Town" - everyone likes a classic. It's a double album. It's long, probably a bit too long, as it starts to drag after "Warrior." Some really good old school tracks though. A definite 4/5 for me.
Great voice
4 is maybe a little generous but man they can shred like crazy. Great stage presence, high quality recording, fun all the way through.
I wasn't aware Thin Lizzy had a live album and where has it been all my life. My goodness, this absolutely rips. The jam at the end of I'm Still In Love With You was unexpectedly awesome.
I was kind of skeptical when I saw it was a live album but it slayed
Let’s Rock!
really epic live album, really enjoyed it all
Energetic, love that it's live, i liked most riffs and solos
Pure, unadulterated 70s heavy metal/blues. A fine collection of live performances across multiple live shows.
Hell yeah get this shit on lego rock band
The boys are in their element. Look, if you hate having a good time, give this a bad score. But if you love to party, this is your huckleberry.
