fantastic live album

I love the rocking energy of this one. Great stuff!

Some great classic rock in here, plus I love when live albums include some dialogue from the concert.

Dang, it's a good concert album and 'Still in Love with You" is a great rock ballad, which I don't think I've ever heard before. Also, I didn't realize how much of The Will To Live by Titus Andronicus was influenced by Thin Lizzy.

That guitar work!!

spettacolo

kinda love it ngl !

Okay you know what! I thought it was good. I don't care about the live or not debacle. Solid classic rock with some solid covers, a perfectly good listen for the genre.

Great live rock and roll, but too short.

Outstanding live album

I didn't know I was a fan. This kept getting better and better. 4/5

Huge fan of Allison. Pretty good, enjoyed the guitar riffs

Rockin stuff. Was not expecting a Huey Lewis shout out in here.

it was pretyt good icl

👍🏻

GREAT live album

the transition from cowboy to boys back was so smooth

Excellent pop rock album.

Good classic rock album.

honestly fun and intense the whole time. very good live album

So fun!! Just a great time all around. A great rock album to just enjoy the high energy and jam out. A great live album!!!!

If you can get past the sluggish part in the middle, the rest of the album sounds great, and I can feel myself rocking out in an '70s concert. Favorite Track: "The Boys Are Back In Town".

A band that should have been much bigger in North America than they were. Just wish a couple of their studio albums were on this list but this was solid for a live album. Criminally underrated.

Live as hell

301/1089 - This isn't my scene but it was pretty good overall.

Fun enough 70s rock that's improved by being live. The boys are back in town is enough of a banger to get it to 4.

No. 12 Awesome album. Such a distinctive sound, both musically and vocally. Dancing in the moonlight is the best song amongst many great songs.

While I was familiar with The Boys Are Back in Town I couldn't have told you who the band was. This album is now in my rotation list. Banger.

Great album, think definitely one that would have been incredible to see live! Some great instrumental solos!

Another live album! Well, this one is half-live I suppose as there are many overdubs. Sadly, this is the only entry for the great Thin Lizzy which will reflect in my rating. Probably deserving 4 stars, I know nearly half of the songs on this one and that's about all the songs I know from them haha.

This really goes

I liked this much more than I expected! They’re a bit Springsteen-y. I like.

108/1089 Quite enjoying these first 3 tracks so far. it feels/sounds quite like the precursor to today’s Sam Fenders etc, with a bit more richness that comes from the age and more original feel of the sound, if that makes any sense. It definitely doesn’t sound super live though This album was a really nice listen, it felt like a little time capsule and in the context of this project, I actually liked that it was a live album that didn’t sound too live. It felt more approachable and like a better representation of the music for a newcomer this way. faves: Cowboy Song, Massacre, Emerald, Jailbreak 70/100

Cmon the Boys are back in town live??? Instant 4

Huey Lewis on baby drives me crazy was awesome

The best live albums are the ones that feel the most immersive, the ones that put into the concert (or concerts as is the case here...and often). This puts hard rock at a decisive advantage because it sounds so fucking good when you play it loud. These albums are even better when the music itself is good and if I can say anything about Thin Lizzy, the songs kick ass. Whole first half up to the end of The Boys are Back in Town is just classic stuff. Awesome stuff. Favorite Tracks: Southbound, Rosalie/Cowgirl's Song, Massacre, The Boys Are Back in Town, The Rocker

Dancing in the Moonlight, Boys are back in town - great motorway driving

Thin Lizzy fucking rules. I normally don’t like live albums or double albums but this rocked.

THIN LIZZY!!!!11

An excellent collection of Thin Lizzy material, now how much is live we will never know.

Late 70s metal, hard rock. Irish rock band. Live album from various tour stops. Charismatic lead vocals, quite melodic. Very tame. Good classic rock. Of ‘Boys are back in town’ fame, album sounds exactly like that.

Bit long but pretty cool.

Great album; the boys are back in town

Sounds amazing for a live album! Good songs with a nice flow.

Pretty sick live album. Never really listened to much Thin Lizzy beyond Jailbreak and Boys Are Back in Town. They kinda frikken rock. That was fun.

I love this kind of live albums, full of electric energy, improvements on certain iconic songs, and elevated renditions of deep cuts.

Notable tracks: Dancing in the Moonlight, Jailbreak, The Boys Are Back in Town

Ashamed to have liked this so much. But here we are.

It's a fun and polished live album. Possibly the best live album on the list so far. 3.5/5. Raising to 4.

Just a phenomal live album. Phil Lynott was such a great front man, and the whole band is clearly just keyed in together and going all out for the full performance. So much energy comes through. Awesome call out at the end to Huey Lewis who was their harmonica player!

7.5/10 Favourite: Still in Love With You Least Favourite: Suicide

As someone who’s only familiar with their hits, I was pleasantly surprised that I enjoyed this album thoroughly. It has a nice energy and pacing. I know it was edited and crafted to be this way, but that was the norm back then.

I bought this LP in (probably) 1979. I don't remember what prompted me to buy it, but it was my first Thin Lizzy album...so I have history with this release. And did I ever listen to it. However, that album did not survive my moving to Germany, somewhere lost before moving there or back. Too bad. It would be a jewel in my LP collection. So it goes...now it's just an MP3 (with accumulated memories). A strong 4.

That was fun! Live albums are certainly their own kind of album, but they give a more interactive vibe which is nice. I liked most of the songs and The Boys Are Back in Town is a classic.

I was bracing for what I thought a 70s Irish heavy metal/ rock band would sound like and instead was pleasantly surprised. Super fun - really liked the energy and WHO KNEW this is who sang The Boys are Back in Town.

Thin Lizzy is a very fun band. I nudged the volume up once, twice, three times. Does TL have the most songs that have the same names as other famous songs but aren’t actually the same song? Sounds like a good Masters thesis.

exceptional stuff

More like phat lizzy

enjoyed it more than i realized i would

I remember this album playing in a warm pub in Hastings a few years ago. I’d been playing acoustic guitar in various locations alongside my band mates as part of a city-wide unplugged festival. After hearing myself play Slowdive on acoustic guitar for five hours, Phil Lynott’s self-assuredness and immediate charisma was a breath of fresh air. As it would be any day, I suppose. Thin Lizzy is the very definition of vital – a band who, you get the impression, couldn’t possibly be restrained. They’re just so perfectly buoyant; so absolutely full of life. Aside from “Jailbreak” (choon) and “The Boys Are Back In Town” (chooooon), “Massacre” stands out – those duelling guitars, galloping rhythms, palm muted licks and demonstrative pinch harmonics thrown together to create an atmospheric, angular rock and roll belter. Phil Lynott might have lived a little too much too quickly, but it’d be fair to say he put his short years, creatively at least, to good use. Live, maybe (as if that matters; this record stands next to “Rust Never Sleeps” in the ends justifying the means stakes). But dangerous (to themselves as much as everyone else)? For sure. And if you can’t stay alive, you should definitely try to stay dangerous.

really good live album Highlights are: "Still in Love with You" The change from "Cowboy Song" to "The Boys are Back in Town" 8

Great stuff, one of the greatest bands ever

3.5 - Good

Damn shocked how much I like this for a live record which is not my go to

This list never disappoints when it comes to live albums. I love Thin Lizzy, hard rockin’ music and amazing guitar solos. I do think the singers voice sounds better in studio recordings, but overall I can’t complain. I enjoyed the album. Standout Songs: Jailbreak Emerald Rosalie (Cowgirl's Song) Johnny The Fox Meets Jimmy The Weed The Boys Are Back In Town Don't Believe A Word Are You Ready?

Pretty good actually. Some incredible guitarwork.

Solid, not a down moment.

This was a fantastic live album! The energy was great throughout. I would give it a 4.5 if possible.

Not a huge fan of live albums, or Thin Lizzy - at least I thought.... This whole record slaps!

The audience chanting "Glizzy" was kind of odd. Do they not feed these guys?

Some slammin' riffs. Sure, every song sounds exactly like the boys are back in town, but if it ain't broke, don't fix it.

- the Spotify link listed here sends you to a version with only four songs for some reason (even though it says at the bottom of that song list that it's 17 tracks...). the four-album version is not actually listed in the artist's discography as a different version, either -- just the longer one, so I have no idea where the link to the four-track one came from. very weird, but either way, the site link is not correct - I love that live albums have been included in list. I would have dismissed the studio version of a track like "Still in Love With You" as a cheesy rock ballad (like "Every Rose Has Its Thorn," etc.), but the live version almost takes it out of that context so I can enjoy the musicality more on its own instead of being "just another" rock song from the time period - the frontman really knows how to interact with the audience, and I can tell many of these songs were extended for the live show with longer jam sessions -- what a way to treat a fan. (and we love a band that thanks their crew at the end of the night) - thin lizzy's unique brand of talk-singing is made for live performances. that awful moment when you find out the lead singer actually can't find pitches and must have had a lot of help in the studio to produce good-sounding vocals (or were just dancing or moving around too much in the live recording to sound good) is enough to ruin a band for me, but luckily "singing" like this is basically foolproof - this album definitely exceeded my expectations and improved my impression of this band. this is summer-night-drive-with-the-windows-down music I'd definitely listen to again

great metal and rock album

Highlight Song/s: Emerald, Dancing In The Moonlight, Massacre and The Boys Are Back In Town All of these tunes are really solid - coming from somebody who's only listened to Jailbreak (song), The Boys Are Back In Town and Bad Reputation (song.) I definitely ought to check out Jailbreak (album) at least! I really do see why these guys were worshiped by 80s hard rock and metal bands; this has opened my eyes a LOT. Some other thoughts: Really sick transition between Dancing In The Moonlight and Massacre as well as, Cowboy Song to The Boys Are Back In Town. The guitar solos are so so good. Okay, I really do gotta check them out.

My main concern with any live album is, "how well done is the recording?" Everything on this album is crystal clear. Apparently they did some post dubbing to clean up the sound a bit. Extra backing vocals, and cleaner guitar solos. It's hard to tell what they added. But the album sounds good, so it'll pass. My next question: "Is the music any good?" Short answer, yes. I'm not too familiar with Thin Lizzy, but I enjoy that classic rock style. They go heavy on the guitar solos, and add catchy hooks with good harmony. Very well done overall. Will probably add "The Boys Are Back in Town" to the playlist.

I generally avoid compilations and live albums. Feels like cheating to me, in terms of a an earnest listening experience with an artist. I'd rather listen to the album a song was released on, to hear it in context with the rest of that album. That said, this was a pretty good live album. It sounded good, it was a good selection of songs.

Not usually a fan of a live albums, but in this case, I'm not sure how live this album actually is. Definitely fairly heavily overdubbed. The solos sound raw though, and there were some great ones through out. Some great tunes too.

At first I was like WTF is this???! Then gave it a listen and I enjoyed I’ve heard a lot of there songs before like Boys are back in town

One of the better live albums I’ve heard

zammmm prison escape

Maybe it was the time of day when I was listening to it--grilling for dinner, but I really enjoyed the album. Plus Huey Lewis

Very good!

I was born in ‘89, but this album took me back to a time I can never go to. I could picture myself in the crowd having a great time.

I was skeptical at the start... but they indeed played a hell of a concert. This is an album that should be listened to as an album, of course. Let it get you into its groove.

Good rock tunes thx !

This is what live albums are all about

Better than I thought

Amazing how well the songs are executed live.

Overall a fun and pretty high energy album, didn't realize how much I would enjoy certain tracks. The live performance of "the boys are back in town" is very lack luster however.

Great performance. Good songs and energy. Know the band but they have new depth for me here.

Lynott sounds so powerful live. Very atmospheric and impresionante. Yeah, Thin Lizzy are undeniable here

Good. ★★★★

I liked this a lot. I've just been loving guitar rock lately and these guys are really good at it.

I thought while listening that this was incredibly well recorded for a live album, only to read that it's mostly overdubs. Still, a great vibe and some brilliant songs and performances. It does start to drag in a few places, and the extended extra extra edition goes on way too long, but otherwise a perfect example of Phil Lynott's work. Albeit it reminds me of Abba in a few places.

Wish the recording quality could have been better.

Couple of the songs I have heard before and like and it was cool to listen to the new ones. It gets to be where they all sound the same though at the end of the album. Still, love the driving riffs and bass.

A fun romp, better than expected! Quite enjoyed the initial “jailbreak”, “Rosalie / cowgirls song” and “the boys are back in town”.

Classic songs!

Huge influence on a lot of stuff I love including one of my favorite bands of all time (The Hold Steady), Phil Lynott was so effortlessly cool and I love how much his bass playing stands out here. Some classic tracks I knew, others I didn't - Emerald was a standout that I hadn't heard before. Band is super tight, ripping guitar solos (overdubs be damned), great energy.

Surprised by this one, never heard Thin Lizzy before. Really cool, energetic album, perfect companion for my run

I wasn't aware of these guys from their name initially and I felt quite foolish realizing who they were as I listened. Sure this may not be the most original act out there but who gives a crap when you can riff that well on the guitar. The funky edge to a lot of this really gels with me too, combine that with a really stellar live recording and you have an easy hit for me.

Prior to this, I didn’t think that much of Thin Lizzy. I knew their big hits and didn’t mind them. After listening to this, I was absolutely charmed by Phil Lynott and I was absolutely blown away by the highlights on here. It’s not the best live album I’ve ever heard but goddamn this is very entertaining. There are a couple of transitions here that are insane and the limited chatter from Lynott is very fun, especially the one at the start of Emerald. Highlights: Jailbreak, Emerald, Still In Love With You, Cowboy Song, The Boys Are Back In Town, Suicide

I knew Thin Lizzy from the radio classics, The Boys Are Back In Town and Jailbreak, but I forgot they also did Cowboy Song and Dancing In The Moonlight. So many good songs on this album.

Pretty darn good rock album. I don't have many notes. It ran a little long, but it was good enough to warrant the length. As I've mentioned before, I gotta knock a few points off for it being a live album given it's really only capturing half of what's happening. There apparently is/was a little dispute about how much of the album is actually "live", though. Overall: 3.8/5

High-quality 70s hard rock album with strong guitar harmonies and vocals. There is a clear line from this to NWOBHM bands like Iron Maiden, Saxon, and Diamond Head, as well as many 80s hard rock bands such as Motley Crue and GNR.

Definitely. One of the better live rock albums, band in their prime hitting on all cylinders and running through the classics.

Ohhh, this doesn't sound like it's live but also: very fucking cool. Defs up my alley

Awesome stuff

went harder than I thought and had a lot really fun riffs that brought the fun factor higher than I thought

Fun classic rock!

I’d never heard of this group before, and yet what a group! Great classic rock, with every member playing perfectly his part, amazing solos and a (surprisingly) good sound for a live. Favorites : - Jailbreak (great start, directly announces what we’re about to hear: good classic rock) - Massacre (goes a bit harder than the rest, and it’s good) - Don’t believe a word (really cool song) - Sha la la (crazy drums solo)

Gran disc de rock. Directe boníssim i amb moltíssima energia.

really solid and fun! one of the coolest live records i’ve ever heard, made me dance the whole time

Quintessential live Thin Lizzy.. Tight, crisp two guitar attack . #RIPPhilLynott

A classic live album. Their music has always been a bit straightforward for me but there’s no doubting their influence.

“The Boys Are Back in Town” has been a personal favorite for decades, so my excitement for this album is unmatched so far. It’s rare that a band is as good live as they are in the studio, but Thin Lizzy might have done it. Great listen

Didn't expect much from a live album but this was actually so fucking good.

Thin Lizzy rocks.

I'm not a huge fan of live recorded music. This album was a good mix of songs I know and songs I hadn't. It was a nice listen.

I’m on the fence whether a Live album should be considered on a TOP album list as it is a compilation - however, this album is definitely a Top-10 Live album ever. The “overdub” criticism is way over blown. Some was done by the admission of the band and manager - however - this was common for 70’s “live” albums, including the “holy grail” of live albums - KISS Alive. This one rocks.

Jailbreak 3.8 Emerald 3.7 Southbound 3.7 Rosalie / Cowgirl's Song 4 Dancing in the Moonlight (It's Caught Me in Its Spotlight) 3.8 Massacre 3.5 Still in Love with You 4 Johnny the Fox Meets Jimmy the Weed 3.6 Cowboy Song 3.4 The Boys Are Back in Town 3.8 Don't Believe a Word 3.6 Warriors 3.5 Are Yoy Ready 3.3 Suicide 3.4 Sha La La 3.6 Baby Drives Me Crazy 3.8 The Rocker 3.8 Score:3.664705882

This is an amazing live album but for me it ain't quite a 5. That transition from Cowboy Song to The Boys is an all timer though.

Pretty cool, I liked the live commentary

Essentially a Thin Lizzy Greatest Hits (minus Whiskey In The Jar) played live to a very high standard. Great mix and performances, though none of the songs become definitive versions or transcend the originals. Good fun, well worth a listen.

I don’t love a live album but I actually really enjoyed this. The boys are back in town is an absolute classic. The rest flows very nicely together.

the boys are back in town! it's fun, pretty light hard rock, love the guitars.

an enjoyable live album, that is carried by the guitar performance

It feels a little weird having a live album on this list, but this was often called one of the greatest live albums of all time. This feels like a great show and a decent way to showcase some of their best songs. Looking into the band, I was surprised to learn they started more as a celtic band, with songs like Whiskey in the Jar, but they later focused on hard rock with The Boys Are Back in Town still being the most notable song from this band. Not going to lie, while I enjoyed this, the live recording felt a little flat (some of their guitars felt too blended together, which took away from having the dueling guitars), but as far as I can see live recordings like this wasn't yet a perfected artform. I realised I didn't know many of these songs, but I'm glad I listened to this. Standouts: Jailbreak, Massacre, Still in Love with You, The Boys Are Back in Town, Don't Believe a Word

Only 4 of the the 17 songs were available to listen to.

That was fun! I love their guitar sound!

Un genre de KISS 🥹 No me gusta arena rock, Alice no le gusta live albums. Par contre faut lui donner, super énergique, divertissant et assez virtuose et innovateur dans le style heavy metal vu l'époque. Dancing in the moonlight est pas pire pentoute. Par contre gâchée par Massacre avec les guits en harmonie de tierce mineure tout de suite après... quelle horreur. J'ai overdosé ça depuis longtemps avec And Justice for all and the likes.

The Boys Are Back In Town!

Bangers all day

Hell yeah. The official album of “dudes rock.” Favorites: “Jailbreak”; “The Boys Are Back in Town”; “Don’t Believe a Word”

Sounds good 👍

Whatever trickery might have happened in the studio it's still a great set and shows that they must have been electric on their day.

Excellent live album!

Álbum bem produzido e oferece uma boa experiência do show ao vivo. Letshuoer D-13.

Interesting

One of the best live albums

Good live album, but I am glad that I have listened to most of the Thin Lizzy hits before. Like a lot of concerts, I enjoy knowing what the song sounded like in the studio and contrasting it with their live abilities. The energy was high, the audience interaction was fun, and the extended sections were great. I want to give the studio version of Sha-la-la a listen because of how slowed down and open that song was live, one of the few I hadn't heard before

Just a great band. I don't really like live albums but this one is a pleasure.

Always a raucous treat

jailbreak is one of my favourite albums - this is an odd choice to represent the band, but it's still very good.

I liked this much more than I expected to. I thought it would be a slog to get through. I only know the rock radio hits and never thought much of them. Some of it is dated, but a lot holds up.

pretty decent album, much more than what i expected tbh!

great recording of the live performance, feel like there’s some albums where it’s clear this is “just” a live performance, but this one felt like it stands in its own right. this is likely helped by the fact that I don’t already know the songs; not picking up on minute differences i might if I knew the music. fan of this. specifically big fan of the tempo increase through the last bit of ‘im in love with you’. four stars i’d say! (my rating system is re-calibrating this is not in line with my previous..)

Just classics all the way down, love it

Oh ya it rocks

Great album! Classic rock the way it used to be. And the guitar playing is amazing!

It takes a pretty special band to make a live performance have just as strong an impact on newcomers as it does for their longstanding fans. Almost no one can pull it off. For Thin Lizzy, it’s no problem. They’re one of the few bands with a vocal and songwriting approach interesting enough to set free my inner guitar hero fan. It’s not wankery if it’s supported by rich melodies, complex harmonized guitar lines, and Phil Lynott’s soulful wailing voice.

I usually don't listen to live albums so this was an interesting experience. Different energy compared to studio albums. It was a pleasant surprise to hear "the boys are back in town".

i love lives it feels so raw. the music feels alive. his voice is so wonderful i love it so much.

really enjoyed the electric guitars. listening was a boost i needed today. i liked when they slowed it down with still in love with you. downloaded 2,3,4,7,11 and 14.

Audio was just ok but included classic songs.

If I’m being consistent this would be a 3/5 in line with Boston, Hotel California, Rush etc. I’ve always had a soft spot for Thin Lizzy though ever since I listened to them on mini disc. It’s also rare to hear a good live album 4/5

It's a decent live album and the extra album allowed fans the experience of a full Thin Lizzy concert. I wasn't blown away but it is consistently good.

This album made me nostalgic for the 70s and I was born in 1995.

3.5, nice guitar solo in song 2 and the boys r back in town is a classic

Everyone should have Thin Lizzy in their collection. Superbly executed hard rock and well crafted songs. Love the dual lead guitar format and driving bass. It's only rock and roll but I like it.

Great band at their peak. Really synthesizes all of the big rock genres of the time. Lynott was incredible. And I am a total sucker for dual lead guitars. Fun but never fluffy. For some reason the link in this app took me to a 20 minute version of the album... Weird! But the actual album is just way too long. Maybe cut 4 songs and it'd be perfect.

TIL Thin Lizzy had at least 15 other songs that weren't about the boys being back in town or a jailbreak. They're pretty good too!

Main takeaway from this is I need to check out more Thin Lizzy

Awesome og rock and roll

Fun album to listen to.⭐⭐⭐⭐

Sounds great, such a shame that it is hampered by being a live album. Though I will admit that it is quite well-put together, partly due to overdubbing and technical tinkering with the record.

I feel like them being Irish makes this much better for some reason. This kind of music gets stale very quickly and having something that's a little bit unique goes a long way. He also doesn't to that stupid Led Zeppelin/guns and roses vocal style, which is good I think. He actually sounds a lot like Jimi Hendrix in some places. Guitars are great. The live aspect is really cool actually, and doesn't really degrade the quality at all, and him saying stuff in between the songs is cool. Downsides are that its still a really dated style and aesthetic, but who cares I guess. Favourite songs: Jailbreak, southbound, the boys are back in town, warriors, probably some more that I missed. Overall around 7/10

4 estrelas - viva Lynott

So close to a 5. The energy and the songs were just stellar.

Pretty good 70s rock band. I enjoyed the album.

Fun album.

very tight live band; the boys are back in town!

Great live record

In 2015, Vice published Timothy Faust’s article “I Played ‘The Boys Are Back in Town’ on a Bar Jukebox Until I Got Kicked Out”. This piece of writing had such a profound effect on me and my best mate that we got matching tattoos as a result. I’ve never really listened to much Thin Lizzy though besides that song. Listening to this live album, I’m glad to know they’re an incredibly good band. This whole set slaps, they have great patter in between songs (more bands need to work on this), and this whole set sounds like a celebration of their whole career (I’m guessing; as established I don’t really know much about them). As a fellow bassist with far less charisma I love to see Lynott just absolutely killing it on bass while singing such great melodies; the man had it all in spades.

I said the boys are back in town.

Why live?

I don't think live albums should have been an option for this list either

I'm nearly done and loving this album. Rock is decreasingly a genre I'm in the mood to listen to, but I can see this going into the rotation, for when the mood does strike.

Awesome live album 4.0 stars

Man the Thin Lizzy set is too fun to deny. There were a couple track thoughout that I thought my rating would chill, but it would go back to high energy again and I'd be right back to a firm 4½. (9.5) ★★★★½ (9.5) ★★★★½

Very energetic, cool live album, but not my prefered style. 4.5 stars

This is a great live set from one of the best hard rock bands of the '70s. Great energetic versions of the band's best era. 4.5 stars.

4 stars. Typically, not a fan of live albums but, this one isn't too bad. I find the crowd is often louder than the music but not here. I know the big hits for them but, the other songs on this album are pretty good.

Classic rock from the late 1970s when it seems that everyone was making live albums. Not having gone to see Thin Lizzy, I don't know how well, (or how badly), this album captures their live performance, but it's a good live album.

I'm not sure I'd call this one of the greatest live albums of all time at least in a modern light, but it's a raucous journey start to end. Thin Lizzy has a lot more complexity to their music than one would think and it's great to hear a whole show 3.5/5

Obviously a relisten. A classic. Need to revisit with better audio and more attention

Kind of had a soft spot for Thin Lizzy, but not being much of a fan of live albums never really listened to this, though from reading around not sure how live the live albums of the 70s were, this one included. But as a listen it’s a rollicking ride, it’s fun. 4 Star.

Okay, this is 'heavier' than I expected. Definitely metal. Can see link between this and thrash and glam to come afterwards Cowboy Song sounds like metal Springsteen Pretty good really, and a live album too! With super tight performances Best track - Emerald?

jammer van die paar ballade-achtige nummers... voor de rest top plaat

Силна 4ка.

I enjoyed, riff killa !

Irish boys doing their best

Overdubs notwithstanding, this still sounds like a kickass show.

An iconic live album. Although the production has its flaws, due to the compiling of songs from various gigs. There is so much energy here from a band really at the top of their game

1. Jailbreak 2. Still In Love With You 3. The Boys Are Back In Town 4. Massacre 5. Emerald 6. Cowboy Song 7. Don't Believe A Word 8. Rosalie (Cowgirl's Song) 9. Baby Drives Me Crazy 10. Dancing In The Moonlight (It's Caught Me In It's Spotlight) 11. Are You Ready? 12. Warriors 13. Southbound 14. Suicide 15. Johnny The Fox Meets Jimmy The Weed 16. The Rocker 17. Sha-La-La

Fantastic "live" album from Thin Lizzy. Special mention for Still in Love with You, an absolute masterpiece. Song came on just as I was passing the Palais de Tokyo in Paris, the contemporary art mixed with such a song are a scene I will always remember. Dragged on a bit for me in the end, but overall great. Finished at the Louvre.

Liked this more than I thought I would.

I was surprised to find a live album on this list, but I was definitely not disappointed. Live And Dangerous is a very fun and high energy album that sounds like it would've been an awesome concert to attend. Favorite Song: "Dancing in the Moonlight"

Solid live album, hits and jams, the music video for boys are back is the same recording I've seen that 100 times, maybe more

Gutes Live-Rockalbum. Die Musik nimmt einen richtig mit. 4/5

Wheeee! This was a stupid amount of fun. It's rare to get a live album that really makes you feel like you're there, and even rarer to find one where that's a positive thing. But this definitely does it in spades. The band's quality is very high, and it's noticeable that there's very little quality drop off between the hit singles (both tremendous) and the rest of the songs. It's a little bit too one-note to get into the fives, but I really enjoyed it.

Remember when released

I really enjoyed this album--lots of fun even if most of their songs sound similar. Boys Are Back in Town is a classic and these rockers did what a great band does: entertain us!

I haven't really heard any Thin Lizzy before apart from the obvious Boys Are Back... and after listening to this, I'm wondering just WHY I haven't listened to any more. This was great! There's just some classic good-feel rock going on here, with shades of Prince, AC/DC, and even Iron Maiden in parts (Massacre was awesome, I'm a convert), and unlike a lot of the live albums on this list the feel of it actually elevated the songs - a definite recommend from me :)

Only listened to this one lightly so not a huge review this time. Clearly an excellent live performance by skilled musicians. To be honest though it's not as distinguishable from the other hair metal of the era as I would have wanted to see on this list.

Cowboy Song straight into The Boys are Back in Town — hot damn.

Big fan of Thin Lizzy already and I've listened to this album a few times before. Their talent is on full display here, and I feel that if they didn't have such shit luck every time they tried to tour the States, they might've been even more successful. Alas... RIP Phil

Surprisingly good. Edited? Probably. Still some good songs that I did know this band had under their belt. Also, those dual lead guitars are just killer.

Yeah, pretty good live album. Sounds great.

Great guitar riffs throughout. Liked the whole thing.

Reminds me of David Bowie in his Aladdin Sane era

Never been a Thin Lizzy guy. Opening track did nothing for me. “Rosalie” is a different story. I want to hear more of that voice. And less of the “boys are back in town” voice. I’m enjoying the songs I have not heard on the radio. From the first beat of “Jimmy the fox” I liked this one. This album is way better than I expected it to be with the first song.

Never listened to this album before. But should have. Great, powerful rock. Well, just as this band is known for!

4.4 - Okay okay, I know Ive said a lot of stuff about live albums and especially live rock albums, but this won me over. They are so so good. Wish we had a studio album before this, but thin lizzy really are greats. Great drums, great solos, great vocals. It's not a 5 because of it being live and too long

Solid live concert.

Exactly what you'd expect a Thin Lizzy album to sound like. Plus Huey Lewis on harmonica!

That was pretty good for a live album. I like it, even though I haven’t really ever listened to this band before. only knew one song for this.

wow that was so enjoyable! a group that I never got into but always heard in the background and now can say appreciate.

You know, honestly, this is great. I agree that there are wayyy too many UK rock bands on the list, and this is better than many of them. Lynott's voice is great, the guitars amazing. And who doesn't like The Boys are Back in Town? It's epic (and whle I knew the song, I didn't know it was Thin Lizzy, because I didn't know the band until now). I really appreciate that the crowd noise didn't detract from the music - it stayed in the background and didn't interfere with what I wanted to hear. That's not usually the case. That's generally why I don't like live albums.

Great album thanks would have never listened to it but it was very good will explore more of their albums

I’d never listened to Thin Lizzy before, and at first I was like “alright, I get it. Hair metal.” But then I started really getting into it, and realized they’re not just hair metal. They’re definitely a bit Whitesnake/Kiss, etc., but they also have a Billy Joel-ish sound. More often than not they remind me of the stuff my dad listened to when I was growing up. They’re also great at their instruments and play with emotion. “Still in Love With You” is beautiful, as is “Southbound.” Of course they’ve also got the fun bangers. Just a great band and I wouldn’t be surprised if I keep listening.

An insanely good live album. I made a realization, I think I really like thin Lizzy? Like really like them. Gonna have to check more of their stuff out. The transition from cowboy song to the boys are back in town put a massive grin on my face, but this album does run quite a bit long. That being said Thin lizzy deserves more love. RIP Phil lynnot

Excellent album!

I know I just said that I don't like classic rock, but this actually rocks! 4.5 rounded down to 4, if I was in a better mood or this was 20 min shorter, maybe 5

I don't know much Thin Lizzy but I really enjoyed this album and this is definitely one of the better live albums I've listened to.

I was having a little laugh to myself at the thick Dublin accent coming through all the time. I keep forgetting they’re Irish. This was my first venture into Thin Lizzy. I obviously knew the big hit, “Boys Are Back In Town” but that was about the full scope of my Thin Lizzy knowledge. This was a good introduction to the band. I got to hear all the favourites, which were obviously selected by the band themselves as it was a live album. However, it was a live album and I was aware I was listening to a version of a song that was not the recorded version. Therefore, can I give a good review on certain songs if that was not the original version? I don’t know. Still, I had a great time listening to it. And I will definitely be investigating further into Thin Lizzy’s discography.

The Boys are Back in Town has always been a hit that I've always been a solid "meh" with. But I like their other songs better. If you like hard driving big loud 70's guitar rock then this is a good one. I think the live aspect adds a great energy to the music. (regardless of how much re-recording they did over top of it).

Live Irish rock the week I leave for Ireland, let's go! Perhaps I'm a little biased based on the timing, but I thought this was pretty awesome. I knew very little about Thin Lizzy before this, including that they're Irish. I know this is all spliced together and not one specific show, but I especially love how they transition from Cowboy Song into The Boys are Back in Town. Sounds like they liked it too, and started ACTUALLY doing that at their shows after this. Some other faves were Jailbreak, Southbound and Dancing in the Moonlight. Warrior had total Jimi Hendrix vibes. So much energy in this whole thing. I'm sad Whiskey in the Jar isn't on here, but this was a rockin' good time regardless. It's interesting how much controversy there is about how much or little this is overdubbed. I guess I really don't care that much if the finished product is a quality piece of art.

Pretty solid, band is tight AF

4 out of 5. A live album on the weaker side but a good collection of songs.

I enjoy me some Lizzy. CLassic tunes and discovered some new ones.

Jailbreak. Southbound. Boys are Back in Town. Solid live album and learned some new Thin Lizzy songs I’d never heard before. Fun listen.

Gutes Rockalbum

Pretty damn good live rock album here. Thin Lizzy is super fun and I've learned to appreciate them more and more only in recent years. 4/5

Thin Lizzy - Live And Dangerous Suprinsingly good live album! I never heard of this artist at all, but seeing the time length, I thought this was going to be boring, but I was completely wrong. Although sure the album is quite long, it compensates for how consistent and great the songs are. This album offers some of the best riffs that rock has to offer, and "Still In Love With You" has got to be one of the best songs ever made in the 70's. Overall, this is great! 1.- Jailbreak = 7/10 2.- Emerald = 10/10 3.- Southbound = 9/10 4.- Rosalie (Cowgirl's Song) = 7/10 5.- Dancing In The Moonlight (It's Caught Me In It's Spotlight) = 8/10 6.- Massacre = 9/10 7.- Still In Love With You = 10/10 8.- Johnny The Fox Meets Jimmy The Weed = 7/10 9.- Cowboy Song = 8/10 10.- The Boys Are Back In Town = 9/10 11.- Don't Believe A Word = 7/10 12.- Warriors = 9/10 13.- Are You Ready? = 7/10 14.- Suicide = 7/10 15.- Sha-La-La = 10/10 16.- Baby Drives Me Crazy = 9/10 17.- The Rocker = 8/10 FINAL SCORE: 8.3/10

The boys are back in town, this time IRL

Tight live performance. You can tell they really cared about putting on a great show, not to mention this is timeless music that was made to be heard in concert.

Rating: 8/10 So much melody and so many guitar harmonies, consistently great from start to finish.

I really enjoyed listening to this album, the sound of it was very nice. I listened this while making history homework and it was great haha, I might wanna listen to Thin Lizzy more soon!

Quite a good live album. Favourite songs: Emerald, southbound, massacre, don’t believe a word, are you ready. 4 stars

Feeling already so hyped from the first song, Jailbreak. I love the guitar solo from the middle to the end of Emerald. Sounds sooo good. I added Southbound to my liked songs on Spotify. I'm loving the flow of Are You Ready and definitely added it to my liked songs. Sha-la-la is a favorite with the drums and the guitar playing throughout the song and the fans clapping along with it. The album closes with a banger of The Rocker. Fire album all the way through.

Nice Rock sound (especially the unknown Songs)

I can't take this much of Thin Lizzy in a single album Its good but too much of similar style, some variety would be good

I liked it

爽就完事了

This is just a SOLID rock album, I will return to listen for sure!

Generally I don’t love live albums but this was a really good one.

Felt more live than dangerous, but I got mad love for lizzy.

Great live performance. Didn’t know they were Irish. The link that sent me to Spotify cut out 40 mins of the album. Didn’t listen to it all today. Maybe in the future. Standouts: TBD.

Great album

I love a live album Didn’t know the boys were back in time were by them so that was a fun surprise After a little, a lot of the songs sounded the same but honestly I don’t hate for that bc I liked the sound

If you only listened to the 4-5 remastered songs, you messed up. The original album is pretty damn good. I've never run into anyone in my life who gives a shit about Thin Lizzy, and I guess we're all wrong? The front man is kind of corny at times, but probably wasn't corny at the time. He's got a good voice though, so whatever. Music wise this is great, guitar, bass & drums all find time to shine together and in their own thru solos & intros. They're all over the place- there's some funkyness with a sax, bluesy feels with a harmonica, metal vibes with driving bass & drums, and a ballad that they abandon like 3/4 thru to rock instead. 4.5ish, The Boys are Back in Town sucks & some of the mixing is a little odd & inconsistent. Apparently some or a bunch of stuff was overdubbed, depending on who you believe- there's a few parts that are real obvious. I'm beginning to think I'm going to like all 1001 albums, or maybe Thin Lizzy rocks

Some good stuff. Great guitars. Long for a live show. Could’ve cut Jimmy the Weed.

Great live album

This album surprised me a little. I always thought Thin Lizzy was heavy metal, but this was a lot more dynamic than that. It was a little bit blues, jam, prog, folk, and a lot more. I personally like an album to be a little shorter to have better impact. So I'm not sure I'll listen to this again. But I enjoyed it.

Great album. Favourite track Rosalie

Það sem ég myndi ekki gefa fyrir að geta farið á svona tónleika. Þetta er reyndar sambland af mörgum tónleikum en fara bara á einhvern þeirra en samt bara alla. Eðalstemmari

gotta say it exceeded my expectations.

What a charming man Surprise plus point

Thin Lizzy rocks

SHA-LA-LA JAILBREAK HUEY LEWIS Good stuff. Heavier than I remember. Well produced - the energy builds across the entire album and crescendos at the right time. Not too long, works well as a "unit of art."

Rejected

So I have never been a Thin Lizzy fan before, but damn was this good. From beginning to end it was so well done. The solos go crazy, the riffs are awesome, and the vocals sound so clear. This may be one of my new favorite live albums. Also 1 hr and 17 mins doesn't feel too long at all. Special shout out to the transition between "Cowboy Song" and "The Boys Are Back in Town"....WOW that was clean. This is more like a 4.5 for me. Liked Songs: "Jailbreak" , "Emerald" , "Southbound" , "Rosalie / Cowgirl's Song" , "Massacre" , "Still in Love with You" , "Cowboy Song" , "The Boys Are Back in Town" , "Don't Believe a Word" , "Are You Ready" , "Baby Drives Me Crazy" , "The Rocker"

Not a big fan of live albums, but Thin Lizzy is a whole lot of classic rock fun.

Not bad.

Wasn’t impressed with the album, but that might have been the commercial interruptions. The last 20 minutes were untethered and I was able to fully appreciate their concert sound. Annoyed that Apple Music does not have this album.

Really good live album. I'd always thought the radio releases were decent enough, but the rest of the album was excellent. Appears to be some controversy about just how live the album really is, but assuming it's at least somewhat live, the songs are even more impressive. 4.5* is what I'd rate it if it were allowed, but can't bring myself to round up to 5.

For me live albums are tough to judge. The quality of this recording was great. This album rocked!

It's obvious in parts this has been overdubbed with studio recordings, debatable this is a "live" album. Still some great versions of thin Lizzy's hits here, some surpassing the album version. 4*

I liked it

Really enjoyed this..

Awesome live album

Great live album

Fun live rock album; the first part of the album rips, but it starts to feel a little stale by the second hour

I am not a big fan of live recordings. They tend to be overly long and the performances they capture, intended as they are for the enjoyment of those in the room, are rarely as good to listen back to as those perfected in a studio. You have to already be a big fan of the band to even have a chance of liking them. Luckily, I already like Thin Lizzy and their cheesy bombastic sound is captured excellently on this album. For the reasons above, I can’t give a live album a 5, so this gets 4/4.

You know what, good vibes! Phil Lynott has a great voice, and I don’t just mean singing. Just a lovely accent. Simpsons: Yes

Love Thin Lizzy. This album had loads of great songs. Don't mind it being live, made me feel like I was there watching them.

It's got some banging songs on here. all the classics. had a fun time listening to it however, I'm not a fan of a live album, so if I was going to listen to these songs again I would try and find studio releases of them.

Are You Ready? Because The Boys Are Back In Town and are heading Southbound listening to this album.

Rocky. Like a very long Boys are back in town with classic 1970 guitar riffs.

Rock and Roll lives!

I only knew this band from the song "The Boys Are Back In Town" before listening to this. Very solid live rock album, similar vibes to "Live at Budokan" by Cheap Trick. Phil Lynott seems to be a very charismatic frontman and the band is pretty tight. Favorite songs: Jailbreak, Emerald, Southbound, Massacre, Still In Love With You, Cowboy Song, The Boys Are Back In Town Would I listen to it again? Not really, but it has given me interest in Thin Lizzy's discography. 8/10

this is a good album and all but i dont rlly get what makes this a standout live album specifically ….. maybe im just not familiar enough with the studio versions of these songs highlights: jailbreak, still in love with you, suicide, rocker (nov 19 2024)

Superb live album, one of the best, that catches Lizzy in their natural habitat, on stage! Probably their best line up and music from their best era of albums, say no more.

Always been a favorite of mine
