Reviews (page 2 of 13)

Filled with gems! The Joni Mitchell penned high point, Woodstock, partners with the achingly sweet Our House. Teach Your Children, Carry On, Helpless, Almost Cut My Hair.....all simply wonderful.

This is a great contrast to the Allman Brothers album. I’m not into “folk-rock” any more than I’m into blues rock, but holy shit if this isn’t just an assembly of all time great songwriters.

Classic songs, lovely harmonies, peaceful and folky. A great album.

It's honestly quite surprising that four huge egos came together to put together a great album.

I went in knowing the album well and assuming a 5 but listening with critical ears, it's a little over the top on the hippy front lyrically. Ton of classics though, the vocal performance is ridiculous, and there's some really good instrumental jams there too. 4.5 rounded up.

I was much more familiar with solo Neil than CSNY, but this is just the peak of this genre of music. Beautiful harmonies, great songs, great guitar work (acoustic and electric) and at least 3 of their most well known songs. Gotta be a 5 star.

I just had the best time listening to this

I purchased this album when I was 15 with my bday money. I wore it out and purchased it again. Then bought it again in CD format. I was fascinated and enthralled with both the musicality and harmonizing vocals. It made me a Neil Young fan. I became fascinated with the pedal steel guitar. Our House was my American Dream which I was gratefully rewarded with.

Beautiful vocal harmonies in a collection of great folk songs, with just enough teeth to not be cloying. What is not to love? Neil Young's contributions do kinda overshadow the others, but this is still an excellent folk rock record

almost cut my hair is the most amazing song i’ve heard in my life I LOVE this album

Took years to 'get' Neil Young, but I now love his stuff.

My parents were hippie-light, so CSN&Y were in constant rotation in our household. This album is perfect. Excellent vocal blends. Tight 2-4 minute songs. Excellent guitar work and writing. It perfectly encapsulates the Summer of Love with the threat of Vietnam on the outskirts. It's a really solid record from first track to last. The only weak track happens to be its longest -- Neil Young's attempt at an opus call Country Girl drags a little too long while the rest of the record is so tight.

Fuck yeah. I find this to be far superior to their first album… waaay less meandering filler. No real low points and the highs (helpless and our house specifically) are just absolute 10/10s

The only songs worth a salt that Neil Young recorded are on this album, and if you ever questioned Joni Mitchell's songwriting chops Woodstock will correct your bad opinion. Man alive what an album. Straight gas until the last couple songs and even those are excellent.

The harmonies on this are exquisite.

Love this album so much. Honestly essential stuff, with a great variety of styles

Absolutely flawless. Incredibly important album. Everyone know Our House. Carry On is a crazy opener. Teach Your Children, Almost Cut My Hair, and Helpless keep it going. Woodstock is one of my favorite all-time songs. Country Girl has me falling in love with a girl I've never know. And Everybody I Love You is a great way to close it out.

Excellent harmonies. Every track is great to my ears. Love the Laurel Canyon sound.

Exeptional!

When I was in college about 15 years ago, my roommate got a record player. He and I were both fans of classic rock so we went to the second hand record store and browsed through what they had. We bought every Beatles, Led Zeppelin, and Pink Floyd album we could along with some Journey and Eagles albums. Along with those we bought Deja Vu by Crosby, Stills, Nash, and Young, and man was that a great choice. I wore this record out listening to it over and over while studying. It was the perfect mix of smooth and relaxing along with just enough energy to keep me going. I can still hear the hiss of the worn out needle as "Carry On" fades in, even if that detail is only in my mind. What I'm saying here is that my 5 star rating may be dripping in nostalgia, but I absolutely love this album.

This album is practically a greatest hits. I always forget what an incredible guitarist Stephen Stills is on acoustic, especially. For many years, I thought Crosby was the high harmony, but it's actually Nash. Crosby was the harmony expert doing all the difficult middle parts. Love this record. Was the perfect salve right at the moment I listened.

Listening right now, on the first song of the album, I like this style of music and the vocals are very nice and harmonic and reminds me of the Beatles with a bit more of a kick. So far I will be adding some of these songs to my playlist if the album maintains this sound. The second song I assume is starting now and I really enjoy the intro to it. The guitar is good and the synth or whatever instrument it is sounds cool and makes the song sound cool. I enjoy the talkbox or similar pedal on the guitar solo. Third song is playing and I'm still liking the vocals and how they all harmonize and sound really soft and cool. I think this is enough note but I love this. 5 stars

Incredible album overall - so many great songs. Carry On possibly their best song and no bad songs on the album. Was interesting to listen to which songs they pieced together and which they all performed together. Fantastic album 5

Fantástico

Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young’s Déjà Vu is a standout country-rock masterpiece that thrives on the individual strength of its tracks despite a lack of thematic consistency. While "Carry On" is a classic, the mix is incredibly jarring on headphones due to the dated "hard-panning," which shoves the guitar aggressively into one ear and creates a lopsided, exhausting listening experience. Beyond that technical hurdle, the album balances grit and grace, moving from the dark, visceral loneliness of "4+20" to the oddly soothing imagery of "Helpless" and the domestic gratitude of "Our House." While "Almost Cut My Hair" strikes a more eccentric note, the record finds its peak in the title track’s Pink Floyd-esque tempo shifts and the timeless resonance of "Woodstock." Ending on the high note of "Everybody I Love You," the album earns a 5/5 for its ability to transform disparate moods—from country-tinged social commentary to grand, theatric climaxes—into one of the genre's most essential listening experiences.

Love this album! CSNY's best. Highlights: "Helpless" and "Our House"

No pass out sign on the Door set me thinking Are waitresses paying the Price of their winking While stars sit at bars and Decide what they're drinking They drop by to die 'cause It's faster than sinking Too late to keep the change Too late to pay No time to stay the same Too late to keep the change Too late to pay No time to stay the same Too young to leave Find out that now was the Answer to answers That you gave later She did the things that we Both did before now But who forgave her? If I could stand to see her crying I would tell her not to care When she learns of all your lyin' Will she join you there? COUNTRY GIIIIRRRLLLL I THINK YOU'RE PRETTY, GOT TO MAKE YOU UNDERSTAAAANNNNDDDD, HAVE NO LOVERS IN THE CITYYYYYY, LET ME BEEEEEEE YOUR COUNTRY MAAAANNNNN

Wait this may be one of my favorites. Also of course major props for there being a dog in the album cover which brought me into a deep dive of the creation of the album cover which was so cool to read about. I love humans and I love music. The electric guitar on Deja Vu may have changed my life. I actually had a spiritual experience after this album deep diving into these guys and genre. Unbelievable that i’m having my 70’s rock awakening this late tbh.

A classic album. Sounds from my childhood, and stuff that my father would blast out loud. I didn't realize how iconic this was. Now, I get it. I would listen to it again.

A best album ever....

Two cats in the yard

Ouvido em 28/04/2026.

Didn’t expect to like this so much but it was pretty damn sick. I’m proper loving the albums around 1970 and the summer of love. Everything about this album is great but the Crosby tracks are something else. 8.5 / 10 Best track/s: Almost Cut My Hair, Our House, Deja Vu

really enjoy this album

I get chills when I hear "Helpless." If only every squeakquel had a Neil Young.

An album I've listened to all of my life. The first time I remember hearing Helpless I was probably 3 or 4 so I thought Neil sang of Big Bird from Sesame Street "Flying across the sky". I still picture that image to this day. A super album from a supergroup. What new can be said? Teach your children well, let your freak flag fly and witness the quickness with which we get along....

5 stars

Expectation: -> Definitely know the band name but cannot spontaneously name a song. After listening: -> Wow. Early prediction for summer '26…Smores over the firepit with a cocktail listening to Deja Vu. Track ranking: Hair Children House Carry Helpless Woodstock Love Deja Country 4

Starting like a charging bull out the gates, Carry On careens through the first 2 minutes, guitar strings strumming like the blades of a helicopter. Then the arrangement breaks - the CSN&Y call out in unison, a call to arms, 'Carry on, love is coming, love is coming to us all.' It's magnificent. Part psychedelic rock, part folk rock, all talent. Next up, Teach Your Children is a more traditional folk tune CSN style joint, fingerpicked and vocal harmony lead. Followed by Almost Cut My Hair, an audaciously visceral howl of guitar and vocal emotion that would be a climactic screeching needle drop in any movie set in the 60's or 70's, in fact I imagine it has been. Helpless is a Neil Young lead number, and by gum, it really makes a difference having him backed up by the harmonies of the other boys. It's also a more cohesively structured song than you might be used to from Young and it really makes a difference to it's accessibility. He really shines here. Deju Vu another psychedelic weird beauty of a song, lyrics about wondering whats underground and whatnot. Super cool, only to be followed by what I consider one of the most devastatingly beautiful songs ever written about domestic love. How "Our House" finds the beauty in the everyday, the flowers, the cats , the fireplace. It's poetry, it's unbelievably good. And it manages to milk tears from me every time they sing "life used to be so hard, now everything is easy cause of you". Anyone who has struggled through life, to find relief in the struggle because they found a partner to do it all with, will understand this song in their soul. This is a desert island disc for certain. And it's made even more magical knowing that it was written by Graham Nash about his and Joni Mitchells relationship in their little home in Laurel Canyon. Their early demo of this together is also heartbreakingly beautiful. I won't go into further detail about the songs on the record, because they're all quite brilliant and I could explain why at length, but you're better off just putting it on and letting it have you. Enjoy!

Incredibly beautiful, one of the pinnacles of folk rock.

A masterpiece of a true supergroup.

This is probably the ultimate folk-rock album. Crosby, Stills, Nash (& Young)’s debut was already a massive success, but “Déjà Vu” surpasses it once again, at least in terms of sales and impact. With the addition of Neil Young and his rock-oriented guitar, the album became significantly more folkROCK than its predecessor, though the quartet managed to strike a balance between ballads, folk songs, protest songs and rock songs. The characteristic harmonies of the core trio (supplemented here and there by Neil Young’s falsetto) dominate the sound. A true classic of the genre and of rock history in general.

A great album for the times very polished and lots of memorable songs. A very talented bunch.

Extremely biased. One of my favorite albums of all time. The harmonies can bring tears to my eyes. Absolute masterclass in songwriting. 6/5.

Honestly when this popped up I wasn’t really in the mood for it but it grabbed me within less than a minute of the first track. A perfect, easy listen for a quiet Sunday in work. Top Track - Our House

Todo mi rollo

Absolutely fantastic, melodic, rhythmic, with so much soul and passion

Album #70: Déjà Vu - Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young Genre (W): Folk rock Singles: Woodstock, Teach Your Children, Our House, Carry On I have listened to this album once before. Thoughts?: The harmonies on this album are heavenly, they remind me a lot of Eagles or The Beach Boys harmonies. I also love the songwriting of the four members, and their cover of “Woodstock” was amazing. Favorite songs: All of it!!

I have listened to this album hundreds of times. One of my all time favorite albums.

Okkk county cunty luviee GOTTA BE MY NEWEST FAVVV

An iconic band, the harmonies in their slower ballads and harder rocking songs never get old

like duh

Honestly blown away. Amazing instrumentation and moods to this album. Definitely going to revisit!

Amazing stuff. Hit factory

After completely kicking a$$ on their first album, Crosby, Stills, and Nash had to figure out how to top themselves. They decided to use a cheat code named Neil Young. Mission accomplished! This is easily the best overall CSN effort.

An exceptional folk rock album. Enjoyed pulling out my leather bound vinyl copy to listen.

Classic album with some great songs. Helpless is a perfect Neil Young song.

I just really like this album.

A harmony‑driven, emotionally charged masterpiece

Great actually. Especially 'Almost Cut My Hair' is fire. Stand-outs - Carry On - Almost Cut My Hair - Woodstock - Deja Vu

excelente album 10/10. no los conocía pero son geniales. rock folk del bueno. ni una cancion que no me guste.

Classic for a Reason! Woodstock generation’s romantic and lyrical & harmony masterpieces!

Great harmonies. I really enjoyed this album. Helpless would be my faite track.

Enjoyed. It’s mellow, thoughtful, and timeless.

So good

Great album. Favorite tracks: 'Almost Cut My Hair' and 'Our House'.

Timeless!

Supergroups always fun

American harmonies at their peak. Yes, I know Graham Nash is British but he was influenced primarily by American music. This album is five star all the way through.

I love how many distinctive sounds there are on this album, and how well they all mesh. Teach Your Children, Our House, and Helpless are some of my absolute favorites.

This is an amazing album. So good but maybe because it fits so well currently(03/2026).

Best 50 albums ever.

Damn, what a good record. Compositions are fantastic, vocals and harmonies are good as they get and elevate the songs. Magical coalescence of talent and vision. There's a great jazzy-instrumental take on this record done by a guy (I met once in Chicago) named Fareed Haque. I recommend giving it a spin.

Man I loved everything about this album...and I still do! I remember the physical LP was textured and kind of heavy, like a nice book with gilded pages. A classic.

The 5 stars really don't need an explanation.

Olddid but goodie

Didn't realize how many recognizable songs are on this album. Like 5 of the first 7 tracks are really great songs that I have heard before, but never realized they were Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young. 'Teach Your Children' and 'Our House' are super catchy and nostalgic.

Big folk guy

Two tracks are a little too country for my taste (though still good) and keep this from being a perfect 5/5. These guys are perfect together and Ypung brings his own different, but same energy and the product is completely victorious. Superbly sung, superbly played and written with so much passion. 4.5/5

Álbum de los '70. Mezcla estilos country, rock y balada. Con el clásico "Helpless" en su repertorio. En mi escala, un 9 🫶🏼

If there is a quintessential CSNY album, this is it. Steeped with hits and harmonies. So much packed in this one, it’s impossible for me to deny full stars. I’ve always loved this album.

This is one of those albums that earns its place on the list because it captures a phenomenon - a supergroup quartet of singing guitarists belting out 70s folk harmonies in a way that is just so pure and satisfying. This is peak folk/blues/country rock, and these are six musicians at the top of their game. (don't think I didn't notice Dallas Taylor's and Greg Reeves' contributions on the drums and bass, they're perfect.) I'm learning that I'm not typically the biggest fan of 70s folk rock, and I sure did give Neil Young's "Ragged Glory" a 2, but this one is a strong 5 for me.

Arguably, the best album of the band. We got pet sounds, some of the kinks and yardbirds in the same album. Precious!

If you had told me a year ago that I'd grow to become quite fond of Neil Youngs voice I would have called you crazy but due to "After the Goldrush" and now "Deja Vu" I think my opinion is turned. David, Stephen, and Graham are no slouchs either for the record, in fact my favorite track is far and away "Almost Cut My Hair" the emotional punch Crosby gives those lyrics is top-notch

My god i’ve been putting off this album for ages, this is PEAK. As a fan of CSN i thought i’d like it. Man fuck unknown pleasures for breaking the 5 star streak, cause it wouldve been 3 in a row.

An absolute classic, no denying this one.

Einfach gut

Deserves a place in the top 1,000.

I love this album so much it is already in my collection. The harmonies and songwriting is A++ if only they could have gotten along a little better.

Welllllllll what can you say, some iconic songs on this album which from start to finish is just very nice and great. There’s really not much else to say, it’s just really fucking good like. 5.0/5.0 Best Song: almost cut my hair

Kind of forgot how many massive bangers there are on this album. I think finally as a world, we are realising that Neil Young is the greatest to ever do it. All music is Neil Young, he's the best, the other 3 are alright as well. I think CSNY have even better harmonies than the Eagles. Our House is such a beautiful tune, but the best song is, OBVIOUSLY, almost cut my hair.

How can I say an album is perfect without saying so? Well, I guess I won't try this time. I am impressed by how good it is, it actually is an album made by musicians with such great taste. They, combined, have made a masterpiece of an album. I am amazed by it. This is the kind of music that transmits a lot to me. And all the songs are great!

A perfect album.

YESSSSSSSS

Gotta give some respect to this outing by these legends.

One of my mums favourite artists

I listened to my well worn vinyl copy this morning, and have heard this one many times…Teach Your Children is my favorite track by both these four and the trio. Overall, it’s a very solid album. Before I listened to it today, I was thinking it would come in at four stars, but I think it deserves a five. Not a single dog on the whole record, in my opinion. Love their harmonies.

One of the best ever. So much talent they could not be in the same room with each other. Top tier music.

So good there’s nothing else like it.

the harlem globetrotters of music

Iconic music and legendary musicians, what do you expect

Nearly wall to wall bangers. I don't love Country Girl but everything else on this is amazing.

CSNY can go right in my veins. Awesome record.

Such a classic band! Always loved their vibe and this album is no different.

loved every song

It's actually kind of amazing an album like this was ever made. Four alpha dogs each simultaneously ascending to the top of their powers come together to form a band - well, maybe not a band exactly, but at partnership where each had to at least marginally make some compromises. Few bands had this much simultaneous songwriting talent - and that includes the Beatles. The fact that this record works as well as it does and delivers on the potential is what is so surprising. You can certainly hear the differences is songwriting vision between the different songwriters. Neil Young channels his countrified Harvest-era styles, Nash is warm pop, Stills wants to rock, and Crosby is in full-throated hippie melancholia. But it all works together. A magical, damn near perfect album.

Amazing. Has to be one of the best studio albums by a group ever

One of the best folk rock albums of all time.

This is a great record, I know more of it than I expected already which adds to the sense of Déjà vu, the title track is amazing and I wanted it to be 3 times as long (possibly like life depending on the day) and the songwriting chops of all 3 come through to combine into something pretty iconic throughout the whole album, some kind of 5

Very good.

Every song a classic

All Time Excellent Music by Legendary Musicians

This list is schizo

Almost cut my hair was my favorite

Very fun very relaxing

The guitar is something else, and the rhythms and vibes are much much better than I remember. It's just got so much going on with just a couple of instruments. Amazing.

Absolutely awesome CSNY at their prime. Great songs, playing, vocal harmonies. Lots of songs everyone knows, some deeper tracks that are also very cool. It's certainly a product of its times, but it definitely holds up despite that. Also kind of cool stereo effects, try headphones.

Day 159 Had a few in the last week or so that have had me thinking ‘why the fuck have I never taken the time to listen to this before?’, this is another one. Highlights Carry on Almost cut my hair Deja vu

This album was great!

Love love love

I’ve been waiting for this one. Insane collection of songs here. I really love some of the guitar tones they got on this considering the time it was made. Some very special songwriting that was way ahead of its time. I love it

I should have been listening to these guys sooner. Mostly knowing of Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young as a collaboration between many famous solo artists, and only having listened to Our House, this blew me away. It is exactly the type of folk with blends of various other genres throughout, precisely up my alley. The harmonies are so rich and I honestly wish there were more.

One of my top 5 all time favorite albums. Every track has a lot of history with me. I know the critics often rate the first CSN album higher than this one and for good reason. That's yet another reason as to why I'm not a music critic. If this one doesn't deserve 5 stars then I can't think of which one would.

Brilliant album- just peak songwriting, singing, and production from some of the greatest to ever do it.

I bought a ticket to see Neil Young in Heaton Park in Manchester in the summer. I know he's renowned for playing whatever he fancies every night, but if he strummed his way through this album, I'd be more than satisfied. Carry On is great, lovely harmonies, and I like the strumming, twiddly guitar. Teach Your Children, a bit of a western-themed parable, goes down pretty well. Fairly twee, but hey-ho. Almost Cut My Hair comes right back to modern rock. Super layered sound, Crosby kills it on vocals. I watched a great documentary on Graham Nash and Our House. He wrote it about Joni Mitchell, and he was pretty wistful. Lovely song - I do enjoy those that tell a distinct story. 4+20 is lovely bluegrass pondering stuff, Stephen Stills uses the opportunity to slow down, and spin a bit of a mystical yarn. Country Girl is a classic too, Neil Young at his most high-pitched and whiny. Lovely. One of the best albums, with some of the best musicians and songwriters, ever made.

It sounds like something out of a nostalgic movie and I love it

This album is a straight up masterpiece. Every member is firing on all cylinders...you can really hear how strong the songwriting is across the board, and the vocal harmonies are incredible. Teach Your Children is a perfect example. It sounds like something Gram Parsons could have written just as easily as Graham Nash, and Jerry Garcia’s pedal steel on it is phenomenal. That song hits even harder since I've become a parent. Nash’s writing really shines throughout the album and gives it a lot of its heart. David Crosby’s songs are great too and honestly feel like a continuation of Buffalo Springfield. Considering Neil Young dropped After the Gold Rush less than a year later, you can tell he might have been holding a little back. Still, Country Girl is strong, and that organ part is pretty badass

iconic, liebe die era

It’s easy to hear why people love this album so much. It feels good to listen to it. The harmonies and instrumentation are so locked in I was genuinely surprised to read how disconnected the recording was, and that the four of them were almost never in the same room together once.

Such a moment!

Альбом как зеркало проблем переходящих из десятилетия в десятилетие, сквозь века и эпохи. Альбом написанный в 1970 году настолько же, если не острее, актуален в 2026. Deja vu, которое будет преследовать людей, пока человечество существует.

One of the greatest albums ever made no filler at all. Almost cut my hair is one of the best songs ever and one of my favourite solos.

Beautiful harmonies, meaningful lyrics, some well known tunes.

Album 3/1001. Listened 1/8/2026. Just beautiful melodies and harmonies and guitar licks. Can't listen to Teach Your Children without tearing up.

YUUUUUUUPPPPP

This is a great album and so nostalgic.

That's a hell of the album

Her har vi Young igjen, men denne gangen sammen med Crosby, Stills og Nash. Er dette folk rockens The Beatles? Her er nesten samtlige låter hentet fra øverste hylle. Fantastisk! Top 3: Almost Cut My Hair, Carry On, Our House

Such beautiful harmonies. Big Americana fan and this is right in that wheel house 👍👍

loved. it. i just love that layered harmonizing vocals so much. favorites were almost cut my hair, helpless, our house, and country girl.

I have come to especially appreciate albums that have a number of songs I am very familiar with (in this case, "Our House," "Woodstock," "Carry On," and "Teach Your Children")--songs that can be considered classics, but then it turns out the rest of the album is better. Maybe it's because those songs are fresher to me, but regardless in these cases really showcase the genius of the creators.

most goated album of all time. Crosby, Stills, Nash, and Young never miss. Our House best song.

Great songwriting, production and vocals.

Nearly flawless. Perhaps the only 4-or-3 song is Almost Cut my Hair; some David Crosby nonsense. But I love it. Imagine Grateful Dead circa American Beauty, but with better singing: you get here. Imagine The Yes Album, but more restrained and focused: you get here. This record explodes from the 60s into the 70s, full of ideas, but also *taste*.

Me encantó, jamás había escuchado hablar del artista y me volví fan.

interessante

I was very surprised when I immediately liked it. It's clear from the sound that it's something around the 60s. The Beatles, the Kinks - the feeling of brit-pop right away. But then you hear the accent, the Americans. I hear something akin to Bob Dylan in Helpless and Almost Cut My Hair.

big pink?

I love Crosby, Stills, Nash, & Young. They have such a unique sound. I love the harmonizing and themes they sing about are unique and wholesome. I still struggle with Neil Young's voice. It is so.. whiny!?! Regardless, I would jam this again.

This album is great all the way through, Neil Young elevates this one compared to CSN’s debut which I enjoyed a lot.

Chill and pleasant from beginning to end. Every track is a hit on this one. I like the addition of Young compared to the CSN album we got previously. Thinking this one rounds up to the 5.

Fuckkkkkkkkk these melodies and voices ... so good. Fire Joe Morgan/Newman track by track review: "Carry On:" Pulsating strong start that showcases these amazing singers. "Teach Your Children:" A simple yet solid singalong. "Almost Cut My Hair:" Good advice but just do it. "Helpless:" Plainative whines never sounded so good. "Woodstock:" More fun than actually being at Woodstock. "Déjà Vu:" A melancholy blend of voices and refrains. "Our House:" A growing up song with some of the best vocal performances ever. Everything is easy with this song. "4+20:" A math problem song that is just sort of there. "Country Girl:" Three songs in one! It's become one of my favorite songs. I love the rapturous harmonica at the end. "Everybody I Love You:" Not my sentiment but it's quick, light, harmonious outro.

A stunning collection of late 60s classics. Each member takes his turn which creates a delicate mix of soft rock, psychedelia, country, crunchy guitar driven, ballad, songs. It may be schmaltzy but Our House will always have a special place for me. An album that sounds amazing on vinyl as well.

Now we’re talking. Perfect album, great melodies and lyrics and those harmonies are like a warm hug. Syrupy songs like Our House, are counterpointed by the harder rock sound of songs like Almost Cut my Hair. No fillers here.

Exceptional! Love this super group. They really bring out something so special musically in this album. This one stays in rotation.

I’ve listened to two songs from this album already. It’s very cute country vibe.

A comfort album for me. A couple of times listened through every year. The trios music music I listen to much more irregularly, a few good tracks I like, like Marrakesh Express, but then I find myself abit bored with the mid tier material. Young then again, I like very much. The musical expressivness bot vocals and huitar, the daring and raw sound, and mixing that with beautiful acoustic ballads is something I enjoy with Youngs music. Having then Young accompanied by the trio makes the match perfect. The a capella like dynamics put together in beautiful tunes, and still including Youngs expressivness is what makes this album a true joy to listen through. Each and every track. Eventually making one of the best collabs throughout rock history. One can truly feel how everything is well thought through adding up to a mesmerising music experience.

I had heard various songs from this album, but never listened to the full thing. What a revelation! This album arrived in the midst of a lot of tumult: Graham Nash and Stephen Stills had broken up with their celebrity girlfriends (Joni Mitchell and Judy Collins, respectively) and David Crosby's girlfriend was killed in a car accident a few days before they started recording, leaving him often being unable to function. Further tumult arrived in the form of notorious curmudgeon Neil Young. Since Stills played almost everything with a string or keys on recordings, they needed another pair of hands for touring, and invited Young. Naturally, he complained about everything and only participated on half the tracks. This was CSN's version of The White Album, with each member mainly working on their own stuff and only getting together to have other members play the instrumental parts and add other vocals, but it all comes together surprisingly well. I listened to the 2021 remaster, and while I don't think it sounds pristine, the sound quality isn't an impediment to the music. There are a lot of great songs here: "Carry On", "Woodstock", "Country Girl" and the romping closer "Everybody I Love You," but my favorite song is David Crosby's visceral, cathartic "Almost Cut My Hair" (which Stephen Stills curiously wanted to leave out because he didn't like the vocal performance, which is nuts, because Crosby sounds amazing). Anyway, this is a terrific album with a lot of texture and some especially great performances, both vocally and musically. A classic.

cuh-lassic.

This album was actually so good! Every song besides maybe 4+20 but still probably a 5. Love there cover of Woodstock by Joni Mitchell and I almost cut my hair might be the best ngl.

i grew up with this album, so i am a bit biased. with CSNY, you get the terrific harmonies, you get the excellent songwriting (now with the inclusion of neil young, who is probably the best songwriter out of the four), and you get a slightly harder edge than CSN's debut. to me, this one is almost perfect. the heavier stuff is great, the softer stuff is a nice reprieve, and this has some of my favorite songs from all four members on here. and for a 55 year old album, it still sounds great. gosh i love this one.

This album is a classic, amazing.

100% me. Love this album

Such a classic band! Always loved their vibe and this album is no different.

I have always loved this album - every track holds up and Country Girl" remains my favorite Neal Young tune of all-time. A true desert island disc...

Great song writing, singing, and musicianship. Always worth a full listen through.

I love Crosby Stills Nash and Young. Their harmonies and mixture of folk, honky tonk, and psychedelic have always fascinated me, and this album is no exception. Heartfelt and hopeful, it takes you through the lives that they built and the hardships they endured with messages of hope and encouragement. Their harmonies are spectacular and enchanting. Truly a wonderful group and a splendid album.

Classic. Anything less than 5 stars says more about the listener than the record.

One of my all-time favorite albums.

Fantastic album that still reveals the optimistic side of the 60s and hope for a better future, before the cynicism of the 70s set in. Intelligent lyrics, harmony, and some nice electric flourishes throughout. The biggest problem on the album is the jarring movement from the opening song, Carry On, to the second track, which is full on country. In fact, the album does have a little bit of unevenness that way, but the highs are so high. It’s still rounds up to a five star rating.

The Deja Vu for me is hearing all of these songs that I have indeed heard before, but the context of the album vs radio play really punctuates. This is a really good album, and though the tracks that weren’t released as singles for radio play compliment them well. They differ in style and tone sometimes, but the whole works. It is also nice to have Neil Young’s soft and driving presence. Excellent album.

All time all time. All bangers in their own way. CSNY is fucking awesome.

Country Girl should have been the closer, but otherwise phenomenal album

Overall Rating 4.60/5 (9.20/10). All killers, no fillers.

Some of the most enduring anthems of it’s time, but wonderful hidden gems that make this a well rounded classic !

One of my first albums. Became a CSN(Y) fan.

Fav songs: almost cut my hair

Truly a fantastic album

I love this album - full of hits all the way through, pleasant to listen to, not too forceful, powerful lyrics

Simply one of the best rock albums of all time.Honestly, shorts, little big country, a little bit folk. But when you add that to the mix, it actually elevates it over almost all other country.Rock or folk rock albums

Love this, going on the list

So comforting.

Given that every book has already been written, I’m sure that someone has written about the history of the supergroup with appropriate rankings. I’m too young to know what level of “super” CSN and Y occupied, as my understanding of their musical tree always starts with them and not the root groups. I wonder if Buffalo Springfield is the 60s equivalent of Screaming Trees or Sunny Day Real Estate. Anyway, I grew up on classic rock, and this album sounds like a greatest hits more than just a stand-alone, which tells you all you really need to know.

Great album. Really like Almost Cut My Hair.

Young > Stills > Nash > Crosby

It’s good y’all

stoked we got double Neil!!! one of my favorite albums of the era and has so many bangers

Have we done this before? Definitely feels like we’ve seen THAT tree before… Jokes aside, this album is pretty great. Sounds like each member was going through it at the time of writing and recoding, but honestly I wouldn’t be able to tell based on music alone.

This is a family favorite. I was raised on this album. Road trips with my Dad, growing out my hair to let my “Freak Flag Fly”, and losing myself to the harmonies in my headphones. It was my father’s first record he bought with his own money as a kid, and one of the first records I bought when I finally got a turntable. This album is so good, I’m not even going to mention the apocalyptically bad 1998 album by KISS, “Psycho Circus” or how it turned former metal heads into hippies because OH MY GAWD the audacity!

I can’t believe that four of some of the greatest musicians just joined to together for the sanctity of good vibes and good music. This album was flawless to me, the harmonies made my morning.

Visst, alla låtar kanske inte faller i smaken, men så kommer Helpless.

Deja Vu is right. I swear I've already rated this album.

Increíble. Vibes perfectas. Estaba en mi mood folk rock y no lo sabía. Me senté en un banquito al sol y fue un momento maravilloso. They were onto something.

Man I loved this album so many good jams.

Just lovely music.

Masterpiece

Five stars for the harmonies alone. I adore this album. Carry On has always been a favorite CSNY song of mine. I enjoyed this even more than I remembered.

Timeless!

Jel ikad postojalo savršenije hipijevsko sranje od ovog

I love this album so much! I first heard "our house" on the simpsons episode "milhouse of sand and fog" where his parents almost get back together or something. Those close vocal harmonies? The guitar stuff? An anthem to long hair? Would bang

Starts off great, ends great. Instruments great, harmonies great (Deja Vu gave me goddamn chills). CSN(Y) - at their best when “helpless”? Almost Cut My Hair - the music started and I was like WOOOOOOOO WHAT A BOP! And then the lyrics began and I felt differently lol. I barely ever listen to lyrics, but this was so jarring!!! Yes counterculture, but I am certain it can be done less cringily lol. Lost points for this one, but also rounding so 🤷🏿‍♀️.

Great collection of songs. So much talent in one group. Shame they didn’t record more.

I have always enjoyed this album and this style of music. With legend after legend on this one - it’s almost too much awesomeness to bear.

A must have for every vinyl collection.

Wonderful little mix of folk and classic rock. The guitaristry on this album is subtle, but so freaking good. Each tune seems to carry its own place and I can only imagine what this one was like for a teenager spinning the plasitc when it came out in 1970. 9/10

Really like this album. Love some more of the western songs and bluesy stuff as well. Not a huge fan of Neil young’s voice though.

Four star album with a bonus star for not using the Oxford comma. 5/5

Vu Ja De all over again!

I really liked this one! I was think it was a wonderful collaboration project.

Great harmonies.

Even though it feels like I've been there before every time I listen to it, I will continue to do so as it's just that good!

classic. 10/10

Welp - it’s finally fall and the freaky folk rockers are doing their magic harmonies again

It always seemed weird to me that Neil Young would join Crosby, Stills and Nash after they already had a brilliant debut album and were one of the biggest groups at the time. Also, it kind of seemed like three of the four in the group wanted to be solo artists anyway. Young went on to become the biggest individual star of the group. But when the Lord blesses you with a win on a three-leg parlay, you don’t question why you deserve it. This album has songs that I imagine would be among that generation’s all-time bangers. You’ve got Carry On, Teach Your Children, Woodstock and Our House. You have heard all those songs. You might not know it was CSN&Y, but they’re recognizable. And another song, Almost Cut My Hair, gets played a bit on classic rock stations. It's my theme song right now as I've not had my haircut in maybe a year? It's unruly. All four played an integral part in the band and all wrote songs for the album and all got a chance to sing lead on a song. Stills is very underrated as a guitar hero. He plays incredible leads and solos throughout this album and Young… Well, when it comes to guitar, Neil’s gonna Neil. But, Young’s guitar polaying has one thing going for it that’s lacking in a lot guitarists, a signature sound. You know a Neil Young solo when you hear it. However, the voices, or the blending of their voices, is what brings everyone to the party. They sing like angels, and lyrically, the songs hit all the right spots. New love, lost love, sad love and letting your freak flag fly. There was a time in my youth when I would have thought this music was lame and anyone who listened to it was just an old square. I still have a regretful flashback about the time I told a dude who was kind enough to drive me and my idiot friends to see ZZ Top that CSN&Y sucked as he was playing it on his tape deck. What a little a-hole I was. Now, I’m the old square who loves this album. So, you should listen to this album before you go to bed tonight, much less before you die.

Our house is a very very very fine house

Perfect oldie folksy album. An easy listen that feels timeless

Another surprise for me. I never thought a CSN album would make it into my music collection. For example, I didn't like their debut album very much at all. This one is a different kettle of fish however, and I really liked their versions of Woodstock and Our House, which I had never heard before. In short, I loved all but a couple of tracks on the album, and I feel it deserves five stars and a place in my Tidal library.

One of my very most favourite albums ever, every single tune a classic. Brilliant collaboration between four of the time's best musos. Great compositions, beautiful harmonies, delightful guitar play.

Beautiful album, not my favorite CSNY but I loved it.

All great songs.

Masterpiece. Not a bad song

The Good: Apply-named album! The Bad: My reaction to seeing the album on the list… The Ugly: Me realizing I should not be so judgmental… Young… Neil Young… Don’t care if he likes his martini shaken, not stirred. Don’t care that he drives a lovely Austin Martin… Don’t even care that Mrs Moneypenny believes he’s the kit ’n kaboodle… I don’t like the man, and it depresses me when I see his name is on the list… I pressed play, Carry On was not offensive and sounded vaguely familiar, Teach Your Children is one of those songs which only those living under a rock have never heard before, and for once the harmonizing was found desirable… Almost Cut My Hair, well, that’s when the Deja Vu kicked in… The rest of the album became a blur, as I was brought from one Deja Vu into another… and then I played the album again… and again… I don’t like CSN (with, or without the) Y, but this album is pure gold. For me, there isn’t a song that makes me want to hit the skip button, it also has that lovely play time that is just under 35 minutes… That’s like watching 1 1/2 episodes of your favorite sitcoms—if one still remembers sitcoms… 5* given with a thumbs up and a smile

5/5. Seeing this album show up, I remember convincing myself this was a compilation album, just cause with a name like Deja Vu, it feels like a repeat of what they already made. The fact that this is a studio album is pretty impressive. Every song on here stands out pretty uniquely, even more so than just each one has a different writer/singer. It's mostly ballads but it takes the foundation of folk, country, progressive rock, pop, etc. between each song. It's honestly a pretty perfect album, no complaints I can think of. Best Song: Helpless, Teach Your Children, Woodstock, Carry On

Oh I should have bought that fucking Vinyl. Damn I didn’t know what I was missing

so good

This album is in my DNA...it was Dad's go to when growing up. Beautiful music.

One of the best ever

Fantastic album. I don’t know who sings or plays each instrument, but I love all 4 of em

Can Crosby stills and Nash get any better? Yip add Neil young. Genius

Succinct and full of delights. Definitely a great album, t to b.

Classic. I read David Crosby’s autobiography. The deal was whoever was in the band at the time is in the title of the band on the album as equal billing.

This was the first album I purchased from any of the brilliant singer-songwriters involved with this album. Its introduction made me an immediate fan in my late teens and I feel like I’m still discovering albums from the seemingly endless solo and mixed collaborations from Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young. This really feels like a “lightning in a bottle” type of recording. Every song is incredibly written, performed, recorded and mixed. This is an easy 5 for me.

One of the best albums of all time.

I love the 70s. I think my dad would be disappointed I've never heard of this band until now. Definitely heard a few songs at least.

Dejàá

Love it! Own it.

Amazing songwriting, amazing rock and roll harmonies.

CSNY has been called (by some, not me) "The American Beatles". I think the point is that all four are songwriters and hitmakers in their own right. For me, I would rank them: Young, Crosby, Stills, Nash (Crosby & Stills are pretty close, though). Five of the songs here are on the first album of theirs I bought, "So Far". That'd say something about the album, but really "So Far" comes from two albums and the "Ohio" single. I think from the "So Far" album and "4-Way Street," I knew just about every song from this album, except the last one (which I felt is a bit lagging, but it's short so I will give it to them). CSNY has been a band I keep gravitating towards every so often. I am glad to have seen them back in 2000, fortunately. They are definitely one of my favorite straight-up rock bands. ANd this is a good place to start. Top tracks: Pretty much all of them. This to me, is a classic.

I think after listening to the debut by CSN, I said I wouldn't give another albums of theirs a 5. But this follow-up, the first with Y, is pretty impressive. Side one is amazing, with each member contributing a big tune and then coming together to possibly out-do Joni on their rocked-up version of Woodstock. Crosby's Almost Cut My Hair is the weakest, probably in terms of vocals (just him), but lyrically it is a gem and the musicianship (all of them) is top notch. Carry On is sneaky good by Stills and Helpless is another timeless classic by Young (the vocal harmonies on both are sublime). On their debut I didn't love Nash's contributions as much but he crushes it here with Teach Your Children...and then again with the biggest song on side two, Our House. I won't pretend that side two is as good as side one, but there's still a ton of good moments and vocal or musical harmonies across the songs. Toss up between the title track and Everybody I Love You for second best song on that side, though I really love everything Stills did with CSNY and his 4 + 20 solo effort is very cool. Hard to find too many faults with this album. It's a beauty.

Stone-cold classic album. Their harmonies are iconic and nearly every track is good to great. To me the only exception is Almost Cut My Hair - the lyrics are pretty dumb - apparently Stephen Stills wanted to cut this David Crosby track, which would have been a good decision. That said, Stills doesn't get a complete pass - his Everybody I Love You is the second weakest track on the album (but not bad). The rest though? Outstanding. The 1001 has helped me discover I'm a Neil Young fan. Really liked his feature songs, Helpless and Country Girl (love the end of Country Girl. Would have been a better ending to the album than Everybody I Love You). But the best moments are when they sing those lush CSNY harmonies: Carry On, Teach Your Children, Woodstock, Deja Vu, and Our House. Amazing tunes - easy, easy 5.

This album won me over despite some negative bias—and becomes the first surprise of 1001 Albums. Great songs, meaningful songs, with quality in all other dimensions. I especially liked Teach Your Children, and loved Almost Cut Hair. I feel like letting my freak flag fly—Yes, I feel like I owe it to someone.

This was excellent. This was my second crosby, stills, nash & young album. Previous I only knew one song (you know the one), but both albums have been incredible

Perfect hippy album. Curious to note only a few tracks were done together

Classic, iconic fave

There's no bad songs on this. Good variation in songs. You would know it's more than one person's writing. Stand out song - our house (very melancholy)

One of the all-time classics!

Jao, jao, jao, stoput jao!! Obožavanje ovog albuma!! Baš da lebdiš negdje između dubokih misli i čilanja prazne glave. Predivno nešto. 5/5, 9/10

This is one of my favorite groups. This is a great album. There is never a time when I wouldn't listen to Deja Vu.

What a way to start with the week, but od Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young, prepare yourself some of the best harmonies in the game. Joking aside this is a benchmark album, not only contributing to the success of Neil Young's solo album After the Gold Rush but also being listed as one of the greatest albums ever written and who can blame them, with the beautiful almost effortless harmonies of all 4 members but on top of that Neil Young's banging guitar with a mixture of country and blues style licks and riffs makes this album a brilliant listen every time around. Carry On starts this album off beautifully, the regular folky feel gracefully interrupted by Neil Young's distorted bluesy guitar licks, harmonic vocal cries, organs, funky basslines and bluesy guitar riffs and licks, what else could you want. Teach Your Children goes in the more country feel, with sliding guitar opening the track, tambourine keeping the pace steady, with the all familiar harmonic vocals. Woodstock is the track that introduced a more rock/blues feel to the album, bluesy riffs and licks throughout, with steady funky drum fills and bluesy organ chords with an incredible Neil Young guitar solo with tastey bends that I can just tell can only come from a Telecaster. This album is a must listen for everyone in my honest opinion and repeated listen for me, tracks like 4/20, Our House are as iconic as they are beautiful, what a great album to start the week. 5/5 MTW Certified hood classic x 4.5/5 FTW

One of my all time favorites. This and CS&N's self titled album are pure magic. Amazing melodies, great harmonization, and lyrics that leave you dazed and wondering. My only regret is that I wasn't alive to see them live when it came out.

This album was so beautiful. I listened to it three times in a row

Iconic

Peak album peak group

What an easy-listening album; enjoyed this immensely.

Distinctly and durably great from end to end, this album checks many, many boxes and fully delivers on its promise. "Carry On" is an all-time opener and "Country Girl" and "Everybody I Love You" offer a fully satisfying close – a measured crescendo that blends and amplifies all that comes before. In between are a few classics (the hymn-like "Helpless," the utterly catchy "Teach Your Children Well," and the vaguely Beatlesesque sweetness of "Our House") plus several other notable cuts (including the sublime title track and the uneasily contemplative "4+20"). Only "Almost Cut My Hair" veers toward hippie cliche. The only other quibble would be that these songs might've been even more expansive, coulda gone on longer to good effect. These were unique talents whose collaborations here were well worth all the tension and strife of the recording, one believes, achieving a depth of soul through the gorgeous harmonies, the light jammabilty and the countrified flourishes and veneers.

What a great album! Not a bad track in the mix. Feels like a warm hug for my brain. Lots of "known" songs, and a few newer to me ones that I also love. Enjoyed Almost Cut My Hair and Deja Vu especially.

Masterpiece!

I have always been an oldies fan and these songs bring back the old memories of my youth!! Thank you for this application!!

Great vocals and harmonies, creative songwriting throughout

Awesome

Banger. Love the cover, know it front to back

One of the greatest folk rock albums ever recorded. Four geniuses making timeless songs that still hold up more than 5 decades later.

They got together made a folk rock classic....what can I say its peak. Road trip or laying out on a grass field core.

Biased because this is one of my and my mom's favorites but ahhh so good

Such a classic

After listening to Radiohead I needed something good. This is that and more. One of the best acoustic supergroups ever and this album has many of their hits. Thank you for rescuing me!

I love this album and I was aghast when I read some reviews that would try to lead you to believe that CSNY harmonies are corny. No. They are heavenly. Like the voices of the angels 😇 And while Neil Young’s voice isn’t my favorite, I think his influence added another layer of depth to their folk rock sound. Awesome album start to almost finish. The second to last song, Country Girl, was kind of lame 😕

This album cover looks so familiar and recognizable to me but I’ve never listened to the album. The vocal stack throughtout the whole album is so tight and lush. Precisely well crafted. The entire album is a work of art filled with great folk songs.

Amazing record.

So crazy that C S and N would make their (fantastic) self-titled album AND add Y, AND make such a killer sophomore(?) release. I don't know what's better: the instrumentation or the harmonies. Everything is so good on this album. Side A is perfect. Jerry Garcia plays pedal steel on "Teach Your Children"!!! Bonus points for this album (and Crosby and Stills) encouraging the Grateful Dead to work more with vocal harmonies. Kinda funny that they inspired Jerry & Co. to utilize layered tracks/harmonies and Rolling Stone named 'Workingman's Dead' the best album of 1970.....RIGHT before this one. No good deed goes unpunished.

What a line up of icons. Apart from of course Neil I think this was them at there best. Its a testament to their skill that it stands the test of time this well. Although not the best country album of all time it definitely sets the standard. Our house is by far the best especially considering the context with Jodie Mitchell.

One of the greatest! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Lots of harmonies and great vocals. Very 60s vibes.

An incredibly innovative record blending folk and rock with psychedelia. This album is loaded with unexpected progressions and thought provoking lyrics which makes it an undeniable treasure

Very thankful this introduced me to CSNY and all of their work. Only listened to CSN stuff in the past and this is usually considered the best album from all of their work. Each of the four members contribute in their own way even if it worked for only one album. Young > Stills > Nash > Crosby

CSNY showing why they were a power group.

Epic album for me

Absolutely astonished how good this album was to listen to. I love the country vibes along with the harmonies pulled off in multiple songs. This album stood the test of time as I was bopping to it throughout.

One of the best rock album of ALL TIME... "carry on" a great opener written by Stills... into... "teach your children" the Graham Nass all timer... "almost cut my hair" by Crosby... "helpless" by Neil... then the ensemble take on Joni's "Woodstock"... and that's just SIDE ONE... "deja vu" a lovely track opens side two... by Crosby... Nash once again chimes in with an all timer... "our house"... the HAUNTING "4+20" by Stills... the MONUMENTAL song, "country girl" by Young... and the hippie dippy closer the ensemble track "everybody i love you" written by Stills/Young... if i could give a record ten stars this is it... FIVE STARS..

I was vaguely familiar with CSN&Y before listening to this album, and new the popular song "Our House" which I adore, but hadn't listened to their music at all before this album. First of all, the vocal harmonies on this record are outstanding, as you'd expect from a band like this. An interesting mix of country & rock, with some hippy vibes sprinkled throughout, this album has some damn fine songs on it. "Carry On" is a great album opener, and feels like a perfect setup for what the album is about to deliver. Solid vocals, interesting melody, and sets a cool vibe. "Teach Your Children" felt nostaglic, despite not knowing the era or experiencing it first-hand. "Almost Cut My Hair" is just a cool old-school rock vibe that I'm all for. "Helpless" was pure Neil Young, beautiful and haunting. "Woodstock" & "Deja Vu" continue the good vibes, and "Our House" - the icing on the cake! Loved that song since hearing it as a child, always an enjoyable listen. "4 + 20" is a nice palette cleanser and helps reset the vibes of the album back into that Americana singer-songwriter feel, before "Country Girl" comes in hard. This Young-led track is rich with harmony, and again, carries that signature NY style of haunting, melodic and beautiful. The album closer, "Everybody I Love You", is a perfect ending to this musical journey. It encapsulates all of the great moments from previous songs, and really lets the band showcase what they're all about. Short and sweet, this album was solid from start to finish. Whilst I didn't love every track, the album as a whole was a fantasti listen. I feel like this album would sound great whilst travelling down an American highway in the 70s... which is a very specific requirement but nonetheless! It has to be 5/5!

that was good

Our House is my favorite

⭐️Carry On

Contender

loved loved loved

Favorites: Carry On, Helpless, Our House It's so hard to pick favorites from this record because I adore this as a whole, so I tried to limit my 3 favorites to one per songwriter. Deja Vu is four songwriters in their prime coming together to make some of the best folk rock you'll ever hear. This record contains career highlights for all four men. I'm just in love every time I press play.

epico album amei

Is this the capstone album of the hippy era? Pairing the psych blues rock sound with the rustic Americana country turn, CSNY embodies the back to the land bucolic aesthetic, a shift away from the more confrontational (or at least commentary) 60s sound to an inward looking search for the good life and concern with the outward appearances of rebellion (I almost cut my hair). Amazing vocal performances both from soloists but especially the group harmonies. I love Stills and Young exchanging gnarly filthy guitar leads under the whole thing, and the interplay between the acoustics in the rhythm section. A Jerry Garcia cameo (pedal steel on teach your children) doesn't hurt either! The recording is so nice too - there's so much space between the bass parts in the low end and the soaring highs of the vocals harmonies, and each instrument has its own room to come through and contribute to the whole.

Amazing album that shows each member of the 4 showcasing their talents front stage while also having the chemistry to be in cahoots with each other on non lead songs (well maybe not as much Young but you get it) 5/5

Just love this
