Five bc of our house

sounds as good as ever

Classic album. Unfortunately Spotify doesn't carry all the tracks (Neil Young compositions) I have listened to it before.

Excellent album, I’ve heard one or two of the tracks before, never listened to it front to back. The standout track was Woodstock, they’ve done the best version. There is so much good was packed in one short album, gotta give it a 5

CSNY perfected (and probably invented?) the “harmonizing hippies” sound. They have a unique sound together but each member could have (and eventually was) an artist I. Their own right. AND this is probably their best album. If you want to “get to know” CSNY, this is the record you should grab.

Neil Young come back to spotify please!!!!!!! I already love CSNY and CSN :D I think this is their most famous album? T-T THE BESTTTTT, I dont know what to call it but the choral? vocals are so beautiful. Maybe its just doubled? Also the guitar on Carry On Teach Your Children is such a classic ahhhh, it makes me nostalgic OUR HOUSEEEEEEEEE 4+20 I had never heard but its so simple and the vocals are so affecting

Really enjoyed it, will listen again

Wow I really enjoyed this. I’ll probably forget why I gave it a 5 though

5 stars for the harmonies alone!

Always a great album to listen to.

Holy hell this was good

Obviously a five. The harmonies alone.

I love this album, I grew up with this album!! Saw them about 20 years ago!! So sweet! 5 stars!

Absolute cracker - 5 out of 5

Groovy.

Legendary vocal harmonies, good lite rock instrumentation

among favorites

Better than I remembered...

A classic! The songwriting, harmonies, lyrics and instrumentation just all scream nostalgia. While I don't like Young's voice, you have to admit he has passion and is a great songwriter. He probably contributed to some of the heavier rock bits. I just love the vocals of the CSN trio.

Great album!

- Great album, my kind of music - I like the sound and genre - Top tracks: Almost Cut My Hair, Woodstock, Everybody I Love You, Teach Your Children - Annoying that Spotify doesn’t have all the songs anymore after Neil Young took his stuff off - Harmonies are great

A straight 5. Vocals, musicianship a definite 5 out of 5. The song Deja Vu is quite simply a masterpiece. Likewise 'Carry on'

Album 226 of 1001 Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young - Deja Vu Rating : 5 / 5 Favorite Tracks: Carry On, Teach Your Children, Helpless, Our House Just a remarkable album. Great talents at their peaks. Not much to say about this one except to highly recommend. Anybody would do good to start their day with this album.

Just fucking amazing!! Every song tapped into a particular feeling and just nailed it

Almost cut my hair... it happened just the other day...

Carry On Teach Your Children Helpless Woodstock Our House

Such a great, chill album.

this album rocks, holds up well even 54 years later.

What. An. Album. Every song is amazing. Every song is unique. Best album so far. It’s a real shame it’s not all on Spotify.

All-timer. Such a great record. Kind of a fun version of a supergroup that I don’t really know a lot of off the top of my head. It’s great songwriters each taking turns using the other fantastic musicians as “tools” to craft their own songs. Lots of fun, will keep coming back for more.

Dudes rock

Incredible Second to none in the folksy rock category

Great, chill, classic dad music

long time favorite

Really enjoyed it, got to experience a different genre than I usually listen to!

Only the clash of these titans could have made this jewel possible. Great album!

Another favorite, always a pleasure.

This is an amazing album. I have always loved this music with its wonderful harmonies.

Definitely a shift in gears from what we listened to yesterday. This is another love!

I'm just going to repeat my notes from Aerosmith's Toys in the Attic. This one's on my top shelf. A desert-island-disc. A favorite of all favorites. heart-heart-heart I'll add that Stephen Stills and Graham Nash in particular are songwriters who really speak to me both in CSN(&Y) and solo-ly. But also Mr. Young can sometimes really do it, too --- Country Girl, that's what's up.

Wow this is a beautiful album. What a quartet!

For the past year, my musical appetite has been mostly mellow acoustic-ish (I know there’s electric guitars and stuff used too) music, like CSN/Y, Joni, Cat Stevens, Gordon Lightfoot, Willie Nelson, etc. It’s just been my vibe. Lately, I’ve been wanting to break out of that trend and expanding into more types of music and that was a big incentive to do this project. This is one of several CSN/Y and solo albums I have one vinyl. This is probably my favorite one, even though it doesn’t have Suite: Judy Blue Eyes on it, which I’m sure will pop up at some point, so more to come on that song later. Anyway, yeah, I’m a big fan.

Wow this album slaps at 53 years old. I mean it is expected given that it is an absolute supergroup. It really makes me think of the impact classic rock has had on the American Soundscape. Being from one of the oldest parts of The States and realizing how young the culture is compared to almost every other country, so the creation of "culture" is something I'm quite interested in. In my estimation, the songs and stories that make it into the larger national myth are the ones that resonate with some essential quality of the nation as a whole. Given the massive wide expanses of the US and its insistent push towards individualism it makes sense that the 70s rock focused on the signifiers of being your own person. I'm specifically thinking of Almost Cut my Hair which resembles so many pieces of the the Action Bronson ~2014 song Easy Rider. Bronson's song (obviously about the motorcycle riding heroes) derives so many of it's musical themes from songs like Almost Cut My Hair in an attempt to clothe itself in the symbolism of the American West and motorcycle culture. And its the fact that a modern song uses musical motifs from songs like Almost Cut My Hair to indicate a culture is a huge sign to me that this album was participating in pretty significant culture making. Which is to say, the reason we're hearing hints of this album to this day is not only because the music is excellent, but because it spoke to an essential American idea which still resonates in some way today. Lyrically, the album feels like a standard hippie rock album with the standard trip inspired lyrics (Deja Vu, Woodstock), songs about non-conformity (Almost Cut my Hair, Helpless), and songs about the single man's experience on the road (4 + 20, Our House, Country Girl).

As this album shows, the rare time that '60s music is good is when it's infused with the gritter, harder sound of the early '70s. I enjoyed the versatility between folk and rock, as well as the character that each member brought into the record. They were a supergroup (one of the first ones), and the music showed it. Whether they were fronting their own tracks or coming together to collaborate and harmonize, the results were strong, distinct songs that also meshed with one another really well. And sidenote: this is maybe the best that Neil Young has ever sounded. Standout tracks are Carry On, Teach Your Children, and Almost Cut My Hair.

Their best record. Adding Neil Young was so valuable and brought them to the next level. The perfect blend of 60s hippie music and 70s singer-songwriter. Phenomenal musicians on here.

This is a fantastic album. A bunch of great ones and a couple mediocre ones, nothing terrible. The absolute greats are Carry On, Teach Your Children, Woodstock, Deja Vu, and Our House. That's half the album!

Carry On, Teach Your Children, Almost Cut My Hair, Helpless, Our House

One of my favorite albums. Great vocals with Young. Great songwriting. Woodstock is a classic. Teach your children is a great sing a long in the car.

✨🍀✨

Deja vu! Great memories of when this was big in my life. First when it came out and second early 2000’s.

An all time favourite for me. I bought this lp for $1 at a swap meet in '89. I can't tell you how many times I've listened to it over the years.

This is pretty classic folk music. I don't feel like Crosby, Stills, and Nash have the same heat or quality without Neil Young. Some of these songs feel timeless.

Harmonies - Check Melodies - Check Songwriting - Check Guitars going hard - Check I mean what's not to love?

Enjoyed it more than I anticipated, nice throw back. Amazing harmonies.

Great first half. Standout song: I almost cut my hair

I was tempted to knock this down a star because of Neil Young's horrible views and his support of censorship, which annoyingly lead to my experience of listening to this album being disrupted by having to find every song where he has a writing credit on YouTube because they'd all been removed from Spotify. The same goes for Joni Mitchell, who they cover on this album. Unfortunately, Young's contributions are GOOD, and so is "Woodstock" (I was already familiar with Mitchell's original version, and even used to cry listening to it before she broke my trust), which kind of annoys me even more. I didn't remove the star because I was so excited about finally having a five star album that I hadn't heard before. This is my first, and musically, it warrants that. This is the kind of music I got into this list hoping to discover. I'm 22, and was really taken by 60s and 70s music when I discovered what it was a few years back, but was too overwhelmed by the sheer multitude of artists that I never dug as deep as I would've liked to. This band were one of the many acts from this era that I'd been meaning to get into, but there were so many of those that it was probably never going to happen without something like this list to focus my music discovery. All four are good writers, but I think Nash may be my favourite writer (judging, of course, from this album alone). This could be partly due to the fact that I'd kind of heard his contributions before though. My dad quite often used to sing "Our House" and "Teach Your Children" to me. Those ended up being my favourites. Although I'm certain I would've still fallen head over heels for "Teach Your Children" if I'd heard it for the first time today. It's a truly incredible song. I don't hear songs like that every day. Other than that, opener "Carry On" (written by Stills) was also amazing- the kind of opener that lets you know the album is going to be next level. Favourite tracks: Teach Your Children, Carry On, Our House

Great harmonies, great songwriting, classic great stuff here.

We got the CSN album a few days before this and I thought it was fantastic, but it was missing that wow factor of a 5. Given I am not a Neil Young fan, I expected to like this album about the same or less. And yes, I had a general idea of the songs in both albums coming into this. But something with Young's extra dimension here just transports me to a different time. Literal close my eyes and imagine frolicking in the sunflowers type transportation. Don't get me wrong, Helpless is still by far my least favorite song on the album solely because of Neil Young's voice. But the rest is beautiful, magical, something I would listen to on repeat and melt my day away. The classic folk harmonies get me every time, what can I say. Thanks for coming together to make literally one album before disbanding guys.

When 4 songwriting masters of folk come together to create an album and sing... The vocals are especially beautiful on Déjà Vu. The amount of good stuff these 4 guys produced in the 60s and 70s is totally incredible.

stupid I got this one months ago and forgot about it. I sorta knew I would love it, but it fills me with such joy. It's exactly what I need and what I love about music.

really solid, big fan, not a bad song

It's loaded with CSNY classics. Probably their best album.

beautiful. love.

Lovely classic. 5 stars.

Very nostalgic album for me. Had it in my car on heavy rotation. Love the melodies. “Our House” is one of the sweetest little ditties ever. 4.3/5 but I’ll round up

masterpiece

I have this one!

Classic blues rock. With or without Young, this is a great band.

Just a perfect storm. It's only unfortunate that it was apparently painful to make, and that due to Joe Rogan's douchebaggery, facilitated by spotify, four songs are still missing from that service.

Just a damn fine album from start to finish. Hits the freaking spot when I'm in the mood for it!

Stone cold classic. I really enjoyed listening to these songs- mainly country-folk rock ballads. The collective genius of 4 masters..... ....well to be honest 3 with some help. Some tracks show who had the upper hand in the band.

It’s good,it’s very good folk rock.I can’t really spot a problem with it all. It’s not my type of music but all the songs are good.Especially that Woodstock song about being stardust.

Amazing album from an amazing super group.

Loved this album!! 60s folk rock at its finest. Unfortunately the whole album wasn’t available on Spotify, so only got to hear about half the songs. Listen again: yes Purchase for my collection: yes Favourite Song: Almost Cut My Hair Worst Song:

Classic album. Time to let the freak flag fly!

“Teach your children” might be the low point of the album, despite being so famous. “Almost Cut my Hair” has some funny lyrics and some wicked guitar. “Our House” is probably my favorite song, it just sounds like a Laurel Canyon jam session

one of my favs!

I could *swear* I have already seen this masterpiece pop up on this app. It's what they call a bad case of... déjà vu, is it not? Guess it's because this document about a turning point in American music history *had to* be in this list. And I knew it already. Whoever couldn't see it coming needs to dig further into the past. It's one of the ways you can better understand the present moment. Number of albums left to review: 616 Number of albums from the list I find relevant enough to be mandatory listens: 188 (including this one) Albums from the list I *might* include in mine later on: 86 Albums from the list I will certainly *not* include in mine (many others are more essential to me): 117

This is a favourite of my early youth. A gorgeous album , with classic songs of the time. Every song touches me and brings me back to an earlier, simpler time and place. The individual contributions of the 4 are mostly stellar, with Young's Helpless taking centre stage but followed closely by Carry On, Teach Your Children, Almost Cut My Hair, Our House as well as the dramatic title track. I think the classic songs and the place it holds in my heart adds up to a 5 star album.

Otro que mejor en Tidal. Empieza bien con "Carry on". Muy bonitas "Almost cut my hair", "Helpless", "Déjà vu", "Our home", "4 + 20" o "Every body I love you".

Even better than the debut, with similar strengths but a bit more range and depth. "Carry On" is a terrific opener, "Helpless" an all-time great of yearning and uncertainty (and everything), "Country Girl" suite rich and compelling. Plus there are two nonpareil pop gyms – "Our House" and "Teach Your Children Well" – of deep melodious sweetness that stays just shy of stickiness or sickliness. "Woodstock" is the worst song of the lot to this one's ear. In toto, this record is a a pure, organic classic that's miles above so much of what it engendered.

The difference when Neil sings is wild. The band still sounded the same musically but his voice is just vastly different. I think I prefer when the other three are more prominent though!

This deserves a 5/5 for the harmonies on Helpless alone. I’m not sure it hits the transcendental heights of tracks like Suite: Judy Blue Eyes and You Don’t Have to Cry off the self titled album, but there are no bad tracks here.

Loved this more than I thought I would.

So freakin good. I love these guys.

Unfortunately ended too fast. Great album.

Great guitar. Strange mix of country and rock. Worth a second listen

The best band discovery for me in 1001

Really enjoyed this

chillers

baita som

RIP David Crosby. He died a few days before this album showed up on my page. I was excited to listen to it. "Almost Cut My Hair" is a freakin' jam. Same for "Helpless". That one will get stuck in your head. Damn you, Neil Young! Great vocals. Painful songs from front to back, almost. From the first song: "Rejoice, rejoice, we have no choice..but to carry on." I read that this album is the highest selling album for Crosby or Stills or Nash or Young or as a group...and according to Stephen Stills, it took 800 hours to record. That's saying something!

One of the best albums ever made. All songs are pretty, Woodstock is cheerful, Our House so very beautiful, and 4+20 years so tender it can make me cry.

I know this album so well it's hard to be objective. But this is really good, right? Favourites: Woodstock, Almost cut my hair, Carry on.

Most excellent. Everybody I love you.

This album is awesome. CSNY's usage of vocals is so impressive to me, and the instrumentation is excellent as well. Favorite track: Country Girl

OK I'm going to give this my first 5 stars. The instrumentals were beautiful and I tried to do something else while listening at the same time, but somehow this album demanded so much attention I just sat there and enjoyed listening to it.

I enjoyed this album so much! The harmonies are amazing.

A classic, love the vocal harmonies and guitar.

I love, love, love this album, always have.

One of my all-time favorite albums.

Excellent! Plusieurs classiques qui tombent dans mes cordes!

What the fuck, I thought this was some late-to-the-party, unbearably hippie sap. And it is, but it is fucking awesome!

Apart from one or two songs that are a bit too sweet, I really liked this album! With the benefit of the doubt a five star album (thanks to "Almost cut my hair")

Not as good as CSN in my humble opinion but still a banger and the Neil songs are cracking

Really enjoyable, especially like that there's barely a part where there's only one person singing

One of these superclassic albums.

Top notch.

Easy five star, doesn’t get more classic than this

True musicians

One of the greatest albums ever.

Es bellísimo. Me relaja

A favorite since childhood. Country Girl - essential Neil!

It’s been a long time since I have listened to the album and forgot how great it is.

Great album

One of the greatest albums of all time by an amazing coterie of blockbuster musicians. Still holds up and blows the mind nearly 50 years later.

Impossible to separate this music from where it sits so deeply in my marrow. CSN harmonies are those against which I judge all others. Almost Cut My Hair, Teach Your Children, Helpless, Woodstock, and Our House are songs I've been humming while I do the dishes for the last few decades.

Great album, flies along.

Wow! Wow wow wow. That's all I can think to say right now. Amazing album. Loved the vocals and feel of the entire thing. I will be coming back to this.

An amazing album!

Absolutely stunning

I fucking love this album

Great album. Classic sound with intriguing lyrics. “Teach Your Children” and “Helpless” are wonderful songs that have made my favorite lists now.

A classic especially if I could listen to all of the songs

heard this one many times Very good album, rocks hard addition of young pushes guitar to the front even the over played songs, our house, children still play well love woodstock, almost cut my hair, carry on pretty much a classic, not a 'bad' song on the 'bum would buy used at $10 (heard too many times)

Thought it was great! Favorites were Deja Vu, Our House, Country Girl

Absolutely fantastic collection of songs, such depth in the lyrics and these voices together blended so harmoniously. Superb!

What a great combination of singer songwriters and performers. Good tunes all interesting to listen to and possibly sing along with. A classic of its time and informative of what influence it had on the future.

Carry On muito boa.

Neil Young makes it a 5, otherwise it’d be a 3.

great album

fucking amazing, 10/10

This is simply marvelous.

Perfect

It's quite amazing that this album was recorded in such a disjointed fashion. How did they get those beautiful harmonies without singing together? It just shows their genius. I'm assuming that Stills was the conductor, he is one of the true geniuses of modern music. The addition of Young takes them to another level. While none of the songs reached the transcendent heights of Suite: Judy Blue Eyes, they still were a level above anything released at the time. Except for the excitement that was happening on the heavier spectrum, of course.

incredible guitar sound; landmark lyrics in the songs. noted many of the songs were authored by an individual(s). the singing voices sometimes sound strained. great collection of their best.

Folk rock Juggernaut

So in love. I grew up with all of these musicians and at least some of the songs, so they already had a special place in my heart.

A masterpiece! Great energy; great instrumentation; great creativity.

Thank God I've still got the free Apple Music trial.. What an album, what a supergroup. Our House, Helpless, so much stunning writing. And yes Neil Young's stays just on the right side of 'grating'.

Very much enjoyed this one. Reminded me a little of Fleetwood Mac, or perhaps Fleet Foxes. Great songwriting, harmonised vocals

Sempre essencial.

Full of songs l knew but didn't know they were from this album.

love these fun funky guys

Good to have to listen to this album as I've not heard it in a long time. Still exceptional.

Subtle but beautiful

Love the harmonies and classic guitar.

One of my all-time favorite.

24k gold, one of if not the first vinyls I remember purchasing. Bless up

The original supergroup justifies their existence.

I listened to it one go and let it wash over me and transport me somewhere else. Beautiful harmonies.

O e of the earliest slums zi remember hearing and zi loved it from the moment I heard it, especially Neil Youngest Helpless. But every song has a special place for me. 5 🌟

Great album! Some very familiar songs on there.

I know and love this album well, but I'm always struck by the vocal harmonies of CSN/CSNY, and this album is a great example.

one of the greatest American albums of all time.

A real good

Um grande álbum! Me surpreendeu. O vocais são muito bem trabalhados!

I’m so addicted with this album. Wonderful folk-rock songs with legendary people.

Great vocals, harmonies, guitar solos, drumming, and beautifully mixed.

Crosby, Stills, and Nash really nailed something by adding Neil Young to their lineup. He not only brings some extra great harmonies, I just love it when they cut loose and really rock out. The mellow songs are relaxing and gorgeously arranged, with some of the harmonies giving genuine chills. Just a tight set of songs. As a total aside, I would get this record the day Neil Young pulled his catalog from Spotify (fuck 'em, though, Neil is right). Favorite tracks: "Woodstock", "Country Girl", "Almost Cut My Hair", "Carry On"

Always been a favorite

LOVE AMAZING

Beautiful harmonies, great guitar sound, several outstanding tracks - helpless, our house, teach your children - don't always like the melodies, but the overall sound is always soothing. I played is on repeat all day and loved every second.

Great throwback of the era where they experimented with great guitar riffs.

Just wow. Every verse is a surprise, but it also manages to work in some tender moments. The best CSN&Y album I've heard. So far.

Firm favourite.

A little biased here, because I've known this album since I was a teenager. It is fantastic - songs, performance, arrangements, etc. I should also add that Stephen Stills is one of the most underrated guitarists in history. His guitar work on the tracks "Carry On" and "Déjà Vu" should not be ignored.

You can’t tell me “Almost Cut My Hair” wasn’t a huge influence on Derek Stevens’ work: https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=VUrbtUwsRXo

Favs: Carry On, Helpless, Woodstock Mehs: None I'm a sucker for this kind of music from this time period, and I'm a sucker for Neil Young. Helpless is one of the all time best sad songs.

A good album an introduction to this legendary band

Good stuff

Dit is genieten; beste ontdekking so far ! 🥰🤩

Fuck it

5/5 A true classic by one of the earliest supergroups. Graham Nash said that other than the tracks Neil Young contributes to the record, he did not play or sing another note.

I've heard this album more times than I can count. Songs from the album were part of my dads playlists growing up. I know all the words to every song but never asked who sung them. Hearing this as a full album brings a lot of memories. Chores, playing toys in my room, car rides, relaxing on the couch but mostly my dad. Music is a powerful thing!

brilliant, utterly brilliant. Particularly liked helpless. I would love to sit around a campfire and sing this album

An old favourite, just as good as when I first heard it

Classic album. Neil Young's lead guitar shines through this album and makes what was already a supergroup even better. One of the greatest folk rock statements ever

This album has crazy range, some obvious Neil Young, some classic rock, some bluesy stuff. Killer overall.

5/5 - Classic

Well, I was today years old when I discovered that 'Our House' was CSN&T. I always thought it was some one hit wonder 80's English Band. Great album. Great hits. So many talented writers on one album. Love it.

This is weirdly a difficult album to review - do I mark it 4/5 stars because at this point it has become almost a stereotypical "classic" ... or because I know each of the songs altogether too well ... or is it really this great? For the millions of people who are of a similar viewpoint, it's probably the same (or else you've heard the songs so much by now you ever want to hear them again!). Not much point in commenting on the style - excellent songwriting and musicianship, each member definitely contributing their own unique flair (and apparently almost all at different times - there was much conflict among the members while recording, so the stories go...). If nothing else, it's a great and important document of the biggest and/or most important music of the time. It does falter just a little for me at the end (it frustrates me when albums do that - save me a golden nugget for the album closer plz (...eagerly awaiting Who's Next...)) but the first 7-8 tracks are all too great to knock this down a star. 9/10 5 stars

Our house is one of my favourite songs I've found this year, what a lovely and wholesome bit of music history

Is this the only good supergroup full album—discounting the Eagles adding Joe Walsh? Is this a flawless album? I’d argue yes. Good instrumental arrangements, solid musicianship, beautiful harmonies, hood lyrics, good variety within genre, spans the emotional spectrum and has that special sauce, those moments of transcendence that make it a truly great album. I can listen to it over and over. EASY 5. (Easiest 5 I’ll give unless Weezer Blue Album or any Elliott Smith Album but Roman Candle is on the list)

Easily makes my top 10 list

One of the first ever supergroups and perhaps equally as talented as McBusted.

very very goood

good rock

Absolutely love this album. Beautiful songs with some awesome voices/guitars. 4.7

This was extremely enjoyable, a really varied album of decent tracks.

Amazing album. I knew most of these songs already but didn't know they were all from the same album. A talented bunch of guys.

Such a great one.

Yo listened to this album many times before, Almost cut my hair really connects with me lol. Our House is a beautiful love song and the first CSNY song i ever really liked.

So good I listened twice... Nice to have a purposeful listen to this music I've heard plenty of times before, as I gained a new appreciation for their vocals/harmonies as well as incredible instrument playing. Highlights: -Carry On -Teach Your Children -Almost Cut My Hair -Helpless -Woodstock -Everybody I Love You

Front to back, fantastic album. Am hits.

Top album

Lovely stuff

Bangin

love me some CSN&Y

One of my all time favorite Albums

Great tunes. Melodies for days. Hippie dippy and beautiful. Almost Cut My Hair is a favorite.

The difference between the best (Helpless) and worst (Almost Cut My Hair) track is massive, but as a whole, this album is pretty great.

Surprisingly good

Déjà Vu doesn't have my favorite Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young song (Ohio), but it's still a great album in its own right.

Great-sounding album with a lot of great songs

8/10 Its very 60's vibes instead of 70's lol

lots of great classic songs here. A must listen album. A prototype of the "in-band fighting and tension makes the songs better" genre.

7+ / 10

Love this album. Need to listen to the whole set of CSN&Y albums. Gives more folksy hall and oats folk + some jazziness that is so enjoyable to listen to. Maybe not revolutionary, but an album I could listen to again and again.

Very wide ranging, somewhat too much? Individually the songs are amazing, but there doesn't feel like a solid connection between them.

Great album

Smooth and easy to listen to folk music/folk rock(?). Skilled artists with really good voices. Perfect relaxing music to have on while reading a book or just hanging out in the summer.

My very first impression, a lifetime ago, was simply: "This sounds like YES."Granted, in those days, taping songs off FM radio was my main source of music discovery, and as a mere junior high schooler, my perspective was limited. Yet, if you were to ask for my impression today, I would say: "It sounds like Happy End."But enough of those whimsical comparisons.Listening with matured ears today, the psychedelic flourishes and raw rock elements are no longer the main draw. While the distinct individuality of all four members is undeniably brilliant—with each carving out remarkable paths later in their careers—it is the songwriting of Graham Nash and Joni Mitchell that captivates me most.Whether driven by their intimacy at the time remains a mystery, but the sheer quality of their catchy, pop-infused melodies is unparalleled.Even the title track, "Déjà Vu," carries a psychedelic edge that genuinely echoes the progressive rock of YES.It leaves no doubt as to why this album is universally hailed as a masterpiece. And Neil Young’s vocals possess an indescribable, haunting melancholy that is utterly irresistible.

It's a lovely album. Some songs I've always loved, especially our house. But definitely found new favorites: country girl, almost cut my hair.

It's not my favorite CSNY, but it IS CSNY. A very good album.

While this is not my usual music style, I really liked this album. For me, it certainly has some Led Zeppelin vibes, especially on "Almost Cut My Hair", one of the tracks that really stood out to me. All in all a very interesting album with amazing sound!

Standouts Carry On Helpless Woodstock Our House

De Ja Vu indeed. I know going in it’s getting a 3. Why? Because I can’t bring myself go lower despite a longing to give it a 1 out of spite. It’s musically competent, 1/2 the songs on it are instantly recognizable mega hits, its influence is long reaching and undeniable. This album featured prominently in my dad’s album collection. And because of its inclusion on best of lists and what not I have made myself listen to it again and again. Before this exercise I was unclear about certain issues regarding my relationship with music, and particularly the music surrounding me as a child. But something has become clearer over the last weeks. The false earnestness of the 60’s “folk” movement makes me ill. Damn. As much as I hate aspects of this, our house being a case in point, the rhythm and variations within songs is really impressive. Arghh. I’m giving it a 4. 4 Boolean: True, true, yeah, yeah, let’s all love one another

goes hard

A fan of Neil Young but less familiar with the other three. A decent collection of tracks with the first track and Young's contributions the highlights. Excellent but not essential.

At the heart of it, I just find the ways that Crosby, Stills & Nash (& Young) are very much individual singer-songwriters of a similar ilk and sound but not exactly the same and so they’re trying to corral each other together ends up makes the music absolutely sing. The vocal harmonies are gorgeous, the layering of the instrumentation steps that up further, and them each taking turns at writing songs means you get this really nice variety of theme and tone from song to song (plus their cover of Woodstock is also really good too). I’m already really high on it but I think it could still be a grower as I come back round to it more, honestly.

Kinda embodies why i like the idea of this 1001 albums thing because I actually had no idea who Crosby, Stills, Nash, and Young were other than knowing Neil Young by name alone. Great rock/folk record with a lot of highlights for me, enjoyed it pretty thoroughly

Supergroups almost always end up being less than the sum of their parts, but I do feel this record is an exception. The musicians all mesh really well together and produce an album with some incredible performances and memorable tunes.

For their second album, Crosby, Stills and Nash expanded their line-up to incorporate Neil Young, transforming into CSN&Y. The inclusion of Young adds a necessary grit that prevents the album from becoming overly sweet. However, his arrival upset the established dynamic of the first record, where Stephen Stills had essentially been the musical director. This new creative relationship ultimately did not work smoothly between Stills and Young, resulting with Young effectively treating his contributions as solo records due to Stills perfectionist nature, and presenting almost completed mixes to Crosby, Stills and Nash simply for them to add their vocal harmonies. Yet, despite the fractured nature of the recording process, the final production sounds remarkably cohesive, and the trademark vocal harmonies remain masterful throughout. Side one is a flawless, perfect collection of songs, whereas side two represents a slightly more varied listening experience, where the individual solo styles of the members become more pronounced. This leaves Déjà Vu being a fine album that highlights the immense talent of its four members but the record just misses out on top marks. Four stars. Side One 1. Carry On A great opening track that sets the bar remarkably high. (5/5) 2. Teach Your Children A beautifully crafted, country-tinged number. (5/5) 3. Almost Cut My Hair I realise not everyone may rate this as highly as me but the absolute standout feature of this track is the live interplay of the guitar work between Stills and Young - it is quite stunning. (5/5) 4. Helpless My personal favourite on the album, though I much prefer Neil Young's solo live versions of the track, most notably his performance on Live at Massey Hall 1971. (5/5) 5. Woodstock A heavy, driving transformation of Joni Mitchell's original that perfectly rounds out an immaculate side of music. (5/5) Side Two 1. Déjà Vu Crosby's jazz-inflected title track is intriguing but slightly breaks the momentum. (3/5) 2. Our House Nash's pristine, highly memorable slice of domestic pop. (4/5) 3. 4 + 20 A stark and beautiful track from Stills. (4/5) 4. Country Girl (including Whiskey Boot Hill / Down, Down, Down / Country Girl) A grand, sweeping three-part suite from Young that brilliantly utilizes the group's massive vocal layers. (4/5) 5. Everybody I Love You A high-energy, guitar-driven rocker that brings the album to a lively finish. (4/5) Total - 44 Average - 4.4 358/1001 191/358 albums reviewed were new to me.

Forty years ago, this LP was often on my turntable, but I hadn't listened to it for a decade. A couple of listens, and my opinion hasn't really changed - excellent harmonies, some brilliant songs ... but some tracks just don't hit it for me. "Helpless" the worst offender, tho' I know that many love it.

The change in the middle of Carry On took me by surprise. Only song I already knew was Our House which honestly I’d always assumed was a beatles song. This album is so seventies. It takes you on a journey.

Another 70s rock album. I barely get anything else from this list. Luckily, it was significantly more enjoyable than the others. Cool melodies, nice singin, stellar songwriting.

Folk rock.

very solid folk rock but man i cannot take woodstock or hippies seriously for some reason

Nothing much to say. Good folk rock. (7/10) Favorite tracks: “Carry On”, “Almost Cut My Hair”, “Woodstock”

Love this, really made my afternoon

Found this one to be a lotta funn

Superb

4/5 https://rateyourmusic.com/release/album/crosby-stills-nash-and-young/deja-vu/ Nice! Not every song as catchy as the other, but the variety in singing voices is very enjoyable and there are some absolute bangers on this.

Grande Álbum!

sehr chill, gute spliffer musik. 3.61 sterne

okay maybe this is a banger

I need to listen to this again to enjoy more. I love Neil young generally but I wasn’t gripped by half this album, and really enjoyed the other half, I guess depending on who wrote/sang the songs. Loved the production though. Those 70s drums and tight production is the best. This album has so much notoriety it’s definitely worth another listen.

My rating 3.6. Lovely album

Ah men här är jag, riktift bra! Ändå lite blandad vibb på denna!

Excellent folk rock that is utterly ruined by a single, terrible, Neil Young solo track.

4 masters of their craft coming together. This had to be legendary and well, it is. It's very sharp and punchy for a record in this style, the production is super well done. A great fall album.

4 Liked it, not every song worked for me but most did

Quite a lovely album. Amazing guitars.

This thing was fire. Great vibes. I have nothing bad to say. Definitely a 4/5.

Crazy instrumentals, I added 4 songs to my favourites. At the start I thought that this album will be pain, but it is actually fun and I enjoyed it

A little snapshot in time of music in this era.

Beautiful! I'm always impressed.

More rocky, less folky than I was expecting. Doesn’t quite hit the heights of the prior CS&N album or Young’s very best

Crosby stills Nash and Young did not invent the four-part Harmony They just did it correctly. Every band who is attempted to do four part harmony ever since has to compare themselves to CSNY. And no, folk music isn't for everyone, but this music is consumable by almost everyone. It's approachable and completely belongs on this list because it's iconic.

The peaks are sky high, but the rest of the album is more fine than good. (3.5)

It’s pretty great I gotta admit. As much as I may groan, sigh, cringe or otherwise at a few of these tunes, that’s about sthg else if I’m honest. The album can’t be held responsible for thirty-eleven-teen Vietnam movies high jacking these quintessential 60s classics. That Neil solo too. Can always pick out his style & I’m here for it. This is an easy 4.

Will revisit closer

Nothing notable but pretty chill

Some of these songs are so beautiful. This album is a wonderful mix of blues, rock and roll, pop and folk. I need to listen to more CSNY.

This was the perfect album for the first really hot day of summer - didn't realise how many bangers came from this record and made me remember how much I love a mix of vocal tone 🤩

Not every song grabbed me, but really liked this overall. Not too long and nice to have variety! Havent heard Our House is years and years so that was a welcome surprise, also liked Country Girl

Very solid album from CSNY

This is a nice listen.

Yeah… I want to hate. I do. I strongly dislike Neil Young. I feel like I am supposed to like this the way I am supposed to like the Beatles. It bugs me. But… yeah, I have to admit it’s good. I would never listen to it if I weren’t compelled. The presence of Teach Your Children makes that a certainty. But I have to give the album a 4, none the less. Boolean: yes, I admit it was good to hear this yet AGAIN before I die.

I was so ready to be a hater, but this slapped. Still prefer Michael Scott’s version of ‘Teach Your Children’ though.

Classic rock :)

Some good folk rock, with a touch of country influence. Sometimes it may fall into background music, but the music is well crafted and the layered harmonies are gorgeous. 'Carry On' starts off the record and it is a stomping folk rocker before turns all psychedelic when it gets to the bridge. I was there was more surprises like that on here. 'Our House' is the only song I knew before diving into this and it makes me feel rather emotional, even if it is just about the simple satisfaction of having a place to call your own with the person you love. Sometimes songs don't have to be complex musically or lyrically to stir some emotion out of me. Having only been acquainted with Neil Young before pressing play, this album has made me interested in hearing from the rest of this supergroup.

So far, I am really enjoying this album. The songs are really good, even if the voices are sometimes grating. Overall, this is giving a 3 or a 4, not something life changing but still an enjoyable listen

A solid effort by CSN and sometimes Y.

They’re great together. One of the bands where my ideal situation would be a greatest hits album but yeah, I’m into it

muito bom véi

Moer like tis please

Always is nice to hear an album of these stars.

very enjoyable boomer classic

This record was very good. I wasn't expecting what was given here, but I am pleasantly surprised. Favourite Track(s): Almost Cut My Hair, Deja Vu, Our House Least Favourite Track(s): Carry On

The beautiful harmonies and warm folk-rock sound often feel nostalgic, but there is also an underlying sense of uncertainty and emotional weariness running through the record. Almost Cut My Hair and Helpless stood out to me the most. In particular, “letting my freak flag fly” felt deeply relatable to me as someone who has grown older without ever fully fitting into society.

I was not expecting to like it as much as I did! I enjoyed the cross section between classic rock, folk, and country and thought the intersection of them were fused artfully. I thought the vocal harmonies throughout the album were tasteful and contributed positively to their overall sound. Additionally, the light guitar licks between verses/choruses were effective in adding interest, without taking away from the focus of the song. Personally, my favorite tracks were Almost Cut My Hair and Deja Vu. Would absolutely listen again!

I actually know and really like Teach Your Children and Our House, I didn't know this was the group that did those songs! It definitely captures the general feel of the 70's, that's for sure. Good background music for work, maybe not an album I personally would choose to actively listen to.

A lot of great tracks on this one. Carry On, Teach Your Children, Woodstock, and Our House are all classics and Neil Young's Helpless was new to me but very good. What really makes this a supergroup is seeing how each member contributes so much to the songwriting. There were a couple that didn't hit as much for me, but this is a very fine album.

"our house" fave song out of the album and "carry on." Makes me remember of my grandparents blasting music like this in speakers at 2 pm. "4+20" is a vibe too damn. Reminds me of the movie Sinners highkey. Anyways 3.7/5

This one brings back memories of seeing CSN&Y live twice in 1975 and a highlight was an extended version of "Carry on." Distinctive guitars play with "Almost cut my hair" with Stephen and Neil. Also, another memory form that time was a high school friend who was a piano savant. He listened to "Our house" twice then sat down to his piano and played it from start to finish. The two weakest songs were from Neil Young compared the rest of the album.

This album is great. Nearly a five. Came up just short.

This is some real hippie ass shit.

I was familiar with a lot of this record and enjoyed the vibe of the whole thing . A couple of beautiful standouts.

Probably their best album yet I can objectively say it very awesome but the country twist is not personal preference. The blues aspect thou is mindblowing and gives it another level of technical and improvisation vibe. A very good album

Who would of thought that adding Neil Young to the roster would make it better? Crazy idea...

Well this is some boomer rock right here. But it's also a stone cold classic, basically a greatest hits collection. Having Young on board for this it is the icing on the cake with his contributions "Helpless" and "Country Girl." Yes, the hippie manifesto "Almost Cut My Hair" is pretty cringe but "Teach Your Children," "Woodstock," "Our House"...pretty damn good.

Defining folk rock album. Unsurprisingly I found myself most drawn to the songs that Neil Young wrote and sang lead on, but there's not a bad song on this. Also really enjoyed the Joni Mitchell-penned Woodstock

My brother loves this, classic

I enjoyed.

I really enjoyed this album, lots of creative songwriting

This is really good. I don't know what I can say about these beautiful harmonies and interesting arrangements that hasn't been said before about these guys, but this is a great and enjoyable listen. It was a little more rockin' overall than I was expecting! I knew "Our House" by name coming into this, but a few of the other songs were mainstays growing up with my parents' record collection that I couldn't really place until now. Really good, will absolutely listen again and would most likely buy the record were I to come upon it in the wild.

it's growing on me. some good songs i'm glad to have heard. faves: helpless, woodstock, déjà vu, our house, country girl

Classic album by this supergroup Beautiful harmonies. Brilliant songwriting and playing. Still sounds great today.
