Deja Vu

Oh no, they've metastasized. What was once three folk men has become six, doubling like the heads of the Hydra. This is really great though, I thoroughly enjoyed this. Again, great vocal harmonies, and some notably impressive instrumental performances, especially in the guitar and bass. Favorite tracks: Our House, Carry On, Teach Your Children, Almost Cut My Hair. Album art: Very rustic. As noted above, the boys have doubled and gained a dog. This is starting to look like the plot of THE THING. 4/5

Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young's voices when they harmonize is the sound of the horns you hear at St. Peter's Pearly Gates. Yes, better than Van Halen. Yes, better than the Eagles. YES, better than The Beatles (sorry, I don't make the rules). There is not a single bad song on this album, and while it's distinctly a folk-rock record, there is so much sound that comes from it that nothing sounds the same. I can see why some think Our House is a little out of place, but to me it adds a lot more diversity to the sound this album represents. Modern folk and Americana artists owe a lot to this band, but specifically this album. This is a masterclass in guitar songwriting and playing. Absolutely one of my favorite records of all time. There's a lot more to this album than I thought there was going to be... I expected it to be straight down the line country folk, and there's definitely bits of that here like on Teach Your Children. But a lot of the album grooves and rocks; Woodstock is a rock n roll banger, Almost Cut My Hair and Carry On are heavy and groovy, and Our House is whimsical and fun... Deju Vu is the highlight though. It's almost jazzy in its acapella verse vocals and epicly psychedelic on the slowed down, mellowed out choruses. Easily the best supergroup album I've listened to through this website.

This album is cool. but it's really not for me. I don't think it's bad but I'm not a super big fan. It feels really old, and I don't really digg the classic rock thing. So no disrespect to them or anyone else to enjoy this one, But for me it's a hard meh.

I've heard this album more times than I can count. Songs from the album were part of my dads playlists growing up. I know all the words to every song but never asked who sung them. Hearing this as a full album brings a lot of memories. Chores, playing toys in my room, car rides, relaxing on the couch but mostly my dad. Music is a powerful thing!

An undoubtedly strong album from the Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young era (probably the strongest from this line-up) that shows classic harmonizing vocals and soft-hearted lyrics. This album is the ideal short and sweet listen.

An old favourite, just as good as when I first heard it

Thanks Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young for reminding me that if I ever want that hideously majestic mullet I've been dreaming of I've got to hold out with the scissors a bit longer. I'm not giving in an inch to fear 'cause I promised myself this year! :/ That was the only standout track for me, other than the obvious hit Our House which is GREAT. Deja Vu and 4+20 were nice chill tunes too. Country Girl was a pleasant Galactic Country® surprise (space western music?) but otherwise the album was sort of unremarkable to me at this time.

Con "Carry on" quest'album parte col botto. Subito dopo però perde un po' di carica con un pezzo troppo country e due ballate che un po' mi annoiano (però ci stanno dai). Poi riparte co "Woodstock" che ha uno di quei riffetti sfiziosi e porta avanti una serie di pezzi interessanti tipo "Deja Vu" il cui inizio mi ricorda quelle parti recitate sulle tabla indiane. Nel complesso quest'album mi è piaciuto tanto. Unici due nei sono quelli di non condividere come si evolvono alcune canzoni (es. Carry on, io l'avrei lasciata totalmente acustica) e di trovare alcune ballads poco interessanti. Mi trovo in bilico perché sento che 4 sia troppo e 3 troppo poco: darei 3.75 se potessi.

Good album. I LOVE "Helpless", which is the only song I was familiar with.

That's a hell of an opening track. Fav track is definetly Almost Cut My Hair. Deja Vu and Country Girl are strong contenders too. Just an overall solid album with a cohesive track order and stellar songs. 👌

Well, I was today years old when I discovered that 'Our House' was CSN&T. I always thought it was some one hit wonder 80's English Band. Great album. Great hits. So many talented writers on one album. Love it.

A folksy rock (heavy on the folk) album that I did not expect to recognise any songs from, but 'Our House' was the one. Not too out of place for an alternative radio station by today's standards. Best: Our House, Woodstock Worst: Almost Cut My Hair, Country Hair 2.5 stars

overall i liked the album, but one song aggravated me to a point where i now have to rate it a three. helpless- it was just so bad it ruined my energy on the whole album, but there were other great ones.

This is weirdly a difficult album to review - do I mark it 4/5 stars because at this point it has become almost a stereotypical "classic" ... or because I know each of the songs altogether too well ... or is it really this great? For the millions of people who are of a similar viewpoint, it's probably the same (or else you've heard the songs so much by now you ever want to hear them again!). Not much point in commenting on the style - excellent songwriting and musicianship, each member definitely contributing their own unique flair (and apparently almost all at different times - there was much conflict among the members while recording, so the stories go...). If nothing else, it's a great and important document of the biggest and/or most important music of the time. It does falter just a little for me at the end (it frustrates me when albums do that - save me a golden nugget for the album closer plz (...eagerly awaiting Who's Next...)) but the first 7-8 tracks are all too great to knock this down a star. 9/10 5 stars

Lo sentivo parecchio intorno ai 20 anni, ma comunque mi concentravo su pochi pezzi. In particolare sono sempre stato in fissa con 4 + 20 che in effetti rimane una grande canzone. Riascoltarlo dopo tutti questi anni me lo ha fatto apprezzare di più. Me lo ricordo come un album molto folk west coast e invece c'ha un sacco di influenze inaspettate, anche molto diverse da pezzo a pezzo e molte sonorità sono ancora abbastanza moderne cosa che m'ha stupito. Although perhaps not as great as some of the other efforts (both together and apart) put out by the folk rock Gods, this album shows even at the most contentious moments between them, they are still light years ahead of anyone else. Favorite Song: Almost Cut My Hair

Really enjoyed this one. Lots I didn't know were their songs.

It would feel churlish to complain too hard about this; the whole thing has a sepia tinged, mid-tempo pleasantness about it that is hard to dislike. But at the same time, it’s hard to get too excited about. Does music need to set your pulse racing with every sound? Of course not, but it needs to make you feel something. This all feels so comfortably within this talented array of musicians’ wheelhouse, and I find it hard to connect with Competent Musicianship, where that Competent Musicianship is the only aspect in play.

My parents played this album all the time when I was a kid. This literally feels like my childhood. While listening to it I'm starting to realize how much my parents wanted to be hippies and how having us probably harshed their mellow. I do hate lap steel guitar though. Our house feels so good to listen to. This is a great album though. Just different enough but just the same enough. The Harmonies are mind blowing. The guitar sounds are incredible.

what a weird juxtaposition this album is. the music in the background is alright, some bits are quite enjoyable, but the singing grates. for starters i can't really be arsed with neil youngs voice and then when they do that super 70s harmonised singing stuff it doubles the pain.

Saved Prior: Teach Your Children (kinda. I saved a version on the CSN deluxe version that I like a lot more without realizing that it came from this album. Talk about Deja Vu) Off Rip: 4 + 20, Country Girl, Everybody I Love You Cutting Edge: Carry On Overall Notes: Catastrophically, Superbly, Normal. Y? I couldn't tell you. (CSNY?? Get it???) These guys have to be one of the most overrated acts of all time. Were they the first people to think of harmonizing while playing guitars? I genuinely do not understand their insane critical and commercial success. Maybe I'm failing to grasp how wide reaching their influence is, because they sound so NORMAL looking back at them. These guys are the boomer band to end all boomer bands. Not that it's terribly bad, it just is.

An Americana classic, though some of the single vocals have not aged well.

Stills grooves. Neil mopes. Crosby psychs. My man Nash agape loves. Perfect record except Country Girl, which for some reason gets a dramatic dirge/organ treatment. I love that Crosby has turned into a notorious shit-talker in his old age. That there's a massive feud among legendary classic rock musicians that 50 years later is still burning hot and completely irrelevant. Neil Young: "Crosby should write an introspective book: ‘Why People Won’t Talk to Me Anymore.’ He made a lot of great music for a long time. I don’t know what happened with David. I got nothing to say. I love Stephen. I love Graham. If a reunion happens, it would be a surprise. I won’t close the door on anything. I can hold a grudge with the best of them but only if there’s a reason for it.” Graham Nash: “I don’t like David Crosby right now. He’s been awful for me the last two years, just fucking awful. I’ve been there and saved his fucking ass for 45 years, and he treated me like shit. You can’t do that to me. You can do it for a day or so, until I think you’re going to come around. When it goes on longer, and I keep getting nasty emails from him, I’m done. Fuck you. Is this the only good supergroup full album—discounting the Eagles adding Joe Walsh? Is this a flawless album? I’d argue yes. Good instrumental arrangements, solid musicianship, beautiful harmonies, hood lyrics, good variety within genre, spans the emotional spectrum and has that special sauce, those moments of transcendence that make it a truly great album. I can listen to it over and over. EASY 5. (Easiest 5 I’ll give unless Weezer Blue Album or any Elliott Smith Album but Roman Candle is on the list)

I always had mixed feelings about CSNY. My best friend Rick (RIP) was THE biggest Neil fan in the world and always went on about how they disrespected him eg by  positioning him out of the spotlight during concerts. Neil eventually demonstrated very clearly that he was the best of the four.  Neil was too good and too cool to be on the outside looking in. I guess it's best to look at this as a CSN LP with a couple of songs thrown in by an outcast. Looking at it that way, I can say that CSN have excellent harmonies and wrote some charming and fun songs. Oh yeah, I can also say that one of those  outcast songs (Helpless) happens to be the best song on the album.

Boring first two tracks. Then two absolutely great tunes (which I think are new to me!). Helpless is right in my wheel arch! Love it! Deja Vu was dull. Two more classics in Our house (which I had heard before and 4 + 20. Love both of them. Fucking hell. Country girl is hurting my ears. too many drugs lads. The last track had potential but there is way too much going on. Like the rock voice guy agreeing with everything but hate the rest. 3/5 as the good tracks are really good!

This is fine. I like Neil Young, and consequently enjoyed his songs most (maybe as I knew them before hand). Generally, found this pleasant, but maybe a bit too polished and perfect. Lacks a little bit of edge/emotion.

Hmm... No sé. suena medio Los Beatles, y por eso yo estoy fuera :V No, pues, no me llamó tanto, salvo por woodstock y Country girl. Se rescata también que hay variedad, o sea que hay sí algo de hard-rock, algo de folk, algo más balada, más pop, etc. Aun así no me genera mood.

This album has a "sixties anthems" feel to it. The glittering harmonies remind me of their Woodstock performance. It's a very different style and no one has sounded like that before or since. The fact that there are 4 songwriters guarantees variety. I really like the Neil Young contributions (and Joni's). The title track wanders a bit and "Almost Cut My Hair" shouldn't have made the cut, so to speak

I was ready to give this one star after the first two songs but I really enjoyed Almost Cut My Hair and Helpless. And the original Our House is cool I guess... That being said, the album genre is all over the place and the hippie psychedelic bordering on country vibe just isn't for me.

This album is what I'd describe as 'something I wouldn't choose to put on myself but like it when someone does'. Would pair well with a doob. One to listen to if you want to feel cool and have other people know you're cool too. I got a little bored though but I have a short attention span

Però m'ha semblat una mica irregular en la primera escolta. Suposo que la diversitat de compositors i cantants no ajuda a que hi hagi més unitat al llarg de l'àlbum.

This was a difficult one to rate for me. I recognize the huge historical significance that this early super group has wrought, but some songs with the Glorious Harmonies, in particular Carry on just grate on me. There are a lot of standout songs though like Almost cut my hair and all the Neil Young songs that pull it way up.

Always preferred this band with Young onboard. The vocal harmonies alone are mindblowing, but overall just a fantastic front to back album.

Simply amazes me how the four come together as one. It’s a shame that as a millennial, I can never truly appreciate the cultural impact they had at that time.

3.5 | No soy gran fan de los "supergrupos." Aunque es interesante a veces ver qué sale con tanto talento aglomerado creo la mayor parte de las veces no funcionan simplemente porque la mayor aglomeración es de egos. Esto aplicó con CSNY (que de entrada mejora muchísimo añadiendo esa Y) con una discografía en realidad pequeña y con sonado escándalo sobre el milagro que fue siquiera sacar el disco. Aún así, sigue siendo muy interesante y muy bien hecho el trabajo. Creo que de los discos que han tocado está entre los más armoniosos (tal cual literal pensando en la definición de armonía como el equilibrio de sonidos y la combinación y secuencia de acordes), es literalmente muy suave al oído. Unos toques de psicodelia con mucho rock folk ofrecido por algunos de los mejores en el negocio. Inevitablemente como buen supergrupo se me hace que los trabajos individuales de cada quien brillan más a pesar de lo bueno del conjunto de partes. Se siente raro no tener mucho más que decir pero las canciones a pesar de no destacarse ninguna en particular son un conjunto muy bien armado. Lo más impresionante de todo esto es cómo David Crosby mantuvo el mismo look durante literalmente 50 años.

I had always thought of these guys as an easy listening group, but this album was more similar to bands like Cream with it's heavier guitar riffs. I loved it. These guys are one of the best at harmonizing vocals.

This one I struggled with. It is a technically well done album but most of the tracks just dont land for me. Songs that hit a more folk rock tone like Woodstock are generally enjoyable but tracks like Helpless just don't work for me. That said the harmonies are wonderful and there is something about the percussion that I do generally quite like.

Very good. At times seems dialed in, the story of how this was created kinda lends a hand to that idea. Talented musicians for sure. Near flawless, yet didn't capture my attention fully.

Este disco tiene una mezcla interesante de rock y folk. Como que es el tipo de música que debía haber estado haciendo Bob Dylan, si no hubiera estado tan ocupado maullando como gato y quejándose del sistema.

Que manera tan uniforme y limpia de juntar géneros musicales en grabaciones por separado, aportar cosas y que al final todo se escuche muy bien aunque sus egos eran inmensos. Sería lo mismo su hubieran trabajado todos juntos en un estudio?

Otro disco de Crosby, Stills, Nash, Young o cualquiera de sus combinatorias y permutaciones. No es malo, pero ya no sorprende. Se nota incluso más que en el anterior lo dispares que son las canciones dependiendo de quién fuera el creativo detrás. No me gusta nada el estilo vocal que hacen cuando cantan en coro, sin chiste, ni juego de notas ni armonías, nada más todos afinados en la misma nota.

Ensikuuntelulla tämä jäi vähän sieluttomaksi ja ohueksi elämykseksi, vaikka teknisesti kaikki olikin kohdallaan. Onneksi annoin vielä pari lisämahdollisuutta, koska tällöin levy tuntui heräävän henkiin aivan eri tavalla. Ei edelleenkään mikään täyskymppi, mutta kuitenkin oikein mainiota laulantaa ja musisointia! Yksittäisistä biiseistä ei mikään tuntunut nousevan selvästi muiden yläpuolelle. Ehkä Country Girl oli sellainen jonka nimi piti erikseen tsekata kun kuulosti mukavalta.

Beautiful. - 1 Woodstock: feels like I’m right there back in the 70’s - 0.75 Deja Vu: intro is annoying. Start to like it at the 1 min mark - 0.5 Our House: Piano coupled with the harmonies is beautiful - 1 4 + 20: Wish it was longer - 1 Country Girl: too much going on, here - 0.25 Everybody I Love You: Epic conclusion - 0.75 Rating - Composite of each individual song score - 7.5/10

Good album but would have preferred more songs of them all together like the last two songs of the album

Embarrassingly only knew of 'Our House' from this album, which is far from the best track. The whole album is so sweet. Instantly a new favourite from the era.

Однако, в очередной раз я понимаю, что вряд ли вернусь к Deja Vu.

Dude could sing!

Gets sappy at times (Teach Your Children) and the addition of Neil Young isn't always strictly a positive (Helpless), but they're legends for a reason, and they pulled out some great ones for this collaboration. Of course, their best offering comes courtesy of Joni Mitchell. Best track: Woodstock

i liked a few songs off of here! some were kinda slow/boring

heard at least half of this album constantly on classic rock stations lmao. bizarre to finally hear it again. its weird i feel like for a lot of the 60s and 70s the most acclaimed stuff tended to be rly popular too. this albums pretty good but a little inconsistent. some more good early 70s folky shit. carry on never hit me that hard. our house might be my fav song here i was a little suprised people dont like it as much. amazing song the rest of the songs that got played a ton are good too. not huge on some of the deep cuts since i heard so much of this already and the songs kinda burned in and out of my conscious mind i guess i got .... deja vu .... listening to this album. eh? ehhhh?????????????????????
