The epitome of pop. That album that makes me want to go on a fun montage with my friends and not look back.
How am I *not* giving this 5 stars?
Not my favorite Taylor album, but this is still full of good hits and quality cuts that don't get radio play. This feels like a 4 or 4.5 musically for me, and I didn't want to over rate it...but the songs I wasn't familiar with were so good, and that plus the importance of this shift in her sound and how she was percieved gives me enough reason to bring it to a 5. || This album specifically makes me wish you would get certain connected albums in order...or at least within a semi-close timeframe so that listeners could better compare the evolution in an artist's sound. That would make me much more willing to get excited about some of the artists that have frequently appearances (looking at you bowie and costello).
Pure pop perfection. Every song is catchy and the production is spot on. I tried to fault it but found myself foot tapping and singing along to every track.
The key here is the nonsingles, as I think is the case with Taylor generally. Huge ups to Clean in this regard, interesting instruments on that one. Of course the singles themselves indicate a sonic shift for Taylor that is much more pop-centered, and a wide spread there. Probably a 4.5, but still deserving of a 5 for how prominent this album was during its release.
Sorry in advance you guys, but this album deserves a 5 in my eyes. As far as pop goes this is likely one of the least annoying or repetitive ones of the bunch and many of these songs were ones I grew up hearing during the peak of my childhood. Yes T Swizzle wrote them all about her exes, but they are catchy and not as bad as most pop songs. Also I hate her country vibe albums and this one is not that
Listened to on 4/12/22 5/5 Favorite song: This Love, Style I knew all of this and loved every minute of it - absolute bangers
An album with so many certifiable bangers. It’s so strong all the way through I just had to give it a 5
4/12/22 I’m so freaking excited!! I love this album and have already listened to it all the way through many times before. Personally I think it’s one of Taylor’s bests with so many great hits that I can listen to over and over again! Fun lyrics and high energy this album is AMAZING! I literally know every word to every song on the album!! Favorite song: Bad Blood maybe but literally I cannot pick a favorite I love them all!!
Modern classic. Can’t deny t-swizzle’s a legend
This album has quite a few singles, and I was familiar with them, but I had never listened to a T.Swift album before. The album marks the shift to full on pop, and it definitely does fit right into that genre. It is a good album. I wasn't really awed by the album, because there wasn't anything there that I didn't expect, I guess. But it was very likable and easy to listen to.
Has it been nearly 8 years since this was released? Amazing how time flies. Back then I was worried about Taylor Swift going full-on pop because I really loved her country songs. One listen to 1989 and my reservations were swept aside. Every song on this album won me over with infectious hooks galore! I know people who are dismissive of Taylor Swift - but even if you don’t like her music you can’t deny her incredible talent. Transitioning from country to pop is a very challenging feat that a very small number of artists were ever able to pull off. Taylor did this while continuing to write most of her songs, kept her fans in the process, and dominated the music charts the whole time. My love for this album is already obvious since I have had it in regular rotation for the last 8 years. I know haters gonna hate but there’s a special place in my life for Taylor and I’m very happy to see her on this list.
I’m a fan!
One of my favourite Taylor Swift albums. I like the high tempo start and the slower finish.

bangers only
I have to admit I will never stop loving this album...is anyone surprised? I have probably listened to it 100 times and it never gets old. This was when Taylor Swift fully transitioned from the pop-country style to just plain pop. Welcome to NY is the most uplifting declaration of that change and from there the whole album is so nostalgic to the mid-2010s.
Wait Tay Tay used to be so good. I will use her cute nickname from now on, I didn't think she deserved it before
Not much for pop, but Tay Tay I do like. She’s a true songwriter and performer. This album has some classic pop writing. Good wholesome fun
Njen najbolji album
Was confused when I didn’t know the first song because I remember this album being massive. Bit of a slow start but then the album transitions into ‘Black Space’ which is a bit of a classic honestly - still remember the words 10 years on! I also really like the production on this song - there’s something uniquely infectious about it. There’s some other good hits on here: ‘Style’ and ‘Wildest Dreams’ to name some. But in my opinion this album is very hits reliant and I don’t come out of it thinking about the album, just the big songs. A really enjoyable listen though! Personally ‘folklore’ is my favourite Taylor Swift album, with its folk style, so I hope to see this on the list one day as I imagine Mum and Dad didn’t enjoy this album much haha. Screw it, this is getting a 4, there’s too many memorable songs.
Objectively good music that I subjectively don’t like
Didn't have too many preconceptions; I've heard a few radio hits of course but never listened to a full Taylor Swift album before. Blimey, it's actually really great! Good to know that the hype and exposure is backed up by serious talent.
Look , I’m not an avid Taylor fan, but let’s not pretend that half of this album isn’t pop perfection. The b-sides aren’t as strong as the singles; however, that back to back “Blank Space” into “Style” makes up for it. I genuinely think “Style” might be the greatest pop song ever created, and if not, it at least makes the top 5. Fav Songs: Style, Wildest Dreams, New Romantics Least: All You Had to Do Was Stay, How You Get the Girl
These songs would be so much better with real drums on them imo. Otherwise the album is as good as radio pop can get.
Personally, I'm not a Swifty. But this album is a bonafide classic.
Some amazing music and production. Every song is beautifully crafted and just drags you in. I do wish that some of the songs took a few more risks and had more room to breathe - not every songs needs to be a 4 minute single. What spoils it for me is that it feels like the soundtrack to a high school drama. Which it probably has been used for multiple times. Lyrically it really paints a picture, but a picture of a shallow self absorbed person going through a breakup with no shred of intropection beyond 'I like bad boys lol'
Full of bops, didn't expect to like it that much
If you like pop music, it's pretty damn good.
Some perfect pop. Great album.
You can always tell a band that played like 300 shows per year for a decade before making it. They played it one way and people yawned and checked their watches and they played it a different way the next night and people tapped their toes and got up and danced and so they play it the second way forever or until they play it a way that works even better. Then they do that night after night with every second of their set over the course of years until they have a catalog of music that evolved from what they wanted to play to what their audience wanted to hear. They learn to make “pop” music one audience reaction at a time with their data gathered in real time and whether they make enough money to afford gas to get to the next show as motivation to get it as right as they can get it every night until they are fully optimized. It’s similar to an abused partner who earns a PhD in identifying and defusing their abuser’s moods or an influencer who won’t make rent if they don’t algorthymitize themselves into one million likes and subscribes. Hunger and pain are excellent motivators, so is a single-minded determination to make a dream come true. All these people turn themselves into someone who is not having any fun - a spy who is always behind enemy lines - because they have to in order to survive or to become the thing they think they must in order to be happy. Trump is that way. He doesn’t believe most of the things he says, which is one reason he’s so miserable. He says some bullshit and the rednecks yawn and the next night he says something worse or dumber and they cheer and so he says it the second way until he finds something they like better. He isn’t a cult leader; he’s a trained dancing monkey. He can’t be otherwise or he would lose his hold on his constituency, but he also just can’t be otherwise. He’s lost the ability to be anything other than a weather vane blown in whatever direction Fox News addicted retirees want him to blow. People will say “why doesn’t Elon Musk fix world hunger?” or “why doesn’t Jeff Bezos treat Amazon workers like human beings and retire and enjoy being rich?” Because they can’t. The only person who can make a billion dollars is a person who turns themself into a machine whose every thought and action is dedicated to increasing the amount of money they have above any other consideration. They can’t turn that off. They can’t relax or make moral choices. They have killed their human selves to become billionaires. I have teenage daughters and so I’ve seen parts of Taylor Swift documentaries, including a moment when she finishes a show and then sits in her hotel room alone (except for the camera crew) signing merch into the late evening. She’s a billionaire and a pop star and she doesn’t appear to enjoy a moment of it. She spends all her time trying to make money and sell records and concert tickets because that is who she had to become to become “Taylor Swift” and she can’t turn that off. Her engagement announcement described her as an English teacher and her fiancé as a gym teacher because she views herself how her fans view her and her original fans are buying diapers and paying rent and car payments rather than buying albums and so she’s forgotten them. She cares only about people paying to consume her product and that’s tweens, and her product is herself, to the extent she exists. Taylor Swift is an entertainer and a billionaire and an abused partner and an influencer and a product. I assume that the human being she once was had dreams and ambitions and destroyed herself to make those come true and I expect she would be proud that she did it, but she’s not here to enjoy it. She erased herself to become a person whose dreams came true but the person she’s become doesn’t have those dreams because she doesn’t have dreams, and in fact doesn’t have anything. She is a machine whose only purpose is to sell records and make money. She is a gollum created by a person who isn’t around anymore but she can’t stop doing the things her creator created her to do. And in some way I think that is what it is like to be an entertainer or a billionaire or a politician or an influencer, or maybe even just to be a human being. Maybe constantly tweaking and optimizing yourself to get the reaction you want from others, erasing who you were to become who people want you to be, is just the human condition. “Everybody here was someone else before.” Anyway, this is a very good album of pop music that doesn’t really connect with me and feels kind of sterile. Three stars.
To use Taylor’s own lyrics against her: it’s so bad, but she does it so well. First off, let’s address the fact that singles are supposed to promote and sell an album. Most of the singles from 1989 are either irritating or bland. Either way, they are the worst songs on the album. “Blank Space” is dull, corny pop which hopes that one single hook line (“go down in fla-ames”) will disguise the fact that it’s a nothing song. “Shake It Off” is straight up annoying and has been played to death. “Wildest Dreams” is slow and blah. Not a good sign. However, the worst of the singles by a country mile is “Bad Blood”. My God, it falls into the irritating and boring categories (borritating?) at the same time. A seven year old could write the music and lyrics. Just listen to the melody. It’s awful...and so basic. One of the most overhyped pop songs of the generation. It’s an abomination of music. Whenever I hear a Taylor Swift diss track, I’m reminded of a line by Harvey Keitel’s character in From Dusk Till Dawn. He asks George Clooney “are you such a loser, you can’t tell when you’ve won? You’ve won. Enjoy it”. Why does TayTay concern herself with these never ending feuds with other celebs? The pettiness is off the charts She is still doing it in 2025. It’s like she is obsessed with conflict. I think she should enjoy the fact that she has ascended to the top of Pop Mountain. She is as famous as Madonna was, maybe even more famous. It’s clearly what you want, Taylor, so enjoy it. Now onto the positives. It’s clear, even to those who are not fans, that Taylor is (or could be) a good songwriter. There are some decent tunes here. The album starts off fairly strong. “Welcome To New York”, “Style” and “Out Of The Woods” are catchy and fun. They show that when she tries, she can indeed entertain. Unfortunately though, a lot of this album is middle of the road guff. The only truly bad song is “Bad Blood”; the rest is fine. Just fine. It’s very safe and risk averse. Taylor Swift is so famous that you cannot realistically expect to avoid her music. She has spawned countless imitators (Sabrina Carpenter is the most notable clone) and I guess there is a reason for that. People see this as passion filled, artistic release and a way to “know” the artist, but it really isn’t. It’s a damning indictment of modern pop that something so “okay” can be so successful and profitable. This kind of thing sells and the Swift team knows how to capitalise on that. To use that same lyric again: it’s so bad, but they do it so well.
Id probably like this much more if i was a 12 yr old
Hard to separate the music from the mega-mega star. I’ve always been kinda agnostic about T-Swizzle, not worth the effort to be a hater, but always found pop music I enjoyed more. But I have to say this is full of bangers, and totally enjoyable front to back. Catchy and fun, I found my head bobbing almost every track. Dinged it a star for the lyrics and rhyming schemes getting a little predictable and cheesy by the end of the record.
First of all: I'm totally unfamiliar with Swift's music. Wrong generation. Her success and especially devoted fanbase surprise me, in the sense that she apparently is very popular among people (mainly women) who usually listen to much more challenging (alternative) music than pop. This could have been a rather good pop album, but the production is truly awful. And I mean: awful. It's way too loud and everything sounds so disgustingly synthetic.... It's supposed to be bass guitar, but it all sounds like coming from a computer. The singing is also obviously f*cked with. This point is clearly illustrated by the bizarre cover version that Ryan Adams made of this entire album. The hits are clearly better in the Swift versions, but Adams' album sounds so much better, so much more musical. Fascinating: this illustrates perfectly that Swift indeed is a talented songwriter. Highlight of the album is beyond doubt 'Style'. That's a great song, and yes, probably the least synthetic sounding.
The first album I've ever heard with Taylor Swift. Better than expected but it also convinces me that her popularity is not through the music. It is ok, there are nice songs in there and I understand that a lot of people love her music. But it is not enough to explain her popularity. She must be a genius in creating some kind of group feeling that glues her fans to her. One can only say "well done" to that!
Here I am. A 44 year old man, taking a big shit at work, and listening to a Taylor Swift album. Where did it go wrong for me? Truth is, I'll never forgive Swift for ruining muh football games!! Listen, I'll try to have an open mind. The music is cool and catchy. I guess there are like 9 producers on this thing. The lyrics aren't for me, and much of it is repetitive. That's ok. There is clearly a market for this with 97 million monthly listeners on Spotify alone. Kudos to her for creating, or bringing in producers to create, music so many people enjoy. Shake It Off is catchy as hell, and that is my favorite on here. I like I Know Places as a deep cut favorite. I'll mark listening to an entire Taylor Swift album off my bucket list now.
I can’t say this album is bad because it’s decidedly not. The beats are infectious, the singing is clean and takes center stage, the production value is sky high and there is a decent amount of variation of moods throughout the album. I’ve heard so many of these songs so many times (my wife was a big fan the year this album came out, went to stadium shows and everything) but they’re still all listenable and fun for the most part. I can’t relate to most of the lyrical content as a middle aged man, but I’m obviously not the target audience. Of the songs I hadn’t heard before, I enjoyed “Clean” the most. You can hear Imogen Heap’s influence in it which is nice as I like a lot her work. The radio singles we’ve all heard a trillion times and they’re solid pop tunes. Taylor Swift also deserves a ton of respect for writing her own music. This particular genre is full of ghostwriters and committees and it’s cool that she wrote nearly all of this on her own. Biggest gripe is the “you could’ve been getting down to this sick beat” line followed by a very normal 8 measure 4/4 drum break. It’s not sick at all!
Thanks to my teenage daughter, I've heard most of these songs many times before. And the ones I haven't, aren't that great (so fair play to my girl for having great taste). "Blank Space" isn't just a brilliant Taylor Swift song, it's a brilliant song full stop. Plus, "Welcome to New York", "Now That We Don't Talk", and "Is It Over Now?" are all songs I enjoy whenever my daughter takes control of the car tunes. The main problem is, there's 21 tracks on this album, which will inevitably mean a few clangers. "Bad Blood" and "Wonderland" are the two that had my finger hovering over the skip button. Overall, Taylor Swift writes excellent pop music for teenage girls (and adults who still believe they're teenager girls). The songs are catchy, some of the lyrics are quite clever, and even though her music follows a fairly generic pop formula - she still feels original. Taylor Swift is doing her own thing, so fair play to her. Most impressive to me is that, unlike many of her contemporaries, she's a proper musician (not just a pretty face regurgitating somebody else's songs). And to top it off, she seems to make the most fragile Conservative fuckwits soil their man diapers, so she's alright in my book. If Taylor Swift is the gateway to my daughter becoming a lifelong music lover, then you can count me amongst her ridiculously massive fan base. 👍👍
Didn't realise I knew so many songs from it, great pop, some big hits here
Has Taylor the output to be featured on this list? I think so. Had Taylor the output to be on this list back in 2014? Not sure. Yes she was a superstar by that time, but musically she was at a transition point which produced lots of radio hits but nothing timeless, and I’m not talking just about this one but also the lesser achievement “Reputation”. Yes this one has good songs, but none really memorable, not at the level of Lover, Anti Hero or Cardigan, hell, not even as catchy as Mean which was released way before. To me, this one is on the list just to show respect to the huge status Taylor has, but not for its musical merits. When listening to this I cannot help but think that she has at least 3 albums better than it, the best of which, are not featured on this list.
Went in with an open mind on this one, as we all know who Taylor Swift is. Her music isn’t for me at all, have heard of the hits through general life. My thoughts are the entire album singing about one thing, there isn’t any variety in the songs whatsoever, I suspect the other albums are like that too. God forbid this wedding doesn’t work out or that bloke will find himself another three albums written about him
I’ve always been a defender of T Swift because she does damn good pop storytelling. Turns out that doesn’t mean she makes great albums. This is the only one I’ve fully listened to, but just a lot of love songs that aren’t as good as her hits. There’s a couple interesting songs, but as an album it’s pretty redundant and makes me glad I’m no longer 25 years old.
If nobody got me I know the drum machine got me
I (naively?) expected way better, and I wanted it to be good. So generic and uninspiring.
Where do I even begin? To be honest, I never really paid much attention to Taylor Swift, so I didn’t have much of an opinion about her in the past. But recently, she’s started embodying everything I can’t stand about superstardom. The grandstanding and arrogance of massive celebrities, who suddenly think they have all the answers to the world’s problems, really turns me off. When public figures like her start making political statements, I just feel like they’re overstepping. It’s like they reach a certain level of fame and suddenly believe they have to tell everyone what to think and do. On that alone, I’d love to give this album a low rating. Now, musically, this album was way too commercial, polished, and glitzy for my liking. But I will say, it was interesting to hear such a strong ’80s synthpop influence, especially compared to her more country-oriented albums. As a 43-year-old man, this feels like music aimed at suburban teenage cheerleaders, but I have to admit, she worked with some top-notch producers who clearly knew what they were doing. While it’s too commercial and manufactured for my taste, that’s exactly what they were going for, and they nailed it. So, while it falls short of the middle ground for me, I still have to give credit where it’s due.
I guess this is good if you like bland 2010s pop, which I do not.
I went into this with an open mind and open heart, but no. It just doesn't seem to be that good. There are some bangers, sure, but much of the album is generic and forgettable. Well, deservedly so, this is my first 2-star rating.
It gets a 2 for being catchy overall, but it's dead behind the eyes, it's soulless. People point to this as her peak but really it's the end of her as a solid pop songwriter and her entry into just being an empty vessel for empty music made solely to do numbers and get to the top of the charts for as long as possible. Awful stuff.
From the constant fawning over her and her music from the media and Swifties, you would think you are in for a musical revolution upon listening. What you get is 48 minutes of generic pop music with lyrics that sound like they came from a middle school diary. Shake if off was pretty good.
Not the biggest TS fan, some catchy tunes, but ultimately not my stuff.
Pop zest. If you told me the entire 21 song album was 1 song I'd believe you
I am not a 14 year old girl, so Swift isn’t my thing. That said, this isn’t the worst album on this list, but it was a struggle to listen to. I think she just writes whatever she wants to say, then pretends it fits the rhyme and meter. I was flabbergasted when I realized she tried to rhyme and fit the one syllable “cut” with the two syllable “problem.” And that’s definitely not the only instance of such lazy songwriting.
Really awful, banal lyrics, very generic backing music, does very annoying things with her voice, her superstardom is absolutely baffling
A forgettable pop album by a forgettable pop artist. When historians look back on her career all they will see is dollar signs.
No that is not a sick beat.
Man I hate this.
Ignoring the fact that Taylor Swift is a terrible person who uses her success to stifle out other female artists, this album is so boring. It's filled with a bunch of undeniable pop hits and I like the synth influence, but I just can't get past how plain Taylor's lyrics and vocals are. Favorite Songs: Shake it Off,
Hell to the no
Can't stand her shit music
So commercial.
Boring, repetitive simplistic
Welcome to New York is truly awful. What a way to open an album. The musical is honestly so vapid. Great H&M, or whatever box store you like, shopping music. Shake it Off is fun tho.
Was determined to stay open minded and pleasant about this one after all pop music is harmless and I am an old fart. I couldn’t even remember whether Taylor Swift made golf clubs or luxury motor yachts. That didn’t last long. This is powdered milk in musical form. Homogeneous Music Product has been generated for you. Guaranteed to contain no deadly viruses or sharp objects at a proven 0% musical nutrient level. What has “my queen” got against interesting progressions, or light and shade and especially bridges. Haters gonna hate my lack of middle eights. How to write a Taylor Swift vocal melody: pick a note then stay on that note and do this rhythm: duh duh duh duh duh duhh duhh. Forever. Her voice sounds like a helium AI impression of Christina Aguilera but without the shouting or raunchiness. The whole thing is so empty and sexless. Apparently the world wants bland and by gum this delivers. Taylor Swift is living proof that entertainment is not about refining the perfect response to public approval. Oh unless you want to be the biggest selling artist of the age in which case well done, the share holders are delighted and nobody had to experience anything.
no. im not listening to it i dont want it on my recently listened to she doesnt need my streams anyway
Fuck this shit
this took me nearly a week to listen to. borderline unlistenable. i've heard that more recent tswift albums may be good, and i'm honestly more open to her older hokey country stuff, but this one just wasn't it.
I don’t want to be curmudgeonly and genuinely go into every album assuming I’ll enjoy it but in the pantheon of pop music I’m really at odds as to how this album made it to the list. For the most part it’s bland oversimplified musicality and woeful woeful lyrics leave me feeling deflated. The singles on this album are bops and there’s one decent Ballard towards the end but all in all I came away from the experiance thinking less of Taylor Swift. Lorde or Miley Cyrus made better pop albums in this era just to name two alternative examples. If I could have a decimal rating it would gain an extra 0.5 for ‘style’ and ‘shake it off’ but otherwise it deserves the 1 rating.
I cannot understand how this utter rubbish ended up in here.
If it wasn't for 1,001 and this cool website I wouldn't listen to albums that are not on my radar such as this. Because of 1,001 I've found some hidden gems so I thank them for that. For example, I would never have listened to Kanye's Dark Twisted Fantasy because I think he's a douche, but I was genuinely surprised at how good that album was. He really is a crazy genius mofo. Unfortunately Taylor Swift isn't in that category it reinforces why I was correct in avoiding it for all those years. Damn you 1,001, this was pure shite
Incredibly derivative, full of Rihanna “ehs”, Lorde beats, Coldplay hooks and annoying girl lyrics.
Music for the I-Phone-y generation. Featuring self-obsessed lyrics that sound like they were written on the back a fag packet by a 14 year old kid during detention, chewing gum vocals married to robotic synthesized music, this is about as tedious as expected. It is catchy pop music mind, so I suppose it's no surprise it's a big selling album. But after several sessions of therapy, I think I'm at peace following the ordeal of listening to it.
Not aimed at me. If I was a 13 year old girl then maybe! My idea of music is something more than squawking along to a computer backing track. Listened to about 6 'tunes' before wasting my life was no longer an option. 1 star
Part of me likes to think that Taylor is writing about the long term prospects for her own career on 'Style', the record's third track. Singing directly to her target market, it is absolutely true that there will always be middle school students that will flock to her concerts and gobble up her records. Just don't make the mistake of thinking that her popularity relates to quality in any way. Repetitive structures, catch-phrase lyrics, and monotonous production decimate what little there is to begin with here. Insipid pop music.
I'm not a Taylor missionary. Oh great another pop crossover genre mashup. Evermore and Folklore are my favorite TS albums. Okay fine this album is a banger and I hate saying that as I jam out in my living room by myself.
My lord and savior Taylor Swift has graced us with her presence and genius with this album. While I may be biased and definitely a fan of her work. I was interested to see what a full listen through of this album would do. Especially since I've listened to it so many times before. This is a no skip album for me. Even when the beats are a little bit more poppy and "girly", the lyrics hit you like a ton of bricks. This is the reason why she was inducted into the Song writer's hall of fame this past month. This album made me feel so many things while I was on my hike. I've heard it said many times that "If you don't like Taylor Swift, it's because you haven't needed her yet". So maybe with my past couple of years and relationships, and really understanding what she and so many others are going through just made this hit so much more. And being someone that's been in the public eye and so many rumors that this album is about Harry Styles, you can really see her yearning for someone that will stay and love her. My favorites are Out of the Woods, Style (That opening guitar rift always makes me ascend.), and honestly shake it off.
I’m probably biased (Eras tour attendee), but this is an almost perfect pop album. Aside from a few corny lines (Shake it Off and Bad Blood being the main offenders of this), this album has held up extremely well overall. Then again, this album came out my freshman year of college so that may be my bias showing. Either way, I enjoyed this back then and I love/appreciate it even more now. Especially bc Taylor’s newer stuff is ass.
Absolutely brilliant album. So many hits, so many good songs that weren't hits. This is TS at her best. Found myself singing Shake it Off all day.
I’m very familiar with Ryan Adam’s cover of this album.. but man, I was not expecting to like Taylor’s version this much. This album SLAPS cover to cover
01) Welcome to New York - 9,5 02) Blank Space - 10,0 03) Style - 10,0 04) Out of the Woods - 9,5 05) All You Had to Do Was Stay - 9,5 06) Shake It Off - 10,0 07) I Wish You Would - 8,5 08) Bad Blood - 10,0 09) Wildest Dreams - 10,0 10) How You Get the Girl - 8,5 11) This Love - 9,0 12) I Know Places - 8,5 13) Clean - 8,5 TOTAL: 9,35 (94/100) Current ranking: 30/936 After all the folk, psychedelic and jazz shit I've endured, this is like a ray of sunshine on my face. I know this doesn't deserve to be so high on my list, but who cares. After all, it is my list, not yours! Haters gonna hate, and I'm just gonna shake, shake, shake...
Synth-pop.
I am not a swiftie, never listened one of her album. But i still got to give her credit for this. Every song is a hit. This is definitely an album that shapes an entire age group.
Good production.
Say what you want about Taylor but this is a perfect pop album. The second half is slept on. This Love has an all-timer bridge.
So many bangers… who knew I was a swifty
A stone cold classic. Taylor is importantly enough to have more than one album. Not all of them. But this certainly fits the bill. And shake it off is one of the greatest singles of all time.
Just the epitome of pop perfection right here. Faultless. Hit after hit. Blank Space in to Style??? I'm sorry just every track in to the next one.. it's just so so GOOD. Taylor has a vision and successfully delivers with this one and it sounds like the album was created so naturally which shows the true talent and artistry; I feel like every single song is just on the same level making it just so consistently fantastic the whole way through. I remember the 1989 era so vividly and this album/era just took over the world in the best way possible. Pop masterpiece that is 1989
I already know I like blank space. Blank space should be a class on arranging. How an arrangement makes or breaks the song. Opening track is great so far. These songs are made by a melody that singable and great arrangements. She sings in a range that almost anyone can achieve. And the songs are catchy. Welcome to New York was great. Blank space is amazing. On track three and I like it already. I think I’m going to love this whole album. I took my daughter to see the Eras tour concert movie in theaters. It’s the best concert movie I’ve ever seen. I think track three might have been in there. But I’m not sure. I love this groove. There is a swing to it. On track 5. So far every track on this is great. I could put this album on regularly. I like shake it off, but it’s probably my least favorite song on this album. This album is five stars. I’ve only got three tracks left and I really love this. On the last track. This album is a masterpiece.
As a 50-something father of teenage girls, I tried mightily to hate this album, but I just can't. It's perfect pop, with lyrics designed to be screamed by said teenagers at the top of their lungs at concerts, overanalysed in bedrooms and used as inspo for Insta posts. Yes, if you listen closely, some of the pseudo-80s production is not that great, and the lyrics don't always hold up to close inspection, but you can't deny the singability and catchiness of the major hits - 'Shake It Off', 'Bad Blood', 'Wildest Dreams', 'Style', hell, even 'Welcome To New York'. If I'm being super critical, the last 3 or 4 songs are not quite up to the same standard as the rest of the album, but by that stage, you have surrendered to Swiftiness, resigned to carrying those tunes in your head for the next few days.
Outstanding! She’s a genius and a very nice person.
It's certainly not something like the Jupiter symphony by Mozart :) But a 5 star pop album indeed. Favorite track: Blank Space other tracks: bad blood, shake it off, style, wildest dreams
Honestly this is the album I think of if asked about Taylor Swift. It's not my favourite (I think that might be Life of a Showgirl) but it is very very good.
I think this is the best pop album of the 2010s, and perhaps even the 21st century total. It is not my favourite Taylor Swift album, Folklore and the stories on that album are amazing, but as a piece of pure pop magic this is it. Putting Taylor Swift and Max Martin together was never going to create anything less than brilliant, two of the absolute best pop writers. The first half of the album is insanely good, like absolute top tier. Tracks 1 and 5 are slightly below the rest, but 2/3/4/6 are flawless. The second half drops away a little but is redeemed by Wildest Dreams which was possibly the first hint of some of the more dream-pop influence Taylor would do later on.
After Slipknot yesterday, I guess a maggot has transformed into a Swiftie. I think this is Taylor's best sound, I quite liked her indie folk records but basically she's best when doing non-countrified pop. Shake It Off and Bad Blood are two of the best pop songs of the last 15 years but most of tracks on here could have been hits, so I'll going five stars
"1989" is the fifth studio album by American singer-songwriter Taylor Swift. Synth-pop is the Wiki-listed genre. The album was named after Swift's birth year and symbolizes her "rebirth" as an artist transitioning from country music to pop. The album was also self-produced with assistance from Max Martin, Shellback, Jack Antonoff, Ryan Tedder, Noel Zacanella, Ali Payami, Nathan Chapman, Imogen Heap and Mattman & Robin. Swift is lead vocalist and plays acoustic guitar. 14 additional musicians, mostly her producers, also contributed. Commercially, it reached #1 in the US and UK, and, critically was praised for its production and songwriting. Electronic handclaps and a deep synth open the album in "Welcome to New York." A high-pitched synth melody. Echoing vocals and a dance beat develops. She's free escaping past relationships. This is high-level pop; it's easy to see her popularity. "Blank Space" slows it down a bit. Dripping synth sounds and layered vocals. She satirizing her media persona as a crazy woman. "Style" begins with a strumming guitar. Deep bass and more electronic drums and layered vocals. The music builds as she describes a toxic relationship. "Out of the Woods" has echoing vocals and reverbing electronic beats. A very, very catching vocal chorus. She's trying to get past her anxiety in a high-profile relationship. An outstanding song and my favorite on the album. Horn synths and a funky edge change the pace in "Shake It Off." Another catchy chorus. This sounds very 1980's synth pop. She's getting past the criticism of everyone. Swift comes out swinging, so to say, in "Bad Blood" as she tells off a former partner. Synth heavy. "Band-Aids don't fix bullet holes." Up-front vocals, electronic beats and heavy synth melodies. Hit after hit with in-your-face pop melodies and songs. It took until song #11, "This Love," for something resembling a ballad. Swift is aggressive and confident. She describes failing relationships and is essentially breaking free of both personal relationships and as an artist. The production on this album is exceptional. This is as good a pop album as I've heard ( I can't believe i just wrote that). Listening to this, her super stardom should come as no surprise. A high recommendation from me.
I have been waiting for this one! Heard the hits from this before, and knew this one would be an easy 5. And I was not let down, even the songs I hadn't heard were mostly incredible. My favorite TSwift song (Love Story) may not be on this album, but 1989 is definitely my favorite era. Almost every song is an easy 5. Welcome To New York had great music and was really catchy, but it was one of the few 4s on this album. Blank Space is just and incredible vibe, the beat, the vocals, the fun chorus, the Starbucks lovers, all work together perfectly. Style was really nice. Out Of The Woods was a bit too repetitive, but it had a great beat, another 4 rating. All You Had To Do Was Stay was really sweet and chill. Shake It Off is a total banger, always have a blast listening to that one. I Wish You Would was nice and chill. Bad Blood is really fun. Wildest Dreams is another incredible vibe, the way she varies her voice through the verses and into the chorus is just delicious. How You Get The Girl is another fun one. This Love was very sweet. I Know Places has wonderful piano work. Clean brings it to a close, that one was ok, the other 4 rating. I could not stop smiling while blasting this album. The vibes and emotions Swift creates are incredible. Love this album so much. Best song: Blank Space
yeah f it this is pretty much a 5 at this point, I keep relistening to it all the time, it's kinda perfect and just so much fun and fresh. they really made magic in that little moment
100% Thank yoy Taylor
Absolutely iconic album. Neither Taylor Swift or the pop genre frequent my typical listening habits, but I can't deny the catchiness and greatness of this album. It has at least 4 tracks that are bangers, and in my opinion it marks the transcendence of the artist past their genre. Style walks all the way into the electronic sub-genre, Outrun. That's wild for an artist whose roots were acoustic guitars and cowgirl boots. Like her or not, Taylor Swift is one of maybe 5 artists worth discussing for biggest icon in music. She didn't exactly build that reputation on nothing and I would consider 1989 to be a cornerstone to the musical foundation she's built her career upon.
I am not a huge Taylor Swift fan, but she does make some great music. I enjoyed this album, and it seemed like most of the tracks were hits that I recognized, or at least were good enough to where I think they could have been. Five stars.
every song is a nostalgic banger used to listen to this album start to finish growing up
My sister would fucking kill me if I gave this anything lower. Luckily this album fucking bangs. I probably enjoy Taylor Swift more than the next guy, but I am very conscious that she's an egregious, sour, greedy human being who's music seems to only get worse and worse as time goes on. Anyways, that's not really the focus of this review. This is honestly probably the most perfect pop album ever made. It's full of ENORMOUS hits that are household names. In fact at least 6 or 7 songs on here are staples that everyone on the planet has heard at least once, which is absolutely insane. There's absolutely zero skips on this. This is as good as it gets for pop honestly and probably the best pop album I've ever heard.
Fun pop
queeeeeeeen
This is my childhood
I mean, this is a pop masterpiece. It falls off (barely) at the end... but such achievements should be recognized and celebrated.
Special guest reviewer today. We know you all love her, so here she is again...my wife! "Youthful, quirky, love gone wrong lyrics, plus magical music make it totally worth the listen." If anyone of you is interested in seeing her dancing to "Shake It Off', for a mere $10 (plus shipping and handling) I can send you a copy of the video. Trust me, you won't regret it!
Listening to they you can see how Taylor Swift became one of the largest popstars of all time.
I am confused. I didn't think I liked T. Swift, but this album is making me question everything. There are the obvious hits but Out of the Woods surprised me - I had never heard it before. This Love is also very sweet. I am giving it 5 stars. Is it the mimosa I'm drinking while listening? Is it that the album just hit at the right moment? I will never know, but here, now, I love it.
This album is perfect and I won't hear any contrarian whining to dispute it.
Nå er jeg rett tilbake til Oda 13 år som var megafan! Beste albumet hennes virkelig! Kun 1 skip
obra da arte capturando um momento social como poucas foram capazes. o mundo mudou porque ela escreveu esse álbum.
Haters gonna hate! Despite two teenage daughters (maybe becuase two teenage daughters?), I'm no Swifty. BUT, I'm also no idiot. This music is good. It's simple and pop, but it's very well written, and she's an icon. This is her biggest album, so it's a no-brainer 5*. Influence 4. Hits 5. Quality 5. Intangibles 5. Not my cup of tea, but I caught my toe tappin' a few times 3.
I’m not a swiftie, too old, too male, but man does she rock. Swift is the master of the effective pop song. The songs all have an incredible catchy hook, powerful crescendos and infectious beats. It seems that the range is basically from intense ballad to dancey diss track and Swift does it all very well. You can’t say that the vocals are somehow virtuosic but they’re very very effective for the songs and music. You have to hear at least one Taylor Swift album before you die and this might be it. You probably need more than one though. Five stars.
There is a reason I can't afford to Tyler Swift concert tickets. Yet she managed to sell out 6 back to back shows to people who could.
Somehow still underrated and under appreciated!
Say what you want to say about it, but the album is full of catchy songs and bangers. I want to find a way not to rank it so high, but it is really good.
5⭐️ first album on here that I know reasonably well, I’ve actually never actively listened to it before but it’s so FUN and poppy which I love! I wouldn’t consider myself a swiftie BUT I do really enjoy this album. songs I already knew: blank space, style, out of the woods, shake it off, bad blood, wildest dreams fave new song(s): all you had to do was stay
but when New Romantics comes on
Top-three Taylor album to me, and I think the one that launched her as a true crossover superstar, shedding any last bits of country exclusivity remaining.
I cannot lie, I've been getting over a breakup kinda recently, and for some reason I sobbed a bunch while listening to this again. I haven't listened to this album in full in years, and as a recovering Taylor Swift fan (2020-2024), it's extremely nostalgic for me lmao... it is NOT the perfect album, most will probably say it's not even good, but there's something about it... she knows how to write a catchy song, and this is her best example of that hypnotizing ear-worminess. Jack Antonoff also put his all into it, and the result is an album that feels so extremely dated that it's almost a period piece of the early 2010s... I almost went song by song to talk about each one but quickly realized you guys do NOT gaf...... all I'll say is Style is sexy as hell, Out of the Woods is a classic, Wildest Dreams is perfect (one of the ones that made me cry), and This Love is a masterpiece (the song that made me sob harder than I have in maybe a year. I don't know why. It's probably more personal than musical)... Clean was my favorite Taylor song for a long time, I love Imogen Heap sooooo much So yeah. Most of it is laughably cringe but that doesn't mean it's not great in its own way. Even the horrible songs are so funny to listen to (oh bad Blood.... oh baby)
It was the beginning of the end. This album was so good she and Jack decided they were untouchable.
This was an all-around great album. Amazing synth sound that really brings out the vocals and bass. And the songs are all incredibly catchy. Easily one of the greatest pop records of the 2010s.
Red is Taylor Swift’s Revolver. 1989 is her Sgt Pepper. 5/5 for a pop masterpiece, from a male Swiftie who (like so many) heard her talent on Folklore and worked back from there. Much more of her catalog should be on this 1001 list, and it’s actually funny that the best they could come up with was this obvious choice and Evermore…
I don’t think I’ve listened to this album all the way through. I did go and listen to Taylor’s version though and not the one linked. I think this may be her best album. It’s filled with the bops and still meaningful stories and lyrics. This is peak Taylor.
9/10 Favorites: Blank Space Style Wildest Dreams
Whatever, I love this album. No skips. It sits in the only era of hers that I like (Red is like that too) where everything before is too country and everything after is too poppy.
Banger after banger after banger. This is a perfect pop album, and a massive guilty pleasure. Contains a bunch of hits and the lesser-known tracks are all great. No bad song. All killer, no filler.
Ok might be biased but i love rhe production, no notes 10 out of 10 but i lwky dont fw sm of the dlx ver tracks so for that it gets a 9.5/10
Anyone who hates this album is hating for reasons other than music. Every song on here is catchy and enjoyable. Lyrics aren’t metaphorically deep but why do the need to be? How are they any different from songs like I Wanna Dance With Somebody by Whitney Houston or Respect by Aretha Franklin? This album belongs on the list for its cultural significance alone. With that said, I really enjoyed it. We let it loop three times while cleaning and didn’t feel the need to switch to a different artist or playlist. It’s just good music.
13 stars
Really good album I love it a lot.
I'm not a Taylor Swift hater, but I do think she's extremely overrated. Her ravenous fans can be insufferable, especially how they make her out to be some lyrical and musical genius. To me, what she is is a marketing genius. Buying back the rights to your songs and redoing them and selling them a second time? Brilliant. But regardless of my personal opinions of the artist, her skill and reach is undeniable. The question then is whether or not 1984 is a worthy entry to a list of albums we all should hear at one point. I've only listened to a few of her albums start to finish, and I'm pretty 'meh' on most of them. But the only album of hers I can say I just straight up think is good is 1984. This is absolutely a pop masterpiece. There is a handful of hits that charted, it starts with a bang and really doesn't let up, there's a nice mix of bops and ballads, and it's just fun. Plus you don't have to like Taylor Swift to acknowledge her cultural significance and massive influence on the music industry. This album fires on all cylinders to prove her title of the pop queen and cements 1984, if not also other albums of hers, as essentials on the list of 1001 albums you must hear. Now I'm fine with this one and would be fine if it were the only inclusion, I'm just saying there's a case for more. Real talk: if you don't believe this album belongs on the list then you don't know ball.
Slay
such a fantastic pop album, style genuinely changed my life and there was truly no one doing it like her during this time. love it or hate it you cannot deny the influence of this album on pop music.
i mean, it's perfect pop that shaped the music landscape forever. whatever you feel about her, this cannot be denied. sorry! that relentless run of singles has only ever been matched by hot fuss.
amazing album. i am not a swiftie by any means but this album is a modern pop classic. the last third is less interesting to me, but i'll revisit this for sure. favorites: tracks 1-4, 6-9
lol Goddamnit. Ok here’s the deal. I’ve heard 1989 a lot- except it’s the Ryan Adams version. I’m not looking forward to listening to the original. **** Alright- here goes. This really is pop music of the highest caliber. It’s just immaculate. 1989 is about as good as pop music gets. At the same time, this is not perfect. But it certainly isn't for lack of production value or intentionality or style. It has those in droves. My issues are mostly with Taylor's victim mentality that permeates everything, her insistence on only writing songs about her close personal relationships, and her inability to be authentic or vulnerable. Now maybe you think those last two contradict each other but - every song where she's singing about someone she knows personally (which is all of them, I think) she is always in the right. The drama is never her fault. She is the anti-Fiona Apple. But there's a run there in the middle of the album - from "Shake It Off" to "Wildest Dreams" that is exceptional. Even with all of the above flaws. In fact they may be the best examples of these flaws on the entire record! But they make incredible pop music. So many albums in this book are fine they just aren't my bag, and I tend to give them three stars. 1989 is not my bag, but it's pretty incredible. I don't know if I can in good conscience give this a four, because it seems better than that; but I don't want to give it a five because it's Taylor Swift and she's annoying as heck. It'll be a game-time decision. FIVE STARS
Easy five for this one even though this was my first time listening all the way through. This album has so many great songs and reminds me of being a teenager. Love her or hate her, Taylor knows how to make an album. Favorite Song(s): Welcome to New York, All You Had to Do Was Stay, Shake It Off, Bad Blood
Taylor Swift is a bit of a guilty pleasure. I love just letting out my inner teen girl and blasting some TSwizzle. Although I tend to prefer the earlier Taylor Swift stuff where she a bit more country and a bit less modern pop. Having said that, this pops off. I didn’t realise just how many songs from this I’d heard but it was over half the album. It’s albums like this where you truly understand why she is the pop powerhouse she is!
Not a Swifty, but I'd rather be a Swifty than one of her haters. Y'alls are weird.
Perfect.
Reading the top reviews is depressing. I hate men. This is one of the best pop albums to release in the last decade (and a bit) and it still mostly sounds timeless. Taylor would never again reach these heights of pop perfection, but at least we have 1989 to come back to. I think Style is her best song.
STAVO ASPETTANDO QUESTO MOMENTO iconico. non ho niente da dire. ogni volta che lo ascolto diventa sempre più bello.
Great
This is one of my favorite Taylor Swift albums. I own it on vinyl. I especially love the songs Out of the Woods, Wildest Dreams, Clean, and I Know Places.
T Swift's flag on the pop moon
This is, in my opinion, the best album from the biggest pop star of our day. I haven't enjoyed her songs as much since this album, but this particular album really captured magic in a bottle for me. Well done Tay Tay!
It might just be nostalgia as a day one fan, but I can’t imagine not giving this a 5.
In general, I dislike Taylor Swift because I think she embodies the worst of consumer-driven music. A thousand versions of one album with slight variations, limited edition merchandise, releases all tailored (ha) to get her fan base ravenous enough to buy the next thing lest they miss out. Her marketing machine works overtime. Everything about her image and music is carefully curated. Credit where credit is due, though. I'm 500ish albums in and very few have this many hits or are good listens in one sitting. Is that because Taylor Swift is actually that good or because of her dedicated media / marketing empire that I already know most of the songs without really trying? Are her hits actually hits because they deserve to be or because her fans decided they should be regardless of what we all think, and the media doesn't want to upset the Swifties? Keeping with my rating scale, this is a 5/5 despite my reservations.
Not a big Taylor swift fan, but this has to be one of the greatest 2000s pop album ever made.
No matter your opinion on her, you have to admit that this is a genuinely great pop album
Amazing how virtually every song is a chart worthy single and how enduring the whole album has been
So many hits
I originally had this as 4 stars, but after listening again, I needed to bump it up. Shockingly, popular artists are popular for a reason.
I’ve listened to Clean too many times to not give this a 5
Mayhaps her best I must confess
I unironically love this album. My introduction to TS came through my small girl-child listening to Red nonstop. I thought I’d be indifferent to the TS charm but I was lured in even then. 1989 is a masterpiece of pop.
I’m unabashedly at a 5. Haters gonna hate, hate, hate and all that. Here’s a quick story: the first time I ever heard “Shake It Off” was at a high school pep rally in 2014. I thought it was a little cheesy, & I didn’t know who was singing it. It was catchy as hell though, and the chorus got stuck in my ear. Once I got home, I googled it. Imagine my surprise to find out it was Taylor Swift, the country artist, and it was THE biggest song in the world at the time. As a 14-year-old boy, I fell victim to the classic “this is popular, so I’m going to hate it” trope, and I… was wrong. I was very, very wrong. Someone wanting to demean the type of women who listen to & enjoy Taylor Swift might write something along the lines of the following: “these are songs made for the Grey’s Anatomy-loving / idealized love & empathy generation of women who grew up with The Notebook as their favorite movie, a pink DS to play Nintendogs on, and who would swear by scrolling through Pinterest & writing down every thought they have in the Notes app as self-therapy.” Of course, tell this to any woman who actually enjoys Taylor Swift and they’d probably take it as a massive compliment. That’s modern-day girlhood for you. I wouldn’t have written something like this in 2014, but as far as my mindset back then goes, I probably was doing some kind of subconscious celebrity-driven misogyny (or just the whole “eww cooties” thing taken to a natural, if really flawed conclusion). I came to the realization that I was wrong in 2021, as a 21-year-old man, when Taylor Swift started to drop her re-recordings of all her albums in light of the ownership situation, giving me an excuse to actually listen to all of these tracks that I thought all of my girl friends (*please* note the space) had been overhyping for years, with a decently fresh mind, a good bit of empathy, and the realization that I was never going to stop the train, so I may as well take a ride on it, just for fun. Of course, I proved myself to be a moron, as one does with this sort of thing. They were all right, to some degree, and I found myself enjoying her stuff far more than I did from just hearing it in passing on nearly every commercial or radio station for years. Granted, I still think “Red” is a *really* mediocre (if not outright bad) album, but hey; I also think “Fearless” & “Speak Now” are *really* good, so it weighs out. When the “1989” re-recording came out in late 2023 (66 days before starting this 1001 Albums project), I gave it a listen, and a weird wave of nostalgia came over me, with every song feeling familiar, but only just now coming into full focus. I had forgotten just how many monster hits were on this thing; you would think “Shake It Off” would obviously be the biggest one, but “Blank Space” has more plays than it on Spotify (2.1 billion), and 4 of the tracks have at least a billion plays. I haven’t heard the album in full since then, but hearing it again now, with 588 albums across several decades & styles inbetween to sharpen & hone my musical tastes… yeah, this one’s still really fucking good too. I listened to the original version this time, since she got her ownership back, and let me tell you; it blows the re-recording out of the water. Good to finally hear this thing as it was intended. Taylor Swift is a good, if not great (albeit really self-indulgent to an annoying point as of late) songwriter, with her biggest strength being able to find one or two cutting lines that can immediately capture the modus operandi of a song through some striking imagery. Whether or not you agree or care about that modus operandi is another thing, but regardless, her lyricism comes out really well on this album, especially so on “Clean”, but every track has a gem of a line somewhere in it. Her production team on this (especially Max Martin, arguably hitting a peak) knock it out of the park with this sort of hybrid mix of an 80s new wave style with the production tricks & heavy synth work of the early 2010s, and while it’s certainly dated to 11 years ago, it’s the sort of soundscape where if you like it, you’ll really like it, and it clicked very nicely for me this time around. Some people would call this album a pop Bible, and while I disagree (it’s “Thriller.” “Thriller” is the pop Bible.), I won’t dissuade people from having that take at all, since this is probably one of the most influential pop albums of the decade. Much like Frank Ocean’s “channel ORANGE”, this album’s success & all the artists it inspired has opened up a Pandora’s Box of sorts. However, I think that Pandora’s Box has finally started to pay off – the new “big 3” of Olivia Rodrigo, Chappell Roan & Sabrina Carpenter (Billie Eilish is in there somewhere, trust me, she’s just not fully “pop music” to my ears) are a direct product of the wave that Taylor Swift started with this album, and they’re all expanding on it in a way that feels like a proper renaissance of radio pop music after it got really stagnant around mid 2019 into early 2021. I’m not saying we should thank Taylor Swift for their success, but I don’t know if we get to this point without this album. I’ve done all this yapping without talking much about the album itself, but it should be obvious that I enjoyed the hell out of it. I’ve come away from this with arguably an even greater appreciation for it, now having a much better sense of the styles she & her team were pulling from throughout this album, and with how well-crafted of an homage it all is. Yes, its commercialism can be used as a knock against it, and you could just as easily call it “corporate, overproduced nonsense that loses the soul of what makes music music”. I wouldn’t hate on anybody for that take, but it’s probably just a cycle that’s been perpetuated for years. I’d bet a dollar someone called “Thriller” overproduced nonsense compared to the heart shown by the Rolling Stones, or “Abbey Road” as such compared to the “true” musicianship of Aretha Franklin, or hell, Beethoven’s 9th Symphony compared to the earliest attempts at orchestral work. Musical tastes are constant & ever evolving, much like mine were between 2014 and 2021, and especially so since I’ve started this whole 1001 Albums project. All of this bullshit rambling preamble aside, I've grown to fucking love this album. If you can allow yourself to let loose and open up your mind for just 49 minutes (or 60 minutes via the deluxe), what emerges is a tightly crafted, well-written, well-composed & well-sung pop album that stands up with (and next to) some of the best of its genre, full of monster hits, which has probably shaped an entire generation, for better or for worse. It is probably the best Taylor Swift album, and it’s her at her pop peak. I know one of her COVID-era albums is on the list, and I’ve never heard that one before, so I’ll be ready when we get that one, but as far as "1989" goes, it’s an easy 5. By the way, did I mention that I'm older now than Taylor Swift was when she recorded this album? Yeah, she did this album when she was 24. I'm cooked.
I was a fan of Taylor Swift's songwriting before this album. 1989 made me a full-on Taylor fan. I have complex feelings and opinions about T-Swizzle, but generally I think she is the among the best songwriters of her generation and I admire her for standing up against corporate greed in the music industry via her fight to reclaim the master recordings to her first six albums. A fight that she ultimately won in such a big way that it has literally changed the way the music industry works. Anyway, this record is full of bangers. Banger after banger after banger. It is an album that gave Taylor the confidence to become the cultural icon she was meant to be, for better or worse.
As to expect from Swift, great songwriting and catchy songs. The so-called “Pop Bible” is a no-skip album to me. Altough it is very mainstream, making good pop music is also a craft to appreciate. The singles “Style”, “Blank Space” and “Shake it Off” are known worldwide, but the album has way more to offer. One of my favourite songs off the album - “Clean”, really showcases her ability of writing relatable but also profound. Even Imogen Heap, who worked alongside Taylor on the track, was surprised at her songwriting skills. Altough Taylor is one of the most famous musicians on earth right now, her talent is overlooked most of the time. I also really like “You Are in Love”, which describes the relationship of her producer and friend, Jack Antonoff and his former girlfriend. With its memorable bridges and phrases, 1989 remains one of the best pop albums off modern history. Really enjoyed revisiting this record.
So many songs I know. At this point I can’t tell if it’s a great album or I’m just losing it
I really like Taylor. Like all artists I don't like every song, however she does have a very unique voice and style. When you hear her music it is not usually a remake of another artist's work; she writes.
Always wondered why people go on about Taylor Swift so much. And now I know 😊
is great pop album 5/5
Best. Album 💗
This album is incredibly catchy all the way through. I'm really enjoying the non-singles much more than the tracks that were singles, but there's a number of songs I can see myself going back to again and again. Best of the singles for me are probably Style and Bad Blood. Having never listened to the album itself it's much better than I had been anticipating. I think this gets a 5 from me. Haha, the Jack Antonoff-produced tracks practically struck me in the face with their Jack Antonoff-ness. But I did like them. Standout non-singles. Out of the Woods and I Wish You Would.
THE GUITAR BUILDUP TO STYLE UGH Probably my 3rd favorite T Swift album. Fun, loud, has a big sound to it that almost feels like NYC in an album
Always love Taylor!
Before you come to me and says "no i won't listen to anything you say, this IS shit", please consider my age and the environment i grow up: i am 16, grew up listening to western popular music and 1989 is, for me, the pop album of all time. there's the perfectly catchy melody and sometimes bit of complex, and very 80s flashback. and everybody here hates 80s synthpop, am i right? (it functions better when you are staying in NYC during the summer with your family members cause when "welcome to new york" hits the only thing you can do is to pray for the school year to end (i think i said before that i'm asian. and actually my finals are still a week away.) so you can take your plane ride and land in JFK ASAP.) (and for ppl who hate Bad Blood: ok so i admit the version featuring Kendrick is indeed better, but literally i had beef and has been backstabbed by one of my moots so the original version never age for me. if you don't like it just pretend you are a 16 years old who get traumatic from a very serious beef which invloves things such as willingful devotion, mistagged misandry, overly politically conscious radfems and a bunch of moot who believed in that moot's lies and helped to spread them that began a year ago and the said 16 years old never recovered from the beef. that's why it speaks for me.) 5/5.
Gotta long list, Starbucks lovers …
This is what a pop record should sound like. Incredibly high standards across the whole album, bona fide sing along bangers, great production.
def taylor’s best album. usually dislike her stuff but i liked/sang along to most of the tunes on this album. “wildest dreams” might be my favorite. lots of good memories associated with the songs on these album. 5/5!
Peak pop Taylor Swift. Don’t overthink it, just enjoy it. On this listen I was impressed at how crisp the production is on Blank Space and Shake It Off. Style’s instrumental almost sounds like a Weeknd track. Out of the Woods and All You Had to Do Was Stay could both easily have been singles. I had forgotten how cringey it is when she says “this. sick. beat.” Bad Blood is also a bit cringey but also undeniably catchy - I actually really like the Kendrick Lamar version also. Wildest Dreams is surely a Lana Del Rey song. I can’t quite get over how every song here is so catchy - you could pretty much make any of the first 10 tracks singles, I’m surprised she didn’t milk this album more tbh. The last 3 tracks don’t add much for me, but there is just so much good pop on this album. It deserves recognition as a great record. Fave Tracks: Welcome to New York, Blank Space, Style, All You Had to Do Was Stay, Shake It Off, Bad Blood, Wildest Dreams, How You Get the Girl 4.6/5
I can’t not rate this a 5. This is just an amazing album. I gave 5 stars to Lorde, and I’ll give another 5 to Swift. What can I say, I like Jack Antonoff
lol
FIRE 🔥🔥
I’m not a Swiftie by any means, but I can respect the insane impact it has had on everything after this.
this is honestly a pretty tough album to rate. i think it’s one of the best pop albums of all time both musically and culturally. but the original release doesn’t have New Romantics on it, only being included on the deluxe. which is absolute insanity. still great though and probably my 3rd favorite taylor album
Definitely not my favourite Taylor Swift album but I can’t NOT give this 5/5. Every song on here is at minimum good with many iconic hits. Top Tracks: This Love, Clean, Wildest Dreams, Blank Space Bonus (deluxe version): You Are In Love
Fire so many bangers
This album slaps. It’s great until the last 2 songs
Literally invented pop
You can’t listen to some of these songs and not feel the need to dance or just feel joy. This isn’t my favourite Taylor swift album but it is up there. Very enjoyable.
The height of 2010s pop. There are so many hits on this album, so many songs which are era defining, artist defining. Yes, the production a bit thick for me. It feels that in the final minutes of "How You Get the Girl" every sample they could find in the synthesiser is being replicated 100-fold. And perhaps this isn't an album which I really really engage with on a deep deep personal level. I think I bond more with her later works (e.g. Evermore) where she really strips it all back. But this is still absolutely phenomenal. Perhaps the best pop album of all time.
It's been described as a modern pop Bible - and it probably is. Almost every song could have been a single; and more than half of them actually were one. I ended up listening to Taylor's Version. Is it cheating? Probably. Do I care? No. What will you do? Fire me? Go ahead.
The second most hit dense pop album ever. She's not my favorite, but her prowess is undeniable.
ONE OF THE BEST ALBUMS EVER ! SLAYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY!
Genius
Hard not to love this one, given how catchy so many of the tracks were more than a decade ago. They're still pretty good and hold up well for me. Taylor has great vocal work and the instrumentals are quite fun! 'How You Get The Girl' was my fave from this set.
This album was deserving of all awards it won!
This is the one Taylor Swift album I know. Times were different in a weird way then as I know the Ryan Adam’s version the most so hearing this was interesting as the songs took on such a different, but layered and satisfying turn that I hadn’t realized before. I could also have been high.
Flawless 21st century pop. The perfect balance of excited high energy and introspective low energy, of earnestness and snark, of wide eyed innocence and winking experience. This is Taylor Swift announcing to the world that she’s coming for the top spot.
I was ready to shit all over this album, as I'm fully Taylor-saturated by now. But as much as I try, I can't dislike almost anything on here. It's poppy and a somewhat guilty pleasure for me, but a real pleasure at that. Peak Taylor right here.
Sometimes, I roll my eyes at Taylor Swift's music because there are certain things about it that annoy me: her muddled metaphors, the cliché turns of phrase, the way she overemphasizes her cheesiest lines. All of these things are on "1989," but her strengths are more honed than ever too: her ability to write hooks that stay in your head for years, her soaring vocals, the way she takes vulnerable feelings and amplifies them into stadium-sized emotions. I can't help but get swept up in it. And the things I roll my eyes at on other albums of hers kind of become charming quirks when the songs are this good. The production takes cues from 80s pop, but gets pumped up with big, Max Martin drums. The music is bubblegum pop one moment, sweeping melodrama the next, and Taylor Swift carries it all with confidence. An irresistible album for me.
1989 is Taylor Swift's fifth studio album, and the work that marked her transition from folk/country to more synth-based pop. The album was incredibly successful, both in its original release, and in the (Taylor's Version) re-release. In 2016, it won the Grammy for Album of the Year and for Best Pop Vocal Album. Swift writes great, uplifting pop songs, and she has become an international superstar because of it.
I gave Led Zeppelin IV 5 stars because recognized most songs as hits, and by that logic TS also deserves a 5
This album will never be anything less than a five to me because of the countless number of times that my daughter and I have belted these tracks out together over the years.
Lovely stuff
Epic
I freaking love this album, it's my 2nd favourite by Taylor. "Welcome to New York" is a great intro, and then? "Blank space", "Style", "Out of the woods", "AYHTDWS", "Shake it off", "I wish you would", "Bad blood" - bangers. "Wildest dreams"? One of the most beautiful pop ballads. "How you get the girl"? Amazing. "This love", "You are in love" and "Clean" are a bit slower, but stole my heart. "I know places" and "Wonderland" are wonderful. "New romantics" is my favourite song from this album. Vault tracks are so beautiful, "Is it over now?" made me fall in love with Taylor. I give it 10/10
Comin in hot with my first review (hi everyone) to say I love this album. It’s by far her best imo (although folklore is up there). Very good nostalgic, emotional boops. No skips, no notes
The pop bangers on this album are all-time incredible—Blank Space, Shake it Off, Bad Blood. Rediscovered All You Had To Do Was Stay. A couple duds there snuck in at the end but not enough to kill the vibe.
Chris’ favorite
Favorite!
One of my fav pop albums
I haven’t listened to but my daughter (of course) would give it 100 stars.
There are definitely a few duds on this tracklist, but there's also multiple best-song-ever-mades on here. I really can't go any lower and still be true to myself.
Love this one. Avery’s favorite album
Great song writing. Great Melodies. Great voice. Lots of musical styles. There is a reason she has lots of followers. Great album.
Merely looking at this album cover gives me a flurry of memories and emotions. This is my favourite Taylor Swift album - it was originally released at such a pivotal time in my life, and I can't understate how much I love this album. Also, the original version is vastly superior to the Taylor's Version, so that's what I listened to (and will continue to listen to). Favourite tracks: Style, New Romantics (yeah, it's a deluxe track, whatever, it should've been on the main album)
I would be denying my true self if I didn’t give this 5 stars: the album that defined pop music in the 2010’s, and massively shaped my listening taste. I remember my dad getting me the deluxe edition from HMV on release day, and being instantly obsessed on first listen. Clean, Style, and Out of the Woods are some of my all time Swift songs. Honestly it’s a shame the TV album fumbles some of the production so hard- I’ll always keep coming back to the OG. 10 out of fuckin 10
didnt include vault tracks bc idk i feellike they werent on the original album wtny still reminds me of that animal pet movie
This album should really end three songs sooner. But I still have to give it five stars.
I've never been a Taylor Swift fan but I have to admit that I enjoyed listening to this.
I mean, it slaps
My favorite era 🫶🏼
This is the album that officially made me a Swiftie. I bought it on CD for Sylvia on a whim as I was leaving town for a work event. I ended up spinning it in the car and was captivated. All the things I love about pop but with a lyricism so lush I continue to find new meanings and rapture with each spin. For folks not in the know she's super clever and playful: Wildest Dreams - that background thump thump is actually her heartbeat that she recorded for this song. Clean - Tay Tay went over to Imogen's house in London to craft a song. They made tea and crafted one of my favorite tracks on the album. Imogen still keeps a copy of the polaroid they took on this day. Taylor included a bunch of polaroids in the album packaging as part of her branding extras. Is it Over Now? - last song from the vault tracks on TV..Taylor often writes songs she views as sisters. Is it Over Now is sisters with Out of the Woods and I Wish You Would Say Don't Go - When Taylor sings "you say nothin' back" and there is a pregnant pause of complete silence, she's creating an empty (blank?!) space that we actually feel the rejection..the..."man, you just don't fucking get me." Blank Space - Jen and Keith asked me if showed 8-year-old Sylvia the video for this song and I said "no" because I thought it was too rough for young Sylvia. By the time I showed Sylvia, he told me already saw it. I regret that statement to Jen & Keith. I Know Places - When Sylvia and I went to the 1989 tour and I saw two girls dressed up as foxes, I realized that his Swifterhood was something smart, special, and fun. (They are the hunters we are the foxes) On this listen, particularly with vault tracks like Suburban Legends, You Are in Love, and New Romantics, she masterfully hints at the lyrical brilliance that will later shine even brighter—leaving us in awe when The Tortured Poets Department inevitably finds its place in future iterations of this list.
My least favourite TS album but obviously still a 5* from me. Annoying that this isn’t Taylor’s version but still an absolute genre-defining classic modern pop album
A classic of course!
The beginning of her ascent to superstardom not seen since Michael Jackson.
I'm basic. This is probably the most enjoyable album suggested so far.
Excellent album. Very much enjoyed
Pop Bible
Hell yeah dude. This is peak pop music and nobody is going to tell me otherwise.
I really want to dislike Taylor Swift on principal, but damn it, I’m a slut for pop music.
Consistently catchy across the album set.
This is a top tier album no doubt. Taylor Swift is a phenomena and this is arguably her single best album, jam packed full of hits. Every song hits a chord, but the album never feels stale or repetitive, showing rather mastery over a wide range of styles. Do I think Taylor is overhyped? Certainly. But this album is her GOAT and Shake it Off is such a bop that it's impossible not to love.
Bro it’s 1989
PERFECTION!
In this home, we only listen to Taylor's Version. Please update the site accordingly
Really enjoyed her take on synthpop-esque music. I bought this one.
Sehr gute songs auf dem Album. Highlights: Welcome to New York, Bad Blood, Blank Space, Wonderland, New Romantics 5/5 Ich HASSE shake it off. 1/5 4 Sterne.
could i write poetry to this? n and yet somehow it is still a 5
A landmark Modern Pop album. I think its her very best.
When Shake it Off came out one of my friends was complaining that it was horrible. I said, "but it's so catchy" to which he replied "like that's what makes music good." Sometimes, yes, that what makes music good.
I listened through three versions of 1989 today: the original 2014 version; the 2023 Taylor's Version; and Ryan Adams' whole-album 1989 cover from 2015. I'm sure Swift will be remembered as the most significant recording artist of the current century, and she almost certainly deserves another slot or two in the 1,001 at next publication. I don't connect with everything she does - her last few albums have been misses for me, and she shouldn't agreed to do Cats - but overall I like her. 1989 is my second favorite Swift album overall (behind Reputation) and kicks off my favorite period of hers. It's an outstanding, catchy pop album. "Shake It Off" is a banger. "Blank Space," "Style," "Out of the Woods," and "Wildest Dreams" all get lodged in my head from time to time. While I like the refreshed sound on Taylor's Version, I think I prefer the album without the bonus "vault" tracks at the end. 1989 by Ryan Adams: This whole-album cover of 1989 was also available; since I already knew 1989, I thought I'd work Adams' version into today's listening so I could hear something new. Glad I did - it's a really interesting reinterpretation of the album that changes up the mood and makes it into something somber and dejected. I especially like his take on "Out of the Woods." I think this will stay the rotation for a bit. Fun "I get that reference" thing: Wikipedia says, "When recording the album, Adams said he found a sound somewhere between Bruce Springsteen's Darkness on the Edge of Town (1978) and the Smiths' Meat Is Murder (1985)." I've been exposed to both those albums in the last 2 months through this site, so that feels like a neat little reward for doing this project. Feels like I am learning!
PLEASE USE TAYLOR'S VERSION
Bops all the way through Everything is just pretty enjoyable
Perfectly penned pop album. I question the emotional intelligence of people who trash Taylor Swift. Pop may not be something you enjoy, but even a glance shows her immense talent. She is the most prolific songwriter of her generation, an outstanding role model, business woman, philanthropist, and storyteller who also writes, produces and directs her own music videos. She is an exceptional human being who quietly does the right thing every chance she gets. She’s also so damn humble, real, dorky and relatable. Long live the Swifties and all they stand for - they are our past, present, and future.
This would be a flawless pop album if not for the two missteps. I'll let you guys argue about what two tracks they are.
So many great songs on this album.
Well it's an absolute tour-de-force. This was the album that really got me into Taylor Swift and although she was big she's now MASSIVE. There some fantastic song writing on this album and absolute bangers. Personally don't think there's any duffs.
Fantastic.
still comes off like the most impersonal of Swift's records and thus a lesser favorite but also peak imperial pop era and probably the most compellingly loveable album ever made...i angry drove to "Bad Blood" today 10/10
One of her best, but also in my top 100 albums ever. This album was everywhere, not just in 2014, but when I was growing up. Proof that she could switch genres easily, as she did again on ‘folklore‘ (although ‘Red’ did precipitate a change to some sort of pop, and ‘folklore’ contained plenty of pop aspects). 10/10
Taylor Swift's best pure pop album. This is just packed to the brim with bangers. Max Martin/Shellback production on most of the tracks provide that larger than life sound.
A bit of talk-singing. Otherwise great.
I interrupted my Tech N9ne listening to listen to this album. I’m not bothered, it’s at least one star because Taylor’s looks get her somewhere in my books. I won’t lie, I’m a bit of a swifty even though I’m male, straight and a Republican. Ok, let’s see what we’ve got here: Well, Talent is hard to deny. This was a very pleasing album with almost every song worth being listened to again. There’s no reason not to consider it a 5 star album. For the genre it fits in and the people it’s geared towards, what’s to hate. Lyrically it’s written with thought and skill. The music fits with the words. Catchy choruses. Act like a girl who has had their heart broken when listening to it and see how you feel Choice cut: Style
I was honestly so excited to see this one pop up today because it's my favourite era!! Or as I like to call it - Taylor in her ❄️ era This is where she peaked for me, and was the last album I properly listened to. I was about 18 when this came out - which was probably her target audience. I get it's not for everyone! If cheesy pop bangers are your thing you will love this one. What a track list! A lot of big hits on this album! 2 of my all time fave Taylor songs are on this album - Style and Wildest Dreams Relistening to this album filled me with nostalgia and took me right back to 2014 Fast forward to 2024 and I still listen to these songs - majority of this album very very often. 2 months ago me and my sister went to the eras tour with these songs being the best part of the evening! Putting my personal feelings about Taylor aside - this album is so so good I can't deny it. I see a lot of negative reviews here purely because of her and not the music. I will forever sing along to these songs as loud as I can and it truly deserves full marks 5 ⭐️
Well..it’s Taylor. What else can I say? 🫶🏽
Un clásico la versión "robada", y su mejor álbum
😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍
Love it. Even though …..
One of my favorite albums. Definitely the best Taylor swift album
Listened to Taylor’s Version
I love this album 💜🩵💙
A classic and a great full embrace of pop by Taylor.
This. Is. Pop. Majestic, beautiful crafted and like candy to my ears. Love it. Fun police one star-ers. Get over yourself.
I’ve got a blank space baby and I’ll give you a fiver. Pop music just doesn’t get much better than this. Blank Space. Banger. Style Banger. Shake It Off. Banger. Bad Blood. Banger. Wildest Dreams. Banger. Simpsons: Yes
Taylor Swift is awesome.
Banger after banger after banger. Even listened to the deluxe version of the album
🎉🎉 In this house we listen to Taylor’s Version, but we’ll make an exception for 1001 Albums. This is one of those albums that’s 1) full of bangers 2) lyrically awesome and 3) reminiscent of a very specific and important time in my life. Love it, top to bottom.
This was the album that made me a Taylor Swift fan. The album prior, Red had some songs that captured my attention but this album really hit me when it was released, and still does for that matter. It’s a perfect pop record. The 80’s nostalgia is all over this record, mainly in the synths, but also in the melody choices and even the lyrical style. These are songs about young love and a world full of possibilities. At the time of its release my wife and I just had our first child and while we were in a different phase of our life than Taylor, these themes still ran parallel to the feelings I was experiencing as a new dad. Flash forward to a few months back when we were watching The Eras Tour on Disney as a family movie night, seeing my kids sing along to those same songs with such excitement was just a full circle moment emotionally. Another parallel. My wife and I’s “first date” back in 2009 was a 3 day trip to New York in which we handed out cds promoting the band I was in at the time preparing for upcoming shows in NYC. We connected with a lot of people, saw a Friendly Fires concert, went to a Jimmy Fallon taping and went out one night with a DJ who took us to many underground bars and we had an insane time. The point being that was a huge life moment for me, new love, a city with infinite possibilities, these are the nostalgic emotions and memories that washed over me as I first listened to 1989, especially the opening track Welcome To New York. I guess maybe I was also primed with the emotions of being a new dad. Taylor enlisted some greats from the world of production on here, I was pretty excited for Jack Antonoff’s contribution since I was a fan of his work already. This album started Taylor and Jack’s ongoing working relationship, my second favorite album from her, Folklore features this team up with the addition of The National’s Aaron Dessner, I’d recommend a focused listen on that one if you like this one at all. This is an easy 5 for me.
Great album
All killer no filler
Modern-day pop classic
T-Swift’s best album, IMO. The album that made me a fan.
It’s testament to great songwriting, that great songs transcend genres. So credit to plucky Taylor Swift for re-interpreting Ryan Adams’ alt-country classic ‘1989’ and presenting his songs as synth pop masterpieces. 5/5
- all you had to do was stay - clean
Such a great album - varied enough to stay interesting despite being on the longer side, and loads of hits mixed throughout
This album is pure joy by the best in the business. Obviously I listened to Taylor's Version and hope others do as well. The hits are known enough that I don't feel inclined to comment, but seriously do not miss Out of the Woods and I Wish You Would for a lesser played gems.
Sorry, not sorry but I love Taylor. It took this album to convert me back in 2014. I couldn’t stand her and refused to believe the hype but then she dropped Blank Space and fuck me, that song hooked me like nothing else. Love her or hate her, this is a top pop album. It’s one of my most listened to albums of all time and one of her best in my opinion!
There is no bad blood with this album. it has style. So shake off that negativity and I wish you would take that blank space and fill in 5 stars!
Very nostalgic. Loved this album when it came out. Although every song on this album now drives me nuts because I’ve heard it for what it feels like everyday for the past 10 years, I need to be fair. When this came out, I loved it, WE ALL LOVED IT.
solid pop offering
Read the reviews - funny, it's either all 5* or 1*. I'm a 5*er. One of the greatest pop albums ever produced (and with an extra *, if you listened - like I did - to "Taylor's Version")
Very good.
Come on, you don't have to be all negative and spiteful just because TS is wildly successful. As a record, this is a brilliant production full of excellent tracks. To say otherwise is just daft.
Great album.
Lots of catchy, well-known songs. I am no Swiftie but the woman can write ear worms!
Childhood bias but it’s lit
Hit after hit, not sure how well the album goes together but every song is a banger can't argue 9/14 downloaded 5*s
I’m going to be reckless and give this a 5. I am unashamedly a fan of good pop music. And I even like her lyrics. I’ve listened to this at least 5 times since it popped up so that says something
Brilliantly crafted pop music with heart and depth, Taylor Swift is head and shoulders above her peers and this album took her stratospheric. About as good as mainstream music gets.
A glorious album by the other queen of pop. Enjoyable all the way through, and with enough variation to keep it interesting
The quintessential pop album of the 2010s. Swift has crafted a pure, nostalgia tinged mood with this record that perfectly captures the zeitgeist of the decade. There are no filler tracks on the album, all great hits that can be listened to again again. Definitely my favorite Taylor Swift album
Listen. Taylor’s my favorite artist & as much as I wanna just blast 1989 (TV) I can’t bring myself to take TTPD off repeat.
Avoided a moral dilemma with this by listening to the original version on vinyl. My wife is way more of a Swiftie than I am, but this is a damn good album.
Good album. I can see what the buzz is all about. No skips.
Ret vildt hvor mange pop perler som er på det her album. Kan godt forstå hypen omkring hende idag. Det er virkelig godt. Bedste pop album jeg har hørt indtil nu.
Best Tswift album
Taylor Swift’s star is very well deserved. This was a great album for the setting at which I listened to it. She’s going for something, and she just doesn’t nail it, she writes the book on it.
Enjoyed it. She is a good song writer!
This was always going to be an interesting review for myself. I am a fan of Taylor Swift but I wouldn't consider this one of my favorites of hers. I also listened to Taylor's Version but did not take the vault songs into consideration. I think this album will ultimately be remembered as an influential pop album and one of the definitive albums of the 2010's. Prior to this album Swift was mostly known as a country artist who would sing about her ex lovers. This album definitely featured songs about ex lovers but was a drastic shift in her music to pop. And it really works for most of the album. "Welcome To New York" is an absolute Banger and great way to start the album. The first 10 songs are all incredibly strong songs. The back end of the album doesn't reach the heights of the first half but ends strongly with New Romantics. Some of these songs were definitely over played on the radio when they first were released but that doesn't mean they aren't still good songs. I already know I will come back to this album and will continue listening to Swift. My last thing, we got this album the same day she released The Tortured Poets Department and I'm not sure if that was a coincidence or not. The vault also has some slappers like "Now That We Don't Talk" and "Is It Over Now."
I don't get Swift haters. The songs on this album are impeccably produced, catchy as fuck, and on top of that Taylor is hot. This album is a banger and a hell of a lot better than some of the classic rock shit on this list.
Больше всего мне понравились эти песни: "Welome to the New York", "Blank Space", "How You Get the Girl", "Style", "Wildest Dreams". Кстати, сегодня, вместо "Охоты", под музыку я пил "Эссу". Мне показалось, что она идеально подходит под пение Тейлор Свифт)
