Reviews (page 13 of 14)

Not doing much, just had a worse version of Proud Mary.

Kudos to CCR for being prolific enough to put out three albums in 1969, but maybe this one doesn't belong on the list? The iconic "Proud Mary" notwithstanding, there are two overlong slogs here ("Graveyard Train," "Keep on Chooglin'") and an inessential cover of "Good Golly Miss Molly." I'll take "Born on the Bayou" and "Proud Mary" and skip the rest. (And arguably Ike & Tina own "Proud Mary.")

Are we as a society ready to have an honest discussion regarding whether CCR was the Nickelback of the late 1960s?

The title track and Proud Mary are great. The rest is disappointing. John's vocals and riffs are legit but the rest of this band is not good. Want proof? Compare these recordings to what Jimmy Page's little ensemble was doing with the same marriage of psychedelia and blues IN THE SAME YEAR. I'm 428 albums in and I've heard SCORES of albums by boomer white kids playing at the blues and exactly ONE album by a blues master (and that a late 60s decidedly-pop live album from B.B.King.) Why should people hear and remember all of these imitators rather than the legends themselves? Even putting aside the Olympians (Robert Johnson, Blind Lemon Jefferson, Bukka White, Sonny Boy Williamson, et al.) who pre-dated the "album" concept, where are Creedence's (rough) contemporaries - Junior Wells, J.B. Hutto, Howlin' Wolf, John Lee Hooker?? Their music puts all of this Woodstock blues to shame. And I'm sure I've never heard of scores of should-be-legends because they consistently get left off of lists like this one. One star for each of the two songs worth hearing.

1,5/5 enjoyed proud mary

Not for me

The best thing about this album is how short it was.

sweaty ass

2 sterne

monótono

Almost all filler, no killer.

While there are some good moment, most pieces feel repetitive and dragged-out for no clear reason. Might have been revolutionary back in the day, however did not find it enjoyable. Won’t listen again.

Disliked the vocals

Haven't heard this album before. I felt like it had potential to be interesting but I just didn't care about any of the songs at all 2/5

The album has a promising start with swamp bluesy title song that has great guitar riff. After that it just isn't quite as good.

First song = second song = third song…. I quited on six because heard it all.

not my thing idk too milktoast

CCR just isn't my thing. I already knew most of the popular songs, and honestly I've always preferred the covers. This album, to me, is really just a long song.

Starting this to say in my defense I love Cosmo's Factory but I don't think this album is very good. You have two hits and then the rest is really not distinguishable. It felt like one continuous but ultimately disappointing jam. Couldn't see myself listening to this again.

What an opening! 5 stars for Born on the Bayou! Unfortunately the album takes a steep dive in quality after that. Graveyard Train is awful and I’ve never been much of a fan of Proud Mary. Chooglin is a funny word but that’s about it.

45/1001. Not all bands went to full psychdelic frenzy in the late 60's. Too bad. This was better than I thought, but as we say in Finnish "pessimisti ei pety".

Had decent expectations for this and totally disappointed. Boring white dude blues rock from a guy out in California pretending to be from Louisiana. Does this really need to be on here? Soft 2

ROCK extremamente sem sal

This one almost put me to sleep on the 12 hour ride. Less interesting but some true classics on here. Wish there was a 2.5 button on here. But since I round down…

Thought it would be better. The popular songs are good but the rest is not my taste

I’d never heard this album before. The highlight was “Proud Mary” but nothing else stood out to me especially. I especially like the guitars and drums on this album but probably wouldn’t relisten to it often.

Harmillisesti ei itselle jäänyt tästä oikein mitään mieleen. Passelia taustamusiikkia ja vähän kuluneita ralleja pari.

it's called bayou country because it dunks you into one. please bring me back to land. (the blues guitar is servicable, but not particularly impressive in the modern day. and especially as a non-american, music with a strong country influence is more of a miss than a hit; the country-adjacent music i like, i enjoy in spite of the country elements in their work.)

CCR is just not my jam. The few okay songs on the album dont outweigh the majority of meh songs.

Pretty boring classic rock

I like the guys voice, not my favorite listen. Upbeat, but I guess I just didn’t care that much. There were a few decent songs. Mostly just meh.

It was fine

Off the cuff remark: standard country rock. Left me a little cold. Stand-out track: Proud Mary, by quite some way. Revisit? Unlikely

Not bad, sounds quite good for the time. Not too catchy though

Soooo overplayed

Once Graveyard Train finishes I’ll finish my review…………………….………………….. ………………….………………… ………………….………………… ………………….………………… ………………….………………… ………………….………………… ………………….………………… Oooo harmonica ………………….………………… ………………….………………… ………………….………………… ………………….………………… ………………….………………… ………………….………………… ………………….………………… Hmmm I think the version I am listening too is mislabeled, there seems to be a second Graveyard Train at the end…… is this the end…… do I hate blues?

these fundamental 60's albums to me are just getting so stale. like sure they are very important for developing music as we know it, i'm just... bored.

6/10 Highlights: Born On The Bayou Proud Mary

Keep On Chooglin'? 6/10 Highlights Proud Mary

Country rock

2+ Stars (6/15)

Did not enjoy this too much. Can only give it 2 stars

Not my cup of tea, songs are very similar

Boring blues rock. Not a fan of John Fogerty's voice.

not my style

cool album art. old music.

idk what it is but i just have such a low tolerance for this kind of music. Made me want to listen to Faces

Dad rock, but my dad isn't American so it's just some other dad's rock.

Boring bluesy rock tbh

Pretty simple blues rock. Proud Mary and Born on the Bayou were good but I didn't like any of the rest of the tracks. Graveyard Train and Keep on Chooglin' in particular rubbed me the wrong way, with each one being 8 straight minutes of the same simple melody. I don't think I can give more than 2 stars to a 33 minute album when I spent 16 of those minutes eyeing the skip button.

Almost put me to sleep

ganz okay.

Really an ok southern rock album. Kind of boring to listen to - despite it's short length I was finding it hard to be interested in listening to it. 2.4/5 -> 2/5

I honestly thought I was crazy reading the reviews for this album. Creedence Clearwater Revival's second studio record, "Bayou Country" seems to be beloved by a lot of people, but after listening to this album I just can't seem to grasp the appeal. Tracks like Graveyard Train feel incredibly sluggish and overall the project just lacks that special feeling that keeps me coming back to other forms of music. "Good Golly Miss Molly" was among the few moments that I actually did enjoy the music quite a lot as I could appreciate how the drive of the song and the awesome lead guitar work. I also appreciated "Proud Mary" for it's melodic take on the style this album takes on. Overall, it's not terrible, but I do not get the appeal for these guys, although part of that may just be because I can't appreciate the release of this album during it's era or the genres it defined. Favorite Tracks: Proud Mary, Good Golly Miss Molly

boring country

Yawn. I know, I know,,,, historic, but still dull and overplayed. Can't believe bands were allowed to sell an album that ran only 34 minutes! What a gyp!

A soothing ride, still holds up 56 years later

[5/10] Blues isn’t for me I simply crave more notes than the genre affords. All timer album cover though like how does this album require that much velocity

I never really got into CCR, but maybe that is just because I don't like this kind of stereotypical rock from the 70s. It's all the same. I didn't really enjoy this.

not bad- but to me, nothing particularly special? I liked the swampy rock sounds and it was a pleasant listen but not much more than that 2.5ish, 5/10

The voice being the star-subtractor here

A little too bluesy for me. Born on the Bayou was very nostalgic. I remember hearing it a lot as a kid.

Fogherty's voice is what makes the band stand out. However, to me, they are better as a greatest hits band than a full album band as they have so many great tracks over their discography but deeper cuts never resonate. I did like Bootleg and Graveyard Train but otherwise just some 60's blues rock to me.

Maybe I'm just not in the right mood for this today. It was a little too much "down in the bayou" for me. When the album went back to the start, I immediately was like No, one run through was enough. I like Cosmo's Factory better.

Fine background music for a summer BBQ at your in-law's house and not much else

Preposition preposition rural noun.

every song sounds the same as all other CCR songs except "Good Golly Miss Molly" which sounds the same as the original

Kinda mid, didnt awaken anything in me. Just like very classic rock.

Proud Mary is okay. There are CCR songs I really like but this album just…. isn’t.

1) home on the bayou - easy listening, dad rock 💀💀2/5 for me easily forgettable song 2) bootleg - again not really my favourite, got a little bored of it 2/5 3) graveyard train - bro idk if this needed to be 8 minutes long, I love blues music but it’s way too long for my zoomer aaa brain, pop off harmoncia tho 3/5 4) good golly miss molly - plz i would rather listen to the little Richard version 1/5 5) Penthouse pauper - refreshing song on the album, big love for this one 4/5 6) proud Mary- prefer Tina’s version sorry 2/5 6) keep on chooglin - I really like his voice but I just find the whole album kinda boring ??? 2/5

CCR never did it for me beyond the hits. Same here. Proud Mary is a classic. Born on the Bayou, I'll listen to again. The rest, I could lose. Blues, even blues rock, isn't for me.

Love me some CCR but this record is kind of a slog. Still, some great songs on here but not my favorite by any means.

A quick look through my previous reviews will reveal two things: 1) I despise country music. 2) I'm not really too fond of pure blues, either. What happens when we combine the two? Well... Creedence Clearwater Revival's 'Bayou Country' is what happens. An album that isn't totally awful, but an album that failed to keep me interested in the slightest. The only solace I had with this entry was that it was fairly short at 7 tracks; and that ‘Proud Mary’ is a decent song. I’m familiar with this band’s bigger hits, and even those hits aren’t exactly high on my list. However, ‘Bayou Country’ is fairly listenable, despite the merging of two genres I’m not a fan of. The musicianship is efficient, vocals are fine and energetic, and the tracklist flows nicely enough. But overall, it feels like a fun jam session rather than a conscious project. Sort of how Paul McCartney’s band ‘Wings’ debut album ‘Wild Life’ is an unfocused effort that sounds like a band figuring things out instead of releasing a coherent “finished” product. Nothing much really stood out as a listener. It’s fine. It’s inoffensive. But even in the realm of blues flavoured rock, surely there were better choices for the 1001 albums list than this? Hell, I’m willing to bet there are better Creedence Clearwater Revival albums that hopefully made the cut. 2/5

A few good songs, pretty decent album.

I really liked CCR in the 60/70s. Great tunes, usually with much more drive, more bite, more excitement than so much of the bland stuff that was around. Wasn't familiar with their albums - couldn't afford albums then. So familiar with a few tracks only. But what a disappointment. They attack each track like a dog savaging a slipper. The vocals are too intense. The guitar a sharp stabbing pain. And it's so short. 34 minutes! Only 7 tracks! Keep on Chooglin and Draveyard Train are for tooo long. They say what they want to say, then say it again, and again, and again, and again. Any how could anyone think the world need another cover of Good Golly Miss Molly? Proud Mary is a classic (I did know this was the original, and still the best).

kinda boring

Was initially excited to listen to a bit of CCR. But ultimately Proud Mary did it for me, not much else nowadays.

Expected to enjoy that more but something felt ‘off’ about the sound or rhythm that didn’t chime well with me.

Spell no Creedence, a!!!

Born on the Bayou Proud Mary

I absolutely detest CCR, although that honestly isn't for any particular reason other than the fact that I simply don't like their music. I love a lot of similar bands, but they never really do it for me, not with this album either...

Not for me... Too samey

i knew a girl online when i was a kid who had a big crush on john fogerty. it was on tumblr. anyway this album was ok.

In a nutshell: "bored on the bayou" Overall: 3/10

Boring

Rollin on the river. Keep on choo-glang

Consists of inconsistancy. Very good songs are accomanied by ones below average.

Liked Songs Born On The Bayou Proud Mary

Eh, not really my vibe atm. Obviously technically impressive, but it has a gentle sleepiness to it that just isn't what I'm looking for? I'm sure I'll feel differently at different points in my life

i liked proud mary and good golly miss molly (but the original is better)

Proud Mary.

So far, this album is incredibly boring to me. It is fine to listen to, nothing really stands out as being offensively bad or anything. But that almost makes it worse somehow. The first mildly interesting song was Graveyard Train due to the lyrics and the sick harmonica solo. Good Golly Miss Molly was pretty fun, and dancey. Nice guitar solo. Proud Mary was familiar and fine. Overall, a pretty lackluster album to me. Nothing stood out much at all.

2.5 to 2.75

honky tonky classic rock, not much to say about it really.

Not my jam

Boring swamp Rock.

Not a fan of the slower tempo songs, the faster ones are more to my liking. Not a major fan of the vocal style but I like the guitar. I know of this group but didn't know the songs from this album.

i am not vibing with this one 💔 i skipped thr first song halfway through. yeeyee country rock that is just too low energy and generic sounding. it sounds so hillbilly and bland graveyard train was so long and so boring. sending me to a graveyard for real. good golly miss molly is finally some energy but its still too lowkey. everything feels like the energy was turned down 50 degrees and like theyre half asleep and forced to perform proud mary is good but the energy continues to stay too low. the vocal are more energetic but contrast the gentler, softer sounding instrumental in a conflicting way chooglin is extremely boring

I like CCR but I don’t really like any songs on this album. Except maybe proud Mary

First listen Saved 2/7 Top track: Born on the Bayou

no care in the world

Brevity is the strength of the record, but also a document of the slightness of the overall effect. It's not especially challenging or interesting, though perfectly competent and certifiably gritty. That said, it's also contrived (the whole fake-South thing) and reads to a degree like a museum piece. Reminds of Petty, also, in that it's so very right down the middle to get boring after a time. A cover of "Good Golly Miss Molly" is a cop-out – totally unimaginative, even allowing for their desire to put out a record every 15 minutes. Suffice it to say, such choices matter to longevity, which begs the question of why three CCR discs in this esteemed list. A single record, at most. The "great live" reputation makes sense, but one suspects that rep was built on a pretty non-discriminating crowd. One would say they are taste-poor man's version of the Band, but even that flatters Fogerty & Co. It should not be necessary to say that the Byrds and Dylan were an order of magnitude more original and important and that any poll in which CCR outranks the Beatles is primarily a testament to shockingly dodgy popular tastes.

Not great,… the singers voice grates on me a lot. What does “Proud Mary keep on boinging” even mean?

I'm really struggling with boomer shit lately.

probably should be higher but here we are. 2.50-75 maybe. could i write poetry to this? n

Short, repetitive.

Surprisingly, did not enjoy this album. I love Creedence, but this one just didn't hit me right

This album is 33 mins. But some of these songs seem like a half-hour on their own. I'm looking at you 3, 6 and 7) Not CCR's best album of 1969. But it's there.

I had a rough night and I hate the fucking Eagles, man.

Not fundamentally bad music, just not my thing.

Bog standard country Rock. Pretty boring to listen to - all 4 beats to the bar and no surprises or syncopation.

muy sureño para mi

It was alright

I felt like i was trapped in an elevator. And i liked it.

It was ok considering they seem to have had Sean Dyche as lead vocalist. I preferred the more bluesy tracks than the straight up rock and roll ones like ‘Good Golly Miss Molly’, but only a low 2 stars for me.

I think it's the fault of this wicked game, but I can't really evaluate new music anymore. I need a break. And this poor album was the one for this day, so sorry about that.

Creedence is another band that I just know the Greatest hits from, so when I've got to look back at a single album at a time it's hard to really place it in context of their career. Apparently CCR was only around for about 4 years so that is crazy. What a force to have had that many hits in a short time. After listening to the album it did take some of that wonderment away because the non-hits were pretty forgettable. I also have a limited tolerance for Fogerty as the songs over 3 minutes get real close to having me hit the skip button, with the title track here being an exception, maybe because it's the first one. Favorite track "Born on the Bayou" 2/5

CCR too one-dimensional for me.

can appreciate it not for me

doesnt really stand out to me at all and i feel like i was just being shouted at the whole time

Thought i would get more into it. Maybe i wasn't in the mood.

They tried their best

Take me out coach

"Proud Mary" is fun. The rest of the album is not. I did not enjoy this one.

Proud Mary keep on boinin is one thing, but thirty people toined to stone is too far. There wasn’t much especially disagreeable but I’d never reach for it and you gotta be replayable if you want 3 stars from me

Some interesting guitar and harmonica

Soft rock.

Not their best.

Fine. Not at all the best collection of CCR songs

Didn"t like very much It was ok

I thought I would enjoy this more than I did. I guess my whole life I never listened to more than two CCR songs in a row, which it turns out is as many CCR songs I can enjoy in a row.

‘Have you ever seen the rain’ is my favourite song of all time so I was quite excited when this was recommended. I didn’t really love the sound though. I could appreciate that they are great at what they do but that type of rock just isn’t my thing. Still glad I listened!

Starts off strong and immediately drops off a cliff. Can tell which songs the band likes to play and which were written for the audience. I've heard better versions of Proud Mary *cringe*. Overall inoffensive but I'm not going back to it.

If I was a stoner, having rolled my first joint of the day after working for the man behind a desk I’d be more then down to get high and walk home listening to this. I’m not a stoner, I can’t roll joints and I didn’t walk home, I don’t work for the man. Mixed album really.

I really didn't love it. I just don't like his voice.

Day 1/1001 Has a more country/folk sound to it than rock, not sure why it gets classified predominantly into the latter. Certainly not my preferred genre, but around/slightly above average when compared to other similar projects I've heard. IMO the best songs here are where they really lean into more of a rock sound (it blends in well with the country streak heard throughout), but some parts (especially the 2nd quarter) are too homogenous/indulgent in that country sound for me to enjoy it.

Pretty boring album. Simple, predictable 1,4,5 blues chord progressions. The vocals are about as bland and predictable as one could expect. Nothing is notable about this album.

"Born On The Bayou" and "Graveyard Train" were my favourites. Not a very memorable album overall. 3/10.

Not really my thing, I guess I'd have to be in the mood for those long wah wah guitar solos

70er Sumpfrock, guter Guitarrist (en) aber nerviger Sänger. Fand 1- 2 Songs ganz lustig

Back to the sixties. A couple of classics a couple of covers a couple of fillers. Bang album done.

Stop screaming, it's all going to be okay!

Next 5 songs played by my Spotify Algorithm: Tom Petty and Heartbreakers - Breakdown Allman Brothers Band - Midnight Rider Van Morrison - Brown Eyed Girl Tom Petty - You Wreck Me Three Dog Night - Mama Told Me (Not to Come)

It was ok

Mediocre mostly, apart from a good vocal performance nothing interesting.

I like some CCR hits, but this album doesn't make much of an impression.

On first listen I really didn't like this. I ended up listening to this three times to give it a chance. In general, I have never liked Proud Mary. I found this album boring, especially the long, rambling tracks Graveyard Train (reading the lyrics for that one helped) and the ridiculous Keep On Chooglin'. I upgraded from an original 1 to a 2 rating as I don't hate it but no thank you, I do not want to Keep On Chooglin'. Please stop Chooglin'. Fave Track: Didn't like any, Penthouse Pauper appealed the most musically. Rating: 2 (below Blunderbuss though)

kinda boring

Heard it before?: Yes Enjoy it?: Yeah Favourite song: Track 6 - Proud Mary

Seems like more of a historic pick. CCR has lots of songs I really like but none of them are on this album. Graveyard train would’ve been a jam for me but it really over stays it’s welcome imo. Expected more for this list.

Meh, this was bang average. Couple of my colleagues were loving it but they’re wankers so it doesn’t count.

2/3* I struggle with the older style but liked some of the backing music

Not bad, but sounds like a jam session by some (albeit, talented) guys in a pub. Few obvious stand outs from clearly a great singles band.

I was bored.

CCR, jam band music that you've heard a million times but now with more jam! So bored listening to this album. Not for me.

Not my favorite CCR album. A couple pf classics but sort of wish it was combined with CCR.

Sounds like one of those bands you see at 3pm at a local music festival when you've had one too many beers.

It's OK. more misses than hits but the hits are pretty good.

bunch a honkeys

I like CCR but this was pretty meh, only proud Mary really stood out and even that wasn't as good as the Tina Turner version

Not a big fan of this, but at least it wasn't super long, and I didn't actively dislike any of the songs.

its pretty good

Think I’ve been a bit harsh on CCR in the past; they’ve got their share of tunes and I’d like to upgrade their status accordingly from ‘meh’ to ‘good singles band’. But as an albums band? I’m still not sure. Take away Proud Mary and maybe Born on the Bayou and what are you left with, really? Too much chooglin’, that’s what. John Fogerty’s voice carries the weaker tracks, but only so far: 2.5 stars.

I'm not a middle-aged American father of five, so I sadly can't say that I enjoyed this. Somebody PLEASE get John Fogerty some cough drops.

Couldn't really get behind this dad rock.

THIS ALBUMS BORING.ITS SO GODAMN BORING.HOW IS ONE OF THE SONGS 8 MINUTES LONG WITH BORING DRY GUITAR LICKS GOING ON EVERY 15 SECONDS WHILE IT CHUGS ALING AT LIKE 80 BPM HOW DID ANYONE THINK THAT WAS A GOOD IDEA.EVEN PROUD MARY SUCKS.HOW DO YOU MAKE PROUD MARY BORING.ALMOST EVERY SONG LACKS ANY MOMENTUM OR ENERGY ITS JUST ALL BORING MID-TEMPO ROCK.ITS 1969 SHOUDLNT THEY BE DOING INTERESTING CREATIVE THINGS WHILE ON ACID?!?

Reconheci uma música, e continuo achando apenas agradável.

Uhm yeah was alright bit better than other 2 stars but nog quite 3

I like some of CCR's songs, but apparently only one on this album. Country and gangster rap are not my frequented musical genres.

Not really my kind of thing, to be honest. I don't hate it by any means, it's just boring. In some places really boring.

Old school rock and roll with a hint of country elements! Not bad but not planning on relistening.

This was kind of catchy... could see myself mixing this in during a road trip. More like a 2.5.

Kinda boring even though it was short it felt like it dragged

Fuck, how much Creedence is IN this list?

Low wpm repetitive music. It's probably influential and shit idk why else would it be on the list

it was ok

Nice Blues guitar, but not very impressive style/character

moar harmonica! moar!

Highs are high, the rest is just meh. Interesting that this album is the origin of Chooglin. 2/5

I was honestly expecting more from the album. I really enjoyed the last CCR album by them but this was disappointing to say the least, and the third song took a lot out of me. It wasn’t awful but I thought it’d be more.

CCR - kind of a straightforward American band without too much outward complexity, standard four piece 60s blues based music that oh by the way my generation was completely overexposed to as kids and teenagers on classic radio. I would rarely keep them on the dial... and yet... I guess I'm kind of surprised that I don't entirely dislike this band. e.g. when it comes down to it "Born On The Bayou" is just kind of fantastic and I should probably finally admit I've always liked it. It's like...98% one chord for 5 minutes and some slow 7th chord riffing... and goddamn if it doesn't groove. I keep thinking about if this song were recorded today, it would be completely fkd up by quantization and perfection and tuning but it's entirely the human element that crushes this song. Unfortunately the problem with this album is that it never gets far beyond that simplicity and when it doesn't groove it's just terribly boring. "Graveyard Train" is a plodding waste of time and space. Uninteresting blues riffs with nowhere to go. There are two undeniably great songs in here; Bayou and "Proud Mary" which is such a classic that it almost feels like nobody wrote it, it just always existed - so it's worth a listen but the overall inconsistency makes it hit and a little more miss. There would be better albums to come (i.e."Cosmo's Factory") but save a few obvious tracks to your library from this one and move on. 5/10 2 stars.

Meh, maybe I need more time to get into this

Something about this album just isn’t clicking for me, even after 3 listens over a couple of days. I am not sure if it’s the album’s problem, or mine. I am not counting out CCR… this is just the first time I’ve given them a real, honest listen. There are some guitar parts that feel *awesome*, like they really get you going. The lead singer is selling it on those first two tracks. But I feel pretty distant from this music, like it’s a culture I will always be an outsider to, and I’m craning my neck for some vantage point to get a proper look in, but it’s no use. It all feels a little foreign to me. I think I need another entryway in, and maybe there’s another CCR album that gets me there. For me, 3 stars is “had a good time,” and I’m still standing outside the venue, trying to figure out what the whole thing is about.

2* Not really my cup of tea

Not my favorite

Huh, I disliked this more than I thought I was going to. I knew southern rock wasn't really my thing, but even though musically it's impressive, it's also pretty boring. Non of the songs really stick out that much, other than perhaps Proud Mary (but that's because I already knew it), and the yell singing done by the singer even starts to get a little grating. None of it was BAD per se, just not interesting or my thing.

Jammy blues, southern swamp themed. Heard many of these songs before. Well put together but don’t love the music.

notes - ccr’s second album, first of 3 albums they released that year - “swamp rock “ , id say thats accurate - produced by ccr singer songwriter guitarist john fogerty - trying to follow up their first charting single - john fogerty has this super gritty and soulful sound that pairs really well with the “swamp” vibe fav - bootleg - cool acoustic guitar and repeating lead part least fav - keep on chooglin - just sits on the same chord for pretty much the whole song enjoyable songs in the background but not my fav, 2.5/5

CCR dad rock. Proud Mary

cool album cover

Love the album cover.

CCR could be the only artist to have two albums released in the same year included in the '1001 Albums...' book? Bayou Country (158) and Green River (163) are separated by only four pages. This fact is as baffling as it is impressive. It's a real struggle to see what it is about CCR's music that is particularly interesting, influential, or noteworthy. To me it just seems to be competent but unchallenging soft rock music. Added to that, I found this album to also be quite irritating and annoying, which I guess is at least something to mark it out as different to the other two CCR albums that have passed through my ear canals. Rating: 2/5 Playlist track: Proud Mary Date listened: 27/07/22

Spell no Creedence, a!!!

Not as good as greatest hits.

I really like CCR - but I have never actually listened to one of their studio albums start to finish. This was all very bluesy which is OK, but not great.

Suena bien!

Too white for me 2/5

I don't really like CCR and this didn't change my mind much, most of the songs are pretty average. Also interesting they're not actually southern but from California

Bayou Country is the second album from CCR and it is certified double platinum. This album is significant for the band CCR because they found their sound with this second album. I don't believe this is their best album, so I am hoping some of their other albums are on this list.

Let's be real here - "Proud Mary" is the only good song on this album. Wikipedia definitely had it right in calling this genre 'Swamp Rock'. Listening to this feels like I've been transported to the deep American south where we're in either a trailer park or down by some swampy lake fishing. (If that's what they were going for then I guess they nailed it?). Two stars only for Proud Mary. Best: Proud Mary Worst: Graveyard Train Note: Spotify had the 40th Anniversary Deluxe Edition - I only listened to the songs on the original album.

I understand that they’re a classic band but honestly the singing is not for me and the stories I couldn’t relate to despite the poverty. The one thing I will say is the guitar playing is top notch and fantastic most of the time, even though it lingers on the overindulgent.

Not really my thing but I get it

Saved Prior: None Off Rip: Born on the Bayou, Penthouse Pauper Cutting Edge: None Overall Notes: Don't really have anything to say about this, it's fine country swamp rock. Graveyard Train might just be the longest song ever. 2.5 rounded down.

I must confess as I listened to this album nearly every song just reminded me of the hits I do know

I enjoy the general sound of the band and I the vibe they are going for. But the songs are SO BORING and mind-numbingly repetitive. With the exception of 'Proud Mary', you can hear everything that each song has to offer within 20 seconds of the song starting.

Not too bad. Classic stoner rock, I guess.

not really my thing

Decent, but not really my thing

Country blues, slightly psych in places. Not that interesting.

Just generally a pretty boring album for my tastes. The later songs are actually more engaging than the first few songs, but somehow this 33 minute album plays more like an hour and a half.

A couple of decent songs doesn’t make a great album.

Proud Mary aside, this isn't the Credence you're looking for. Besides, let's be honest, Ike and Tina Turner's version of "Proud Mary" absolutely destroys CCR's original. There's much better Credence to come. Aside from the two hits everyone knows and a decent cover of "Good Golly Miss Molly", there's not much here. Actual rating is 2.5. My first time getting into Credence outside of their hits.

It was okay.

Dirty fuckin' hippies. CCR, will always occupy that space on the other side of the peace, happiness and 'love -will-save-us-all' flower power movement for me. Just over that line resides the stinky, up-all-night, bloated excesses with a dirty harmonica in a shirt pocket, otherwise known as Creedence Clearwater Revival. Though listening to this album did not change my, albeit narrow view of the band, it was nice to listen to some of the underplayed songs from this album. I appreciated the late night, drunken Graveyard Train blues-y tune and to a lesser extent, the harmonica-laden Keep on Chooglin' song at the end. However, there are three things going on here that prevents me from ranking this album higher: 1. FOGERTY SINGING - (not sure which one 'cause I don't care) and his fake-ass southern drawl. These guys are from Cali. 2. That twang-y, shit-guitar sound. 3. The dirty fuckin' hippies.

Born On The Bayou: C'ha l'arpeggio di chitarra che è stranamente moderno, me piace.

I like a lot of CCR stuff, none of it seemed to be on this album. This seemed just too much CCR, it was overrun with high levels of CCR-ness. Someone turned up the CCR to 11. It's an overbaked cake, a hat on a hat, CCR squared. Even the voice was too much for me. Too CCR, too American, too much.

Some good old rock

Boring!! Didn't like the main vocalist's voice

It's fine, but it's boring. Probably won't listen again.

Interchangeable with any other 60's rock album. Tedious.

Thought it was average

Not really my thing

Not for me im afraid.

eh, CCR is so generic

Pari hittibiisiä joista en ole koskaan tykännyt. Levyn muut biisit eivät yltäneet edes tuolle tasolle.

I'm giving it two stars, but only because I think Green River will be on here and it's their better album?

demasiado song of the south pa mi gusto

notttttt my vibe

Lame ??

I liked some of it. Not bad.

Simplemente no es para mí. Bastante zzzzzz.

En trois mots : long, ennuyeux, répétitif.

sto country mannaggia a diooo

pretty ass

meeeh demasiado country para mi

3/10 - how is this generic hilly billy music on this list? Can't believe this group has 3 albums here

idk about this

Holy shit they wrote Proud Mary! I fucking hate that song. Don't think Creedence Clearwater needed reviving tbh

Lackluster, some of the soloing was cool with the first and last track being the highlights… but god do I loathe proud marry as a song

I just dont like this type of music i hated his voice im sorry

dont like country best to worst Bootleg 2/10 Golly Miss Molly 2/10 Born On The Bayou 2/10 Penthouse Pauper 1/10 Graveyard Train 1/10 Proud Mary ?/10 Keep On Chooglin' ?/10

Proud Mary makes this not a zero star album. Otherwise horrible. Fortunate Son is the only reason these people didn’t die in a bog undiscovered

Imagine the highlight of your album being a harmonica solo

Not really a genre I look forward to but the songs were great for the genre, i'm just not really into country rock music but it was a nice album to listen to. Also, i dont really like the length of these songs as they were quite long, but i do believe they are a great band, just not my cup of tea.

It's a no from me😭😂

i am extremely uninterested in this entire album so far, not a single song is standing out to me this is like the shit they play in a bar for middle aged white guys in leather jackets

not my style

Wow, 60's country is far from my cup of tea. This has not regenerated my will to live.

I grew up hearing a few of these songs on the radio and couldn’t stand them. The full album is just as bad for me.

Not for me.

Too redneck, and podunk for me.

2/10 I just don’t get CCR. This was boring sludgy blues jam that would have been torture if it went on longer. Only decent songs were pub band covers of decent rock & roll songs Best: Good Golly Miss Molly

ruim dms

I can't stand Creedence. Proud Mary is passable, the rest is torture for me to listen to

CCR is from Oakland and thats not anywhere near a bayou

Corny. Turned it off immediately.

Excruciatingly dull.

Did not enjoy

a little boring

I didn't like CCR then and still don't like them. This first album sounds like a second rate garage band. I've had to suffer through three of their albums so far. I'm sure there's more to come.

not my style at all tbh

So fun fact, I can't stand Creedence's music and have been dreading their appearance on this list! It's like this weird aversion that's beyond my control. Sorry!!!! Gave it a shot, but his voice grates on me. PROUD MARY KEEP ON BOYNIN'. Also, chooglin'? What are we doing here?? I fully acknowledge this is a Me Problem, but I will be true to myself and give this one star.

Proud Mary is a classic, but other than that this felt one note. Other groups did this style of music better in my opinion. And CCR has much better stuff

born on the bayou... the instrumental is groovy. not a fan of the country voice. very weak song and its not going anywhere. 3/10 bootleg...there is a nice call and response from the vocalist and the guitar. nothing too innovative with the lyrics. this is npc music from the 69s. 1 bar solo 😭😭 2/10 graveyard train... 9 minutes huh. idk whats up with country rock but it sounds so annoying and i hate their voices. and the harmony is too basic. nothing sophisticated. ive sat for 8 minutes and this song hasnt moved anywhere yet. not even a chord change. 2/10 Good golly ms molly.... this has slightly more variation but still lacks any emotion. the solo is nice. also the little rap-ish breaks give the song more dynamic. this stands out from the rest 4/10. penthouse pauper...more groove and it feels like we left the old ass farm and we are now in some sort of bar. his voice is slightly more tolerable on this song. I've heard worse. 4/10 proud mary...this one is honestly quite good. his voice sounds amazing on this and there SO MUCH movement on the guitar. very groovy and full instrumental. it serves its purpose. amazing solo and amazing chorus modulation. this has color and emotion. the sun dawning on their old ass farm. human. 5,5/10 keep on chooglin... the backing track is annoying since its only 1 bar repeating itself. feels like listening to a broken record. im getting tired of the samesounding blues improvisations. 4 minutes solo 😭😭. horrible way to end the album. 4/10 overall 3.5/10 album. would never listen again

Not for me. 1/5

All these years I thought I liked CCR 🤔 John Fogarty’s voice is unbearable. The instrumentals are awesome, but the singing. It’s just…annoying I only got halfway through the third song before I called it quits. I’m sorry America. I just don’t like Creedence Clearwater Revival. There I’ve said it

Barf. All sounds the same, I can see why southern idiots love this

Not my genre, too classic. I liked some guitars but no thanks.

Meh... Beginning to think that apart from some very specific albums/bands, I'm not a fan of the 60s/70s!

Never was a CCR fan and listening to this album confirms it

I hate country-fried rock, and this is one of the worst offenders: the raspy voice, twangy guitar, and oh yay - a fucking harmonica. Absolutely not.
