Beck
2/5
Nice beat :) On song 2 so far. Girl has a fun 8-bit intro. Missing is sort of a trippy song with the bells? Chimes? Less energy though. I found Black Tambourine to be laughably bad, and boring. Earthquake Weather begins very interestingly. In fact, I liked it so much, that was the first song from this album I added to my liked list. Interesting beat, sorta funky. Interesting lyrics. My favorite song on this album by far. Hell Yes is kind of reminiscent of his older stuff. I also really enjoy this song. I like slower songs, so when Broken Drum started I was excited to see where it went...it went nowhere basically. I liked the lyrics, but musically was boring to me. Scarecrow was fine and I added it because it did make my head bob. None of the last four songs were anything of note to me. Album started slow, got better in the middle, and ended slow. 4/10 I think.
Parliament
3/5
Really digging this first song! I love the Chocolate Milky Way. Love the sax. Love the uncut funk! Second song is not quite as good, but still fun. Kinda repetitive. Some interesting instrumentation in the fourth song. Handcuffs is a hot song! Nevermind - Do not like the barefoot and pregnant lyric. :( Kinda yucky! Was going to add it to my liked songs, but the song got progressively creepier. Oh I actually know this song (Give Up the Funk)! This last song kind of sounds like a fart LOL.
Radiohead
3/5
Trippy start. I enjoy Radiohead, but don't think I have ever heard this album. This first song is a bit bleak. I have heard this album has a bit of a reputation for being depressing. Kid A is an interesting song, the vocals sound like they are coming through an old timey radio a bit. The National Anthem sounds like a sci-fi song, and has UFO sounds. Interesting horn solo! Ended like a noise rock song, which I don't love. How to Disappear Completely is my favorite song so far despite it being so sad. But I really love sad music. Treefingers is another bleak song, but an instrumental piece. Instrumentals often bore me, and this one was no different. I liked the mood it gave, but did not feel interested enough to add it to my liked list. Optimistic seems sarcastic almost. Or cynical. I like the vibe of In Limbo a lot. Again, a pretty sad song. Is Idioteque about climate change? Very prescient even for today! Wow, what a song. I love it! Good beat as well. Best song on the album perhaps! Morning Bell is not as good, but I still enjoyed it. Almost hopeful after Idioteque? Maybe not hopeful, but definitely not as grim as Idioteque. Album sort of ended with a whimper.
Creedence Clearwater Revival
2/5
So far, this album is incredibly boring to me. It is fine to listen to, nothing really stands out as being offensively bad or anything. But that almost makes it worse somehow. The first mildly interesting song was Graveyard Train due to the lyrics and the sick harmonica solo. Good Golly Miss Molly was pretty fun, and dancey. Nice guitar solo. Proud Mary was familiar and fine. Overall, a pretty lackluster album to me. Nothing stood out much at all.
Beastie Boys
4/5
First song is super fun with a good beat (if you ignore all the gun lyrics lol). The New Style again is just so fun. Good beat. Fun lyrics. Dang, why do all these songs have such a good beat, but the lyrics are like focused on guns or misogynistic? She's Crafty is so good, but has a lot of slut shaming. Maybe I just need to put myself into the mindset of someone in 1986. Ok this has gotten funny now, so I think I might like it :) Posse in Effect is another good one. All great beats. Loving the vibes because it is funny and laid back. I always thought Girls was kind of a yucky song, but I know they are trying to be funny too. This entire album is juvenile (which might be what is holding me back), but still good and fun. I really had fun listening to it overall.
Stevie Wonder
2/5
I like the guitar in Visions. Only on song 2, but not feeling much towards this album yet. First decent song on this album was High Ground. A very meh album to me.
Genesis
4/5
Like the opening song. But Fly on a Windshield really spoke to me. Beautiful instrumentation, and solemn lyrics. Really like how this is a formative progressive rock album. Love the overall story behind it. Love the consumerist imagery in "The Grand Parade of Lifeless Packaging". Interesting instrumentation in Counting Out Time. Really enjoying the imagery in The Carpet Crawlers. The Waiting Room had sort of creepy/unsettling energy to it. My favorite song is the Colony of Slippermen. Loved, loved, loved this album. :)
Def Leppard
4/5
Nice, energetic opening song. Really fun album. Some interesting war imagery. Will have to do research on those songs. Too Late for Love is my favorite song on this album. Really good energy throughout. Not boring to me at all. Really, really strong finish with Billy's Got a Gun.
Circle Jerks
3/5
LOL @ Operation being about a vasectomy. Punk has such a high energy, and this album is no different. Some fun lyrics throughout. Can relate to the sentiment behind World Up My Ass. Prescient song with Paid Vacation. Not too much to say because the album was super short, but I enjoyed it.
Queen
4/5
First song was a bit heavy on the falsetto, which I did not love. Killer Queen is a bop always. Tenement Funster had a real good beat to it. I love the kind of creepy intro to Flick of the Wrist, and then turns into a song that is reminiscent of RHPS vibes. Something I really enjoyed about this album is the seamless transition between songs. Each song flows into one another, which is refreshing from the intro/outro format of more modern music. Lilly of the Valley was nice, but sort of boring. Now I'm Here is much more impactful both musically and lyrically. Very fun song. The vocalization in the intro for In The Lap of Gods was incredibly jarring. Stone Cold Crazy is wacky and fast-paced. Dear Friends is a bit out of place, but a needed energy reprieve maybe. Misfire feels a bit boppy in a good way. Bring Back Leroy Brown is almost a comical change of tone to me. Really fun album that kept me guessing all the way through.
King Crimson
5/5
21st Century Schizoid Man reminds me a bit of War Pigs in the lyrics. I am really enjoying this first song a lot. I Talk to the Wind is a nice chill piece of music. Lyrics are interesting, but nothing out of the ordinary. Beautiful and cryptic lyrics in Epitaph. Lovely and haunting instrumentation as well. Moonchild is so interesting, vivid, and spooky in some parts. The Court of the Crimson King is my favorite song on the album. Love the imagery provided by the lyrics, the vocalizations, the instrumentation.
The Rolling Stones
4/5
Route 66 is a fun bop. I Just Wanna Make Love to You is a fun and kinda progressive song honestly. Honest I Do is kind of boring. I will have to see if the trend is that their more fast paced songs tend to be more interesting/fun. Cool harmonica though. I love a harmonica solo. Mona is such an interesting song. I find the instrumentation very unique. Lyrics were much simpler back then, but the instrumentation of songs seems overall more...complex. Another harmonica focused song. Little by Little has such a fun beat. These songs almost seem country western or...something. Twangy. But in a fun way. I'm a King Bee is bluesy and nice. Real vibes there. And sexy ;) Carol is another bop honestly. Just such fun old time rock beats. Tell Me is boring and so repetitive. I just feel like all their slower songs are very meh. They really succeed with the faster beats, and fun songs. You Can Make It If You Try is where the album starts falling off for me. Walking the Dog was a bit more fun to end the album on. Overall pretty good. :)
Daft Punk
1/5
I do not love electronic music, so we will see if this album changes my mind a bit. First song is repetitive (which is one of my issues with electronic music). I do like the seamless transitions. On song 4 of a 31 song album and I already want to peel my skin off at the one-dimensional, repetitive beats. I do like the ocean sounds in Fresh a lot. That was different and nice. Around the World is a good song, possibly due to nostalgia for me. Rollin and Scratchin is the worse song on this album yet. It is actively offensive. Teachers was a nice song after all that lol. High Fidelity is more of the same repetitive nonsense, both musically and lyrically. Rock n Roll is also a shockingly bad song. Burnin sounds like lasers and not in a good way. Glad it is over. It's a 1 from me Dawg.
Radiohead
3/5
I am liking this album a bit more than Kid A. Still sort of melancholy and melodic. Pyramid Song has haunting lyrics, and an interesting beat. Pulk/Pull Revolving Doors is different, but not necessary my thing. Perhaps too abstract? Reminds me a bit of an art installation. You and Whose Army? is fine. A bit boring, but fine to listen to. Loved the different intro for I Might Be Wrong. Actually really enjoyed this song all the way through. Kind of an interesting country western vibe to the music, and good lyrics. Lengthy and different outro. Maybe my favorite song on this album. Knives Out has almost a lounge-y vibe. I'm so intrigued by the story behind these lyrics. Morning Bell was fine. Again, a bit boring, but nothing egregious. Dollars and Cents almost sounds sci fi-like. Hunting Bears was a nice instrumental song. Unsettling instrumentation in Like Spinning Plates. Life in a Glasshouse is very moody, and the lyrics are quite interesting and vivid to me.
Neil Young
4/5
I like the chill, folky opening song. Harmonica solo. Harvest is fine, but kind of twangy for my taste. Like the lyrics though. I might not be understanding the point of A Man Needs a Maid, which is too bad because the dramatic music and vocalizations were nice. It grew on me, again despite the lyrics. Heart of Gold is also nice. I do enjoy folk music, and this album is growing on me as it goes on. Old Man is probably my favorite song in this album. Haunting lyrics and nice guitar. Noticing the banjo for the first time too :) Really digging the guitar solo on Words. Nice song to end the album on. Overall, solid album.
2/5
The nature sounds to start the album off are nice. Very interesting instrumentation, especially the guitar. Really excited for another progressive album. This first song has been a wild ride. Am loving the gothic organ type music 12 mins in! Another vibe change within the same song! Keeps you guessing for sure. And You and I is a really good song. I like the folky bit 6 mins in. The nonsense lyrics sprinkled in are kind of funny to me. So far it has been an ok album, but nothing has gripped me. Some of the instrumentation seems a bit pointless, which I think is a common gripe of progressive music. I am enjoying the song America. This album was fine, but nothing special. That was surprising to me since I enjoy prog so much.
De La Soul
4/5
The intro track is fun. I'm not the biggest hip hop fan, but I am really enjoying their lighter, fun style. The Magic Number was very interesting to me. I don't know that I like it yet, but I'm definitely paying attention. It's almost avant garde hip hop. It reminds me of the progressive rock version of hip hop honestly lol. Jenifa Taught Me is a fun song, and the first one I truly enjoyed beyond just the novelty of a different type of hip hop. Eye Know is also nice. The lyrics of this whole album are fun and different. A Little Bit of Soap was hilarious! This whole album is just fun.
Paul Simon
3/5
Are there sheep bleating in the intro to Think Too Much? Song About the Moon was nice. Album was very meh for me.
Meat Loaf
4/5
I already knew I loved this album honestly. So glad it is on the list. It's very fun. He was a great vocalist, and this album shows off his singing skills for sure. Very nostalgic album for me. Enjoyed it!
Pixies
3/5
First song is a bit disjointed, but interesting. Seems to mix some aspects of rock and punk, which I really enjoy. Something Against You is very punk-esque. Gigantic is a real banger honestly. Reminds me of grunge style. Where is My Mind will never not be great. Vamos was a bit much as far as noise rock. Brick is Red was a nice song to end on.
The Smashing Pumpkins
5/5
So excited for this album. Cherub Rock slaps forever! Love the intro to Quiet, kinda more grungy than expected. I don't love Today, but that may be because it was overplayed on the radio. A few boring songs. Disarm is sooo good. Soma also good, haunting. Really great album over all. So happy I got to start my day with this.
Roxy Music
3/5
Do the Strand is such an interesting song to me. It almost reminds me of RHPS a bit. Weird vibe, but interesting. I think I like it, but I can't quite tell. Like campy energy. Beauty Queen is a bit boring. Just any old song. The lead singers voice is unique, sort of wavery. Nevermind, I did not expect this vibe change in the middle of the song. In Every Dream Home a Heartache is a pretty wild song. Again, I'm not sure if I like this band or not. They definitely keep you guessing, and it seems more palatable than prog rock. The Bogus Man is more like prog rock actually. And creepy. Love that. For Your Pleasure was a bit of a drawn out song to end on.
Emmylou Harris
3/5
Well I was not excited when I saw this was a country album, but it is not bad so far. On the second song, Michelangelo . Nothing has struck me, but it's not torture to listen to so far. Red Dirt Girl is the first song I enjoyed. Had a bit too much of religiosity sprinkled in the songs for me overall. It was fine.
Alanis Morissette
5/5
Banger after banger on this album. A Five for me. No notes.
The Lemonheads
2/5
So far this album has been boring. The lyrics aren't captivating. The music is generic 90s alt/rock. Kind of a nothingburger.
2/5
Album is pretty mid overall. The only song I liked was Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds. I'm sure it was groundbreaking for the time, but nothing stuck out to me as amazing really.
Yeah Yeah Yeahs
4/5
I love this first song. Pretty excited for this album overall. Just a very grungy/indie sound. Right up my alley. Some too screamy bits, but overall really good.
Joanna Newsom
4/5
This first song is so interesting to me. The storytelling is vivid. Art set to music. I don;t love her voice, but her artistry keeps me interested. I love the lyrics. Very poetry-esque.
Stereolab
2/5
This album was a bit of a slog. There were a few things working against it for me. For one it was quite reliant on electronic music, which as everyone knows, is not my favorite. Second, I do not love foreign music tbh. I am not afraid of foreign films at all because there are often subtitles, but foreign music doesn't have subtitles and I will not be translating it for myself. I'm not saying that it is below music in English, but I connect with music mostly lyrically, and if I can't understand the lyrics then it likely just isn't for me. I could see how this would make me appear intellectually lazy with regards to music, but it is what it is. The songs that were in English did nothing for me either.
Spacemen 3
3/5
I really like this. It's very different, and the minimalist instrumentation really connects with me. Revolution seems almost punk-esque, and is so far my favorite song on the album. Suicide is the worst song in my opinion. Overall, fine. Some interesting songs, and some less so.
Bob Dylan
2/5
This harmonica is killing me. I liked the lyrics a lot from the first song. I cannot with this harmonica though. Why does he love it so much? The rest of the songs are pretty mid when they aren't killing me slowly via harmonica.
Frank Zappa
3/5
Three songs in and it is pretty wacky, but not in a bad way. Wacky sax. I liked it overall. Was fun and interesting, but I do not think I would search it out to listen to again.
Japan
4/5
Really enjoying the spooky new wave vibe of this album. It's keeping my interested, and the lyrics are good and haunting. Some interesting instrumentation on Halloween. Really good album overall. I liked multiple songs. The final instrumental song with interesting, with some Asian influence possibly. And some queer coded songs like Quiet Life, and Alien. Liked it very much overall!
Beatles
3/5
Three songs into this album and I am honestly pretty bored. I do like the peppiness of ob-la-di. I also have loved While My Guitar Gently Weeps for a long time. Much of the instrumentation on this album is irritating to me. Very boppy, but in a grating way. I like more songs on this album than I did on Sgt. Pepper. Revolution 9 is maybe the most horrifying song in existence.
Jeru The Damaja
3/5
Two songs in and I do like the beats. Some good lyrics in D. Original. It was fine. Pretty mid to me honestly. Nothing stood out to me except very few of the lyrics.
Randy Newman
1/5
Kind of a tough first song to listen to. Nothing on this album stuck out for me except all the hard Rs on the first song. Very boring.
B.B. King
3/5
Pretty fun to listen to. Great singer. Nothing special with the lyrics, but interesting guitar solos. I like music I can make a movie to in my mind, and this fits the bill. Pretty good overall.
Funkadelic
3/5
Really interesting lore behind the ultimate band, Parliament-Funkadelic. The most interesting song musically was Back in Our Minds. My favorite song was the opener, Maggot Brain. Pretty good overall!
Nick Drake
3/5
I generally like singer/songwriters, and I am enjoying this although nothing stands out to me being three songs in. It is fine and competent work for a musician. I like the nice saxophone in At the Chime of a City Clock. I like his instrumental songs better than his other songs. Pretty enjoyable overall.
4/5
Album was fun and interesting. Very typical 80s sound, so I bet it was trailblazing for the time. Lots of lounge-y elements, which was different.
Neil Young
3/5
This one seems a bit more calm than Harvest. I don't like it as much as Harvest either, maybe because the vibes are more chill. It sounds like any other folk artist. I did really like the imagery and metaphor in Vampire Blues a lot. This album was fine to listen to overall. No strong feelings one way or the other.
Guided By Voices
3/5
I'm enjoying the short song format. This album has grown on me as I have listened. Halfway through now, and some real gems on here. Interesting lyrics. I'm not loving the second half of the album as much.
k.d. lang
4/5
I've never really listened to K.D. Lang before. I really enjoyed this album. Lounge-y, sexy, and romantic. I imagined playing this during a rainy night in with my wife. Beautiful lyrics that really show her yearning for someone.
Basement Jaxx
1/5
Two songs in and I'm waiting for the sweet release of death. Electronic music is the devil's work, and I'm not even religious. Boo to all of this honestly.
Beatles
1/5
Mostly boring except the last song which was actively upsetting.
Def Leppard
3/5
Very fun album. I couldn't listen to it as close as normal as I had things to do, but it was a good accompanying album for baking cupcakes to. My son danced to it as well, and approved. :)
Big Star
4/5
This album is full of surprises. Very all over the board in tone. The slower, sadder songs are haunting and beautiful. Not sure what to make of it honestly, but did keep me guessing for sure.
CHIC
2/5
Boring, snooze-fest except for their one hit song.
Big Star
2/5
That 70s Show theme! That's fun. Otherwise, kind of a snoozefest. None of the haunting lyrics or melodies from the other album from them we heard.
Mudhoney
4/5
Fun album overall. I can definitely see how they influenced a lot of grunge. I love this cover of The Rose! Overall I really dug it. :)
The Replacements
4/5
Pretty fun rock. One song was too noise-rock for me, but overall enjoyable and silly-in-a-fun-way in some spots. Liked it a lot.
Prince
2/5
Kind of a snoozefest :/ Sorry Prince (RIP), but not his best work. Fine and serviceable.
Neil Young & Crazy Horse
3/5
A lot more rock, and a lot less folky than the other albums I've heard from him. I am liking it, but nothing has stood out to me so far. It was fine.
Johnny Cash
3/5
Hurt is so complicated in it's simplicity. Iconic. His originals are better than his other covers on this particular album though, save Hurt of course. Personal Jesus was good actually. I like the piano in it. Actually the rest of the album was pretty mid. Nothing stood out. A pleasant listen, but that's pretty much all honestly.

Nothing stands out to me. Even the songs I am familiar with are quite boring. This project is making it clear that I prefer experimental things, even if they end up being bad. This Wheel's on Fire is comically bad. I Shall Be Released has an almost silly falsetto voice. Really unimpressed with this album.
Girls Against Boys
5/5
I love this stuff. Very grungy. Probably influenced Marilyn Manson. At least a 4, but maybe a 5 even. Reminds me of high school in the best way.
