Reviews (page 5 of 8)

This was a very generic 90’s alt album. It reminds me of the band Jellyfish but not as good.

In It for the Money 3.8 Richard III 3.5 Tonight 3.6 Late in the Day 3.5 G-Song 3.6 Sun Hits the Sky 3.6 Going Out 2.8 It's Not Me 3.4 Cheapskate 3.5 You Can See Me 3.3 Hollow Little Reign 3.6 Sometimes I Make You Sad 3.4 Score: 3.466666667

Another 90s band that I decided were not for me and didn't bother listen to at the time. If I could go back in time to my former self after listening to this I would say .... "nice one, your assumption on their value to your life was completely correct. Boring as hell". This only got three stars because some of their tracks on the second part of the album were slower and slightly more meaningful.

Ergh couldn’t get on with this, maybe didn’t give it a full shot

Billy Corgan's finsta? I kid, but only kinda. Anyway it's all kinda bog standard ok rock.

It was pretty good, though it felt like it just kept on going at points.

Very 90's but fun/fine.

I listened. Thought it was alright. Can’t remember anything I heard. Generic. 3/5

All of these 90s British bands feel like pale imitations of Oasis, Pulp and Blur...or some combination of the three. It's very dull. I'm not sure any other era of music got the favorable treatment these bands did in this project. 70s art rock? Noise rock? I'm not sure if I like this album or I Should Coco better. I think this? This is like Britpop Smashing Pumpkins...that is not a compliment. Cheapskate is the best song so far. The second half of the album is much better than the first. Maybe "much" was a bit of an overstatement. It is better though.

Album 935 of 1089 Supergrass - In It For The Money (1997) Rating : 3.5 / 5 I’ve enjoyed what I’ve heard from this band before, and this one was no different. They’ve got a great energy - that sharp mix of Britpop attitude with just enough grit and melody to keep things fun. It’s got that carefree swagger that makes you feel like you’ve stumbled into the middle of a good time. Even with my listening session being interrupted, I found myself nodding along to the sound and spirit of it. The hooks are solid, the guitars punchy, and the vocals have that classic 90s alt charm. Maybe not a masterpiece, but definitely a good time and another reminder that Supergrass deserved more recognition than they got.

I don't have much experience with britpop music - mostly only Oasis. I thought this was an okay release, both vocally and instrumentally I found it similar to Oasis. I would guess that's what most britpop sounds like.

kind of all over the place, different from the only supergrass song I know. but not bad. decent standard issue Britpop imo

Jotain hyvääkin

Really enjoyed the beginning but became a little more standard as it went. Might give it a revisit at some point.

Enjoyable, kind of reminds me of Neon Trees. 3*

I recognized the name Supergrass but have never actually listened to them before. This is perfectly fine serviceable britpop, but I can’t for the life of me picture a scenario where I would choose to listen to them over one of the bigger britpop bands like Oasis, Blur, or Pulp

Первый альбом понравился больше.

This sounded like a Smashing Pumpkins knockoff.

a few of the songs were killer but most of it was typical 90's alternative rock on this album. Very british power pop, got Oasis vibes.

As I’ve been working my way through various “top albums lists,” I’ve found that Supergrass is another one of those bands that achieved significant success in the UK but remained relatively unknown in the US. These albums can be hit or miss for me. For this one, I enjoyed it for what it was and thought it had a cool vibe. While I’d like to think I’ll revisit it in the future, the truth is I probably won’t. Its moment in history has passed, and while it was enjoyable, it doesn’t compel me to come back to it.

Standard Britpop fayre. Good rocky tunes. Recognised more tracks than I thought I would .

Meh. 2.5 / 5

Another Britpop album that's genuinely good? What is the world coming to? This isn't my first Supergrass album, but I found I enjoyed it more than their previous debut album, I Should Coco. It sounded a lot more like alternative rock, and the guitar has some great, catchy riffs. Keeping the album on repeat was really easy. I was delighted to hear more than just Britpop/rock--I mean, "Tonight" even has a touch of jazz with the horn! And "Hollow Little Reign" had a pinch of psychedelia. Both contributed to a well-rounded sound for Supergrass. 3.5

I immediately got heavy Smashing Pumpkins vibes from this. But honestly, this album was more than that. There was a lot of unique soundscapes that made them stand out and not sound quite like anyone else -- a good example of this being the closing track, "Sometimes I Make You Sad". I actually liked the other Supergrass album that appeared on this project as well, and they were completely new to me at that point, so I guess I really need to dive more into their discography. Like the previous Supergrass album, this one was labeled as "Britpop" genre and that definitely caused me to flinch a bit. But also like the previous Supergrass album, this listened more like American alternative rock of the time period.

Highlight Song/s: G-Song and Sun Hits the Sky I think this is not too shabby. It definitely isn't as good as I Should Coco. I'm not exactly too sure why. The follow-up albums to really good albums is tricky to nail.

That's not my taste in music - But ok

Heard this a lot as a twelve year old son it was hard to make a fresh new opinion about it

decent pre good

In my head, this is the definition of britpop. Cheery and interesting songs, great vibe, but not a memorable setlist (to my ears). Will probably listen again, as it sets a good mood and the band is solid, but I think I will need to check out their discography a compare to this album. Good, not great, with some replay value.

A couple of bangers, but far too long and much of it was forgettable.

Never heard of these guys but apparently big in the UK. Rolled my eyes when I saw double album. This was good - wouldn’t calm it a classic or something that made me want more but is a good 90s rock album. I have not been very insightful on my reviews but so much of this list feels generic.

I'm looking forward to this either I'll totally love it or not be impressed. haha. I LOVE the Supergrass song "Alright" and "Pumping on the Radio" and neither of these songs are on this album, so it will all be fresh for me today. I listened to it while driving back and forth from the library this afternoon while I was returning CDs. So I won't do like a song-by-song review. The first half of the album was sort of noise to me. Generic. The second half of the album was better, but still not necessarily to my taste. The album is at its best when there are more instruments than just guitars, bass and drums. I really enjoyed some of the horns (not a surprise I love horns too much lmao). Overall, I don't think I'll return to this one again. I have the "Supergrass is 10" best of album and I think that's just enough.

I like Supergrass and I thank the list for introducing them. This album wasn't as strong as their debut but still a fun one. It was but up and down with a very strong 3 track finish. Boosted my rating as it left me on a high. Few other good ones like "Sun Hits the Sky" and "Richard III." Not quite as strange as the Zappa album but a little tip of the hat I'm sure. I can go for more from these Brits...3.14.

Rock, könnte aus den 70er sein, ist aber aus der Zeit um 2000

Fun, up beat and more aggressive than the debut. Teetering on Garage Rock and turning away from britpop here. I liked it. Worth the listen. But won't come back to it.

All the parts are interesting and these guys clearly know what they're doing. But none of it really moves me. (What does and doesn't is so-often mysterious.) Putting aside the two Odes to Smashing Pumpkin here, it's odd that there was a trans-Atlantic 1966 revival happening in 1995. If you dig that part of this album check out the Apples in Stereo's Fun Trick Noisemaker. Not sure either album belongs on this list, but . . .

Always a good time listening to them.

Very interesting. Partly Britpop and partly psycho experimental rock. Decent to solid

Unlike the awful I should Coco, this is alright and can actually imagine a couple of these tracks coming on the radio and not switching it over. Would i add anything here to a playlist? Fuck no. 6/10

Prior to this, I had only listened to I Should Coco which is an entirely unremarkable album in all aspects except for the feelings of hatred and rage that seep into my mind palace when I think of it. I listened to that album like Jesus listening to Satan in the desert (of britpop). This may have soured my feelings towards the album and perhaps I should go back and listen to it with a clearer mind. I went into this expecting to despise it. Unfortunately, there will be no rage-fuelled negative review today. It's good. It's actually quite good. "In 1998, Q readers voted it the 68th greatest album of all time, while in 2000 the same magazine placed it at number 57 in its list of the 100 Greatest British Albums Ever." I wouldn't say it's quite *that* good though. Highlights: In It for the Money, Sun Hits the Sky, It's Not Me

I recognize the band name and the song “Richard the III”. This is a really good album. I enjoyed the songs, but they kind of forgettable.

This album is pretty good, though it hasn't really captured me either. Maybe one to come back to? This is definitely a music nerd album. But I just wanna bop. Does drag on a bit.

Quite good. Not many strong opinions on this.

It's fun just like the other album on the list "I Should Go Coco", my only small issue (I guess) is the fact that it does run together a little, which is tough because songs like Richard III or You Can See Me are so good and the kind of energy britpop should have

Decent but not remarkable

Diminishing returns from the Oxford boys here, as they lose a little of the youthful exuberance of I Should Coco. This is still a very solid slice of Britpop though, and Gaz still brings a great deal of energy. It's just a touch generic I guess.

I gave this a good solid listen and just didn't find it all that interesting. Not bad, but nothing special either.

Nice alternative rock. Nothing stood out.

girl who likes this

It's easy to see why these guys are still beloved by so many fans. And just as easy to understand why the rest of us remain staunchly indifferent. Nothing here nearly as fun as "Alright," from an earlier album of theirs I reviewed for this 1001 albums project.

I remember Supergrass from back in the day. I couldn't recall precisely their musical style but vaguely thought I was good with them. Relistening I see why. Yeah, they are OK. Pretty good groove, pretty good lyrics... They are pretty good. I am sure they have a fan base that is solid, Probably a few hits from other albums that I have heard... I have spoken of this numerous times. There are bands at the head table and bands that sit in concentric circles moving outwards. Supergrass is not at the head table and likely not so much in the first couple of rows. It is not a problem with them, it is maybe a saturation issue with so many bands that edged them out at the time and still do. And that is the reason I struggle to remember them. They wind up a band I have heard of that is pretty good. But this is probably the first and last time I will ever write (home) about them!

This did not need to be 2 albums. Pretty unique sound though, I usually dont care for this style of vocals but the instrumentals carry it well. Good poppy energy, but it doesnt ever really reach higher than that. Also the horns in Tonight really sound great on top of everything else.

Fine but nothing really made it stand out

++: In It for the Money, Tonight, G-Song, Sun Hits the Sky, Going Out, Cheapskate, Hollow Little Reign +: Richard III, Late in the Day, It's Not Me +-: You Can See Me -: Sometimes I Make You Sad 7,6/10

Chirpy

Not bad.

J - 3/5 Best Track - "Late In The Day"

Does there need to be two Supergrass albums on this list?

Generic Britpop. An overall enjoyable listen but nothing stood out to me at all. Probably will not revisit.

It was alright. But half the album (disc2) was off ‘I should coco’ and I already listened to that..?

First Kings of Leon, and now another band who are fine on the face of it but leave me cold.

Endlich ein 90s BritPop Album, das hat echt gefehlt auf dieser Liste. 3 Sterne. Next

Album cover doesn't look the way the album sounds. I'd place most of this in a 2000s pop punk playlist to make some stand out tracks within the mix. Great artistry in the musicality of it all. A little outside of personal taste, but it's easy to understand the inmense ammount of talent poured into this project.

Excelente ejemplo de brit pop rabioso

I had never heard of this album before this listen. I enjoyed the listen. Nothing felt formative or revolutionary. I’m almost surprised to see that this is a 90s record, as it seems as though it a slightly fuzzier/driven version of a 60s Brit-Pop record. By this I mean I see this as fairly derivative of a Beatles record. This doesn’t disqualify it from being good, but it does not strike me as wildly creative or formally brilliant. You can hear some studio creativity or at least novelty. That said, I really enjoyed the album. I think towards the end I saw more genuine experimentation and the last track sounds like pre-grizzly bear influence. Best track: hollow little reign

Not my style, okay but lots of discordance. Giving it more of a chance, I can get behind some of the songs. Bumping up to 3 stars

It was a pretty good listen but nothing special. 6/10.

Not bad

Pretty standard pop rock stuff. Solid though. 3 stars

This is exactly what Luke told me it would be before I listened to it: exactly what I was expecting it to be. So that was right on two accounts. Decent collection of songs that stood out in no regard.

3.5 stars Second Supergrass album. I’d never heard them until 2 months ago. Not as instantly infectious as their debut, but solid songs throughout. Not revolutionary, but a good listen that wasn’t a chore to get through and had me interested in repeat listens.

Not quite my tastes but objectively interesting and had some recognisable songs on the album. Hard to place genre-wise but had a bit of punk rock about it

Exactly 3 stars. Its the definition of average.

I've never heard of supergrass before. There were a couple moments that reminded me of Ash. I thoroughly enjoyed this album and will be checking out their other stuff and listening to this again

Always wrote these boys off as simple basic indie but there was a pretty good guitar sound in here. Too long though.

I like them and imagine it would have been great fun jumping around to them at V Festival or something

This is pretty great - I always enjoyed the hits on MTV, but never really dived into their catalog, but it’s two great albums from them on this list, which is a surprise.

This felt like a lot of influences thrown into a blender. Maybe it warrants a closer listen; it felt very derivative, but not unpleasantly so?

just some decent britpop, wasn’t the best thing ever, but i didn’t have an issue with it, good music

Fun and energetic Britpop that kept my attention while listening, but probably wasn't enough to draw me back for a repeat listen anytime soon

I remember enjoying this album a lot more when it first came out. It’s fine, but I recall it being more dynamic and less pop-oriented than it sounds to me now.

Mostly likable indie pop. Not something I would necessarily revisit.

Started off good but got a little repetitive towards the back half

I still love the singles that were released from this album but there was more filler than I remember, I like Supergrass as a band and think they have better albums than this, I Should Coco and Road to Rouen all stand out for me.

Fine, but kind of boring. Didn’t even realise when I’d finished the album.

Regretting that I didn’t seek out more Supergrass in the 90s! They’re tight, they’re funny and “they produce good rock and roll, uh, music.” — Adam Scott

Best Song: Richard III. Good temp, forward-leaning rock. Worst Song: Sometimes I Make You Sad. Far too muddy. Overall: Much better than I anticipated. This was a fun, rollicking little album. Nothing I'm likely to remember in even a day or two, but sufficiently entertaining while it's here. This sounds like music I'd be happy to spontaneously see live, but wouldn't necessarily buy tickets to see. Festival find type of music.

I liked it, but not enough to seek out more.

Not bad.

Sounded pretty good from top to bottom, experimented with different sounds and styles while still sounding like "them". Nothing really stood out as memorable though

I was a little surprised to see this album pop up on the list. I had I should coco come up last week, and I guess I can see why that one would have been on there, but this one? It’s just not as good really. A few stand out tracks, sun hits the sky being one of them but the rest are just OK.

"Late in The Day", "Sun Hits The Sky" e "Going Out" são os destaques.

Pretty good 90s band. Not my fav, but not bad either.

Just another rock album from the 90s, had some decent tracks but mostly generic sounding.

Fun little album

A bright and loud album that makes some fun noise but doesn’t leave a significant impression. A step down from their debut.

# Album Name: In it for the money # Artist: Supergrass # Rating: 3/5 # Comments: Was alright. Singles are good. The rest of the album is meh. # Top Tunes: Richard 3 / Late in the day / sun hits the sky / make you sad # Would I listen to it again? Singles above.

Not too shabby

A lot of the songs fell into the background. Same old punk rock, pretty well played. The last song stood out to me though, with that weird Indian part.

Energetic and fun britpop. Some psychedelic elements, fast paced verses followed by swooping “flying through the clouds” type choruses. Favorite: Richard III Least: Going Out

Some nostalgic moments, 4/5 belters and then a bit of filler. Enjoyed it. Great 3 piece. They made Bristol vibey as hell

Not bad, I prefer the other Super grass album we had a couple weeks ago over this one.

Definitely entertaining but not my favorite 3.5/5

It’s ok

Completely new band to me. Sound reminded me of a lot of indie rock bands that came later, like The Fratellis. Had some fun lyrics, had energy behind the music that made me want to do something, without the m that necessarily being going smash something up.

This one's a bit of a grower. The first few tracks hit me like a fairly standard 90s Brit Rock album. A good one, but nothing too special. After a while it started to grow on me. By the end I was really enjoying it. Might have to go back and listen again. Maybe I'll like the first few tracks more the second time.

Mostly okay.

In It For the Money é um álbum agradável, mas que não me acrescenta em nada.

I probably would have loved this when I was 17.

Un buen álbum. Me gustó la intensidad de la batería y la distorsión de la guitarras. No encontré un riff o una melodía vocal muy pegadizas, pero aún así lo disfruté.

not bad

I don’t know if the review "more fun than watching a wombat in a washing machine" is totally warranted, but this album has its moments! Got a little bit of that muse/u2/coldplay vibe going on in parts - heard as soon as the 2:30 mark in “Richard 3”. Got a little bit of that Jack White vibe going on in “G-Song”. I liked the whirling synth in “Sun Hit The Sky” and how suspenseful the whole song is, I think it’s my personal favorite from the album. The eastern hand-drum line toward the end is so cool too! “Sometimes I Make You Sad” is quite the fun way to end this project. My quip with this project is that the lead singer is super hard to understand most of the time. I’m not sure if I’m supposed to be paying attention to him or not. Overall pretty fun, very high energy! Solid 3.

Fun album

Light 3. I like Supergrass just fine I guess. I need something other than music that came from Britain in the 90s tho that’s like all I’ve had for the past week

One song is very good and the others are meh so 3 stars

Ok 3/5

This album sounds every bit like 1997. The songs are pretty well crafted, but start to sound the same after a while. It’s a LONG record.

not bad

3/5 easy listening

Medium but not unpleasant. Sun hits the sky was my favorite track. Low three.

Decent, if a little unmemorable. It started off a little disappointingly for me before picking up towards the end of Disc 1. Disc 2 was unwelcome, and the whole thing dragged on a bit too long. Cheapskate and You Can See Me the highlights.

Richard III is a Brit-pop banger, and the rest of the album really captures the mood of 1997. They throw themselves at ever song, but it does get a bit exhausting, the relentless energy. With regret, I'm marking it down as a Brit-pop also ran rather than a Brit-pop classic. Maybe influenced by getting Dog Man Star yesterday.

I really enjoyed this! If this wasn't in a genre I already like so much (alternative rock) I'm not sure if I would be such a hard grader here. This could easily be a 4 star for me, but that feels a bit too easy. I'd happily listen to this any old time. I don't think, though, this would displace any of the dozens / hundreds of other alternative rock albums I'd listen to in its stead.

One of the better of entries in 1001 Mid-90s British Albums to Hear Before You Die. Still, way too many mid-90s British albums.

Surprisingly awesome album

This is a good album! Enjoyed most of the songs but it didn't exactly stand out to me

I enjoyed the first few tracks quite a bit. Fairly generic rock sound with the addition of a horn section. However, the album started losing some steam for me around Sun Hits the Sky, which I feel like is when some classic britpop tropes started to reveal themselves too much for my tastes. That being said, I am surprised Oasis was the more popular band as I enjoyed this much more than the Oasis records I've listened to. Favourite tracks: Tonight, Late in the Day, Cheapskate, Hollow Little Reign

There's a more fun alternative Brit Pop universe where the popularity of Oasis and Supergrass were reversed. This album makes total sense for its time, but feels a bit gimmicky now. I have always enjoyed Sun Hits The Sky, but some of this seems just silly now.

The Britpop comedown was pretty fucked up. This sits well alongside Pulp's This is Hardcore. The cheesy grins from the first album are replaced by a bit more beef. This is no bad thing. Mick Quinn's bass plays a bloody blinder here. Late in the Day is a lovely lull mid-album.

Not bad!

Thought it was very solid rock and roll album. Worth another listen.

I wonder how much they made?

It was ok. Not the best. Not the worst. Not really my style and not overly memorable :(

I played this album several times. I kind of liked it but I thought it a bit unexciting. It seemed to make its influences very obvious, and unlike some of this band's contemporaries, I heard a lot of them. Perhaps no bad thing, but the music didn't really grab me.

Berry 90s indie rock. I'm going to keep it on the phone so it comes up again maybe I'll get into it more

Good, some I treating bits but wouldn't go back

Although there is nothing unique about this music or album I like it. In it for weak three stars. 2,5

Brimming with enthusiastic energy, propulsive high energy songs, Brit Pop whimsy, and kitchen sink instrumentation, this is a small band making a grandiose album. Cheapskate has an acid post-Madchester dance feel to it. The rest is floating on the 3rd wave (?) of the mod rock/power pop guitar band revival cycle. It's bright and optimistic, but full of nostalgia, they do it well and it's a fun album, but nothing really stands out.

First listen It’s not bad. I can see why someone else with slightly different tastes might really love this, but do appreciate it, and with a few more listens that appreciation is likely to rise. Rather have this than the heavyweights of Brit pop oasis and blur. It has a nice overall sound, wears its influences lighter than say oasis do, 3.5 Stars.

One Supergrass album for Alright, sure, fine, there are worse choices here. But two? Why?

Rating: 6/10 Not bad...

Felt like it got better as it went on. I think I like this band more when they’re rocking out than when they’re going for an indie/pop thing. Saved a few songs and I enjoyed the album a fair amount. Didn’t blow me away but didn’t disappoint. Safe 3.

same rank as I gave Supergrass before. I enjoyed it - but I was actually partial to the end of Disc 1 and then Disc 2. Sex! is a hilarious song. I think with this album they seemed to have more fun when recording it. but overall, not a bad listen.

[insert standard 90’s Brit rock review]

I do think watching a wombat in a washing machine would be more entertaining than this but it was better than I expected. Some good guitar riffs scattered throughout but by the end of each song I had already forgotten what I just listened to. Just real whiney.

I don’t ever remember knowing this band, but the sound is super nostalgic. Couple big songs with an ok album overall. 3 stars.

I was digging it until the experimental sound became a bigger part of the composition. I enjoyed the two slower songs, Late in the Day and It’s Not Me, the most, but the upbeat tracks early on in the album were better than average. A middle of the road album if there ever was one. Good enough to keep your attention, but it had a couple drawbacks to keep it from getting top marks.

Not a bad album at all. This was pretty enjoyable with some solid songs, however, I think the top global review sums it up pretty perfectly. "NO WAY THEY HAVE TWO SUPERGRASS ALBUMS ON THIS LIST. NOBODY FUCKS WITH THEM LIKE THAT??"

Every time I hear this album I appreciate it a little bit more. Of course, I did but it the week it came out, so I’m not sure how much of a compliment that is.

Is aight

It is 90s rock, trying to achieve something that it is not. Lots of sound but does not achieve much for me. I'm not saying it's completely bad, but it isn't a classic.

This was pretty enjoyable. The singing felt very Gerard Way at times (a positive for sure). Doubt I'll listen to it again tho.

Uninspired.

Solid throwback sound.

This one had me saying, It’s Not Me.

I've been listening to so much 60s/70s rock n roll with this project that I quickly assumed this was another from that era - but after listening, it's absolutely a 90s rock/alt/grunge album. I actually became aware of Supergrass in the 90s, right around when their first album was released - because, again, they had a song on the Clueless soundtrack. Turns out that soundtrack was extremely influential to music listening in my Tweens. This record grew on me more after a couple listens. After the first I wasn't really catching a vibe. I'm just a pop girly, and this was loud and eclectic. But there were some catchy moments in here, which brought me around.

it's ok but can we move on from supergrass now, please?

Better britpop than any Oasis or Blur that I’ve listened to so far. Nice variety of sounds.

Cool, rock et compagnie sur la turf

Not too bad, a couple of bangers but otherwise pretty mid.

First track is so good. Such a good kick off. First 5 songs very strong, then it completely loses its way. Second half is dull

The album had a good sound, but most songs blended into one another for me.

Very much the Britpop hipster choice, which I probably unfairly judge them for but certainly no reason for them to be on this list twice. That said, although my heart sank when I saw this one appear, there's some very good tracks here - "Late in the Day", "Going Out"............ Should probably be 4 stars, but unfairly I'm only giving 3 because of my own pre-biased. Sorry.

The band delivers a tight set of poppy rock and roll songs that are strong on melodies, harmonies and hooks. The Beatles are an obvious reference point, but the singer often sounds like Billy Corgan, which is not a positive association. The song “Cheapskate” kind of encapsulates how I feel about this record: Built on a terrific Stevie Wonder-esque funk groove, it erupts into an overly dramatic chorus that makes me think these guys may be responsible for a generation of anthemic alt-rock shouters. It’s well played and produced, and it has some very good individual songs, but it ultimately feels like a phase of life one outgrows.

Fun listen!

This is a decent British rock album. Whether these guys are British or not, I really don’t know. This is a middle of the road rock album though. It’s good but it doesn’t have any “return to me” tracks, at least not yet. We are writing as we go folks. Well, it is done and I’m just blah. It’s doesn’t push the need to listen to them for me but I’m not pushed away by the sound. I’d listen to another album Choice cut: Sun Hits the Sky

I remember when "Cheapskate" briefly surfaced on alt-rock radio in North America; it was a neat enough song but not enough to convince me to buy the album at the time. Listening to it for the first time now, I think that was probably the right call; it's not bad at all, it's just pretty straightforward and doesn't do a ton to distinguish itself. I've already forgotten the first half of the album, but there are a few songs in the second half that did catch my ear at least.

Gutes Album Big surprise 🫢 ich dachte es wär mal wieder bisschen Recycling, aber viele Tracks gingen gut ab und waren auch catchier als sies sein sollten

not bad

I wanted to like this more than I did; seems it just wasn't able to connect with me. Music is good. Lyrics are good. Voice is ok, but something seems to be missing and it felt more like just passing time than enjoying it.

Pretty decent 90s pop-rock, but not particularly notable.

Ehrlich and all of this week's homework for you when you're done I'm sure you have the advantage to get the best birthday gift from your friends made by writer artist deserves their attention to government

interesting but not for me

There were some interesting tunes

-not too shabby. I was somehow expecting something different when I looked at the album cover el oh el… it was a sort of interesting blend between Britpop and miscellaneous 90s rock. I did really like the vocals and it had some great tracks so I’m not complaining! plus it was my birthday -Favorites are In It For The Money, G-Song, and Cheapskate

I thought the second half of the album was so much better than the first

Another one that’s ok but not really grabbing me or standing out.

Jees brittirokkia. Joistain kappaleista tulee tietenkin sit Oasis vähän mieleen. Pidempi levy, mutta kappaleet on monipuolisia ja vaihtelevia niin ei yhtään paha kuunneltava. Parhaat: Sitting Up Straight, G-Song, Wait For The Sun

It was okay. Surprised to see it on this list.

Kind of fun!

Never heard of these guys... I expected it to be bluegrass, but it is definitely not, it sounds like 90s alternative rock, the vocals remind me a little bit of Billy Corgan when he yells. I guess it's technically britpop? In the same vein as Oasis, I don't hate it, definitely some solid songs, but I don't love it.

Meh. 3/5

I lived in Oxford at the time they got big and you would see them in pubs and kebab shops a lot. Nice guys but this does not deserve to be on the list. It’s good but not as good as the debut and it makes no sense at all for it to be here

Yeah, I remember Supergrass. They were fine. They still are. Fine. I read the justifications for being on the list from NME and Q, but I still don’t get it. This is fine, but not something I needed to hear before I could hear nought but the angels’ singing.

3 из 5. Бодренький рок альбом, мне в целом такое нравится, но на постоянке его слушать как то не очень. Какой-то никелодион

Not bad, not great.

Big fan of Supergrass! Not the album I would have picked but nice to hear this again after so many years. Amazing singles, some forgettable deep cuts though

One of those bands where I've enjoyed every single but never listened to a whole album. Glad to rectify that. Need a few more listens to gauge how much I like it. Feels like a grower.

Loved the guitar solos

close to 4 star, but not quite. my type of music but not the best of its genre. will want to listen to more albums from then, since i was only familiar with singles before

the 90s, what a time. enjoyed this but not at all convinced it's an album you need to listen to before you die

This is the second Supergrass album I've reviewed on this generator. These guys are your typical 90's alt rock/britpop fare, similar to Oasis, The Verve, or The Strokes. This wasn't a bad album, but I could have done without the second disc which was loaded with B-Sides from their first album, I Should Coco, as well as a few from this album. This second disc really drug the rest of the album as a whole down, because none of the songs on the second disc were anything spectacular, and all it did was make the playtime on this record about 30 mins too long. My rating for just the first disc would be a 4, but because of this shitty second disc, it drops to a 2.5 - 3. Favourite songs: G-Song, Sex!, Sitting Up Straight, Sun Hits The Sky, In It For The Money, Going Out, Richard III Least favourite songs: Caught By The Fuzz, It's Not Me 3/5

Here’s hoping they made a lot of money.

Britpop, what else is there to say. It's not offensive, but not very good either.

Some 4-star songs. Lots of 3-star songs. 3.25 seems about right.

Once I got past the Billy Corgan-esque vocals I could find some grooves to enjoy. It kept teetering into a four star album for me, but something was holding it back. Side note: doesn’t that one song sound a lot like Danny California by the RHCP?

I thought In It For The Money took a while to get going, but hits its stride in the middle of the album and turns out to be decent. Sun Hits The Sky is where it kicks into gear, Going Out is my favourite of the lot, it's not remarkable but it's better than some of the other 90s Britpop stuff we've been served, gets a 3.

Liked this a lot more than the other Supergrass album we had - doesn't have a standout single really, but it's decent all the way through. A good trip back to the 90s, still sounds relatively fresh compared to plenty of the other stuff we've had/ A solid 3/5.

Pretty decent. Very British sounding of that era. I didn't recognize any songs but I still enjoyed the album.

This is fine brit rock! I didn't hear anything amazing, although it didn't sound SUPER 90's so points for that??

Didn't hate it, didn't love it 3/5

Not too bad.

It's fine. Musical is good. Just not working for me.

Not what I was expecting at all, it was solid

It was fine. 3.

# Playlist track - Sun Hits The Sky # Notes - Listened to this a couple of times to make sure. Not once I caught myself wanting to learn more, or add a track to my playlists. - It's a fine album, sure. It's also not memorable. - Interesting how many people praise this in terms of life in the UK. That might make sense. But honestly, it's not a great album for folks literally everywhere else.

surprised i've never heard this one but there's a pretty interesting mix of sounds and influences on it but nothing really groundbreaking

Hadn't been exposed to these guys - looks and sounds very British. Nice sound, though. Better than Oasis... ;)

Highlights:Tonight, G-Song, Sun hits the sky, Going out, You can see me -I really like the use of trumpets on some of the songs -I like how experimental the album is -The vocal effects give the album a somewhat eerie feel, which can be really hit or miss -The drumming is very cool -A little above average album I would say, doesn't really have anything to make it REALLY stand out Rating:6/10

skemmtilegt. aðra umferð. 3,5.

Album with ups and downs. Won't go there again

Has its moments

They annoy me for some reason

Not bad.. just not geat for me.

ein paar schöne Sachen dabei

Enjoyable but not great. Except for Sun Hits The Sky, which is.

2nd supergrass album???? We’re they so influential to the canon of music??? FFS a double album at that!

kannski grofur a fyrri supergrass domnum en þetta er allt i lagi

More hits that I remembered. Great album with a lot of variety and great production.

Don’t have much to say about it honestly apart from it being a pleasant listen with two great songs. Loved the title track and Richard III, the rest blended together as the album went on.

I think this is a good britpop album, though britpop is not my prefered genre. I don't like the closer, but pretty much like the rest. 3.5 stars

Good, but I don't think it's anything I haven't heard done better elsewhere. "Richard III" and "Cheapskate" are probably my favorites. Feels like a 3.5. Enjoyable, but probably nothing I'd ever go back to.

Pretty solid album, plenty of decent tunes and lush textures and arrangements. The title track makes for a quite an epic opener until it just ends abruptly. Sun Hits The Sky and Richard III stand out as the most supreme songs in terms of catchiness and quality and there are a couple more that nearly match it but there isn’t quite a heavy hitter that I can put alongside Alright or Moving as true classics. Lots of cool synthy tones that weave well with the music but overall this bunch of songs just aren’t the most compelling. Circusy closer Sometimes I Make You Sad is kinda crappy. Album art is excellent.

Mediocre Britpop. Okay as background noice in a pub.

Me fait beaucoup penser à Oasis. La guitare est souvent mise de l'avant. OK

Very strange. Sometimes good. Sometimes bad. The last song was awful clown music. Its like if you took a bunch of genres and artists and mashed them together like potatoes. 5/10

Feel like I've been giving out a lot of 3s lately, but there have just been a lot of albums that have come up that I'm indifferent to. I don't hate this, but I don't think it's particularly special either. I probably could have died without having heard it, but it wasn't like my morning was miserable because I was listening to it. I'd probably leave it on if it came up again on Spotify.

sounds like what i thought being a teenager would be when i was a kid

It was just music playing. Vanilla Not really interesting, not really bad, not really good. Giving them a 3-star review only because they had an upright bass, and I like the word Supergrass. Wish I could still smoke it.

Britpop that owes quite a bit to the Kinks and Bowie. Pleasant.

It's not terrible, I'm a fan of certain brit-bands, but it just feels like they aren't doing anything new? Oasis tapped into a certain type of arena rock that was loud but also interesting and Blur interrogated class culture in a very specific way, but this feels like a pastiche of the Beatles filtered through the most banal parts of the 90's. I wouldn't turn it off if it was on the radio, but I'm definitely not seeking this out.

Started good but didn't keep up. The last song was awful

My first listen to this group. Fun, enjoyable listen. Not sure it was groundbreaking, but I’m glad to know about them.

I have a few of Supergrass' later albums, I prefer those Artist #802

Decent music, the variety of instruments and tempo was easy listening. Still not sure this is good enough to need to hear before I die though.

I could not always understand the lyrics but the songs were pretty good

I feel like “I Should Coco” and “In It For The Money” are out of order. “IIFTM” came out in 1997, but it sounds like a mid-90s Britpop album, looking backwards but at least being pretty tolerable for the genre. “I Should Coco” came out in 1995, but sounds forward-looking, almost a preview of the garage rock revival of the early 00s.

Richard III is a total banger. I find supergrass have a few bangers but largely just filler. Never really grabbed my attention 3.0

I don't know how memorable this album was and I don't think any song will stick with me but I enjoyed listening my way through this. 3.5/5

This didn't sound particularly special to me.

First disc was pretty enjoyable - good hooks and good energy - second disc is fairly awful...

Could not be more British. 3.5/5

Not as great as Coco, but interesting enough. 3/5

Enjoyed it

decent 3. i dunno maybe im just cooked like sometimes the shit just dont hit crazy. like it just dont hit like BOOM OH SHITT but like the music is good like its chill like ya know. i like the overall vibes but i dunno how to put it into words. i messed with that opener heavy tho. like also i think theres such a clear clear theme of what i gravitate to in these albums. its like the reduced slower burning songs and/or songs with a lot of elements being thrown around. i duno 1 in it for the money 2 its not me 3 you can see me

Thoughts before listening: More British alt rock. I do like what I've heard from Supergrass, and the few songs that made it on US college rock radio stations back in the day are really good. I'm interested to hear a full album. Review: Seems like all the songs I know from this band were on their debut album. I don't recognize any of these, but that doesn't mean its bad. They write some catchy songs with nice melodies that are played at a fast, almost punk pace. These are all things I enjoy in music. My favorite songs here are "Richard III", "Sun Hits the Sky", and "Cheapskate". 3-stars

In it for the money - cool intro, I like the horns I lost interest most of the way through, nothing super special Good enough to listen to but I wouldn't seek it out

A british rock band that I hadn't heard of before and will promptly forget, this list has lot's of albums like this. All I can say is that I heard some music.

Solid 90's alternative rock. There was nothing bad on this album, but I listened to it a few times through and nothing sunk its teeth into me. I am struggling to recall a single song this morning. I wouldn't complain if this album was playing, but I am probably not going to be seeking it out.

Verrassend enjoyable.

Prefer I should Coco but not bad.

It was alright, found it pretty unremarkable - definitely didn't need a 2nd part.

loved the title track but by the end of the record, I was pretty over it lol.

This is the type of music I like in small doses. I don't know why but I love one or two songs by a group like this but then the similar type of sound just gets to me. I really liked Richard III and It's Not Me

I get a mix of Strokes and Smashing Pumpkins vibes from them. Super fun rock music, but it went on too long. I feel like they could’ve edited this into a one disc album. I was excited about it at first but then got annoyed because it wouldn’t end. Enjoyed their overall sound though.

This was good. And I am going to add it.

Listened to it twice. Some good songs but alltogether it's just a 3 for me.

Never heard of this before. Not too bad. Not too good 2.5

Pretty nice alt rock album. Sun Hits the Sky and Cheapskate are good songs.

Nohing bad about it, but I'm not sure why it's on this list. This writer seems to be obsessed with 90s British alternative bands and it seems forced.

I really like Late in the day and Sun hits the sky

Probably more like 3.5

I almost like Late in the Day, G-Song, Hollow Little Reign

Damn, 12 year old me would have adored this! It fills that preteen desire for grunge-esque, angsty sounds, while adding something new because they’re not from Seattle. At the same time, a lot of this sounds like an oil and vinegar cocktail of Oasis and The Smashing Pumpkins, which is pleasant to my ears, but also, why am I not just listening to either Oasis or, preferably, The Smashing Pumpkins? I don’t dislike this at all, and there’s nothing bad here, but the longer this went on, the more derivative it felt. Still good, but definitely not essential, and I should’ve assumed that based on the fact that I had never heard of this album before even though I had heard of their debut a million times.

Not bad, but not that good either. Was decent to listen too, but nothing really jumped out. 3/5 Might listen again

Never heard of them before. Though nothing really stuck out for me, I do dig the use of a stand up bass. Precursor to The Happy Fits?

Pretty good, seems a little ahead of its time, but listening now makes it less "shiny" than it would have been back then.

first listen good sound, little too consistent

Decent. Would listen again

I liked this well enough, but it didn't make me feel like I've been missing anything. I have heard of them, but never really took the time to jump into an album. It seemed like a lot of the songs run together at times, which is fine, but I was surprised when I checked and I was already on the second album. Better than some 3 star albums, but it doesn't have anything that carries it like you would expect from a 4 star + album. I wish 3.5 was an option.

Good, not great album. A good example of late Brit-pop

NEVER heard of these guys before, and WOW I REALLY LIKE THIS, A LOT! it's weird and varied enough to really perk up my ears and make me feel good in all the corners of my weirdness. 3 stars for a happy surprise! I'll check more of their albums!

It was ok. Lacked the charm of their first album but I might go back and give it another try.

Wacky but quite fun

Was really enjoying the first half of this album, but I think it got a little stale in the second half. Still it had some fun songs. Fav songs: - In It For the Money - Richard III - Sun Hits the Sky

ANOTHER supergrass album... I mean they were quite big in the 90s but come on! This is better than the debut. Great deep sound, but as with so many of these albums it runs out of steam towards the end

Not awful. Not bad. Passed me by at the time. Not a must listen. 2.5

I always enjoyed whatever Supergrass brought to the (turn)table. And this album is never boring. Richard III (one of my father’s favourite pieces of rhyming slang) stands out - takes no prisoners. There are so many times when the synth sound here reminds me of mid-70’s Rick Wakeman, especially during Sun Hits The Sky & Late In The Day. There’s some great guitar (G-Song is a good example), including a lot of wah-wah (listen to Hollow Little Reign & It’s Not Me). The latter also features classy harmonies, as opposed to the grunting, which substitutes for drums on Sometimes I Make You Sad. Tonight begins a bit like a Quo song; Late In The Day opens with acoustic guitar similar to Bowie’s Space Oddity; & Cheapskate’s rhythm track is very similar to Gloria by (Van Morrison’s Them). A really good listen.

Fairly catchy brit-pop. Kind of long. It's not super repetitive but it's also not super memorable.

Thought I’d like this more than I did, but wasn’t as good as any of the Supergrass songs I already knew. Simpsons: No

I liked the sound of it, yet at the same time all of the songs were quite forgettable. I've definitely scored worse albums with a 3, but can't justify a 4 for this.

It was ok, but I was expecting it to be better. Also didn't have my favourite supergrass song on so that also made me sad

Not Bad

Richard III has to be one of my fabou Songs of all time. And the album itself is ace but there are still a few of those teenage numbers in here that didn’t even do it for me when I was a teenager so it’s far from perfect. Still, a great listen.

Better than average but couldn’t hold my interest

It wasn't bad but honestly I can't remember a single moment from when I listened to this one. I liked their first album but this one wasn't as engaging to me today Maybe someday I'll give it another chance

I wasn't really into Supergrass back in the 90s. I mean, I didn't dislike them and a couple of the tracks were pretty good. Listening back to this now for the first time in 25 years, I find myself feeling slightly more generous to them. Compared to their contemporaries, they're actually a fair bit better. The music fits together more cohesively, but it is very hard to escape from them being a 90s band. Ultimately the "samey" approach of being lead, bass, drums and occasional keyboards or synths does the listener a disservice, and while lots of these tracks make me sit up and think "Oh yeah, I remember this!" the fact I actually haven't listened to it in 25 years should tell you everything you need to know.
