Reviews (page 10 of 14)

I'd rather a 3.5, but 4 will do

Okay I’m staring to like The Cure more than when I was younger. Still not my favourite but some good, well-structured songs here

This was a really good album. The lead singers voice has a lot of character and sounds great. I loved the guitar/bass work on this too with some of the layering. The only little problem is the songs drag on just a bit too long in some cases.

So good!!

I don’t really have time to write a detailed review here, but I liked this album and would listen to it again. If half stars were a thing I think I’d give it 3.5, but since they aren’t and I’m feeling generous today I’ll round it up to 4.

I really liked the long and flowy instrumentation. Hadn't listened to an entire The Cure album prior to this; I expected it to be good and it was. Must be a precursor to shoegaze, right?

Epically sad

Great! Reminds me of college.

Favourite Song: Pictures Of You

Chill cui sleep zzz

Big fan of the overall sound/feel. Can imagine Joseph Gordon-Levitt's character in (500) Days of Summer listening to this a lot.

The height of the sad boi sound. The songs on this album really use the many synths and make such beautiful textures and is really just well crafted songs all around. No I ripping guitar, but beautiful simple guitar lines to add to the texture of the songs. Love to hear this one.

Haven't listened to The Cure in ages. Good to hear then again. Clever lyrics.

Surprised that I liked it as much as I did.

Awesome album when you're in mood for that certain sound.

I have heard the Cure but really listened this time to lyrics and music and was very impressed. Lots of favorites on this album; Homesick, Love Song were fun but a knew favorite was Lullaby but should have named Spider-Man! Very catchy and smooth. Great job and hats off it A best hit “Friday I’m in Love Again.

"Sometimes you make me feel Like I'm living at the edge of the world Like I'm living at the edge of the world It's just the way I smile, you said" (Plainsong) "You stifle me Infectious sense of Hopelessness and prayers for rain" (Prayers for rain) Madre mía, cuánto me gusta The Cure, qué vergüenza.

Really liked it. It's a really high 3. Maybe a 3.9. Ah fine I'll give it a 4.

Obscure and overdramatic effort. Just that is a very good one.

I don’t know what it is about this album but I love it. I was very put off by the length of the songs but they quickly became easy to listen to in the background as there are not a lot of words. When there is, it is haunting and exactly what I expected from the Cure from other songs and albums I’ve heard. After last weeks double disc of music, I saw 12 songs and thought this would be quick but many of them are 6-9 minutes long which rivals bands like Metallica. The standout for me was Lovesong but that’s because I’ve heard it before. I also really liked Pictures of You and Prayers for Rain but I’m going to listen to this one again and see if any others stand out. The album cover is perfect for this music. Very strange and almost Jared Leto Joker like in its presentation but it makes total sense as almost every song can be listened to while driving through the city on a rainy night looking for something that can’t be found.

This is so good, the synth and guitar make this super moody.

Probably the greatest post-punk band ever. This album has so many great singles, Pictures of You, Lovesong, Fascination Street, Disintegration, but the other tracks are also really really strong. Standouts for me are the strings on Lullaby, the guitar hook and sad lament on Untitled, the Wall of sound on Plainsong, the Thunderous drums in Closedown and their classic gothy dark sound in Deep Water and Pray for rain. I'd give this album a 9/10 but on the 5 star scale its not quite "perfection" so I must sadly round it down to a 4.

"Lovesong" is on this and I had no idea this was the original compared to the cover by 311. "Pictures Of You" was great. Good album all around. 8/10.

full of absolute bangers. got me in my bag at times 💼 4.25 stars

Never heard from start to finish, it’s a great album

The bangers are real bangers and the slow ones are really really boring.

Pretty slow but damn well made

Only know of the popular tracks from this album, so it was great to listen to a full album from an 80's band. Lots of extended jam songs towards the end of the album, did not know the Cure had songs like that! Highlights: -Plainsong -Pictures of You -Lovesong -The Same Deep Water as You -Disentigration

Very atmospheric full sound. Some iconic songs.

one of the best albums by the cure

It's time for Disintegration by the Cure for my daily listen. I've not really gotten to deep into the Cure, besides them being a big part of the music landscape. When I say landscape, I mean the music I listen to along with friends and family. I should like them a lot more. They are definitely my kind of band. So far I'm enjoying this album and how epic and moody it seems. It's almost like I've heard the whole album by osmosis. In one way or another they have left a blueprint across a lot of the music I listen to. I enjoy how this album is breathing and stretches out and gives the songs time to expand. It's been a greatest hits album so far, every song I've run into on the radio or on a soundtrack. I've not listened to this album over and over again like many similar albums. It seems very familiar though, like it's so baked into our culture I've been exposed over the years.

I like the music a lot, though his singing keeps it from being a top favorite.

A welcomed surpise. I really enjoyed the album

I like this album! The only song I recognize from it is "Lovesong," but I also enjoyed all of the ones I've never heard before. Nice, chill, a bit dark, but good background music to work to.

Some truly legendary songs on this album, especially Pictures of You. There are also a few songs that are kind of duds for me. Not my favorite listen all the way through, but the highs are very high.

Odslusaj ponovo

Great album. Strong start and a lot of great songs throughout. Great vibes from exiting the 80s.

Enjoyed it far more than I thought I would.

The ULTIMATE painful "sunny day" break-up album. When you hate her/him/them, but it's the summer and other albums simply won't do.

Good all around feel, mostly when looking to get taken over by music

Decent album, found the melodics and the heavier instruments to be the missing thing from Britpop

Solid album, need to check out their other stuff.

Super good. Very mellow rock with the stand out “Pictures Of You” Very long last couple of songs.

Have listened to this tons already during high school! Love this record. :)

More ethereal and dreamy than I was expecting. Very 80's but in a good way!

Classic 80s new wave, but with a little too much angst. I enjoy it in doses, but not a whole album with very long songs.

Didn’t get time to listen to the whole album

3.5! very vibey and i loved the way the guitar sounded. i felt like i was in a lake.

I found this album to be a little dower but also what I would describe as vibey. I could see myself sitting back in a chair and listening to this album on a rainy day.

Was not blown away but liked this. Love song is a classic

I enjoyed de triestige planten muziek

First time listening to a Cure album in full. An enjoyable listen but nothing to write home about for me. The second half of the album started to lose my attention a little but I really liked the closing track, Will likely revisit this one at some point.

It’s fine

While it has some real bangers on it, it gets a little too atmospheric and repetitive at times. I feel like it something I would put on in high school after getting ripped and just lose myself in the reverb.

Love The Cure, but this just doesn't have the weirdness that I love them for

plainsong - it sounds like a realisation especially the beat drop at the start and so ethereal but not something i would go out of my way to listen to pictures of you - definitely more my vibe. i quite like this song and i can see myself listening to it more closedown - i like the sounds lovesong - not my favourite but i like the sounds a lot especially in the chorus i feel like i want to stop but i'm going to push through because being uncomfortable is good for you last dance - i like the vibe very instrumental album lullaby - this is top 3 favourites on the album, i love the beats fascination street - straight away amazing i love the beat probs 2nd favourite prayers for rain - also quite quite good the same deep water - least fav shouldnt be that long disintegration - nice it grew on me as the song went on homesick - not for me untitled - so glad i gave this a chance bc i was gonna skip through it at the beginning. it is possibly tied as number 1 with pictures of you FINAL RATING: 1. untitled 1. pictures of you 2. fascination street 3. lullaby

Lullaby tem uma vibe difícil de descrever.

The first track stressed me out because it was so slow and so long. I don't think it's my cup of tea, honestly. I find it too slow? If that makes sense. There are a couple tracks that remind me of Caifanes (Not surprising. Same decade and I assume that they were inspired by The Cure). I don't think it's bad but I definitely don't vibe with it.

really enjoyed fascination street and prayers for rain

As I'm seeing the Cure about a week from the moment I am writing this, I was happy to find out this album was the first on the 1001 list I got exposed to. Great tracks on here, but the gloominess of the general sound is still a bit hard to appreciate (especially now it's 25 degrees celcius outside and the sun's out). Nevertheless, some of the guitar sounds I like very much, and Robert Smith's dreamy singing really fits the mood.

I like other stuff by the Cure better. Some songs here droned on.

Robert Smith is an unusual guy, and this album is spooky, dreamy, but ultimately listenable. It’s the transition from the 80’s to the ‘90’s

Never listened to a full album. I do enjoy their style but it does require you to be on a certain mood. And this is a long album!

Very gloomy, made me feel adrift. I liked how it felt cohesive and stuff but the gloomy lost feeling isnt that fun when youre trying to revise. A very cool album nonetheless

Some songs were a little disengage but overall good

Ooooooh

This album would be a lot better if it was half the length.

Honestly, kinda enjoyed it. More grooves, less quirkiness

Not my stille but I feel good

decent enough, but where are the bangers?

Kinda like a weird kind of chill; kind of like pop/electronic. Not sure if it's my thing.

Geat album. Not my favorite album by them, but still really good.

How can someone who grew up in the 1980s have never consciously listened to a Cure album? I am sure they were played in the background at some party somewhere, however my memory says I have ignored them on vinyl, tape, CD and streaming. The album was a slow build. From The Cure’s major hits I expected shorter, 1980s style pop-rock with Robert Smith’s trademark melancholy. The latter was there (more on Smith later), but the songs stretched out far beyond radio friendly length. The longer, and darker the songs got the more The Cure captured me. The moody guitar work stood out, limiting anything dated in their synth and drum sounds. They sounded like Pink Floyd mixed with The Smiths. An hour and change as usual went on too long, but the six to nine minutes gave The Cure ample time to get my ears attuned to their style. With Smith’s voice, I would hope that further listening would have the same effect as deep dives into Radiohead. As Radiohead’s music kept me intrigued, I grew accustomed to Thom Yorke’s vocals, and ultimately found him to be a heartbreaking singer in the same vein as Michael Stipe. Or…Robert Smith could go in the Morrissey direction, who I still find has annoying affectations. Another Cure record on this list would be a proper opportunity to see where I will lean, but for now a solid thumbs up to Disintegration.

Good sound, too long, especially when it's the kind of music that sounds like throwing a toaster in the bathtub. I liked the hits on the record, perhaps because I have heard them before. Robert Smith's voice never irks me, despite it being the type of voice that should. The start was more favorable then faded out for me, though I liked "Untitled"

Good stuff is good .rest is samey

My two favorite Cure tracks — “Let’s Go To Bed” and “Why Can’t I Be You?” — aren’t on this album. I like The Cure, but I had the same reaction to DISINTEGRATION in 2026 as in 1989. The album has too many songs that are the same languorous beat. The melancholy of both the lyrics and music is too much; the album could benefit from some counterbalance between the two. Not enough up-tempo tracks. Often a song takes so long to get started you start to think this one’s an instrumental. Not one of The Cure’s best by a long shot.

Slow music.

Good flow and a few good tracks.

Fav- love song 3/5

entendo o apelo e a influencia mas nao pega muito, sou time the smiths

it was ight

Strong 3 for me. Some really good songs, but others are leaning a bit too hard on aesthetic, without much substance underneath.

Need halves or quarters on these ratings. 3.25*

Good album this, very atmospheric. Maybe missing out a standout track but good background listening.

all kinda sounds the same but good for zoning out

First few songs are better than the rest but enjoyable

Definitely more of a singles girl when it comes to The Cure. The singles are bangers the rest tends to bore me a bit. It almost pains me to admit it. And this one is on the long side too

Better than I thought it would be but it’s just not for me.

Some great songs but a lot of the best of The Cure not included here, with quite a bit of less pleasant work.

Just like the last The Cure album I listened to, it's just boring. Not bad, boring.

Favourite track: Pictures Of You Ranking: 7/10

Some classic stuff here. But the Cure has never been my favorite. Something about the monotony and vibe always makes me nod off. This album does remind me a bit of G and my time back in Tucson.

Reminds me of the smiths but slower, less vocals, more background vibes

Surprising how this has mellowed over the years (it's not me it's them). Boundaries are pushed, but in a soft polite nudge, not the shove I remember!

Second time in my life listening to this album and I liked it slightly more this time. Lovesong was the standout.. I’m a tiny step closer to finding an appreciation for The Cure aside from their radio hits, but I’ll never be a diehard fan.

I get it but I just found it quite boring. There are some catchy songs and the instrumental/synth work is excellent. Don't think I would return to this one.

Nice album, thought I would have liked it more

I found myself listening to this much longer than expected. While some of the vocal sections are not to my taste, the winding instrumental sections are emotive, stirring and occasionally anthemic. Perfect for driving. 3 stars.

Some great guitar work. Solid alt rock album all the way through.

They have a distinct sound so I find all their albums very similar

Typical the Cure .. kind of melancholic, and rainy

Day 255 Highlights Pictures of You Fascination Street

Not just five albums ago I was tasked with reviewing The Cure. I had one word to summarize how I felt: meh. It was a slow, monotonous slog through the not even a 3/4 of an hour, so seeing this clock in at 75 minutes, I was filled with dread. But this album is different. Yea some of the songs are drawn out (I'm down for a 9-minute song but "The Same Deep Water as You" is so utterly repetitive and boring), but there's variety here throughout. It's still not my cup of tea, but I can give credit where credit is due: there are some great songs here.

I quite like several singles off but the experience of the whole album is Not Quite For Me

Doesn't do anything for me. Isn't bad.

Objectively good, but in the context of 1001 other albums less good.

Immediately love the guitar and vocal layering. Wasn't expecting the electronicish groovy beats and I really liked those.

people are gonna be really upset when i give this a 3... Fav Song: Prayers for Rain Least Fav: Closedown

"Lovesong" will always be one of my favorite songs. That said, I like the 311 version better. So I thank Robert Smith for coming up with it, but I do not like The Cure. That emo energy just doesn't sit well with me. But I recognize their impact and have rated this with that in mind

I'm liking this more than I expected. As I expected it is that sort of goth but not entirely. Still not quite my cup of tea but I would certainly listen again, but maybe not look for it on Spotify and probably wouldn't purchase the album. Overall I like a lot of the songs but need to be in the right mood to listen to it

Something I glad I had the opportunity to listen to and glad I did but wouldn't normally

This is on the high side for a 3, but that might be my Cure ceiling as I don't like Smith's voice, and about half of the songs on this album (especially the second half) were booooring. But I did like the melodramatic orchestral sound, especially on the punchier tunes.

His voice is too annoying all at once. Lovesong was the fave. Lullaby was at least different sounding with its whispery 2000s type angst.

Okay, I was definitely put off from the start when I saw the total running time of this album, with over 50% of the songs longer than five minutes in length. That’s a tough sell for your boy! Interestingly, though, I found my mind wandering a little more in the first half of the record (the half with the shorter songs) and I was pulled back in after hitting all the long songs in the second half. They do a good job of keeping everything pretty simple, but making the pieces interesting with this crisp production where you can hear all of the different pieces layered wonderfully. It feels like none of the long songs really build to a crescendo, which normally I can’t stand, but they slowly burn and stay consistent until their eerie vibe pulls you into the abyss. It’s fair to say that I like this more than an hour ago when I hit play. I may not quite agree with Kyle Broflovski on this album, but it was a nice listen and worth my time.

Tranquil, not much to say. I like it

It has its highlights, but I'm just not super in the mood for a slow, vibey, reverb heavy album right now. Especially not one that's over an hour long. I'll relisten someday when I think it will click with me more.

I wasn't in the right mood for this one but still liked it. Depressing in the best way

idk, i can also be sad and do the same thing repeatedly for seven minutes at a time. their production is way better though, good individual sounds for sure.

Not my tipe

In high school, I remember reading that Robert Smith was obsessed with the idea that no one ever made a great album after the age of 30 while making this one. Now, as someone who is almost 30 and has never made a great album, I guess it's too late for me! I didn't particularly care for this one at first aside from "Pictures of You", because it was so long and not particularly tuneful, in a stage of my life where mostly I was listening to 60s pop music. Over the years, I've developed a greater appreciation for the Cure, but I still prefer them at their more poppy, like The Head on the Door or Kiss Me, Kiss Me, Kiss Me. There's definitely a few songs on here that live up to that standard, but honestly high school me was kinda right? While it has its moments at times, this album really *is* way too long and not particularly tuneful. Unrelatedly, I always get the titles of "The Same Deep Water As You" and Raymond Carver's "So Much Water So Close to Home" mixed up for some reason.

Not a massive fan of the vocals on the album but I love the music

Listened to it while studying very good for helping me focus, did make me a little tired at times. Would play again and fully listen to

Overall a good album. Too dark for my taste, but enjoyable nonetheless. I don't really have too much more to say.

Not a big Cure fan, I don’t know a lot of their stuff. This was ok…found it somewhat boring though.

Found this to be a bit underwhelming to be honest. Other than Pictures of You, found it hard to think of anything memorable.

good album if you like that kind of music i guess. for me it's just to monotoneus, they keep "riding" the same chord(s) for way too long, melodies are sometimes catchy/simple/short. But I guess that's the whole appeal to this goth/new wave music. I am more an instrumental guy, but in this case, the singer does help a lot. I actually fell asleep listening to this.

This was an ok album a few songs were good

Sorry, fans of The Cure. Maybe I wasn't in the right mood for it, but I don't really see what the hype is about. The bassline on "Disintegration" was pretty cool, but nothing else really stood out to me. Probably one of those albums I'll revisit in the future and enjoy more. For now, totally average.

Im unsure of where I sit for this album. I want to like it, but I dont know if I fully do.. I think theres a drag to this album that kinda carries through everything. The lyrics drag, the beat drags, the lead singer looks like hes in drag? I have this feeling of this album hooking me along by the scruff of my neck and just dredging me along for a ride. It kinda sucks you in at the same time, into this zombie like haze as the melancholic music smuthers you as you go along. The synths though... they take it down a bit for me at times. Overpowering in their 80s glow. Leaves a bitter aftertaste that im not the biggest fan of tbh.

Meh 3*

Algunos temas me gustaron

While it has a very unique dark/meloncohlic sound with some great use of synths and many basslines being the standouts from an instrumental standpoint, it just gets too samey in a lot of areas to become memorable as a whole. His voice is certainly good, but just comes off as too overdramatic the more I listen to it, it certainly works in some songs but in others it just reminds me of a high school theater kid taking his lines too seriously. Songs also often overstay their welcome, with not much happening in these 7+ minutes that they end up in. Standouts would be Pictures of You, Disintegration, and Love song. Lyrically it's creative, but not much I could relate to personally. No song is outright "bad" though. 6/10

Trippy but fun, sounds lush

Not sure about this. Supposed to be one of their better albums. I have very positive memories of Faith (1981?) but haven’t played it for a long time. This one had some nice moody bits but didn’t grab me. I felt a bit worried for Robert Smith - singing style great for a song or two, but building a career around it? Anyway, I’ll say it’s Not Bad, 6/10.

I like their music, and I would like it even more if every song was about half as long.

For whatever reason, the sensation I have while listening to this is that I am standing in a very long, slowly moving queue.

Got this album this morning and went "ugh". I finished all 72 minutes of it and thought "not half bad". Some highlights (Pictures of You), but it's not really my musical style. Regardless, tis good, better than their poppy singles.

Not really a fan. Very moody.

The last few songs were the best

Second The Cure album in as many days. I didn't find them all that similar even though apparently this was a return to an earlier era (that the other album should've represented). I dunno this kind of thing just doesnt speak to me. The aesthetic and the sound of "goth" really dont match up, for me.

Is this what it was like to be emo before 9/11? Neat.

I like other albums by The Cure much more than this, which is seemingly their most lauded release and obviously my problem. I just find it a bit of a slog. Heard before ✅️ Listened this time ✅️ Revisit 🫳 ★★★☆☆ (6/10) Total reviewed : 254 Already owned : 59 Purchased : 14 To buy list : 2 Nope : 179

Fun hits, couldn't keep it up for a whole 1.25hrs though. Generously giving this a 3, the length is a big knock on its quality. - My expectations are not aligning with reality... why such a heavy metal name (and album cover!) - This is nice! V chill. Where do they go from this opener though? - Got dull in the middle. Seems like this album has fun hits but limited depth. Also, 1hr 12min is always going to be tough to make it worthwhile! - As expected, didn't bother finishing it because it's too long. 3 stars is generous when you account for that... but that's okay

Pictures of You

Very good - archetypal stuff.

Very rarely does a record provide such an apt name for the sound produced within, but the cure has done so masterfully. The have captured the essence of 'disintegration', I can feel myself disintegrating into the sound waves themselves as each song progresses. Some beautiful and experimental sounds but nothing that blew me away.

This is the first listen on this journey. I already knew and loved the singles on it. Still not very hooked to the album as a whole, though. I liked the way in which the keyboards bring a dark and beautiful atmosphere to the songs. Lovesong is my favourite on this one.

Not my favorite Cure record. If you are going to rank Cure records, and for giggles I will, this is middle of the pack. So, in my mind here are the records that are better than this one by the Cure: 1. 17 Seconds 2. Pornography 3. 3 Imaginary Boys 4. Faith 5. Songs of a Lost World 6. Bloodflowers 7. Disintegration If we look at Disintegration in isolation from the rest of the cure catalog, it is obvious that this is a record of 2 halves - The full on pop leaning stadium rocking first half with Lovesong, Pictures of You, and Lullaby and then the funeral dirge that is the 2nd half beginning with Fascination Street which signals the beginning of the long doom slide to the end of the record finishing with Homesick. Untitled should remain do. It really is an appendage to the album. I get that momentum for the band was gaining and that this record was a commercial peak, but it was an artistic failure as the second half comes off as overly long and meandering casting a shadow on the entire project and the excellent writing in the first half. I’m not a fan of pop Cure, but for the songs released as singles they all had the immediacy of the early singles - just poppier. So, this record should not have made this list. It’s an average mid-period record by a pretty awesome band 3/5

There's some pretty stellar music here at times, but it as a whole lacks some impact that I would have expected from a band I've heard so much about, and I'm not a fan of the vocals.

Moody, but I like it

Felt kind if samey but I appreciated it for what it is I guess. The second song had some good lyrics.

Very easy listening, but nothing stood out.

“Lovesong” is great. Can’t say the same for the rest of this album.

A little too mellow for my taste

This is a difficult one, I like everything about the Cure except for their music. Don't like his voice, don't like the big 80s production. I can imagine if you were a disaffected teen in the late 80s this would hit hard. Didn't hate it, didn't love it. It was alright

Dark, ethereal - interesting backstory.

Back to Cure albums I don’t like. Just too maudlin for me. The music is Lovesong is probably the best thing on this albums. Fascination Street has a great bass line on it, but then the singing starts and I’m out. I’m just not a big Robert Smith guy.

It was good and moody but a bit too long. I would have liked it much better at about the 50 minute mark.

moody, atmospheric, introspective goth rock. My only complaint is that all of the songs are formulaic with Smiths vocal only appearing after a 1 min + of build up: layering guitars drums and synth. All of which is nice but not on every song

very very moody. really enjoy the synths and guitar in the songs. vocals are meh but its the vibe. Plainsong was probably my favorite song. Lovesong is a classic, i knew that song before going into the album. the album cover is weird as hell, i'll give it points for uniqueness. emo new wave! 6/10.

Lovely morning rainy day stormy album its not wow me but its sweet and has some vintage undertone.

This is pretty good. I do like the Cure but this is not my favorite album. Mr. Smith turned the dial to "sad & dark" from "dark & weird" for this one and it was a little more than I was ready for. 70+ minutes of mid tempo goth without a palette cleanser is a lot. Kiss Me Kiss Me Kiss Me had a couple of 'template' songs but I find it to be a lot more fun to listen to, and nothing really compares to Staring at the Sea. 3.4

good! very much the same pace throughout, should probably give it another listen. very good for like background of life music but honestly all together front to back while good, just long and personally not all my cup of tea, some bangers though

A lot of 4 star moments but also some 2 stars. Safe middle ground

Some of the best Cure I've heard. I love their long, goth instrumentals, and even the vocals aren't so bad on this album. 3.5/5

This ain't no party. This ain't no disco. This ain't no "Friday I'm In Love".

Lotta lonnnnnng intros… but I enjoyed

Will come back to this, but the 2025 version of myself couldn’t get into it. Admittedly, this is a 3 star version of myself.

This is so crazy this is my first album suggestion…. at the moment i am currently in the process of making a video essay about the cure and ik this is their best rated album…. i have always loved the cure and have listen to this album in bits and pieces…i did start listening to this album a couple days ago but got distracted an got halfway through lol… universe you have been heard thank you

Wow, this was a long album. More instrumental than I expected because sometimes it's 2-3 minutes before the vocals start. I particularly liked Lovesong. It's a song I've heard a ton of times but never knew who sang it. Besides that, a lot of the songs on this album sounded very similar to one another.

Få klassikere der trækker karakteren op. Bestemt ikke deres bedste album. ALT for lange introer

The faster songs are brilliant, dreamy new ordery style. The slow ones are like mud.

much better than expected! quieter too. all in all pretty good. all tracks blended into one as they tend to with me, however I don’t remember any moments standing out too much to differentiate so perhaps that’s not too unfair a criticism. The end was neat. Solid 6.5/10, probably will go up with more listens.

I really like The Cure, but some of their songs are too long. I knew and/or owned a few songs on this album (Pictures of You, Lovesong, and Lullaby). I really like those songs. I would’ve enjoyed this more had the intros to many songs not been 2-3 minutes long. Just start singing already, I want to hear Robert Smith’s voice.

Very 80s whiny.

some great classics

Fine but forgettable. Only really knew about boys dont cry before this so I kinda knew what I was getting into lol

Good songs. Some better than others. But not enough to make it to a four.

The longest album I’ve ever listened to but it was good! Nice winter vibe. Faves in album order: Plainsong Closedown Lullaby Fascination Street Prayers For Rain

Repetitive sounds, good

3⭐️ I do like quite a lot of songs by the Cure but this album didn’t excite me really. I feel like the instrumental intros were loooong and the songs are long in general! but I feel like I’d prefer the Cure’s other albums (if they end up being on this list) songs I already knew: lovesong fave new song(s): pictures of you, last dance

feeling like a monster

There's a definite vibe to this album, just not sure if I like it. There are some cool songs. Lovesong is certainly more accessible than some of the other songs on this album, a great track. I also really liked Lullaby. As for the rest, they proved to be pretty similar to each other and that wasn't necessarily a great thing. It's not that it's bad, but moodiness throughout? Also, some of the songs at the end were way, way too long. Take Disintegration for example, it's got a cool riff to it, but playing it over and over again for the first 1:30 doesn't need to happen. Could have set the stage in like 30 seconds or less. It's all just a bit heavy handed for me, even if I can see where people would love this. So it's far from a 5-star album for me. Debating 3 & 4, but going with the former as this album could have easily been 45 minutes and not its bloated 1:10+.

Should probably give this another listen. I was surprised by how long a lot of these tracks were only being familiar with the singles. Overall it came across as expected.

The first part of the album is theoretically several different songs, but they all sound the same to me - masses of liquified keyboard angst with moaning emo vocals on top. Later on, the band remembers that they also have a guitar player, and start doing some songs that are a bit more different/interesting - "Fascination Street" is a heck of a groove, even at its funereal pace. It's extremely well performed and produced, and doesn't sound like anything other than itself. It's a great example of what it's trying to do, but what it's trying to do doesn't particularly interest me.

Good album, nothing crazy. 5.7/10

Intros too long

dark, eerie, trance, psychodelic, better than regueton but not my thing, lullaby is famous,

Some bangers for sure, but not their best work imo

Hört sich irgendwie alles gleich an haha

After 3 albums by The Cure, I have to conclude that their music is not for me. I like Lovesong but that's kind of it, at least of songs that I can remember having listened to once the album is done.

PICTURES OF YOU <3

Solid. A bit whining and depressing

Not bad, just kind of dad rock. None of their top songs though

Not their best album in my opinion but littered with great tracks nevertheless

Admittedly I wasn't listening super hard to this one, but I came away from it feeling about the same as I did on my first listen. It's good, not really much more. I like the gothic rock thing a lot, but I definitely prefer Joy Division when it comes to that stuff, but this was good too. I think it gets better as it goes, but its pretty strong throughout I'd say. Favorites: Lovesong, Prayers for Rain, Homesick

Actually a pretty decent album, less whiny than some of the other stuff from The Cure. I'll still probably never listen again.

The beginning sounds like the intro to the movie Labyrinth, and I like it. Very late 80s in vibe. I don't think I knew that Lovesong was The Cure, though I've heard it a million times. I like the intro to Lullaby, it's funky. A little too instrumental, less vocals, lots of synth. I like Disintegration as a song.

7/10 lullaby and love song have always been my favs but im sad the album didn’t do it for me

Sweeping atmospheric soundscapes, lyrics that could be written by a sixth former. I can see why people love this album, but I'm too old and jaded to fall for it.

some slow starts but so much emotion and care into the album

it was nice but maybe my mood was a big part of why i wasn’t enjoying it as much

fun and poppy but ultimately not that memorable for me. 6/10

First album of 2026! Very instrumental, reminds me so much of a montage of Stranger Things. Fave Song From the Album: Pictures of You

Will someone give me the cure to this sadness

I like it, it’s a very gothic calm sort of album I’ll definitely listen to it again. I really liked the song “pictures of you” from this album

Good album. Like the vibe even though a bit samey/too long. Would have given 3.5 stars.

It's easy to see what makes this album fascinating to listeners. The production is great, and the floating feeling of the instrumentation is pretty neat. That being said, this album as a whole doesn't really leave too much of an impression on me. I find it too indulgent and drawn out. I appreciate the unique sound of this album, but it’s not something I feel compelled to return to.

I'm a big enough music fan to appreciate the music on here and enjoy it, I don't think I'm emo enough to love it

like a 3.5 i think its good and i would definitely listen to it as background music but other than that i probably wouldnt ever turn it on. the lack of lyrics for 75% of all the songs makes it a little boring honestly. the instrumentals are good but i tend to listen to music that i can sing along to.

A moody, heartfelt record with soundscapes that helped to define the 80s. It does feel a bit tired as the record goes on, though. Personally, I could use more hooks. Also, Pictures of You >>>> Lovesong

No matter how much I try to bask in the gloomy beauty of The Cure, Robert Smith just isn't interesting to me. Perhaps that's part of the deal as well as the appeal: to be goth is to despair of ennui rather than trauma or tragedy, i.e., to go to the mall and feel the oppression of boredom and averageness. And I have to admire the band for their unqualified sincerity/romantic stains - 'There was nothing in the world / That I ever wanted more / Than to feel you deep in my heart'; 'However far away / I will always love you / However long I stay / I will always love you.' No, I don't hate this, and I concede that 'Pictures of You' is a memorable (tho not glorious) single, but I am mostly underwhelmed and informally depressed. I just don't feel 'got' - you got it?

first go. liked the first half a lot and found the second half less interesting. very beautiful either way though. three and a half

Pretty good. I enjoyed the tracks that did not have Robert Smith more than the ones that did.

Haha im gonna continue being critical of albums because this list is mostly full of really good ones! I never liked this album but this time when i listened to it i feel like i understood it more. I’m coming around on gothic rock. I like the song with the synth that goes ‘do reee mi, do reee mi, do reeee mi sollll fa mi do’ its one of the first four i think track three its not lovesong

Favorite Track: Lovesong

The latter half of the album feels like a 25 minute outro. The first half is absolutely brilliant.

I already had listened to a few The Cure songs (Boys Don’t Cry, Let’s Go to Bed), so I’m somewhat familiar with them ish. Plainsong - long instrumental beginning, dreamy and a bit whimsical lol Pictures of you - also very long song, still enjoyable and a little groovy, I feel like it could be in an 80s teen romcom movie or smth Closedown - long intro lol, dramatic, the deeper percussion is a nice touch Love song - I like how it’s more upbeat compared to the other songs, the little guitar riffs are sick af Last dance - sounds a bit similar to the other songs a lil bit 🤷‍♀️ Lullaby - I had listened to this song so lowkey biased but I really like this one :P, the strings and the plucking in the background is a really nice touch, also Spider-Man Fascination street - sounds like lullaby but more hardcore 🤘, I like the percussions pauses to let the guitar have a moment, just overall enjoyable Prayers for rain - kinda reminds me of Prince idk why, a lot slower, nice break from the faster songs The same deep water as you - a bit similar to prayers for rain, REALLLLY long but still sounds good, melodramatic kinda Disintegration - also sounds a bit like of the other upbeat songs a little bit Homesick - the chords are nice, dramatic in a way Untitled - ok accordion, still a bit similar but the accordion was a nice surprise #accordion OVERALL: the songs were verrrrryyyy long with long instrumental intros, which sometimes went for a bit too long, but I rlly liked the tone and vibe, very 80s obvi with a little mystery and spookiness sprinkled in. ⭐️⭐️⭐️.5 / 5

This album is mostly a roller coaster. Songs that take you on an imaginative journey and others that don't move you anywhere. Some songs like "Lovesong" and "Lullaby" were already songs I liked beforehand. Unfortunately through the full listen no other songs really stuck out.

I liked the first 5 songs but the rest is not my cup of tea

Hmm fantastically produced, wonderfully melodic and almost morose, quite a few great songs, but I got kinda bored and tired of most of the rest. Strong 3.5

The hits are great and it ends really strong, but I found a decent amount of this shockingly mild after having such a great impression of the cure since childhood

Previously rated: #171 - Pornography (2/5) #319 - Seventeen Seconds (2/5) ************************************* Album #991 Big and grandiose sounding. Lots of just instrumental stuff. I definitely liked it more than the other two. Lovesong is great.

Not as dark as Pornography, but still quiet dark. Some moments I liked, some don't. The main problem for me was the song lenght. Do people really enjoy music that repetetive or I have ADHD? When I've listened to "Untitled", which I liked most on this album, I almost wanted to give it a 4, until I thought about that I had to sit through this album for whole hour to get to it.

THE Cure album I think of

It was OK, not amazing or standout in any particular way, which may be a sign of the times.

Honestly pretty boring to me. I like all their other albums though. I'm seeing them next year in June so hopefully that changes my opinion. I think it might take a few listens :)

It was fine. Edgy, sad, and nice on a good portion of it.

starting to really fw the cure

More enjoyable than the previous Cure project but not enough to do all that much for me.

We just had one of their albums a couple of weeks ago and I said I like them more as a singles band. Still holds true but I like this one better

s'alreet

Tried a few times and just didn’t like this as much as I hoped I would. It is dark and atmospheric which I enjoyed but I just kept waiting for something to grab my interest. Definitely dragged on too long at points. Don’t hate it but I liked their earlier albums a bit more.

I'm just not mopey enough for The Cure. 🤷🏻‍♀️ I can definitely hear why it is significant, how it's been influential... but I just don't connect with it as a listener. That's the beauty of music, there's plenty of good stuff out there but absolutely NOTHING that appeals to everyone!

Best to the 80s goths. This was decent but not spectacular

I’ve listened to this album before and found it long and dull…in some ways I still do but enjoyed it more this time around. “Pictures of You” and “Lovesong” are top Cure tracks for me, but idk their catalogue that well to say. It’s a band whose sound and sonic imprint I appreciate more than their songs. Title track is a really stupid song imo, and some of it really begins to feel like a dirge. But if you’re in the mood for reverb and gloom, this it’s good stuff.

I thought this a solid album, first time listening to a full Cure record. I get it. Good stuff

Looks like a lot of people love this album but I just don't see it. The music is good and there is lots to appreciate here but, at least to me, it's not the end all be all magnum opus of mankind that some other reviewers here would have you believe.

I was not in the mood for this album. I might revisit, but compared to Siouxsie in the same vein ol' Rob just seemed whiny today.

hey that’s pretty good

This one definitely had an atmosphere to it. Felt right walking around in the cold gloom of today. The style definitely helped with the musical interludes. I don't think it works as well otherwise. Really struggling on whether this was a 3 vs 4 but I just don't think it stood out enough for me.

Liker viben, en del fete låter

Chillern, melankolsk rock. Men ja, chill

good album. Lovesong, Pictures of you, Lullaby all hits but the title track and The Same Deep Water as you were all bangers.

I will always love you

I know all the Cure hits, and I like them. Probably never listened to an album all the way through. It's all very much in keeping with the rock/synth/gloom sound. Pretty good, I'm not over the moon about it, but it's good. Side notes: "Fascination Street" kicks monster ass. I did not anticipate something on this album to rock so hard.

I wasn’t in the mood for moody music, I did like some of the songs though, the radio hit kind of annoyed me cause it’s so overplayed. Maybe the next cute album will find me in the right mood

It's pretty good

Good but the cure is so whiny

Never been a fan of The Cure, but they’re good in bite sized portions. The dreamy atmosphere of this album appeals to me. I particularly liked Last Dance and Lullaby. The album is a little too long though. 3/5

I was never a huge fan of the Cure, but I have to say this is a decent album

3 out of 5 (Maybe a 2.5 in reality if I could), I am very lukewarm to this. I kind of like some of the jangley twanging around but overall it's not my bag. It does not connect for me. I get boring depressed 80's teenager vibes. Maybe I would feel different if it was a record I grew up with, but I can't relate. Personal opinion it doesn't hold up today but at the same time it's pretty inoffensive. Maybe it influenced better music that came from those scenes later, I felt like I heard a bit of the Smiths and maybe even Stone Roses buried in it, so perhaps they were influenced by it, which is a good thing.

This is true sad boy music. I’m feeling sad boy so I liked it.

Kinda of the same song for an hour

It's ok. I get why there is a niche of people who consider this their thing and through that, consider this to be the greatest music ever recorded. However, it's not for me, and it's a 3/5

mope rock

I'm not typically a big goth-rock fan, but it did take me 5 tracks to realize that's what this is. There's some really good instrumental sections, some classic lyrics, overall it's a pretty impressive piece of work even if it's not what I'd rather be listening to. I'll add some points because this is where Lovesong comes from, I'll dock the same points because Robert Smiths' vocals don't mesh with me. 2.7/5

Felt like a poser listening to this. Fine, but a bit dreary. Didn't even get cured of anything </3

Back to the UK! Seems like good moody background music. I know Lovesong from Adele’s cover and honestly I prefer the emphasis she puts on it, the original is a bit bland. Disintegration is probably my least favorite track, the vocals have a whine-y quality that gets tiresome over 7 minutes. Overall, I was bored with this one and the sameness of the tracks started to bother me. 2.5/5

Nel complesso non male come album

Nice to have in the background as a mental breakdown music

i have really tried liking the cure. kind of like i've tried with echo and the bunnymen but i just can't do it captain. its very mellow and stuff

Never been a fan of them. Decent album. Probably wouldn’t listen to all of it again

liked songs: Lovesong, Fascination Street, Prayers for Rain Good 3.5

*Ephemeral *Some songs were just drawn out too long *cool effects with new wave feel

decent

It started off really well, had a few big songs too. But then it went on for too long and the songs got whiny 3 ⭐️

Really enjoyed the gloomy rock. Near the end it had stayed too much in the same bounds for me and so faded a bit.

Really liked this, but it's so low energy. For me that sort of means it can only be background music or I switch off. I think that caps it at a 3.

so badly want to like this but it puts me to sleep

Didnt remember much, lush drum sounds and fun guitar loops.

Gostei! Algumas músicas sensacionais
