Reviews (page 12 of 14)
I don’t listen to Rap/Hip hop, I’m out of my depth. Some of the music was cool but was very repetitive and the rapping gets overwhelming quick
good album, awful person.
Toisaalta tavallaan ehkä ymmärrän miksi levy on listalla. Samalla kova huoli Biancasta.
Vihdoin sain tietää mistä yksi hyvä spinningtunnin biisi on, siitä lisäpiste. Pari hyvää biisiä, jos tietoisesti unohtaa itse Kanyen sekoilut vuosien varrella. Vähän outo levy.
Vahinkoarvio :)
Kanye moment. It has POWER so that's why it's here. It's fine, but nothing particularly standout otherwise. I just don't like rap I guess.
If we could rate his music only we would give it a 5. But he is about the worst person alive, which is really saying something. I often wonder would his music be so good if he weren't so crazy?
At best, there were some zinger lines. Some auto-tuned basic lyrics, unoriginal melodies, and nothing that I see deserves to be on this list. The "best" song was only my favorite because it had more talented artists included.
I am not the target audience for this, and I'm not convinced there is a target audience for this. I think the dude just did his own thing and doesn't care what others think, so props for that. But also, yeah, I won't be listening to this again.
Power is good. Didnt like much more than that.
Silloin ei kanye ollut näin hullu, köpö kuitenkin. Kyllä tämän kerran kuuuntelee. Narsistinen paska se silti on.
most overrated album of all time probably dark fantasy, devil in a new dress and runaway are the only good songs the rest is the type of shit drake would get clowned on if hed written it
Second Kanye album from the generator and I'm starting to realize all the music dudes online lied about this album being one of the best albums of all time. It's not even one of the best rap albums of all time. The samples on some songs were really cool but the rest was meh. If it wasn't Kanye, the album would've been cooler but sadly it is him 2/5
Hard to listen to with his current public persona. Impossible to seperate art from the artist with songs like runaway ☠️
15 years ago I would have rated this 5 stars. Truly is a work of art. However, being unable to separate the art from the artist, MBDTF gets two stars. A star was added to the rating to take into account the artistry of the album, but Ye’s past work doesn’t get a pass from me for his hurtful and idiotic comments today.
Kanye West-My Dark Twisted Fantasy Incredibly underwhelming album. Wonderful production and technical aspects but the lyrics are trite and often insipid and Kanye is an incredibly monotonous rapper.
Overraskede egentligt positivt ved at være mere melodisk end forventet. Men albummet var for langt.
Not my thing really but appreciate the craft and the production quality. However, Kanye is a dick, to say the least.
Love him or hate him, the dude can turn a phrase. The problem is that the songs are covering the same ole boring hip hop stories we've all heard countless times. While I personally get no enjoyment out of hearing people drop bars, no matter how good they are at it, I do respect that he has a good ear for catchy instrumentals and song structures. I would never choose to listen to this album, but I can easily understand why those who love this genre would. So, it makes sense that this would be included. As an aside, the thing I find the funniest about him is that people seem surprised by his behaviors. Particularly recent hijinks but he always seemed to be that kind of trail mix where you never knew what you were going to get. In his early years, I think that people just kept looking past his extreme behavior because they assumed they were just calculated publicity and marketing stunts to generate awareness and interest in his music. On the other hand maybe they always were?
Innehåller ju flera av hitsen, men av princip så blir det lägre rating
Maaaaaan, idk. Maybe I could get into an earlier album more. A lot of other artists featured on here and they were great. Rick Ross was INCREDIBLE. Had some standout lines that will definitely make it into my regular usage. “I wear my pride on my sleeve like a bracelet If God had an iPod, I'd be on his playlist” “Cause you haters got PhDs Y'all just some major haters and some math minors“ “I call you bitch for short”— “you call me asshole for long”
This is now the second of this style of hip-hop on this journey I've gone through. It seems to be very similar in that it's "triumphant" with some hints of soul. Reminds me of that late 2000s/early 2010 sound. It isn't for me especially how cocky Kanye is.
That’s an hour and two minutes too much of Kanye. Lots of F’-ing and N’-ering throughout, no surprise there. Significantly better than The College Dropout, but he’s still a jackass, no surprise there either, and a little further up his own ass than earlier in his career. Best track is All Of The Lights. Highest I can go is (2.3*s) His rhymin’ is still ridiculous, but maybe now he realizes that…
Kanye steps it up on this release compared to his debut. The man got beats and the package did sellll, but delivery be weaker than the US Maillll...huuuuh? At least this DB got somewhat real and is "So Appalled" with his ridiculous (dickless, dickless, dickless) lifestyle after the fortune/fame and tells women to "Runaway" cause he is a "Monster" (Top Track). Glad the skits were cut from this record and having Chris Rock cameo was a highlight. Need to be careful of artists with album titles such as this one. They are coming out of the woodworks with twisted, dark secret lives. I expect to see Mr. West on this list again amongst others (Epstein). "Who Will Survive America?" These days, I really don't know but be careful what Yeezy teaches you...2.35 stars.
Not as good as the prior Kanye entry. He's got some clever lyrics sprinkled in here and there, but otherwise MBDTF did little to keep me interested. The highlight of this album was Monster, and specifically Nicki Minaj's segment. Beyond this song nothing really stuck with me. Perhaps his schtick had mostly worn off by this point in his career? 2.04 stars
Largely forgettable
Good but I wouldn’t go out of my way to listen to again. Plus, he’s a horrible person.
I tried putting off, listening to this album as I could, bit the bullet and listened to to it. It was not as bad as I anticipated it would be; however not my kind of music; I am not asking for a refund today.
I’m conflicted. Definitely like some of the songs but I just can’t get behind Kanye now that he’s a crazy trump supporter
4/10 I must be as soft as lily white marshmallow, ready to melt in the salty rain of my liberal tears, but the lyrics are horrendous! It's porn, not art. What on earth do they say that is of any value? I mean, not everything has to be Dylan, but hell, this stuff is just filthy. Musically I was pleasantly surprised. Ok, so it is kind of 1 idea, tweak it once and that'll be another song done, but it was alright. But jeez, those lyrics are disgusting.
I don’t like the man. That said, there were parts of the album I enjoyed.
Ég vissi auðvitað að ég væri að fara að hlusta á rappplötu og bjóst við að þurfa að þrauka þessa en hún var bara allt í lagi og vann á alveg þar til Kanye tók Iron Man söngstefið í lagi un klámstjörnuást. Þá hrundi allt álitið sem var búið að byggjast upp.
Who can listen to Kanye anymore?
Didn’t listen bc I can’t stand Kanye as a human
Despite liking some of these, they're all mostly terrible
Musically catchy and some great lyrics.
Not for me
Self indulgent to a fault. Album and songs are not tight. Cutting out some of the fluff would make this a much better listening experience. Gotta give credit to the strong production and guest appearances though. I did think the black balls and fish dicks lines were pretty funny though. 2.5, not a big fan but production was worth listening to. I get why its on the list. I round down. 1=Crap that shouldn't be here 2=I didn't like it but get why it's here 3=I thought it was ok or even like it, get why it's here, but won't revisit 4=I like it, will revisit 5=This is some of the best music I've ever heard and will continue listening to it
"Nazi" "Nicki" and "Minaj" being some of the top keywords explains everything
Ist nicht meins
TJ music
Not as good as I thought it would be
Ok. I can see why it is rated it still feels innovative in use of samples and the music but the lyrical content is same old.
Didn’t mind it, just not my thing. Feel alike a lot of the lyrics and designed more to shock than convey a point or perspective. Won’t be listening again
As someone who doesn't care a lot about hip-hop pretty much all I know about this guy is that he either is an actual fucking nazi, or thinks it's cool to adopt a nazi image for shock value, but also makes the best music in the genre by miles and people generally hate to love him. After listening to this album, I sort of get it? This is fantastically produced and sure might be as good as hip-hop gets, and if I enjoyed this sort of thing more it'd have to be an easy 5. But alas, it still just isn't my cup of tea, so I don't even have to worry about separating the art from the artist when I give this idiot a low score.
Alright I knew it was coming, I’ve never listened to it, here we go. First song is pretty good, gorgeous is atrocious. Power has a good chorus, the rest of the song is so boring. All of the lights interlude is really swell, loved that, but all of the lights the real song? Another good chorus ruined by the rest of the song, what the hell is that drum throughout the whole thing? Monster continues the trend of just a horrible song. So bad. You ever had sex with a pharaoh???? Only enjoyable part of so appalled was that I realized Kendrick interpolates it on Hiiipower, a far superior song. Devil was a great instrumental but a boring song. Don’t get me started on Runaway, if I ever have to hear one of my students play an E on a piano ever again I’m quitting. Hell of a life interpolates iron man? And then what is this butchering of Avril 14???? Blame game is the worst song on here I did not need to hear one of my favorite songs of all time with Kanye talking about choking a woman and then Chris Rock talking about new parts of the pussy over it. This Bon Iver track is really good though. Who will survive in America kinda caps it off nicely. I cannot fathom why most people think this is a 10/10 masterpiece of an album. Forget Kanye being a Nazi, that’s its own shit but this album made me so angry. People have been yelling at Fantano for years over giving this album a 6/10, that’s like 2 too high. I’m glad it inspired a generation or whatever, it sounds like shit on first listen in 2025. How is this my brothers favorite album. At least a lot of the lyrics are really funny and the production is incredible (except for that drum on all of the lights) I have to agree with Mr Fantano that this album probably rules if you care about Kanye lore and have been following and heavily invested in his personal life but that is not me
Joa
Second Kanye album for me. Just as mediocre as the first one. No idea why this guy is considered a legend.
I've never listened to a Kanye album. At this point, I have too many opinions about the man to appreciate his music. As an old white man, I can't have too much to say about this anyway. I've never appreciated what sounds to me like misogyny. I did appreciate the King Crimson sample on "Power".
Fantano is right. It's not that good. And if you think it's one of the best of all time that's fine. I'll just know your in the cult. Kanye has always been a strange one to me. He's massively influential and that's where my love for him starts and ends. He is my favorite artists favorite artist and I'll always be grateful for that but I just don't like 90% of what he does. There are some brilliant moments here and there but before you know it is on some bullshit again. Like on the 2nd song why are all the vocals slathered in some shitty filter. Why do we need that? But then runaway comes on and it's a perfect song. I don't understand. And in the year of our lord 2025 I don't understand how people can still live in this cult of personality. He's not a good guy but then again I don't think any celebrity is good really anyway. But he's a mentally ill man who we point cameras at 24/7 and then laugh at the insanity. It does really suck. Kanye isn't great but Kanye is Kanye and that's kinda it.
This is, I feel, the moment that Kanye's true colors showed in his music - if they didn't even show sooner. The beats are produced well, of course, but you only need to listen to a few songs before you realize that the mastermind behind it is a sex pest obsessed with garnering attention. I wish I could give it lower than a 2, but that's the awful truth of it: the music -is- good.
The first half was honestly so good. Power is such a banger. But the back half of the album had so much misogyny that no beat could pull me back and make me enjoy the album.
Definitely using a private session for this....individual. A challenge to separate the art from the artist. Uncomfortable use of the N word and a lot of misogyny , music isn't off putting, but everything else is. I can't.
Some ok
Argh. This album actually isn’t bad for hiphop, and has almost none of the aversive sound effects that usually put me off, but I can’t quite get past the pornographic cover art and all the artist’s hate speech to let it have a 3.
Another album that I tried several times but just couldn’t get into despite all the “special guests” Of course we all now know Kanye is a total bellend which doesn’t help!
Took a listen but not able to call myself a fan!
Não gosto de rap/hip hop. Em todo o caso, no álbum há uma ou duas canções aceitáveis de se ouvir.
It takes a truly unique talent to take the riff/melody of Black Sabbath’s Iron Man and turn it into a song as shit as Hell Of A Life. In 2010 streaming hadn’t become dominant yet, so there’s a lot of filler to make that CD seem value for money. There are good bits, but they are like needles in a haystack of auto-tuned self-pity and keyboard trumpet noises
Had some good songs but so much of this is him talking about how great he is. Stand-out: Lost in the World
Hard to listen to in light of recent events.
Not a fan of RNB and hip-hop still.
Beats good, dislike the lyrics
Dude. “Pussy and religion is all I need” is such a sad lyric. I did not enjoy this album, possibly because of who Kanye has revealed himself to be over time. Big ick
Trying to separate the art from the artist here... It's a little difficult, and I can't honestly say that I am without bias here... That being said, I do not understand why this album gets the automatic 5/5 "best album" treatment. I can see some of the interesting pieces, the flow is pretty solid throughout. But some of the tracks are of a maximalism style that I just don't love, and I'm shocked to see how many people don't share that opinion. Also, a lot of the lyrics in this album are very corny. There is a constant argument I hear floating around hip-hop circles about lyricism vs rapping ability, and I feel like this album is an amazing example that an artist's flow is at least 75% of the success of an album. Kanye has good flow. He's a real piece of shit, and he spends a sizable amount of time on this album complaining about how hard it is to be him, all the people against him, etc. etc. And yes, in 2010, I thought, the African American from Chicago, making it big in the music industry probably did have a lot of enemies, hating him, for no real reason... But now, looking back with 2025 eyes, he was always a real egotistical asshole, so those who hated him in the industry probably did for a good reason. Separated art from Artist I'd be hard pressed to give this a 3/5. Without separation, this is a 1/5. Kanye needs to get some help. I'll rate it 2/5. It'll get plenty of 1s for those who can't separate, and I understand that. It'll get plenty of 5s for those who enjoy the beat style, and don't hear lines like "If you don't really care middle finger in the air if you don't really care it's like that sometime man ridiculous. life can be sometimes ridiculous." as whack.
He’s a very sick individual who occasinally makes good music. I just never listen to it freely - not only because he’s that person, but also because I really never cared about this type of music - it doesn’t really move me emotionally
Pretty good. Monster is a good song and Nikki Minaj is a surprisingly welcome addition. Power is also good, though it leans heavily on the King Crimson sample. However, Ye has clearly leant to far into the album title and his choices now cloud his earlier work (for us).
Leider gute Musik aber Werk vom Künstler nicht trennbar.
The imagery of bruising a woman’s oesophagus is not something I want in my head. It also passes up the chance to rhyme sarcophagus with “Mr Snuffleupagus”.
This album raises the Leni Riefenstahl problem. She was a gifted German filmmaker in the 1930s. Her most significant work was "Triumph of the Will," a mesmerizing depiction of Nazi rallies in Nurnberg that was, above all things, a propaganda triumph for Hitler. She never repented of her work. Comparing people to Nazis is usually a pointless way to end reasonable discussion of an issue. But here, West is now a self-confessed Nazi. So the comparison seems apt. How does one assess his work in light of the fact that he is a thoroughly odious stain of a human being? Musically, it's got a lot going for it. But I can't get over the artist's moral depravity. Maybe this would be a harder call for me if it involved a morally problematic artist from my own youth such as Michael Jackson.
I don't like Nazis, so I didn't listen to this album beyond the Spotify-given clips. It sounded fine, I guess.
I don’t like Kanye. As a person. He’s a diuchebag. And it’s hard to listen to his music without picturing his stupid face and thinking about how much I dislike him. But I gave this two hard listens. I like his collab songs with others more than I like him by himself. In the end, though, there are only two or three songs on this album I’d gladly listen to again.
This guy is a piece of shit. The music is alright. I wasn’t much interested it back in 2010- sure am not now.
more rap, but not terrible - includes King Crimson sample
Non fa per me, non mi piace
Difficult to listen to someone who has become a Nazi.
I don't think I've ever heard the P-word on an album as much as I have on this one. The production sounded good, but I'm not into this.
Never heard this album before, probably won’t listen to it again. Scratch that, I’m sure some trainer on Peleton will mix this into the next cycle class. Ho hum.
Elements of this were OK. The overall music was good, the supporting vocals were good, production good. Then the rapping began! Tolerated it for a bit but had to turn off. I am no fan of hip hop. I don't like it, I don't get it. Because Elements of it were OK it gets 2 stars
Reiferes Rap Album. Weniger N-Worte und mehr Musik und mehr Melodie verbunden mit netten Experimenten. Diese Mischung macht es, trotz des schwierigen Genres teilweise hörbar. „All of The Lights“, „Runaway“ und „Blame Game” versprühen einen Hauch von Musik.
Not for me
Interesting. Music quite good. Lyrics interesting but not usually my thing - but also not a put-off
Meh. Not necessarily my thing.
I don't know... this just isn't my cup of tea. Just from a production standpoint I feel like it's all too over produced. And I don't think I can separate what I know about what kind of person Kanye is from his music. Not sure he can be separated though because who he is really comes through in his lyrics. Sexist, megalomaniac. I enjoyed "Runaway" because I once used it in a Bud Light spot and the Bon Iver track was ok.
Didn't think it was good. Rhymes were so-so. Production was nice. First Kanye album I've ever listened to but I do trend towards JARV and Aesop Rock and Blackalicious more.
Lots of noise and beats. Runaway was okay
Not a Kanye fan at all, but Power and All of the Lights are certified stadium bangers, the rest is kinda forgettable for me. Loved the instrumentals for most of the songs but I hate his voice in most of them
Not an interesting album by Kanye standards. It takes the spirit of Graduation and Dropout (both amazing albums) to push recycled tropes in a directionless manner. The album intro: an airy voice providing a bit of non-sense narration has been done sooo many times. But does he do something inventive? Does she become a character like on ATCQ:Midnight Marauders? No. Does she reappear later to provide insight or relatability? No. Does she provide any value at all besides clicking off the cliche check-box? No. She's included only to say: what follows is semi-clever fully-confused claptrap. This is just the first three seconds, I know. But everything on here is a rehash, and it just gets boring. Unacceptable for anyone calling themselves the GOAT.
Mir ist dieser Rap etwas zu funky.
Slightly annoying that some of the tracks on this are really quite good (e.g. POWER) because the guy is clearly an absolute bell.
Well, that was something. Another recording where it felt that not only was it not intended for me but it was explicitly not intended for an audience of people like me. From what I have learned, this album represented a change in direction for Kanye West. Quite an array of contributors. The anger over injustice is intertwined with self importance and sex. Still a lot of talent, but I don't need to hear KW's whole catalog in my life.
Beste sanger: Power, Dark Fantasy og All of the Lights
..
I'm going to (attempt to) ignore the fact that Kanye is kind of a piece of shit for this review. I'm trying to give this a fair shot. Dark Fantasy is a decent album opener - I'll give Kanye credit for surrounding himself with lots of talent. My only note on this one is that Kanye must be absolutely tone deaf. His rapping has always been his talent, but he can't hit a note to save his life. Gorgeous is boring. I'm torn about Power. On one hand, it does a really interesting job taking a classic King Crimson song and transforming a song around it to modernize the sound. On the other hand, King Crimson did all the hard work here. How much of the reason that this is a good song is because of people other than Kanye? All of the Lights is fine until, again, Kanye tries to sing. Fergie is great on this track. It is a good song overall. Monster and So Appalled are fine. Very rap, which isn't really my genre. All the substance of Devil in a New Dress is sampled. I think Runaway is the first genuinely great song on the album. For as long as it is, it's cohesive and impactful. Hell of a Life isn't a huge standout for me, but I do think it's a significantly better use of sampling than some of the other songs on the album. The inspiration/borrowed melodies and sounds are obvious, but the song is still original; it's not just rapping over a backing track of someone else's song. Blame Game is not interesting. The outro spoken word part is gross. Lost in the World is actually pretty good. Thank you to Bon Iver for the melody and sample on this one. Kanye's ego is absolutely fucking ridiculous. Anyone who didn't see his complete psychotic breakdown coming, even back at this point, is deluded. There are moments when I can see what people mean by his "artistry" on this album, but his head is too far up his own ass most of the time to let a song, never mind an album, be completely good. Credit where credit is due; Kanye can put together a solid group of talent. The best songs on this album had some heavy lifting by other artists and sampling. Unfortunately, I don't think this proves that Kanye is a good artist, and I don't know that I can call this a good album. 2.5
More musically varied and interesting than I was expecting. Found the language in the lyrics difficult and alienating, although it does explore a concept and is a proper album. And it’s too long!
Tracks: No matter how creative the programming - robot music leaves me feeling cold. Rhymes: Is the threshold for being considered a genius making 30% of your lyrics meaningful and interesting?
Not listened before, better than expected but not my thing.
first album okay - can we get much higher??? middle was kinda ehhh i think all of the lights is okay tbh like idk didn’t speak to me monster is kinda gas LMFAO WHAT IS NICKI DOING HERE BYEEE didn't really speak to me unfortunately
He's really not the genius he says he is.
I try to listen to it as how a fan of this genre would. I guess it would be great, but it's just not for me. I gave up a few songs in. Make no mistake, I do listen to rap, the Filipino artists like Moro Beats, but Kanye is, well, Kanye. And life is too short to listen to music that doesn't move you.
I really did not like this album. There were moments that were ok, but every song felt two-three minutes too long. It wasn’t like the songs were dynamic enough to warrant how they just went on and on. Also I’m not sure if I’m supposed to sympathize with Kanye’s inability to see women as human beings, but that’s the vibe I got.
It was all right, but my cultural background prevented me from really getting into the lyrical content. I have to say that the sampling and his flow was nice
I don't like the man, only sampled the first couple of songs, and rap is not my thing but I can see how this album would be appealing to those who do like it. This would be on the higher end of the over-abundance of rap albums offered up here. 2.5/5
I tried but I can’t get around my dislike for Kayne.
All the lights by Kanye West has some sounds that kinda sound like wooden drums like the ones you would use in elementary school. Or it could be digital but either way its very interesting. It adds a nice complement to the other instruments and it sounds up-beat. Nice back-up vocals also. I would say I would recommend this album.
Best Song: POWER Worst Song: Ball Game
better than i thought itd be at the start? i started to enjoy it with whoever was on those female vocals, seccond song with what i assume is kanyes vocals seems less fun, but its fine. song 3 - kinda hard to listen to, i tend to like hip hop but this is a bit rough, way less good than i expected seeing the reviews.. 5? really? i dont see that yet. song 5 - its fine, i feel like it gets better whenever kanye isnt singing but when he comes back it gets mid again, bit of an issue that is. wtf is monster this intro is ass - this album is so shit lmfao i undestand the beats are fun, but this is really not for me wtf this is so uncanny - AGAIN kanye shuts the fuck up and the music gets better - get it niki fucking get it HAHA maybe i just hate men idk these vocals are just not hitting it for me im so appalled by song 7 look at me im funny PLEASE this album is shitty intro to song 8 is fun okay okay icu runaway is a bit of a banger, heard it before, but its nothing like the rest of the album and its sill a bit mid its fine i guess, nothing ill listen to again.
More pop than hip-hop and more diversified and therefore more listenable than other hip-hop/rap albums. But still not my prefered gengre and way too long.
A little better than the previous one I listened to. Two Kanye albums in the same week is torture...
I tried to come at this one objectively putting aside how I feel about the man. Putting aside biases towards the artist, I still didn't love this one. Some Kanye admittedly slaps. This album just didn't do it for me.
This one didn’t do anything for me.
If I’m being honest, I’m not really a fan of rap music but I’ve always believed that any genre of music can produce something worthy of listening to. Sadly this isn’t one of those occasions. Perhaps my judgement is a little coloured by negativity surrounded by this artist, although I don’t know much about West apart from allegations of misogyny and violence. To its credit the production is slick and many of the tracks tuneful but then he starts rapping. I can appreciate that this is a form of poetry and there’s certain skill attached to its composition and performance, but as an ageing white man I can find no cultural connection to this apart froma sample of 21st Century Schizoid Man.
I didn’t hate it as much as I thought I would.
This stinks.
I expected it to be awful but it was more just sad, especially the song with Nicky Minaj and the one after. Some people really can’t handle getting famous.
Ye the producer 10/10 Ye the artist 2/10
Enjoyed "Dark Fantasy" and "Monster." Other tracks not so much--just as douchy as the dude.
Highlight: Lost In The World In a nutshell: maximalist hip-hop. There is a lot of copy-paste song format here: find a sample or beat you like- even if it sounds similar to another track you've laid- and loop it. Add anything that sounds shit hot- synth horn, hand drums, vocoder, a Gospel choir, piano. Get your mates involved. Go apeshit. Make it regal, big, unapologetic. Keep shaping it til it sounds perfect. Repeat. I sense a mania in the music- in production and execution- that I didn't hear in The College Dropout. It's definitely bloated, half the songs are over 5 minutes. One has an (unfunny) skit outro featuring Chris Rock. This sounds like one of those albums an artist needed to make to redefine and refine themselves. Kanye is an expert at shaking up shit. I appreciate the ambition, it's not my thing. But it's worth a listen. It's unique and a product of its time. Overall: 4/10
So as usual with Kanye the production is great but sine of his rhymes are just too cringe. This doesn't seem as impactful as College Dropout though
Not as good as I expected. Somewhere between Kanye's old soul sample style and the minimalism of 808s etc and I am not sure if this works. I think I prefer either approaches on their own. Don't think I will play this ever again. Also, with 2024 ears, it is hard not to hear the nastier tone than Kayne has in voice (and lyrics) these days, already kind of being in there.
Keeping the fact Kanye is a problematic character aside... This isn't a great album. It's fine but not even one of Kanye's best let alone one of the greatest albums of all time.
Qué raro
The self importance permeates this one all the way through. 2.3 stars
Eh
Honestly wasn't half bad (That is a lot coming from somebody who's "worst" genre is hip-hop.) "Runaway" is a standout for me, featuring a twinkling piano melody and fantastic incorporation of samples. In fact, I would argue that the album was well written. That said, Kanye West is a disillusioned Nazi and antisemite. Whenever I'm listening to his tracks, I remember that Tweet of him wearing a swastika shirt and that instantly ruins the album's appeal to me. I have been called out for turning my nose up to rap music then and again. But why should I breach my own morals just to conform to self-proclaimed music elitists's standards?
Like Kanye himself, this album turned out to be a complete and utter disappointment. The best part about it is Nicki Minaj’s verse on “Monster.”
What to do with this one? I can understand why Kanye has been lauded. There are moments of ambition, even genuis, but I feel like mostly he's mostly getting graded on a curve, merely for stretching the genre. It all feels a tad self-indulgent, which I guess is all part of the rap game, but still. I found Runaway to be the most interesting song, and perhaps mostly because it's a moment of introspection, perhaps clarity, where Kanye can see the cliff he eventually ends up going over. When he tells you to run away, he's not lying. And, as much as I would like, I can't really separate the art from the artist. It colors it all, and I'd prefer not to know anything more about his fantasies, dark or otherwise.
I acknowledge the popularity of the album and the impact of the artist, though I care for neither. Favorite track: "Lost In The World."
It took me a bit to figure out that the reason why so many songwriters are listed in the credits - for one song I counted 13 names - is that Kayne was forced to acknowledge the artists he sampled. The album is exceptionally well-produced. I like everything but Kayne's rap.
Not my kind of music at all
One point bonus for iron man sampling
I know it’s iconic, but it’s not my favourite genre of music
I’m not seeing the genius of this album
It was all over the place, and the subject matter didn't click with me. I just didn't get it.
This album was the end of the good stuff. I didn't like it when it came out, for some reason, i think the hype was too much and it just didn't live up to it. Only one song is worth relistening to, and it's only good due to the background vocals.
The guy is a scumbag, but that's more or less all I know from him, I've lost interest/lost track with mainstream hip hop a long time ago. Is it any good? I don't particularly like his flow (there is no particular edge, it's a bit too smooth/dull to my taste), the background music is not too bad but a bit bloated. We can clearly hear that lots of efforts were put in the production, but I'm not really convinced and it's hard to claim that is pure genius. It wasn't really bad overall, but not that good either.
My thoughts on this album clicked on that one song that sampled Avril 14th by Aphex Twin. It was great musically and set a great atmosphere, and then Kanye put just enough self-aggrandizement on top of that to make it not unpalatable. At the end of the song, my takeaway was that the original Avril 14th was better. Granted, I don’t listen to rap, and there might be something to his lyrics that might be more meaningful to someone who does, but it didn’t resonate with me. This might be controversial, but I feel like this album succeeded in spite of Kanye West, not because of him. It struck me as a series of slightly worse versions of great songs that are still very good. I struggled writing this because I did enjoy listening to this album, but at the end of the day, my takeaway is that a rap album was good, but would be better without the rapper, which is pretty damning praise.
I'll admit I was a little surprised that I didn't find this to be the worst thing ever. I was actually enjoying much of the first half all the way through Monster. But then it started to get tedious & the lyrics took a serious nosedive. Apparently Runaway is a standout for a lot of people but that might be my least favorite track as it's just the lazy-ass Four Chords again.
Not my bag.. Creative and artistic - - but.. nah
Infinitely more listenable than the College Dropout, which felt like taking a wire brush to my eardrums. Lyrics were pretty much what I expect from this genre and I could do without it. Consistently quite musical and well produced, though I wouldn't come back to it. Some bits I was like 'this is obviously supposed to be funny, I guess...'
The reviews on this album talk about the production and how great it is but I just find it busy and confusing for a hip hop album; too much going on in each track - I just don't find 'the swing' or whatever. In fact I don't like the production; I don't like the songs; I don't like Kanye, I don't like any of it...
Not as charming as College Dropout, not as weird as Yeezus. Never liked this album.
A well produced/constructed album, but I was just bored listening to it
At this point of the 1001 list, I'm tired of Kanye West! Subjectively, it's a fine pop/hip hop/rap album, good beats, well produced and all that, a little too much autotune, but by the time I got to the Chris Rock skit, I couldn't take any more.
He goes on a bit doesn't he?
Für mich ist das nichts mag keinen Rap

not that horrible
Hm, ich fand's uninteressant.
Some good tracks and some absolute trash. Tracks like blame game nothing but turgid shite
This is considered to be one of the greatest rap albums. There are some really good parts of, then Kanye opens his mouth and trashes it. He was pretty good producer, I will give him that. “All of the Lights” and the collaboration “Monster” are okay. “Runaway” is also pretty good. Overall, this album graced my IPad and probably will not be gracing it again.
Some genius stuff on here. I always had respect for Kanye’s unconventional methods. Now all I hear is clouded by his antisemitic rants. Unfortunately.
Music was good but everything else about this was nonsense.
I'm glad we got this, I know a bunch of people who are OBSESSED with Kanye but I never got around to listen to him because he always gave me bad vibes. Well, time proved me right and he ended up being batshit insane and I have a huge problem of not being able to separate the art from their artists. Trying to be open minded and understand why a lot of people consider this album "the best ever made", I listened to it twice and spent a lot of time interpreting the lyrics and focusing on the songs. But I cant... The lyrics are just him being self indulgent with half assed rhymes and the sampling is very boring and repetitive. There's even a few times I thought spotify was being buggy because the sampling were just repeating weirdly. Some songs get pretty hype but it either repeats ad infinitum, or abruptly stops and you never hear it again, no balance in between. Some guest artists were pretty good too, but as soon as kanye start spouting shit, it gets ruined. Overall, the music is also not really intricate, but I guess its decent compared to most of modern hip hop, which is not saying a lot tbh.
This is a tough one for me. I can appreciate the artist but it is so difficult to get passed the man.
Good album, some hard listens for me but also has Runaway so that says it all
I feel like this is when rap started to get awful. Auto tune 😩. There were some pretty high profile producers on the album and it has its moments, but the whole thing didn’t really work for me.
Eh
Blame Game may well be the worst song I've ever heard
He's an egotistical god complex moron. That's probably what makes his music as enjoyable as it is. Still not my thing.
The accompaniment behind many of the songs was fairly interesting, but……it’s still rap. Which means too much profanity, too many “niggers” and too much the same. Plus, with all of the “guests,” I don’t know which voice was Kanye’s. Doesn’t matter though, it’s all crap, so I don’t really care.
I wanted to give this album more. I feel a 2.5 is more appropriate. Only a few songs I liked. It felt drawn out for me. I did laugh when Chris Rock lids his thing. Yeh has some clever rhymes but all in all the album didn’t do it for me
hated it
Wasn't able to listen to this in one sitting for one reason or another, which probably didn't help. Found this a bit boring to be honest.
I've heard this recently enough to feel comfortable providing my thoughts without giving this gigantic asshole any more streams: like probably many other white people my age, Kanye was a big entry point for me into rap, and was essentially the only hip hop i listened to for a good while (very embarrassed to have been a "everything but rap and country" kid in middle school). now, I've exposed myself to much more rap & hip hop and i just find my tastes have changed. the actual quality of production is pretty unimpeachable but the style of it just does nothing for me. a lot of it is weirdly weightless and the sounds just don't wow me the way they did back in 2010. and of course many of the actual lyrics are eye rolling how much of this is just a subconscious response to what Kanye has become? probably a lot, i dunno. i try to listen unbiased but there's just an inescapable level of slime over all of it now. i want to say my diminished view is honestly come by, but truly i can't say how much my opinion of the man is causing me to be less generous than i otherwise would be. but, hey, I'm not a professional critic, i can afford to be biased
Gave it a shot. Also, tried to separate Ye the artist from Ye the asshole. Didn’t hate the album but found myself tuning out frequently.
Had to really hold my nose for this one. Ive never actively listened to a single kanye project...and at this point I kind of enjoy having that rare persepective. But Im not a zealot about it so I immediately pressed play. Ill start with my praise. It reaaally feels like 2010. So much so that it was quite nostalgic. Now remember Ive not heard more than half of this album. The only song coukd pick out of a lineup was Monster, which I am only aware of due to the 'legendary' Minaj portion. So it is rather impressive to be thoroughly transported to a time 14 years ago by songs and a sound/style you only absorbed through cultural osmosis. I kinda enjoyed So Apalled. It was my favorite track overall. Best features besides Monster , and I feel it delivered the most on the albums concept, without being annoying or obvious. No the annoying and obvious was reserved for basically every other marquee track on here, with the exception of the opener, which is catchy, but practically bubblegum, which as we all know loses its flavor quickly, and the final two closing songs which roll into eachother nicely and might be worth a revisit. The lowest point for me was Runaway, which is such a cliched sentiment in music(of all genres actually), along with the concept 'im so f'd gurl, no u dont understand, im a literal Monster' that I cant buy into the themes. Its just sooo overwrought and self congradulatory for the sake of spectacle. I will not be "toasting the scumbags". Im sorry I just wont. Like...we all can look back and see how this album reads in 2024. Its like Kanye devoting all his power toward letting himself off the hook for anything, and he had so much cultural sway not only did the media, core music culture, and corporate brands COMPLETELY FALL IN LINE, they all had to eat their words and show their asses when he went FULL NAZI MAGA DORK, and its like oops haha nvm not MY Kanye. Lastly I'll say that Chris Rock skit was unlistenable, and maybe he deserved THE SLAP, now that I was forced to hear it. Bring on the next one, I know theres gonna be more Yeezy in this list.
Some tracks were good. Others a bit of an effort.
Kein Folk und hörbar: 2 Sterne. Aber Kanye Wes... nein - beswingt mich nicht. Weder gestern noch heute.
On a few tracks I felt I knew what he was up to, beyond offending anyone looking to be offended, but no - for me, no.
I understand why this album was so loved when it came out. Not my style.
Interesting production, not much for the lyrics. Different in a good way but could not get into it.
His voice is whiny
Forgettable with some small glimmers of creativity. Not sure why this gets the critical acclaim it does.
Classic but kayne is slightly more dark a twisted for my liking
Nervig
There are songs I want to like but I don’t like Kayne.
Wood be a great rap album if less N & P used
Used to love this album, but listening to it now I only really enjoyed Runaway.
SHUT UP YOU PRICK
Definitely a landmark album, as far as changing hip hop. Not my cup of tea though.
# 149 : My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy by Kanye West : It's not a bad album, I Can listen to it, but its too long for me, and I don't get the hype. Too much swearing with a lot of bling and no substance. Fav Track : Runaway
It was actually better than i thought, but I can't say I would listen again on purpous
Oh no, really? Had a couple of conversations about 'separating art from the artist' recently and No. I do not. I won't neccessarily ban art from myself that I'd liked before I found out that the artist is a douchebagassholemoron but I'm sure af not going to seek out any more of it after. With that in mind, I had never listened to this album - I'm not exactly a great hip hop / rap afficionado but especially never cared about Kanye. Bad vibes? Silly hypes? Yeah, turns out the guy's an ugly mess. This one? It's a big album, I get that, but I don't need it in my life. Also, Thank God for Lyric Deafness.
No tengo mucho que decir, no soy fan del rap.
Album Nr. 24 Für denjenigen, welcher HipHop mag bestimmt ganz OK. Bei mir aber nicht.
Meh.
Gave it 30 minutes. Enjoyed some, but I don’t think I’m the target demographic. Couldn’t decide whether to add or subtract a star for rhyming sarcophagus with esophagus
Meh.
A lot of these albums I wonder what it would be like to hear it without having all the songs be ubiquitous. This I wonder what it would be like to hear without the MAGA baggage. Not something I'll probably chose to go back to but man can I see why people are so high on his music. 2.5 stars
First 5 songs = good Monster & after = not that great. 2.5/5 because I enjoyed the first part but the rest - lyrics are super sus and not that great; must admit that Runaway has good instrumentsl.
Some good parts, but it is hard for me to listen to a hip hop album in it's entirety
When I saw it was Kanye I groaned. I don’t like rap and I don’t like swearing profusely or using Nigger or pussy. all that said I liked this album more than the first one - even though there’s a LOT of repetition of lyrics. Two songs stood out for me that I liked; Blame - although the ending with I believe Chris Rick rapping was too much and Runaway.
The production on the album is multi-layered and works exceptionally well on many tracks. I can't remember who described it as a prog rock rap album, but there is a lot of truth to that. The production is a lot of fun! I also really enjoyed some of the guest verses (Nicki Minaj has a particularly good one). However, I just can't get past the rank misogyny on some of the tracks. Women are treated as playthings primarily valued for their looks and sexuality. Common tropes in the genre, but I don't have to listen to it.
I can see why people think Kanye is brilliant. Too many lyrics talk about beating and degrading women, so it’s not for me. Runaway was my favorite, and it was cool to hear all the collabs, like Bon Iver and Nicki Minaj absolutely throwing down. I like some songs more than others. Probably won’t listen again.
Misogynist
Somehow I expected more. Few surprises and nothing new.
Doesn’t appeal to me at all
The best parts of this album are the parts when Kanye shuts up and lets other people carry it for him. I don't know why people go on about the production. Is it because there's nothing else to latch onto here? Anyway, the production is awful. I'm only giving this a 2 because there are some fun guest appearances.
Listened to about half and do like it. I'm having trouble separating the art from the artist so, like Jerry Lee Lewis, rating is based on ick factor.
Not very impressed. I like some of West’s earlier work, but found this to be a little too over the top. The beats are uniquely him, which kind of saves the album for me, but the lyrics are just not impressive. 2/5 Won’t listen again
This album is pretty undeniably great but I absolutely cannot separate the art from the artist here. I wish I could! Honest!
nah…
4.5/10 Nice production but over the top obnoxious Highlights: So Appalled
as with any musical acts in this genre, you expect overinflated egos and an exaggerated sense of self importance, but kanye definitely goes above and beyond… and nauseatingly so. he plays the hero in his own songs, but you don’t want to cheer for him because he is not likeable whatsoever. heroes, after all, are supposed to have some redeeming qualities. as other songs i have listened to by this artist, he just comes across as a sex obsessed narcissist. i could probably listen to the songs if they were instrumentals because they beats are admittedly catchy but the lyrics just ruin them.
Oh well, from the sublime to the ridiculous. No, no, no. I must keep an open mind, no matter how crap its going to be. Well that was a surprise. I mean, I'm not a fan of rap, but musically this was not bad. The lyrics left a lot to be desired, but I quite liked the music. I wouldn't buy it, and will probably never listen to it ever again, but can't resist giving it a 2 for the music alone.
enjoyable but also Kanye
It's hard to be objective about this album when I'm listening to it for the first time in 2023, especially since I'm not a lyrics-first person or by extension a hip-hop or pop fan by default. I've heard enough modern music influenced by this and other 2010s albums that MBDTF's production doesn't feel as fresh as I'm sure it did on release, and it's hard to get over the urge to dismiss all of Kanye's lyrics out of had given his long-accelerating descent into public insanity and the recent revelation of his anti-semitism. That all being said, I understand why this album is celebrated - there are brilliant songs on this album, and its sprawling, indulgent production is impressive and enveloping, even more so to those who know its references and context intimately, I'm sure. I am especially impressed by the number and variety of features on the album - it's not easy to weave so many top pop artists into a cohesive whole or to surf their different skills and moods as effortlessly as Kanye does. It probably helps that he has an ego big enough to subsume all of them, but hey whatever gets the job done. Highlights: POWER, All Of The Lights, Nicki Minaj's verse on Monster, the production on So Appalled, Devil In A New Dress, Hell Of A Life. Lowlights: ego, song length, and misogyny, the pinnacle of all three being Chris Rock's absurd, cringy, and disgusting skit on Blame Game, which honestly knocked an entire star off the rating of this album for me. If I have to listen to something that unpleasant every time I listen to the album in full I am not giving that full album a 3 or higher.
More melodic than I'd anticipated. Nothing particularly interesting about it though. Sounds very flat?
Samples not as good as from some of his other albums. He's an objectively bad rapper. Best verses are from other performers.
No soy fan del genero pero tiene algunas canciones interesantes al principio del album, una mezcla de ritmos y samples que lo mantienen fresco. Para la mitad se pone es mas rap de la vieja escuela.
Dark fantasy was ok. I liked the rhythm. Everything else felt really meh. Couldn't really get into rap. Didn't like the lyrics either.
Det er ik lige mig, men det er ikke helt forfærdeligt.
This is a real exercise in separation of the artist from their art - I quite liked the album but Kanye West makes my blood boil so it's a low rating sadly
Bleh
Meh
ikke min smag
5/10
Started off promisingly, but alas failed to last the distance.
I feel like I got this one already. Idk, kinda irritating. Maybe this one of those 'ya had to be there' albums. I missed the moment, I don't get it.
Monster
Noise, not a fan.
Some good songs, lots of what felt like filler, and, nowadays, unfortunately too much baggage. Can kinda see how it was a big deal when it came out but didn't really do it for me now.
not really my style, a few decent songs
Dark Fantasy - beautiful
Kanyes lyrics are so wack. Some good tracks in here though. Can't imagine me ever putting it on again
ok. A lot of crude lyrics I didn't like...
Kanye makes my skin crawl
Talented rapper, just not my jam. Runaway is a hood song.
First time hearing an entire Kanye West song, let alone full album, and another hip-hop album ruined by crass and sexist lyrics. There were some interesting things going on musically, but also a lot of annoying bits, mostly with the vocals, like the awful auto-tune. Chris Rock deserved to be slapped for his contribution in the song "Blame Game." I'll bet it wasn't fun trying to edit the clean version of that one. Best track: "Power". I'm guessing there will be more Kanye on this list. Sigh.
All the shine is gone. It's fine I guess. When I pay attention to the lyrics, I'm overanalyzing them in the context of who he became, which probably isn't fair. The production doesn't seem as great now either, but I imagine that is due to his techniques being used by others a million times since this was released. Power was the highlight of the album. He does seem like a much better emcee in the age of trap and mumble. That being said, he still has a corny forced flow that isn't helped by cadences that are slightly beyond his ability. Wish I could listen to it in a vacuum without him as baggage
Kanye is a solid producer, although when you use super famous samples, and don't alter them much, you can't count yourself among the greats. He is an ok rapper, but has some seriously cringy lines. He is a horrible singer, and his hooks are annoying. The features are the best parts here. 2 monsters out of 5 👹👹
I mean this is not really my music, and so went in with little expectations.. but I can see why people think that Kanye is a very talented musician despite being a troublesome character. Some of these songs were like 4 but the album as a whole, for me, is a 2
I didn't really care about this. Some beats were alright, but some were annoying. His flow didn't really catch my attention very often. Not very excited for the other two albums on the list. My favourite song was Devil in a New Dress.
Some creative production choices.
Can’t stand Kanye. He’s a prick but the music is ok. I do wish it was shorter though
"The clock's ticking, I just count the hours" - 8 minutes into this 1h 8min long album I'm counting down the hour... I wasn't looking forward to this, and I'm still not. But I'm in it... If this led to anybody checking out King Crimson who hadn't previously done so, that's probably going to be the most positive attribute of this album for me... Oooof! "Monster" might just feature the weakest Jay-Z verse I've ever heard. That was painful. "Runaway" is about 9 minutes too long and has one of the dumbest hooks I've ever heard. Oh! Nevermind. This vocoder/autotune re-write of "Iron Man" for the hook of "Hell of a Life" is much worse! Alright, in order to inject some positivity into these proceedings I will fall back to where I commonly wind up when it comes to discussions around Kanye - there is some fantastic production here. I think Kanye is a solid producer. Not the best; not legendary; solid. But as an emcee, I feel like his spectrum reduces to something between decent and horrifically wack - more often than not the latter end of that. Perhaps the incredible array of guest appearances on this album distracts many from the fact this is self-indulgent and not that good, aside from a bunch of the beats.
Eu não consigo gostar desse album, mas consigo ver o motivo de outros gostarem
Was able to listen to all of it unlike the last one. Not my favorite but could return for others.
I don't like rap, but at least this has some actual musical elements to it and not just a generic backing track. There's actually some decent stuff on here. Favorite tracks were All Of The Lights (Interlude) and Runaway. Parts of Monster, Gorgeous, and Blame Game were ok too.
Kanye being a massive bellend aside, this album is overated imo. Some catchy parts but also lots of cringey bits.
Meh
I don't know how I'm supposed to rate this. Overall the album was much better than I expected. I enjoyed some of the songs, but I also skipped several others because they were unbearable.
It wasn’t as bad as some albums but I don’t like the man and that prejudiced my opinion. Also there were the usual bad mouth lyrics and no doubt, mysoginistic views. 2*
That's a no from me.
I disliked this
Not for me.
Non male ma non il mio genere
Former US President Barack Obama correctly identified Kanye West as a jackass and if you can separate Ye's antics and outbursts from his music you might be able to enjoy this record for what it's worth. There are at least 4 great tracks on this record that are good enough to stand on their own outside of his complicated legacy. However, the remainder of the tracks are of uneven quality. Bracketing all the negative Kanye stuff would only put this record in three star territory reaching for that unattainable fourth star. Unfortunately for me, as the owner of four of his albums, I find it increasingly difficult to hold all that extra stuff at bay. Two stars.
Without knowing it I've heard half of this album in hockey changing rooms. it used to be all about rock music but all these youngsters seem to need some of this shit to get them pumped up. doesn't compute with my old brain but whatever, the yoof will inherit the earth. it's his most coherent album and i can appreciate the production but i always struggle to listen to anything where the singer is a despicable prick. Kanye is up in the higher echelons of gobshite dickheads that are unlistenable sat at the head table with Bonio and Chris Cunting Martin.
What an unbearable dickhead
Never got the hype about Kanye. The best moments on this album are due to guest vocalists.
Still can't get into Kanye. I liked this album more than the last one I got here but its still a one and done.
Kanye, the douche...
1-2 gute Sachen, ansonsten unauthentischer Alt-Rap mit zuviel Effekthascherei. Ach ja und Kanye isn Penner. Immernoch.
Overall to donda, a few listenable songs but overall just not too great. Power makes it a 2
“Pussy and religion is all I need.” Well, if that’s all you need, take a 2/5. He hides behind all the other guest artists to get any semblance of music into a track.
Han undviker bottenbetyg tack vare sina samplingar, att han stjäl och att det finns någon form av melodi i vissa låtar.
No es mi estilo, pero le damos una oportunidad.... (ONB). No me ha gustado (LNM).
I went into this album with open ears and a sense of eagerness about me. The only real experience I'd ever had of Kanye West was when he played one of the worst sets I've ever seen at Glastonbury - exhibiting a total lack of imagination or care for the festival and its audience. So, when this came up as the album of the day, I was actually quite excited to see what all the fuss was about. Yes, I did listen to the full album (twice). Do I regret it? No, I do not. Will I be listening again in a hurry? No, I will not. It was a great start - an intriguing voiceover, into an almost choral "Dark Fantasy" made for an enticing beginning. I was ready for my opinions and beliefs to be changed. But it was after track one that things started to go down hill. For the majority of tracks, the disjointed formula of "spoken/rap" > "dramatic music/breakdown" > "spoken/rap" became laborious and although there's no denying that there are SOME well composed tunes that save the whole thing, I did find myself going "oh god, not again" approximately half way in. The top tier collaborations are worth noting too - I always love guests adding their own characteristics to an album but for me, it wasn't enough. Overall, this album feels largely self-gratifying - with the overriding theme of the album being "look at how amazing I am - and if you don't agree, we'll have sex and everything will be okay". I don't know - maybe at the wise old age of 28 I'm turning into a grumpy old man. But this certainly wasn't the album for me.
If I didn't know who this was, and I couldn't hear the tiresome, tiresome lyrics (notable exception for the use of the word "reupholstered"), I would like this quite a bit. The music tracks and the singing vocals are quite enjoyable.
Probably my favorite Ye. Devil in a dress bops mega hard, and has always been in my list of fave jams. But yeah, oi vay listening to his albums doesn’t feel too kosher anymore.
One single word: overproduced. The record starts with a set of songs that all hear the same, beautifully produced pop sounds, intro by some choir either men or women and then mixed, and then the lyrics by Kayne. In the middle there are some more raw RAP songs. That sounds actually quite interesting from time to time. At the end it comes back to the same style as with the start of the record and then he closes with a song that disparages democracy. My summary: kind of boring, too much of the same, not my preferred choice.
I have no clue how to feel about this album. First off, Ye, or Kanye West, is a certified crazy asshole. He always has been, and looking up to him for his personality, is questionable. That being said, after listening to this, I understand why this is some big event in rap and even in other genres. This album definitely sounds different than anything releasing at the time, and the sampling is easily the best part of the whole album in my opinion, which is actually one of my gripes with songs like Stronger from his earlier album. It has an energy to it where even songs I'm not liking get me enjoying it, it knows how to be a good album, and I cannot deny that. I do think it comes off a little egotistical, however. Both in the lyrics, which is expected, but also in the sound. A nine minute song where the beginning is single piano keys for the first bit? That doesn't come off as musically impressive, it comes off as full of yourself and thinking you can do whatever and people will call it art, and that's ehat people did. It's just so many pros and cons I gotta but it right down the middle. I will say the idea people found King Crimson through this album makes me happy.
dumb and old fashioned. lame.
Not a place I'd like to inhabit.
Ei ollut ihmeellinen
I listened to this album once before and don't think I can bring myself to do it again. The amount of cursing is unbearable.
Alla beats låter fan likadant, mycket tråkiga texter, men ett par bra låtar
Listens: 1.5 Enjoyed: Not really The chorus and the beats are half decent. The verses not so much. Not too sure of the Kanye timeline as I'm not really a fan but this feels significant in his mental unravelling
Rollo patatero. La primera canción me suena un poco. 2
This was my first taste of the Yeezer, and I can't say I'm impressed. The King Crimson sample made me laugh out loud.
I knew I wasn't going to enjoy this one the moment it popped up. I'm just not a massive hip-hop fan and not a fan of Kanye either. There were a few songs that piqued my interest but I soon lost interest. I actually found myself skipping through the rest of the album as I just couldn't get into any of it. Certainly not my cup of tea.

Ew, Kanye.
Oh good, more skits about how great a rapper is at having sex.
I don't like Kanye.
No stand out tracks for me, background album
On the first listen I found the music quite entertaining and the Kanye started rapping and ruined it all. By the end of the second listen I was glad that it was over.
Starting out quite boring. It gets better with "all of the lights" and is really good with "Monster". However i liked the guest artists more than Kanye Wests performance. All in all great production with some great songs but (to me) far from a great album. Mind you, i'm usually not much into Hip Hop, allthough i liked n.w.a. a couple of days back.
I've listened to this several times over the years to see what all the fuss is about, and still, I find this so boring. The lyrics, beats, and Kanye's rapping style are all so uninteresting. Even the bigger moments, like Power and All the Lights, are more impressive and less boring but not enough for me to return back to. And everything is surrounded by this arrogant air that Kanye thinks he is making this classic piece of art, which makes everything worse. I think 2 stars is being generous, even though I wouldn't say I liked any of the songs, I don't consider it to be terrible.
I've never really seen the appeal of Kanye. His public persona aside, his music has always just been kind of "meh" for me. Opening track, Dark Fantasy, does nothing to improve this; sounds like it was written and recorded by a 12 year old. There are some decent guest appearances, and a couple of good hooks, but overall I didn't really enjoy this.
ehhh... it was ok.
"George Bush hates Kanye," and frankly so do I. But this album is better than I'd like to admit. To quote Obama, "he's a jackass..." https://www.politico.com/video/2012/04/obama-calls-kanye-a-jack-ass-012679
Some of the samples and hooks are really catchy. It’s Kanye’s rhymes that are often delusional or just bad.
Muza fajna, rapsy nie
First time listening to Kanye West. Some of the instrumental is ok but I wouldn't listen again.
More melodic than I expected but the loops and expletives ruin it for me.
If you don’t listen to the lyrics, this is an incredible, multi-dimensional album with such creative sound. But, I hate the lyrics. Can you separate the dancer from the dance?
Not a fan.
I’m not a fan. Not my go to choice music but gave it a chance to listen through. I found the vocals and voice had to listen to, and whilst musically there certainly were high points, there were too many low one for me. Can see why it may be popular though.
Love hip-hop but 80s and early 90s
Too self-indulget, too slow, and WAY TOO LONG. I've tried, because people say he's a genius, to "get" Kanye. But I just don't get him, I don't understand the appeal of the music. I liked the songs POWER and Monster. So there were a couple of bright spots on the album. Wasn't a fan, and/or activly hated the rest.
