Reviews (page 11 of 12)
Kuten monissa funk-klassikoissa, muutama pirun kova biisi ja loput ihan jebaa.
Funky but also outright political. The horns are crisp and the variety in vocals (gender, race, etc) give a lot of texture an interest. When the melodies are catchy the music is brilliant. \"Everyday People\" is objectively great, showcasing all the aforementioned strengths of the band. Unfortunately, and I hate to say it, some of the other tracks are repetitive and boring. I can see all of the songs being great live or on a dance floor; this album isn't really meant for just sitting and listening to.
Unimpressive collection of middle-ranking funk songs.
A funky good time
Alright album, nice flow for the latter half of the album. Liked "Sex Machine" the most.
Not the best effort from Sly but still good.

Funky and a little repetitive
Pretty fun, nice grooves. 3.5/5
6/10
Goed zeg! Deze soul beviel me eigenlijk best goed...
This album has a little bit of everything. It’s got a long instrumental track and groovy tune pop hit and an activist song. It’s an alright album. Probably be better without the long instrumental one. 5.8/10
Meh for me. Hit & miss pieces. Loved Stand! but it was the high mark. Hated the 14-minute long Sex Machine.
Lo escuché distraido
Cool funky grooves. Everyday People and I Want To Take You Higher are absolute classics, welcome additions to any party playlist. Sex Machine is so self-indulgent. I don't need to groove to the same instrumental number for over 13 minutes, that doesn't do it for me. One of those tracks where the people who are really high on the dance floor can zone out and go all night, but the rest of us roll our eyes after 3 minutes and want the DJ to move on.
Enough creative moments to know that there's something real here, but perhaps hampered by an overall lack of "musical-ness" and average lyric writing. Close to great, but just short. Exception is EDP, which makes me wonder if the writing is different on that track?
Heard it before. It's pretty good if you're into funk.
Only half listened to this. I really like a couple of songs by this band but this album as a whole didn’t really do it for me.
Very funky. Just okay.
Some electric funk hits. Some electric funk duds.
Nice songs to passively listen to, I knew some of them.
I'm a bit split on this one. Some parts I liked quite a lot and others were very 'meh'. So while I give this a 3, it's actually a 2 for half of the songs and a 4 for the other half. My favorite was the pretty intense instrumental guitar track Sex Machine.
Not yet the funkiness of the 70s, still carries stronger blues/rock n roll influence. Good album
funky
Okeeee
goede listen, veel toffe geluiden. somebody's watching you pak ik mee Sex machine begin klinkt als splatoons (nintendo game) die praten.
decent
That's some funky mediocrity!
New one. Soul, chill, some bluesy notes
Funky for sure. But got bored
Good souly vibe
Mixed bag. Some songs are funkylicious and some are meh. Overall pretty good, though.
It's ok. It's dated and reminds me of curtis mayfield. There's a couple of great tracks, but overall whilst I like this type of music, it wasn't as gripping as other black artists. 6/10 That's a bit generous.
Love "Dance to the Music", "Everyday People", and "Thank You", but the rest of the album doesn't do that much for me. This would probably be 3.5 for me normally but the regular issue with half stars applies. Today I'm feeling like rounding this down.
moui
Just OK. A lot of it way too indulgent. Must have been a fun live band though.
meh
I started off really enjoying this, it was heading for a 5 but as it moved along I fell out of love with it. I loved the energy of it but there was just a bit too much going on in this party for me to focus in on one thing. Much like the brave lions’ midfield trying to cope with the dominant azzuri in the centre of the park, I just couldn’t keep up and the thing passed me by.
Can clearly see that the band have influenced many funk artists with their sound. Enjoyed the album, 'Everyday People' and 'I want to take you higher' were the standouts for me but not my favourite genre and found the album as a whole a bit of a challenge to get through.
I awoke on this Wednesday morning, believing that perforce I had shaken off the sorrow and melancholy of witnessing the most talented and likeable set of England players in my lifetime lose on penalties (why did it have to be penalties? Why?). Reader, I had not. The cloud had not lifted, only temporarily allowed the sun (of optimism for the world cup, of appreciation for the incredible effort) to peep through. I needed something to get me out of my head and into my body, and the timeless grooves of Sly & The Family Stone did just that. They got me grooving such that I could forget the sickening feeling of watching penalties (!!!) from behind my hands and prevent my remembrances of the cruel, bittersweet hope of Jordan Pickford saving from Jorginho, that master trickster of the penalty spot. This was also timely, given the vicious, and sadly predictable racist abuse of the three exceptional players who missed by people who have no doubt spent the whole tournament cheering them. The title of track two tells you all you need to know about how long that senseless battle has been fought. It’s hard not to feel inspired by Sly’s groovable exhortations to action. Quite the tonic.
Excited
Funky. Powerful
This music made me shake my booty
Pretty decent. Almost of the verge of being too funky.
Fine for what it is.
Fun funky listen but didn't blow me away
'racism bad' the album
I mean I didn’t hate this album. It’s ultra funky and the use of the wah wah pedal is something else. I couldn’t choose any real stand out track though. Each one has its own uniqueness without blowing me away. I’ll give it a very cool.. 3 Stars!
funky, but a little much in places. A 14 minute track seems excessive
Good length, very funky, like the gospel elements Saved: Sex Machine
Not really my type of music but quite enjoyable nonetheless
.
Classic funk songs. Still groovin!
Good music, though not really my genre. “Everyday people” is a great song.
Boogie woogie! Liked this
The first song really gave me 70's sitcom theme song vibes. After that, it was kinda just like Earth, Wind, and Fire, but not as good. Probably wouldn't listen to it again, and none of the songs really stood out to me, but I liked it okay.
Some strong extended jam sessions, especially "Sex Machine" which clocks in around 10 minutes. Plenty of surprising guitar and organ sounds and Sly sounds great with the Vocoder. Not quite the hits or fire power of There's a Riot...
Bien, pero sin más.
It's got style and it's got funk. I mean, other than 13 minutes of... whatever you call it.
Don't call me nigger, whitey is a Jam! Stand outs: sex machine, you can make it if you try
Not quite my cup of tea, but nothing offensive about this album. Think Liam will like it more than me. Found some of the tracks quite repetitive.
Some good funky funk funk tracks but some a bit repetitive/indulgent.
Didn’t finish. Fresh use of wah pedals. Interesting but felt slow.
it's...listenable?!
Don't call me the n word, whitey! Don't call me whitey, the n word! This album remastered for 2021

Semibängeri Bra funk fiilis men ganska lång
Funky!
good to know
Not really my thing, but I can appreciate it and liked it at times.
Funk som aldrig helt lyfter för mej. Bra?
classic sly and the family stone!
Deserves a 3.5. Very smooth throughout with some great songs. Very relevant racial messages even from a 1969 album. At times sounds a bit repetitive.
groovy stuff, some experimental stuff too
Funkig. En del coola instrumentala partier. Några hits man kände igen.
Groovy.
+
Kinda wish it was Sly Stallone
Ok but not my type
all the funky for your daily needs.
I haven’t had a chance to listen to the album in its entirety, but from what I’ve heard, I feel like I will like it.
3
Classic 70s pop/funk album. There is some great harmonies and rich smooth vocals. Slap bass and horns that give the mental images of some undercover vice cop show. Sly and the family stone have a really soulful and funky sound that ruled the world in the Saturday Night Fever era of disco. Its a really good album and fantastic example of this genre. But it's not my favorite. I enjoyed each of the tracks individually, but as a collection it is a bit much for me. I would probably return to this album to get inspiration for a particular style of music, rather than to relisten. (2.333)
Eh, not the greatest
More less.
This psychedelic funk sound does absolutely nothing for me. I remember the NME trying to guilt-trip their readership in to listening to black American music in the 80s. I fell for it and bought a load of records I didn't enjoy and never played. Just to prove to the NME that I wasn't racist. Well, not enjoying black American music isn't racist! I just don't relate to the world they describe. And I wouldn't expect a poor black guy in Detroit to listen to and feel the jingly jangly indie that I like. Such nonsense. I still feel a pang of guilt about not liking music like this. The NME was no different to the Catholic church with its ridiculous diktats. Fuck you, NME! I'll like what I like. You like what you like and we'll respect each other's choices. Fin.
Day 7: eh
This one was in that gray area between 2 and 3, where I don't like it, but don't hate it either. And then the nearly 14 minute long "Sex Machine" started with the annoying vocal noises. True, some of that song is a jam, but it's also just too long. While I liked Stand! more than There's a Riot Goin' On, it's still not something I enjoy listening to, so it's going to slide down into the ranks of 2/5.
umm... i liked sex machine.... 2/5
Not bad but nothing great.
not my thing
Toe tapping...but not much else.
Everyday people
I expected to like this album, but sadly it didn't live up to my expectations.
2/5 Favorite Song: You Can Make It If You Try
Basically an instrumental album
I wanted to like this. I feel like it’s an album I’m “supposed” to like, you know? Like it’s heretical not to. Still, I have to admit that it isn’t for me. Funk has been a tough genre for me to get into, and the funk I do like has a little more going on, a little more zest and movement and dynamism. Idk. This isn’t bad, I just don’t think I’m the right audience.
2.5 / 5 Best Song: Sex Machine Worst Song: I Want to Take You Higher Weirdest Song: Sex Machine Honorable Mention: Sex Machine Pretty funky with some good jams here and there. I'm sure this is contextually a classic album for black empowerment and the civil rights movement, but just not hitting musically for me on most tracks. Sex Machine is fantastic though.
Accomplished musicianship and nice grooves but I found it quite uninteresting at best and annoying at worst
Not the biggest fan
A little too funky for me. Very 60's. "Everyday People" was pretty enjoyable.
I was expecting a bit more from this, it was a little disappointing. Definitely not a must listen but something tells me more of their discography will crop up.
Classic rock
Maybe it was good for it's time
Wow, Psychedelic Soul-Funk from 1969. I haven't heard a wah-wah pedal being used so much for a long time. A little bit dated perhaps, but a classic example of music from my childhood. I remember their hit "Everyday People", but not much else - it was so long ago.
It wasn't terrible but not really my style
4/10
track 2 !!!!!!
4/10
Giving me a headache.
Jeg bliver simpelthen aldrig en funky gal.
idk
This was fine but no standouts
Ok
13 minute+ Sex machine track just meandering nonsense. Couple of OK tracks here and there, but most wouldn't warrant a second listen from me
I found this pretty tedious to listen to. Quite a few long songs that felt like jams.
nope
Heard some of their music before. It's a fun album, sure. I guess I'm just not into this vibe today 2/5
Not my cup of tea.
Not really my jam
Meh
I like the socially conscious lyrics but got to admit the music doesn't do that much for me. I listened twice and not that much stuck with me, and the 13 minute instrumental downgraded it from 3 to 2
Happier times for Sly and a happier listen than There's a Riot Goin' On. A brighter mix and peppier, hookier melodies too. But the funk dilemma remains: when is a groove worn out? Only a fraction of the way into Sex Machine. 2.5 Everybody’s groovin’ on this record, often all at the same time. Amid this joyful clutter of instruments and ideas sat me, the listener, not caring a bit. 1.5/5
This is a pretty old-sounding album, but it was actually quite chill leaving it in the background while I was doing stuff. Overall, not too bad, so I am not giving it a low raiting, even though nothing really too exciting overall happened throughout the songs.
3/10 meh, I also couldn't find the album
that was not good
Not terrible
A creative album.
5/10. Very fun sound. Wild song titles
Regarded by some as groundbreaking. However this has dated a bit. Sly is not the most interesting aspect of this group, the instrumentation was always one to listen to. Sly's archer delivery and laboured vocals are not to be treasured sadly
iskreno? blago naporno i nepodnošljivo... al naziv druge pjesme :O
Nah, I'm sitting for this one.
Controversial song or what
Now I know where the 'different strokes for different folks' came from.
It’s not really my type of music and therefore I would normally give this a 1 or a 2 max. It’s really well produced, tho. It sounds funky and cool. So 2.5 stars
Not a bad listen, but not for me.
Highlight: Sex Machine (13 min jamsessie?)
1.5/5 Just not my type of music.
I respect Sly and the Family Stone. Im not a fan of soul music. It’s very repetitive sounding. The verse, pre chorus, chorus, bridge rock n roll format is not what they go by. So the songs feel like they’re repeating themselves.
Album felt long Favorite song was Sex Machine Was very soul funky but isn’t my style
This one probably needs a few more listens. Sure it's funky, but it didn't really stick with me. It must be a classic for a reason, I just haven't figured it out yet. Key tracks: Stand! Everyday People
Ok, but nothing that grabs me.
It was an interesting album but not enough to be memorable
I really wasn't feeling this, had the ingredients for a good funk record but I didn't enjoy any of the songs here
I liked it, but I felt like it went on for way too long.
funky and upbeat. Fun to listen to dang hard R
;Groupe inconnu. =>2/5
Geinig. 2 sterren.
not for me
Didn't like it
This was ok but not really my thing.
1/3. This just bounced right off me, not sure if I just wasn’t in the right mood, but nothing grabbed me. The title track has a good message and there are moments in Sex Machine that sound interesting, but nothing for me otherwise.
Not much to get into here
Not for me but learned where some songs originated
Straight up a vintage club music
iskreno mid, dosadno
Long in the middle. Not for me.
Yeah this got off to a crawling start and never really found its feet did it… Sing a Simple Song however is an absolute banger and I did love some of the funk instrumentals so extra marks for that
Pretty milquetoast
I was bummed when I saw the genre was “funk” but this was moderately better than I was expecting. Still pretty bad though.
He has better
Massive respect. It was really the first intergrated band and their sound has influenced generations. I enjoy it but it is not something I would listen to and it felt more of a chore.
Solid but not really my jam. Mid 2s
The album sounded good. It was a nice time capsule of the late 60s.. Nothing beyond the popular songs or songs that I had heard before jumped out of me but interesting to listen to.
Boring and repetitive. 2/5
2/3
Utterly forgettable.
- puolet albumista kuuntelin sivukorvalla, ei oikein lähtenyt
Yeah this is ok I suppose.
Other than the singles, never did get in tomSly, preferred GCS, Funkadelic, and the Ohio Players, but suppose this is where it starts
So this is an album that's a different culture and a different time for me. I been appreciate a lot about it, and knowing it's context in history is fascinating, but ultimately the music isn't for me.
Couldn’t get into this at all. I can see how it’s important but I found it too frenetic
My hope were high when this album popped up, and more so when i realised everyday people was on it. Unfortunately i found it a bit dull and EP was definitely the stand out track and horribly i actually prefer the Arrested Development version
I think I was expecting to like this a lot more than I did, but a lot of what’s great about it got lost in the madness. “I Want to Take You Higher” and “Everyday People” are obvious standouts but easily forgotten after a 14min instrumental, that had no business going on as long as it did. I understand that Sly was hugely influential, but I don’t think it comes across as clearly here.
Today's album, as reviewed by my teenager (minus the track full of the n word which I deemed for grown ups only): "It sounds like hold music" "It's not awful for some background noise, but they should have hired new lyricists" "There was absolutely no need for a 14 minute song with no lyrics: absolutely awful" "This sounds like Alvin and the Chipmunks" I don't disagree. I like the funkiness, and Everyday People is a classic, but all in all: 2/5
Favorite tracks: You Can Make It If You Try, Everyday People, Stand!
Some classic tracks but then a lot of filler.
Not the vibes
É, mais o menos
Funky but not great
I've had both Sly albums now and I've both times been left underwhelmed, and slightly confused as to why I didn't enjoy them because I usually like this sort of stuff. I preferred the other album to this one. I think the production on this was an issue for me, plus it didn't quite hit the same spots that other funk does for me. I can't appreciate it's influence however, and we definitely wouldn't have had some good music if it weren't for these guys.
Unmemorable
The gem of everyday people in a mess of an album. Honestly, this is the first album that I felt was just noisy that wasn’t a rock centered album.
It was fine
Becomes a bit tedious with the wah wah microphone thingy
Favorite tracks: Everyday people Sex machine
DECENT
Still not my fav genre and for those wondering why I didn’t select specific genres ummm dk.
2,6
I am not a fan of Funk.
ok'ish
Listenable for a whie but not the entire album in one go.
🐣🤷🏻♂️
Only got through about half
It might've been revolutionary at some point in history. But it's not dated well. It didn't blow my mind.
Decent. I was hoping for a bit more funk, but what can you do?
I can imagine this being good at the time, but this is mostly (funky) filler. Awkward at times blasting a certain song at work
I fucking love funk and soul, but I just have no idea why Sly & The Family Stone are so popular. Maybe you had to be there. Poor mastering, even for 1960's 8-track novice recording, boring music, rescued only slightly by the progressive lyrics - the absence of which would've surely seen this album disappear into obscurity.
Enjoyed some of it but the crazy edited voice was not it for me
This could be a Stevie Wonder album. Don't Call Me Nigger, Whitey probably felt to parents in 1969 like gangsta rap felt to my dad in 1989, but just repeating shocking lyrics is like that song on the Limp Bizkit album where Fred Durst says "fuck" 1,000 times. I like some funk. I don't love this though. Somebody's Watching You sounds like a song from Sesame Street, and not in a good way. A lot of this album has been sampled, especially Sing a Simple Song. And Everyday People is a Toyota commercial. There are not many 13 minute songs that work. Sex Machine is definitely not one of them. It may, however, be the soundtrack to Fritz the Cat.
I might be too arab for this. But that's some good soul.
Ganske politisk ladet. Albumet i lengste laget, 58 min langt. Litt langdrygt for min smak.
✨tropical✨
3 / 10 - I found myself getting quite bored, I could see myself potentially liking this album but it didn’t happen
It's just rock I guess. Second track threw me off.
180/1089 - This was kinda really bad. Lots of filler. I'd give it 1 star if it wasn't important to the development of progressive soul music but I decided to respect the history and can see why it was different given historical context.
I usually like them but overall this album was meh for me
Maybe the sound balance in my car isn’t optimized for this album but it just sounded flat. I feel bad for being bored by this and will definitely give it another listen on better speakers one day.
three very talented musicians distract anthony keidis from children
Not quite. 1 great song
Brotha
A lot of noise and not a great amount of substance.
I'm sorry sir I know you just died but I don't like it. It has that late 60s thing I just don't vibe with
Bit ott
Eh. While some of the songs are cool, this isn't one you have to listen to. More Vietnam War draft doging music, but from a black guy this time.
Mehhhh
Jusk ok, nothing special.
Not really my thing
Like okay!!
Funky, kinda boring though
Groovy but maybe not mainstream enough for me. The version I listened to had very much LP sound quality so maybe that affected my listening experience. Also nearly jumped out of my seat when I heard the N word, HARD R, multiple times in a song
I'm curious to know when the average Sly & The Family Stone listens to their music. Is this "driving in a car down the highway" music? Getting drunk with your friends and singing along music? I can't get into funk/soul and would just like to know how best to enjoy it.
Uinspirerande
I really wanted to enjoy this one but I feel like this might have the laziest production ever. It sounds completely flat and missing all the power that the band had. It’s funky as fuck but it sounds like it’s in a garbage can. And “Sex Machine” might be the most pointless track I’ve ever heard on an album.
"Everyday People" is quite o.k. but the rest of the album is not really my jam. 2,5
Eh?
yeah ok i guess. not my kind of music
I think it says a lot that while writing this review I remember literally nothing about this album.
I was expecting to like this more than I did.
It’s fine
Not my vibe
i just could not get behind this. i guess nothing was blatantly off but i just really did not vibe with the album. i can’t even remember liking a single song. can still respect the art though. 2/5.
I was like okay a 3, this is fine. Then track 7 hit and I was like nah. This is getting a 2. It just annoyed me and lasted way too long. Didn't like, sounds made me uncomfortable. The rest of thes songs were never better than meh, so I feel no pressure to give it a better rating than its weakest link.
I have head the band name before but couldn't give you a song name at all. Some of the song names sure are a sign of the time it was written. All that being said the album is a funk/soul album with a few pretty good songs a bunch of songs that makes me want to listen more to the genre. Just not this album or band. There is definitely great things happening in the songs, the brass and singing is really good. It just sort of falls flat for me a lot of the time.
não curti mto
They lost me once during the thirteen minute long sex machine, and then again during my brain. The instrumentals just didn’t hit for me. It was repetitive background music at best. But for the more active songs I could groove a bit, just not realllly my thing
The second track, holyyyy. This really was not my thing though at all. I couldn’t get with it, I didn’t find it fun, or entertaining, and certainly not meaningful or emotional. Or even really that quality. I can understand if this was maybe an influential record and that adding to its merit but it just didn’t do it for me. I will say though, I did groove with sex machine.
I see the appeal but Not a fan
Reading through the reviews; I feel like I'm missing something. I don't get it, and I don't like it. I thought I would. I'm sorry but this doesn't do it for me at all. I understand I'm in the minority, but I'm afraid it's a 2 for me.
Song: Everyday people this song sounds kind of good but not my favorite a lot is going on here like there are so many instruments which makes it sounds good Song: Stand! this song sounds good but not my favorite again because it kind of does not match with the instruments Song: i want to take you higher this song is good this time it actually matches and i also noticed that there is a harmonica in there.
Mix of blues and funk.
Has not held up the best.
Not my stuff...
Didn't really care for it, couple of good songs though.
I didn't liked because i don't understand the concept of the disc. A
Yeah I dont know about this one.
That was definitely not for me. I appreciate the music as technically good but it just didn’t feel interesting at all to me. I’m so surprised by these overwhelmingly positive reviews and I feel like I’m missing something. Well, it’s not the first funk album I can’t get into.
Can see why it was so good, not my style though
Some great songs but nothing really caught me.
Good funky stuff
Not very interesting. Don't recall anything about it, really.
I lack historical and musical awareness to appreciate this. I’ve heard Everyday People and it just doesn’t resonate with me. Sex Machine is making me laugh.
Some good songs but nothing grabbed me.
Wouldn't listen for second time
Funky.
It hasn’t grabbed me as a classic. Not helped by the slightly cheesy title track.
Me ritëm. 4/10
Ilmestymisvuosi on yllättävän varhainen (niin hyvä musavuosi 69!). Toimii, selvä suunnannäyttäjä. Ei kyl mun ominta genreä, joten en osaa fiilistellä kauheesti.
Not bad, pleasant surprise. First song was amazing.
I'm more of a Curtis Mayfield guy
The sound is clearly ahead of its time, and the highs are great, but for whatever reason I was underwhelmed.
Mouldy grandpa funk from the 60s with some supercharged phases but also muffled production, corny pocketful of posies pop melodies and vocals and some absolutely atrocious extended jamming which means that it doesn’t really stand up as a full decent album.
Do you like soul/funk music? Then this album is for you. The only thing I don´t like about this album is the lyrics. Everything else is good they have great beat, they have a great singer and the album cover is pretty cool. I would recommend this album just don´t look at the lyrics.
1st song:it sound so good i really like it i rate like 7/10 2nd song: it sound soo good i rate like 8/10 3rd song:its so nice it sound so good and it always right
Not gif me, found it a bit boring
When I was 16, I took a school trip to France, and the one teacher bought by a crepe because he was impressed that a 16 year old knew 'I Want To Take You Higher' was performed by Sly & The Family Stone (which I knew only because I owned and loved Duran Duran's 'Thank You' album). Anyway, this is a bit too noisy at parts for my tastes. I much prefer Duran Duran. 'Everyday People' is a classic, though.
Gave this one an honest go, and there are some interesting things and a real feeling of time and place. It is chaotic at times. I think I would have loved it if I were around back then. Today…it is all over the place.
Blind album, know the artist and the hit. I'm not sure if I'm just in a bad mood but half this album was fin and the other half sucked. No flow and I was flipping between bopping and wanting to skip tracks.
Cool but clearly not my thang.
For the first half, it sounds like they had written a great album then accidentally released the first draft instead. Empty soundscapes, lyrics that seem like placeholders. Like a jam session, but produced, which means it doesn't have the charm an actual jam session has. The 13 minute long track is taking the mick. Then it hits the single versions. Why aren't these the only versions! They actually sound finished!
Late 60s funk. Pretty standard. Just not my thing. Some interesting instrumentals. Boring.
The instrumentals are clearly meant to be the highlight for Sly, and they are good in some parts, but I can’t say I’ll be returning to this album again.
Jarring at times and funky at other times. Thematically I thought it was all over the place. Musically I thought it was fine and pleasant to listen to. Definitely some recognizable songs here and there. Mid, but not to the level of some of the 3 stars we’ve had on the list thus far.
There’s a lot of funk here, but the times that the beat continuously repeats along with the length is what does it in for me. A couple good songs that could boost this to a three, but I don’t think it’s in that tier as a whole.
I like a few songs from Sly and the family Stone, so I was hoping this album would introduce me to some more. Unfortunately, that's not the case. I still like "I Want to Take You Higher" and "Everyday People", but I really didn't like the rest of the album. This will be a weird one to score.
By repo was excited for this, but really failed to live up to what I’d expected.
This wasn't my favorite. Maybe one or two nice songs but nothing special to me.
I thought I would enjoy this more because I love funk and the album art but not as in love as expectdd
I remember some of these songs as singles when I was a kid. The whole album has that thin late 60s production sound. Album was just okay for me.
Eh, just wasn't that into it.
My favourite line is: "there's a midget, standing tall." I don't like this album. Some grooves that sound cool but last 8 minutes too long. Just doesn't feel like a cohesive album. And the singles are strong. Meh and the family stone.
