I feel like talking heads is similar to U2 in that no one ACTUALLY really loves them…they just feel like they should because everyone else is also pretending and they want to fit in. Not a bad album just very meh.
Love Take Me To The River and all of the instruments are great but again for me it's the vocals not my thing.

For me this all just sounds bland and repetitive.
fun but repetitive
Enjoyable but nothing outstanding
Fine. I liked their Remain in Light album better
Every song sounds the same
Nothing stood out
Ok
Repetitive Maniac, not as good as remain in light, and they are not really post punk
Funky. Fun. Different.
6.8
Whenever I listen to a song of Talking Heads I want to listen more, but then listening to an album I’m often a little disappointed. Saw David live some time back at Rock Werchter and it was amazing, but the recordings are somehow a little meh
Cariño, c'è qualcosa di acido, abbastanza esplosivo. Suono senza bassi come negli anni 70.
6.5/10
Pretty good. Better talking heads albums in the world. 6.9
It’s good but it’s all kind of the same
I don’t have too much to say on this, other than I thought it was good. I think sometimes you can get lost in an albums sound and then you come out the end of it having not discovered any tracks you particularly liked, yet relatively enjoyed the whole thing. So I think the lack of standout takeaway tracks is what makes this not a 4 for me
Grew on me but not my favorite talking heads album. Liked their cover of “take me to the river” and “stay hungry”. All of these songs were new to me though.
The sound seems promising, it feels right on the cusp of new agey. Nothing that really popped out though
Some of their better work, in my opinion. But I’m also not a big fan
3.0 Thought I'd enjoy this album more than I did. Probably would (frequent note by me) if I listened to it 20 times but only had time for 3 listens and just couldn't get into it. Not bad, but didn't love it - 3
Not too memorable. Sounds like the clash
A sophisticated stylistic arty collection that was likely groundbreaking in its day
This one was fine. I liked the one song I knew off this album, but the rest were a bit samesy.
Alright
Good for bopping your head, but doesn't quite go over the hump to be worthy of adding to my digital collection.
Good album, but not my favorite Talking Heads record. Musicianship is great and the songs a pretty good, but I’m not really sure why this album made the list. Don’t get me wrong, I like it, but I would much rather listen to Remain In Light or even Speaking In Tongues.
I like the Talking Heads. Really interesting and creative. However they never seem to fully captivate me. Maybe because the music is so nervy and stressful. Good album, but not one I’m reaching for more than once a year, if that.
FINALLY SOME GOOD FUCKING FOOD. i love talking heads. not their best album by any stretch, but it's so impressive to me how realized their vision was as a band as early as their second record.
Priem
Never less than interesting, but not their most immediate album.
This one right here is the second album by Talking Heads that I've got from the generator; having got the album after this as my first one. ...And I just can't get with it. Which is completely fine, I'm not going to get everything. Talking Heads are definitely talented, no doubt. they are probably one of the best examples of early post-punk and new wave music, they have all the main qualities of the genre/s, they were pretty much the first of their kind. That dance-punk sound was for sure pioneering; it's undeniable. Some other things that I noticed whilst listening: -The Girl Wants... sounds a bit like Obstacle 1 (guitar wise) by Interpol, or more like Interpol yoinked the melody. Some other songs on this album have slight hints but this one is the most -David Byrne's voice on top of sounding like Berlin Trilogy-era David Bowie, Byrne's inflection also sounds a bit like Bruce Dickinson's (Iron Maiden) current live singing style, a bit yelp-styled. Specifically on the live versions of The Trooper and Aces High.
I didn’t mind it. It ticked along nicely enough but I suspect more about the lyrics themselves than the vocal performance. One I’m unlikely to go back to
I enjoyed this at the start, even though i5 was, as an album, just a bit too pleased with itself. It’s smart, it’s funky, but it’s also a bit samey after a while.
Yeah im not sure. not the most inventive melodies.
Difficult to rate this one as its not a Talking Heads album I've listened to really at all. Take Me to the River, I've heard a bunch of times, but not much from the other stuff. Definitely an improved sound and better production than the debut album even if that one has Love Comes to Town, which I very much love. This album definitely got a nice mood to it (should listen high), but I think they've made better. I will have to give this three stars on a first listen, but could sway to four.
A fun, hyperactive set from Talking Heads. It’s got spiky riffs and an anxious and twitchy energy. The band keeps things moving — one relentless rhythm moves right into the next. This is a good album, though not a great one in my book. But it does have their classic version of “Take Me to the River.” 3.5
A well-known band, with unknown songs. Was this a debut album? Not according to Wikipedia. Well, what are you supposed to do with it then?
Thought I would like it more than I did
DNF, I'll come back to this later
Not familiar with Talking Heads but think this is funkier than I expected. Tailed off a little towards the end but pretty good. Will be giving this another listen.
Tina Weymouth: I owe you an apology. I wasn’t familiar with your game. 🔥 Music wise: fine. Trebly-rhythmic guitar got to be a bit too much. Not much interesting going on with drums. Not a fan of the vocals. I’m not a lyrics guy, can’t really comment on that. The “take me to the river” cover was really fun. Seemed a groovy side-step from their main vibe that really fit. Really liked the closing song country/slide guitar vibe. I think I most enjoyed the stuff that was a bit of a departure from their main “sound.”
Fucking Jesus, man. Good record
A solid, enjoyable Talking Heads album where they aren't in spooky mode too much at all. The only song on this that really grabs, me, though is The Big Country.
eh
It was good but also a little weird. Interesting overall. Favourite Song: The Good Thing
very interesting, quite enjoyed this but unsure if its a 3 or 4. will come back to this
I was never a big talking heads fan but this album was better than expected. Not as many weird interludes.
I like the Talking Heads, and I REALLY enjoy this Al Green cover
Listens: 2 Standout Tracks: The Good Thing, Take Me To The River (lol) I didn't give this album enough time to cook in my brain. I only got in two listens and I was occupied with work, so, with the exception of the culturally-pervasive "Take Me To The River", nothing really caught my ear in terms of thorough enjoyment. I had Tom Tom Club's debut album 100 albums back, and enjoyed it enough, even though I am not too keen on New Wave. I have tried to get into the Talking Heads a couple of times in the past. I am familiar with Psycho Killer and Burning Down The House, both of which I very much enjoy. In some ways, I am glad I got one of their albums I've never really heard before (again, besides the infamous Take Me To The River). I have nothing bad to say about this album, but I am not in love with it.
Tight and dry. Claustrophobic? There is a quality to the Talking Heads sound that has always put me off. And David Byrne’s voice is fine for a few songs but maybe not a whole hour. It’s fine. THREE STARS
Okeee begin is zeer veelbelovend.
One of their better albums. I still think Speaking in Tongues is the album everyone needs to hear before they die by Talking Heads, and of course Remain in Light. This one is solid though. 3.25 / 5 stars
It's alright. Its Talking Heads, so you know what you're getting into. Catchy, but all the songs kind of run together.
Later albums are better, IMO, but if you want to hear American post-punk, this is where to start.
Their second album. Post Punk / New Wave. With Our Love is a decent track. Also the drums on this one at one point reminded me of The Sideboard Song. I wonder if Chas n Dave will appear on the list, Ha ! Very nice production on this album. Funky, catchy tunes. The Girl Wants To Be With Girls is another good track. A solid album, liked it.
Not my favorite talking heads album. That's it
God the Talking Heads are so fun. This would have been such a fun album to listen to in the late 70s, sneaking out of the disco and into more progressive rock dance music. David Byrne's voice is one of the most unique in music, and it shines here against the rest of the band's expertise. Eno's hand is on every track and it rules. Fun stuff for sure. Better than a 3, not quite a 4, we round down.
--Thank You for Sending Me an Angel...nice opener with a driving beat --With Our Love...it's definitely a TH song but I don't care for it --The Good Thing...the interplay of the bass and synths is great --Warning Sign...hmm, this sounds like it was made up on the spot. musical improv --The Girls Want to Be with the Girls...synths are the stars here. Lots of nice sounds going on --Found a Job...one of my favorite bass grooves --Artists Only...really like the drums on this one. Other than that this is just kind of there --I'm Not in Love...great opening riff. closes with a sick jam --Stay Hungry...nice synths at the end but it's mostly filler --Take Me to the River...I'll take the Al Green version, thank you --The Big Country...boring and long
They have some songs but overall they don’t do it for me. This one didn’t have any songs.
It’s not my favourite talking heads albums if I’m honest, it’s good, but I don’t even reach for this album, some obvs highlights like take me to the river and the big country
Hyvää musiikkia mutta lauluääni alkaa välillä ärsyttämään. Kuuntelin pätkissä, joten oli ihan hyvä, mutta en ois varmaan kyennyt kuuntelemaan koko albumia putkeen
Fun..but not too fun
Some good ones. Nice palatable album unlike some of their other things. Classic
Objectively not their best album, but sure, Talking Heads rule anyway. No standouts besides Take Me to the River. I like The Good Thing too.
It's the Talking Heads. Fine, not for me.
I was hoping to like this a little more but it just doesn't quite gel with me right now it seems! It is fun, but there's not much I'd listen to more regularly from it. Maybe in the future?
I wish this album had just a bit more going on! It's good, but never hits great
I’m not sure how I feel about this. On one hand, some cool instrumental things going on. On the other hand, the singer annoyed me quite a bit. I think it really hit its stride in side two, with I’m Not In Love being my fav.
I know objectively that this is a good album by a great band, but they range from "mildly annoying" to "pretty good" and spend more time on this album at the first end of that range. Their schtick has always worn a little thin on me and this album is missing the great bass from Remain in Light.
Just ok
Talking Heads. Formed in 1975, did the ultimate concert film/live album and their final tour by 1983, split fairly acrimoniously in 1991. Way ahead of many others. This album showcases how the band definitely influenced the singer - and actually also how the singer was sure to outgrow the confines of the band at some point. As an album, though... Bit of a mixed bag as a lot of the production and vocals are still a bit unrefined somehow.
7/10
First half sounded fine but I just didn't care for it, second half was much better, more aggressive and energetic sounding, enjoyed it and the classic take me to the river.
This Talking Heads was a bit too early for my liking. It was too new wavey. A high 2, rounded up to a 3.
Quirky funky-new wave, punk adjacent album showing the music that the Talking Heads would takeover very soon.
These guys don't click for me
Oh we are so back ! I am a big fan of dark lyrics put to moderately upbeat music (The Smiths being my ultimate fave example of this). Unknown Pleasures is in my opinion, one of the most influential albums to come out of the 70's. After listening fully, which I haven't done since I was a teenager, I'm seeing the album in a very different light, Unknown Pleasures represents the rage, the anger and the frustration. It's Ian's fighting against his feelings, not quite wanting to let go, but not really having any strength to keep going. In my opinion it's a bit colder and more isolated than Closer, Its minimalistic stripped back nature is creating such a bleak feeling. The production is incredibly seductive and attractive in a strange way. With a lot of reverb on the whole mix, the dynamics between Stephen Morris' stellar echoey drums and Peter Hook's addictive bass lines are leading the mix, while the disoriented eerie guitar riffs are surrounding it and creating its isolated cold atmosphere with plenty of feedback. Lyrically the album is immensely tortured , with Ian going head first into themes of loneliness, religion, death & depression (my favourite cocktail). I really enjoyed relistening, although it has set my weekend off in quite a strange way. 3/5 (A full point lost because I hate listening to men complain on my Friday morning) - HF xo Joy Division is one of those bands I heard people talk about but never listened to myself so I'm going into this with an open mind. Opening track has everything of the 70s Brit Pop/Rock formula, opening with a memorable bassline, monotone lead vocals and high tone distorted and almost haunted guitar, iconic for it's time but leaves me little bored. Lyrically dark and with a tone that leaves each track eerily tortured and with an air of doom about it. I can see why folk enjoy this band and I enjoy aspects of it however it leaves me a little underwhelmed overall , don't think I'll give this another listen tbh 2.4/5 MTW Think it’s fair to say that this album fucks, it fucks hard. I haven’t listened to this from back to front in like 5/6 years probably and I actually think I like it more then I did when I first heard it. The bass tones on this album from start to finish are just delicious, great atmosphere throughout, it’s a dark dingy album and it just goes full force into that. Lyrically I think it’s fine, but maybe too much complaining from Ian, have a gaviscon and run a bath dude you’ll be fine by Monday. Standout album of its time and will definitely re visit next time I want a wear a black trench coat and walk menacingly through winter weather. 3.6/5 FTW
Some highlights…
I think I like this album? The vibe overall is good even if the songs didn’t all vibe with me. But overall good.
Not bad. Probably needs a few listens to truly appreciate it.
Pretty good, having only listened to psycho killer it sounds exactly like id expect the rest of their catalog to sound
I'm a bit disappointed to realize that this collection focuses exclusively on Talking Heads' early albums, and really just the debut album (de rigor with this project) and then the three Brian-Eno-produced albums. There's nothing wrong with any of these albums, but it's a bummer that we don't get anything after 1980 from a band that definitely had some evolution over the years. And as much as it's fun to hear their iconic "Take me to the river" (which I had never realized was an incredibly good and unique cover of Al Green's original), it seems like the collection would be stronger with a post-1980 album in place of this one (say, "Speaking in Tongues" or "Little Creatures"). Aside from "Take me to the river," I also particularly enjoyed "Warning signs", "Found a job" and "I'm not in love". And I liked the photomosaic album cover, as well as the quirky album title. Overall, though, this seemed like decent-but-not-great Talking Heads fare; I enjoy listening to them, but there wasn't all that much that screamed "don't die yet!" to me.
Of the first four Talking Heads albums, two are terrific and one, Remain in Light, is a masterpiece. This is the other one.
Fun but repetitive
I like Talking Heads more than I thought I would. They're right on the edge of "too weird". Of the two weird goofball bands from this era, I like them better than Devo. I like Fear of Music better so far. David Byrne's delivery is so distinctive that it sometimes makes all the songs feel like one big piece rather than separate songs. Stay Hungry is not a good song. The basslines sound like the 80s, Blondie and the Pretenders. The cover of Al Green's Take Me to the River isn't as good as the original, but I love a totally unique cover over even a really well done approximation of the original. And they lose me with the snobby as fuck lyrics to The Big Country.
If you asked me to imagine what Talking Heads sounded like, it would probably be this album. I enjoyed listening to it, and was familiar with some of the tracks, but it was just missing something for me - I don’t know what that something is, but their output during the 80s has always been my preference over their earlier stuff.
I feel like I should really absolutely love Talking Heads - I do really like the music and I enjoy the lyrics, I'm just never fully sold on the vocal delivery. And I get that David Byrne's singing is really their USP so replacing that would really be taking away what makes Talking Heads, Talking Heads. It's definitely a "me" problem. That being said, their cover of Take Me To The River is obviously fabulous and I enjoyed everything else, just not as much as I wish I did. 3/5
David Byrne is like the annoying manic theater kid who thinks it’s his job to entertain everyone when you just want him to shut up and go away. The music and band is fantastic though.
Didn’t catch my attention but not bad
This was a good sounding album that could be placed in the mid-2000’s
An album of all Talking Heads songs is a bit aggravating, I'm not gonna lie. They have a fun, quirky sound that makes for listening to some of their hits a cool experience, but listening to mostly mediocre tracks, trying to find the one that kinda hits, is a bit of a chore.
Some funky tunes but David Byrne's delivery is a constant struggle 😐
Not catchy enough for me. Also tough when the best song is a cover!
4 good songs, the rest was alright enough
A little disappointed by this to be honest. Given how revered they seem to be among music lovers, I struggled to find much exceptional about it. It’s good, very listenable, but ultimately a little bit average
Expected to like this more
If you like Talking Heads, you'll like this. Choppy, quirky, layered, interesting lyrics.
*Love the Talking Heads. *Only song I knew was taking me to the river. RATING - 7/10
This is actually more like a 3.8 in my opinion. Solid album but not even in my top 3 from them.
Some good Some 💩
Have definitely heard this band before but this was the first time listening to this album. Will have to listen to more!
kinda nice, 3.5
Quirky and entertaining but no matter how many times I listen to Talking Heads I feel like I just be missing out on something... They are always held up as legends of their time and despite obviously having some really high level creativity I never quite see the brilliance that I feel like other people rave about. This was fun to listen to but I don't think I will search it out again.
Maybe I'm not as into the Talking Heads as I thought I would be. This is my second album of theirs on this project. Its ok. I love Byrne and his style, but I just wish the songs were more interesting. This is the Talking Heads' second album, and I think the first was better. I found it pretty hard to hear the lyrics on a lot of this mix actually. The guitars are pretty good, baselines rock, as usual, but not much else really stands out to be honest. Standouts were "Found a Job" "Stay Hungry" "Take Me to the River" Overall, its not like its bad, its just totally average in my humble opinion. There were some good tracks on the back half of the album, but nothing to really sway me away from an average rating, so another 3/5 for me.
Started out ok, but it grew on me as I listened through. Thank You For Sending Me An Angel was really repetitive, I was worried the album was going to be a slog. With Our Love was also kinda eh. But then The Good Thing came in and saved the album. From there, the album continued fairly nicely. The Girl Wants To Be With The Girls was pretty fun. Had a lull towards the end with I'm Not In Love and Stay Hungry bringing it down. But then Take Me To The River comes on, so much fun! The Big Country is a nice chill ending. Hard to rate, almost a 2, but it's got enough to pull it up to a 3. Best song: Take Me To The RIver
I'm liking this one more than I thought I would. 3 Stars
Enjoyed this, but it didn't grab me to the same degree as Talking Heads 77. 6/10
Better than Coldplay
Couldn't get into this one. Instrumentals were decent, but the vocal work was not hitting right. It was an okay listen overall, but it's not a strong 3.
Never heard most of these songs but enjoyed most of them. He's a vibe...this ain't their best.
an interesting experience
Fine.
I like the faster pace and sound of the electric guitar but I don't love the lead singer's delivery. I know that's kind of his thing but it's not mine.
Nem olyan jó mint gondoltam
They didn’t sing about food as much as I would’ve liked.
A good album, but not the best of his albums, the second half is better than the first, the production is amazing
This album has some of the smoothest transitions I’ve heard in a while. The way the tracks flow into each other feels intentional and energetic. It blends post-punk with a very unique funk sound that gives it its own identity. The production by Brian Eno adds an experimental edge without losing the groove. I give it an 8/10.
More Songs About Buildings and Food didn’t leave a huge impression on me overall, but I’ve got to give credit where it’s due. The cover of “Take Me to the River” is definitely the standout — groovy, weird in the best way, and a clear high point. The rest of the album? Honestly kind of forgettable. Nothing bad, just nothing that really stuck with me after it ended. That said, one thing I do respect is how ahead of its time it sounds. For something released in the late ’70s, it doesn’t feel stuck in that era. It still has a modern, quirky edge that a lot of newer bands try to emulate.
I don’t like most of the songs he’s barely audible over the music but the musics good, the musics very bouncy, not for me. The singer doesn’t sound very good in my opinion. I did like take me to the river though it was different. I also didn’t mind the alternate thank you for sending me an angel 3 stars
Take me to the River is definitely the standout here. Talking heads albums just get repetitive after awhile.
Not my favourite Talking Heads. I think this is a step backwards from their first album and the collaboration with Eno winds up making this whole album into a bit of a bland mess. Musically it’s not bad at all but the vocal mix is muddy and Byrne sounds like he’s singing on the other side of a bathroom stall, nothing is clear and it’s all echoes.
Always love some Talking Heads. Probably not their best work but still enjoyable. Includes Thank You for Sending Me an Angel, Found a Job, and Take Me to the River. David Byrne's singing can get a bit laborious. 6.75/10 (3.375/5)
i have mixed feelings about this one... At times it got me thinking; does all Talking Heads songs sound the same? But also every time I got bored the next song pulled me back in, a perfect middle ground i think.
Very good! I loved the overall vibe of the album. You can definitely tell that it’s an earlier Talking Heads album but in the best way.
Fun album with plenty of toe-tappers, but I’m afraid that as of now, that’s mostly what the Talking Heads are to me. Nothing that stands out as particularly strong
nice energy, but forgettable
Not my favorite TH album. I think that perhaps it's the more straight laced attitude of some of the arrangements, but I do like the dancible side to the sound.
I like some Talking Heads, I don't care for them enough to seek out any of their music. I did learn that Warning Sign is not a Local Natives original song though!
Petty good
Sounds like the Talking Heads. But generally unremarkable
2. I really like the sound of the vocals, the groovey bass line rrally adds something to the sound and engages you 3. The bass is really strong on this album, it really carries the melody/ adds a vital part 7. Definetly experimenting with v9cals and instruments more jazzy influences with eg sax or sth 11. Really nice song such a nice rhythm and sound Overall a funky, soft rock Talking Heads sound. Not much variation/ not many breaks but just enough that it stays interesting. The mostly fast pace throughout helps aswell, it makes it more engaging and flow better also it keeps it interesting before slowing down again at the end to drag it out kina in a good way! Overall the album has a funky, soft rock, Talking Heads sound. The pace and feel stay quite even and similar throughout, but there are nuances pulled from different genres that give it a certain edge and still keep it interesting. Aswell as that, the mostly fast pace throughout helps aswell, it makes it more engaging and flow better, before slowing down at the end to drag- and ride out the finale. The vocals are pleasant and some experimentation make them more interesting aswell. There is some experimentation with more jazzy and funky influences amongst others. The songs’ instrumentals are really carried by the bass, the strong and groovey basslines really support and add a vital part to the melodies. T before slowing down again at the end to drag it out kind in a good way! Overall the album really has nice rhythms and melodies and the bands’ signature iconic sound is rounded off well with nuanced experimental elements.
Sounded very much like other talking heads I was already familiar with. I might have known one song already, but nothing really jumped out. I'm sure if you enjoy talking heads, this album is great; if they're just okay, this album is just okay
Decent all round but few true standouts
More Songs About Buildings and Food- Review- I enjoyed this album, but I really didn’t think it was anything special. The big hit on the album was a remake of Al Green’s and I think it’s another example of how great black artists have their songs appropriated and redone. I’m not saying that the Talking Heads had any intention of doing that, but the fact that the fans dug in more to the Talking Heads song, than Al Green’s version of Take Me to the River is sort of sad. There’s a couple trucks on here that I like, but I really like the later Talking Heads stuff a little bit more. You could say it’s more commercial, but I think it’s also more diverse. I listened to this album twice today and the songs sounded pretty similar throughout.
Meh, het bestaat
I liked the album and I would happily just put on to listen the whole way through again (and would have on if having people over). Take me to the river was the one that stood out this listen, which I feel a bit bad about as it's a cover.
Lost my original notes! Great riffs, strong beat, lots to love here. Loved the tracks as they came up, and noted a good few as they came up. I enjoyed the listen but in hind sight nothing moved me emotionally. High 3
Strong album, very varied. Not as strong as some of their other albums
Not their best album, but some flashes of brilliance
It is fun to listen to this early album and hear how their unique sound was being developed.
My favorite song wasn't even a Talking Heads song, just a cover of Take me to the River
Definitely better than their other, more experimental album.
Spazzy post-punk that I think improves on their debut. The opener is an all-timer, but I think the tracks are a bit mixed and the Take Me to the River cover is just ok. Better things to come, for them!
Ok tô voltando a gostar mais deles
Fine
A solid album with the signature Talking Heads funk-punk-pop(???) sound, though none of the songs really grabbed me. Best song: Take Me to the River
This was alright, I like Talking Heads. A lot of similar tempo song in this which makes it feel a bit samey, but all decent.
Hard to not find David Byrne at least a little interesting.
Not the best of the Talking Heads
Not the best Talking Heads album but still good
Freaky vocals 7/10
easy to listen to
It’s a solid 5/10. It had some good hits but the misses were really bad like the whole middle of the album was terrible. 1) I’m not in love 2) Stay Hungry 3) Thank You for Sending Me an Angel
This was ok, like most Heads albums I really enjoy 3 or 4 songs with the rest sounded very similar.
I have learned now after two of their albums that I am not a Talking Heads fan. Sure “Burning Down the House” is a banger but the two albums we’ve had from them have not lived up to the hype. They should be glad they’re getting a 3 and not a 2 here. Byrne’s voice is not great and I can’t understand anything he says. They’re just so weird and artsy it’s not for me.
I enjoy Talking Heads but this was not a great album. they are moving more into their style & sound, but this is pretty ho-hum. was nice to enjoy while walking but won't seek out to listen to again
I like the idea of Talking Heads more than the execution….
Pretty good, just something about talking heads that I'm not massively into. I did enjoy it though and would listen again.
Not the best Talking Heads Album I heard though I enjoy this quite a bit
It was enjoyable. It brought me back to my teenage years for some reason.
ok. some nice tunes
I really liked this, but it also made me realise why I've never fully embraced Talking Heads: I just don't like David Byrne's voice. I feel bad about it, but it just grates with me. Sorry, David.
Talking Heads is one of those bands I always think I absolutely hate and then I listen to them and they don't bother me as much as I thought they would. In fact I kinda liked this.
I don't know what it is, but I just can't get into most Talking Heads.
Talking Heads are always a decent listen. Not my favorite of their albums, but still pretty interesting.
Don't like the singers voice. Like everything else. The big country is a funny song
That they went to art school is the least surprising fact about this band.
It was ok.
I always enjoy Talking Heads brand of experimental music. It still sounds good even though it can be a little weird, unlike other experimental bands that are too discordant for my taste. That said this album just felt pretty average. 3.5 stars
Lots of anti-suburb lyrics. Great musical sound. I can never really get past David Bryne's voice though. It's just a little too weird for me. Some catchy tunes but I feel like David kind sings like we're all marching or something, interspersed with some screaming. A point off for David, plus another 1/2 point off for not being like "I love this"!
Its... enjoyable. Idk why but talking heads reminds me of lactic acid after a workout.
Standout Songs: With Our Love The Girl Wants to Be with the Girls I’m Not In Love Take Me to the River Pretty funky album although I wasn’t fond of the vocals
Fun but a bit odd
I find myself interested in the Talking Heads moreso than enjoying the music. They become background noise after awhile, but I’m into the quirkiness. 6/10
Some of this was great and some of it I could barely get through. I don’t know…
As weird as their sound is, the Talking Heads are unique. It's difficult to mistake their songs for any other band. This album isn't my favorite by them, but it still rocks pretty hard.
New Wave / Post Punk This is the second album from Talking Heads and the first of their legendary collaborations with Brian Eno. Released in 1978, it built upon the minimalist nerviness of their debut but added more polish, texture, and rhythmic complexity. The title is famously ironic—it literally is more songs about buildings and food, poking fun at critics who said their music lacked emotion. The album includes their first hit: a funk-infused cover of Al Green’s “Take Me to the River.” Eno’s presence marks the beginning of the band’s shift toward more experimental territory. This was a decent new wave album, nothing offensive or polarising just okay. 6.0
I've always appreciated Talking Heads for their uniqueness but other than a few songs I really like they're not really my style. This album had some pretty good tracks and some eh ones, overall decent though
Another Talking Heads album that sounds so uniquely Talking Heads. Part of it is David Byrne's vocals, but also no other artist comes close to their unusual new wave, punk, avant style. More Songs About Buildings And Food might be the Talking Heads' most accessible album yet because there's a frequent pop aspect. An intriguing listen that I'm glad I heard, but I wouldn't discount anybody who says this album didn't offer something different than their others. Fun fact: This album cover is indeed a bunch of Polaroids, which are now housed at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. When the Hall received the Polaroids, they arrived unsorted in a shoe box.
Talking Heads is always kind of hit or miss for me. On an album, I tend to like a chunk of the songs, but the rest usually just don't quite hit and/or are relatively forgettable. This album unfortunately continues that trend and really kind of solidifies for me that I am not much of a Talking Heads fan outside of their big hits. For instance, I'm absolutely obsessed with "Take Me to the River", it's a funky listen. But it's also the album's biggest hit, so no surprise there. I know Talking Heads are a big deal in new wave music, but after four albums and still feeling largely indifferent about them, I hope this is the last Talking Heads album. I'll just stick to a greatest hits album from them and I'll be good. Low 3.
I had never realized that some of these songs belonged to this band.
talking heads have better
Talking Heads has a pretty unique sound. I'm not much of an audiophile or music nerd, but I can pretty confidently recognize a David Byrne piece, even without him singing. I liked listening to this. It was always interesting. I didn't connect with it, however. It's not something I'm going to buy, but it is good. I don't know how to review something like this, as it's probably the most fun I've had with an album while having very little desire to listen again.
Not a bad ride, and now I know where big mouth Billy bass got his favorite song.
Better than "77" (which we just reviewed a couple of days ago), but still not as good as "Remain in Light" or "Speaking in Tongues." I'll return the half-star that "77" was docked for David Byrne's overuse of "Ay ya ya ya ya YAAHH".
Enjoyable but the songs rarely build to anything meaningful and mostly just meander.
I'm sure this would become a 4 with further listens but it sounded quite ploddy at times. Loved Take me to the river but was already familiar with that.
We're talking Talking Heads. Funkar till vardags.
I really enjoyed 'Thanking you for sending me an angel'. The others were all nice. But they all seemed very similar.
This is certainly where they found the sound we still remember them for. But better albums were to follow.
2.75/5 enjoyable but forgettable
It's not my favorite Talking Heads album but it's still pretty enjoyable and in their signature style. I probably wouldn't listen to it very often because I have heard their work so much. Not complaining though because it's still a great album.
Very 80s Some great tracks but ultimately blends together Take me to the river is great but a cover
Another fine album from Talking Heads. Some great stuff, and some that is just ok. Seriously though, I’m not 100 albums in yet. I don’t need three Talking Heads albums so concentrated. I think this list would benefit from diversifying the artists a bit more.
Very good album despite not having any of the well know hits
Realistically, I should enjoy Talking Heads way more than I do. They’ve got the talk-singing similar to Devo and the B-52s and jangly guitars like The Smiths and R.E.M., but the Heads go a bit too far. They’ve are a bit too jangly, and a bit too theatric for my typical taste in New Wave bands. I just can’t seem to get Byrne’s voice to sync with my vibes and the jangles are just too jingly. 3.3/5
Bello ma non mi sta lanciando. Parti strumentali più belle di quelle vocali. Come si direbbe su altri lidi: scaffale

Enjoyable distinctly sounding groove from talking heads
It was something
Didn’t listen
not my favourite talking heads album, but still pretty good. i’d say strong 3/light 4 because it drags on a bit in the middle imo
It’s interesting to think that bands today do not have the luxury of developing over time. If there isn’t an instant hit, they do not get support and are dropped. I’m glad TH were allowed to develop and make some fantastic music.
I like Talking Heads but was a bit underwhelmed by this one.
Some good tunes. Not my favorite talking heads record but no complaints.
Parece mais empolgante do que realmente é!
good
Good. Not on a par with fear of music but take me to the river is a standout track. Feels like a transition to the more experimental albums which were to come.
Some worthwhile highlights on this record, as you'd expect with Talking Heads. 'Take Me To The River' is a fantastic cover, and is a great example of Byrne's dynamic and versatile vocals. There is quite a lot of flak on this album though, which makes the overall experience bloated and muddled. Best Tracks: - Take Me To The River - Thank You For Sending Me An Angel - Found A Job Worst Tracks: - With Our Love - The Girl Wants To Be With The Girls Rating: 6/10
3/5
This is probably my favourite Talking Heads record I’ve listened to, I’m still not overly impressed though. While it’s definitely groovy, it’s just lacking in diversity imo. The Talking Heads always have the same sort of rhythm and it just keeps going, at least that’s what it feels like, not completely fair. But after all, this is enjoyable music.
Like. Not too attention-grabbing, for me.
Not the best Talking Heads album by a long shot. But still awesome.
Innovative for the time, I suppose. Not my bag but they definitely helped move music in the right direction. Plenty of ska influence here if you were to ask me.
Good album but nothing reached out and grabbed me as an amazing song. I listened while I was driving and it kept becoming background music until Take Me To the River came on. Basslines were unique and guitar rhythms were interesting. Sorta meh on this one. 2.5
All kind of sounded the same to me
Good stuff! 3.5/5
This was solid. Interesting and innovative sound.
Heard it before. Never thought of it as an essential Talking Heads album so it's a bit strange to see it on the list. But anyway, still quite a good album 3/5
It’s good. A little dated, but still good.
I know they were groundbreaking. And I liked this more than the other Talking Heads albums on this list. But still just a 3 for me.
great stuff
Interesting but not my jam
I enjoyed it, never consciously having heard it before.
Favorite track: Take me to the river other picks: Thank you for sending me an angel, artists only
The album is totally "meh". I have a hard time taking Talking Heads seriously.
It's been a bummer to realize I'm not really a Talking Heads fan. Love their singles, which I think lead me to expect more of them - quirky, trend-transcending awesomeness (Psycho Killer, Burning Down the House, Girlfriend is Better, Once in a Lifetime). Instead, the full albums just leave me totally underwhelmed. Maybe my expectations were too high.
Fun, bouncy, but also kinda repetitive and boring. Other than a couple standouts it didn’t do as much for me as remain in light.
This wasn't too bad. I liked their vibe and their sound.
I've listened to other Talking Heads albums, and I'd say there are better ones.
Rock, Pop, 1978 -> 3
Some good songs, some not so good songs. I enjoyed it but not as much as van halen
Average album, peaked at the 1st song which is always disappointing Individual scores 1: 4/5 2: 3/5 3: 3/5 4: 2/5 5: 3.5/5 6: 3/5 7: 2.5/5 8: 3.5/5 9: 3/5 10: 3/5 11: 3/5
Musically o.k. but on most of the songs the vocals are annoying. "Take Me To The River" secures them the very weak three stars for me. 2,5
Not my favorite from them
Kind of entertaining after several listens. Nothing outstanding though. One of these albums that are fine but with no real soul
норм.
flows together well, but nothing immediately grabbing
Not my favourite TH album
First heard this 6 years ago and it’s still not one of my favorite talking heads albums, but I’m always up for listening to it
I’m Not in Love introduces the African rhythms to their sound and they never look back. Very, very underrated track.
Seems ahead of its time for the late 1970s.
Interesting album, it doesn't contain any of the many hits the band have produced, but it's still a strong outing. The album is filled with fast guitar riffs, interesting bass lines and non-linear lyrics, typical of the New wave style. It's dynamic and fun to listen to, with plenty of substance. Was between a 3 and a 4, I know the band has even better albums, so I'm giving this a 3.
More Songs About Buildings and Food". "More Songs About Buildings and Food" me donne surtout envie de ranger ma bibliothèque par ordre alphabétique. Take Me to the River" d'Al Green.
This is an alright album for just having it playing in the background but definitely not too great for proper listening. Nothing really happened in the songs, it was a bit meh, but given that it came out in 1978, it was probably cool back then.
Favourite songs: Take Me to the River, The Good Thing, With Our Love, Artists Only, Stay Hungry, Thank You for Sending Me an Angel Least favourite songs: Warning Sign 3/5
Some good tunes but then it felt like a lot of "filler" songs
Good album, but not quite enough going on for me. Would have liked less guitar and vocals and more from the rest of the band
You definitely know what era this is with this album.
- Nicht auf Spotify, YouTube it is!
A lot of great ideas, but not something I'd listen to regularly.
i like talking heads
Maybe not my favorite Talking Heads album, but I enjoyed it a lot.
Take Me to the River cover 10/10 rest of album meh
Funny album... Interesting...
it's interesting, not brilliant, but unmistakably Talking Heads
No bad, not wowing me.
Not my taste, not bad.
Fine. Not the biggest Talking Heads fan to begin with. Album really picked up after the first 2-3 tracks, but I'm not loving the ending as I'm writing. Probably worth coming back at some point when/if I want to listen to it with a more attentive ear. 7/10. Not bad.
High threes, maybe not their best? Still very good.
You For Sending Me an Angel / The Big Country Calificación: 7.05
Yep, that's a classic. I'd have played this even if it weren't an assignment.
This is a cool album, but I definitely prefer Speaking in Tongues and Remain in Light out of the Talking Heads albums I've heard.
Great cover of take me to the river
Liked it, unsure if I'd listen again
One of my least favorites from them. It's ok.
There are a few Talking Heads songs I will enjoy listening to, but those are mostly from a little bit later in the 80s. And part of the enjoyment comes from the sort of quirkiness that this album lacks. It just feels like they weren't quite there yet with their sound. I didn't hate it but it--it was just kind of "meh." Not surprisingly, the song I dug the most was the one with the most listens on Spotify and also the only single from the album, a cover of Al Green's "Take Me to the River."
Maybe I've been too harsh on talking heads before. Dragged on a bit too long for 4 stars
Talking Heads - More Songs About Buildings And Food Another album coming from the legendary band Talking Heads, with once again a consistent good album to listen to. It features some country elements and turns it around making it more interesting and appealing to hear. Thankfully, their lows are not as low, while it's highs are it's highest on here. Overall, this is good! 1.- Thank You for Sending Me an Angel = 7/10 2.- With Our Love = 7/10 3.- The Good Thing = 8/10 4.- Warning Sign = 7/10 5.- The Girls Want to Be with the Girls = 8/10 6.- Found a Job = 10/10 7.- Artists Only = 9/10 8.- I'm Not in Love = 7/10 9.- Stay Hungry = 8/10 10.- Take Me to the River = 8/10 11.- The Big Country = 8/10 FINAL SCORE: 7.9/10
I like the Talking Heads generally a lot more than I like this particular album. Thanks, again, Brian Eno.
As usual, good but not great.
Not bad. Was an album and was music 5/10
You know… it’s never been my favorite. It’s got some good highlights, but not enough to blow me away. When I look at the songs in this album, I ask myself how many of my very favorite Talking Heads songs are in this? Not that many.
Pretty fun! 3/5
2 Favorite songs - take me to the river - thank you for sending me an angel Genre i thought it was: classic rock What genre it was: new wave, post-punk and art rock Fun facts Brian Eno producerede det
I like the instrumentals, interesting voice, some themes seem like I could delve into them but I'm not really sure what they mean.
Great fun!
The early Talking Heads, e.g. Take me to the river, foreshadow the further development
They’re different. They’re having fun. I’m glad someone is.
I enjoyed this honestly a lot more than I expected. I didn’t really know what to expect but it was a fine album. Probably not something I’d go back to but I can see why people love it. Really probably a 3.5. The instrumentation is great.
Not Talking Heads best. Again, comparing it to other albums.
Fun and quirky!
You ever have a guy that all your friends were convinced you should like but you just didn’t click with? He’s fine. You don’t ever avoid him. He doesn’t make a party worse. You believe your friends when they tell you that he’s great. You even occasionally have a truly excellent three minute interval talking to this guy. But if you literally never saw him again, you wouldn’t notice unless someone else mentioned it. Talking Heads are perpetually that guy and this album did nothing to change that fact.
Correcto
Another day another talking heads album
