Not feeling it
Good, but exhausting.
This album was fine, a bit repetitive but easy enough to listen. Only knew ‘Take me to the River’. 2.5/5 middling album
Take Me to the River best Song
Sounds like the Talkin Heads, nothing special here. 3/5.
I mean pretty decent i guess, everything kinda sounded pretty much ch the same the whole album though. Vocals kinda whiney
More songs about random ass thing lol. These guys have a fun writing style. Not exactly I would actively seek. But fun every now and again.
Extremely Talking Heads.
This was pleasant and inoffensive, though a bit benign. I listened to it probably 5 or 6 times waiting for some kind of opinion to form, but it never really happened. Ultimately, this will go in the bin of 3’s that didn’t necessarily leave a bad impression, but probably won’t ever be revisited. 3/5 Highlights: I’m Not in Love
okay, some good tunes
Good time, good shit, kinda mid. Talking Heads can do better. 3/5
I like Talking Heads quite a lot but I never want to come back to this one. There's something kind of annoying about it, With Our Love comes to mind, as the verses kind of put me on edge (which I'm guessing was probably on purpose) in a way I don't like and it's not enjoyable to listen to. The first half relies a bit too heavily on staccato guitars and so a lot of it sounds quite samey. The album picks up a bit in the second half though, tracks like Take Me To The River are a lot better The subsequent 3 albums are leagues better overall. 3.5 Highlights: The Good Thing, Take Me To The River, Artists Only
Certainly not the best Talking Heads album and to be fair actually quite forgettable.
I am a Talking Heads fan, so I've heard this album before. I don't think there's a ton that separates this Heads album with others from before or after it, in fact I find it less appealing than "TH 77", "Speaking In Tongues" or "Remain In Light". "Take Me To The River" is a cover but it's a standout since they made it their own and it groooooves! Favorite track "Stay Hungry" after the aforementioned "TMTTR". I'd argue that not a single track on this album made their best of, meaning it's not a fan favorite nor does it have radio appeal. I found Byrne's vocal a bit high on some of the songs and the music not as adventurous or funky as other albums. It's not a Top 1001 for me.
Every song sounds the same
Good enough. Nothing stand out. Prefer some of their other work
Good. Decent. British.
Love the Talking Heads but other albums are way better.
wAS ok
It's ok, but it all sounds the same.
There were a few songs I liked on here. "Warning Sign", through "Artists Only", and then the cover of "Take Me To The River". So really just the middle and the cover. Probably not my typical go to sound for music but I did really enjoy the tracks that I do.
Favorite Track: Take Me to the River
legal
Probably a classic, but Talking Heads really doesn’t do it for me
ok
This album didn't really do anything for me. It was fine. But I won't come back to it.
Yeah it's okay. Good production, couple memorable songs. Don't see what the big hubbub is about Talking Heads. They're fine but nothing super spectacular
Good music, weird vocals. Pretty much their tagline.
This album is tight as anything, great rhythm section and it has a nice energy. My only problem (a personal thing) is that I find David Byrne's voice quite a-musical, almost robot-like in character. And it's right upfront in the mix so it dominates strongly. Which is probably exactly the intent and it does "work" but I get tired of it for an entire record. But I have to say this album is perfectly good in many ways.
The talking heads are mid. There, I said it. This is my third album now and nothing has jumped out at me as a great song. Totally serviceable but just not my thing.
Decent album, I wasn't excited about any of the songs but they didn't irritate or overstay their welcome.
I love Talking Heads, but this just isn't my favorite of theirs by a bit.
3.5 - I enjoyed!
Didn't hate it but felt like it all just sound like one song.
This really did nothing for me.
A very clean mashing of Eno and the band for the first attempt. A good album that shows their bright future and artistic direction, but does not exceed its rating
ta;lk
I found this super interesting because all the pieces that made the talking heads great are there. It just kinda sucks still. 6/10 Almost great.
I kinda like the Talking Heads more the older I get. But David Byrne's singing style is not my favorite.
2,5
This is very interesting and the music seems to have layers. No songs are jumping out at me really but it’s a good album that seems to be another grower. Musically I really enjoy it but the vocals arnt my favourite thing in the world 3.5/5
Quite a decent listen, 3.5*
This one didn't really win me over but it was OK.
An average album for me. Started off strong but a lot of the songs sounded the same and were repetitive. OK but probably won’t come back to it.
l‘ve just listened to this recently. It's a fun album. among these songs I prefer 'Artists Only' and 'Stay Hungry'.
Good album.
Groovy and odd
Very long and kinda blends Enjoy David Byrne
Yep. Sounded unusual at the time. Byrne's distinctive voice buoyed by a bouncy band.
Funky electronic beats - not my favorite Talking Heads work
Someone said this is dork rock and I concur. David Byrne’s vocals either tickle your brain or really annoy you. This was a pleasant listen as I land in the tickle camp. The good thing was my fave cuz as odd as it is, I just can’t help but hear it as him repeating affirmations a therapist told him in this odd cadence lol. Idk it just tickles me.
Repetitive tracks and lyrics - nothing that really stands out, at least to me. Good musicians and OK vocal.
I’d listen to this again. High 3
All the songs sound the same - kind of like a tame Led Zeppelin with a mix of the Clash
Lacking hits like on prior and latter albums. Sounds pretty good overall. They were still finding their sound.
Man idk I know i should like Talking Heads and I do, like the best songs by them are amazing, but the albums do not hit. I'm gonna keep trying, it has happened many times where albums or artists grew on me, but this wasn't that time.
While I like the band, I do think they have better albums than this one. It feels a bit bland and doesn’t really stand out as something special.
Some of these were great, but I'm not going to sit around listening to this whole album. 3.4.
I think I screwed myself by listening to Remain in Light first because everything I hear from Talking Heads now will be compared to it. that being said I liked some songs on here, no doubt, but it's just more overall good rather than great to me
Decent, but not my favorite.
Twinkly, jazzy intervals that are very listenable. Good, interesting production. Weird but well executed vocal performances
Talking Heads are a staple from my youth. I’ve always liked them, but have never loved them. They also seemed to have a new album at every turn. Solid but a bit tired for my taste.
probably not for me. don't really get the appeal
I like this album a good bit more than their next album, Fear of Music. I've listened to Fear of Music on and off for 30 years now, and I don't get it. But even though this is better, it's not going to get over the "7 out of 10" hump, and as usual, I'm rounding down. Talking Heads are an artist (like many others) who have a lot of great songs, but I don't know that they have a truly great album.(Maybe I'm overlooking one.)
I love Talking Heads but this, for me, is the lesser of the Eno trilogy.
Who doesn't like the talking heads but it is not the best album (still good though)
Classic talking heads album, some good, some boring. Take me to the river goes hard
Yeah good but not great, only one head was talking
Fun and funky, couple tracks on here had me bobbin my head but it’s no psycho killer
It's interesting to hear the direction they started to take with this album, after a debut album that was more raw. Somehow about half the songs were a bit irritating to me, but some were real gems, even though the album seems to be pretty coherent.
TIL that Talking Heads were American. One of those bands I’ve always felt I ought to like more than I do.
Not a huge Talking Heads guy. This was alright though.
The Heads have some of the banging-est bangers of their era, but everything else just feels like tucked in music for folks who eternally think they're the smartest people in the room
Not my fave Talking Heads album but still alright!
This is a band I wouldn't know how to describe, but Spotifiy uses art-school punk and that seems so appropriate. There is something very mainstream about them but also artistic and unique, likely why they are so popular. I don't know how to describe or explain them or the feelings I get from their music, so I can't say what it is I like or don't like exactly. The mainstream factors are missing so its hard to explain. Love Take me to the River. Beyond the hit for me in some songs it seems perfect, Found a Job, Stay Hungry and Artists Only, I didn't feel left wanting. But others (I'm Not in Love) just seemed like they were missing something or didn't make me feel full and left me wanting. Overall they are unique, different, talented and I am sure they hit certain people just right. For me it was hit and miss, but I just don't know why (but that might be what they are going for)
I liked the first Talking Heads album (Talking Heads 77) but didn't care for this one as much. I don't think it's recorded very well. The vocals are too muffled and reverby. The songs aren't as catchy as their first album. There are many parts that I like but the sum of those parts don't really gel into a good album.
I had higher hopes for this. There is far stronger Talking Heads music. Almost feels like abstract art.
Ok
I have never before listened to a Talking Heads album in full. It was fine. I am a little disappointed that I only think it was fine.
I can't decide whether this is good or not. They have a style of their own, can see people being super into this but not one id revisit. 3*
Can only handle a little of Talking Heads at a time. Full album is too much. Next
It was ok; not sure i’d listen to again.
fav tracks: found a job, with our love thoughts: best David B. ive heard so far
I am coming to appreciate the Talking Heads and David Byrne a bit more as I hear albums in their entirety. Great musically, but, I don't always relate to the songs lyrically and Byrne's delivery. Still, some notable songs on this album including "Artists Only", "Take Me To The River" and "The Big Country".
yeah that was a talking heads album
The start of something interesting
Thank You for Sending Me An Angel - 6/10 With Our Love - 7/10 The Good Thing - 5/10 Warning Sign - 3/10 The Girl Wants to Be With the Girls - 6/10 Found a Job - 5/10 Artists Only - 7/10 I'm Not In Love - 8/10 Stay Hungry - 5/10 Take Me to the River - 4/10 The Big Country - 7/10
Musically this was an interesting one. Well crafted, slinky post punk/new wave stuff. Very tight band. But I realized that David Byrne’s vocals are kind of hit and miss for me. Don’t think this is one I’ll be returning to on a regular basis.
I generally like the Talking Heads and this album is likable but not really memorable.
Not the best Talking Heads album I've ever heard, but still interesting and worth the listen, as well as a few songs that are totally worth a repeat listen. It's a testament to the quality of Talking Heads that even a 'mediocre' album like this is still worth the time to explore.
Just comes up a little bit short
Pretty samey, don't mind it
So, Talking Heads feel like a unique band, but one that I struggle with at times. I like some songs a lot, such as their version of Take Me to the River. In fact, the second half of the album is generally more enjoyable than the first. Many songs can feel repetitive and I get bored, and want to skip. They're definitely creative, but the album feels very hit and miss.
3.5/5
Enjoyable overall but not super crazy about it. Enjoyed the colorful instrumentation and production but it didn’t really pull me in all that much. Really don’t see myself returning to these songs and certainly not the album overall. Found the vocals to be grating on some tracks too. Just not my thing atm
It was ok. It was Talking Heads. Kind of weird.
As much as I love the title of this album, I was quite bored through it all. I'm feeling badly that I didn't enjoy the Talking Heads as much as I thought I would, but also that maybe we didn't need all of their first four albums. (There were better early albums and I think there were later albums that were more distinctive and that I quite liked!) I just didn't get anything there that I loved. "Take Me to the River" is the one hit I knew, and it is probably one of my least favorite of the Talking Heads hits.
For the plane ride, this was quite alright. Again, it surprised me how much my displeasure for Talking Heads seemed to wane in my older years. However, when I took a listen to the highlight reel this morning before I made my rating, it was a challenge for my ears. Must simply depend on the day/setting how much I can enjoy Talking Heads.
It's fine.
In this project I’ve greatly grown in my appreciation of Talking Heads. But this album underwhelmed me a bit. I didn’t feel it was as good as some of the others. It was very expected to me. Nothing stood out on it as much and I was just left feeling whelmed. Nothing bad here, but it isn’t going to be a go-to Talking Heads listen for me.
Interesante álbum pero not my cup of tea.
Great to listen to while studying. I played chess
It's okay. David Byrne sounds suitably bonkers- I like that. Not a bad album, but also didn't make me want to listen again, particularly. But I admire their style.
Talking Heads are instantly recognisable. They sound like nobody else, and nobody ever sounded like them, which is a good thing. I like their fidgety sound and interesting lyrics, and bought later albums. 'Take Me ToThe River' stands out, a cover and the only track I know well. An album that deserves more listens and the rating could go up but I don't have time now!
Pretty good. Feels like they were still finding their sound a bit with this album. Talking Heads are at their best when they’re groovy and there was a fair bit of that here. Strong 3 but didn’t wow me enough for a 4.
solid
It’s alright
I mean OK. But just OK. Fine for the time, no longer really needed.
Good album but I have heard better talking heads than this
My friend Chris really likes this band so I better not be too harsh. Actually I enjoyed this album, it was upbeat and catchy. Particularly liked ‘I’m not in love’, but the vocals were a little drowned out? The lead singer was difficult to understand at times and I hate having to pay attention!
Just sounds like any Talking Heads album
Cool enough. Byrnes voice is a little thin yet, they don't quite create the soundscapes nor scale the heights they do elsewhere.
Synth sounds are very unique and melodic. no real hits on this album but a solid, no miss album
It was a talking head album. It was uniquely that.
Another Talking Heads album. Good in small doses, but it's appeal fades quickly. Individually good songs, but too much all at once
Not my cup of tea, but I completely understand why this has the acclaim it does.
Thank you for Sending Me an Angel and of course Take Me to the River but otherwise “meh.”
High quality but boring to me Good for background music Interesting vocal choices but dated
This was an album where I had an idea of what I was getting to, but had more fun than expected. The Talking Heads brought all of the fun of the new wave era and I found a few sounds out side of the Billy Big Mouth Bass classic, “Take Me to the River”…this was highlighted by the upbeat “I’m Not in Love”, which was promptly added to a playlist or two. This is an album you’ll need to hear if you’re into (or getting into) the new wave sound.
`Am sure there will be more Talking Heads / David Byrne to come. Funky, spiky with Byrne's unique delivery - you know what you're going to get here. If it's their second album, then I'm not sure it's truly revolutionary, sounded a lot like the first album to me.
Never really been into the Talking Heads, although there was some groove to this album I would bother again
Not the best from Talking Heads but still good.
Very good new wave album by Talking Heads, the first produced by Brian Eno. I like the tight playing, great bass lines. However, it is not as great as other albums by them, not that memorable. Maybe I'm too strict here that I compare it those albums, so I'm giving it a 3.5/5, rounded to 3 overall.
Consistantly good but no stand out tracks for me. Tina kills it as always
Not especially memorable, but decent enough. I like it less than a couple of their other albums, but not by much. Sounds ahead of its time in a way - a clear influence on a huge number of 80s bands and artists.
So far, 2 tracks in, I am ???? about this album. The Good Thing has got me bobbing my head. Same with Warning Sign, and I love the walking bass! I liked it better before the vocals came in tho Same with The Girl Wants to be with the Girls - I like the instrumentals but not the vocals Ditto for Found A Job. I really like the guitar and bass on this one. This is probably my fave song on the album so far, although it is dragging on a bit. I like Artists Only! It’s got a good beat! I like the opening of I’m Not in Love. New fave of the album so far! I really enjoy the chorus too. I like the instrumentation on Stay Hungry I like Take Me to the River! The Big Country is fine, I don’t love it or hate it. This album wasn’t really my thing, but it was alright
Całkiem niezłe. Takie gitarkowe plumkanko na 3.
Not bad, unlikely to revisit but pretty interesting on the whole
It's alright
Angular, punchy, stacatto dancy stuff all backed by the distinct tones of David Byrne. Solid stuff that I thought I would have heard more about in the DFA driven 00s. I liked it, didn't love it. You could do some good re-edits though.
The take me to the river cover is a banger. The rest of the album is typical talking heads, I like the vibe but I kind of find myself passively listening or thinking of other stuff
I've been getting really into Post Punk, Dance Punk and specifically LCD Soundsystem. The opening song to this album seems like clear inspiration for LCD Soundsystem. I grew up listening to Talking Heads because my parents were big new wave/post punk/synth pop fans but I've never listened to this album. I'm really happy to give this one a go. One of my main complaints about this record is that there are a handful of songs that could have been cut. It doesn't need to be an hour long.
Dave is weird. There was nothing like this in the 70s, that gets you on the 1001 list. There’s still nothing quite like this 45 years later, that also gets you on the 1001 list. Album has a great 3fer finish. And they just get better, way better as time goes by and they mature. Ya either like em or ya don’t. I like em a lot (3.1*s)
Two great songs and the rest are ok. For as great as TH are at their peak and in a live format, they do make some generic B grade songs
Ok - not my favourite album of theirs
The Big Country was enjoyable, but the rest didn't have the same feeling.
Some good, some not so good.
I'm not a huge Talking Heads fan, but there's a nice arc to this album, which isn't super-pretentious.
It was okay, nothing special
Talking Heads proves to be interesting lyrically, but not an entire album worth of catchy lyrics mesh with the music. 3/5 with the potential for 4 after another listen
worst decade but this album had some grooves.
it was okay.
A real funky sounding album. Unfortunately after a while the songs start to kind of blend together and frankly the lyrics aren't great. But overall a really fun album to put on.
Yes, there are some Talking Heads songs that I like. But I can't find one on this album. Maybe it's because of the current circumstances, the album annoyed me from time to time. I won't be listening to it again any time soon. 3/5
I appreciate Talking Heads, but I'm just not that into it.
I didn't get to pay it much attention, but it didn't really stand out
I DON’T WANT SONGS ANOUT BUILDINGS AND FOOD I WANT SONGS ABOUT LETTING THE DAYS GO BY AND THESE HANDS PASSING IN-BETWEEN US!!! It’s still pretty good though.
- honestly don't know what else to say other than the fact that it was good? - 3 stars
- better than Remain in Light - kinda hit that pop rock sound but obviously with more pizzazz
It’s very David Byrne
Þetta er nú bara allt í lagi tónlist þó svo að ég fái enga sérstaka ánægju út úr því að hlusta á hana. Platan flýtur bara í gegn og svo þegar hún er búin mun ég líklegast aldrei setja hana á aftur. Ég mun nefnilega aldrei finna mér ástæðu til að hlusta á Talking Heads. Meh!
David Byrne yelling about stuff
Most talking heads sounds the same to me - Its not bad tho. Some saves, but def will not revisit the entire album
Bueno
it's nice but it doesn't hit the same way 77 does (fair enough though, after a hit debut album the follow up is quite tough). the ending is great, however, good closing choice
Some songs are pretty good but other songs are pretty annoying so I'm gonna set it at the middle
"More Songs About Buildings And Food" contains a couple of classic Talking Heads tunes ("Thank You for Sending Me an Angel" and "Take Me to the River"). Altogether, the album isn't bad; it's just not their best effort.
Not a huge Talking Heads fan, but it was decent. 2.8
Love the talking heads hits that I’ve heard I’m sure this isn’t their best album but good
I love talking heads but it honestly wasn't my favorite.
Good bass 3.5
"Artists Only" is so weird and great, but "Take Me to the River" makes me think of those dumb JibJab videos from the early 2000s about those dumb singing trout on the wall.
Solid album, definitely earlier work for them. Take Me to The River is a Banger but the rest of the album was a little forgettable and felt like a trail run for their albums to come. Might not come back to this album specifically but I will keep listening to the talking heads
Well it’s hard to say much, because this is my second talking heads album back to back, so my comment is pretty much the same as yesterday. Most of the tracks are mediocre, but when they make tracks that are fives, they’re solid fives.
I started off feeling like this didn’t have the same pizzazz as Talking Heads 77 but I started to enjoy the calmer tone by the end.
Schöner Gitarrenrock tolle Harmonien.
Really really enjoyed it musically. Love that rhythm section. David is KILLING me on this. "Artists Only" is a good example is this duality for me. All shakes out to 3 stars
Interested in listening to this album all the way through. Only truly know about a couple of their songs but I could only imagine their albums are played through for a reason. I knew one song on the whole album. Don't know too much about it
I feel like if you put all of the Taking Heads good songs on one album, you would have an album that really kicks ass. As it is, there are really only 1-3 great songs on each album.
Overall a fun listen. You can hear the Talking Heads taking shape of what they would become. Fear of Music and the next few albums after that are where I think they really hit their stride. This one is less memorable and a little monotonous.
A bit rough around the edges but very creative. Favorite Track: The Good Thing
Nice 3/5
Sigh. Is it bad that I think that the Talking Heads albums are too long? Anyways, long.
Not m'y favorite album of TH but ok
Fun listen and enjoyed a lot of the songs.
Good Talking Heads album which has flown under my radar. Will go back to it soon.
The music was ok but his voice makes every song feel the same
I don't know if this album is good, or if it's just a relief from most of the garbage on this list. I could see this being popular on release, but by todays standards, it seems pretty far from a top album. Will not listen to this again.
Quite liked this album, nice background vibe. A high 3 as not *quite* library worthy.
Good album but I'm not sure why it's ok this list. Their 2 albums after this for sure. But not this one.
6/10 Talking heads are great. This album is OK. 3-13-2024
Like this one! Plenty of disco vibe, feels like they are figuring it out. Almost a 4
3/5. Liked Take me to the river. The rest felt like background music.
C'était le fun mais ça m'a pas emballé plus que ça
Aw yeah Talking Heads! I had actually never heard *any* of these tracks before! I enjoyed it!
3.5/5
Weird, but definitely has some bangers
Not a lot of variety, I feel. Their style is good, but not good enough to lift the album above a 3
Talking heads are ok. I don't like them as much as a lot of other people. Stay hungry was my favorite song on the album. Solid 3 stars for me
Pretty standard Talking Heads album for me which is a good thing because I like listening to them. Their studio albums have never blown me away but I enjoy the weirdness of them. High 3. My 365th album review! Can't wait to do 366 this year because of leap day.
Not my favorite
Not my favorite Talking Heads album. Take me to the river late in the track list helps the score
Had some good songs but something was just... missing. This style of singing either works or it doesn't, and it didn't really work for most of the songs here. Also the instrumentals felt eh. Take Me to the River was great, though. An easy 3/5
True to the title in spirit, this album is not the most exciting entry in the Talking Heads’ discography, but if you’ve listened to the rest and seek an enjoyable cut of more of the same, this album is here for you.
A pretty call album, lots of similar songs, but all quite good. A fun sound, good to dance to I reckon
Second album from the Talking Heads and another quality album. Favorite song was the opener. Again, not an album that I would think to relisten to, though.
Enjoyed it! But didn't think it was their best. I would give it a 3.5...
it’s okay, i didn’t really enjoy it but im glad i gave it a listen. it got repetitive for me but my favorite song was Thank You for Sending Me an Angel!
Just not my type of music. I tried but couldn’t even finish it.
feel a light 3 on this one. It was good i liked it.
Isch uf jede fall besser gsi wie s letschte!!
3.5
Umm okay
Pretty fun album, not as good as Speaking in Tongues though.
Standard fare.
I've never really gotten into Talking Heads and this album is kind of a microcosm of why.
interesting listen but I will not be doing it again any time soon
Blir lite tradigt. New wave är inte min favoritgenre heller. Svag trea.
I spent a lot of time at David Byrne's house when I was growing up. We never talked much about the Talking Heads, but if we had I would have told him that I think this album gets progressively better as it goes on, and earns a solid three. Actually come to think of it, it was probably a different David Byrne. Still a pretty cool guy though
Never had listened to this whole album before. I really liked Warning Sign. Cool chord changes in the chorus. The Good Thing also catchy. But not enough consistency overall. Wish I could rate 2.5. Half the songs are good. But musicianship is there and nobody sounds like Byrne.
Was never a Talking Heads fan growing up but turned into a big David Byrne fan after seeing him live with a couple buddies and a big bag of the rock and roll tobacco. Now when I listen to the talking heads — I realize what I was missing back in the day.
Some interest in the instrumentals. Not overly impressed by the vocals. Felt very average for me.
Good album, liked 2 songs
I enjoyed listening to this album well enough. Typical of the Talking Heads, it provides a solid and catchy set of arrangements to support David Byrne’s quirky vocals. I could listen to this again, but if I was in the mood for hearing the Talking Heads, I would likely pull out “Remain in Light,” or “Stop Making Sense.”
A chaotic, jumbled mess with little cohesion, this album requires a lot of patience. It’s not the Talking Heads’ best album, but it establishes their penchant for random artistry that has sometimes paid off. New wave is just not my favorite kind of music.
I'm not really much of a Talking Heads fan. It was fine.
… not sure any songs are even about food but ok…
Not an album I would seek out to listen to. Could make for background music while doing work. Back portion of album seemed better than earlier part.
talking heads is a band that i'm not super keen on and sorta feel crazy for it just because of how hyped they are.
3-
I like David Byrne's ideas about the world and always wanted to like his music more. Some good ones in here that make my head bob, but much of the rest is frenetic filler for me.
Always fun. 3/5
good background music album, not too soft or hard, just right in the middle. distinct voice from lead singer is good. solid album but didn't have their big hit Pyscho Killer
Some decent tracks on here - especially after the 2nd listen
Stop Making Sense versions sound better, still good!
David Byrne's whimsical, nearly wailing vocals with Tina Weymouth's intricate, yet catchy basslines help build a joyous listening experience
I like Talking Heads, but never got into this album. I can enjoy it, but not drawn to it.
it was ok - just not really my vibe right now
More Songs About Buildings And Food is a good album, I definitely need more listens, it runs a bit together have only 1 listen. Big Country is my favourite track. 6.2/10
I can take Talking Heads in small doses, but a full album just isn't my thing. Got through it. One odd thought, though: if the album as a whole were more like Take Me to the River and The Big Country, I'd probably like it more. But that's just my opinion.
Meh. Now I can say I’ve listened to The Talking Heads. Stand-out track: Find A Job
Found a Job - FUNKAYYYYYYYYYYYY I'm Not in Love - hey I enjoy this, idk why Take Me to the River - bluesy, I like that
Everything in terms of the instrumental is very crisp, and complements the almost weird and slightly on edge vocal delivery extremely well. This album is very easy to enjoy and feels like an adventurous and nostalgic summer day.
I couldn’t finish. Too long. As much as I like new wave, listening to a whole album becomes a bit of a chore when every song is nigh indistinguishable from the next. Incomprehensible lyrics. Not complaining just saying like. Favourite was the first song
An average album. I loved the guitar in almost all of the songs. The fast pace of it I really like. The singers voice either annoys me or I like it depending on the mood of the song. Though all the songs kind of blend together and are hard to differentiate. My favourites were the big country , I’m not in love , take me to the river. Id give it a 5.5-6/10. Not a bad album by any means but probably wouldn’t go out of my way to listen too
normal rock setentero sin nada espectacular
Some interesting drums and guitar. Less exciting vocals. Feels era defining as the start of the 80s comes. A further few listens required. 6
Enjoyed the style and character, very colourful. Some impressive musical segments. I wasn’t really pulled in by much of it and only really felt engaged by a couple of songs in the middle. Good effort and can see why someone would enjoy it but didn’t really do much for me overall. Decent 5
I like the melodies but don’t like the singer’s voice
Not as great as some of their later ones, but still very listenable.
I think I can safely say I am a fan of Talking Heads greatest hits. The albums leave me a bit cold
Not for me. Has some interesting notes and strings of notes put together, but in the end meh.
I wanted to love this album because I love the talking heads but another album that just went over my head I guess. Will give it a couple more listens but not in my top rated albums so far.
Classic Talking Heads. had a few songs I recognized. Not bad but I don't know if I would go looking for it
Sorta mid
Started strong with a banger, but by midway through the songs all started blending into one and I was finding it repetitive and got a bit bored, didn’t manage to listen to every last couple of tracks as a result. Perhaps I need to give it a second listen and I can appreciate I didn’t get to hear every song, so I gave it a 3.
This album was alright. Nothing too special or anything too different within the new wave genre. I would at least recommend a single listen. Favorite Song(s): "Take Me to the River"
Not my usual style of music but I can appreciate the art and why it was popular.
I don't think it outshines '77 but it is a good representation of the Head's early music.
Talking head albums can really be hit or miss. They always walk on a fine line of being too quirky and weird, and being really good. This slightly misses the mark, but since I know they have much better albums I’m looking forward to hearing them in the future. Weak 3.
Yea it was ok but I kept not paying attention
Honestly a fun time. Probably would give it a 4 on second listen
Weird and I liked it.
Love christmas
Good production, some moments I enjoyed, overall not doing a whole lot for me
Did not realize that the Talking Heads were as “groovy” as they are in this album. Feels almost funk-adjacent. Musically, I enjoyed this. David Byrne’s vocals are hit or miss for me. Songs where he sings more (Take Me to the River, The Big Country) I prefer over his more breathy talk-stutter-sing
Well well well, the fourth talking heads albums we've had. Wasn't expecting to like this as I haven't enjoyed any of the others..... But, I actually did! This seemed more coherent and accessible than the others we've had. Less abstract. Don't think it's made me a fan, but far better then the other albums we've had imo. Think I'll give it another listen in the future. 3.5
Decent
Yeah, not bad
I kinda just had a busy day. Still good, not as good as the first album.
Lots of Fun and groovy AF.
0lenty good music, I can only take David Byrnes vocal style in small doses though
Gosteiiii, fiquei estudando ouvindo talking heads.
Le groovy des 70's is the shit.
I enjoyed this and will come back to it.
Another album where nothing really stuck out to me. It also had a kind of shrillness to it that made it hard for me to listen to the entire album straight through. Individually though I did enjoy most the songs even if I didn't remember them after they were done.
It’s certainly ahead of its time, has that post-punk quirk, and the songwriting is pretty good. I probably won’t listen to it again, though.
There were parts of it I really liked, but most of it didn't rise above average background music to me. Maybe it's because this bad has a reputation of being more artsy and weird than I thought this was.
Once again I like the Talking Heads but it just. Started to sound like noise? And it was music but I just didnt connect with it. Don’t get me wrong it’s good but it’s also sort of samey
It was okay, but nothing really stood out. Reminded me that Jack Strauber exists tho
Pretty decent, but not a standout album. Hard to say much anything else, I like the Talking Heads.
A little repetitive
Next 5 Songs played by my Spotify Algorithm: Wire - Fragile Pixies - Wave of Mutilation ( Doolittle Version) X - The New World CAN - Moonshake REM - Fall on Me
More Songs I Enjoy by Talking Heads
Not bad
Nothing catchy for me
2.9
Honestly most of this album would be a 2.5 but Take Me To The River was very very good, and I'm Not in Love is damn good too
