I think I expected to get into this a bit more than I did but still solid
I will be in the minority here but this is my rating and these are my opinions: Talking Heads are an overrated ,mid tier group put in a bigger spotlight due to how enigmatic David Byrne is and that they came from NYC during a time that the nation was ultra fixated on everything going on there. That is not to say there isn't merit in their work, I just don't think its the genius stroke others do. This album is a clear example as to why a 5 star system is flawed. If this were a 10 star system 5 would indicate its average, it just exists, it isn't bad but it isn't great either. A 6 is a perfect rating for this on a 10 star system.
Never could get into these guys. Byrne is superfucking irritating, while the music is solid I guess.
It was alright I guess. The only song I knew was Take Me to the River, but oh it's a cover, so not really theirs anyway.
Cool album, definitely a little out there. 6.3/10
So close to 4 star but not quite
3,5
so slow but so good
Got more into it in the second half. Enjoyed Not in Love and Stay Hungry.
Plods along in one gear but it is a very good album
Pretty good
Gut hörbarer 70er Rock. 3/5
Yep, about as weird as expected. 3.4
Funky and crazy and british. Really enjoyed it.
The Talking Heads have an unfortunate dubious distinction with me. I am simply not a fan. I do not know why or what it is exactly. I have never been able to put my finger on any one thing or another. They should be at least reasonably up my alley but ... somehow I just have a consistent, "meh" feeling when listening. And the thing is that over the years I have tried to listen and rewire my feelings but .. Nope. It is wholly personal and not even deeply felt or a convicted decision, just... IDK. I guess I just don't find them favorable for whatever reason.
6/10
2.91
yea alright
Not bad. They're singing is a little too "airy" for my personal taste.
A good second album in the evolution of the band. Keep listening to them as there's more to come.
normalito, aun que la voz era chula
none of these songs made it into the deeper layers of my brain, I didn't have a bad time or anything though, just not any interesting feelings on this one
It's good but it's not the best of Talking Heads and I know there are better Talking Heads albums tomcome. Still a fun if not a little forgettable listen. Second albums are difficult
Somehow listened to the entire album without realizing, like I can't remember a single song hahaha

I dig the sound of a lot of these tracks but I feel consistently distracted by David Byrne's yelping. Not a bad album once again I don't ever need to listen to it again.
Tää oli musta hyvä! Ei noussut ihan omaksi lemppariksi bändin tuotannosta, mut kivaa kolinaa silti.
Hoksasin, että mulle kyllä harvemmin musiikki täysin aukeaa ekalla kuuntelukerralla, niin yritän olla ehkä täällä vähän armollisempi näissä tähissä :D Tämmöstä kivaa rennonletkeetä taustakuunneltavaa, oikein miellyttävä!
Hyvä, jämäkkä albumi, ns. "kovvaa tilua". Valitettavasti en tykkää solistin "jolisevasta" äänestä ihan hirveesti, se korostuu joissain biiseissä turhan paljon. Ehkä sen kanssa tulisi sinuiksi, kun enemmän kuuntelisi. The Good Thing oli kova biisi. Kolme ja puoli tähteä.
interessting and more experimental take from talking heads after marquee moon. sadly a bit more slow but worth to listen
Not bad but nothing special either.
Enjoyable enough but forgettable
Was okay, but not my favorite, except for Take Me to the River.
I like a few songs and the idea of Talking Heads. Not sure it's totally my thing though
Not a bad album, I recognize their quality for sure, but nothing super-memorable to re-listen from it either way, at least for me 🙃
Definitely feels like the band still trying to hone in their sound so it's a bit messy and not as tight as it should be
The Talking Heads are so weird (complimentary). I found this to be just okay though.
se me hizo divertido y rarito (en el buen sentido) pero varias canciones me aburrieron un poco 7/10
Nothing special, but not bad either
Average, an ok listen.
Maybe sufferred from fatigue from going striaght into this from teh Cramps
David Byrne is a weird guy but I love him nonetheless, or maybe because of this fact? Fave track: Take Me to the River
It’s a Talking Heads album, but not a particularly interesting one. 3/5
Menevää ja aika hilpeää kampetta. Lopuks meni vähän kantriinkin. Parhaat: Take Me to the River, Artists Only
Enjoyed Take Me to the River and The Big Country, but the rest blended together and I thought the guys voice got a little annoying by the end 😂 Still an interesting vibe. Listened in my car so didn’t get the same experience as normal. Might need to come back to it.
David Byrne's voice is both sides of the magnet, man. When it lines up right, it pulls me right in and strongly; when it doesn't, it is god-awful to listen to. Stuff like Take Me to the River and (not in this album) Psycho Killer goes hard, but the rest feels so herky-jerky that it makes me tense and nervous and I can't relax.
Take me to the river, drop me in the water
Breath of fresh air after the last album
meh, experimental, i like that some just songs sound like their still trying to find jt
Talking Heads are definitely quirky and one of those bands that you either love or hate. I actually find their quirkiness fun and it makes their music interesting. And this is one of the rare album that I think the second half of the album was better than the first half. I don't normally seek out listening to Talking Heads, but there are a couple on this one that I'd listen to again (besides "Take Me To The River", which was their big hit on this album).
Oh sweet, this is the one (somewhat acclaimed) talking heads album i hadn’t listened to yet so this works well. Yeah it’s solid, not their best but it’s 100% got their sound by this point. Standouts are with our love, the good thing and take me to the river.
Not my favorite by talking Heads-probably the least listened to. One of the best things musically to happen to 1978. Percussive experimentation before losing the original 4-piece band feel.
yeah this one's pretty good. i've not listened to talking heads before really (somehow) but i'm familiar with david byrne's weird vocal style and i fuck w/ it. the instrumentals are good too, as always i'm weak to guitars with a bunch of effects on em, even in cases like this where the application is mostly pretty reserved. maybe that just makes it pop more when the effect pile gets taller, like with the little guitar triplets during "with our love". idk. there's a few early synth moments for me to enjoy too, like the pads on "stay hungry". to me it's full of fun little musical moments like this. overall though, none of the tracks on this album grab me as hard as they could, definitely not hard enough to really come back to it, or at least, not often. but still it's been a fun listen. i'm looking forward to their other albums coming up on the list.
kinda of a goofy album. Always thought these guys were british. Hard to dislike, but I dont love them
Considered not finishing after first few songs, but album gets better
Liked this more than the previous talking heads but there’s a lot of snores on this. A couple standout and it was an easy listen because David Byrne and co are great but not sure I’d jump to go back to it
A great band (with an exceptionally good cover they made their own with “take me to the river”) but just an ok album overall for me
I like Talking Heads, I guess. This album was good, I guess.
Enjoyable hits like Take me to the River. Overall likeable. Would listen again.
Didn't really hit as an album for me. Great Tina Weymouth baselines.
I liked it as much as I like any Talking Heads album.
A lot of this sounds like rip offs of The Cars and BTO instrumentation, but with nonsense lyrics and a slight new wave bent. Definitely backloaded. Artists only and I’m not in love were highlights, definitely more into that new wave area, but now I just want to listen to The Cars. ⭐️⭐️⭐️
A funky anxiety attack
Liked about half of the songs, the rest were pretty meh, but I didn’t hate them. Works out to three stars.
the lady looks like the female version of ringo starr
Was good
Decent
Slightly disappointed with this album. Expected much more from it really. Still enjoyable, just not as good as I'd thought it would be.
Take Me To The River is the standout here. Angular new-wave with mildly quirky sound. Weymouth's bass is funky as hell as usual and Byrne's lyrics/vocals are wacky, but subsequent releases are more impressive.
I love Talking Heads and this is not their best album. There's still a lot to like about it but it's not the one I keep going back to.
Of all the Talking Heads albums, I’m least familiar with *More Songs About Buildings And Food*. I’ve never really warmed to it, nor have I ever actually owned a physical copy (I have all the others, apart from the odd one out, “True Stories”). It lacks the raw, wild energy of the debut, but it also falls short of the creative diversity of its follow-up, “Fear of Music”, let alone the genius of “Remain in Light” or “Speaking in Tongues”. Sure, Brian Eno did give the band a better sound here, but in terms of composition, Byrne only hints here and there at the great things to come. It’s still a good album, but not an outstanding one.
I think Talking Heads are one of these bands that sit alongside the likes of Radiohead (named for a Talking Heads song so I know I'm not totally off base) and The Velvet Underground that I'll just never quite get completely. To be fair I like Talking Heads quite a bit better than both those bands. But I'm still not fully on board. I think it might be the full bore David Byrne theatre kid energy, actually. But then a lot of these songs run together for me and none of them quite hit except for, well, the hits. Which makes me basic, I guess? I really wish this platform had a 10 point scale, because this is better than a 3 but not quite a 4 for me. Ugh, better give it a 4 or the professional music enjoyers will shun me at the King Crimson listening party.
Fine but boring. Another generic guitar drums base and vocal band that doesnt offer too diffrent of a sound from what came before. Its okay and non offensive but therefor kind of too safe.
It's aight. Sounds the strangest band someone's white grandpa might like. I don't really see why this record would be influential and worth putting on this list.
It was OK but after having Tom Tom Club yesterday I was probably a bit over this style of music.
It’s the usual bag of fun and creativity. Great musicians and production. Highlights for me are ‘Artists Only’ and ‘Thank You for Sending Me an Angel’. Lowlight was ‘Take Me to the River’. A cover like that just didn’t seem to fit with the rest of the album.
It's a decent album. Good musicianship but for me falls into that Roxy music category of 'not interesting or emotional enough for me'.
What earlier might have been a 4 in this project turns into a 3 the longer it goes on - and this one might be the perfect example. There is way better Talking Heads, with catchier hooks, better singles and less monotony. But they are still the heads and the sound is always still so unique and timeless.
Most Talking Heads albums share the same problem that they are neither Remain In Light or Stop Making Sense.
Solid album, but every Talking Heads album just makes me love Stop Making Sense even more
Not my favorite Talking Heads by a long shot, but it had its high highs & lows. Really taking a bite out of jam band contemporaries.
Good album. A few more listens and could easy bump upto a 4. Definitely need to play more talking heads.
reminds me of my dad again ahah
Me gustó el estilo del albúm, me interesa la banda, pero muchas canciones se me hicieron medio molestas y ninguna destacó (quizá la primera, pero después decayó el resto)
Kinda weird, didn't love
- I liked this album enough - it was fun... like, contained fun. Some fun rhythms here! - The keys/synths and bass were great, too. - I enjoy David Byrne's affectations, but I can't really understand what he's saying a lot of the time. - Nothing really stood out in terms of melody, though.
Great album
I like the live album stop making sense. It was my first introduciton to the talking heads and every song on that album is ingrained in my brain. Hearing the original versions on this album makes it sound weird. The songs are too similiar and I dont think this is their best work
Très intéressant. Pas forcément ce que j'écouterais au quotidien
It’s ok. Not sure I’d add this to this list….
Who knew there was so much Just Ok albums out there.
Maybe it’s not all bangers. Nothing against this album, nothing really for it either. Maybe a different day I’d be into it but I’m leaving this one pretty indifferent.
Antes de arrancar. Solo conozco un tema de Talking Heads "Psycho Killer" que no es de este album. Me copa escuchar un poco más de esta banda. Bueno, buen album, hay un par de temas más piolas, después bastante normalito todo. 7/10.
5/10
Not my favorite talking heads material
Album #447 for me and all four Talking Heads albums from the list have now been listened to. This album is not the best of them, or the worst. Lyrically not as much of a standout, but instrumentally more prominent for me. I would like to thank this list for making me more aware of the group and their music. I never really listened to them before and I now actually sometimes choose to play their music without being forced to by this generator.
Pank.
Another new one for me. This one was a bit disappointing because musically I found it really enjoyable but the vocals are absolute shite and really put me off. Would have been a 4 without the vocals, but going to drop it to a 3 because it was still decent overall.
Mixed feelings about this one. There's a lot of variety but it's all mostly flat. But then suddenly there are random bursts of layering and texture which peak my interest. But then I start paying attention and it just poofs out of existence. Idk despite what I said above I enjoyed it. There's so much variety in instrumentation that it's actually a fun listen. As this is clearly a sequel trying to ride off the success of the hit album "Songs About Buildings and Food" maybe that one will be better when we get around to it. ~~what do you mean it doesn't exist??~~ mid 3
not as bad as talking heads 77 ... i guess you could call this exposure therapy. imagine it's a 3.5
I was disappointed.
not my vibe
3.5
It's not a bad album, but it really doesn't have anything to stake it down. It's mostly just mid song after mid song.
Not their best
This was the first Talking Heads' album I had ever listened to. It was fine. There were some songs that I liked, but then they would go on too long, example "Take Me To The River". It started out fine, but then it took too long to end. The song I liked the most was, "The Good Thing".
mm no me gustó mucho pero supongo q no es mal álbum ajjs
Sounds nice - funky new wave
Great Songs: Good Songs: With Our Love, The Good Thing, Warning Sign, Artists Only, I'm Not In Love, Stay Hungry, Take Me to the River Mid Songs: Thank You for Sending Me an Angel, The Girls Want to Be With the Girls, Found a Job, The Big Country Bad Songs:
Weird band but I think that’s their niche. Not a lot of memorable songs but I dig the cover of “Take Me To The River”
Too heavy on the 80s sounds for me, maybe it would grow on me more with further listening. I’ll try to give it another shot.
Sympa!! La vibe est chouette mais pas vraiment mémorable
Me dió la sensación que todas las rolas son iguales
NOT BAD FOR THE TIME
Perfectly fine
Lullaby
Actually a 3.5… other songs/albums I like more than this one
Talking Heads have some fantastic hits but a lot of their songs don't quite click with me and this album has a lot in the latter category. Many of the songs just feel a bit odd without doing anything particularly interesting. I already know and love Take Me to the River, but The Big Country was the standout of the tracks I was unfamiliar with.
Theyre funky and i good vibe. Have some nice songs.
good album, and i can recognize it for what it is/was when it came out, just not to my personal taste!
Good at the start, got weaker towards the end.
This is far from Talking Heads' best record, but it's still Talking Heads so it cannot possible be rated poorly. It doesn't have quite the same edge and zing as their other work, but there are some really great tracks here. The Take Me to the River cover was an unexpectedly great surprise. And, if nothing else, this album made me want to listen to Talking Heads for the rest of the day, and that's gotta count for something. Favorite track: Take Me to the River
Enjoyable and fun, hadn’t listened to this talking heads album but had to others so this was new! Kind of wish it wasn’t David Byrne singing on EVERY song though like sometimes it’s grating sorryyyy
Talking heads have always been in the 2-3 range for me. This album is the same. so my real score is a 2.7 which will be round up.
It's good, but I feel a bit overhyped. Very enjoyable though.
Gas
Not my favorite th record although you start to here some of the sound that defined them. Uneven and repetitive.
Overall Rating - 2.95/5 (5.91/10). Fun, but forgettable. I like the style of Talking Heads, but this particular album is nothing special.
I like David Byrne. This is not one of my favorite albums of his though.

Nett.
Not my favourite Talking Heads album by any means, but it still plays pretty good. More Songs About Buildings And Food was their second long player – more confident musicianship and with a more expansive sound than their debut, courtesy I imagine of Brian Eno’s production. I don’t think David Byrne has yet quite found his voice here. It’s still a little too jarring for my ears, and it’s interesting (to me) that, arguably, his best two vocal performances on the record are last two, the cover of Al Green’s “Take Me To The River” and “The Big Country” – the later sounding like it belongs on a completely different album. 7/10
kind of stressful to study to
I like the serious songs like Take Me to the River. Some of the other stuff is a little too frantic.
I liked this album even though the talking heads are weird as fuck. A couple annoying songs but others were enjoyable. Fave songs: “Found a job” and “Thank you for sending me an angel” 3/5
Hade förväntat mig mer! Men vissa bra
Ganska bra, kunde rulla på i bakgrunden men rycktes inte med.
been getting mid albuns for about a week now, somebody save me
Odd and I don't know what else to think
On their sophomore outing, More Songs About Buildings and Food, Talking Heads double down on the nervous architecture of their debut, sanding off some of the art-school awkwardness but keeping the twitch intact. Working with producer Brian Eno, the band locks into a tight, almost airless groove—everything clipped guitars, rubbery bass lines, and rhythms that skitter like a busted appliance. The result is cohesive to a fault: the herky-jerk tempos and David Byrne’s declamatory yelps blur together, giving the album a monochrome feel that’s more conceptual than visceral. “Thank You for Sending Me an Angel” sets the tone with caffeinated precision, while “Artists Only” chimes and jitters in a way that hints at emotional depth beneath the circuitry. Their cover of Al Green’s Take Me to the River is the outlier—and the breakout—injecting a sly funk pulse that suggests the band’s cerebral detachment can, in fact, move hips as well as heads. Closer “The Big Country” lands as the most intriguing cut, its wide-eyed lyrics playing against buoyant music in a way that feels genuinely unsettling. For all its wiry charm, though, the album’s narrow sonic palette makes it feel less like a leap forward than a refinement of an already rigid blueprint.
Very up beat and vibey production Striking lines in the verse
Talking Heads are a band I enjoy more cinematically than musically, and definitely more from a greatest hits level than an album level. And this one doesn't contain much in the way of greatest hits. They are very cool, much cooler than I will ever be, but this one is fine by me but doesn't get the juices flowing.
It was fine. One or two stuck out for me and have made it onto playlists - a sure sign of quality.
Before: I do like the Talking Heads but they're definately not my favorite band from that era. I do have at least 3 of their albums on vinyl down in the basement but this is not one of them. Let's get started. During: Yep, definately sounds like the Talking Heads. They have an unmistakable sound which I actually find a bit annoying after a few minutes. Checking my best of 1978 list I find Take Me to the River but no other songs from this album. 4 Thank You For Sending Me An Angel 2 With Our Love 4 The Good Thing 4 Warning Sign 2 The Girls Want To Be With The Girls 4 Found A Job 2 Artists Only 4 I'm Not In Love 3 Stay Hungry 4 Take Me To The River 2 The Big Country ---------------------------------------------- 3.2 AVERAGE After: Of course there should be at least one or two Talking Heads albums on this list but this isn't one of them. Nonetheless, I decided to add 2 more tracks to my 1978 list, Thank You For Sending Me An Angel and Warning Sign. 3 - my personal rating 2 - suitability for this list 4 - relevance ------------------------------ 3 - composite rating
David Byrne barking and scatting(?) through this album. The music itself is good, but I don't like a full album of David Byrne. He's just not pleasant to listen to. Liked Songs: Take Me To The River, The Big Country, I'm Not in Love My Rating: 3/5
This was another Talking Heads album. Fun with that weird sound they're known for.
I did listen but i should revisit
Classic Talking Heads. Listenable, for a day on the beach. Vocals you can't really sing along to.
Very good album from Talking Heads. It didn't strike me as being quite as funky as some of their other stuff, but still very danceable and groovy.
It was talking heads
M'eh
take me to the river!
It blows my mind that this album came out of 1978, it really sounds like it could be directly from the 90s or 00s. Like many other records on this list, it clearly had an immense impact on music, especially indie. That said, their music just really doesn't connect with me on a personal level for whatever reason. 3.5 -> 3
Niet het gehele album lang fan van het twitchy stijltje, maar het is toch een unieke sound die echt wel wat heeft. Geen uitschieters op dit album, maar de laatste twee (wat rustigere) nummers ronden het wel mooi af.
Somehow overrated and underrated at the same time.
A bit too noodly. This one was just the singles for me. The Eno produced albums are hit or miss for me. This was more of a miss.
3.3 stars
Talking Head have such a distinctive sound and not just as a result of David Byrne's unique warbling vocals. The guitars are always light, sparkly and on some tracks have an almost country feel to them. The drum beats are always uptempo and syncopated giving all of their songs quite a strange urgent but positive feeling. This album is a classic example of this. I can imagine this being a love it or hate it type thing. I fall into the latter category. I really like Talking Heads style but felt like they just didn't go far enough. To the extent that there are no tracks that stood out other than the Al Green cover "Take Me To The River". I enjoyed this album, but it wasn't my favourite. (2.555)
Listenable.
Funny to listen to album. Songs I wouldn't really listen to regularly but I really fuck with the vibe for most of songs. Enjoyable listen! FUN!
Some of the background music was catchy enough, fine to have on in the background while working. But I probably won’t listen to it again.
Eindelijk de normale versie gehoord van god send me an angel whoopsie
很放松
As a Talking Heads fan this is probably my least favorite album. But it’s still better than most.
Thank you for sending me an angel
- nää ukot on olleet kyllä todellisesti aikaansa edellä - tää on kyl iha jepa bändi, ei tarpeeks hyvä et kuluttaisin omassa arjessa mutta ei tätä ny pakko oo vaihtaa poiskaan sillonku talking headsiä kuulee
Taas puhuvaa päätä. Ei vieläkään kuuhun mennä. ⭐️⭐️⭐️
Add Talking Heads to the 'like more in concept than in execution' list. Two or three great grooves, and a bunch of 'pleasant enough'. Missing any big smash hits a la Psycho Killer, Once In A Lifetime etc. Not *bad*, and different enough to be interesting, just not mindblowing. A 3.
There’s a style here that’s so polarizing. I fall on the hate it side, but I’ll give it a 3 since I can at least kinda see the appeal.
I think I enjoyed this album despite the Talking Heads (especially David Byrne's vocal quality), but because of Brian Eno's influence on this thing. Eno feels like the saving grace on this thing.
Enjoyed this, upbeat and quirky, no standout tracks for me though
Really good debut follow up with Eno at the production helm. This album definitely grooves more and even the cover songs sound fresh.
Could be up to a 4 or so, but even though I've liked other stuff from them, these weren't my fave
Fine rock, but nothing I really loved. Nothing I hated, it just wasn’t super attention grabbing
I found it pretty annoying and cacophonous until the final two tracks. The last two are very good songs. Take Me To The River is like The Doors if they played CBGBs. This is my 3rd Talking Heads album. I still think they're overrated. Great singles band but the albums don't do it for me.
Nice background
They have better more memorable albums
Need to listen - no rating
Everyone from my generation remembers the Talking Heads, and probably fondly. But standing off 40 odd years later they haven’t aged well. More gimmick than virtuosity. It’s not bad, it’s just not as good as memory says it should be.
Talking Heads second album. I don't know enough about it or the band to make an informed commentary. But considering the band's substance and style, the inclusion of an Al Green cover is surprising and curious. What is more surprising is how well it works.
Not really my style, but I appreciate what they are going for with this project.
You can hear where it’s going, but it’s not there yet
Talking Heads but without all their big songs. Not a whole lot to recommend as a result...
I kind of hated it. But mostly just the singing. The band is amazing. Probably wouldn't listen again though.
3.5
They had their own thing going, some sucked butt overall not too bad
Pretty good album that I'm sure I'd love more with time & listens. I love David Byrne's creativity and Tina had some awesome bass lines on this one. This album reminded me of the Zoolander quote Hansel said about who inspires him... "Sting. The fact that he's still making music. I don't listen to it. But I respect he made it." Haha That's kinda how I feel about this album. I don't necessarily like it but I like that they made it.
Didn’t hate it but didn’t love it.
not my favourite of theirs but still a good time
Fun to walk to, but nothing really stood out to me. 4.9/10
The older I get the more ok I am with this band. I do not like David Byrne and I don't think any of this music is particularly groundbreaking. But it's better than not bad. I'd say if I didn't know anything about this band I'd say it's good. 3 I guess.
Funky. Its alright, I guess. 3/5
I finally know what my favourite Talking Heads album is. It’s Tom Tom Club! No, but really – the worst of this album is the sort of thing Razorlight tried to be (and there’s frankly nothing on a continuum that contains Razorlight I’d want to be engaging with). The best of it is disco grooving that works the hips – and, crucially, leaves the head alone. Mercifully, and with thanks to the Heads’ fondness for an extended jam, that’s about 80% of it. The second half of the record is a marked improvement on the first, with “Stay hungry” as the standout track.
3.5
Overall rating by me: 6,5/10 Songs added to the playlist: ,,With Our Love”, ,,The Good Thing”, ,,Take Me To The River” Notes: The beat is very funky and flowy. At first I didn’t realise, but I finally found the name of the song I’ve been searching for the longest time - so glad it’s finally in my playlist.
I don’t hate Talking Heads, but I don’t find their production style all that engaging. This album, like their other ones, feels like there’s a lot of unfilled space. It just makes it sound too hollow and, for me, not that fun. It’s not terrible. There’s certain grooves and vocals here that are kind of enjoyable, but it wasn’t enough.
I've warmed to the Talking Heads recently, especially Remain in Light and Speaking in Tongues, though this isn't at that level. I like Take Me to the River.
Some good rhythm in there and a bit funky at times. This must be the place is one of my all time favorite songs but this album was just ok for me. 5.4/10
Since I've started this project, art rock is a genre that has been slowly growing on me ; I've learnt to appreciate the iconic Eno signature, the weirdly flat vocals and the post-punk / krautrock / Berlin influences. It's never gonna be my favorite genre, but at least I understand it much better now. Talking Heads is typical in this regard. Ten years ago, I probably wouldn't have cared for their music. Now, I don't know... On paper I'm on board with most of what they do ; I can appreciate it intellectually. This particular album is technically very good, and I really wanted to like it - but for some reason it left me vaguely unsatisfied, like finishing a puzzle to find out there's a couple of missing pieces. I can't quite put my finger on it ; maybe it's the relative lack of emotion, or maybe it's still a bit too tame and pop-ish for me, with no real radicality or transgressiveness. Retrospectively, it shines a new light on Fear of Music, which I think I liked better (probably because it sounds more unhinged). In the end it was a nice album to listen, but not something I see myself playing again soon. Maybe in another ten years... 5/10
me re gusto (escuchala un par de veces mas)
The TH’s short lines of singing is not my style but it growing on me.
It was fine.
Not a super fan of all Talking Heads but the last two songs are iconic
Tämän levyn parasta antia oli ”Take Me to The River” coveri. Se oli ennestään tuttu. Muuten aika tasapaksua materiaalia.
Could have done with fewer songs about buildings and food, but the songs are all right. If the music didn't fade into the background so well, I would rate it more harshly.
Big time Dad Rock. Honestly it’s not bad, I enjoyed my time with it.
I like Talking Heads. I will put the hits in my playlists. I don't thinkI go grab one of their albums and just listen to an album. I found listening to an entire album - a whole hour of Talking Heads makes me want to have a break somewhere. Maybe it's just this album. I like Talking Heads, but I don't know if I quite call myself a fan. Take Me to the River is a classic. They are like a less avant guard Devo, but they of course pair perfectly.
I've never liked the Talking Head, but I didn't mind this. David Byrne's voice grates on me after a little while. Mostly it just faded into the background.
I was having a manic day and this wasn't helping. Not this albums fault, but this list of over 1001 albums doesn't need this many Talking Heads albums. This sounds like an extension of the 1977 album. It was fine.
tio rich muy american
Enjoyable album.
Oof... I thought I loved The Talking Heads but there were quite a few songs that felt like they dragged on, especially towards the middle of the album. I guess they're more of a "hits" artist for me!
I like Talking Heads (and David Byrne) in theory more than I like most of the music, especially this album. Just gets a little avante garde
I’m not on enough drugs to truly appreciate this but it is fun
It's painfully fine. This is clearly not their best album. I kind of hate the way he sings and basically punctuates every syllable. But he doesn't do it everywhere and some songs were fine.
3/5 I think there's better Talking Heads albums. I think the punchy way in which the singer sang got old very quickly, and it just became background noise to me after a while. Super cute baby song though, and Take Me To The River was a salvation in and of it's own.
strange but good.
6.55
I'm not sure why there's so many albums from every act on this thing. This album is decent with some good tunes, but does it really need to be on this list?
Always a good time with this band. I didn't know most of these tracks, but really enjoyed them!
It's catchy stuff through and through. I wouldn't say there's any song I didn't like on here, but it's the same stuff throughout. While I enjoy this album, i'd rank it in the lower half of albums by Talking Heads. Nothing really memorable on here, but its an indicator of what's to come.
Like, bit not the best talking heads album imo
My third Talking Heads albums, and I still don't like them as much as I think I should.
175/1089 i enjoyed the first song but then it went to the quirky staccato type of punk that i often find quite off-putting and it stays there for most of the record unfortunately (for me) i just really don’t get on with this type of forced, strained type of high pitch male vocal. It’s quite Jim Carrey-as-Ace Ventura-esque (except it somewhat works in those movies) okay I’m Not In Love is pretty good. That’s another one that I’ve enjoyed. Take Me To The River is also a great listen, very groovy 63/100
A bit meh
Nice but médio
Not my sound tbh
too long
I'm Not in Love is a great shake up I can hear how this band influenced Radiohead Very wild and erractic vocals, I enjoy it though I find nothing extraordinary in this album so far...(Finished I'm Not in Love) This album is utterly bizzare. It's both great and terrible, on one day I wouldnt be able to stand it and on another I'd think music peaked with these guys. I have absolutely no idea how to feel. I think it's a true 7, but today I loved it. 8 I think today I woke up and its a 6 never mind
there's only so much talking heads i can listen to. even when i'm in the mood for it, i can only handle 3 songs max. all that to say, not a bad album overall!
Real catchy, it was a fun listen, the second half of the album was my favorite
3/5
Appreciation for the talking heads but not a fan of this album
More Songs About Buildings and Food adds a new element to Talking Heads' music that would not only become a staple for them, but be a huge reason why they are so influential and well respected all throughout the music industry. That element in question is the inclusion of electronic noises in their music. Electronics in music was a fairly new concept that started gaining a lot more traction with the help of Brian Eno's solo career, but Talking Heads took it a step further and made it accessible for a wider rock audience as compared to the more Ambient and New Age compositions coming out around this time. The last real big act I can think of to include electronic sounds on such a mainstream level is probably Lou Reed with Metal Machine Music, and we all know how well that went over. I still think album is working out the kinks of this band's full potential, but for the most part this is a pretty simple and by the books release with nothing too special to talk about once again.
Geht so
As solid as all TH. A little more upbeat and poppy compared to some others, but still experimental. I'm probably too used to it to have the impact it should. Solid 3.
Meh, not really bad, just didn't feel much while listening...
This album exists I guess. Pretty much every song sounds more like stylized talking over instrumental loops than music. The lyrics don't make me cringe and successfully convey their ideas, but are only memorable because they're repeated, not because they're special. It was kind of funny seeing Genius annotations try to give deeper meaning to some of the lyrics only to be ratio'd by "this song is about sex".
They still do all the fun Talking Heads stuff, but otherwise this one doesn't really stand out to me
Talking heads and never really been my favorite, I've never really cared for the hits they played on the radio. This album was okay. My favorite part was when the rhythm section got interesting. I found myself listening to that the most, don't really love David Byrne's voice though. Favorite track The Good Thing
Nothing wrong with kicking off the year with more Heads. 3/4 of their albums so far. This one's not quite as good as Fear of Music or Remain In Light, a little more stripped down but still very enjoyable.
didnt finish
Hugely important, foundational to lots of other artists, not really my thing.
Byrne's silly vocals spoil the party.
176/1001 Talking Heads - More Songs About Buildings And Food Heard before? ✅ Revisit? ✅ I had fun with this, would I call it exceptional, nope, but for quite a breezy album, I could definitely see myself returning to it.
Talking Heads were interesting with strange rhythms and interesting vocals, the shape of things to come.
This one's always been my least favorite of their first six, honestly? It loses the minimalism that makes 77 so special, but it's not yet reaching the heights of Fear of Music or especially Remain in Light songwriting-wise. To make matters worse, pretty much all these songs are done better on their live albums! Of course, "Take Me to the River" is great in any form, but even still, listening to it on Stop Making Sense or especially the second disc of The Name of This Band is Talking Heads is going to ruin the studio version for you forever. Not bad, just nothing special.
great front man the second best thing to come out of Dumbarton. nice tunes
Talking heads have quite a unique sound. I'm sure that's not the best of talking heads. Very polarizing piece, on one half I'm sold, on the other I'm not a fan. It's like something's fighting in me about that one. Sometimes catchy, but mostly weird. I heard a couple of quite a familiar sounds. Overall I think I might give it another listen and might really be able to enjoy it.
My first thoughts are that it is mind blowing that their sound evolved so dramatically within a 3 year period. This album has never been my favorite in their catalog. There aren’t any true qualities that distinguish the songs from one another. The bands sound is never bad to sit back and listen to, but this album lacks the edge I look for in their music.
a really fun listen definitely will go back to it fav track:warning sign
As much as I love Talking Heads this album is a bit unmemorable to me. </3
yep, this is pretty much what the Talking Heads sound like. and they're doing... the Big Mouth Billy Bass song?
Some very decent tracks on here. The driving bass & guitar work is really enjoyable, and the flow of the album feels coherent and well put together. The album feels like an artsy pop record with some great instrumental experimentation, which I really enjoyed. The issue for me though is that I can't quite force myself to enjoy David Byrne’s vocals - the wailing style just doesn't sit well for me and it knocks my rating of this album down by quite a bit.
Ok
I can appreciate what they are up to I just don’t care for it.
this was Mondays
3.5 rounded down
Never big into Talking Heads, and this is the third one I got. So from what I gather from these three albums the deeper the band got into their career the less communicative the got and the more they got into intense jungle beat with droning chants. This is only their second album so it’s still enjoyable. Post punk with a pronounced rhythm section, funky guitar and a weird vocalist with weird affectations. Good listen if you like post punk. Three stars.
What the hell is this (derogatory) It's eccentric and eclectic. The last third is definitely the best part of it. I was pretty set on a 1-2 but Stay Hungry and Take Me to the River are super funky and bump it at least a point. I don't know how I feel about it. It's certainly fun, but I don't know if I actually like it? The singer's voice is so goddamn whiny.
I want to rate higher because the bangers, but the filler is not good enough. But I’m going to stan for the Heads bc they are cool.
Really wanted to enjoy this one more. Has some great momets and fun tracks, but I didn’t find the albums as a whole to be too engaging. Maybe I’ll come to love it later in life.
Top tier album title. They DO like buildings and food! But most of these songs are about girls and landscapes instead, which is fine, but less good in my opinion. Highlight: 'The Big Country' (the most building-focused track!) Syntactically interesting lyric: "All my pictures are confused/And now I'm going to take me to you"
Funky and unique. I didn't know you could dance to the Talking Heads, I enjoyed the beats of this.Album
Interesting album that I think leans on the groove immensely. Much credit to the bass that carries each song. David Byrne is a weird cat, but in a good way. Good listen but not their greatest output.
Not my favorite if theirs. Could have been the setting I was in too.
Had hoped for more. Still an OK album
Nice ideas, especially with instrument choice but his voice grates eventually
They would go on to do bigger and better things. Not my favorite by them but still has some great tracks.
much better than yesterday. early talking heads is apparently a bit too 70s for me which i don't like. 60s yes. 80s yes. 70s no across the board this and all the disco. Not very memorable.
I like Talking Heads but you’ve gotta really be in the mood. Their artistic approach, influences, and creative involvement make it an important piece of work and there are a few bangers here but some of this seemed a bit repetitive. Overall, I do love how their playful inquiry into the ‘mundane’ life experience. And I love ‘Take me to the River’ - it’s a beautiful expressive rendition.
Fun and energetic
Couldn’t stop thinking about that singing fish from the Sopranos
Funny to get this after Eno’s solo debut, but even his ideas don’t catapult Talking Heads’ talent to the sky just yet; the songs are a little weirder and more alive, but they don’t strut all over the place in style the way they do on later albums.
There’s some great music on this album, brought down by David Byrnes moaning and rambling.
This was a pretty solid album. There weren't really any standout tracks, but everything stayed at a consistent level of good. I enjoyed the listen. Overall: 3.3/5
It's better than Talking Heads 77, but not by enough to warrant 4 stars. This isn't bad, but it just doesn't quite work for me.
Thank goodness for Take Me To The River, I love that song! But I really have never liked listening to his voice in anything but that song. I’m sure it’s a good album, but just not for me.
This album seemed to make the jump from disco to new wave all within its 1 hour run time. Take Me to the River is a standard. I don't think I'd ever heard the album in its entirety, but I really enjoyed it.
Album No. 0080 on my list. My very first Talking Heads Album! I’ve never listened to the band much even though it’s certainly one of those bands I’m kinda supposed to like, so I was curious about “More Songs About Buildings And Food… … and found it, well, okay. Maybe I just have to get into it some more, but for now I found it neither bad nor particularly good. I get why it’s and important album and I like its vibe, but none of the songs got stuck in my head, and I think I’m not the biggest fan of David Byrne’s singing. Anyways, I’ll add “Warning Sign”, “Take Me To The River”, and “The Big Country” to my playlist and probably listen to the whole thing again as well to see if it gets better over time. 3/5 stars.
Early works by an influencial rock band.
This album feels like the grandfather of indie rock, alternative, and post punk all at once. The beats feels really special, modern, but still dated. The introductory song, Thank You for Sending Me an Angel, sets the tone for what could qualify as the forefathers of the stuff that Franz Ferdinand, Modest Mouse, Kasabian, and other such bands would carry for the new century. The highlight is a cover of a Sam Cooke song, Take Me To the River, that transforms the old song into a sensual, groovy rendition that Annie Lennox would come to perfect in her album Medusa. This album is influential and still holds up. I wish I could give it a 4, but sadly I did t enjoy it enough.
Wasn't aware of this album, although not one of their most popular, it evolves their sound and makes it fun to listen to, this one should be talked about more. Will keep it in rotation.
Another pretty decent new wave album.
It's alright. Hard to distinguish where songs end. Stand out song - Take me to the river
Didn't like the lead linger but the rest was fireeeee. funky and groovy made me feel so cool walking to class. Favorite Track: Found a Job
Quirky, with funky instrumentals and actually cohesive lyrics! I kinda preferred the more 'normal' alternative versions better though. Tracks to Track: The Good Thing
Well alright here we go again with the quirky tunes of Talking Heads! Their first album came up a couple of weeks ago and now on to their second album. Yep it still sounds like them. The production seems to be better this time around. I find a lot of the time that the songs don’t necessarily stick in my head very much and I find some parts to be a bit monotonous however I’m sure that with a few spins they will stand out more as there are a lot of cool things to listen to here. Ya I’m not sure if the first two albums by this band should be on this list as I have a feeling that their best albums are about to come after those two.
Take me to the riveeer
Sonically repetitive, but nonetheless a good groove
Crazy good indie funk…
3rd time a charm, huh
First listen
Okay. Just not a big heads fan.
