Reviews (page 10 of 13)

Interesting blend of genres and styles. For me doesn't hit the heights I'd expect of a classic album.

Well, it’s Bowie, so it’s inventive, sophisticated, often surprising, and still sounds fresh almost 50 years later. But - nothing really sends it into the heights that would make it indispensable.

Nuori nainen on yksin asunnossaan. Peiliin on verellä kirjoitettu viesti... JOS LUOIT SITÄ KILTTIÄ NUOLEMISEKSI, ODOTA, KUNNES SAAT TÄTÄ PALJON! Bananananowwww!

Classic Bowie, appearing to be midway through a style change

This is a really short album - 6 songs, 38 minutes. This is more important as an artistic transition than a great album to listen to. The most notable song is Golden Years. Pitchfork: 9.5 Rolling Stone: Top 500 Album #52 Best Songs Golden Years

This list has forced me to finally deep dive into Bowie and I’ve been pleasantly surprised. This album is no exception.

Controversial but I feel like I got Bowie LESS after this one. It never quite hit the highs the singles I know from him do, and it never really landed on how "out there" something like Ziggy Stardust or the end of Low. There were still some great songs on here, and I can see myself putting it on if I'm craving some Bowie, but it was missing something that made a lot of the rest of his work more memorable to me.

I just don’t really get Bowie. Not why he deserves 9 albums on this list at least. None of these songs deserved to be 6-7 minutes long, and yet they all were. Like they were okay, not terrible, but why is everyone acting like this is something of the best shit they’ve ever heard?* *the song Stay kicked all sorts of ass and is not counted in the above chiding remarks

3 Stars (8/15)

Just a chill album

Fun and funky album, end on a soft note. 3/5. See the appeal and greatness but not immediately up my alley genre wise. Would enjoy listening again.

What the hell is a European cannon. Both unremarkable. TVC15 epic. Groovy riff Another groovy riff. What the fuck are you on about. Nice song wind is wild Conclusion: drug induced waffle. U

Most of the songs I was unfamiliar with and found them enjoyable

Not his best is it

Bowie gets an oblig 1 star for just showing up

Before this challenge I had never really listened to Bowie at all. Outside of the first album I got, I’ve enjoyed most of the other albums I’ve gotten as my daily picks. Yet I could not get into this one at all. The entire album just felt like one song, and nothing stood out for me. It just became noise in the background instead of me actually paying attention to it. Further proof the author needed a 2 or 3 album cap per artist. 2.5 / 5

Interesting but I doubt I'll go back to listen to this one over some of his others

Have no idea why the list included that many David Bowie’s, he’s a good icon and artist but never that good as a musician or singer (I’m sorry) Back to this album, it didn’t strike me

This album is more consistent than blackstar but has lower highs. There's nothing all that interesting, which is disappointing because I know Bowie has interesting ideas. I can see why other people rate it so highly, but I find it fine.

Mysigt

I thought I was a fan of David Bowie, but not this album. I thought it was kind of boring.

One banger. The rest of the album is disco Bowie.

I will be honest in the fact that I am a very surface level David Bowie listener. I haven't had the urge to dive deeper into his discography than what is in my algorithmic mixes on Spotify. This was nice to hear some songs that I had never heard of before! Quite the variety on this album. I remember when I was little, and heard Golden Years in A Knight's Tale for the first time. Such a unique sound, and never fails to put me in a nostalgic state. I had never heard the song "Stay," and I really love that guitar line.

It's a lot better than the major Bowie hits that get played.

not really a fan of this guy, but not bad. This is like the 5th bowie in 125 albums, this is the best thus far

Its David Bowie, of course its good. GOOD, its not the absolute masterpiece revisionist history has bestowed upon it. Like a lot of 70s albums this has cocaine written all over it, some great bits and pieces and some things that someone should have talked someone else out of.

Not my fav from Bowie

station to station: Ohhh I get it, like a TRAIN station! man it's crazy how much more i like this than lamb on broadway already and it's literally just him hitting two notes over and over lol oops i spoke too soon its annoying, turns out all music from the 70s is annoying Underwater voice Getting pretty sick of this song just pounding that piano as hard as he can Golden Years: I know this one! But it turns out maybe i don't like it as much as I thought I did This album is kind of boring. I wonder if i'd like it more if I could understand anything David was saying in these songs. I also wonder if my work laptop Surface speakers are detracting a lot, because the thing I'm picking up most is these jangly ass piano notes being hammered out and it's repetitive and annoying I'm getting Talking Heads vibes but in a bad way TVC15 is almost something but it doesn't feel like it does anything or go anywhere. Stay is pretty good I like this. Wild is the wind: 2:11 OoOooOOoOOooooOo Giving it a three because while I didn't like it, at least it's only 38 minutes long (unlike LLDOB by G)

I liked this, although it's not my favorite of his CDs on this list so far. It's a bit spacey and jammy for my taste, and I don't think Bowie does that so well. He's got a habit of getting into a groove and just hanging on it forever, which I think gets kind of old. "Golden Years" is a nice enough song, but it's the worst offender here - the song opens with that one crunchy riff, which then repeats with no interruption throughout the entire song. Bowie builds on it, but he never takes anything away. This, as well as some of the longer instrumental jams (e.g. on "Stay") feel kind of like typical self-indulgent 70s. He's better when he's singing throughout, as on the title track and the closer. But it's a nice CD - Bowie's got a very deep catalogue of just solid material.

Listened in the truck via YouTube music. I don’t believe I’ve ever heard any of the songs on this album. The majority were mid tempo long tracks which was cool. Definitely a hang at the house and chill music.

Easily the most enjoyable Bowie album I've had thus far. Maybe Ziggy will be different. Great melodies and production but his voice still isn't my favorite thing. 3.5 rounding down to 3

First time listening to Bowie album in full. Some moments I kinda liked, but I still don't know what people find in him? Like not in an offensive way, but I can't figure why his music appeals to so many people. Well, I hope other albums will give me the answer. This one has it's moments, but sometimes I got bored by a lot of repetitions. Sorry, David, only 3 so far, though I had bigger expectations.

Last 2 songs were great. I know Bowie is a legend and a genius but a lot of his work just isn’t my thing. This album was meh overall. 6.5/10

Yeah I don’t know, Bowie’s music still just isn’t for me. I’ve never really been able to get into it and this album isn’t really an exception. He sounds great though, vocally he’s superb and the instrumentation is really good too, I just didn’t care for it.

I’m not a big David Bowie fan, but this is the first album I actually enjoyed. Stay and wild is the wind were my favorite tracks.

Has the more classic Golden Years song, but I feel like there's a reason this isn't a more well-known Bowie

•3/5 • Golden Tears is good but nothing else stood out

Pretty cool but short!

Pretty decent!

This was fine

Like the songs that I already knew pretty meh about the songs I didn't. Hard to pin down the chicken and egg scenario

Haven't heard this one! He has such a huge catalog. Super head-bobby at the start. I like the grooves. Oh, I recognize Golden Years. That's definitely the best song on here. This album is too short, so I'll give it a 3.

I don't actually enjoy this album too much, especially compared to some of his other 70s work. You can feel the drug-fueled excess on some of the songs. I love Golden Years and TVC15 though, they're so fun.

Ok, so this is my first real listen of any Bowie album. I've never been a big fan of Bowie's music (don't @ me). I feel like I don't typically fully get what he's going for, so maybe that's part of the issue. "Golden Years" is very catchy on first listen. Definitely stood out to me and I'm not surprised to find out it's the first single from the album. "TVC15" is fun. Nothing like a song about a TV eating your girlfriend. After the album ended after "Wild is the Wind", I was shook. What a short album. And 7 min of it went to "Station to Station" Apparently this album was a fun cocaine-fueled transition album. But again - I don't know Bowie well enough to understand his before period to the next experimental period. Definitely got catchier on additional listens. Slick. I liked Stay too. Some dancing involved

Not as strong as others from the time, but Golden Years still a goat.

I enjoyed this album much more than the other David Bowie album I listened to

David Bowie you mad man Best Song: Wild is the Wind Rating: 7.5/10 (Good) Stars: 3/5

Still have the same reaction this as whenever I first heard it years ago: incredible title track and then nothing really grabs me. I guess I can hear the roots of a War/Killing Joke/LCD Soundsystem riff in there on Stay, but that might just be coincidence.

My third Bowie album and the least interesting of them. Nothing grabbed me on this one.

Not his best. 2.5 stars.

Some bangers on here

Different than the other David Bowie albums. Longer cuts not designed for radio play. Overall, OK

Funky cool album, best Bowie album I’ve encountered so far on this list

I honestly still don't quite get the whole Bowie thing. I like some of his tunes, but never find myself desiring a spin of his albums. I did like this one more than some of the others I have heard and the backing track is pretty tight. 5/10

Intricate instrumentation and soaring vocals. Ideal weed high music.

I've never listened to a Bowie album I didn't like, but there are better Bowie albums than this one. -mitona

The title track is one of Bowie’s best songs. It goes on for over 10 minutes, and it never feels dragging. Word on the Wing is also really good, with a strong vocal performance. I also have to credit his band for their performance throughout. Wild is The Wind is a strong end to the album. However, I can’t get into any of the three singles, so all in all it’s a 6/10

Bowie isn't an artist i'd love to ever turn on, but this one is more listenable for me, than most of his other releases

6/10 Top 3 tracks: 1. Stay 2. golden Years 3. Word on a Wing

I found this rather bland and one paced. At least he made it short though.

Good but overrated Bowie

Slight better than the first two, another kind of art piece though. Good for background music at a party and at work. Just above three cause I already knew Golden Years but idk if I'd add any other of the songs to a playlist but could listen to them if they came up on a playlist or on a roadtrip or something.

Great, another David Bowie.

This was a pretty good album, not one that you hear about alot when talking about David bowie but it was pretty good!

okay unpopular opinion bowie is kind of whiny.

Stepping into one of Bowie’s theatrical worlds is always a welcome escape. The album opens with a strong rock pulse, and from there, his vocals and the instrumentation carry a steady, immersive energy—confident, stylish, and unmistakably his.

The Thin White Duke persona debuts and, with that, decides to get superfunky. One of the things I appreciate the most about Bowie is his chameleonic nature, though in truth this isn't my favorite sounding incarnation.

My first album of the project where I got a repeat artist. I do like this album, it was a good listen. Golden Years was the highlight.

period with Golden Years. Other stuff is good, but what is it missing?

This is a decent Bowie album. I'm not a huge Bowie fan, but I dig this.

Six sings, 36 minutes and track one is ten minutes of that feels like something’s gone wrong. That said station to station in an enjoyable upbeat Bowie track, just not sure it needs to that long. Rest of the tracks are fine but hardly spectacular. Just a reasonable solid album

Having suffered the misfortune of listening to “Heroes” earlier in the Generator, I went into this with low expectations. Just as well, because when we opened with a track that was 10mins long, I feared this was going to be another disaster. Thankfully, the album picked up after that - “Golden Years”, already one of my favourite Bowie songs, and “TVC15” are obviously the standouts. The rest of the tracks are all quite inoffensive, but mostly unmemorable.

So far the generator has given me 55 albums, three of them have been Bowie and the two before this (Heroes and Blackstar) I gave 1/5. I was starting to think it'd purposely set out to prove my previous assumption that I like Bowie was wrong. I like the title track a lot despite it being a bit repetitive and long. Love the bass and piano on it. I have always really loved Golden Years too with it's funky guitar and handclaps. By track 3 (Word on a Wing) it's dawning on me that I have either found a Bowie album I like, or I've now just listened to enough Bowie albums that something has clicked. My Dad had a theory that there was a minimum number of olives you have to eat before you start liking them and maybe this is the audio version of that. I did like the first half better than the first though, so baby steps... In the absence of half stars: 3/5 (and believe me, no one is more surprised than me)

In true Bowie fashion there are a couple of fun songs mixed with some rather average stuff. I don't get why he is so popular

Off the cuff remark: A Bowie album I don't know and after listening through, I haven't been missing out. Standout Track: "Golden Years" a song I seem familiar with, was it a single? Revisit?: If someone else puts it on I'll listen again, but I won't be choosing to.

Fun Bowie, but nothing crazy.

Surprisingly funky at times. Ok songs that haven't been played to death.

"Another one by this guy?" was my first thought. As an officially accredited non-Bowie fan, let me say I wasn't very excited. Much to my disappointment, I must admit that it was surprisingly listenable, which leads me to suspect that this 1001 Albums list is nothing but a big, elaborate scam to repeatedly expose people to David Bowie and to slowly change their opinion on the guy.

It's fine. Not bad, not nearly as great as other Bowie albums though.

Station to Station (7/10) Golden Years (5/10) Word On a Wing (7/10) TVC15 (6/10) Stay (6/10) Wild is the Wind (6/10) 6.2/10

The parts that weren't wanky were good!

There's better Bowie

It’s not a bad albums, all songs are solid; I’d even say the biggest hit, “golden years” is my least favourite. But the first song, “Station to Station” is my favourite although I feel like it has been artificially extended to 1/3 the album’s runtime just to fill space. I’ve listened to EPs longer than this LP

I'm a pretty big Bowie fan, but this album is fairly mediocre. Golden Years is the highlight for sure. 3/5 Album 76

Little poppy, little chaotic. The songs are generally too long. Not a fan of the singing style. I feel pretty indifferent overall.

Station To Station. First time listening to it from start to finish. I remember when it dropped, only Golden Years and TVC15 got airplay. The rest of the B cuts are good enough to make the entire album listenable (which says a lot for a Bowie album.) This one holds up and comes in at (3.3*s) We’ll be hearing from David again.

I overlooked some great songs from this album for way too long. First time listing to it all the way through and it' really good. "Golden Years" is a classic I've always loved, there's no skips on here, strong finish with "Wild is the Wind." Pretty impressive that he created something this good and doesn't even remember it. Bowie is a legend. Easy 3.35 for the Thin White Duke.

The Thin White Duke steps off the train at Union station with an eight ball in pocket, heads to the studio and lays down some pretty decent tracks. Station to Station has eluded me all these years. I was prepared for a one-hitter but the album brings it. Some good unknown tracks are "TVC15" and "Stay" with the funky finish that is the highlight of the record. Title track, although long, is good and moves along through different territories like a traveling train. The slow boys "Word on a Wing" and "Wind Is the Wild" could have been trimmed down. Of course the hit single "Golden Years" stands out but the album as a whole is worthy...2.72 stars.

It's a little hard to sum up Station To Station. It's not a bad album but I'm not sure it's a good album either. It doesn't carry the glitz and glam that some of his other work is known for, but still has effective moments, Golden Years being the best example and a personal favorite. I appreciate the transition into the Thin White Duke phase and Berlin trilogy of his career but I'm still not sure why this one gets so much praise. Side A isn't bad, but by the end of the album it mostly lands in the "meh" department (Golden Years excepted). Bowie takes back the lead with his 5th entry on this list. While I've enjoyed what I've got so far and Bowie's place in rock history absolutely can't be ignored a few of these entries have been a stretch. I'd prefer we thin the heard on some of over-represented acts and make room for something else. I didn't mind Station To Station but I'm not sure there was any specific reason I needed to hear it before I died. 2.69 stars

Yet another David Bowie album. Looks like I've got my first average album in weeks. I appreciate Bowie's singing and lyrics, but not too much. "Station to Station" is nice to listen to when you're bored. However, I don't recommend giving it a spin for casual listening. 3 stars for "Station to Station".

I love Bowie but I do feel he's getting preferential treatment on this list, I believe this is his 4th album I've reviewed and I know there's at least 1-2 more coming. I've listened to all his albums at one point or another, but it's been some time since I did this one from start to finish. The 10 min long title track is unique, almost like two songs in one, and changes pace and mood as it progresses. "Golden Years" is a radio classic and has nearly 90M listens! "Word On A Wing" just wanders, not a memorable track, it feels theatrical and meant for a musical. "TVC15" is familiar but super repetitive. "Stay" jams from the outset, great guitar work & percussion, not a typical Bowie song. "Wild Is The Wind" is just not my thing, got a 70's ethereal vibe but it's over the top - I had a hard time not fast forwarding it, it just never went anywhere. Not my favorite Bowie album. I'd give it 3 stars tops.

Preety good.

Pretty good. Hadn’t heard this except “golden years” which I thoroughly enjoy. Some funky-ness and operatic moments (hello thin white duke). Solid.

Kinda samey throughout but fun

This is really nice. It's no wonder people liked this. Easily a three and maybe even a four star album. The problem with this is that without wild as the wind, there's nothing remarkable enough to keep me coming back. But, wild as the wind does exist so perhaps another listen in the near future.

Fun enough. Sweeping. A little samey throughout. Hard to believe this is coke music.

I think this is the album Bowie said he did too much cocaine to remember recording. Anyway, I'm not a big fan of spooky ghost Bowie, but I like many other forms of Bowie. This had both, and I liked it but didn't love it. Golden Years and TVC 15 are top notch. The rest had things I liked, but those are the standouts. I think my mom also had the 45 of TVC 15 in the 80s. Album cover: (B)

The opener on this album, "Station to Station" is a little like "Funeral for a Friend" by Elton John. It's a long and slow-building song with less frequent vocal sections broken up by piano and electric guitar sections. Even the vocals are vaguely similar in sections. I like it. "TVC15" is also a fun song. These are definitely my favorite Bowie songs I've heard. "Stay" has some sweet guitar. I still don't like Bowie's vocals. It sounds like someone doing a bit. I did however enjoy this album more than any other Bowie record I've listened to. The best songs were the ones I mentioned above, the others I was so-so on. 6/10

Not real identity to this album. Not a bad album butt but great.

This is an interesting album but I’m not sure it lives up to the hype. Perhaps others love the fact he sounds vulnerable and tired, mournful even at points. He is certainly eschewing his trademark pop sensibilities which gives this an interesting direction, but out of all the Bowie records, this is not one of the more memorable.

Weird. Bowie being good again? Who knew?

I can understand why people love David Bowie. And this album is a great mixture of sounds. But it just doesn’t hit for me.

Enjoyed this album. Not to a relisten level but solid nonetheless. Hadn’t listened to much Bowie before this.

I think I knew "Golden Years" but nothing else. TVC15 was the catchiest song - kind of an oddball song (about a TV that eats his girlfriend?). The album as a whole is OK.

Hard to rate an album that is 6 songs long, and Bowie himself was so coked out he doesn't remember recording it. That said 2 of the songs at least (1/3rd of the album!) are pretty classic. So, good Bowie... just to flimsy to be great Bowie.

Some songs hit the existential sound well, but feel often a little too sparse or melodically weak, especially when repeating motifs for several minutes. It's not even that long an album.

I'm starting to realize David Bowie's songs are mediocre with some catchy guitar riffs. Again, not what I'd call a bad album, but definitely not great either. Favorite Track: "Golden Years".

David Bowie had a lot of songs, some of which I liked and some which were so-so. This album follows that format in my opinion. TVC15 and Golden Years are good tracks, and the title track is pretty good. The remaining songs are so-so. The album is only 38 minutes long, so it goes pretty quickly. If this were a ten point scale I’d give it 7 out of 10, but alas it doesn’t quite have enough for me to round up to four stars.

Had a few songs I liked, but nothing to write home about

No standout tracks.

Quite the variety of tracks, and one has to acknowledge David Bowie's as a legend. But overall there's no track that really gripped me straight away.

I can't deny the man has great songwriting and his band has a great sound. But Bowie has a particular style of singing that is to me an acquired taste at best. These particular songs are good to me, but won't seek them out.

Okay to listen to--I guess. Sorta

My first real dive into Bowie.

The production and music are great, but I found this a little tedious in parts. I think I'm more into rock n roll and ambient Bowie than the crooning wailer. That's not a criticism, just a preference

I found this to be a middling Bowie album which puts it above a number of other artists but not near his best. I would listen to these songs in a compilation but not the album alone.

I like david Bowie, but why did they pick this album. Like it's okay, but jts not his stand out hit. It was strong, but couple of the 6 songs were background noise. Good though

whole ass minute of nothing on the opening track is crazy. pretty mid nothing to write home about.

Okay. Golden years has funky guitar. me like

I gotta be honest, didn't listen very attentively to this one but i certainly enjoyed the songs I heard more than the last Bowie album, Aladdin.

This was an okay album, nothing too exciting, a bit meh, but it was alright as a background listen.

I didn’t immediately recognize any of the song titles on this record, not that I’ve ever considered myself to be much of a Bowie fan, but I was certainly curious going into this record to see if I’ve been missing out on something great. I recognize the song “Golden Years” but admittedly I didn’t know that it was a David Bowie song. It’s just one of those generic mid to late 70’s tracks that you hear on the radio or in movies, but never really listen to. Or at least that’s what it’s always been to me. This album is certainly interesting. It sort of vacillates between a few different styles, but all of them feel natural and unforced coming from David Bowie. I find it interesting how influential this style was on later artists, even up to recently released music. I can hear an incredible amount of similarity between the vocal style on “Stay” and Jack Stauber. I’m not really sure I’ll ever listen to this album again, it’s not really something I’d choose to put on, but that’s not to say I didn’t enjoy listening to it. It was a fun experience and I’m glad I did. 3*

Enjoyed it but not my fave of Bowies. Fades into the background a bit.

Classic, if not immediate, Bowie. Not my favourite Bowie album, but very listenable.

Better than the other better production

Golden years is great, the rest of the album is meh

Good Bowie Album. Not my favorite.

I once went out with a person who liked the car seat headrest cover of golden years better than bowies. I really should have known in that second it was not gonna work

It's a good album with at least 1 song I immediately liked. But it's not memorable for me.

This was a good, solid, Bowie album. And while I certainly enjoyed it, it’s another one that didn’t blow me away, leaving me wondering if I’m missing something. What makes this so great that it’s in this list?

I love a bit of bowie but this one wasn't to my particular liking. Golden Years on repeat in my mind though. What a hook.

Not my favorite Bowie album but some good songs on here. If you know Bowie you know what you´re going to get.

Don’t particularly care for this album, in fact i sometimes feel like David Bowie is a bit overrated. When someone is consistently putting out albums as he did, not all will be winners, and I have heard some amazing stuff from him, but this was just average in my opinion. 3/5

I don't think I'm a big David Bowie fan, it feels like he sits somewhere in the middle of Queen and the Talking heads but I don't enjoy either end of that too much on this album. Not bad though.

unfortunately this just didn’t stand out to me. I believe it was good, just not sure why

I always expect a lot more from Bowie than I get. Maybe that's on me and my expectations.

Good stuff. Didn’t love it, but have always liked Bowie

it's david bowie so it will never be bad but I will say this also didn't have any songs I was that impressed by

Not my kind of music personally, but i made it to the end.

Wow... the 8th Bowie album... so far. I get it - he's cool. But man, do I really need to listen to EVERYTHING he's ever recorded? This was good. I didn't love it but that's basically how I feel about a lot of Bowie's work. Interesting. Sometimes spectacular. Often times just ok.

Frankly, I just can’t get into Bowie, it might be a generation thing (born mid 90’s), but I just don’t like it. This is the second album on this site that I’ve listened from start to finish where I thought maybe I’ll finally change my mind, nope - no change. It’s not awful, but I don’t see the popularity like others may have in DB. Down the middle, 5/10 for me.

Pretty cool, I imagine bowie was genre bending asf back in the 70s.

03/04/2025 I'm not fussed by the Bowie and I'm not fussed by this album.

Not my fave bowie album but definitely worth a listen

Pretty good, beginning wasn't super interesting but it started to pick up momentum after the 10 minute opener and sound like classic Bowie. I'm sure this blew people's minds back in 1979 it is forward thinking at times. Apparently he was zonked on coke the entire time while making this album which is cool. Overall, its no space oddity but pretty solid.

I actually enjoy this a little more than other Bowie records. I still don't think that it's something extremely new, but it's better than others.

Pretty decent! 3.0

Went on a whole journey. An eclectic mix of styles. Funky and unique. Bowie is his own genre. He knows how to tell a story. Full of soul. Felt like a musical. Quite a bit of repetition though.

It has some good parts. The songs are very long and don't keep my attention. Favorite song: station to station

Interesting to hear this Bowie music. I think of his music as being much more highly produced, and borderline pop. This was much funkier and rock. I don't like the vocals though, not his voice or the mic being used.

My first time actually listening to a Bowie record in full. Most of these songs felt too long and kinda lost me at the halfway point, although the intros had caught me beforehand. It was also too theatrical at times for my taste. That being said - I could still appreciate it for what it was. The album is well put together and went out with the best two songs in my opinion. 'Stay' and 'Wild With The Wind' I really enjoyed and went back to after listening to the whole thing through. Not sure if I'll ever fully get into it, though.

It’s an average Bowie album, but an average Bowie is better than most peoples best - some good tracks but some that kind of fade in to each other. Wild is the Wind is a favourite of mine and you can’t deny Golden Years either.

more bowie who can complain

I never liked Bowie much. I didn't much like this.

6.5 Boy there sure are a lot of Bowie albums on this list. All they are doing for me is confirming that he is not as great an album artist as his reputation would say. This was fine, even nice, but was by far the most commercial of his albums I’ve heard. That made it a smooth but unchallenging listen. Art rock mixed with plastic soul. Well played, you can hear the quality in Alomqr’s guitar playing. Best: Golden Years

As per usual with Bowie's albums, some good and some bad. Golden Years is one of my favorite songs ever but some songs David gets a little ghoulish for me. Short album but the longer songs made it feel longer. 5.5/10 (2.75/5)

I know there are some amazing David bowie songs, but none of them were here. Good but not spectacular

I really liked golden years and some other songs later in the album I remember liking. But idk why the opening track was a million years long. I have no problem with long songs but that one was long for no reason so it just made it less good.

I don’t really want to write a review for this one but it was alright, some good stuff for sure and probably deserves more than a 3 but I think I just didn’t listen to and digest it enough.

Particular, pero me gusta

I believe this is the 133rd Bowie album on this list. While I enjoy some of Bowies work…..not all. As far his albums go, this one is more accessible than earlier albums but not as much as later albums.

Was fine. Not a massive bowie fan

Not his best

Not offensive to the ears

A bit too weird for me, found some songs grating to listen to.

Love David Bowie. This was a cool album but not one of my favorites. It’s always fun to listen to Bowie get more creative and aim less for radio hits, but you definitely lose a little bit of memorability in the process.

Lyssnat rätt mycket. Hoppats att det skulle bli bättre. Men upplever det ändå rätt sisådär. Wild is the wind är bäst.

Another Mr Bowie album, once again I didn’t hate it. He was definitely tapping into his weirder side at this point. I really need to rate the albums as I listen so I don’t forget my thought processes :(

Finally, a Bowie album I can listen to! I'm not a Bowie fan, and i know he's a legend, but I question some of the choices. I'm guessing the author of the list is a big fan. Liked Songs Added: Golden Years TVC15

It's David Bowie

the opening title track is really good. Golden Years is a nice soul song the rest is pretty forgettable

Enjoyable but I can only really give it a 3.

Solid, but didn’t blow me away.

a primeira faixa é perfeita. 3,5

Eh not his best work. Just decent. More of a fan of the Ziggy era

uhhh mid, one lovely song

70s Bowie (with some 80s sprinkled in for good measure) was the best Bowie, even with his tendency to constantly reinvent himself. This album is good, if a little uneven, and it's missing obivious, stand-out hits. However, the title track and Wild is the Wind alone are enough to make this album aat least very competent. The rest of the tracks don't need to hide either. 3/5

A decent album with some hits. I think David Bowie is just not for me though. Still- definitely wasnt bad, just didnt capture me

It was okay, but nothing really that tickled my fancy.

I simply don't get the worlds fascination with David Bowie - especially this album. Its just OK

Pretty alright. Nothing stood out but Bowie still delivers

It was good. I see why people love it. But you have to be the right person and in the right mood.

A major turning point in Bowie's career. Can't really say much past that.

Good music. Old but good

I usually really enjoy Bowie albums. In fact, he’s probably been one of the most consistently high scorers with this album journey. However, for whatever reason, this one just didn’t really resonate with me. It was still fine, and there’s nothing I’d exactly say is bad, but it felt more appropriate to have on in the background rather than at the forefront of my attention. It’s no secret that Bowie liked to jump between genres a lot, but this seemed to fall in no-man’s-land for me, not really being anything graspable. Still not bad, by any means, but a lower standard than I’m used to from him.

Rock, 1976 -> 3

smells of Bowie all around but not one of his best works

Nota: 2.9

Was an ok album. Nothing earth shattering.

budget talking heads (:

It was fine. There are much better Bowie albums

This is our third or fourth Bowie album and it's been a very strange introduction to his as an artist. This album was enjoyable, but I also don't see myself listening to it a ton. "Golden Years" is a standout for me but otherwise the songs didn't strike me much. I'm still holding out hope for Bowie to get a 4 or 5 for one of his most popular albums.

Album bom, mas nada fenomenal. Ultimo album de personas dele. um solido 7/10

"Golden Years" is grating, the rest of it is decent.

7/10 Highlights: Station To Station Word on a Wing

7/10 Highlights Wild is the wind

Truly this list must have every Bowie album. I like this, but I don't necessarily think it's a must listen.

Doesn't live up to its reputation, although Word on a Wing was a standout

Monsieur Bowie, we do like.

There are probably too many Bowie albums on this list but he’s earned it more than Steely Dan. Typical Bowie in that I have no idea what’s happening on this album but I enjoyed it nonetheless. High 3

Cool opening - planet telex much? 1:10… okay, I take back the planet telex comment 2:53, oh yeah funky 6:34, I feel like I should be enjoying this song more than I am.. I’m not jamming, but I know it’s good. Station to station just ended.. it’s too late! Next track I like golden years much more! Good song.. Word on a wing is making me sad :( May be my favourite track so far.. I like that organ swell, us and them.. TVC15, I can already tell I probably won’t like this one It’s actually pretty good, TRAAANSITION🪬🪬🪬🔮🔮🔮🦄 Stay! Oooooh! I love the guitar here Wild is the wind is a Bowie song.. not much else I have to say, I like the guitar

Yeah this is some okay Bowie. Nowhere near my favorite but also not bad. Just doesn't really click with me at all

just not for me man :/

Def a fun listen and very smooth in the background, this album didn’t quick impress me enough while I appreciate the technical skills and lyricism It maybe getting seemingly a dozen early 70s rocks album in a row but the level of enjoyment wasn’t higher than a 3 for me

I’d give it 5/10 as much as I do like some of David Bowie’s other songs this album sounded like it’d be in a horror or suspense film and as much as I wanted to like it I couldn’t I only liked one song Favorite song - “golden years” Least favorite - “Wild is the wind” Most unique - “TVC15”

It took me a while to understand that the narrative of a hollywood superstar first started with this generation of artists. The ones that did everything, from singing to creating art to staring in major hollywood blockbusters, this was the “peak” of hollywood. I do not have a fully formed opinion about the level of hollywood’s output at that time -I trully hope it was better than what it is now- but to my mind it looks and feels like the same level of stupidity is bound to apply there as well. Having said that, I can see a vision when I invest a little bit of time listening to this album and tie it with the movie that it was released with. Having scrolled, skimmed rather, through the commends I can see that a lot of people share this thought so I can go on a limb and say that this is not a far fetched idea. The post apocalyptic vibe of the songs, the do not care about anything attitude because it does not matter, the I am living in the moment because there is nothing more to about, these are my first and quite frankly only thoughts about the songs. Maybe I was not invested enough to see this all the way through. Don’t get me wrong, this is not a bad album, musicly it sounds flawless, it does not take a lot of risks. It is an album that keeps a good level, rather uninteresting, and focuses on the story behind it. I would say, fits whatever they were going for in Hollywood at the time, the superfans that were going to see everything cause Bowie was a superstar, so they were trying to compartmentalise the concept to create a bigger profit. I would not say this album has a start, a middle and a finish like some of the better albums I have listened. It just has a story that does not try to hard to tell you because then it was easier to sell because of Bowie’s name. Average but not to average…

Meh. Fine. Its barely a full album. It's only on here because it's bowie.

Would probably need a second listen but loved some of the songs in it. Wild is the wind in particular

"golden years" and "wild is the wind" are bangers but most of this album feels like a warm up for the Berlin trilogy. 3.5

Experimental rock album, an in-between album, before David Bowie turns into an interntional pop star.

A good album but really pales in comparison to the other albums in his discography. The disco elements are nice and show his adaptability. 3/5

I'm sorry, but there are better albums from him.

Not one of the better Bowie albums. Some nice moments but I struggled to get into it and find an identity with it. Not quite sure what it was trying to be really. Certainly better Bowie albums out there. Probably one for the purists.

Rather chilled and unusually for Bowie isn’t very challenging to the listener. It’s just ‘OK’ isn’t it, nothing stands out particularly, and I have nothing of interest to say on the matter.

It’s not bad, but not his best work. Too 70s

I know this one has a legendary reputation but it's not by a mile my favourite Bowie

Bowie! Need I say more

Well by now over the course of 1001+ albums i expect to listen to every Bowie recording. If they are all as good as this one, that will be OK. Still, I am not convinced this album should stand with Young Americans, for instance.

Fav was stay

These kinds of albums I was waiting for! Music history that I've never gotten around to listening. I wish there was someone explaining the importance and relation to the time period, just contextualizing the whole thing for me. Just by the music alone I'm not wildly impressed, I mean Bowie is great, very recognizable and creative master, but still this leaves me feeling a bit... meh. Couple of songs had cool parts to them, that hadn't aged at all.

Certainly seems to deserve further listens; it definitely hooked me more than the other Bowie album, but I think it can only be a grower. I don't feel like i have it cracked.

I liked listening to this but in the grand scheme of the Bowie discography it felt less than essential.

Very nice

not much more than golden years… could i write poetry to this? n

We really don't need (at least) six Bowie albums on this list. My god.

A bit experimental, you have to be in the mood - at least for me.

Golden Years is the song I know from this album. Rest is ok too 3/5

I enjoy David Bowie. Not one of his best but enjoyable.

This is my fourth Bowie album, and I still don't get it.

Three stars for a good album that is just not a favorite artist for me, and after reading the full Wikipedia article - just, yikes. It’s a good thing Mr. Bowie received the help he needed.

It’s Bowie so I’ll like it, but compared to other Bowie albums it’s not as good.

Solid Bowie album, nothing special.

No. 271/1001 Station To Station 2/5 (3x) Golden Years 3/5 Word On A Wing 3/5 (2x) TVC15 3/5 (2x) Stay 2/5 (2x) Wild is the Wind 3/5 (2x) Average: 2,58 Worst Bowie record on the list so far.

Liked the instrumentals, but Bowie's voice is a mood (that I wasn't in that day!)

A classic Bowie moment!

I enjoyed the journey, and the album has a lot of depth and wide genre blending but it didn't really stick that much. It's an album that probably gets better with more listens. Best song: Station to Station Worst song: TVC 15

At first I thought, can an album be 5 star worthy if there are only 6 songs on it? Especially if the band isn’t Pink Floyd? Then Station to Station comes on and it sounds like Pink Floyd to start and it’s 10 minutes long. Note taken. Well, it’s definitely not a Pink Floyd album and it’s not David Bowie’s attempt at a Pink Floyd album. Like every Bowie album I’ve heard, which is 4 of them, this album just kind of hovers between good and ok. There’s not much to it. This won’t make or break someone’s decision to listen to Bowie again.

This feels like a weird album to get for my first David Bowie album. People seem to really like Station to Station, but I couldn’t really get into it. It’s fine, but this isn’t my favorite David Bowie material. Most of it is average and it doesn’t help that 5 out of the 6 songs go over 5 minutes. The songs are pretty good however, and I like the diversity of it. Golden Years is a pretty good funk/disco romp and TVC15 is a solid art rock track that has Bowie tap into something like the Talking Heads. It’s a 3.5 for me, as four seems too high. Favorite track: TVC15 Other hits: Golden Years, Stay, Wild is the Wind

I typically like Bowie, but this was not my favorite.

This definitely influenced a zillion bands, inc. QOTSA.

First sing fucks, rest is good but not amazing for Bowie

I just ain't in to David Bowie like that.

Nisam do sada slušao iako sam upoznat s životom Bowiea. Mislim, tko nije?

One of my less favoured Bowie records though to be fair, after the first track it picks up a lot.

It's fine. A bit too funky/disco, for my tastes, I'd rather listen to ziggy stardust any day.

Not his most outstanding work by any means, but only because Bowie set himself such an astronomically high standard throughout his career. One of the few artists who deserve to have more than two albums on this list. We were lucky to walk the earth at the same time as David Bowie

Yes, it was okay, but I'm not really into Bowie. Might try it again at some point. 3.5 stars, but giving it 3.

Ive always liked Golden Years....but never heard any of the rest of this album. If you want to hear Bowie high on cocaine, apparently this is the album for you. Might have been better in LSD. 3.4 since it has a great song, the rest is just blah.

Over rated album. Sure, there’s a lot going on in terms of the usual music you hear in the grocery store, but it’s not great. It’s cluttered sounds and Bowie is overly dramatic in his vocals. I appreciate his art but I’ll never listen to this album again.

An alright album. I like David Bowie's music in general.

This is my FIFTH David Bowie album! How many more are they going to throw at me? There's no doubt that he should appear somewhere among the 1001 albums but FIVE albums worth?! I'm not so sure... This was definitely better than a 2 but wasn't consistently interesting enough to give it a 4. 3.5/5 An enjoyable listen.

David Bowie is one of those artists I can respect, but I just can’t get into most of his music aside from a few singles. Station to Station has some strong moments and you can tell he’s pushing boundaries, but the album didn’t really grab me. The songs are well-crafted and Bowie’s style is unmistakable, but it all felt a little distant. It’s clear why people love this record, but for me, it was just okay. I appreciate the artistry more than I actually enjoyed the listen.

Classic Bowie - nothing really stood out though, but it was a good listen

# 323 : Only six songs? Wow-wee what an impressive degree of variety. Good album, has a hit or two as well. Favourite Track : Golden Years

Probably won't be an album I think to play, but if it was playing then I wouldn't feel like changing it

Bowie has some really great songs. The rest are usually just kind of there. Or a little too out there. This album seems to fall mostly into the middle category for me.

First album on this journey, really excited to listen to the essential albums of all time. I've never been the biggest Bowie fan but enjoy some of his music so this was a good first listen to start the journey. Overall, I liked the album. Found it hard to hear lyrics at times but enjoyed the flow of the music. Not to much to say about this one.

Good album. Bowie style but in the style of the moment, 1976, too. Recognizable jam and some extended cuts. Not my favorite Bowie.

Pretty good album.

It was okay

I wanted to like this album more than I did. Some nasty riffs but honestly just didn't enjoy when Bowie was singing that much.

Enjoyable album. Bowie as part of his Thin White Duke persona

Helt klart David Bowie.

Nothing too memorable, but some good music.

Not my favourite Bowie album

Very 70s glammy overproduction, but some catchy Bowie hooks to keep you going.

I don't know Bowie's music that well, just not of my time. I enjoyed this more than Ziggy Stardust. It gave more of a feel of "regular" Bowie. It is great music but I guess I just don't really like his singing style so nothing stands out to me. Overall, a well put together album that doesn't overstay its welcome.

Not my favorite Bowie record but every song felt so unique but notably Bowie. Lots of good grooves. Always a pleasure listening to Bowie.

Mileage always varies with David Bowie. When I'm in the right mood I really enjoy much of his stuff. When I'm not, he grates on my nerves. This one I find strangely muted and low key. Neither particularly good or bad.

its obvious why is good, but its really not my vibe

Solid Bowie but not among his best IMHO

The band is funky and very tight, the production is lush with layers and layers of synths, spacey effects, overdubbed vocals, disco beats, and fuzzy guitar solos and little neo-soul fills. The songs feel kind of baggy though, overlong and under formed and the vocals, delivered in the classic nasal Bowie style, don't really stand out to provide a catchy anchor point. Its post-pop/rock in its aspirations, more like astral psychedelic dance music that wants to ride the vibe and float around the groove. Favorites: Stay, Word on a Wing, Wild is the Wind, golden years

Not Bowie's best for my ear, but Wild Is The Wind is beautiful.

I feel nothing

Favorite Track: TVC15
