Du wrap trop bof, pas mon genre

This is not my kind of scene This is not my kind of dream Apparently a history making album so ,⭐

This album is very (very!) insipid and uninteresting for me. I've said the same thing about the other hip-hop albums that I've had to listen to, but this opinion doesn't change as I go through more of them. Then, I guess it's that this genre doesn't interest me in the least, but, again, I will always be open-minded when listening to those albums. Yet it always comes to confirm me that this genre sounds very bland to me. This album is very long for songs that sound exactly the same. The sampling in this one is well done, sounds fluid and nicely combined with the other elements of the songs but... I just don't get the hype with this genre, it is interesting in theory but very boring for me when I start to listen to it.

This started off cool but got old quick. From the repetitive beats to Chuck D’s monotone voice, by the end of the album I wanted to cut off my ears. One song blended into another and it grew tiresome and again why does every rap album need to go for so long?

Not great Kind of boring Skipped a couple songs

Talking over a beat track. Not my jam

was horrible just an irritating noise

As a listener, I tend to be more connected to music than lyrics, but I'm hoping that I will someday find the album that makes me a fan of hip hop. Unfortunately, while I respect it, this album isn't it for me.

not for me

Clearly this is a classic, but musically it mostly just seems to be people saying random phrases over drum beats. Hard to give this more than a 1 from my own perspective.

I know it's groundbreaking, but I cannot stand it

I just can't get through a hip-hop album, no matter how good it may (or may not) be.

I'll say the same thing as I did about their last album here - it was an enemy to my musical enjoyment.

Not for me

This style of hip-hop is extremely grating to me. Message aside, there just isn't anything to hold onto musically here. 1.5

Naporno za slušati, dosadno i bezveze. 1/5, 1/10

BEST SONGS: - Can't Do Nuttin' For Ya, Man!

Oof no. Sorry but this was terrible! Repetitive and over an hour long?! Torture. That's what that was 1 ⭐️

The beats were fine but all that talking get to be too much.

Listened to before: Partially I tried, I promise. Every few years I try to listen to PE, because I know of their musical and political significance. But they are not for me. I find their music exhausting and that does not seem to change with multiple spins. Sorry PE

just not my style :)

Nahhhh

This sucked. 1.5*

My ears are bleeding

Might have scored slightly higher but in one song they mugged off Elvis calling him a racist. I ain’t having that!

Shit sucked. Way too sampled, not an ounce of musicality

Not a rap fan, this sounds just like so many other rap artists

Boring and unoriginal

They tried hard. But it was still dull. Also, I was driving when I played the album. Got tricked by some unnecessary sirens!! And many other strange sounds that made me doubt if I had some issue with my car!

Absolute shite. The more exposure I have to this genre the more I hate it.

That album was incredibly hard to listen to and may be my least favorite hip hop album on here. I had to take a break half way through because I was getting a headache with so much going on at all time. Between the beats, the random noises, the talking, and whatever the hell Flava Flav was doing in the background. This made for an absolute mess of noise for me

Not a fan.

Public Enemy, in this instance, seems to be not only an Enemy of the Public but also of themselves. Because these guys are clearly musically talented – but the sound is just not engaging or memorable enough to warrant a positive review. The sound experimentation in Power To The People, Anti-Nerd Machine, and Leave This Off Your Charts (among other tracks) is irritating and hasn't aged well in the slightest. All of the singing/rapping is just anonymous shouting with no personality, no emotion other than performative anger. Nothing that makes me want to re-approach the music for a relisten. I had the same problem with the group's previous release, It Takes A Nation Of Millions. Although, in the case of FOABP, there are exactly two tracks I enjoyed amidst the sea of nothingness (Pollywanacraka, Final Count, and Fight The Power). What surprised me, looking at the other reviews here, is that this seems to be a highly regarded album even when compared to other hip-hop releases from the same period. Listeners praise FOABP for being rowdy, rude, and in your face, for having weighty lyrics and a relentless vocal delivery. I don't tend to pay attention to lyrics unless they're particularly terrible, so we can discount them in this case. Everything else mentioned are reasons I dislike this style of music. The relentless vocal delivery comes off as monotone and forced rather than whatever enthusiasm it was trying to achieve. (At least have some mellower tracks to split up the onslaught of bellowed cursing?) It feels haphazard, tactless, and kind of against the whole notion of music as an art. There's no subtlety, nor any attempt at it. Just shouting, scattered sampling from other artists (less impressive than it sounds), and hardly any humanity in the instrumentation. I agree with another reviewer here: "As far as I understand, this album is quite important for the history of hip-hop. But definitely, absolutely, without any question not for me." 1/5 Key tracks: Pollywanacraka, Final Count, Fight The Power

did we need 2 public enemy albums on the list?

Boring

I had a song by Public Enemy in the back of my mind, but I can't find it anymore. The background music to the aggressive chanting was quite interesting at times. But it didn't encourage me to listen to more of the album than short snippets of a few tracks. Hip hop is not my genre (is it music?) 1/5

I dont like it, it is not my genre sowy

I know I have songs I like by Public Enemy but none is on this album. I'm missing the point - to me this is an album I could be without. Didn't enjoy it, couldn't appreciate it. I sound pessimistic but.. This is just a bunch of pointless annoyance for me.

Public Enemy bliver bare ikke mig

Die nächste Ladung Schrott!

No RAP

I don't like rap

Did not enjoy at all. Soundtrack of chaos.

Hip hop not my thing

A lot of people like this stuff ... I'm not one of them. Made it about half-way through.

I’m glad this was before my time

Same beat for 3/4 of the songs.

Hip-Hop

I just don't like this. Like, there's nothing enjoyable about this to me.

Naw, not really.

No music, just noise!

Don’t do Anti-Semites…don’t do anti-any race. Sick of all this weak shit.

Can't even listen to this

Rap bien de mierda, del inescuchable horrible.

Not my cup of tea

If you like repetitive obnoxious sounds, this is for you.

I tried but it is just not my thing...

The first half of this was alright, but by the time I got to the second half I was ready for it to finish. A bit too attention grabbing/distracting for me! Ended up skipping the last few songs as they were putting me in a bad mood

Gefällt mir nicht

I don’t really listen to lyrics when I’m listening to music so there could be a decent message in this album, but the rappers had no flow, there were no catchy choruses or hooks, the beats were exhausting with annoying sounds and never changing. Old rap doesn’t age too well. Not for me. I’m glad I heard the reno911 theme song in full.

Not my taste/type of music. I try to be broad minded but this sounded like discordant sounds to me.

Hip Hop is my lowest rated genre, barely beating Electronica…. It is just not my thing. I’ve had on other Public Enemy album, it rated 1/5 for me. I don’t like the lack of any sort of melody, nothing approaching a “hook”. No discernible verse-chorus type structure. I just don’t like the scratches and squeals and samples and such. This seems to be a very well respected album, with Platinum sales, and 4x songs that were atop 11 on the Rap charts. It ranked #300 on Rolling Stone’s greatest albums list. It was certainly successful. It’s well put together. I can see where the messages resonate with a lot of people. It’s just not a style of music that I like. Similar to I don’t like Opera. All that said, I like this one a little better than the previous one (It takes a nation…). I but I didn’t make it all the way through the 63 minutes, so I guess it’s still a 1/5

Annoying and tiresome music I roll my eyes any time I see a review praising the “message” of this album lmao

No fear ... this album is crap. Nothing worth listening to as it is an expression of personal beliefs. If 0 rating available that would still be too high

i do not like hip hop

Not my style at all.

I only listened to part of this album, but I would rather dive off the top of a building than listen again. The screaming and repetitive beats really annoyed me.

Fear of a boring fucking album

I’m not one for political statements to be made in music and this again is one where I’m just not that interested.

I really don't like hip-hop but this isn't the worst of it by far. I couldn't get through the album though.

I have listened to a fair bit of hip-hop but this older style with that looping beat is just on my type.

Not my jam.

0 appreciation for this, not sure how this was groundbreaking. Blissful ignorance.

Niet mijn ding, niet alle nummers afgeluisterd want kom er anders niet doorheen haha Geen nummers opgeslagen, dus dit wordt m'n eerste 1 ster Would not buy

Something about this makes it particularly unlistenable for me

couldn’t get through it. i tried.

This isn't music.

I think, by now, we've all worked out I don't like this genre of music.

Sorry for all the hip hop and rap records I rate low because I don't vibe with it. Happy the list isn't only the same bland of rock from the 60ties and 70ties.

no hay 1 tema que me guste:)

No thanks. Not a fan of hip hop, and this is not the album that could make me change direction

A cacophony of samples. Couldn't relax

san andreas-core lol @ track 8's name

Önskar jag kunde sätta minuspoäng.

horrendous.

Not a rap fan

Inte min grej

i reckon scott kelly gives all these albums such high marks because he's trying to get a pass for the N word.

Public enemy wasn’t made for me. I try but it’s just not me.

Solid 3/10. I didn't like the rap-esque lyrical movement. The beats were nice; it reminded me of Jet Set Radio. All in all it was an experience but not a good one

Can see why it’s in the list just wasn’t for me

Was looking forward to listen to todays album on the train from Copenhagen to Nyborg. But as it sounded like something be was scrolling through a lot of different channels I decided to listen to it another time. I listened to it when I was back in my lovely boarding room. This is not what I wanted to listen to being very tired after having recovered from a hangover and a whole weekend in Copenhagen. Not gonna lie, when I discovered that the album was one hour long, I stopped listening to it.

The opening track is promising ... but then the rapping starts, making this anbearable fast. The backing tracks - as far as I could make out - are a little bit better than on most other albums of the genre, but that's where the positivity stops. To sum up: Hip Hop. 1/5

Not my cup of tea

Didn't like this.

started this one several times, never got through it. sorry

The generator just gave me albums from Tribe and De La Soul that came out around the same time. And those are way better. Those guys are more creative with their beats, more natural with their flow, generally more playful, and more upbeat and positive. A fair amount of the solos on Fear of a Black Planet are kind of stilted, and it just really beats you down to listen to a whole hour-long record that is so overwhelmingly negative. When they're not on - and most of the record aside from really the last half of the last song is not - they're really off.

Zero Stars. Fear of a Crap Planet.

the whole album felt pretty scattered. I think it was meant more so a showcase for each artist, but they hardly sound any different from each other so it is goop

not my bag

(Content warning: this review includes a discussion of anti-Semitic statements.) A while ago, during a review of Gang Starr's Step in the Arena, I wondered if there was a term for the period in hip-hop from 1987 to 1992, which saw the genre both go mainstream and mutate into something almost unrecognisable. Well, Wikipedia designates this period as golden age hip-hop, which strikes me as a slightly lazy terming, but that's just a quibble. In any case, the most critically feted act from that period is surely Public Enemy. Explicly political, explicitly pugnacious, Public Enemy took both their philosophy and rhetoric not so much from the mainstream civil rights movement, but from the more hard-line Black Power movement, which within its membership has had elements espousing black nationalism, black self-determination and, at its most extreme end, black separatism and black supremacism. In my review of Tracy Chapman's first album, I questioned the depth of her political statements, as I found them essentially platitudinous, at their hearts just pleas for better public services. But what about the opposite case, when the act evinces a position that is radical to the point of outrage? For instance, the Clash would wear t-shirts bearing Brigade Rosse, an Italian commmunist terrorist group who were responsible for the murder of around 50 people. In retrospect, I think it's as plain as day that Joe Strummer was being a silly sausage, and the Clash's somewhat callow glorification of far-left rebellion has aged as well as communism. But Public Enemy, especially with the album Fear of a Black Planet, represents perhaps the platonic example of a major group vaunting immoderate politics and inviting justified indignation. Beforehand, Public Enemy had, with lyrics declaring Louis Farrakhan "a prophet", indicated that their stance was not as mainstream as, say, the condemnation of police brutality. But then Professor Griff, both Public Enemy's Minister of Information and their Bez, gave an interview to The Washington Times, where he declared that Jews were "responsible of the majority of wickedness in the world." This was not the first time he had expressed anti-Semitic views in an interview (also, he was openly homophobic in the same interview, and again this was not the first time he had berated an interviewer homophobically). Leader Chuck D dithered, initially firing Professor Griff then inviting him back. You should note an unsettling taste developing in your mouth. This album emerged in the aftershocks of all this. And this album has openly anti-Semitic and homophobic lyrics (I'll spare you, you can look them up yourselves). It also spouts long-disproven conspiracy theories and avows positions that, I suspect, most people will find nonsensical and rather unpleasant. This is not in any way to dilute the seriousness of racial issues in the States and beyond, but rather to hope for a more sober, considered take on important political issues. For all the righteous anger supposedly driving this album, the listener should take it as gimmicky, as a childish tack in lieu of intellectual sophistication. Also, the album's length and the lack of musical relent become wearying, and finishing the album degenerates to a chore. By the by, Public Enemy didn't stop there with the anti-Semitism. Their 1999 album There's a Poison Goin' On includes the song Swindler's Lust (again, I won't be quoting the lyrics), and soon after that Chuck D and Professor Griff formed a side project named Confrontation Camp. Who on earth is still championing Public Enemy? 4chan?

Raskasta kuunnella työn teon lomassa. Aika paljon tuli skippailtua biisejä kesken, mitä en normaalisti ollenkaan tee tämän levyprojektin kanssa ainakaan. Sekava pläjäys. Tuokaa minulle mieluummin Puhuvia Päitä.

no way

Song ausgemacht, braucht kein Mensch.

Soulful, jazzy, easy listening Love the "Jazz band" sound Top points to the double bass Voice drops out slightly at points
