Reviews (page 8 of 14)
Yeah - this one’s hard for me. I honestly like this album in the way I always have - Radiohead for yoga practitioners. It goes down smoothly. But… well… I suppose everyone says it. It’s maybe too smooth, too easily in the background, too lacking in content that can’t be easily moved from one story line to another at will. So… 3. Boolean: yeah, I do think one should listen to the music that is most listened to for understanding, if nothing else. And, you know, it is easy to listen to.
Meh fine. Mid. Popular but not sure why
Some good songs. Not sure it really holds together as an album...
Very ok music, sounds like mediocre b-sides off Hail to the Thief; Perfect for a pharmaceutical commerical.
Some good hits but also a few forgettable songs
good.
This is wussy music for wusses, but damn it's catchy as hell. Do yourself a favor and listen to the covers of The Scientist by Aimee Mann and Willie Nelson, they both blow Coldplay's version out of the water.
Overall not my vibe, Clocks is a bop
Melancholic alternative rock built on chiming guitars, piano-led arrangements, steady drums, and plaintive, clear vocals unfolds with restrained emotional weight. Listening feels like watching rain trace the same path down a window—familiar patterns repeating with quiet intensity. The result is earnest, atmospheric, and monotonous.
Great opening track and some good moments, not as good as parachutes
Still some good tunes and some less good tunes
Very vanilla
pas hyper familière avec la musique de coldplay à la base mais j’ai bien aimé !
Songs of my teen years. Fun little jaunt down memory lane.
No está mal, porque me gusta Coldplay, pero no me quedé con ninguna nueva a partir de las dos que ya me gustaban
Nice listen but im not one for slow sappy love/melancholic songs. The melody for Clocks was my favourite. I did like the album a lot.
Lotta nostalgia like 2010s songs but not totally my vibe of music. Still a good selection
The scientist is a classic, clocks is good. Coldplay has better albums, but this one is pretty solid.
If someone I know showed up at my door with tickets to a Coldplay concert and said, "bro, you gotta go with me," I'd probably go and have a fine time. If two tickets to a Coldplay concert were on the other side of a fence and I had to stretch a lot to reach them, I'd probably just leave them on the ground. It's Coldplay. It's fine. I think I listened to the whole thing, but it's hard to remember. I get they have a huge cultural impact. I can't really go lower than a 3, because it's so inoffensive, but it's also hard to go any higher.
gran album, buenos temas. Algunos no son tan faciles de escuchar
I like some of Coldplay….they have this very laidback feel as humans which I like….seem like happy people BUT I need to be in the mood. I don’t feel as though the actual music is that special and it’s more of the vibe I like at times.
Coldplay isn’t nearly as bad as some people say. But they’re definitely not as good as other people say either.
Decent, I liked Clocks best
It’s fine
Me gustó. Siento que el álbum tiene un hilo conductor que sigue como concepto y eso siempre me agrada.
All of Coldplay sounds the same and this album felt like it would never end. Although, this is not the worse thing I’ve ever listened too (sex packets I’m looking at you)
Coldplay is for a very different crowd than I. It’s hard to enjoy and band that doesn’t use distortion as a weapon and reverb to fill the gaps so that the sound is both raw and live. Coldplay is essentially Steely Dan for millennials. The effect of sanding rough edges off every track leaves essentially a lifeless mess. This is not to say that there isn’t some good songwriting. There is. It’s hard not to deny the appeal of songs like The Scientist or Clocks because they follow the formula and Chris Martin sings them well enough so that CEOs who are cheating on their spouse will willingly attend with their girlfriend to an evening of wildly predictable piano driven soft rock. Safe. This is safe music for old people. People who will swear this is the best show they have ever seen. Safe, except for when they put your cheating CEO face on a jumbotron and put your cheating ass to the world. You become a meme. Lose your job. You know safe. This is just an average record. Live dangerously. Pass on this. 3/5
Enjoyed the whole project the hits definitely aged well for them.
tiene temazos, me gustó en general, habia varias canciones que no conocia pero ahora me las guarde
i mean it’s coldplay?? clocks scientist and politik were standouts. just easy listening without really thinking about much
I will admit to recoiling in horror a little upon being faced with the prospect of listening to a Coldplay album. I'll also admit that A Rush Of Blood To The Head served as a reminder that early Coldplay, before they descended into full-on stadium pop rock, can be pretty good. Bonus shout out to the hypnotically pleasing animated album artwork on Apple Music.
So I have adopted the GoodReads rating system (thank you Nic). I would say it's quite typical of Coldplay that some of the songs are very mehhh and some of them are very good (even great?) songs that I Really Like. I guess this averages out at a Like.
Decent album tho I'm not the biggest fan of them
I like Coldplay and most of the songs on this album but they kind of all sound the same
uma ou outra música que eu achei legal, mas o resto e Coldplay
Ok. Not a big fan of coldplay, never heard this album. Would vote 3.5 if I could
Finally, something from this century. Just a typical sad rock album, I'm just happy to know the artist. Solid 3
Enjoyed this but the I think it would need a few more listens for me to fully get it.
The grip this album had on department stores in the late 2000’s was insane
- like chord choices/progressions. Feel as though backing instrumentals are uninspired and could be utilized much better - Way too earnest for my personal liking, self-serious is not my preferred musical perspective - Favorite song: Daylight
Better than I expected. Actually I preferred it over Parachutes.
This is a fine album. It’s no surprise they got popular, but I’d be lying if I said I was a fan. More melancholy than I typically prefer with very little in the way of tempo change. The lyrics are decent, and the instruments and vocals are competent and well executed. Not my jam, though, which is why it’s getting a 3. Nothing super special, but nothing truly offensive.
The big risk of these albums with evergreen radio hits are that you're sick of 'em. You come to this website to listen to music out of your wheelhouse. But, I suppose it is inoffensive.
Early coldplay was quite alright, but in this one you can already hear them veering away from the sound that made them interesting. It is also one song too long. So one point below parachutes. The scientist will always be a good tearjerker for those studying instead of finding love. Or well, it was for me.
Opens with some of the blandest, most generic rock music you will ever be blursed to hear. As things progress, though, bubbles of genuine emotion rise to the surface through the goop, particularly on the singles.
I went into this with an open mind. I haven't heard much Coldplay outside of the hits (which I think are pretty good!). But I also heard a lot of people saying coldplay are "boring". And my god. They really are. There is so much rambling nothingness here. During "A Whisper" I had to play a song from a different album just to check my headphones were still working properly. Chris Martin's voice is actually pretty nice and doesn't bring the album down. The issue is just that it doesn't really go anywhere. It's some piano and some drums kind of plod along. The lyrics are...fine? [Pre-Chorus] Come on in I've gotta tell you what a state I'm in I've gotta tell you in my loudest tones That I started lookin' for a warnin' sign [Chorus] When the truth is I miss you Yeah, the truth is That I miss you so As I say – the hits are good! Clocks is a great song. The Scientist is a song I would be sad never to be able to listen to again. But the rest of the album? This all averages out to 3*s.
I've seen Coldplay twice and they put on a good show, but I'm not a massive fan. It's very middle of the road music for me. I owned this album when it came out and after a few spins, I rarely played it. Warning Sign is a great song and the best on the album for me. 3 stars middle of the road.
very nice
I thought this was better than Parachutes. A little more umph on some of the songs. An ok listen but still boring as hell overall.
Not Coldplay’s best album but the music is consistent and good. They have a knack of drawing you into their songs through lyrics and extended vocals. No problems with the album as a whole but nothing that made me want to hurry up and listen to it again either.
Painfully predictable pop music, placed perfectly on the precipice of pseudo poignant pretension.
Was he searching for God, or was he a heartbreaker? Question in the loop.
3,5 really, it’s a good one, not a masterpiece either.
mm probably 3
3,5
It's hard to be objective with such a public band like Coldplay. I enjoyed some of the songs, others just went by me. It was ok.
Paar Banger, paar so lala
3/5 1. Hälfte top, 2. Hälfte ok
I know, I know…Coldplay has become the brunt of the joke, hopelessly mainstream, and completely uncool, but I can’t deny I was taken in by this particular album when it was released. They had put out a pretty solid debut which I still prefer, “Yellow” notwithstanding, and there was some expectation with this album that they managed to cash in on, literally. Listening to it now I think it’s greatest sin is mediocrity. It’s not bad to listen to but it’s seldom exciting. Chris can usually find some melodic gems but he sometimes struggles with delivering them effectively. The band borrows a lot from better artists that I’m not sure they fully understand, but they also changed the sound of pop with a few dead simple songs. I accord it an appropriately middling grade.
Decent album. Not a Coldplay fan nor a hater, and I admit this album's not terrible. A few standout songs amid, well, mid.
Whatever other sins Coldplay has committed, Clocks is an all time banger. So fucking good! Unfortunately, people are not exaggerating when they call Coldplay boring and the rest of this album is pretty meh
Meh.
Honestly, I was always quite skeptical of Coldplay. I called it "rock" for people who don't like rock. And there's probably a bit of truth in there, but I did like some of the less knowner songs on this album. Quite surprised by them.
An alright album. Some good songs on there but overall a bit slow and dull for me tbh.
not bad, not amazing. Inoffensive chord based songs, a few catchy melodies, nothing wowed me. 2.5 stars if i could
Einzelne Songs sind überragend, aber nicht alles. "Parachutes" ist konstanter und mir daher lieber.
not bad for a second album.
Good
3/5 country rock vibe it’s ok
Coldplay has gone consistently downhill since their debut. And while their follow up obviously isn't on par with their great debut, it's not nearly as bad as I remember. I've heard this album before, and I recall not really being a fan. However, it's actually pretty good. There are a lot of songs here that I enjoyed, and have elements that harken back to some of the tracks I really loved on Parachutes. It's not great... but it's not bad either. It wasn't until later that they fully transitioned to that ethereal, dreamy sound where you can't tell what the hell is going on.
Just ok, not exactly the best from Coldplay but still has some classics songs of theirs
Mjoah, okay. Konnt man hören, aber war mir ne Ecke zu sehr gefühlsduselig.
ja ganz nett, haben gute Lieder, aber ist mir zu weinerlich und abgedroschen.
7.5/10 The songwriting is solid but the production can be a bit dull at times.
credit where credit's due, "The Scientist" is a great song. 3.5 or something. whatever !
Every Coldplay album I listen to is like what if Cage the Elephant was kinda boring
This was alright, but nothing spectacular. I finally understand why people call Coldplay sellouts, so at least there's that.
Maybe this was groundbreaking back in the early 2000’s, but idk it just seems so middle of the road to me. Likes: The Scientist, Clocks,
Not bad, a couple of songs could grow on me. I’m sure it’s perfect moping music for some ppl, but it probably would never be my top pick. (I think I liked Warning Sign and Amsterdam—didn’t relisten prob a couple others I didn’t mind)
5/10 Best songs: Clocks I've never been a fan of Coldplay, and this album does nothing to change my mind. Their music is so incredibly dull. With one or two exceptions (generally but not always their singles), it's background music at best. Well done background music, sure, but it's something you'd hear in the background of an episode of some TV show or a coffee shop. And that's fine - clearly this type of music has its fans - but I like music that's actually interesting. Oh, and proof of my point: once the album finished, Spotify played several other Coldplay songs before I realized the album was over. It's all literally variations on a theme. Background music.
As much as my mid-2000s disdain of Coldplay has dissipated, this is distinctly not a distinguished album. No disrespect.
The backing tracks are pretty good on most of these songs, I like the mixing and everything sounds very polished. I can only deal with Chris Martin's singing in small doses. I feel like Green Eyes has good crossover potential for a country song
I really did not like Coldplay when I was a kid when their first three albums came out - now I can say I don’t hate them but they are not my band - 2.9
It’s a solid album, but there’s too many times where I wish they would have a bit more creativity, and the production can feel pretty flat.
The hits are great but most songs are underwhelming
Good album
Decent 7
Cause your a sky full of (3) stars
I really dreaded listen to this one but it really wasnt that bad. It had a couple songs that I didn't mind at all and had a nice mellow overall sound. Not a huge fan of Coldplays vocalist or just there overall radio friendly millennial music vibe but this album I can't hate on too hard it was okay.
People give Coldplay a lot of flak, but if you were 14-15yo when this album came out and you wanted to have a nice, sad, melancholic summer, this was perfect. Coincidentally, I was 14-15 yo when this album came out.
This album didn't make much of an impression on me, though there are a couple of relatively memorable songs on it. I'm generally not a fan of the band, finding the music rather derivative.
Too sad
Really mellow songs...really enjoyed it
7/10
This is a decent album. 'The Scientist' is a song that's probably everlasting. It's an even better album when you're in the mood of Radiohead light, which I rarely am. I much prefer listening to Radiohead in the first place.
Quite depressive
I've never listened to a Coldplay album, only a couple of snippets of hits I'd immediately judge as sounding like the 20 yr old child of U2. I was a little surprised that A) the band is 4 guys and it's always been the same 4 guys. Thought it was just that Paltrow fellow. B) This record wasn't the worst thing I'd ever heard. Almost an easy listening Arctic Monkeys.
I’ve never been a huge fan of coldplay’s sound, but there’s no denying this album’s quality. I enjoyed this album for a while, but i will admit by the halfway point i was watching the clock, as the low energy started to get tiresome. Not bad. Just not really my favourite.
Coldplay has been a punchline for so long it grows more difficult to remember what it was like before that time. This wasn't so long after "Yellow" was a non-mainstream sensation, so they were still new enough that they hadn't gotten dull. "Clocks" was obviously massive, but there's plenty to like on here, even as it sags in the back quarter. "Amsterdam" is a strong closer though.
"Technically" good, but I would not choose to listen to this.
I’ve never really been a fan of Coldplay however this album really shocked me. It’s a well constructed alt rock record with really nice piano. Very enjoyable experience with many memorable tracks like “politik”, “daylight”, “in my place” and the title track.
Coldplay has almost become a meme of itself, but their early albums were pretty solid if overplayed.
Not as bad as I was expecting! Enjoyed probably 60% of this.
Mf sad boy music. Its fine? Idk something inside my bones just cant stand it
Turns out there's a reason I know the songs I know and didnt know the ones I didn't. I think Coldplay works best when it is familliar, especially when it can't be great.
Respect the voice and Art, but nothing more after the 3. Listen
I'm gonna keep it short here and edit later. Tracks 3 through 6 were all excellent and I enjoyed listening to them. I'd pick them up again later down the road even though they aren't traditionally my cup of tea. V nice melodies all throughout and the singer's falsetto is wonderful. Otherwise, basically what I thought it'd be. The band is nothing to write home about, and the arrangements on those other songs are similarly bland. If not for those 4 songs mentioned before, this would fall juuuuust above Joshua Tree and be a huge slog. But they got me through it, and the other songs weren't *bad*, just a little generic sounding. If I kinda knew Coldplay idk if I could have placed those as their sound with any accuracy. Those 4 songs mentioned before were good enough to earn the 3, but the rest of the album was milquetoast enough to deny itself the 4. I'd give a 3.5 if I could.
In My Place and Clocks are really good, but most here are the kind of milquetoast Coldplay that I'm not the biggest fan of.
I think the songwriting is pretty good, but the execution is just okay— a better album could’ve been made with these songs.
Takie pierdololo. 3
hm
If U2 & Radiohead had a boring baby that made boring music. That music only vaguely sounds like U2 & Radiohead. The hits: The Scientist & Clocks sound like they are from another planet. Green Eyes is about Gwyneth Paltrow, ain't It? I don't hate this music but I don't love it either. It's just there. Indifference is an odd thing. 3
I like the hit songs (The Scientist, Clocks). A handful of other songs were pretty decent. But for the most part, I just don't like Coldplay enough to sustain an entire album.
boring but it’s Coldplay so that’s the usual
Coldplay innit.
I have not heard of this album before, but I have heard of some of the songs on this album. The album sounds very raw and emotional, with a lot of thought put into it. Unfortunately it is just not my cup of tea.
A couple of solid tracks
The album is titled "A Rush Of Blood To The Head", but the head of the figure on the album cover is cut in half, which means it doesn't have a brain that its blood can rush to. The implications are quite funny if you think about it. Jokes aside, this is not bad. The problem is that when I listen to this, I always think to myself "I would rather be listening to something else." I could live without it. The inclusion of albums like this makes me wonder, isn't this list about "albums you should hear at least once before you die"?
This album is... fine. It's exactly what you'd expect from a Coldplay album. I remember moderately liking this album when it first came out, and I'd forgotten I cut a snippet of "Clocks" to be my cell phone alarm clock sound (because it does really sound like a clock chiming!). However, many years later, it's just not that interesting to me. But at least it isn't the album with the inescapable "Yellow" on it. - Heard before? Yes, but I didn't really remember it. - Will I listen again? Nope. - Does it inspire me to listen to more of this artist? No - because I feel like once you've heard one Coldplay album, you've heard them all.
Yeah a really good album if we're being honest with ourselves. I can't give it 4 stars through personal preference but would love to give it 3.5..
It's fine. Inoffensive. Coldplay's just never done anything for me.
A couple of things on this: Coldplay are fine. They've got some good songs and a few of them are on this album. An album which I heard when it came out. Fine then, fine now and much better than some of their later work. If they'd made more albums like this they wouldn't be as big and wouldn't be as despised. However, if you try and listen to this in a busy pub while reading book you'll realise it doesn't work in a certain crowd. The world moves around it. Which is pretty much what you can say about the band now.
Lpm me gustó
It's fine. Coldplay is the most middle of the road music possible. If you had the best AI in the world make music to satisfy the masses and create no controversy at all, you get this album.
A few songs that I like a lot but it’s still Coldplay so I can only rate it so high
Kind of funny getting this one the day after I referred to Doves as a way better/more interesting version of Coldplay. I think this album is underrated, and if it weren't for songs like "Clocks" and the band following that thread more, they would be regarded very differently.
09
Some good tunes, however the rest kind of just melds in and doesn't stand out. Overrated in my opinon.
2.7/5 A solid album although the latter part of the album drags it down abit. I think I've heard this before and didn't mind it.
Bland
I expected more from this album. No songs other caught my attention other than the generic 'clocks' ot 'the scientist'.
The lyrics are great but I don’t love Chris martins vocals
Standouts In My Place God Put a Smile on Your Face The Scientist Clocks A Whisper
cuando coldplay hacia buena música.
Ihan ok
"Ok" fine to have on in the background while shouting at my kids but never reached threshold of me paying attention
I don't hate Coldplay but I live close enough to the Etihad stadium to get unwanted tickets every time they play in Manchester. 1. Politik - incredibly boring, borderline triggering drumline 2. In my place - overplayed but I'd sing along if it came on the radio 3. God put a - Attempt at being Radiohead? 4. The Scientist - I like this despite myself. Too long 5. Clocks - Probably my favourite one on the album 6. Daylight - Feels v 60s Summer of Love inspired 7. Green Eyes - Not sure I've heard this before - quite like it 8. Warning Sign - Skipped it - ran out of patience 9. A Whisper - Tedious 10. A rush of blood to the head - Meh 11. Amsterdam - Forgot about this one
not bad lol
6.5/10 - I enjoyed this album more than I expected. There are a few really great songs, a few misses, and a few overplayed songs. Overall a much better album than their later stuff.
There are some great songs on here but some fall a bit flat or overstay their welcome. It's much better than what Coldplay is putting out now. Strong 6/10
Not a huge fan of the band but have to admit this album has got a few great tracks from them. Can't be an accident so have to give this one a 3 at least.
It's fine. I absolutely detest 'Clocks' though. Something about that song has always made me feel uneasy.
Enjoyed more than I thought I would. Quite good and pleasant, but doesn't seem groundbreaking to me.
Sure, there are 4 bangers in a row but the rest of this one BORED me... 3/5
Not too crazy about this one
I actually enjoyed it more than I thought I would, not all my taste by a long way and he’s got a mopey voice but it’s well written and musically it’s good.
There’s two children playing outside in the snow, one of them has forgotten their coat. It’s Cold Play. 4 bangers. Earlier the better for Coldplay
I mean….its coldplay, so I want to listen to it on a daily basis? no, but I could definitely listen to it from time to time I guess
Highlights: Politik, God Put A Smile Upon Your Face. In a nutshell: "give me real. Don't give me fake" I think we can all agree that Coldplay is the millennial edition of 80’s and early 90’s U2. They were critically lauded, fans loved them, people loved to hate them AND they were a promoter’s dream. Anyone who compares Radiohead to Coldplay is not wrong but that's giving the band way too much credit. The former is more experimental than the latter, and the experimentation started quite early in Radiohead's career. Listening again, over 20 years on, it's quite front loaded. If the listener is more familiar with Coldplay's radio hits, I'd recommend the Live 2003 album instead. Avoid the video version, there are too many cutaways and a lot of flashing lights. Overall: 5/10
Wow am I surprised. I have always been a Coldplay hater like I genuinely couldn’t stand their music and would refuse to listen to it, so today I very begrudgingly listened to this and wow it was a lot better than I thought it would be. The piano in the background was really nice and gave the album a calming, somber feeling and the infrequent drumming and guitar really added to the atmosphere. Now I have 2 main problems with this album one of them is even though the instrumentals were good, the songs all kinda blended into one like I couldn’t really tell that any of the songs sounded particularly different from one another. And I understand that songs transition into one another but it’s was like one massive transition through the whole album. My other gripe is that no matter how hard I try I just can’t really enjoy the sound of the vocals. They weren’t terrible and definitely better than a lot of albums and artists but I just don’t like them that much. Overall a solid album and it had a couple really good songs on it like, The Scientist and politik. Im giving it 3 stars A medium 5 out of 10
Yes it's quite generic but that doesn't make it bad. Some of the songs are a little whiney but most are pretty decent, I liked 'green eyes' and 'whisper' more than the others. Wasn't taking the effort to differentiate the songs at the end, they were alright, mostly acted as background music - neither overly good nor bad. 61/100 Score edited 28/01/26
This is good! I dismiss Coldplay for being U2-lite, but that’s unfair. Chris Martin’s plaintive voice gives the music a sweet melancholy, and the band has some great hooks that build a strong mood. Of all their albums this is one I’d listen to again.
Decent album, couple great songs
didn’t listen in full, but pretty good. coldplay now feels like a breath of community and they are timeless
Yeah it’s ok, long bit sappy.
Overall rating by me: 5/10 Songs added to the playlist: ,,The Scientist" Notes: Very slow-paced and emotional. Good for background music or something to play when you're feeling blue.
Mooi, leuk om eens hun songwriting te analyseren
Solid album. Has many of their classic songs. Enjoyed the drumming and layering on the instruments. Vocals are an obvious stand out as well. 3.7/5.0
not my fav but a few good ones
Classic Coldplay sound
Great but ultimately forgettable. Right after listening to it, Radiohead started playing afterwards and I just completely focused on that and forgot about Coldplay.
I feel like the first part of the record has the best songs, but the second part feels very slow yet the songs are okay and go well with the themes of the album.
This was fine. I actually like a couple of the songs but the vocals don’t really grab me. Feels like a paint by numbers done with skill.
Fine
Coldplay at their peak melodramatic and utterly inane, boring, selves
I really hoped it would be better, it was just okay.
really chill but i would play this as background music. all the songs sound the same to me
Besides the already popular songs, there were only 1-2 songs that I liked. All the songs seemed a little long, which in my opinion is not a good thing. Haha
Pretty good pop, soft rock band. Very signature style that they’re known for with the ethereal sounds in the background and poetic lyrics
So-called "free thinkers" when listening to Coldplay - "this is bad" Me, an enlightened guru of taste - "this isn't bad actually" Very easy to hate on Coldplay, so I challenged myself to listen with impartial ears. Kinda liked it. The molasses-slow pace works in the albums favour, so that songs like "God put a..." have a touch of pep in their step.
Bland and corny but I had more fun than I thought I would :)
Before Coldplay became too much - there are definitely a couple of great songs on here
Better than expected, but i still think Chris Martin sounds like he is bored of their own songs
3.5 Sadly overplayed for years.
Not much to it except the 2 hit songs
* fave song - warning sign * pretty solid album, coldplay is always a classic. i enjoyed the album, but i wasn’t really wowed by until i got to the last four songs. i love warning sign so much!!
Not my favourite for Coldplay
I like Coldplay but would not vote for the Nazis
First time listening to the whole album. Forgot how good The Scientist was.
An adequate album with some exquisite singles, such as The Scientist. 3.5/5
really quite aimless pop rock. probs a 2.5 but chris martin is nice so it can have a 3
my favs: the scientist, clocks, green eyes
Better than I anticipated for my first first into CP land (probably what they call it), but still not for me
Wenn man weniger quängeln und dafür den Verzerrungsschalter finden würde, wäre es mehr mein Ding. Eine der schlechtesten Metalplatten des letzen Jahrzehnts
There were a few songs I liked about this but it wasn’t what I expected.
So I liked this better than Parachutes, but it felt really bland.
Coworker musikk jeg hørte på albumet og følte ingenting, Det er noen godet sanger på albumet men det meste er ikke intersant. 3/5
Beautiful and boring.
Not really for me, but I can recognize why some people love this stuff. I think I'd normally give this 2 stars, but it's so inoffensive it feels rude to put it that low, so I'm giving it an extra star.
This is White People Music. Truly, some of the most generic shit I've ever heard without being bad. Like, it's clearly well made, and I'm enjoying hearing it, but there is absolutely no way I'm retaining anything about this album five minutes after finishing it.
This is an album that leaves me scratching my head over Coldplay’s massive appeal. Chris Martin’s lyrics are thoughtful and well-crafted, but the music feels safe to the point of blandness, and the vocals never rise above serviceable. It’s polished, yes, but ultimately background music—pleasant enough without demanding attention. Clocks is the one track that stands out, offering a glimpse of the energy and urgency the rest of the record lacks. For me, it’s more wallpaper than wonder.
1112 10:59 2.5
No warmth for U2 but Coldplay is cool, i guess
Gets kind of boring after a while.
I didn't completely finish this album but it was the first one I've received that I've actually heard songs from!
I like a lot of the songs on this album as separate songs but in my personal opinion, it can drag a little bit as a cohesive album.
Used to listen to this a lot in my youth. There are a couple of songs which have elements that I still like but for the most part it's a nostalgic listen. Today I find it a bit of a dirge. It's a bit more radio friendly than their first album and all the more boring for it.
Very strong first half, really weak second half. I still enjoyed it, I think I had this cd back in the day.
it wasn’t great but it was leaps and bounds better than Parachutes. don’t get these guys’ massive popularity. high 3
It seems like they specifically designed these songs to be played in a suburban mall. That isn't necessarily a bad thing. I prefer this type of generic pop music over the generic rock music from the 70s and 80s that somehow made it onto this list. 3/5
Boring.
It's alright. Better than everything else they've done since
Liked this, back when Coldplaynwas more indie instead of whatever they are now
Love green eyes. The rest is ok but doesn’t excite me
Some of these songs feel very overplayed now, but it was fun to revisit this album. I haven’t listened to the whole album in a long time and there are some great songs on here.
I know Coldplay gets a lot of hate, but they nail exactly the vibe they're going for. I think this album does a good job of showcasing their strengths.
Back in 2002 I thought Coldplay was a pretty boring band. I changed my mind over the years but listening back to this I can see why I thought that. I'm less of a snob when it comes to music as I was back then, and much more open to "soft rock", but yeah still pretty boring.
Maybe better in its time but I think they just define generic pop now
I don't think this is as bad as people say it is. If this wasn't popular this would be in every sadboy top albums of all time
Quite relaxing. It's barely even rock, but it's not bad.
All work and Coldplay makes Jack a dull boy
OK pop record. At least much better than what they've come up with for the past 10 years.
I sort of enjoyed the album. It's lacking in the stadium rock part, which I was also expecting to be huge. While it's pretty music, it shouldn't be pretty all the time. There were more tracks that stood out of the whole than I was expecting. So I guess I did like it to some degree? I dunno. I don't think I'm listening to it again, so I'll just give it 3.5/5 and stop thinking about it.
Talented yes, enjoyable, sure. But this band really does nothing for me.
Hmmm...
Slow at times, but overall a solid record. A light 3/5
perfectly fine. i don’t really understand why anyone would choose to listen to it when there’s literally so much other stuff out there. it’s like choosing to watch one of those 8-hour yule log videos instead of watching a real movie…it’s not inherently bad or even harmful but i simply don’t understand why you would want to spend your time that way. especially when you could just listen to radiohead.
Well that was nice. It was fine and pleasant and I enjoyed having it on but I don't think it's anything super special. Reminds me of Keane and at times Mazzy Star and Oasis...and of course Radiohead. I'm not mad at it though. Fav tracks: In My Place
A little generic but I like the hits. The instrumentation is good enough.
Classic Coldplay
Nothing really wrong with it, but it’s very unexciting. Vocals annoy.
It's kinda cool in retrospect that a song like "Clocks," with its syncopated rhythm and miner-key Muse worship, was such a huge pop hit. Maybe it's their homogenized fanbase; maybe their cringey pop pivot of the last decade. But it's easy to forget we got some good music from these guys in the early days.
I enjoy Coldplay more as a singles band than an album band.
I like it! last track is the best one
11-4-25
Coldplay's second album and maybe its most ambitious? Several good songs that don't feel like they were trying to be hits, including "God Put a Smile On Your Face" and "The Scientist." Runs out of steam after the first five songs, however.
21/1001 First listen. Never intentionally played Coldplay before. I would listen to this again. Sounds like U2 at times.
Not much of a Chris Martins fan
Vraiment pas mon album préféré de Coldplay
Var litt spent på denne, siden jeg er litt lei av de mest kjente sangene. Sett bort ifra de var det et par gode sanger, men også et par kjedelige
This hasn't aged too badly and I'm a fan of their first Nigel Godrich album Parachutes, but this just borders on the middling overall despite Martin still keeping some eloquence to his lyrics (which will quickly descend into the pithy and banal as their career went on). There are some proper tunes here which tug on the heart strings. 3.5 stars on Rym but here a solid 3
Solid Coldplay album
For as much (arguably deserved) flak that Coldplay gets for their recent material, people need to listen to their older albums before completely writing them off. There are some great songs on here; beautifully arranged and performed, and so much more emotionally compelling than the output from their contemporaries (i.e. The Fray, Snow Patrol). 3.5/5
The scientist and clocks are ok. The rest is very middle of the road. 3* just.
A few pretty solid tracks, the rest of the album was nice too but didn’t stand out as much to me.
This has all that is good about coldplay (politik), and the warning signs of what later went wrong (amsterdam). Here they have a kind of radiohead sound full of emotion, it is edgier than their earlier efforts, and some of the songs aged well. It is simple music but at times works. Nostalgia factor also kicks hard
Not bad - hits decent, rest ok
not my genre, too slow and bland imo. Singing is great, I can see why people like it.
Final thoughts: PG rated Radiohead. +1 for The Scientist ******************************************************************************* --Politik...not enough movement to be 5+ minutes long --In My Place...Christopher Cross for millennials --God Put a Smile upon Your Face...menacing. it's fine --The Scientist...simple. sad. wonderful. --Clocks...the piano is nice --Daylight...a decent Radiohead impression --Green Eyes...a simple folk rocker. it's fine but skippable --Warning Sign...I think I'd be more lenient on some of these tracks if they were a minute shorter --A Whisper...I like when they get a little dark. Not a great song but the production is cool --Title track...too long. it's not like you're adding Jim Steinman-esque movements to your songs, guys. pinch it off --Amsterdam...WHY IS THIS 5 MINUTES LONG?
Coldplay's last good album with at least some edge and diversity and a few really great tracks. It is also too long and gets tedious pretty soon. All in all a seriously overrated band.
I do find it odd that generic pop that takes a lacking stance on anything is considered an album I must hear before I die. That being said, it's not terrible, just generic pop music for risk-adverse people. And this is coming from someone who was forced to listen to country music growing up. Top Tracks: Green Eyes (I'm biased here), The Scientist, Clocks
Clocks The scientist
p884. 2002. 3 stars. Inoffensive millennium Brit stadium rock. They know how to knock out a catchy tune, I'll give them that. On the other hand, it's all a bit bland and soulless.
Coldplay has an ability to make grand, lofty sounding songs that really grab your attention and pull you in. Their piano/strings compositions are really nice. They may have lost the plot in more recent years, but it's kinda nice going back and listening to some of their older stuff. A Rush of Blood to the Head has a laid back feeling. It's not going to pump you up but it's good for a nice quiet listen. Lyrically, sure, it's a little bland. I guess it's supposed to be introspective. The music is interesting enough to listen to a couple times and enjoy, but I don't know how much repeatability this album has. Standouts for me were "In My Place" "Clocks" "A Whisper" All in all, pretty solid. Deserving of at least a 3 in my book. A little more variance on the tracks would have been nice.
3. I’m coming into this with a bad view of Coldplay. They’ve made some really personally annoying songs (“Paradise”, “Something Just Like This”, “Yellow”) so I don’t expect this to be different. I think this will be like the first time I intentionally listen to Coldplay. Okay, listened to it. Honestly, not as bad as I thought it would be. “Clocks” and “The Scientist”, honestly, were probably the most annoying songs out of the bunch, which is maybe like a 4 on that front. A little bland, but not horrible. Between the generic-ish songs might lie some inspiration, if people would look a bit closer. not that bad, wish I could enjoy it a bit more, but never was a fan of this genre personally
Good musicians and songwriters....God awful whiney singing
This felt like a step up compared to the first one which was awfully dull. Instrumentation is more interesting and dynamic in places, the singles (including the biggest ballad - The Scientist) work a lot more for me than those on the debut as well. I still can't shake my dislike of Chris Martin's vocals but I appreciate they work a bit better here, would prefer more charisma (Robert Smith, Siouxie Soux, someone who has more angst rather than sorrow) would be great on a track like A Whisper. It's a decent 3 I think!
Merely good, 7/10
Really loved it back then. Everything after this album is not as good.
Vielä näitä Coldplay hyviä levyjä. 3/5.
Kind of bland, The Scientist is a classic though
meh, nije loše al nije ni moj cup of tea, trojkica+
Pretty depressing type of album, just has a sad vibe to it all around. Also, it's cold play, yeah that voice can be a bit strenuous on the ears over some time, imo.
too bad they’re overplayed
Good album.
Nowt wrong with that. Would be a 6.5 -7 out of 10.
Chris Martin = No This album = yes
I can't honestly say I've ever listened to a Coldplay album. I've only ever encountered them on the radio, 15-20 years ago, when they felt more solidly within the zeigeist. Now their memetic reputation precedes the music, in a way. I've never been crazy about Chris Martin's voice, but sonically I think the band is interesting enough. This is atmospheric in a pretty delicious way. To me it's "mall music," which I don't mean as a marketing or moral indicator, just that this is what the mall sounded like during my formative mall-going years. It's a good thing. Not sure I'd spin it again, but I wouldn't smash "skip" if it comes up. Still not a fan of The Scientist.
This record won 3 Grammys and had multiple hit singles. I can see how that happened. It’s not really my thing but radio-friendly light rock with a bit of piano ballad mixed in can’t hurt your commercial appeal
classic coldplay songs on here
The first couple of albums weren't that bad were they? It was after this one i completely lost interest. The Scientist in particular is a great song.
Just meh. Not bad enough to be 2 stars, but just barely. I guess it would be ok on low in the background. Nothing moves me in it.
a solid 3
I kind of like Coldplay, but this isn't exactly their best album. Sure, there are a few good songs on it, “Clocks” for example, but they've had better material.
3 out of 5. First album I've ever listened to from Coldplay. It's middle of the road for me.
meh
Overhyped
It reminds me of the London 2012 Olympic Games and I will not elaborate
Not too horrible. Not all that exciting.
Kind of boring, but not unpleasant.
Such a mid band. I'm not the biggest fan.
Very average album with some good singles
It's aight
I'm not a fan of Coldplay, but I can't deny that the first half of this album is good. Back when they wrote this record, they were pretty good at writing radio-friendly pop-rock hits. The first half is packed with back to back catchy songs, Martin's voice works very well to carry the hits, and the instrumentals are very good too, with simple but interesting and memorable melodies. The second half drags on a bit and gets pretty boring, I think it could've used some cutting to make it tighter. The run from "In My Place" to "Clocks" is very good and represents the some of the best material from Coldplay. Aside from that, I disliked "Politik" as an opener. Everything else was pretty average.
I wasn't familiar with your game. Pretty good
Coldplay mostly just leaves me like "blah!" I guess I understand their appeal, but most of their songs seem like "What's the point, really?"
This album holds some nostalgia for me from the time this came out, specifically Clocks, so I have a bit of attachment to it. As a whole, I'd call this album just 'fine.' It's nothing that's gonna blow your mind, but it's definitely not an objectionable listen.
Actually a pretty good album with some really good songs. On the other hand, it doesn't really make me too excited.
Stabilt, men inte så mycket som stack ut heller
I liked the songs individually but they all felt quite similar which meant listening to the album was a bit of a chore. Any of these songs would work really well on a moody playlist, but one after the other it just made me like them all less and want the album to end. For the same reason I struggled to pick a favourite and least favourite as they all felt very similar. Fav song: The Scientist - probably because it was most familiar to me Least fav: Amsterdam - but maybe just because it was the last one so I was always less engaged by then
Nothing personal against Coldplay but there was a time when Lola and I both liked (different) slightly shitty boys who were overly obsessed with Coldplay. I, at least, never had to sit through a boy playing Coldplay songs on my guitar directly at me, but nevertheless Coldplay leaves me with a slightly icky feeling. Musically I actually really enjoyed the album, just wish I didn't know it was Coldplay. Favourite song: A Rush Of Blood To The Head Least: A Whisper
Canciones favs: in my place, the scientist, clocks, daylight, whisper
I miss earlier Coldplay, when they were riffing off of 90s Radiohead instead of making... whatever they call their music now. Not outstanding, but it's a decent record with some well crafted tunes, if a little bland. Fave song on this listen: In My Place
Have to admit I have thrown shit talk Coldplays way in the past and maybe they don’t fully deserve it. There are some absolute belters on this album that I would sing along too but unfortunately there is also a few mediocre and a bit boring tracks too. I will continue to say I am not a fan but when they play Glastonbury next, and they will, I shall be singing along and saying to my wife, I don’t know why they get so much shit, they are quite good. Haha
Ok this is still vanilla milk, but maybe it’s 2%, not skim like their other albums. Of course there are a few memorable and solid tracks, but still kinda meh. I think I just hate his voice. It sounds like the color of chalk.
Très agréable en fond pour une journée douce.
Coldplay were half decent back in the early days, if a bit dull. The scientist is great and half of the rest are really solid but it sticks to a 4/10 level of excitement throughout. Alright for an album but I can imagine a gig is tough going. Its solid, I'm sure I'll listen to most of this again against my will so no need to seek it out.
I was worried this might happen..... That was considerably better than I was expecting. In my opinion, "the scientist" is by far and away the best track they've written. Clocks is pretty good too....I could leave the rest. It all just suffers from being pretty bland. There is emotion though Not going to rush away to listen to their back catalogue, but not bad! Way better than their debut album we had 3
Coldplay are a band that receive a lot of stick, and I'd entirely agree that their later material is amongst the most beige, insipid, soul-destroying stuff out there. Music for people who don't like music and "Karens" essentially. However, and I'm acutely aware that this might get me crucified, I actually quite like this album (and only this album), particularly the first half of it. Some of the textures, arrangements and harmonies on A Rush of Blood are wonderful, and whilst it is perhaps a bit cynical in some ways and a direct consequence of what Radiohead were doing, it holds up pretty well in 2025 unlike much of the other "post britpop" stuff which was loitering around at the time. There is an emotional depth to A Rush of Blood which still endures today, and Chris Martin's vocal performance / lyricism here doesn't stray too far into over-earnestness for me, although I get how it might for others. "Clocks" was one of the first songs I learned how to play on the keyboard at school, and I'm not afraid to admit that it's a cracking tune. I could do without a handful of tracks on this - some of the second half is a bit dull, but not enough to taint the rest of the experience too much for me.
I've heard of Coldplay. Who hasn't? Often the butt of jokes. I must admit that I had never intentionally listened to Coldplay. So I welcomed this as a chance to hear what it was about. I mean, to be the butt of so much hate, you have to have had success, which also means people like you, even if they do not admit it. Did not like the opening track at all, and thought this was going to be a slog. After that, it was okay, until Clocks, which, I have heard, and I really like that song. (Do I need to go into witness protection now that I admitted it) :-) Then, the album declined. Making it tough to rate. A few okay songs, a couple not so good, a couple bad, and one I really like. In decimal form 2.55, so I will round it up to a fairly generous 3.
clocks is legendary but the rest is just fine to me
A lot of Coldplay songs I wasn’t aware of. Has clocks and the scientist though so I can’t hate too much.
Estas tú qué es un 4, anda que habría que ser Gili para darle un 4
its aight
I remembered this record as 'pretty good', and that still stands. My issue is the complete draining of energy whenever they play a soppy song. When they go all out, I appreciate the overall vibes.
