Reviews (page 8 of 13)
Overall not as enjoyable as Kid A (like the White Album, a great single album exists for these two, albeit likely widly different for everyone..) My highlights were Dollar n Cents where they manage to out Can Can but then inexplicably stop short of 5mins instead of jammimg for another 10-15; and the last jazz track - when the trumpet kicks in - man, that cat can really blow!!
Meh, I’m not sure of this. It very much sounds like a band playing with ideas, but not always developing the concept into a fully formed song. A few highs include pyramid song, hunting bears, and the glasshouse track at the end was really interesting. It just does not offer enough consistency to make me want to come back to it.
good :) might be biased i already like radiohead so gave it a fairer shot than maybe some other albums; life in a glass house, you and whos army?, i might be wrong are stand outs
Feb 4, 2026 - This is a whole movie soundtrack honestly.
A tough listen. I know I like things that are interesting. And this was. But the voice is much better in some of the lovely warm songs they do rather than this alienating yowling.
I appreciate this album more than I like it. It's an artistic achievement in the sense that it's creative without any restrictions, but it's mostly just moody moans over ambient guitars and sampled drums
Feels like the vocals arent really living up to the background in this, still enjoyable enough easy listening but got a bit samey over the course of the album. Love the brass in glasshouse tho i’d written a harsher review before they chirped up.
It started off slow, but really picked up in the middle and towards the end. It’s Radiohead, so it’s going to be some weird atmospheric stuff for at least part of it, but it’s still really good, and not at all unexpected. I’m a fan and I liked it.
Amnesiac feels like drifting through a fog at night. Uncomfortable, beautiful, and hypnotic.
the album doesn't have a unifying theme, but there are some good individual songs in there.
3.5
This one took me a long time to decide on, and I'm still not sure. Radiohead is such a curious band. Instrumentals are interesting, albeit pretty repetitive at times, providing a blanket of sound. The vocals, sultry and quiet, are like running a hand softly over that blanket of sound. Providing a cool but comfortable listening experience. Not sure I'd reach for it, but I did enjoy it and listened multiple times.
surprise inclusion! I don't think this is their best work, particularly Yorke's, but I do think there is some beautiful jazz instrumentation going on here. Hard to argue this over ok computer and Kid A. Alas, I think this would be a "great" album if it weren't in the context of their other body of work. 3.5
The shorter songs from Kid A make for an interesting collection on Amnesiac, some of which are good but it is a mixed bag.
Experimental but enjoyable
tolles album, schöne songs - aber wenig packend.
I think the reason I stayed engaged with this album for the most part is the variation in instruments and musical style from song-to-song. The Revolving Door song is heavy and mechanical with drums and the next song is relaxed and fluid with piano. As someone who is usually most attentive to lyrics and meaning, the way the instruments were used is what I enjoyed most about this album and what kept me interested. I feel the artist is meditating on pain and angst which I can enjoy to some extent but by the end of the album felt a bit draining as a listener. I think the album could have been much shorter.
Drowsy samesy kind of album
Packt Like Sardines In a Crushd Tin Box - 3/5 Pyramid Song - 4/5 Pulk/Pull Revolving Doors - 2.5/5 You And Whose Army? - 4.5/5 I Might Be Wrong - 4/5 Knives Out - 4/5 Morning Bell/Amnesiac - 4/5 Dollars and Cents - 3/5 Hunting Bears - 2/5 Like Spinning Plates - 3/5 Life In a Glasshouse - 4.5/5
The bends is still undefeated
I think I'm comfortable with the fact that OK Computer is the only Radiohead album I really like. This album is kinda cool, I just don't know what to do with it. I wouldn't listen to this while on a road trip. I wouldn't listen to this while making dinner. I don't want to listen to this while I'm doing work or cleaning up the house. You and Whose Army? is pretty cool. So is I Might Be Wrong. Life in a Glasshouse, cool jazzy vibe. Too much shit in between it all, though. Glad I listened to it, respect the talent...probably won't return to it.
While there are some great tracks on this record, I find it a little experimental in patches for sit down listening.
I think that I’m too dumb for Radiohead. I liked some of the songs, the instrumentation was great but I don’t really GET it..
Amnesiac is a continuation of Radiohead's Kid A, an experimental Electronic album that took a while to grow on me, but oh boy has it. Amnesiac took a shorter time to grow on me than Kid A did, but it didn't grow nearly as much. There are some moments of absolute brilliance as is to be expected from nearly every Radiohead album; Pyramid Song being the obvious standout that's comparable to the highs of Kid A. The anxious jazz-influenced sound of this record does work well, they manage to keep the production interesting for about 70% of the album. Amnesiac's main fault lies in its lack of focus, especially compared to Kid A. The album lacks cohesion, mostly feeling like a collection of songs thrown together without much thought (which I guess in some sense it is). Much like the Krautrock that inspired the album, some songs just fiddle around a little too much without really doing anything noteworthy. In general the album is just a lot more unpolished than the precedent set by Kid A. While I know it's not the fairest to base the quality of an album off another, with how closely these two albums are related it's hard not to. There's definitely still merit to Amnesiac, it has some incredible moments that make it well worth it to brave out the slower bits. It's definitely not the first album I think to put on for Radiohead, probably not even top 5, but that says more about how consistently amazing the band is.
“i know you can feel overwhelmed and underwhelmed, but can you ever just feel whelmed?” -bianca stratford
I enjoyed a few songs
I'm enjoying this. But it's far from perfect. There are moments of brilliance interspersed with moments of sheer meh.
Okay
Really got into this as background music while I'm working
This album was very experimental, and there were some ways where I felt that it really worked for the most part. It really just wasn’t my cup of tea overall didn’t have the most enjoyable time listening to this album, but I can really see why people like it it’s just not something that I would find myself going back to for the most part. There are definitely a few songs in this album that I like though.
Appropriately named. Listened, liked, and can't remember a bit of what I heard.
Couldn’t get into this album, not one of their best
eh
A really good sperimentali album. We can hear the real sound of the band and the sperimentale things they do. Really liked dollars and cents good rythm
A very cool and interesting listening experience, Radiohead do very good job of creating this atmospheric music. I feel like this album would make a killer soundtrack for a sci-fi type of film. One or two of the instrumental tracks I wasn’t really a fan of too much and I feel like they still could benefit from some vocals. The overall mood created is quite sombre, but it’s very well done, again Radiohead really excel in this field, the production quality of the sound is insane, super crisp and well built. Most of the songs to me feel like an outro song to the end of a movie or a TV series, which is great as music pieces/scores but unfortunately, I can’t really see myself listening to many of the songs again unless I’m in a very specific mood. Standout songs ‘pyramid song’ and ‘knives out’ I would rate on the higher end of 3 stars 100% but just not quite a 4 for me because I am unlikely to re-listen.
2.5
2.5
The album is abstract. The songs accentuate rhythm and repetition. It's pop. It's electronic with guitar used sparingly. Vocals are very light and ethereal. It's good, but, I didn't love it.
Very lackluster, yet again why is this a special album?
I love Radiohead, as anyone does, but i’m surprising myself in that this album is not familiar to me at all. Enjoying it so far. Still somber but great production as always. A little bit strange but I like it a little goofy
Have a unique sound which I like. I don't know any of these songs but I will familiarise myself more with this band as they interest me. Listened to painting kids cupboards.
3.5/5 Interesting and creative. I definitely enjoyed it more than expected but the dreary whininess of the vocals prevent me from giving a full 4/5
Not bad background music
admittedly really good music but a little too depressing for my taste... I've heard You and Whose Army before in my American Protest Music class and really like that song, and I also liked Dollars and Cents and the Pyramid song but the rest I found very dreary and melancholic. I can see why people like Radiohead and would like to try to listen to some of their other albums.
Not their best stuff. Couple of classics like Knives out and Pyramid Song. As other people have said before, this feels more like a collection of tracks than a cohesive whole. I prefer the single B-sides over most of these songs.
prefiro o radiohead comercial 😅😅 bem chatinho os instrumentais “experimentais” parecendo um ventilador. não prestei muita atenção em todas as letras, as que prestei eram só ok
Ok
I wasn’t a radiohead fan and I know very few songs from them. this was a new experience for me and I realized I would’ve been a huge fan in highschool. Yet this sound is not to my liking anymore and it makes me feel gloomy. some songs would be nice to add to my playlist, yet the whole album experience is a little too heavy to digest at once. 3.5/5
Beautiful dreamy music
It is a little too conceptual of an album for me. It's Radiohead, so I believe there is a genius background with methodical and deep elaboration of these songs, but maybe wasn't the right fit of the mood for today. Still, there are some good songs I'll add to the playlist I use when I want to cry and feel horrible. "Knives Out" stuck out to me from the rest of the album. There are great instrumentals. They bring these nostalgic, moody, and sad emotions, but aren't always my type of music. "Life In a Glasshouse" is a good finishing track for the album.
Meh.
Some good tracks (Pyramid Song, Knives Out), but overall a bit slow and samey. Probably a 3.75 all the same.
Not my stile
nice enough
ehhhhhh
Leider anders als erwartet. Ziemlich psychodelic angehaucht für meinen Geschmack dadurch echt schwer anzuhören.
Not my favorite of theirs but live Radiohead!
Feels like all the cut content from Kid A was just dumped here. Regardless, it had a few standouts: You and Whose Army, Knives Out, Morning Bell and Life in a Glasshouse. A solid album, not Radioheads best but I like the ambition and experimental sounds of it.
Not sure why this is on the list. Is my 5th RH album in 30 loadings and this one is just, there. Maybe it's just fatigue at this point but I was never grabbed.
I always thought this was one of Radiohead's weaker albums. Too experimental, not listenable enough. I've come 'round to it upon relistens, but not by a lot frankly. High points with "Pyramid Song" and this album's version of "Morning Bell", but a long drag in between those. That said, I appreciate this is an early attempt at the sound the would continue to cultivate through "In Rainbows" and "A Moon Shaped Pool", or even Yorke's solo "The Eraser". Would easily listen to this over "Pablo Honey" though, haha.
I was a Radiohead fan in my teens. I still appreciate them, but they don't hit for me like they used to. Furthermore, Amnesiac is not one of their stronger albums. They'd just come off one of the band's creative peaks in Kid A, and frankly, it seems like they didn't really know where to go from there. It's telling that the most I found myself enjoying the album was during Morning Bell, and my only listening note was, "What the fuck is Pulk/Pure revolving doors? Self-indulgent rubbish." I don't really know why this is occupying a spot on this list. Strong 2 / Light 3.
not my favorite radiohead album, but it does have a couple of really good tracks (Pyramid Song, Knives Out)
I think this is one I will come back to - I listened to it twice and liked it more on the second listen. There's celarly a lot to "get" about this album that I am still getting. But the highlights (Pyramid Song and Life in a Glasshouse) I really enjoyed.
Sort of passed me by this one. Not a Radiohead I’m aware of, and I am half a fan. Nothing stood out during as well. Simpsons: Yes
I did really enjoy some of the tracks, but other bits were quite boring and forgettable.
Op sommige stukken heel goed, op andere heel rommelig. Favoriete liedje: pyramid song
good
Pablo Honey is the only great Radiohead album. Fight me! I have not been able to stomach these guys since that album. The Bends has a couple of good songs, but everything after that has done nothing but annoy me. I have to admit I never once heard this album, though. And I'm not as mad at it as the rest. It's perfectly fine background music. I liked it better upon repeated listening. Thom's voice is pretty much at it's least annoying here. Still a bit whiny, but not as melodramatic as usual. Much more sing-talking and that's the best use for him. Sometime I think he thinks his voice is a guitar and he just makes weird ululations. I know the 2 guitar players are good. It's evidenced in their earlier works and I've seen them play with other folks on video. But here, as in most of their albums, they get buried under layers of production. Shame. It's Ok.KI wouldn't run to turn it off it came on somewhere. But I don't think I'll be pulling it to enjoy much either. I'm being kind and giving it a 3 because while I didn't love it, it's produced well (aside from hiding the guitars from me) and it doesn't have any really annoying bits.
you and whose army + life in a glasshouse greatest songs here, pulk/pull RD instrumental great, pyramids pyramids pyramids, packt like sardine is also very interesting but the repeated eeriness is throwing me off. overall production is carrying this entire album 7.5/10
On my Radiohead playlist so will revisit later
After the first Radiohead album, I wasn't particularly thrilled to listen and it was sketchy. Pulk nearly made me stop listening but after that? A beautiful album. It flowed so well and was so hauntingly beautiful at times
Good but not their best
Not sure. I don't mind the experimental aspects of the music so much, but it's the laid-back depressing musical style, (especially the vocals), that I'm not a fan of.
They all sound the same to me
Amnesiac is one of those albums that seems engineered for people who already speak Radiohead fluently. The textures are inventive, the musicianship is sharp, and there’s a lot of craft hiding under the surface. But for me, the emotional connection never quite shows up. Thom Yorke’s voice, which is the anchor for so many fans, ends up creating distance instead of drawing me in. It’s expressive, sure, but also a little alienating, and that colors the whole experience. The songs drift between eerie jazz, electronic experiments, and hushed ballads, and while I can appreciate the ambition, it’s hard to feel fully pulled into the world they’re building. I understand why this era of Radiohead is beloved, and I respect the creativity behind it, but the resonance just isn’t there for me. I’m glad to have spent time with it, but it’s more of a “respect the artistry” listen than something I’d return to. A solid three stars.
Just ok for me.
Amnesiac starts with so much potential. Pakt in a Sardine Can has such a cool groove, I’ve loved this song since I heard it in 2001. Then we get Thom’s caterwauling on Pyramid Song. Just can’t stand it. The music behind it is interesting too. Pull/Pull is a cool composition, the robotic voice over the incessant electronic beat. Back to the Caterwauling on You and Whose Army. The riff for You Might Be Wrong is so great. Typically I’d want garage style drums with it but the electronic beat and synth bass works well, it almost reminds me of an Aphex Twin type beat. I like the ominous Chromatic Mediant of Morning Bell but could do without Thom’s singing. Dollars and Cents is a cool surfy/psychedelic groove. Overall I enjoyed it more than I expected to.
I like it
I am a fan of Radiohead, but this is not the one you have to hear before you die.
It is its own thing which is great and I enjoy listening to it. You and Whose Army in Incendies put me on Radiohead and it remains their standout song on this album.
I would give it like a 3.5. The production is really good i’ll give it that there are some really interesting sounds and I love how full it sounds, everything just kind of flows into each other. I’m not a huge fan of music where I can’t tell what they’re saying though and it’s just not really my type of music in general, but it was good
The last song may have singlehandedly bumped this up but I don’t LOVE this album the way that I love most Radiohead albums. This is a solid 3.5 to a 4. There just doesn’t feel like a super cohesive idea here. And the best songs are so much better than the rest of the songs.
Pretty pointless Radiohead inclusion if you ask me. First two tracks are the best. 2.6/5
2.5 stars I’ve never been crazy about this album the handful of times I’ve listened before. Even though it was recorded at the same time as Kid A, if feels like a transition between Kid A and the mediocre HttT. But when I listen I remember that there’s a lot to like to the music. It just doesn’t really flow as an album to me. The pacing feels off. Some of the songs feel less impactful. But there are good songs and I don’t hate it when it’s over the way I do with their next record. But don’t know if it’s a must listen, particularly for people who aren’t fans of the band, considering they have at least 4 better albums.
Solid but not their best work. Won't be going back for another listen.
Sad drone
Well I've listened to a fair amount of Radiohead before, but actually have not listened to Amnesiac all the way through so this will be a first. "Packt Like Sardines In a Crushd Tin Box" is quite interesting to me. The instrumentation is extremely out their and works well, and yet taken as a whole, there's something almost pop-adjacent about it. I can't quite put my finger on it, but I do really like it. "Pyramid Song" I've seen this song mostly talked about due to the 'music theory' involved in it, but the song is doing a lot more then just trying to be pretentious for the sake of it. I love the feeling like the song is "catching" itself. Almost the musical equivalent of the feeling of falling asleep, only to catch yourself and wake back up at the last moment. Its also very cinematic, I can see the line between something like this and their attempt at a James Bond intro. "You and Whose Army?" just reminds me of Incendies at this point, great movie, never gonna watch it again. God damn "I might be Wrong" is good, sometimes radiohead just finds a tune and explores it perfectly and suddenly I "get" the hype. I am very off and on about the entire discography of Radiohead but when they hit it, they do it out of the park. "Knives out" sounds dramatically different from everything so far, and feels like it belongs on another radiohead album. It's very much a radiohead song that blends into all the other songs. The second half of this album really feels like it goes to nowhere after the first half. I don't know if that's the intent, but it feels quite unfulfilling and not nearly as fully formed as the first half. Perhaps I'm not in the mood for it, but it did feel like the album stalled out and so did my interest.
Продакшн и сведение конечно на высоте. Еще бы без нытья было, но это уже был бы не radiohead
Atmospheric. Had a nice nap to pair it up!
Radiohead's obviously quite a monochromatic band (that's kind of the point), but I prefer the records where there are brief splashes of color that invigorate that sound. Not enough of that here, despite some really good tracks
Doesn’t quite breakthrough at any point for me. A B- side album.
Good??? Depressing??? Masterful??? Boring??? Who could say???
Good for lo-fi, chiller vibes while I'm trying to accomplish tedious tasks, but this isn't really something I can see myself vibing to or putting on repeat in the future. Feels like the songs are hurt by how whispery/murmury the vocals feel too in addition to the random wailing. An alright album at best but not the most memorable I've ever heard. Couple points for Life In a Glasshouse being some sweet jazzy jazz.
This album is fine, but if I’m being honest, I’ve always preferred Kid A. There’s a reason most of these tracks didn’t make it onto that record—they’re looser, more fragmented, and while none of them are outright bad, they don’t feel like top-tier material either. Amnesiac has always been framed as a companion to Kid A, but the comparison ends up working against it. It’s like when your favorite movie finally gets a sequel: all the familiar ingredients are there, yet the spark—the heart—is missing. That, in a nutshell, is Amnesiac.
I've listened to maybe 10-20 Radiohead songs and nothing from this album. It's pretty good. It will be interesting to compare this album with others. 3/5 —————————————— Liked: — Pulk/Pull Revolving Doors — You And Whose Army? — Life In a Glasshouse
Solid record. Hunting Bears the highlight.
It’s Radiohead there’s not much to say, I like the electronic bits. A strong 3/5
I really liked "I Might Be Wrong" - the first thing on the album that really grabbed me. Never been a huge Radiohead guy and I don't really know why, it just hasn't grabbed me. I had OK Computer a few weeks ago and liked it a lot! So maybe I am learning. I think this album was pretty weird, I am surprised Radiohead is as mainstream as they are. It was also pretty boring - nothing really jumped out to me and I don't care for the vocals on this record really. Over a whole album it's just not for me. I am doing a “neutral” 3 stars because I’m still learning my rating system here. 2 stars seems too harsh.
Evil
I'm a Radiohead guy but this was pretty boring. All the songs are very samey, I get that its their style but ~50 minutes of just "ooooh aaaaaaah saaaaaaddd" over a reversed guitar track didn't do it for me. Was going to give it a 2 originally but Life in a Glasshouse was really really cool. Love the sax. Favorite Track: Life in a Glasshouse
I love them for their weirdness, their fearless will to experiment, but I don’t always enjoy the results.
half the songs are good the other half is more noise than music
начали хорошо, а после середины улетели куда-то в экспериментальные звучки и немного затерялись... поставила бы 3.5, но такого варианта к сожалению нет. не обижайтесь, радиохэд, у вас есть альбомы сильно лучше.
Not their strongest; would probably warrant a 3.5 as I'd enjoy it in some moods, but only really enjoyed a couple of tracks
I had to listen through this twice because of how quickly the 43 minutes go. "Morning Bell/Amnesiac" is the stand out for me, but really this whole album just makes me sad. It's raining today too, I'm haunted by the greyness, I feel like the little dude on the album. Pulk / Pull Revolving Doors - is such a trippy atmosphere. I definitely get the vibe that this is the B sides to Kid A. I do enjoy Kid A more, but both leave me feeling equally grey... Or feel like I should be sitting in the middle of a padded room, looking at the pulsing nature of the waves... idk LOL 6.5/10.
Da e nåken gode sanga her, men går bra om eg ikkje har dei på repeat liksom
There are better Radiohead albums out there than this, but it’s not as bad as the last one they gave us.
It’s a pretty interesting album, of course Injust knwe radiohead from creep. But this other stuff from them its something I enjoy more. I also love the fact that it let me on a lot of nore music that I will hear more and more of.
Probably Radiohead’s most challenging album when it was released. Stripped back production on most tracks compared to their prior releases. I would say Pull/Pulk Revolving Doors is more experimental and challenging than anything on Kid A. The album has a cold, dark, mellow vibe overall. In some ways it feels more like a collection of polished demos than a cohesive album. As many songs as I like a lot here, mostly the middle section of the album, there’s as many that are meh or I really don’t care for. An interesting, worthwhile listen overall but I wouldn’t consider it an essential album. I consider it in Radiohead’s 2nd tier under The Bends, OK Computer, Kid A, and In Rainbows in Tier 1.
There are a good number of tracks I enjoy on here but let’s call a spade a spade. We could’ve left Kid A B-sides off this list (3.5/5)
Not my jam
Boy did I forget how much I like this project at times. Believe it or not I actually like Amnesiac a good bit, I think it still suffers from the biggest problem Kid A also has. That problem being this album wants you to feel things at the cost of the tracks coming together a bit clunky. I won't lie I get why people don't like Pulk / Pull Revolving Doors but it is far from Radiohead's worst song. Also call this Kid A B-sides all you want but we all know that this was supposed to be a double album so that means they are in fact not B-sides but a whole other experience. I find this album to be a really good driving album, everything feels so vast like watching a mountain slowly fade into the distance when driving on the highway. There was a point in time where I thought this album was better than Kid A but now I know that opinion is just wrong. It's a solid listen but is nothing compared to it's much more appreciated and loved twin.
Part two of Kid A, at times its leftovers, at others its genuine extension. In either case, Amnesiac isn't very exciting: even w/ its signaling of forgetful and bewildered states of mind, I'd have liked more energy, at least more in-your-face lethargy if a slothful approach is indeed what they're going for. I wouldn't call this a caricature of the Radiohead sound, but only a handful of the tracks poignantly command the band's signature resonance: 'You And Whose Army,' 'Knives Out,' 'Morning Bell/Amnesiac.' Lyrically, Yorke relies too heavily not only on the obscure but the trite: 'There are doors that let you in / And out / But never open'; 'While you make pretty speeches / You feed me to the lions / A delicate balance.' Ya can't tell me that’s not...soft.
Never listened to this album before because I heard it was Kid A leftovers. I can hear why this is the case (Morning Bell is literally on here again, love that song so I can't hate). A lot of boops and beeps. I'm not a huge Kid A fan so that doesn't help, but Pyramid Song alone bumps this to 3 stars for me.
Often times an extremely artistic and beautiful album, interjected with possibly the single weirdest songs I’ve ever heard which make for a bizarre and often unpleasant listening experience.
Amnesiac is the first Radiohead album I’ve had to listen to for this challenge and, while it’s not the first album of theirs I’ve heard, it might be the one I’ve been exposed to the least. Not to say I’m massively knowledgeable about the band’s discography, but most of their albums have at least one song I’ve heard or are brought up enough in wider music discourse that I at least recognize its name/artwork – that was not the case here, so I went into Amnesiac virtually blind. After listening through it, do I feel like I’ve been missing out all this time? Honestly, not really. I’ll always appreciate Thom Yorke’s drive to make thought-provoking, experimental music, but this particular batch just didn’t have a lot of tracks that landed for me. What happened the majority of the time was that a song would open up with a cool idea that would make me turn my head a little a go “oooooh,” but then it would get looped to the point of annoyance and/or not progress in an interesting way. Only a few cuts on Amnesiac left enough of an impression on me to make me want to revisit them, so I wouldn’t say the album is a MUST listen – I feel confident that there are much better Radiohead LPs coming later on! Highlights: Pyramid Song, You and Whose Army, Life in a Glasshouse
Mai mult de fundal
It's Radiohead. It's weird. I always loved the Pyramid Song. I don't know that I'd ever care to get more than surface level on Radiohead, so this was fine in the background.
This is the first time I feel like I kind of get Radiohead. They’ve never really worked for me but I appreciated the melancholy of this. Some of it (like Pulk/Pull) really didn’t work for me, but a lot did
6.5/10
When I first bought Radiohead's "Amnesiac", upon its initial release, it was largely a disappointment. My view has mellowed over the intervening years, but it remains a mixed bag. For me, the album is anchored by three stand-out tracks: "Pyramid Song," "You and Whose Army?," and "I Might Be Wrong." The remainder of the material ranges from decent but somewhat dull to outright poor. Three stars. No. Title 1 "Packt Like Sardines in a Crushd Tin Box" (2/5) 2 "Pyramid Song" (5/5) 3 "Pulk/Pull Revolving Doors" (2/5) 4 "You and Whose Army?" (5/5) 5 "I Might Be Wrong" (4/5) 6 "Knives Out" (3/5) 7 "Morning Bell/Amnesiac" (3/5) 8 "Dollars and Cents" (3/5) 9 "Hunting Bears" (3/5) 10 "Like Spinning Plates" (3/5) 11 "Life in a Glasshouse" (3/5) Total - 36 Average - 3.27 141/1001 72/141 albums reviewed were new to me.
An important step in their transition into their Weird Shit Phase. I get it and appreciate more than I did at the time. Some incredible arrangements and structures here, inside some admittedly hard to deal with noise and vocals. You're rewarded with some all-timers in Pyramid Song, I Might Be Wrong, Knives Out. Life in a Glass House is goofy but I like it. You can also see Jonny Greenwood's path into film scores.
Why's this guy so sad?
It's definitely something different
Objectively it’s good but it lacks fun factor for me
Kudos for the inventiveness of this album. Not my jam, though.
Feeling 3.5ish, def see how this laid the foundation for their later work
I think I sit on a 3.5 for this one, I do enjoy Radiohead but this particular album doesn't seem to hit as hard as their more revered projects. This is another situation where I think I'm going to get the book to see where there headspace was at when suggesting this album in particular. I'm not the Radiohead SAVANT but when the options are The Bends, Kid A, In Rainbows, and OK Computer it's strange they went with this pick instead of those others. In regards to the album itself, its easy to listen to and has the Radiohead charm I enjoy. But no track really jumped out to me as one I'd deliberately put on and jam to. Perhaps the reason this one came up was because, similar to the Foo Fighters album, it's the project less people are familiar with?
I’m going to preface this review by stating that “Life in a Glasshouse” may be one of the most me-coded songs I’ve ever heard. Quite frankly this is one of the best pieces of music I have ever had the privilege of listening to. The brass section was doing things in 2001 alongside this sadboy ass music we haven’t heard SINCE 2001. What the fuck. HOWEVER, I think the rest of the album is alright. Nothing particularly stood out to me in a strong direction one way or another. I’m going to give this a strong 3.5. Leave your strongest creep cover in the comments.
I know I’m supposed to love Radiohead, but often they’re just perfectly fine to me. 6/10
Ja naja, Radiohead. Passt schon.
I'm not sure why this is on the list (according to the index I've been using it isn't, but that must be outdated.) It's a bunch of atmospheric B-sides that surely appeal to the diehards, but I didn't need to hear them.
of all the radiohead albums I think this is the one you need to hear the least before you die. kid a but less good
Slightly missed the mark for me, a mid tier Radiohead album at most. The sister album Kid A was a much more coherent version of this one.
radiohead again. still ok but boring
I like Radiohead a lot but I don't think this album needs to be on this list.
I like Radiohead in small doses. I wasn’t really in the mood for this album, however, there were a few songs I was already familiar with that I enjoyed. Added to Library: Packt Like Sardines Pyramid Song I Might Be Wrong
More Radiohead. As the list progresses, we now get multiple repeat offenders per week. Radiohead has been ok for the most part but I’m certainly not “giving thanks” upon seeing Thommy Yorke and the lads nudge their electronic instruments into frame. Considering that I haven’t even heard OF this record, I’m not anticipating a classic. I’m sure that news has shaken the earth in a far-flung nation somewhere. Or maybe that was just a regular earthquake. Listen, we don’t have time to discuss. There are lives at stake. Packt Like Sardines in a Crushd Tin Box - Zany song title that is accompanied by a track that is actually pretty fun. More shock. See? I too am a reasonable man. Please do not go near my case, it contains armadillo innards. Do NOT ask why. Pyramid Song - This song tried to get me to listen to two other songs and to get those songs to listen to two other songs. I tried to get Limp Bizkit’s Break Stuff to listen to Giant Steps by John Coltrane but now I’m just financially destitute. Damn you, Pyramid song. Pulk/Pull Revolving Doors - POV MFW I pull the pulk door TMI TBH FYP #respect #pulkhead This is actually another pretty cool song. You and Whose Army? - The imaginary army I invented as a toddler (just now) that is comprised of armoured walruses with swords for tusks. That’s my army. Who is in your army? Emaciated music nerds? The reanimated corpse of skrillex? Try me pal. I Might Be Wrong - You were on this one. Geez this is dull. Knives Out - Due to the ample girth of my fingers, I often use “O’s” and “I’s” interchangeably or add superfluous instances of either letter. This is, of course, not intentional, but alas, happens regularly. I say all this to say that adding an O to English words with an I already in them makes them sound like you have an English accent. Morning Bell/Amnesiac - This is one of the worst songs I’ve ever heard. Dollars and Cents - Pounds and pence didn’t test as well in the good ol’ USA. I say “good ol’” satirically. No “good ol’” place has the top Cause of Death for children as guns. It usually just has fresh baked goods and a friendly shopkeep. That’s a good ol’ place. I like the jazz underneath this track. Enjoyable. Hunting Bears - Twink anthem to the tune of the opening riff from MTV stunt show, Jackass. Like Spinning Plates - It’s pretty ‘ard, innit? Life in a Glasshouse - It gets real hot and the sun burns my vintage Haystack Calhoun 8x10’s. Fuck the glasshouse. Ruining my good shit. Priceless hoss heirlooms. Best song on the record though. I love avant-garde stuff, but this just feels a a little dull. Lifeless. Ultimately it feels safe as far as pushing the boundaries. We’ve heard plenty of albums from around this time that do the quiet synth atmospheres and this mostly just buzzes next to those droning slogs, occasionally raising its hand meekly with a stab of jazz instrumentation or a decent track, only to retreat back into the doldrums of mediocre indie electronica. I like some of this and I hate some of this, but the rest of it was like painting your walls blue. Unconventional? Sure. Groundbreaking? Not in the slightest. I don’t hate this record, but I wanted to be challenged a bit more, or at least provided the fascinating fusions of Life in a Glasshouse. I guess I can just go listen to Neutral Milk Hotel for that. 2.5-3 HIGHLIGHTS: Packt Like Sardines in a Crushd Tin Box, Pulk/Pull Revolving Doors, Life in a Glasshouse
Good study music
43 minutes of my life I will never get back. Hate to share publicly that this was an enjoyable listen. The tone of this album was fun and I won’t turn it off if it comes on.
Not my fave album of theirs, but still solid. I do always love "Knives Out" when I encounter it.
A bit hit and miss for me
much more instrumental/lofi than i was expecting, given my only exposure to them before was Creep
i like this. less likely to go back to than their others
This is perfectly fine but I am driven insane by the fact that I simply do not get the Radiohead hype. What am I missing?!?!
Not their best effort
all the songs sounded the same depressing
Wow a Radiohead album I don't hate. It made me realise it's that singing style he does where he sounds in pain and smug at the same time that rips my knitting. There was less of that on here.
Much better than I thought it was when released.
I should have given OK Computer a 4
This album has both some of the best songs I've heard by Radioheard and some of the worst. The tail end of this album especially is a massive fall off from the start.
I actually like this better than Kid A, but Radiohead is still more interested in amusing themselves than in entertaining the audience. This awkward middle part of Radiohead's discography is my least favourite part of their work.
Not sure why this isn’t Kid A I’m reviewing. This album isn’t bad but it sounds exactly like what it is, the leftovers from an all around better album. 3/ 5
= the Beatles The best Radiohead album yet
An album you can admire more than love
Oddly enough, this might be the album that broke me on Radiohead. It was genuinely pleasant to listen to, as it was largely in the background while I did work. That said, I might actually put this on again.
Musically really nice all the songs are interesting and never boring lots of exploration of blues and old timey jazz. But over all to mush of a downer to listen to in long spurts
I really wanted to like this. But I didn't. Maybe another listen would reveal musical depths I'm missing.
Medium-good Radiohead album. Very medium-good. UPDATE: project partner xilef couldn’t get the edit function to work so he sent me his review to add here: It's uh very like computery and autotuned in some songs and I like that but it's also like normal and that's what makes it good. I also really liked in the first song the drums. It's a good mixture of electronic and rock. And also the tiniest bit of pop. xilef's rating: 4 stars
Like a bevy of modern art, there’s merit here but it largely fails to connect with me. There are some intriguing soundscapes and motifs but they fail to build in to something bigger, even as it does strengthen in the second half. Unsurprisingly, the more traditional song/lyric combos were the strengths for me. Can’t appreciate the lyrics if you can’t understand them…however even when they are discernible they’re often repetitive past the point of effectiveness. Listened to: VT to NYC train. Favorite tracks: I Might Be Wrong, Knives Out, Hunting Bears, Life in a Glasshouse
would prob be more enjoyable if I was high. A bit out there
It is an interesting album, but it’s just largely not that enjoyable on the whole. The musicianship is obviously top level, though there are not many songs that grab my attention. Highlights - I Might Be Wrong, Knives Out, Pulk/Pull ⭐️⭐️⭐️
ничего не поняла но первую песню теперь узнаю. проект познания радиохед продолжится… позже
Their music is a bit more musically complex, avant garde and interesting than a lot of other rock. Unfortunately for me, Thom Yorke's voice is an annoying distraction.
Kind of odd stuff. Not bad but just not great.
Like Topographic Oceans era Yes - it's the tones man, not the tunes. A lot of neat sounds pumping through a set of headphones. Three stars for I Might Be Wrong. The rest - less impactful. At times - genius level distraction. But distraction nonetheless.
I enjoyed it, but in the most melancholy way you can enjoy something. I’ve always loved yorkes use of minimalism, and this is no exception, if in fact one of the best examples.
Close to a 4, but it's a very solid 3. Some great tunes but then a couple clunkers that bring it down.
This is honestly about the time I don’t care as much but Radiohead. The vocals are all incomprehensible moaning. The music is trying so hard to be Unique with weird time signatures. They are obviously good musicians but they start to lack any interesting melodies.
3,5
So dreary....
amazing bits & pieces. i might be wrong / knives out / life in a glasshouse elevate a weaker supporting cast!
First one - giving straight up 3 stars as a benchmark to the rest. This is about me, not Radiohead
Not bad, but not a huge fan either
it's slightly annoying me that at the moment my top artist on this website is Radiohead because i gave 5 stars to two of their albums so far (and i haven't even got to OK Computer yet). idk why it just feels really basic lol, like "who's your top artist on the 1001 albums generator website" "Radiohead" - idk it just bothers me, i thought i was cooler than that (i didn't think i was cooler than that). anyway, for some reason i'm really familiar with every Radiohead album APART from Amnesiac which i always just skipped over for no reason. i think there are some Obvious Bangers here but also a lot of stuff that is just OK.
Enjoyed this album more than I expected.. sonically there’s a lot of industrial vibes but not too abrasive to distract melodic nature of the songs. Think Gorillaz mixed with NIN
This is like if you went 1-5 in a baseball game but you hit one bloop single and struck out four times
This one was a little slow to be honest. Good music sound and the vocals and lyrics you would expect. But lacked a bit of energy and standout tracks.
A decent album with some industrial touches.
3.5
When I first started *Amnesiac*, I thought it was pretty much one of those albums that separates the real fans from the bandwagon fans. This is truly an album only an uber-Radiohead fan can love. But after reading the history of it I honestly believe that this is more of an album of what was left of the *Kid A* sessions. It feels like they released the more accessible material on that album, and left the more experimental tracks on this one. There are a few nuggets so the accessible line, like my favorite track "Dollars and Cents", as well as "I Might be Wrong" and "Knives Out" which I also liked. Most of this album, though, reminds me of what people say when they call them too bloopy. I did not dislike all of the experimental tracks on the album. One that really stood out to me was "Hunting Bears" with the guitar playing around the white noise swish. Still, all in all I think I found more material that I either didn't appreciate or didn't like.... but it has its moments (6.8) ★★★
"Pyramid Song" is my favourite Radiohead song, but I am not overly keen on the rest of this. 3.5 stars
Not the best of the band.
There's some good depressing songs and some mid depressing songs in here.
I’m not overly in to Radiohead so would have never listened to this album independently I must admit it surprised me. I enjoyed a few songs and the album as a whole didn’t grate on me as much as I thought it would
I like 5/11 songs. There was one song I think belongs in Sinners.
not my cup of tea
I mean I've listend to it some times back in my day when I was in the mood for Radiohead and was tired of all their albums. Like it's fine, some great stuff on here!
I went on a deep dive with Radiohead this year after them passing me by completely whilst growing up. I guess my music taste is probably subdued enough these days to appreciate them… This isn’t my favourite of theirs, but could see it growing on me with a few listens. Definitely has it’s moments, and they can’t be beaten for underlying textures and vibe. Knowing what else they’re capable of I think I’ll have to go middle of the road with this one.
I’ve started my Radiohead journey recently, beginning with The Bends. This album is quite the departure from The Bends, and while some songs I enjoy quite a bit, Amnesiac doesn’t quite resonate with me as much as some of their other albums I’ve listened to.
Ihan hyvä levy, ei selkeästi erottunut mitään yksittäistä biisiä, mutta toisaalta inspiroi kuuntelemaan tarkemmin Radioheadin muuta tuotantoa. 3/5.
I liked what I heard but it was a bit too slow/quiet for me to really enjoy. Best tracks were Knives Out and Life in a Glasshouse.
Probably a high 3 for me. I like it more than Hail to the Thief, but I know there are other Radiohead albums I like a lot more and this just doesn't feel as fresh and interesting as Kid A.
I liked the second half (I Might Be Wrong, Knives Out, Life in a Glasshouse, Like Spinning Plates) way more than the first half, I think some of the songs would definitely grow on me if I listened more times. Vibes were depressing though, I felt like I was a brooding male protagonist in a film walking down a dark street contemplating a fatal mistake I had made :D
track 1: the buddhist temple esque bells creates an interesting contrasts against the synths. thom yorkes vocals are kinda muted and muffled here but it adds to the atmosphere the instrumentation evolves into something a little more experimental as the song progresses; i kinda like it track 2: it reminds me of another radiohead song but i cant put a name to it rn. the strings swelling in the outro is nice track 3: the drums reminds me of d&b track 4: my favourite song so far. its a prog rocky song; it starts with just guitar, then some vocal effect and eventually swells with keys and drums track 5: not feeling this one tbh track 6: not feeling this one either track 7: whered you park the car? track 8: these songs are starting to sound the same track 9: finally something different, interesting short instrumental songs with guitars and a synth? track 10: esoteric song i like it track 11: review: a bit too esoteric for me seems like music ppls listen to when on drugs
Good, but not my favorite era of Radiohead.
Not very good for a Radiohead album
I really like Radiohead’s other albums, particularly OK Computer and In Rainbows. However, I feel like this record is comparatively disappointing. The instrumentals are not as interesting as in its older brother Kid A. Some parts feel more so experimental than made to be good. Thom does not really go that far in his vocals, especially compared to other albums. However, when songs hit, they do heavily. Pyramid song is a masterpiece. Mid 3.
So I’ve only gotten The Bends and In Rainbows from Radiohead so far. Loved the former, thought the latter was ok. As someone hoping to get to the meat of Radiohead, you know, the shit everyone likes, I have a question: Is this really just Kid A’s rejects? I know that there’s someone out there waiting to go “Well, actually” to me, complete with the nerd glasses and all. But that’s really all I got from this. Just a lot of second hand stuff. It’s not bad second hand stuff, hell most of it is alright. But this feels a little forced to be on this list, unless it’s necessary for Kid A. If you can’t tell at this point, this list is my real first experience with Radiohead. Always heard about them, never really heard them. I’m starting to get a little weary that I think I might only like Radiohead’s early material, before a lot of the experimentation. Granted I still need to actually listen to the meat of Radiohead (if this generator will take a fucking break from the country kick it’s on), but after In Rainbows, I’m figuring out there’s a chance I don’t really care for Radiohead a lot. …or maybe this was just a collection of b-sides. Probably that. Favorite track: I Might Be Wrong Other hits: Pyramid Song, You And Whose Army?, Pulk/Pull Revolving Doors, Knives Out, Packt Like Sardines In A Crushd Tin Box
I was not in the mood for this. A lot of varied sounds throughout, but a lot of it was in your face and came across more as noise.
The first two tracks very much sound like leftover Kid A tracks. Not a big fan of Pulk/Pull Revolving Doors, not enough of a melody for me. I love the instrumentation on I Might Be Wrong. The fuzzy guitar, intriguing bass line, and especially the way the synth slowly takes it over.
hey im gonna blow yr fuckin mind: that's a book on the cover. people will get mad at you for calling this table scraps from Kid A but it's not like, wrong? i think at one point this was my least favorite Radiohead album other than Pablo Honey. i don't stand by that anymore though. i've learned to appreciate the weirdo aspects this album has as a metaphorical little brother with weird niche interests to Kid A. Pull/Pulk Revolving Doors is so underrated tbh, which i have a pass to say because i listen to a lot of electronic and i know good idm goddammit deserves to be one of the 1001? no. Radiohead has plenty.
boring
Dreary but ok. Some good tracks, some not so good. Standard Radiohead fare.
упоролись пацаны
Album 892, my sixth and final Radiohead album. I've enjoyed the five Radiohead albums I've reviewed so far, but The Bends has stood out as my clear favorite of the bunch. I gave it five stars, bought a copy of it on CD, and I listen to it pretty regularly. All their other albums got four stars from me; there's something about Radiohead's way of arranging their music that I find incredibly pleasant. I believe this might be their lowest rated album on this list, but I'm still looking forward to reviewing it. Ah, I can see why this is the lowest rated Radiohead album on this list. It’s fine, but it doesn’t really do anything to further bolster Radiohead’s reputation as one of the greatest bands of this century, and it also doesn’t do anything for influential or groundbreaking for popular music. Musically, it has some bursts of genius, and the songwriting is solid, but Amnesiac didn’t really create much of a spark with me. Even though I wasn’t wowed by Amnesiac, it did have some songs that I enjoyed. “Packt Like Sardines In a Crushd Tin Box” had a sound that I really enjoyed, bolstered by the electronic pulsing, bass playing, and tinny percussion. “I Might Be Wrong” was my favorite song on the album. The opening guitar riff was fantastic, and the percussion gave it a fantastic punch. The song just kept getting better as it went on. “Knives Out” was really good too. I loved the tone of the guitar, and the soft cymbals sounded great. “Knives Out” had my favorite vocals on the album too. The rest of the album was fine, and I didn’t mind listening to it, but I just didn’t feel like Amnesiac really brought a lot to the table. Maybe I just have Radiohead fatigue.
Progressive, techy soundspace
Radiohead has a unique sounds that pulls me in for the first few songs, but gets tiring over a full album. My attention just isn't held by the airy vocals.
big 3
Gute Melodien, teilweise etwas whiny. Top produziert. Nach einer Weile aber etwas langatmig
Where does one track end and the other start? Unbelievably boring.
I mean, it's Radiohead, it's good, it's interesting, it's layered and intriguing... But I never put this one on, it's not got the songs I enjoy especially on it, it's got great atmosphere but it doesn't spark joy. I heard things this listen that I hadn't heard before and it's all good, but I just don't enjoy it compared to most of their other output.
kind of eerie
This is where Radiohead kind of go too far for me. I can’t deny the creativity but I’m more of a ‘The Bends’ / ‘OK Computer’ kind of guy. I like the hits even if Thom Yorke doesn’t! Still, there’s sonic beauty throughout this record.
I do like Radiohead, but this album is definitely a lot more experimental than earlier works
Not my favorite Radiohead
I like Radiohead in small doses, a whole album is just too much whine to digest at once.
See my other reviews of Radiohead. This is more of the same. To recap: Good high brow tracks but Yorke’s vocals get annoying.
It's fine but not my thing. Thom Yorke's voice is still weird.
I always liked the idea of Radiohead more than I actually listened to their music. And they're kinda intimidating. Yes, they make music. But.. you know, music nerds' music. But I liked this.
This was a suprise - I wasn't expecting an almost ambient album. Again I started with not really enjoying this but came around by the end of the album.
I am putting this at a four as I enjoyed it without ever really getting hooked. I do plan to return to this though and I feel like it's an album that is likely to grow on me more over time.
alright!
Amnesiac – Radiohead (2001) | Experimental Rock / Art Rock | Avg: 6.7 | Favorite Song: “Knives Out”* Amnesiac is one of those albums that feels like it’s constantly drifting in and out of clarity—beautiful in moments, but frustratingly elusive overall. “Knives Out” is the one track that gave me something to hold onto: a clear groove, memorable melody, and emotional resonance that cuts through the fog. A few other songs—like “Pyramid Song” and “You and Whose Army?”—show flashes of brilliance, but much of the album stays wrapped in abstraction. The textures are rich, but the emotional payoff isn’t always there. It’s not that Amnesiac lacks ideas—it’s overflowing with them—but too many of those ideas feel like sketches rather than complete thoughts. Compared to the tight emotional arc of Kid A, this one feels more like a companion piece with a looser grip on cohesion. That said, I get why some people revere it. There’s a cold beauty in its disorientation. But from my perspective, it’s Radiohead at their most cryptic—an album I respect more than I actually enjoy.
Good
A really good mostly slow rock album. A bit to subdued for my everyday taste but definitely something I could see myself listening to whilst reading or doing stuff around the house.
Never heard anything by Radiohead besides Creep. They’re good, but not amazing, if this album is anything to go by.
Nothing great
I was ignorant of Radiohead
I've only ever listened to Radio Head in the post album format, but as a full album it is very powerful. Atmospheric and moody. The Pyramid being well set up as a second song and gaining power in the transition from, "Packt Like Sardines....", and then sliding into a more electronically focused, staccato, revolving doors. There is beauty here, sad beauty with a silver lining of hope. The time flew quickly while listening. But I am not drawn back for another listen.
No need for deep cut Radiohead when we already have several better albums by them on the list. It was fine but nothing stood out.
I guess I just don’t appreciate Radiohead. I don’t see why critics love them so much. Perhaps I’m not sophisticated enough but like most of their music I’ve heard I think this is highly esoteric and self indulgent. I don’t hate it but I don’t really like it very much.
It seems like this album is just leftovers from the Kid A sessions? That sounds right to me. This was definitely the weakest Radiohead album we've heard so far and while it does have a cool overall vibe, I was not as wowed by it as the other albums. Still their worst is better than most bands' best so it gets the 3.
There are some great songs on this album, Pyramid Song is one of Radiohead's best IMO. But a lot of it is also just a bit "whatever" or even downright feels like a joke... I'm looking at you, "Pulk/Pull Revolving Doors"...
Dystopian dark moody noise
Ok
Solid throughout, but nothing grabbed me.
Good album
From an atmospheric standpoint, I really enjoyed this. Another listen might improve the score, but overall, still, a quality album!
Lots of interesting songs, not my favorite but I don't hate it. I wish it were heavier.
Not a bad album but doesn't quite reach the heights of some other Radiohead albums. Thom's ghoulish whaling gets a bit tedious towards the end of the album. 5.5/10 (2.75/5)
Algún día veré en Radiohead lo que la gente ve. Hoy no es ese día.
Not bad at all, just a bit boring. I know Radiohead can do better.
I can see why people like them but not for me
A band trying to find something new but still not quite there yet but its still good because its radiohead
I think raidohead are at their best when not going fully electronic and overlaying live instruments. Think this album bears this out, the best songs are less electronic. Not their best overall but still decent 3.5*
Zanimljiv, anksiozan, vanzemaljski album. Elementi pravih instrumenata sa digitalnim se lijepo ispreplicu. Thom nekad stenje previse po mom ukusu i nekad su stvarno preapstraktni. Bubnjevi i bas gitara super hipnoticni u dosta pjesama. Top 3 pjesme: I might be wrong Life in a glasshouse Pyramid song/you and whose army 3.5/5
Liked it ok.
oh yeah? you and whose army?!
Such a melancholy album. What was their headspace like at the time? Cross between 40s band and Billy Corgan
Only strengthens my belief that Radiohead is one of the most overrated bands ever.
Favorite song: We ride tonight.
Not bad but not their best
I just can't get myself to enjoy Radiohead. It isn't that it isn't good but I can't fall into an album. I literally can't enjoy it. Individual moments sure. I think that's a me thing. It's a fine album.
Not their best but that’s still damn good
So this was an interesting album. I’m very much a surface level Radiohead fan so I was excited to learn alittle more, especially cause I never would’ve picked this album from the bunch cause the cover artwork is underwhelming. But I think it starts great. The first two tracks are great, and I really enjoy where those two songs go. But I kinda lost interest in the milk of the middle of the album. It was all alittle to subtle and quiet and slow for me. But the good news is that my favorite two tracks on the album are the last two. So the album saved face at the end. Both of those songs are kind of what I want more out of Radiohead, which is sort of mildly silly songs that are just kinda fun. Like both of those last two tracks feel so far from what I think of when I think of Radiohead. Overall though I did enjoy this album even if the middle and bulk of the album wasn’t my favorite of their material.
Not a bad album, but like it's name, not a memorable one. Some interesting things were going on, but nothing that really piqued my interest beyond going "huh, cool". Not enough for me to add to any of my playlists. 3/5
Good stuff. A bit to emo for my taste.
I’ve never been able to separate this from the much superior effort of Kid A. It really does seem like the outtakes and their messing around in the studio and then just decided to release it. That said, Radiohead’s outtakes are better than most band’s work, so still a worthwhile listen. 3⭐️
- kam nicht ganz an die Alben ran, die bisher von Radiohead dran waren, aber insgesamt war es meist entspannt und unterhaltend
Four Radiohead albums and counting. I am not surprised. Not bad for a post-OK Computer album, but still doesn't touch the greatness of the early stuff in my opinion. Some songs try, however.
Very rough, but also some gems in there.
I understand the love for Radiohead and really want to like them but I always struggle to enjoy their albums. It’s not bad but it reminds me of music a 12 year old wannabe edgelord would layer over anime clips from Cartoon Network.
Not as good as OK Computer. I did enjoy some tracks like You and Whose Army? and Knives Out.
I got a Radiohead album just a few days prior to this. While I still wasn't a tremendous fan of this one (as I also wasn't with the first one I listened to), I did feel like this album gave me more insight at the type of band Radiohead is. I felt like this was a pretty good package for them, and the musicianship was, of course, great. This would've been a little bit better for me had the two Pulk songs not been in there. Otherwise, this got me just a tad more interested in Radiohead. It wasn't bad.
A few good classic radiohead songs, a few I don't care for, and a few kid a leftovers
3 out of 5. Never heard of this album before. Some good little melodies and can hear the Boards of Canada influence but nothing grabbed me.
Trippy with nostalgia hits.
Very Deftones, but nothing really stood out
Cover: 5 Can easily fall asleep to this. They're all ok. Nothing stands out to me, not on first listen.
There's some Radiohead that hits for me and some that doesn't. This album is a mixture of both.
Pretty good Radiohead album, same ole depressing "we live in a society" sounds but with horns at points. 3 FYI I am a Radiohead fan, just more of a Ok Computer/ The Bends guy.
Some songs are better then others, but overall a nice album!
Radiohead is for me a difficult band. On the one side you have wonderful, great, magnificent songs like Creep and Karma Police. But on the other side albums like this one, which is ok but far away from the heights of the songs mentioned. I really like Knives Out and Life In a Glasshouse. But the rest did not impress me.
Too weird to listen to on its own but he perfect amount of weird to listen to while working on art projects. 🎨
A decent follow up to Kid A. Not as gopd though
Standout Songs: Pyramid Song Knives Out Life in a Glasshouse
I like the few Radiohead songs I've heard before, but never listened to their full albums really, besides Pablo Honey. But this album is really varied and interesting. A bit experimental, but sound is really unique and varied. Falls off in the second half.
Great band I struggle to follow them on all of the journeys this isn’t a favorite
Wow, way much better than expected!
Yawn. The way that some people feel about emo vocals is how I feel about Thom Yorke’s vocals. Nails on a chalkboard.
Not bad, not good.
I don't know if I can do a second day of Radiohead in a row. Ok so I made it to the next day without listening to it because I really didn't want to. I decided to just give it a little listen because the point is that i listen to it all, and I found it considerably better than the Kid A. This one has a lot more going on, and I somewhat enjoyed knives out. I still generally didn't enjoy whatever artistic intention he had with the dissonance/avant-garde style and god did I get annoyed with hearing his voice. 7/10
Was aight, some real good moments but overall just aight
Pretty good album.
Some standouts but not something I'd regularly listen to. Very slow and angsty.
*Amnesiac* is the sound of Radiohead trying hard to not repeat itself in the wake of *OK Computer*. This album turns the band's sound inside-out, empasizing what used to lurk in the background and eschewing many of the elements that made up their mid-to-late 90's sound. The aim of this album seems to be to use the most minimal amount of instrumention as possible and yet be able to convey some sort of emotion or feeling. The vocal melodies are less conventional also, almost as though singer Thom Yorke is using his voice for texture rather than serving as the focal point of the songs. The results, however, are often more admirable than enjoyable. The album as a whole conjures up an atmosphere of mental dislocation, but because the individual *songs* are so skeletal, not many of them have a strong emotional impact when taken on their own. Only the more fleshed-out songs (such as "Pyramid Song", "You And Whose Army?" and "Knives Out") come close to having some distinct emotional punch.
Huh, who thought Radiohead could be decent. ⭐⭐⭐
I can tell this is a great album that I should sit with and break down but it doesn't sound good enough to do that
Good. Radiohead good, which is to say, they do it all very well, but it doesn’t move me
Obsessed with the first song's title alone, but really cool song too. Pyramid Song is great. Didn't like Pulk/Pull Revolving Doors. You And Whose Army? is alright. I Might Be Wrong - cool riff to this one. Cool unexpected chord progressions in Knives Out. Morning Bell/Amnesia - love the unexpected major chords breaking up the minor ones. Dollars and Cents - reminded me a bit of Pale Green Ghosts by John Grant, but in general I found it more unsettling than enjoyable - instead of being both. Hunting Bears - nondescript enough. Like Spinning Plates - same. Life In a Glasshouse - love the old-timey drum and brass in it - reminded me of the unexpected old-fashioned sweetness of 'Good Night' from the White Album. No a fan of the song itself though.
Et av de svakeste albumene til Radiohead
Haven't ever properly gotten into Radiohead to understand their hype. Wasn't blown away by this but would like to listen to more
Not their best but still enjoyed it.
I liked 2 songs (Knives out, Life in a glasshouse), the rest is experimetal soundscapes that for some might work but not for me much. Still better effort than some other bands. 2 and 1/2 stars (rounded up)
It’s just too ethereal and too much electronica for me. Some good songs, but tough to sit through at times.
