Reviews (page 10 of 13)
I liked it. It was easily to listen to with some good songs on it.
I like radiohead, but this album did nothing for me
I like Radiohead in small doses.
Yet another experimental album comes my way with Amnesiac. This album is also another really weird one with a majority of the songs sounding like fever dreams and maybe making me fear i took some drugs without noticing. The experimental nature does work pretty well with these songs though. The more weird sounding ones often tended to be the better songs on the album. I feel this album is an acquired taste like all the other experimental albums i have looked at but i can easily see why this album has quite a bit of fans. Best Song: Packt Like Sardines In a Crushd Tin Box Worst Song: Hunting Bears
It’s really a testament to Radiohead’s songmaking ability that a collection of songs that were rejected from Kid A are still good enough to be considered one of the best albums ever. “Pyramid Song”, “Knives Out”, “Morning Bell/Amnesiac”, and even “I Might Be Wrong” are some of Radiohead’s greatest, but this album is noticeably less consistently good compared to most other Radiohead albums (except King of Limbs which I can’t find myself to enjoy at all). One of the low points includes “Pulk/Pull Revolving Doors” which sounds fine but for the modulated voice. Not sure why but whenever they use computerized voices, it really breaks up the flow of the album for me (also see “Fitter Happier” on OK Computer). I probably haven’t listened to this in 10+ years, and while I rated this album highly, I definitely didn’t think I’d remember it that well. About half the tracks are definitely forgettable, but I also forgot how much I enjoyed “Morning Bell/Amnesiac” (“releeeease meeeee”) and a few others in addition to the 2 singles.
Not bad. I normally don’t care for Radiohead but it was better than expected.
Woah didn't expect this to make the list at all Not their best work but there are some great tracks on here
Same old radio head, not much my jam. Also did this song have songs off of kid a? That or they sound the same
Questionable
Unique, with lots of interesting sound. Compelling in places, dull in others.
This isn't Radiohead at its best, but still contains some good tracks.
Très bon album pour se réveiller un lundi matin par 0°c. Y'a rien qui m'a marqué particulièrement mais l'ambiance givre était là
Didn't connect lyrically with much of this but appreciated more musically. Pyramid was the best song lyrically and sonically with the greatest emotional impact.
A few songs are great.
It what I was expecting. Very mellow.
I'm surprised that this may be my favourite Radiohead album so far (or at least tracks 1-6 may be my favourite half a Radiohead record). Yes, it's whiney and pretentious, but it really leans in to its whineyness and pretentiousness, and creates a consistently gloomy feeling which is surprisingly appealing. Rating: 3.5/5 Playlist track: Knives Out Date listened: 03/01/24
3,5
While I can appreciate some of Radiohead's work and in fact like a number of their songs this album doesn't hit for me. There are 3 or 4 songs that I like on work but much of the rest of the songs seem like they should be on an outtake's album. They can be difficult to listen to and in a bit irritating. If nothing else this album is pushing me to listen to a few of their other works to see if they sit better than this one. Favorite Songs: I Might Be Wrong, Pyramid Song, Knifes Out, Life in a Glow House. 2.5 out of 5.
There a rich texture to this record, and some of the songs sound very modern. But the record can feel a little less impactful with their tendencies. And I can understand what all the rage was about with Radiohead back in the day. One of the only bands of the era who could claim the status of being both critically acclaimed and commercially successful. Songs like Pyramid Song and Life in a Glass House sound like they could have been released last week, but half of the record feels a little unremarkable. Fav tracks: Pyramid Song, You and Who’s Army?, I Might Be Wrong, Life in a Glass House
Sometimes I feel like a philistine when I see all the praise heaped on Radiohead. When the band hits, they really hit. But many other times, I just feel like I'm missing something. I just kind of fail to connect to what they're doing in the way I'm led to expect a lot of the time. While undeniably beautiful, this record unfortunately lands a little more in the forgettable category (no pun intended) for me. Despite the standouts, there's plenty of wheezy electronica and ponderous meandering kicking around this one that really starts to blend together for me. It's not a bad record by any means (I'd take this over Deep Purple any day), but not their strongest showing either, at least to me. Rating: 3.5/5 Favourite songs: I Might Be Wrong, Knives Out, Pyramid Song, Life in a Glass House
Interesting album. It feels old timey, psychedelic and experimental all at the same time. I'm not sure when I would sit down and listen to this to "enjoy". It feels like an album people say they love because it's cool to love something so different and alternative.
great album, honestly not my n1 of radiohead but it still great top songs ~ You and whose army? ~ Knives out ~ Like spinning plates ~ Life in a glasshouse
Don't think this is the best Radiohead album. Very trippy but after Knives out becomes abit too abstract for me to fully enjoy (maybe someone on crack will tell me otherwise). 3.5
Pretty chill but nothing that hooked me.
it’s an album!
Not in my edition of the book. 2001. 3 stars. Well done, but lacking standout tracks and strays dangerously into prog rock wankage. Not their best work by any means - who selected this for the 1001 albums list?
1. Packt - 4 2. Pyramid - 4 3. Pulk- 1 4. You and who's- 4 5. I might be wrong - 3 6. Knives out - 3 7. Morning bell /amnesiac- 3 8. Dollars and cents - 4 9. Hunting bears - 3 10. Like spinning plates - 4 11. Life in a glasshouse- 3 Experimental, but dope 3.27
I think that this album tries to create atmosphere. I just don't feel it at all.
I definitely owned the first four Radiohead albums but I think I realised their highs were incredible but had very little interest in the rest. Some of it is just background noise. The singles though are haunting and ethereal and truly great compositions. You can’t mistake a Radiohead song. I would be happy to give a 3.5… but this isn’t my fave.
As a Radiohead fan, this seems a pretentious bid by whomever decided to include the album to seem like they know something the rest of us don't. This is a middling album by a transformative band. I love that Radiohead is intentionally ambitious, but this doesn't rank among their best.
#63. I quite like Radiohead, but this particular album isn't their most interesting. 3/5: acceptable
Ask me if I’ve heard this album in a week and I will have no recollection if I have or haven’t.
Knives Out
Radiohead isn’t known for upbeat music, but I found this album particularly dour. However, I liked the New Orleans vibe of the last song.
I like some Radiohead, but don’t see myself listening to this much.
Tror stadig ikke rigtigt jeg “forstår” Radiohead. Måske er jeg hård her, men det er bare ikke noget jeg rigtigt ville lytte til
...is it called Amnesiac because they forgot to finish half the songs?
-i think i have already listened to a radiohead album as part of this list -excited to listen to another -i hate to keep saying this, but radiohead songs are very dull LMAO -these songs are definitely interesting but idk if its in a good way -you and whose army feels like the first real song of this album that is enjoyable to listen to -i might be wrong is so far my favorite on the album, i actually like it a lot -first couple of songs threw me because they were so meh but second half of the album is not actually that bad -overall its getting 3 stars
I listened to this album twice yesterday, back to back. I never listened to Radiohead when all the cool kids were. Amnesiac is not as memorable as OK Computer or even Kid A, but in the end, it's mostly more of the same, yeah? That being said, I did really enjoy the jazz on the final track.
This was my first experience with this album. It was really good. I wonder where Radiohead people put this in relation to their other albums.
ample uses of technology along with thom yorke’s signature warble. i know that his vocal delivery can come across as “lazy” and “off putting” to some, but to me it comes across as almost another instrument in the mix of sounds. his approach is not really meant to be sung along with.
I'm actually a pretty big fan of Radiohead. This album disappointed. There were a couple of good tracks, but it was far more repetitive than their normal stuff. Sad day.
Good album, but too experimental for me even though I’m a big fan of them. Favorites were Pyramid Song, Knives Out and You and Whose Army? 3/5
It's not the best work of Radiohead. It obviously has the overall theme of the band, but throughout the whole album I only got my ear closer to 1-2 songs. Especially the last one is different in a good way. 3.5/5.
I love radiohead. Every record is different, yet you still can hear its them. And everytime you listen to it you hear something new.
Fuck off 1100 albums. I was done at 1001
Paar goeie nummers en beats
I like it but it is not my favorite Radiohead album. Probably #5 or 6.
lite kul ibland. intressanta ljud
sämsta radiohead nånsin
Thanks, now I'm bummed out.
More melodic than I remember but still a bit droney
Cd
I love radiohead. It had some bangers, but didn't do it for me like a few of their other albums. Maybe i need to just give it another shot
listened to a different radiohead album
I have little to no experience with Radiohead, but I have heard that some melomaniacs hold them in pretty high regard. And there were a couple tracks on this list where that shone through. But altogether the album fell a little flat for me. Maybe it's out of my league, but my monkey-brain was thirsty for more rhythm somewhere in the album. To me, the songs tended to flow into each other in a way that made several of them indistinguishable, or maybe even unmemorable. Highlight: Life in a Glasshouse Lowlight: Pulk/Pull Revolving Doors Surprise Hit : Knives Out
Some parts of it were really nice, but overall it was kinda forgettable and it did not stand out with anything. But I will give it another listen.
Almost every Radiohead album I’ve heard has taken weeks, months, years to grow on me. I first listened to “Kid A” in about 2016, and wasn’t prepared to count it among my favourite albums until years later. “In Rainbows” didn’t live up to the hype for me when I first heard it four or so years ago, but when I reviewed it here I had to concede it was a five-star record. Even “The Bends”, which I always dismissed as “the album before things really got interesting”, is only just working its magic on me now. So, two weeks on from first hearing “Amnesiac”, I’m fully prepared to admit my opinion on it might change. But for now, it feels… relatively inessential. It’s 50% good-to-great Radiohead songs and 50% pretty transparent filler that didn’t make it onto the older sister album “Kid A”. I can’t quite buy the counter-argument that “Amnesiac” is on par with “Kid A” and people would have liked it more if it were released first. While it may have the same atmosphere, the same moody, glitchy electronics with a factory of twists and turns (exemplified in the muted, moody opening track), a lot of it smells suspiciously of filler. “Hunting Bears” is a couple of minutes of guitar licks. “Pulk/Pull Revolving Doors” is a throwaway exercise in electronics and distorted voice-over which disrupts the pace early on. We even end up with three minutes dedicated to a song also featured in “Kid A”, “Morning Bell”, in a drowsy, soporific arrangement which hardly does it any favours. Some of it, though, feels instantly essential. “Pyramid Song” is absolutely captivating, unwinding over a constantly shifting time signature I can’t quite work out across the course of the song. “You And Whose Army” shifts beautifully from hushed reprieve to epic climax. “I Might Be Wrong” is a surprisingly groovy, guitar-led track with some electronic flourishes. And it was wonderful to hear the brass section (used to stunning effect on Kid A’s “The National Anthem”) make a beguiling, idiosyncratic return in “Life in a Glasshouse”. Overall, “Amnesiac” is simply a good record from a band who have no excuse not to reach greatness. Here’s a wavering score which is more than likely to improve as the years go by.
- lots of interesting/weird sounds - in general I don’t like the moaning voice they use - songs don’t have a sense of direction/melody - usage of “boopy” technology sounds is cool - production is highlight I think, not many words - bpm is too low for me without other cool stuff going on - I did like pyramids song, and that it was sampled in let’s start here by yachty - it does just sound like b-sides from Kid A, which I don’t like either so - ok I admit there are at least a couple cool moments; trumpet and was cool - not enough for me to listen through the whole thing though
Pretty good 7/10
Radiohead has never really been my thing. They're a little too out there for me. This album was a fascinating listen though. Pyramid Song is great. All my favourite songs of theirs are on other albums though.
Not bad, but not their best
Intéressant
Forgettable
Somewhat sleepy for a no sleep title. I like their old stuff better than the newer stuff.
Kooky and inscrutable at times, though not as difficult to listen to as I recall. Still, I much prefer the earlier, more shallow but more melodic iteration of the band.
Meh, couple bangers, kinda boring.
I haven't heard this album in 10 years. First song is fine. Pyramid Song still spanks. Push/Pull Revolving Doors is more soundscape than song and feels like a reject from Kid A. You and Whose Army is a wonderfully weird song. I Might be Wrong is not my favorite song but I feel this song could realistically fit on any Radiohead album post-The Bends and would fit. I like the return of Radioheads heavy bass lines. Knives Out - Genuinely good song Morning Bell is the inferior version of the song. Dollars and Cents - Good but I do not and will not remember this song. Hunting Bears - Good soundscape Living in a Glass House - A solid end just feels like something is missing. I like this Radiohead album. It just feels like a 3/5 especially compared to all their other albums.
I really enjoyed pyramid song, you and whose army, knives out and life in a glass house but I would skip the rest
Rock, Radiohead-lyden, indie, stort lydunivers, lidt trist vibe
Before listening: not the biggest Radiohead fan but I’ll give it a try Definitely an odd album, great vocals, weird lyrics, and good tunes. Not my favorite, a little whiny but I think that’s the appeal. Whole album felt like living in a minor key, kinda cool but not my vibe. Top songs: Pyramid song Knives out Like spinning plates
Weird at first, but good Gets better as album goes on
ДА БЛЯТЬ ЕБАНЫЙ РОТ ГДЕ ПЕСНЯ КРИП СУКИ 7/10
Kallt, metalliskt, och ganska svårtuggat. Stor skillnad mot mildare The Bends. Bästa låt: Knives Out.
Decent Radiohead album. Not any memorable tracks. Was able to listen in one sitting very easily.
Not really resonated with me. Maybe there would be a time it would. The start of the album seemed more discordant than anything else, but then... I got to I Might Be Wrong. It picks up a bit, but really... The album feels more like someone's mind going through the day to day horrors of life. Recently I've experienced more horrors of life than I'd prefer. So maybe that is why it is bringing me down. It resonates with me, but not in a way I'd like. Like trying to play a song, but you get the wrong notes.
Interesting Album
Head before: yes I have a sneaking suspicion that if I were to listen to this 20 more times it might become my favorite R****head. As it is, I can say that I enjoyed it significantly more than when it first came out, and I thought it was just endless whining and wanking. It *is* endless whining and wanking, but there is significantly more depth than I gave it credit for, cool melodies, rhythms and ideas hidden in the loam. It helps to listen to it in the rain in London on a crisp day. Until that 20th listen though, this one is for the ‘Head heads. Top tracks: Pyramid Song, I Might Be Wrong, Life In A Glasshouse
it's alright, certainly not my favourite Radiohead album
It’s Radiohead, so you kinda know what you’re gonna get. Not bad, but nothing really stands out.
Definitely different
Solid radiohead album, with some bangers (pyramid song will always be one of my favs), would be a 3.5 stars
No
For me it's way too experimental, trying to combine different sounds and noises, it works, but for my taste I would listen once or twice in my lifetime
Reminds me of a dream - great finishing song in life in a glasshouse.
Not alone or sad enough to get into it today
it’s radiohead, it’s fine
sounds like depression and trippin balls
Seichter unaufgeregter Rock.
i've listened to this one previously. the first half or so is great, from packt like sardines to knives out. after knives out it is not very good, and not really worth bothering listening to. but that first stretch is good!
I like the mix of genres. It grows on me the more I listen to it, but right now I still don't fully understanding (or maybe I'm not in the right mood). I think I like it more than Kid A. Very interesting!
Tot molt literal: Llaunes —> enllaunada Piràmide —> Egipte Coherent i tal Molt hardware?? M’explico?
3.5. I've only listened to The Bends fully and a bit of Pablo Honey and A Moon Shaped Pool. I did quite enjoy The Bends but I haven't quite connected with their other material. This album is quite hit or miss.
nektery pisnicky docela fajn, ale overall nuda, asi jsem se na to v tu chvili necitil
Sorry, I'm not depressed and this music doesn't do it for me! Production was great... 3/5
idk
TIL there's a little drawing of a guy on this cover. I never saw it before but had it up on the PC Spotify and it was finally large enough to see. Mind blown 🤯. 3/5 music though
a really chill mellow radiohead album that I actually enjoyed
Good I guess.
Honestly was just ok. Mostly I just sat down the whole time thinking when will the album will be over. I would give this album a 3/5
This is more interesting than I was expecting it to be. I don't know more electronic. These guys have never done for me, but this was fine to listen to.
Today I will take issue with this being the fifth Radiohead album in this project. Over two-thirds the way through, I believe there are other artists I haven't heard from who deserve to be here more. This just didn't stand out. That said, this often had a very cool sound that I appreciated, like you were somewhere special late, late at night with the last folks at a party. It also sounds like no one on this album had slept in days, that they were absolutely weary and dreary and barely able to stand up. Thom Yorke's vocals, in fact, sound like he's already dead and his ghost is haunting the studio.
It’s alright. It’s mainly just beats and noises.Atmospheric.Pretty empty and kinda boring at some times.Thom yorks vocals are great as always but tbh I didn’t really dig this album that much.
Good. Not my thing.
starts off with some super interesting sounds on Packt in Like Sardines... this album is okay, a little depressing for my taste
Pretty good
3.1 just meh, it's still a good album overall but given it's radiohead i'm always expecting moree fave songs: knives out, you and whos army?
Ok
Boring. I’m indifferent to it.
Not the best of Radiohead
Feels like a proto-hail to the thief but a reaction to kid A
not sure about it as far as radiohead goes, songs were too long and nothing stood out to me amongst all the noise.
Not my favourite Radiohead album, too whiny.
I'm very glad that Radiohead decided to separate Kid A and Amnesiac instead of making a double album, because the net products are a great album, and this album. Amnesiac feels like a less whole album to me; it almost feels like session B-sides. There are some gems in here though, so it's not all that bad. But off the top of my head, it's easily in the bottom-3 of Radiohead albums.
Like it but not as much as Kid A.
Better than easy a, but still not for me. More diversity yet still experimental. I appreciate that there are more vocals
This is about the point where they lost me. I loved The Bends and OK Computer but after that they just got a little too downbeat and drony.
Not a huge Radiohead fan. Album was mediocre.
This was the point at which I started liking Radiohead's album covers more than the music. I miss the guitars. It's not even that this sounds bad and several moments draw me in, but this also puts me to sleep after a bit. I'm an old man and I require an old man's rock n roll. I Might Be Wrong, Knives Out, and Life in a Glasshouse are all standouts. It just ain't the experience I want going in.
first time listening favorite you and whose army? least favorite pulk/ pull revolving doors
This is what comes to my mind when I think about Radiohead, and unfortunately is the worst Radiohead album I got on the 1001 list (this is the sixth Radiohead album I got here). It's sad that, since they are a band I like, the "standard" song that comes to my mind is not their best work and instead is this one. This is a 2-star album with an extra point for the excellent jazzy last song.
Had er meer van verwacht. De leukste nummers zijn wel tof, maar het niet waard om door de nikszeggende onzinnummers te gaan. Misschien ben ik niet intelligent genoeg om het te waarderen. Ach
Not bad, but really does feel like Kid A rejects.
already listened to it. one of my lesser favourite radiohead albums but i don't dislike it
There were some nice tracks in here, but unfortunately there were a few too many that felt like just whininess on top of dissonance. It had potential but some of the artistic choices were just a bit over the top.
lite wonky och deppigt. experimentellt. gillar radiohead som rock men inte deras vibe. 3.2
Not my favorite Radiohead album.
Heard it before?: No Enjoy it?: It was ok, had a nice somber feel to it Favourite song: Track 2 - Pyramid Song
Helt okej.
3. Enjoyed this and would listen again but probably wouldn't buy.
Genres: Experimental rock, electronica, alternative rock Formed: Run time: 11 songs, 43 min, 57 sec All the tracks have at least 8M plays on Spotify, many have over 30M and “Pyramid Song” has over 60M plays. They have a very good following! This album is so depressing. I can’t imagine who the target audience are. If you weren’t down before listening, you would be by the end. If you were already depressed, it would tip you over the edge. I can see they aren’t afraid to experiment and they are blazing there own trail, which is commendable in a world of commercialised crap. It’s just not for me. My Rating: ***
Radiohead said that this album wasn’t leftovers from Kid A but I sure as hell sounds like leftovers from Kid A. It’s still Radiohead though, right?
Not great. I lost interest after their first couple of albums, never quite worked for me since.
For whatever reason, I never really got into any Radiohead albums after OK Computer (which I very much like). Amnesiac is fine, just whatever the thing was that "got me" with OK Computer wasn't quite there for me on this album. Maybe it needs several listens to "get it"?
While I do enjoy some songs of theirs, I am generally pretty indifferent to them. This wasn’t a bad album but I feel like it’s more atmospheric than anything, like something you’d have on in the background of a small group gathering where everyone is really high. 2.5/5, rounded up to 3/5.
meh
Didn't hate it. Trippy, relaxing. Vocals are weird.
3/5 A few good songs, the rest are just hard to get into. I think I've heard this album a dozen times and it still hasn't attached itself to me... I'll keep listening though because they do have other albums that I really like.
Good! Not a fan of some songs though.
Da e nåken gode sanga her, men går bra om eg ikkje har dei på repeat liksom
Interesting choice in that I think there's better Radiohead out there. Good, but not my favourite.
not bad
Pas mon préféré d'eux, je le trouve un peu snooze.
Det kræver nok en ekstra gennemlytning, hvis den skulle komme op på fire stjerner.
juzzyi and depressed mood ... so radiohead jvh'ubfnca`;udbxnaw;i.uf`kbnc'
A mixed bag. They mixed the good stuff in with the warbly stuff. Best track: Pyramid Song
Alright
It feels like this is the late to the party missing link between „OK Computer“ & „Kid A“. Some songs really are remarkable but as an album it doesn’t work for me. Especially since this list lacks so many other incredible masterpieces Radiohead‘s segue‘ish collection makes no sense to be featured here. 2.5
better than the first radio head album i listened to!
Idk, it's Radiohead. It's somber and crooning and I'm sure there's a depth there that I just don't really resonate with... but it's fine. 3.5
Very interesting stuff here. I Might Be Wrong is my favorite. A 3.5. It’s a bit too concept-y to round up (Life In A Glass House).
3.5
An entirely different album when listened to on headphones. I'll return to this. Maybe beginning to get the people who reckon Radiohead better after OK Computer are coming from at least.
Companion piece to Kid A and the resemblence is unmistakeable one can easily see that they are from them same sessions. Not as immediately bracing and engaging as Kid A. Less focused in approach so can't help but seem less groundbreaking and forward looking. It has some stellar moments, however; Pyramid Song, You and Whose Army, Knives Out, I Might Be Wrong and Morning Bell which is unexplicably on both Kid A and Amnesiac. But there are also pieces of 100% filler. Can't help but wonder how great an album we would have ended up with they had released just one all killer / no filler album from these sessions. Still a fine album that I was happy to discover 3.5 stars
Bästa låt: Pyramid song och You and whose army? Sämsta låt: -
Hade nog behövt lyssna en gång till, men det orkar jag inte.
Well this isn't my favourite Radiohead. I would say the weakest of the albums around that time that I absolutely love. Feel like this one is more reflective of Thom Yorke's solo stuff. I did enjoy most of it but it left me unmoved compared to albums like Pablo Honey
Album is oj. Will listen again. Packt Like Sardines in a Crushd Tin Box is my favorite.
Their musicality and intelligence in songwriting is always apparent, but they simply fail to create something that just doesn’t sound boring.
Ultimately just a very boring album with no real highlights
Mid
This always felt experimental by them
I’ll be honest, I’m not a huge Radiohead fan. I’ve heard OK Computer and In Rainbows, and while I appreciate them for their talent and creativity, it isn’t something that speaks to me. Not to say this doesn’t have its moments, however. I loved the more atmospheric tracks in the back end. The title track is euphoric, and Hunting Bears tells a lot in its simplicity. The moments I don’t dig as much are the harder hitters; Yorke’s vocals are quite grating on the opening track, for one. The ending tracks feel flat, too, which was a note I had for the whole album but it became prominent at the end. Still, I don’t regret listening to this. Some of my favorite Radiohead tracks land on this project, which is why I rate it above average. It’s just a bit of a slog to get there.
2.5ish stars. Personally, I think Radiohead has a sweet spot between modern rock and postmodern experimental... this is over the experimental line for me.
I’m a bit over Radiohead. It’s one of those albums where the algorithmically generated album started automatically playing and I didn’t notice. It’s good but it’s nothing special
honestly this is disappointing for radiohead. still totally fine, but i expect more from them
With this record, it felt like Radiohead was continuing a trend starting from the brilliant Kid-A to make themselves more unrecognizeable musically following the massive critical and commercial success of Ok Computer. Applaud their artistic ambition at the time, and there are moments here to be sure (Pyramid Song, I Might Be Wrong) but the band really make some left turns and it doesn't always resonate. Sometimes it sounds plain weird. In the end they probably had to go through these few series of records to get to the other side towards some of their later fine and mature work.
Not as listenable as Kid A.
A lot of ambient noise.
Forgettable.
forgettable
Never listened to Radiohead. Quite interesting, but lacks a bit of cohesion. Weak start for me, feels like it just got interesting with the three last songs.
Radiohead just never does it for me. I do t understand why. I love every band in their genre, but it hasn’t clicked for Radiohead…. I understand the praise for the productions
Ok
A little too experimental to my opinion. I like the overall sound of Radiohead
Pretty good album. Gets a bit whiny sometimes tho. 3,5/5
Amnesiac was a really good album, I didn't understand how it could be finished when it stoped playing. Maybe not my everyday go to genre but definitely something I am into and would like to listen to again.
Will listen again
Impressive, nothing that really caught my attention for long though. Will listen again
Not my favorite work of Radiohead, a bit too experimental for my taste but that's not to say it wasn't somewhat enjoyable. It just feels as if they dived too deep without being prepared for it.
this one was a surprise. I always assumed Radiohead was more radio-friendly pop sutff, but this album kinda came out of left field. very weird, very interesting. I enjoyed it
I really liked this Coldplay album... much more experimental than their other stuff! (jk @Ted!) This album is really good (3.5 stars?) but won't be a multiple-play repeat for me.
This album is really overrated to be completely honest, yeah I like Radiohead they’re probably in my top 10 favourite bands but this isn’t much special in my opinion. Other than a few highlights it’s one of Radiohead’s worst albums to be completely honest (it’s worse than Pablo Honey) … You’ve got packt like sardines in a crushd tin box which is really boring and monotone than pyramid song which is good but might as well be the most overrated Radiohead song amongst the fanbase. Pulk/ pull revolving doors must be a joke, honestly how could an album with this song have fairly positive critical reception? The album does admittedly improve though after these first three, you and whose army is great emotional spiralling builder that forms into insanity towards the end, then while I’am not too sure on his singing on this track I might be wrong is a cool little rock tune, Knives out is one of late career Radiohead’s best songs it’s absolutely amazing for every second of it’s runtime and (while I know i’am in the minority) I much prefer the amnesiac version of morning bell. Then it slumps again with Dollars and cents the most forgettable song in Radiohead’s career and hunting bears which is admittedly a cool instrumental but I would’ve preferred it to just be one minute instead of two. Luckily this rather unbalanced album is saved by it’s last two songs, like spinning plates is the most interesting track on the album featuring reversed vocals (even if the song is only one verse long) then jazzy closer life in a glasshouse might as well be my favourite Radiohead closer it’s an amazing left turn to end the kid a and amnesiac duo of albums. It’s a rollercoaster of an album but I really like the best moments a 3/5.
Can’t say this isn’t a good album, but I tend to by pass it when listening to Radiohead’s discography. Not sure it can ever get out of Kid A’s shadow. Deserves to be on the list, but I would rank it behind, Kid A, In Rainbows, OK computer and even the bends. Maybe my fault for not giving it as much time as the other albums.
Good one.
I can't say I've ever really enjoyed this album. Because I was such a fan of The Bends and OK Computer, it bummed me out when they "evolved" their sound and direction as a band. I came to accept and enjoy it by the time they released In Rainbows, but honestly never got back into Amnesiac. While they are undoubtedly all ridiculously talented musicians, I still find this album pretty uninspiring.
No bad, prefer Ok computer by knives out is a great track
We are never going to be friends, Amnesiac and I.
I don't know why but I find this entire album really unsettling, the way they play with dissonance and tension is somewhat unnerving to me, really interesting album but not something I would listen to a lot
Radiohead is an acquired tasted I haven’t acquired yet. The first album of theirs I’ve properly listened to all the way through and it more or less confirmed to the ideas I had it my head. Tense, nervy atmosphere with Thom Yorke’s painful wince over the top of it. There’s a lot to like about this formula, but it just starts dragging after a while. Amnesiac was a perplexing listen for me, and I want to give it its due for obscuring the boundaries of what pop/rock music should be. That doesn’t make it an entirely gripping listen though, and I felt this was just a little too stale after a while. “Knives Out” was probably my favourite track, and it’s not really surprising that it’s the most conventional in structure on the whole album. Not quite sure what to make of Radiohead but no doubt they’ll reappear on this list.
Not bad but I would have to be in a certain 'mood' to fully enjoy
Very difficult to grasp hold of, to understand the message or to relate to the mood. Creative, absolutely. Intriguing - I’ll give it that. Perhaps a piece of music to understand on further listens? Maybe. But where to listen? Kitchen, car, commute? Working? Playing? Relaxing (LOL)? How does such music fit your life?
Good
Not my favorite of radioheads
I’ve been dreading Radiohead coming up on this, and I know there’s a few of their albums on here. I’ve never, like, plunged into their archives for a comprehensive study, but I’ve given them an honest shot many times, and aside from parts of In Rainbows, I really dislike what they do. And this is frustrating to me, since I know a lot of people who really like them; like with country music I can just write it off as alien tastes, but these are people whose tastes I otherwise align with! I just walk away from the music feeling sad or annoyed, what am I missing?!
La même soupe expérimentale pour Radiohead qui rechigne toujours à nous proposer un quelconque morceau réécoutable.
Best Song: Life in a Glasshouse. The jazz brass instrumentals really helped ground the music, and served as a good background for the vocals. Maybe Radiohead really ought to be a jazz band. Worst Song: Pulk/Pull Revolving Doors. I actually quite liked the bassy instrumentals, but the real experimental vocals did nothing for me. Overall: As technically competent and musically experimental Radiohead might be, I'm always left feeling like I've listened to an album with absolutely no soul. Like music written by a melancholic AI.
Never heard of this album before this listen
Indie rock. Un poco tostón. Ni fu ni fa.
Not my usual genre of music and bit out there but still very good and well put together. After reading into the piece’s history I might yet give kid A, a listen
Radiohead is always a treat to listen to. This album was quite experimental (as always) and trippy and cool. I’m definitely glad I listened to it but I don’t think I care to return to this specific album
more dark spooky indie fog from one of the best to do it. a bit more ponderous atmospheric downtempo. not my favorite work of theirs...
Some songs a little to slow but I liked the spacey vibe of others
Sounds a bit like a soundtrack for a movie or a game. Not too bad, but also not very remarkable.
It has a few classics but as an album it doesn't hold keep my attention the whole way through. 3.5/5
bed, argh, bleh
Was good
great voice. can hear the influences they had in many other bands. Kind of a lull though. Nothing super memorable or impactful.
I was clicking around to start to play this album and I mistakenly played the first 1/2 hr of their In Rainbows album. That's a mighty fine album. Then I started to listen to Amnesiac. Radiohead's music grows on you. Their songs are frequently more enjoyable the second or third time they are listened to. By the same token, I think Amnesiac was more enjoyable since I got primed with 30 min of In Rainbows. Still not sure I can get to a 4 on this. But I will have a 4 for In Rainbows!
What a trippy and slick electronica. It's too interesting to be compared to an elevator music. It's quite fun and great in some places. A hit and miss. But that's the point of experimental rock right? I knew it's the "sibling" of their beloved album, "Kid A", but personally, it doesn't have the "outtakes" vibe. It's an album on its own, and a slightly boring one.
Solid album but I can definitely see why Kid A gets all the attention. Amnesiac is good in it’s own way, but it lacks punch and tends to meander at times.
Life in a Glasshouse- fab. Really liked this track.
This was a pretty challenging listen and not super rewarding. 6/10
Rock un tanto psicodélico con buena voz, melodías un tanto raras y un estilo un tanto extraño
Low three.
Þessi er ágæt. Ábyggilega fín til að hafa í bakgrunni við lærdóm.
Mummbly nasaly York croons over lush backing music. Not bad.
Radiohead is quite experimental on this album; everything has an ethereal feeling about it that is quite entrancing. The tracks on this album was incredibly cohesive; they went together and felt like one big piece of art. That is to say, even their experimental work seems very themed and works well when put together. Still, while the theme and the album cohesion seems spot on, I still found this album to be a little bit improvisational and drawn out. This album was definitely a fascinating listen, but I wouldn't call it a favorite.
Hoewel ik een groot bewonderaar van Radiohead ben, blijf ik dit een moeilijk album vinden. Er staan echt een aantal parels op, maar ook veel weirde dingen waar ik niet zoveel mee kan. 3 sterren dus.
not as good as their other stuff very reminiscent of it though
Not big on Radiohead
Nearly gave a 1 after first few tracks
Good album, I liked the end more then the beginning. Another thing you can put on and chill while having dinner with friends
Seems like they're trying to do a bit much with this one. Ok but not great.
Starts off great. Love the feel of PLSIACTB. Not the Radiohead I'm used to. Mixed with some stuff I am used to. I dig the experimental shit.
It’s no Kid A, but it’s also still good.
Some great tracks, but not one of their great albums
Amnesiac is the fifth album by English rock band Radiohead. The album is highly acclaimed and is certified platinum in the UK and US. Musically, it has the same vibes as the band's previous album Kid A, so electronica, jazz, and krautrock influences are included along with the band's signature alternative rock. This further divided fans along whether you preferred this new style of music, or the band's earlier straight forward rock music. I was left conflicted about this album because I have liked every previous Radiohead album. It's similar to Kid A, but some songs don't feel flushed out - almost like they were thrown together last minute or even that they were unwanted songs from Kid A that didn't get much additional care. The patchiness of the album almost took away from the highlights, but I still think this is a great album from Radiohead.
2.0 Almost good, or at least okay. Not a fan of the singer' voice, if it was better I might like Radiohead. Oh well.
Meh?
A Radiohead album, but that doesn't mean it's good. While it has really good songs like "Pyramid Song", "Knives Out" and "Life in a Glasshouse", there were times on the rest of this album where I was like "what the hell am I listening to?". The best example for this is the third song, like genuinely, what the fuck is that song, it's boring and the vocals are awful. Anyway, this wasn't the greatest listening experience, surely one of their worst projects, if not the worst.
Sad, depressive-ish.
I'm glad the other reviews aren't just full of people who think anything Radiohead makes is gold. My second Raidiohead album. My first was In Rainbows which I was highly disappointed with given all the hype around it. This time around my expectations were lower, but I still liked it less than In Rainbows. I just can't get into Radiohead. The songs I do like by them come from the earlier albums, so maybe there is still a chance for them to click for me. Favorite Track - Hunting Bears Least Favorite Track - Morning Bell/Amnesia ⭐️⭐️
This is the third or fourth album by this band on this list - talk about over-tepresented. It offers the same as the others - mediocre music, bland writing and atrocious vocals.
Kid A was a complete world. Amnesiac is what didn't fit in it — the offcuts from the same sessions, reassembled into an album. Some of it is interesting. None of it hits the same way. 2/5 — Kid A's shadow is a hard place to stand.
Makes me want to go lie down in my bed and cry. Not exactly a quality I'm looking for in music. As in Kid A, I like some of the sounds (here, especially "I Might Be Wrong"), but wouldn't listen to this ever again. I'll politely say: Please go whine into somebody else's ears, Thom Yorke. 1.5/5 - weak
Veldig fin musikk, ikke min stil. Blei fort bakgrunnsmusikk.
I am certain that I am not a Radiohead fan and never will be.
I'm a bit surprised that this album is included on this site, my understanding of it is that it's the b-sides of "KID A" an album I love, probably my favorite RH record. And while perhaps its unfair to judge an album as anything but an individual experience, so many of these songs feel like less complete versions of songs on "KID A." To use the most popular song off this album as an example, "Pyramid Song" feels like "How to Disappear Completely" part 2. It places in a more critical mood than I'm used to when it comes to listening to music, and as I am now in said mood, lemme spit my shit. This might be the worst that Thom Yorke has sounded an album, which lemme be clear, he is one of my favorite rock singers. Nearly every performance feels dejected, a tone that isn't inherently bad, but one that can sound so mfing sleepy when it's not fully committed to. Like, pleaaase listen to this version of "Morning Bell" and tell me that he's trying. There are also multiple attempts at making their version of a trip-hop song that never fully click. And why is "Hunting Bears" on this album, it sounds like an attempt to start a Funkadelic song but anytime they keep practicing the first bar of the solo over and over. Okay, and I know I just talked so much shit, but I don't think this is a bad album, maybe just a bad Radiohead album. I do like "Pyramid Song" and "You and Whose Army" though. 2/5
Good album.
All of these songs sound the same. And they sound the same as basically every other Radiohead song I've heard released this century. Sell paranoia someplace else, we're all stocked up here.
It is entirely possible that I need to give this another listen, but I found this incredibly dull. Sorry, Radiohead, not today.
Dear God is this tedious, the opposite of a "treasure trove of delights" promised by the 1,001 book. I don't think I've listened to Amnesiac since it came out, and now I remember why. I like "Packt Like Sardines in a Crushd Tin Box," but little else on here lands, and "Pulk/Pull Revolving Doors" veers into Radiohead parody/caricature. I can get with bleakness if there's something behind it, but Amnesiac's icy remove is almost totally bloodless. And boring.
Never was super into them
Incredibly boring
I didn’t like this one. I really don’t like the main singers voice
doidera mas não doidera 🤩 e sim doidera 🤨
I like weird. And I like Radiohead. But I didn’t like this.
no me gustó la verdad. Me esperaba otra cosa. Me quedé muy manija con The Bends y los otros dos discos de Radiohead que escuché no me llegaron. Es muy experimental este, nose que onda. No me llegó la verdad
I like Radiohead (OK Computer) but not a fan of this album. Too dreary and angsty for me.
I'm stealing a comment I saw on another radiohead album, but I feel it's valid. How are there so many radiohead albums on this list and yet not one single Tool album!? I might be wrong is a banging tune though
Barely remember any of it and didn't really enjoy. Not my thing unfortunately!
Very slow, soft, and psychedelic which I can withstand but it did leave me yearning for more contrast. Instrumentally heavy at times.
i gotta just accept i’m not a radiohead person
Too slow for me
idk para pensar señores.
hmmm i've been really into radiohead lately . but not listened to this one ..!!! ok kinda boring. ..
2/5 - This one didn't age well for me. Haven't visited this in 20 years, and I think that was the right move.
Jeepers creepers, cheer up. Dirge after Dirge.
I really, really want to "get" Radiohead, but so far that's not happening. While this album is at times nice to listen to, I found most of the tracks to be boring and incohesive. Honestly, the whole album just felt like a collection of B-sides.
I gave this a 2* last time I had it come up, and that still holds. Slow stoner music, and the extra effects also made the lyrics difficult to pick out to find a redeeming quality.
No wonder this album never hit my radar. Started out great but by the end it was soooo draggy. I guess I'll average and give it a 2! Eff it!
Late night sad boy musics. Not as great in the middle of the day and you don’t want to feel in a doldrum.
Naur
I don't mind music that's more on the experimental side but you gotta make it somewhat engaging to listen to at the very least. I just found myself forgetting these songs as soon as they ended, and not to mention his vocals just did nothing for me either. It had its moments here and there but it just wasn't it. Still not a 1 though cause I'd rather listen to this any day of the week than some of the other albums from this list that I've listened to. 2/5
I didn’t recall why I never listened to this one much. Not my favorite by them
it sounds experimental but they never found the sound that clicked so they just threw all the practice songs on the album anyway
There's times where i get it, and times I definitely don't get it. Pyramid Song would be my limit on liking something that's a bit more off kilter, and Knives Out was good. Knowing some other Radiohead hits i might like another album a little more but probably not by a lot.
I still don't get Radiohead. The music is OK to listen to in the background, but it just doesn't resonate with me on any notable level. My apologies to any Radiohead fans that read this—just speaking from my heart. ★★
Half-baked in the guise of “experimental”. Composition sounds forced. Reminds me of Sondheim. Clearly, this album was very influential on subsequent artists (picking up major Alt J)
Not my tempo.
slow, lay on floor, dark room, slow breathing
3/10
I need to listen to more radiohead as this is 01 with all the sounds industrial tecno were using in uk back in the 80/90, not revolutionary at all, more like a boring prick just to late to the party
Strange and interesting album with few beautiful songs and many that I just didn't get into or understand. Best track was Pyramid Song.
This is weird. This is hard for my brain to listen to. Very experimental. Electronic music is not my cup of tea but I do appreciate the amount of work that would have gone into an album like this. There were only 2 songs that I would probably listen to again. I felt like I was losing my mind
2.5 Not for me. Liked/s: Knives Out, Pyramid Song
It was good, It didn't catch me completely, since the sounds are ambient-like, and more in line with the flow of the albums, not my favorite but I appreciate a few of them.
nice but dark
I'll take "music I refuse to understand or appreciate" for $1,000, Alex!
This is your free pass, reader. You do not need to listen to Amnesiac before you die. I don't believe there is any universe outside of the one we live in where Amnesiac must be heard before death. There are good songs on the album, but 80% of this record is musical backwash--outtakes and rehashes from Kid A (of which I'm not a big fan anyway, but that's another story.) Life in a Glasshouse is a beautiful, unique piece of work, and Pyramid Song is a must-hear across their entire discography. But the majority of the album is sonic experiments that don't deserve to be fleshed out into full songs. They don't even try to flesh out Hunting Bears! When compared to Kid A, which it must be given the context in their discography, Amnesiac has the lesser version of Morning Bell, the lesser guitar interlude...it even has two songs that sound essentially the same. I am a Radiohead fan, and I don't have it in me to hate this album completely, but I have to give it this score to just let this site know. It does not need to be here. You do not need to hear this before you die, you don't need to hear this at all.
Noise machine. 2/5
Not a massive fan
not a fun of Radiohead, guess it's a fine listen, but I just can't force myself to like any of it
This album makes me concerned for Thom Yorke. Like, is the poor guy ok? He sounds like he's just been shot up with Novocain before walking into the studio to record. Then the combination of music, album cover art, and lyrics on this album make me feel like I'm trapped in dystopian pit of despair (and not in a cathartic, good good way.) The first time I tried to listen to this, I had to turn it off and walk away from the computer. I really disliked it. I had to come back several hours later with a fresh mind in order to give it another fair shot. Now I really borderline hate it? It took my full attention to get through the whole thing in one sitting. My hope is that there are better Radiohead albums on this list because this one is for the bin, not The 1001 list. If someone can please explain what I'm missing about this album being "so good", please do. I don't see why anyone would put this album on the Top ### lists or give it all the awards it's received. I lived through the 2000s and I didn't see it to be worthwhile then. It's 2026, I don't think it's worthwhile now. Album's saving grace: "Life In a Glasshouse" 🎺
😐 gotta be in the mood
Not a fan of the band, but album is not the worst.
Meh. Kind of too depressing for me.
tempo isn’t what I usually go for.
I'd never heard this one before. I'm afraid it marks the point where I finally give up trying to appreciate Radiohead's post-OK Computer albums. I couldn't honestly pick out anything to distinguish this from Kid A or Half to the Thief. Every song feels like the same tempo, the same mood, the same musical style. I enjoy a lot of dark and melancholy music, but I can't understand how anyone can listen to this funereal meandering for pleasure.
O how the mighty have fallen..... I was a Radiohead fan back in the 90s, not really heard this album if I did i had instantly forgotten it. Knives Out is the only interesting song on here, very Paranoid Android-ish.
Fine
These sound like unfinished songs or just dicking around. It was heading for a one but a few tracks in the middle save it. It's quite awful. Maybe I know nothing. Who knows. Who cares
I don't have much to say about this album. It didn't make much of an impression. It was just sound. I didn't hate it, but it's not my jam.
