Reviews (page 9 of 13)
Fine, I guess.
If you appreciated "Kid A", you are likely to enjoy "Amnesiac". Similar to my review of "Kid A", "Amnesiac" features subtle and complex instrumentation, with numerous tracks lacking traditional hooks or ABABCB structure, focusing instead on the exploration of sound and musical composition. While both albums can be viewed as related, "Amnesiac" distinguishes itself with more mainstream-friendly melodies, reduced electronic elements, and a lesser degree of dissonance. "Amnesiac" is also not as demanding to listen to, although I question whether my perspective would be the same had I not spent time listening to "Kid A" first. While both albums are strong, "Amnesiac" surpasses "Kid A" in terms of quality and accessibility, though they both may not appeal to everyone. A better introduction to Radiohead would be "The Bends", which is arguably their finest work.
Pyramid Song is a personal favourite from Radiohead, it has Everything In Its Right Place vibes. You and Whose Army? is another track that sticks with me. As an album, I would happily put it on, but those two tracks are what I would go back to most.
Bit too pretentious for me
Largely forgettable, with a few standout tracks. Feels like a collection of throwaways from Kid A that didn't make it. On the whole, it's just decent.
Ooft
good
Definitely Radiohead's most inconsistent album, but the best moments still make it worth your time overall. This has some of their weirdest and most out there moments, and I think that's what overall makes it one of their lesser albums, with those moments not really fitting in all that well, and some even being a bit too experimental and sounding weird alongside the much more tame songs. But at the end of the day it's still a Radiohead album, it still has Thom Yorke's amazing voice, and it still has Pyramid Song which is easily an all time favourite Radiohead song for me.
Obv not their best but still got some tunes
Done
Honestly - not sure. Radiohead are great and all, but a lot of the songs in this felt a bit too experimental at times. I can feel some of the tones that come out of this, especially a twist of Jazz: Life in a Greenhouse in particular. I’m sure Kid A overshadowed this album, released a year earlier. Down the middle(ish), 5.8/10.
Trying to be unbiased here because I love Radiohead, but it's safe to say, this is not their strongest release. It has a strong middle segment with You And Whose Army?, I Might Be Wrong, and Knives Out, but the rest is just a bit... wailing and nothingy.
I really adore Kid A, this feels like the leftover tracks from that record that really didn't need to be released on an album, maybe just release each Kid A track with a B-side? Still better than most albums on this list but not Radiohead's best work.
came into this with the thought of my radiohead fans that this isn't a good album, and whilst yeah, pulk / pull revolving doors is on there... there are a bunch of cool tracks on there. interesting album inbetween some greats.
Honestly, the way that Yorke sings and the music that is played behind it fit well. Just a bit of an atmospheric sound that floats around in your mind. Not a bad album, but some of Radiohead's other, more grounded albums are better than this.
First two tracks were chill vibes, third track is crunchy. Second to last was backwards. Ended with some good horns and vocals. Overall very flowy album, probably wouldn't listen to it again.
Not my fav Radoohead album but better than others I've heard on this list..
This is a good follow up to Kid A, but lacks the same tight direction of previous and subsequent albums. It feels a bit cobbled together with some bright spots. Solid Radiohead album, but not up to their usual standards.
Meh
вроде бы интересная но не моё (6/10) Вторая песня (Pyramid Song) более цепляющая (7/10) Третья песня (Pulk/Pull Revoling Doors) вообще что-то странное (2/10) Четр Четвертая песня (You And Whose Army?) (Life in a Glass House)
Solid outing but not my favorite radiohead album. Listenable though and better than initially gave it credit for upon this revisit
Mñeh.
Came on a day when I was viciously defending Radiohead to a person that slighted their fanbase. That being said, some of their stuff is wildly out there and very dissonant. Good album, but not In Rainbows. 5/10
Calm, different. Probably not something I’d listen to a lot
Liked it better than I though I would.
Amnesiac is the fourth Radiohead album I’ve listened too and it’s the worst so far. It wasn’t that bad but there’s nothing that blows my mind just good songs ig. Radiohead trying to be experimental again with the mix of electronic, rock and even jazz made some rly good songs and some pretty mid ones too. Overrall it was pretty good but nothing crazy so a solid 7.6/10 3.8/5
tbh I had no idea that Radiohead sounded like this
meow really good
You And Who’s Army is one of my favourite Radiohead songs but overall not my favourite Radiohead album. Kudos for continually evolving though.
Very esoteric. Kinda boring. Typical Radiohead. Morning Bell sounded better in 5/4. Life In a Glasshouse is probably my favourite but that’s due to Jazz elements.
Can appreciate the complexity of the arrangements but his voice just depresses me in a way that I don’t want to be.
This is my first Radiohead album from this list but I'm guessing there's a good 3-5 Radiohead albums in total just based on how biased this list has been so far towards angsty white boy rock. (I just checked and there are SIX radiohead albums on this list.) I do not need to hear this much radiohead before I die, there is so much variety out there. This list is crap. I do like the arrangement of strings and almost jazz-like percussion in Pyramid song. Pulk/pull Revolving Doors has some cool synthd sounds on it but I've been spoiled by the variety of other experimental synth bands out there and this is boring by comparison. You and Whose Army as well as Life in a Glasshouse are both shadows of Neutral Milk Hotel (who somehow did not make it to this 1001 list, despite their massive influence on indie sound as a whole, and clearly Radiohead). with all the love in the world Thom Yorke sounds the same on every track (including in his Smile stuff). I actually really like the chord progression in it but Morning Bell/Amnesiac sounds like a dozen other Radiohead songs, so I skipped it halfway through. Love the synth on Spinning Plates. Overall this album did stand out in a small but importnat (for me) way from other Radiohead albums - the percussion had lots of clear jazz influences. Would love to see the band pull more on that thread. Also even though they are playing from the Neutral Milk Hotel fake book, I do love that NMH sound so I enjoyed those bits of dissonant horns and wailing crackly half step melodies on this album. Yes I'm being harder on radiohead than I am for other bands on this list, because if you're going to take up 6/1001 spaces, you'd better deserve it. Queen is arguably both more influential and musically far superior and interesting, and they only have 3 albums on the list. Not impressed, Radiohead.
Sorry I didn’t love this more, Joe!
Not the biggest Radiohead fan, particularly privvy only to The Bends. But, Thom and the boys seem to capture the mental anguish and deterioration of a person in a semi permenant state of amnesia. Dulcet, confusing, abstract, abrupt, and haunting. Again as a typical hater of this band, there's not much for me here. But artistically and from a critical listening perspective this album is a good one.
As usual, it seems like Radiohead recycles all of the avant-garde music ideas of the past to put together really discombobulating records with not so many memorable moments. Nevertheless, I must highlight the melancholy 'Pyramid Song' for praise—this song has the grand air of a great jazz ballad, and its intriguing time-signature shifts always tickle my interest.
I expected more from Radiohead, given their reputation. Just a whole lot of mid
3* 76%
Another Radiohead? Alright that's fine. This one I actually listened to a lot at the time (I have vivid memories of listening to it while playing way too much Civ III when I should have been doing high school homework). Not one I come back to all that often anymore though; it really does come off as a bunch of leftovers from the Kid A sessions which I believe it more or less is. Funny thing is that I didn't really listen to Kid A until years later, go figure. Still like that one better though this is just fine though a bit uneven.
Yeah, that’s Radiohead alright. Think I liked this one a little less than the others I’ve heard.
Not their best
Not their best album in my opinion, still very good though.
I enjoyed this. It was much better than the previous ones I listened to here.
If I have a choice it will almost always be Kid A over Amnesiac. Upon listening again it is still interesting a very brave album.
This is an interesting record in Radioheads discography. As a big Radiohead fan I must say I think it's mostly lovely. Not as good as the ones that came before and after it, but unique nonetheless. I enjoy the jazz esthetics that shine now and then, and thom adds some great moments to the incredible Radiohead songbook. 2, 4 6, 8, 11 are among the highlights.
Not my favorite album by Radiohead
Always love some Radiohead.
A bit too meandering but has some good rock moments
I think the members of this band are true artists and possibly geniuses. That said, I can’t imagine what state of mind I would have to be in to willingly put this album on.
yep
první celý album co poslouchám od radiohead
Meglio di altri dai.
I liked pyramid song and thought that was really unique but I still don’t understand the rest of their songs!
Why is there so much Radiohead on this list? This album is better than the others so far but it’s still pretentious.
The vibe of this one was like negative..
weird but good, but not something i would go back to very often
The Bends is a better album
I liked 3 or 4 tracks, but the rest weren't really my style. I've liked radiohead from before but this also gave me an insight into their other music. I'll definitely listen to a few of the tracks again.
Some moments I really loved and some moments I could not stand.
Not my favorite Radiohead album, but some good stuff on it.
Not bad, but nowhere near their best work. Thom got too caught up in making interesting sounds that it seems he forgot to make art that audiences could connect with. My girlfriend said that to me and I 100% agree. It’s still experimental like all of their work is, but this time way more alienating to the listener. Very little to latch on to. Wasn’t a chore to listen to though, so maybe someday I’ll try again. 3/5
Not one of my favorites by them. But still a classic.
the title is very appropriate since it made me forget that i mostly like radiohead
Probably the worst radiohead album ive listened to (not listened to king of limbs). Doesn't mean its bad but I think the rock ish songs which could be on hail to the thief are the best ones, and the kid A electronic ones are all a bit bad. Favourite songs: Pyramid song, Pulk/pull revolving doors, You and whose army?, knives out. Overall around 6/10
Sleepy.
There was probably a time when I would have enjoyed Radiohead more
Tbh this album felt like I was being edged by the intro of a Linkin Park Song. I wasn’t mad about it, until he started saying “cut the kids in half.” Not as much of a downer as I thought it would be though.
A few I really liked in here but probably wont be on super high rotation!
I had never heard this album and was surprised by the tone of the whole thing. I need more time with it to let it reveal itself but I’ll give it a 3 with the understanding that it could be a 5 within a couple of months.
I can't seem to get into Radiohead I don't understand them to me they sound pretentious there's some good tracks off of this but nothing that wowed me I must have missed the era or I must be missing something for them to be so generally liked
I've turned a corner on Radiohead since starting listening to albums off this list - and I can appreciate the dark moody electronica being presented here despite Thom Yorke's whiny vocals over it. Definitely not the highest rating I'll give to their work, but there's definitely some high points here. ALSO, having listened to Pull/Pull for the first time here, how on earth was that considered a viable single to release??
Not my favorite radiohead album
This, like much of their output, is not immediately accessible. There is plenty in there but I doubt that I want to invest the time to unlock the mysteries. Middling as it will stand, not rubbish but also far from outstanding.
Sometimes hard to listen to, sometimes nostalgia for a more emotional time.
Verrryy vibey radiohead record with a lot of good songs and also a lot of random shenanigans. Loved the atmosphere though and how the songs varied Fav Songs: I Might Be Wrong, Knives Out
I like Radiohead, mostly 90s stuff. I didn't really know this album. Nothing stood out too much, a bit samey.
Good album. Doesnt hit me like the rest of Radiohead's discography, but thats not saying much. Best 3/5 you'll ever listen to.
I don't buy that they "planned" two albums worth of material in the Kid A sessions. These songs did not make the cut for Kid A and that is how they sound. Same atmosphere, no substance. After "OK Computer" and "Kid A", they knew we'd buy anything. Doesn't belong on this list, but also not the worst thing on this list!
never been a fan of radiohead. bro moans too much
cool
Not really my bag. Kind of made me anxious. 3.5 stars
No denying the technical prowess and wide array of instruments used in this one. His voice is better in this one than most others, but still a bit whiny. Overall I think Radiohead is "good", I just don't think it's my personal jam.
Packt Like Sardines in a Crushd Tin Box 2.8 Pyramid Song 3.2 Pulk/Pull Revolving Doors 2.4 You and Whoose Army? 3.1 I Might Be Wrong 3 Knives Out 3.4 Morning Bell/Amnesiac 3 Dollars and Cents 3.3 Hunting Bears 3 Like Spinning Plates 2.6 Life in a Glasshouse 3 Score: 2.981818182
I wanted to like this but the first couple of songs weren't for me. It started getting good from "You and Whose Army?" but not great. The album overall felt incomplete. I think a couple of songs will grow on me with time.
It seems I remembered this more fondly than I actually appreciated it. I thought I liked it a lot but now it just feels like the leftovers of Kid A. Maybe I did actually like it more a couple of years ago but then again the fact that I didn't relisten to it a lot or often is probably indicative of my never being fully taken with it. Packt (opening track), You and Whose Army?, I Might Be Wrong and Life In a Glasshouse are all great, but the rest I pretty much could do without. (Pyramid Song and Knives Out are also decent, but just sound so generically Radioheady.)
Tienen mejores 3.5/5
Probably a bit generous
All over the place Radiohead times. Somber, catchy, weird, etc.
Mostly boring but just quirky enough to be fun. Amazed at their popularity
Okayish
Kind of forgettable
messy
No question a disappointing follow up to Kid A. Leans too much into the industrial/outer space beep boops but it has its moments (not coincidentally it’s when they play their instruments)
not my fave album of theirs but i always appreciate the effort
There was another Radiohead album? One of them must have been removed since I thought they were only 4. Anyway my stance on Radiohead hasn't changed since I began this: they are boring and uninteresting. This album was fine. It's okay. Nothing special. Kinda dull. At least it was a smidge over 40 minutes which is a plus.
Actually liked it. Pretty indie imo
Whiny and melodramatic. I can't say I disliked it, but its definitely an album that confirms to me that Radiohead is overrated.
Some good tracks (opener Packt, plus mid-list tracks I might be wrong and Knives out, are the standouts) but overall meh. Not their most captivating or innovative
Not my favorite radiohead album, but knives out and like spinning plates are great songs
2.5 radiohead is so boring
While I do appreciate Radiohead being experimental, this album did not resonate. Maybe I just feel like this was not genre or era defining , nor is it significant from an artist perspective. Just a 3 for me...
Decent, there’s better Radiohead in my opinion.
As with most Radiohead music, I like pretty much everything except the vocals. 3 stars (4 stars, minus one for the vocals)
a tad bit mid, but just not my type of music again.
First listen. Quite good.
I love Radiohead, but I'm also willing to admit that not everything by them needs to be on this list and Amnesiac would be example number one of my argument. A begrudging 3/5
Interesting album, Might have to give a few more listens.
My favourite songs were Pyramid Song, Knives Out & Dollars and Cents. I didn't really get into Pulk/Pull Revolving Doors. I couldn't understand what Thom York was singing on You And Whose Army & I Might Be Wrong. I don't generally find lyrics super important, but I feel it may have helped here. Life In a Glasshouse has a weird vibe.
Such vibes while I was driving on a highway but nowhere near as epic as the classic older Radiohead still good just different 6.5/10 overall brought down by the fact that almost none of it stood out as amazing or really fun to listen to a part from a couple small moments
This album was weird. It feels like it wanted to be a silent hill ost esqe experience, experimental selection, and a standard album all at once. I'd be listening to a very interesting track only for the song to warp to something less engaging when vocals came in for example. It felt confused.
A little too experimental for me. Didn’t feel as cohesive as their other stuff.
I'm gonna say it. I don't understand Radiohead. Sure it's music, but I don't think it's so groundbreaking. Maybe I just wasn't in the scene at the time.
The heights propped this up certainly. Perhaps a couple of my latter Day Radiohead favorite tunes? Overall, it runs quickly, but is inconsistent compared to my favorite albums of theirs.
Very experimental
Sad boi music but in a dream fugue state. Fav songs knvies out and morning bell
Milan beats Real Madrid 3:1. I get two Radiohead albums in a span of a week. Life is great, man.
I just don't see what's so great about Radiohead. It's an okay enough album. That's about it.
Not the best Radiohead album, kinda blunt really.
I got bored with it, not my cup of tea
Radiohead are a genuine puzzle for me. For years, I didn’t pay them much attention, and then somehow In Rainbows made its way onto my list of favorite albums. And yet, here I am again with Amnesiac, once more teetering on the fence, caught between admiration and bewilderment. Listening to Amnesiac continues this paradox. There’s Thom Yorke’s voice—sometimes haunting, sometimes droning, leaving me unsure whether it’s something beautiful or just flat. And the music itself keeps me guessing: at times, it feels deeply inventive, as though Radiohead are tapping into something profound. Other times, I wonder if it’s simply strange for the sake of being strange, with Yorke and the band leaning hard into weirdness without a clear purpose. I’m not sure if Radiohead are a “Marmite” band for most listeners, but they certainly are for me. With Amnesiac, I can’t quite land on either side; it’s like an album that deserves both a 1/5 and a 5/5 simultaneously. Tracks like Pyramid Song stand out, intriguing in their atmosphere and elusive lyrics. Yet for each song I connect with, there’s another that feels like it’s challenging me to try harder than I’d like to. Overall, Amnesiac is complex, weird, and constantly contradictory—maybe that’s exactly what makes it so fascinating. Standout track: Pyramid Song. Score: 3/5 (but somehow, also a 1/5 and a 5/5).
This album feels like walking through fog. It’s layered and strange, sometimes quiet, sometimes rough around the edges. Think of Aphex Twin’s softer moments, but with a bit more rawness. There’s something messy yet deliberate here, like each track’s a puzzle missing pieces. The whole thing is a bit eerie.
Not as high on this as I am on most Radiohead albums. This is probably their most difficult release, clearly a companion to Kid A but more muted and mysterious than that already kinda challenging album. The songs don’t get all the way there for me, but it’s still an interesting listen. Best song: Knives Out
This is the second Radiohead album I've gotten, after Hail to the Thief, and it is quite similar. A lot of moody wailing, but they make it work quite well. I don't know if this album is worse than the previous one or if I am just getting a little bored of their sound, but I didn't enjoy it quite as much.
Listened on my way to work. Forgot it by the time I finished my coffee.
Fitting with the title of this album, I don't really remember my opinions on this one.
3.5
Radiohead is a hit or miss for me and they always will be. This album had more hits than misses for me although at times it became a bit monotonous to listen to which is why I can’t rate it higher than a 3 for me
I liked this. I’m not a big Radiohead fan, their 2nd and 4rd albums are great, then I lost track of their career. I recognised the 2 singles, which were great, the rest was a bit of a mixed bag of good and not so good. If I’d got into this when it was released, then I’d probably be raving about it. But I didn’t and I’m not. But it’s still worth a 3 star score.
Pretty overrated
el album de los ruiditos falopa
meh
Not my favourite by Radiohead
I was never much of a fan of Radiohead, though I guess I'll give this one 3 stars out of recognition of its denseness. It seems a shame for me to rate this as high as the Duran Duran album. BTW I hope you boys noticed we've gotten through 200 albums so far. :)
I love Radiohead, but this is my least favorite of their albums on this list. Still a good listen, just not to the level of their better efforts.
Not bad. A little maudlin and melancholy. Definitely not everyday listening for me.
This shit is ass but Thom Yorke is my lil twink boy so I can't give him too bad of a rating
Solid 3.5 stars,, honestly great album but it gets held back a bit in that its really just B sides from Kid A
Fav: Pyramid Song Least Fav: Pulk/Pull Revolving Doors This album is something I’ve always considered on the weaker side of Radiohead’s discography. I respect the experimental but it does not always work when you’ve got songs like Pulk/Pull Revolving Doors. Some of the better songs like Pyramid Song and Knives Out show that this album has quality when it wants to.
I've listened to a lot of Radiohead in my life and never listened to this album fully through. There's a good reason it turns out. Definitely the least enjoyable Radiohead album I've listened to. Not terrible but how did this make it on the list??
Creative crunchy sounds, meters, the instrumentation sometimes lush, often spare. Precious whiney vocals of a depressed person who thinks very highly of himself. Can't take too much of this listening vibe, but heard all tracks.
When this first came out I liked it a lot more than Kid A which I hated at the time but years of listening and perspective have changed my mind on Kid A and left me to thinking on relisten that this is just an ok Radiohead album which is still quite good but they have a lot better albums before and after. Pyramid Song, Knives Out, Morning Bell & I Might Be Wrong are all great tracks, the album is worth a listen but probably doesn't need to be on the list.
Good listen but not their best
Teilweise zu "elektronisch"
Not really for me, enjoy their earlier work more , Pyramid song is a banger though.
So depressing! Like musically it's very well crafted but the vibe was really hard for me to get over. I'll have to give it another listen some day
Dreary, melancholic, eerie, dreamy. Some fun instrumental moments. Felt like the end of a sad movie
Love=hate.
Do respect the experimentation although I found it a bit patchy, started strong but there were a few too many slow ones near the end that got boring for me after a while. Also not really a fan of the vocals (bit whiny) Seems like it would grow on me after more listens
Never listened to Radiohead in detail before, album was above expectations, will listen again
Not their best
This album of theirs never stood out to me.
Good to go back to an earlier album. Besides the singles I hadn’t listened to a full album other than In Rainbows (which is one of my faves).
Chill listen, some interesting sounds here. 3.5/5
Had the AirPods in on noise cancellation so this was a very interesting listen…my ears didn’t know what was going on at times! The layering and unique sounds are very cool. Rating this is tough. I love how unique this sounds and applaud the creativity. In the right settings I enjoy this but as a whole album of songs I was to listen to often, I’m just not sure this does it for me. Would you even consider every track a song?
Anstrengend zu hören 3/5
Had some pretty weird and harsh instrumentation in there. Feels like they took regular songs and clobbered it with a layer of avantgarde. Quite enjoyable.
More Radiohead from this collection--not surprising, but it definitely feels like 6 albums by *any* band is about 3-4 too many (to me). Not a bad Radiohead album, but also not all *that* different from others in this collection, and I'm not a big fan of their sound, so it's hard to get too excited. Although I did enjoy the more Chemical-Brothers-style turn on some tracks in this album, and I particularly enjoyed the opening track with its very reasonable refrain ("Packt like sardines in a crushd tin box"), and "Pulk/Pull revolving doors". I was kind of disappointed (unreasonably so, I suspect) that the videos on this album weren't nearly as interesting as "Paranoid Android" from "OK Computer", although I'll make an exception for "Knives out", which while not all that great a song has a video that is both unsettling and impossible to look away from. The video for "Pyramid song" is kind of entertaining in a weird early 3D/VR way, and I'm not sure what to say about the experimental animation video for "Push pulk/spinning plates", other than that I understand why MTV wouldn't touch the video with a 10-foot pole; it's not every day that you get to see some weird centrifuge-like contraption with twin babies getting horribly disfigured.... Overall, I'd say they made the right choice not lumping these songs in with the "Kid A" album, but I'm also not sure this particular album belongs in this collection.
Ha, I listened to this, then forgot to come back and give it a rating. My computer would love this one.
Heel filmisch. Radiohead is eigenlijk gewoon de perfecte 'exit music for a film'.
It feels like another Radiohead album I'm supposed to like... And I mostly do, but sometimes I'd rather listen to The Bends, you know? Feels like Kid A outtakes, probably should have been saved for the retrospective deluxe edition release of that album.
Easy 3.5/5, I feel like this could be one to raise a half - full star after another listen or two.
3 radiohead
This was just ok for me. It was hard to understand the vocals on some songs , though instrument play was good. Almost felt like flashback to early 70’s music on some songs.
normally I enjoy some Radiohead but this album just didn't do it for me. felt a little scattered/unorganized. couple of the tracks were much better than the rest (I might be wrong & knives out). his vocals can easily veer into the whiny & they did a few times too many on this album. not the best by them.

This album is pretty good, but is not one of my favorites of Radiohead's. It has some really good tracks, but also enough of what kind of feels like filler that I prefer to listen to this one in pieces as opposed to as a whole. 3.4/5
I am just not a Radiohead guy, this made me drowsy. C- I guess.
high points Almost too experimental for me tho Sax outro very nice
3.5 I liked it, didn’t love it. Would listen to it again though
Favs: "Pyramid Song", "You And Whose Army?", "I Might Be Wrong", "Life In a Glasshouse"
ganz schön experiementell, was muss man dafür alles geraucht haben
Some great tracks but find this to be a 'feeler' album. Can't rub shoulders with other great albums by Radiohead.
No matter how hard I try, I just can't get into Radiohead. Personal enjoyment 3/5 Relevance to this list: 4/5
this is good but it's not OK Computer or The Bends
Pyramid Song You And Whose Army? I Might Be Wrong Knives Out
FAVTRAXS: Packt Like Sardines In a Crushd Tin Box, Pyramid Song, You And Whose Army, Morning Bell/Amnesiac, Life In a Glasshouse LEASTFAV: Hunting Bears 3.5/5
I never got into radiohead the way that people who like radiohead REALLY LIKE RADIOHEAD, but it wasn't a bad album.
bleh
Ok, a little circus-y
no no no no no no no no no
The album’s a bit of a mixed bag for me. It’s got great tracks like “Pyramid Song” and “Dollars and cents”. Others like “Morning Bell/Amnesiac” and “Knifes Out” however are kind of meh for me. I give the record a 7.5/10, not bad but it’s boring at certain parts.
Artsy, fey pretentious electronic music with vocals.
Weird b cuts apparently. Did not deserve to be on the list
Good album. Not their best, but a solid listen
Prefer their earlier stufg
Less accessible than even Kid A, but enjoyable nonetheless.
Radiohead is overrated. This isn't the bands best This isn't even the bands most experimental album. It's good and I do truly enjoy this album, it doesn't belong on this list though. 8/10 album 6/10 Radiohead album.
I am liking this album a bit more than Kid A. Still sort of melancholy and melodic. Pyramid Song has haunting lyrics, and an interesting beat. Pulk/Pull Revolving Doors is different, but not necessary my thing. Perhaps too abstract? Reminds me a bit of an art installation. You and Whose Army? is fine. A bit boring, but fine to listen to. Loved the different intro for I Might Be Wrong. Actually really enjoyed this song all the way through. Kind of an interesting country western vibe to the music, and good lyrics. Lengthy and different outro. Maybe my favorite song on this album. Knives Out has almost a lounge-y vibe. I'm so intrigued by the story behind these lyrics. Morning Bell was fine. Again, a bit boring, but nothing egregious. Dollars and Cents almost sounds sci fi-like. Hunting Bears was a nice instrumental song. Unsettling instrumentation in Like Spinning Plates. Life in a Glasshouse is very moody, and the lyrics are quite interesting and vivid to me.
Fist two tracks are bangers. Knives Out still sounds like an FM radio mainstay. The rest, honestly a bit corny in 2024. You and whose army hilarious for being the wussiest 'step up' song of all time.
6/10
Interessante Kompositionen.
Not their best
Actually enjoyed it quite a bit. Not my style but dark and moody and quite jarring. Would give it s 3.5 stars if I could
boring
It was okay?
is pretty good
The first few songs were a little too avant garde for me, even as a radiohead fan. The second half of the album I enjoyed a lot more, but not enough that I think I'll revisit this one any time soon.
I got in better with it on a second listen but still not their best.
Still don’t get this band. Just doesn’t do it for me even though I want to like this stuff. Not bad - i just don’t feel it.
Radiohead feels like a “if you get it you get it and if you don’t you don’t” band. And I don’t get it.
Still not the best of Radiohead, but deep locked in
Weird album in terms of Radiohead's discography. Kinda like Kraut Rock meets Radiohead.
Need more listening but fine, i think I'm not emo enough
Honestly very pretty, not my favorite Radiohead album but still pretty with an edge
The one Radiohead album I have never heard for some reason. It's like kid a but not quite as good
Extrem experimentelles und melacholisierendes Album. Macht es Spaß das Album zu hören ? No! Ist es großer Bullshit? No!
Radiohead are obviously an incredible band, and I'm familiar with a lot of their output. This is a solid record overall, but has quite a few filler tracks in my view, so it fails to reach the giddy heights of OK Computer. Favourite tracks: Pyramid Song (honestly one of the best songs ever written, with the 4/4-but-sounds-mad time signature), Knives Out, Life In a Glasshouse.
Trippy and experimental. Had some notable highs, but some songs I didn't connect with as well. Definitely interested in giving it another listen sometime.
This album is frustrating. I've never really gotten into Radiohead in the past (listened to OK Computer, Kid A, and In Rainbows at least once each), but I figure the passage of some time since then and changing tastes has inclined me towards really appreciating their abilities. Almost every song has this brilliant and beautiful spirit behind the instruments, the synthesizers, the sounds, but often I feel like there's not any direction it goes other than that spirit. The album as a whole also kind of slogs it's way through, despite individual songs that will blow me away. Given the background of how this album is kind of like a B side to Kid A, it doesn't seem surprising this is the result. All of that in mind though, there's a lot I appreciate and connect with on this album, and it seems like their other albums were more directly inspired, and so I feel that the likelihood I'll connect with their big albums is higher.
I've listened to a few Radiohead albums, and easily gotten lost in the delicate framework given by Radiohead. It's never really fully gelled for me. I can see the craft and beauty though. It's a music for late night driving along darkened roads thinking profound thoughts. Interesting. Spiritual and engaging. Not quite 4 stars.
This was quite a mix of sounds and genres. I'm not really sure what to think about it. I didn't love or hate it; I think I was mostly confused by it.
After getting totally obsessed with Radiohead this year, this was still one of the albums I hadn't spent much time with. It was pretty decent but I feel like Radiohead albums need to simmer and be listened to many times before you can really appreciate them. I didn't like this one nearly as much as I like Kid A, OK Computer, and In Rainbows but it was still pretty good. Pyramid Song is incredible and definitely the star of the album.
For me Radiohead started with "Ok Computer" and ended with "Kid A". It was Karma Police and Paranoid Android that acted as my gateway drug to Radiohead. Ok Computer is the only Radiohead-album I own. Later I discovered Creep (from Pablo Honey) and Fake Plastic Trees (from The Bend). I remember one of my best friends trying to push Kid A on me, but somehow the album did'nt connect with me. I haven't really followed Radiohead since. I really enjoyed listening to Amnesia. Among my top tracks is "Pyramid Song" and "You and Whose Army?" which have theese old radiohead-vibes, where the mourning tone of the tracks just keeps lingering. The track "I Might Be Wrong" is also kinda cool. I've been listening alot to the Danish band Kashmir. And while I was listening to Amnesia it hit me, how heavy influenced Kashmir is from Radiohead. Kashmirs album "Zitilites" has crazy radiohead-vibes.
Do I….like a Radiohead album???? Ew, I hate this for me. But also, I’m a sucker for a drum machine and a groove, and there’s a lot of that here. When it’s back to our regularly-scheduled boring moan sessions, though, I’m out, and yeah, half this record is still that, and I hate it. But I like half a Radiohead album! There’s hope for me still!!
What a weird album. Very experimental but there were a few songs I did really enjoy. I’ve always wanted to get into Radiohead but I’m not sure this was the album for me to start off with.
3/5. I do enjoy most of the songs on here, and it has a nice mix of the rock and experimental. Plus the experimental stuff is actually enjoyable to listen to. I think Yorke's voice sounds a little weak on the album, but only because it kind of stays in the same range of energy on each song. A little sassy and sad at the same time. It's not a bad album but it does make me want to listen to other albums more. It's definitely a B-Sides album. Best Song: Pyramid Song, I Might BE Wrong, Life In a Glasshouse
I don't care what everyone else says about this album, you can't replace the vocals with a trump and suddenly just change the game. The vocals and style are a critical part of the sound and it blends great. I would like to see some more trumpet overall but I must say that three times a day. This album was pretty good. I prefer some of their other work but liked the listen.
Melancholic, pensive and dramatic. Driving music. Too sad boy for me.
I enjoyed listening to it but it's a bit... Boring.
Today I learned that Amnesiac was essentially a Kid A leftovers album. It makes a lot of sense too, as it has very similar atmosphere and instrumentation, particularly compared with the pre-Kid A Radiohead sound. It also explains why this is a bit of a loose and inconsistent record. In places it soars and touches the highs of its predecessors but it doesn’t feel as coherent or rewarding a listen.
3
Better than all hail the thief. More electronic. I get why people hate Thom's voice but like, c'mon, Radiohead is iconic.
Moody mild music, a bit boring and whiny. Stand-out: Dollars and Cents
Album was pretty out there. I’ve enjoyed some of the Radiohead albums, but this one was just a little too eccentric for me. Didn’t think it was bad, just a little much. 3.5/5 Probably won’t listen again
They bore me. Some great songs but I've never got into them and at this stage that boat has sailed
Nine Inch Nails is the flipside of this coin i feel. Its funny that all the songs i knew were my least favorite ones on this listen. Still not a Radiohead fan but some of this is interesting.
As a Radiohead fan, my relationship with their music is one of deep admiration, punctuated by moments of sheer awe at their brilliance. I love Thom Yorke's distinctive vocals, though I'll be the first to admit that delving into their music requires a certain frame of mind—a readiness to be immersed in their complex emotional and musical layers. "Amnesiac," while a notable entry in Radiohead's discography, doesn't quite ascend to the top of my list of favourite albums from the band. That's not to say "Amnesiac" is devoid of gems. "Pyramid Song" and "I Might Be Wrong" shine brightly. Those tracks serve as reminders of why Radiohead holds a special place in my heart, even if this particular album doesn't quite capture the entirety of my admiration like some of their other works. Interestingly, my affinity for Radiohead isn't anchored to the widely acclaimed "OK Computer"—an album many fans and critics regard as their magnum opus. To me, Radiohead's brilliance doesn't cluster around just one album; their most captivating tracks are scattered throughout all of their albums. Favourite Tracks: Pyramid Song, I Might Be Wrong
Not a radiohead fan
already listened to this one Kid a 2 Maybe 3 not my fav tho it has some bangers
Again, it feels like I am supposed to like this more than I do. I'm starting to think I just don't like Radiohead, which surprises me based on the albeit few songs I had heard before starting this project. Still don't get the hype, still I don't hate it.
Mucho sonic experimentation, although something of a disappointment, the same way "Kid A" was in some quarters for those whose expectations had been raised sky-high by "OK Computer". When it works, it works ("I Might be Wrong", "Pyramid Song") but when it becomes self-indulgent, it's a little alienating. Overall: not uninteresting.
Quite dark and atmospheric, as can be expected from Radiohead. I hadn't spun this album before, as far as I recall I've only previously heard Pyramid Song. Pulk/Pull Revolving doors was .... weird? Not my favourite Radiohead album so far of the project - The Bends moved me in a way the Amnesiac hasn't - but it's still worth a listen.
Enjoyable but few songs really stood out. It feels like the B-side of KidA which is apparently is what this album is.
I'm sure I'll finally get (like REALLY get) Radiohead one day, and I'm sure it'll be with the help of this list, but it's definitely not with the help of this album. Maybe better headphones? A dark room? The right assistant?
I am finding that Radiohead albums take multiple listens for me and this was my first for this record. I need to come back and listen again
This is a perfectly Radiohead album. Which is to say it has some really nice instrumental work with Thom Yorke whining and wailing. That said I’m starting to understand this band even if I don’t pray at the altar like their fans do.
imaju mi i bolje albume
I don't have very much to say about this Radiohead album at all. A lot of the material here was recorded alongside their previous, more renowned, and acclaimed album "Kid A", and yeah it sounds like it. I'll be the first to say I don't find Thom Yorke's vocals on this thing enjoyable. His crooning style I think does better to tie the entire album together than it does to make specific songs stand out. I think this album is a holistic experience and probably Radiohead's most isolated, and almost unsettling album (as far as I remember). The electronic instrumentals return here and work quite well to build atmospheric, bleak, and very damp atmospheres. Sometimes, the experimentation is at the forefront like in the song "Pulk/Pull Revolving Doors". On many other songs though, the instrumentation, and music in general, feels stagnant, almost like you're floating aimlessly in a void. It's quite a soothing effect, and this album as a whole is very soothing and comforting. I think some great examples of this are the songs "Pyramid Song" and "You and Whose Army?". When it comes to the guitars, they're hypnotic like on the more direct "Knives Out", one of my personal favorites here. The string synths that appear on the song "Dollars and Cents" also nicely help paint a void-like image. The jazz-inspired closer is probably the most interesting thing here, with highly melodramatic lyrics. It's a grand closer. So yeah I mean that's all I can say about this. Maybe I'm just not in the mood to enter this album's embrace. While I do enjoy its more daring and electronic-driven moments, I think this is one of their more milder and uninteresting albums, and I just can't jive with Thom's singing here. With that said though, you'd be hard-pressed to find a Radiohead album more pillowy, soft, and spacious.
I'll probably get in trouble for this one, but I've just never been able to get in to Radiohead. This is a very chill album, great to have on in the background. But if Benadryl made a sound, this would be it.
I could see why people would like it but I didn’t really care for it.
I don’t understand why there is more than 1 Radiohead album on this list. I feel like if you have heard one you’ve pretty much heard them all. You either like them or you don’t why I would need to hear more than one of their albums before I die I do not understand.
This isn't my favorite Radiohead. While I appreciate the musicianship, it's just a little bit too much moaning for my tastes.
A few great songs and great moments throughout but not a great album
so this is my first real experience listening to radiohead after hearing people rave about them for years. i can't say i really knew what to expect, but i knew that this is not one of the albums i hear people rave about. and... i liked it. it's nice. i like the production on it especially. it can be a bit sparce at points and that's cool. i was not totally blown away, but i got an inkling of why people like radiohead so much.
Never listened to a Radiohead album all the way through. Some songs were alright, others sounded like generic experimental rock.
I know people my age are supposed to be obsessed with Radiohead, but I found this to be incredibly mediocre. There were a few bright spots (knives out, dollars and cents, life in a glasshouse), but the rest of this just felt like a mish mash of shit. It wasn’t terrible, so I’ll go 3.
This is basically Kid A - Part II, so other than the band being Radiohead I am a bit perplexed why this is in the book. If you hear Kid A, then you probably have heard this album as well. Anything Radiohead touches is gold, which I can understand, but among all of their great albums this one isn't the most revolutionary or notable. There are good songs on here, but it's the sound of studio tinkering and I miss some of the brilliance.
Proof that not every album a band puts out is gold
This album is a collection of songs recorded during the Kid A sessions, which is fairly obvious immediately from the production style. As a result it naturally draws comparisons to that masterpiece, and I feel it differs in two significant ways: First, the overall quality of songs. This is an album that suffers from a phenomenon we’ve seen quite a few times in this project where the first half is almost perfect and the second half is almost totally forgettable. Some of my favorite Radiohead songs are on this album, and as I was getting through I Might Be Wrong I was seriously mad at myself for the preconceived notions I had about this record — I thought *I* might be wrong having written it off all these years! Then Knives Out is just ok (in my opinion) and the rest of the record I didn’t care about until the closing track. Feels like this could’ve been an EP instead of putting out a full length release to capitalize on the success of Kid A. The second difference is that this doesn’t have the same care put into sequencing that other Radiohead records have. It doesn’t feel like an album so much as a collection of songs. It is painfully obvious that these are just the “best of the rest” as opposed to songs that were chosen specifically to ebb and flow with the others on the record. It is a largely disjointed and unfocused outing, normally something I don’t care a ton about but it does stand out as irregular in Radiohead’s discography. I have high standards for them because I love them so much! So overall? Pretty good. I’m going to spin that first half like crazy. Top tracks: Packt Like Sardines In A Crushd Tin Box, Pyramid Song, You And Whose Army?, I Might Be Wrong, Life In A Glasshouse
Couple bops on here. Sounds like it was made while making Kid A but not as good because it was. I’m glad they didn’t stick all of this on that album. Also why another Morning Bell?! That song is so good. Didn’t like this version though.
Oh man... Radiohead again
Sounded like a lot like the other stuff I've heard before by Radiohead. I like their music and think it's objectively well made but to me it always feels a little forced. Definitely need to listen again to give a more thorough statement though
Easy listening but not much jumped out at me. Seemed jazzy, good background music and instrumentals but wasnt a fan of the singers voice as it seems monotone.
- they just got too artsy after Ok Computer - the musicianship is still top notch but it feels wasted
Really easy listening. Chill vibes music. Definitely great smoking music.
Amnesiac is the first album (of only three!) that I was excited to listen to. Musically interesting, generally my jam, but pretty low key and gloomy. I guess I shouldn't be surprised. I'll listen again some time but rating it 3 out of 5.
I don't have a lot to say about this one. It's a good enough Radiohead album, if not a particularly groundbreaking or moving one. Don't get me wrong, there are some nicely layered arrangements and solid musicianship, if delivered by way of a mostly dragging, funereal vibe. Fave Songs: I Might Be Wrong, Pyramid Song, Packt Like Sardines in a Crushd Tin Box, Life in a Glasshouse, Hunting Bears, Knives Out
Very Radioheady, not my favorite but a fun listen.
Lieblingssongs Pulk pull revolving doors Knives out
I liked this, but was still a huge disappointment
Kid B-sides Just okay from them this time around.
Was never a huge Radiohead fan, but I appreciate them. This is a solid creative effort.
Overrated
Listen at: 16/02/2023
This is just the sound of accepting lifelong disappointment. I was hoping, after the left turn of 'Kid A' that they had got that out of their system and would get back to making, you know, good, cohesive albums full of strong poignant original songs and only a bit of atmospheric and unsettling filler. It's time to let this hope go for me. Need to stop thinking if I put 'Hail to the Thief' or 'In Rainbows' on that I will finally click with them. I like all Radiohead's stuff, but I like it, respect it, don't love it. 'The Bends' and 'OK Computer' are just classics for me. Oh well it's not all wide of the mark, 'Pyramid Song' is indelibly linked in my mind with the events and outfall of the attacks of 2001, and looms with indecent gravity in my mind. I like 'Knives out' too. It's a serious and inventive album, and to be fair Radiohead have totally trodden their own path since, but they's never quite lived up to their promise. Possibly on purpose. I need to let them go, the next Radiohead album is never going to be the one.
obnoxious af
Radiohead does sad music pretty well, maybe its closer to despair. Once in awhile is fine but a whole album? Nah, cant fault them for their musical contributions though!
Spooky depressing music. I loved it!
Buen album, demasiado experimental. Los temas mas mainstream son temones
Definitely not my favorite Radiohead album. This one really starts to drone on and all sounds the same for the most part. Very atmospheric overall.
One of my all time favorite bands. There are some really strong tracks on here, but overall, this is not their strongest album - many tracks feel like b-sides or ideas. Radiohead's b-sides are better than most band's singles though.
I love Radiohead but this album is a little too electronic influenced for my tastes in general. There are some fantastic songs on it like Pyramid Song and Knives Out, but if I want to listen to Radiohead I’m probably not going to put this album on
Whilst I "appreciate" this band, I didn't enjoy listening to a whole album. Made me very gloomy. I liked the two singles, and a couple of others.
A solid 3! Enjoyable but not a mind-bender.
There are far better Radiohead albums than this in my opinion. Surprised this made the list. I like the jazz loungy vibe of the last track, and I Might Be Wrong has some fun grooves. Overall, the album is a little too experimental/slow/melancholy for me. Radiohead tends to depress me the older I get, and this album in particular leans into that vibe. But there is beauty in sadness too, especially when the music is well composed. Anyway, it’s Radiohead, so even though it’s not my favorite, it gets a 3 because they are iconic and they make beautiful music.
Not bad, but this definitely feels like an album of Kid A B-sides. These songs just aren't as interesting musically. Highlights: Pulk / Pull Revolving Doors, I Might Be Wrong
Decent album. Wish you could do half stars.
Good, not best Radiohead, but still good Radiohead.
In Rainbows still clears but it was a good listen
This is the closest to my taste in music and I do like Radiohead, but I don’t think these lyrics really caught my ear, so I’d have to listen again with a look at the lyrics to really judge how I relate
I’m not really sure what type of mood you’d have to be in to be craving this album but I didn’t really enjoy it.
I only knew the name Radiohead, was totally ignorant on the music. Overall, pretty decent. Well done, good sound. Don’t love the singer but not too bad. I can see why lots of people like this. But it didn’t really “wow” me either. May grow on me if I listen again. 3.5, round down to 3
This album was just okay. Nothing really blew me away. There were a few good songs on there but this feels like a weaker Radiohead album
Radiohead being Radiohead
Really gotta be in the mood for Radiohead, but otherwise it's solid.
This album was way chiller than I expected. I hadn't listened to much radio head before, so I was surprised at the said back tones of the music. Not bad.
I was expecting them to be more upbeat and metal for some reason, it felt very depressive and ethereal. Better than expected.
In the film Clueless, Cher teases her step-brother , Josh, for liking the “maudlin music of the university station. ... What is it about college and cry-baby music?” The complaint rock she so neatly skewers is, of course, Radiohead. And, boy, they really do lean into the maudlin complaint rock thing here. I've listened to this a bunch of times in the past couple of days while preparing this review, and I have found it effective music to play while I work. It is pleasant background music, excerpt for that annoying backwards backing track on Like Spinning Plates, which is like fingernails on a blackboard). The songs are often barely there; just atmospheric noise (Pulk/Pull Revolving Doors, for example). But, except for Knives Out and the Pyramid Song, none of these songs are memorable. You certainly couldn't hum them or play them on acoustic guitar around a campfire. Overall, this is the sound of enervation. It's hard to imagine myself ever getting wildly enthused or passionate about this album. But, I must confess, I found a good deal on a second-hand vinyl copy recently, and I bought it. So, I guess I hear something worthwhile here? I just wish they'd start playing guitar rock again, you know?
Meh
I like Radiohead but this album blows hit and cold with me. Requires a committed listener and unfortunately I get distracted.
Not my favorite Radiohead album. Not bad, very ambient. I like OK Computer and Moon Shaped Pool more.
I never really listened to Radiohead before. I reviewed Kid A on this site previously and was surprised how much I enjoyed it. This is another 'easy to listen to' album. I don't think it's as strong as Kid A.
