Reviews (page 14 of 14)

Pas mon style préféré de Nina Simone.

Don't really like vocal albums

Not my thing

Great voice and interesting selections but not a fan

Quite liked it. Perfect music if you’re sitting in a nice bar but I don’t think I’d want to play this at home again.

My own personal taste is that I don't like her voice I'm afraid, some solid songs though but found it tough listening

Saved Prior: None Off Rip: Four Women, Either Way I Lose Cutting Edge: Lilac Wine Overall Notes: Good music, just not my kind of thing. I'm glad this exists, but it's not meant for me.

Not my type. Sweet voice though

I liked Ms. Simone's version of Lilac Wine, but that was about it. Otherwise, not my cup of tea.

Buena voz. No me ha llenado especialmente.

It's another emperor's new clothes album. People are too afraid to say they don't listen to this old music that doesn't have a good production quality. It was good then, it inspired later artists, it has a place in music history, you should hear it once I guess. It isn't something you listen to again though because there are newer, better albums today. That's with a lot of this list. She's a good singer but time changes all, even music.

It's a nice album but Nina's work isn't really my thing. She's talented. 5/10.

Like the music and some of the lyrics, but it's not my style. Some songs feel very similar.

Not really for me. Each song sounded the same and a little too depressive but not in a good way.

Good Album to put on in the background... Not much interested in listening on the regular though

Ok I guess.

Just didn't grab me Nina. I'm sorry Nina Simone, you just didn't grab me. Also, 'my name is........ PPPEEEEEEEEAAAAAAAAAACCCCCHHHHHEEEESSSSSSS

I am sure this is a really great record but it's just not what my earholes find overly pleasurable.

I know that Simone is an incredible singer, but I just wasn't a fan of this at all.

Not my type of album/10

I can understand its significance but it's not for me

Absolutely not my cup of tea. I just cannot listen to that kind if bluesy, old-timey, schmaltzy Jazz. And I don't vibe with her voice.

Ekki plata fyrir mig

Far too dated for me

Tone deaf

Ei tällästä

Really not my style. I can respect it and she's very talented but I will likely never listen to it again

Didn’t care for this at all

Tiene 11 canciones, me gustaron solo: - what more can i say? - either way i lose El album es medio aburrido, triste, y monotono!

I am not smart enough to know if this is good or bad. She seemed to be a good piano player.

not my style :/ too slow

Not my cup of tea. Great voice, can’t deny that but did not enjoy

Not for me.

Wasn't my cup of tea

not my vibe

Only knew like two songs from Nina Simone going into this. She’s a phenomenal vocalist. I don’t really like this genre of music however. Fav song is ‘I Love Your Lovin’ Ways’.

Just kind of slow and boring. 1/5 stars.

boring as hell

That really wasn't my kind of music.

I do not like vocal jazz

Not my music.

Not for me.

Not my type of music. Quite boring

Holy smokes what a snooze fest. I couldn’t wait for the album to be over

Just not for me.

Don't like the style very much. I don't see anything special about this one.

👎🏻

Nina's great but couldn't get into this album. 1/5

Not for me

Tried. Bailed on 3rd song

Underwhelming. Heard better versions of all these songs. Expected more.

I like her voice, but that's the only positive thing I have to say about this album. Having her voice with some better songs would have been really fun. The only song I really like on it is Break Down And Let It All Out, and Four Women tells an interesting story. Best song: Break Down And Let It All Out

Not a fan of her voice or arrangements. I expected better from such an icon.

Wild Is the Wind

Nina Simone is a recognizable name in the jazz world but I found this to be a bit boring, even with her unique voice and tone. It's slow, dated, and a little too gospel-theater for me. The only take away was finally placing the sample from "The Story of OJ" by Jay-Z (it's from "Four Women"). The title track is one of the worst on here and the cover art is a flop. Low 1.35.

I have heard the name many times and finally got a listen. Nina has a voice that is hard to tell if it's feminine or masculine. I did not particularly like this album but I guess for its simplicity it sits somewhere in music history? The fact that it is a compilation of previously unreleased songs means it could have remained an unreleased album and I would be fine with that. Makes me think Simone must have other albums on the list just cause I know she's known in the biz. His album though...1.2.

Another example of dated jazz blues from a bygone era. I wish there was more to this but it was mostly just an old frog woman crooning over simple piano and bass lines for 40 minutes. There are some vocal sections that I couldn't put a finger on from Nina that were somewhat compelling at the start. A couple jauntier tunes show up that I enjoyed but unfortunately it quickly goes back to slow, slow, sloooow bad lounge music especially on the back half. I wanted to like this and tried to keep an open mind but after 40 minutes I was so ready to be done with it. 1.25 stars

Really not my thing.

I don’t love Nina Simone’s voice. I wanna listen this album and maybe understand why people love that. But sorry, for me it’s 1

Not my style. Reminded me alot of the jungle book soundtrack for some reason.

“I Love Your Lovin’ Ways” was upbeat and bluesy with Shirley Bassey vibes. It really got me excited for the listen ahead. Unfortunately, “Four Women” was a meandering song that I didn’t grasp onto the way I probably should have and “What More Can I Say?” felt like a song that wanted to put me to sleep for 3/4s of the track. “Lilac Wine” was a beautiful snooze fest and this carried on we get to “Break Down and Let It All Out”…which was lively but not a favorite with its shaky vocals. Then it was right back to sleep for the rest of the album. To be blunt, it was a struggle to get through this album, but it’s done and that’s one I won’t have to listen to again. Why this is one I have to hear, I’m not sure…but I'm jealous of those who find it so quintessential

60’s

I understand the cultural significance, but did not click with me

Oddly masculine voice and not in the smoky, sexy way either. I had to keep reminding myself that a woman was singing. And I didn't really enjoy the songs either, very melancholy and strange. There was nothing I liked about this album, except when it was done. Sorry, I know that's harsh, but still true.

Blues and jazz and sadness.

I like some Nina Simone songs but I really didn't vibe with this. And I want to point out I really do give albums a go, I tend to listen to them at least twice. But there were only like 1 or 2 songs that I liked. There's something about the production or something that kind of eats away at my brain when I listen to this

She has a lovely voice. If you like Muzak, you'll love this. Very sedating.

I don't like it.

I understand the historical and cultural significance of this album but I personally didn’t enjoy it.

It's boring sorry

Quite boring album

🐵🙈🙉🙊

Not my thing

not my cup of tea

Felt like old lady music.

Didn't like, too slow

Pretty slow

Too old for my taste

Can't do it. Really not my jam

Not really into it. A lot of slow jazz songs. Favorites: I Love your Lovin’ Ways

Ok, pretty chill but not my favorite

Umas faixas aqui (I love your loving ways, wild is the wind, either way i lose) eu ainda vou ouvir algumas vezes, achei bem interessante, curti.
