Reviews (page 12 of 14)
I do prefer this era of the Beatles, it's fun to bop to. I'll never understand the hysteria around them, but they had some tunes for sure.
Pleasant but also... kinda dull
Lots of covers, and their original stuff didn't stick with me. It is ok, but not more than that.
This list probably includes the whole discography of The Beatles, and I think that's definitely too much Beatles songs in one go. I can listen to couple songs in sequence, but everything more than that and I just have to tap out. And this album especially is so monotone, couple interesting songs to start with, and then just heaps of soulless "love songs" from 60 years ago. The band made a real breakthrough in music history, but this album is just a pretty old, outdated piece.
Lo primero de los beatles, por lo tanto lo peor. No es un mal disco pero tampoco lo pondría para escucharlo comparado a Sgt. Pepper o Magical Mystery Tour
Good but clearly the Beatles have more in store
already have listened to this one before . 3.5/5. 60s pop boy band shit, pretty fun though.
Early Beatles are not my thing and never have been. That being said, the album as a whole worked better than I expected.
This album is about 50/50 for me, and the dividing line is the covers versus the original material on here. You have pop masterpieces like “It Won’t Be Long” and “All My Loving”, but you also have some lackluster takes on “Roll Over Beethoven” and “Till There Was You”. “Please Mister Postman” is maybe the one exception, but as the following years would prove, The Beatles just needed to pump out some albums until they felt comfortable enough relying solely on their own material. This is a necessary stepping stone to that, and regardless of the overall quality, that Beatles charm shines through the whole thing to keep it enjoyable.
Basic beatles
This is very good - better than I had remembered, but it's not a patch on what they would become. It's early 60s pop at its best.
Much stronger Side A "All My Loving" one of their best pre-'65 songs Has some of their best early pop stuff while also some of the worst in their catalog, a little uneven
Classic early Beatles. Mostly covers. Good but far from their best.
There's not much I like by the Beatles prior Rubber Soul. I just can't get into, perhaps if I was a 15 year old girl in the early 60's but I'm not.
Good memories - prefer the newer stuff
Track 1- Catchy, cool, really enjoyed it Track 2 was a bit slower, still alright. Not as good though Track 3 was basically no different from one Track 4 was pretty decent, Catchy Hook and good verses Track 5 was quite upbeat in comparison, harmonica solo slaps Track 6 was very chilled, big Mediterranean vibes Track 7 was a really good Mr Postman cover. Very very beatles. Track 8 I thought I was Johnny B. Goode at first but its my favourite so far. Upbeat chuck Berry style but beatles Track 9 was also a great song. Beatles definition Track 10 was, well, okay I guess Track 11 was better, cool music behind the okay vocals Track 12 was... meh Track 13 was just the same really Track 14 was really different, was really cool
There are songs I don't care for on here.
Good album, but not overly stuffed with Beatles classics
Probably 4 3 Aaaa thats the mr. Postman reference
With the Beatles is the second album by the English rock band the Beatles. This rock and roll / pop album was released only eight months after their debut album and was critically acclaimed - being certified gold in the US & UK. It was extremely popular at release as fans were eagerly awaiting more music from the band. Although I enjoyed listening to this album for the first time, no track really stuck out to me as amazing. Perhaps this style of rock is just too old for me to connect with it. Good, but not my go-to music.
This is the second Beatles album I've been given from this list (the first being 'A Hard Day's Night,' and I didn't enjoy 'With The Beatles' nearly as much as I enjoyed the other one. The Beatles' pop prowess is still on display here, but it just doesn't resonate as deeply with me when they're not performing their own songs. The guitars, drums, and vocals are all still great, but this album just didn't have the complete feel to it that 'A Hard Day's Night' has.
Heard it before?: No Enjoy it?: Yeah, I love the Beatles so I’m biased. not the greatest introduction of course but as a fan you enjoy near enough everything they do despite the drastic changes to their sound over the years! Favourite song: Track 7 - Please Mister Postman
Quite samey, but a few good tracks.
First time listening to a Beatles album back to back. Was hoping I’d be engrossed but unfortunately didn’t really spark joy for me, obviously pioneers but find the lyrics generic and the songs samey
Objectively, the Beatles for their time were amazing, no contestation there. Objectively, their productions were/remain some of the more emulated and sought after achievements by any band or studio. Objectively, they are a snapshot in history well-deserving of their fame and prestige. Subjectively, this album was boring and while the Beatles as a subject should in fact be something to be educated about, the idea that their music/catalog is a must-listen in any other capacity outside of education and historical impact, is ludicrous. Give to The Beatles what is The Beatles's, but music is much bigger than they will ever be.
Expected to dislike this, as I've never been a big fan of the Beatles' early work. However, it wasn't too bad. I enjoyed "All My Loving", "Till There Was You" and "Please Mister Postman" especially. Not an incredible album by any means, but interesting to to see the early stages of a great band.
This was overall a solid album, but only a few tracks felt like they really broke out of the boring 60's rock formula and were memorable. It did still feel like it was ahead of its time, and it's impressive that it holds up pretty well 60 years later.
This is like watching a toddler learn to walk. You know eventually they'll be sprinting but they're still finding their feet. It's incredibly cute. Already you can hear hints of how great these guys become, and Lennon's voice always makes me happy. A fun listen to some favourites.
Dead serious. 3 stars. It’s competent and, as a Beatles fan, I love the shuffle-beat skiffle of their roots. But this s not why we love the Beatles. It isn’t why they’re iconic and it doesn’t merit being on the list of 1001 albums I need to hear.
Pop rock. Blandito.
On the second album by the Beatles, they are still playing a lot of covers and their originals are getting better, but still haven't reached anywhere close to their potential. A strong record with the band bringing the energy from their live shows to the studio. Their earlier albums are good, but the best is yet to come. ***1/2 out of 5
As expected
some highs and some lows but mostly just middle of the road. if I were more cynical I would say this is a transparent attempt to break into the US market but I enjoy the covers so it’s ok. best tracks: all my loving, please mr postman, you really got a hold on me
a 3.5 star beatles album. Although maybe this is me comparing the beatles to themselves and not objectively, oh well.
Best track(s): Don't Bother Me (lyrics!) // Please Mister Postman // You Really Got A Hold On Me // Money (That's What I Want) Worst track(s): Little Child Definitely noticing that I'm used to stereo instead of mono. Songs are incredibly short as well. Probably wouldn't listen to this again because of music quality. Songs are decent but not very memorable. Wondering if stereo version would help.. (probably, liked the last track more and that one was in stereo) This type of music seems to grow on you the more you listen to it.
Cute album, the guitar/drum beats are simple, and mostly the same throughout the album, my favorite song is def Something. The funny anecdote: The song Carry that weight got stuck on repeat while I was at the gym lmao.
Very decent
7,5/10
All the songs I like the best are a very talented band covering, arguably, at this stage of their careers, songs by better song writers. My usual feeling with the Beatles, generally underwhelming but comfortable and well executed rock and roll.
Some good songs but it feels dated and not as interesting as their later work. I had no idea they did this many covers on their first album, such as roll over Beethoven.
As Beatles go, weak
Early Beatles were a lot more straight-forward, compared to their later work, but they were still great songwriters. Great pop/rock tunes for their time, although the charm wears off after you're halfway through this.
Beautiful harmonies from John and Paul. There's enough variety to distinguish some tracks from others. I also feel like some tracks like All My Loving, Please Mister Postman and Till There Was You stands out more than other tracks.
Catchy, of course.
early 60s pop. Better than most... but still early 60s pop....
If there is a Beatles album that could be removed from the list it’s probably this one, still a good album but too many covers and with their debut and hard days night already on the list I’m not sure what this album adds. Maybe harsh as if this was an album by another 60’s group I’d be singing its praises. But the Beatles already have 6 other albums on the list so I’m measuring it against those other albums.
Seems that before they took over the world and innovated pop countless times, all the Beatles did was create bland pop on front loaded albums that are more a bunch of songs that didn't fit on singles rather than a cohesive record. Well, actually that's a bit harsh. There are more than a few killer tunes, which mostly come when Lennon and McCartney sidestep clichés and write the more complex, sophisticated tunes, specifically tracks 2-4. Most of the covers are just ok, but the renditions of 'Please Mister Postman' and 'Money (That's What I Want)' were fantastic and the best sounding on the record. Also George already shows that he could be the best Beatle with his tune on this one. A decent record.
Wednesday, quiet, work out, vibe, hang, music, bad writing, tired
Always good
Im not a huge fan of the beatles but I cant deny their influence
Ding dong Beatles time
For most other bands, this album would get four stars. As it's not close to being The Beatles best album, it only gets three stars.
It’s fine. Seems to be a solid, if bland, album of early pop.
I really only like later Beatles stuff, but this was worth it for Don't Bother Me and Not A Second Time. You can hear the beginnings of the musical experimentation in those songs, among the covers and pop songs.
The fact that I’m only hearing the vocals in one earbud so far is really throwing me off from songs that I actually really like and would otherwise add to my playlist. I’m 4 songs on and the only one that’s heard any vocals is my right ear and it’s really bothering me. Why did they do that? Don’t Bother Me Sounds super similar to The Night Before to me… just something I noticed. I like the night before more though. No but seriously I think a lot of these songs would have made it into my playlist if the singing was in both earbuds. Are there a lot of people out there who actually like that? And all the instrumentals in the other ear? I don’t love it and it’s really throwing me off and making me not love these songs as much as I probably could. I love the lyrics of till there was you. They’re really cute BUT again kind of ruined by the split audio thing going on. I’ve heard please mister postman before, but I never knew that it was the beatles. Or maybe it’s a cover cause I know they’ve done a few covers before. I don’t mind (and actually kind of like) how short some of the songs are. I’m actually quite disappointed because most of these songs would probably make it to my playlist!! But the unequal audio kind of ruins the album for me. I’m not exaggerating when I tell you that I have a headache. Kind of a waste imho. Roll over beethoven only gets the highest rating because I’ve heard it before and it’s already in my playlist. If the audio were different it probably could have been several other songs that would have been my favorite. Oh- did I mention that I don’t like how the audio is split between headphones. :/
It’s good, not amazing.
Top 3 Songs: 1 - All My Loving (3) 2 - Please Mister Postman (7) 3 - It Won't Be Long (1)
Meh, not big on the Beatles but there are some fun, catchy tracks in here.
I never really listened to full albums of early Beatles as I'm more of a Rubber Soul and beyond guy. This is a decent enough debut for the phenomenon but it hardly holds a candle to the later work. There's some "meh" covers thrown in. My personal highlight is Not A Second Time. It's not bad really, but it's not terribly exciting and they were a few years away from really killing it like only they could.
Good early album
It was surprising to me how many new Beatles songs I both really enjoyed and really disliked. Wasn’t expecting this album to disappoint me but it did in a way. I enjoyed just less than half the songs on the album. While it was released during the earlier side of their rise in the music world, I was still surprised by my lack of interest in majority of the songs.
Ahh, the early Beatles. So "innocent" and young. These first couple albums are not as interesting to me as there are a lot of covers and repeated themes like - You're my girl now so stop talking to other boys; Dancing is fun; I'm in love with you and I wrote a song about it; etc. They are interesting showing the type of songs that they got their chops playing and influenced their original songs. The best thing about all Beatles albums, to me, is that they each capture a moment in the life of the band, and one can easily see how the group evolved and got better and better with each album.
Very boppy
definitely a great album imo, some classics. i don't know if this is their strongest album but Roll Over Beethoven & You Really Got A Hold On Me will always be my faves
shalala is not my cup of tea. I love the psychedelic beatles phase (Revolver, Sgt Peppers and Magical Mystery Tour) but yeah yeah yeah is a bit boring but not unbearable.
Couple of original Beatles and a few cover songs. Nothing revolutionary, but good mood music. (5/10) FT: It Won't Be Long, All My Loving, You Really Got a Hold on Me
Early Beatles are simply good pop rock. Not much beyond that, but I commend their consistency in quality.
late Beatles > early Beatles
I hate to say it, but this was kind of meh for a Beatles album. Too many covers. Don't get me wrong, it's still good, but nothing special.
Unfortunately only available in stereo on (my) streaming service, because this isn't meant to be listened to in any way but mono. On this album, their second studio album, i would say they haven't found their sound yet. Half of the songs are r&b covers, and while their own compositions are strong throughout; i love these more!
A good combination of originals - It Won't Be Long, All My Loving - and covers - Money, Please Mr Postman. Very much phase 1 Beatles. A good listen, but so much better to come
Still not a fan of the Beatles I can see how they're the prototype of modern music though.
Far from being the best Beatles album. A quick 30 minutes of a band that was just starting along their journey to be one of the most influential bands of all time.
Nyt lyö kyllä tyhjää mitä mieltä tästä tuli oltua, mutta biisilistaa kun koittaa nyt muistella niin taisi olla ihan jeekkis.
Basic Beatles
The best way to describe this album is that it’s “nice”. Tame, non-offensive, but nothing that blows me away.
I don't like them Beatles. This hasn't changed anything
I like some of the Beatles non-hits, usually about guys telling their girlfriends how devoted they are. Aside from Money, I'm not so crazy about the covers, Til There was You is interesting because it presents McCartney's voice in a different, throw-back crooner light. Postman was a mistake. The album is interesting because it highlights the big changes they made a couple of years later with Rubber Soul.
I find ones like this hard to rank given the age. If this was the only record the Beatles did would it be on here? I don’t know.
3/5 for a Beatles album, 4/5 for everyone else
Not the worst beatles, clearly made before their best
With a back catalogue like theirs I'm surprised this one makes the top 1001, this to me is The Beatles.....before they actually became The Beatles. this is pretty run of the mill stuff compared to their later work
The Beatles' second album. 14 consistent, catchy and jangly rock'n'roll songs from the Mop top / 'Beatlemania' era, without any singles to take the focus. Nothing to push any musical boundaries, but a pleasant and enjoyable listen. Rating: 3.5/5 Playlist track: All My Loving Date listened: 03/06/22
Lennon and McCartney only 21-22 years old (Harrison even younger!) when they recorded this - amazing really. The covers are mostly impressive (some a bit too m.o.r., but reflective of the music scene at the time), but the originals shine. Unbelievable talent at such young ages. I think theyre taken for granted these days - some people forget what they brought to music some 60 years ago. Bravo.
Good 60s rock but not yet the songwriting calibre they achieve in other albums.
Short album coming in at 33 minutes, that early Beatles sound with different tracks coming through left and right channels in early use of Stereo. All My Loving is my most popular song, though Money (That’s What I Want) is a great closer.
I prefer the latter Beatles to early Beatles. The cover songs don’t do it for me. The Beatles originals on this album are good.
I don't remember if I've listened to The Beatles album as a whole before now. There are several tracks that I know I've heard several times before. I enjoyed hearing the early connections to Rock and Roll, before the Beatles really began to expand the genre as they did later in their career. The covers of songs by other musicians are firmly tied to the originals, but they sound like early Beatles tunes. "All My Loving" and "Roll Over Beethoven" were my favorite tracks from this listen. I like that they covered Smokey Robinson's "You Really Got a Hold on Me" too. The Beatles trips up on the general problem I have with this era's approach to love songs. "Little Child" feels creepy as the lyrics seek romance from... a little child. "Hold Me Tight" is another track I'd be tempted to skip. In general, this album is an album of love songs, which helps to keep this album at 3 stars for me. The music is energetic, and the harmonies are fun. I enjoyed listening to the album, but once might be enough for the album as a whole.
Well well… moments of brilliance by the Beatles but a reminder that they are human and not demigods. Side A is strong, Side B falters a little bit but this serves as good contrast to shine a light on how brilliant this band became later on.
Good 'n' cheesy.
Decent 60s pop. Their original songs are better than the covers, but tbh I can't see myself listening to this again - historical value only.
I don't really get it, well anyway, this is the last Beatles on the list for me. Au revoir.
Best Song: All My Loving. I actually prefer several covers of this song, but the original still holds its own. Worst Song: Roll Over Beethoven. Only because I can imagine the live shows in which the crowd, determined to match the energy of the studio recording, clap their hands bloody and raw for the entire goddamn song. Overall: If this album is here, should I just assume that all Beatles albums are on this list? Surely one day all this phony Beatlemania will have bitten the dust, right? One thing that struck me while listening to this album was the way nearly every track immediately wriggles its way into your brain and sticks there like some not-entirely-pleasant drug. But then, for as fast as the dopamine hit of each song comes on, it peels off even faster and by the end of each (already short) song, you're grateful that it's finally gone. Paired with these inane, cheeky-cheesy lyrics, you're stuck with this album that feels so sugar-coated it should come with its own insulin shot.
Decent album, but lower end for the Beatles. Before they were interesting.
Not exactly 'The Best of The Beatles' is it?
Very abrupt start to the album Generally good vibes Kinda dancey stuffm
Die frühen Beatles halt…
I seem to have a mental block to The Beatles. Don't know why as like plenty of older music.
listened before not their strongest start but still good
Expected to give this a 2 to balance all the stars I’ll be dishing out to the later Beatles albums, but it started so strongly. Listening to the energy of It Won’t Be Long gives me a taste of what Beatlemania must’ve been like for a 60s schoolgirl. The Beatles did this kind of music better than most of their contemporaries, I reckon. Buuut there are a few duds (Little Child…) and the covers don’t add anything for me. 2.5 / 3
I found most of the songs on this album pretty forgettable, but "Please Mr. Postman" and "You Really Got a Hold On Me" are standouts. It is noteworthy that both of these songs were covers. On "With The Beatles", the group has yet to hit their songwriting stride. 3.5/5 stars
Classic Beatles - but nothing I haven’t heard before
There's nothing new to say about the Beatles. I grew up listening to them with my parents, I can't help but love it, you know? Highlights: All My Loving, Till There Was You, You Really Got a Hold on Me.
A well put together album that sounds very much of it's time. Thankfully the Beatles progressed and drove music forward from the early pop/rock sound.
Didn’t enjoy this as much as I hoped - sounds more dated than the stones at this same period.
Overall a really pleasant record, but with nothing to make it stand out or impress - no low points either, but it's just. Average.
Nostalgic romp with a couple of standout hints of music to come. Felt very corny through most of it.
Classic Beatles. Playing with Stereo. Lovely album.
Intéressant, évidemment, mais pas ma période préférée des Beatles. Encore trop gentillets à mon goût :)
3/5 was the good old Beatle I can’t complain, songs did sound a little similar tho
Even as a diehard Beatles fan, I question this album's presence on the list. It's totally fine, decent pop covers, but nowhere near as influential impressive, or enjoyable as the albums that came before or after it. Not bad, but not great.
3.4 - solid soulful Beatles tunes, with some early classics - “You Really Hot a Hold on Me” is my favorite of the bunch.
pretty uninspired '60s blusey rock with vocals you'll definitely recognize. cool to compare this record to their later stuff but this is far from a standout album, especially compared to the numerous similarly-shaped ones on this list
great All my loving, characteristic Beatles album, it's neither bad or outstanding, I will probably relisten some of the songs only
A good album. Not the best Beatles, but even ok Beatles are pretty great
Solid
Struggled to rate as always with albums like this. I've never heard this album before and yet knew the majority of the songs... on the whole, I enjoyed it. Somewhere between 3-4 stars for me but as we can't do half stars I'll go for 3. Stripped down a bit and it'd be a 4.
It's your nan's favourite mop-tops. If you've any knickers left over after the Tom Jones tour, chuck em this way!
At the height of Beatlemania, anything would have sold over a million copies! Content-wise, as much as I love The Beatles and know of this album, the covers are good (they'd be awesome live), and All My Loving is still a great foot-tapper! Their best was yet to come...
I’m not a fan of The Beatles to begin with. Some songs were fine. I wouldn’t go out of my way to listen to this again. I tried to put myself in the frame of mind for the time this was written.
Not bad.
Buen disco
Generally a bigger fan of their later stuff. Got this album for Christmas 20-some years ago. Like "Til There was You" and some of the hits are fine from time to time. I guess I can see how they came to be huge from this album, but it does not standout amongst their later work. There was also a strict rule back in 1963 on track length with nothing here clocking in over 3 minutes.
Why cover so many brilliant songs and not make them better. Disappointing
This is hard. On one hand, it's the Beatles, a band that has contributed enormously to the quality of my life, and my understanding of music and expression generally - I am not a casual fan. On the other, With The Beatles is perhaps the least impactful album in their entire catalog. Sure, there are hits here, but it's more like a photocopy of the formula from Please Please Me than it is a 'new record', and the innovations the band would spearhead in the coming years only underscores the analogy. Listening to it again I find myself wanting to cherry pick tracks (or listen to Please Please Me instead) rather than soldiering on. And how good is it if I'm characterized the listening as 'soldiering on'?
I LOVE the Beatles. But these songs all sounded the same to me. But what gives them a pass here is that you can listen to their later stuff and see how they used this stage of their career as the foundation for what would come later. THAT'S greatness.
You can table these with a lot of the simpler early Beatles’ songs. Pretty cool to see their progression
Not my fav era of the Beatles but still holds some gems.
Good but not overall not as great as the Beatles albums that bookend it. I find some of the cover versions on here a bit underdone. Difficult second album syndrome perhaps, which makes it their weakest album for me. Blasphemous or not, I actually prefer Meet The Beatles to this.
Enjoyed this more than I thought I would. It has no classic/recognisable beatles tracks but it's still decent, and it's more of a coherent full album than some of their later stuff
Alright, but Beatles are still not my cup of tea.
Not my favorite Beatles album or era of music. I wont
Decent album. Not their best
I guess it was fine. Some good. Undeniably so. Begrudgingly positive
Kind of boring for the Beatles
even as a huge beatles mark i can't in good honesty endorse what is in competition for the most unnecessary beatles album ever.
I know it's probably blasphemous to give this a 3, but I think that might even be pushing it. This one may be my least favorite of the Beatles' albums. I get that it's "early Beatles" - but it's still not as good as their first album. Everybody gets a sophomore slump - no love lost, boys.
ну я вроде писал, что я не битломан, но и не против, пусть будут. Вклад внесли вроде в музло и его развитие. Альбомчик хитов всяких как на мой взгляд.
3.5, just sort of fades into the background for me. Bumping down because it's the Beatles, I'm expecting this to be rated higher that it deserves.

Creative for a 60s pop album
They really came far!
3.5 - This one shows the Beatles' humbler beginnings as a house band that had dialed in the 2.5 minute pop rock format. A couple classics, a couple duds, some unremarkable covers.
I'm kind of surprising myself with how low of a score I'm going to give this. It is still the Beatles, and there are glimpses of their genius in this album, but the songs are for the most part not that good or covers that are worse than the originals.
Good to know the Beatles are not exempt from a Sophomore slump.. Big reps mean high standards, and this is just average. Also annoying as I usually listening with one headphone out for work so I had to restart a couple times
A few good songs but they hadn't hit their stride. If you got this many albums on the list, ya gotta swing harder. Sorry bowl-cut-boys.
3.5
A boy band releases their second album, 14 tracks, most not bothering two and a half minutes in duration and almost half of the tracks are covers. No one could get away with that these days. Our standards are much higher. With The Beatles is a good pop album but the 1960s production gives every track a samey feeling, like if every meal you ate was a delicious chocolate pudding. Tasty, but not necessarily what you'd want to eat all the time. A curious thing - the double-tracked vocals sometimes give a spooky feeling, like reverb-heavy "dead mall" edits of popular songs. The perfect soundtrack for a liminal space. The reassuring thing is that this was not even the Beatles best recording - they still had a lot of room to grow.
Way more familiar tunes than I expected but a couple of naff tracks as well.
Amusing throwback but lacked the later picturesque story telling
Surprisingly underwhelming! And it’s been five stars all the way so far for The Beatles. That said, you can see the sparks of genius in tracks such as It Won’t Be Long, All My Loving and Not a Second Time - this band are experimenting with the form already and the playing is exemplary. The covers are fun but only fine.
Pretty classic, but a bit more stripped down and cheesy than all of the other Beatles albums I've listened through in full. Definitely not my favorite but solid.
Not my favourite Beatles album, but still a good listen.
Contrasting album. Some pieces are really good: All my loving, Don't bother me, Hold me Tight and You really got a hold on me. Some others are absolute trash, like Little Child, Mr Postman and I wanna be your man. Not the album you introduce someone to the Beatles with. Also, many of these aren't even originals of theirs.
Early Beatles are not my favourite. The album was good but very simple. I prefer their later releases where the band has pushed many boundries of music. This is fine.
A fine Beatles album but not one of my favourites
In my opinion, this is one of the more lackluster Beatles albums. Side 1 is pretty decent, especially opening with It Won't Be Long, and All My Loving is an early era staple. It tried to act as a superior follow up to their "Please, Please Me" and just doesn't have the same energy or powerhouse track list. While the majority of songs are originals, there are hardly any that hold up in the scope of The Beatle's catalogue. The covers are also subpar save for "Please Mister Postman" and "Roll Over Beethoven", but they are better served in the original recordings. I can appreciate it for propelling Beatlemania even further, but as a creative work it just doesn't do it for me. Favorite Songs: It Won't Be Long, All My Loving Least Favorite: Devil In Her Heart
Pretty good, although not as good as some of their other stuff. 1RS
Hard to criticize anything by The Beatles, even if this particular platter is not something I'd put on too often. This is definitely "early Beatles" with their late 50s influences prominent - vocal harmony laden clean-guitar-driven pop songs. That's no insult and there's really no criticism here - nobody did it like this before and almost nobody has done it this well since. "All My Loving" is probably the biggest / most famous one here amidst roughly half originals/half cover tunes. Even though I vastly prefer their later style it's still great art of the time (1963) - it just doesn't give me chills. It's a nice easy-listening experience with great vocal harmonies. i.e. the only reason I'm putting it at 3 stars is personal preference. 7/10 3 stars
Mostly pretty fun.. though noticeable that the best tracks are covers!
Its a pretty simple album, but genuinly enjoyable and fun. its not trying to be something greater than it is, but its still a well made pop album with some fun compositions and covers.
As much as I think the later Beatles albums are some of the best of humanity's creations, that will still be some of the best potentially in a millennia, I also think their earlier albums are too simple (stylistically speaking) and contain too much fluff amongst the truly good songs.
Ehhhh. Not my favorite of theirs by a long shot, but it’s still stupid that this is even on here. Prefer the original, but that cover of “You Really Got a Hold on Me” is something I could listen to on repeat.
I get it.
Lack of proper mixing for L/R makes this awful to listen to
True americana, however just not my jam at the moment.
That sure is the Beatles
Catchy melodies and tight playing but an overall experience that is square to the core. This sure isn’t “Tonight’s the Night,” or the bad-boy Stones. If this band has a future, it’s in “Money,” the only song here with an edge.
you can see a lot of the later Beatles here but nothing like their later stuff in quality obviously the covers are much better roll over Beethoven is just funny looking back at it liverpool lads singing chuck berry and a relatively rare Harrison lead I wanna be your man is good of the original tracks solid 3
Not into their earlier stuff as much but still nice to listen to. I’m more of a greatest hits Beatles guy.
el pop perfecto de los beatles etapa formal, incluso dentro de las ligaduras ya son geniales, temazos, escucha agradable rápida, sonido exquisito
Good album but not the best
Beatles before their experimental phase. Just poppy hits.
While I think The Beatles are the most overrated band of all time, their influence on music is undeniable. And for what it is, their music isn't bad. It's fine. I won't go out of my way to listen to this album or most of their other stuff, but I won't turn it off as I mow my lawn to it.
Bueno pero puede ser muchísimo mejor
This is the second beatles album it gave me this week. Maybe that's it, but I just didn't like it as much as the first. Still good though.
The Beatles are the Beatles when listening to The Beatles by The Beatles.
Not my favorite Beatles album. A solid 3
Only 11 when it came out but one of the first albums I got to know, at least the 1st side
Not My favorite music
Album is full with early Beatles pop songs, which, to be honest all sound quite short and similiar. This feels like a compilation of early 60s pop songs, rather than a coherent album. Of course some of the songs are great, for example \"Please, Mr. Postman\"
The more screechy and noisy of the Beatles albums
Not the best Beatles album, but it had a couple of hits. Something very nostalgic about old old beatles, even though I was not alive then
The first of what i assume will be all 11 beatles albums on this list, and probably tied with Let it Be as their weakest. Till there was you and Roll Over Beethoven are the highlights.
Always wanted to be "introduced" to Beatles. Looks like "remastered" is my introduction. Haha!
I love the Beatles, but I'm really glad they grew artistically from their early efforts.
This album is very much a 7 to me. Most songs are fairly good with some standout songs. A lot of the songs seem pretty normal and kind of boring in comparison to what the Beatles would go on to create. A lot of doo-wop changes make the songs sound a bit similar to each other. It’s definitely not anywhere near the best Beatles album but there are enough good songs to make it an enjoyable enough listen nevertheless. Favorite songs: All My Loving, Roll Over Beethoven, Money (That’s What I Want) Light 7/10
Nice album where you can hear what they we're capable of. Love the second track.
Zeker niet de beste Beatles plaat maar prima te doen!
It's ok, I wasn't a fan of most of the covers in the middle of the album. Starts and ends well though
Sonics: 6 Music: 6 Feel : scrambling and unpolished
Not their best
Early Beatles aren't super complicated and don't hold up by today's standards. I generally don't spend much time on their first three albums as it's too much "I love her and she loves me", but as albums of the era go, this was still one of the best.
That was fun
Eh, why do the early Beatles albums get included in these lists? I guess they were massively popular at the time? If I ever make such a list, I'd skip the early stuff and only include the later stuff, which seems more revolutionary... Fave track - "Money (That's What I Want)", I guess, though picking a cover feels slightly weird?
good but it didn't blow my mind or anything
It’s not my favourite Beatles album, but it’s fine. It prompted me to ask the question, though “Who Recorded it First?” for a few of the tracks.
Mostly love songs. Some hits. Still early in their careers before an album became a cohesive work. Not my favorite
There is a song on here that I sang in choir and I thought it was something way more lame than the beatles
A couple good hits! Wouldn’t keep this album on rotation though.
When I was like 15 and going through my first big Beatles phase I decided to abstain from some of their albums so I’d have something to come back to. Although I’d heard a lot of the tracks already I did enjoy it as an album. Yes, there are a few scrappers on it there are a few gems that attempt to make up for it. Overall, I don’t think it’s bad but it’s definitely not on par with some of the other albums by the Beatles on this list.
All I’ve got to do is so fucking SICK. You can hear them coming into themselves here, great vocals and our Ringo’s on the money and all. Some major stinkies though. Little Child? Bit dodge lads, if I wanted that craic I’d bop to PYT. Also did you hear what they said about dogs locked in cars on hot days?
Meh, it's the Beatles
Nice album to listen to. For me only a few song that were more familiair as Beatles song. This is a Beatles album that I will listen to again sometime.
Classic. Beatles never let me down.
Not my favorite Beatles album
Cool album. Basic beatles tho
You happy you got your little Beatles kick? Your little doo wa doo yeah? Well take it and leave your shoes at the bloody door. The best songs are covers and to think these cunts ended up cool makes me feel hopeful for that one direction reunion that's constantly on my mind.
Not my favorite Beatles album. But enjoyable.
Not my favorite, but still pretty good
Klassiker. Rivigt.
It's the Beatles, but this is the EARLY years. Listening to this, it's apparent why they took the world by storm. They've not hit their full potential yet.
It's The Beatles doing their best Chuck Berry impression. Interesting to see the origins of their incomparable pop songwriting, but otherwise, it's pretty uninteresting.
Well there’s a reason it’s not their best album
Good old Beatles. I like foot tapping along to some of these but I'm not sure I'd purposely play this album. 3.8 (but 3 stars) out of 5.
So I’ll start this off by saying that I’ve got nothing but respect for the Beatles and that I do enjoy some of their later work. But the sound they have on this album is one of the reasons I could never get into them, it’s just way too poppy for my tastes.
Not the best Beatles album but still solid 3
eh
I'd give it a 3 since it is an important album for rocknroll muzak but i didn't like this very much and i'd probably never come back to it. Just covering Black music for the public to be like "oh those clear boys are doin it so i don't gotta feel guilty listening to blacks!" It's bland and gimmicky. cheap and trashy!!!!!!!! can't wait to hear a better Beatles album on here - i do really like them but this smells
Is this an album you have to listen to before you die? Absolutely not. My recollection is this band gets much better 😊, but I guess it's a fun album overall.
Pleasant sounding album but lacks interest and no where near as good as their later works
2 1/2 stars. Thank god they evolved from this of-it's-time sound. some good songs but mostly surface level mass appealing junk
Fine.
Sometimes are work I have to listen with one headphone in -- that would be impossible to do with this record. What's even more impossible is the idea that THIS record, of all Beatles records, is included on this list. Do they have a glimmer of that X factor which eventually made the Beatles great? Yeah sure. Both Paul and John are endearing as ever, like the hummed outro of "All I've Got To Do." But then there are other wince-inducing songs that are best left in the early 60's, namely "Little Child" and the rigid cover of "Roll Over Beethoven". "You Really Got A Hold On Me" is by far the best track on here. John's crooning, sometimes howly performance actually conveys a depth of emotion we'd only hear in later Beatles albums. It will never not be funny that Ringo's floating head is below the other three on the cover art 2/5
not great. probably my least favorite Beatles album I've heard so far
Nothing more needs to be said about the Beatles or this album.
already not a fan of the Beatles but this is nowhere near their best. Music for teenage girls
I get why early 60’s teeny boppers loved this but to me this is like proto One Direction era Beatles, a few catchy pop tunes with shitty 60’s production, a couple of covers that are not as good as the originals and some filler. The Beatles cemented their place in musical history when they started to experiment and their albums were not aimed at 14 year old girls. 2
Mildly interesting to hear early Beatles but the latter albums are so much more interesting than this
I once tried to get into the Beatles by listening to the discography from the beginning. Did not make it to the good stuff. At least the songs are short.
Ugh.
One of the weakest beatles albums! Just alright innit....Not one i I revisit all that much. I did enjoy it won't be long and all my loving as ive not heard them for ages, but little child and till there was you i think are some of the worst songs they did...2.5!
Im sure it was popular, But it's an album to capitalise on The Beatles mania at the time more than anything. Loada covers and Simplistic writing. For this to be the first Beatles on here is puzzling. Alright, but doesnt hold up, given what they and their writing became. 2.5
I've not listened to much of the early Beatles. I definitely prefer the later albums post 66. Instrumentally it's tight. Too many covers however, and far too twee for my tastes. Get on the drugs lads. 2* All my loving is a bop. Little child is cursed.
Immediately I want to go listen to Daytripper instead Bass boost actually helps, but vocals only in the right ear? Track 1 I liked the outro John Lennon looks weird w/o glasses 'Don't Bother me' has kind of a James Bond OST type of feel 'Till There was you' has a nice Bossa vibe Boy, some Beatles songs really blend & blur together This album is quite heavy on their early pop-sound, but not the real bangers But I might have my tastes biased by the '1' album and Sgt. Pepper. But I would definitely rather listen to those than this album 'I wanna be your Man' has a good high-energy start There's some good vocal harmonies in this album, but it's kinda hit or miss Sometimes I don't enjoy their 'Chuck Berry' type rock songs, but sometimes I do, like my enjoyment flips back and forth during the same song. The Beatles are not great at "rock'n'roll screams" or whatever you would call it, 'The Who' does it better. 'Devil in her Heart' makes me feel like I'm going to Prom with Velma from Scooby-Doo, and I don't hate that... I like the piano riffs in 'Not a Second time' 'Money' has a fun intro. Is this a cover? Yes it is. I don't like this one much. Not a great fit for my tastes. I'd give a D+, maybe C- just for technical quality. Sounds pretty samey and ends with a cover song, a bit of a let down. I don't think i've heard any of these before actually, except for Postman. I could really go for some Lady Madonna type stuff instead.
Its quite refreshing to hear The Beatles be a bit shit, is that why this is on the list?
Probably not the worst Beatles album, but their earlier works, mainly the first 4 albums, all carry similar complaints from me… A couple good songs, and there are moments that were quite innovative at the time for a contemporary pop audience, but it’s few and far between, most songs are covers, and some of them are just a pain to listen to. Fav tracks: All Ive got to do, All my loving (and they aren’t even that great)
its ok
It was a groundsbreaking album amidst the Beatlemania of its time but it is definitely their weakest in the list. It contains too many covers for its own good and lacks the production and artistry that made their discography shine. 7/10 [DROP]
Eu não sou fã de Beatles, muito menos dessa fase ie ie ie, mas tem seu valor. Algumas musicas interessantes. E album para ouvir em mono!!
Didn't like the vocals. Little Child was a hard listen. I would be fine if it was playing in the background but it's not something I would go out of my way to jam to.
mid at best
none of the good 'uns. And if this wasn't the Beatles it would be totally forgotten.
Not enough umph yet. You can hear the potential but they haven’t hit go.
It's fine, but doesn't hold a candle to their later stuff
nichts für mich.
Didn't cared that much for it actually.
I liked it when I was a child but I am no longer a child.
If you’ve heard one early Beatles song, you’ve heard them all. Every song was about two minutes long and was some variation of: Oooo baby, I love you You know I love you so When we’re in a groove, baby I just can’t let you go See, even I can write an early Beatles song! It goes on like that for half an hour. Also, a handful of tracks were covers. I can safely say the author could have left this Beatles album out and no one would have cared. It’s far from their best work, and I did not enjoy it. 2/5
This would have been a 3 as I enjoyed the tunes. But, having the instrumentals on the left and vocals on the right in the mix is so very annoying.
There are three songs I really enjoy, but the best just blend into one massive song.
I love the Beatles but this is not the Beatles that I love. I mean, they had to start somewhere, and this album shows how they grafted at their music. But it's boring and derivative. Mr postman is a highlight but I found the rest of it really boring. Luckily they went on to completely blow our minds
It's like listening to the Beatles before they were the Beatles, just lyrically and vocally a bit worse. Hate that the mixing means on headphones all the singing is in one ear and the music in the other: feels like my ears aren't working right. I don't hate any of it but with 6 other (better?) Beatles albums on the list I'm not sure we had to hear this one. Favourite song: Don't Bother Me Least: I Wanna Be Your Man
I've always held a belief that The Beatles are among the most overrated bands of all time. My hope was that this generator will change my mind. In a way, it has. Admittedly, there are definitely more of their songs I like than I realized. However, this album sure as hell won't help. Even many Beatles fans I come across online are saying this album was one of their worst albums, if not their worst album. What was the point of including this album? It's not their first album, it's not revolutionary, and nearly half of the songs are cover songs. I didn't have fun with The Beatles this morning. Favorite Track: "Please Mr. Postman"
It always freaks me out to listen to the early stuff with all the covers. Nothing wrong, but nothing great.
- The harmonies in All My Loving are so simple yet SO good - Def my favorite version of Till There Was You - Lots of fun songs but no real standouts besides the two above
How can one even think of this album above 3 when, once again, it is a 1960s band stealing the swagger (and sometimes the lyrics) of black artists? The covers on here are just not good and it sounds like an early band just finding their sound. If the Beatles were known for their complex harmonies, you have to also give them a minus when literally every song incorporates the most basic of triads and unisons. Highlight: All I've Got To Do
First three tracks start this one really strong, capping off with the excellent classic “All My Loving,” but after that this album quickly devolves into one of the Fab Four’s least essential albums. They were brilliant hit-makers at this point, but it’d take the following A Hard Day’s Night to prove that they could sustain that excellence across an album’s runtime.
What to say about easily the least essential and interesting Beatles album, hastily recorded to cash in on their popularity, in the period where singles were king and albums not cohesive artistic statements? A big step down from Please Please Me, the songs of which had been tried and tested and honed in their live act, and obviously not a candle to the albums that would follow. Two "Beatles songs" you've heard of and one of which is weak, two extremely mediocre cover staples, and a whole lot of unmemorable junk. Its lack of representation on pretty much every compilation I can think of like Red Album, 1, Rock Band, etc. says it all. No, it's not awful, it's the Beatles, but it's bottom-tier Beatles and does little to justify its appearance amongst their 6 other albums on here, or their better and more historic debut.
This album has some absolute classics. Lots of songs that are embedded in pop culture. A titan to stand the test of time. I just hate the Beatles
It is a boring album. The songs are uninteresting. The originals aren't novel or executed particularly well, and the covers are mediocre. Their cover of "Roll Over, Beethoven," surely makes Chuck Berry roll over in his own grave to this day. The lyrics of the originals are juvenile. It's not necessarily a bad album, but it's hardly worth a listen. It truly deserves all those proto-boy band comparisons. I loathe the idea that every piece of art that a composer has made is worth revisiting, especially when some of those first pieces are lackluster. You can appreciate who the Beatles are at their apex without pretending that their first stabs at music are worth consumption.
Yeah, wish we could skip some of this with the Beatles… Yeah, I really dislike early period Beatles. This is kinda horrible stuff. I want to give it a 1 just to be that person. But… 2 because everyone argues with me like I am condoning murder or something when I voice this opinion. So they get +1 for moving the masses. But Boolean rating: HARD NO. The only reason anyone thinks I need to hear this is because it’s the Beatles, otherwise there are dozens of more important jazz and blues albums from this period that didn’t make the list.
Alright... this album really isn't good. It gets annoying and if you blink you miss half the album. I've heard so much better music from this band and the genre that I would much rather listen to. I can appreciate it knowing where the band goes from here, but that doesn't mean I like it.
zzz... užasna obrada »roll over beethoven«, strašno nešto. osim toga iznenađujuće okej? al i dalje blago naporno, i imao sam osjećaj kao da traje sat vremena, a ne pola sata. bilo bi dosta više albuma ovih šupaka, al ostao mi je još jedan (društvo usamljenih srdaca narednika bibera), vidjet ćemo i kakav je taj
This will probably be the worst beatles album on the list. 6 of the songs are covers. There's only a few memorable songs. I'll give it a 2. It's simply nowhere near their other stuff and better albums were realeased this year
No way these guys ever make it big
It’s fine and romance-focused, but in the grand scheme of their discography, it’s low tier with not that many hits. My standout is Don’t Bother Me.
not bad, not good. feels like samey mediocre listening. Unlistenable in stereo, and the mono is a bit muddy. standouts: Money, Please mister postman. Yet to be impressed by the beatles.
4th Beatles album since I started here, and this one mostly bored me. It's not terrible, there's even a couple of fun moments... but overall it's clearly not their best work. I can absolutely enjoy the "early Beatles" (A Hard Day's Night is a cult album for me), but this one is too dated even for me. It sounds flat and formulaic, very 50s-like, and not many songs really stand out. Did we really need it here ? The 6 other Beatles albums on the list are already more than enough to give us a good overview of their work... 4/10
Third or fourth Beatles album… still doesn’t quite land for me. Just a string of pop-formatted tracks and covers with pretty childish lyrics, not without a certain outdated charm though.
Idk it was a bit boring, kinda similar to their other albums
I thought the remastered Version was poorly mixed but no they're just that quiet
Honestly, why is this one even here? I've always thought it's the absolute weakest in their discography (even behind the much-maligned Beatles for Sale). The covers are a bit too obvious (come on, we don't need *another* rendition of "Money" and "Roll Over Beethoven"), and "All My Loving" aside, the originals are uninspired. If you're interested in the Beatlemania phase of their careers, do yourself a favor and just listen to Please Please Me instead.
The Beatles before they were actually good. Simple tunes performed well, basically. It's wild to think that in just two years they'd be releasing Rubber Soul, followed by Revolver and Sgt. Pepper's. The gulf between this and those is vast.
The Beatles – With The Beatles (1963) On Day 106, I found what I consider to be one of the weaker albums in The Beatles' catalog. While I recognize their massive contribution to everything we enjoy in mainstream music today, they’ve never really "done it" for me personally. I don't hate them, but this record feels pretty typical of my general level of enjoyment with their early sound. The production is high-energy for 1963, and the Motown covers show off their roots, but it lacks the immaculate depth of their later masterpieces. It’s a culturally important project, but as a listening experience in 2026, it falls into the "passable" category. A definitive 2/5.
Not their best.
This was very meh
I had that haircut too at one point... In 2007...
till there was you is the best song
Just can’t get all the way through it. Never been a big Beatles fan, especially the earlier stuff. That goes for almost anything from the early 60s. I acknowledge that many have stood on the Beatles’ shoulders, and for that they deserve great recognition. But it just doesn’t do it for me.
I liked it, All my loving is goated, but its a very primitive sound and nothing really outstanding
Track 1: the guitar riff sounds out of place during the verses. Good vocals. Track 2: don't like how he lingers on the "I" of "All I gotta do" at some parts Track 3: good guitar work and vocal harmony Track 4: bizarre sounding intro. Don't like the lyrics but the instrumental is nice Track 5: throwaway cover Track 6: good cover overall. Don't like how he pronounces "saw" as "sar" Track 7: a little dull and repetitive Track 8: intro sounds dumb and not a fan of the original song so not a fan of the cover Track 9: vocals sound a little rough but nice harmonies Track 10: Singers are not well synced. Hate the first line of lyrics Track 11: annoying and repetitive Track 12: decent cover but pretty forgettable Track 13: forgettable throwaway song Track 14: pretty good cover. Guitar comes in slightly late in the intro
Never been a great Beatles fan.
Te druk en te rommelig om echt lekker te luisteren. Ondanks dat ik weet dat ze veel voor de muziekwereld hebben betekent kan ik het niet echt waarderen.
Eh
Dnf
honest to god the only difference I see between this era of The Beatles and The Monkees is The Beatles never wrote a pop song I like as much as I'm A Believer don't see any reason this belongs on the list outside of "oh but these guys eventually do more interesting things" which, a) debatable b) then just include the more interesting things
2.25 - The Beatles aren't really my thing. This is fine, but it just makes me feel like I'm a kid again being drug around Shoe Carnival with my mom.
Of course they revolutionized music and broke new ground, but man am I NOT a fan of the Beatles. I would never put this album on to listen casually. The whole thing just kind of sounds square to me.
An outdated one. Not the Beatle's signature standing across the timeline.
This is a weak Beatles album. Covers and mostly forgettable songs. Please please me would eank higher for being their debut and on A Hard Days Night the hit machine started to roll. Sandwiched between these two, With the Beatles is forgettable and an unnecesary inclusion in this list
empezó y me gustó después siguió y siguió y lo termino por no gustarme
Wieso sind die so berühmt? Falls die anderen Alben so sind verstehe ich das nicht. Dieses war leider auch nicht wirklich was für mich.. :C
Fand ich nicht gut.
Mid-off shadowboxing
Rating: 4/10 An album about John Lennon wanting a little child to hug him tightly, but sometimes just hug him. Either way it's some pedo shit even for 1960's standards.
My first time listening to a Beatles album and probably the last. They sound exactly like how i thought they would sound. Meh.
