Reviews (page 8 of 14)

a weak 4 but you know, it's a fine album

Good album, more pop and love songs than their earlier stuff.

Whats to say about a Beatles album? A step up from Please please me, and enjoyable. I cant see myself listening to this very much though. Great album cover tho.

Ja gilla de!!

beedle

They can play.

The first of 1001! Great melodies and harmonies although surprisingly quite a lot of songs I didn’t know (excluding All My Loving of course!). Forgot about Til there was you too (Cooky may have played this?). Enjoyed the album whilst tapping my foot although still think I prefer the later Beatles stuff!

Without context, this rough collection of underwritten ditties is a 2. But knowing the whole and why, this becomes a 4.5.

Heard it...

Really enjoyed the music though I found the mix kind of distracting where the majority of the instrumentation was coming from the left and the majority of the vocals from the right. It seemed like they were playing too hard with the stereo idea and that little shift might work but I found this shift so dramatic as to be distracting. I listened via headphones which also may have heightened the effect over the type of amplification that might have been used to playback this music in the era it was made. Listened to the album a second time not using headphones and the effect worked out much better though I still found it to be more pronounced than necessary.

Really not my style but very influential and an all time classic that deserves respect purely for its importance

Lots of great Beatles originals, but oddly more covers than I would have expected. And the covers... well, they didn't really do anything to make them different and unique, like Orgy's "Blue Monday", for example...

While this isn't their best work, it is still pretty enjoyable. Also, 6 of the 14 songs are actually cover songs. 3.6 / 5

it’s the Beatles so of course it’s amazing, not my absolute fave of theirs but you can never go wrong with them.

Good album… sounds like a breakout to American Rock n Roll

Another great Beatles album. I was nervous since this was an older one and I'm not a huge fan of their old stuff but again, I hadn't listened to any of it fully. I really liked this one too, not as much as Revolver, but still up there. All my Loving, Please Mister Postman, Roll Over Beethoven and even some others all stood out to me. Parts of this album felt just right for when it came out but other parts seemed ahead of their time. Pretty cool album cover too but nothing special.

This was the first Beatles selected for me on this site (in a row of almost 120 albums now) and I'm glad that this was selected because I like too much of this band (not surprisingly), but I didn't listen to the cover versions from their initial years and this album (specially B-side) was a great experience for me. A great band playing the greatest songs and making history. It's not the best Beatles, of course, but worth each song.

Early Beatles, but can't go wrong here.

Great classic Beatles

Lekker Beatles album

It won’t be long - E to C/G chord change is so great. Favourite song on record. All I’ve Got to Do another favourite. Enjoyed the Motown covers, mainly Please Mr Postman. Some strange production with panning but vocal harmonies throughout are amazing. 4/5 - good easy Sunday afternoon album

A lot of familiar songs but they aren't really that great of songs.

Another great Beatles album. All flows so well together. Not my favourite of theirs, but that doesn't mean much considering the competition

An enjoyable listen. A few really great songs, but nothing earth shattering.

The beginning of something ridiculous, I love this record

not their best work, but a great foundation for the rest of their excellent discography.

It's a solid album. I like all of the songs on it!

Sgt Pepper Beatles > early Beatles. Good album with some strong tracks. And not their best.

Enjoyable, if a bit redundant.

good album. a little tinny for me, but still, solid

Can’t hate on the Beatles

Buen álbum completo.

I think either this or Beatles for Sale is my least favourite... But fuckin' hell like it's still jampacked with tunes and just bloody excellent.

I can see how this would cement The Beatles as icons. This sound is even still so unique and them. Till There Was You is a great cover.

The Bugs? Who are these guys?

Bueno, los Beatles. Música blandita no muy de mi gusto, pero a la que hay que reconocer la "pioneridad" Hits claros, de dos minutitos. No es su mejor disco, pero es original

I didn't know the Beatles did so many covers. I have always the liked the Beatles and this album definitely sounds like early Beatles to my ear. Top 3 All my Loving, Please Mister Postman, and That's What I Want. 4 of 5

Solid/classic

Solid pace, enjoyable but not their best. Will definitely be listening to it again soon.

This album was an interesting mix of originals and covers. The covers were more enjoyable than many of the original tracks. It was a nice representation of their early style.

Early beet and good

probably the best Beatles music I’ve listened too - I appreciated the shortness of the songs. pretty sweet and funky 🫕

very nice i enjoyed it

I don't know, I've got the same issue with this as I have generally with the early catalog. Nothing stands out all that much. Very good but not yet quite exceptional (except as a pop phenomena) The originals are very much standard pop love songs of the love you so much/why you do me so wrong variety, while the covers lack the rock power of the originals (with the notable exception of Money).

“You ever hear of this obscure band called the Beatles? It’s like beetle but with beat instead of beet. Pretty good”

Early Beatles isn't my favorite Beatles, but still a good listen. They revolutionized pop music.

Knew most of the album, nice to listen from start to end.

Just a fun early album by the Beatles. Not revolutionary or genre changing but fun.

Short, sweet, and simple but oh so good. Roll over beethoven gets me every time

Awesome stereo album

Not my style of music

Follow up to first Beatles album, still a few covers, but they start to hone it in and you can see how Hard Days Night is next

I guess I can understand why this album is on the list because it was the first Beatles record released in North America, but it's like half cover songs, and a lot of the originals aren't particularly groundbreaking relative to what they would be doing in a couple years after this. I will say that the recording quality is excellent. Very clear instrumentals and vocals. You can also hear them starting to make good use of stereo. 4/5

I forget how much the early Beatles are just surf rock. Surprisingly good for an album that's mostly covers. Highlights for me are "It Won't Be Long" and "All My Loving". Also "Roll Over Beethoven".

Not peak Fab Four but still plenty of classics.

Collection of songs from the midst of Beatlemania Didn't expect early beatles would be this good

Not the best Beatles album, but still great

Klassiker, poprock, fængende, historier, simpelt

12/2 A damn good album, smooth 60s jams, it’s the fuckin Beatles. Standout Tracks: It Won’t Be Long, All I’ve Got To Do, All My Loving, Don’t Bother Me, Till There Was You, Devil In Her Heart, Not A Second Time

Classic Beatles

Biitlesiä ja semmostahan se oli. Pari tuttua bizukkaa, leivontamusaa. Ihan okei.

i like it! <3 i don't have much thoughts other than i've heard george harrison talk down on "don't bother me" as his first song on a beatles album which makes me sad, i think it's really lovely

It was aight, a true classic from the beatles, a well renowned band. All My Loving is my favourite.

This is fine. Certainly not as good as what they put out later on, but still a solid 6/10.

All My Loving for The Beatles must stem from other albums. Not their greatest work.

liked it honestly

wasn't expecting it to be so good. talks a lot about love lol. no skip album, a bit sad the vocals are only in the right earbud :( my favs are Please Mister Postman, Roll Over Beethoven, You Really Got a Hold On Me, Devil In Her Heart, Money (That's What I Want). I'd probably listen to this if I wanna get in a happy mood with old love songs.

Not my favourite Beatles album by any means. However, in the context of musical importance, time period, this albums eventual influence on other musicians, and the Beatles overall discography and unparalleled success… this is hard to rate too low. I did enjoy it.

Pretty good, 3.5ish. not the beatles best album as it leans towards pop.

The Beatles sure got better as they went along. This early 60s pop-rock generally doesn't do it for me.

This was my favorite of all of the Beatles albums we've had so far. I like the old-timiness of it. Anyway, they're the Beatles. Nothing else for me to say here.

Al final se pimcha un poco, es muy meloso

Quizá el peor de los Beatles y sigue siendo un buen disco

it's another early beatles album. without listening to them side by side the sound feels more or less identical to how it was on hard days night, so i don't really have much new to say other than that i think i did enjoy this one a bit more? i think it's just a little more energetic maybe. idk. honestly this got pretty close to a 4 but god is the stereo mix absolute clown shit. george martin was really on some bullshit putting the vocals all in the right ear and everything else in the left.... except for on "roll over beethoven" where the clapping is in with the vocals for some reason?? for a lot of albums recorded around that time, i feel like i could kinda reason that kind of decision away as like, "oh the producers wanted it to feel like you're standing where the mic is", but like. these lads were also playing the instruments, yeah?? so like, am i sitting in their laps or what????? where am i here??????? .....so its 3 stars for a beatles album again. it's pretty good but i can't really see myself coming back to it except to compare with a hard day's night. and i definitely wouldn't come back to the stereo version, good lord....

I love the Beatles but this is a stupid pick for the list. Very basic stuff. Sure for the kind of music they were making it’s good. But definitely the list already has Hard Days Night which is so much better.

This album inspired Leila, Lina and I to watch yesterday again. Please Mr postman was my fav We said Little Child was sus

I really thought I was done with the Beatles. Well, could be worse. —- Certainly not their best album, but I never felt annoyed - mildly bored at worst. It felt lacking in the originality and creativity that characterizes their more famous work; in fact, a good chunk of the songs on this album (almost half!) are covers. The sound is more typical of early 60s pop. It still manages to be fairly charming, though. Of all the Beatles albums on the list, I don’t think this one was particularly worthy of inclusion. 3

Some day we’ll get to one of the good ones.

Exactly what’s written on the tin. Nothing less. Nothing more. A classic Beatles album without knocking my socks off.

Not the era of The Beatles I’d pick to put on but I still like it. There’s a time and a place for it. A nice sunny BBQ or cleaning up music. All My Loving is a classic. You Really Got a Hold On Me probably my fave. Till There Was You is a hidden gem. But there’s something about Roll Over Beethoven that just annoys me.

Not the best Beatles Cheesy almost

Just not my thing. A bit samey.

I love a good play on words so I was happy to listen to the opener; it won’t be long till i belong. Initially, I liked that the songs were short in length but then it started to feel like some songs lacked any introduction. All my loving and Don’t bother me felt like two different versions of the same song. The sound thus kind of got too repetitive throughout. It’s a nice dance record with lots of songs that are able to stand out as songs you’d want to dance to and jive. It is just musically conservative in that sense. This is giving me the impression that the album was rushed, especially knowing it’s their second album following their crazy debut. Till There Was You is such a beautiful song! Loved the Mr. Postman cover too. It matched the theme of longing and desperation of the previous tracks. Yet, in a way, you wouldn’t really be able to tell that this is a beatles album from any other band from that time, which is funny considering its title. —— POEM —— greens of orange and yellow sprout where your petals kiss mine greys jive across to blues down the teleline red is the white I chew and swallow pink in the skin is a world full of horror true is the color ought you stay my lover

Very solid Beatles

A fun sophomore album that doesn't have the highest of highs. Definitely not an essential listen but one it's nice to have heard

listening to earlier stuff appreciate the beatles a bit more because honestly their big songs are so so so commercial and oversaturated it's hard to listen without a little cynicism or jadedness. i know i've said that about other artists but the beatles are king(s) of this for me. snappy saccharine love song after love song worked well for the beginning of this album, for me at least. fav: it won't be long (but money goes hard as a walk-in for an alimony hearing)

Went in with few expectations, but it's fairly groovy and easy-listening stuff. No standout tracks, but it's a consistent LP that certainly deserves a couple of spins. 2.5/5

first 5 ish songs slap but then it just gets kinda generic imo

it's ephemeral, i've listened to this multiple times in the past and again now and still don't remember a single thing about it

I’ve never particularly been a massive “early Beatles” fan, and I think part of it is that they were probably a more interesting live band than they were a recorded one at least for a few albums, so lo and behold, having to actually sit down and listen to one of those early albums in full didn’t overly wow me. It’s clearly a band on the ups with room to grow, there’s some great performing synchronicity between everyone and you can start to see the bones of what really works, but it is really a pretty simple collection of love songs and they don’t have the material yet to push past it, good as their little beat love songs and covers can be.

Sweet and innocent, amazing in it's way, but not the Beatles I'm looking for

inetersting lo ke fueron antes de su peak y tambien saber ke esto era lo k c escuchaba en la radio de la epoca sta chevere, no lo escucharia en el auto

Highlights: All My Loving, Till There Was You, Roll Over Beethoven, Hold Me Tight, You Really Got A Hold On Me, Not A Second Time, Money (That's What I Want) One of the few records of theirs I've always skipped. It didn't look too interesting, and honestly I don't like this early phase of theirs. Of those earlier songs I like their covers of rock classics and their big early hits, but those are trapped on a record full of filler slop. A track like Don't Bother Me is just too cringe to bear. Also, I've heard most of the cover tracks as the Anthology versions, so these sound a bit off to me. For instance I Wanna Be Your Man sounds wrong to me for some reason. I like the Anthology version a bit better. All in all the record is just ok - not as fun as the debut and not as intriguing as the later records.

In hindsight, this feels like a really lazy second album. There's a reason why All my Loving has remained the only real enduring song from this album. It still has that early Beatles pop vibe, so not terrible, but not even a great pop album.

Powerful Neu

Well performed and listenable Beatles but of course mainly covers.

The songs are so short! It's very cohesive (in the sense that they all feel the same honestly) and very simple. Not anywhere close to as experimental and intricate as I like from their later songs but they do the trick. An enjoyable solid album but nothing special. Little Child is creepy though.

I just don’t see the point of this. Why put more than two or three albums per artist, especially if it’s THE band everyone already knows, especially if it’s one of their most unremarkable albums? The most notable tracks are covers that are lessor than their originals. Revolver, Sgt Pepper, and White Album are really all you need.

Imagine being a teen girl in the 60s hearing John Lennon singing "Please Mr. Postman"... It's well known that The Beatles didn't get very interesting until Rubber Soul. But nothing is more boring than a jabroni ass Custer who professes their dislike of the Beatles. You assholes aren't very special. I want to know what you think 1964 was offering that was any better. The whole vibe was square and lane. At least The Beatles were fresh! Eat my ass.

Decent

little bit underrated. better than please please me but still overall one of the weaker beatles album. light 7/10. first listen tracklist ranking: 1. Not A Second Time 2. All My Loving 3. Til There Was You 4. Money 5. It Won't Be Long 6. All I've Got to Do 7. Don't Bother Me 8. You Really Got A Hold On Me 9. I Wanna Be Your Man 10. Roll Over Beethoven 11. Devil In Her Heart 12. Please Mr Postman 13. Hold Me Tight 14. Little Child

Solid album, I could say more.

⭐⭐⭐ Det finns tidiga och sena Beatles. Älskar sena men tidiga not so much. Bäst är All my loving, Please mister postman, Roll over Beethoven, I wanna be you man, Not a second time

Wasn’t bad. Dunno who these kids are but someone needs to get them some LSD

simple but part of their history. That is the best way to describe this album. I knew I would have to listen to The Beatles at some point since I was expecting to see Sergeant peppers Lonely Hearts Club Band to appear. This album is from a very early part of their career and it is only on here because it (alongside Please Please me) just about marks the beginning of a career that would influence music for the rest of the 20th century.

#367/1001. The original boy band strikes again. Most of the songs are world wide standards and classics - of course some of the covers have equally famous originals - but surprisingly there are a few not so well known songs here as well. The band is young and plays quite tight most of the time, but better things were yet to come. For me this is still more or less the pastische and cover era Beatles.

Ik had meer verwacht

Fine but boring. They weren't doing amazing stuff yet.

it won’t be long: 6/10 all i’ve got to do: 7/10 all my loving: 7/10 don’t bother me: 5/10 little child: 5/10 till there was you: 6/10 please mister postman: 7/10 roll over beethoven: 6/10 hold me tight: 6.5/10 you really got a hold on me: 7/10 i wanna be your man: 4/10 devil in her heart: 6/10 not a second time: 6/10 money (thats what i want): 6/10

like fine, but no need for it to be on here

I think that Beatles are probably one of my most controversial artists. I recognize that they were hugely influential and important for music as we know it. And that they were mega popular in their time. I just don't think their music is all that good... It's telling that my standout track from the album is a cover and not a Beatles original Standouts Roll Over Beethoven 3/5

This is good, but it's no where near the caliber of the albums that come after.

It's kind of wild to give this album a three, as it's The Beatles, but frankly I like just about all of their output except for the first few albums.

Ironic to receive this on the heels of The Rolling Stones first album as the standard dichotomy is Beatles vs Stones. I've always fallen on the Beatles side of the argument, but I still don't think they should also have seven albums on the list. Plus the Lennon, McCartney and Harrison albums to boot. It feels appropriately early to what they would become, a handful of covers, bones of something that would come later. It was fine but I wouldn't add it to essential listening.

It's weird to realize that this album was released just a few months before the Beatles' landmark Ed Sullivan Show performance...these are definitely good songs, but none of them seem like the kind of thing that would provoke the screaming, fainting mania that the band would generate. Listening to this album with the knowledge of what the Beatles would become is fascinating; you can hear the roots of what's to come, but it's all surrounded in the trappings of traditional '60s pop.

Least favorite Beatles album so far. It was fine but lacks the creativity of subject matter of the later albums. Seemed more straightforward rock and roll.

I mean how is this the first Beatles album I get. That makes me think there’s at least 5 on here because I can think of 5 more “influential” right off the top of my head. It won’t be long is classic Beatles. Catchy but not a ton of substance. Well written and good drums. All I’ve gotta do is fun. Nothing really special beyond that. I do like the humming part to end it. Same feeling about all my loving. Cool harmonies on this one. Well written. Still just a pretty good song. I like dot. Bother me a lot. This is a banger. Love the chorus. Little child is really goofy. Cool harmonica, rest of it needed to stay in the 60s. Saved from being an awful song bu the awesome harmonica solo. Cool drums again on til there was you. Rest of it is fine. Cool guitar too. Production and songwriting is really good on postman, again it just didn’t last the test of time. Lyrics are not really relatable at all at this point. Roll over Beethoven is much better. Love the guitar on this one. Great writing again. Great solo in the back half. Hold me tight could still get play today. Simple but effective guitar. Great writing. Very catchy. Nice change of pace with hold on me, but still sticks to the Beatles roots. Great guitar solo again on I wanna be your lover. This is another banger. Wish it was longer honestly. Devil in her heart is fine. Another one that’s very dated. Cool guitar again tho. Same thing with not a second time. Money is a banger. Great way to close out the album. With that being said I’ll go back to my original statement -there’s *at least* 5 better Beatles albums than this. With that being said it was still a fun listen. 3.3/5.

Well that was.... cute? They were obviously enamored with rock and roll at the time, and who can blame them. But I prefer the later Beatles when they got all weird and creative.

Some of that was pretty good. I reckon if they stick with it they might do quite well.

Very weird to hear stuff mixed with the band panned hard left and the vocals hard right A bit cheesy doo wop teen music

i can understand how beatle mania started after listening to this tbf

Not great but I think they’ve got something.

Opens with three bangers, then proceeds to some good covers and just alright originals. As much as I’ll happily go to bat for the Beatles on any given day, I’m not sure that this one warrants an entry on the list. I guess you can hear where they were coming from and compare it to where they were going; the speed of scope of their evolution is pretty startling. It is not unpleasant to listen to, but it just pales in comparison to their other work. Sorry. But it is a fine artifact from their boy band era. Also, the mix is woefully dated, even with the remaster.

Weirdly feels like a sophomore slump to me. Looking at the ratings though it seems like I am in the minority on this.

Standard early Beatles era fare, but there’s a handful of great tunes.

Sometimes I forget that The Beatles were the granddaddies of the boyband structure. This album reminded me.

Day 1 Before: Its kinda crazy that I started this new album journey because I wanted to listen to more music that wasn't the Beatles. And then the first album I get, IS a Beatles album. A lot of people are really hard on this album, and while it's not their best one, it still has some great tracks on it. I may be a little biased, cuz I'm a big fan of their earlier work too, but it's such a vibe and I really like the more dark energy compared to Please Please Me. For me, this album is like an essence of early Beatles, and I think it does what it wants too very well. The guitar, the vocals and the covers they chose, just feel like they fit so well on here. But I feel I can't really rate it fairly, cuz I've heard it so many times it just kinda becomes something I play without realizing I'm listening to it. Like I'm so used to it, I can't really feel any new emotions towards it. Lastly, this album cover has always been kinda funny to me. They're all standing in a line, and then there's Ringo at the bottom?? Favorite(s): All My Loving, Roll Over Beethoven, Please Mister Postman

Fun! Beatles are just good vibes. I enjoyed this album but it’s not back to back bangers like some other ones.

Some good songs in this album, even some new which were to me. During the second half I started to hear it as a barbershop quartet and couldn't un-hear it after that. The stand out songs were my favourites.

Far from my favourite Beatles album, but there are a few small teasers of what’s still to come when they begin to get more experimental.

I prefer The Beatles later work when they were all up to their eyeballs on LSD.

Not the best of the Beatles. But it’s still the Beatles.

a Classic, but definely in the lower end of Beatles albums

So I like the Beatles. Heard all their music, listened to every album, every song. I was pleasantly surprised at Hard Days Night, for despite it's age, had a lot of great songs with good melodies and rhythm. This album, however, was lacking. You have a lot of classic covers, lots of original songs, but all it managed to do was highlight how inexperienced they were at the time. The songs and performances just missed that 'wow' factor that their other music has. Still perfectly fine old school music, but they definitely can be better

Another Beatles album that is early in their careers and is overall mid. There are a few bangers on this album, but I still can’t enjoy it while knowing there is better.

One day, I will understand their greatness. Today is not that day.

Had quite a few songs I've never heard and plenty where I liked a cover version more

7/10 Favourites: All I’ve Got To Do Till There Was You ⭐️ You Really Got A Hold On Me

I wonder, will all the Beatles albums be on this list, or are there actually some universally recognized bad releases?

I've never really given the Beatles any attention in the past, but obviously I've heard a lot of their songs over the years regardless just because of how huge the group were. This album was mostly new to me, however. I really can't complain about the listen, it was all listenable, if a little on the unremarkable side. It's undeniably Beatles and sounds like pretty much everything else I know by them. Not sure I understand the success of the band off the basis of this album, especially considering what else was around in the same era, but I'd also have been perfectly content to listen to this album. Straight 3.

By today's standards this is a high 2. But the reality is that these guys setup all the expectations of good music. Not necessarily with this album but it was good enough to get them on the radar. With that in mind low 3

It's a pretty good album

I'm on a real run of "it's okay" reviews. There's a time and a place for early Beatles stuff and that time is probably the 60s. A bit like the Rolling Stones debut album I've already had, it was interesting to hear how the band sounded in their early days, but didn't really have any songs I'd return to.

It's is a Beatles album.

I love the Beatles in their later years. Early Beatles is too saccharine: fake, sweet, cloying. For personal enjoyment, this gets a 2. For importance it's a 4, so it's going to land in the middle with a 3.

Was only a matter of time before I got a Beatles album. Their earlier stuff gets shafted a bit but I thought this was quite decent. Even though this doesn't even come close to their best stuff, the boys still very clearly had an eye for catchy melodies as displayed here and the instrumental work is also quite solid. Weird mixing choices on this though, with the vocals taking up the right channel while the instrumental takes up the left. I didn't mind it too much but it is very strange. This is a fine album overall, but it does get a bit repetitive as it goes on and obviously this is far from the best thing these guys would release

It was good but it wasn't great

It’s a shame that so many bands and singers from the 50’s and 60’s were forced (or did on their own accord) to do covers, especially on their early albums. This album suffers for that sadly.

I just can't connect with the early Beatles stuff. I really gave it a go here but it's just not for me. It feels so oddly dated to me in a way a lot of other music, just as old or older, doesn't.

An interesting listen - I can almost imagine the band starting to play stuff they were more interested in as they finished the album

Está bien. No me voló la cabeza realmente. La etapa primera de los Beatles siento quedó medio eclipsada con el tiempo. Se torna algo monótono con el correr del álbum. 6/10

The Beatles are always gonna be mid to high for me, fun songs, easy listening

Good album. Not my favourite era of the Beatles but you can hear the makings of the greatness still to come.

Ikke i nærheden af at være mit yndlings Beatles-album (Er mere til deres senere lyd), men ikke desto mindre er det et godt sophomore album med en række originale bangers og et par solide covers. Synes desværre at albummet er en smule frontloaded. Standouts: All I've Got To Do, All My Loving, Till There Was You (Smukt cover!)

Decent

3rd British pop/rock band in a row, 2nd Beatles album so far. Definitely not The Beatles’ best, some good gems in there but overall, seemingly like most British pop/rock, very basic and middle of the road. Likes: All I’ve Got To Do; All My Loving; Till There Was You; You Really Got A Hold On Me

Interesting how after 200 listens I got no Beatles, and it's the 2nd album in a week. However, I think this is their weakest entry on the list and will be the only 3 stars I will give to this legendary band, the boys here just haven't found their sound, yet I'm afraid.

De los mas aburridos de los Beatles... y eso es mucho decir. Les reconozco la dedicación ahre. Nota: 2.7

I just don’t understand the idea behind these guys singing these songs. Sure you can love the music. But it should have just stopped there. These aren’t great covers. Sure the Beatles are great but this album isn’t.

Not my favorite listen for all the obvious reasons. If you're in an oldies mood it's fine.

really good for its time but knowing the history of them it’s kinda meh also wth was little child

pretty good so far, but the beatles can do better enjoying this a lot little child is a bit creepy there's some folk in there too wish the songs had more substance

Important evolutionary step. However, it pales in comparison to their later work. That many covers and for them to mostly be the best tracks does reduce its value.

In stereo all vocals are right ear and all instruments are left. Like half of the songs are covers. What you would expect of early beatles, fine early 60s rock and pop.

infelizmente não é um dos meus favoritos dos beatles, visto que eu não curto muito a época ié ié ié deles.

Consider me underwhelmed

Alright I guess. Nothing standout, few songs that I know but the rest of the album mid.

They definitely became more interesting with time

A little bit underwhelmed to be honest, I was expecting something incredible after hearing all the hype around the Beatles, but I don’t think this album was all that. With that being said it was still a good album and I did enjoy it, just not as much as I thought I would. Favourite - Please mister postman

Fine. Nothing standout. Maybe I’m acclimating to the Beatles song a bit, maybe I’m just feeling generous

These songs are all fine, but for me they don't stand out from the crowd of the contemporaries in the same way that the Beatles' later albums do. But it's still interesting to hear how they rose from these middles to their later heights. This album seems more or less like what it is: A product rushed out to capitalise on the Beatles' immediate popularity, with a bunch of filler covers. Till There Was You is just awful sentimental trash, it was good to find it was a cover. I am amazed to find reviewers on this site giving it 5 stars. I can understand enjoying it, but if you give this 5 stars, how are you reviewing their other albums? This is almost objectively worse than, I dunno, anything from Rubber Soul onwards.

Interesting in that it's not really all that good, at least not in terms of Beatles records. Cover versions and mostly quite shallow pop ditties. A little bit stodgy in places. Still though, 14 songs in 33 mins; and you can hear the potential. And some of those close harmonies; oof.

Bangerthon but these mixes are quite tragic! Why does it sound so bad? Also too many covers but i guess that’s a thing ppl did

It's fine. All My Loving is the clear standout. Not the best of the Beatles.

Fine album. Didn't do much for me. Not very inventive and nothing novel, but good nonetheless.

An interesting listen, as there seems to be a trend of hitting flawed debut albums of future superstars. This is far from their best work, but you can hear sprinklings of their potential in a brisk, energetic album

Good album with some good tracks, but an odd choice to have the stereo mix play most of the music on the left and most of the singing on the right. This could have used a better mix.

My first Beatles record here, and of the SEVEN included on the list, this one is easily the weakest. Of classic Beatles tracks, I'd only include All My Lovin’ from this one. There are a ton of covers and some better than others. I love John’s takes on Roll Over Beethoven and Money, but Please Mr. Postman is a stinker imo. A few other solid tracks with Devil In Her Heart and George’s first, Don't Bother Me. Overall, this one doesn't belong on the list, but it’s still the Beatles

Typical of this era of rock n’ roll with a mix of covers and original tracks. From my perspective not a stand out album, but I was 7 at the time of the release. The album did show signs of things to come. I enjoyed listening to it.

Not the best Beatles album by any means, but it’s still a really decent and charming one. While listening I felt genuinely happy — it’s full of love, instant smiles, and that warm, feel-good energy that makes you believe every day could actually be sunny. Songs like “All My Loving,” “It Won’t Be Long,” and “I Wanna Be Your Man” are pure early-Beatles magic. Every single track is good, catchy, and dripping with nostalgia. Even the covers feel fresh and full of joy. What really makes the album work is its lightness — it’s short, breezy, and never tries too hard. It just bounces along with those tight harmonies, simple riffs, and that unmistakable Beatles charm. It doesn’t have the depth or experimentation of their later work, but that’s not what it’s going for. This is early Beatles doing what they did best: making you smile and tap your foot without any complications. I really enjoyed it. Perfect comfort listen when you need something uplifting and nostalgic.

tenho meus problemas com os Beatles esse começou bom, sgt peppers tbm tinha começado bom esse é mais antigo tbm, quase ctz n vou gostar tanto mas it won’t be long tá bem feito slk, bem o que eu esperava deles nessa época ainda bem que as músicas deles são curtas, se esse estilo aqui deles eles ficassem estendendo n ia sair legal (só por n ser experimental) por enquanto continua enjoyable, em all I’ve got to do all my loving tbm é foda o problema deles principalmente nessa fase aqui é que a sonoridade/temática é tão fechadinha que ouvir muito enjoa, ent esse projeto fica nessa também don’t bother me tem um drum beat com a guitarra que fica bem bonitinho essa gaita em little child não ficou bacana - a lírica dependendo de o quão little for essa child fica bem paia till there was you é bacana, a percussão diferencia total a música tem dois covers aqui, legal please mister postman deve ter a versão original mais legal que essa, essa ficou meio caos sonoro bateria vocal gritado meio paia a equalização peca um pouco as vezes (obviamente, 1963) omg chuck berry riff roll on beethoven brilha melhor no chuck berry mesmo é, já enjoou pra mim em hold me tight esse you you you fica até legal a percussão de palma faz eu me sentir em uma apresentação de música em escola acaba por favor outro cover, legal descobri que os covers deles aqui são mais ou menos tem uns momentos que as melodias do John e do Paul martelam de forma chata o Ringo manda bem na bateria no geral, merece seu destaque I wanna be your man a agitação demora pra engatar, mas é bem feito nossa mas eles faziam bastante cover hein esse devil in her heart ficou mais legal que os outros, embora o vocal martele que é uma beleza not a second time tem um piano banger essa última é meio chata, nada demais né tenta pegar meio blues e não cola pq o John Lennon n faz a vibe por fim, a nota era o que eu esperava mesmo, tanto por conta de pessoalmente enjoar da sonoridade fechadinha curta repetir por 14 músicas quanto por reconhecer que muito aqui de fato funciona muito bem na sonoridade que se propôs na época até hoje 3.5/5 / 7/10, pra avaliar vai 3/5

Fine because it's the Beatles but not actually anything interesting.

Some good songs, but very mid-release from them. Favourite Songs: All I've Got to Do, All My Loving, Please Mister Postman. Least Favourite Songs: Little Child, I Wanna Be Your Man, Not a Second Time.

i am not resonating but its objectively good i am just not an old soul

Do we need every beatles album? This one isn't exactly big time seminal. Good enough Mr. Postman cover. But are the Marvelettes on here? Doubt it.

groovy 7/10

Ah, Beatlemania Beatles. It's not the best album ever, but it does give a good insight into what their early output was like. The number of covers on here should be a clue as to how this second album was released. It's still that early bouncy Scouse energy that shines through, but it's something they moved away from for a reason.

Bit samey and hasn’t aged that well. A few good tracks.

This album is pretty good, although obviously The Beatles made better. A good sophomore album, 7/10. ROLLL OVER BEETHOVEN! 3

I imagine this sounded pretty great when it came out

This is not the Beatles' greatest work by a long shot, but there is still plenty here to enjoy musically, and as a record of this period in their career. Beatlemania was already reaching a boiling point in the UK, and with the Fab Four's looming trip across the pond, the British Invasion would soon be truly underway. That's where this album finds us. And that is a really exciting moment in time to place yourself in, especially considering the momentously innovative albums they would be outputting just a few years later. The music here may not be as cutting edge, but always these four were ahead of the curve in some way. There are some great tracks on here though, "All My Loving" is a clear standout song, and remains a classic within The Beatles' catalogue. The opening track also leads into the album with great energy, and "Don't Bother Me" gives us our first George Harrison original on an album, and provides a bit of insight into his contributions to the band. There are a number of cover songs on here as well, that can come off naturally pretty derivative, I do enjoy their cover of Mr Postman however. Fav Track: 3 - All My Loving Best Three Track Run: 1, 2, 3

Not my favorite Beatles album

1 - It Won't Be Long (a fine opener whose call and response yeah's catch the listener's attention. The old-school rockabilly sound of the guitars is more of its era than anything else but has aged remarkably well) 4/5 2 - All I've Got to Do (a much more of-its-time follow up to the opener. It captures the 50s doo-wop and early rock and roll sound rather well but songs like these were dime a dozen in this period) 3/5 3 - All My Loving (probably the highlight of this album. A hit single its day but overshadowed by the singles that followed it in this phase of the Beatles' career. Not too much else to say about this one) 3,5/5 4 - Don't Bother Me (more wiry and frankly, more interesting, than the previous 2 tracks with a more unique shuffling beat and lyrics with a slightly harder edge than the previously fluffy songs. A fine deep cut all things considered) 4/5 5 - Little Child (sets itself apart right away with its bluesy start and harmonica peppered throughout. It actually captures a very unique sound, sort of a bluesy, R&B, surf rock vibe) 4/5 6 - Till There Was You (a much more pared down piece sung by Paul. Another unique combination with the guitar almost lending a Latin mood to it while Paul's performance recalls a show tune ballad) 4/5 7 - Please Mister Postman (a very obvious cover here that doesn't do anything too daringly different. John sounds a little more gruff on this song than most others so far) 3.5/5 8 - Roll Over Beethoven (another cover of a rock and roll classic. Much like the previous song it's a fairly 1:1 rendition of the original. All in all it functions well as a tribute to one of the Beatles' heroes) 3.5/5 9 - Hold Me Tight (a fun 50s style romp. Oddly enough, it sounds very high-school-dance to my ears. Not too much else to say beyond it's a fun track that comes and goes with relatively little impact) 3/5 10 - You Really Got a Hold on Me (a Motown classic as covered in the Beatles' recognizable early sound. Like the covers before it, it's played pretty straight without too many stylistic changes. The band does this classic tune service and it stands out among the rest of the poppy rock tracks that cover this album) 3.5/5 11 - I Wanna Be Your Man (another R&B track on this album whose energy and rapid-fire verses turn it into a garage rock track of sorts. Doesn't overstay its welcome but also could've gone just a little longer, that shuffle is infectious) 3.5/5 12 - Devil in Her Heart (a mellower piece full of trademark early Beatles harmonies. It's songs like these that make you realize just how big of a shift drugs-era Beatles really was; they went from this to Tomorrow Never Knows in less than 3 years...! A fine addition to this album late in its runtime) 3.5/5 13 - Not a Second Time (another R&B influenced track made distinct by the piano-led instrumental section halfway through. Despite that songs like these are very samey throughout this album; at least a couple could have been left off though this would shorten this already brisk walk of an album) 3/5 14 - Money (That's What I Want) (a welcome change for the final song of this album, this song is largely led by the piano, lending it a honky-tonk blues feel. John gets screechy on this song, the first time in a while. An early sign that the band had a harder edge than the bulk of this album led on. An excellent track to end things on) 4/5 OVERALL - 7.1/10

me gustó, nunca había escuchado un álbum de los beatles entero. rescato “till there was you” y “roll over beethoven” (totalmente sorprendida con la última, no sabía que también hacían ese tipo de género)

Annoying and creepy, The Beatles sound like weird little letches. Maybe everyone did at the time. Eventually turned it off to listen to The Flying Lizards.

Not a real beatles fan but still listened.

mmm los beatles, no me llena el alma

It's the Beebles! Can't believe they had women -fainting- over these songs. They're all perfectly alright, Rock n' Roll tripe.

Easy to listen to

Usually I prefer drug Beatles to pop Beatles. This starts off pretty strong with a track I wasn't familiar with in It Won't Be Long. A lot of these songs have a definite soul vibe to them, which is cool. I guess that's because a lot of these are Motown covers. Anyway, there are some good songs here, but not sure I'd rush back to this album. 3/5 probably but I could see an arguement for 4.

Even when the Beatles are meh they are great.

Definitely not their best album, it's very standard 60s rock and roll. Easy to listen to but there weren't any real hits that I'd want to revisit.

A clever homage to motown classics. Favourite track: All My Loving

It was cool, very 40s vibes

An album that the French call "Avec le Beatles" whatever that may mean, and an album referred to by famous music reviewer Barnabus Q. Fudge as "By the Beatles." That's some high praise and that lays bare the expectations we have going into this album. French commentary AND a word from the elusive Fudgester? The Beatles are actually underrated at this point. Between this endeavour and the cultural swing away from Beatles reverence, I've had cause go back and listen to them more intently. Name one group or person that churned out this many songs of this quality. I don't think that person/group exists. They were truly lightning ion a bottle. This isn't my favourite era of the Beatles, but you can't deny the general likeability of this 33 minute blast of artful pop mastery. Or you can. Whatever. Art is subjective. 3 HIGHLIGHTS: Hello Mr. Kurns me want money bad me sick

10/10 for the cover art, it has this minimalistic vibe that I quite like. But the release in itself it's the beatles when they were still a boys band, my favorite songs were covers of earlier songs and it's telling. Hopefully they got better with the time. Favorite Songs: All My Loving ; Please Mister Postman ; Money

The Beatles always seem to deliver on catchy songwriting and lovely harmonies. I’m personally more of a fan of their later work where they really experiment with different styles and themes. That’s not to say the songs aren’t enjoyable here, but there’s a similar formula and subject matter followed with most songs. Their version of Please Mr Postman is great but there’s always a soft spot for The Carpenters version for me. Not their best album overall but a solid 3/5 for me.

Buen albun para un viaje en carretera en un dia nublado.

muy bueno, pero no me vuela la cabeza, no es de mis preferencias musicales

Pleasant listen, but not their best work.

Beatles get a ton of hate from kids that reduce their entire discography to a handful of songs. I don’t love them either, but it’s cool to give their early rock stuff a listen. It almost sounds generic, but I know that’s just because of how influential they were. Honestly I’m enjoying their instrumental more than any of the vocals, I kinda wish I could strip them all out on a handful of these tracks. Enjoyed Roll over Beethoven. But that’s literally just a Chuck Berry song lol.

Just inklings of what they were going to be. Seems odd that there were so many covers, but the arrangements really were great and added to the Beatles folklore. 3+

not for me, I can see the appeal of the split audio, real instruments, and group vocals. Jaunty and fun, lyrics and swing that stand the test of time. Luckily the songs are pretty short, the album moves very quickly. early boy and cool

Quote from John "It's about the nearest it could get to knowing what we sounded like before we became the clever Beatles." You can hear the talent coming through but better to come.

Early Beatles albums are fun but not always a great sonic experience because of the limited 4 track ping pong recording technique.

Love this album

Favorite track(s): All My Loving, Till There Was You, I Wanna Be Your Man Heard before Previous rating: 6/10

It Won't Be Long... until they completely nail it. Rather patchy early effort although several signs of the genius about to unfold...

Love a lot of these songs, could cut out the covers though. Really nice album but not their best

This is only my second Beatles effort so far on this albums generator, and I really don't think this is a must listen. Even the more recognized tracks aren't really the 'best' of the Beatles. It sounds like '60s rock, there's nothing really new going on except for some real decent production work, which clearly supports their early popularity. Today in 2026, it's no longer particularly special, and there's other projects that show off their talents better. It's not a negative experience, it just lacks wow-factor. 2.8/5

About half covers and half originals. Not sure anyone ever needs to hear a bunch of white boys do Motown covers. The covers are a 2 at best, the originals probably a 3/ 3.5. All My Loving is a perfect pop song and that can't even save this. There are plenty of other Beatles albums on this list that are more worthy of your time.

thought i would hate it but not the worst

las mejores canciones, las versiones

6/10 Surprisingly weak album, all things considered. All My Living stands out, but the covers are uninspired and the rest of the self&written material sounds kinda lame. It is still the Beatles, so has a kind of weight and I don't regret hearing this, but it barely indicates where they went in the next 7years.

Decent early work here from the boys. 3.5 stars.

You can tell they’re a good band here, as you hear their influences through via covers and hear them working out their sound. Not yet great though.

Simplicity can be beautiful, and this album is a great example of that. At times it feels like a compilation exploring themes of youthful love and heartbreak. While it can get repetitive, it carries a strong sense of energy throughout. Looking at the song lengths, you could almost say The Beatles pioneered the SoundCloud wave half a century early. It's also interesting that 6 out of the 14 tracks are covers, though I found myself preferring the Beatles’ own compositions over the covers. The songs that stood out to me were "It Won't Be Long" and "All I've Got to Do". From the covers, my favorite was "You Really Got a Hold on Me". I'll also give a special mention to the weakest track, "Little Child", which breaks the strong momentum built by the songs before it.

I didn't hate listening to this. I didn't love it either. By their standards to come, it feels overly derivative and the production is a bit naff at times. Still cool vibes though.

I was expecting to know more of these songs for some reason. More covers than I was expecting to be honest, but I guess it makes sense for 1963.

the beatles literally had no reason to make anything before rubber soul

I've been willing to give the Beatles a chance on this list and they're definitely not my thing but this was decent enough

Unnecessary for this list but honestly decent

If it was 1965, would I consider this as a boyband album? OK, they are actually composing, and actually playing instruments. Well, not their best, but hey, it is at least in stereo. 5/10

First got this one CD in maybe 6th or 7th grade. Wanted to go through Beatles catalog chronologically I quickly abandoned that plan when I realized just how much their sound shifted over the years and how much more i appreciated their mid to late 60s work. I enjoy it more now without the weight of expected genius.

6/10 Well we all know what happened with these lads from Liverpool in the years that followed and this is an interesting piece of history in that regard, but standing aside from that, is it all that good? You can obviously hear the talent they have and their songwriting is certainly stepping in the right direction, but this is definitely more of a work in progress than the finished article. It feels a lot like bands in the 60s were given way more opportunity to develop their sound and grow. Would a band like this be given the time in the 2020s to work from Please Please Me and this album to become the band that would deliver albums like Revolver and Sgt Peppers? I suspect not, and that’s a massive shame. As I say, for the most part, this is really well performed and reasonably well written, but only All My Loving really stood out to me as a really excellent Beatles track, and there were too many covers that either didn’t live up to the quality of the originals, or didn’t add anything to make them particularly “Beatlesy”. There were moments in the songwriting where I could recognise little piece of melodic writing that hinted towards where they would develop their sound, so it was interesting in that regard, but it still never felt completely satisfying. That’s not to say I didn’t enjoy bits and pieces, and as a half hour album, it zipped by fairly quickly, but as a whole it was relatively underwhelming. I also don’t think this was a particularly significant step forward from Please Please Me in the way that A Hard Day’s Night would be only 8 months later. It gets an extra mark for historical significance, but if I’m in the mood for a Beatles album, this would be way down the list of what I’d pick. It Won't Be Long - We kick off with a prime slice of early Beatles. It’s not their best and most catchy work, but it’s pretty good and it has those classic Beatles harmonies that sound so nice. There’s nothing spectacular about it, but it’s decent pop rock music that does its thing in two minutes and doesn’t overstay its welcome. All I've Got To Do - Again, some lovely harmonies. It’s a well written little song, which you’d expect from Lennon and McCartney, but it’s not one of their best or most engaging melodic compositions. There’s some really nice stuff in there though. All My Loving - Ah, this is more like it. Superb melodies, great harmonies and a decent pace to the whole thing. It’s obviously not as adventurous and thoroughly developed as their later material, but it’s songs like this that gave them the popularity and foundation to build themselves up to that. Excellent stuff. Don't Bother Me - A George Harrison number now. It’s not bad, although it is perhaps a little unfocused. He’s knocking on the door of something with the melody in the chorus, but it doesn’t fully connect for me. The playing feels a touch sloppy in places too, weirdly. Little Child - You can hear that they’re trying out ideas as the songs roll by. Again, this is ok and shows a bit of promise, but doesn’t fully deliver on the concept. The vocals are great, I like the addition of the harmonica, but ultimately, it’s a bit throwaway. Till There Was You - A Spanish guitar influenced ballad now for Paul to get his pipes around. It’s the first cover on the record and it’s nice enough, despite being a little sparse. It’s very well produced though and sounds crisp and clean with some really good playing and an excellent vocal performance. Please Mister Postman - Carrying on the covers now, we get a track that’s pretty well done, although it feels a touch slow, but in all honesty this is one of those where it feels pretty unnecessary as it’s not as good as the original and it doesn’t really add anything to that version. It’s well performed, but just feels a bit of a redundant song. Roll Over Beethoven - Another unnecessary cover, and this one is pretty criminal in that it sands the edges off a song that sounds way more electric and exciting when performed by Chuck Berry. It just feels too safe. Hold Me Tight - There’s more hints at where the band would go here, but it’s another that feels like a simple idea that’s not vastly developed at this point. It’s well enough put together, but it’s not particularly catchy or interesting. You Really Gotta Hold On Me - Another cover now that doesn’t necessarily do anything particularly interesting compared to the original. The vocal harmonies are nicely balanced and performed, but it’s a bit plodding and not particularly inspiring. I Wanna Be Your Man - Now Ringo gets a go. There’s a bit more pace to this and it’s actually one of the better tracks, but Ringo is not the greatest singer and some of the notes feel a bit of a stretch for him. It’s a shame, because this has got a nice bit of drive and attitude to it, and has a better melodic hook than some of the weaker tracks. Devil In Her Heart - Back to another cover. There are some really nice vocal harmonies in here and it’s a good song that’s ballady but has a little bit of pace to it too. Again, they’re working on their craft here, and it’s pretty good, but not the most interesting of songs. Not A Second Time - This is a bit of an unfocused, meandering melody. It touches on a few phrases that are very, very typical of Lennon’s melody writing, but they get a bit lost in the meandering. It’s a pretty weak track that isn’t particularly clearly recorded either. Money - And we close out on another cover. It feels like they’re trying to generate the same voice wrecking vocal as they used to finish out Please Please Me with Twist and Shout, but this track just doesn’t have that energy or pace and it feels a bit try hard in that regard. It’s not a terrible track, but it’s a fairly standard bluesy rock number that again, isn’t vastly inspiring.

I have this, but may have never listened to it. I guess this is here as an example of their early sound. Great pop songs, but well they get a lot better. 3.5 rounded down Heard before? Some Owned: No 58/232 (25%) Will I get: Already have

Lots of love songs, and nothing stands out with George. But this is an earlier album and it was good to hear most of these songs again.

These early Beatles songs are either love or hate. None of my favorite songs are on this album.

it was okay

Listening to this made me realize why I’ve never understood the obsession with the Beatles. I like their instrumentals a lot and even the melody of the song, but I really dislike the quality of their singing voices. However, I still enjoyed listening to this more than expected. I pretty much always enjoyed the backing music, and on Roll Over Beethoven, I liked the way the entire song came together. After learning it was a cover, I listened to the original, and I don’t think the Beatles did any better than the original.

Pretty good, not a repeat listen

We’re bloody stars ya know

The best of the 60s but still can’t really stand up to anything after. As always with 60s albums, it was very fun and a nice listen but pretty much every song was the same. The Beatles are incredibly influential and have a lot of good tracks, but album consistency not up there.

I have no controversial Beatles opinions. I’ve always loved them and their music has been part of my life for as long as music has been part of it, which feels like forever. I say all this because I can’t really give this album a great score. I’m actually surprised it made it to the 1001 at all. To my ears, song-for-song it’s simply weaker than their debut, the production seems more brittle, the flow as an album seems unconvincing and while I know their recordings were fitted in around their crazy schedules at the time, it does sound rushed. Luckily none of this was noticed at the time but with the benefit of hindsight, it feels like they were already capable of better and it was probably never considered there would still be scrutiny of With The Beatles 60 years later.

My goodness, this site is a joke. Not RYM, which I'll be posting this review to on Saturday the 7th, but the 1001albumsgenerator site. I love the function, but the fact that this is rated at a 3.66 over Brilliant Corners, Blue, Sea Change, Funeral... IN A SILENT WAY FOR FUCK'S SAKE??? I mean, okay. It's not bad at all. It's just really... like we've all heard little child, right?? We've all heard roll over beethoven, right??? These are bad songs! And even the album's more undeniably spectacular cuts (All My Loving, Hold Me Tight, You Really Got A Hold On Me) are still obviously indebted to their influences. There's a lot of energy here, and SO much personality, but nowhere near enough actual quality to back any of that up! Like there is NO justification for little child and we all know it. Roll over beethoven is one of the dullest, most nothing tracks ever. Everything else is pretty passable but when I say that, keep in mind that sooooo much of this is ripped straight from better (almost always Black) artists. Y'all it's alright but please. 7.3/10

How should I look at this album objectively? I have this memory from a Polish countryside wedding in the early 2000s - I was a child, and somewhere in the background a band was singing ‘All My Loving.’ 6/10

You’re allowed to say this album is mediocre. It’s okay. There are times it sounds good. But there are times I just hate it. Too syrupy. Too dumb.

with the beatles walked so a hard day's night could run, help could sprint, rubber soul could fly, and revolver can exceed the speed of sound. 3/5

I can't lie. I wasn't too happy with having to listen to the Beatles' second album. Their later stuff is much more appealing to me. But it was still good! I still much prefer their later stuff when they were doing more original music versus half of this being covers that were often not as good as the originals, but they were getting their footing still. You can see why they were as popular as they were and where they were going just a few years later.

A bit shallow

Early Beatles, not really bad, not really that good

Surely the Beatles are always very listenable, but this one seems like one of the least interesting, maybe even the worst, Beatles album overall. Very interesting as a point in the Beatles' evolution, but musically mediocre, to me.

varies in sound quality, just O.K.

Nothing the Beatles made is really bad, I guess. But this album may have been important and fresh at the time, not so much nowadays.

A couple of my favorites are in this album, but most are pretty good and memorable songs, but it gets very repetitive very quick. Barely beginning their carreer, still haven't experimented much and sticking to some good and famous covers to fill out the track list. Never gets better than It Won't Be Long at the start.

Fun, but too 60s for me

Idk, man. They're The Beatles. They're fine. I don't hate them, I don't like them. It's just whatever.

heel basic liefdes liedjes, veel vant zelfde. ze hebben veeeelll beter

Not as good as other Beatle's albums but was still a decent listen.

Pretty good

I'm not a big Beatles fan, but I like this stuff better than their later work.

This is a fun listen if you're a fan of The Beatles, but I'm glad these boys discovered drugs and started getting funky with it.

Es war sicherlich ein Meilenstein in der Rock-Historie. Und ein paar Songs haben auch heute noch eine unheimliche Wirkung. Insgesamt ist es ein nett zu hörendes Rock-Album mit typischen 60er Sound. 3/5

Remastered stereo with vocals in one channel, instruments in the other is a bit annoying. They sound like early Beatles. No surprises here. I guess their talent grows later, because of the cover versions on the album, others versions of those songs sound much better.

An oddity in the Beatles' discography perhaps, as this album showcased the Beatles not as great songwriter (though their sings are still fine) but great performers. The cover songs on the album are often a delight with the Beatles' vocalizing harmonies and energetic rhythm section.

Ehhh, didnt like this as much as I thought i would. Just real raw, some covers.

Nice listen although definitely sounds dated (whereas some of their later stuff is timeless). Makes it fun to know where their lads go from here. I’ll score lower just knowing their future potential is so high. 3.25

Coincidentally, I just generated another Beatles album, Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band, yesterday. It was a very good album, full of amazing melodies and fun tunes. This album wasn’t like that. Sure, it was still good, but slightly boring; not the best works of the Beatles. A high 3.

A pleasant listen

Listened to and from work. I love the Beatles but I don't love their earlier work. There's glimmers of their brilliance there but it's just too poppy and sacarine for me. Plus the mixing and production of these stereo remasters is just awful. Looking forward to hearing Rubber Soul and Revolver again on this list.

I guess you have to start somewhere and this album is about half good. At least, if The Beatles were going to be a cover band, at least they could have covered The Beatles.

Quite good

This record is the reason Beatlemania was never officially recognised in the DSM.

This was going really well to start, and I was going to give it a 4, but then there was a bit of a vibe shift and the second half was more like a 2.

Why are the songs so short!!! It feels like I only get to hear a taster of each one and then its over already. For my first Beatles experience this wasn't too bad though, I'm excited to listen to their other albums when they come up.

Classic Beatles but before they really figured out what they were doing. Reminiscent of a raw 60s style but not particularly good.

Even the Beatles needed some time to really hit their stride.

This is what I thought all beatles albums sounded like when I was convinced that they were a severely overhyped band for the first 20 years of life until I finally listened to sgt pepper's and saw the light

Worst track: little child... Wait, oh yes, wait a minute, Mr. Postman vine. My left ear is enjoying the guitar and drums. Overall, I'm not a huge Beatles fan, but I value and appreciate their contribution to music. (listened while doing homework)

Not my favorite Beatles album lmao.
