Reviews (page 9 of 13)
The Good: We get to take everything back home! The Bad: Home’s a lot smaller then we remember it to be… The Ugly: Fucking Yardsale to get rid of all the shit we brought back home… Mr Dylan is who he is… and that is probably one of the greatest singer/songwriters of all time… just like Leonard Cohen et al… So, my question is: do all singer/songwriters have to have annoying voices in order to become successful? There are some classic songs on this album, one’s which I might want to listen to again at some point in time, and probably will if I still manage to listen to the radio on a “golden oldies” kind of thing… However, I don’t really care to have to sit through this album again any time soon… so where does that leave us? 3* upgraded from 2 1/2
Not bad. Bobs not my favorite, He ain't no Rodriguez, but this is good.
7/10 very country vibes
I appreciate talent and vision, but it's just not my kind of music
his voice equally turns me on and pisses me off...like day drinking
Bob Dylan is a legend. Good album.
Classic Bob Dylan. Don't always know what he means but he sounds cool saying it.
Never been a big Dylan fan, save for a few songs from his 70s albums. I was pleasantly surprised listening to this album front to back. Being his "going electric" record I enjoyed every song on it. He sure can paint a picture with his lyrics
i thought it was really boring
-Such a talented guitarist -Don't love the addition of the harmonica most times -Prefer the tracks that meet halfway between upbeat and mellow -Dylan has a especially raspy toned voice that works so well
Always enjoy a bit of Dylan, and some staples on here.
I’d probably rate this highest of Bob Dylan’s ‘60s catalog (3.5)
Better than I expected.

Amazing songwriting, fantastic lyrics, a true poet. If that were it it would be an easy 5 stars, but that voice, Jesus it's awful. Every cover of a Dylan song sounds better than him doing it. I'm less than 200 albums in to this project, wonder how much more of this I will be subjected to.
It's a good album, but a better setup for Blonde On Blonde which is a GREAT album. I understand not liking his voice, but there's no excuse for not liking his songs.
Couple good songs on here and a couple of classics which save it from a 2, going with a 3
I enjoyed the music but the album is defiantly a bit outdated socially. And the story telling songs not lyrically written songs if you know what I mean didnt really hit for me as much. Though his voice is really good and I still enjoyed listening
good but not my style of music, 3.5/5
Don't get the glazing on this album, I mean it's alright Fave track: Mr Tambourine Man
It’s the kind of album where Dylan’s voice and the harmonica wear a bit thin by the end. 3/5
Jake bugg walked so Bob Dylan could run. In all honesty I was impressed with this. I am not that exposed to Bob Dylan’s work, but I think this was a great gateway to listen to more of his work. I think the story telling was clever, his voice was interesting and engaging and the sound, not strictly my usual thing, actually surprised me and thought it paired so well with his voice. Really impressive record well done Bob x
Not my aestethics, simple as that. I'm in general not too fond of the sixties, especially the folk music (although I like bands like The Velvet Underground or The Electric Prunes). I think that it's due to production capabilities, but a lot of folk music sounds metalic, scratchy and sharp (not in a good way), it kind of hurts my ears and annoys me. You have to give it to Dylan that as a songwriter he's one of the best in the business, for that alone he deserves massive respect. But I don't really like his vocal much, same goes for the music (harmonica + acoustic guitar in his hands aren't too pleasing to me). There is a couple of songs that I actually enjoyed in a way, but in general it's not an album I will come back to.
Pleasantly surprised at liking this. Bob still not my fave but the lyrics are great
Well this is definitely better than both The Freewheelin' Bob Dylan and Blonde On Blonde. Still not that much better though.
Urgggh. I am so sick of getting this over rated muppet. As always, I’ll give it a fair listen but not expecting to be surprised - forced rhymes, the same song 13 different ways and a smug self aggrandising throughout is expected… …tbf, I do seem to much prefer the electric approach for the opening 3 tracks, at least. Songs seem slightly more appealing and engaging. However, still done by the end of the 3rd track. And that damn voice 😩 Naturally, he has a track named after himself. What a prick. Glad to be one step closer to getting no more of his albums on this list.
melancholy
It was fine
Always heard tons of old people hype up Bob Dylan and can understand it. Good storyteller and voice is pure. Mr. Tambourine Man is a banger. Some of the songs are kinda forgettable and his voice kinda drones a bit at times but has charm to it
#249/1001. Ok, this is the one where Dylan goes electric, purist fans boo and sales skyrocket. I wonder how long would he have survived on the surface of popular music as a man+acoustic guitar combo. Rolling Dylan gathers no dust though. Somehow the "electric" or rock and roll backing which by modern standards sounds quite...acoustic? And his sound and voice is probably most commercial, even radio friendly so far and perhaps ever since (my Dylan knowledge is fairly liniged though). I am sure his voice divides people motmre tahan wheather there is an electric guitar in the band or not. And perhaps the harmonica. But I wouldn't call him an anarchist based on this album, even less give the anarchist a cigarette. But songs are great and a new chapter in folk begun. Also Subterranean homesick blues and its video are both classics. Perhaps the whole album. Still, I don't have any personal affection towards the music, no need to come back to it. But I don't hate it either, sorry to say this comes down to an average 3.
Pretty mid, sometimes great sometimes annoying.
2.5/5 While I haven't heard alot of Bob Dylan's music I do like this album. Tambourine man is the stand out track and it's a good album but nothing too amazing.

Nice folk
Retro
I think it's a good album and I do recognize it's relevance, however, when it comes to Bob Dylan I cannot like all of his songs and maybe that's because it's so specific Possibly because I need to be in a specific mood. Either way I think for me personally there are better Dylan albums, however this one is also good and the only issue is that I find it a little bit repetitive. Either way he was a legend.
Eu adoro it’s all over now baby blue, mas de resto é difícil ignorar que a qualquer momento ele pode cantar precaverrrr precaverrrr 🐐🐐🐐🐐
I like Dylan at his most melodic and folky - the twanginess I find grating
Yeah it’s Bob Dylan alright.
not my music type but liked it
Subterrenean homesick blues: lekker mondharminocaatje She belongs to me: niet helemaal mijn ding . On the road again: leuke mondharmonica. Bob dylans 115th dream Meh album 3 sterren.
first bob dylan album I've ever heard, not too bad. Don't really have much to say about I just think its a decent album
Great album honesty. I didn’t think (and maybe still don’t) that rock & roll was really my thing. Like, I probably won’t listen to this while I ride the bus or something, because the songs don’t have enough variation (like ups and downs if that makes sense) in them. But this is definitely something I’d buy on Vinyl. Like, reading or studying to this or dancing around would be really cool.
You don’t need a weatherman to know which way the wind blows
Great backing music but singing a bit talky and not incredible Would probably listen though
i quite enjoyed it, some good songs and some alright songs
chill good album vocals a little tired but overall good
I had a Dutch girlfriend back in the 90's who was obsessed with Bob Dylan and I didn't get it. He does write some good songs but still don't care for his voice. This is a fun album with some good songs, but still Bob's voice.
Eventually I'm sure I'll learn to appreciate Bob Dylan a bit more but it's an arduous process and while I like the odd track, a full album is a tough ask to actually enjoy. Apart from the obvious tracks like say 'Maggie's Farm' and 'Mr. Tambourine Man', 'Bob Dylan's 115th Dream' gets a nod this time round.
I actually liked this album more than the first one. I don't know what was different, maybe I was just more into the vibe this time? In the right headspace? Also, I think I'm gonna still rate this 3 stars, but I wish I could do half stars, bc I'd actually give it a 3.5 if I could.
Enough Bob D for awhile, thanks.
Maybe one day I’ll get it… but today is just not that day
ok but his later stuff is better i think
Wholesome album, reminds me of my grandparents for some reason. I found some songs repetitive and annoying but particularly enjoyed outlaw blues
okay
Nasal vocals and sounds very American. It's very calm and honestly a bit depressing
Actually enjoyed despite his voice, but the harmonica at the end...
good
I’m still not a Dylan fan, but I’ll give this one a pass. It’s far less rambly than a lot of his other stuff. Honestly the songwriting is solid. Why can’t he let people sing it who are, I dunno, good at singing?
It's a good album. But I definitely won't be looking for it to add to my collection.
me cambie de pieza
If I listened to it again I feel like I would end up liking it more but on my first listen I really enjoy “subterranean homesick blues” “outlaw blues” “gates of Eden” and “it’s alright, ma”. A very solid album.
When it's good it's near great, but never quite makes it to overall greatness. Much prefer The Byrds Tambourine Man. Subterreanean, It's Alright Ma, and Baby Blue standouts. Trends closer to 3.5
I think I like electric Dylan more than acoustic Dylan, and this album has a mix of both. I can appreciate that this is a great folk/blues/rock album but it's not something I want to listen to all the time. Subterranean Homesick Blues and Outlaw Blues were my favourites on first listen.
I find dense folk albums to be quite challenging listens when they come up, as they demand my full attention to really keep up with them, on top of having a sound I don't much care for. Nevertheless, Bob Dylan is an important figure, so I decided to give his album a fairer shot than I usually would, and found the experience way more enjoyable than I imagined. There are some beautiful melodies on here! I loved him straight up rapping with a great flow on track 1! Also a big fan of the crazy shit going on in Bob Dylan's 115th Dream! Admittedly the album's longer tracks on the back half kind of lost me as they dragged on far more than I liked (even Mr. Tambourine Man, as catchy as it is). The closer totally saves it from being a dud, however. Good album! Standouts: Subterranean Homesick Blues • She Belongs to Me • On the Road Again • Bob Dylan's 115th Dream • It's All Over Now, Baby Blue
I didn’t mind it - except the first one… idk felt a bit to country… Liked best: (initial impression) - love minus zero - outlaw blues - all over now baby blue Overall I’d probably give a 5/10. Average album for me at first impression. Had some songs I liked but most I just probably won’t listen to again.
I thought I didn’t like anything from Bob Dylan. I found myself kind of liking this album because he wasn’t doing that stupid voice he does that made me not like him in the first place.
I’m not really a huge Bob Dylan fan (i think he’s an incredible lyricist and i like a few songs, i just don’t listen to him that often) so i was surprised by how much i enjoyed this, Subterranean Homesick Blues is so good, I also love She Belongs to Me that’s probably the one i’ll listen to the most going forward, It’s Alright Ma I’m Only Bleeding has 10/10 lyrics
71/1001 Not a big Dylan fan but enjoy the hits. Another artist I’d probably enjoy more if I paid attention to the lyrics. I’ll come back to this one day. 5/10
Leans more on Dylan's country/twangy side, which isn't my favorite. Includes the iconic Mr. Tambourine Man and Maggie's Farm.
This is overall a solid album. It's cozy, charming and I definitely love me a good harmonica. That said, almost all of the songs felt and sounded the same- which isn't a problem if you like folk, but unfortunately it's not really my cup of tea. Notable favorites: Mr. Tambourine Man, Gates Of Eden Would I be opposite if this album came on? Absolutely not. Would I go out of my way to listen to it again? Probably not.
60s folk rock. Subterranean Homesick Blues in Europe. More electric than his previous work. Nice folk album.
weak opening, cool lyricism. 6.5/10
Am I in the Cuntry? This is what the covey sang in district 12. Very fun I like it. Is this guy still alive? I think he's dead right. Ooh I like Bob Dylan's 115th Dream. This harmonica is lowkey hurting my ears no shade. Ok I can't with the harmonica. Tea. Very country very cool album I'm so cool now. A cool experience but I'm not sure if I would relisten. I liked the first half much better.
Some decent tracks on here, I do like early Dylan, never seen him live though
Dylan er overvurdert. Helt ok bakgrunnsstøy
First listen
Top 3 favorite songs - 1. Subterranean homesick blues (shout out Radiohead for knowing ball) 2. Mr. Tambourine Man 3. Bob Dylan’s 115th Dream
(2.7) I’m not sure if it’s his voice or just the overall sound of his music but I don’t think I’m a big Bob Dylan guy. Although, I actually liked a couple more songs than I thought I was going to
Not my style, will need to listen again a bit later.
Lovely folk album.
Subterranean homesick blues - very country/blues style - not my typical genre that I listen to She belongs to me - a lot more calmer - I found the lyrics repeating quite interesting Maggies farm - I feel like the problem I have with folk music is that it all ends up sounding similar to me - the tunes are catchy though Love minus zero - I like this one more so than the others so far - I found the syncopation between the background instruments and vocals quite interesting to listen to Outlaw blues - more upbeat - I think all of the songs so far feature the harmonica. What significance does it have in folk music in America? On the road again - another one I really liked Bob Dylan’s 115th dream - I really liked the beginning - very fun Mr tambourine man - my favourite one so far - feels like a hug Gates of Eden - i feel like the lyrics to this one might be interesting It’s alright ma (I’m only bleeding) - lyrical masterpiece - the music is truly the background It’s all over now baby blue - I liked this one - nice one to end album off with Overall - out of my comfort zone genre but it was enjoyable and interesting and I did find some that I enjoyed
might be a bit too country for me ngl and overstimulating but bob dylan is the goat i dont think i would re listen though
Not my favourite, his voice is too distracting for me, but the first 2 songs and the final track really got my attention
This is a great album, but there’s a lot of stuff that’s not cool about his album. There’s a lot of things that don’t really fit in my idea of a Bob Dylan album or Bob Dylan songs. The laughing producer, recording engineer on that one track with a false start, I don’t think there’s anything like that on any other Bob Dylan song Even a bootleg that I can think of. I’m so focused on 1997 and on Bob Dylan in various periods before that, that I don’t readily identify with this Dillon album as being pretty close to what most people think of when they hear Bob Dylan. To me this sounds very much still like a folk album with some Electric interesting instrumentations. Lyrically though it’s not really Woody Guthrie inspired, but it’s also not later hounded and focused literary Dillon. Some of the phrases just aren’t really that good. I like the song like on the road again, but it seems pretty off the cuff I’m more playful and improvisational than some carefully studied poet tree. I say that because I wonder if Bob Dylan writing it at the time would’ve considered that people 60 years later would be listening to it. Listening to the album now it’s easier to see that it’s a subversion of normal blues and folk tropes. I think the hundred times I listen to it before I never really connected with that, it just sounded like Bob Dylan.
like it 6/10
Me gustan “Blonde On Blonde”, “Blood On The Tracks” y “Nashville Skyline”, aunque he de reconocer que me faltan por escuchar. El problema es que no apetece. De este álbum rescató la imprescindible “Mr.Tambourine Man” y “It’s All Over Now, Baby Blue”.
first bob dylan album i listened to beginning to end fav songs : subterranean homesick blues, gates of eden, it’s all over now baby blue
Pretty good overall just too old for me to really get into (7/10)
👍
Pretty good
My first introduction to Bob Dylan and it was pretty good. I enjoyed the country instruments that join with the strong guitar. The stand out song for me was Bob Dylan’s 115th dream.
OK. But I didn’t even notice when the album ended and realized oh I like this song and it was my tidal shuffling to another artist
It's good, but not for me.
Good vibes and some clever lyrics. A bit front loaded though if you ask me, except for Mr. Tambourine Man. Faves: Subterranean Homesick Blues, She Belongs To Me, Mr. Tambourine Man
I was better prepared after listening to his last album but yeah his voice is still not great. Still great lyrics though.
ok mas não é meu tipo de album
A way better experience than the previous Bob Dylan record I had to listen to, which was "The Freewheelin' Bob Dylan". This album is divided in two sections. In the first half, the singer-songwriter starts to incorporate modern elements to his folk sound. The most noticeable being the electric guitar and the drums, but there is also a piano in some songs. I really liked the inclusion of these instruments as they enriched a lot the sound of the tracks (and is also great to hear more things than just his quite annoying voice, an acoustic guitar and the harmonica). The second half is more traditional, and judging by my previous comment, anyone could guess how much I "liked" this part (is quite boring in comparison). What I need to mention is that his great capability of storytelling is still present on this album. Overall, a decent album. Not that I was blown away about it, but I enjoyed it way more than expected.
Joa, wohl nicht schlecht. Sollte wohl aufmerksamer auf die Texte achten..?
I’m not a fan of his voice or harmonica playing. I know he was very influential on so many artist and he was an innovator. But his voice just bugs me… this album wasn’t torture to listen to like many of the “post-punk” and “electronica” garbage on this list. But I can’t see myself listening to it again if I don’t have to… I give it 3 STARS.
Although I like most of the Bob Dylan songs a whole album is slightly too much for me. Nonetheless the album contains the well-known hits "Subterranean Homesick Blues", "She Belongs To Me", "It's All Over Now, Baby Blue" and above all "Mr. Tambourine Man".
Good Classic Album
He's definitely a talented and prolific songwriter, I just can't stand his nasally voice. Tracks to Track: Love Minus Zero
3/5
Great melodies, not an everyday listen for me but enjoyed it.
I believe I've had two prior Dylan albums at this point in my 1001ish albums journey, and this one has been the most listenable. What I really mean is, even though this piece is also divided in two halves, it works really well as a singular project. The energy is there all throughout, and you can tell Bobby was ahead of his time and trying to get his listeners into the new electric rock sound. I can live without this. 2.9/5
bra som bakgrundsmusik
I enjoyed this album way more than I expected to. 3.5 stars
not a bob dylan fan but still decent
this is what joanna newsom must be like for straight people because i just cannot get past the voice but this one had some bops and i found myself tapping my foot to a song about him meeting christopher columbus and getting a hot dog or something so that was fun
A couple of jams in here, but a fair amount of mumbling, too. Clearly gains much by being listened to with intent, the lyrics being central to what success it has. A middling album.
This kind of music does absolutely nothing for me. It’s a shame as I enjoyed Time out of Mind quite a lot more!
I don't like Bob Dylan but this is not that bad, a notch above the boring bullshit he usually does. First two songs especially were great. Inconsistent but definitely has its moments.
I have never really enjoyed listening to Dylan. I have softened as I’ve gotten older, and I am glad this project forced my hand and made me listen to this album. subterranean and Maggie are great songs that I really enjoy listening to. A full album of Dylan is still a lot for me, and the more acoustic songs on this album were a bit or a grind for me - they became formulaic for me after a while. And I’ll never really be able to get fully on board with his voice. Nonetheless i fully comprehend his impact and appreciate how much love there is for this album. Im giving it a 3, which frankly shows a lot of growth in my part :)
Back heavy. Last three songs are great
Just don’t love him
I am not really a big fan of Bob Dylan. I like some folk music but I never really felt a great attachment to Bob Dylan's work. There were a few tracks that I liked but mostly I would just hear them in the background while doing other stuff. I guess this genre of music is not for me because I didn't really felt such a strong connection.
The calm before the storm, where Dylan is on the brink of going electric. This last breath of folk is solidified in time as one of his best with classics such as “Tamborine Man”, and “It’s All Over Now, Baby Blue”. Have and will be listening again.
nur teilweise gehört. besser als blonde on blonde?
I can see the appeal and there are some great songs in here. I just don't see myself choosing to listen to it on my own volition.
Bluesier then the typical Dylan that I like. Seems to be the start of his transition out of folk. Not surprisingly, I like the second half more which includes Its All Over Now, Baby Blue.
Another Dylan album? The first 25 weren't enough? The man can write a good song, and I dig a lot of his music, but outside of a few songs this album is pretty average. I guess I don't appreciate the poetry the same as some people. "Subterranean Homesick Blues" is a clever, well written and popular (65M listens) song but it's not a track you can listen to over and over, it borders on annoying from the get go. "She Belongs To Me" is a nice track I wasn't familiar with. "Maggie's Farm" is a radio staple and often covered (listen to the opposite song vibe on Rage Against The Machine's version!). "Mr. Tamborine Man" is a generational song everyone knows from old to young. "It's All Over Now..." (33M) is a classic but it's dated. To me, this album just doesn't stand up after all these years. I feel he's berating me on tracks like "Homesick" and"On The Road Again". "Gates Of Eden", "It's Alright, Ma..." and "Outlaw Blues" were just lame and wordy tracks. 3 stars because it has instantly recognizable tracks but isn't going to knock anyone's socks off.
I have a very hard time believing that I NEED to listen to SEVEN Bob Dylan albums before I die. I don't even dislike Dylan that much, but c'mon man, pick something less obvious.
These songs are so much better when covered by people can sing. And jesus, that harmonica does my head in.
I respect how much bro likes to bitch. Everything is annoying and a pain in the ass- and I feel that.
Solid, not my favorite BD album, but solid
This was OK. Nothing special. He hadn't hit his stride yet (I gave Highway 61 and Blood on the Tracks 4 stars each).
Pretty ok
This is probably one of Dylan's most accessible and poppy albums. Many songs here achieved classic status, and for good reason. Plenty of memorable refrains and lyrics, there are even memorable melodies too, never Dylan's strongest suit. Of course, his voice continues to be an acquired taste and it does get tiring for long stretches of time. Key tracks: Subterranean Homesick Blues Maggie's Farm Love Minus Zero/No Limit Mr. Tambourine Man
Overrated in my opinion, but maybe it’s just cause there so many other albums by Dylan that I prefer to this one.
Possibly the best of Bob's discography. Know a few songs from this album. I don't really enjoy Dylan much, this one is okay.
Not a bad Dylan album, but i'm just not a Dylan fan
A good album with some great songs. Really a pivotal piece of folk Americana and the protest legacy of people like Woody Guthrie, Muriel Rukeyser, and Alan Ginsberg. Some of the absurdist and surrealist songs get a bit grating though.
Very cool stories told
Never going to be a fully card-carrying convert to the cult of Bob. However, he was undeniably a talented writer and his vocals in this early period fit the music perfectly. I do think many of his lyrics would have been better suited to poetry recitals than an album though. Best Track = Mr. Tambourine Man.
I like this era of Bob Dylan.
Not my fav era/ album of his but a pretty good listen overall
You know what, he’s growing on me. It took some more intentional listening, but I also enjoyed the fact that he sung more. He has a very pleasant singing voice when he’s not doing *that* cadence as often. Lyrics are beyond impressive as always
Rolling stone 181 A good early Dylan collection. What more to say
Bob Dylan. I always need lyrics for some of his work. On this listen, I appreciate lyrics (some seem poignant, some seem silly). Harmonica breaks work well but his voice and delivery is not my taste. I did tag a couple songs but they will not be much in rotation on long car rides. Given it is 2025 the one lyric from 'It's Alright Ma (I'm Only Bleeding)' that made me go EWWWW! "But even sometimes the President of the United States must have to stand naked".. Get that visual out of my head NOW. Else the lyrics still resonate lo these many years. Listened before? Partially Saved to library? No Favorite track(s): Bob Dylan's 115th Dream, It's Alright Ma (I'm Only Bleeding), Mr. Tambourine Man, Love Minus Zero
Low expectations for my first Bob Dylan album on the list. I've never been able to get past his voice. I might be converted. There are some great songs on here. On my second listen, it's definitely growing on me. Great lyrics. Listened before? N Saved to library? N Favorite track(s): Subterranean Homesick Blues, Bob Dylan's 115th Dream, It's Alright, Ma (I'm Only Bleeding) ⭐⭐⭐: Liked it. Saved some tracks.
i don't know if i'm bob dylan's biggest fan but this one was alright
One of the better Bob Dylan albums I've listened to on this list. Still hate him, though.
I really only enjoyed the first and last tracks on this album. The music is meh, his voice is shit. Bob Dylan is best when he's reciting anti-war slam poems over some folky chords. Definitely not a good album but better than his others.
Its Bob Dylan. I've never been a big fan, but I can understand his influence.
The man is a folk genius. Doesn’t always translate to exquisite music, but the lyricism is undeniable and I also can’t deny that this sounds nice.
Only 20 albums in and this is my second Bob Dylan. I enjoyed the electric side of the record, the acoustic didn't work as well to me. And The Byrds did a better Mr Tambourine Man.
I am not a Bob Dylan fan. He was a decent lyricist. The proof being how many covers of his songs are popular. But I cannot get past his nasal voice. This album was no exception.
Bob Dylan, _Bringing It All Back Home_ ⭐️⭐️⭐️ Not a Dylan head but man some of it is undeniably catchy and genius. _She Belongs to Me_ singlehandedly inspired The Velvet Underground Maggie's Farm is exactly why folkies hated Dylan's turn to electric blues and f em I'm glad he went and did whatever he wanted. It's All Over Now, Baby Blue just brilliant. Bob Dylan's 115th Dream has not only a funny intro, but I'm gonna guess inspired Arlo Guthrie. Maddening to listen to. It's so long. If you force yourself to listen to it, next thing you know you'll be talking to people about the brilliance of Zappa, Ween and probably Phish too. Skip it!
I enjoy this period of Dylan’s work. The heavy themes of his earlier music aren’t so prevalent, but you still get decent social commentary like Maggie’s Farm. What I don’t enjoy is how many of the electric backed blues numbers are so ‘samey’ that it all becomes a bit dull. You’re relying more on the melody of Dylan’s music, and let’s be real, the “heeees” and “hooos” and “haaaas” all become a bit predictable in his style too. Fortunately there are some classics scattered amidst the offering. I love subterranean homesick blues. That line ,“20’s years of schooling and they put you on the day shift” always struck me as being quite profound and scary. And then of course, Mr Tambourine Man proves that Dylan can write an honest to god, comfort song. It’s overall decent, but I’ll take the classics and leave everything else. ✨
nice.
Not a fan
The father of American Folk music. It's a fine album but, like with most folk music, it's 50 minutes of very samey sounding songs. Not too compelling, not awful to listen to. Just fine.
*Not my favorite type of music but I can appreciate its musicianship *Outlaw Blues and Tambourine Man are the best tracks *Don't love the harmonica but like the faster moving blues tracks
Its bob dylan so pretty decent ye
bob dylan or timmy chalamet? who knows, who cares. nothing crazy but still good. 6/10
I'll never be able to listen to Bob Dylan without thinking of Dewey Cox from Walk Hard. It's just too spot on. This wasn’t as annoying as his other albums.
Jangling. Rocky. A big belligerent? Some of my favorite American rock and folk songs. It feels like you can hear a cigarette hanging from his mouth has he signs and plays guitar. Rolling Stones. Lots of tambourine. It's All Over Now is probably my favorite on the album. The bass that intertwines with the acoustic guitar.. the mood and feeling it reflects. The resolve from moments of tension.
# Playlist Track - It's All Over Now, Baby Blue # Notes - Includes epic tracks, like Subterranean Homesick Blues and Mr. Tambourine Man. - Not my favourite, but good overall. No horrible tracks, at least. - I wonder if Dylan ever listened to the Brazilian version of "It's All Over Now" (Negro Amor) which is, frankly, miles ahead.
Never been a big fan. I still feel this way.
An good album but don't think I'd go out of my way to specifically listen to it. You could definitely tell it was Bob Dylan, and I think that was a good thing, but some songs left me feeling like they were just a bit off the mark of what I was expecting.
This album is like a young pastor that has moved to a town in a southern state. He’s befriending the locals through music, letting them play the guitar while he sings the lyrics. Times are tough in this town, and everybody is living hand to mouth. His music acts as a acknowledgement of the difficulties faced by the community, while also serving as a message of hope for those wishing for things to improve. He also sneaks a bit of religious sermon in there
Whatever one's musical preferences I think one must acknowledge that Dylan was a trailblazer, and that this is trailblazing. This one must anyway.
I'm sure the 60s and 70s folk purists were upset about this one...they probably were as angsty as Dylan himself seems when he reminds us 300 times that he's not working on Maggie's farm anymore. Little moments like Dylan's laughter at a mis-start on "Bob Dylan's 115th Dream" make albums feel so much more personal and invite us into the fun of creating the music. Also, this album has an unusual amount of lyrics about hotdogs. "On the Road Again" (no, it's not *that* version), "115th Dream", and I'm almost certain I heard them one other time… But really, isn't two mentions about hots on the same album already a bit excessive? I was not looking forward to this album because honestly, I've never liked Bob Dylan's singing. I can absolutely respect his chops as a songwriter and realize his influence on the music and political scene of the 60s and 70s I just can't stand to hear his voice. Still, it wasn't a totally boring album.
It’s Bob Dylan. Idk, it’s fine.
It’s Dylan.
First two thirds: yeah this is great. Last third: what the fuck is this
2.8 not my bag
More bob
I didn't like this. I was bored, the music is not interesting in the slightest. I would have liked to give Bob's words more respect and had a proper listen, but I'm a busy man. The last 2 tracks were my favourite. 2.7/5
He has good songs but im just not a Bod Dylan kind of person
Some good songs on there
Ah Dylan. The song writing is first class but the performance is like nails on a black board. I’ve never got the Dylan hype and so still don’t, maybe I’m not old enough, sure the classics are there but if the songs are more then 3 minutes it becomes like listening to white noise due to his grating nasal tones.
Redelijk classic dylan album
"Do you know what would make that great song sound even better? A few tuneless blasts on the mouth organ" Said no-one ever.
Bob Dylan’s voice is an acquired taste, and I think I’m still on the fence. I enjoyed this album more than I anticipated, especially the first half of the album/the higher energy bluesy songs. His slower/acoustic songs tend to lean towards a miss for me generally, even if they start strong. Having a full band balances out Dylan’s voice, it became more grating on the acoustic songs, distracting from the lyrics. I’ve always wanted to like Dylan more than I have, while this album has helped I don’t think I’ve been fully convinced.
Never been a Dylan fan.
Second half of the album is best, but it takes so long to get there…
Alright
Not a big fan of Bob Dylan's voice, which made it difficult to enjoy the album. I appreciated the storytelling in his lyricism; it felt like a lot of the songs had a punchy little message to convey.
Mr. Tambourine Man, Play A Song For Me 1001 Albums Generator 91 (08/07/2025) Bob Dylan has gone electric. Bringing It All Back Home is the first Dylan album to feature electric instrumentation and it is split across two distinct sides. The first side is full of folk rock tunes while the second side has classic Dylan solo stuff. Now regarded as one of Bob Dylan's greatest achievements and one of the finest albums in all of history in general, Bringing It All Back Home was actually quite controversial upon release. Folk purists felt that their poster boy was abandoning them and selling out to the rock crowd. It reminds me of the reception Miles Davis would get a couple years later when he fused his jazz with rock sounds. Similar to Davis, Dylan's infusion with rock would end up producing his best albums. With that said, Bringing It All Back Home is one that I had never heard before so I was curious to hear how this journey started. The first song, Subterranean Homesick Blues, is a classic. The vocals sound more like poetry than traditional sung vocals and I really love the energy of this song. The drums, electric guitar, and harmonica are all fantastic. Similarly, Maggie's Farm is really high energy and fun and has a weird harmonic rhythm where the chorus is in blocks of three measures. Love Minus Zero is absolutely beautiful and has the best harmonica on the whole album. Once again, the guitar work here is really fun. Bob Dylan's 115th Dream has a false opening with Bob playing and singing alone before his producer busts out laughing and told him to start again. Then a later take with the whole band is stitched in. This is just a classic long Bob Dylan song with 11 verses of surreal imagery. The back side is not my favorite. I know that around the time of this album's release, the backside was more indicative of what Bob Dylan's "sound" was, but I just find his electric stuff infinitely more entertaining. With that said, Mr. Tambourine Man is an absolute classic for a reason. I read this song as a search for some sort of higher power or spiritual being, but I know that there are lots of different interpretations. Now, I'm not even a Bob Dylan harmonica hater, but Gates Of Eden is honestly a little bit annoying. The single chord blast in the chorus is almost a self-parody. It's Alright Ma is alright but too long for my tastes and the album ends on a bit of a whimper with It's All Over Now, Baby Blue. Bringing It All Back Home is the album that divided folk fans in the mid-60's. After this album would be the infamous 1965 Newport Festival incident, and music would never be the same. With that said, looking at this album with my modern eyes, it's honestly mostly the electric stuff that makes it memorable. 3.5/5, rounded down to a 3 because there are Dylan albums I like a lot more. Favs: Subterranean Homesick Blues Love Minus Zero Mr. Tambourine Man Least Fav: Gates Of Eden
A good blend of electric and acoustic Dylan. The album floats on by with some obvious stand outs. I love a bit of harmonica so love ‘On the Road again’ which stomps along like a railroad tune. This is a solid album but by no means a classic and there are better Dylan albums out there.
I've never listened to Dylan before so this was new to me. Can't say I disliked it. Would I listen to it again? Yeah, I think I would. There was enough songs here that caught my interest. While I don't dislike his vocals, they are one thing stopping from really liking it.
The blend of electric and acoustic is interesting, but Dylan's "poetry" always leaves something to be desired.
The voice is okay for 2 songs, a little grating for 10.
Some serious classics but also a little repetitive.
I think Bob Dylan is always ok but he’s just not my style often. 5/10 due to my style preference
Liked this!!! Not a Dylan head, but I really love his lyrics and how he’ll sometimes let a line run over the pre established number of measures in a verse and kind of take it out of time. Both are very present here and when combined with subject matter and structure they’re used to great effect! Scared I’m becoming a big bob guy. Fav Track: It’s Alright, Ma (I’m Only Bleeding)
One of the better Dylan albums, good mix of electric and acoustic numbers, although the harmonica does get a little old
Bob Dylan writes some entertaining lyrics. The kind that captivates at least my attention. Instrumentally there's not much to say
Better than i thought it would be
Tambourine Man! Annars sådär.
Ujdzie, ale bez szału. 3/5
It’s pretty good rock influenced folk, not many stand out moments other than the opening track though
Cash >> Dylan
Sanoituksetkin kiinnostaa. Vahva 3,5, ei enempää koska ei saa mua ihan hymyilemään tms. Mukaan kyllä laulamaan.
Joitakin huippubiisejä plus "provokatiivista" formalismia. Lopputulos: raskas kokonaisuus, joka palkitsee aina jollain tapaa. 3,5
It's Bob Dylan, it isn't bad, it's pretty good. Not quite my vibe
I like harmonicas.
I like covers of Bob Dylan songs much more than the originals.
not my favorite from Dylan. felt like it might be an album that’s carried by its lyrics and i don’t really care about lyrics
Still might like the idea of him more than listening to him but overall solid and happy this album exists.
⭐️⭐️⭐️/5. Not my favorite Dylan album, but not bad either. Definitely upbeat and more poppy than some of his others. Last few tracks are more classic folky Dylan and a high point for me!
Countryeggiante
This one was pretty enjoyable, but probably a bit forgettable for me. I don't think I'll remember much from this album. 'Mr. Tambourine Man' was good but dragged on for a few minutes too long Standouts Subterranean Homesick Blues Mr. Tambourine Man Gates of Eden 3/5
I did not use a private session for this one. Don't like his voice, his harmonica playing is amateur, but it all works. Maybe it's the lyrics, maybe its a genius who can make the most of his musical short comings.
Bob's music had never really spoke to me so the songs on the album were hit or miss for me. I was a fan of Subterranean Homesick Blues though
Not my favourite. I want to get into Dylan more but this is not the Dylan I was expecting. Maybe I need more time with it?
Back 1/2 very strong
Bueno estuvo bien.
I’ve always wanted to like Dylan. I guess I just don’t get it.
I enjoyed the first half of this album more than the second half. Thankfully I enjoy the sound of blues music, otherwise this album may have been a drag. This isn’t one of Dylan’s strongest albums but overall fairly enjoyable. 5.5/10 rounded up to three stars.
2.5 I feel I've reviewed this album 10 times already. Long story short very early Bob Dylan good. Mid-60s Bob Dylan bad.
I don't get the hype. In the context of musical history, even Dylan's history, I understand the impact, what going electric did for Dylan, and how it inspired many others and pushed music forward.... but it's fine. I've never liked Dylan, and then a Dylan-obsessed friend made me hate him. I've attempted discography listens in the past, but the albums selected for this 1001 albums list have given me something to appreciate in Bob Dylan. He doesn't seem so offensive to me, rather, he's just Bob; like a neighbor who lives in my building. I like him just fine, but we don't hang out or anything. Bringing It All Back Home is Bob succeeding at something he's passionate about. I can't say I would choose to put it on, but it's good that it exists for others to enjoy.
Baon. Encore Bob Dylan. Ok.
These are good songs and some great songs, but Bob Dylan is singing them it loses a star... 3.5.
I like the music and the lyrics. His voice is just a bit too grating to really enjoy it
The ever lasting Bob Dylan. One of his early album. A good listening moment.
The voice slightly grating, the tracks slightly too repetitive. Nice production overall, and the lyrics tend to work as well. I have to admit that I am more of a Cohen man. But this is okay.
Some classic songs….unfortunately his voice has never been the most melodic. It’s a 3 from me
I like Bob
yeah it's an ok Bob Dylan Album
Not a Dylan fan
Good.
not entirely my vibe but i like a few songs. not in love with his voice.
probably would have to be a certain folky mood to listen to this but it aint bad at all
124 albums in and this is the third Dylan album. I fear he is over-represented on this list. SHB is a classic and great start to the album. I like this album the best of all of his so far, but for the love of my eardrums, why with the harmonica?
Cool record, but definitely not for me.
It’s good, it’s Dylan. There are some great moments on here, it’s Americana baybeeee. Way better than the first half of that live album. 115th dream rules. Definitely disingenuous to write him off but he’s absolutely not what I’m looking for most times. I enjoyed this a lot more than I thought I would though, but still pretty 50/50. High 3.
This is #day292 of my #1001albumsyoumusthearbeforeyoudie challenge, and... yay, another Dylan album. To be precise, my fourth already. And there are three more to go. Compared to Blood On The Tracks, which I found very annoying, though it's kind of considered one of his best efforts, this was mostly all right. Maybe I'm just in a different mood today. Well, at least there's "Subterranean Homesick Blues" and "Mr. Tambourine Man." This is a 3 out of 5. Looking forward to #day293.
I think I liked it a little better than the first Dylan record we got, but it still didn’t really stand out. To be fair, I wasnt listening that closely.
I like SHB and Maggie's Farm quite a bit, but his singing just doesn't work well his songs most of the time for me. 3.5*
It’s okay. There are a few good songs, but there are a few that really amplify what people criticize Dylan about. He has better albums. 3/5 Might listen again
No es mi estilo uwu
Not my favourite Dylan, but classic innit
Pretty medium, but I do like tambourine man
Decent but not the best, 2.5/3
While I do feel like Dylan is growing on me I do still find his voice to be grating during the full length of an album. Like I’m always on board at first and then I slowly start to get bored of his delivery. That being said just like his other albums I’ve reviewed so far, this album’s strength really is the instrumentation. It’s just so clean and beautiful music. I always wondered how much popular Dylan might be if he had gone the “Burt Bacharach way” and had more guest singers on his albums. For me personally I think that would’ve helped me with giving alittle more variety in sound. But regardless of that “Maggie’s Farm” is probably my favorite Dylan song I’ve heard so far.
Interesting album with the split in acoustic/ full band sound. This made for an interesting listen after seeing that aspect touched on in “A complete unknown”. I was mixed on this as a whole. The opening track is among my fav Dylan tunes, and the acoustic rendition of “Mr. Tambourine man” is second to none. But once again swallowing a full album of Bob is a tall task.
Of all the albums by Dylan so far on this exercise, interestingly this one was the easiest to listen to front to back. I really liked the full band feel while also keeping his foot in the acoustic folk side. A better balance than some of his other works.
During “It’s Alright, Ma” I couldn’t help thinking about that scene from Happy Gilmore. How about I go eat some hay? I could make things out of clay and lay by the bay. I just may. What do ya say? Jokes aside, pretty awesome what he pulled off in that song. Overall a solid album but still a lot of Bob Dylan at once. 3.5 but just isn’t quite a 4 for me.
Our 4th Dylan album and my views on him remain unchanged: best consumed in short chunks. I find it very challenging to enjoy an entire Dylan album in one sitting. A couple solid songs, but overall this is just an average album IMO. 3.25/5
Can actually understand him in this one
Lyrically dense, as always with this guy. Of course it is quite a chore figuring out all the references and illusions that are scattered throughout this. Tantalizing as ever it enhances and butchers the album listening experience. I respect the artistry and poeticism that he bestows but man I just got done listening to Highway 61 Revisited and fuck I need a breather. With all this being said this was still a good listen and perhaps I'll come back to it when I get to. Top 4: Subterranean Homesick Blues, She Belongs To Me, Love Minus Zero, and Mr. Tambourine Man (did not this was covered :P) no bad songs 3.25-3.50/5
3.0 - Ok
No wonder people got mad when Dylan "went electric". The first half of this album (the so-called "electric side") is bookended by the great "Subterranean Homesick Blues" and the energetic-but-bizarro "Bob Dylan's 115th Dream", but in between those two songs it's a hard slog. Dylan mostly sticks to repetitive blues structures, and his backing band plays in a ramshackle, rudimentary style that frankly borders on amateurish. Arrangements are nowhere to be found, it's just everybody-playing-all-at-once-all-the-time, reducing everything to featureless mismash. The "acoustic side" (featuring Dylan mostly alone on guitar and harmonica) fares much better. Here he branches out beyond basic blues chords, which gives each song its distinctive stamp. "Gates of Eden" has moments of tension and release, which give the song a dramatic character. "It's Alright, Ma (I'm Only Bleeding)" has a sophisticated decending chord progression at its heart and features some of Dylan's most potent lyrics. An unnecessary bass part intrudes in "It's All Over Now, Baby Blue" but it's not enough to derail a song that serves as a fine album closer.
This is not my preferred era of Bob Dylan but it's certainly where he starts to get very Bob Dylan-y.
sure is bob dylan
Enjoyable. I'm sure other people have written enough long reviews about this one.
Pre-listening thoughts: after 275 albums Bob Dylan has made his first appearance. If Bob Dylan has 7 albums on the list, and there are 1089 albums on the list, that means we should have gotten our first Bob Dylan album at around 155 albums or so if the generator was to evenly distribute them. I was kind of hoping somehow we’d avoid him altogether but Post/during listening thoughts: PUT THE DAMN HARMONICA DOWN!!!!!!!!! STOP IT!!!!! Listen I hold the very popular opinion that Bob Dylan is a very talented writer but also a terrible singer. Everyone who has ever covered his songs (with the exception of Guns n Roses) has done them better than him. This was bearable. I do often think about the one guy on here who got like 5 Dylan albums generated in his first 100 albums or so and he like ragequit 😭 6/10 DID I NEED TO HEAR THIS BEFORE I DIE: no Fav tracks: Subterranean Homesick Blues, Love Minus Zero Least fav tracks: Outlaw Blues
A fine album, but there are better Dylan albums. Also shoutout to the to the RATM cover of Maggie's Farm. Mid 3.
Too much folk
Not many memorable tracks for me from this one. Not too bad overall though
ok. não foi meu favorito.
Country style, (or maybe more folksy?), but more laid-back in places, almost Velvet Underground/Lou Reed style of almost spoken word vocals (She Belongs to Me) Maggie's Farm is a Bob Dylan song??? Famous poetic lyrics, bordering on surreal. Musically not doing much for me. Best track - It's Okay Ma, I'm Only Bleeding
Sorry, I didn’t love this!
I have great respect for Bob Dylan, and especially appreciate his lyrical prowess; there is no question that this album belongs on this list. That said, a huge swath of what's here is musically pretty uninspired and repetitive. While admittedly the simplistic structure fits with his lyrical delivery, I honestly think I'd rather just read these separately as poems. A singular perspective can of course be enlightening in music and art, but the utter lack of musical conversation, particularly in the latter half, makes this album increasingly tiresome as it progresses. I'm ultimately grateful that Bob has shared his musings with the world, but at the end of the day, I much prefer listening to other artists interpret, expand upon, and add color to them.
"The beatings will continue until morale improves..." "Thank you, sir! May I have another?" Just like the heavens of hell have listened to my pleas after being beaten with Bob Dylan albums... Yes! There are too many Dylan records on 1001. But they have slowly turned me into a person that 'enjoys'(?) his music. At least I feel like I can appreciate it more. Honestly had no idea how prolific he was. I'm not going to say that I enjoyed this, but I wasn't compelled to turn it off... Also, please, listen to Mary Lou Lord's Some Jingle Jangle Morning... you wont regret it. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y1bzM50Pq7g
Not a fan of bob Dylan and cannot understand the fascination. But this is a pretty good album.
A lot of songs sounds the same.
Going into this, I thought I liked Bob Dylan more than I apparently do. While I can appreciate the influence and lyrical depth, most of the album was tough to sit through. His delivery, which some call iconic, just doesn’t always land for me, especially when stretched out over an entire record. “Mr. Tambourine Man” is probably the highlight, but even then, I’m not sure if I genuinely enjoy it or just recognize it from being so widely known. I’ve come to realize I only really connect with a handful of his songs.
I love how each song sounds like a story. It’s something I would hear at a party. It’s funny, but it’s got something to say. I like listening to it. Not my usual listen, but I can appreciate it.
The first Dylan album to feature electric instrumentation. That occupies all of side one, as side two shifts to more acoustic-based tracks. The departure from the folksy, protest-laden music from the past can be appreciated I guess. Tracks such as "Subterranean Homesick Blues" and "Mr. Tambourine Man" arguably represent Dylan at his best from a songwriting standpoint. He leans into surrealism more here in his lyrics, painting an image for those who wish to accept it. And despite that, this is probably Dylan's most accessible album when comparing to the many featured on this list. Not everything was a standout here, but it's been the least "annoying" Dylan album to me thus far, personally.
I'm not a big Dylan fan, but this was alright.
Not really a Bob Dylan fan and this didn't make me one. Alright though.
Bringing It All Back Home is the album where Bob Dylan shattered folk tradition, electrified poetic songwriting, and permanently expanded what rock music could express.
took a bit, but it grew on me. maybe i was taking it too seriously at first, but eventually tracks like bob dylan's 115th dream and others just made me realize that while it doesn't tear at my heartstrings, it's a good sound + unique storytelling. however, a bit repetitive.
Not really my style. But it was enjoyable
Pretty good release from Bob. I enjoyed the classic folk vibes. Also you could make the argument that this was the first rap album released on a major label (see Subterranean Homesick Blues).
Renkutusta, jotkut kutsuvat klassikoksi.
Jaahas.
Bob Dylan is rad if you had free time in the 70s/80s and were just bumbling around in the back of your truck fishing all the time. Otherwise, I don’t think I care to spend too much time with it other than studying for culture
2,5 ster.
she brleongs to me and the tamboruine man ar good sons
Kind of annoying x)
Surprisingly had not listened to this one in its entirety. Subterranean Homesick Blues and It's All Over Now, Baby Blue are a couple of my favorites.
Okay
Pretty decent, considering I never thought I was a Dylan fan, bit samey after a while.
It was alright for a bit, but Mr. Tambourine Man really drags it down.
Hell yeah Bob Dylan. It's pretty alright, it's great easy listening for sure and I'd definitely put it on while cooking dinner - I just wouldn't rave about it to my family and friends. The opening track bangs though.
