Reviews (page 10 of 13)
I used to think to myself 'hey I like the blues as much as the next guy', but I didn't realize the next guy might be Bob Dylan. A lot of these songs are great standalone, but as a whole, the album exposes the rigid structure of blues chord progressions. It makes each subsequent song get more and more predictable, and by the beginning 'Bob Dylan's 115th Dream', I also broke out laughing. This repetition is broken when we reach 'Mr. Tambourine Man' when he switches off the electric twang. I liked this half of the album much more; he explores more ideas than just the AABA-BBAA-CBAA blues, and the acoustic guitar compliments his unique, nasal voice much better (which grew on me a lot as the album progressed). Would have given a 4 to this part of the album if I could, but the first half of the album could have been summed up in a single song IMO.
I TRIED SO HARD TO LIKE THIS ALBUM AND I DON'T IM SORRY DONT CANCEL ME
Hit a note Bob--Just any note. Lyrics more than compensate. Strangely--the total package works somehow.
Surprisingly, I had not listened to much Bob Dylan before. Now I have. Not bad.
I like Bob Dylan..... in small doses. He becomes grating over time, and the back half of this album was a slog to finish.
Irgendwie chuntmer de Böb chli meh sympi übere als de rest vo dene amichöpf wommer die letscht zit gha hend natürlich immer pluspunkt fürd schnuregiige- ich würd ezt mal sege das de BD die bekanntischti schnuregiige isch wos git und au en pluspunkt daser eimal en lachflash becho hett und nachane eh super komischi story verzellt hett wiener usem knascht usbroche isch und sich entblöst hett bi de bank ich runde da ezt mal uf zumene drü wells den scho au no spassig gsi isch und irgendwie au wege dem absolute crazy intro vo watchmen wommer au am böbi sin song brucht hett (obwohl de ezt da nöd drufe gsi isch)
I don't think I have ever listened to Bob Dylan before. I think the music was alright, if a bit silly-sounding, and I actually liked the harmonica. The music reminds me of a Summer afternoon. The album is not something I would seek out normally, but it is not bad either.
I have a theory that the crowd at the Newport Folk Festival reacted so negatively to Dylan's electric set just because Maggie's Farm sucks as a song. The electric songs here aren't my favorite from Dylan, and the acoustic ones are pretty great.
If I didn’t know Highway 61 and Blonde on Blonde I’d probably love this. But as it stands this isn’t my favorite Dylan record. There’s some classic tunes but for me this is an up and down record.
nice
That was a really good album but I noticed something like for almost every song, it starts with the same rythmic riff so kinda disturbing which is also the same as "Blowin' in the Wind" so everytime a new song was starting I thought it was "Blowin in the Wind". So I don't really know if it's done to give a special tone like a specificity to show that this is "BOB DYLAN" like it's signature move or just it's a lazy move and he used it because it's easy to start a song like that. But it was a good album clearly not a banger but there was some good ones for sure.
Dylan has just never clicked for me. This felt like spoken poetry (admittedly beautiful and masterful) slapped into a basic blues/folk background that doesn’t change at all through the entire song. Which might be the whole point, but that’s not what interests me about music.
3 +3 = 6 /2= 3
I can see how this was revolutionary for its time, but I'm kind of indifferent
одна песня норм, остальные не очень понравились. не знаю почему Стас Гасилин так от него фанатеет)
Not much of a Dylan fan, but this is ok. Good even. A little monotonous at times. Buuuut I will probably never listen to this again. Three stars.
3.5
Two Bob Dylan albums already and an average rating of 1. A 2 and a 0. Perfect. Thrilled to see another one. I am genuinely enthused that this predates 1970 because this feels like it could be his actual prime. I will withhold the rest of my preexisting Bob opinions until they have been challenged or confirmed by the B man bringing it all back home. Take it away poetry grandpa. Like any good youngster, I first heard wind of this song through a Weird Al video. Hey man. This was actually good. I often use “subterranean” in reference to albums that suck. This was a good song. Fun phrasing throughout, cool lyrics. Not sure if I’d call him the greatest poet of our time or whatever, but it was at least interesting. His voice is too bad to not be surrounded by more stuff. This is too bare. Don’t need the Bob Dylan coffee house set. This is a pass. Hey. We all hate labour. Get outta here Maggie. And your dimwit brother too. Me and my new pal Bob are basing our entire personalities around leather jackets and reading hack poetry, so we don’t have time to be scrubbing your dumb brick window anymore. This song speaks to a sentiment that continues to bubble to the surface in modern society. As poignant today as it was then. Maybe more so. Despite my distaste for secretly conservative dude bros who co-opt “Dylan-isms” to pick up dumb women; this is an essential track. Hmm. They say quality skips a track on this album. Well. I’m saying that. This song is boring and too focused on bad vocals. It’s fine, but not what I’m here for. Whoa we’re getting’ wild now. Take that hippies, this guitar is through an amp. I get why they didn’t like it as much. It’s a pretty stark departure. Decent track. I see a giraffe and he doesn’t know the time. Ask the ancient phantom, spin from rime. The duchess and her hat, says “how about that?” Ah and the prince, he’s starting to get a little fat. *SCREECHING HARMONICA* Where’s my Pulitzer? Alright Bob. It wasn’t THAT funny. Bob Dylan’s 115th dream EVER??? He was 24. Truly rare. This is a cool song. Somewhat narrative based is better than the typical “Mary bought the farm; look at the sleeves on my arm” brand of “poetry.” Some very interesting lyrics here. Too long, but overall a fun highlight. Nah. This is not a great one. The departure from electric Bob is surprisingly unwelcome. Hey. Mr. tambourine Man. Some of us are trying to sleep over here. Cut the shit. Eden? Are we sure? Is this not Hades? Sometimes the guys who lean into the poetry shouldn’t do music. This is what this song feels like. There are no truths nor is there any justice in this song. Song is bad, poem is worse. Now this is an interesting poem. Also a bad song, but I’ll call it like I see it. Even though I find him unbearably pretentious, this is excellent writing. To me. Once again, like any art, poetry is completely subjective. This one speaks to me throughout. Good track for this reason alone. NOOO PLEASE DONTAHHHHH. Oh. It’s fine. He came in REAL LOUD. I was scared is all. Folksy expressions aside, we leave with a whimper. Not horrible, not great, just fine. I have a complicated view of Bob Dylan. On one hand, I begrudgingly like some of his stuff and I hate the idea of rushing to heap praise on one of the most overrated musicians to ever strap a harmonica to a guitar. On the other hand, he does some things that I genuinely hate. For starters, the singing here is better than it was in other efforts, but it’s still detracting heavily from these songs. For what he lacks in technical ability, he also lacks in likability. It’s grating. Now, the poetry. Hit or miss in every instance. More misses than hits for me. I think if you look at the typical guy obsessed with Bob Dylan, it gives you an excellent idea of the intellectual depth and quality of the poetry. I’ll leave that up to your interpretation. You know how if you’re a middle of the road singer and a middle of the road actor, you do musical theatre? Maybe middle of the road poets and middle of the road musicians do average folk rock? That’s where this sits for me. A middling album that sparkles at times, only to be let down by the hubris of its own creator. See you down the road, Bob. This ain’t over between us. 3 HIGHLIGHTS: Subterranean Homesick Blues, Maggie’s Farm, Bob Dylan’s 115th Dream, It’s Alright Ma (I’m Only Bleeding)
Fand es besser als Blood on the tracks, weniger Mindharmonika, aber ganz verstehe ich den Hype auch nicht.
Prefer his later work but still good
Bästa Dylan plattan på den här listan hittills. Inte något mind-blowing trots det. stark 3 Bästa låten: Mr. Tambourine Man
Almost every song on here has the same rhythm. I never noticed that before about Bob Dylan. Anyway, it's a chore to listen too.
this is a bob dylan album 👍 keep up the good work bob dylan fav: subterrain homesick blues
It's Bob Dylan, I understand how much influence he has on the music industry but for me, it's just average. Not my taste.
It was more angsty than I would've expected. Kind of shouty, I guess. It was good though, kind of strummy as well, but also hard.
Listenable but not my thing
More Bobby D, think that's three now. Would be surprised if it's the last. Sounded like I expected, you have the measure of Bob after an album or two. Had a few more songs I recognised on this one. I like Dylan but I wouldn't say I'm a fan and this album didn't change anything in that regard.
Thought it was okay, nice vibe.
3 out of 5. Fifth Bob Dylan album I've encountered on this list. Nothing really jumped out for me on this one either.
It was good but repeative
Yeah, I'm getting a bit sick of Bob Dylan. There were a couple songs on here that I liked, though.
6.5/10
Still not a big Dylan fan but like Subterranean Homesick Blues
I never really got all the fuss around bob dylan and this album didn't change my mind
No mal.
Bob Dylan natürlich schon geiler song writer.
didn't finish it sadly
1965 Cowboy Rowdy Something you would hear when bored on the highway Harmonica
It's alright, feels a bit generic in today's day and age. But that's only natural when it's Bob Dylan we're talking about
It’s Dylan
pretty lovely album :) I particularly enjoyed mr tambourine man (mainly for the name). a nice easy listen, with some nice jolly moments
bob really just be telling us stories and stuff and I'm okay with that good job bob interesting stories.
Big Bob Dylan fan, not a huge listener of his early songs though so this album was a nice / new-ish experience for me. The songs on this album were all equally pretty good, although nothing really stood out as exceptionally good nor bad either way. It all just sort of passed me by. Should probably relisten. Fav song: Mr Tambourine Man?
Musically not a great achievement. 5/10
Not crazy for Dylan honestly, but there's some unquestionable great music here.
Best Song: Mr. Tambourine Man. Dylan's voice has a nicely haunting sound on this track. It really exemplifies the quality that he is able to embody on his best tracks: that of a little boy, completely alone, shouting music directly from his heart. Worst Song: On The Road Again. Nothing like a folksy little ditty about how much a man hates his wife. Will hold this song up when people uncritically laud Bob Dylan's writing. Overall: Bob's feeling particularly electric and his enunciation is on its best behaviour, so this album's got a nice vibe going for it. He does rely a bit heavily on the same, extremely simple rhyme and meter for track after track, which gives the album a sort of Seuss-ical quality to it after a while, but you can ignore that if you don't focus too closely on the music.
I wonder if there is some diverging timeline in which Bob Dylan "didn't go electric". The double side business is interesting. I've always like rock and roll bob dylan but don't have a lot to say about any of the non Subterranean or Maggie's Farm songs. I wonder if it's _cool_ to really love gates of eden. It's Alright, Ma is a good one though. I wonder if the studio chatter at the beginning of bob dylan's 115th dream was one of the first apperances of this trick that i feel like every artist loves doing and everyone else tolerates. It's All Over Now, Baby Blue is as always a 10/10 and is such an enthralling vocal performance as well. And of course mr. tambourine man. I don't know. ALBUM SCORE? higher than exile. 7, 7.5, it's all over now baby blue is as good of a song as anyone made in the 60's. Won't listen again unless i do a full bob dylan listen. Which i might.
Quite Nice, didnt finish it though
First listen to bob dylan
Meh, Few good tunes but very samey.
Decent, bit old school for me though.
Never listened to a Dylan album. Thought his voice was annoying. This album wasn't a bad one to listen to. Glad to hear Maggie's farm. Last track I got bored with
you already know what i think of this amazing album
Harmonica
Lyrically and musically enjoyable.
A little to wild to listen to while working, but it reminded me of how much I love Mr Tamborine Man
Kappas ja taas Bob Dylania. Aika keskivertoa Dylania. Ei mitenkään ihmeellistä erikoisempaa, mutta silti ihan kuunneltavaa. Parhaat: Mr. Tambourine Man, Maggie's Farm, Outlaw Blues
3+ Stars (9/15)
singer songwriter, 1965 -> 3
Hmm. This is a difficult one. I acknowledge that Bob Dylan has a legendary status, but his voice is just not doing anything for me. The lyricism in his songs definitely do make it worth listening to, but whether I could return to it... I don't think so.
I was expecting to be disappointed by the vocal style but wasn't. Then again I struggle to think of a standout moment from this album.
Typical Dylan
Great song writing, but my overall impression was it's OK.
I enjoyed Maggie's Farm but most of this is there to be appreciated rather than enjoyed. 1st Half alright, 2nd fell off. High 2 or low 3, either way I'm not coming back
classic dylan sound with the poetic lyricism and more of a focus on the twangy bluegrass/country sound.
Bob Dylan is just one of those artists I don’t get along with. Having said that there’s two great tracks on here Subterranean Homesick Blues and Hey Mr Tambourine Man. Unfortunately there’s not much beyond those two songs that interest me
I enjoy mr tambourine man Will I listen to again: 40%
what to say - never been a fan of Bob Dylan but I appreciate him and there are certain tracks I actually adore - especially after Scorsese's documentary the Rolling Thunder Review. But a whole album no thanks
whatever bob
I will say this every time there’s a Dylan album on this list - I would rather live in a world where Bob Dylan exists than one where he doesn’t. But I have never been able to get into this. Maybe I was just born too late. It’s sort of like when I try to tell my students how much William Faulkner revolutionized writing. Super important but maybe not for everyone.
Love the pure inspiration
Not as good as some of his other work, but still pretty good.
Not my favourite - Mr Tambourine Man is a classic though.
Guys I gotta be honest… Bob Dylan just doesn’t do it for me. I respect the game. I do. The lyrics are quite good and I dig the guitar, but something about his voice I just can’t get behind. I’m open to listen to more, but definitely wouldn’t throw Bob Dylan on in a car ride.
Of the couple handfuls of Bob Dylan songs that I know, two are on this album so that was nice to listen to those in the context of the album. I enjoyed the mixture of folk with a little pop, even if Dylan’s singing voice is an acquired taste. I think this album automatically gets bumped up a star after listening to I Want To See The Bright Lights Tonight the day before.
I can count one one hand the number of Bob Dylan songs that I like, however, there are dozens of songs that I like that were written by Bob Dylan. I almost always prefer a cover of a Dylan song rather than the original. This album was pretty mild for me. "Mr. Tambourine Man" is a classic, but I'm not really crazy about it. I'm excited for other Bob Dylan albums, but this one doesn't nail it.
Lyricism amazing, whiny voice (sorry not sorry)… glad he experimented with some more electric guitar here but still was hard for me to get into.

Rejected
First listen. Third Bob Dylan album I’ve listened to. The two others are “Highway 61” and “Blood on the Tracks”. This guy has never fully clicked with me and that’s still the case unfortunately.
Enjoyable.
so nice of him to make an entire album for men who eat hay
Actually don't mind this. And I don't really like Bob.
not my cup of tea pero algunas canciones me gustaron :)
Enjoyed this more than I ever have Dylan but by god his voice is annoying
It's interesting for sure.
Fairly standard Bob Dylan. Everything besides Mr Tamborine Man sounded very similar
Dylan's music tends to emphasize the poetic lyrics over catchiness, so I'm usually lower on him than the general consensus. It's just harder to just throw on and go off of vibes. So with that baseline, and putting extra effort to actively pay attention, this was pretty good. This era of Dylan is fresh on the mind, having received "Live 1966 (The Royal Albert Hall Concert)" a week prior. Makes me want to watch the upcoming biopic "A Complete Unknown" to fill in the gaps in Dylan appreciation that I'm not picking up on currently.
I'm more partial to Subterranean Homesick Alien. Hearing Dylan play straight blues ("On the Road Again") is painful but the rest of the album is alright enough. Recognize/acknowledge that this is where he (partially, at least) WENT ELECTRIC so history etc etc. I will say his original version of "Mr. Tambourine Man" is much more palatable to me than the arguably more-famous version by The Byrds. I guess that really cements that I don't care much about perfect-pitch singing.... Anyways, it's fine. More songs about grey flannel dwarves would have been kick-ass. Favourite cut: "It's Alright, Ma (I'm Only Bleeding)" 5/10 3 stars
Never liked him
Classic old Dylan. The sound of 60's with some song legendary like tamburine man. I also like love minus zero. I should also read the lyrics carefully because he was a master in the storytelling
I have a lot of mixed feelings about Bob Dylan. On one hand, I think he’s a national treasure, and really respect his career and work, but on the other hand, I have never been a big fan. Having said that, I enjoyed this album lot more than I thought I would. Although in my opinion, so many of these songs sounds so similar, and they often end in a fade out which sounds dissatisfying to me. Still, I enjoyed this one and might just listen to it again. And let me say that this album totally belongs on the list of 1001.
Ok album but after a while started to get a lil bored
background music. it is not bad or annoying but not my cuppa tea
Another mid-tier album from a certain era. The issue with Bob songs is they often ramble in far to long. Some good passionate singing throughout though. 2.8/5 -> 3/5
It's not that I don't like Bob Dylan, I just hate that that stupid voice
molto molto country
I only have a passing familiarity with Bob Dylan's work. Really, only a few songs, and this was the first album of his I've listened to. This was released at a controversial time, when Dylan was going electric. And while it's certainly not shocking by today's standards, I can understand the backlash. It really was a fundamentally different sound, and it's what divides this album cleanly in half. I actually found myself gravitating to the acoustic side more. The lyrics on this album, overall, are interesting. I didn't sit down and dissect them under a microscope or anything, but some songs jumped out to me. I quite liked the zaniness of "Bob Dylan's 115th Dream", which is absurd throughout, but paints a picture of an America that's an insane, fantastical, incredible mess. Just as applicable today as it was back then. Columbus, good luck. Obviously, people listen to Dylan for his lyrics, not for the beautiful quality of his voice. I generally don't mind it, but I found it to get a bit too much on "It's All Over Now, Baby Blue". I liked the lyrics for this one, but I dunno, the shout-screaming kinda got to me. Or maybe it was just because it was just the culmination of 45 minutes of unadulterated Bob Dylan. I know I'll be seeing more of him on this list, and I'm looking forward to seeing his songwriting evolve. Fav tracks: On the Road Again, Bob Dylan's 115th Dream, Gates of Eden, It's Alright, Ma (I'm Only Bleeding)
Positively surprised by this one. I’ve never been a big Dylan fan, and thought it would be 46 tedious minutes of listening. However, I’ve quite enjoyed many of the songs. Mr Tambourine Man is, as we all know, excellent. I love RATM’s cover of Maggie’s Farm, and it turns out that the original is decent as well. I really liked the opener, which might be the second best song on the album. The last three tracks drag on a little, and I don’t like track 2 and 5 at all, so I can’t go up to a 4-star rating.
Classic.
It's Bob Dylan. You can get over his voice and harmonica or you can't. It's not my favorite record of his, but it's better than a few others. And this one has the honor of being divisive for having some electric (GASP!) instruments on it. The pearl clutching from the folkies is worth half a star in the rating at least.
I enjoyed this album SO much more than the the last two Dylan albums we've been subjected to so far. It had a more cohesive structure, and I loved how they purposefully left in the outtake on the track "Bob Dylan's 115th Dream." I often feel with Dylan that the art and the artist don't always seem like they're in sync (great poet and songwriter - terrible performer), but this album worked really well for me.
Good god, what a word salad. I want to like Bob Dylan, but I just don't. I like the rhythm and guitar in some of the songs, but this album is a miss for me overall.
Per usual, songs are well written. Also per usual, his voice grinds my geears. I didn’t hate this album, but Dylan is just not precious to me.
I can see why Bob Dylan is so influential. This album captures the essence (or my imagined essence) of 1960s counter culture. I can't say I'd listen to it again, it feels a bit dated, and doesn't really speak to me.
I liked it, but not as others
I too have generally tried to avoid Dylan. I think we dis see him live a few years back, however drinking was more interesting and thus it’s hazy at best. I listened to this whilst working so wasn’t drunk this time and actually I didnt mind it. His lyrics are interesting, and there’s no doubting some of the tunes are catchy. I imagine it was quite cool in the day. My gripe is that after a while the vocals fall into a very samey kind of rhythm, which makes them pretty repetitive. Still, a solid 3.
Think this is one that might be best with a time machine. Imagine it was a big deal 60 years ago. Wasn't expecting much but he's a bit of a lyrical gangster. If I was forced to sit in a coffee shop watching him strum away it would be awkward but on the Walkman enjoyed it, despite his annoying voice.
дикий запад 5/10
Among my least favorite of 1960s Dylan records, BIABH sees Dylan turning in a different direction. The record is riddled by an awkward split of electric and acoustic songs. And in this messy mix of style, there are some absolute classics sitting next to a few total stinkers. It's a 3 for me.
oh man
Some definite classics on here, subterranean, and Mr. Tambourine Man are two that I’ve liked for a long time. And some other hits that I don’t really care for like Maggie and Baby Blue. The rest of the songs I didn’t mind listening to, far less harmonica than the last Dylan album I had for this project which is a plus for me. I love when an artist leaves in mistakes like the beginning of Bob Dylan’s 115th dream. The rest of that song was silly but kind of fun.
More of a fun album than Bob's mean mug would indicate on the cover. As with our previous album covered, I preferred the electric tracks more than the acoustic tracks. Still not sure if I am a fan of Bob Dylan though, this was good but not really something I think I'm gonna be throwing on my playlists Highlights: Outlaw Blues, Subterranean Homesick Blues
I’m just never gonna love Bob Dylan. His songwriting is fabulous. But the whole harmonica/whiny voice thing makes me stabby. Every time I start liking a song, along comes that damned harmonica. That said, I can’t deny the importance of this record and the influence it had on the culture. I just really wish someone else was the performer.
I might start listening to folk music now that I know it's this anti-authoritarian
7/10
Likable and charming, some real classics I might keep listening to.
Nice to hear all the singles in album context
Fine but not my favorite Dylan that I’ve heard
It goes without saying Dylan is a better songwriter than singer, but I will say Dylan is a better songwriter than singer. I get the influence he has had on music, but his vocals kill it for me. I appreciate what Bob Dylan is, but I'm going to bring it all back home with a 3 rating.
Hmm...I always feel like with Dylan, I have an inability to appreciate him the way I should, in accordance with how influential he was to so many artists I love. But maybe this album got me a little closer. I have a feeling if I listen to this again while concentrating on the lyrics more (I couldn't do that this time), I'd get closer still.
Semi familiar. I realize it’s significance, but not for me so much.
High 3 72/100
Ain't it chief
The good: songwriting The bad: vocals The ugly: way too much harmonica
tracklist //ELECTRIC// 1. Subterranean Homesick Blues 2. She Belongs to Me 3. Maggie’s Farm 4. Love Minus Zero/No Limit 5. Outlaw Blues 6. On the Road Again 7. Bob Dylan’s 115th Dream //ACOUSTIC// 8. Mr. Tambourine Man 9. Gates of Eden 10. It’s Alright, Ma (I’m Only Bleeding) 11. It’s All Over Now, Baby Blue Pioneered folk rock. Later influenced acts such as Simon & Garfunkle which to me is apparent. Clear Blues roots. Instrumentation is typically guitar, drums, harmonica. Songs on the shorter side, around 3 minutes. Bob Dylan’s 115th Dream contains a candid opening with a restart of "take two." I don't know how common this was at the time / in the genre but it reminds me of green day / Billie eilish
I like Dylan, but this was a weak album. I started getting into it up when Don't Think Twice, It's Allright started playing, only to realize the album was finished and Spotify served me something else.
First album I listened from Bob Dylan. Musically, it's pretty good, well worked, good arrangement. Now for me, it's truely his voice being the deal breaker. Apparently or one like or not, and for me I truely don't like.
Another classic early Dylan album. Some excellent tunes though not quite the same punch and some other work.
This was fine. Some (mostly) upbeat Dylan with several classics tucked in: Mr. Tambourine Man, Subterranean Homesick Blues. Solid writing, as one would expect. I enjoy the plinky depth of some of the more "bluesy"/"rock" songs -- Outlaw Blues, Maggie's Farm-- but I didn't find myself moved significantly. Maybe this would hit different in '65 ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ For me its a softish 3.
Love: Bob's story telling and easy listening. Hate: Listening to his music with headphones on because of the surprise harmonica that comes in and nearly deafens me
A few good tracks, but no classic.
Pretty standard Dylan album, couple songs I really like, a couple lines that have aged incredibly poorly but nothing special overall in either direction for me
I realize now that I wasn't as big a fan of Mr. Dylan as I thought I was before starting the use of this album generator. I like this one, but it's the third I've heard and my enjoyment has experienced some diminishing returns, so hopefully I won't get another for at least a few hundred recs, or at all, and we can end on a good note.
dylan goður
Ganz nett, kann man sich mal anhören :)
Not my cup of tea.
Was aight. I expected worse but it was actually tolerable. Could probs jam to this every now and then. Maybe
Not bad. The lyrics stands out more than anything else, other than that i couldn't tell when one song ended and the another began.
No es el folk ni la etapa de Dylan que me gusta más, un poco repetitivo la vrd
I swear the only thing I hear in "Subterranean Homesick Blues" is Cartman singing "ME AND ARTEMIS CLYDE FROG GO SAVE SELMA HAYEK". I just can’t get over his voice. He’s like a less ridiculous Randy Newman. I know the songwriting is supposed to be the highlight of the Dylan experience, and there must be something to that because there are covers of these songs that I do really enjoy, just not these. Dylan’s performance style just doesn’t sit right with me; every lyric is half a step late and as a result everything sounds rushed and squashed together. Maybe his live stuff is different? I don’t know. Folk/singer songwriter stuff rarely gets me excited and I can’t say this did either. I know he’s a classic and revered and all that but not for me. Extra points for good songwriting.
I am in a group of people that read books or watch movies when I want a story to be told, and I prefer music that relies on... Well, music. And while I appreciate Dylan as a storyteller, this becomes a bit to much of the same gimmick.
I enjoyed it more than I thought I would.
It's always the same thing with me when I listen to Dylan. First three songs: This is the most unbelievable poetic songwriting have ever heard! Songs 4-12: Ugh...how can there be 7 minutes left in this song? He already sang 8 verses! *skip*
Standard Dylan
Aight
Classic
Definitely the precursor to (or contemporary of) a ton of music that I love. And I like this too, until it gets a little too grating for me with the nasally sing-speaking and harmonica (On the Road Again was a clear turning point in this album on this front for me). Maybe I hate harmonica? But I do love folk music.
Half and half electric and acoustic Dylan. I'm not a fan of acoustic Dylan, but the electric tracks on this album are pretty good.
While a classic, listening to this all the way through in one sitting is not the way to do it. Or rather I’ve grown to feel that Dylan’s later albums actually work together as a whole, while this felt like a mix of singles thrown together to create a whole album.
It's been a long time since I reviewed a Bob Dylan album. That was when I first joined this website. I like this album a bit better than the last one by Dylan. Everyone knows that he can write good songs. Wouldn't the album be greater if there weren't any harmonicas in it? 3 stars for "Bringing it Back Home".
Another good Bobby D album. 3.5/5
Bob Dylan is to white men as Taylor swift is to millennial women.
i can't believe bob dylan paid homage to radiohead, this is absolutely bonkers i can only imagine how awesome this would be without the harmonica lmfao about to lose my mind if i hear this awful harmonica tone again lmfao lmfao lmfao lmfao save me oh ym fod oh my god lmfao lmfao hahahahaha lmfao lmfoa i cant do this anymore i am deeply annoyed by this album lots of great tracks but hooooly fart this may be a zoomer take but old bobby is outdone by almost every artist that covers his work and even though his cultural impact is undeniable, i just wish i cared more about his music beyond the big hits 3/5 because its still a great album but i think i would like it LESS on second listen and wouldn't have too much of a problem giving it a 2/5
Catchy melodies. Found some of the songs to feel a bit whiny, but I think that's just his voice and timbre. Though there are themes I related to, I think the album is of its time, and had I been around when it was released I could perhaps read more into what Bob was saying. But some of the songs had almost a nonsense feel to them, just random words put to a catchy melody.
Tolerable. But not for me.
It’s chill. Catchy.
I finally understand the reference in the office with Bob Odenkirk’s character. The music is good, but not super interesting for me. I understand the impact and influence his music must have had during the "peace & love" movement of the 70s. I think the lyrical content is the best part.
As far a Bob Dylan music goes, it’s not totally unlistenable. Not a huge Bob Dylan fan , but it was alright to have on in the background
Of course I expected a number of Bob Dylan albums to appear on this list. This album puts on display Dylan's magic with words. While the lyrics are often cryptic and can be interpreted any number of ways, they are still poetic. Still, to someone like me who is not a HUGE Dylan fan, this album was very listenable. Notable songs include \"Mr.Tambourine Man\", \"Maggie's Farm\" and \"It's All Over Now Baby Blue\".
Solid Album. 6.5/10. Liked Subterranean Homesick Blues (of course) as well as Bob Dylan's 115th Dream. The laugh is kinda hilarious
I liked it kind of zoned out
2nd Bob Dylan album I got this week. I don't like Bob Dylan. This is not as bad as the other album. It's more rock than folk music. It doesn't matter as much that he's a bad singer with this music. Favorite song: Love minus zero
Some great classic songs, and a couple good ones I hadn’t heard before, but some were irritating, especially with the harsh harmonica. Didn’t particularly enjoy the listen.
A few classic hits. Love Mr Tambourine Man. Got old though. Was ready for it to be over. Thought I would like it more than I did.
Dylan for me is a cringe-worthy expereince, but out of respect I decided to listen to this classic record. With songs like "Blowin' in the Wind", "Masters of War", A Hard Rain's Gonna Fall", I got through it - for the most part. Had to fast forward a few of them. It's not all bad. I love Masters of War - especially now with America being so stupid! We need more folk songs about these cruel leaders on the planet!
Stick to song writing ha
I had never listened to an entire Dylan album before. Better than I thought it would be.
I just really don’t like Dylan’s voice. The music and the lyrics are money though.
It's not bad, but I can't do Bob Dylan's voice for an extended period. Not for me.
Gefiel mir besser als "Live 1966 (The Royal Albert Hall Concert)". 3/5
Old school goodness. Mind wasn’t blown but think it would’ve been better if I heard it 60 years ago. I think it would get better with more listens.
I was assigned "The Freewheelin' Bob Dylan" for my 165th album. This is my 167th album. "Blonde on Blonde" was my 156th. "Blood on the Tracks" was my 71st. "Time Out of Mind" was my 10th. Of those albums, I would cut "The Freewheelin' Bob Dylan" and "Time Out of Mind" from this list. This list has too many Bob Dylan albums. That being said, this is a good album and it belongs on this list. Dylan sounds like he is figuring things out; like who he wants to be and what kind of music he wants to make. He sounds like he was really coming into his own on this record. This is definitely worth hearing before you die.
Totally fine
Bob is a right little socialist scamp in this one and I love that for him. I don't think I'll be coming back to the album as a whole any time soon, but there's definitely specific songs that will stick with me. The surreality of his lyrics in this one were a surprise compared to his other stuff I'd heard!
I think it is clear that Bob Dylan is an influential song writer. His lyrics are great to the point that even today, people are still covering his songs. However, I do not think he is that great of a musician; he is just alright. I feel the same about this album, though his voice is a bit annoying at times. I feel like he has songs on other albums, like Knockin on Heaven's Door, where his vocals are better than on this album. Generally speaking, covers of his songs tend to be better than the originals (unless Axl Rose is singing it).
Better than the last Bob Dylan album I got, but he’s still not someone I would choose to listen to as his voice just isn’t that appealing. The album as a whole was fine though.
Ein ganzes Album ist mir zuviel strumm-strumm, aber sonst gute Songs
Subterranean Homesick Blues - 4 She Belongs to Me - 2.5 Maggie's Farm - 2.5 Love Minus 0 - 2 Outlaw Blues - 3 On the Road Again - 3 Bob Dylan's 115th Dream - 3 Mr. Tambourine Man - 2, Worse the 2nd time. Gates of Eden - 2 It's Alright, Ma (I'm Only Bleeding) - 2 It's All Over Now, Baby Blue - 2 Better than the Blood on the Tracks album, but still falls short of enjoyable. Bob Dylan would be so much better if he could just replace the lead singer. Overall probably a 2.5? Better than the other two, SLIGHTLY, so I'll settle with a 3.

Great Dylan. Just wears on me after a while.
Didn’t really make too much of an impact
Inegável a capacidade de concentrar hits.
Pretty good
Solid Dylan album. Iconic sound, but not as legendary as his other works.
I'm sure other people like it but it's not my style
3.5/5
Bobby, Bob-O, Robert. I had one of your albums literally 5 days ago. Let’s do it again shall we. I said in my last album review of his that he really feels like a greatest hits artist. Because no one on Earth would say that Outlaw Blues or Bob Dylan’s 115th dream is his best and adds to the album. The hits are some of the best I’ve heard, It’s Alright Ma is great. The highs are very high, the lows are very low. 3 again.
Some of the songs are just too long, but this is a really good album.
Was hoping to like it more, but for now I just think it's okay
First time listening-listening to Bob Dylan. Maybe if I had started with him earlier in life it would’ve been different? I guess all the copies have watered down the original.
Bob Dylan isn't my favourite, I've said it before, but Bringing It All Back Home is pleasant and interesting enough, has the right balance of playfulness and grit, has a couple of iconic tracks and also a few I didn't know but enjoyed, particularly Love Minus Zero. A high 3 or a low 4, he has a way of compelling you to give your attention to his sound, whether you properly enjoy it or not.
Decent. We've had better Dylan albums, I think we've had one or two worse, but this is good without being spectacular. Two classics on this album, the rest is fine, a middling to high 3.
Lyrical poetry, over fairly samey musicality.
Classic Dylan. If it weren’t for his voice and the harmonica I’d like it more.
I'm not the biggest Dylan fan, but I like what I like. This is probably one of his better albums for me. I like him better as a songwriter. I like what other people have done with his songs, but if you are into the originals, give this a listen.
First half was better than the later half. Cover is cool. Wish I liked his voice more!
It's a bob Dylan album. Maybe in his time this stuff was revolutionary, it's good and all but to mean it all sounds the same
meh
Bob Dylan always feels like a Bit Much to me. Especially this album, straddling his first two eras, and he tries to squeeze in both. It's fine, but it's a lot.
I was prepared to not like this, it being Bob Dylan, but it wasn't so bad. Dylan seemed to stay in his lane in terms of vocal competence, and some of the upbeat songs were pretty fun.
Solid Dylan album? What is this? Seems like every Dylan album, I say "this was the best one I've heard." I'm wondering if maybe it's not just Stockholm Syndrome setting in. Anyways... 3.49/5
i refuse to believe that Bob Dylan deserves to be on here again, like what the hell. however, Mr Tambourine was already in my liked songs and listening to it again, i do agree it’s a great song, however the issue i have with Bob is that, if you took all the songs i liked from all his albums and put it together - then it would be a 5 - no doubt. but there’s so much crap in between the gold. However; he does a mean harmonica, and i do love that sound so much, so for that song and the harmonica, it gets bumped up to a 3.
Don't like his voice, but didnt mind the songs
Quite liked some songs. Dylan's voice keeps being difficult. Not a native speaker so a lot of the intricacies of the writing are lost when listening and working at the same time
Genius song writing punctuated by 7 minutes of the repetitive rhyming babel
Yea, that was real nice
It’s John Denver
Blind album. Great style and songs. I can't hate Bob Dylan. I love what he does.
I suppose this album was a big deal when it came out, particularly in light of Dylan "going electric" at the Newport Folk Festival a couple short months later after it came out. It's good for sure, all of Dylan's 60s records are. It feels more like a scattered collection of songs though than anything else.
B- Subterranean Homesick Blues 3 She Belongs To Me 3 Maggie's Farm 3 Love Minus Zero / No Limit 3 Outlaw Blues 3 On The Road Again 3 Bob Dylan's 115th Dream 4 Mr. Tambourine Man 3 Gates Of Eden 3 It's Alright, Ma (I'm Only Bleeding) 3 It's All Over Now, Baby Blue 3 When will he go away?
3.5 what you’d expect from bob Dylan
Muy famoso pa lo regular que canta. Aixo si, sense autotune, al Dylan lo que es del Dylan 3/5
Had a lot of greatest hits on. Including the ones that go on too long
It was fine. I enjoyed what I was familiar with . The rest seemed convoluted or within a context deep in some memory hole.
Ganz oke, de bobby dylan halt oder
There are some classics on here, but also some not great ones -- 11 songs and almost 5 identifiable melodies. The world has dramatically changed and it feels like this music isn't as vital as it was then, but it's hard to argue against Dylan's impact. Maybe an occasional relisten, but not something I'd turn to often. 3.4
- Starts very well with Subterraneam Homesick Blues - The harmonica saves the second song - On the Road Again it's really good - Bob Dylan's 115th Dream is such a fun song, was boping my head the whole time - It's alright Ma (I'm only bleeding) - what a fantastic song, the best song on the album Overall great album, Bob Dylan really was one of the best. Rating the same amount of stars to Let It Bleed was a mistake, this is much better
Oh no.. I know Bob is a legend but some of these are hard to listen to. His voice is hit or miss cause I guess a lot of people love him. He got some good songs but I'll have to give this album another listen to see if it grows on me more
This is my favourite era of Bob Dylan and enjoyed the folksy harmonica melodies.
Nice southern blues, bit repetitive.
Good
classic Dylan!
Classic dylan. First song was great. I like Rodriguez better
There are a few good songs, but this album is just okay.
Too slow for my taste at this moment
A good listen beside my pool on a nice Sunday evening. Not my favourite of Dylan's Albums but there's some really nice stuff on here. Fav songs: - Love Minus Zero - Mr Tamborine Man - It's All Over Now, Baby Blue
I'm not a huge fan of Dylan, but this album was pretty good overall. Dylan's lyrics are all over the place, like a kooky fever dream.
I was honestly really excited to listen to this, as I've not had a lot of experience with Dylan but knew so much of his influence. I found my criticism being the same as most people - his voice is tonally flat and most of the songs blend together. I respect the man, but, hot take here - his son, Jakob Dylan of the Wallflowers is the more talented singer. I feel like now that I typed that, a bunch of Vientnam Vets are going to come knock down my door.
yaaaay my heart isnt dead vlog ha haaaa he heeeeee ho hooooo ha haaaaa i have no personal feeling for this record
Bob Dylan ist der Ursprung der Songwriter Scene und des Folks der 60er und 70er Jahre. Einfache Gitarrenriffs, eingängige Rhythmen zwischen Blues und Rock, Protestsongs in poetischen Texten.
Bob Dylan is a great songwriter but cannot sing
Liked a few tracks
It’s another one of those albums where I end up at a 3.5 and I just can’t round it up to a 4. Don’t get me wrong, for 1965, I think this is great lyricism across the board, and I think the first 7 tracks have such a great energy and sound and tempo to them. It’s the last 4 tracks where the emphasis is so heavily put on the lyrics at the sacrifice of the layered production of those first 7 tracks that kind of drag the album down from hitting that 4 for me. Take for example, “It’s Alright, Ma (I’m Only Smiling),” because it might have some of my favorite lyrics I’ve heard in a song yet, but the absolute minimalist production on it just doesn’t hit on my sensibilities, and that’s where you sort of lose me as a listener. It could definitely go up to a 4 on some subsequent listens, but I don’t think I can bump it for now.
Big Beat 90s fun
It's good music, but not really my style. I generally got more into it as it went, definitely don't see the electric promised, but good storytelling.
Legendary Dylan
Enjoyed the listen, but I didn’t really like most of the songs. My favorites were less upbeat and more sentimental songs. 6/10
Sounds like the 1960's equivalent of a D&D Minstrel. Each song is more of a poem with musical accompaniment, which I guess is to be expected from Dylan. Wish I liked it more, but it's just kind of boring to me.
Dylan album #4 for us, this was generally pretty good, though I preferred the electric front half to the acoustic second half. Upper 3
ну на самом деле один из самых приятных альбомов Дилана история с битлами конечно стоит отдельного внимания
a good album, mr tambourine man a banger
Bobby D is one of those classic artists I’ve never really cared for, but I didn’t mind sitting through the entirety of this album. The closer, It’s All Over Now Baby Blue, was the standout. I don’t think I’ve ever heard the original before.
worse than the previous bob dylan album we listened to
Classic Bob Dylan and influential for being his first foray into electric sounds. However, just not that many stand out songs compared to highway 61 revisited that would follow less than a year after. Still a good listen. 3.5/5
Cool
I was familiar with Mt Tambourine Man and (I think) with Subterranean Homesick Blues. Dylan certainly has his own sound, but he's more about lyrics than music. I don't have any strong feelings about electric vs acoustic, which I guess was a major division at the time.
A few of his songs I know amd enjoy, but a lot of stuff that ends up sort of as background noise.
Nothing to write home about
It was good but very samey.
This is good, upbeat, full-band Dylan. The energy is high and the rhythm compulsive. I much prefer this, these days, to his solo folk offerings. There are some classics on here, kicing off with Subtaerranean Homesick Blues. THe highlight is the final track, It's All Over Now, Baby Blue. Good album.
3.5
es nices album, aber es bitzli zu ruhig für mich :)
Brain on a cheesegrater after listening to 3 Bob songs in a row.
3.5/5
It’s a good one Bobby
I've got a lot of respect for Bob Dylan, this album felt very sincere
Ni fú ni fá este Dylan y Tambourine man me gusta mil veces más en la versión de los Byrds.
Subterranean Homesick Blues Mr. Tambourine Man
Dylan's always OK
Because Dylan was a little before my prime listening era, all I ever heard, back in my childhood, was the whiny voice, the confusing lyrics, and the fun harmonica. I can appreciate 'the whole' a bit more these days. I get it. He was more than a folk singer. He was one of the original anti-establishment icons, and should be appreciated for such. I've have always given him a 10 for lyrics, but the rest of the offering never hits better-than-average marks for me. My favorite track was 'Bob Dylan's 115th Dream' - very creative!
Bob songs in isolation, great. Many Bob songs in a row not so much.
This dude loves his harmonica
Mr Tambourine Man! Subterranean Homesick Blues was not bad either.
Cant get into it. I want to but its just not clicking.
Soulful! Trip out and jam
Never a huge Dylan fan, but was more enjoyable than I'd expected. Might give it another listen, but don't expect to be in my normal rotation.
I've never been a huge Dylan fan, I do appreciate his song writing skills, they are quite impressive. It's hard for me to get past the twang, and as he got older, the twangier it got. Ooof. I do think there are a couple of songs that didn't get radio play like several on this album. I really enjoyed 'Outlaw Blues', so much so, I now have it in my playlist. I believe it is my only Dylan song. My most favorite Dylan song would be 'Knocking on Heaven's Door'... sadly it was GnR's version that first introduced me to it. Oh well.
Not bad LOL
It was good. But most of the songs sounded the same just because of that "Bob Dylan Sound"
There's too much Bob Dylan in this list for sure, but this is my favourite one so far
Not really my style. The second half of the album is significantly better but did not captivate my attention throughout the entire album.
Can’t believe he’s been around for so long. It was OK.
Lustig aber anstrengend. Folk.
Mr. Tambourine Man is pretty good.
This is was okay. Not really my genre. I will admit the guy is a good story teller. But other than that, not impressed. Basic instrumentals. His voice is… okay. The accent helps
Favorite Song(s): Subterranean Homesick Blues, Mr. Tambourine Man Least Favorite(s): Love Minus Zero, Bob Dylan's 115th Dream Overall Rating (1-10): 6.3/10
Not a huge Dylan fan, but it's a nice listen.
meh its bob dylan
It's Dylan, so of course the lyrics are clever and flow well. The instrumentation is good too. The mix of rock and folk through electric/acoustic guitar and harmonica flows smoothly and feels natural.
I didn't find the vocals as annoying as I did for "Blonde on Blonde"; not sure if I'm just getting used to Dylan or if this album was less whiny. I didn't like the music overall quite as much, though, so both albums get a 3 from me.
Very Bob Dylan.
Bobby D
A really good listen, Dylan’s lyrics are always killer. 3/5
Bob Dylan’s got some bars, his voice wasn’t as annoying on this record.
There’s some good songs on here but Bob Dylan has never really been my thing
I think I am not the biggest Dylan fan
He's a better poet than he is a singer. He had some important things to say. There were a couple songs on here I enjoyed, but his voice grates on me quickly and most of the vocals are, like, one note.
Yeah, I like Bob but that voice gets to be a bit much.
I'm sure it's better if I gave it a closer listen and payed closer attention to the lyrics. Ultimately it sounds like every other Bob Dylan album I've heard. 3/5
