Reviews (page 11 of 13)

I don’t like Bob Dylan. Some of the songs are cool but his voice really irks me.

I found his voice really annoying after a couple of songs. Bit of a boring record, to be honest.

Mr. Tambourine Man

Even though I'm not a Dylan fan, I have to admit that Subterranean Homesick Blues and Maggie's Farm are great songs. Add to the fact that this was the first time Dylan went electric, it was hugely influential. I still can't stand his voice though.

3/5 Not my jam.

Good Bob album, but far from being Bob's best. His songwriting on this doesn't hit quite as strong as some of his other projects, not as punchy and immediate as Highway 61, but still, I like the instrumentation on this one a lot.

Okay-Good, but sounds very old. A lot of harmonica.

A mixed bag of great songs with some so so ones

Joah ok

Pretty straightforward album. Nothing complex. Just acoustic guitar with basic simple chord structure and occasionally a harmonica. Bob Dylan's got a unique voice, and I can see why he's popular. But nothing seemed profound. I get the impression he focused more on the lyrics than the music itself. Some of the songs seemed almost like spoken word poetry than singing. I guess that's his brand. Not terrible music, but not particularly exciting either.

Nice lyrics, sound and songwriting, should listen more attentively again

meh 3*

I’ve discovered I don’t like “early” rock and roll that is more twangy

nicht schlecht, aber absolut nich meins

Heard it before?: No Enjoy it?: it was ok Favourite song: Track 8 - Mr Tambourine Man

I like the bluesy vibes. I enjoy the first half for what it is, but the second half is what does it for me.

Not a super fan, but have to appreciate Dylan's songwriting/musical composition.

I am definitely not a big Bob Dylan fan and I often find his vocals to be hard to stand. Unfortunately, for him, his vocal delivery is one of music's biggest parodies and to this day hearing Bob Dylan, I can't help but associate annoyance with his vocal nuances. That being said, this album was a lot better than I thought. I don't think I've ever sat through a whole Dylan album before. I do enjoy some of his music. I strongly feel that if it wasn't Bob Dylan's music that hit the right ears, at the right time, it would have been someone else that would have filled those shoes. Mind you, I can't deny his influence on a lot of artists, and to this day, a lot of people are still influenced and inspired by his work. I will give credit where credit is due. The first half of this album is great. I'd give it a good 4/5. But the latter half brings it down to a 3/5. First half is accompanied by a band, and electric guitar which is refreshing from Bob Dylan's singer/song writer and acoustic traditions. The second half is more of what Bob Dylan is known for and it's kind of drab and boring. This album suffers from what songs not ending. It's like Dylan didn't know how to finish a song. Instead of having an end point, he resort's to fade outs.. And often it comes abruptly. Throws the feel of the song(s) off. For the most part, lyrics in this album are really good, and dialed down/focused. But a lot of the songs suffer from his vocal delivery. Unfortunately, I can't overcome that. And I am ok with this. Will I revisit? Maybe the odd song, but not the whole album.

69/100

I feel like I’m going insane.Bob Dylan’s music is perfectly fine but I don’t see the brilliance that so many talk of when they discuss his music or this album. It’s perfectly forgettable folk music. Not really a memorable song in the bunch.

5.5/10 Witty, fast-paced, forgettable Highlights: It's Alright, Ma

I like this one more than the previous.

Initial thoughts: I've always known about Bob Dylan, because who hasn't. I will admit, I've never heard any of his music, so I'm interested to see if this album showcases why he is as famous as he is. Final thoughts: Hmm. Idk about this one. Don't get me wrong, it was good. I've realized that I know Bob Dylan because it seems like everyone and their mother covers his songs. Which is why he's considered a great singer/songwriter, but I guess his style of folk wasn't my cup of tea. Still, it was good so I give it a

Decent album. Very good story teller.

good. raw. kind of annoying

I dunno man, me and the dyl man continue to struggle

It's not bad - another middling Bob Dylan for me. I kind of appreciate him, but I'm definitely not a fan outside of a number of songs. Subterranean Homesick Blues is great and the standout track. The rest are kind of just nice. He still has the habit of having waaay too many verses in a lot of his songs, but once again, at least the harmonica doesn't grate here.

Razočaravujuće kako je krenulo. Intro nažalost najjača traka. Kukuriku instrument jako iritantan.

This album can be summed up in two words: Bob Dylan And I don't mean that in "all Bob Dylan songs sound the same" nor do I mean that as a sarcastic jerk complaining about Bob Dylan (despite my actual dislike for his singing voice) If you were asked to describe the prototypical Bob Dylan - you would point to this album. It's textbook. When Weird Al went after Dylan, he chose Subterranean Homesick Blues. Definitely recommend a listen to Weird Al's Bob - highly endorse. I am gonna be honest again. I hate Bob Dylan. I think he's a brilliant lyricist (poet is a better word) and songwriter. Dude can't sing and sounds like nails on a chalkboard. But because of how much this album encapsulates Dylan in all his glory, I'm giving it 3 stars instead of 1

It’s a Dylan album, thankfully upbeat and not as much of a slog as some others but still not my thing. Feels like this guy’s entire discography is on this list, and while I know he was an impactful figure in music, weren’t there other folks who deserve some of the spots all of these LPs are taking up?

You were good. I was waiting for you to be great.

First few tracks are real groovy

CLASSIC DYLAN. GREAT BECAUSE YOU CAN UNDERSTAND THE WORDS THAT ARE COMING OUT OF HIS MOUTH.

decent but not really my vibe

Classic bob dylan sound throughout. When I think bob dylan this album is all that the entire time.wish I LOVED but 3.5/5.

Not my favorite Dylan album

boring. story telling is not how I interact with music. b side is way better. A side is 2, B side is 3.5 gates of eden

interesting to listen to and i can see why it had such an impact as it was very much not a rock or pop album but the time they have a'changed and it didn't impact me that much.

- Only 46 minutes thanks Bob - Some of the songs had good energy ngl, but others were same old Bob - Still better than the other Dylan albums we've had; I'll give it the mildest of 3s

I overall like Bob Dylan and a couple of his albums are no doubt, 5 star favorites of mine. He can be hit or miss, though. This album is more hit than miss for me, but not one of my favorites of his.

Sometimes, I feel I like Bob Dylan's work much less than I should like. By listening to many of his albums along this list, I'm more and more convinced that I just assumed I should like him for no particular reason, even without actually listening to his songs. Anyway, it's a good album, but maybe it's, in fact, not my cup of tea or maybe I'm not ready for it yet...

First half of the album kinda bored me but maybe cos I've heard it so much. Latter half was great

Great album, I've just heard way to much Dylan over the years

Mr Tambourine Man and Its Alright Ma I'm Only Bleeding are the only highlights on this album.

Doesn't tickle my fancy, nothing here was an ear worm for me.

I like Bob Dylan, I just don't love him. The album is good for background, a couple of very familiar songs on the album, but not my favorites of his.

it’s pretty standard dylan imho. def not as good as freewheeling

Hey well a rather listenable and engaging Bob Dylan album. I’m guessing it’s a classic - and while normally I shun that harmonica swallowing nasal songster - he’s quite easily likeable here.

I've never really listened to Bob. I quite enjoyed this - a lot less grating and long-winded than most of his other songs I have heard. Hearing this I 'get' why he is so lauded. To a degree. There are some good songs here, and a few great lines, and the blending of genres works well. Would I sit down and play this through again though? Probably not.

"Next to Lord Buckley on the cover is a glass collage by Dylan called "The Clown" made for Bernard Paturel from colored glass Bernard was about to discard." - truly Dylan's lost masterpiece

Better of the ones so far. Still not my favorite artist

I like this one more than the other one I listened to recently. The music was nice and I didn't find myself bored. Nothing special to me, but good. My favourite song was Mr. Tambourine Man.

For now a 3 star album, may change later. Really sounded more like poetry (or slam poetry) in parts, especially on It's Alright, Ma. One of his better albums, I get it now. Chill to listen to. + Maggie's Farm + Bob Dylan's 115th Dream + Mr. Tambourine Man + It's Alright, Ma (I'm Only Bleeding) + It's All Over Now, Baby Blue

It’s Dylan!

I feel like I say the same thing over and over when it comes to Bob Dylan. He is a brilliant lyricist. The songs are classics but they do go on a bit. Never a fan of his voice and I do think that sometimes the covers of his songs are better than his. Case in point - The Byrds version of Tambourine Man! I did prefer the first half - so the electric part - the acoustic part wore a little thin. But there’s no denying he is a damn fine poet.

Bob Dylan is a great songwriter but I struggle listening to him in large doses. Fun guitar and harmonica parts. Cleaver lyrics and interesting stories. Classic folk/blues.

Bob Dylan for sure.

it's ok

I feel that every song of Bob Dylan I like, I like because someone else does it better. They sing it better, they perform it better. I can name on one hand the songs of his I like that Dylan performs where I really like his delivery. And none of them are on this album. Yes, I am well-familiar with a number of the tracks on the album, but his singing is just so... gah. I just can never get past it. I think that goes back to hearing the 30th Anniversary Concert they had for him, and everyone's take on his stuff seemed so damn good. As a lyricist / songwriter, Dylan is above the pale. If only he was a better singer.

This album is good, just not overtly memorable for me. I could see putting it on as background music (I just spent 2.5 hours listening to it on repeat while replying to emails). I don’t know what you want me to say Man. It’s an album. Gardens of Eden was a bop though I’ll give it that.

I was familiar with two of the tracks from Bringing It All Back Home just by the titles, but most of the album was new to me. I like a lot of work from Bob Dylan in general. I have some favorite tracks from other albums that I will probably always come back to. I enjoyed this listening experience. Even though Dylan's singing ability is limited, his lyrics help to keep the music interesting. Unfortunately by the last few tracks, the tracks began to feel like they were getting stuck in a rut of long lists of ideas without much melody from the vocals. I did like this album, but may not come back for a complete re-listen in one sitting.

Screech

does not dig Dylan but ok

Never been a fan of his weasley voice and thin sounding recordings. I do respect his song writing which is evident on this album. 3/5 for me.

I am no fan of Bob but maybe I can palate his earlier stuff. I do love the opening track and the rest seemed less harsh on the ears to what I’m used to. A lot of rambling nonsense in there though and it is a bit long. Much closer to a 4 than I’d have expected.

It was fine

I did recognize some of the songs, still a good listen

Not as good as other Dylan albums but a worthwhile, a bit too bluesy listen.

This is the first VinylI stole out of the Basement. Still the only Dylan album I like. Throws me back to a scnee i didd in drama where I was taking excedrin and listening to bowie so that s cool.

Now, Dylan is a very marmite kinda artist. You either love or hate him in my experience. You either GET him or you don’t get him. This album is a great entry level for him. The dude knew his stuff, and this proves it. Excellent album but as with all Dylan stuff, I can take it or leave it.

As familiar as I am with Bob Dylan, there is a lot of music I haven't heard. I know very few albums all the way through. I like his music, and some of his songs are among the best I've ever heard. That said, this album wasn't particularly exciting to me. I may be a Bob Dylan greatest hits fan, and not as much of an all-in Bob Dylan fan. I suspect there will be many opportunities through this list to find out. 1 - bad 2 - average 3 - good 4 - great 5 - outstanding

didn't blow me out of the water; not my personal taste but I can appreciate the lyric writing and musical elements of this album.

Good storytelling but wtf is Bob talking about????

Bonne musique d’ambiance.

Average chill

It feels like heresy, but I’m just not a big Dylan fan. Subterranean Homesick Blues is good of course. Love Minus Zero is good. No denying Mr. Tambourine Man is a great tune. It’s Alright, Ma and It’s All Over Now, Baby Blue are good, but by the time I get here I’m having trouble listening to his voice.

I like Bob Dylan overall, but through listening to this I've discovered I like him better in small doses. This album definitely dragged a bit as a whole, although most of the songs were solid individually. Best tracks: She Belongs to Me, Outlaw Blues, On the Road Again, It's Alright Ma.

Jangly classic Dylan. Not my favorite. All the songs start to sound the same after a while, with catchy but often meaningless lyrics/rhymes, too many verses, and fade-outs.

Not a bob-fan. A couple of great tracks the rest is just annoying Bob Dylan. 3/5

Considering I'm not a big fan of country/folk music, this album was not bad. I actually ended up liking 2 of the songs which is 2 more than I thought I was going to like. I loved "Love Minus Zero" and it sounds like a Marty Robbins song to me. A lot of the time harmonica sounds annoying to me in songs, but in these songs it's played beautifully and is tastefully done.

It’s definitely an experience but it wasn’t terrible

Liked about half of it which was surprising since I thought I would enjoy this more. 3 stars for the hits.

Hard to judge this away from my dad and other boomer exceptionalism. I like Dylan...but there's just so much about him that's wrapped up in the ego and politics of his time...it's hard to enjoy purely. Ultimately I'm not sure it's really my cup of tea anyway, perhaps that's why I fixate on the peripheral aspects of him. Some tracks are fascinatingly complex and surreal, but all of it heavily overlayed with cynicism. Also his voice is really flat.

album starts off fast, upbeat, it's great. second song - about a woman? or a metaphor? dig it either way. has mr tambourine man - classic. heavy percussion in a way, raw sound, stream of consciousness lyrics a lot of the time.

He was young when he wrote this, and I wonder what he experience to be inspired to write this. I really like when he uses the electric guitar, and I really don’t enjoy the harmonica as much. There are some catchy songs on this album tho

Bringing It All Back Home is the fifth album by American singer-songwriter Bob Dylan, and was inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame in 2006. This folk rock album utilized electronic and acoustic songs, but this was the first where Bob Dylan was backed by an electric rock and roll band. This album also featured a change for Bob Dylan in which he was not creating protest music, instead opting for complex and surreal lyrics. Bringing It All Back Home is regarded as one of the greatest albums in rock history and was influential for future rock music. I liked this Bob Dylan album more than his other albums I have listened to, and I believe it's because he was no longer protesting or pushing a social agenda - he was just making good music.

Better than the late live one I had to listen too, some classics. Youtube continued with Desire, my favorite Dylan album. Hope that one will be in 1001 albums too.

Good listen

Subterranean Homesick Blues is a great song which Bob sounds great on. I don't like Maggie's Farm as a song.

I generally hate listening to Bob Dylan sing, but I ended up appreciating this album. Easy to see this being groundbreaking in 1965. Probably won't listen again, but glad I listened once.

It was ok

Niukka kolmonen.

I feel like I'm too young for this music :>

I have been wondering if I would like Bob Dylan more nowadays. I tried listening to his music some time ago but it didn’t really click for me, but I’ve since fallen in love with other folk musicians (namely Carole King and Joni Mitchell) so maybe my opinion might have changed. Songs I already knew: Mr Tamborine Man Favourites: Mr Tamborine Man, It’s Alright Ma (I’m Only Bleeding) I think my biggest problem with Bob Dylan is that I just find his voice quite grating. He sings with this strange nasal tone with a somewhat squeaky timbre that just makes his music somewhat difficult for me to listen to. Vocals aside, his instrumentation and storytelling through music is very good. Other than the songs mentioned above, I did also enjoy Maggie’s Farm for its storytelling. Overall, I can certainly appreciate aspects of this music, and certainly understand the appeal for some people, but the vocals are just too jarring for me to say I really enjoyed this album.

Good Bob Dylan music, what are these lyrics?

It was Bob Dylan I guess. Has a couple of tracks that I liked though but like with other Dylan releases, most of them blend together a little bit for me.

Got bored

A solid album from Dylan but not one of my favorites. I think he's still learning what to do with electric instrumentation here in a way that's better executed later on. Some solid songwriting still though.

Interesting album with some recognisable songs

This was more enjoyable than I expected with a couple of classic Dylan tracks. 3*

Perfectly cromulent but not his best in my opinion.

As with all 7 Bob Dylan albums on this list, I'm rating this relative to the other Dylan albums on here only. As such, this work has some of his best poetry, and the acoustic side in particular has some very impactful songs, but musically there are much better Dylan albums out there, and of course much worse. 3 lamp posts with folded arms out of 5.

It's 1965. You just got back from the Human Potential Movement seminar, where ideas such as 'you're only using about 10% of your brain" or "Every child born has, at the moment of birth, a greater potential intelligence than Leonardo da Vinci ever used" were preached as gospel. You're about to smoke some absolute reggie; your friend comes over with the new Bob Dylan record, which you think is about to be 'totally copacetic.' The first song plays, Subterranean Homesick Blues. Bob opens up with Johnny's in the basement, mixin' up the medicine I'm on the pavement, thinkin' about the government This is the most profound thing you've ever heard. Two decades later you will go on to vote for Ronald Reagan twice and believe a muslim caravan is heading straight towards your doorstep. I am a Dylan realist - great artist .The countercultural movement of the 1960s was bankrupt; some good things (Vietnam, Civil rights) but mostly decadence (that's all Free Love was, really), ultimately becoming the vanguard for the culture of narcissism that we were born into, or what our parents were born into. (Shout out to the Lasch readers in the group) One thing I really appreciate about this album is Dylan's singing. In the late 1960s it starts to get really nasily, you can hear the change on Nashville Skyline. Yes I know there's exceptions, Simple Twist of Fate, The Man In Me - whatever I think the early deliveries were overall better, more raw. Mr Tambourine Man, It's Alright Ma(I'm Only Bleeding), and It's All over Now, Baby Blue are the hits. One last thing on the mythization of Dylan: here's a good review I read on Meet Me in the Bathroom, a book about the indie-rock bands of the early 90s/aughts But while reading Meet Me In The Bathroom is a pleasant enough experience it is also a stone-cold bummer because: damn, man, I don't want my generation to descend up its own butthole the same way that the Boomers did. Look: I was in college when a lot of these bands released their first records. I remember the Strokes being played at house parties. I fell in love with Interpol during 2005, which was the first year that I was living completely on my own, two and a half thousand miles from where I grew up. Hell, the National - who are interviewed in the book but not really discussed - have been my favorite band for going on a decade. But it's a big leap to go from "I like these bands" to "these bands were important. They Meant Something." Did these bands change things? Sure, why not. But you know who else changed things? Reality TV and Starbucks and PornHub and SpongeBob Squarepants. I'm told that a butterfly can change the world if it flaps its wings hard enough. and it's allllll over noooooooooow, buuhhhhhhyyyy bluuuuuuu

This is an interesting record. I have never listened to a Dylan album before. Kinda funny how most of these songs just dont have an end and just fade out. Also his lyricism is insane, he just says random bs but it usually works. He's got an iconic voice thats for sure. I expected more from this album because its Bob Dylan but it wasn't bad by any means. The definition of average 5/10

Good Album, 3 Dylan albums so far I think.

More ambivalent over this one than other 60s Dylan albums I’ve heard, though it has some great tunes like “Subterranean Homesick Blues” and “Mr. Tambourine Man”. Lots of 12-bar blues in the first half, and I felt the length of songs such as “115th Dream” and “It’s Alright Ma”. October 10, 2022

First day office, weird hh vibes, feet hurt, tired but good

have spent most of my life hating Bob Dylan. This is the Dylan i do like though. a bit of energy in it and not carried so much by him and his voice, which is poop

Good grooves for working. Should go back and listen to the stories in the lyrics

not my favorite bob. electric guitar bob. Baby blue is better performed by Them

Interesting split what the electric and the acoustic folk. A lot of influence came from here, I'm sure.

It's Dylan. What else is there to say?

Not a massive Dylan fan but this is pretty decent

I can finally say I’ve heard Bob Dylan, it I wasn’t expecting to hear something Yelawolf sampled.

Couple good songs, Bit repetitive but overall worth a listen

Very cool, but it seems that BD only knows how to play in 2 different BPMs. Maggie's Farm, SHB and Mr. Tambourine Man clearly stand out (there's a reason why they're the most known songs of the album). The rest is great 60's folk but not really unforgettable.

Was okay, bit too old for me but some catchy songs. listened to the whole thing

Not my favorite of Bob Dylan's work, but it is a decent album regardless.

Interesting lyrics

3/11, 27%

He wrote a good protest song, and Subterranean Homesick Blues is great and the film clip to it, iconic but a little bit of Bob goes quite a long way

As Bowie described his voice, like sand and glue. Shades of bluegrass twang as well.

One of the greatest songwriters of all time Liked Outlaw Blues, On the Road Again, Mr. Tambourine Man Heavy on the harmonica

There’s some Bob Dylan I like a lot, and some I think is fine. Highway 61 is by far my favorite album of his

Couple of great songs and the rest is okay.

Having this alongside The Fall was interesting. Both if their vocal stylings were unique and mildly annoying. It's a fine set of songs though.

Another great Dylan album! This felt like classic dylan even though I didn't mark any as favorites. I feel like each time his album pops up I have to mention how we are always impersonating dylans voice and lyrics and this album is probably the closest to that.

Probably the best Bob Dylan is going to get for me personally

i'm not really into it but i can't deny that the man has talent

I can appreciate that people LOVE Bob Dylan. He's ok for me. Kind of the same sound for every song, every album. I listened to this one a few times, it is worth listening to, but don't think I'd ever go back to it again. Glad I got the chance to hear it. 3/5

'Bringing It All Back Home' tends to get lost sandwiched between the outstanding LPs Dylan recorded before and after. Consider the preceding three- 'The Freewheelin’ Bob Dylan,' 'The Times They Are a-Changin’,' and 'Another Side of Bob Dylan' (acoustic folk music)- and, the two following- 'Highway 61 Revisited' and 'Blonde on Blonde' (electric rock n’ roll.) And, I must confess, 'Bringing It All Back Home' also gets lost amidst my go-to Dylan music (including later works like 'Blood on the Tracks.') But intentionally so. For one thing, Dylan comes across as if his lyrical output has temporarily overcome his performance energy. He thankfully got it back on the next LP, but this one sounds to me like a winded Dylan. How does one supply the energetic passion to share such an extraordinary amount of lyrics, with little instrumental breaks to catch a breath? And I’m not even talking about the interpretation of songs like ‘Subterranean Homesick Blues’ and ‘Gates of Eden’ and ‘It’s Allright Ma, I’m Only Bleedng,’ but just the utter volume of it's sung words. Once one does get around to deciphering Dylan on this particular LP, with its shift from social justice issues to surrealism (a relatively new feature for Dylan in 1965), there are many more questions raised than answered: Who is Maggie, or Mr. Tambourine Man, or Baby Blue? What exactly are the Gates of Eden, not to mention their function, and where may they be located? What is a magic swirling ship: a boat, a plane, LSD in a toilet bowl? What precipitated Dylan’s love to the realization that she ‘knows there’s no success in failure, and that failure’s no success at all’? What does that even mean? Dylan’s reference to the conquest of America on ‘Bob Dylan’s 115th Dream’ doesn’t seem to be intended in an exclusively historical way, so what is its relevance to 1965? What is its relevance now? He suggests on the opening song, ‘You don’t need a weatherman to know which way the wind blows,’ but that’s surely more than an observation of a purely meteorological event. The whole LP had the feel of Dylan struggling to sustain the energy to endure the performance of these wordy songs- both physically and emotionally. And consider the interesting order in which they are even placed on the album: side one introduces the listener to an assembled band of plugged in rock n’ rollers, while side two is solo, unplugged acoustic Dylan. The strategy is completely backwards. Wouldn’t it make more sense to begin with the familiar acoustic before gradually easing your audience into the ‘new’ electric sound? But the album is entitled, 'Bringing It All Back Home,' so maybe it’s format is purposefully designed to befuddle, with Dylan, all the while, maintaining a purposefully restrained grin. Yet another mystery from the final verse on the final song, after which the listener is left in silence to ponder: ‘Leave your stepping stones behind, something calls for you. Forget the dead you’ve left, they will not follow you. The vagabond who’s rapping at your door is standing in the clothes that you once wore. Strike another match, go start anew. And it’s all over now, Baby Blue.’ Is Dylan talking to himself, to us, to the folk music community, to the 60’s counter culture, to the American establishment… to a freezing infant?

Bringing It All Back Home is front-loaded with its best songs and finds Dylan in an uncharacteristically rollicking mood. Also uncharacteristically, he doesn't seem to have much to say. The album degrades as songs get both longer and less complex, ultimately becoming a bit tedious. I'd rather just listen to Muddy Waters.

The quick tempos and rock sounds in the first half had me thinking this would be my favorite Dylan album thus far (and it still might be), but it drags on and on in the second half.

Day 1: This is the first album of this challenge, I've listened to a few of Bob Dylan's songs before but this is the first full album of his I've listen to I'm surprised I enjoyed it as much as I did. I feel like I didn't connect with the Album as much as others due to there being an almost 70 year gap, but I loved how every song was basically a Story. Favourite Song: Subterranean Homesick Blues

The best Dylan album I’ve heard so far, but that’s not many at all. A couple of decent tracks and not the obvious ones.

I hate this guy.

No tan aburrido como otros de Dylan

Compared to other works of his, this was rather disappointing. The songs all sounded very very similar, also the same, basic background music and always the rather same singing. In the end not bad but for such a highly rated artist it was disappointing

Pretty good

Knew more tracks than I thought I would. Never been a big Dylan fan, can't get past the lack of melody having been raised on McCartney. Not terrible though

Classic Dylan sound. Sometimes it was distracting and sometimes I was lost in the song. 3/5

Starting to appreciate more the good vibes that Bob Dylan brings. Haven't heard this album before Enjoying.

Good 👍

Another quite enjoyable Bob Dylan album. It appears that he and I may have got off to a shaky start. This includes some well known classics and is fairly strong throughout, although I preferred the more plugged in Side A to the more folky Side B. 3.5/5.

I’ve never been a big Dylan fan. Maybe it’s the fact that I’m a speech-language pathologist and I always hated hearing a grown ass man mumble incoherently. Anywho, I thought this was pretty decent. His vocals were good and I loved the guitar. I’d play this on a road trip up the Cali coast.

Great opener. Dylan's voice is off-putting, but we all know that going in. Some of the blues numbers seemed a bit aimless. Didn't really massively stand out for me. Obviously this album is the home of Mr Tamborine Man but I don't think his version is particularly any better than the Byrds. Maybe I'll have to return to this in the summer.

I liked this less than the other Dylan albums we’ve come across so far.

Songs too long as per usual Bob Dylan, but inoffensive enough listening.

“A long and whining road.”

Great tales are told via simple guitar and Dylanesque word singing

The fun stuff is pretty enjoyable. The rest of it is repetitive filler drivel. Kudos if he can remember the lyrics to a couple of those songs

Definitely quality and fun song writing. Not my style of music though

As with the Stones, don't think I've ever sat down and listened to a Dylan album. Was expecting to hate it, dutifully sat down, put it on and realised I knew a lot of it anyway and it was not half bad, again hard to assess the impact it would have had on release

Dylan is more poet than musician. His lyrics may be deep, but his music more often than not is shallow. There are some good tracks on here, especially in the album's first half. But nothing really stands out or touches me. Also, I'm still not a fan of Dylan's voice. 3/5.

so thats what radiohead named their song after. except their song was better. honestly i liked this better than blonde on blonde but not by much. its all over now baby blue is one of my favorite songs but marianne faithfull and van morrison sang it better

I guess this is peak Dylan. I like the flow of the album, going from the electric first half to the acoustic second half. It brings a shift in energy and focus, like it's going from the whole world to just one man. It is also a bit of an acquired taste. Do you like the nasally singing man doing version of the blues then the nasally man playing his guitar and occasionally tooting his harmonica? Dylan big strength is as a lyricist so appreciation of this album has to be taken through a "lyrics first" lens.

was aight, usual bob I guess

Why is every fart of Dylan in this list? ;) It´s basically more of the same to me. Not saying it´s bad, but still....

Still no fan of Dylan's singing, but at least this album did not irritate me as much as some of his other (later) work we have been treated with on this list.

Some classics, some nasal caterwauling, overall ok - which is my typical impression of Bob Dylan

Some great tracks, unexpectedly nice.

tambourine man and subterranean homesick blues

Kinda liked this more than I expected. A lot sounds similar. He has a shit load of music on spotify.

What I expected from Bob Dylan

11/12/21 - Bob Dylan was the first white boy rapper.

Still a corker

Another artist I haven’t spent a lot of time listening to outside of their popular work. I liked it, an insight into music from its time, I can see how Dylan is attributed with influencing so many artists of the late 60’s and early 70’s

I thought adding more instruments would improve Freewheelin', but I found myself missing the stripped-bare, disguised anger from his 1963 album. Still, very good album.

Thought it was good just all sounded like the blues to me so not exactly my taste but still thought the sound was cool.

collection of intelligent folk/blues tunes. poetic lyrics, social commentary and human condition description. classic unique dylan sound here. nice harmonica. it's alright ma, subteranean homesick blues, maggie's farm

Dylan fan ...one or two great tracks...she belongs to me, she.. not enough for me tho...so being mean with 3.7

I know Bob is known for his lyrical prowess, but as a not very lyrical forward person, this was only fine. His musicality does not bring the album forward enough for me.

Classic

Just not a huge Bob Dylan fan

Too much folkiness

I grew up hearing Dylan’s Nashville Skyline, but never explored his music beyond that. Didn’t know about this album, pretty sure my ears are Dylan-deficient, so glad to check it out. After the first seconds of “Subterranean Homesick Blues” it is clear this belongs on the list. Should have listened to this a long time ago. “She Belongs To Me” is an example of the smoother Dylan voice and a truly beautiful song. “Maggie’s Farm” swings a bit. I enjoyed it less than the softer song before it. But “Love Minus Zero/No Limit” goes back to that softer sound that I definitely prefer. “On The Road Again” surprised me with its witty lyrics. And the fun continues with “Bob Dylan’s 115th Dream”. Crazy dream story with rocking music. Of course I’ve heard Dylan’s “Mr. Tambourine Man” before. This sparse version contrasts with the lush cover by The Byrds, and while I’d likely always think of the latter first the original really focuses you on the poetry of the song. “The Gates of Eden” and “It’s Alright Ma (I’m Only Bleeding)” read like poetry. Nice ending with “It’s All Ober Now, Baby Blue”. Still not sure how big of a Dylan fan I am, but the importance of this album is irrefutable. Glad to have listened to this.

Nice sound for Bob Dylan. I like the melodies and tone but not super into the drawn-out storytelling. Would have to listen a few more times to get into the lyrics.

Pretty tite, dylan's voice kinda grates on me after a short while

Bob being Bob.

Feel like I should have listened to this by now as I already knew every other track. Overall a good solid folk effort from the man.

She Belongs To Me: Che palle apparte l'armonica me sta a piacè...

The first song is a banger already xD

Very good listening album. 7/10. Nothing stood out as an absolute great song.

decent folk album, typical Bob Dylan. I am not a huge fan, but appreciate his impact for the era.

I tend to prefer Dylan's music covered by other artists, but this album is really great.

Subterranean Homesick Blues is notable

First half is decent, second half drags a bit. Best track: Subterranean Homesick Blues

I'm sort of split on this one. The gritty start of the album surprised me a bit, before it turned to the mellower songs more in the style of his famous hits that I know Bob Dylan from. I liked some of these mellower ones a lot better, but others were just a bit boring and went on for a little too long. The songs I liked best were Mr. Tambourine Man, 115th Dream (although I strongly disliked the beginning) and Love Minus Zero.

3/5 why can't I get dylan? :(

Decent album. Some really good songs on there, some more generic stuff. Will happily listen again.

I've never been a huge fan of Dylan. He's got a few songs that I like but from this I could only see myself listening to Subterranean Homesick Blues and Mr. Tambourine Man. Very alright otherwise - nothing to write home about.

I’m a fan of Bob Dylan’s hits but less so on his deeper tracks. It takes me a while to appreciate the music in the lyrics I think - maybe someday this could get to a 4 for me. Not likely to listen again soon. Of course Mr Tambourine Man is magical

I'm glad Bob Dylan was on here because I've never really listened to him and I know he's kind of a big deal. Took me a while to get into it but once I did some of the lyrics really struck me.

More BD

Bob Dylan en todo su esplendor. Voz, letras y guitarra.

"She's a brown skin woman - but I love her just the same" Sorry Bob you're CANCELLED. I like Bob Dylan but I thought most of these songs were pretty average.

More high school nostalgia. I wonder what it would have been like to experience this as “current” music though. Weird to hear some of these alternate versions to the ones I know. Not sure which first

I'm a fan, but this album is not one of my favorites

pretty good

Just good ol' Bob. You get exactly what you paid for. Solid.

I’m not a huge fan of Dylan’s voice, but I found that the entire album is super cohesive and I think I appreciate him a lot more than I previously did.

Definitely not my favorite Dylan. If you put it on in my car on a road trip, I'd allow it, but I'd silently wonder why you picked this album.

Bob is not one of those artists that I listen to very frequently but that I quite enjoy when I do x2

Fav Song: Maggie's Farm

not my cup of tea - most songs a 1-2. Elevated to 3 because I do like Mr. Tambourine Man

Bob Dylan probably just isnt my thing. I might enjoy it more if I try focusing on/reading the lyrics as I listen.

Started well. First song was very good. After that though it really declines - every song feels the same and it all is just really unispiring and unenjoyable. It becomes really annoying and difficult to listen to. Standout songs are saving it from being tragic. Second half improves so much on the first half although which saves it a bit.

I realized as I listened to this album - as I have likely realized several other times during this process - that I'm really terrible at listening to lyrics, except perhaps as an adjunct means of conveying whatever meaning the music imparts. And, as with Dylan, where the music is nearly entirely extraneous to the lyrics, I struggle in my appreciation of the artist. And this album didn't change that.

Not as bad as I thought it would be. Not good though.

Idk just more Bob Dylan. Do we really need this many Bob Dylan albums?

Don't really like his voice sry

I kind of hate Bob Dylan. soooo whiny

Fun album, it’s not my usual taste and his voice sounded weird to me at first but I got used to it. I can’t see myself going back to this tho.

i mean, i think i get it? but it’s safe to say Bob is not for my ears. call me uncultured, but this was a tough listen from pretty much start to finish :))):))

Probably not best listening to this 7am when you’re already half sleeping, almost put me back to sleep

Typical Bob Dylan.. I grateful for his influence in music history, but this album struggles to keep my attention.

Really enjoyed love minus zero. Others were fine, not exactly my kind of music vibe

He’s culturally significant, and mimicked, but not really my thing.

não é meu estilo

Bob Dylan speedrun?? Makes sense that this is the first in his Electric Trilogy. I’m not really feeling this album’s sound a second time around, and it’s a shame that the album cover is so good. Songs like Garden of Eden and It’s Alright, Ma have that “spoken poetry” songwriting I don’t like. The verses and simple musical sections get repetitive, especially with a 46 min runtime. I’m glad Highway 61 clicked for me, I found it more musically varied (2.5).

I don’t find his voice particularly captivating and I’m sure that’s controversial. I liked bits of the second half, listened on vinyl. ‘Mr. Tambourine Man’ and the closing track ‘It’s All Over Now, Baby Blue’ were nice.

Bob Dylan isn't for me. Kind of like Neil Young, I know a lot of people like him and I just don't see why.

Enjoyed a few. But also can only listen to him for a little bit before the harmonica annoys me. Sorry xx

Oscillates between a song I really enjoy and infuriating pretentious dreck

- Boycotting this misogynist Zio domestic abuser. - This isn't one of his albums that do it for me - way too honkey tonk, also his voice is really grating on this album in a way it isn't on other ones... even more nasal than usual. - Instrumentation wise, it's pretty standard Dylan fare - harmonica and guitar strumming/noodling. - I liked the folkier songs... She Belongs to Me, Love Minus Zero, Mr. Tambourine Man (though, I really prefer the Byrds version)

The band was a slightly redeeming factor. Too much harmonic. Too much 60s.

Like always, I hear a few songs I like and think maybe I was too harsh on him. Then, then album keeps dragging on forever Favorite Songs: Subterranean Homesick Blue, Maggie's Farm

Again - not my jam

No me gusto

60’s Folk

Too many Dylan records on this list

I am not extremely familiar with Bob Dylan's music, though I know many songs by their merit of being famous. I thought that would be enough for me to recognize his voice, but I really didn't for most of the album. I listen to parts of tracks from other albums to compare, and it seems like his voice does change slightly depending on the style or the album. Seeing "don't think twice it's all right" reminded me that someone once told me he was well known for being a virtuosic songwriter, but not the best singer. As for this album, tambourine man is surely the best song, and I think that's when his voice sounds the nicest. I liked the upright bass and the rest of the instrumentation on "She Belongs to Me," and "Love Minus Zero" was sweet as well. I thought the phrasing was kind of interesting and complemented the guitar well on "It's alright, Ma," but then the song just drags on and on, and that's something that can be said for a few few of these tracks. The rock 'n' roll tracks really did not interest me, and the cadence and tambre of his singing were especially grading on those tracks. I think he sounds the best when he's singing more intimately on the heartfelt tracks than his nasally rambling on some of the others

Sorry Bob, I don't get the hype

Chill typ

#385 / 1089 Heard before? ❌ / ✅ few songs Revisit? ❌ Going electric is not, especially from todays perspective, a big thing. I know the folk crowd hated it, but fuck those guys particularly. I just can't stand Bob's style, with or without electricity. I think I actually only like just few of his songs and they're all better when someone else is performing them. I almost didn't get through "Subterranean Homesick Blues", but powered on through most of the album. Not the worst Dylan I've heard, bumps it to 2/5

Tambourine Man" que achei a letra e significados pesados e emocionantes, e "It's All Over Now, Baby Blue" por ser a última música e gostar da vibe.

really? that harmonica will hunt me in my dreams i just really don‘t like his music

Expectation: -> 1965 Bob Dylan. Can't imagine a more likely 1 rating but let's see. After listening: -> The first song surprised me and had me hopeful. Then the rest sounded like Bob Dylan. So many of these songs had the same formula with similar riffs, poetic lyrics, little vocal range, and little bursts of harmonica. Just not for me. Track ranking: Subterranean Zero Tambourine Road She Maggie's Baby Blue Eden Dream Blues Ma

somewhere between a 1-2. He's such a bad singer I have a real hard time listening to him. His songs make for great covers though so that's why I went 2.

Not my thing

Not my favorite Dylan album. Favorite songs: It's All Over Now, Baby Blue

Except for the nonsensical lyrics, the sound of his voice, and the musical style, I'm indifferent to this.

I only think of funny reviews on albums I hate: - If you look up “human harmonica,” you’ll see a picture of Bob Dylan. - Reminded me to make an ENT appointment. - I’m starting a petition: swap Dylan albums for Maroon 5. Who's with me!

Sorry. Although I do enjoy Mr. Tambourine Man's Mr. Tambourine Man-ness.

Subterranean homesick blues - 2/5 She belongs to me - 2/5 Maggies farm - 3/5 Love minus zero - 4/5 Outlaw blues - 3/5 On the road again - 2/5 Bob dylans 115th dream - 2/5 Mr tambourine man - 4/5 Gates of eden - 1/5 Its alright ma - 1/5 Its all over now, baby blue -2/5

I don’t like Bob’s voice. That being said, I listened longer that I thought I would, and hated it less than I thought I would.

Idk, Bob Dylan is just not for me. This was fine, but I can't stand his voice. 2*

not my usual kind of music at all but still enjoyed a few songs.

i know its good, but not for me

Too repetitive imo, but good to hear the kinda rock version of Bob Dylan

Voice is too whiny for me

i dont really get a lot of what he says

album #25 bob dylan is a good writer and musician, but i simply do not vibe with a lot of this album. happy he wrote mr. tambourine man, though, so that the byrds could eventually cover it <3 ꩜ average track rating: 2.4/5 ꩜ favourite track(s): subterranean homesick blues, it's all over now baby blue ꩜ least favourite track(s): maggie's farm, outlaw blues ꩜ album rating: ★★☆☆☆ ꩜ number of albums left to review: 1,064 ꩜ number of albums from the list that i agree with being on the list: 12 (+1 Bringing It All Back Home) ꩜ albums from the list that I would consider on my list: 4 ꩜ albums from the list I won't include on my list: 21

I went to review what my ratings were for other Dylan albums. I was surprised to see I rated him no one’s. Only twos. I guess Dylan is consistent at least.

not really my genre but such an insane musician my favourite song was love minus zero

I don`t mind it that much

Bob Dylan stinks

Always been kind of fascinated with the Dylan obsession. The voice and songs are kind of annoying to me.

Rambling song written isn’t really my thing. Nothing grand to take away from the album.

First half has charm: 'She Belongs to Me' and the opener are playful, structured, listenable. But then 'Mr. Tambourine Man' arrives and Dylan doubles down on what I hate about him — overlong rambling with no real melody, just poetic word-salad masquerading as profundity. 'The Gates of Eden' continues the torture. Half a decent album dragged down by the other half. If only he'd stopped before the mystical nonsense kicked in.
