Alright
Took your music off Spotify in protest of Joe Rogan? Really?? This album isn't as good as everyone says it is regardless of that unfortunate anti free speech factoid.
This was nice, her voice is lovely. It's not really my kind of music so I wouldn't listen to it again but I'm glad it came up. Highlights: California River A Case of You
I only knew of this particular JM album through Maynard James Keenan. Really liked JM’s vocals. Album has a good, folk artist vibe to it.
very clean
it was good, not personally for me, but still good 3.4/5
It's not on Spotify.
Finns inte på Spotify får kolla SoundCloud sen. PS orkar inte just nu
Beautiful, excellent display of talent, but it takes a specific type of person to listen to this more than once.
Not really my style
Not terrible. Folk music can sometimes be a bit much, but Joni Mitchell does a good job of threading the needle.
Leider nur ein Song auf Spotify von diesem Album aber dieser gefällt.
I lived with my mom when I was in Middle School after she broke free from my dad. Turns out she was a total bra-burning, free-love hippy. Good mom, but not so great role model. This album was heavy in the rotation at our little apartment, and I didn’t know much better, so I enjoyed it. Still do I guess, in moderation. Man, those were weird times.
Only one song
Enjoyed. Sure it would grow on me with further listens.
Sad
A beautiful voice, great lyrics, some truly timeless songs - why don't I like this more?
The absolute softest 3. It's probably more of a 2 for me personally, but it's artistic accomplishment is pretty undeniable so a 3 seems more correct. Plus river is very good.
A new listen for me, I thought I had heard lots of songs from her before but I didn’t recognize any of them on this album. Usually a big name artist has some new fun tracks to enjoy, but it didn’t grab me the way I was expecting.
It was enjoyable, but didn't seem a lot to it. I feel like it might have grown on me more, but it was difficult to find and listen to unfortunately.
It was solid, a nice change of pace from the last two picks, but I enjoyed it. I wish it was on Spotify lol
Thoughts before listening: Joni Mitchell is an artist that I respect immensely, even owning a few of her records, but I just can't get into her music. I think her voice is to "warbly" for me or something. Blue is one of the albums I own, and it certainly is one of the more approachable in her catalog. Review: This has some songs I really do enjoy like "All I Want", "California", "Carey", "River", and "A Case of You". Those would all be getting added to the playlist if Joni's albums were on Spotify. For the other songs I just cant get into it. I recognize that the lyrics are confessional and have a ton of meeting for Joni's fans, but I just can't get past the vocals and rambling song structures. This is a 3-star album to me.
Beautiful songs, shame full album not on Spotify.

I had a college professor have us do a close reading of this album, nice to revisit it I like it
Depresso
Liked it a lot. Just can’t really do her high pitch vocals when she gets there
I have no idea why this album should be so important, it just didn't convince me.
Not my style of music but Joni’s so talented and her voice is so damn beautiful, anything less than a 3 star just feels wrong.
Couldn’t listen due to blocked on spotify
Not my thing
This album isn't available on Spotify by Joni, but another artist covers it. So far the storytelling and cadence and seem like Joni, I wish it was her voice.
"Love Actually" ruined this singer for me ;P
Of course a classic. I have heard many of the tracks but never listened to full album. Joni + guitar or piano. Distinct vocal. Lyrical storytelling. Candidly - listening to the tracks individually is better than all in a row.
Nicht sehr originell - hört sich an wie Rocky Lee Jones
Hard for me to quantify, really. Something I've been able to appreciate from a distance but never quite get. After some time, it actually was coming up so often on my Apple playlists I had to delete it from my library. Something about the warbling in head voice, and the sort of too-interconnected piano chord textures. It's so insular.
An amazing singer and lyricist but this album was just ok for me.
It's not bad, maybe i just wasn't in the mood for it.
It has some good moments like Carey, but it doesn't really speak to me.
Probably my favorite album by Joni Mitchell. Still not my thing.
Very nice voice
Can’t even listen to this album on Spotify! At least she was kind enough to upload the album in full on YouTube.
Unable to listen on spotify at all
not a fan
Album Nr. 4. Lässt sich anhören. Ist mir aber etwas zu chillig. Mir fehlt hier etwas Kraft und Power.
she has a lot of fun with her voice soothing background music with interesting vocal performance wont revisit tho
Folky woman singing. Some are upbeat some are sad. She has a nice voice. Gives older music vibes. Spotify didn’t have this album so we listened to a selection of what was available. 2/3***
Meh, I know it’s classic yada yada, but I have never been able to get into Joni Mitchell at all. So I can’t rate it badly because it is supposed to be such a Huge Important Album. But, it’s just not for me at all.
I wasn't a fan of her voice at first but it kind of grew on me. - 3.5/5
Felt kind of tranquil listening to this one. Some songs I liked were Blue, Carey, and California. I liked how simple some of the songs were, like just vocals and a piano. Overall though it wasn't my thing, don't know if I would listen to the cover to cover again.
bummed its not on Spotify. how poetic that we just watched love actually and the lady got this album from her adultry committing piece of shit husband and now we are listening to it. ily Joni edited: ok I didn't like this album that much I think Joni Mitchell is cool and I like her music but the cadence doesn't really work for me.
5/10 - Ben Platt made a cover of River that I think is better but overall an ok album.
Dope voice and some great lyrics but her flow is kinda ass and I really did not enjoy listening to the songs. 4/10
6/10
Am I the only person on earth who doesn't like Joni Mitchell? She and Morrissey should do an album together since they both sound like children making up melodies as they go along.
Prententious not being on Spotify
Chill Album
Un album qui parle des relations. Belle voix douce qui vient chercher les émotions.
Didn't listen, it's not on Spotify because Joni hates Joe Rogan. I'll have to download it somewhere in the future.
Was very pretty, preferred her other one though
very joni mitchell of her
Good music, nice melodies. I can't listen to that voice for too long
Not sure on this one
I wish I could deal with her vocal style, but it's not for me. I was charmed by a lot of the very 1971 lyrical choices, and the music sounded good, but I was ultimately waiting for the album to end.
ну не мой явно подход к мелодике
Beautiful songs that set the standard. My only issue is the tone of her voice at higher ranges doesn't sound good to me.
I know this album is very popular but to me it was a bit too free flowing musically and her distinctive, yet often very high voice was a bit annoying. It was a good listen as a background music but I wouldn't give it anything near a 5.
Was nice background music
I get that it's good, but I don't think I like listening to it.
Another one I haven’t heard. Album from the 70s and genre defined as “singer/songwriter” on Apple Music. Quite pleasant - what it says on the tin really. Vocal/lyric driven songs with a sad tinge. Going with 3/5. Pleasant and not bad but definitely wouldn’t add to my library.
Joni joni, great lyrics.
I've tried to love this a few times over the years because many of my friends with good taste rate it highly, but it's just too folky and earnest for me. Maybe it reminds me too much of the worst aspects of my childhood.
Initially liked her voice and interesting melodies, but as the album wore on, it became tiring and all over the place. Unique, and glad I gave it a listen, but wasn't for me.
I liked little green and the album gave a nostalgic feel
3/5 Dobry album, złożony głównie z akustycznych ballad, żeński Dylan ładnie śpiewa, w przeciwieństwie do wokalisty the clash wyraźnie. Miałem wrażenie, że słuchałem Lucky Mana autorstwa ELP przez 30 minut ale moog sie zaciął a greg ujebał se dżądra. Rock progresywny lepszy
Songwriting not for me but great voice.
Moeite om er in te komen maar vond de teksten interessant.
i expected to like it more but i think it's not really my type of music. I don't personally enjoy the flowing spoken word style lyrics but i can appreciate it. River was my favourite song in the album
Smooth chill and relaxing. Lyrics occasionally lack structure but flow of neverending sentences can entrance
I did not enjoy this but it was good
Dobra je Joni, al nemogu je slušat više od 4 pjesme zaredom.
Beautiful melodies. Nice and tasteful acoustic instrumentation that goes with it. Can't say much about the lyrics because I was busy working. It sounds like someone reading from a book and signing every sentence they see as they want. Guess that's the singer-songwriter vibe, but sometimes it feels too disperse, and it's hard to make sense of a song.
I liked this better than potter sounds. A lot of the songs seemed to blend together but her voice is really unique!
Not all on Spotify
Love the tone of her voice and the instrumentation. My favourites are the guitar and vocal tracks. The guitar is recorded really nicely with a natural stereo spread but Joni's voice seems off to the left in those tracks which was a bit jarring. It sounded good but was too words for me and lacked focus - too easy to become background music.
not on Spotify
All the songs sound the same to me. If you like folk music with a touch of soft rock, this is likely your jam.
Despite the sexist NPR commentary starting this was the best album ever made by a woman ( obviously they are hinting it isn't comparable to something made by a man ), I found it to be enjoyable. Joni Mitchell is incredibly talented.
I can't get used to the cadence.
Well, unfortunately, only “A Case of You” was available on Spotify so I wasn’t able to listen to this album. But Joni Mitchell’s voice is lovely and the song is lyrically beautiful. I found the whole album on YouTube. Weird to me that it is available but not Spotify. I guess she’s monetizing by playing commercials that you must dismiss after *every* song. Once I got to listen to it, it turned out to be a really good folk album. I think Joni Mitchell is a better songwriter than singer, but the album really doesn’t have any bad songs.
Very erratic singing style, doesn't seem like something nice to listen to while stressed or anxious. Suddenly goes into very high tones randomly, does not sound like something she does without effort. Regular singing voice is decent but you never know when she's gonna go into the higher tones, unexpectedly. Her music incorporates a lot of nice piano sounds. Her higher tones sound better when they seem more predictable, such as in the song Blue, it's more deliberate, unlike the song Carey which is all over the place. Standout song: California, "will even kiss a Sunset Pig" Piano and acoustic guitar are played so fast and hard, sounds kind of erratic.
ça me fait pensé a joan baez
Couldn't listen to the whole album as only one song was available, but if that is anything to go on, it will be worthwhile getting the album.
Some songs cute, good morning vibe, but overall didnt find it that interesting. Vocals good tho
Soulful, boring, whiney, ground-breaking...insert whatever adjective you want here and it will be Joni Mitchell sounding like Joni Mitchell. This is not a bad album. It's just the same album.
fav: last time i saw richard
Looks like a fairly short album. Not a bad thing though.
Good album but I wouldn't advise listening to it if feeling low or in a bad mood.
I'm unable to listen to this album without upgrading to Spotify Premium. I have the tracks \"Carey\", \"Cailfornia\", and \"River\" on a greatest hits album, and of these three I really like \"Carey\".
Loved blue, river and last time I saw richard
3 stars
som calminho, bonito
I like the vibe of the album. Scaled back instrumentation with mostly just acoustic guitar and piano and interesting vocal melodies, but none of the songs really captured my interest.
(As of right now, not availible in the UK)
Was fairly samey but still enjoyable.
Never listen to Joni Mitchell aparantly it is one of the greatest album of all times. The songs are really beutifull and her voice is wonderfull But folk isn't my kind and i'm not so much attracted by this kind of melancolic and sad music, altough its technicaly very good.
I'm not sure if I like it or not
Unpopular to say, but Joni Mitchell’s “Blue” is a good folk record with some fantastic songs on it, but I’d be lying if I said it truly captivated me as an album experience.
I can appreciate the artistry with this one, but a lot of it just didn't stick with me. All the little high pitched fluctuations in her voice and a few overly arythmic sections ended up being distracting to me. I could very much feel the emotions being conveyed, which takes a lot of talent, and a few of the tracks were able to suck me in and keep me engaged.
Very nice. 3.5 stars
I am still not convinced
I'm not a fan of Joni, but this is the album I can nearly enjoy.
Good album, not something I normally enjoy, but I liked Mitchell’s singing and prose
Finally got to tackle this one, having been readded to Spotify! Liked the southern twang in 'California'. Some of the songs ran together/lacked a distinct sound. Overall would not mind listening to this again but will probably not actively seek it out. 3/5
Folk setentero. Cantautora. Ni fu ni fa.
I own this in CD (not on Spotify) and really want to like it but I can't get past JMs vocal delivery which really grind my gears. That's all really. 3
Overrated I’m afraid
This was a good folk album, Joni has excellent vocal range, great singing talent. River, and A Case of You were the highlights on this album. Overall a good listen
The albums is brimming with wonderful moments lyrically and musically. My Old Man a romantic ode to a lost love. She sings "he's my sunshine in the morning, he's my fireworks at night" and conjures up the joy of early romance beautifully. On "This Flight Tonight" there is a break out at around two minutes where the songs changes pace for a quick "wig out", and I love this small moment. The "River" is a personal highlight, her voice a little quieter, gentle piano nothing more, tells the devastation of a relationship that is faltering, where one party needs to escape but there is regret hanging in the air. Personally, I find Joni's voice in the higher ranges a little too much, and over the course of the whole album, irritating. It's a personal thing, I won't deny the quality of the song writing and the devastating beauty she conveys, but music is about pleasure for the listener.
This is a record you listen to alone. This is a cryin' record. Deeply personal, and about as sad as you can get.
Her voice is annoying as fuck but some of the later songs are ok
Nice Album

I've always loved River. A Case of You was pretty great as well. Her voice still doesn't do it for me.
There are some bangers on here
This is the best Joni Mitchell album we've had so far (think this is our third?). That said, it's still not really for me, I'm not a huge fan of the wobbliness in her voice, and it's a bit too samey throughout. 3/5.
Previously rated The Hissing Of Summer Lawns as 3* and always liked that album more than Blue due to the over-the-top way of singing on Blue. It is highly annoying, only partially compensated by the quality of the songs (which become better when played more often). 5/10 = 3 *
It's Joni Mitchell, so I struggle to score more than 3. Can understand why it's in the list, just not my thing.
The trouble I have with Joni is that all songs tend to sound too similar. So a 4 gets knocked back to a 3.
Good folk music. Can see how it influences later artists
Listened Before? N Okay this one was better than the other one (or two) I've heard on this list... but to consistently rank it as one of the top 2 female recorded albums of all time (publications keep doing this) is a nostalgic view. I don't think it cracks my personal top 5. She is definitely transparent and skillful in her lyrics (and California is an absolute BANGER) but her voice becomes SO monotonous after a while I just can't see it being the greatest ever. I'll give it another listen but I'm leaning toward 3/5 on this one. Added to Library? N Songs added to playlist: California
Weird aunt poetry
Listened to this 2-1/2 times and it’s just not for me. Singer songwriters are hit and miss for me, and Joni seems to be a miss. Bummer since so many musicians and people whose musical opinions I respect really love this album. I’ll come back for a few more tries, but for now, this is underwhelming. 1 - bad 2 - average 3 - good 4 - great 5 - outstanding
A good, mellow, slightly… blue album. Good, but I gotta be in the mood…
Soft, but nice. 3/5
I'm getting closer and closer to becoming a Joni Mitchell fan. These songs are constantly surprising to me and I thought a Joni Mitchell album would be a pretty dour affair. I can't say I've got standouts here, but damned if this album isn't actually fun. Which is weird to say? 3 surprising stars.
RIver is a brilliant song....
Fav Tracks: Carey, California
Well this is the most I’ve ever liked Joni Mitchell I still think the way she sings and over complicates melodies detracts from the songs, but the songs and lyrics are often quite remarkable. Still not sure I’ll ever be a Joni fan but I did like this, whereas I’ve given some of her other albums one star reviews
I liked Carey and Little Green
It's easy to hear the influence this album had on music as a whole afterwords. Rock influences seep in here and there, along with Blues. Not a fan of the album, but undeniable that it's extremely influential
Buena voz para un disco del que solo es accesible una única canción. No puedo evaluarla más
It was alright
3/5
This isn't my usual taste in music, but it has to be considered a classic of its genre. You can feel some of the influence here, particularly with regard to Bob Dylan. Fav track: River Least fav track: This Flight Tonight
Tyckte tyvärr det här var rätt tråkigt. Vissa låtar gillar jag dock
Hon har en rätt jävla jobbig röst, men kan inte gå lägre än en 3:a.
I can't respect her anymore since she hopped on the Spotify censorship bandwagon with Neil Young. It baffles me, it truly does. Today liberals dominate all forms of media. Skepticism and dissenting opinions are not tolerated in mainstream discourse. In 2021, if you questioned the vaccine you were met with social outcry, bans from the internet, and you could even be doxxed or fired from your job. Today, it's obvious that the vaccine actually does hurt some people, and that it doesn't even prevent COVID in many cases. Joe Rogan is literally the most chill, moderate, open-minded celebrity out there; he has had people from all walks of life and with all sorts of political views on his show. The fact that the entire internet tried to have him silenced is really telling of how stupidly insane the modern world is. I still hold many liberal beliefs, but it's terrifying how authoritarian and vengeful leftists are in these times. Anyways, I'm not rating this album based on her as a person. It's a very pleasant and soothing album. She has great vocal control. Although I didn't find the album extremely interesting a lot of the time; I wish there were more dynamics in her music, more variation.
God knows she's great but her voice is so hard...
Kolme tähteä hankala käsittäää
This album is not bad, just not my cup of tea. Joni Mitchell's voice is too grating for my taste, and the album itself doesn't feel all that outstanding. If you're into depressing ballads by high-pitched women you'll enjoy this.
Good
I have learnt in the past 560 albums that Joni Mitchell was much better and more interesting than I thought, but that I still wouldn't listen to her music by choice.
Can get a bit whiney after 2 or 3 tracks. A bit twee too 50 years later.
Average
boring and over rated
Carey, Blue, This Flight Tonight are lovely. A bit too samey for most of the album and the melody's are so topsy-turvy that it loses me in some sections where she treats her vocal like a sax playing over the top of some bebop or something
S'écoute bien, mais je suis incertain d'être en amour avec ses fluctuations de voix constantes
Little Green has to be one of the most beautiful, melancholy, and gently hopeful songs I’ve ever heard.
Some songs were good the rest all sounds the same.
Joni Mitchell does Joni Mitchell
Great vocals, not really my vibe
Better than expected considering the company she kept. Had to track it down on YouTube since she, understandably, pulled her albums from Spotify.
Nice folk stuff, really liked some of the guitar work
A bit too raw and confessional. One much prefers Summer Lawns, which is of more interest musically and less painfully vulnerable.
I enjoyed a few cuts but was never a big Joni Mitchell fan.
Good
Decent. 3/5
Me gustó "Carey".
Pretty okay
I can see why it was such a popular album, but it’s not for me. Her lilting style grates on me.
A breeze blows across the porch into a window, passes through a sunny room full of plants and people, swirls through an active kitchen, and out through the back door. Whispering along that wind is Joni Mitchell.
It's like todays pop, too much emphasis on the voice, not enough music.
It was good but I didn’t think it was great. I don’t know if I would listen to it again.
This is the female singer-songwriter album. If you like that you’ll love this
I wanted to like this album as it's pretty celebrated and heralded throughout the music world, but her constant vocal ticks drove me a little crazy: it's low low low first verses then octave jump. Every. Song. It was so predictable. No doubt she has writing chops and some of the stories in the songs were neat and relatable, but her voice is just not my thing. Still a decent album, but I'll likely never spin it again. 3.5/5 but rounding down to 3.
I mean it's ok but I'm not exactly crazy about it. Not a fan of her voice and too folky for my taste.
I obviously recognized a large amount of the songs, She has a beautiful voice and there is no denying it. There is not much negative things I could say, however this style of music isn’t one that I would normally listen to so it’s hard for me to get into it.
I don’t really get it, but I understand why people love Joni Mitchell. She creates pretty music as evidenced with Blue, but I just don’t feel anything from it. I definitely don’t find it unlistenable or bad, but I don’t really want to listen to it again.
I'm sorry mum, I'm sorry dad. Did you 'just have to be there?'. This is a turning point in music apparently. But it's not when you're listening to it 50+ years later and are not present at the time. I'm sure it's of 100% importance, but to someone younger it's just twangy Joni and her grating voice. Sorry again.
A great one.
pretty melancholic
Genre: Contemporary Folk 3/5 An album in which its reputation precedes itself, Joni Mitchell's Blue is what many consider to be her magnum opus, and what others consider to be one of the greatest albums ever made. Entirely self-written and self-produced, Blue is a mostly acoustic journey through Joni's life and times. While most do consider this to be a folk masterpiece, it unfortunately didn't hit my ears in the same way. I sort of see it as the Bob Dylan effect, where these sorts of melodies speak to a more rural, working class upbringing, while coming from a bit more of a privileged perspective, and that dissonance is too overwhelming for me. It renders it inauthentic. Joni Mitchell's voice is quite unique. Part-Joplin, part-Parton, she moans and groans with passion and emotion through most of the cuts here. The sparseness of the arrangements leave her voice as the main highlight, but unfortunately it sounds badly mixed to me, scraping the boundaries of what would almost be described as clipping. It's not a texturally bland album, moving from guitar to piano to bongos as the songs progress, but it's not all very exciting, and gives the album a snail's pace. Honestly, though, the most insulting thing throughout this process is seeing people say that this is the greatest album a woman has ever made. This is certainly not the greatest album a woman has ever made, not in this list and not even considering albums not in this list. No matter how high Rolling Stone rates this, this is a folk album with some pretty solid vocals that does pretty much nothing for me. I respect the grind, but Joni just isn't for me.
Not bad, but not amazing.
Nice voice, but not my style.
eh shes ok i guess
Great voice, but got bored after a while
<3 <3 <3 aldrei hlustað á þessa plötu alla í gegn áður, sem er ótrúlegt.
Pretty good! Not a huge Joni Mitchell fan, but nothing bad to say about the album
Not on Spotify - and yes, clearly very pretty, but she does get a bit wearing
I don't really like this at all, but there was a time when i did.
i only listened to it once while walking around in the woods, it's alright. it's a bit to stripped back and simple for my taste, but i appreciate her voice and lyrics. Probably won't come back to it though.
Great voice
Didn't listen to too much of it but I get the vibe
I only really know one Joni Mitchell song. I like it but never had the urge to dig further. This is some nive folk and I can see how it probably influenced a lot of other artists I like. The airy wavy vocals are impressive but at times a bit too much for me. I thought the start of River was a Jingle bells cover but then it was just a clever catch for a Christmas song. I like folk music and I'm a sucker for female vocalists but this was missing something or maybe had too much of something. Stand out track - Carey 3/5 middle of the road.
Bom.
I can appreciated there's a lot of talent here, but I find all the little vocal flourishes she puts in a touch grating. Possibly it just caught me in an unreceptive mood... Fave track - "California", let's say...
I respect Joni, and don't mind that I had to hunt this album down since it isn't on spotify. There was a recent song exploder that referenced Blue and I've been meaning to check it out. So I really want to love this album. But I don't. I know people love her voice but I just don't. I can appreciate the artistry and boldness and poetry and intimacy of these songs. They aren't formulaic, that's for sure. But maybe a little formula would have helped. There are moments of sublime beauty, both lyrically and sonically, but in the end the songs are like wisps of a cloud, pretty but I can't quite get a grasp on them.
Don't love it, but don't hate it. It's some pleasant, simple single-songwriter tunes, and Joni's vocals really do add a lot. 5/10
Niet uitgebreid kunnen luisteren, maar erg mooi!
Helaas niet kunnen luisteren, maar ken het album goed genoeg om er een oordeel over te geven.
Skon hor!
The voice always grates on me a bit! Tunes are pleasant but a bit boring! Three stars for the songwriting
Cheerful, but not sure I remember much
I like her voice. Would re listen. Not my favorite but ... Solid!
Storytelling alone - great. Voice - not so great. The vibrato was just a little much sometimes and made it hard to follow the melody. The storytelling is something else though. River is the standout.
Drenge her har i mig tilbage
I enjoyed this album well enough; it wasn't something that I think I'd be able to listen to often and I didn't add but the last three songs, but still I could feel the passion in her presentation and knew where her songs were coming from. The thing that kept me from adding the songs and really enjoying them on their own was their structure, or lack there of. Her voice does so much heavy lifting, it's wistful and her style embraces that drama. Favorite songs: River A Case of You The Last Time I Saw Richard
There's definitely some nice songwriting and guitar work on this, and I did enjoy some of the tracks. Just parts of the album as a whole felt a bit bland to me
Hat mir deutlich besser gefallen als befürchtet. Grenzwertig angenehme Stimme, tolle Texte. So wird man gern geweckt!
It’s signature Joni. I don’t love her voice but it’s very incredible.
Alguien que sabía que existía pero que me está descubriendo esta lista de 1001 álbumes. Desde la primera canción este disco suena bien: All I want, Little Green, California y A case of you.
Sure, her voice is beautiful, but what are those songs?
relaxing but kinda annoying at some points. nice voice
I know she's a super talented musical genius and all that, but I find her voice to be shrill and annoying at times. Some songs more so than others. Having said that, there are some beautiful songs on this album, in particular River. 3 stars.
didn't really hit me that hard, still, beautiful.
Better then i expected
Classic
Fine. Pleasant. It's not great background music because she is warbly. Listening to it intently... she does stories, has better lyrics, but the music isn't particularly catchy. Casey is good. And River is super strong, but seems to have the thinnest lyrics (maybe I just don't get it). Was hoping to be blown away.
Interesting and unique
3/5
Fantastic musicianship & writing, but the lyrics are about a lifestyle I can’t relate to & I’m afraid Joni isn’t for me, I’ve just never been a fan.
I really want to love this album, especially since court and spark is amazing, but I just dont. The music on this one dosent feel as creative as some of her other albums, and something about her singing style on this one just rubs me the wrong way. Its still good though. Im giving it a 3 for now, but I suspect that my opinion of it will improve over time.
I can appreciate it but not really my thing. Probably shouldn't have listened while sitting in traffic.
Seems influential but not necessarily for me. I hear Avril Lavigne and Ben Folds.
I was excited to see this generated for me, as I know it's considered to be Joni Mitchell's masterpiece, and I really liked the Hissing of Summer Lawns. However, it failed to grab me, and even after a second listen has left me a little underwhelmed. Compared to 'Hissing' it is less interesting, varied or striking both musically and lyrically. It is a nice and pleasant album, and the vocal is great, but it all seemed a bit samey and not overly interesting, so didn't live up to my high expectations.
Always love Joni
I can appreciate Joni Mitchell but it's not my style. Sounds pretty though.
Tantas vezes o vimos no Terreiro. Sol vibrante. Luto para me recordar do teu calor. Sol cinzento. As mãos já me tremem a jogar às cartas. Quando voltar, compro-te uma máquina para a roupa. os novatos dizem que vem das américas. Então, os dias serão só nossos. MotA: A Case of You "I am on a lonely road and I am traveling, traveling, traveling, traveling"
I really liked A Mighty Wind but never listened to JM. Much to my disappointment there wasn't a single strong character she reminded me of. Perhaps Mitch and Micky, the duo played by Eugene Levy and Catherine O'Hara. Anyhow, this album was fine, and the dulcimer skills are strong, but this album isn't very silly or even funny. :(
A Joni Mitchell 3-in-1 review to catch up… Joni Mitchell sadly doesn’t really do it for me. When her songs are upbeat and fast-paced, they are tolerable, but when they are slow they put me to sleep. The album “Blue” keeps the pace, but has Mitchell too often suddenly and sharply pushing her voice too high. She’s got a great voice actually, but that is not playing to its strengths. “All I Want” and “River” are deserved timeless hits, though. The album “Court and Spark” has less jarring highs, but too slow of a pace.” “Hejira” was the most forgettable of the three. We still have one more Joni to go. We’ll see if “The Hissing of Summer Lawns” grabs me any more.
Joni’s voice is a 5/5 for sure, 10/5? It’s incredible really. Unfortunately the song writing is not getting it done for me. In a weird way, several of the songs rely on Joni’s voice too much. Songs where she’s riffing and there’s really no sense of structure or melody. Again her voice is phenomenal, so I can understand why this approach was taken. I want to rate this album higher for her voice alone, but I need more structure. The two best songs on the album for me were Carey and California.
This isn't for me. I didn't find it obnoxious or anything, like all the lame people influenced by Joni Mitchell, but it left no impression.
Wouldn't go out my way to listen to it again
Why are so many of these "must" hear albums so boring. It's all slow and mellow music. I can appreciate the talent, but its just not something I want to listen to often, or at all.
Definitely a good record, and it gets A LOT of well-deserved praise. I think if I read a little more into the lyrics it'd resonate with me more, but for my general enjoyment through a couple of listens it gets a 3
This album would be at home in s a small coffee house as it settles into the background with its subtle arrangements and lyrics. Despite its tone, the lyrics ache with the sadness of the singer.
Most pleasant listening but Joni's voice never changes
Quite pleasant to listen to, I enjoyed it playing in the background while working. But the songs don't really feel like they're going anywhere and blended together. Wouldn't actively listen to it again, but nice for one time.
I like Joni's voice, but this album is a bit too melancholy for what I'm after today.
Very vibey. Felt like a great bacground music for a chill evening in the bar. Some songs were very good, some where more or less meh. 3/5.
Great summer beach vibes Manly music / Folk with high pitch female voice
All very nice. Glad I saved it to Sunday
Typical Joni Mitchell. Listenable but not overwhelming. ***
Interessante, mas com pouca potência. Lembra muito os vocais da cantoras de MPB dos anos 80 e 90. Provavelmente foi uma influência para o trabalho de voz e violão
Not really my thing with all those warbling vocals even if Joni has an amazing voice.. but I can see why this features in a lot of top 10 albums of all time.
Not really my thing but I can see why people like it.
Never heard it before Had some preconceptions of it being too folksy, but 3 tracks in and i've dropped that The melodies are strong and unexpected Joni's voice is a little bit much at its highest register. Lyrically sharper and more cutting than I was expecting Overall really enjoyed it. Deserves the hype.
Legal, mas gosto de algo mais animado
Folk setentero. Cantautora.
OOH. JONI MITCHELL Ah, this is where the that weird Christmas song is from.
Solidly ok. Favorite Track(s): “A Case of You”
cantautora. Folk. Agradable.
I think I like this more than the other Joni Mitchell album, but it's the same sort of thing: she's clearly got tons of talent, but I just don't like the music.
good
I can appreciate her talent, but she’s not my cup of tea.
It's fine, y'know? Nothing stand out... just... fine.
Chill
A good album but personally not a big fan of her voice or writing style.
Clearly a very talented vocalist. A few good songs, but this just wasn't for me.
One of the most interesting vocal stylings I've ever heard. Like a folksy Mariah Carey. Good songs, but not really for me.
Fine
Mix incroyable, on entend le son alanis morissette
Très bon enregistrement !
Her voice is annoying. But some of the songs are nice.
Very sweet sounding songs with heart and feeling.
Liked this way more than I expected to - rich songwriting and lyrics that drew me in
Not for me but sounds good
Es soll eines der besten Alben sein (generell und von einer Frau). Ich hab jetzt das besondere daran nicht erkannt
Yah it was okay. I don't get the hype, it's not for me I guess. I gave it a 3 over a 2 on account of it being pleasant sounding music, even though it's not my style.
A Case Of You,” James Taylor on acoustic guitar, Russ Kunkel on drums, and Joni Mitchell on Appalachian dulcimer...
Pretty good album. Joni Mitchell can sing, and the simple instrumentation and interesting lyrics make this album work really well. It's not my exact jam, but I enjoyed it well enough to listen to it again at some point. 3 stars.
I like some of her songs. But her voice sometimes gets a bit annoying. Maybe the recordings of that time do her voice not justice ;).
Some good songs, but it drags a fair bit
Not my vibe
I can recognize the uniqueness and artistry involved but I just didn't enjoy listening.
As a Canadian, I guess I’m supposed to have a Joni Mitchell tattoo on my ches, but I’ve always found her voice annoying. The songs don’t suck, though.
Great album except for the composition, the singing, and the lyrics.
2 Songs i liked, which i already had in my collection, form the best of
Found her voice/lyrics annoying on most of the songs
Not the vibe for me this morning. Just super mid.
Today I learned there’s music that sounds fine but also absolutely horrendous when you’re hungover.
Woke up, put this on, nodded off a few times.
Joni album no.4, and I still don’t get on with her song writing style. The one up tempo and accompanied number, The Flight Tonight, was excellent though.
It’s hard to be objective because her voice grates on me. I’ve always heard about this album but refused to listen until now because of that. I mean let’s face it, she sings every song the same way. It feels so repetitive. So very repetitive. And then more repetitive. So I focused on the lyrics, and there are some beauties in there, so I guess that’s the appeal? I can find some appreciation for the lyrics. The River being my favorite. But it’s still not enough to make me ever want to sit through this again.
Long a écouter
I think if I grew up with Mitchell she might hold a similar place to Lenker, but as it stands, I just find her music vaguely grating
Just something about her voice doesn't work for me. And the songwriting seems clunky
