Reviews (page 10 of 14)
Meh…?
Some great vocals and folk softness while singing about some heavy subject matter. I like ‘The bed is too big and the frying pan too wide’. I liked the range of experiences in the songs - she was looking for a good time a lot of the time. Her voice is nice - but I think for me in small doses.
the first song is really slow but I did end up rly liking the album i thought that the lyrics were well written too and it’s def a well prorogued album just not my music taste. If you like slower music you’d probably like this album more
3/5
Fine
It was okay. It's very mellow, very simple. It's not really my thing, but I can appreciate the artistry.
Veer between loving this album, and then absolutely disliking her voice, then back again…. like Gleason and Farrell disagreeing about Bruge I can’t decide…
What do you rate an album that you think is excellent, but when you also think that it’s unlikely that you’ll revisit? This kind of album just isn’t for me, but I do recognize that it is a beautifully written and recorded album. The lyricism, the voice, it’s all there. Except for drums. I crave drums.
Filler
Niet mijn ding, 5/10.
I think I’m just not a Joni Mitchell fan <gasp>
I recognize that Joni Mitchell was hugely inspirational to so many. There would be no Susan Vega, Fiona Apple, Sara Bareilles, or Billie Eillish had it not been for her. This album is well made and beautifully sung with key songs Blue and California. This is a headspace album, though, and I think she was writing for a specific demographic or generation which I don’t fit. No regrets, all respect, but few repeats.
I want to like this so much. But I find it just alright. Listened to this twice in a row and only perked up when I heard California. I want to “get” Joni because it seems like she brings so many people so much joy. I’ll keep trying. I do like “River” as well from my many viewings of Love Actually.
As an album, I liked it a lot. No songs jumped out at me as great though, and I wouldn’t say I /had/ to listen to this before I die
That was my introduction into Joni Mitchell. I actually didn't mind the album but I probably won't be rushing to play it again anytime soon. Incredible voice, just not my taste at all
Just didn't do it for me.
This is probably her best album. It does lack some of the jazzier and more inventive elements of her later albums, but this crop of songs is generally stronger. Key tracks: All I Want River A Case of You
Yeah this was fine. I didn’t love her though.
A classic
Songs are good but the voice is way too high for my ears.
I liked the other Joni Mitchell I had earlier more than this (“Court and Spark”). Much more energy on that record. This was perfectly fine folk. Her songwriting skill, again, are excellent. Her voice is beautiful when it isn’t sometimes grating (and it can be grating, at least to me, on those high notes). She’s an icon for a reason. But I dunno. Felt like a perfectly good 70’s folk album to me. I probably missed something here. Three stars. Standout Tracks: My Old Man, Little Green, California, This Flight Tonight
Pretty good. The songs themselves are fairly strong it's just that I have some issues with her singing voice at times. Far too often her singing style sinks an otherwise good song.
Enjoyable, if a little slow for my personal test. Nice palate cleanser compared to Muse yesterday. Gotta love “River” I don’t imagine this is an album I will be revisiting.
She paved the way for female singer-song writers. and was indeed a very talented lady. and although I wouldn't go out of my way to avoid listening to her. I, equally, wouldn't do the same to listen to her either. she's ok, just not my bag, man. I'm going to take her worth to music in general into account and up grade my score from 2 to 3 as I think it needs to be.
Enjoyed this one more than Hejira, but I have the same complaints again Joni has such a beautiful voice but it feels like she's singing a different tune/rhythm to the music. Makes it very difficult to get into these songs 3 ⭐️
Really good voice and really good lyrics but the actual music I’m just not a big fan of
👍
I've always kind of struggled with Joni Mitchell. I think she's a good musician and a reasonably good songwriter, but I don't like the way she sings at all. I don't like the constant shifting between her lower register and higher register. I just find it totally irritating. I think River and A Case of You are good songs in spite of the vocal stylings, but I don't think I can do more than 3 stars.
Very samey, very repetitive, very idealized sentiments, but with a strong foundation, reminds me a bit of unpolished Imogen Heap Best track: Little Green
Kind of the opposite of what it's supposed to be. It's trying to act so smart but the writing just feels childish. Great singing though
gave "carey" jimmy solidarity vibes i think im liking this more than the other album of hers that popped up, hejira don't love the christmas song overall i think the first half of the album was interesting and i liked listening to it, and the second half was more meh. richard's was good tho i think. maybe just confusing
The songwriting on this album is rich, personal, and brilliant in some ways. But musically this one doesn’t quite do it for me beyond a couple of tracks (Carey and River being the standouts). Maybe I’ll like Hejira more when I get to it.
Good lyrics, voice gets annoying, though.
Akustista folkkia, kappaleet ihan ok. Ilmeisesti silti aika arvostettu levy. Parani loppua päin, silti ihan ok. Parhaat: River, Blue, A Case Of You
Very beautiful and heartfelt.
I haven't listened to much of Joni Mitchell's work, but I know many of her songs. Especially those that are covered by other artists. I am also aware of this album's reputation, which has always been discussed in audiophile groups and the title has been re-released on many audiophile labels. The first time listening to this for me. I find that it is very good but not really my go-to type of music. To be fair I listened to it twice. I give it a 3.5.
It’s fine. Like I said for a different album of hers on this list, her music never really grabbed me. That might have something to do with me not really paying attention to lyrics.
I liked this one significantly more than the last Joni Mitchell album we got. It was pretty. I might put it on again when I am in a melancholy mood.
I read up on Joni during my listen and really got to understand her through her songs about navigating alcoholism and her love life.
Decent vibes. Joni was bad back in her day
A chill background listen
Okay. Folk music isn’t really my jam. But pretty lyrics and stripped-down music.
Another of those albums that needs more than 24 hours. She has a lovely, delicate delivery. But these are songs that need to seep into your bones.
Interesting
Never listened to Joni Mitchell before, but it seems people love her a lot. However, I couldn't really get into her music. Her voice is distinct, but not my kind of thing, almost a bit too screechy at points. The melodies are nice, but they get a bit dull and repetitive. It feels quite average to me.
New Girl is my favorite show. IF YOU KNOW YOU KNOW
I recognize the talent and the significance and importance she had in the music industry, but her style just isn't my bag. This was fine for a one-time listen through.
Mellow
3 Stars
3.4
The first thing i noticed about joni is that excellent voice. Really nice. The album itself seems to start off on a level and remains on the same level throughout. I like the acoustic drive throughout the record. Makes it more of a chilled out album to me. Overall, a decent album, probably a 3.5 for me. Didnt really hit any high points though. Good songs - case of you, california and river.
I'm not really sure what to say about this album. I'm not sure I really understand why it's considered _so_ good, maybe I just didn't listen intently enough. I find the vocal mildly unpleasant, but nothing that ruins anything. Standouts Carey California 3/5
Teilweise gute Nummern.
Solid, but a bit much at times.
the hissing of summer yawns
I understand why this is rated so highly by critics. But, the songwriting style (storytelling, minute details) just aren't for me. Her voice is divine at times, but the high falsetto gets a little jarring. "River" was a standout, and "A Case of You" is better with James' Taylor's guitar. 3/5
It wasn't anything too special
I liked this. Joni Mitchell is great. I don't love her singing style all the time, but I was in the mood for it today 3.5
It's OK. Musically it's nice, vocally it's nice, but I'm afraid that 'nice' just doesn't really butter my parsnips.
# 300 : Keeping it real, nice voice and nice instrumentation (what ever it's called), not sure it’s the 3rd best album in the world (Rolling Stone 500 Greatest Albums of all time), but it's nice and sweet. Very beautiful and heartfelt. Favourite Track : Carey Listened : 16/08/2024
Only listened to first half. Joni's voice sounds nice but the timbre of the songs is a little too light and airy for me. Pleasant background music for a nice morning.
Not my cup of tea. What I expected from a Joni Mitchell album. Probably one of those albums you needed to be 15 for when it came out.
Pleasant enough to have warbling away in the background, but that’s about it for me.
Not usually the kind of album I go out of my way to listen to, but I’m glad I did. Lyrically it’s a really solid LP, and Joni’s voice sounds great; her voice is technically great, yet still has a raw honest edge to it. I just feel the overall album is a bit of a slog to get through. It’s a very somber record. But from a musicality standpoint it sort of loses its momentum with me as it goes on. I like variety in my LP’s, and very few genres can hold my interest unless there’s a bunch of different flavours thrown in the mix. I give this album a 3 - but it’s a high 3.
I can see why critics are so high on it. Her voice is pretty incredible and an amazing instrument that is well-used on the entirety of the album. The piano work is engaging and, for me, leads a pretty good musical effort. The problem was I was just bored with all the songs. I kept thinking, "Oh man, there is some potential here and I can't wait for the next song to catch my interest. It happened precisely once on "River." Most other times, the lyrics just felt a bit too artsy and forced into a cadence that rejected them. I understand the reverence for this the same way I may appreciate a painting I don't particularly want to look at for long.
May become one that I looks back on and wonder why I gave it a mid rating. The flow of the vocals don't work for me too well and although it started to grow on me, it is taking a lot of effort.
I appreciate its place in music history, but I've tried to enjoy this album more than a few times over the years, and something about it just doesn't quite click with me. I go back and forth on whether I enjoy her voice or not, but I definitely think it's too loud in the mix.
(listened feb 5 2024) its fine i guess highlights: all i want, california
Great stuff
On one hand, you can feel how much influence this album has had on so much music that came after it. On the other hand, not really my style.
Gets better as it goes.
I think maybe I’m just not enlightened enough yet for Joni Mitchell. I’m one of those plebs who doesn’t like the style and it makes me sad bc she’s obviously very talented
Didn't know "River" as Joni's originally. Always love that song - even when it's not Christmas.
Top three were carey, california, and this flight tonight I appreciate the tenderness in her songwriting, very honest. Some of it was just a little too old folk-y for me
God oplevelse. Ikke lige min genre. Synger underligt men behagelig oplevelse
Decent
new kind of music for me, but a good album. maybe need to grow on me a little
Better than the last Joni Mitchell album, which was too jazzy for me. Some of these songs are quite beautiful-sounding but it's hard for me to imagine wanting to listen to them frequently
Nice background music
She is very good and a very particular flavor.
Ok. Beautiful voice but not a fan of her sound.
Yeah idk
it was ok. some of the songs were good but this album is not quite my style
One more admires this record than enjoys or closely relates to it, and definitely prefers the Hissing of Summer Lawns. The pure and raw vulnerability of the voice – almost shaky at times – is what comes through most clearly, with collateral damage of seeming ragged, sloppy or overly confessional (or tedious in the case of Richard buying his ballet dancer girlfriend a dishwasher). Indeed, she's probably to be held to account for allowing so much confessionality (confessionalism) into pop music, of which we 've had entirely too much down the years. The lack of musical adornment grates after a time. “River” and “A Case of You” are the top tracks, though overall this is pretty squarely in overrated territory – and way overrated in that Rolling Stones' Best 500 Albums of all time has this inside the top 10 and maybe even top 5.
Great voice but not overly my kind of thing.
Liked this a lot more than her 70s folk contemporaries
6/10 Hi Joni? This is HR. Are you OK? We keep hearing this wailing from your bathroom. I want you to know you are a valued member of this team and we are just concerned for your well being. 6-27-2024
не лучше пммл. слишком тоненько поёт для моего удовольствия и слишком рождественские мелодии в той одной песне
Not m'y favorite JM album
Blue has conjured up such a mythos that has become quite impossible to downplay or dispute. Its stature from dismissed musings of the Laurel Canyon scene and its inhabitants to a vaunted masterwork of a woman approaching her peak in creativity has become something to behold and admire in recent memory. That didn't stop me, however, from coming away from this feeling blue because Blue made me cold. The majority of the record was essentially fitted in one ear only to pop out of the other. It felt monotonous at times. I didn't hate it but I didn't overtly love it like I wanted to, either. I respect its status in this day and age but it's not for me. Favorites; My Old Man, Little Green, California, This Flight Tonight, River.
Sad girl. Save for a specific mood.
“Boring. Yawning. Sloppy.” -Abby Lee Miller
Beautiful voice, gentle folk piano accompaniment
I liked the first track All I Want and I get the autobiographical nature of it, and it's amazing she was so young to write something so accomplished and cohesive but it just didn't hold my attention – I kind of felt like it all sounded a bit the same after a while.
I can see why this album would be listed in the top 1001 of all time, but I can't say that it's my style, per say. It wasn't bad listening to this first thing in the morning while I was working- it definitely fit the mood. Overall, I just find this album repetitive and a little boring.
To be honest, I am just not a big fan of Joni Mitchell. I've tried repeatedly to listen to her and just don't enjoy most of her music.
already listened
Not terrible but I really dislike when her voice hits that upper register. And she does that a lot.
Decent album, but nothing mindblowing. Carey is probably the best track here
Sure Joni, now let's get you to bed
Her best album, but I still don't get it.
I have tried multiple times to love this album and I can't bring myself any further than just liking it. I think what is missing is either a set of striking melodies, or alternatively some more creative instrumentation.
Lyrically and melodically this is about as well written an album as you'll find. Unfortunately, it just doesn't resonate with me enough to hold my attention throughout the entire album. The lack of energy eventually takes its toll and my attention is lost.
while I like Big Yellow Taxi better, River is the most interesting track for me here on the folk album, otherwise ok
I want to love Joni Mitchell’s music, sadly I just don’t most of the time. It’s more like poetry set to music than good song-writing. She’s very talented, it’s just not very catchy. River is beautiful though.
Really love this album and Joni's unique voice.
I don't get it but I don't think it's made for me
An easy listening album
The first day to properly relaxxxx and this was a nice listen, like someone else's music while Lucas slept on the couch
La canadiense Joni Mitchel o te gusta o te desespera. No hay término medio con su personal estilo y voz aguda (o sus extrañas afinaciones en la guitarra). A case of you es un perfecto ejemplo. Hubo algunos discos tanto o mejores, en un excelso 1971: Led Zeppelin - Led Zeppelin IV, Marvin Gaye - What's Going On? David Bowie - Hunky Dory, The Rolling Stones - Sticky Fingers, The Who - Who's Next, Don Mclean- American Pie, John Lennon – Imagine, T. Rex - Electric Warrior, Sly and the Family Stone - There's a Riot Goin' On, The Allman Brothers Band - At Fillmore East, Nick Drake - Bryter Layter, Can - Tago Mago, Black Sabbath - Master of Reality, Rod Stewart - Every Picture Tells a Story, Carole King - Tapestry, Leonard Cohen - Songs of Love and Hate, Paul and Linda McCartney - Ram, Funkadelic - Maggot Brain Flamin' Groovies - Teenage Head, Faces - A Nod Is As Good As a Wink... to a Blind Horse, The Doors - L.A. Woman, The Beach Boys - Surf's Up RORY GALLAGHER - Deuce, NINA SIMONE - Here comes the sun, IKE & TINA TURNER - Workin' together, BADFINGER - Straight up ,Jethro Tull - Aqualung, Janis Joplin - Pearl, David Crosby - If I Could Only Remember My Name, Pete Dello and Friends - Into your ears, Santana - Santana III Gene Clark - Gene Clark/White Light, Van Morrison - Tupelo Honey Isaac Hayes – Shaft y Black Moses, Nilsson - Nilsson Schmilsson Elton John - Madman Across the Water, Al Green-Al Green Gets Next to You, Kevin Ayers – Whatevershebringswesing, Sixto Rodriguez - Coming From Reality... Este de Blue está a la altura de cualquiera de ellos. pero requiere paciencia y varias escuchas.
5 / 10 Cantautora, aburrida si no entiendes las letras.
3.5 a lot to digest
Fantastic voice, good lyrics. A bit too folky for me overall, though
Everyone in my family seems to love thos album! It's OK.
River is Jingle Bells. Otherwise some great songwriting.
A very pretty voice but I didn’t really connect with any of these songs
A few very good songs. After a while though it started to remind me of Mariah Cary when she has to hit her high note in every song. I would be listening to a song and mentally bracing myself for when she would go for the high note. Overall not a great experience listening to the whole album.
Classic Joni Mitchell. I'm not a big fan but I appreciate her influence.
# Playlist track - A Case Of You # Notes - Interesting listen. I didn't know much from Joni Mitchell before. - She has a tendency to "over sing" in some parts of the album. It doesn't feel like this is a lack of skill. Seems to be that those are ornaments and flourishes to add character and interest. However, for me, they tend to sound more distracting than interesting. -1 star. - By the end of the album, you are already a bit tired, and then you have to listen to "The Last Time I Saw Richard" which is the worst offender. -1 star.
Cute hippy music
first half was very rough but i found a few songs i liked near the end
Repeat appearance… maybe a group glitch
A technically sound and thoughtful album that absolutely did not resonate with me.
I think listening to all of those jazz albums helped me appreciate this album more. While I appreciate the importance of album, it's not for me.
Her upper range is a little annoying, but her voice isn't bad overall. Some of the songs were not so bad, but I don't think I'd listen often.
Pretty good.
Nette Singer-Songwriter Song aus einer anderen Zeit.
So hippie Boomer it hurts. But I mean that in the best possible way. Joni is ultra talented and there is some unique songwriting here that is not easily copied. Brandi Carlile probably comes closest. Maybe Tori Amos. Cool shit that just happens to not be my favorite style.
3 feels like a disgrace to Joni mitchell
Ok, a great voice. Great story telling songs but....why so many vocal histrionics? Kinda samey throughout and nicely tuneful but somewhat repetitive.
I have not heard of this album but I have heard of Joni Mitchell. The songs had beautiful instrumentals and were very slow. It’s not my favorite type of music but I enjoyed listening to it for the time being. I’ll probably listen again!
Pleasant :)
Pretty good for hippie music
Quite an enjoyable album. Not a fan of the big pitch jumps, but that would be Joni’s signature found in pretty much every song. High 3
California is particularly good. A good album and we like it.
Join Mitchell sings with such emotion and earnestness for her space. This is a hallmark album in this genre and makes total sense to have on the list but it isn't a blast to listen to.
I've always loved Joni's voice, but she is an artist that when I hear her music I think, "I like that song" but I never really seek her out. Good album to get a flavor of her style.
I think it's good but not a "Masterpiece" as most musical outlets make it out to be. 7/10
Joni Mitchell is not for me. I had never listened to her and earlier in this project I listened to her album "Court and Spark" and thought it was fine, but was surprised it was so polished and lush from a production standpoint. Folks told me that "Blue" was more her folky stripped down arrangements and that I'd probably like it more. Which it definitely is, but it just seems and sounds so one note to me. Nothing stood out at all. Another time and another place perhaps, but not for me.
Really really unique voice, I wish this was on spotify because if I gave it more relistens I’m sure it would be a higher rating
I could see this album growing on me. I liked it more this listen than previous listens. It has a whimsical feel to it.
Joni’s a true, hippie poet. (Can’t go wrong with a little acid, booze, and ass - I guess.) Seems like she’s stream of consciousness singing; many of the songs sound like she’s making them up as she goes along and are about what ever thought pops into her mind as she sings. She does have a pure voice, great for coffee house background music. Every song was new to us, as in neither of us remember any of the songs from the radio back in the 70s. The album had to have gotten some airtime, just nothing memorable. Not surprised the album made the 1001 list, but still puzzled as to why it comes in among the best albums ever made. Open for explanations. Enjoyed it (2.8*s)
Its ok. not bad
It’s a decent album, and the music and instrumentation was very enjoyable, but I definitely had to try and get use to the sound of her voice which I wasn’t too impressed with.
Great voice, enjoyed it a fair bit. Didn't get a wow factor from me, but then the album is twice as old as I am!
Some bangers on here but I still prefer Hejira
Apart from River no sounds stood out
Alright
Took your music off Spotify in protest of Joe Rogan? Really?? This album isn't as good as everyone says it is regardless of that unfortunate anti free speech factoid.
This was nice, her voice is lovely. It's not really my kind of music so I wouldn't listen to it again but I'm glad it came up. Highlights: California River A Case of You
I only knew of this particular JM album through Maynard James Keenan. Really liked JM’s vocals. Album has a good, folk artist vibe to it.
very clean
it was good, not personally for me, but still good 3.4/5
It's not on Spotify.
Finns inte på Spotify får kolla SoundCloud sen. PS orkar inte just nu
Beautiful, excellent display of talent, but it takes a specific type of person to listen to this more than once.
Not really my style
Not terrible. Folk music can sometimes be a bit much, but Joni Mitchell does a good job of threading the needle.
Leider nur ein Song auf Spotify von diesem Album aber dieser gefällt.
I lived with my mom when I was in Middle School after she broke free from my dad. Turns out she was a total bra-burning, free-love hippy. Good mom, but not so great role model. This album was heavy in the rotation at our little apartment, and I didn’t know much better, so I enjoyed it. Still do I guess, in moderation. Man, those were weird times.
Only one song
Enjoyed. Sure it would grow on me with further listens.
Sad
A beautiful voice, great lyrics, some truly timeless songs - why don't I like this more?
The absolute softest 3. It's probably more of a 2 for me personally, but it's artistic accomplishment is pretty undeniable so a 3 seems more correct. Plus river is very good.
A new listen for me, I thought I had heard lots of songs from her before but I didn’t recognize any of them on this album. Usually a big name artist has some new fun tracks to enjoy, but it didn’t grab me the way I was expecting.
It was enjoyable, but didn't seem a lot to it. I feel like it might have grown on me more, but it was difficult to find and listen to unfortunately.
It was solid, a nice change of pace from the last two picks, but I enjoyed it. I wish it was on Spotify lol
Thoughts before listening: Joni Mitchell is an artist that I respect immensely, even owning a few of her records, but I just can't get into her music. I think her voice is to "warbly" for me or something. Blue is one of the albums I own, and it certainly is one of the more approachable in her catalog. Review: This has some songs I really do enjoy like "All I Want", "California", "Carey", "River", and "A Case of You". Those would all be getting added to the playlist if Joni's albums were on Spotify. For the other songs I just cant get into it. I recognize that the lyrics are confessional and have a ton of meeting for Joni's fans, but I just can't get past the vocals and rambling song structures. This is a 3-star album to me.
Beautiful songs, shame full album not on Spotify.
Joni
7/10
3.5
I had a college professor have us do a close reading of this album, nice to revisit it I like it
Depresso
Liked it a lot. Just can’t really do her high pitch vocals when she gets there
I have no idea why this album should be so important, it just didn't convince me.
Not my style of music but Joni’s so talented and her voice is so damn beautiful, anything less than a 3 star just feels wrong.
Couldn’t listen due to blocked on spotify
Not my thing
This album isn't available on Spotify by Joni, but another artist covers it. So far the storytelling and cadence and seem like Joni, I wish it was her voice.
"Love Actually" ruined this singer for me ;P
Of course a classic. I have heard many of the tracks but never listened to full album. Joni + guitar or piano. Distinct vocal. Lyrical storytelling. Candidly - listening to the tracks individually is better than all in a row.
Nicht sehr originell - hört sich an wie Rocky Lee Jones
Hard for me to quantify, really. Something I've been able to appreciate from a distance but never quite get. After some time, it actually was coming up so often on my Apple playlists I had to delete it from my library. Something about the warbling in head voice, and the sort of too-interconnected piano chord textures. It's so insular.
An amazing singer and lyricist but this album was just ok for me.
It's not bad, maybe i just wasn't in the mood for it.
It has some good moments like Carey, but it doesn't really speak to me.
Probably my favorite album by Joni Mitchell. Still not my thing.
Very nice voice
Can’t even listen to this album on Spotify! At least she was kind enough to upload the album in full on YouTube.
Unable to listen on spotify at all
not a fan
Album Nr. 4. Lässt sich anhören. Ist mir aber etwas zu chillig. Mir fehlt hier etwas Kraft und Power.
she has a lot of fun with her voice soothing background music with interesting vocal performance wont revisit tho
Folky woman singing. Some are upbeat some are sad. She has a nice voice. Gives older music vibes. Spotify didn’t have this album so we listened to a selection of what was available. 2/3***
Meh, I know it’s classic yada yada, but I have never been able to get into Joni Mitchell at all. So I can’t rate it badly because it is supposed to be such a Huge Important Album. But, it’s just not for me at all.
I wasn't a fan of her voice at first but it kind of grew on me. - 3.5/5
Felt kind of tranquil listening to this one. Some songs I liked were Blue, Carey, and California. I liked how simple some of the songs were, like just vocals and a piano. Overall though it wasn't my thing, don't know if I would listen to the cover to cover again.
bummed its not on Spotify. how poetic that we just watched love actually and the lady got this album from her adultry committing piece of shit husband and now we are listening to it. ily Joni edited: ok I didn't like this album that much I think Joni Mitchell is cool and I like her music but the cadence doesn't really work for me.
5/10 - Ben Platt made a cover of River that I think is better but overall an ok album.
Dope voice and some great lyrics but her flow is kinda ass and I really did not enjoy listening to the songs. 4/10
6/10
Am I the only person on earth who doesn't like Joni Mitchell? She and Morrissey should do an album together since they both sound like children making up melodies as they go along.
Prententious not being on Spotify
Chill Album
Un album qui parle des relations. Belle voix douce qui vient chercher les émotions.
Didn't listen, it's not on Spotify because Joni hates Joe Rogan. I'll have to download it somewhere in the future.
Was very pretty, preferred her other one though
very joni mitchell of her
Good music, nice melodies. I can't listen to that voice for too long
Not sure on this one
I wish I could deal with her vocal style, but it's not for me. I was charmed by a lot of the very 1971 lyrical choices, and the music sounded good, but I was ultimately waiting for the album to end.
ну не мой явно подход к мелодике
Beautiful songs that set the standard. My only issue is the tone of her voice at higher ranges doesn't sound good to me.
I know this album is very popular but to me it was a bit too free flowing musically and her distinctive, yet often very high voice was a bit annoying. It was a good listen as a background music but I wouldn't give it anything near a 5.
Was nice background music
I get that it's good, but I don't think I like listening to it.
Another one I haven’t heard. Album from the 70s and genre defined as “singer/songwriter” on Apple Music. Quite pleasant - what it says on the tin really. Vocal/lyric driven songs with a sad tinge. Going with 3/5. Pleasant and not bad but definitely wouldn’t add to my library.
Joni joni, great lyrics.
I've tried to love this a few times over the years because many of my friends with good taste rate it highly, but it's just too folky and earnest for me. Maybe it reminds me too much of the worst aspects of my childhood.
Initially liked her voice and interesting melodies, but as the album wore on, it became tiring and all over the place. Unique, and glad I gave it a listen, but wasn't for me.
I liked little green and the album gave a nostalgic feel
3/5 Dobry album, złożony głównie z akustycznych ballad, żeński Dylan ładnie śpiewa, w przeciwieństwie do wokalisty the clash wyraźnie. Miałem wrażenie, że słuchałem Lucky Mana autorstwa ELP przez 30 minut ale moog sie zaciął a greg ujebał se dżądra. Rock progresywny lepszy
Songwriting not for me but great voice.
Moeite om er in te komen maar vond de teksten interessant.
i expected to like it more but i think it's not really my type of music. I don't personally enjoy the flowing spoken word style lyrics but i can appreciate it. River was my favourite song in the album
Smooth chill and relaxing. Lyrics occasionally lack structure but flow of neverending sentences can entrance
I did not enjoy this but it was good
Dobra je Joni, al nemogu je slušat više od 4 pjesme zaredom.
Beautiful melodies. Nice and tasteful acoustic instrumentation that goes with it. Can't say much about the lyrics because I was busy working. It sounds like someone reading from a book and signing every sentence they see as they want. Guess that's the singer-songwriter vibe, but sometimes it feels too disperse, and it's hard to make sense of a song.
I liked this better than potter sounds. A lot of the songs seemed to blend together but her voice is really unique!
Not all on Spotify
Love the tone of her voice and the instrumentation. My favourites are the guitar and vocal tracks. The guitar is recorded really nicely with a natural stereo spread but Joni's voice seems off to the left in those tracks which was a bit jarring. It sounded good but was too words for me and lacked focus - too easy to become background music.
not on Spotify
All the songs sound the same to me. If you like folk music with a touch of soft rock, this is likely your jam.
Despite the sexist NPR commentary starting this was the best album ever made by a woman ( obviously they are hinting it isn't comparable to something made by a man ), I found it to be enjoyable. Joni Mitchell is incredibly talented.
I can't get used to the cadence.
Well, unfortunately, only “A Case of You” was available on Spotify so I wasn’t able to listen to this album. But Joni Mitchell’s voice is lovely and the song is lyrically beautiful. I found the whole album on YouTube. Weird to me that it is available but not Spotify. I guess she’s monetizing by playing commercials that you must dismiss after *every* song. Once I got to listen to it, it turned out to be a really good folk album. I think Joni Mitchell is a better songwriter than singer, but the album really doesn’t have any bad songs.
Very erratic singing style, doesn't seem like something nice to listen to while stressed or anxious. Suddenly goes into very high tones randomly, does not sound like something she does without effort. Regular singing voice is decent but you never know when she's gonna go into the higher tones, unexpectedly. Her music incorporates a lot of nice piano sounds. Her higher tones sound better when they seem more predictable, such as in the song Blue, it's more deliberate, unlike the song Carey which is all over the place. Standout song: California, "will even kiss a Sunset Pig" Piano and acoustic guitar are played so fast and hard, sounds kind of erratic.
ça me fait pensé a joan baez
Couldn't listen to the whole album as only one song was available, but if that is anything to go on, it will be worthwhile getting the album.
Some songs cute, good morning vibe, but overall didnt find it that interesting. Vocals good tho
Soulful, boring, whiney, ground-breaking...insert whatever adjective you want here and it will be Joni Mitchell sounding like Joni Mitchell. This is not a bad album. It's just the same album.
fav: last time i saw richard
Looks like a fairly short album. Not a bad thing though.
Good album but I wouldn't advise listening to it if feeling low or in a bad mood.
I'm unable to listen to this album without upgrading to Spotify Premium. I have the tracks \"Carey\", \"Cailfornia\", and \"River\" on a greatest hits album, and of these three I really like \"Carey\".
Loved blue, river and last time I saw richard
3 stars
som calminho, bonito
I like the vibe of the album. Scaled back instrumentation with mostly just acoustic guitar and piano and interesting vocal melodies, but none of the songs really captured my interest.
(As of right now, not availible in the UK)
Was fairly samey but still enjoyable.
Never listen to Joni Mitchell aparantly it is one of the greatest album of all times. The songs are really beutifull and her voice is wonderfull But folk isn't my kind and i'm not so much attracted by this kind of melancolic and sad music, altough its technicaly very good.
I'm not sure if I like it or not
Unpopular to say, but Joni Mitchell’s “Blue” is a good folk record with some fantastic songs on it, but I’d be lying if I said it truly captivated me as an album experience.
I can appreciate the artistry with this one, but a lot of it just didn't stick with me. All the little high pitched fluctuations in her voice and a few overly arythmic sections ended up being distracting to me. I could very much feel the emotions being conveyed, which takes a lot of talent, and a few of the tracks were able to suck me in and keep me engaged.
Very nice. 3.5 stars
I am still not convinced
I'm not a fan of Joni, but this is the album I can nearly enjoy.
Good album, not something I normally enjoy, but I liked Mitchell’s singing and prose
Finally got to tackle this one, having been readded to Spotify! Liked the southern twang in 'California'. Some of the songs ran together/lacked a distinct sound. Overall would not mind listening to this again but will probably not actively seek it out. 3/5
Folk setentero. Cantautora. Ni fu ni fa.
I own this in CD (not on Spotify) and really want to like it but I can't get past JMs vocal delivery which really grind my gears. That's all really. 3
Overrated I’m afraid
This was a good folk album, Joni has excellent vocal range, great singing talent. River, and A Case of You were the highlights on this album. Overall a good listen
The albums is brimming with wonderful moments lyrically and musically. My Old Man a romantic ode to a lost love. She sings "he's my sunshine in the morning, he's my fireworks at night" and conjures up the joy of early romance beautifully. On "This Flight Tonight" there is a break out at around two minutes where the songs changes pace for a quick "wig out", and I love this small moment. The "River" is a personal highlight, her voice a little quieter, gentle piano nothing more, tells the devastation of a relationship that is faltering, where one party needs to escape but there is regret hanging in the air. Personally, I find Joni's voice in the higher ranges a little too much, and over the course of the whole album, irritating. It's a personal thing, I won't deny the quality of the song writing and the devastating beauty she conveys, but music is about pleasure for the listener.
This is a record you listen to alone. This is a cryin' record. Deeply personal, and about as sad as you can get.
Her voice is annoying as fuck but some of the later songs are ok
Nice Album

I've always loved River. A Case of You was pretty great as well. Her voice still doesn't do it for me.
There are some bangers on here
This is the best Joni Mitchell album we've had so far (think this is our third?). That said, it's still not really for me, I'm not a huge fan of the wobbliness in her voice, and it's a bit too samey throughout. 3/5.
Previously rated The Hissing Of Summer Lawns as 3* and always liked that album more than Blue due to the over-the-top way of singing on Blue. It is highly annoying, only partially compensated by the quality of the songs (which become better when played more often). 5/10 = 3 *
It's Joni Mitchell, so I struggle to score more than 3. Can understand why it's in the list, just not my thing.
The trouble I have with Joni is that all songs tend to sound too similar. So a 4 gets knocked back to a 3.
Good folk music. Can see how it influences later artists
Listened Before? N Okay this one was better than the other one (or two) I've heard on this list... but to consistently rank it as one of the top 2 female recorded albums of all time (publications keep doing this) is a nostalgic view. I don't think it cracks my personal top 5. She is definitely transparent and skillful in her lyrics (and California is an absolute BANGER) but her voice becomes SO monotonous after a while I just can't see it being the greatest ever. I'll give it another listen but I'm leaning toward 3/5 on this one. Added to Library? N Songs added to playlist: California
Weird aunt poetry
Listened to this 2-1/2 times and it’s just not for me. Singer songwriters are hit and miss for me, and Joni seems to be a miss. Bummer since so many musicians and people whose musical opinions I respect really love this album. I’ll come back for a few more tries, but for now, this is underwhelming. 1 - bad 2 - average 3 - good 4 - great 5 - outstanding
A good, mellow, slightly… blue album. Good, but I gotta be in the mood…
Soft, but nice. 3/5
I'm getting closer and closer to becoming a Joni Mitchell fan. These songs are constantly surprising to me and I thought a Joni Mitchell album would be a pretty dour affair. I can't say I've got standouts here, but damned if this album isn't actually fun. Which is weird to say? 3 surprising stars.
RIver is a brilliant song....
Fav Tracks: Carey, California
Well this is the most I’ve ever liked Joni Mitchell I still think the way she sings and over complicates melodies detracts from the songs, but the songs and lyrics are often quite remarkable. Still not sure I’ll ever be a Joni fan but I did like this, whereas I’ve given some of her other albums one star reviews
I liked Carey and Little Green
It's easy to hear the influence this album had on music as a whole afterwords. Rock influences seep in here and there, along with Blues. Not a fan of the album, but undeniable that it's extremely influential
Buena voz para un disco del que solo es accesible una única canción. No puedo evaluarla más
It was alright
3/5
This isn't my usual taste in music, but it has to be considered a classic of its genre. You can feel some of the influence here, particularly with regard to Bob Dylan. Fav track: River Least fav track: This Flight Tonight
Tyckte tyvärr det här var rätt tråkigt. Vissa låtar gillar jag dock
