Easy listen

Has a couple of their famous tracks, and also some terrible tracks, real mixed album

"Hey mighty brontosaurus Don't you have a lesson for us"😔😔😔😔

it's fine

Well, it's a hit or miss album; Apart from the songs that I listed below as my "favorites", I can hardly recall any songs worth listening to. Easy, laid-back, jazzy songs aside from the bewildering mess that is "Mother". I enjoy me some Sting songs and albums from time to time but this was not it--nope, not my cup of tea at all. A completely forgettable album, no wonder they called it quits soon after. Favorites: Every Breath You Take, Walking In Your Footsteps, Wrapped Around Your Finger, Murder By Numbers

After Reggatta De Blanc, I wasn't going into this with high hopes. I think that proved to be the right approach - most of this was right on the edge of underwhelming. I get that they are trying to explore some new spaces here and I appreciate them getting away from the reggae stuff, but it just doesn't really work for me. I will call out "Mother" (the track with the lowest spotify listens) is a very big swing, and I kinda love it for that reason. If they did more of that, I might actually look forward to these albums. By far my standout track on this one, and the only reason this didn't get 2 stars. PS- I retroactively downgraded Reggatta De Blanc because I reread my review and boy did I not like that record (I think I was trying to be deferential to it's influence on later music).

carried by 2 songs

It started off real strong, went into an oedipal fit of art rock, and slowed into cheesy 80s essence. I mean, Every Breath You Take is pretty much the staple, a sound so well executed and recognized that it embodies all of the cheese grease of the era. I can understand them being a huge band, but I'm feeling they might've been huge for slightly cringe reasons. Bunch of talented musicians making music for mass appeal. It's a shame, there's a few really good songs and ideas on here, but the bulk of the album is something I reduce to 80s production with a hint of reggae influence. 2.7/5

Okay. Couple of bangers.

Never been a massive fan of the Police, but one of those bands that you know the songs. Mother was very interesting and not what I was expecting. I like the concept but felt it was not delivered well. Overall the album was well structured with a good distribution of notable songs. The 2 big hits were obviously there, but I also enjoyed the 2 Synchronicity versions as well as king of Pain. The album had a strong mid-section. Synchronicity II was probably my standout. 3.5 stars

- beter dan ik onthouden had

not my type. king pf pain esta salvando la verdad

Decent new wave album but too patchy to rate higher. 'Every breath you take' is a classic but feels out of place.

Some songs are difficult to listen to all the way through. Others are fantastic.

Very nice

Partial, Dad, Distant.

Not bad. I sometimes think The Police try to make their music too complicated on the assumption it will sound better. I don't think it does.

They should blow up the dinosaur song on the radio instead of the lolita one I think I'm scared of Sting did he just say "there's a skeleton choking on a crust of bread"? Fav song: every breath you take!!!!!!! (king of pain is a close second)

Five albums in and the Police remained as snazzy and snappy. One hell of a discography even if it's not life-changing

I really enjoyed certain songs but a good portion of the album didn't stand out to me very much.

its ok i almost fell asleep tho

The back half of the album stood out. King of Pain is an underrated track that I have not heard of before.

I had a bit of a Sting & The Police phase once upon a time but I was very much a best of kind of guy. Suffice to say, this is the first studio album I’ve listened to and there was only one (very famous) track here that I knew. I enjoyed the album but perhaps I hoped for more of the big hits.

Very angry album , at least the first few songs. I quite liked most of them except for the mother one I didn't like that hell nah some oedipus bs

Some songs are well known classics and some are better than others. Enjoy the variety and patented Police harmonies.

A bit of a mess of an album, some real wtf is going on here bits. And then one of the best songs (albeit stalkish) of all time. Stewart Copeland really is one of the best tubthumpers. 3.0/5.0 Best Song: Every Breath

Not their best, some pretty cheese songwriting hear, but still solids pop songs.

I enjoyed listen to the Police, this was a fun unique album

Pretty good :)

Every breath you take is such impostor on this record. I prefer Sting's singing that way over his screeching on other tracks.

Honestly if you heard "Every Breath You Take," it's pretty much all you need to know about this album. This and "Synchronicity" are the only songs worth listening to. The others didn't age well.

Mostly good, but what was with that "Mother" song? Weird stuff.

Synchronicity I Miss Gradenko Synchronicity II Wrapped Around Your Finger Murder by Numbers

Decent. Ei kuitenkaan ihan riitä itellä neljään.

Better than Coldplay

Not my type of music tbh. The forst half was not that good but i strated to pickup in the end a fone album nothing really special

Lol, you can just sense the seating animosity in this album. It really does lack the faithfulness and enthusiasm of earlier albums.

New Wave rock. 80s. Most successful album. Quite creative but also quite weird. Starting to think New Wave isn't my genre.

My first time listening through Synchronicity, the title track (part 1) instantly reminds me of King Gizz. Very repetitive and fun, but not my cup of tea. Track 2 is really funny (Mr. DINOSAUR LOL), but kind of boring when coming off of Synchronicity. The atom bomb line is potent and makes the title of the song ring much more truthful than the at the start. Track 3 O my God is standard Police fare. Track 4: Mother starts out really cool, and reminds me of Oingo Boingo and Mr. Bungle with it's herky jerky lyric singing as well as the content of the song. Track 5 feels like a departure from track 5 but is still in it's orbit, drifiting closer to O my God and Synchronicity 1. Synchronicity 2 tells a fantastic story but I find kind of flat and regular but I understand its appeal. Every Breath You Take. King of Pain is fun, but standard Police fare. Wrapped Around Your Finger rules. Tea in the Sahara is laid back. Murder by Numbers has got to be my favorite track on the album.

every breath you take

Not memorable

generally liked this. some good jams. except that crazy song Mother. Had to mute my speakers for that one.

I had a feeling an album by the police would eventually appear, and it is not a bad one. Even though it is somewhat a combination of rock and reggae, neither style overshadows one another, and i do kinda appreciate the unique percussion

everything from “synchronicity ii” onwards really carries the album as a whole. also sting, freud called; what the fuck???

6/10: this was my first time listening to an album by The Police and overall, mixed bag. The consensus on this album is that the first half is a bit crap and then the second half great, but I actually really loved the first half of the album with all the mad prog rock bits, but the second half was all a bit slow and samey to me. Best song: Syncronicity I Best moment(s): the bits on side A that reminded me of the all the bands clearly inspired by this stuff like Black Midi

I liked this more than I thought I would. The first half of the album isn't very strong. That may be from the contributions of Summers and Copeland. It may be from the new experimentation that Sting was playing with. Either way this doesn't pick up until Synchronicity II. Synchronicity II Every Breath You Take King Of Pain Wrapped Around Your Finger

So this one was divisive for me. I'd say half I enjoyed, some were meh and I quite disliked a couple. 2.5

I find Sting's reggae-esque voice quite irritating but didn't find this too terrible. Nothing particularly remarkable and an absolute clanger in "mother" which absolutely kills the album. I'm probably at a 2.5 but will round up to 3 as I suppose I would listen to this again at some point.

Te wisselvallig, wel paar bangers zoals murder by numbers

some jams some not

Some good tracks but not a great album for me. Got better as it progressed but the a few of the early tracks we just annoying.

Good fun, even though the songs take forever to end lol

not enuff reggae...

pop hits are hits, others I am not enjoying

Some albums are a 3 because they’re just mid all the way through. Others are 3 because they flip-flop between genius and idiotic. This is the latter. I never listened to a Police album before and came in with middling expectations. I was shocked when the opening track of this album positively blew my hair back. I then immediately crashed back down to earth when I had to listen to a PBS Kids song about respecting the dinosaurs. This essentially sums up my experience with the album as a whole. P.S. everyone on here saying “Mother” shouldn’t have been on the album is insane, that song is an obvious highlight.

Why are these albums so fuckin' weird? This is something inventive, energetic, kind of expansive, and also kind of boring. How'd they pull that off? Each song has something great and something that sucks, and it's stuck squarely in the early 80s. Half the time it sounds like Huey Lewis. The big hits are big. But in the context of the album, they sound like that stuck-in-the-80s thing that they otherwise wouldn't (they'd just be 80s songs). O My God has this great jazzy undertone but it wastes it. Annoying. In contrast, the one track that's fully its own beast is Mother. Which everyone else seems to hate. It's not enough to move the needle, but it's the most interesting sound going here.

This was pretty good, supposedly the best Police album but I think I like the debut more.

the second half hit

had a couple of these songs are still stuck in my head a week later. “Every Breath You Take” is the worst song on this album

Sure, I know The Police's biggest hits, but I've never been a fan. Synchronicity pretty much lived up to what I expected: skillful and stylish playing, one overplayed hit and a couple of other good ones (King of Pain and Synchronicity I and II), one really crappy one (Mother, obviously) and a few decent songs. I might listen to the highlights again, but that's about it. Strong three stars.

Ok c'était chiant

Very experimental, uses sounds and beats i've never really been used to hear :) First few songs are pretty cool, love the what the heck is Mother even about haha. It sounds crazy and like a glimpse inside the mind of a crazy madman. King of Pain had cool vibes but its so sad :( I obviously know Every Breath You take, an iconic yet haunting for me growing up. I did not know Synchronicity were 2 songs/parts. Cool :) As i get into the album, it sounds more and more 80s like, which is super awesome! Wrapped around your finger reminds me of Rhiannon by Fleetwood Mac, in a way. The writing was cool, and the imagery and other literary devices/form of speech in the songs, and the music is pretty unique compared to today's cookie cutter pop songs.

Genuinely very disappointed after hearing the hype. Not even close to the best police album

I have long believed The Police to be overrated, yet I have mostly enjoyed every song I know by them. Anything that isn't that awful white boy reggae stuff. There's a bit of that here, bur mostly it does feel overrated. It's remarkable how much better than every other song on the album Every Breath You Take is. If it wasn't for the vocals, you'd swear it was a different band. Nothing bad here. Competent playing, good lyrics mixed with the cringe, but nothing close to how good that one song is. It's a five star song surrounded by 3 star songs. Wrapped Around Your Finger is cool though.

Still not loving Police. ... (One extra star for the flawless and crispy drumming, though.)

Pretty good. A little easy listening for my tastes.

Memories of the cottage hanging out with Tom... this was an album that we could 'agree' upon. Some tunes hold up over time (I still dig Synchronicity II), but my god that Mother track is horrid.

I enjoyed the deeper cuts like Murder by Numbers, Miss Gradenko and Walking in Your Footsteps but not Mother

A destacar: Track 1 - Synchronicity I Track 6 - Synchronicity II Track 7 - Every Breath You Take Track 8 - King of Pain Track 9 - Wrapped Around Your Finger Track 11 - Murder by Numbers

Alright

The Police has great hits, but the albums tracks on this one just didn’t do it for me.

I really want to like this. The craft is high, but their sound just gets on my nerves.

What a difference between the first and second half. The first half isn't great to go trough, did not enjoy. Second half has ofcourse the big hits, but has some variation in some more eighties stuff, or more slower things. Shame of the first half. 1. Every Breath You Take 2. Murder By Numbers 3. King Of Pain

It was alright

It is fine. A couple of good tracks but the rest average. A bit like the other album.

Synchronicity I — the keys are jumpy and catchy. The harmonies are good, but the vocals aren't that refined. The keys kick into an even higher gear towards the final phase. Walking In Your Footsteps — the tom drums and the woodwinds remind me of A Tooth For An Eye. The polyrhythms are a highlight of the track for me and all the ghostly guitar wails are entrancing. The vocals, when stressed, don't sound amazing, but are passable when relaxed. O My God — groovy, but really struggle to remember this song well even after relistens. Mother — the dramatic vocal performance is really engaging in a loopy weirdo way. The instrumental sits on a weird line between good and potential carnival music. Miss Gradenko — feels very flat to me. Very repetitive and short. Not a fan. Synchronicity II — very 80s. The rhythm guitar on the verses reminds me of the Cure and similar goth rock; the screeching electric guitar in the instrumental bridge also gives me this vibe. Very 80s in a good way. The final crescendo is steady and sounds great; shame it's immediately faded out like most songs of this time period. Every Breath You Take — a lot slower and poppier than the other tracks. The vocals are clearer and more mellow. Nice twist on love songs by making the narrator a stalker; the album seems to deal a lot with crazy people. The looping backing vocals at the end are an earworm. The song doesn't feel that dynamic to me and is not my favourite. King Of Pain — the delivery of the chorus is really flat and it gets too wordy for me. The plucked electric guitar on the verses is the catchiest part of the song. Wrapped Around Your Finger — lots of reggae influence in the the vocal delivery and the bass line. The chorus sheds this reggae influence (maybe not trusting it to be pop enough) and while the chorus might've worked by itself or on a different song, it feels out of place here and feels like the less creative option. Tea In The Sahara — very slow and very bare. There are some interesting fading effects and sound effects, but not enough to make me listen again. Murder By Numbers — find the chorus quite annoying, even if the vocals themselves are good enough. The synth-like electric guitar stumbles through the track like an old jazz singer's dancing. Favourite song: Synchronicity I Least favourite song: Miss Gradenko Overall: the album got less original on each listen for me. After my first listen, I thought the album was amazing with the different synth grooves and afrobeat influences, but the second half of the album began to feel too slow and lacking in dynamicism for me. Still a good album with a great opening two tracks and two title tracks. Went from surprising to disappointing. Rating: 3.2

This is an album i have generally avoided. I think partly because Sting fans are almost as unbearable and pretentious as Sting. There should be a supergroup of super insufferable egos - Sting, Bono, Prince, Ginger Baker on drums, etc. i also dislike how Stuart Copeland seems to have a Neil Peart like reputation among his fans, an almost god-like drummer. I mean he’s not bad but he’s not that special. Anyway rather than impose Stung’s i sufferability to nto Copeland’s drumming i should just listen to this. For it’s time it’s interesting in style - carribean feels, not too heavy 80’s rock style to the drums (more aubtle tone and small flourishes - a lot more ‘percussionist’ than drummer on a few songs). As a three piece the hi-hat flourishes and touches help fill out the sound i guess but the interplay between the bass and the drums is not all that interesting. Copeland drives the rythm but i wouldnt say the rythm section is ‘in the pocket’ though that is more a comment on the bass than the drums. There is more interplay between the guitar and drums. But maybe thats not unusual for a 3 piece, particularly where the bass player also sings. I read something once where Copeland said he doesnt do drum solos. I never realised the whole band have the same approach. No solos on this. Moody chord progressions, a few synth riffs, no solos. Not sure it is a better album for it. All in, they are not terrible musicians by any stretch. But they are not put of this world either. They have a distinctive sound and that in and of itself is a mark of being good at what they do, but not an album i will have on high rotation.

There's a few good songs on the album and it feels like a high 3 to me.

Pretty okay stuff. the saxophone was fun. Every Breath You Take would be the best song if its lyrics weren't creepy as hell. Favorite Track: Walking In Your Footsteps

i think they may have better ones... but it was still, very nice

Tea in the Sahara good. Every breath you take great.

This is a tough one. Some of the songs are wonderful and some aren’t. I expected more from such an epic band.

Bastante prog

Un álbum aburrido. No es mala música, pero no engancha. Las canciones, muy parecidas. La mejor: Wrapped around your finger.

A few good songs but generally it's pretty uninteresting to me. Decent background noise, but everything does tend to drag on a bit with not that much to offer.

I actually quite like some of the songs here, Synchronicity I & II, Every Breath You Take, hell I even enjoyed Mother. The other songs range from boring to fine though and drag the album down.

the latter half of this album saved it barely from a 2. There are better The Police albums imo. Enjoyable but disappointing.

Loved this album as a kid when my family would play it during long car rides. It's still got some bangers on it, but really feels like a product of its time.

This is I believe the third album by The Police that I encounter on this list, and the first one that's actually a little bit interesting. I'd probably give it two stars if not for Every Breath You Take.

Game of two halves. Side one is mostly forgettable, side two is full of hooky singles.

Day 86: The Police-Synchronicity. 3.5/5 (⭐️⭐️⭐️ 1/2.) The police have always occupied a strange place in my mind where I like a number of their songs but never actively seek them out. That being said, this was a pretty good album, starts with a bang on “Synchronicity 1” and keep a pretty good momentum going for its full runtime. Favorite song is probably “Mother” with its bizarre lyrics and very anxious/paranoid vocal delivery. Biggest downside is a comparatively weak final leg of the album, but there’s still a lot of good songs here.

Honestly, I was expecti g more of The Police. I knkw at the time they hated each other and I dont know but there is an animosity in there. The album is fine but nothing amazing.the beginning is quite boring with some weird combinations but it just improve with the singles Every Breath You Take and King of Pain...whichbI think this is why this album is on the list . 3/5

A few good bits here and there. These guys would've done better with ticktock rather than the full song format.

Peaceful

A good listen. Interesting enough. Good background album. "Wrapped Around Your Finger" and "Murdered By Numbers" were the favorite tracks.

Nor particularly keen on this album, but Every Breath is an absolute classic.

Pretty cool overall. Hooky. Never heard this Oedipus complex song Mother and I'm starting to understand why.

This album lacks what I like about the Police - the juxtaposition of Copeland's and Summer's jazz / prog / reggae influences and Sting's pop aspirations. Instead the hit songs are all Sting while the rest of the album is bits and pieces from the other two.

Sting, probably, in 1983: “Guys, guys, guys, I have a great an idea for a prank! Let’s put all the boring songs on side A and then all the great songs on side B! Then the closing track will be the where’s the beef lady saying ‘You’ve been STUNG!’” Don’t look up what year “where’s the beef” was a thing.

I tried to get into The Police. They never stuck with me. This is an uneven album. Mother is awful. The hits are good. A three, I guess.

Always loved the track Synchronicity II, so I thought the full album might be a pleasant surprise. It wasn’t. The singles are cracking, obviously, but the rest feels like polite background music for people who own too many beige jumpers. A lot of it had me thinking, “…and this made the 1001 list? Really?” In classic Police fashion, the hits do all the heavy lifting while the deep cuts sort of mill about looking confused. There’s a reason I’ve only ever owned a Best Of — and this album absolutely reminded me why.

The Police like to do this thing where they repeat a line over and over until it starts to hurt my brain. Sending out an SOS, put on the red light, canary in a coal mine, etc. They only do that a few times on this album (opening track is the main example) so it’s more listenable. “Mother” is an awful song, though. I’ve discovered The Police just aren’t for me.

Liked a few songs towards the end of the album, “Every Breath You Take” is a classic.

Every Breath You Take saved this album not gonna lie.

Bel de wouten

Never listened to an album by The Police. Mainly because Every Breath You Take and Roxanne just never did it for me. Glad I’ve now listened to this. I can see why it’s iconic even if it’s not something I’d actively seek out.

First song was really good rest was mid

Mixed. I'm not really interested in the clever lyrics, I'm just reacting to the tunes and the vibes. I prefer the energy of the older days - Roxanne, Message IAB, etc. But I like some of this, purely as melodic pop. Very shiny production, as was becoming the norm in 83. I suppose, in fact, the "clever" lyrics do matter - they illustrate the fact that Sting was getting more interested in sharing "ideas", and less in bashing out three-minute bangers. The sound, too, is more Sting-centric; Tea in the Sahara, for example, definitely sounds like solo Sting. Some of those melodic pop highlights: I hadn't heard Synchronicity II or Wrapped Around Your Finger for decades, and enjoyed them afresh. Agree with others that Murder By Numbers would have been a far better fit, if a token "Andy song" was required; Mother belongs in the bin.

I didn't enjoy this one.

Didn't realise how weird an album this would be. Mother is certainly out there. Theres probably a lot of depth to the album and lyrics but I'm not jumping down the rabbit hole. 2.5/5. Raising to 3.

This one is decent. Didn't love it didn't hate it. 3 stars

Every breath you take is still a bop

Wild, adventurous and theatrical one moment, and 4/4 metered pop in another moment…uneven, proggy, but this band has chops.

Hard for me to rate objectively in light of what followed (breakup of the band, Sting’s solo career in which I quickly lost interest). Some great songs, mammoth hits, on side 2. I enjoy side 1 less than probably everything by the Police that preceded it.

definitely interesting??? some more experimental sounds mixed in (mother was kinda crazy and not in a way i particularly enjoy…) with more typical songs… i haven’t really listened to the lyrics of every breath you take before and uhhhh lol…. overall more enjoyable for me than jazz but not a huge fan

I tried with this but just could not vibe. Obviously the singles are good to great and the production is really crisp. Has all the hallmarks of something I’d like so maybe just have to keep engaging with other albums from The Police to appreciate where this (their last) ended up.

Synchronicity indeed. At least 3 really strong songs

Underwhelming record. Some very good songs but a lot of fillers with very different sounds that make the album sound incohesive.

The A-Side is quite rough unfortunately Last 4 tracks are great Never really been interested in The Police, not a fan of some of the production 6.4/10

The opening track is one of the most interesting opening track of any it's pop/rock albums know of. From there I think it's a mixed ride. Some tracks feel somewhat over-spiritual, not knowing if it's truly genuine or pretentious. Those are the lows for me, and the high is ofc Message in a Bottle.

War schon nett

Ist das ein Glocken Beat?! Jungle vibe Groovy Beats & Melodien Vorher schon gekannt: Every Breath Favoriten: O my god, murder by numbers

Ok. 3.4

Good except that one weird Mother song.

I mean it's alright, definitely overrated though.

Love Every Breath You Take king of Pain is good as well

so i like the songs, and they have really interesting compositions. but i don't think i like the audio mixing. too many of their songs sound underwater or at the far end of a hall

this is a unique album. you ask why? because it is a post-punk new-wave shit that doesnt lack all the soul and rhythm as some do. everybody knows “every breath you take” but it isnt just centered on that and it offers a much broader perspective. the last song has become my favourite and it is “murder by numbers”. songwriting is good, rhythmic structure (whatever thats called) keeps you in the game. a solid 3.3

Always fun, and I love that the deep cuts are always weirder than the MTV/radio hits.

No love, no hate. Some good song, kind of forgettable for the rest.

Surprising in some of its depths. Not what I expected to find when finally listening to the Police, in a good way. Not quite a 4 for me, but still really good

not a whole lot to talk about here - every breath you take is the only thing hauling this album up to a 3

Every breath you take actually not the best song on the album

I really tried on this one but just couldn't get into it. Some of the songs I really liked the beat and the melody and lyrics but Sting just doesn't do it for me.

7/10. Fav Track - Every Breath You Take / King Of Pain there's a little black spot on the sun todayyyyy

Not my favorite from the police, but a very solid effort

Such white regge

got bored

Typiskt 80-tal, skön bakgrundsmusik

walking in your footsteps--HAHAHA i didn't realize this was a police song i only first heard it via cover like two weeks ago. dinosaurs. mother--is this song self aware or not? is sting singing about how his girlfriends always turn into his mother with a solution oriented mindset or is he oblivious to the systemic issues at hand? synchronicity ii--here's some commentary on the emptiness of modern suburban live and the patriarchy? every breath you take--this is the only song on the album i know from the police. sweet love song but actually a bit creepy if you listen to the lyrics too closely king of pain--another dinosaur reference?? incredible being able to compare radiohead amnesiac (yesterday) and this. both 45 min, 11 tracks, one is a relatively pleasant enough listening experience, the other lasts for an eternity. i don't think either actually deserve to be on this list, but this album is SO much less grating and abrasive. this album is palatable, but not great. easy listening. amnesiac was none of the above. not to make this review about a different album, that comparison is just fresh in my mind. 3/5, pleasant enough but probably will not listen again.

Hmmm. HMMMM. I do have a soft spot for The Police. I love when they combine jazzy riffs and tight grooves and punkishness. This has some moments - King of Pain is great, as are some others, but you also start to see examples of their worst tendencies. Poorly presented ideas open to misinterpretation as per Every Breath You Take, god awful 'knowledge/college" rhymes, the cheesy swing of Murder By Numbers. This just about scrapes a 3 from some nice moments, but itcame very close to a 2.

starts very frantic, like being chased. from the middle the chase is over. mommy issues

Good album by the British band. Much less energetic than the debut, it remains a good album but far from being their best.

After slogging through the dinosaur song and the paranoia drenched Mother song, two of the most baffling early tracks I’ve encountered on this project. It unfolds into a decent album of poppy songs.

Such a range of sounds and styles. I recalled the hits but enjoyed discovering the rest of this one.

This song has there most popular song ever probably but I honestly think it is mid. Synchronicity I and II are working overtime on this oh my goodness they are amazing. But the other song were just umm yeah. Mother was wtf. Put my hopes too high oh well

Decent songs, every breath is a classic, liked both synchronicities too, other songs were meh to me

It's a good but flawed album. Some place drag, some are bearly listenable, but overall it's sharp and as a vision. Some of the hooks are great, and Every breath you take is high on the list of most misunderstood song ever.

Yea its alr. Every breath you take is a good track tho.

Obviously "Every Breath You Take" is iconic. I didn't hate listening to this album by any means and would be happy to listen to it if someone else put it on, but it didn't hit me as an iconic album I'll be coming back to personally.

I appreciate and respect the Police, but have never been a big fan. The singles make this record for me.

It was chill, didn’t really grab my attention, would probably need to listen again

I listened to this album a very long time ago. I remember not liking it, there are some good tunes on here. Synchronicity 1: 7/10 Pretty catchy. Walking in your footsteps: 3/10 O My God: 6.5 Mother: 2/10 Miss Gradenko: 5/10 Synchronicity 2: 7.5/10 Every breath you take: 9/10 King of pain: 10/10 Wrapped around your finger: 6/10 Tea in the Sahara: 4.5 Murder by numbers: 5.5/10

Not my favorite from one of my favorite bands, but gotta listen again

Really unsure Probably a 3.5

Mother sounds like the Pixies wrote it. The production on the big singles is amazing.

The police should arrest The Police for making this album.

Honestly not a huge fan of the police, but there's some great songs here. There's also some pretty bad ones (looking at you Mother) so it's a bit of a wash. Honestly I think this is a 3.5.

Great tunes by The Police with some pretty experimental themes. They don't always land, and sometimes the tracks fracture the flow of the album (Mother and Miss Gradenko being the most obvious), but the hits are very strong and illustrate why The Police are such a great band.

al principio se nota que estaban experimentando con sonidos, similares a king crimson, buenas canciones a partir de every breath you take, obviamente, destacadas tea in the sahara y murder by numbers, resumen 7/10

Yeah thought I was likeing it, but half way through i realised i dont know what hes on about in any of these songs. Every breath you take is great and a few other songs were good but its just a hit and miss album. Open to hear it again and some point but for now a solid 3.

Prefer earlier Police. Think at this point theyre a bit fulla themselves. Sting was going solo Songs about nowt. Or stuff i dont care about. Synchronicity 2 is good, and Every Breath You Take, but heard em before. Eggs are past their sell-by date

I'm a pretty big Police fan. I enjoy their spacey minimalist sound. But this album didn't really have that, and overall it felt aimless and chaotic. The four singles I do enjoy, but the album cuts were weak. Even the singles I don't like as much as some of their other stuff. And I cannot STAND the whole 80s obsession with African sounding music, as if somehow that makes them cultured. Not their best work.

Very good album but Zenyatta Mendatta is better in my opinion. When it comes to the Police, I think their songs are either very good or pretty bad… not too much in/between.

It’s pretty good, but it’s not outstanding. Mother is just weird.

I can’t say Synchronicity was my favourite Police album, though its release, and the singles that came with it, made them the biggest band on the planet. For all that, their last album is hardly a non-stop cavalcade of shiny new wave pop hits. Indeed, the first half features a couple of real dogs, one by Andy Summers which is plain rotten, and another by Stewart Copeland that’s instantly forgettable – it’s the better of the two. The second half is straightaway better; “Synchronicity II”, “Every Breath You Take”, “King Of Pain” and “Wrapped Around Your Finger” follow in order - and the second of that bunch became the world’s best-selling single that year. So, an album of two very different halves, but get past the missteps at the beginning and its place on the list becomes more logical. I still think I prefer all four of their albums that preceded it. 6/10

6/10 Not terrible, but there's something so public school about the band that really puts me off. And Mother is a travesty of a song. Every Breath You Take still a great tune though

Not great, not terrible. For the first time in my life I couldn't wait to hear Every Breath You Take, after that I couldn't wait for the album to be over.

Some dodgy songs on this, some ubiquitous ones. Overall good, seem like a singles band really.

omg its the every breath you take album!

Thought it was going to be better because of the known hits but was a bit underwhelmed

Honestly surprised at how overrated this album has always been. Other than Synchronicity, I’ve only heard Outlandos and Reggatta in full. The final entry feels lazy and slopped together. To me, this feels just like Mardi Gras from Creedance Clearwater Revival. One hit song here, and another good song there; carrying an otherwise flat record to close the book on yet another powerhouse band. I don’t feel the same creativity here as I did from the bands first two entries. The synth textures and production on this one feel overdone for me personally. The song writing isn’t there for me either. The band at is conception felt more ahead of its time, while on this record they feel like they’re being forcefully dragged into the 80’s. Overall, I’m just a hater who misses the bounce and vibes from Regatta. So take my opinion with a grain of salt. There’s still plenty of enjoyable tunes. Favorite Tracks: King of pain, Wrapped around your finger, synchronicity II

Pretty good

Good album. Not the most memorable but I really liked Mother and Every Breath You Take is suchhhhh a classic!

Mostly was nice.

it was really nice sounds exactly like i imagined and supposed the police sounds it was okey liked one song now i know the origin definitely it should be on this list not gonna come back 3 out of 5

I love the bass playing and drumming. The one song that Sting doesn't sing makes you appreciate him all the more. The hits carry the album but they are good enough to do so.

Much weirder than I expected, which for Sting was a high bar

Solide plaat 3 sterren

Classic Police - can't argue that their sound was hypnotic!

I saw this album and was excited. It was a little bit of a letdown. Several solid songs were on the album, but the album as a whole just felt lacking.

The first and second halves of this album are completely different. Both pretty good in their own ways, but neither blow me away. Mother is a wild song and I kind of liked it but will only listen again if I decide to listen to the whole album and not alone. This album definitely does make me want to come back. I bet I would like it more after a few listens, but for right now, it's middle of the pack.

Love Stewart Copeland a drumming, it’s so refreshing. This album was carried by every breath you take and not much else stuck with me. Great band in terms of talent but a bit wierd for me to like it more

2 star overall, +1 star for Every Breath You Take for the nostalgia.

Fun one, not a vibe I'd match with what I thought the Police was like? Couple in there I need to listen to again for sure. Gave me Rush vibes?

Not sure I've listened to the Police before that weren't now the "classic rock" hits. But this side a is pretty good bordering on really great. But side b does drop it down some since the hits are overplayed

just a bit average

Definisjonen av mid. Lunkent vann.

Better than I expected. 3*

I don't know why I've never heard this album before. It's from a prime time when I was listening to music but it somehow passed me by. It's unmistakably the Police with Sting's distintive voice. The album is OK, but I didn't find it exceptional. Musically reasonable although the percussion seems boring and repetitive at times. The standout weird track is Mother. It doesn't fit with the rest of the album but at least it's not a 17 minute epic that some bands at the time would have made.

The Police past their best, but still a good album

I know I should be law abiding but I’ve never quite synchronised with the police

When rock gets self-consciously clever the result is rarely great. But it can be OK. Which, singles aside, pretty much summarises this album for me. Not Coldplay level OK. But OK nevertheless. So it's a 3* then.

why did this feel like a kind of niche cut from the police

Favorite songs: Sybchronicity II, Every Breath You Take, King of Pain, Wrapped Around Your Finger Strong middle: Tracks 6-9 Clunkers; Mother

3 out of 5. As much as I love 80's new wave The Police have better albums.

Well, one amazing song per album is better than average

Some great songs, some not so great. Average overall

Ups...and downs on this one

Ok. Some bangers and more obscure tracks. Overall a fun listen but don’t feel it’s an album I’d need to own, personally.

#837. I was almost ready to give this album 4 stars, but that song Mother is a war crime. 3/5: acceptable

Radio play album, nothing truly special.

Not bad, the lead song is the best song

Diddy must have took this album very seriously.

Noe var ganske kult, noe var forjævlig, mye interessant intrumentering.

Positivt overraska. Åpningssporet og Mother e jo 👌 6.8/10

Hørt på morgenen. Kvintessensen av 80-tallets sexy thrillermusikk. Kanskje ikke helt bestått tidens tann.

Særere enn jeg forventet. En del ræl, men også mye bra.

I respect the Police, I like that they take unique swings, but I just don't like them. But I don't think they're bad. 2.5 stars

No single standouts but good overall

Not my favourite Police album, by a long way. Some say it’s their best don’t subscribe to that. This really leans into Stings somewhat know it all personally and that for me is off putting. Like their earlier stuff more and the yeah the singles range from ok to good, the playing also, but there’s a lot hear I don’t want to hear. for me this is more in keeping with what sting did in his solo work and I don’t think it’s a good album, a being very generous 3 Star, for the few good songs.

Different but kinda boring. Like don't get me wrong it's fun, but nothing is really striking me. It's an album with some (overplayed) big hits, and weak deep cuts that just fill the album. - Rhythmic! But idk... - Different! Tentatively interested - Never really went anywhere that made me feel anything - Album ends more pleasant, but just not enough to get this out of 3 star territory

I’m the right age to love this album, but it never clicked for me. I’ve never particularly enjoyed The Police sound, and I find every song to be relatively monotonous. Even there’s breakthrough songs get irritating quickly. I’m generously giving it a 3 for nostalgia, but my enjoyment is probably closer to a 2.

Review - Bit of a weird album. Songs like Synchronicty II are great, and there's a few other good songs on there but honestly I prefer their earlier work. And it's crazy to know that this album was #1 both US and UK, it feels a bit too weird for the level of mainstream acceptance it got. The world music influenced are less popped up than on an album like Graceland, and songs like Mother are so off-putting and abrasive, it's funny to think of a mainstream audience buying and enjoying an album with these songs on it. Rating - 6/10 Need to hear? - YES

People who dislike Mother are weak in both mind and character

Was never my thing, but ya gotta respect the dark tinged pop.

It’s not as good as I remember people thinking it was. Still you know it’s them right away.

Yeah it was pretty good, a little weird tbh. I like the more ska / pop stuff they make

i’ve listened to this before

Some really good tracks and some weird and not very good ones, haha.

knew about it already. liked it

Some great catchy tracks but I think they are a few too many stinkers to rate this album higher. Pretty solid overall though.

Second half of the album is so much better than the first half. It is almost like two different bands- asynchronous!! Rated a 3. If 3.5 was an option I would do that but not quite 4 status even though so great songs on the album. The first songs negated their stars.

The Police - Synchronicity - 3/5 Pretty chill album but just not my bag. Wrapped Around My Finger and Every Breathe You Take are really good though.

Didn't mind this, interesting drums

Best Track - "Wrapped Around Your Finger"

As someone who (until this project) solely knew The Police through singles, it appears they were far, far, far weirder than I ever previously appreciated. The start of the opening track sounds like a mobile ringtone from before the time we had mobiles, and later has a lyric I misheard as "spirits that will spoon me" (he's actually singing "spiritus mundi" aka world spirit in latin and that's equally odd just for very different reasons). Sting's pronunciation of footsteps, in Walking in Your Foodsteps... I mean Footsteps... was fascinating. And, you know, unexpected songs about dinosaurs always get a tick from me. Wrapped Around Your Finger resulted in another excellent misheard lyric: "vegetable well, a bastard" aka "[I will turn your] face to alabaster". I'm not sure if it was Sting's pronunciation or my ears, but there was ample opportunity for misunderstandings during this listen. I thought Murder by Numbers was a good way to round out an absolutely bizarre album. Now, to address the elephant in the room, which I have so far skipped... Mother. I started off thinking "What is this shit?" but something happened before the end.... I think I started enjoying it? Given that I enjoyed the rest, and (I'm sure to the horror of the other listeners in my group) I actually liked Mother too, I think this gets a: 3/5 (but I was very close to a 4)

the song were very good, not quite my taste though. I think i maybe added like 3 to my main playlist.

This the first full Police album I've listened to, and I'd say it was about what I was expecting, given familiarity with their radio hits. The songs aren't bad, and the playing is good throughout, especially Stewart Copland's drumming, which has some interesting tempo changes and time signatures. For the most part, though, the album is a collection of glossy radio ballads with varying amounts of "world music" pastiche draped over top. I don't mean that as a bad thing necessarily, it's just not the most engaging listen to my ear. There are a couple twists I wan't expecting, including "Mother" which feels like a fever dreaming Tom Waits doing some kind of proto-punk. I don't know anything about the band's history, but that track feels like a different band entirely, and I'm interested if there are more pockets of it on other Police albums. Overall, it's a nice sounding record with ultimately forgettable songs. 3 from me.

по факту every breath вывозит весь альбом но есть прикольные miss gradenko synchronicity ll murdered by numbers

A couple amazing songs surrounded by meh

This thing was everywhere when I was in college, it was nigh near inescapable. I never liked it all that much but that didn't seem to matter.

Really only liked synchronicity I and Every Breat You Take, however i think with a few more listens id like a lot more

i knew some of these and holy shit SOME ARE SHITTTTT 3/5

Not my style but has a lot of good beats in the album.

Coming into this album the only song I knew was Every Breath you Take. After listening, I think its a decent album. There were a handful of songs I really like and stood out to me and then there were some that I was like can we move on to the next one. I think the strengths of this album are Sting's voice (its so unique with like a rasp quality that I would describe as like ashy, but in the best way possible it just works) and the instrumentation on this album (they weren't scared to make songs that sound weird, or use instruments you wouldn't expect if you aren't a big fan and it works). I would go back to some of the songs on this album and this album definitely makes me want to check out some of the other music by The Police. Last thing, I never realized how creepy the lyrics of Every Breath You Take are. It was so unsettling realizing what he was actually saying in the verses. They did a great job making the song capture the actual intended message of an over possessive lover

After listening to this album I have decided that The Police are a good singles band and an average albums band. I did listen to this a couple of times and it’s OK, but that’s it for me. I don’t feel like I have any need to revisit it again. Looking through my own collection I was shocked to see that I had a CD box set with all of the Police’s Studio albums and. B-sides. I must have bought it in some kind of bargain sale as the fact I didn’t know I had it probably says it all.

EVERY GIRL I GO OUT WITH BECOMES MY MOTHER IN THE END!! lmao ok apart from that one insane interlude this was exactly how i expected a police album to sound and i had a generally good time.

Lwk I’d listen to a few songs again

"King of Pain" ?

Another band I kind of missed due to being just slightly too young to catch them in real time. I know the hits, side two is pretty flawless. Side one patchy as. Suffers from the whole being less than the sum of it's (admittedly excellent) parts for me. Might have to listen to the others, even if it's just with a musician's ear on.

I could see how this album would appeal to some people but unfortunately it did not speak to me.

I was vibing along until “Mother” started playing. What the FUCK was that song

Some absolute HITS, and some... that did not hit. Sting's dynamic voice is always a win for me, though. Maybe it's an acquired taste, but if so, I've certainly acquired it.

My dad loves the police Spiritual? Interesting. Repetitive, groovy.

I’m in the strange position of loving everything about this band with the exception of the sound of Sting’s voice. So like, 5/5 for instrumentals and 3/5 when you include vocals. This feels like an extremely niche problem to have.

Between 3 and 4 for this. Some great songs, but a lot of what felt like filler. But, Sting did sing a song to dinosaurs.

I just sure do hate the Police.

I think I has a best of Sting/The Police album as a kid so some of these were very familiar

I like Sting and the Police. However, Synchronicity features my all time least favorite song by the Police (Every Breath You Take), so it gets docked a bit. Otherwise, it’s got some solid songs and some that are… certainly a choice that I would not make.

idk really average, he's not doing as much obvious fake Jamaican accent, but its still just feels totally nothing, every breath you take is not really that good. Obviously the playing is fine, the drummer and guitarist especially are great. Favourite songs: not many but maybe that one where he's talking about his Mother on the phone, because its interesting and reminds me a bit of 80s King Crimson. Overall around 5/10

Some highlights mixed with some forgettable and boring filler tracks. Plus Mother, which does not belong on this album but I definitely could not describe as boring. Highlights: Synchronicity I, Mother?? (can't really decide if I love or hate it), Synchronicity II, king of pain. I also quite like every breath you take but it's so overplayed that I don't know if it's a genuine like or just familiarity.

So many great tunes on this album and an absolute all-time classic in ‘Every Breath You Take’. The song-writing & production is fantastic for the most part, but what let’s the album down slightly is the moments of pure inconsistency that leave you feeling confused and jarred. ‘Mother’ is the most bizzare track, breaking the flow of the album completely. Albeit less bizzare, there are a couple of other tracks that feel out of place. It’s a 7/10 for me - 9/10 for the killer tracks, just let down by some odd moments.

The Police are a band I ignored because when I was growing up, I didn’t care for Stings solo musical output. I’m aware of how highly regarded they are and listening to this now, I can hear why even if it’s not been immediate for me. I think l I probably need to spend some time with this which I may do. I certainly wasn’t expecting a truck like _Mother_ which felt closer to something like **The Pixies**. Although it was very untypical of the album, it was interesting to hear them venturing into that territory.

Reminded me of when i worked at zellers

So this is a band on the verge of breaking up and by the end it shows Tea in The Sahara is a bad point, so if you bought the vinyl you had a whimper, but Murder by Numbers is not that good either for those with CDs or streaming the album. The two title tracks are great and I can't stand Every Breath You Take. 3/5 pd. Mother worries me

I just picture only murders in the building when I hear this album

Way funkier than I thought it would be. The song about dating his mom was crazy

Mother was an absurdly tough listen

Not sure why I never really clicked with the Police. Maybe because I find Sting to be a very pretentious person and musician? Anyway, this album has a song about the Loch Ness Monster, so that’s cool.

Some artists have a moment in time where they spit out a deluge of hits all on the one album. Sometimes that's Michael Jackson's Thriller or Taylor Swift's 1989 - a standout success in a body of work that is already impressive enough as it is, and sometimes it's Jeff Buckley's "Grace", Lauryn Hill's "The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill" or The Sex Pistols' "Never Mind the Bollocks" - one defining release that stands alone as their great achievement. The Police are not like that. I realised today as I looked through their discography that I know exactly one song from every Police album. Literally exactly one song per album. That's not to say The Police didn't make a lot of good music; they just have more slow-burn consistency - and I have to say, I like the Police songs I know! They're all great. Listening to Synchronicity I felt this quite strongly - that there was one hit song, (I'll give you one guess...) and the rest of the album was quite good but nothing really stuck out. I'd happily listen to this again, but honestly I'm probably more likely to just seek out the hits. (Side note: Stewart Copeland is completely brilliant, what a drummer...)

-finally listening to more of The Police. i had only heard Every Breath You Take before this and it’s definitely the stand out on the album, presumably their entire discography -was maybe expecting a little bit more from them but i didn’t hate it, there were some great songs on here like Walking In Your Footsteps. would probably wanna check out more -Favorites: Walking In Your Footsteps, Every Breath You Take

Some of this is great and some of it is a little goofy

A couple of good songs, but mostly just ok. Synchronicity I ★★☆☆☆ Walking in Your Footsteps ★★★☆☆ O My God ★★☆☆☆ Mother ★☆☆☆☆ Miss Gradenko ★★☆☆☆ Synchronicity II ★★★☆☆ Every Breath You Take ★★★★☆ King of Pain ★★★☆☆ Wrapped Around Your Finger ★★★☆☆ Tea in the Sahara ★★★☆☆ Murder by Numbers ★★☆☆☆

Didn’t really like this one. Hate strings vocals and his songwriting is pretty poor. Stuart Copeland saved it a little bit but not enough

Bunch of mid songs with one awful song (Mother) and one great song (Every Breath you Take)

Not so much my thing but it was fine!

mõned laulud meeldisid mõned ei meeldinud eriti

Some really good songs and others that I simply did not enjoy. Overall I like The Police but I won’t scale my score up just because of their name.

Some all time classic songs but I didn’t feel like the albums sound aged well.

Synchronicity I is very fun - I really liked it Walking in your footsteps feels like trekking through sand, at points it goes on too long?? And becomes boring I DID NOT LIKE “MOTHER” IN FACT I WOULD SAY IT RUINS THE ALBUM WHAT IS THIS SONG. Gradeko is ok, feels like they just strung some words together tho Synchronicity II - also good and enjoyable King of Pin is kind of like Gradeko just mid. Some good songs amongst some absolute schlop. The best by far Is Every breath you take its so unique in it’s sound across the album, I wouldn’t go out of my way to listen to most of these songs but If someone played them I’d be okay with ut…not mother though. Mother can suck it.

The 2nd half of the album was good and sounded more like The Police. First half was certainly different but not great. I applaud the experimentation with sound but it didn’t pan out for me. Synchronicity II is a winner.
