Reviews (page 6 of 14)

i like the instrumentation, the aspect of storytelling is buried in the lyrics. top 3: o my god, mother, synchronicity I

Een fantastische hit (Every breath you take), en een gruwelijke misser (Mother), afgewisseld met relaxte en typische the Police muziek.

Great album. I've always loved the Police.

didn't age as well, liked it at the time - still really rate high synchronicity.

Obviously, I’ve heard “Every Breath You Take” but in the context of the rest of Synchronicity, it sounds completely different and has a new emotional payout. I like the song he sings to the dinosaurs. It’s nihilistic in a camp way.

Needs active listening to appreciate. Lots of interesting sounds!

I LOVE STEWART COPELAND!!!!!!

Überraschen virtuos

Though probably not The Police’s best work, this is without doubt their most cohesive project. Copeland is criminally underrated, and should be in the same conversations as Peart and Bonham. You know what, you’re gonna make me say it, I don’t care that Every Breath You Take is the best song on the album.

I much prefer the first three Police records to the last two but grooving along with Copeland & Co. is never a bad time.

Synchronicity by The Police is a very strong album with hits including "Every Breath You Take" and "Synchronicity II." Classic new wave and 80's pop, this album is very easy to listen to and is a perfect example of the music of the era. Of note, "Mother" was a deeply disturbing song.

Pretty good

This is surprisingly good! Especially the first half of the album is right up my alley.

Probably, both The Police's and Sting's best album.

what a classic. absolute banger. great to end the workday with.

Not my favorite Police album but a classic. King of Pain is one of my favorite Police songs ever.

very nice

#1, #8, #10

Learning to love 80's music has been a really fun and interesting experience. Especially new wave. It is such an intriguing genre of music. Because there is this strangeness to it. It always feels a little off-kilter. The Police's Synchronicity blends new wave with more traditional elements of rock. And what keeps this album moving is the technical proficiency of each member. Particularly Stewart Copeland. He is so tight and precise, and his internal timing is incredible. I love his work on this album. But the other 2/3's of the band absolutely hold their own. The A-side is filled with pulsating and high energy bops. But once you get to the B-side, things slow down quite a bit. These songs are good, but aside from Every Breath You Take, I'm not super fond of any of them. The one thing that the album benefits from for the slower songs is that Sting's bass comes in even clearer, and it sounds amazing. There is one specific song I do have to mention in detail though. Mother genuinely confuses me. Because it kind of sucks. It is somewhat of a blemish on an otherwise really solid album. It is the only song Summers wrote for the record, and thankfully so. I'm not saying the whole album would be astronomically better if this song wasn't included, but it could have probably done without it. Rating: 7/10

Already enjoyed this, own on cassette.

It was dope

i really like it. a few strange ones but some i would listen to again. i already love every breath you take but the synchronicity I and II were very good.

Both Synchronicity I & Synchronicity II are very catchy & Every Breath You Take is still a masterpiece. Honestly, the second half of the album is very, very good. Some of the songs in the first half were way too stereotypical 80s pop, but the second half really makes up for it.

Solid album, but Mother is definitely one of the worst songs I've ever heard. It's like if that running joke from The Suicide Squad about Polka Dot Man's mother was condensed into a song and it was recorded while Sting had a vicegrip clamped to his nutsack.

Slightly let down: when I saw The Police I was expecting slightly more, an amazing album with no skips but it wasn't all that. Ofc there were a couple of good songs with a strong Reggae feel to this whole record but I was expecting something so much more. Kinda interested as to what else they have released and if it lives up to their reputation.

Great display of musical prowess - lots of radio hits on this album as well as some deep cuts. Overall, very good album thats surprisingly short.

every song is from a different album and yet... it makes sense. What a way to go out. The Seinfeld of albums.

It is surprising how old it sounds. It has not aged particularly well, but you can still hear the sheer brilliance of its pop appeal and its experimentation.

Pretty fun surprise, didn't think I'd enjoy this as much as I did.

I didn't really get into the non-hit songs that I was already familiar with.

The police have an interesting sound.

I liked the second half of this album more than the first half. I think one of the songs may be about a dinosaur, which was a surprise. The vocals in the first half felt strained and were a little anxiety-inducing. I didn’t realize there were elements of jazz jam with this band.

First half is terrible. Second is great

Some of their best songs on an uneven album.

one of the nicer albums, Mother seems like is from another album though, a 4 from me

Some exceptional songs with some strange ones sandwiched in. The strange ones aren't exactly bad but I'm not sure I can call them good after the first listen.

1. Synchronicity I --- A full on BOP!! 2. Walking in Your Footsteps -- a little boring and spare production/music made me tune out. 3. O My God --- I don't mind this one, it's got a cool sound but don't care too much about the lyrics. 4. Mother -- weird theme and weird vocal style...do not like this one. 5. Miss Gradenko -- quite a bop to me. 6. Synchronicity II -- this one was very upbeat and a banger. 7. Every Breath You Take - obvi very famous, i like it. 8. King of Pain - i didn't mind this one, a little dramatic. 9. Wrapped Around Your Finger - this one is catchy and I like the sound. 10. Tea in the Sahara - a bit boring for me. 11. Murder by Numbers - this one is kinda boppy and a bit of a different sound than the rest of the album overall, I liked this one, very 80s.

First album where I would have voted it 5 stars but went for 4 thanks to one song. "Mother" absolutely ruins this.

This kinda feels like music Patrick Bateman would jam to while walking to his cubicle. Okay after listening to Mother, maybe it's Norman Bates. I still like it despite that comparison. Highlights: Synchronicity I & II, Miss Gradenko, Murder, By the numbers

Good background music, I liked Walking In Your Footsteps, Every Breath You Take and Murder By Numbers best.

I prefer Outlandos D’Amour by far. And although I’m a huge fan of Sting’s solo career, The Police isn’t a band I will usually listen to.

The Police have originality and the spark in their music. And Sting... So they have advantage over here.

The Police are simply great musicians. If you play guitar, and want to take a crack at something hard, try playing along to Andy Summers - way more difficult than you would think.

"every breath you take" deserves its playcount, but it's not the only track worth listening to here! overall it's really solid, it's a shame the new wave sound had to get stuck in the 80s of all decades. at least there's some good music that came out of it, this being one of those.

Really enjoyed this one

This album is eccentric in the best way possible. While some ideas didn't pan out or age as well, they're overshadowed by some really inventive (and catchy) pop music. The last stretch of the album -- from Synchronicity II onward -- is just excellent. Fav Tracks: Synchronicity I, O My God, Miss Gradenko, Synchronicity II, Every Breath You Take, King of Pain, Wrapped Around Your Finger Least Fav Track: Walking in Your Footsteps 9/10

Nada de mal. De hecho, se "escucha" la calidad del disco. No hay nada aquí que evidencie que los tipos de The Police se encontraron por casualidad con estas canciones. Todo muy estudiado, incluso ese adefesio llamado Mother.

I know it's a cliche that "I'll be watching you" is creepy, but listening now, it is pretty creepy. Loved loved Synchronicity II, and could definitely see myself playing this again, albeit in a background situation.

I always forget that the drummer for The Police composed the Spyro music. Then I listen to The Police and remember immediately.

The Police album with the hits. Also the most poppy one. My favourite Police song is here: Synchronicity II.

Started off off but I did enjoy this album. Had a nice Rick feel that I have come accustomed to and enjoy

I liked pretty much the entire album with the exception of "Mother," that was just rough. 4/5

3.5/5. mother is a weird fucking song for the police

Yep, that's 80s pop alright Stand out songs: - Synchronicity II

ezfsftp

second half stronger

for their most famous song being on this album it’s pretty weird

HAIKU REVIEW Is that my mother? synchronous rhythm and sound great band blows apart

An epic 80's album... Plenty of hits and not a lot of misses on this one, but I will say that the song "Mother" (by Andy Summers) is absolutely unlistenable. When listening to the album, I realized I'd heard that song before but didn't exactly recall who/where. Oh. My. But the album more than makes up for hit like absolute bangers like Synchronicity II and King of Pain. Would've perhaps earned 5 stars from me, but with Mother on the album, the best it could deserve is 4.

Really awesome album. It's interesting to listen past band split. There's a heavy solo Sting element I maybe didn't hear at the time.

It is pretty aight. Some weird stuff, but also Tea In the Sahara is a masterpiece. 4/5

I liked that the record hab some very experimental sounding moments. For example Mother. I wasn’t expecting this!

Creative and catchy. Lots of hits and not many misses. The Police's Reggae infused Pop Rock still sounds good today.

One of my favorites with a few B-side gems like Tea in the Sahara.

Side 2 is another of LPs that's imprinted on my brain from when I was a kid. For some reason we really liked Every Breath you Take and then let the record play which is a good thing as it's maybe their best album. Can't give it a 5 because of Andy's just God awful song 'Mother' which I can't help but to skip every time.

Nice, but no standout Tracks except for the single I already knew. 2nd side is the better one, but the first synchronicity track is also good. BT - Every Breath You Take - King of Pain - Murder By Numbers

Great album, no skips.

Good one this. King of Pain and Wrapped Around Your Finger for the win.

Classics, sting's voice is so good

This was mostly great. There were some songs that were questionable.

A rare album in that it's backloaded. Most of the best songs are on Side 2. The classics are here like Every Breath You Take, King of Pain and Synchronicity 2 but there are questionable tracks like Mother that bring the album down a bit. Still, a great listen. I just wish Zenyatta Mondatta was in the book because that's the best Police album.

No surprise that this is The Police's last album, as they basically perfect the art of pop songwriting here. The gems on this album speak for themselves, as they've ingrained themselves into our cultural consciousness. Some of the deeper cuts are a little more forgettable, though not poorly written or unenjoyable in any way. This is a very solid 80's pop album, and I'd give it 4.5 if I could.

Excellent! Love the sounds of the guitars, bass, and drums throughout; most of the songs are good compositions.

Surprised how good this was! Mostly because it lifts liberally from the Talking Heads, The Residents and other great bands. Every Breath is probably one of the less interesting tracks!

1 2 3 A B C Da white reggae mon - The album starts off wild and ends silly. You have the incredibly popular stalker tune Every Breath You Take to the weird ass Mother. I love the 80s sound and I don't mind Sting. Stewart 'Spyro' Copeland is way cooler though.

I found myself going "yeah, it makes sense that Stewart Copeland composed the music to Spyro the Dragon" at multiple points. God, I'm a fucking millennial nerd.

Very unexpected sound. Not what i associated with the police before. Enjoyable

So bassy! I love it!

Murder by Numbers is probably the best song after Every Breath You Take

Listened before. Pretty great album but not my favorite genre

okay nice album

A great album as a whole, and has some good vibes, just a good listen

I was a fan of the Police in the early 80s, and I saw them at Shea Stadium in the summer of 1983 when they toured to promote this album. (Side Note: REM -- then relatively unknown -- and Joan Jett opened...great show!) I owned this album and listened to it often, and it was also the time when MTV had grown very popular and still played music videos most of the time. The singles got a ton of radio airplay. This band and this album were everywhere. I didn't listen to the Police or this album for a long time, but over the past several years when I've heard some of the songs from this album, they stood up well. When I saw this album show up as today's listen, I was curious to see how I'd react to it. It's still a great listen for me. The songs still sound interesting to my ear, and their musicianship is so strong. I never fault a band, an album, or a song for being what some people label as "overplayed." People liked it at the time and it's what they wanted to hear. Andy Summers and Stewart Copeland deserve a TON of credit for how incredible they are as musicians and composers. So superbly talented and dedicated to the craft. Great album.

One of the albums of the '80s, isn't it? There is not just one but two ("Every Breath" and "King of Pain") strong candidates for pop song of the '80s. And even accounting for this being the essential soundtrack of one's most formative years (and for having seen the desk at and the notebook in which Sting wrote "Every Breath" [at Goldeneye in Jamaica], there's still a pile to like and a sense of high-standard urgency from the first notes, with Sting maxing out the sequencers. Every song, save one (and no points for guessing, it's too obvious). The hits are all near perfect pop confection; has there evern been a stronger, three-song sequence than the two above and "Wrapped Around Your Finger." Both title cuts work extremely well. "Miss Gradenko" is sneaky funky, in a skiffling sort of way. "Oh My God" and "Walking in My Footseps" are fine and offer direct links to the back catalog. And then there's the very fine (and Paul Bowlesque) "Tea in the Sahara" (which points forward to Sting's very underrated first set of solo records) and the very cool bonus cut ("Murder by Numbers") which was very much the thing to have in 1982 and one had to buy the cassette to have it (as one recalled trigerred by the slight if unusual delay on the streaming sequence). This was precision-engineered and state-of-the-art at the time and there's a tense polish in the playing that belies what sounds like legit tension in the studio. Worth it, one's time. Only the atrocious, obnoxious "Mother," a song with no discernible qualities, stops it from being a 5. (Congrats, Andy, if sabotaging Sting was one's intent, which this song very much makes it sounds like).

This album is kinda boss. I really enjoy Steward Copeland's drumming. Both synchronicity's are surprising gems that got no radio airplay. King of Pain pretty good. Two other classics on there with every breathe you take and wrapped around my finger. All in all, this is probably a strong four although there are some sewer-level tracks on here.

For some reason I grew up not liking Sting. I think it was his song "Fields of Gold" that made me not enjoy his singing voice, but as I got older I really started to like The Police and for my tastes they have aged like a fine wine. This album is a great example of why they are revered as a great band- there's a really impressive level of musicianship along with really strong songwriting that mesh so well together. I don't think that they fit into one specific genre and I wonder about how this affected them as a band and their marketability. They are definitely a rock band but they aren't hard rockers and they aren't really soft rockers and they aren't really prog rockers. Not that it's super important for a band to worry about but I find it interesting. There's lots of good songs on this album but my favorite might be "Wrapped Around Your Finger". Sting has such a great way of taking a simple phrase or sentence and making it into a really catchy hook, and this one will follow me around all day long. For me it's a 4/5.

Wow I had kind of written off The Police, but this album was fantastic. I didn't even mind "Every Breath You Take" in the context of this album. Mother was an insane song and I loved it

Containing one of the most misunderstood songs of all time, the final record by the Police reduces their reggae influences in favor of flirting with world music. The obvious tension between the band members is a little too obvious at times, but this is still a pretty good way to end things.

Okay, I'll say it: I think the Police are overrated. Yes, the band. I think Sting is overrated too. He's got this outsized legend, like he's the white Beyonce or something. I don't get it. Yeah, the Police have hits, but why is there a generation of people obsessed with Sting? I'll never get it. Anyway, this is a great album with a number of the tracks I do enjoy from them. Overrated definitely doesn't mean they're bad; they've got classic joints, including the Stalker National Anthem. Enough good stuff on here to carry the album, but I'm surprised how quickly their music can fade to the background for me. I don't think we need another from them, this should cover it. Favorite tracks: Every Breath You Take, Synchronicity II, King of Pain, Wrapped Around Your Finger. Album art: Pretty cool with the color striping, but the pictures aren't all that interesting, minus Sting's sensual shoot with a skeleton. 4/5

the police! sting, andy summers, stewart copeland are at the height of their powers on this album. solid musicianship and songwriting, this is just a fun album to listen to. highlights: “synchronicity II”, “king of pain”, “wrapped around your finger”.

of course i've heard some of these songs a million times Im not a big Sting fan I do love Andy Summers guitar stuff. And Stewart is a fine percussionist. "Walking In Your Footsteps" is new to me. I like it. i was just young enough to miss the Police as an album listener. I stole their greatest hits from someone's mailbox when i was a kid. I actually listened to it a lot. I was a self taught guitar and bass player, this was a big help. "Mother" is a bit nutty, eh? "Synchronicity II" is one of their best songs. Great melodies. Cool guitar line. The chorus rules. Just the right amount of weirdness. Pretty massive hit streak has begun. Nest up "Every Breath You Take" I cant help but love this song, despite it's ubiquity and Puff Daddy and Sting and Cat's Eye. It's one of the best pop songs ever. "King of Pain" . I remember it from the radio in Hanna City. Little kid. 1983ish. same with "Wrapped Around Your Finger". What a rad descending guitar line. Well, that took me by surprise. I actually liked most of it.

Side 2 is all 5 star quality, with weaker tracks on the first side. I can see why some object to "Mother", but it makes me laugh. An album I've enjoyed listening to since it was released 40(!) years ago.

Essentially Stings first and best solo album buy my least favorite Police album. Yes this album contains some monster hits and an all time classic video but the there some really bad songs as well and it the lost that sound that made the Police great. 3.5 stars but I'll round up since I love King of Pain so much.

Impressive how tight the guitar and drums are and how loose the bass is and it still works.

every breath you take blijft een schijf der schijven

Classic touchstone of Dad rock (maybe Mom rock actually? I think the Police albums we had on the shelf were hers in any case). I thought I knew what I was in for with this based on knowing only "Every Move You Make" and "King of Pain", so I was impressed with how different most of it was from those, like the A-side was often discordant and evil in a way that was really interesting

This album really brought me back, I remember my parents owning this as a cassette and playing it on my TalkBoy. It's an unfortunate album because Synchronicity 1 & 2, Every Breath You Take, King of Pain, and Wrapped Around Your Finger are all amazing tracks but they're surrounded by complete garbage. I'm rating this high based on those tracks but I can totally see how someone else could justify a 1 star review.

Classic Police Some great songs and some massive hits on this album great mix of synth and instruments giving the album this wall of sound feel Amazing harmonies

A great soft rock album with beautiful vocals and a dreamy 80s musicianship. It is filled with groovy beats and catchy hooks. The song "Every Breath You Take" is brilliant and is quite clear why it is the most popular song on this album. It features a moving vocal performance with backing vocals that send shivers down my spine every time I hear the song. The title track is also one of my favourites on this record. It also has one of the most energetic songs with driving drums and synths all backing the powerful vocals. Overall a really solid 80s rock album!

It's wild. Like two separate albums slammed together. Batshit crazy songs to start then the hits. It's good though.

Always loved The Police! Great album.

Kannski ætti maður að gera þetta við fleiri af þessum plötum, hlusta bara nógu oft. Fjórða rennslið á þessari sannfærði mig að setja 4 á hana en ekki 3. - Venst vel, ekki besta hittara-samansafnið finnst mér en margt mjög gott.

Some massive hits but not every song on the album was a five star.

The second half won me over

A perfect album. Well maybe except for one song and it's obvious which one.

Great. Classic 80s filtered through a reggae-esque sound. Always compelling, always original. However it sometimes can feel disjointed and like a bunch of different ideas, rather than a cohesive listen. A great record.

- not the biggest police fan but enjoying so far - Mother is Beatles-esque? Which is to say, not my fav - I do like King of Pain and Wrapped Around Your Finger - do I like the police? I really came in thinking i didn’t 🤔

First time listening. I recognized many more tracks than expected...I guess I've heard "King of Pain" and "Synchronicity II" several times in my youth, not knowing that Sting's group was behind those tracks. The last half of the album backloads this record, "Synchronicity II" to "Tea in the Sahara" are all varying levels of enjoyment of good to excellent. Not to say that Side A doesn't have any merit, I enjoyed "Walking in Your Footsteps" and especially "Mother" for its musical discordance and absurdity of going against what I thought Sting's musicianship was capable of. If black midi made it, not a single zoomer would be complaining. Someone should ask or suggest 'em to cover that track, they did cover "Roxanne" after all!

This is a fun album that takes some strange turns especially in Mother! But I'm a fan and faves here would be King of Pain, Wrapped Around Your Finger, and Murder By Numbers.

Synchronicity I is a good start to the album. Walking in Your Footsteps is nice. It has a fun jungle vibe and on second listen I paid more attention to the lyrics. Who doesn't like a song about dinosaurs? O My God has a nice jazzy feel, but it's not as strong as some of the other songs on the album. Mother...what the hell did I just listen to? What drugs were they on when they wrote this? It just seems out of place and doesn't fit with the rest of the album. This is the type of "song" that would be on CDs as a hidden track and you would delight in discovering it and laugh at how silly it is. It in no way deserves to be an official track. Miss Gradenko has kind of a catchy chorus, but is easily forgettable. Synchronicity II is a great song and easily one of the best tracks on the album. Every Breathe You Take is obviously the big hit of the album. While it is a great song, I honestly think other tracks on the album are far better. There's something hypnotic to the opening of King of Pain. It immediately draws you in. It is a fantastic song. Wrapped Around Your Finger has such a beautiful and haunting melody. Tea in the Sahara is a nice song, but kind of forgettable. Apparently Murder By Numbers wasn't initially included and was added during the re-release. It seems criminal that this was originally omitted but Mother made the original cut. All in all this album has some really strong tracks, some just ok tracks, and one "what the hell am I listening to" track. It's not perfect, but it is a good album.

Synchronicity II is a keeper. Good album except “Mother.”

at first felt like I was in dazed n confused and then like I was on a safari feel like there's a few diff vibes going on but good I like :)

A near-perfect concept album that ultimately fueled The Police's demise (implosion). The most interesting behind-the-scenes factoid from this album is that the "creature noise" during "Synchronicity II" is a significantly processed recording of one of the studio hand's snoring run through a synthesizer! Every original pressing of the physical copy vinyl record also has a slightly different cover. The tri-color images were printed on a long spool of repeating images, where were applied with glue to generic white cardstock dust jackets. Therefore, not every album cover is aligned the same way. It's a big enough umbrella, but it's me that always ends up getting wet...

Loved this, bit freud-y in one song though

Really surprised by how much I enjoyed this album.

A classic album full of classic sounds. I had forgotten the zany pleasure of "Mother"

I've never listened to much from The Police besides their big hits. Fun new wave-y stuff! Definitely a ton of variety on this album, some kinda weird experimental leaning tracks right next to classic pop tunes. I definitely dig it, I'll need to listen to this (and their other albums!) some more.

All around good, I think a couple songs were a miss though

Excellent snapshot of the peak 80's. Sting is Sting at his melodic best, with the Police providing the driving force, maybe it was all that Tantric sex freeing his mind from the base desires. Not on my regular rotation but nice for a listen

Very nice album. May visit again some time.

Uuuh, Mother was pretty jarring. The rest was the Police. I like the Police.

Hey this Sting sure knows his stuff Not my favorite Police tracks but I like what they do so I’ll give it a pass

Old, but gold

The drumming is immediately great. There's Jazz, Reggae, and some seriously spanky New Wave (O My God could be an ABC/New Order/Depeche Mode track), and even some proggy stuff - Synchronicity II in particular could almost be a Yes track. And Sting is very, very good on this. Tone is nuanced, groove is funky, lines are inventive. The songs feel very distinctly their own to me, like they've really nailed the subtleties of the sound they're trying to create in each case. And I think this elevates most of the songs to great status, where they could otherwise be average. There's really very little to the essence of "Walking in your footsteps", but I thought the whole song was kinda brilliant because of what was going on peripherally. Ultimately at the centre of everything is the drumming, which is as inventive as it is proficient

The first side is a bit wank (read: experimental) but the record really picks up from “Synchronicity Ⅱ“ onwards. Really a toss up between this being a 3 or 4 but personal enjoyment pushes it over the edge

Different than what I expected the album to sound like, not all the songs are similar to every breath you take and they all have a unique character

Not bad for mainstream 80s music and but I've personally never been a fan of the Police. I'll give it 4 stars because most songs are either hits or decent (except for "Mother" - that was awful!)

I have listened to this album before. It’s probably not something I’d listen to regularly, but every now and then it’s great.

This was surprisingly hit or miss for me. The hits were awesome - some of the best tunes that The Police would produce. But some of the others? Mother? Walking in your footsteps? WTF? While I’m generally a fan of Dino Pop, this didn’t hold a candle to Laurie Berkner Bands “We are the dinosaurs”. 5/5 for hits, 2/5 for filler. Rounding up to 4:5.

They have the weirdest song named Mother. So bad, turns a 5-star wonder of an album to a 4-star wonder of an album!

70/112

The second half seemed to have songs that I recognized more, those being really good compared to a pretty meh first half of the album

I do lot recall the last time I listened to this album. What a swan song (album) for such a great and influential band. It is a great listen and every song gets your attention. Also takes me back!

When my wife and I were first married, we were taking a winter road trip across the state (over the Rockies) in a '97 Geo Tracker. We stopped at a large chain retail store and bought a bunch of self-stick insulation tape for the doors to help keep the wind out, and two CDs to listen to. This was one of them, and even though that was one of the most harrowing road trips we ever took, I find perpetual comfort in the fact that every time I listen to this album, I can still feel my wife desperately clinging to my arm as we came down Vail pass with lunatics and psychopaths zipping past us. At the same time, the snow whirled around us so thickly, visibility was only about 10 feet. Good times.

Good shit

There are a couple unlistenable songs but the rest are five stars

I'm slowly appreciating this band more and more. I used to just think of them as the band who did "Every Breath You Take" and "Roxanne" - both songs I was initially ambivalent to, but the more I listen the more I think they have something real to say. When I first heard "Every Breath You Take" on the radio when I was a kid, I thought it was boring. Later, I thought it was creepy. Now that I realize that it's a critical song about something rather dark and serious, yet it's dressed up like a gentle love song - I think it's brilliant. It's not the only good song on the album though, in fact far from it.

Lots of 80s bangers. I'd say in terms of personal enjoyment it's overall a 3 since the 80s-ness is just so locked into this production, I think its selling the material short. Mother was hilarious, it's like Sting wanted to pretend to be The Talking Heads for a bit. Overall if I put my reviewer hat on, it's at least a 4 so I'll round up to that.

great album. instrumentation was spot on as well as mixing.

pretty cool

Ah ! C’est le plus tranquille de leurs albums, mais c’est vraiment bien fait. On s’éloigne du rock/punk/reggae et on va vers plus pop, mais avec de la sophistication. Tous les albums de The Police sont bon à leur manière.

For some reason I've never met anyone who is a die hard fan of this band. Loads of people who like them and their singles but never a die hard for their albums. Maybe it's the smug aura of Sting that's puts people off, but when you've got songs as strong as this you're reminded why they were one of the biggest bands in the world. Best Tracks: Synchronicity II; Every Breath You Take; King of Pain

Great Album

Every Breath You Take = 4

A few classics. A bit raw, not as smooth as some of their other albums.

Synchronicity 1: Like the keyboards / a lot going on / bit repetitive 7/10 Walking in your foot steps: Like the bongos / good vocals / background guitar is cool 8/10 O my God: Bass line is funky / less repetitive / simplicity of the drums is nice touch / brass solo was cool 8.5/10 Mother: Was it his mother on the phone? 6/10 Mrs Gradenko: I like the chorus and the rhythm with the singer 7/10 Synchronicity 2: Strong intro / guitar work is cool / very full feeling song / not repetitive / drum crash symbols are awesome My favorite song so far 9/10 Every Breath you take: This says everything you need to know, it's one of their most famous songs for a reason 9/10 King of pain: Very catchy song overall with nice drumming and vocals / intricate guitar work 8/10 Wrapped around your finger: Has a raggae vibe, instrumental is nice and atmospheric 8.5/10 Tea in the Sahara: Repetitive / spacey vibe 7/10 Murder by numbers: Strong intro / interesting concept / catchy Not a strong ending for the album 7.5/10 Overall album: 7.8/10

Excellent Some weaknesses but some classics.

Litski

super.fucking.catchy. you go sting!

Pleasantly surprised by this. Not entirely the middle of the road fare I've come to expect from this list. What was "mother" all about? Quite fun.

Really surprised me. A huge amount of variety in sound and mood Standouts - synchronicity, every breath you take, king of pain, wrapped around your finger, murder by numbers Mother was awful

Rating: 7/10 Best songs: Synchronicity I, Every breath you take, King of pain

Perhaps this is exactly where The Police story was meant to end. Their most popular release included overt pop songs and experimental works seamlessly. There might have been no where else to go. The pop songs are loaded on side two. Points off for the subpar tracks from Andy Summers and Stewart Copeland.

Hard to believe that the Police made only 5 studio albums, and this last one is almost forty years old. This is an excellent record with a few oddities thrown in. Sting's vocals are turned into excellent harmonies with the overdubbing. Also clearly demonstrates what a great drummer Stewart Copeland was for this band's style. Too bad they hated each other. Would give this a 4.5 if I could.

A very good album with some of my favorite Police songs (Synchronicity II and Murder by Numbers). This album shows how much further musically they could have gone had they not broken up shortly afterwards which is a shame. But it is also possible they left at the top of their game. A couple of terrible songs like “Mother” kept this from being a 5.

Mother sucks but the rest of the album is solid. Like it’s really bad.

Kevin?

I really liked this one! A lot of great classics, my favorites were Synchronicity 1 & 2

This album feels very... Unsettling. Between the lyrics and the instrumentals, many of the songs pass a somewhat creepy vibe, like something is wrong, and nothing highlights this better than the hit "Every Breath You Take", which is famous for the lyrical work in it. But other tracks like "Mother", "Miss Gradenko", and the curiously swing-themed "Murder By Numbers" also are good examples of it. As for standout tracks, I think the opening "Synchronicity I" is deserving of attention, as well as "King of Pain". This was an interesting listen, and a wonderfully cohesive album under an uncomfortable tone.

I can't get away from Sting, he's everywhere. My favorite song from this album is probably every breath you take but I think I also enjoyed o my god. Sting has such a wide vocal range. I like the guitar riffs.

Wow, this one brings back memories of high school! The big hits stand out, and hold up. I'd say it's great, but not masterpiece level.

New wave. Un megahit. Un 4.

-Slick bass riff in "O My God" -"Mother" comes in strong with a crazy, driving Indian-influenced riff -"Every Breath You Take" is the popular tunes off of this one lol. It's good enough -"Tea In The Sahara" has quite a complex drum beat but it is still kinda boring -Dang "Murder By Numbers" honestly sounds pretty happy but the lyrics are quite dark -Couple great tracks, rest are decent enough tracks. I think the album's best songs are "Mother," "O My God," and "Murder By Numbers"

I always think of The Police as pop 'radio hit' band or ska/reggae but I often forget about the middle east fusion with jazz I really enjoy the two last songs - Tea in the Sahara and Murder by numbers. And as I very much like Every breath you take, in the whole album it suddenly doesn't make sense....

I was very young during the 80s but a lot of the music from this time always sparks up nostalgia. Synchronicity is not one of those albums, but that is not a bad thing. When this album was released I was 3 going on 4 so I think that many of the tracks that may have been big at the time or received airplay would have had their popularity waned in the later years when I became a little older. The only track here that I recognized was Every Breathe You Take. Almost 40 years later for me I can appreciate this album more.

I had forgotten just how good this album is, police at their best imho

Enjoyable with the exception of Mother... don't like that one at all.

The band's final and best album, Synchronicity blueprints all the cynicism of the 80s in one artistic statement, focusing on the uniformity driven into us by the tendencies of societal conformity, and how though we may all look alike, we are alienated and dissociated from one another, in some dystopian world where God isn't dead--He's sadistic. And where you have to yell over your Rice Krispies if you expect anyone to pay attention to your bogus suicide attempts.

When this album was released, I dismissed it because I was "Policed-out" and lost interest in the band and wasn't interested too much in the songs or the music videos that accompanied the record. I saw the band during this tour and was impressed how well the songs translated live and they were still at the top of their game as a live band. Reflecting back and listening now, I realize Synchronicity is a solid record (I still prefer their first two albums the most) and it was an appropriate "swansong" for their final album. Sting went on to...yeah, you know what happens...

While I technically did not listen to this, I pretty much know this album back to front, having owned it on cassette and having played it to death when I was much younger. It's a funny little album - it sounds very different from what went before and it leans a little more world music. The lyrics too were pretty out there - I always remember that one song that finishes up with a shadow on the door of a cottage on a Scottish loch and it's about pollution ... or environmental damage... or maybe I just completely didn't get it. I love the title track, Tea in the Sahara and there's another song about some stalkery dude that's pretty good as well.

A production masterpiece that was also a nightmare to complete. This was effectively a swan song for the tumultuous three known as The Police. Egos at odds, but bright ideas brimming at the seems. Pressure truly can make a diamond (see: Fleetwood Mac's Rumours). Is this the Police's Rumours? It certainly feels that way.

Not my favorite, but still solid. A classic

New wave. Un megahit. Un 4.

meenage

Well this album certainly has some of The Police's best and best known songs. The hits are some of the classics from the era. The early part of the album has some strangely dissonant songs that are no where of the quality of the second half particularly the song Mother which sounds like it could be from a Birthday Party album. It sounds soooo out of place on this album that I had to vheck that Tidal hadn't started a random play. The hits are impressive the rest... not so much. 4 🌟

rimelig klasse

Really liked this album. Mother is weird and like Birthday Party. I actually thought the singles stood out as not fitting with the rest

Never really dug into The Police properly before even though I've liked the hits I've heard. This is way weirder than I expected, mostly in a good way. Production is tight and I like the spacy atmosphere. "Mother" is awesomely strange and theatrical. "Every Breath You Take" has always been an earworm. "Synchronicity II" bangs.

The proggiest Police album, with a lot of similarities to 80s-era Rush, plus it has a song about dinosaurs. Has some cool and weird deep cuts, like Walking in Your Footsteps, O My God, and Mother. The title tracks are bangers. Still not into Every Breath You Take though. Boring song.

Muy bueno

What a weird side a of a record. I feel like it doesn't really hit that classic Police sound until Synchronicity II. This isn't a bad thing. You can tell they're branching out their sound which is commendable, if not always...enjoyable. Haven't listened to this album since I was a kid spinning my dad's album on the basement stereo, so this album evokes that nostalgia in me, which is great and probably skews my rating of this album up, but oh well. 4 stars!

A couple duds (especially Mother) but overall it was pretty enjoyable! The title tracks are especially good.

Solid. Sting is from my neck of the woods so may be a little bias. “Every Breath You Take” is a classic and made all the more impressive that it was written in minutes!

Great album, some of the slower stuff is bleh

Good album by the Police, just the song ‘Mother’ was weird and unnecessary for me. Favourite songs: - Every breath you take - Murder by numbers

Listened to the remastered 2003; liked the familiar classics and title song

A really good album. There's a lot of big hits to be found here and frankly I feel they all deserved to be. Mother is a weird song, but I don't hate it. It just doesn't fit and should've been scrapped. I don't think it's quite 5 star level but it is definitely a good listen.

Sparse, urgent tracks propelled along by Copeland’s inspired drumming and Sting’s excellent bass, this doesn’t sound like a band on the verge of breaking up but a band in - well, synchronicity? There’s a compelling groove and mood throughout and, the awful ‘Mother’ aside, a satisfying cohesiveness to these slightly odd and discombobulated narratives. A genuine eighties classic still sounding good today.

Premiere moitié insane, deuxieme moitié plus pop friendly. Perd un peu en intensité mais IL Y A LA CHANSON DU STALKER

What an utterly strange album. When a band has more than one major mainstream hit I tend to assume that their work is pretty conventional across the board. Well, in this case, I stand corrected. This is actually a very bizarre album, particularly the track "Mother". I can't call it my favorite track but it was certainly the most memorable. Fave track? The obvious choice would be I'll Be Watching You but I actually think it's the opening track, Synchronicity I.

The Police sure knew where to end it with this classic record. Filling it to the brim with fun bops around every corner. Not all of it lands for me, but it's still a great listen. Favorites: "Synchronicity II", "King Of Pain", "Murder By Numbers"

All of the hits are in the second half of the album. It was a fun listen.

The album itself is almost a greatest hits package. I haven't listened to Synchronicity top to bottom in ages and as a whole it plays much better than each track individually.

No matter how many times I listen to ‘Mother’ it just sounds out of place in comparison to the rest of ‘Synchronicity’, which is a great, if somewhat ponderous album overall, and the sound of a band approaching breaking point whilst simultaneously becoming the biggest band in the world.

Surprisingly good

Good. Tantric.

Very cool🦟

Every Breath you take!

Includes their all-time greatest hit, but lots of other greats too. I especially liked "Walking in Your Footsteps" and "Synchronicity II"

They's good

Cuando los 80s no apestaban tanto

I enjoyed many of the other tracks more than the hit "every breath you take".

No real complaints. In synchronicity

Knew I loved this band but was not familiar with any of their non-radio hits. 4.5/5

Really awesome. Makes me want to hear more of the Police!

Is it weird that I can hear elements of Spyro in this album? Just goes to show how much of a musical genius Steward Copeland is!

I really like this. The big hits are clearly brilliant (king of pain being my fav), but the other album tracks are top drawer too. Not as much reggae as I expected. Synchronicity I was great. Mother is nuts

Killer singles. Album cuts just ok.

WTF is Mother? Good overall.

This is a pop album?? Complex, challenging and very different from the big single Every Breath You Take.

Awesome album but Mother drags the whole album down 1 star

There's probably a reason why the best The Police album is one of their Best Of - as they produce some stunning pop tunes, and some dirge as this album shows. 2nd half of this album 5/5, 1st half 3/5

Still manages to sound tremendously modern to my ears all these decades on. Despite a few missteps (that inexplicable fade-in on Oh My God) it's about as good as The Police get.

One of my favorite 80s albums for sure.

A really good album covering many styles and genres. It feels like it's sitting on the cusp between punk, prog, pop, rock and reggae. Throw in a bit of jazz influence too. Side two has the hits and the album fizzles out a bit at the end but overall a really solid entry.

I love the space-rock energy of this album. The singles aren't the strongest tracks in my opinion, but the instrumentals on here are pretty great.

Love this album Small pocket of songs in the first half are a bit boring but the rest of the album more than makes up for it

I love the Police, but always find this album incredibly strange. First half is pretty terrible, then all of a sudden Every Breath You Take enters and it gets good.

Fun—lots of funky and dark imagery here, which is not what I had associated with The Police. Murder by Numbers, King of Pain—definitely dark undertone that reinforce my notion that Every Breath You Take is about a stalker. Fun also to see Sting on “Only Murders in the Building” and wondering if there are any jokes related to this album

Every breath you take - единственная песня на слуху, которая отзывается.

Simply great. I will definitelly come back to this album in the future. Mother is the single track that didn't grab me immediatelly because of how different it is but I'll probably like it more with consecutive listening. Everything else on this album is just consistently good.

Got better with each song I played

The beginning and ending of this album is not good at all but the middle is unbelievable. Sometimes it's hard to tell if you like a song or you're just familiar with it, but the 4 songs I knew (Synchronicity II, Every Breath You Take, King of Pain, Wrapped Around Your Finger) are enough to make this a great album. I also liked Miss Gradenko which I don't think I've heard before.

A classic rock great album! I've loved these guys for years so this is not new to me, but even the less popular songs on this one are solid - if a little quirky. Is it "great" all the way through? I don't think so, but it's definitely very good all the way through with a handful of outstanding songs.

4 maybe purely on the strength of every breath you take. Strange to have an album where all the main singles are on the second half.

Most of this record still holds up, but there just a couple duds in my ears. Sting's voice is still one of the greatest ever.

I hadn't remembered that there were all those classic bass lines... great album of my youth.

Though it has some less melodic and more interesting pieces... and there is probably a whole star removed for Mother being here... the album is still great to revisit with multiple exceptional songs... in addition to the bigger hits, I really enjoy Murder by Numbers.

Really like this album. Uplifting, interesting

One of the great albums of the 80's. Timeless, it doesn't age. Great work by the 3 members. King of Pain, Synchronicity II and Murder by Numbers are outstanding; Wrapped Around Your Finger is in another league altogether.

I'd been burnt out by the Police due to hearing their singles way too many times. But damn this is a good album. Such precise drum, bass and guitar work and Sting's voice soars over everything and elevates it all. Great album.

Oh yes The Police

One of my all time favorite albums.

This album was pretty blasé until mother...

i already knew and liked all songs EXCEPT MOTHER wth. they were like lets take a little break then back to normal lolll. quirky kings. synchronicity ii and king of pain and wrapped around your finger are my faves here. love the lyrics. so! its kinda my parents music? like they were huge fans and played their albums a lot. so not something i could have my own connection with. but it does sound great lol..

The first side of this one is, yeah, it's okay. Then the second side hits you over and over again and puts you in a pretty good Police state.

I own this album, but I haven't listened to it in a long time. Some of the more popular tracks have accumulated a little more baggage for me, which keeps this from scoring a 5. I still like this album. I have heard every album from the Police (there are only 5), and Synchronicity is the band at their best. My favorite tracks are "Synchronicity II", "King of Pain", and "Walking in Your Footsteps". The album is oddly dark, but the Police find so many new and different sounds. I would listen to this album again, but if you were in the car with me I would probably skip "Mother" for your sake. I don't think that "Mother" is very far off in it's mood compared to the rest of the odd darkness of this album. ¿Does Andy need some help?

I have never listened to a Police album. I have to say, this is way weirder than I was expecting. Pretty damn good. Would listen again.

Gooder

Really good overall, gets an 8 from me. however Mother is Not Fun to listen to and Tea in the Sahara is just annoying

What a weird and silly album. "Mother" was incredibly disturbing (and they ended it w a gong?), but "Walking in Your Footsteps" was pretty groovy. 8 for me

Very nice album :) I liked the title song in 2 parts, it tied together the album as a unified piece and the change in tone towards more desperation as it progressed was great

7. I liked that one song that talked about dinosaurs and had some christian themes going on. Like, I didn't actually like the song but it was nice to think about dinosaurs

Every Breath You Take" Released: 13 May 1983 "Wrapped Around Your Finger" Released: 8 July 1983 "Synchronicity II" Released: 21 October 1983 "King of Pain" Released: 2 January 1984

One of my favourite bands. This album clearly shows growth in the songwriting of Sting and a more mature production from their other releases. Not the most quintessential Police album but powerful one nevertheless.

Every song on this album was good, some of them pretty great, with one notable exception: "Mother" is God awful.

this is a well put together album. worth it to listen to it all the way through. i thought the songs were upbeat, had compelling lyrics. the police have begun to grow on me

I wore out my vinyl of this back in the day.

Very nice

actually more punk than their famous songs. high 3 / low 4

Excellent. Some of the Police's best singles. 7-8/10

I liked this more than expected. Learned the names of some songs I actually didn't know I knew.

Completely caught off guard by this album which I thoroughly enjoyed. From psychedelic songs like Mother to the classic Every Breath You Take. This is why I appreciate this project. Giving me newfound appreciation for artists that I'm familiar with but never properly listened to.

Only police you can trust

I’ve always enjoyed Sting’s work and his stuff with The Police is great.

It's a great album, one of my favorites. Previously listened during my run-through of the Rolling Stone's Top 500 Albums of All-Time!

My first 'Police' album. Like so many others, I've heard 'Every Breath You Take' countless times, but the rest of this album has plenty to offer. The music is such a unique blend of new wave and alt rock. Well worth a listen.

Classic. Have my Dad’s copy on vinyl and it gets love every now and again.

Interesting album, great opener with some other great 4 star songs, overall a good 4 star album

Mostly great

What a beautiful album! Not quite A or S tier for me yet.

This is some excellent pop music. Sting gets some flak for his "world music" touches, but here it comes across as rather innocent. And many of songs just sound good, which goes a long way in the genre. The singles are great songs, but there's something special about the opener that never quite gets realized.

Definitely more of a singles band, but this album is great. Swings about styles nicely!

I wish I could do half star ratings. Police is classic, great tunes, but a bit too ancient for me to rate any higher

Really strangely enjoyable. Take Mother far away though. I've always thought that The Police were quite an acquired taste and that hasn't changed

Don’t want to say that this is a one-song album. But it’s close.

Ok. Rarely would choose this.

Few good ones, but what were they thinking with mother

It's a police album alright. I liked how it was more diverse than I expected but still sounded like the Police, some punk, some jazz influences. Overall probably I won't come back to it again. Solid 3 stars.

A very chill album that I could definitely put on in the background. I would consider this a 3.5 because it's very close to a 4.

Every move you make is a classic, but nothing really stuck out to me (and I like The Police). Mother! was certainly comedic.

I'd expected a bit more from this one!

Their last effort before imploding, Synchronicity is about half of a really good album. Side one is by far the weaker of the two sides. The playing is really good, but the side is marred by Sting’s (and Andy Summers’, on the one song he composed and sang for this album) less-than-tuneful wailing on several tracks. It doesn’t really get going until the side closer, Synchronicity II, which is a great song. Side two is pretty strong, though seems short at only four non-extended songs. It opens with “Every Breath You Take”, a pretty great ballad as long as you don’t listen too closely to the creepy stalker-y words. This is followed by “King of Pain” and “Wrapped Around Your Finger “, both great songs. The album then closes with “Tea in the Sahara”, which I find to be a weaker song. In summary, almost greatness, but doesn’t quite get there. For me, not as good as Zenyatta Mondatta, which I hope is on this list. 3.5 stars, rounding down.

Day 311 Inoffensive MOR pop music, pleasant enough Highlights Walking in your footsteps Every breath you take

The Police aren't my favorite bands. Sting's delivery is a little grating for me, and the tepid mix of reggae leaves me uninterested. This album has a lot of their hits though, the radio singles are all fine. The album tracks vary from meh to ugh.

Not a huge Police fan, but still a nice album

Spotify

Wel mooi, zit goed in elkaar etc. Heel strak. Maar dit spreekt me niet erg aan

Nowhere near their best for me personally.

Bit of a mixed bag. Enjoyed Synchronicity, King of Pain and Murder By Numbers. Rest of the album is pretty average (with the exception of Every Breath) but Mother is an absolutely ridiculous song that really has no place on this album.

Some sentimental faves.
