Reviews (page 9 of 14)
The second part of the album definately delivers. A hit after hit. There is, however, a slightly creepy vibe of the whole album. Songs like "Mother" and, of course, "Every Breath You Take" just push it further.
synchronicity i- 6 walking in your foot steps- says foot the way you would say food. Isn't it meant to have african influences? 6 o my god- 5 mother- 5 miss gradenko- 5 or 6 synchronicity ii- 5 every breath you take- 8. miss you dahl king of pain- 5 wrapped around your finger- 5 tea in the sahara- 5. i like the bass murder in numbers- 5
This one has a lot of nostalgia for me, since The Police are one of my Dad's favourite bands, but it's not their best. There's a run of great songs starting with Synchronicity II, but up until then it's not great. Walking in Your Footsteps may have been considered profound at the time, but now it just seems trite and childish. Mother is something else altogether!
Mostly good. Good songs and great musicianship. Synchronicity II and Every Breath You Take were the highlights for me. I didn't care for Mother
not bad but idk. slurs into one big mass and i didn't like that too much
Other than the singles from this, I didn't care too much for this. And Mother...........whoooooo boy. That sure was a thing that happened. Yikes.
3/5
I was rather excited when I saw I will listen to this album. After listening, it was both better and worse than I thoguht it would be. It was a good album, had some great songs, also some not as good, goofy ones, but overall it didn't feel like this great full artistic statement, and more like a lump of songs - enjoyable, well-written songs but my point is still there.
What a weird album. Of course this has to be on this everyone had it and there's so many singles. But so weird. And I can't quite figure out why it feels weird. The drummer plays the same driving beat throughout the album and it's turned wayyyy up. The guitarist is stuck in the early 80's which I guess is sort of ahead of its time? And then there's the rest... I can only imagine how much weirder this would be if those parts weren't there? Lyrics are insane and the intros to some of these songs are almost avant garde jazz? I don't know. It's unsettling.
Not bad
There was enough interesting stuff in here to warrant a 3. Some of it is quite unusual, and I enjoyed it. And even though "Every Breath" is played to death, it's still a brilliant track.
Mid
This album is definitely a prog album. It shows that the Police were a bunch of opportunists
Meh, I’ll take it. Won’t be looking for it, time for the Police has gone and went for me.
Not a bad listen. Some songs stood out more than others, and a few were flops (my god and the mother song). Fine album. 3/5
Cooler and weirder than expected. I liked it. Would relisten
Not bad Stings voice is excellent in places
A couple good songs. Otherwise, just so-so.
not sure why this album is on the list, it's not even the the best Police album. sounds dated
I like a couple of the singles but otherwise this is just not my cup of tea
É o disco do The Police. Apesar de não ser tão fã!
The hits are classics, but the album overall is disjointed, and some real, “white guy discovers reggae vibes.”
It was alright
Real nice with some psychedelics bits
Synchronicity 2 is a great song. The rest of this album is pretty mediocre.
It was fine!
was kinda boring, reminded me of fragile by yes
Every Breath You Take is a great tune, though not particularly representative of the album. Some arty spirit in Mother. But they will never be a band for me.
A few good songs.
IS THAT MY MOTHER ON THE PHONE?!
Bra til plankevors
I wanted to like this so much more. It was just okay.
Favorite Track: Wrapped Around Your Finger
I liked this more than I expected to, but I expected to hate it. Mother was very odd song that I never would have guessed was the Police. Synchronicity II and Murder by Numbers were my favorite tracks.
Diverse landscape. Doesn't 'grab' me.
This album is decent, there's some really good songs and a few skips. I don't like "Mother" or "Miss Gradenko" but the rest hits. I really like Sting and this is a good entry from The Police. I thought they had more than five albums, I won't be mad at any of them. 2.65 here.
Take the 4 hits and throw the rest of the album away...particularly "Mother." Would have been great if they had slid "Sychronicity II" onto side B and then flex sealed side A so it could never be played. Maybe Police are only half good, for that this gets 2.5 stars.
Strong finish from The Police. I mean that by saying the last 5 songs on their final album are an example of some of their best work. Unfortunately the first half of the album is mostly skippable, so Synchronicity is a mixed bag. The Police have a wide range in their music. The stuff that works is great, the stuff that doesn't is boring. You get a bit of both here. 2.70 stars
Nochmal anhören, kaum was mitkriegt
Meh
I’ve always loved Sting’s voice, but there’s definitely different vibes to his work in a band versus him as a solo artist. This album was a little all over the place: calm, loving, erratic, screaming? The mother song definitely caught me off guard LOL. I’ve never really been a fan of Ill Be Watching You. This album unfortunately didn’t impress me much.
If there were a perfectly mediocre album of all time award, this one would be nominated
One huge hit "Every Breath You Take", one or two other good songs and the rest just gravitates to the side. Plus, what the fuck is wrong with "Mother"??? Who wrote and sang that song and how does it fit in with the rest of the album, I don't know how to find the smallest common denominator of things. By the way, I read about this album that when it came out, it broke all records for the number of weeks at the top of the charts. In Canada, Adele passed it with 21 almost 30 years later, but in terms of the number of consecutive weeks at the top, Synchronicity still held the record with 24 weeks in a row at number one. In the UK it was at number one for 2 weeks, in the US for 17 consecutive weeks at number one on the Billboard 200, where Michael Jackson's Thriller was previously. Honestly, either I'm not a big fan of Sting, or this is out of date, but I haven't heard anything that would justify these numbers. Oh, and let's not forget - Tea In the Sahara is definitely a precursor to Desert Rose. Before I read the title of the song, only from the sound I said to myself - here's Sting's inspiration for Desert Rose!
Wasn’t for me, but not a bad album overall.
The lyrics are a bit weird in some songs
A bit up and down in terms of quality song to song, but generally a good time. Couple of classic tunes.
Hmm, it has some standout tracks but overall it's just okay. A tad overrated I feel.
Didn’t like some of the opening songs but definitely grew on me
I like this album more than I remember. Still, I wish more songs sounded less like ‘Every Breath You Take’ and more like ‘Mother.’ Maybe I’m just a freak.
I liked this, first song was great
Some gems, but a curate’s egg.
Not bad but not really interesting either.
Good album, have it on vinyl
Good album, but lacks cohesion. Album has some great songs!
N.W.A. really hated these guys.
Not bad, not monumental
The Police are a mediocre band, and this album is no exception. Their final album is just a typical Police album("Mother" ruined the synchronicity though). Favorite Song: "Every Breath You Take".
Overall pretty enjoyable. Couple of sucky songs but hard to find albums without sometimes.
Synchronicity is just an incredibly bizarre album. The sheer 80sness of this album really shines through in nearly every song and makes every song feel like an incredibly bizarre trip. Despite all the quirkiness (actually due to it kinda) I enjoyed this album quite a fair bit. The weird electronic sounds and the vocals really kept the album interesting throughout it's whole runtime and even the weird lyrics helped as well. It is things like this that make this album better than the last album by The Police that i did. This album is just significantly more interesting and had much more memorable tunes than Reggatta De Blanc did. This album is a pretty solid listen. Best Song: Every Breath You Take Worst Song: Mother
It’s fine - there are a couple of pretty good songs on here, which makes it worthwhile. However there is something about it, that I miss, apparantly
7 Слушал версию 2024 года, куда вошел не только альбом, но ещё и различные демо,акустические и лайв версии композиций. Рекомендую слушать обычную, чтобы не сойти с ума от количества, однако старт не худший
Some solid tracks. Some awful ones (what the fuck song Mother?)
The Police are definitely a dividing band - mostly down to the Sting thing. However this is mostly outweighed by the sheer magnetude of Stewart Copeland's drumming. The early albums I like. Sounds like a band rather than a Sting record. Let's be fair too, he has made some banging solo records but that's not why we are here. We are here for a Police record. I think this sounds more like a band losing their collective way. Was a four at time of listening but fell to a 3.5 by time of writing.
2.80
some rlly good songs
the singles are good, but the rest left me cold
'rock band goes experimental and adds more textures to their music' is a trope that has existed since rubber soul, and its one ill always applaud. mother sucks tho drums sound very 80s, too much reverb
Strange album that I liked more on a second listen. The two Synchronicity tracks were pretty good, and Every Breath You Take is good but overplayed.
Liked some songs. Didn't know that it had such different songs on one album.
Fajne, ambitne popy
Good album, pretty middle of the road as far as my tastes go. The more you listen to the track “Mother” the more you learn to like it.
I have always had mixed feelings about the Police, and listening to this album didn’t clear anything up for me. I liked about half of the songs (for the most part, the hits) and didn’t care much for the others. I don’t know what the song “Mother” was doing on the album. In spite of the creepy lyrics, I have always liked “Every Breath You Take” a whole lot. This album is a 3 for me, I guess.
Really fun pop rock but I've never been a huge fan of the Police. Fun though
There’s a song about a brontosaurus / nuclear war.
murder by numbers is excellent
police init ,theres better albums by them
I now understand why Kevin's band is called Scrantonicity
A few decent songs. Tad weird at times. Didn't hate it. Didn't love it
Too much reverb on the vocals. Or is it echo? But Murder by Numbers is a good one! 3/5 overall I guess. ACAB
The second half was a five
Only liked 2 songs - every breathe you take -murder by numbers, which has been one of my fav songs before even listening to to album Everything else not memorable or sounded jarring
Not the best album in the world, but still ok. Wouldn't listen this by my own. Glad that it sounds good and Sting can sing. Over and out.
Looking back it's hard to hear the melding of styles this album has been lauded for. All I hear is the pop and reggae, on occasion punkish, elements combined in a perfectly tasteful way. It does not tick the "new wave" nor "post-punk" boxes for me, even tho I'm being told by lots of reliable sources that this is, or was, the case. As far as rhythmic and musical gimmicks go, I couldn't say. I know there are such things on this records that are held in high regard, especially on Copelands part, but since I do not recognize where and what they are... It is a pleasant pop album for me, nothing spectacular, but it is also worryingly close to the '80's music video overdose' issue I am suffering from.
Album #11 - 3/5 "Mother" was really shoehorned in there, huh? That one deserves a skip. Everything else was good enough. Really enjoyed the album namesakes, "Synchronicity," & "Synchronicity II," as well as "King of Pain," I could see myself revisiting this album while doing a lyrics read along. Lots of intriguing lyrics! The musicality feels a little repetitive - it all just kind of sounds like... The Police. I would be perfectly happy to never hear "Every Breath You Take," ever again.
synchronicity II is great, every breath you take is pretty good and theres some more music on the album and its pretty alright
is this on here because it’s actually good? or because it’s the police?
Pretty good, for the most part
Not very memorable.
Decent and an easy listen.
Diverse style in first few songs before The Police sound I knew of. All time great song Every Breath You Take but only 'O My God' did I also want to add to my library.
This is a good, musically diverse album that I'm just not into. My best friend growing up loves The Police and I couldn't really get into them growing up, and I can't really get into them now even that I'm grown. I think I just am looking for a different type of emotionality than what they offer.
This was a nice album but I wasn't a big fan of the vocals on a lot of the songs.
It's pretty decent rock. It's no Reggatta De Blanc, but it'll do. As usual, Copeland's drumming is the star, but Sting's way with words is commendable as well.
Pretty big delta between the good songs and bad songs. If the whole album was as good as the second half, thisbqould be an easy 4, but as is, it's only a strong 3.
A few hits, some of which hold up (Synchronicity II, Wrapped Around Your Finger) & some of which are terribly overplayed (Every Breath You Take) - but a surprising amount of mediocre filler. + one crazy, Portnoy's Complaint themed punk song (Mother), which I might have liked best for being so goddamn weird.
Every Breath You Take saves it from being a 2
...
3.4 1x some great tracks but overall not amazing
Tea in the Sahara es hermosa.
The first half is a let down, the second half is amazing
This album started strong for me and got a little repetitive towards the end. Stuart Copeland is on fire for Jesus all throughout the album though. He is killing it on Synchronicity II. Sting's voice also sounds amazing throughout the whole album. Some of the songs sound as though he was pushed to the upper limits of his range. This album really displayed the ability of the Police to mix it up with time signatures and different timing feels. I haven't listened to many Police albums,.I am familiar with the hits. After this I'm definitely going to have to go back and check out more albums.
Mysterious
There's a trio of popular songs on here that make this album great. The rest are let downs IMO.
Boah, weiß nich digga, weiß nich..... Ersten Songs grausam, aber die zweite Hälfte deutlich besser mit "Every breath you take"
Ganz ok.
Erste Hälfte nicht gut, zweite war besser. Wzf war "Mother"? Schlechter als das vorherige Police Album Songs der Playlist hinzugefügt: Keine
Enjoyed it more than I thought I would.
Some weird songs on this one
Enjoyable
persoonlijk vind ik dit hun zwakste album met te veel ballades... zwakste van de Police is nog altijd beter dan eender welk rap album, dus dat valt nog mee... mother blijft mijn favoriet, als vreemdste eend in hun discografie
Amazing at times and also bizarre and unsettling.
Nice, was quite good
carried by the one hit
The stalker song was alright
I think this is a rather disappointing album. Don´t get me wrong, it is a good album, but I think it doesn´t quite live up to its reputation as the definitive Police album (and as a definitive 80s album). It has a great latter half, though.
First half was kind of scattered and the songs never really got going for me. The second half was pretty great with really unique sounding songs.
I have never listened to an entire Police album and the beginning of this album was not what I was expecting at all! Mother...ummm seems like YOU have some issues and need to work through those. Synchronicity II started what I expected from this album. Overall the beginning of the album was a little more synthesizer then I expected. It really felt like two albums (songs 1-5 and songs 6-11). I did not like the first half, but enjoyed the second half for the most part. Tea in the Sahara was a little too slow for me.
Not bad overall. "Mother" and Every Breath You Take" (and maybe also the dinosaur song?) feel kind of incongruous with the rest of the album, for different reasons, although I like those tracks.
4 good songs, the rest was crap.
you just know he suggested calling it "stingchronicity" at least once. andy's always been the star member for me, and he's got some cool guitar parts here. some fun synth across the board. "mother" is great and makes me wish the guys had let themselves had a bit more fun sometimes.
Probably not the best album by The Police, but some solid tunes. Mother is pretty god-awful. Favourite tracks: Synchronicity I, Synchronicity II, Every Breath You Take, King Of Pain, Murder By Numbers.
The Police are one of those bands you don’t really think about, but definitely should be! I swear the album gets better the more I listen to it, and I’ll be adding it to my regular rotation (this album anyways). Looking forward to discovering more through this challenge. Listen again: yes Purchase for my collection: yes Favourite Song: oh my god
The Police aren't really my cup of tea outside a few songs. On this album the only such song is "Every Breath You Take". The rest isn't bad per se, just doesn't really do it for me
Starting to feel convinced that this group is a psyop to bury a single incredible song in an album where every other song is some stupid bullshit sung by a white dude in a reggae falsetto. Luckily for me, my tolerance for stupid bullshit is strong enough that I was able to enjoy some of this. That being said. I was almost ready to let that stupid 'Mother' song tank my rating for this album holy shit what the fuck happened there? Without it I would be comfortable giving this album a light 4, but its inclusion really has me considering giving this a 2. Regatta De Blanc didn't have anything this bad on it but I did prefer some of the chaff, non-hit songs on this a little more so I think it evens out to the same rating for me, how damning that the biggest Police apologist in my group is only willing to give this a 3. Highlights: Every Breath You Take, Synchronicity II, O My God, Wrapped Around Your Finger, Mother (NOT IN A GOOD WAY)
This album is right up my alley Genre wise but failed to stick the landing on enough songs to thoughly impress me 6/10 Fav tracks - camping next to water, a other Pearl Least fav - none really
A very odd little album for something that apparently was such a big hit. Listening to it I think mainly of Talking Heads, as it has a similar sense of paranoia, but it sounds much lighter and softer than them and I’m not certain that works. There are some boring moments and some bizarre turns (Mother??), but the good songs are really good. So it’s hard for me to get a handle on. Best song: Synchronicity II
Хороший ньювэйв альбом. Как и А-ха вчера, главный хит есть главный хит по причине, но это отнюдь не набитый филером сингл. Лучшая песня - Every Breath You Take.
I don't get why the police is such a massive band
Not the best Police...earlier stuff is slightly more compelling for me. Still solid. 3.5/5
Está bien, supongo. Algunas canciones muy padres pero las que no son tan buenas me dan mucha flojera.
3 - Basically had one good song
I enjoyed! 3.5/5 Standout tracks (good): - Synchronicity 4/5 - Synchronicity II (3.5/5) - Tea in the Sahara (3.5/5) - Every breath you take (absolute banger of course) 4/5 Standout tracks (bad): - Mother 1/5 IT'S SO SCARY
Three great songs one after the other and the rest average
An album of two halves. 1 good, 1 not so much.
Another I want to like more than I do. It's good but not my jam. I typically like everything that it's doing quite a bit but The Police just never quite land for me. No complaints, just not getting me too excited. 3/5
I don't know enough of the Police discography to know what songs are on what albums but there is no way this is their best one. There are a lot of good songs on here (both Synchronicity tracks, and basically the back half of the album) but the first half kinda lets it down, culminating with "Mother" which is just hard to listen to. Sting's "desperation" voice is like a shit version of David Byrne with none of the charm. Reading the wiki reveals that the song, along with "Miss Gradenko" which is also kinda bad, weren't written by Sting, and it shows. The back half though, wow. Everyone's heard "Every Breath You Take" a trillion times, but it is a fundamentally good song, so I'll gloss over that. Synchronicity II is the kind of song that makes you realize how talented the Police are at playing their instruments. While it's not quite the basslines that Sting came up with earlier, it's still great, the drumming is mega crisp and the guitars and keys are present without being overpowering in the way the classic reggae inspired Police songs have always been. King of Pain is the same way. Murder By Numbers is a bit of a letdown after the interesting arrangements in "Tea In The Sahara" as it's a bit bland, but still a good song and very much in that Police style. I guess this is supposed to be their best album but I think I like the older style a bit more now that I've researched what songs are on what. A couple of absolute bangers doesn’t save the whole thing though.
Stuart Copeland remains one of my favorite drummers. The middle of the album contains all the A-sides that were massive hits but the first four tracks are so different. Has some African beats mixed in. Definitely takes me back.
Interesting experience! There were parts I felt like I just had to get through, other parts I liked (the classics, namely) but none that I loved - hence the 3.
80s music your parents would listen to in the 90s. neat
3 - What an odd album. The hits are strong and I still like them, and there's some interesting variety on here. Some tracks miss, but it at least makes it more interesting to listen to.
This is a 4 on production and instrumentation. Let's ignore Mother. Lyrically at times not so good. Murder by Numbers, come on do better. Sting's voice isn't offensive sonically but some of his choices using his instrument don't quite work The ingredients are all here. The album as a package could be tightened up. I wan't to give this a 3 point 6.
Title tracks banged. Too much pop influence for my taste but there's some good stuff here.
It's well made and interesting music but I can't help but think that Sting and the gang take themselves way too seriously.
Chaotic as hell. It feels like this is being pulled in 4 directions creatively and is barely holding on by the seams. There's plenty of interesting pieces within, but no cohesiveness to lift up any common idea above the creative chaos.
There’s no denying that The Police pushed boundaries here, but some songs just don’t land for me. ‘Mother’ for example, feels chaotic and throws off the vibe. It’s like the album can’t quite decide what it wants to be, and there are three different versions of the band playing. However, I appreciate the experimentation, and there are definitely moments worth revisiting.
I can't do multiple days in a row of the Police. Please make it stop. It's a fine album, I'm just not on-board.
80’s new wave isn’t my favorite genre but this is pretty good
I can believe those who say this is their favorite album, but outside of a couple tracks on this record I'm not as convinced. Just not my thing I guess.
This was unique and enjoyable, 3 stars
ok i thought i was listening to sting not freud!! wtf was that on track 4?? synchronicity I and II + second half are p great tho. would rate 3.5 if i could do half stars
I thought it was pretty aight. I wasn't jiving as much with the last quarter of the album when it started to slow down but the rest was a bop. Mother was also a bit of a disconnect from the rest of the album for me.
The first half of the album is better than the second. There was some good, weird, experimental stuff I wasn't expecting having only ever really heard Message in a Bottle before.
This is an odd CD, because the back half is way, way stronger than the front half. I actually don't care for "Every Breath You Take" that much, I think it's kind of slow and dull, but there's no denying it was a hit. And a number of the other songs on side 2, especially the title track II, "King of Pain" and "Wrapped Around Your Finger", are just great pop music. And "Murder By Numbers" is extremely clever with it's complex rhythms, it's songs like these that give Copeland his reputation. The first side is really a slog though. Personally, I like a strong finish better than a hot start, but ideally you have both.
Just didn’t click with me. Liked the big hits but the album felt too scatterbrained… Mother is awful. The song about dinosaurs is corny AF. I enjoyed it overall but not more than a high 3* for me. 3.5/5
I found this to be more rock and less on the new-wave side, which I liked. I'd never heard Synchronicity in full before and I quite enjoyed the newly-discovered album tracks, of which Synchronicity II was my favourite. I appreciated this album more than I did Reggatta De Blanc. I'll still score it a 3 but it's on the higher side.
I like
A very mixed bag, going from really quite good (Synchronicity II) to really quite lacklustre (Walking In Your Footsteps) to whatever Mother is. In the end, what keeps irking me is the fact that this album sounds like a compilation where the songs were never really intended to be played back-to-back.
I don't love it and i don't hate it, its there. And maybe some day I'll pick it back up and like it a lot more and judge present self. Obviously every breathe you take is a masterpiece, but its overplayed.
I'm not so convinced by this album. It's The Police, ok. But in my opinion not one of their best.
Was ok
Loved the second half!
More hits than I thought.
Second half was great.
Beyond the obvious songs, I don’t particularly enjoy this. Maybe I wasn’t in the mood.
Ok. Not my vibe but something for the 1983 release
More surprise songs on here than expected (I knew the tunes but never the names). A solid listen through.
3/5 My two favorite songs were both synchronicity songs, O my god was also good.
Mostly a pretty fun album. "Mother" sucksssss.
I only knew the Police from their overplayed radio hits and had judged them as an over hyped white boy reggae act from that. There's a lot less reggae style in this album than I was expecting, which is a good thing. Some tracks were decent, most were forgettable, and then there was mother which sounded like a completely different band. After listening through a couple of times my opinion remains that this is an over rated band.
Every Breath You Take kinda sticks out like a sore thumb as the least shrouded in the world beat/80s grocery store music sound. And also prob the best song on the album. Sting is annoying as well, not my favorite :/
Love Every Breath You Take, written for Sting’s first wife.
Surprisingly, I did not like this as much as I thought... Experimental and weird at times, a bit much for me. Maybe multiple listenings will help but for now it is ok.
Liked it more then I thought I would
Definitely not as good as the first 2 albums but few good songs on this still go hard. Like Mother is some of the worst shit and is somehow trying to rip off The Wall.
I liked this album more than I thought I would. Every breath you take was a nice surprise. I did like some of the melodies throughout as well. Solid 3.
With Every Breath You Take, King Of Pain, and Wrapped Around Your Finger this album might have the best three track run of soft rock/synth pop in the 80s. The only thing is getting to it felt like a slog at times and Mother is incredibly strange and out of place.
Ugh... I want to give this a 3.5. I don't think this album is deserving of a 4. I wasn't crazy about its sound, and most of the songs I wanted to skip. There were a couple that I did enjoy. "King of Pain" and "Wrapped Around Your Finger". The big standout though is obviously "Every Breath You Take". It's a standout both in its popularity and its sound. It almost feels out of place. Is it enough to bump it to a 4? I guess we'll see tomorrow morning.
could i write poetry to this? n
From Synchronicity II through Wrapped Around is a great run of songs. The rest I can do without.
Sting van de zomer nog live gezien! Toen alle police hitjes weer ff gehoord Die staan helaas niet bepaald op dit album, ook every breath you take blijft meh (en creepy) Maarja police verder altijd wel ok
Some songs different than expected
Rock, Pop, 1983 -> 3
Not my favorite Police album (Reggatta de blanc would be that), but everything good about The Police is here. The B side in particular is pretty great. Every Breath You Take and King of Pain is a crazy one-two punch. I do think Mother is a bit underrated/overhated. One of the more eccentric cuts. Also, The bonus track Murder by Numbers straight up sounds like a Jamiroquai song before Jamiroquai was a thing. It's uncanny.
A couple standout tracks. It picks up in the second half, but not enough to draw you back in
Good enough, but it mostly ain't my vibe. 100% I first heard "Walking in Your Footsteps" as "Walking in Your Food Stamps." "Every Breath You Take" is, of course, a fun creepy classic.
2 billion streams on a song about a stalker kinda crazy weirdly enjoyed this though
Not bad but lots of whiny songs
While there are some great songs on this album, I feel the album as a whole isn't the best.
A few good songs but a lot of average ones.
Extremely uneven song quality even though the sound and production is all very cohesive and totally distinctive - they're eclectic in their influences but nobody sounds like them really. One of the ultimate greatest hits vs albums bands. Wrapped around your finger is bizarre song for an all time great pop hit, I'll be watching you is a creepy masterpiece about creepiness, synchronicity II has an incredible new wave riff and a wildly catchy hook. The rest is more sprawling and experimental, but not always successfully so.
They would have loved the "mother" slang
He has such an oldies radio voice. I do like it but when he can never escape yacht rock even when he’s being freaky on this album. Why did he make the song mother. Also why did they name themselves the police. You can tell they were on drugs. How are you gonna name yourself the police and then make a song incriminating yourself for your stalker tendencies
A flagship Police Album
Ok
More funky than expected, but there were some pretty lame songs in it
Mother knows best
3/5
I'm a bit torn on this one. There are some songs I love (King of Pain, Wrapped Around Your Finger, O My God), but others I really don't care for (Synchronicity, Mother). There's also some that I can't decide whether I like or not (Murder by Numbers, Walking in Your Footsteps). Honestly don't think I've ever been so divided on a song-by-song basis for an album before.
Good album. Knew a number of songs already
I'm not a great fan of Sting's solo work and this album feels at least 50% made up of songs that sound almost identical to Sting's solo work. There were a few more interesting parts, but mainly this was quite dull.
A classic, but the songs are pretty hit or miss for me. Still a good album all in all, but I don’t love
Hit and miss album. I miss the punk. 3 stars
Not terrible
Synchronicity I & II and O My God are my favorite tracks on the album. It's pretty good with nice riffs throughout it. Not a fan of some of the slower songs like Walking in Your Footsteps but overall its good.
3.5 good
3/5
Enjoyed it for the most part but a few tracks just felt so out of place. Mother is an absolutely fucking insane track. Every breathe you take is obviously a belter, if not a bit creepy, but doesn’t fit in with the rest of the album imo.
Goes great, and then you reach Mother, and then…yeah.
The Police are stuck in this Limbo where they aren't exactly awful, but they also don't stand-out. There's nothing here that I fell in love with, but just like the last record I reviewed there's nothing that I despised. It's just alright.
Something of a mixed bag. The good parts are really good, but the bad parts aren't very good. Lyrics are very ehh. Walking In Your Footsteps is a PBS kids type song. Highlights were Synchronicity I & II, Every Breath You Take, and King Of Pain.
Solid album that is easy to listen to. Sting has a really unique voice that definitely is on display. Every Breath You Take is a classic. I would have given this album a 4 but I can't let the song Mother go unpunished. It doesn't fit with the rest of the album and has none of the charm the rest of the songs have.
ugh. ok, fine, sting is an amazing musician with incredible talent. fine, stewart copeland too. i'm still never gonna love the police, heretical as that statement may be. the big hits on this album do stand up fairly well, which is great...but i still don't care for them.
A true 3. Finally found one. Anyways. Lyric writing is crazy good on this album which I was surprised by, just think it’s underrated. Sting’s voice is obviously so damn good, and there are some real heaters in the second half of this album.
Yikes to some of these. 3.
A really inconsistent album. Sure, there's The Song That Everyone Knows®, but then there's also that Mother song, which... really killed my enjoyment of the album. Favorite track: probably the second "Sync" track.
Slower and weirder to get going than I would’ve thought (didn’t see “Mother” coming). Looking at the track list I thought I only knew “every breath you take” but the 4 song run from “synchronicity II” to “wrapped around your finger” is pretty good and all familiar. I probably won’t be playing this all weekend but I enjoyed the first listen.
3.4 Stings arrogance seems to seep through in the vocals, but I guess when you write hit songs you can come across any way you damn well please. Back half of the album was better than the front
pretty ok. some ups and downs. don't feel the need to relisten
Weak start. But synchronicity II, every breath you take, king if pain and wrapped around your finger are good songs!
Synchronicity II was my jam on this one. Pretty good
Decent
The hits are good, but there’s a lot of filler. (And “Mother,” which is just awful.
Good 80’s but also some weird songs.. repetitive tendencies
I can't believe famous Dune (1984) actor Sting makes music! I like most of the grooves, however Mother is atrocious and takes this album down a lot.
Every breath you take ist schon eines der langweiligsten Stücke der Welt, aber es gab ja auch Nettes auf der Platte.
I quite like this. Just love the vibes
The stripped down final album from The Police. 'Every Breath You Take' is far and away the most famous song here, but I actually think it's one of the weaker songs (and the lyrics are pretty creepy but people have collectively chosen to ignore that). 'Synchonicity II' and 'King of Pain' are both a lot stronger and highlightsfor me. A note about 'Mother': I enjoy the occasional experimental number as much as the next guy, but The Police just aren't the kind of band that can pull it off. Overall, I didn't enjoy this as much as 'Reggatta De Blanc' but I still see the appeal of the band.
I was really unappreciative of this one before a thorough listen. Much better this time around. 3.5/5
The A-side is the stronger of the two but definitely not perfect by any means. "Walking In Your Footsteps" right after the high energy opener "Synchronicity I" makes no sense. I also didn't think "Mother" was as bad as some try to make it seem, but it really feels out of place in this album. The B-side begins with "Every Breath You Take" which has been so overplayed to the point that it's kind of annoying to listen to (but not that bad, it is a classic after all). The rest of the B-side, sans "King Of Pain" which is a great Pop Rock track, fall a little flat. Good, but uneven record.
Not my favorite but okay with a couple of known ones.
This album is incredibly polarizing for me. On one hand, they were clearly going for a more experimental and different A side. Which I respect, but unfortunately doesn't land for me at all. The B side is much more accessible and overall better, but I still think the songs can be hit or miss. Overall a good album with lots of musical diversity, that just unfortunately didn't resonate with me as much as I thought it would. Top tracks: Synchronicity II, Every Breath You Take, Tea in the Sahara
A band at the height of their powers.
Album of 2 halves. Second half is awesome. First half didnt grab me so much. Overall a 3
Decent.
Hvad synger Sting nu (på hele pladen)? Ingen ide!!
Only 2 first The Police albums are great. This one is not
Some songs I’d never heard I really liked. King of Pain and Murder by Numbers. Mother was weird.
The last album for The Police, Synchronicity, reflects the internal divisions of the band at the time. There are some true classic songs here (Synchronicity I & II, King of Pain, Wrapped Around Your Finger) and some incredible dogs (Mother, Oh My God). and some obvious filler. Even the biggest hit from the album, Every Breath You Take, has not aged well, sounding dull and creepy instead of intense and scary. As someone who has had this album since 1983 (and got to see them on their last major tour at Shea Stadium in NYC), the best way to listen to this album is on a streaming service where you can edit out the worst crap and focus on the best stuff. Seriously, edit out Mother. It's terrible. I can't imagine what excuse the band has for that song and I know they didn't play it in concert.
I know some people love this album, and it’s fine. I hate to repeat reviews of other albums, but I find this one kind of boring. It’s not bad just doesn’t do much to excite me.
Ok. I know this is well regarded. I am a fan of steward Copeland, but through Oysterhead. I am not a fan of sting. Let’s go! 1) gets repetitive 2) ooh atmospheric drums. Oh it’s about dinosaurs. Ok. And now Sting is shrieking. 3) fade in? Those aren’t common for a reason. Sting’s voice upper registers is painful to me. 4) 7/8 time. A bit different. Spoken (tortured) vocals about his mother. Ok 5) first one I’m enjoying, kinda stereotypical police sound 6) yeah that sound. This is a good hit. 7) and an absolute classic. Sting should sing and not shriek 8) never knew the name of this one. Also got airplay. 9) finger also I’ve heard. Pleasant 10) pleasant Better than expected. Sting should keep the vocals managable. Musically and production top notch. 3 star, 4 without vocals
love how the music sounds but still fell short. every breath you take is the only real stand out 6/10
It aight. Some songs were good but most were mid. 6/10
Overall dissapointed. I like every breath you take a lot, there’s a few other good songs but like as a whole not a fan. Prolly like as an album a 2 but every breath you take is a high 4 and then there were a few songs that were solid.
6/10 - Mother was such a strange and weird song that I do not want to listen to again. Also the drum kind of feels like a heartbeat which was sick but the song was bad. The rest of the album was pretty decent and Every Breath you Take, king of pain and wrapped around your finger were all very good. It would be a 7 without Mother
Every breath you take is really good but the rest of the album is super mid
Just alright. Somewhat underwhelming. A couple good ones on here.
Surprisingly mid. There were a couple of songs I really liked tho
It’s alright but mother is awful
Decent enough, good bass and drums.
It was just ok
Smooth eighties, verging on some smooth jazz, but then low guitar that signals a harder edge on the back end. Worth another listen.
First full Police album. It's different and not at all what I thought they would sound like based on their greatest hits. Mother was weird. 3* Highlights: every breath you take, synchronicity 2
this album was hit-or-miss for me. i liked synchronicity, o my god, miss gradenko, synchronicity ii, every breath you take (who doesn't know this one already? it's a good song but not a favorite). king of pain and wrapped around your finger were alright. i didn't care for mother even though the lyrics are cool (it's hard to listen to). i feel like i have to be in a specific mood to enjoy The Police because the vocals in some of their songs can irritate me sometimes. not a bad album at all, but not my favorite. added some songs to my library.
This one is fascinating to me, because a lot of it is really abstract, like Mother, and the two Synchronicity songs, however there are also big hits here like Every Breath you Take. I wonder how people felt buying this album and it being such a roller coaster.
Synchronicity is one of those ubiquitous albums from the 1980s (like The Joshua Tree) that became so overexposed in the ensuing years that it's difficult to contextualize how groundbreaking it was. Half of these songs are still being crammed down our ears on a daily basis via FM radio. 40-years after-the-fact, it's tough to muster the enthusiasm to give the album a fresh listen. Indeed, I want to give this album a 2-star rating, just out of spite. To their credit, they really did select the best tracks as singles. Synchronicity II is still thrilling. King of Pain and Wrapped Around Your Finger are fine. Every Breath You Take gets nearly as much airplay as radio static (and is just as easy to ignore). And that's also a fair enough metaphor for Synchronicity as a whole. I know this is 1001 albums to hear before you die. But this is one album I feel like I've already heard 1001 times.
This is fine. Not a huge fan of The Police
mother removed 2 stars
Nobody sounded like The Police. Nobody will sound like The Police again. Listening back to this, it seems obvious that this is their last album. I love bands that did it at a high level for their entire career span and then just stop.
Reggae pop mixed with new wave, cool grooves. Highlights: "Walking in Your Footsteps" (cool Peter Gabriel-esque vibe), "O My God" (I like the sax playing and the swing of the rhythm section), "Synchronicity II" (vocal phrasing sounds a bit like Men at Work), "Every Breath You Take" (a classic), "King of Pain" (cool minimalist vibe to start then the band kicks in), "Wrapped Around Your Finger" (real reggae vibes on the guitar and vocals on this one) Notable: "Mother" (is this a piss take on goth??)
3.5 Honestly not that bad. Has a lot of nice pop hits, but “Mother” is literally one of the worst songs I’ve heard in my life so taking off a lot for that!!
Had a couple of good songs but overall not great - listen to their earlier stuff imo
An interesting album that has the attitude of a prog record but can't seem to escape itself. A solid album for fans of this type of new wave.
I love Sting, but Im not a fan of The Police. Yes, Every Breath You Take is awesome.
A decent album Top tracks: Every Breath You Take, Murder By Numbers
First concert I’ve been too, fondly remember (though didn’t care for at the time). Musics not bad, but in my opinion you either like em or don’t, the more gentle rock works sometimes and other sounds a bit pop-y. 3.0
Came away not really liking this album much. I've never been the biggest Police fan but won't argue they're a bad band, they have produced hugely influential and timeless songs. I'll stick to their hits though, the songs in between on this album felt meh. Their music feels more like pop than rock to me, an odd cognitive dissonance that I think is part of the reason I don't get them. Shout out to 'Mother' for being straight trash.
.No too exciting. Every Breath You Take was a clear banger, and Mother was, well, interesting.
The second half of the album seems far more well put and coherent than the first. The first half sounded like a mishmash of sounds. And Mother, let's not go there.
More enjoyable than I expected from an album with only one big hit.
Never been a fan of Sting or The Police. At best this is just ok.
Love the first song, really fast and upbeat ‘Walking in your footsteps’ lyrics felt a bit like a children’s educational song (this wasn’t necessarily a bad thing!) ‘Mother’ has a good sense of humour The album definitely slows towards to end although the last song ‘Murder by Numbers’ is great.
Mood: delightful Setting: biking on a beautiful day to the climbing gym then climbing For some reason, I thought The Police were a lot more punk and was excited for that. Maybe it was more groundbreaking in it's day, but nothing really stood out to me about them. Overall, decent, wish they were a little grimier.
I like The Police, and there are some hits on here, but it didn't really grab me. Very 80's, some cool sounds, but that's about it.
Walking in Your Footsteps is a funny song. It bemoans the hubris of the dinosaurs and asks if there are lessons to be learned from their death. "Hey mighty Brontosaurus, don't you have a lesson for us." He does indeed Sting, and it's that we're fucked. The rest of the album didn't really stand out. I liked Every Breath You Take and King of Pain. I'm not the biggest fan of the classic 80s rock sound, and this album is certainly that. I'd probably never listen to it again. 5/10
2.5 rounded up
I never fully understood the appeal of The Police. There are some bops tho!
3.5 stars. This is a mixed bag for me. "Every Breath You Take" has gotta be one of the most overrated songs (3rd-most streamed 20th century song on Spotify? Really?). But there's some great stuff too. Standout is the underrated leadoff title track. "King Of Pain" enjoyable as well.
Not my favorite stuff from them. Mother is an immediate skip.
Стинг хороший парень, но мне у него всегда на сольных альбомах не хватало целостности. Вот послушал его группу - и ощущения те же. 2 половина гуд, а 1 не оч
More musically interesting than lyrically.
Every Breath You Take would be the perfect album closer so I'm not sure why it's in the middle of the album surrounded by mediocre songs
A-puolelle 2 tähteä, vahvalle jälkipuolikkaalle kolmepuol.
I enjoyed it but it didn't blow me away
ACAB
I have listened to this album before but I really did not remember it and I’m not going to lie it is not what I expected exactly. That wasn’t exactly a good thing either I was expecting the a few more impressive songs then I heard. I mean it has one of the best and most popular songs from the 80’s on it and previously some super songs but they almost felt like they were trying to be what other bands at the time were. None of it really made sense, everything just sounded like it was made separately and chucked together. The actual ideas are cool different time signatures are nice to listen to but the songs often fell flat to me. It is still a really good era and sound but from what I expected I was not hugely impressed. If it wasn’t for a really good middle section it would be lower but I can’t give it less then a 3. Stand Out Songs: Synchronicity II Every Breath You Take King of Pain
Not as good as they think it is, but still pretty decent. Overly long, oddly very prog (by 80s standards at least), a few good songs and a whole heap of filler. The most famous song is probably one of the most misunderstood stalker anthems ever.
This record is kind of a peculiar case of the tracklist being backloaded rather than frontloaded, as of lot of the first half, with the exception of the opening track, is filled with some rather cheesy lyrical content (e.g. Walking in Your Footsteps) and some rather interesting tracks like Mother (featuring some of the strangest vocal performances I've heard from Sting) for better or worse. Hopefully it feels a lot more focused in the second half and also features The Police's most well-known (and justifiably so) track.
Synchronicity I - 3.5 Walking In Your Footsteps - 4 O My God - 3 Mother - 2 Miss Gradenko - 4 Synchronicity II - 4 Every Breath You Take - 5 King Of Pain - 4.5 Wrapped Around Your Finger - 4 Tea In The Sahara - 4 Murder By Numbers - 3 Average - 3.72 Probably the best Album from The Police but still has some duds (and mother)
allt i lagi sma boring samt
Solid album.
The hits are good. But the rest of this one really doesn't do it for me, I find it kinda boring. I would like to see Kevin Malone cover "Mother" with Scrantonicity II. WTF is up with that one?
police er alltaf vibes
My standout tracks were Mother and Synchronicity II. After Every Breath You Take I got a bit bored but generally decent album.
Not as strong an album as I remembered from the eighties. Has its hits, but also some misses. Mother was just awful.
Already listened before. Fun album, not the best work by the police but it has a nice vibe. No bad tracks but not many standouts either.
