Elvis Is Back

While there are not hits on it this album helps to show us why Elvis was called the King of Rock and Roll. His singing is effortless across all of the styles we find on this album. He can do blues, rock, soul, country and jazz (if fever counts as jazz). The final track was my favorite.

PE said it best... Elvis was a hero to most, but he Never meant shit to me, you see, straight out Racist—that sucker was simple and plain Motherfuck him and John Wayne! But I listened to this from start to finish and this seems like the soundtrack for Making America Great Again.

Great job singing a bunch of cover songs in the iconic Elvis croon, I guess? Happy you were able to return to a successful career after your time in the military. But learning about Presley’s military service was much more interesting than the album. I learned he met Priscilla in Germany. That he decided to enlist as a regular soldier instead of being granted an exemption to be a performer in the Special Services. That the army is where he was introduced to amphetamines. And also that he was drafted when he became eligible at age 21. I can’t figure that one out though. I read about all the changes to draft age eligibility and enlistment length over the years, but what I found said that while the draft age was 21 at one point, it wasn’t in the mid-50s. Oh well, back to underwhelming crooning.

This is pleasant enough, but it’s not Elvis at his best and far from what he’s known for. His take on Fever here is pretty phenomenal and there are some other strong cuts, but none of the raw rock energy that he made his mark with.

Fever is a great showcase of Elvis’s voice over the lonesome bass. It’s fantastic, along with a couple of other good hip shakers, but they are not enough to carry the album higher.

The King returns from his stint in the army. The album leans more on his ballad side but there are still some classic rock numbers here. Best Tracks: Fever; Dirty, Dirty Feeling; Reconsider Baby

This album sees a recently returned Elvis back in the studio after a stint in the army. From his first album, this album is clearly an improvement. His voice is more assured and it is better developed. His rendition of 'Fever' particularly showcases his delicacy and control. Elvis is just not an album artist though and this album contains a lot of filler though the production is clean.

I'm not a huge Elvis fan, but I really enjoyed this album.

I mean, it's Elvis, I guess you either like his voice or you don't. I could take it or leave it, not an unpleasant listen but equally probably won't be revisiting.

Best Song: Dirty, Dirty Feeling. It was surprisingly difficult to identify anything in this album that was better than the rest, as it all felt very slow and sleepy. This one wins by sounding the least "Elvis", and having an upbeat, (safely) raunchy theme. Worst Song: Soldier Boy. As difficult it was to pick a "star", it was equally difficult to pick a low point in this album. I think this wins because what patience I had for these bloated, self-indulgent ballads had been worn thin by this track. Overall: With music like this, it is very hard to understand how Elvis came to be as famous as he was. Call it a change in tastes, but everything here is rich and overdone, but starting to sour like like milk that's gone bad. To punctuate how terrible it was, after the song ended Spotify automatically transitioned into playing a Little Richard song, which was so fiercely singular and alive that I got whiplash from the juxtaposition. I firmly believe that Elvis is only interesting to people for whom some slightly gyrating hips are considered scandalous.

I was tempted to just leave my review at “It’s Elvis". Even at his lowest ebb (and this is far from that) he still has that voice, that spark, that…thing. This is a pretty good set of pop rock and roll songs of the time, and the backing is stripped back enough to really showcase the man himself. Not his best, but certainly not his worst , this is where he was perhaps starting to fit into the style of the time, rather than blazing his own trail. Such A Night is the standout here for me, but I love it all. It’s Elvis, after all.

I'm probably a little odd in that I like very, very early Elvis, and very, very late Elvis. At a push I would say the latter is my preferred listening. The completely bloated showman, just about holding it all together for one last stand. Which means that this album sits somewhere in the middle. It hasn't got the rawness of the pre-army period, or the polished production just before he copped it on the shitter. It's decent, but you can already sense the Hollywood mediocre years that were to follow.

Colonel Tom Parker neutered the King on this album.

Elvis' first album after the army. You can hear the work he had been putting into his singing during his time away, with a more mature tone and increased range. This was recorded in a top Nashville studio with top players and was his first stereo album.... but all the things that went wrong with Elvis' career in the 60s start here. Designed to be an (inoffensive), 4-quarters crowd-pleaser, appealing to nearly everyone, there is a not a lot of edge here. A couple of ballads, a couple of gospel songs, some inoffensive blues filler, and not a lot of rockin'. Not yet fully leaning into the glory of his maturity (that didn't come until the comeback special and the pompous glory of the 70s), but without the rough immediacy of his Sun years, this is an album designed to be as shiny and mass-market blockbuster as you could possibly get. And, like most early 60s albums, nearly all the good tracks were released as singles and not on the album. This actually plagued him most of his career; poor song choice leading to albums full of filler. The only albums really worth listening to are ones with a particular viewpoint (such as the Memphis album, Christmas albums or gospel albums). This is a completely inessential release from one of the great giants of 20th century popular music. Listen to a best of compilation instead.

OK the album isn't terrible, it's just... yeah kinda plain. A lot of similar-sounding slow ballads. One thing though - I have to admit this record *sounds* really good; way better than I'd expected for a 1960 album. Recycled simple blues songs for suburban America. Just not my bag. 5/10 2 stars.

This album sounds great! Elvis sounds great, and so do the rest of the musicians, as does the stereo sound. These are not his famous songs, but it's incredibly Elvisy in such a good way that I would play it to show why people liked Elvis so much.

I dig Elvis, and I dug this album. Nothing that I was familiar with, but a quality album both in sound and entertainment value.

Other than Fever, I didn't recognize a single song on this album. Really enjoyed getting to listen to a bunch of brand-new-to-me Elvis songs.

This is some great classic Jordinaires-backed Elvis! His voice sounds really great, the recording sounds really great (in Stereo!), and he recorded this after coming back from a stint in the army (not something I have seen big rock and roll stars do in my lifetime). This didn’t have any of the monster hits I knew of from Elvis, but I enjoyed it a lot. And found a lot of songs I could bop along with. I was leaning towards a 4-star rating, but my mother would be disappointed, and he does do a mean cover of Fever. So five stars it is!

Elvis' fourth album overall and his first in two years after his army discharge. The only other Elvis album I have listened and can compare to is one of his Christmas albums that my parents had. But, I don't really remember much of that. That will change in the future with this exercise. One of the critical praises of this album is the musical variety which I wholly agree with. This variety includes ballads, doo-woop (for lack of a better term), rock and blues. Needless to say, he nails all of them. My two favorite songs are the two blues-based songs "Like A Baby" and "Reconsider Baby" which end the album. Another highlight is his cover of Peggy Lee's "Fever". I can't say that I didn't expect to like and enjoy this album. I did. It's Elvis baby.

The King definitely gets right to work on this one. I never really got into Elvis. Can't deny his music has stood the test of time and persists into contemporary culture. That being said, this stuff is corny. Once in a while a song hits with me like Viva Las Vegas, That's Alright, Suspicious Minds, and in the case of this album, Fever. But everything else is meh for me.

Smoldering, sultry, raucous, and swaying back and forth between soulful and playful. The album covers a ton of ground (Rock - 'Dirty, Dirty Feeling', Do-Wop - 'Solider Boy', Soul - 'It Feels So Right', and even Blues - 'Reconsider Baby') and every single track is firmly footed in a pop sensibility. The one track I just can't shake though is 'Fever'. Elvis' performance is breathless and breathtaking. The solitary upright bass, surrounded by the ghosts of reverbed vocals and snaps, keep this barely tethered song from flying off. Bursts of bongo fills accentuate the creeping ambiance. It's haunting and seductive. All-up the album was considerably more enjoyable than I was expecting, made great by exemplary performances by Elvis, the Blue Moon Boys, and all of the supporting vocalists and artists. Shout out to the bass vocalist especially.

I don't know, looks and sounds like the same Elvis to me... (OOPS! I'm sorry. I thought this album was called "Elvis is BLACK!") Three songs recorded during this session went to number 1 on the Billboard Hot 100. None are included on the album, which is insane. The King's voice actually improved after he got out of the army, and yet he followed up this gem by seemingly appearing in as many forgettable movies as time would allow. As always, blame the colonel. But this is the King, who belongs on this list in a big way.

Identifying Elvis - it’s Elvis

I always liked Elvis more than the Beatles as a kid because it felt like the edgier thing to say. I now know that I was a fool. But Elvis still fucks. I mean, literally. Your grandma lost her virginity to this album. I'm sorry to say that and for making you think about it. But it's true.

Good rock and roll. "Fever" is buttery-smooth and really shows Presley's versatility.

Oops, missed this one apparently. Not really a big Elvis guy, and this is largely forgettable, but it's nice to listen to in the moment. The only thing that makes it remotely essential, though, is "Fever", which is sick. D+

Rock and roll changed a LOT in even the 10 years after this album came out Can't say this is doing much for me, really. It's a bunch of oldies pop songs that has more in common with soul and R&B than it does rock music nowadays. None of these are even the Elvis songs I recognize. This bluesier songs are the best ones here.

Elvis might be overrated, but this record does a good job at capturing his creative and technical range. It’s not all that exciting instrumentally, but there’s really nobody that can play these angles quite like the king. Blues, jazz, pop, rock, country western… it’s all just a day at the office for this guy – I really adore his flexibility and comfort in every sphere. His voice is rock solid, that sugary sweet timbre can dig out some deep notes as well as hit a few pristine highs, and that signature buttery vibrato is a world beater. I’ve heard oodles of Elvis before, but you can still color me impressed by this record. Big dig. 3.5

Elvis does have a pretty great voice, and a lot of this is a good listen. But some lyrics are, um, maybe not so cool… “That’s when I drag you home with me, girl. I’m gonna chain you to the wall.”

I was hopeful going into this, but there are much better Elvis albums. This is fairly bland as Elvis albums go, with just a couple of notable songs. The ballads are better than most of the up-tempo numbers, with the exception of "Such a Night," which is a genuine delight and the best song on the album. Fave Songs: Such a Night, Thrill of Your Love, Soldier Boy, Reconsider Baby

Definitely Elvis

was surprised how much I liked this album.

Seems almost like a throwaway album the studio put out as an afterthought. Some of the melodies are catchy, but most songs just exist for two minutes and peter out into nothing almost as if Elvis gave up trying to find a suitable ending and just left the stage. Goes without saying this isn't a wholly memorable project.

More or less what you'd expect from an Elvis album. The cover of Fever is worth a listen though.

I don’t know what to do with you, Elvis. I do enjoy your rockabilly stuff, ‘Make Me Know It,’ ‘Dirty, Dirty Feeling,’ ‘Girl Next Door Went A-Walking,’ as well as the blues numbers, ‘Like a Baby,’ ‘It Feels So Right,’ ‘Reconsider Baby.’ But the other half of this LP, all those sappy songs about romantic love found and lost… I don’t want 'that' Elvis back. That Elvis should re-enlist. Ahhh, this isn’t an album for me anyway, or most of you, maybe none of you. This is an LP for all the teenage girls in the late 1950’s who pined for Elvis while he served his time in the military. And I’m sure they wet their panties when they saw this cover- all sexy-eyed and coifed hair. Doggone dreamy, this Elvis is. The Jordanaires are here again, doing their doo wop best. Backing band, The Blue Moon Boys, are also back, rockin’ and playing the blues. Not that we hear much from them. Guitarist Scotty Moore is seldom allowed to tear it up. The reigns are loosened up a bit for pianist Floyd Cramer and saxophonist Boots Randolph on the last two numbers. But this is really all about Elvis. And his voice is in fine form, maybe it’s best, at times growling and barking, while other moments just as smooth and soft as a milkshake. If you like Elvis, you’ll enjoy this LP. And, if you’re not a fan (and I'm not), then there’s nothing here that’s going to change your mind. It is what it is: Elvis Presley. And he’s back. But baby, he never really left your aching heart in the first place, did he?

Who doesn’t love vintage Elvis (or really, any Elvis). His sound is upbeat and energy is always there. His vocals are excellent as expected.

A very good album that captures Elvis's vitality and greatness. My only complaint is some of the songs just don't go anywhere.

I like the 50s Elvis and I even like the later "comeback" Elvis but this stuff in the early and middle 60s just doesn't hold up for me over the course of an album. I think the backing vocals of The Jordanaires are what blow it for me actually. I'd rather just have Elvis front and center with a stripped down backing band behind him like in the Sun days.

I mean, it's Elvis. Clearly a 5 for cultural impact. But in terms of listening pleasure it's a 3 for me, not my thing. But, fun to listen to and think about all the music after Elvis that was inspired.

Sure, this first stereo album by Presley is exquisitely recorded, especially for the year it was released. And Elvis has never sung better than on this one, apparently, adding range and nuance to his performance, hereby displaying vocal chops that were nowhere to be found in his earlier mono records. But the problem lies elsewhere: does anyone really think the songs on this record are superior to the all-time hits Elvis Presley had released during the fifties? Weren't the rougher vocals and more barebone instrumentation dating from those first singles and albums far more compelling than this mellow stuff here? Sure, it's OK to broaden your horizons... But even the cover of "Fever" feels lackluster compared to the earlier versions of that classic gem of a song. No wonder John Lennon said that Elvis symbolically died when he went to the army. Lennon was no deaf idiot, he knew that technically, there was nothing wrong with this album. But the spirit of early rock'n' roll was gone, and you couldn't fool sincere fans of the genre like him. Admittedly, there are a few bluesy cuts towards the end of that record that still make it an interesting listen for folks interested in that period. But there's also too much pop/doo-wop stuff watering down that early rock'n'roll dimension kids like Lennon longed for in the first place. Besides, the album is also somewhat obnoxious for being partly a PR plan from manager Colonel Parker so as to artificially (and successfully) revive the Elvis craze. After spending two years in the U.S. Army in Germany, Presley sure worked his ass off on that one to make sure his comeback would be worthwhile. But does that mean that the result should be a mandatory listen? Hard work is not always fruitful. And more worryingly, it seems that Dimery and the writers from "1001 Albums..." are often under the spell of promotional plans dating from way back when in their selections of so-called "important" records. And those PR plans shouldn't have a bearing on their critical assessment today. For chrissake, this stint here is the mother of all the PR shenanigans that followed, and it's a sixty-plus-year-old stint, to boot. Good music (or even "bad' music, for that matter) has nothing to do with this. This here is marketing, first and foremost. That people fell for it sixty years ago is understandable. But today??? There's another issue die-hard Elvis fans never consider when they put forward albums like these. Nobody ever thinks of the younger generations who might wonder why Elvis was such a phenomenon for their grandparents or great-grandparents. If you exposed them first to this album, they wouldn't get the picture at all. There are at least two or three records before it, during the fifties, that make a finer job explaining the brush strokes of the phenomenon that Presley was. And some of those records also have hidden gems that are far more intriguing or evocative than any of the stuff in *Elvis Is Back!*. Take "Blue Moon", on the very first LP, for instance. Finally, no one should forget that Presley also represented the "white" face of a black culture largely left in the margins of the "mainstream" at the time. And that, as such, his inclusion on this list should *at least* be complemented by the inclusion of lesser-known African-American artists. In a way, I'm delighted that this album has been suggested to me, because it's given me the occasion to discover who the first performer of "Fever" was. His name was Little Willie John, he's a half-forgotten figure, and yet his performance of the song was just brilliant, as brilliant as the one by Peggy Lee (and far more brilliant than the one on *Elvis Is Back!*). And the most important point comes now: anyone who thinks I'm exaggerating things when I (along many others) state that Elvis is still a symptom of the plundering of black culture should consider the following nugget: when you type "Fever" on Spotify, many versions of the song appear, by Peggy Lee, Elvis Presley, Michael Bublé and the likes... Yet Little Willie John's original version does not, at least not before dozens of other suggestions. If *this* is not a symbol of cultural appropriation, I don't know what is. [Number of albums left to review or just listen to: 978 Number of albums from the list I find relevant enough to be mandatory listens: 9 Albums from the list I *might* include in mine later on: 6 Albums from the list I will *not* include in mine (as I think many others are more important): 7 (including this one--unless I have room for it, but it'd be for its historical importance only, and it will be at the very bottom of my list). It's fine. A little slow for me. I've never been an Elvis person.

I'm not an Elvis fan, and this is worse than I expected. It's really slow, and doesn't really "rock" the way I thought Elvis did. He can sing, I'll give him that, but he just doesn't do anything for me.

The temptation is to not take this seriously, but that's habit, isn't it? Awfully fun and clean and good. There's just a hint of haunting to the wholesomeness, isn't there? The crispness and the simplicity of the playing are notable, as is the quality of Elvis' voice, which is worth being reminded of.

In my mind Elvis is kinda of a cheesy figure who isn't really worth much serious consideration. But this record is actually pretty great! While I'm not sure how much artistry Elvis himself actually possesses - he's got a backing band of absolute pros, covers some great songs, and is being recorded with (at the time) state of the art record production. The record just sounds great. Also, Elvis' voice is nothing to complain about at all - often powerful and versatile. While I'm typically more of a fan of musicians that take a more "auteur" or "diy" approach, it's hard to deny the craftsmanship on this record. Fun stuff!

2.5-3/5 I’ve never listened to Elvis outside of his super hits and even then it’s always just been on the radio or when it’s part of a tv show or movie. I can’t really say anything bad about the album, a bit boring or slow at some points but that could just be because I’ve listened to newer music that was built on the foundation Elvis helped set. He does have a great voice and I enjoyed the album but it just isn’t interesting to me outside of a look at the history of rock and roll. I've never been a huge Elvis fan, but this album helps me understand his appeal a bit more. His voice is undeniable: rich and powerful, yet smooth as butter. The production on the album is excellent. The backup vocals are always clear without being overpowering. Great harmonies and fun music 4/5

Listened before? N Peak Elvis! This is my second Elvis album and it’s amazing beginning to end!

I was initially excited to get an Elvis album, but ended up being disappointed. Not that it was bad, but just not the rockabilly that I like from that era of music. Not bad, Elvis’ voice was good, good variety of different styles on the album, but not what I was hoping for.

Elvis in top form, nothing amazing or super original, but such as contrast to the pop music of today: real instruments, doo-wop backup singers, a wide variety of songs and lyrics. Today the best you can hope for is an autotuned singer and a guy with pro tools rehash the same tired drum samples, loops and chord progressions for the millionth time.

it's the fucken KING!!!! The only reason people my age listen to Elvis is if their parents listened to him, and mine didn't. But this is just undeniably catchy. He's a way more versatile singer than I expected, too. 4/5.

30 November 2021 Listened in bits through the day at home home before driving back for the Derby. 4-1. Not the bangers you know elvis for which is nice. Fever is a tune.

I like the variation in tempo/sound, but wanted more variation in subject matter. I guess it's what the people wanted at the time. Good track lengths.

Great album of songs I hadn't heard before

Growing up, I always heard about The King, and how he is adored by even the greatest names in music but somehow his music was alien to me, or at least I always thought so. It’s not an album as we would later be used to but damn is this great!

A couple of tracks is about my Elvis limit.

The rendition of Fever on this album made me feel embarrassed while I was sitting alone, listening to it. The musicianship is great throughout, but this was not for me.

At first, I thought this was going to be a bust, given the soupy backing vocals on the opening track. However, these soon charmed me and despite the largely nondescript material, Presley's voice seduced me. The more up-tempo numbers are the best - 'Thril of Your Love', 'Such a Night', 'It Feels So Right' and especially 'Like a Baby' - but the standout is 'Fever'. One of the slinkiest, sexiest joints ever captured on wax, just sublime!

Kind of felt like Mehlvis to me. Nothing really jumped out, alas. I assume we’ll be getting more so hopefully something else will pop. Elvis has always been someone I’ve wanted to appreciate more than I have to date. Where’s the shit with him singing pseudo-Hawaiian beachy stuff? That’s what I’m here for.

Post-Army Elvis returns with increased range and improved phrasing AND in stereo! This is a neat portrait of growth from a guy who thought the Army had killed his career. I wouldn't have thought the King was subtle enough to nail 'Fever' but bugger me, he is. A real surprise.

It’s my first Elvis album and I liked to. Especial the change to the last songs, Side B ? that had more of a rock feel.

I like Elvis' music, but I think he's more of a singles guy... I preferred the mix of styles on this one to the debut but it's another 2.5.

Such a Night was a song I enjoyed despite never having heard it before. I probably won't listen this is ever again though

3.4 - Elvis is probably at his most polished and professional. He hasn't yet gone to seed from barbituates, B-film cameos and fried peanut butter and banana sandwiches. To me it sounds like a Michael Bublé album - just a bit dull.

Standard early Elvis. Nothing really stood out for me and a few of the tracks blurred in to one another. But enjoyable if you are in a 60s rock and roll mood.

No wonder he was so controversial back in the 1950s.

Classic Elvis

Great fun, though slightly dark

I hate to rate this how I did because it's a great album, but it also feels... tired. The album being the first recorded after his military service makes sense.

Great for it's time, but not great for our time. Hard to rate as it's kind of campy and shallow, but would not have seemed so in 1960 when it came out. More of a gateway to the next generation than part of it. Only a few years later, the rules were completely rewritten by bands like the Beatles, Stones, Who that led to music that still holds up 60 years later. This does not. Elvis' voice and singing is very good for what the music allows, but not much is allowed.

fucking hate elvis

My mother in law is a huge Elvis fan. I guess because of that I find him incredibly… dated. This album did not convince me otherwise. The songs were too “boppy”. A few sounded okay, but it felt really stuck in the 50s.

I know he's the King and all, but I was a bit underwhelmed. Thought the album would knock my socks off. Still solid. I listened to it a whole bunch, looking for variety or seamlessness or something. Lots of reasons to like it and his unworldly talent is on display, but missing a truly unique X factor on this album. His backup singers doing that annoying low guy/alto voice was also pure drivel - stand up to your producers man. I'll give it a 4 cuz he's the King and cuz I just gave that Deerhunter album a 4 (prob should've been a 3) so can't go lower.

It was interesting reading about this album. It was Elvis' first since being discharged from the army. It was also a commercial failure, only selling 300,000 copies. The album fits the "Living Stereo" label, recorded using a Neumann U-47 studio mic. It does sound amazing. Apart from Fever there aren't a lot of hits here but it does have song good solid song-writing from his band and is a great listen. I'm surprised he got away with the lyric: "That's when I'll drag you home with me girl I'm gonna chain you to the wall" Overall a fun rock album I'd put at 3.5 stars and I'll round it up to 4.

I'm not really an Elvis fan and this album didn't change that even after multiple listens. The band and Elvis sounded good, but the songs were kind of bland. The two tracks that stood out for me were It Feels So Right and The Girl Next Door Went a'Walking.

Love a little Elvis but not his best album so I can’t give it a 5!

My first Elvis album, and must say an interesting experience. There are elements i loved including his crooning voice and smooth feeling of the album, but it is a bit too old for me. While all songs were good, none were that memorable after a couple of listens and captured my interest to specifically search for one on Spotify. I must say it did make me want to explore more of his music and listen to some of his hits. Looking forward for more Elvis in the future.

Lot’s to enjoy here from the King. Doesn’t have the out and out raw energy, swagger, and urgency of his best 50s stuff, but there’s still heaps of style. His voice is as good as ever, and the session musicians and production are on point and top notch with the latter part of the record being surprisingly loose and sleazy. Good stuff overall.

After returning from military service, Elvis's sound & voice had matured to try different genres of songs on this album - his fourth. The album consists of rock, pop, & blues music with Elvis improving his vocal range as well. This album was one of the first with stereophonic sound, and the new technology was well used by Elvis. I don't really like jamming out to Elvis and the critics of this album didn't like it when it came out, but it was an evolution in Elvis' career and an important piece of music history.

Elvis's voice sounds nice and is recorded well, with consistent depth and the signature swagger when it's called for. However, everything suffers a bit from the commerciality (silly to criticize The King for, of course), and the slow cuts are especially underwhelming. Fever is the clearest high point with its interplay of voice and percussion. Like A Baby is an example of a slow song done well. The rest is decent-to-good.

Primero me pregunté por qué este disco, ahora entiendo el furor y la idea de que fuera el primer album que sacara después de haber realizado su servicio en la guerra. Afortunadamente lo que sí puedo notar es una amplia variedad musical. Aun sin el contexto histórico es un buen disco, Elvis suena bien, su banda suena bien, la producción suena bien. me gusta. Aún me queda la duda realmente, para un músico que fue tan prolífico ¿por qué elegir este para la lista? Incluso con el contexto mencionado... no hay hits ni canciones famosas de él. Hablamos de una persona que tuvo quizá más de 20 super hits en su carrera y ¿eligen el disco en el que vienen cero? Como mencioné, la calidad de grabación, la banda, la voz, todo muy bien pero nada salta al frente. Algunas baladas, se siente mucho cómo se va a ir alejando de ese doowop (creo que solo Girl of My Dreams me sonó a ese estilo) y se irá convirtiendo en esa mezcla de romántico y pop. Disco muy decente, muy escuchable... pero aun con mi ignorancia sobre el detalle del resto de su discografía no siento que sea una gran elección para esta lista.

Creo que este disco está muy bajo en el sentido del beat, supongo que para atraer de nuevo al público después de la ausencia de Elvis. Buena fórmula, no le siento nada mal solo que no le veo mayores rolas fuera de soldier boy y tener la original de "enamorado de la novia de mi mejor amigo"

Es un álbum complicado para ser el primero de Elvis que nos toca: todavía tiene un montón de la onda de los 50 con mucho doo-wop y ese tipo de sonido, pero ya empieza a tener también la calidad vocal que lo hace ícono y capaz de cantar lo que le pongan enfrente. Es interesante también que Elvis, aunque era absolutamente comercial y manejado como un producto (incluso mientras estuvo en el ejército la disquera tenía un “guardadito” de canciones para no dejar de vender) pero él se trataba a sí mismo como artista, eligiendo sus temas y mejorando su técnica. En este disco se empieza a notar eso.

For me and my appreciation of Elvis its all about the material...are the SONGS to my liking, because the performance and delivery all always spot on. On this album he lets his blues side OUT! Some big blues numbers here that are great performances and the material is pretty good. Fever is another high point one of the best versions of that song I've ever heard. 3.75 stars

Duck boy elvis

Elvis is really not normally my cup of tea but I actually highly enjoyed this album. Although it did seem a tad samey by the end, which is common for albums in that time period it seems. Not something that’s going to inspire me to dive into his other albums though

It's Elvis

This is my first Elvis album. To be honest, It wasn't bad. Elvis has some solid pipes Make me know it feels like a classic, same with Fever. The girl of my best friend is good, but it feels weird to vibe to it. The Classic "I'm in love with the woman I can't have song" It's solid though, Just so many of them. Overall, I'd recommend.

So many babies were conceived to this record… This album showcases the quality and range of Elvis’ voice compared with earlier ballads and later Vegas mumbling, often straying into blues and jazz. The session musicians dazzle and are a real highlight. And whilst there are no knock-it-out-of-the-park famous hits (and a completely unnecessary near identical vocal interpretation of Peggy Lee’s version of Fever), there is lots to enjoy here.

Really lovely listen to this album, the ultra familiar tones of Elvis was strangely very comforting. Although I don't think I've heard any of the Elvis originals in the album, it feels like a more mature outing than his earlier songs. The different styles and pace of music take some getting used to, and can see that there might have been mixed reviews when this initially was released. The production on Fever is just gorgeous! Best: Fever; Dirty, Dirty Feeling Worst: I will be home again

pleasantly surprised. didn't think i would enjoy listening to Elvis but this record proved me wrong. Loved the track Fever.

Never been a big fan, but this one is much more soulful than his first rock n roll records. He masters his voice and the sound of this record is much better than his others before the army.

I mean, classic right? But also, very uniform sound. Fever was my favorite on that album. I feel like he gets a really different sound out of that song compared to the others. Overall, good.

I dig this album. Elvis just carries so much love and pain in each one of his songs. He really makes me feel it.

Escapa a la narrativa de sus caderas y el rock de la cárcel. Tiene una gran voz para las baladas y medios tiempos, una muy influyente yo creo, están las semillas ahí de las voces más graves en el rock que nos dan todo lo oscuro: Jim Morrison, Iggy, Nick Cave, todo eso.

Muy Elvis. Voz espectacular

“Elvis Is Back” by Elvis Presley (1960) I’m very familiar with Elvis Presley through radio airplay, TV, movies, and hits when I was growing up in the 1960s, but I’ve never listened to a whole album of his music. And I don’t suppose anyone should be content to die before listening to an Elvis album, so I’m grateful for the experience. But it’s not his best stuff. This album is a product. And as a product, it is clearly well produced. Strong presence of backing vocals and top notch studio musicians. The songwriting is good, basically a collection of current songs by professional writers. So Elvis’ artistic work here is mostly that of a front man for a collaborative project. However, the art of Elvis Presley is not so much what he emitted, but rather what he evoked. He tapped into something in his audience that was latent and repressed—something that emerged as chaotic and histrionic mania. He put the boom in Boomers. He did for music what Van Gogh did for painting. Elvis’ voice at this stage of his life is better than it was in the middle 1950s, but still marked by an annoyingly rapid high-throat vibrato which one suspects he depends on to maintain pitch on sustained notes. Nice sonorous tone in the lower end of his range, but rather whiny on the highs. This is a good album. But it does not demonstrate what made Elvis a cultural icon. It lacks the energy and seductiveness of his earlier live and television performances. And it lacks the showmanship of his later Vegas years. If this album were the only Elvis Presley music to which you were ever exposed, you’d likely think, “Meh.” And that would be a shame. 3/5

I don't immediately hate this. the first track is pleasant. Fever is a good restrained second track. yea this was okay.

I never listened to a complete Elvis album before, so I'm very impressed with this one. A great opportunity to know a little bit of pop/rock history, even recognizing a lot of influences from blues and knowing that Elvis is not a real rock pioneer (maybe in a commercial way, but not artistic), this looks like an important album for me.

No hay skips para mí en este álbum. Incluso con su ocasional baladita, todo se oye bien y la voz de Presley se amolda bien según el tono de la canción. No sé si para entonces es muy temprano llamarlo así, pero suena a rock pop o pop rock. También suena a toda una época. Y ahí mi coraje con un país tan podrido como USA, pero que tiene de repente maravillas como Elvis Presley (sin que él en su totalidad deba ser maravilloso). 10/10
