Reviews (page 6 of 8)

Elvis' voice is so amazing that he can basically carry anything. And this is a nice easy listen. But it's not terribly interesting, and it doesn't have any of The King's strongest material on it.

Pent album. Lett å like, vanskelig å hate. Fever står igjen som albumets store hit, resten blir fort litt glemt.

Pretty mellow album but nothing too special

There’s a lot of Elvis songs that I like a lot, but none of the ones I knew beforehand were on this album. He’s definitely one of those where it’s nicer for me to put his music on in the background, or work him into a mixed playlist rather than sitting & focusing on a whole album of him

Never loved Elvis. Never listened to an album. I Might prefer a more rocknroll 50's album than this as it is is mostly just smooth simpering pap. Great early stereo production.

In Pog Form

Classic Elvis not for me.

3.5 easy listening music

Good old music, nothing too special.

Although it's difficult to separate the cultural icon from the music, I have listened to enough of Elvis Presley's music to have formed the opinion that I appreciate his abilities and enjoy certain of his recordings. This album has some good tracks -- 'Fever' is surprisingly good, for example, and 'It Feels So Right' is a nice blues number -- and it's fun for me to imagine the time during which this was released. The 50s and the early Elvis years and all the great rock music that put the genre on its 50-year trajectory were in the past and things were about to change enormously in so many ways in the next few years. In the meantime, just out of the Army, Elvis recorded this album and got back into the mix. I've mentioned it before, but it bears repeating: please do yourself a huge favor and listen to Andrew Hickey's incredible podcast series, 'A History Of Rock Music In 500 Songs'. As you might expect, a few episodes feature Elvis songs, and you'll learn a lot about him, his music, and most of all, have some myths dispelled. Fascinating.

Enjoyable enough, love his voice love the band, but none of the songs really knock one's socks off. Favortite: the Girl Next Door Went A'Walking.

Sacrilege, Elvis trying to sing Fever…

Some nice tunes, but not as lively as some

Decent, not amazing

Elvis is boring

Love me some Elvis but these were a little slow

Favorite: Make Me Know It

https://youtu.be/G8Zw_ERCOts the ballads are shit, but the upbeat ones are kinda fun and make me feel like i'm waiting for a sub standard pizza at frankie and bennys.

Prefs: Make Me Know It, Fever, Soldier Boy, Such a Night Moins pref: The Girl of My Best Friend

I recently 'discovered' Elvis with this website. That record (From Elvis in Memphis) hooked me. This one was fine but more in line with what I had always expected an Elvis record to be. My ears are more open to listening to Elvis however this was ok but not great - for me

Never been the biggest Elvis fine. It was OK

He's white? ... he's white.

Solid record; these are polished Elvis tunes, but it’s nothing amazing? I have to wonder why this album made the list over Aloha from Hawaii or any of Elvis’s stellar gospel music.

Niet geweldig

Not bad, lacking depth, but decent enough in the background. Lyrics tend to be somewhat inane (or disturbing, see chaining a girl to the wall).

Belle voix, belles harmonies. Enviiiis 👑

A good Elvis album, but I never was a big fan of his work. Had a good time, for what it's worth.

It's OK, it's Elvis

I liked this more than I thought I would! His rendition of Fever was probably the highlight for me. 3.5/5 stars

30 minutes of Elvis. Doesn't outstay his welcome.

First Elvis album I’ve ever listened to. Enjoyed it and some pretty recognizable songs, don’t think I’d got back for another listen though.

Great album!

I think this is a great place to start if someone wants to hear the "voice". The post-army Elvis had matured and his voice is a magnificent instrument. As with all Elvis records, he needs good material. The material here is above average, but there are too many average songs.

old school cool

This is pleasant enough, but it’s not Elvis at his best and far from what he’s known for. His take on Fever here is pretty phenomenal and there are some other strong cuts, but none of the raw rock energy that he made his mark with.

Fever is a great showcase of Elvis’s voice over the lonesome bass. It’s fantastic, along with a couple of other good hip shakers, but they are not enough to carry the album higher.

The King returns from his stint in the army. The album leans more on his ballad side but there are still some classic rock numbers here. Best Tracks: Fever; Dirty, Dirty Feeling; Reconsider Baby

I'm probably a little odd in that I like very, very early Elvis, and very, very late Elvis. At a push I would say the latter is my preferred listening. The completely bloated showman, just about holding it all together for one last stand. Which means that this album sits somewhere in the middle. It hasn't got the rawness of the pre-army period, or the polished production just before he copped it on the shitter. It's decent, but you can already sense the Hollywood mediocre years that were to follow.

nice and cozy album, nothing special though

Yeah this was fun. I could do more Elvis.

Usually dislike Elvis but this wasn't too bad. Some nice mix of sounds in here

Eh. Most of the songs were boring. Fever and It Feels So Right were highlights

typical elvis rock and roll album with fever as its main selling point as a more slow song, its typical elvis style so it isn't bad but it doesn't really set itself apart either

Identifying Elvis - it’s Elvis

Good rock and roll. "Fever" is buttery-smooth and really shows Presley's versatility.

Oops, missed this one apparently. Not really a big Elvis guy, and this is largely forgettable, but it's nice to listen to in the moment. The only thing that makes it remotely essential, though, is "Fever", which is sick. D+

Elvis might be overrated, but this record does a good job at capturing his creative and technical range. It’s not all that exciting instrumentally, but there’s really nobody that can play these angles quite like the king. Blues, jazz, pop, rock, country western… it’s all just a day at the office for this guy – I really adore his flexibility and comfort in every sphere. His voice is rock solid, that sugary sweet timbre can dig out some deep notes as well as hit a few pristine highs, and that signature buttery vibrato is a world beater. I’ve heard oodles of Elvis before, but you can still color me impressed by this record. Big dig. 3.5

solid 3

Met expectations.

Elvis does have a pretty great voice, and a lot of this is a good listen. But some lyrics are, um, maybe not so cool… “That’s when I drag you home with me, girl. I’m gonna chain you to the wall.”

I was hopeful going into this, but there are much better Elvis albums. This is fairly bland as Elvis albums go, with just a couple of notable songs. The ballads are better than most of the up-tempo numbers, with the exception of "Such a Night," which is a genuine delight and the best song on the album. Fave Songs: Such a Night, Thrill of Your Love, Soldier Boy, Reconsider Baby

Definitely Elvis

Pretty darn good.

Good enough

I like the 50s Elvis and I even like the later "comeback" Elvis but this stuff in the early and middle 60s just doesn't hold up for me over the course of an album. I think the backing vocals of The Jordanaires are what blow it for me actually. I'd rather just have Elvis front and center with a stripped down backing band behind him like in the Sun days.

I mean, it's Elvis. Clearly a 5 for cultural impact. But in terms of listening pleasure it's a 3 for me, not my thing. But, fun to listen to and think about all the music after Elvis that was inspired.

It's fine. A little slow for me. I've never been an Elvis person.

Some bangers here, Elvis was back in 60. Man was slanging dick tho.

Alright for elvis

In retrospective, you can say, it's a more mature and "different" Elvis. I like his voice and his entertaining style. (5/10) FT: Such a Night

2.5-3/5 I’ve never listened to Elvis outside of his super hits and even then it’s always just been on the radio or when it’s part of a tv show or movie. I can’t really say anything bad about the album, a bit boring or slow at some points but that could just be because I’ve listened to newer music that was built on the foundation Elvis helped set. He does have a great voice and I enjoyed the album but it just isn’t interesting to me outside of a look at the history of rock and roll. Fav Songs: Dirty, Dirty Feeling, Such A Night, Reconsider Baby

I like Elvis. This album was an easy-listening version of him. Nothing here blew me away. Quite short also.

I find elvis pretty hit or miss. Some of the songs were great but I didn't care of others. Favs: Thrill of your love, soldier boy, the girl next door went a'walking Dislikes: like a baby,

I was initially excited to get an Elvis album, but ended up being disappointed. Not that it was bad, but just not the rockabilly that I like from that era of music. Not bad, Elvis’ voice was good, good variety of different styles on the album, but not what I was hoping for.

Elvis in top form, nothing amazing or super original, but such as contrast to the pop music of today: real instruments, doo-wop backup singers, a wide variety of songs and lyrics. Today the best you can hope for is an autotuned singer and a guy with pro tools rehash the same tired drum samples, loops and chord progressions for the millionth time.

Track 01 - 3.25/5 Track 02 - 4/5 Track 03 - 2.75/5 Track 04 - 2.5/5 Track 05 - 3.25/5 Track 06 - 3.5/5 Track 07 - 2.5/5 Track 08 - 2.75/5 Track 09 - 3.25/5 Track 10 - 2.75/5 Track 11 - 3/5 Track 12 - 3.25/5 Overall: 3.25/5 Album Art: 2.75/5

Elvis, maar weinig speciaal. Het knietje echter niet kunnen stilhouden

30 November 2021 Listened in bits through the day at home home before driving back for the Derby. 4-1. Not the bangers you know elvis for which is nice. Fever is a tune.

I like the variation in tempo/sound, but wanted more variation in subject matter. I guess it's what the people wanted at the time. Good track lengths.

I mean, it’s an elvis album

A nice dip into nostalgia. Not his best though.

I am loving this album. So many good ones on this and I can just envision my grandma dancing in her kitchen to this album <3 A few tracks I like are Thrill of Your Love;

A couple of tracks is about my Elvis limit.

At first, I thought this was going to be a bust, given the soupy backing vocals on the opening track. However, these soon charmed me and despite the largely nondescript material, Presley's voice seduced me. The more up-tempo numbers are the best - 'Thril of Your Love', 'Such a Night', 'It Feels So Right' and especially 'Like a Baby' - but the standout is 'Fever'. One of the slinkiest, sexiest joints ever captured on wax, just sublime!

Post-Army Elvis returns with increased range and improved phrasing AND in stereo! This is a neat portrait of growth from a guy who thought the Army had killed his career. I wouldn't have thought the King was subtle enough to nail 'Fever' but bugger me, he is. A real surprise.

T'was okay.

3.4 - Elvis is probably at his most polished and professional. He hasn't yet gone to seed from barbituates, B-film cameos and fried peanut butter and banana sandwiches. To me it sounds like a Michael Bublé album - just a bit dull.

Standard early Elvis. Nothing really stood out for me and a few of the tracks blurred in to one another. But enjoyable if you are in a 60s rock and roll mood.

No wonder he was so controversial back in the 1950s.

Classic Elvis

My mother in law is a huge Elvis fan. I guess because of that I find him incredibly… dated. This album did not convince me otherwise. The songs were too “boppy”. A few sounded okay, but it felt really stuck in the 50s.

It’s fine, nothing to write home about

My first Elvis album, and must say an interesting experience. There are elements i loved including his crooning voice and smooth feeling of the album, but it is a bit too old for me. While all songs were good, none were that memorable after a couple of listens and captured my interest to specifically search for one on Spotify. I must say it did make me want to explore more of his music and listen to some of his hits. Looking forward for more Elvis in the future.

It's Elvis. Not sure what else to say about it.

Alright

3.5, entertaining

Elvis's voice sounds nice and is recorded well, with consistent depth and the signature swagger when it's called for. However, everything suffers a bit from the commerciality (silly to criticize The King for, of course), and the slow cuts are especially underwhelming. Fever is the clearest high point with its interplay of voice and percussion. Like A Baby is an example of a slow song done well. The rest is decent-to-good.

Great period piece. Music depended on the strength of the performance and Elvis was up to the challenge. My parents probably danced to this

Its solid Elvis but no standouts other than the Fever cover.

Better than the last Elvis album we listened to. Fun at times, we should mix him in with other playlists. Exhausting for a whole album.

Elvis is really not normally my cup of tea but I actually highly enjoyed this album. Although it did seem a tad samey by the end, which is common for albums in that time period it seems. Not something that’s going to inspire me to dive into his other albums though

The harmonies on I will be home again are exquisite

It's hard to process this as anything other than a historical artifact tbh. It's not bad, but i got nothing from it, apart from wanting to listen to the Alec Empire vs Elvis album again.

I liked more the Bluesy songs, great guitar by Scott Moore, Elvis' voice not bad either

It's Elvis

This is my first Elvis album. To be honest, It wasn't bad. Elvis has some solid pipes Make me know it feels like a classic, same with Fever. The girl of my best friend is good, but it feels weird to vibe to it. The Classic "I'm in love with the woman I can't have song" It's solid though, Just so many of them. Overall, I'd recommend.

Listen to Elvis before, Elvis has an amazing voice just not my type of music 3/5

Never been a big fan, but this one is much more soulful than his first rock n roll records. He masters his voice and the sound of this record is much better than his others before the army.

I didn't think it was anything super interesting or unique.

Pretty decent. Not a huge fan, but still good

(Listened to some songs before but never full album) This was a solid pop/blues record and I enjoyed most of it. It would jump from sounding inspired at points to sounding a bit trite, but overall liked it. Conflicted between 3 and 4 stars for it. Favorite Songs: I Will Be Home Again, Soldier Boy, It Feels So Right Least Favorite Songs: The Girl of My Best Friend, Dirty, Dirty Feeling

Good album, nice to see Elvis do new things

Good Elvis listening record with a little less R&B flair.

Alright overall, not sure how I feel about Elvis tbh

Great vocal range and delivery shows up on all different genres on this album. Also the backing band is stellar. 3 1/2

Interesting album that showcases Elvis' ambitions to move into different genres, and maybe reinvent himself. But despite the album featuring a bunch of different popular late 50s genres, they're all isolated in separate tracks. Would have like to feel a sense of cohesion.

Really strong record from the King. Versatile and well-heeled but maybe a little less immediate rock and roll energy than his earlier records. 3.5/5 Favourite track: "Such a Night"

Could be higher if the first half was same standard as the brilliant second half.

Really enjoyed, would've gotten 4* if he have actually done any song writing

First half was alright but the second half of the album was fantastic

Has its ups and downs. The vocal on Fever is amazing. Dirty Dirty Feeling & Such A Night are undiscovered gems.

On the short side at 30 mins. Over by the time you feel its just getting started.

Kinda neutral. Definitely okay, but the only song that grabbed me enough to distract from work was "Fever" 3/5

Elvis does have quite the nice voice, I must say

I like it, but I don't really love it.

This was pretty strong, I really liked the last two tracks with the bluesy sax going to town. Some solid covers as well

Voz espectacular

I don't immediately hate this. the first track is pleasant. Fever is a good restrained second track. yea this was okay.

Some familiar songs on this Fever, which is has been covered by other artists. Has a bit of old, classic country but mostly typical 50's music. Didn't realize how good Elvis' voice actually is all throughout. 6/10.

Lively! Not really my style though

- Make Me Know It is fun but fades out mid-verse, where you goin?! - Fever super groovy - First listen 6.5-7/10 - Second listen 6.5/10. Elvis is super fun. Ooooh reconsider babaaaaay

Not his best album, but pretty good and easy to appreciate. Not necessarily my jam, but I liked it.

Rock, blues, folk.

Some good songs. Fever, the last track. I will be home again.

Not my favorite but nit bad at all

He had better. 3/5

Its elvis

Good to hear some Elvis I hadn't heard before

Sure. 3.5

Not bad

I'm mixed with elvis, he's alright, i know he did change music, but its so so my style

I liked Elvis but it wasn't the best elvis

Ok, it's Elvis

Not the best Elvis album.

3.5 stars

Elvis doesn't play a character on this album, which means it's probably his best one. Best track: Fever

So he is alive?

Standard elvis…. Few too many ballads to mark any higher!

I just really haven’t enjoyed Elvis albums. I can barely tolerate one off songs… he’s not bad but his schtick gets old quick

Like a Baby approved ✅️ No termino de comulgar igual.

I'm not familiar with most of these Elvis songs. He always brings it though. I always think of him and Sinatra as the ultimate, and maybe last great, interpreters of songs that others wrote without apology. Now you have to be a songwriter of record, even if it means there are thirty writers on each song (Beyonce was an integral part of the process on all of those songs, I'm sure). Fever is a good song, although I like the Peggy Lee version much better. Elvis had a great voice. Dirty, Dirty Feeling has a Yakety Sax vibe. Elvis is the original pop star, there is no politics in this. These songs all kind of blend together unfortunately...it becomes "Generic Elvis Song" after a while.

The musical equivalent of Starbucks. I feel like I should like it, everyone else seems to sing its praises; it is a household name and apparently a trailblazer in their field; it opened up the game for more artists who wanted to copy them. But when it comes down to it... it's basically just a shitty cup of coffee. Its bland and lifeless. I can see why people loved it when they first tried it, as it was like nothing they had had before. But essentially new coffee does it better, this is just a brand name and tired.

He's no Eddie Cochrane

I actually like 6 songs of the 13 from the original release, with stand-outs being: Fever, It Feels So Right, Like A Baby, and Reconsider Baby. Otherwise, just crap. Because of those pathetic/bathetic songs, at best this is 3 stars. But really, as an album, the best/worst of Elvis (who I don't like at all), I can only give 2 stars because the bad shit is so fricking bad. Historically bad crap.

Slick produced version of the pre army Elvis. I prefered the bit rockier version.

There's always room for Elvis but not for a whole album. Cool songs but as album this doesn't rock for me.

#423 / 1089 Heard before? ❌ Revisit? ❌ I've no interest in this album nor the artist. I've heard some of these tracks, but since his music has never held any interest for me, I wouldn't know their names. I feel like this is a 1, but his voice is nice so 2/5

The thing about Elvis' albums is that you get 1 or 2 notable songs at most and then the rest is whatever filler they had lying around. This one is no different, in fact I'd argue it is particularly scant as far as hits are concerned. We got Elvis' pretty good version of "Fever" and... nothing else? Maybe some other of these songs became famous in its day, but alas that fame seems to be lost to time. Key tracks: Fever

His voice is good and the music is good, but there is just something that doesn't work for me. Elvis has always sounded "old' to my ears. I absolutely love some of his work, but not this, although, I did enjoy his rendition of Fever.

Boring as hell. Made me want to fall asleep

This is fine. It’s what I expected. Nothing dangerous, very smoothed out and packaged. Fever is a little interesting, but overall a boring record.

it's a typical elvis record. tastes vanilla.

There's exactly one song on here that I really liked, that would be Fever. That's about it. He's clearly a very good performer, taking songs he didn't write and making them his own. He's a great singer, especially when he is /not/ doing that one voice that everyone imitates nowadays. But that's about it for me. This album as a whole...I wanted more versatility, more expression outside of that one cool song.

Bäst är Such a night, The girl next door went a walking,

A couple of good songs, a lot of doo-wap filler

I've heard it said that you're either a Beatles person or an Elvis person - you can like both or neither, but you'll prefer one, and I prefer The Beatles. I can appreciate Elvis's importance but the style impresses me less than the content. I've also heard it said he was never the same after the army, and this shows it. Fever is one of my favourite songs and his version is fine, but doesn't come close to Peggy Lee's. The other songs are fine but inoffensive rather than interesting. A strong 2.

This was only OK

The war improved his singing and stylistic variety, but I just find it kind of dull.

As far as Elvis goes this album falls flat.

Exactly what you expect from an Elvis album. Generally not my type of music.

i like elvis, but his albums make no sense. its not like the stuff is meant to fit next to each other.

This guy gives me the ick.

going to listen now

Sounds like an Elvis Pressley impersonator doing covers of other people's greatest hits. Oh wait…

Cool little album to throw on in the background, but virtually no replay value for me here.

If Elvis is your thing, then this is probably good. I can see the appeal.

If you don't duwap, you're not gonna like this Best of duwap duwap

this is an album of the movie Elvis. Fun songs, makes me think this is the soundtrack to one of his movies of this era. Would not put it on again, but it might be fun to listen to. I would not buy this

I get why Elvis was popular when he was active. But 60 years on, I think we're ready to move on from the idea of him being a good musician and just a historically relevant one.

Thank you very much.

Fever is an all-time Elvis jam; the rest of the album is boring and repetitive.

This is Elvis seeking to polish and practice his craft, and show a level of sophistication. Controlled, mature, different styles. But that means it’s missing the swagger and unleashed sensuality that makes him Elvis…

It's just so hard for me to enjoy just about anything from this era. I appreciate he's important historically, but it is really not for me.

I'm sure he is.

Like a few songs just was not feeling it. Would give 2.5 if I could.

Not the best album from Elvis but fine

This era of music is very consistent in how it encapsulates the feelings of love, infatuation, etc. I enjoyed the mix of ballad-y songs, with swing and more jazzy-y tracks. However, the music tends to sound the same to me and it isn't entertaining to me. The rating is a 2.5, rounding down to a 2. Fav tracks: Make Me Know It Fever

When We Kissed, I Had To Fall In Love 1001 Albums Generator 261 (4/2/2026) Elvis Is Back! Back from where, you ask? Why, the army! Elvis had gotten drafted in '57, and served in the army from '58-'60 before being honorably discharged and returning to the studio to record this here album. And much like his debut showing, it's cool but nothing special to my modern ears. However, this one is less rock'n'roll and more Rythm'n'Blues/doo-wop, which I think makes it sound even more dated than his earlier album. Look, I am the biggest Frank Zappa defender on the planet, but even I find his doo-wop boring, much less Elvis'. Look, the backing vocalist do a fine job, this is just my personal preference. But, the songs that are more rockin' really stand out and just make the rest of an album a bit of a shame. Yeah I just don't think this is for me unfortunately. 2.5/5, rounded down to 2, it's not offensively bad, but just offensively boring. Favs: Make Me Know It The Girl Of My Best Friend Such A Night Least Fav: Dirty, Dirty Feeling

First time listening to an Elvis album. Probably don't need to do that again. RYM: N Saved a song: N

It was fine I guess. Minus 1 for Elvis being a creep

Would be 1 star but I’m in the pocket of Big Elvis

elvis forgot to cook with this one

Gear: Fostex TH610 Artwork: 😏🪮🧶 Production: 🤷‍♂️😑🆗 Music: 👑⁉️📉 Rating: 🤒🤒/5

96. ok

At least it's short because I really didn't care for it. The cover of "Fever" is probably the most drab version I've ever heard

eh its fine

The more I listen to Elvis the more apparent it is that he's a just product and his success and influence represents the birth of manufactured pop stars and nothing to do with his creativity or ability. And while you can't deny his ability to land some of these songs, it's just disappointing that at his best, he's still just imitating the original artists.

This isn't a bad album. After all it is Elvis and his very distinctive voice, which he performs. It is completely okay. The musicians on here are good. I just didn't find anything in here overly inspiring to me. It was fun. I just don't see myself ever intentionally playing this again.

Probably was great for the time. Reminds me of poodle skirts and back to the future.

I'm generally unmoved by Elvis and this was very generically Elvis by numbers. Not bad but nothing to get my attention. Not sure of its relevance to this list other than the novelty of Elvis coming back from military service and getting back on it.

Elvis puts in a great vocal performance throughout, but this lacks the visceral power of the tracks that burst him on to the scene - Jailhouse Rock, Hound Dog et al. This is the third Elvis album we've considered - I loved the stanky soul, rock and gospel of 'From Elvis in Memphis'; his explosive debut wasn't far behind. This by comparison feels a little inconsequential (important at the time perhaps on account of his return to music after his army years); some nice tunes but not many that stick in the memory, nor any that match the power of his singles peppered through this period.

It's hard to point to anything that's really bad about this album, but it's hard to point to much that's all that great about it either. Elvis's vocals are good, but they're not that good. Like, compared to a soul singer, this is kind of a routine, emotionless performance. The upbeat songs here are fun, but they're not memorable and feel weaker than stuff Buddy Holly was recording a few years earlier. The slow songs are the biggest knock against it, as they all sound similar and aren't interesting. The most interesting - though maybe not the best - song is "Fever, a stark, almost vocal jazz number that puts all the emphasis on Elvis and none on the music. More variety would maybe have helped this feel less inessential. As it is, it feels like a label playing Elvis's return safe with decent but very forgettable material.

The album is fine for what it is, but it's all just a bit boring for me. Listening to a whole album of lovey-dovey Elvis songs gets very dry very fast.

I guess his first album after getting out of the army is of historical interest, but I'm not really feeling it. It's not just that there's no hits on it (his debut aside from Blue Suede Shoes is similar in that respect, from what I remember), it's that it just feels kind of phoned-in, Elvis-by-numbers.

Elvis Presley - Elvis Is Back! Heard before? ❎ Revisit? ❎ Elvis crooning for 30 minutes with little variation is not the one. On this basis, I wished he hadn't returned...

Yep, that's Elvis alright

Of course I am aware of Elvis. I remember when he did the first live satellite broadcast of a concert (or something like that). I remember his movies being on TV in nonstop rotation for what seemed like the whole summer after he died - and my girl cousins just wanted to watch them all the time. I have 7 of his songs liked on Spotify - basically a few of his hits from across his career I think. But I've never actually listened to a whole Elvis album all the way through. I take that back - I have listened to his Christmas album (from 1957) all the way through many times. I listened to this 3 times - as I have for most of these albums on here. Some thoughts... When I first looked at the track list my initial thought was that I don't recognize any of the songs on here. The first time through I kept thinking this is a "paint by numbers" Elvis album where the producers and writers came together and said let's create a new "ELVIS" album and wanted to check all of the standard boxes - so we can remind people about him after his military service. After a couple more listens I started to appreciate it for what it is - a well constructed set of songs created by professional musicians and writers - with a singer that happens to have a very good voice. "Fever" - I think I like this one the best because of the sparse arrangement. Makes it different and interesting. Also, when listening with headphones I could tell they were trying things out with stereo techniques. It kinda made it feel like you were sitting there with the few musicians involved circled around you. Also made me think of Springsteen's song called "I'm On Fire" and how he was probably inspired by this. The title of that song is even a line from this one. "The Girl of My Best Friend" - I gotta assume The Cars were aware of this song when they wrote "My Best Friend's Girl" nearly 20 years later. Don't know for sure. Not similar musically but just has similar theme. "Such A Night" - I know I've heard this one before but just can't place it where or when. Pretty good. "It Feels So Right" - good vibe. "Like A Baby" - the song that proves you can stuff 9 similes about babies into 1 song. Who knew that was possible? I ended up liking the 5 songs listed above and would be ok for them to show up on my playlists. I can also see how other artists that I like that came after definitely picked up a few things from Elvis - such as Beatles, Stones, Led Zeppelin, Queen, Springsteen etc. - although all of those artists grew in endless directions beyond this kind of music. I don't think I'll ever get to a point where Elvis is my favorite artist or where I want to listen to this all on repeat - but I definitely appreciate him a little more than I did before. Liked songs on Spotify: 5/12 Rating: 2/5

Elvis is a white face on Black music. I'd prefer an album of the original songs with the original Black musicians. "White cover versions of hits by black musicians ... often outsold the originals; it seems that many Americans wanted black music without the black people in it" (Robert Walser (1998) "The rock and roll era", in The Cambridge History of American Music, Cambridge University Press, p. 358).

I get that Elvis is an important piece in musical history but this is just boring, samey, croony rock n roll. There’s little variation and most of it is really quite pedestrian. He didn't write the songs, and honestly I don’t even really care for his signature vocal style. I think you probably had to be there.

Eipä tää Elvari nyt niin kummosta oo. Yksi kokoelma riittää. 2/5

Light tones, very free-spirited ? I would say I was bored, but the album has many songs for such a short time (12 songs in ~30 minutes, average of 2:30 per song). At least the pace makes it easy to listen to, because it lacks content.

This feels very dated to me. It's fine to listen to, I guess. Not really an Elvis guy, I guess. 2.5 stars, rounded down.

Make Me Know It - 3.5/5 Fever - 2/5 The Girl of My Best Friend - 2/5 I Will Be Home Again - 2.5/5 Dirty, Dirty Feeling - 2.5/5 Thrill of Your Love - 2.5/5 Soldier Boy - 2.5/5 Such a Night - 3/5 It Feels So Right - 3/5 The Girl Next Door - 3/5 Like a Baby - 2.5/5 Reconsider Baby - 2.5/5 Elvis is back and they really should have reconsidered what came out on this album. He shifts away from the rock n' roll and has more blue-eyed soul type songs, but all of them unfortunately feel a lot like B sides more than anything. Overall: 2/5 Favorites: Make Me Know It

Alternates between soporifically cheesy and uptempo cheesy.

This is most certainly music.

Oh good. Elvis is back. It is notable how often I finish one of these albums and put on something that will never appear on this list.

Meh, I'm not sure what Elvis was back from.

Very disappointing, rock / blues Elvis is great. There’s a lot of gimmicky doowop stuff on this sadly.

Elvis isn't for everyone. Top class crooning, but I really don't enjoy it.

First album of the year and you're telling me Elvis is back? It's a funny way to begin the year but truth be told I don't really care about this album. I guess I appreciate Elvis as a popculture figure and like some of his songs but when it comes to his full albums I'm kinda meh 2/5

Album #18: Elvis Is Back! - Elvis Presley Genre (according to Wikipedia): Rock and roll, pop, R&B, blues, rock Singles: Such a Night, The Girl of My Best Friend Have you listened?: Once before. I love Elvis. Thoughts?: I love Elvis Presley, but this doesn’t sound like an album that belongs on this list. I consider him more of a singles artist than an album artist. He has a rich voice and is one of the greatest entertainers of all time, but this isn’t a great album. Favorite songs: Fever What scene does this album paint?: It’s unfortunately so forgettable that I’m unable to paint a visual picture. No file correlations.

This album is a product of its. It has the distinct sound of old music both with the instrumentals and the way the vocals sound. It has some good moments but felt like some of the songs sounded the same as each other.

After some consideration, no private session used for Spotify. I was always more of a Costello than Presley when it came to my Elvi. This album, noting Elvis is back, released in 1960 sounds very fifties to me. I can appreciate his voice, but the music isn't for me.

Good vocals, I mean it’s Elvis, but there is more or less where my praise ends. No stand-out tunes and honestly I was quite bored even though the album length was 30 min. Strong 2.

50s drivel

Of course - it is the well-known Elvis-sound. But I'm quite disappointed because I miss at least one remarkable song or one of his hits. And maybe it is all too old-fashioned for me? 2,5

There are definitely a decent handful of Elvis songs I enjoy. None of them were on this album.

Not his best work. Sure, it's Elvis, but this is not a great album.

This somehow sounds 20 years older than it actually is. Not my favorite Elvis album.

Public Enemy said it best in Fight the Power: "Elvis was a hero to most / But he never meant shit to me". As an angsty teen, this was my go-to stance on Elvis, and I was always eager to go on about it at length. In a time of segregation, Elvis was a commercially viable entity to bring rock 'n' roll and and blues music to a white audience. The core sound and spirit of which originally came from Black artists, many of whom never saw the same recognition or financial success. Elvis stole the limelight from the black artists who had actually created the music. To clarify though, I don't think Elvis the person was necessarily a racist or a thief himself - from what I've heard he was a big fan of the artists and music, and rather than theft, it was more from a place of respect that he wanted to play their music. But that doesn't change how Elvis (the commodity) benefited enormously from systemic racism in the music industry. He got opportunities that many Black musicians, often far more innovative, were denied. OK, we've gotten that out of the way. But it's necessary to understand my position on Elvis, and his legacy. Of course I like Elvis' (early) music, but for all of the reasons above, I could never bring myself to become a fan. Let's talk about the music specifically. This album is far from his best. It feels flat and dull. I know it sits as a key moment in "The Elvis Story", where he was transitioning more towards pop after his military hiatus, but judging this as a standalone album of music, there's nothing spectacular here at all. A lot of bland doo-wop tunes, and besides one higher tempo number ("Dirty, Dirty Feeling"), one bluesy number ("Reconsider Baby") and a strange cover of "Fever", it sits as background music, never interesting enough to fully capture my attention.

Classic, but too old.

5/10 Mostly covers, and not particularly interesting Highlight: Fever

Is he, though?

3 - BAD

Another Elvis album that I enjoy two songs from and don’t mind the rest being on in the background, high 2/5

Even if Elvis isn't my personal favorite in listening pleasure, I cannot deny the impact. He may not have been the best writer in music history (obviously, given how many of his biggest hits were covers). But I think Elvis is a contender for one of the most timeless voices. Tons of artists from his time sound very dated, but if you pop Elvis on at any chill Christmas party or something, his voice flows so well to modern day that it's difficult to skip. Not for my pleasure, but still very important and a discography that I think everyone should listen to at least once

I truly can't fathom the fact that rock and roll went from this to Led Zeppelin 1 in 9 years. Maybe this was good for it's time but after this were the Beatles, Stones, Zep, Hendrix, Floyd. Saying Elvis is one of the best artists is like saying that Wilt Chamberlain is the best basketball player. What they did then is now being done by middle school boys. There's nothing left to enjoy. It's not listening to Newton explaining his first law, it's a professional ball player showing off that he can throw with his left hand. This stuff is C plus work and it was given A's because the rubric was easy. Stealing songs from black people is like getting a foreign exchange student from Canada on your hockey team, or a Spaniard for your soccer team. You get credit for being clever, not for being good.

Elvis is Meh

Like an Elvis impersonator. Then sings about chaining his girl to a wall. Last song is good.

A bit disappointed from my first elvis record on here. Kind of expected not to be thrilled by any innovations since it's a template for so much that came after, but I was hoping that the quality of performances and personnel involved would see it through for me. Instead I just couldn't really get into it. I didn't find the quirks of his voice particularly effective for the material in this case. Kept thinking that I wish I were listening to Sam Cooke perform the same material. Still look forward to more Elvis though.

Maybe I would have liked this in 1960. But being armed with the knowledge of what Elvis does after this makes Elvis is Back seem boring. Its like a collection of B sides or C sides, D sides...

Guess who's back: Back again. It's Elvis, he's back. Back from what you may ask? Mandatory service in The U.S. Army of course, which is as good a reason to slow your artistic output as any. But, as we've already established, Elvis is back, and he has approximately 31 minutes of new material to sustain his horde of admirers. If you've heard an Elvis song, you could probably tell me what this sounds like. Which isn't to say that this is bad, it's just that Elvis is so ingrained in music as a cultural reality that we have a Seinfeld syndrome situation. The 65 years since this came out saw music like Elvis, and the Rock and Roll that he was inspired by being built upon, mutated, stripped back, hardened, baked, fried, and boiled so many times, by so many people, and in so many different ways that I just can't really find Elvis' music exciting. That being said, for the rare situation in which I want to hear an Elvis song, any of these would do, but I just don't really need them *all* together as an album. I will say that Such A Night is unquestionably my favorite here, so I guess I advise you check it out first. But everything here is deeply "Elvis" as well. Basically, for better or worse, this is just 12 Elvis songs in a row, so your mileage may vary depending on your enthusiasm for the idea of listening to 12 Elvis songs in a row.

Deferring any special treatment in Special Services and serving as a regular soldier served the King well. Probably the smartest move by the Colonel to put him in a good light and earn respect from his fellow Americans who may have thought negatively about him. If only the old hound dog hadn't courted a 14 year old while in Germany. Elvis is Back! with this record. His return from the army and to old school rock 'n roll is what I expected here. I am not that into the music era but Presley can carry a tune and cause a swoon. 1.7 stars.

More of what I expect from The King. Evidently I like this era of Elvis a little more than the prior entries. The ensemble of pop rockability love songs with some added accompaniment and backing vocals make it a little more fun than crooning gospel country songs. There was a time and place for this and he was influential no doubt but it does little for me in 2025. Not bad but I don't expect I'll ever listen to this again. 1.80 stars

Back to where? Not the top.

Really? Only 3 Elvis albums in the 1,001 and this clunker is one of them? A so-so collection of songs, but always love me some Fever. Maybe it’s on the list because it’s the first one after getting out of the Army, and right before a string of mostly mediocre (with occasional great tracks) of soundtrack albums that Col. Tom Parker made him do to make money.

Pretty bland. Reading on it I get it must've had an insane amount of hype due to the army break but there's nothing on this that feels mandatory.

Ugh. More Elvis. I just don’t get it. He didn’t even write the songs. I tried. I really did. Just absolute saccharin. Lacks substance.

Elwood Parsley was always more about image than music. Shakin’ Steven’s tried the exact same shtick, and his career shows how well it aged. This album is just boring rock and roll, which has never been my thing. There is maybe one track that is more rootsy / bluesy and is infinitely better than the rest of the doo-wop crap. This is not awful, but it is not good and just cements that whilst this may have been the foundations of modern music, like in buildings, I don’t want to spend time experiencing the foundations when the soaring edifice built on them is so much more enjoyable. There are too many Elvises on this list.

Objleloeoenss Yeah I’m fucking Elvis’s penis yeah. Thank you very much

That version of Fever was anemic lol

I didn't like this. I had to force myself to listen to it though. I get that Elvis like, changed music but I just don't get it. 2 stars for being iconic but really my heart says 1.

on the commute I would usually listen to this album, I listened to "Blue Lips" by ScHoolboy Q, not relevant except it was funny to imagine I was still listening to a 1960 Elvis Presley album.

I like some Elvis but this isn’t his best work.

ugh i just am not the biggest elvis fan.

He's just not for me. 2.4.

It's just boring. Didn't age well considering what music was like just a few years later

The King is boring baby

One Elvis was enough. There will no doubt be more.

I've never found the music of Elvis all that interesting. This did not change my mind. He has a nice voice but the music is so boring.

100% average to below average Elvis. Nothing to replay here. Not even his Fever rendition

Meh. Not very inspiring. Even lacks a big hit of his. 2/5 Won't listen again.

Dull. Appreciate times have changed but Elvis was away for 2 plus years, this was the big comeback?! A bunch of soulless covers and insipid love songs.

But boring

Elvis was deemed a danger to the US for promoting black artists and fostering cultural connection between black and white people during a time of great civil unrest. He was stationed in Germany and spent lots of time around high ranking military personnel, got introduced to his wife and came home after a few years. This album was his triumphant return to the spotlight. As far as the music goes, it's Elvis. As per the usual, couple of covers that I don't prefer his version of, some fun voice stuff and well produced sound. Unfortunately, I just don't care about the music that much. I have a copy of the 2018 version of this book and mostly it talks about how big of a deal it was that he was back, making music again. Other than the cultural moment surrounding this album, there's nothing interesting for me to say about the music. What IS interesting is the theories that Elvis was different when he came back stateside. There are even theories he was exposed to mind altering drugs like LSD in order to attempt to brainwash him and become even more of a US military asset. I don't know if I believe all that, but it makes sense for the military to draft him at the height of his popularity, get him inside their circle, make friends with him and change his viewpoints to more align with what the US wants for their citizens, not what the citizens want for the US.

Admittedly not my favorite Elvis.

Pas écouté mais 2 pour la hate

It's fine, but I'm yet to hear an Elvis album which felt like an album. You could take a random assortment of any of his albums and smash them together and it would work just as well as an album as this does. Might've been interesting 60/70 years ago, but it's rather unremarkable now.

listened to this while washing my face so i didnt pay attention to the lyrics a lot besides fever and girl of my best friends but deffo a jazzy-esque(?) album

"I'm gonna chain you to the wall". What the‽ That's fucked up even for 1960.

Not my favorite Elvis album.

To say I’m well over half way through this process I think that this is the first Elvis album I’ve been served up. Does this mean he has less albums on the list than the more famous 😉 Elvis AKA Elvis Costello? I say all this because despite all the plaudits the more older Elvis has and his historical place in the annals of music, I am totally ambivalent towards him and if he had never existed I wouldn’t have missed him. But that raises the question of if Elvis P had never existed would we have music today in its present form and would I have the same musical heroes responsible for all my favourite albums? One to chew over whilst listening to this album. At the conclusion I’m still at a loss as to how any of Elvis’s stuff influenced all the musical greats. But I’m an imbecile without any musical talent so what do I know? But I know what I like and this does not include this album. My gut instinct is one star but with a nod to those who know better I’ll stretch to 2. 2/5 1/8/25

I am very bothered by the way he pronounces "reminisce" as "riminesce"

Like Elvis but this isn't a great album
