Reviews (page 12 of 12)

It's fine but a little too old-timey for me.

I thought I would hate this, but it's not that bad. I don't like it, but I understand why people do or did. Probably more did than do, because it sounds very outdated. There's a charm to it like to little kids drawing stick figures. Favorite song: Honey Chile.

if I was honest, I found this was unremarkable

Very one-note, interesting to hear how a lot of the progressions within blues have changed and how the cliches sounded at the time vs blues now.

Really annoying to have to go search these songs individually on YouTube. Which isn't Fats's fault, but didn't help with the enjoyment of the album. The songs were okay, I guess.

Bit dated now…

It was probably a great album once, but to my ears now it sounds kinda boring.

Not convinced. Good vocalist. Sounds I like. Play for Remy.

Not my everyday cup of tea, but it's cool

No my thing One good song that I liked

Some fun tracks, although half the songs are unavailable on Spotify for me.

Propulsive, but somewhat forgettable.

Couldn’t get away with this sadly. I really like this kind of music and have listened to and liked other things by FD, but this on a whole didn’t do much for me!

Great voice and knew a few songs. Didn't mind it but not really my thing. Probably wouldn't listen again

Non-christmas themed christmas music...

not really a fan

Not really what I wanted. Old blues. Not bad, but not really what I like.

I enjoy these old-timey songs so even if the songs get very same-y at some point I still enjoy the aesthetics/vibe of them

It's decent, just not really my style. I appreciate it more than I like it, if that makes sense.

Unlike wine or cheese... well, we'll leave it at that.

Pretty nice! "Blueberry Hill" is a classic, though "Honey Chile," "Reeling and Rocking," and "Blue Monday" are some other faves.

Yeahhhh I don’t get it.

i mean, apple music did not have

Very of it's time, but not something I can listen to.

Only half the album was on Spotify.

Too archaic (sound quality included) for me to appreciate in any other manner than the historical one.

The full album is not on Spotify, but I'm absolutely not a fan of this kind of music and I don't think the 6 missing tracks would have made a difference.

Hard to rate as Spotify doesn't have the whole album but it sounded good. I like Blueberry Hill from 12 monkeys

Wasn't impressed by his voice. I'm sure it was revolutionary at the time, but this 50s stuff I just can't get into.

I love Fats Domino just as much as anyone with functioning ears. The man deserves more love than he currently gets. That being said, albums weren't exactly where he focused his efforts. This collection of songs starts off pretty good, but the second half doesn't really stand on its own. I'd recommend the "Fats Domino Swings" album instead, which has all of his biggest and best hits (including "Ain't That A Shame"). Also, it's on spotify!

Well, historic album. Great piano playing but I wouldn't listen to it by choice

All tracks weren't available in spotify, at least in my country but for what i heard (8 tracks) there is nothing really special here.

Straight ahead blues rock n roll piano. Might have been ground breaking once, but now it's just well executed and sung big band 50s rock n roll.

One of those albums where I can 100% see why it's on here for historical significance. It's not a bad album by any stretch but it's also not terribly interesting in a "Seinfeld is unfunny" kind of way.

Super boppy and a very bluesy album overall. This style of music would have been a staple at numerous parties and events from the late 50s onwards. Best: Blueberry Hill Worst: The Fat Man's Hop Spotify did not have the entire album, had to resort to finding the songs on YouTube to complete my listen.

Look I love Blueberry Hill, sung along with this one. But the rest just sound the same...Sorry Chubby only 2 stars

Not my cup, but I recognize how big this must have been back then to have sold 65 million records.

fats domino

Enjoyed hearing some familiar melodies and definitely understand how this kind of artist built the foundation for pop music. Would like to explore this genre and style more- clearly a lot of vocal and instrumental talent is requires. That being said it is quite simple and paired back in today's standards so I probably will not revisit often.

Not my jam

Is this a best of? Fats Domino an important figure in rock and roll and listening to this was enjoyable, but only to a point and I say with a great deal of certainty that I will never revisit his album.

Fats greatest hits! What a treat! What a bastard treat.

Is this a best of? Fats Domino an important figure in rock and roll and listening to this was enjoyable, but only to a point and I say with a great deal of certainty that I will never revisit his album.

Interesting from a music history perspective but that's it.

All good songs but they all sound the same.

Quaint and bopping. I could imagine dancing to this in poodle skirt at a soda fountain. This is the album that “created rock and roll” right? I suppose it deserves more stars and credit for that, ahead of its time and stuff. “So Long” and “Blue Monday” were particularly Valium soft and slow and enjoyable. But ultimately rock has evolved so far beyond this it seems rudimentary.

It was fine

Couldn't get on with it even though there are classic songs on it.

my grandma use to sing me blueberry hill. not my kind of music, but it could be fun background listening.

Wasn't able to listen to the whole album since it wasn't available. Nonetheless, a fun little early R&B album but nothing that really stood out to me

Not bad, but not my style.

Meh jazz, didn’t really listen to all the songs

Couldn't get the whole album. This style of music as never done it for me.

early R&B/Jazz. cool to hear the roots, hard to get excited about this kind of music today though. sounds much the same as a lot of artists in this genre in this era

Fav: same as everyone else’s Blueberry Hill L: Blue Monday 1 With respect to Fats and his contribution to the music world, I did not enjoy this one. It’s a cool piece of history but the recording hit a similar nerve as the Orange Juice one. The rhythm piano was especially grating to me and it was in like every song. I think part of my problem with it is just the limitations of the recording in that era. Album Cover: 2 I guess this was before they really tried but Fats has a great smile so that boosts it up. Album Title: 1.5 I guess this was also before they thought about naming albums

I do not frick with rock and roll. It's mostly pretty annoying. I like some bits that are a little more bluesy or jazzy, but then I may as well listen to blues or jazz. And the audio quality wasn't very good. It kind of hurt my ears, and not in a based noise rock or harsh noise kind of way. Maybe it's a harsh rating, idk. But I yam what I yam. 1/5

Aw he such unnie chubbie bunny kawaii fat

Rock'n'roll before rock'n'roll started rocking. Blueberry Hill being his signature song kinda says it all

No me apareció en Spotify no hay like

Good album.

Unfortunately, I was not a fan.

I’m sure this was groundbreaking in 1957 - but it really doesn’t connect with me at all

Me aburrí y no pude terminarlo

👎🏻

Not as intriguing as expected. Blah 1960s early crooner.

Not my era. This music is just silly. Obviously inspired by the environment this generation grew up in, post WWII when everything seemed to be on the up and up. No Cold War vibes just money, drink and women. Makes me feel sad.

i’m not going to listen to compilation albums

Not for me. 1/5

Ikke fundet

Also not for me

Säger mig ingenting. Etta

Half the album was greyed out and unavailable. I could hear "Blueberry Hill" in Richie Cunningham's voice.

My grandma probably would’ve really liked this if she wasn’t racist. Love you gma. However, not for me at all. It sounds old. It feels old. And I don’t like it.

Not british BUT that doesnt excuse it I dont vibe with 50s music

Blueberry Hill Blue Monday

No disrespect

That's not nice.

Couldn’t find album.

2 old for me bruh

Not my jam

I specifically didn't ask for Jazz/Soul/Funk. I feel bad for having to give a review...

No me gusta

Good mixing for that time, musical not outstanding

fun and funky but not really my thing. I can see its appeal but not my style. I really enjoyed Blueberry Hill

Just not for me, despite its historical significance. Just sounds like an old movie to me.

After about, oh, I don't know, 59 seconds, I feel like I've heard everything Fats Domino has ever recorded. Why would I endure an entire album?

Obese Domino, with the voice only a fat man could have, is ok compared to other music of the 50's. It feels a bit hokey but some catchy riffs here and there. Most songs sound the same, don't need to explore further.

Meh. Better than some of the 50s stuff we've heard but nothing special. I get that it was a different time in music but everything sounds so similar. There is little to differentiate it. Would have been down to chill with the fat man though. 1.05 stars

A delightful record that I would only listen to again if I start this project over again.

So Fats Domino is not Chubby Checker. I did not get to do the twist, and it ruined my day. One Star.

not my kind of music

1. blueburry hill - 2 2. honey chile - 1 3. uuhatz the reazon - 1 4. blue monday - 1.5 5. zo long - 1 6. la la - 1 7. going home - 1 8. mardi graz - 1

Fats wasn’t for me, Domino also wasn’t for me…

Meh... fyrir utan þetta eina verulega góða lag.

Pretty boring stuff, but at least the production is shitty.

You can hear that this album was recorded in the span of five years. There’s absolutely no cohesion musically or production wise. It says “Story of Soul” in the top right of the cover. I first read it as “Story of Sad”. I feel the latter is more appropriate.

Too heavy for me

Echt gedateerd

Boring

Couldn't access it on streaming.

album was not on apple music

not my cuppa tea ngl

An oldie but a…meh.

dont like this bruhv

Anyone who loves nothing more than winding down their window whilst driving and belting out whatever modern music they’re into at the time is really not going to dig this. He plays a trumpet...big deal! The music is so dated and not enjoyable at all. Remove it from this list please...for everyone’s sake.

Sorry Fats Domino, you win points for Blueberry Hill but it just ain't my scene. Good Fallout music, but I can't see myself ever listening to anything but the first track again.

Classic 50s bops.
