Reviews (page 10 of 11)

Pretty fun stuff!

The short length of each tracks either serves the songs to be concise and memorable, or they fail to grab interest. A decent, if forgettable, jazz record.' BEST TRACKS: Blueberry Hill, Blue Monday WORST TRACKS: La La, You Done Me Wrong

Didn't finish it. Not my cup of tea but the music is not bad.

Eh. very early Rock and Roll stuff. Kinda fun, very different era

Fats Domino is always good to hear.

Some good old-fashioned rock & roll. Enjoyed the first couple of songs, but then it got a little repetitive.

Swingy but boring at some point.

Could be worse Highlight tracks: 3, 6, 12

Decent, bluesy swingy, really enjoyed it, never heard of him. 3/5

Great stuff. Not really an album, but a load of enjoyable hits.

A few good songs but honestly feels more historically important than actually good a lot of the time.

Great album

It is what it is but its nice.

Yeah oldies rock n roll stuff. Fun little listen. 3/5.

Real rating 3.5

Although I tend to group Fats Domino with other blues players, I found this a lot simpler than other albums by blues players that I've heard. Simple is not necessarily a bad thing, but here I was expecting a bit more from him. I respect Fats Domino because he broke so much ground as a rock and roll artist. I might put this on again, maybe as background music. It's just not hitting me emotionally.

Pioneering stuff. Clean production. More varied than the songs popular on the radio would suugest.

The reason most of us have heard of Fats is because of Blueberry Hill or Ain’t That a Shame, neither of which I've liked much, so I wasn’t looking forward to this review. But I was pleased that the rest of the album has a nice feel to it, especially the more up-tempo tracks and the accompanying sax. Apparently, he’d said that he was nothing special or new, he was just playing the New Orleans R&B that had been kickin’ around for 15 years. Of the artists I know from that era, they were edgier (and arguably, had better voices) but Fats had a more radio-friendly sound and was an endearing live performer. As a side note, the 1001 YouTube playlist has none of the same songs of the 1001 Spotify playlist.

The issue with listening to highly influential and groundbreaking music is that you need to put yourself back to the period that it came out to appreciate just how new and innovative it was back in the day because folks would copy this new style so it gets lost in history. Fats was in this category. So although I wouldn’t seek this out to listen to it, I recognize it for being groundbreaking

Spicy spicy dicey dicey! Jazz music was nice not my forte.

Interesting as a milestone in the history of rock - but not sure I'd listen to it too much for pleasure

Rock and roll clásico

Quite liked this, not my normal listening genre but still it was enjoyable and you can see where early rock and roll/jive/blues has its roots

I don’t really know how to rate this. I recognise that this is important in music history but I didn’t engage with it at all.

good singer

alright, not a heavy rotation one

would like to bop to in a 50s dancehall

Very enjoyable New Orleans grooves that hook you in instantly. The more raucous they are the better IMO, for that street parade kinda feel. Can't work out if I've heard Blueberry Hill before but it's got the feel of a timeless classic to it. A genre I wouldn't choose to listen to very often, but when I do maybe this'll be my go-to album. 3.5.

He's not THAT fat. Enjoyed the album. Poor Me was my highlight, so it's a shame that wasn't available on Spotify.

Classics. Building blocks of rock.

Foundational pieces to rock and roll that do not have the energy of Bo Diddley.

Wasn't crazy about the album, but I know if I was seeing this live I'd enjoy it much more

Songs were shorter than what I am used to from this style of music, but each song has a unique feel. Decent listen, but I will be adding a handful to my jazz and blues playlists.

The true king. This is the R&B teaching Rock and Roll how it should sound.

I like and respect what he does but probably not my cup of tea on a regular basis. Great soft voice

It's impossible to not love Fats Domino. I can picture myself in a bar in New Orleans right now listening to this album. Favorite Tracks: "Blueberry Hill" "Blue Monday"

It's tricky to rate this album. I don't think the full album is on Spotify, so I'm not sure if I'm rating this correctly. Still the songs I did hear were all pretty good. Nothing really stood out except the big hit "Blueberry Hill". Still not too bad. I bet it was more impactful when it came out.

That is Fats

Spotify won't let me listen to half the album for some reason but the first half was good.

Good fun … just know them all without consciously seeking them out

Good album, nice style

Classic music which reminded me of all the fallout games. Great, unlikely to listen too again but still very solid

Fats Domino is a legend, and his piano tunes are toe-tapping in this solid album. Blueberry Hill is one of my all time favorite songs. Unfortunately, at being 65 years old, the album is definitely hindered by its age to stand out.

Nothing wrong with some old school rock and roll.

its ok.

Incredible R&B energy and sound. These guys really were mugged off from their own music.

Really nice, easy listening. Not something I think I'd go out of my way to listen to again though.

Funky. Made me feel classy

Some very, very good rock'n'roll. Unfortunately, I'm just never crazy into pre-60s rock, no matter how good it is. All in all a nice and listenable record, but nothing that draws me in significantly.

Lovely stuff - it’s rock n roll baby

lovely stuff

Liked everything on here. 2 or 3 absolute crackers

not sure how to classify him... r&b? Rock? Soul (is that its own thing?) it's all right -- got a little rhythm to it I'll call it R&B -- I guess it's the ORIGINAL Rock!! 3/5, although it might grow on me and get a better score later...

Great name for a person. It takes swagger to call yourself an obese name and make it cool. Fats Domino. Minnesota Fats. Matt's old cat JJ. I really like Domino's locomotive shuffle. Really stands out compared to other 50s rock n rollers I've heard, which is basically Little Richard and Elvis. I'd put this on again while making eggs on a Sunday. B

Fun stuff, good background music. Good porch-sitting-beer-drinking music.

Nice, but not my taste

old school boogie woogie. is it good? is it bad? more of a pleasant artifact than something I can truly get into.

Best gezellig.

I lost interest after a few songs. They all started to sound the same

3.5 - Love the vibe and the sound. Long live Fats.

Hail Fats! Especially Garland Jeffreys gives more than: 2.5

I didn’t realize Fats Domino was such a popular early rock ‘n roll artist. Also didn’t know he was from New Orleans. Good listen.

Half the album not available on Spotify. Nice old school rock and roll.

Great voice, super old style of music that doesn't do it for me now. Historic influencer of Elvis and many others... just not my speed today.

Note: I could not find the titled album, so I listened to his "Greatest Hits: Walking To New Orleans" instead. This is another one of those cases where something is important for historical reasons but not necessarily good by modern standards. Yes, Fats Domino was a very influential person in musical history and I don't mean to downplay his skills or contributions at all, but this album simply did not do it for me. To start, the actual quality of the recording is very poor by modern standards. On my modern hi-fi system, it still sounded like I was listening to a cheap wonky jukebox in a 50's diner somewhere. Maybe the masters are simply low quality and cannot be improved upon, but any sort of restoration attempt would be greatly appreciated. The music itself falls into the Seinfeld trap: it may have been innovative when it first came out, but now that it's been copied and iterated on a million times, the originals feel quaint, dated, and cliched.

I'm totally not into these type of "oldies", but will give it a 3-star rating because "Blueberry Hill" is a fine song.

Lots unavailable on Spotify.

Unfortunately Spotify only has about half of the album. What I heard I liked!

Couldn't access full album

Why did I think Fats was only jazz and not bebop?

every song sound kinda same, but its cool

Short, uplifting rock-and-roll songs, old-school!

Classic rock blues, but not something I'll listen to often.

1. Really cool intro song, I love the chorus a lot. I like how the drums are the last element to stop playing too. 2. The accenting of the beats is cool, and I think the overall instrumental is pretty nice. 3. Felt short, but the bass on it is really cool, as high pitched as it is. 4. Piano really accents the entire song, love it. 5. Laid back groove, like it a lot. 6. Liked it. 7. Liked it as well. 8. Nice song. 9. Horns pop off in this one. 10. Interesting piano part, I love how it kind of sets up the song at the start. 11. Cool song. 12. Liked it.

This was pleasant.

Only because some songs couldn’t be played in Spotify.

Ok but kinda boring compared to rock and roll

Interesting to hear and learn about the artist and that time but nothing more

Love Fats' voice and his range; from upbeat to soulful. Superb piano and timing at 1:08 on "La La". A showcase in finger dexterity! Would have to be in a certain mood to play this so will rate 3/5.

Not bad but not amazing 6.5/10

Interessante, musicalidade da época, agradável demais, leve.

rock n roll meh

A 50’s artist I’ve always fucked with. Fats was that dude

Sadly not all songs were available but still fun

5/10 FT: Blueberry hill

Nice, easy soul and blues

Closer to a 3.5. Very energetic, which I appreciate. Take my rating with a grain of salt, as half the album is missing from spotify

Not my type

Not my kind of thing. Not terrible, just would never go out of my way to listen to it again

Grand yet every song pretty much sounds the same. Uneventful

Not my style, need to listen again after Im more comfortable with blues.

I don't want to cast doubt that I think this was bad. Just not my style. I know for the time it was released it pushed the envelope and Fats is one of the great Fathers of RnR. I'm just more of a Lil Richard kinda guy

I'm really trying with these 50s albums, and I understand that they might be groundbreaking and the first of their kind, but that doesn't mean they're enjoyable to listen to. I sat through all of it and didn't recognise a single song, so I don't really know what to say.

Good background music. The individual tracks all blurred together for me, and nothing stood out. Maybe good for its time but I feel I've heard better blues music. Nothing bad about it though. 2 stars.

No aportó mucho a mi vida

Not all that interesting to me

Good music for the time period, but it is extremely dated. A good quick listen that I enjoyed while it was on, but won’t be going back to it any time soon.

Un blues bien viejo. No está mal. No me partió la cabeza tampoco.

It's not bad, I mean. But not WOW.

While I understand that Fats Domino is perhaps the ur-example of mainstream Rock & Roll and early R&B, so he's pretty foundational to modern popular music. You can definitely hear that a lot isn't built yet. And being in the 50s we're still very much in the "collection of tracks" rather than "coherent album" territory and that's definitely true here. This albums peaks early with the opening two songs "Blueberry Hill," and "Honey Chile" being far better than the rest.

Didn’t hate it, wouldn’t pick it. VERY dated. Just not my thing. 2/5

meh not my type

Snooze

great fallout soundtrack

This one is a victim of time for me. Just too old, man. With the exception of Blueberry Hill I didn’t care much for it.

This is just about *the* quintessential picture of the one-trick pony. It's a good trick. But that's it. That's all there is. I've called out some Same-Song Artists on this list. This the ring leader of the Same-Song All-Stars. I like it! It's a good song! But why must I listen to a whole damn album? Gets old quick. 2 & 1/2

Very nice songs overall, but listening to the whole album one after the other is... boring. They're all pretty much similar, and it's making me crazy

Not for me

If you want a good early rock and roll record listen to Here's Little Richard, now that's got some energy to it.

3/10 Probably good if I was born in the 40’s. The day it ended.

Very american. It's ok.

Definitely interesting but I think this is just too old timey sounding to really get into it

This classic and vintage rock and roll music takes me back to the basics. I can almost picture myself in a bar in the 1950s, listening to this music.

Good old swing music. Wonder if he’s Corey in the House’s grandfather, damn they look similar.

5/10 - it's alright in the background, of its time

LOVED IT OLIDEIS WOW

Influencing everyone from Elvis to the Beatles, I was looking forward to spending some time with Fats for the very first time time this morning. As scandalous as I'm sure this would have sounded to the general population seventy years ago, time has removed a lot of edge from Domino's music. What you are left with here is a collection of old school rock and roll that is still pleasant enough to enjoy for this LP's very brief runtime, even though it is ultimately forgettable. I was expecting this to be more fiery and energetic, but its a laid-back affair with Domino's warm voice and piano leading the songs. The influence of Fats may be undeniable, I'm in no rush to check out any more of his stuff.

Some blues, some rock, some soul sounds, but basically he's a crooner. Short stuff for radio - yawn.

Sorta what feels like the Ed Sheeran of his time, popular in what he wrote and is catchy in certain parts but doesn't hold much substance when diving deeper

most of it wasnt on spotify so i only got to listen to a portion. just not for me.

good for background use lol but kinda enjoying though i wasn't paying attention, thus 2 stars (must revise later this)

Not necessarily my taste but also don’t super dislike it.

not so bad. got a little bored by the end, just nudged the score down. favorite song was So Long

Rating: 5/10 I'm not even sure I listened to the right thing. Whatever the collection of songs I listened to actually is, he's a talented old timey guy. Don't think I'll become a of Fats

A little annoying at the beginning, pretty grating by the end. Wasn't vibing with this one 3.7/10

Not really my bag

Pas trop mon style, mais dansant

253/1089 the music is good/alright, as an album i can’t say i really cared for it much but it was a nice vibe to listen to fave: Trust In Me 31/100

I understand the huge impact Fats Domino had on rock and roll but nearly 70 years later this just feels like generic blues/rock. Many of the songs sound very very similar. It has its place in history but for me doesn't really hold up today.

Not an overly appealing sound to me. I'm gonna pass on fats. I respect the hustle, but it just aint for me.

Meh. That being said, Blueberry Hill

Well, I had to piece this album together on Deezer from various other albums, so who knows if I gave it the proper listening it deserved. This is run-of-the-mill boogie woogie that probably made a few people smile back in 1957. It's an amiable enough listen, but nothing that I find really interesting or exciting.

This seems historically important. But so is the decline of the Holy Roman Empire and yet that doesn't appear on a list of albums I'm supposed to listen to. Blue Monday is the only song I would conceive of listening to again voluntarily. I'm giving a generous 2 because he was thoughtful enough to make these songs only 2 minutes long.

2.5 Stars - half the album was unlisted on Spotify but wasn't bad from what i'd heard.

Doododoooo good vibes yadayada

I’m torn because it was fun to listen to and I liked what’s the reason I’m not pleasing you a lot but I probably won’t think to put this on again…

It swings, it rocks and it rolls but it's a bit too dated for me.

While Fats Domino may be an influential singer, especially in the transition of soul into rock, this album is mostly filler surrounding Blueberry Hill.

Was probably good before all other music existed

Wider Pre-60er jahr.

Enjoyable listen, but not something I'd revisit.

I have to be really in the mood for this, or watching a period piece or something. Otherwise it’s kinda boring to me

Not for me lmao

Kinda boring, not my thing.

Objectively good and talented but just not the type of music I am drawn to listen to

i have nothing to say

this couldve been an email

because it's so old i found it hard to enjoy fully. pretty sure i listened to the wrong album, as well

Not really my cup of tea, and I say this at risk of repeating myself, but it was mostly a background music for me that day, sorry... :/

Like working at Happy Harry’s all over again

About half of this album was unavailable on Spotify, but I did manage to find a complete YouTube playlist from a user called "1001 Albums Journey" who must have encountered the same issue 8 years ago. Anyway, another one to file under "appreciate having heard it but have no desire to revisit". Sounds like exactly the sort of thing you'd hear in a smoke-filled dive bar.

Domino wasn’t fat. He was heavily pregnant with rock’n’roll. And his discography is the sound of a slow, pained labour. Yes, this interstitional between pre-rock’n’roll and rock’n’roll has some of the lush, horny orchestration of swing, but it don’t swing. It has some of the unthinking simplicity of rock’n’roll, but it don’t rock. It is the worst of both impulses - big band, with a small band; rock with needless ornaments. Rhythmically leaden, harmonically unsophisticated. Sure, Domino is a charmingly staid presence, but he can hear him gritting his teeth, quelling them screams, the pangs, the tears, the abjection of birth. Within him, a rough beast turns and twists, dragging his slouched body to Memphis to be born. But he is trying to ignore it this whole time - like in Eastenders, when the teenage Sonia didn’t even realise she was pregnant until it was too late. 2 Fats Domino has an interesting voice. It has a quality of surprise at finding itself singing; unshowy, slightly flat but game. The piano playing, when audible, is good too and there are unexpected delights from the rest of the band; the guitar on Reeling and Rocking, the odd drag of the drums on So Long, the horns on Trust in Me. The songs aren’t bad - procedural maybe but I appreciate how much they pack in in their unassuming 2 minutes each. I enjoyed listening to this - a nice surprise. Although it will be a while yet until I am over Vladimir Putin’s version of Blueberry Hill. 2.5/5

Some interesting bits to this but it all sort of went over my head.

Play me some of that old surf rock.

I am simply not interested in this type of music. I dont like this late 50‘s early 60‘s sound and probally never will.

I’m not a huge fan of early rock and roll. I knew Blueberry Hill. It was fine. It was nice and short, but nothing great in my opinion.

I see it, but my mind is not blown

Album #28 Fats Domino: This Is Fats Domino I ended up listening to Fats Domino Swings since I couldn’t find the other album, and it just seemed like a compilation album anyway. Swings seemed to have most of his memorable songs, so I went with that one. An album that is really more essential to listen to for its influence rather than how well it has held up. That isn’t to say it’s not an enjoyable experience, but even less than 10 years after this came out, music had evolved so much to the point that this just seems glaringly outdated compared to music from the mid-60s, which, to me at least, holds up tremendously. But when listening to this album, you can hear the groundwork forming for what would make up much of the rock and roll movement. There are some lovely and timeless songs here, though the production will forever hold it back from appealing to modern audiences. Funnily enough, a few months ago I watched the movie 12 Monkeys, in which the song Blueberry Hill was a prominent part of the plot; and just a few days ago I watched Marty Supreme, in which Timothee Chalamet and Tyler The Creator, ghost ride the whip to the song The Fat Man. So it seems that Fats has remained an icon for his era, as both those movie plots centre around the 50s in some way. Best Songs: Blueberry Hill, Ain’t That A Shame, The Fat Man Worst Song: Bo Weevil Score out of 10: 5.5

boring yawning

It's fine. Nothing to grab on to.

blueberry hill is one of the most important rock records of all time but after about 10 minutes of 50s diner rock i swear i've been listening to the same song the entire time and the playlist is just gaslighting me

OVERALL: This is pretty mediocre, a lot of the instrumentals were basically loops with a solo halfway in between, and his singing is fine but a little stale. I know this was made almost 70 years ago, but there are other albums from around this time that are pretty good and more consistent than this. A lot of the songs aren't mixed very well, and don't have interesting lyrics. They don't sound that bad, but they don't really sound impressive enough in any aspect to be something that you must hear. I guess Blue Monday and Blueberry Hill are good enough? SONG AVG: 5.77083333/10 PERSONAL RATING: 5/10 Blueberry Hill: Pretty catchy, although the lyrics are extremely simple. Nice singing and trumpets, I like the fusion of R&B and rock. Unfortunately, it's really short and very simple. The drums are basically the same for the whole song. 8/10 Honey Chile: I just realized how short this album is. This is shorter than a lot of 'interludes' I've heard, so there isn't much to judge. More interesting lyrics than Blueberry Hill, but the instrumentals are definitely worse. I still like the jazz stuff, but it's so repetitive that it gets kinda stale after a few seconds. 5.25/10 What's The Reason (I'm Not Pleasing You): Are all of these songs the exact same thing? The instrumental is repetitive, but it's more interesting than Honey Chile. There isn't anything special here other than the sax solo, which is pretty good so that's nice. His vocals are kinda stale. 6/10 Blue Monday: Blueberry Hill but more interesting in every way. Pretty nice energy, very catchy and great instrumentals. 9/10 So Long: Might as well be an instrumental track, but the instrumental isn't that bad. Still not much going on. 7.5/10 La La: Horrendous mixing, sounds like someone is playing this in an apartment below me while I'm trying to sleep. Also, it's fairly annoying. It doesn't sound that bad, I guess. 3.75/10 Troubles Of My Own: So forgettable. Nice solo I guess. 4/10 You Done Me Wrong: There is one verse, the rest is just Fats screaming OH OH OH OH. I like the instrumental, but the oh's are way too distracting and not mixed well. 4/10 Reeling And Rocking: His vocals are way too loud, but it's pretty good other than that. 6.75/10 The Fat Man's Hop: Pretty nice instrumental, and that's it. There are no lyrics. 6.5/10 Poor, Poor Me: It's so mid. 5/10 Trust in Me: This is the longest song on the album, and it's under 3 minutes. I guess it's interesting, but the solos are not that good and the end is pretty annoying. 4/10

Not my type of music, everything pretty samey.

5 / 10

Made me want to play backgammon.

Just kinda tough to get into man

Recognised more than I expected to but not really my taste.

didn’t really listen properly so maybe my fault i found it boring 17/12

Not my cuppa

old classic stuff that sounds like it

I'm sure it's historically significant, but I seriously doubt it'll get much more play for me.

that was it? fun I guess. reminds me swing dancing with **. two

3.0/10

After a couple of tracks became a bit boring

pretty good. i like the piano it was fun and upbeat. not something i see myself returning to though

Decent jazzy album but struggles from a lack of variety.

I listened to it twice and still can’t remember it.

A thorough exploration of a few chord structures and musical ideas. I do like this kind of mellow bluesy rock and roll and it would have been amazing to hear live, but the recordings are showing their age and nothing really stood out.

Not my style, but I can appreciate how important the artist and music was/is. Listening 2 stars, respect 5 stars.

I wonder what current music will be so much of its time that it cannot possibly make it out of its own era…

Day 67 Voice as smooth as butter but not an album I’d return to. Good but not for me 5/10 Highlights Blueberry Hill

nothing music

Some old albums feel timeless but this just felt kind of old. 50s music is not a preferred genre for me. The lyrics are kinda simplistic and boring

Nice, simple fun listen, but I don't see myself coming back to it very often, if at all. Pretty basic stuff, but still interesting to see where rock was at before it really came into what it's perceived as today.

I see why this was popular, but it didn't really do much for me.

This is fun stuff, and obviously important music. The building blocks for so much that came after is here. That said, I just can't get into pre-Beatles rock 'n' roll. It's a nice listen, but rarely goes deeper than that for me. Standout Track(s): Blueberry Hill, What's the Reason I'm Not Pleasing You

Okay album. Not really my cup of T...i'd give it a 2/5 or a 5/10

Meh, that's the general feeling I get when listening to this record. I understand the importance of Fats Domino's boogie-woogie piano playing style on early rock (and roll), but man, this is plain dull and repetitive. Also, I'm not charmed of his so called laid-back, but to me almost sleepy, voice either. Not for me. Early rock 'n roll is not my thing, but I rather listen to Little Richard or Jerry Lee Lewis than this. 1 star for his importance, and one more for the fact that, luckily, this record lasted for only 26 minutes. 2/5

Too 50s

Fats has a beautiful and powerful voice. Not really my kinda music but I enjoyed parts of it. Favorite track: The Rooster Song

Boring?

Placeholder #2 - gotta get to it but it's not available for streaming.

A nice little album. Nothing crazy from my listening, but I can see the influence on future artists, but not something I'll come back to. 2.5/5.

Fats by stage name. Skimps by nature. Outside of Blueberry Hill and Blue Monday i.e songs with ‘blue’ in the title, this album is more like a size zero when it comes to real essential highlights. Such boring, hokey and madly dated bread and butter 50s rock and roll but no butter because that’s too calorific and just a crumb of bread please. Original cover has got good Jack Torrance at a typewriter energy though.

Background noise

nothing special 2me

I can appreciate the influence but I'm not waking up in the morning thinking hey let me play that Fats Domino banger Fav song: Blue Monday (NEW ORDER REFERENCE?!)

Better than Elvis

I guess this must be very early rock and roll because this was mostly piano and horn instruments, which doesn’t exactly sound like rock and roll to me. The first half sounded like department store music. I was bored. The 2nd half was better but not by much.

Not at all a fan but he looks nicd

Dinner music, like music you put on at real low volume.

I get why it's on the list, but not for me. I quite liked the lyrics, but it didn't keep my interest very well aside from that.

Definitely sounds dated. Not my cup of tea.

I wouldn’t have usually ventured into this, but it was enjoyable. I guess that is the whole point of this generator. Grooves, catchy tunes and just generally pleasant. Not sure how many times I’d revisit it, but that doesn’t detract from its validity.

I didn't hate it but it was boring. Blueberry Hill set the tone with it's lazy, laid back, sleepy sound and it rarely picked up after that. I appreciate the influence he gave to other bands but quite frankly all they did was throw in a guitar, drum kit and 100% more effort and enthusiasm.

This is unfortunately a bit boring - understand how it would've been influential but much prefer this style with a more energetic singer, this ends up sounding quite dull.

Whenever I give music like this a low rating it makes me feel very uncultured. That’s not Fats’s problem though.

A bit too 50s pop for me

I'm not saying that Fats didn't have it going on back in his day, but as far as old school Rock n' Roll goes, this was one of them. Fine, but hard to imagine anyone getting too worked up for this one other than to scratch a pseudo-nostalgic itch while eating a milkshake or something. This one slid right off my brain, and for that it gets a 2

It was ok

Swing jazz. But boring. 2/5

not bad!

Giver mig tidlig Beatles vibes. Som “you’ve really got a hold on me”, som jeg ikke kan huske hvem har lavet oprindeligt Og faktisk også “that will be the day”

“This Is Fats Domino” es un álbum que adelantaba el sonido del R&B, soul e incluso rock que llegaría a su punto álgido en las siguientes décadas y pudo servir de referencia a artistas como Elvis Presley o Paul McCartney. El disco lo componen melodías alegres y letras que abordan temas como el amor o la vida cotidiana. Sin ser un sonido de mi agrado, considero que es un proyecto bien trabajado, que suena realmente bien y la voz del artista es muy agradable de escuchar.

Maybe could be on low in the background. I see the talent, but the recording is nearly 70 years old and it shows. Glad to have listened to it once. I found no thrills here.

Cool, I liked one of the middle tracks and the one near the end with the whistling, but not enough to want. Decent though. 2.5/5 stars.

Maybe pretty good at the time (?) but I won't be revisiting this one

1. Poor Me 2. So Long 3. What's The Reason I'm Not Pleasing You

Not for me

Honestly I’m sort of annoyed that a compilation record counts as an “album that must be listened to before I die”. That said, I don’t hate the songs on here at all, but I’ll never search them out. This record feels like the equivalent of not changing the station when something comes on that you don’t care about, but you just quit paying attention instead of putting in the hard work of changing the channel. I dunno. I feel like this is just on the cusp of being enjoyable, but just falls short for me. The only thing that would probably save this for me would be a nostalgic connection, but I don’t have that, so, maybe this is a sort of disingenuous 2 for me. I feel like it’s not actually bad enough to warrant a 2, but it’s not a 3 for me either. 2.8, maybe? I just don’t want to round up.

I don't hate it, but it sounds so dated.

Blueberry Hill Good for 1957

I didn't like this as much as I expected to. Most of the songs sound pretty similar, so if I was seeking swing/big band, this isn't the album I'd revisit.

I know it’s kind of classic stuff, but today it’s just one of those albums you didn’t even notice was on, and then it ended.

nothing to say really

Começo do rock and roll. 1950.

When this era really got kicked off.

It's important to listen to this for the historical record, but I'm not into it personally.

Stopped at Blue Monday. I didn’t need to hear the rest. Favorite Track: Blue Monday.

Somebody needs to sample the opening keys on “La La”

Some good songs, but I have a problem with this being on the list since it's a compilation album.

Important artist. Dull album.

Menee taas osastoon ihan kiva. Hyvää laulua, miellyttävän kuuloinen tulkinta. Ei kuitenkaan lumoava.

Enjoyed this, 2.9

For a second there I thought this was the guy they did the movie about in “Be Kind, Rewind”, but that was swing jazz pianist Fats Waller. Man, folks used to get real creative with nicknames back in the day. This is an early rock and roll album. Very bluesy and the Spotify version has surprisingly good mix and production. Cool songs with fun rhythmic variations but can’t say any of this really sticks with me.

This feels like the type of album where I would've much preferred it in a different setting, maybe a bar or a restaurant, or listening to it live. As if right now it didn't resonate with me

Nearly 70 years old and sounds like it.. Belongs in a museum.

Ok, nothing special. Can't give it a 3 as there's albums I enjoyed way more that I rated 3.

Wasn't my cup.of tea

Eeehh?

Thought this would be better than it was but I'm not sure why. It didn't really get going depsite being quite upbeat. Maybe it's just me, but I was just a bit whelmed by it

Another one so generic of the era that I hadn’t noticed when it had finished and songs by two other artists had played(!).

Like just such a forgettable project😂 I won’t remember this in 2 weeks but yk for it’s time it was good nothing special today but Fat Dominoes (stupid name) vocals are very expressive and just make me feel good. Don’t rly have a favourite song just all of them were neither bad nor good. Not even an album but like for me a 5.3/10 2.6/5

I'm not a huge fan of blues music. I don't think the music is bad or anything. The singer had a really nice singing voice. It is just not to my taste.

Its hard to rank something like this. Do I appreciate it? Yes, but would I listen to this on my own a ton? Not so much. I have no context really to even rank it against its peers.

Im sorry I really don’t know what this was…. 28 minutes of hmm music was just funny and like K don’t know. I didn’t particularly dislike it but it was just like ok.

This album is not available on spotify so I guess my rating should be inconclusive

FATS. One of the great names of all time. I wish this was “Fats on Fire” so I could see Fats on a fire truck. Ah hell. I’m going to google it. Haha. Nice. He’s on that thing. Well. It took way too long to find the correct listing of songs, but some good soul put them together in one playlist. Take it away Fat Man. This is way less fun than I hoped it would be. I don’t know if this is Fats Domino “Chopped & Skrewed,” but it feels like it’s trapped in Molasses. You ain’t nothing but a bundle of joy. They used to be so dismissive of women, did they not? Trying to find the words to describe this bundle of joy, without being disrespectful. Another fine song. Nothing crazy to report back here. Run of the mill 50’s rock. I’m not getting the energy from this vocal performance yet though. This one swings pretty hard. And in the wise worlds of Garfield the cat “We only hate Mondays because of what the world has been shaped into by the Industrial Revolution. A return to humanity would make Monday a beautiful day like any other, but instead, it signifies the chains that bind us to machines not of our own creation.” Or something like that. I could play drums on this album. The little saxophone solo is nice and chilled out though. Not too shabby. I hate La La La’s in pretty much everything. This is the whole song. Perfect. Nah he breaks into some verses. Pretty fun. Standard fare. We all have troubles. Fats is having trouble staying awake by the sounds of it. You’ve done me wrong Fats. This is getting worse before it gets better. Hopefully it does indeed do that. Oh my sweet lord. He teased me with some energy, and then fell right back asleep. It’s like the movie trope where the sleeping security guard almost wakes up. He dies in the verse. This is almost there though. I wanted “The Fat Man’s Hop” to sound way more, well, Fat. A stinker. This rhyme scheme is pretty pungent. Man what an annoying closer. I hate that the 1950’s has emerged as my most popular decade in this experiment. I think I can explain it by saying that there have been fewer albums from this period, we had Miles Davis in there, and the rest have been relatively simple and fun collections of music. Fats Domino almost falls into the final category there but he is doing just enough to irk me on this one. I do have to say, the man sounds comatose. At points he sounds like he’s being propped up in front of a teleprompter. There is barely any singing going on, and while I enjoy the slower, almost heavier, early rock tones; I just wish there was more vitality here. Some annoying tracks and a sleepy vocalist drag this one down into the early stages of mayhem. I’m sad. I wanted to love the Fat man. No fires to be put out here. Just a lukewarm plate of early rock and/or roll. Mostly roll. 2 HIGHLIGHTS: Blue Monday, So Long

Not my style

can not listen. Dead link. Sorry Fats

This is #day161 of my #1001albumsyoumusthearbeforeyoudie challenge, and... this is Fats Domino, right? A few tracks were blocked on Spotify, so I didn’t bother searching elsewhere and just listened to what was available. Honestly, the music is pretty straightforward—good ol' blues, rock 'n' roll, and all that jazz. Not something I'd be reaching out for regularly, if ever. This is a 2 out of 5. Looking forward to #day162.

Unsure how to rate this as an album. I think the question (about its inclusion in the 1001) is, have you listened to any Fats Domino before? No? Then you'd be better listening to one of the several greatest hits compilations. Do I like Fats Domino and a few of his songs? Yup sure. I'm less interested in this particular album.

It was okay. His voice was so easy going that it didn’t sound like that he had any personality. The songs needed more life and more improvisation. If I had to pick an artist from New Orleans that I would rather listen to, it would be Louis Prima.

Meh. This didn't really boil my potatoes. It's fine. Just... fine. Some songs hit different but mainly... No.

Respect. Fun. Essential.

only 17 minutes?

Pretty plain 50s album, closer to a 2.5. I like La La though

Really not my sort of music, but not quite bad enough for a solitary star. I might have even gone up to 3 stars if it hadn't been such a chore to find a version of this album that played from start to finish; Spotify only had the first half.
