Reviews (page 12 of 12)
Not a fan of 60's jammy psychedelia.
I can see why Janis went solo. Not that anyone was bad, but she was definitely the most unique and interesting part of the line up. Without her, this would just be any given competent 60’s rock album rather than a standout.
Not bad, recognized one song (Piece of My Heart, a real banger), overall meh.
Not bad, not great. Typical psychedelic rock but gets repetitive. Joplin’s voice is the best part of the album.
Afraid I've come away thinking the best thing about this one is the (awesome) album artwork from Mr. Crumb. Maybe it's just that I wasn't in the mood, but dare I say I found Joplin's screeching and howling on every single song a bit grating? Works on "Piece of My Heart" but I'll argue that's the exception and not the rule. Grumpalump over and out!
I like the funk aspect but too slow for me
Being so ignorant, I didn’t even know Janis Joplin had a band. I’m not her biggest fan but was actually enjoying the first tracks and her rusty voice. After a while and especially after realizing they chose to add effects to create the illusion of a live album, it’s a no for me. [0110/1001]
To my ears, it's just shrill. Is she passionate? Sure. But it's no more musical, to my ears, than Screamo. I'm sure it was shocking when it came out. And that was 1/2 of the point. But looking back, they spent far too little attention on the other half.
Not sure of this sounds like a load of tunes just thrown together no direction .
Disappointing. I thought this would be better. Really not great at all
It was alright. I don't remember any particular songs
Not a huge Janus fan, only in small doses.
J'aime bien la pochette. Je peux mettre un nom sur la chanson Piece of My Heart c'est cool. 2,5
Mouais, pas convaincu
Meh.
I can recognize that this is good music but it's just not what I'm interested in.
Not a big fan of live albums, but definitely took me to the 70s. Janis's voice is just insane 🤯
I remember reading somewhere that if you listen to the albums in the order they are placed in the book, you begin to appreciate Beatles when you get to them. Honestly, sounds believable. I keep wondering what kind of music I would have listened to had I been born at that time, and I've yet to find the answer. Can't see myself not listening to anything, but if this album is a must hear from that period... It's like trying to play Beta 1.7.3 after having played modern Minecraft, it was concidered fun back then, I remember enjoying it myself, but if you launch it now you'd be at a loss of what to do. Some people still play it, I'm just not one of them.
I hope I never have to listen to another band fronted by Janis Joplin The highest praise I can give it is that I could easily forget that it was on
fine
Janis Joplin is vastly overrated as a vocalist. Also, Fork this forkin album art. 4/10
Pretty straightforward blues rock album, with some psychedelic flair. Not enough to make it psychedelic music. Only standout is the single everyone is familiar with, Piece of My Heart. Live audience sounds are an odd choice, but not too distracting. Production sounds live, which almost makes me think the live sounds were an afterthought, covering up for less production.
I get it is a classic, but too screechy for me
Fine but I got bored and didn’t finish it
I like Joni's voice. Didn't save anything to a playlist though. 2.5
I hate when chicks sing like that
Mid
This album was fine, Janis Joplin has an amazing voice, but I think the album was mid. I’m sure this was incredible for 1968, right before this type of sound became so popular. But from todays perspective it didn’t do it for me.
For a bit there, I was enjoying hearing Janis Joplin in the context of the band, with other vocalists and the psychedelic stomp. After two songs, I was wearing down, and by the time "Roadblock" came on, I was thoroughly and completely done. Joplin's capacity to wail is a signature sound, but it has never appealed to me. On top of that, her inability (or unwillingness) to dial it back and sing sweetly — or ANY other way — is both uninteresting and hard to endure over multiple tracks. I couldn't take any more, and had to bail before the live tracks played. So whatever I did like about the album... it's too much rasp and scream and blues at 11.
This did not age well for me.
Not my scene. Screechy vocals and lacking quality at times.
Its okay.
2+ Janis Joplin
Old rock and roll
Only song I liked was Piece of My Heart - all others sounded the same. Janis Joplin is a talented singer but her voice isn’t really for me
pretty raw, lots of yelling, almost no dynamic.
Not a fan of Joplin's voice
I’m trying to set myself in San Francisco at that time. In that context, this must have been pure fire, especially live. That said, bluesy stuff co-opted by white folk is generally not my cup of tea, especially when Janis sings and then all the others bellow the same lyrics behind her. Ok, I’m trying again. Some impressive lead guitar, dynamic and unique lead vocals, and I like the warmth of the amplifier. Envisioning a nice goldenrod or brown amp pumping this out. Ugh. So many hippies surround me in this concert in my mind. They’re shifty, and they smell. Gotta go…
So I really like Janis Joplin’s voice and the album artwork is terrific. I didn’t really get much else out of this. The band is good but much like the first Rolling Stones album, it’s so-so blues workouts without much more to it.
Grubby bloody hippies and the boring album company more like. The cover art is the most interesting thing about it. Might be wrong but I get a bang of spoiled rich white kids cosplaying a chitlin' circuit blues band off this. Hard to enjoy once that idea takes hold. Also a faint tang of prog rock?!
En klassiker
Was fine, idk. Not much thoughts. Favourite song Piece of my Heart.
Can't stand her voice. This album contains possibly the worst version of Summertime I've ever heard. If you must make a fake live album, make the crowd sound consistent throughout the album. At some points it's a rowdy Fillmore crowd, at other times its a genteel dinner party. I spent half of Turtle Blues trying to figure out what they were discussing in the background.
I hate her voice so much. People say it’s strong but it’s just loud. And like she drinks a cup of milk before recording. There are some iconic songs but they’re ruined by Janis. She’s still got nothing on Bob Dylan, though.
Piece of My Heart is pretty much interchangeable with La Bamba, Wild Thing or Twist And Shout. And maybe Magic by the Cars.
Piece of my heart is great
2,5
ok but a bit trippy for me
finished it. what more do you want from me?
I previously listened to Pearl by Janis Joplin after she went solo, but have minimal knowledge her beyond this aside from Piece Of My Heart, which can be found on today’s album. Pearl amazed me so much that my socks blasted off my feet, so I’m hopeful for today. Songs I already knew: Piece Of My Heart Favourites: Piece Of My Heart Perhaps my hopes were set a little too high, but I’m left quite disappointed with this album. Piece Of My Heart stands out as the best track, while everything else is left somewhat boring. The vocals are still as distinguished as I’d expect, but everything else just felt empty. From this, it definitely seems like going solo was for the best in regards to Janis’ music.
Not my favourite genre
Teenage me, a 15-year-old classic rock and blues fan, would’ve loved this. But now it mostly reminds me why I’ve grown distant from that era. The endless guitar solos feel obligatory rather than expressive, and there are a lot of them. It’s fine for what it is, but I won’t be coming back to it.
Not my style
this one was ok! never heard of these folks. will prob not listen again as nothing made it to a playlist
I never understood the hype about Janis Joplin.
60s psychedelia just isn't really my thing.
It was eh
Janis Joplin really has a powerful voice. The live atmosphere of the album was quite nice too, but the album doesn't click with me really. Heard a version with two extra songs. + Combination of the Two + Flower in the Sun
- Didn’t realize this was gonna be Janis Joplin - Such a unique voice, almost similar to Robert Plant - Voice gets old after a little while
Gøy plateomslag! Musikken var helt ålreit?
Great album cover. Ok songs. Janis Joplin was involved. Still not interested in listening. If I hear it on the radio, I might keep it on, but not going to listen to the whole record. Not my jam.
badly produced, and dirgy. And not that good tbf.
I'm sure it was amazing live and in person.
Joplin is a great singer but this album is forgettable
I did not like a single song, and I was actually a little annoyed by the end of the money. Too much. At the same time, the only reason I'm not giving one star is because you cannot deny the amount of effort the singer put forth in her performance. There is a lot of raw energy that I appreciate in every song of this album. It just isn't the type of music I like, and I didn't want to completely fault it for that.
The cover is the best about this.
I had no idea that Janis Joplin was in a band, always thought she was a solo act. Also thought this was a live album and didn't realize they were just trying to make it sound live. Anyway, sounded like a party and I bet her live shows were pretty good. Hell, I'd say most live shows are generally pretty good. I couldn't find too much to bitch about, but not too much to race about either. Her voice is very good in some songs, and then I find her voice to wear on me in other songs. Piece of my heart is a classic. One of the few songs where a remake is better than the original; see Sammy Hagar's Standing Hampton album. A great album all the way through, btw. I read some reviews and was surprised at the number of folks saying Robert Plant and Zeppelin ripped off a lot of her sound and singing style. I listened a 3rd time through to see, but I didn't pick up on it.... Anyway, decent album. Her voice kinda wore on me after awhile, but I bet she was fun to see live and put on a good show. I'm going to rate at 2.5, but will score a 2 because I didn't find anything I would downloaded off this album.
The only worthwhile songs here happen to be covers. In such cases, I always try to listen to the original and any other notable versions. So let's break these down. "Summertime" from Gershwin's "Porgy and Bess" has no shortage of memorable versions. Amongst them, Nina Simone, Sam Cooke, and most notably Ella Fitzgerald and Louis Armstrong (how is he NOT on this list??) all surpass the BB&THC rendition. "Piece of My Heart" originally by Erma Franklin. Not much between the two versions, in such cases I'd go with the original. Erma's voice is a little more palatable too. "Ball and Chain" by another absolutely criminally excluded artist, Big Mama Thornton. No contest with this one, Big Mama's is the definitive version. And there we have it, there rest of the songs are alright, the band is alright, the singer is a bit of a tryhard though. 2 sore throat lozenges out of 5 🍬🍬
Hyvä levy... Feikki live soundi.. jahas.. hurraukset ja muut jälkikäteen.. heh....... marin konsanaan... ajansa huume musiikkia... nökyy alpumi koverissakin.. JÄRJETTÖMYYS...psykedeelinen rokki.. SUOMESSA JUODAAN VIINAA JA KALJAA JA SE ON SE SITTEN...
I never understood Janis Joplin before this. No closer to understanding after this.
Very bluesy feeling Amazing album cover Great guitar Not the best production, but that’s because of the time period this album was made in Not the best lyrics either I do like the distorted feel
Menihän tämä live-massavyörytyksenä. Hittibiisejä, vähän jammailua. Ihan kiva. Joplinin ääni aina makee, mut menee ehkä paikoin täällä vähän yli.
Jos tekee levyn näin vahvalla livesoundilla, levy välittyy livekeikan tapaisesti, eli toimii yksittäisenä kokemuksena, muttei kestä pitkitettyä kuuntelua. Ainoastaan Piece of My Heart -klassikko nousee tämän asetelman yläpuolelle.
Felt like an old man listening to this. Not bad but I probably wouldn't go back to it. Previous albums were much better.
Apart from Janis Joplin’s amazing voice - I struggle to find anything interesting in this record - generic white blues that other white blues artists have done better.
More a curiousity item (with Janis) than a great album
det var ganska lame
Vocals✅ Too loose
Cheap Thrills is the second album by American rock band Big Brother and the Holding Company. It is a blues rock album and the producer added recordings of crowd noise to give the impression of a live album. Although the final track "Ball and Chain" was recorded live. The album was well received by critics and the general public, and remains a staple of blues rock and acid rock. This was the last album by the band to have Janis Joplin as the lead singer before she went on her solo career. I liked the music somewhat (blues rock isn't always my groove) and just wish the album was a little longer.
no offence but her voice is really aggravating to listen to. yoko ono over janis joplin anyday of the week, thats what i say. "Pieces of my heart" was surprisingly decent. overall, this sound isn't for me. i don't like it and i really, really don't like janis' vocals here. this is a real drag to get through.
Combination of the Two: great groove I Need a Man to Love: blues, I guess Summertime: more blues - bad vocal Piece of My Heart: the single Turtle Blues: oof. blues. Oh, Sweet Mary: some psychedelia Ball and Chain: BLUES
Not so much
I liked Piece Of My Heart, Turtle Blues, Ball and Chain (9 minutes, phew)
Not a fan of Joplin's voice, and instrumentation is a bit rambly for me
Normally like Joplin - overall not feeling this album though
I can understand why this made a splash at the time, and the Janis-ites love it, but not for me.
piece of my heart is ok
some enjoyable tracks but mastering/production rubbish in parts with balance of instruments and vocals
meh 2.4
Wel ok!
whatever
Old school rocky vibes, some great vocals. Take another piece of my heart the highlight
Meh. Janis would get a lot better and not sure BB&THC were ever any good.
2, good music but not enjoying the Janis voice
Bland
God. Damn. Hippies.
Raucous. Unpolished. Summertime is a great cover, though. On a completely unrelated note. This is listed as an “Apple Digital Remaster”. Sounded like it had been filtered through Woodstock mud. Not sure whether noise cancelling headphones have made me a (far) more discriminating hearer, that my hearing is deteriorating, or …
Not my piece of cake
not as good as some of their other catalog
The way Janis Joplin sang! It's still so unique, even after all these years. That being said, I'm just not a big fan of this type of music and this album.
I wouldn’t recommend this to anyone unless they are determined to listen to as many works by Janis Joplin as possible.
Too intentionally heavy, and only intermittently (e.g., "Ball and Chain") do the blues feel authentic and cohesive. Otherwise I hear more screaming than singing on. Non-Janis cuts are muddy and ragged and kind of predictable. Some moments, but overall nothing special.
Bluesy rock, very much of the age
Ultra ungewaschen, Katzen Kreischend, Schuhe staubig, klarer Kolorit in puncto Zeit, was mir einfach nur ein Jucken in der Ohrmuschel bereitet. Robert Crumb gibt weit mehr als 2.0
It was quite good. Again nothing remarkable.
Joplin was obviously such a massive and unique talent, and there's some really good stuff on here (Piece of My Heart being the obvious classic, but Oh Sweet Mary was also great, as was I Need a Man to Love despite Joplin's voice being a bit Marge Simpson in places). The framing of the studio cuts as faux-live performances was also interesting and added a lot of energy to the record However there were a couple of quite boring blues cuts on here, and the cover of Summertime was... not good. A mixed bag for sure, and not one I expect to go back to
Meh
Definitely better than i was expecting. The jam band, overdone backing vocals, repetitive shout/screech delivery, blues cliche all is tiresome and unpleasant. The good news is that there is actually some really good blues/guitar grooves and soulful delivery in here as well (summertime, piece of my heart and ball and chain). Still, too much of the former to want to listen to again.
Not a big Joplin fan (one of the most overrated 60's artists). Enjoy Piece of my Heart but could pass on the rest. would never choose to listen to this 2/5
Not my cup of tea
Direi 2 scarso.
Good quality, but the lead singers voice is not something I like. Personal preference stands in the way to enjoy what I believe is good music
Found it pretty forgettable
i didn’t really like the singing part of it, i thought it was scraggly but yeah just not really for me.
2nd listen. Still good.
It's fine.
pretty cool music but the woman just sounds too much like marge simpson smh
Geht okay. Für damalige Zeiten beeindruckend
Never was a fan of Janis
Meh, her voice is a bit grating. The music is alright
Janis Joplin c'est surcoté bordel
Doesn't really hold up to modern listening. Overlong and unfocused. Some good moments along the way but not anything too great.
Woof. Fake crowds throughout the whole record? The production on this album is gimmicky and awful and if I never hear that cover of "Summertime" again, it'll be too soon. Janis Joplin's vocals are raw and singular, but it can't save the rest of the record. Favourite tracks: N/A
"Piece of My Heart" is the real winner here. Not really my cup of tea -- I can appreciate the once in a generation voice but don't love the rambly, jam band songs.
Pretty unremarkable. Even the 'big hit' isn't that much of a draw.
Great musicianship from the band but still somehow flat, boring and hard to enjoy. I am a huge fan of Janice and her voice, but this is not her greatest work. Overall a poor record.
The production value scales back the power of intensity of Jopplin's vocals, for me resulting in a lack of emotional connection.
No quite my cup of tea
Another one of those "important" albums that I just could not get into.
Nope
I like it. Very manageable. Janis is cool. Nothing life changing here that makes me want to dig deeper into Janis or this band but an easy Monday listen. 2.5.
Not a Joplin fan so the vocals really drained me.
Not much to say on this. Was very much just okay. Not terrible, not great.
60’er rock, autentisk, “fake” live, energisk
not bad, it's a period piece for me
before listening: oh god this is gonna be bad... the cover says "janis joplin vocal" so we're gonna start at 1/5 even without hearing a note. while listening: ok so it's a live album, sounds old-timey rock n roll. joplin not as annoying as solo stuff, sounds almost like robert plant lol. after listening: ah yeah, not too bad but doesn't really go anywhere. it's ok background music. according to wiki it's a fake live album too, lol. 2/5. 1 point for not boring me to death, another for joplin giving it a red hot go. no points for anything else.
it's just not for meeeeeee
Depressing
This is one of those "classic" albums that really gets on my wick. No doubt fabulous misicians but the constant noodling is tedious to my ears. I completely hate this version of Summertime too. Janis Joplin's voice is raw and pwerful but the only redeeming feature. I couldn't make it all the way through.
A tortured soul’s tortured voice is torture to me.
no lo pude escuchar :(
off to a bad start... has gotten worse somehow. i can't even make it through the full songs. this is one of the worst collection of songs I have ever heard. ball and chain was the least bad one.
Just sounded like noise and instruments being bashed together, and I did not prefer the vocals in any way shape or form.
Nothing about this grabbed me. Not even the classic track.
I knew a guy named Zorro. His real name was Michael Gregory, but his Dad was Spanish and so early 70's blokes naturally named him Zorro. He's still that. I like that fact. He could surf too, still can. I like that. He had this record. I fucking hated it then and I really fucking now. At least in 1974 I was stoned out of my gourd. This bog ordinary, shit band. And her voice. I'm still on medication after that Anthony and the Johnsons voice (why did I mention that..) but putting Joplin back on after all these years, cripes. A fucking overrated shit record that really grinds my gears. That said I hear they speak highly of me.
Nope
Janis Joplin is super important to rock history and women's role in it. However. I don't like this album. This is like, music that plays while you're using the bathroom at a gas station on the way to L.A. Music to get lectured to. It sounds like home but not in a good way.
A story. In the mid-90s, I was at Washington State University. I walked along the Glen Terrel Mall through campus many times a day over those years. Holland Library is on one end of the mall. A small family of evangelicals appeared frequently near Holland, preaching things that one would likely think of as evangelical: premarital sex, substance abuse, and abortion all as sinful, devilish behavior. One of their shticks involved the preacher’s wife, Sister Cindy Smock (why can I remember their names 30 years later when I can’t remember why I walked into the kitchen?), pushing her fingers hard through a condom to show how easily they break. Persuasive. I stopped occasionally to listen to the Smock family but usually just brushed them off. One day, Brother Jeb and Sister Cindy were out railing against the influences of popular culture, music especially. This is when I won myself a personalized copy of Brother Jeb’s jeremiad, _Who Will Rise Up?_, when I correctly answered the name of Big Brother & the Holding Company’s first album. _Cheap Thrills_ is the answer. He gave me the book and went on to preach against the influence of an album that was almost 30-years old at that point. It's probable that Brother Jeb thought I was a soul lost to the hippie drug culture that his mind still fixated on. The reality was that I had worked at music stores for the previous seven years and had sold and stocked thousands and thousands of albums, including albums by Big Brother & the Holding Company/Janis Joplin. I had never heard the album, only knowing “Piece of My Heart,” the classic rock radio staple from the album, until today. _Cheap Thrills_ is today’s 1001 albums to listen to. It’s . . . a snooze. Joplin’s vocals and the music are old hat by now, white people making money from black music’s past.
god this cunt is insufferable
Could've done without listening to this, another album that I have no understanding why is in here.
I was able to make it exactly 2 1/2 songs through before I wanted to rip my ears off. Janis Joplin sounds like a fucking Skeksis from The Dark Crystal. Her voice was like nails on chalk board. I don’t know who thought it was a good idea to put this dying woman with her scraggly raspy ass voice as the lead vocalist but they should be shot. Shame as the musicians sounded good but man I just wanted Janis to shut the fuck up anytime she would start with the death rattle wailing. Fuck. 1/10
Not for me. Piece Of My Heart was ok.
I will never get the appeal of Janis Joplin but yeah 27 club and ""soulful voice""(for people who wont listen to soul) or whatever 🙄🙄🙄
I don't know, it's not really for me, summertime is amazing tho
im Bett, abends Freitag, 02.01.2026
Sucked balls bro, can someone explain the hype?
More 1960s bullshit
Not for me
Combination of the two: 3/10, i feel this song is too "i hit my children with a belt and im happy about it" 60s type of song. too much wooooooaaaahhh wowowowowah. i enjoy the guitar tho so it gets a 3 I Need A Man To Love: 7/10, i think Janis Joplin being in this song makes it immediately better, i love her vocals and the softness of the start adds more levels and sounds to the rest of the track. Summertime: 0/10 This is lowkey ass if im being honest. its too repetative in a way im not sure how to explain, but its just too "neownnn...", too augh for my liking. Piece Of My Heart : 2/10, again, its too repetative, and sounds like all the other songs on this album.. Turtle Blues: 5/10, i really enjoy the piano on this track, and its different from the other tracks which i like. this is giving country pub saloon vibes in a way. Oh, Sweet Mary: 0/10, IT SOUNDS LIKE ALL THE OTHER SONGS ON THIS ALBUM GODDAMMIT!!!!!! CHANGE YOUR MUSIC DUDE. Ball And Chain: 3/10, not bad, not as repetative as the other songs but still somewhat repetative, which is why its a 3. i feel like they are overusing her vocals for the yelling. Roadblock: 3/10, i love this, but after 0:55, it just gets too loud for my brain and too much for me to comprehend. the drums are definately the best part about this. Flower In The Sun: ?/10, i cant really rate this one, its just eh. i dont like it but i also dont hate it, but i have no comments on this other than good drumming and electric guitar. Catch Me Daddy + Magic Of Love: WHY WOULD YOU PUT LIVE MUSIC IN AN ALBUM?? ITS SO REPETATIVE AGAIN LIKE UGHHHHHHHH WTF.
Nope
It's not that I hate Janis Joplin - I like some of her most famous songs. But this album? I felt nothing.
I know I’m going against the grain but I can’t stand this music. To me her voice is shrill and out of control. She destroys any sense of melody.
I'll pass.
Generic and bad
Another trashy Janice Joplin blues record with the same tired progressions and riffs your parents have nodded off too drunk in the nasty den. For the time, the performances are fine, but this sound is depressing and stale
Embarassing.
not my cuppa
Gave Janis her start. But, Janis made the band. Even though she had a very unique voice, she died too early.
I've done over 100 of these reviews and this singers voice was the most annoying by far.
Glad Janis is in the 27 club
This album sucks
That I can’t sing (or scream) along in the shower so not for me. 1/5 💥
Mag ich nicht
I did listen to this album. That’s about it.
Janis Joplin's screeching voice... annoying.
No. I keep getting trash albums. I refuse to listen to an hour of this
Racist cover, boring music. Janis Joplin sounds like Marge Simpson.
I learned today I can't do Janis Joplin
I genuinely had no idea that Janis Joplin released music under a band, rather than solo. It took me until the fourth track to actually recognize anything on this record. I have to say that I don’t particularly care for this record. The instrumentation is fine, if not a bit over distorted for what it is. There’s definitely some Beatles influences that are very prominent throughout, that “Heiter Skelter” sound is clearly borrowed. I don’t enjoy Janis Joplins singing on this record, it reminds me of a screeching cat. This one is not for me. 1*
I do not like Janis Joplin and I do not like this record. There are some parts on "Ball and Chain" were her vocals are pleasant and sounds like she is really expressing some genuine sentiment, but it mostly sounds like affected screeching to me. There are also some fun drumming interludes, but it's mostly pretty uncreative run-of-the-mill blues rock. Also, apparently a lot of people thought this album was a live album because the producers added in crowd noises though it was all recorded in a studio. So lame. Who does that??? The cover art also suggests this with "live material recorded at [venue]" even though only one song is actually a live recording. There's some really unnecessary racist caricatures on the album art as well. The vibes are awful. 3/10
W. T. F. I guess yesterday's review fell on deaf algorithms... And now I wish I were deaf...
I’ve tried to like Janis Joplin but her voice is just too much for me. Have listened before but just don’t like it.
idk the doors' self-titled album came out the year before this and was way better. I guess I don't get all of janis Joplin's singing, although in some songs she was very cool. this album didn't do it for me.
I feel like i should like Janis Joplin more but I just cant
I just can't handle her voice, it really grates. A personal view of course, I know that millions of other folk are fans.
UGH
nicht gut bzw. absolut nicht meins
Echt nicht meins
Janis is clearly an icon and has an incredible voice but this band isn't really my thing. If I were on acid in Haight Ashbury in 1967 I'd probably think it was cool.
This music itself was mid, but honestly I question the judgement of any group that would give the o.k. to have several instances of blackface/Black caricatures on the cover (even in the 60s). I mean, that puts forward a pretty clear statement about what audience they'd like to listen to this. And I guarantee that audience is not the Black audience that revolutionized blues music and rock. 1/5
*mostly screaming and screeching vocals, some calm instrumental tracks, but many screaming guitars.
can’t stand joplin…
Nah
blorgbp NNN
Flabby old Rock nonsense. And that's before we even look at that rather, er 'dated', cover. Just say no, kids.
Bloody awful racket. Dull. With a capital D.
I'm just not a Janis Joplin fan
had one song that was good, but appart from that not great
Second album with Janis Joplin. For her short time on this earth her terrible voice sure managed to inflict a disproportinate amount of misery on it. Music is just as terrible. Why is this on any top xxx list?
The most overrated American singer of all time.
Sorry did not like the AAAEEAaaeEaaAe🦅🦅🦅🦅
The instrumentals are like a hot plate of biscuits and gravy. Janis Joplin's singing is the hippopotamus muckspreading all over it
This was a chore to get through. Psychedelic rock is not for me. I don't usually have much of an opinion on Janis Joplin's voice...but I noticed while listening to this that she sounds like Marge Simpson when she sings in her upper register. So...no thanks. 1/5
Not my thang!
Janis Joplins voice sounds like someone strangling chickens.
Geschrei
Didn't get into it. 1/5
Janis Joplin has a really neat, gravelly voice that's rad when she's in her mid-lower register; when she's in her comfortable pockets she sounds great. But when she tries to belt her upper register to hit some of those high notes... yikes. It's like Laryngitis came alive for a record contract to make the hair on the back of my neck stand up, and not in a good way. Still, can't see myself choosing to listen to much from here again
So Hippie Folkkram vielleicht.
Ugh.
Shite
live album.. slow jam band with no rhythm and doesn't take me anywhere.
Best part of this album is R Crumb’s contribution (sorry, Janis).
Not for me…
I didn't enjoy this album. I realized I don't like Janis Joplin's voice about 5 songs in.
This was terrible. I don't see the appeal of Janis Joplin.
Just not a fan of Janis Joplin
Racist album cover. And headbangingly dull to boot.
Definetly nothing for me. Very irritating vocals
just not for me, im sorry
New artist! Not for me! 1/5
A couple good songs. Most of it sounds the same.
Painfully overrated.
I can't stand Janis Joplin's voice.
Nah, pillows desk
awful. can’t believe this made any list
Annoying hippie blues based rock complete with "jam parts" and Joplin's annoying as hell vocals. Why she's considered such a legend is seriously beyond me. The only good thing about this album was the cover art.
bleh
Not very good
The 60's
A ono, nije moja šalica čaja.
Nope!
On a shit run.
