Reviews (page 8 of 13)

Nice easy listening album with great instrumentals

It's not for every day, but I like it

This is pure music. I liked it very much. After all the songs, I think that it is a little bit repetitive, but it's so awesome that even this drawback is something good!

Mostly known songs...still classic Muddy is capital c CLASSIC

good album. dont know much blues stuff

Ckaswic

Bad to the bone copied this. A bit raw, I liked it generally Transported back to the 70s

Great Blues album felt like I was in a southern bbq restaurant. More background noise for me during the listen. However Mannish boy slaps. THERES SOMETHING IN THE WATERRRRRRR

Seminal album.

Classic. Was great for a snowy day.

So much fun. I'm not cool enough to like this album. Harmonica is too high in the mix if he's going to wail on that one E/G trill for most of the whole album, but otherwise I could listen to this 10x. 100x if in person. Muddy Waters has the best voice for blues.

Much to enjoy in this bluesy mayhem

In here are some of the rawest and rolling-over-me-est blues I've heard. Muddy exercises his control over the throttle, though. I appreciate the resulting variety but wish the recording was more consistently live. Nevertheless, this takes the form to some pretty magnificent places.

An immediate must purchase after about 10 minutes of listening. Muddy at his upbeat best. Glorious.

Well recorded heavy electric blues. Typical Muddy.

Great!

Crunchy, raucous blues. Muddy is just having a great time cutting these tracks, being a little raunchy, and soloing through each track with a downright nasty tone.

Muddy is maybe the best blues vocalist ever. He’s also a solid blues guitarist, and he leans on one, the other, or both in really smart ways throughout this album. He does a good job of leaning in the band (especially the harp player who is phenomenal) and not “sealing the show” - it’s a real nice balance. It’s also perfectly imperfect- if that makes sense. It’s good sloppy blues. I loved hearing them BS with each other after most of the tracks.

I don't necessarily like the Blues, but I absolutely love this album. It's probably because nobody did the Blues like Muddy Waters. No one else has ever come particularly close. Deserves to be on this list for "Manish Boy" alone. This thing just slaps. The only issue I have, and this is really just nitpicking, is that none of the other 9 songs compare to the magic and joy of Manish Boy. But you could say that about almost any song.

Blues de antaño

The endless blues made with perfection. Today I‘m not in the mood, but maybe tomorrow. ;) definitely annoying in the wrong mood, but if you wanna learn the classic riffs with the right vibe you can‘t go wrong.

Iconic style and riffs. Sometimes a little too repetitive. But I understand why many artists have copied.(7/10) Favourite Tracks: Mannish Boy

made me want to sit in new oleans and drink moonshine

Its the blues. You like it or you don't.

- punchy drums and punchier delivery. - surprised with the variety and consistently high quality of blues - One or two filler tracks - misc screams are the real MVP

First song was a corker. Despite the rest having far fewer plays they were all still great.

- a great album that i did not know the words to but i knew the tunes to!! - muddy waters has a beeeeuuutiful voice - down and dirty and this is amazing !!! would listen to again - honestly an experience - likes: all but little girl (maybe) - few out of 5!

Love the sound, and I understand it has influenced rock and roll in more ways than we can imagine. I just wish it wasn't as homogeneous throughout the entire album.

It's sultry. Its definitely a blues album that taps the emotions. 8/10

Classic Muddy blues

These songs sound great but sadly (like most blues) it’s just too repetitive to be something I’d listen to all the time. If you’re in the mood for the blues though I can’t imagine it gets much better than this. 3.5 but I’ll round up to 4.

Pretty cool

defintely classic blues, genre defining and iconic. Mannish Boy is a classic!

Great Blues album - very raw

Absolutely slaps. Very happy to tick off another artist on my masterlist of "artists mentioned in the extended version of the sopranos theme" playlist

Manish Man!

Oh that voice, it melts my soul. These songs live in the ether, in some kind of collective memory that we all know. So familiar the sound has become a cliche, but nobody does it quite like Muddy Waters.. It's all just beautiful, and sounds like it just happened organically, like he picked up a guitar and this album just happened. It's a wonderful force of nature we all have in us.

Great stuff. Close to a 5 but have given out too many of late

Just finished listening to the Muddy Waters album. I enjoyed it. Sure, it’s a bit samey. But the band sound like they’re having fun pretty much jamming live together in the studio. The drumming on “Mannish Boy” is great, too.

Fan of Muddy, and really enjoyed this one. Always like a good blues album, and Muddy is one of the best.

Lovely stuff.

Very easy to have had this album on repeat whilst I got depressed about football. Never would’ve listened to this without this AOTD shizzle.

Great album. Really enjoyed the blues.

Hadn't realised this was recorded late in his career (and life). You can hear in the recording how relaxed and fun the sessions were. Great stuff.

Interesting to hear the origin of samples I’ve heard for years

Damn that opening track is a stunner, the production on this is so loose and great, it reminds me a lot of D’Angelo’s Black Messiah—another comeback album that’s loose and hard and a pared back career revitalization

„Hard Again“ und mächtig Druck auf der Düse. Blues Jackie loves Blues ! Devoted 3.7

What a weird experience. I love Muddy Waters, but the version I like is the one who recorded with the brawling, hardass 'Headcutter' band on all those wonderful Chess Record sides. This is actually a very good blues record, but it just misses that dusting of magic that you got with Little Walter, Jimmy Rogers et al on sideman duty. Still, you get Pinetop Perkins on piano!

love me some blues

Classic Blues album

Gut Blues

A great surprise from a blues album. Mannish Boy is probably the strongest track, and the background yells throughout are a highlight. 7/10 at least, Muddy Waters is a legend

Muddy is so hard, and he wants you to know it.

Bluesy as fuck, sick album.

Love the blues. Love the album.

I just like it. I just like this album. I just like this style of music. Can’t really elaborate, it’s just *good*.

Heerlijke blues, beter wordt het niet. Goed weg te luisteren.

Might be overrating it, because apparently three songs are re-recordings, but I thought this was great.

Good British rock. It sounds a bit old school for the 80's, but I'm not complaining.

Mannish boy is so powerful - an absolutely timeless song (albeit slighty problematic - but is it ironic? This version seems to imply so). Some blistering recordings here!

This is music I need to hear live. 3.5

Some blues, baby! There's something very organic about the sound of this album's production that makes for a very different listening experience to the others. Blues is not my favourite genre, but this is the best of it I've heard thus far.

Some classic blues that reminds me of the movie Adventures in Babysitting lol

Great album. Nice to go back to it.

Very interesting to listen to this right after that jazz album. Similar improvisation, but so much more energy.

Good blues

Loved it classic

Good album, a lot of familiar blues melodies

A pure blues album, most songs on it sound the same. It's not a genre I strongly gravitate to but I had a good time listening to this.

I'm not a bluegrass fan, nor am I familiar with the history of this album but from my perspective, it sounds average. The chords are painfully stagnant, the guitar and piano lines seem dull, and the vocals are alright. Its not bad music by any standard but the repetitiveness is what kills the whole album for me. Check out a few tracks but the full album listen might become boring. 58/100 aoty

Good, but I’m not a straight Blues guy. Typically with this stuff, the older the recording the better.

A five for most of his work, but not this album. Why this album, and not many of the earlier Chess albums, was chosen as representative of the great man and his band is a mystery. If anyone reads this, listen to the At Newport 1960 album.

Definitely good blues, this came out much later than most blues music, even by Muddy Waters himself but yeah there's some filler here

Mannish boy

I don't care for the blues. This album, however, pretty good...

wuddy maters

"Hard Again" is one of those albums that are easier to appreciate than to enjoy or love. I'm not a blues guy so 50 minutes is quite a lot.

Unfortunately I think bad/lame blues rock has kind of ruined good blues music for me. My brain recognizes that this is ‘good’ blues rock but it just doesn’t do that much for me. Part of it - and I know this is like criticizing water for being wet - is that like 2/3 of the songs on the album use the same standard blues chord progression, and over the course of a 45 minute album, it just gets super old IMO.

True classic, ME helps shape the fabric of music today; high 3, low 4

tempo was a bit too slow for me. Cool to read about the history of the genre (chicago blues). Could definitely hear the influences in rock.

It’s the blues alright

Solide!!

#155/1001 🇺🇸 Lots to enjoy here. The blues played by a wonderful set of musicians. Best Tracks: Bus Driver, Crosseyed Cat.

Could use half stars on here tbf then the past two would’ve been 3 1/2

It starts very good but does get a tad repetitive

I always enjoy some good blues like this. I’m not sure why I tend not to listen regularly to it but this was enjoyable.

Really emjoyed the album. Lots of great blues licks throughout. A little samey by the end of the album

Great blues album, I still get bored quickly with 12 bar format though

Seisarin loppua ja madi vatörssiä. Pidin vähän yllärinä, että tällanen kaivettu. En myöskään yleensä kauheesti innostu perinteisestä blues-hinkutuksesta. Mut on tää ihan jormakkaa menoa. Yamaccata.

Very much a blues record. I can respect the blues, but I'm not a fan either.

I did enjoy the down and dirty blues and I definitely recognised the riff on the opening track (Mannish Boy) from my favourite Nas track (Bridging The Gap) but for the second Muddy Rivers album in the space of two weeks, I found myself flagging after a few tracks. The tempo, dynamics and even chord progressions just started to go around and around without much variety. It's a fantastic sound, but when you've heard in on repeat for three-quarters of an hour, it's ok to be ready for a change.

For me its a completely new music and discovery of the artist All the songs melted into one mess with a beautiful vocals, but its not my usual stuff 3 stars Fav song : none

Classic foot-stomping hard blues by a legendary performer. I, uh, wish I liked the blues more than I do, but I won’t hang that on Muddy. Just starts to sound kind of repetitive and formulaic deep into the record. But he and the band play with first-class chops, no doubt, and that growling voice sounds like it’s coming straight out of the earth.

I think i’d enjoy these tracks more as singles. Listening to them back to back made them start to blend together, and the album felt a bit repetitive by the end.

This is the examplar of what I think of when I think of Blues music, and the guitar work by Waters, Winter and Margolin sounds like the absolute root of rock and roll, which I realize doesn't exactly fit the chronology of when this album was released. The strongest track by far is the opener "Mannish Boy," but several of the other songs also resonate with me such as "Jealous Hearted Man." This isn't a genre that I commonly listen to, but I feel like I'm going to explore more of the Chicago blues sound away from this project.

very good for the genre, but not something I'd listen to

Cool but not my taste

ok. (3)

Run-of-the-mill blues album. Not sure what it's doing on this list.

I started out thrilled by this album but enjoyed it less and less as it went on for some reason. I don't think the music was actually any different throughout but I liked the first song the most.

Muddy boldy going where he went every album

Perfectly good 12-bar blues. If you want some good 12-bar blues, that is what you will hear when you listen to this. It is nothing more or less than that. (Also, I wonder what the deal is with the album title and Waters' weird pose and grin on the cover.)

Chicago blues. As a blues fan, I quite enjoyed this, although I do prefer other types of blues. That being said, I feel this suffers from repetivity and a lack of variety after the first few songs, and he does not have any particularly interesting takes on the 12 bar blues in particular that elevates this.

it was good but too energetic and kind of repetitive

Man, I've just never been able to get into the blues. Don't dislike them, have enjoyed live blues, just never want to listen to this stuff. Nothing wrong with it, just not for me.

I Want To Be Loved is m fav so far Bus driver and Crosseyed cat are good ones too I dont really like this vibe much but its not a bad album

Not terrible, by any means. But... Kind of repetitive.

Not really my thing but appreciated it

Its a 3 for the first song

Starts hard, but loses it towards the end. 1–2 songs worth listening to again.

Quite a sexual album for an old guy damn

A fine blues album

His first album that was produced by Johnny Winter. Not bad.

good change of pace. harmonica player went HARD.

Fantastic

#11 This is a prime example of classic Chicago blues. The band is tight and the production quality is great, but all of the songs sound alike. I can appreciate this for what it is, but it is not something I seek out on its own. I know I would enjoy this more in the right setting, that being live in a smoky bar.

I mean, it is good. It’s muscular and always moving. I just feel bad saying that a full album of this doesn’t do it for me. I respect the hell out of Waters and the blues as the great progenitor of so much music I love, but I don’t plan on revisiting this in full. I appreciated it but wasn’t getting down with it, you know?

Good album

Some people love the blues, not for me. That said, very well recorded album and some great guitar licks. I'll give it a 3 out of respect as it is a decent blues album even if I don't particularly like the blues.

a lot of these songs sound similar, but the vocals and guitar are just so great. what a legend

crazy trumpets and guitar but it's a little too much for my groove. the long instrumentals of solos aren't my style but it's till sick as hell

It's good 12-bar blues, but it is only 12-bar blues.

I think the blues is one of the few genres where I actually prefer live recordings, for the energy and the improv of it all. Good stuff here but with the lack of variety, it all starts to bleed together to my ears. Enjoy hearing Muddy's solos but never really got that into it.

It's not my favorite stile but music is very confortable

The blueprint for blues albums. It's the prototype for blues and all that came after, so of course it's good. Classic riffs and a gravely voice.

not my vibe

Blues at its best, I like it for a song in a mix but the whole album in one is not for me.

3/5. man kan ju för fan inte ha ett album med låtarna "little girl", "mannish boy" och "i can't be satisfied" och sen döpa albumet till "hard again".

I'm sure it was a wonderful event to have Johnny Winter produce a record for the dude that made the thing that everyone did later on, but it gets a little repetitive.

It was okay, but there could have been less of it and that would have been fine.

I really wanted to love this but none of the songs really jumped out at me. Maybe it will grow on a second listen

I enjoyed this one, much more polished than the Muddy Waters I've heard before

A 3. I loved it but i also felt it was one dimensional throughout. I'll think throughout the day if it may be a 4 but since it's the first day i dont know where the baseline is. The one dimensional of it is what is bothering me cause it was an easy listen but I couldn't tell between one song or the other but the songs are good so it's not a bad thing per se? I'll think it through

Legendary stuff

I got the blues….

Mo’ better blues

mannish boy is an awesome way to start an album. maybe if i was more musically proficient i could appreciate the longer instrumental breaks a bit. little girl was expectedly a little bit creepy lmaoo.

Muddy at his best nice production. Not enough variety for me.

Highlights: Mannish Boy, Bus Driver, I Wants to Be Loved, The Blues Had a Baby... It was alright. The blues can sometimes be a very cool genre, but on some other occasions a very boring one as well. This was a mix. It came out strong and then it got stale pretty quickly. Still, I can't say that it was bad, I was just bored a bit from the repetitive harmonica.

This one was just plain weird, but I didn't hate it.

Weird-ass album! It's blues, by The Blues Guy Himself, and yet it takes elements from rock and roll that stole those elements from the blues. The problem with this (and other blues albums) is that blues feels alive when it's, well, live, hot, sweaty, crowded. This doesn't capture it (nor did the live Muddy Waters album) and I also think a lot of blues have dated pretty poorly so it just feels flat. It's not bad, but it's not what I need out of something like this and that's disappointing.

Some heavier blues songs with a loose and jammy feel, and a decent amount of variety for a blues album, even if it feels like it's shown all that it has to offer before it reaches the end

Cowboy

Nice blues album great vibes but it again runs long. this coming after van morrison makes this album better. I don't think it will be something I seek out tho but I do enjoy this album.

It’s hard to know how to evaluate this album. In basic terms, it’s great. It’s Muddy Waters and band playing hard driving classic Chicago blues with strong songs, amusing and often risqué lyrics. But is there anything exceptional about it apart from those fundamental solid facts? I’m not sure. But I’m also not complaining about the record, which I could happily listen to repeatedly.

dont like blues too much and eventually the sound of the electric got to me but i rlly like this. i should listen to more blues

This appears to be a rather standard Muddy Waters album. It's probably the 4th or so I've heard. I think he's great, but I'm not sure each one does something different enough for me to hear new ones.

Enjoyed it

This was pretty fun and really skillful, but I didn’t connect to it. I would listen to individual songs again but probably not the whole album.

Bit of a “Seinfeld isn’t funny” situation here where something so influential is seen as less impressive or interesting due to the extent of its influence making it seem paint by numbers. I know that this is great music but I just wasn’t into it. I respect it, but not very interested in another listen at least for now.

It's hard to compare this to his live album - I think what made his live album so good was the energy that permeated it. It took the repeatable, formulaic songs and zhuzhed them up a bit. This album, while not unenjoyable, lacked that energy to it. The first few songs were nice but after the first few songs, I didn't have much desire to listen to it inently because there wasn't much new to glean from the following songs.

Straight up blues isn't normally my thing, but this suits my ear. Maybe it's the live-sounding production, the pounding drums, or the distorted electric guitar riffs. In any case, I have time for this and it's hard not to nod your head. It's all relatively samey for the first 4 tracks or so, but they're all good. I Can't Be Satisfied is an acoustic interlude, but the shuffling rhythm and guitar tone are excellent. On the back half, the last three songs are all high quality. A bit repetitive maybe at times, but this is consistently good.

I really do like blues music, but at the end of the album I was kinda done with it too

The blues had a baby and they named it rock and roll.

Not my kind of music, but haha 3 really good songs

I love the first song! The rest…

Ok, I really don't get the hype on this one. Its just a really good blues album, but blue is not my favourite genre and this is not my favourite blues album. I think, for me, the main issue is that this came out a full year after Songs in the Key of Life, likely my favourite album of all time, and so I know that we were capable of creating a lot more than this album has going on. It honestly just felt like a more boring Electric Ladyland, to me, but that may just be my unfamiliarity with Blues as a genre. Either way, its slightly better than Otis because at least the vast majority of it was original compositions. 3.3

Veldig ålreit altså

he would play in sinners

Good ol' blues.

bra men enformigt

This is #day604 of my #1001albumsyoumusthearbeforeyoudie challenge, and… how about some Chicago blues for this lovely April Saturday morning, aka my second and last record from Muddy Waters? This music always takes me back to working at a local record store almost six years ago, something I'm pretty sure I've mentioned a few times. When I had Sunday shifts, I'd put on some blues record in the morning and just let it drift through the summer air. Nice memories. I'm not someone who listens to blues regularly, though. This is a 3 out of 5. Looking forward to #day605.

Ba da da da da A powerful performance Ba da da da da

Another album that feels like a pinnacle of its genre. Unfortunately I wasn't in the best mood while listening so it took an unrelenting quality, but I'm glad to have a solid blues album in my repertoire.

I appreciate how classic this is but it's just not my jam, bit repetitive.

The instrumentals are good, but a bit repetitive, the songs are so long and Muddys vocals aren’t loud enough or very interesting. It’s not bad, but it’s not great.

pov: when viagra was finally in stock at the local phamarcy also i was reminded the classic joke about how every bluesmen never touch their guitar while singing and never sings while playing their guitar. guess it is true here. 3/5

I enjoyed some of it, the voice and style is great, but I wasn't into the lyrics and repetitiveness that much. Still, cool to hear!

spoko ale jie porwala mnie ta plyta troche nudzily mi sie te pisemki

Ensikosketuksia bluesiin. Hyvä jammailu ja kitara. Vähän toistuvilta soundaavia biisejä.

cool songs individually but gosh is it hard to listen to the boogie woogie chord progression for 45min

I respect the blues but I can’t say I enjoy them much.

25/3 mar del plata Opciones de samples

"I though Muddy Waters wrote that song" --Smithers as he's looking over Marge's padded resume. Muddy Waters' influence on the evolution of the blues and rock is undeniable. Many of the ideas presented on Hard Again became standard practice for artists moving forward. I definitely prefer later blues artists who refined the genre, but it's great to listen to this influential predecessor.... but does Mannish Boy really have to keep going for five and a half minutes?? I get it -- that riff is definitive... but sooooo repetitive!

Canción favorita del álbum: Deep down in florida.

Pleasant enough listen, good energy even if a bit repetitive

Guter Blueser

It’s good for somebody, but it’s not for me!

vibes demais!!!!

Some classic blues! Pretty upbeat style blues. I enjoyed it.

Pretty enjoyable, though I find blues like this ultimately quite repetitive and samey.

Makes me want to dance with my friends a smoke a blem

Good voice, nice guitar and keys overall music nice simple lyrics couldn't understand or find half ot them whole album almost sounds same. As a album not a big masterpiece but has good songs defo worth. Blueesss love guitar wibble thingy

good and chill, no strong feelings in any direction

7 / 10

you like blues?

Good on the whole but a lot of the songs feel very samey. The same riffs and rhythms get reused throughout, which I guess is sort of a blues staple but it's not something I really care for.

I liked the geetar

Bog standard blues album. Liked the use of slide guitar, but nothing outstanding

Objectively good music, just not my taste

Great album, not my genre

Hoo boy. This sounds like high quality blues, but it didn't make me hate blues music any less. This probably deserves 5 stars for quality, but I really hate it

Some real banging blues that’s not watered down for the masses.

Pretty good.

Not as good as the first Muddy Waters album i listened to but still good. I gave it a second listen and a lot more stood out fro me. Perhaps it was the mood I was in the first time compared to the second, but I really enjoyed this listen. A couple of really good songs. Crosseyed cat was probably my favourite. Very close to a 4. 3.5 stars

This is the type of guitar playing that is kinda fun to watch live, would be really fun to play along to, but isn’t super dynamic or incredibly exciting. It’s fine and there is a time, place, and setting for this. I want to hop in a canoe and paddle slow a creek

This is the BLUES

Quintessential blues and he was one of the best; however, there was too much harmonica on "Little Girl" for my taste. That instrument really sets my back teeth on edge...best song, "I want To Be Loved".

funky wunky dunky

He’s kinda smooth but it didn’t really do much for me

I really enjoyed this, but it was wildly repetitive

Quintessential Blues, probably not necessary to ever hear any other Blues, as it's all just more of this.

dun dun dun dun dunnn - YEAAHHR

Havent listened to blues much so it was a great listen

A solid showing of electric Chicago blues from Muddy, though a bit longer in the tooth and not quite as incendiary as his Newport 1960 live album that we got a while ago in the challenge.

My dad would kill me for giving this any less than a 3. I didn’t love it but it’s hard to hate a bunch of musicians doing their thang.

Extremely solid blues stuff, but without the live element of Newport 1960 I think it's missing something. Not a repeat listen for me, but I appreciate it.

Bluesy

Classic but started to sound all the same.

Not my style

Interesting instrumentation on "I Can't Be Satisfied". Mannish Boy's riff was immediately identifiable! My preferred styling of blues rock, larger sound and abrasiveness! Stopped on "Deep Down In Florida" General mood: 😊 (feeling the rhythm!)

Album- Hard Again (1977) Favorite song from album- I can't be Satisfied Album Rating- 7/10 1 Song added to playlist Not something id typically listen to.

Rock 80’s, sexy. Night, wine, blues, bass.

I'm not big in the Blues, but I enjoyed it.

The Blues is not normally my thing , , but this album brings such incredible energy. It's undeniable. The production is great, you can hear each part without any of them standing out too much.

Satisfying to listen to, but musically a bit too simple to listen to again. Nothing major to fault, but I feel like I’ve heard a lot of this before.

This was alright. Just alright. I wouldn't listen to it again and it is most definitely not my sort of music but I can appreciate its good qualities and instrumental talent.

The name of this album felt a little misleading but maybe that's because we've been forced to listen to a fair few albums of that nature recently. Although I liked this more than I expected I don't think I'll ever come back to it which makes me err between a 2 and 3 but I feel like being generous today.

When people say they've got the blues they've got this guy.

This was a good one. Didn’t have any favorite songs from the album though. Rating: 3/5 stars

Very blue, enjoyed

Very nice, mostly as background music.

How many albums on here can claim to have the same song reinterpreted/performed by the same artist but decades later? I wonder if purists had as much trouble with Chicago Blues as folkies did with Dylan going electric... Pretty fun listen, not entirely sure I'd check it out again.

I Can’t Be Satisfied Deep Down in Florida Crosseyed Cat

It's solid, but it honestly gets a little repetitive. There aren't many good solos, it's just kind of all of the same harmonica riff.

Not a style of music I listen to... really ever, but I found It decently fun. 3 stars for my first listen just because this is something I'll need to have grow on me.

Lovely album, great sound, so easy to listen to and have on in the background. Could it be 1 of any number of blues albums over the years, probably yeah, but I guess if it ain't broke and all that...

Not bad, just the blues really

Hard Again feels more like a glimpse into a time well before a lot of people appreciated music for what it was truly worth, and yet brings the sound to the 70s with such style and swagger that it is hard to look away. Muddy Waters is not an artist I had any knowledge of prior to starting the 1001 albums to hear before you die list, and after hearing this album from the man himself I have to say I am quite impressed by just how groovy he was this late into his career. It is a sound I am pretty foreign to, but still wanted to give my full undivided attention to because I wanted to see if I could learn a thing or two. Mannish Boy is by far the most famous song from this project and I believe I have heard covers of it before or just interpolations without even realizing it was from the mind of Muddy. Other than that I wasn't too blow away by anything here, the theatrics of this project and how it swings around is very interesting and enthralling but struggles to keep me motivated through all 45 minutes of this album. It is a very touching piece for the right kind of people, but personally I thought it was just solid and not much else.

Not my thing

Not my thing. Alot of talent tho

Undeniably good, but sort of faded into the background. I’m learning I prefer music with a little drama. Also I’d love to hear an album by a woman any time soon - not Muddy’s fault, but this list is warped.

sooooulful blues. Not my shtick, but i was stank facing and bobbing the head throughout. Very cool. Mannish Boy was the pick of course, bad to the bone!!! 3.5/5

Pretty cool, great guitar work , the blues has always been an area where I am very not educated and it was nice to hear an album from Mr. Muddy Waters (65 years old here!).

I randomly went to watch Johnny Winter not knowing who he was. Good show. Relevant because he produced this album. Didn't do the same with Muddy Waters, but bet he would have been fun to see. His music is tainted by association with the restaurant Red Hot and Blue, so I now need to go eat some barbeque after listening to that.

From a period for sure, cool to compare to a new age album but for sure tough to add to a modern playlist.

i liked it!

Bästa Muddy hittills

Inte min favoritgenre men detta var stabilt!

The sound is awesome and great for its time. However, listening to the entire album start to finish now is very repetitive

Long instrumentals at certain points that I could have done without but still a very good album and would have been fun to see live.

I like it muddy, not repetitive.

I enjoyed this album, it had a nice bluesy vibes to it. Made for a great album to listen to on my way to work this rainy morning. Some songs got a little repetitive but overall I found it very enjoyable and fit the vibe very well!

It's good, but boy do the instrumental riffs drag after a while. Good in small doses, but a long listen all at once.

Really enjoyed this blend of blues that is modern in chronology but traditional in sound. It features many rhythms and themes of classic blues rock and roll, but features a more upbeat sound that kept my toes tapping.

Solid blues album. Thought some songs dragged on a bit too long.

Bus driver is fun. Overall really fun but feels like the same song the whole album Crosseyed cat stands out

3 stars - fun! okay

Mannish Boy alone makes this worthwhile listening

So, this is hardcore blues. The first song is just one repeated riff - that's too repetitive for my taste. There's no doubt about the quality of the musicians, the energy and the artist. But I get tired of it way too soon.

Love the raw, roots, blues sound. Excellent guitar- such a talented player. I really feel the guitar solos. Deep powerful voice. I haven’t listened to much of this music before. Great to be introduced to his sound. Know the name of course. Sounds like music I would expect from the 1950’s. Surprised to hear it’s 1977.

it was quite loud

Would be absolutely fine if I never heard a blues song again for the rest of my life.

might revisit someday

Back-to-blues. Isn't really my thing but I can appreciate the rhythms and electric sound

Mannish Boy is a monster of a song, always has been always will be.

Cholera… Bus Driver?

Reminds me of working at Record Town, my boss loved this album.

Not my type.

Not my typical type, but worth the listen! I had one song that I recognized by him off this album, but can't speak much to the others.

The screaming on Mannish Boy almost put me off the whole thing, and I wasn't sure if this was just going to be one of those “important genre-defining but not necessarily for me” albums. That the album then goes and does something a bit more interesting than just playing the basic blues, really won me over, and I quite enjoyed my time overall. Highlights: Bus Driver, Jealous Hearted Man, and I Can’t Be Satisfied Muddy Waters has a proper set of pipes on him too.

That was fine, repetitive but I get why it is here.
