Reviews (page 7 of 8)
Well, that was no fun at all. I turned it off about halfway through. I just kept picturing the "Berserker" scene from the movie, "Clerks." "My love for you is like a truck....BERSERKERRRRR Would you like some making fuck....BERSERKERRRRR" "Did he just say 'making fuck?'"
Maybe it’s because we’re living during the rebirth of fascism and that I don’t speak German - but this felt like it could be co-opted by a bunch of Nazi Incel Fucks. So it’s a no from me dawg.
Sounds like a parody
Thought i’d try this in the gym. I felt uncomfortable listening to this in public.
Sounded like propoganda music. Particularly hated the end song Krst (Baptism). Should be renamed Baptism of fire No thanks 1 ⭐️
Not for me
hard, industrial music and voices; lot of copies from famous songs
No private session used for Spotify. Also no idea what I am getting into for the next hour. While listening to this I try to keep in mind that the list doesn't contain the best albums but also contains interesting albums..the kind your hipper than thou college acquaintance mocks you for not loving. I did not like this album horrible voice over orchestra music with some EDM to really screw with me. I can't imagine listening to this, maybe background music at a Halloween party when you get sick of Monster Mash and Thriller.
The cover and description made me feel this would be enjoyable; it wasn't. Just lots of shouting over awful music with too many brass instruments. One star.
Nope
Apparently foreign language industrial is not my thing.
DNF
What in the hell did I listen to? I’d never heard of Laibach and I can understand why. It sounded like music for a fictional fascist regime in a movie, or current hate groups in the world today. Laibach is described as avant-garde in Wikipedia, and I agree. Wiki also says they are associated with industrial, martial and neoclassical music. That sums it up. I’ve never been a fan of industrial-type rock and metal. While there are a couple of Ministry songs that tickle me, they aren’t really my type. I’m not even a huge fan of Nine Inch Nails, who dabble in industrial rock. Laibach seems to be a satirical band playing with some really crazy imagery and ideas. The problem is, when you’re creating satire, making fun of something really evil, some people don’t get satire and are legit into the really evil thing you’re just trying to make fun of. Beyond that stuff, which can be scary, Laibach apparently are huge Queen fans. The reason I know this is because on Opus Dei Laibach includes a cover of One Vision and a few samples from Queen’s A Kind of Magic album. It’s weird to hear One Vision sung as a kind of German military song. The whole album kind of gives me the piss shivers. That’s not to say there aren’t some very musical parts, but when the vocalist keeps shouting, “Jawohl!” throughout the song, it can become comical. By the way, Jawohl is pronounced yah-VOL, with the emphasis on VOL! So, if you’re favorite band is Rammstein, Laibach’s Opus Dei is the album for you. Otherwise, you can skip it….I wish I did.
I really don't know anymore.
Just silly, silly music. Silly and shit.
1.5
I really dont like this- both musically (so rigid and cheesy) and themeatically (I assume march beats as a commentary on facism?). Singing is more angry chanting, songs all sound the same, and music is sappy. Overall- definitely not for me. 1.5/5
Had a lot of trouble listening to this his… terrible!
From the, “it’s not what you say, but how you say it,“ department, these guys could be singing about puppies and rainbows and still make it sound like the end of the world. Pretty sure they weren’t singing about puppies and rainbows though. If this style is considered avant-garde, I can’t wait for the apres!
One hour of this is too much… actually one song is enough.
Nein. I really gave this a fair shot, but that phlegmy, gravel-gargling, mucousy, over-enunciated growl seriously just grossed me out.
I love ramstein!
3/10
speaks for itself
The singing was not good, the instruments were not good and they kept repeating the same lyrics over and over in the harshest language
Enjoyed the anthem feel of the opener and the super cheap synth to support it! Quite a build up to start with. Dramatic to say the least… …and how could I expect the cover of ‘One Love’ WTF?! I mean it’s a kinda fierce start to an album. Albeit with a comical and budget sound. And I totally get what other reviews say about the Cookie Monster sound 😂 And FIAT. What the hell. I can respect genres I don’t usually listen to but this is harder and harder to take seriously and give merit. Yeh, get this is getting close to unlistenable now. Maybe more manageable if it was parody. Gonna leave this at the half way point, which is rare, but I get the picture (1.5)
Turgid and macho, and they're dressed like doofuses, so it's probably a joke. It’s 2025 though and the joke hits different now. If ever there was a time for Laibach to take the masks off… Those are masks, right? Really weird album, but too tired to think on it much more. Yeah, I know that I gave a five to an actual Nazi (Kanye).
The "are they or aren't they?" debate about this band is enough to turn me off of them - there's just too much other music out there for me to bother. Truthfully, the album wasn't as brutal or unlistenable as I expected, but it gets pretty samey pretty quickly, and I don't intend to revisit it. I guess I appreciate that the list-makers included something of this ilk. Why'd it have to be maybe-fascists, though?
No, just no.
I'm not sure what this is... a joke? A bad Queen cover band in German? god awful. 1/5
Angry German metal or sweet love songs … who knows? I just know I did not enjoy that.
I get its art. But, wow, so painful.
This was AWFUL 2/10
The reason I’m doing this list is to listen to Slovenian metal. I have now checked that box and never have to listen to this again.
41/1001 Laibach - Opus Dei Heard before? ❎ Revisit? ❎ It's quite clear right from the off that Laibach were a heavy influence on Rammstein from the vocals to (on the first half) the industrial style sound. It is a bit more synthy and less heavy, but it's there. I can kind of manage that, but then it turns into marching music to describe it best followed by nationalistic sounding stuff, sampling speeches/singing or speaking them. This where it completely lost me. Now whilst this was on, I was reading about how they would use the nationalistic sounding music to criticise the Communist government in Yugoslavia at the time. However, it does nothing whatsoever for me to enjoy or appreciate this.
Is this worse than Sepultura? A real Sophie’s Choice…
No no Nein!
Huh? This is…music?
Is this Industrial music? If so, Industrial music is not for me.
Thank god the Soviet Union collapsed.
Omg who cares, I did not enjoy this album. I don’t like the militaristic sounds, and I don’t like the production.
Hate this shit so much, like an even worse Rammstein. 1/5 giving it a 0,5 out of 5 on rym.
Absolutely garbage. Probably the worst album I've ever heard
bro. I hated this- it sounded like a Kyle Gordon parody of German music. It sounded like if you gave an Eastern Bloc child garage band and access to one nine inch nails song. In a year where I’ve listened to 2 Eminem albums, a bee gees album about an ancient ship and a concept rap album about an alien gynaecologist this is so firmly at the bottom of the list.
not for me
Having spent all day at a local pub who had hosted an all day festival of young local bands this came as a shock when I got home to listen to this album. Best I can say in its favour is that the 1001 Gods are once again playing a tick box game by including a Slovenian band. A Country (ahem) well known for its outstanding musical output. My advice is listen to Vinyl Friday a young band I was privileged to witness today instead of this muck. 1/5 5/7/25
Absolutely dreadful
I had never heard of this. It's cheesy as hell. I can see how it influenced rammstein, but it is really not for me.
No.
Oh my. I laughed out loud at certain points cuz it was just so ridiculous. F.I.A.T. is giving me FF7 soundtrack vibes. A lot of these other songs are just creepy weird.
no.
💩for the music 1* for the cover
List... I mean seriously. What even is this? Why is this something I needed to hear before I die? Why do two of the songs sound like covers from Queen's A Kind of Magic? That's weird.
The good news is that I had never heard this before. I always enjoy the opportunity to broaden my horizons and have been pleasantly surprised and added things into my musical realm. The bad news is this is not good. I like industrial, I like weird. This is just bad.
This is just weird. Lyrics mostly Yugoslavian, I think. Like listening to a fascist industrial march beat. Enhanced by a speech by Churchill sung in an autocratic voice over. I'e heard a different version of 'Live is Life', but nothing like this one, its worth a listen just to... to... maybe not. Yeah, it's different. I never knew albums like this existed, so thanks 1001... I think. Maybe not. I'll go and lay down now, and let the tanks roll over me...
Terrible
every once in a while an album seems like it's included on this list for run of the mill music writer "look at the weird shit i know about" reasons. you don't need to hear this before you die, you need to hear this before about 1993 if and only if you live in former yugoslavian republics, and you'll hear someone's version of live is life at every european sporting event anyway.
Love thus album Sucks
Nein, nein, nein
Sounds like an old spooky video game score. I am struggling to finish the album and to understand the stylistic choices. It's such an assault to the senses. This is a low budget musical score for the orcs walking out of Mordor and they ran out of funding.
nope. not a must listen.
God, this sucks. I think being a German speaker actually makes this a worse experience.
Horrible. Could not get through this one.
Not at all to my taste
I went in knowing nothing. It was a bizarre listen. Very operatic like The Wall, but with a DIY industrial feel. Not my kind of music, an interesting listen nonetheless.
Well, I didn't have a Tuetonic synth heavy martial cover of Queen's One Vision on my card for today's listening.
Ahhhhh… a no for me
This is not good
This was objectively awful. 0 redeeming qualities, I want to scrub my ears of this.
1 - crap
I mean like a weird ass Rammstein lol was not my jam, but hearing one vision in German was interesting lol 🤣 definitely not for me
what the fuck even was this? The melodic stuff here and there was neat, but the spooky vocals and weird industrial horror vibe just annihilated any enjoyment. It gets so weirdly arty through a bunch of the tracks too. Its an arthouse film that people pretend to like, but an album.
idk this one could've grown on me but i can get similar sounding music without worrying that people will think im a nazi; would i listen again willingly in its entirety? absolutely not.
unlistenable.
Have you ever wondered what it would be like if Rammstein was boring and bad? Well wonder no more! Meet Laibach!
Oh my god this was horrible. Worsened every single song and hated it. NO thank you.
On a family road trip in 1983 as a young creative child I decided to pass the time by loudly burping the lyrics to Eddy Grant's big hit "Electric Avenue" over the course of an entire day, much to the endless amusement of my family. They thought I was special. I just didn't know it had been recorded. 2/10 1 star
No es mi tipo de musica
Different. Too militaristic for me.
Slovenian dog shitt....oh mannnnn! I thing is one of the worst albuns from this list
I don't want to be dramatic or anything but this ruined my morning Best Song: Geburt Einer Nation Rating: 1.5/10 Stars: 1/5
Ne, hvala.
This feels Nazi-adjacent to me, but maybe it’s just the German… 1⭐️
Slovekia metal, uh, no
lol I don’t know what to do with this one.
Music for dudes who are a little too into learning about Nazis
Terrible
1.5
I can't get jiggy with this shit.
Nah
Kinda weird in a good way but then the songs just drone on and on aimlessly.
Like nothing I’ve ever heard or would choose to hear again.
хуита
I somehow missed the album and had to go back and listen, I wish I hadn’t. It’s too industrial, it’s too German/Austrian, his voice is really distracting, there are three songs and some instrumentals and then they repeat said songs for different versions? 2/10
There is not good, then bad, then worse….then this. It’s worse than worse.
One of the funniest albums I've heard for a long time. I mean, it gets old after about a song and a half, but the cover version of Queen's One Vision is laugh out loud funny. Reminded me of stand up comedian Bill Bailey doing the Hokey Cokey as Kraftwerk. Check it out on Youtube.
Are we sure this is from 1001 albums you should listen to before you die and not 1001 albums you should listen to if you want to die?
I liked their leben heisst leben cover, but nothing else
Emperor's new clothes.
More an art installation than an album. The would be movie soundtrack to the alt history dystopian industrial world if the 3rd reich or stalins USSR had been all conquering. Glad heard it - in a sick way maybe. Enjoyed it - hell no but then in a funny way maybe-no. 1 star for the .. for making me want to march and being rather silly
# Album Name: Opus Dei # Artist: Laibach # Rating: 1/5 # Comments: Fuck off. Who added this fucking turd fest to the book?! This is the musical equivalent of two germans defecating on each other. Absolutely horrendous. You have to be a twat to add this to the book. I hope you have nightmares tonight. I know i will. # Top Tunes: fuck off. Yer ma! # Would I listen to it again? Only if i joined the US army and was sent to guantanamo bay to perform my duties.
Ja, this was awful.
What the fuck.
This was like Cookie Monster doing black metal over marching beats, it wore out it's welcome pretty quick. It's less an album and more like 3 songs repeated four times but with different battle horns added in. The only good thing is that it's completely different than anything else I've heard. 1.0 for the dystopian medieval trumpets.
It's not the worst album on the list but I didn't need any aspect of this. It's not entirely out my wheelhouse but there are so many barriers for entry that overall I'd rather just skip this altogether. I'm not huge into industrial metal and don't speak German/Slovenian so this is a pretty big miss for me. I tried to give it a shot but after a while I just wanted it to end. 0.59 stars
So German
i have trouble describing how genuinely awful this is
Pre-listening thoughts: is the reason Kraftwerk was such an accomplishment for Germany that everyone else there was just banging pots and pans together and yelling and calling it music???? Why is every German album here like frightening recruitment music???? Scared for the potential of Kollaps pt 2 Post/during listening thoughts: this is what I think of when I hear “German music”. Now, I will say this is loads better than Kollaps. I don’t think it can get much worse than that. There are actual instruments and singing here. However this totally still falls into the “banging pots and pans together in a militant manner” category. I don’t want to go to war papa 1.5/10 (.5 is for how much it made me laugh. LIFE IS LIFE!!!) DID I NEED TO HEAR THIS BEFORE I DIE: no Fav tracks: as funny as this album is I can’t say I enjoyed any of it as like music I would revisit to actually listen to. Something has to go on my playlist tho. Hmmm Least fav tracks: well…
It’s clear the creator of this list has a bias for industrial rock. While I know that it has its place, I don’t really enjoy it. This one was no different.
Yikes
Fucking unlistenable
I’m sorry if I could give this 0 I would
The only possible context that you would listen to this would be if you were in a German marching band ! Terrible and I had to stop listening ‘cos it was hurting my ears ! 1*
Not even the “One Vision” Queen cover can save this noisy record. The vocalist is obnoxious and the instrumentals are just a lot of noise.
What a horrible album... I'm not easily offended, but hearing stuff like this... phew... I skipped most of it! Those 'Life is life' covers are appalling. It has a bit of The Art Of Noise, but very different on it's own. Perhaps if you like industrial music with pompous drums and horns; this may be something... Otherwise... just skip it...
Unhörbar! Schrott!
ok i do not think i have to listen to more than a couple of these songs to get the gist. goofy and distasteful. really just not my thing at all…
no…..
Close to unlistenable fascist music. It was vaguely interesting for a few minutes but just kept going and going and going. According to their Spotify bio it all might just be some big performance art act, but I don’t think that really matters when your album sounds like the playlist of a Proud Boys meeting.
Honestly kind of scary. Could not finish it. Dystopian and maybe too on the nose for this current political moment.
Growly German vocals over inconsistent genre music.
This one is obviously silly tongue-in-cheek music. I do appreciate the variety and introduces into the list, but I can't say I liked it.
Nein...
What have I just listened to!
Well, It's good to know Yugoslavian Industrial Music is not my thing ig. 2/10
#79 - God I couldn't finish this
Not for me 1/5
...but why?
1987 odd German experimental? Mr Bungle inspiration? 1/5
the songs at the end genuinely made me question my sanity. I can't do that much repetitiveness for 7 minutes and it wasn't even good. I dont really care for what this band stands for either n the current political climate. You know an album is bad whenever you REMEMBER it for being awful.
I barely finished. That bad. 1/5
worst back to back albums ever??
This album felt like being trapped in a brutalist nightmare, with Arnold Schwarzenegger as my only companion. The album is mechanical, and oppressive. Each song dragged me through a dystopian landscape where the walls felt like they were closing in, and the militaristic thumping beats and monotonous vocals ground me down and stole from me any sense of enjoyment. It was like being stuck in a loop of grey concrete and steel. Not even Arnie could save me.
scary :(
Favorite Track: The next one I listened to after this album was over
Some weird artsy Third Reich victory
No thanks thanks!
bad
Not for me. 1/5
Buf. Not for me
wish i skipped this one 2/10
If Rammstein launched their career in the 80s and wouldn't have a clue how to write music, this is how it would have sounded. It's bad.
Ur joking me. God i hate germany
Domineering. I didn’t like the vibe
Appalling. Not pleasant to listen to.
Not for me at all but German sounds cool .5/5
Absolute incoherent garbage. Just sounds like I'm listening to a Nazi concert. Nothing even remotely interesting going on. Wish I could give zero stars
Weird German Language rock. Not as good as Faust, which appeared earlier on this list.
Not my wife’s favourite album. She thought it was awful. Oddly I have to agree.
hey HEY! Get off of my cloud. This is now #1 on my list of worst because it is not only bad music it is anxiety-inducing and evil.
wtf is this - reich rock - only listened in full in case YA YA OOstenba was to be found
German heavy metal
Terrible. Industrial music is stupid. Painful album to listen to. 1 star
This album cover is terrifying and I'm not excited for it. Oh nice the sounds of Nazi Germany. Just what I want on a Wednesday morning. I got way further into this than I should've. At best it reminded me of Rammstein but a way worse Rammstein. In no way will I be back. High 1.
Bit of fun, no quality, don't want to be too harsh but life is life
freak
No
Dreck
OK, this one has been taking me forever so I’m just not going to finish it. I understand the intentions behind this album but it is just not interesting to listen to and the Nazi-ness is really off-putting, even though I know the band was trying to make a point about totalitarianism.
Nope
This was a joke, right?
The author deserves to be punished in some way for putting this Cookie Monster-sung piece of garbage on the list.
Nope
Not my jam. Lead singer sounds like a frog. ‘The Great Seal’ was alright. I’ll be fine not hearing “Herze-Felde” on repeat. This album sounds like it knows more about world history than I do.
Well this was certainly an album for your next war time bombing showcase. Not quite what to make of it. Didn’t understand much of it. The instrumentals were pretty good and menacing for much of the album. Overall though it wasn’t enjoyable and I am gladly moving on. 2.2/10
Idek what to say man. It was miserable
couple of decent songs but a ton of thid is just miserable
No
Rammstein style German rock....not my jam....
"Militaristic sounding industrial compositions"? Not my version of industrial.
Are you having a laugh? This is NOT the work of God. I can’t tell whether this is a right-wing parody or they’re trying to BE Hitler Youth. I am trying to admire their attempt at avant garde as much as they are trying to be ambiguous but my hackles are raised.
This one’s a no from me, dawg
HAHA. I hate this. The 80’s reverbed-out drums make nothing hit hard. He sounds like a frog croaking.
The political messaging is intriguing, but the music is utter shit.
Two stars initially because I quite liked it but then started to find it really stressful. And then one star less for being too long.
I can’t tell if this is a serious album or if it is intended to be parody. The musical style - it’s what I would imagine emanating from Giede Prime, but with the Cookie Monster as the lead singer. It was a trip.
That was an experience. Musically it’s a train wreck, comically heavy, overly dramatic, simplistic and repetitive. Their whole gig is trying to be edgy, and push people’s buttons.
Stupid crappy
I found this similarly inaccessible to The Young Gods. Clearly I have a blind spot when it comes to post-industrial stuff being roared at me in another language. Thought I'd be able to get on board with the humour at least, after the two openers, and FIAT was ok but after that I couldn't wait for it to end!
Listened Before? N German.... wow. Interesting background music I suppose but I'm good on this one pretty much forever. Added to Library? N Songs added to playlist: Opus Dei (only because it's in English)
I don't like his voice and I don't like the music behind it
Woke up in a bad mood today so this could be harsh but I genuinely think I hate this.
Nein!
Not good
Stumping
Almost convinced me with the first song, but the more it continued, the more it wasn’t something I enjoyed at all. 1/5
Ummm kay no thanks 0.23 stars
Unbearable listening. I guess parody fascists make just as bad art as the real thing.
This album has two cover versions of the annoying one hit wonder “Live is Life” by Opus, sung in guttural German accents, which is probably two too many I think. There’s also a cover of One Vision by Queen which ends up sounding like a world war II era propaganda speech. The rest of the album continues the totalitarian theme with pounding drums, grandiose orchestral stings, industrial noise and speech samples. It all makes me feel a bit queasy.
All a bit coarse and in parts interpreted listlessly. Like you want to blend Rammstein and Front 242, but order it on Wish … Some songs started promising, e.g. "Jägerspiel", but this one too was very monotone later.
I never heard of this band before. The album is pretty wild, but reading their Wikipedia page is even wilder.
Not my thing
Great for a chill Slovenian wine night
Pretty strange for my taste. I did manage to listen to the whole album though.
No
Not sure I have the words for how bad this is…
Persevered (I want a medal) to track 7 and then gave up and started looking up the slovenian for awful (grozno) and rubbish (smeti). A collection of "that" song from Eurovision, but without the visuals that make you chuckle. Truly Hudo (dire)
No
this was terrible
Not for me. It was all in German and super dark. Not sure how this is in the list. 1/5
I think I'm mostly trying to figure out how tongue-in-cheek this is. I've listened to industrial a bunch before, but never so... heavily militaristic? Song one I enjoyed, but then the record even had an alternate version entirely in English... I think I should have been wary about the metal on this record when one of the first Maiden records was on here, as opposed to... not the first one. Also, holy shit, are the keyboards on this thing dated. Must've been the first synthesizer horns ever invented. The more I think of this one, the more I'd rather never listen to it again, and would kind of side-eye anyone who would want to.
So bad it was a painful experience.
Well, I can’t say “Opus Dei” wasn’t interesting. Or learning about Laibach and the NSK State. But I can say it was confusing. Both the music and the story behind it. Totalitarianism, facism, and communism did weird things to Eastern Europe. The harshness of the political and economic climate seems to have seeped into everything, which is the only way I can explain the direction rock and industrial music evolved in Germany and points eastward in the 70s and 80s. As much as I may have learned in the process, “Opus Dei” is still a one star album. And so a replacement must be nominated. For every one-star album, I pick a personal favorite 5-star album that didn’t get recognition from the list. And the last couple months, I have repeatedly lamented each time an overrated British band came up and found one album continuously coming to mind: Bloc Party - “Silent Alarm” ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ The energy on this 2005 debut album is unmatched. It begins with the brilliant cascading entry on “Like Eating Glass” of the whirling guitars followed by a driving bass beat and then finally the drums kick in. And it never lets up.
These deep dark grumbly vocals can go crawl back into the deep dark hole from which they emerged.
Nope. Nope. Nope. Ironic fascism (?) blended with electronic/industrial repetition....An absolute slog to get through and had a hard time finding anything note worthy that would save it from this rating.
Felt like I was being serenaded by Cold War propaganda music that at times had some slight redeeming qualities. But no thank you still. 1.5
lol wut
I've probably given a 2 for worse, but I just can't...
What a waste of fuckin time. I don't need to know another language to know this is just bullshit thrown on a track. Feel bad for the engineer that had to sit in studio and record this. 1/10.
sounds like a shitty german version of stomp or some shit. I can only assume this is included because its an early version of what would become 'industrial' music or something. It sucks, and every song sounds like there are dudes banging metal trash cans. I bet Rammstein listened to a lot of this. 1.3.
¡Con la Obra hemos topado! 😂😂😂😂😂
An interesting concept for a band for sure; industrial metal parodying fascist dictatorships (god I hope it’s a parody and I didn’t just give fascists views/listens/clicks). Unfortunately between the singer’s Arnold Schwarzenegger sounding voice and music that sounds like it would fit into an 80’s movie training montage it’s hard to take it too seriously. Also, as a non German speaker, if you make very militaristic sounding music and sing in German while wearing nazi uniforms I can’t tell if you’re making fun of them/making a statement or are legit just a bunch of nazi and I almost have to err on the side of caution. Sorry not for me
Nope.
1.1
Rating: ** 1 ** Notes: Really really unpopular band (70k monthly listeners on spotify). Did remind me of Rammstein, but their music is not as melodical. I did not like the mixture of german singing with slovenian accent, also I had the feeling that the songs are eithr not original or just the same beat and kind of experimental and very weird and also annoying. I find it funny that in their Wikipedia page it says that one of their albums is in the book 1001 albums... like this is their greatest achievement...So far, the worst listening experience for me (especially Herz-Felde), several times I thought about quitting. But for the people who liked it: they have a concert in Vienna on 21.11. Songs which stood out in no particular order (credits to Uncle Gue for the idea): "The Great Seal" (would rate this song 4) ------------------------------------------------------------- Rating Scale: 1- very bad 2- bad 3- neutral 4-good 5-very good additonaly -/+ sign if necessary
Schrecklich! 1.8/10
Just not for me at all.
Album 208 of 1001 Laibach - Opus Dei Rating : 1 / 5 Opus Dei is the third studio album by Slovenian band Laibach, released in 1987. That is all I have. If you want something different, check this out. Why should I suffer alone?
Ahh now.
Meh
Haha could not get through the first song. Just really not my style at all
Rubbish!
Not once during this hour longer run time was I enjoying myself. If I was doing something that I regularly would enjoy, my mood was dampened by this wet blanket of an album. I thoroughly believe that this was created as an elaborate joke to annoy people. Or maybe I’m just not German enough. 1/5
🗑️
man they was rlly tryna piss me off w this one.....
No way this should be in a 1001 album list.
Very weird
Kind of wanted to like this but can't take it seriously. Not keen on the drum sound or the vocals.
This is definitely something. after reading about it, I enjoyed it more because it’s not serious it’s just goofy
what on earth
I remain curious about Laibach's concept; There is absolutely nothing to bring me back to the music. This feels like one of those historical popularity oddities: The industrial sounds are standard, covers and gimmick dominate the tracklist, and the political project is niche in time and space. Martial industrial remains an entry in my list of music to get to, but there's a reason it's languished there for some time. I hear the four extra-vinyl tracks are different or better; They're unheard and don't factor into this ranking.
I appreciate the list expanded outside of the US and UK, but not like this. Outside of the off-putting belchy vocals, the first half or so of the album was acceptable as something a little different. The track "Trans-National" was not bad. It sounded sort of like a spy movie soundtrack. But the remainder of the album was just atrocious, a boring repetitive slog. I really hated it. Disliked the album cover art as well. Edit: Just looked at the wikipedia page and it seems the last four tracks (probably the four worst on the album) were bonus CD tracks. With those excluded, that might put my rating closer to 1.5, but I'm leaving it 1/5.
I don't even know how to respond to this. All I know is my pee tastes different after listening to it.
Nope nope nope
Yikes
Just not my thing.
No thanks. (considering I used to listen to 90s industrial metal)
Wild choice.
I don't even know
Not for me
i gave the first 3 tracks a go... but had to bail! not for me...
Truly awful listening experience.
Yh en olis millään jaksanu kuunnella loppuun. Todella raskasta jotenkin tämmönen tykittely.
It sounds like if SNL was doing a parody about german music
It's what happens when you cross 80s pop with Wagner chants. And it's just as strange as you would think it would be. But just because it's strange does not make it good. And I really didn't enjoy it at all.
Rammstein light.
Sounds like background music to a bad Game of Throne parody porn film. Holy fuck this is awful!!
Wow
what is this
No ty
Not interested in Fascists. Pass.
Couldn't finish it -- not at all my cup of tea.
Literal Nazi propaganda. "We are what we pretend to be, so we must be careful about what we pretend to be." - Kurt Vonnegut
pas mon style
I didn't mind this at first but later on there were some songs that I hated - HATED!! I could not bear to listen to them - it started with "Herz-Felde" and continued through the end. I've never felt so tortured listening to a song. Supposedly they claim not to be fascists, but try not to imagine a Nazi rally listing to this bullshit.
I gave this album 5 attempts, no exaggeration, and could not finish it. At first I thought, “oh this is different and fun” and within a couple minutes, it just felt like a weird, fevery nightmare soundscape that induced anxiety spikes. NAH THANKS
At first I was excited by this, but then quickly found it unlistenable. I really like noisey music, but this didn't really click.
So tired of Germany
Are you having a laugh? It’s nice to have a diversion from English, but why this???
Don't like, definitely not for me.
One song had a section that interested me on the “Trans-National” song. The rest I could have lived the rest of my life not listening to.
This is why I didn't watch MTV in the 80s. I would be really upset if my album did not make the top 1001, when this does.
Cover versions...in German...performed in heavy rock. 😆
The way that this is on the list but Lana del Rey isn't...
Oh no..
Didn’t get past track 3. Just awful.
Weird
Not my bag
Wtf did I just listen to? I kinda wanted to like it but in the end will probably never try again.
Weird. Definitely woke me up. Not in a good way.
Não é atrativo. As vezes dá agonia.
Some interesting moments, but on the whole, totally unlistenable.
Smh
Track 01 - 1/5 Track 02 - 1/5 Track 03 - 1/5 Track 04 - 2/5 Track 05 - 1.5/5 Track 06 - 1/5 Track 07 - 2/5 Track 08 - 1.75/5 Track 09 - 1.25/5 Track 10 - 1/5 Track 11 - 1/5 Track 12 - 1/5 Overall: 1.25/5 Album Art: 3.5/5
I remember their Life is Life/Leben Heißt Leben cover from back in the day. Sounds really rather tame in retrospect to be honest. Let's face it, Rammstein did this kind of thing much better (and funnier) later on. I am not sure if there's any value in being first with a particular sound if that sound is so ugly. 3/10
No
Damn. Slovensk industri er nok ikke mig.
slovensk industri, teatralsk, covers
Really bizarre, strange album.
What...is this?
I was picturing a big blue muppet singing.
