Reviews (page 7 of 7)

Please dont show me any more common albums. I dont like him

Shitty hiphop

I dont like it

**Any album that I don't finish gets a 1. I tried. I had to turn this one off. It was too much of a slog.** I remember when it came out. Hitting play brings me right back to that year, that radio station, what was going on during that time—but I don’t like this album. It just feels really noisy and overproduced which is strange because the album is stacked with talent. I was excited when this album came up in queue, but yeah…not a fan. (And of course a 1-star album ends up being 90 minutes long, too.)

I tried numerous times to listen and couldn't get past a few songs. Plus he always wore that stupid hat.

I don't follow hip hop at all but isn't Common the guy that makes hip hop for white people with minivans? I can already tell this one is going to be a slog today, an hour and 17 minutes of this is going to be really tough to get through. After reading a few of the reviews here I was a little hopeful that this might be a but different from the rest of the hip hop that I've heard. Maybe a hint of jazziness here and there. Alas, that's not the case. It's basically indistinguishable from the rest. Less violent which I suppose is a tic in the pro column. But the rest of the homophobia and misogyny and self aggrandization is out in the forefront. It's not for me. 1/5

About as good as his acting in Silo.

I’ve heard of this rapper but never listened before. The sad part is, the music is pretty good. But the lyrics are so obscene that most people will never hear it. (Here’s a thought, if you don’t want people using the N-word, don’t sing it.)

I couldn't get through it. I don't mind hip-hop, but I didn't enjoy this at all.

Wasn’t a fan. Didn’t finish

Tried, didn't like it. Not for me.

Rap ist nicht so meins...

I don't even know where to start with this album. It's too long at almost an hour and a half. Some of the beats are pretty good, some sound boring and generic. The lyrics are where he really loses me. Misogyny and homophobia are not something I would ever rate highly. It's honestly getting repetitive and tiring in this genre. Do they not have anything else to talk about? I severely disliked the outro of 'The 6th Sense', and think that was the moment of the album he earned his one star rating. Something else to complain about lyrically is how many times he says "broad" on this album. It was at least once every song, very annoying. One star. (Favorite track: The Light.)

I really tried.

Another rap album that I just don't like.

I tried, but no.

Definitely recommendable for a new town in the genre and spoken poetry, however, lack of musical intonation and explicitness art distracting

Until this moment I've never heard of the bloke, apparently an American rapper. I'll listen to a couple of tracks but I'm guessing it's not for me really....... Nope!

Never heard of this album or artist. Well, here goes... Ugh, it's rap, spoken word mostly it seems. Very little to speak of musically. I have to admit I did not pay attention to the lyrics that much. Overall, I found it very boring. I skipped through most of the songs after 30 secs or so. Parts of "The 6th Sense" were tolerable. Going to give it my first 1 star rating out of the 7 I've listened to so far.

Not my taste

Garbage

I just don't get rap.

Ompahan taas paska

A nothing burger.

1 - Rap - Hip Hop de mierda

Schlechter Stil, schlechtes Album und ganz schlechte Musik. Rappen wie ein Pickel am Anus.

I tried. I really did. Why do they have to be SO LOOOOOONNNNGGGG 🥱

I tried again. The fact remains that hip hop is not music. 1/5

Went in with some expectation. But rap isn’t something I actively listen to. I did like elements of soul peppered into the hip hop. Most of the lyrics are yuck. One activist song towards the end. Imma just confused where this person stands.

The backing tracks are mostly very chill and clean, but they started to feel very samey before I even got halfway through and it was difficult to finish. I struggle with lyric-focused music and so hip hop is really not my thing. I liked the Afrobeat intro on the first track though.

This was just tedious. Can't connect with anything contained in this album.

1 beat loop album... Ok the beat is nice, 1 track would be fine but 1 whole album !!!! You understand well : i did not like it

Woman abuse confirmed

Can't relate to socially conscious hip-hop at all. Common is a better actor than rapper imo

Not a rap fan

Rubbish

Not really a fan of this. Generally better rap than a lot of what I've heard, but still too much for me. 1/5

First couple of songs, didn’t like this then I got to The Light and I thought ok this is hopefully improving. Turns out that was the only song on here I enjoyed. Overall hated it, felt like it went on for an eternity.

Last time a Common album came up I praised it for being wholesome. I can’t say the same for this one. Pure trash, just like 98% of all other music of this trashy genre.

What a surprise - another Hip-Hop / Rap album. I don't carte what type of Rap it is - Progressive or Regressive - it's still crap.

Jesus Christ is this album long.. i don't really care for his style.

1.5 Gay panic

Joy, another rap album well over an hour long. There's no way Common listened through this and thought to himself "yeah, this doesn't need trimming at all". There's not a chance he had this much to say. Some tracks are six minutes long and the whole album is an hour 20 minutes. It's too much. Its not good enough to be that long. The beats don't really grab you, the flow isn't the best. It's all just a bit dull most of the time. I'll end on a good note. 'Geto Heaven Part Two' was alright, 'Cold Blooded' has a pretty cool guitar riff beat and is a decent track and 'The 6th Sense' is really good and easily the highlight. It's got an uplifting sound, Common sounds good and has something interesting to say. These three can go on a playlist, the rest can get in the bin.

Boring and the fact he he’s to rely on the n word a lot also says enough to me and with his homophobia and anti feminist lyrics I wouldn’t listen to it a second time one time was bad enough

Listened to the first 3 tracks and didn't want to listen more

This wasn't like water or chocolate. More like dog shit

I liked the jazz elements, but there wasn't anything new from the hip hop world that grabbed me. I bailed after the first 15 minutes when the 'faggot' jokes kicked in. Oh dear.

Nichts für mich.

Started off promising but deteriorated quickly. Low on the mudda fucka’s (although there’s ample use of the word fuck etc) but definitely big on the niggas. Also a bit of homophobia thrown in. Not my cup of tea

Really just not my thing.

Some good catchy songs on this album. As with a lot of music in the genre it unfortunately doesn't hit as hard when English is your second or third language since it requires looking up the lyrics and reading along to get the depth of rap and that in turn requires me to get interested enough in the song to look that deep in to it. I still enjoyed the album and the beats bobbing along catching bits and pieces here and there.

unoriginal pseudo-intellectual babble

Not for me, sorry

This did nothing for me. Rap is not for me, but that's OK.

Not for me.

Yeah not my usual cup of tea

Again I say I’m a white male living in the UK now in his 70’s and brought up on a diet of progressive rock and you want me to listen to this stuff before I die? Appreciate millions love this genre but when Mr Common recorded this he wasn’t thinking me so likewise I’ll shut him out of my life. 0.1/5 15/9/24

I really struggled to sit through the first song. I know Common started out as an singer but for some reason this doesn't feel like the common songs that i've known in recent years.

Who am I to judge one's perspective? Though some of that sh*t y'all pop true it, I ain't relating If I don't like it, I don't like it, that don't mean that I'm hating

Couldn't get into this one

Derivative Eminem wannabe. The pronunciation and pace is identical. Well produced but nothing special and should be taken off this list I'm afraid to say.........

I f&^%ing hate rap.

I do like some rap acts. But sorry, this did nothing for me. 1/5

They say segregation was bad but the woman on the cover looks neatly dressed, wearing airpods, it couldn't have been that bad What makes rappers think their albums are worth the runtime? This rapping is as impressive as leaving the first comment

Yeah.

These 1001 albums are either hippie weed moods, electronica droll or crap rap. Common is crap rap

Dumb lyrics, n-words, gay slurs, boring music, and way too long.

I was just sinking into a coma, thinking how awful this was and oh god when will it end, when a really good track came on and woke me up again. So I checked and ...yep, the album had ended and it was Spotify suggesting tracks for me (in this case by Chance the Rapper). Nuff said, I think.

Too long for a shitty ass rapper. Honestly the beats are the only good thing but the rapping/length is so aids im giving it a 1

My biggest criticism is that it was difficult to understand what he was saying. Given rap is mainly about the “message”, it seems pointless when many don’t understand your words. Not sure if it was the way it was recorded or the way he speaks. Musically it was good in places, others it was boring. It was good to hear his fathers poem on here.

Scratch… scratch…scratch this.

Not my type of music.

Not my thing. Only one song that I sorta of liked, otherwise....no.

Horrible

Laaaaangweilig

I try to give it a chance, but I do not like rap!

Listening to the first song, I thought it was another artist with the same name as Common, I was unexpectedly digging it and looking forward to the rest of the album as I thought I'd discovered something new and great. The rest of the album was not good.

Don't like this genre at all, sorry.

Another crappy rap album.

Not a fan of rap.

Not very forward thinking or female friendly. In the song about his grandma I was rooting for the other side.

There’s quite a lot of mediocre rap on this list isn’t there…

Porque tantos discos de hip hop com mais de 60 minutos?

Üblich dröger Hiphop/Rap.

Nu testas mitt psyke igen. Hur mycket skit ska jag tåla innan jag dräper någon?

Some pretty cool production but homophobia can GTFO.

Not my cup of tea. It's an incredible long album yet there was not a single song that stood out on it...the lyrics didn't age well either. It was challenging to get through this one.

First listen Saved 3/16 Top track: Time Travelin'

Uncommonly boring.

Scott Kelly's noncing World Cup participant.

Why are these songs so bad? It's the questions. Actual worst album I've ever listened to.

Terrible. Simply terrible.

Yeah, sorry, I'll pass. (Didn't age that well, either.)

Just not my thing.

So bad…

Zzzzzzzzzzz

Sorry, this stuff just doesn’t work for me.

outcast does the flirting with jazz samples way better and this rap is very boring

Was okay probably wouldn't listen again, prefer his acting

Not aged well sexist homophobic and probably a bit racist. Just some man talking about shagging bitches and shooting people

No gusta

This is Common's fourth album, and it was his critical and commercial breakthrough album - being certified gold in the US. The hip-hop album received praise from many music critics for being able to tell stories throughout the songs, as well as discussing socio-political issues about race. To me, this type of rap is old-school and outdated. It doesn't have that "oomph" that modern hip-hop has, and the skits on many tracks gets old really fast. I didn't find much to like about this album, but I don't hate it either.

I thought it was shit tbh. Good looking guy though

This is a long record that has not aged well. Nothing stood out to me but the gay slurs.

No me tomé la molestia

Putamadre qué de mal humor me pone escuchar a este cabrón

I can’t do anymore hip hop. Sorry.

not my type of rap

Nee helaas

Boring

Don't know what to say, this was just awful

Rap is not my music. It has to be special to though me.

Homophobic slur on track 4. Avoid.

Not my cup of tea

i like! felt a lil long but it was good. so far all the songs are good
