Reviews (page 4 of 8)
Just such a great album, anyone who thinks he was only about singles (which he was chiefly) should listen to this. Fantastic pop.
Classic T-rex
I haven’t listened to much T. Rex before now. I liked this album.
A revelation! Did not know this record and not much about T. Rex (or T. Rexstasy!) but totally dig the beautiful, sprawling holy mess of this. All the strings, the bounding drumming, the out-of-control of guitar hooks and Bolan's dizzyingly good vocals.
He get's his slinky groove on so effortlessly
Glam rock. Un 4.
I enjoyed listening to this album a lot. My fave track is Metal Guru.
I fell in love with T. Rex on my second listen of Electric Warrior last year, but I've never explored their discography much. This is more of the same, and that's great news! In a lot of ways sounds like 90s indie music. T Rex and Roxy Music show what glam rock is possible of. It's groovy and cool, in a lot of ways looks back to 50s rock n roll. All fantastic songs despite there being 13 of them, from the mellow guitar playing to fine production that escapes its comfort zone often, I couldn't think of one I disliked, and I can't wait to have new favorites that compare to "Jeepster" or "Life's a Gas." Favorites: Metal Guru, Mystic Lady, Rock On, The Slider, Telegram Sam, Chariot Choogle
The best trex album. 4
Really enjoyed this album. One to listen to again.
4.75
Listened to on 8/22/22 4/5 Favorite song: mystic lady, the slider Very easy-listening rock music
I Heard This GIMME something New
Really cool. This had been an album that I had meant to listen to for ages. Better late than never. Strong 4, maybe a 5 with more listens
3.5
Wild and loose but also beautifully layered. Bolan had a great voice and there's a sense of anything goes to the production – reaching for max impact and the big gesture, even in the acoustic songs. A big, messy, sprawling work of rock and roll art.
Ok. Only ever heard best ofs of T-Rex. I hear the 'formulaic' criticism/concern of Tony Visconti and yeah its valid, but at the same time, even the not standout tunes here are so irrepressible its hard not to love the whole thing. The formula is gold. Interested to see how this compares to Electric Warrior. Best tracks, Chariot Choogle, Metal Guru, Buick Mackane
It’s not my favourite T-Rex album, but I’m always happy to see them pop up!
It *is* basically Electric Warrior part two—having finally discovered what would make people buy Bolan's records in large quantities, "more of the same" was certainly logical—but damn it's good anyway. Tony Visconti's production, partly his string arrangements, definitely elevates things.
Some more T-Rex to spice up May. Some goood ones on here, a nice combination of rock and bop.
Was great, never heard of them
LP
I listened to this several times because I love at T rex. What iconic music and such a unique style. Noone has a singing voice like him. It's kind of slow and sexy rock and always puts me in a good mood
I don' think I've even gone and listened to T.Rex despite them being a major influence in a lot of music I like. But I really enjoyed this album and fun to hear those influences in it.
I think this album is pretty one-note. It’s a great sound, but the songs seem to follow that formula. Again, it’s not necessarily a bad thing, but it tends to overstay its welcome after listening through about halfway. If you don’t enjoy glam rock you will probably tire of this album very very quickly. However, overall I think it’s a good formula to stick to, for a while at least. Favorite track: Buick McCane
As good as glam gets
4/5. Non-Bowie glam-rock can only be so good 🤷♂️
The thing that I’ve always liked about T. Rex is how Marc Bolan combines pretty melodies and his soothing voice with a crunchy, dirty guitar tone. It’s an effective balance and keeps his material engaging, even this could have been a song or two shorter. B, it might need a minus but I’ll give it the benefit of the doubt today
This one surprised me. Really liked it.
Very enjoyable music
So fun, was a little apprehensive of this sounding classic rock-samey but had some really cool energy that brings it up
Second T. Rex album for me so far. While no song reaches the heights of Jailbreak, this album as a whole is more sonorous and listenable than Electric Warrior. There's a refinement to them that may be less experimental, but more polished. They are a solid 4/5 band!
Excellent.
I really like this one!
Somewhat singular in its sound, but there's no denying that there are some catchy songs here. For me, standouts include Mystic Lady and The Slider.
I've listened to TREX before but not this album. Definitely will listen again.
Pretty great. 4/5
All songs sound the same...which was OK, because quite liked them
It's hard to believe this is from 1972. It sounds very modern. It's also hard to believe I've never heard this before.
Idk but I enjoyed this a little more than Electric Warrior, could just have been my mood. Not every track is a straight A but between the two I think at least one of these albums deserves a 4.
I always preferred Tyrannosaurus Rex and the early T.Rex albums. The Slider is the last great (even the last good) album Bolan made, there was a lot of filler in the subsequent albums. There are signs of the decline in The Slider, but he manages to avoid them for one last time.
The Slider features the icon cover photo taken by (supposedly?) Ringo Starr, is the follow-up album to T-Rex's classic, Electric Warrior. Musically, this feels like a sequel, with a similar sound to Warrior. The songs are accessible and enjoyable, but a feel it's a slight step back quality-wise. Still a great album, well worth seeking out! It's funny, I had this on the turntable last week, so it was fresh on my mind.
This is a fun record. I really liked it. Another one I've never listened to. The crunchy guitars are cool. The vocals are unique but still listenable and well-arranged (backup harmonies are cool). It's like a really weird record that uses elements of music that are very "normal." And, this was released in 1972. Must have been pretty innovative for the time. And, an influence on Bowie, for sure. Right? I really like the mellotron in "Mystic Lady." It reminds me of the mellotron/synth pads in "Porcelina of the Vast Oceans" by Smashing Pumpkins. Real cool.
So, I may have biased myself by digging too far into the liner notes for this one. I noticed that Ringo Starr was credited with the cover art, then learned that he took the photos as part of a documentary he was filming about a poolside concert that John Lennon was throwing at his house featuring, among other bands, T-Rex. This is a great album even if I hadn't known any of that. But, knowing that, it's easy to picture them playing for the Beatles. This definitely sounds like a band they would dig. They're clearly influenced by the Beatles, but also unique and talented in their own right. It actually sounds like an album that the Beatles would have put out had they still been together at the time. The guitar tones, harmonies, and even the lyrics are familiar in that sense - but they also built on it and made it their own. I could go 5 on this, but I'm acknowledging my own bias. I may regret it later, but - high 4.
Starting with "Metal Guru" there's an element of rockabilly in how the rhythm takes one back to maybe a diner in the 50s as it would fit rather nicely. That's about where the novelty ends though, but not so much in a negative sense. "Metal Guru" may be one of the most successful Track 1s in recent memory where the tone for the rest of the album is appropriately set. Expectations are set with the least amount of disappointment. Even where elements start to shine as in the title track "The Slider" with small bits of strings, the album throws in enough variety for this to be very enjoyable. Vocally, they meld well with the musical composition in a way that neither are fighting each other, it works and it is done well. Overall, this is a great listen and would positively recommend any listener to experience it for themselves.
I had only ever listened to bang a gong by this band before this album, but I liked this album. It was just a solid glam rock album, not much else to say. Fav: rock on
7/10
This album feels like it was way before its time.
I've always enjoyed T. Rex, but have never delved too deeply beyond the hits. I had no idea they released so many albums, looking at their discography on Wikipedia I'm shocked. I just assumed they were one of those 2 or 3 albums released followed by tragedy of Marc Bolan's death. I really need to delve deeper into their catalog now. 4 stars.
I enjoyed this album. Had never heard any of it before. Can really hear the David Bowie/Mott the Hoople style experimentation of the early 70s rock. You can see why this music was cited as an influence for such a wide array of bands and musical styles. Favorite songs for me were Rock on and Baby Boomerang.
3.7 - solid album that I really enjoyed. Nice guitar riffs and vocals from a n artist that screamed fun. Baby Boomerang and Spaceball Ricochet were two stand out tracks.
3.5 - T. Rex has some good songs on this album, but as a whole it doesn’t hit that hard.
Great vibe throughout and some classic tunes.
I really liked this album, definitely reminds me of Bob Dylan but leaning a little more into the rock side of things rather than the folk side. I'm also hearing some early 60s rock influence like The Beatles and The Who. All around I really enjoy T. Rex's sound. 7/10
That's more like it. T Rex at the height of their powers are like a force of nature. And this is about as it gets. It's got two huge hit singles, "Metal Guru" and "Telegram Sam", which means this was released at about the time I first discovered the band. I don't listen to enough T Rex. I'll put that right today.
I really like this… it’s perfect glam rock pop. Marc certainly knew his way around a good melody!
Pretty flawless glam. Marc Bolan understood the assignment. Fave track - "Metal Guru" is one of the standouts. Also "Ballrooms of Mars"
Enjoyable, good glam fun.
I really liked it. Not what I was expecting.
I was frantically cooking Indian food while listening to this so it didn’t get my best attention, but I thought it was fun if slightly cheesy. 7/10
7/10. Pretty enjoyable
Awesome album by T. Rex. I could add this to my regular listening queue. Glamorous.
T. Rex is a band that I absolutely love, and yet always get the impression that I probably don't appreciate them as much as I should. This album lacked any of the "hits" I was already familiar with, but every single track was a joy.
Cooles Album!
4/5
classic glam rock
Un grande disco di glam rock
Oh this is good! Solid rock without having to try too hard. Fun listen. Not really any misses and songs don't drag on. The whole album together gets a but similar but not enough to drag it down.
-Relatively calm rock
Gotta love that early 70s Prod.
Sounds very similar to electric warrior which I really like also
I DRUNK MYSELF BLIND TO THE SOUND OF OLD T REX (and who's next?) love it love it icons for a reason! metal guru, baby strange
Coming right on the heels of Electric Warrior, this sounds like it could be part of the same album, though overall, the supporting songs aren't as strong. It would have been nice to be a UK resident in 72, when Telegram Slam & Metal Guru both hit #1 on the pop charts! I will never tire of listening to the title track.
Big and up front 70s rock and roll sound. Feels like a fun album, definitely in the boat rock glam feel of things. Spaceball Ricochet is very David Bowie like. Yea this is peak boat rock
Rock. No está mal. Me suenan.
Con este disco he recordado mis 15 años. Rock del bueno.
muy buen disco!
Fin 70-tallsrock.
Psychedelic rock meets American pie
I'm not a fan of Glam rock, although the album had a couple of songs I liked, but kudos for what they did to advance the genre
Totally surprising. I thought it was going to be dumb Bang A Gong, but it was actually a pretty cool Bowie variant. Enjoyed.
Good shiz
Bowie in a good way
Brilliant. Some great tracks like Buick mackane, telegram Sam, ballroom on mars mixed with nice catchy guitar songs
Relisten later!
I think I like T.Rex after their second listen from albums on this list/generator. Good glam rock, upbeat and fun.
That was an album I have never heard before. The first part of the album was really catchy, but it fell off after that.
very good. Fuzzy grunge rock vibe.
Favorites: The Slider, Buick Mackane Notes: Feel-good music, made me appreciate the old type or style of Rock.
Slow in the middle.
S tier glam record

Bowie sounds like Marc Bolan, sounds like, Billie Corgan.
rawr
Really cool. Groundbreaking music
Always thought of Bolan as a singles sort of guy / band. This hasn't really changed my mind.
Solid effort and good songs - especially for the seventh album. A couple of tracks stand out but most of it sounds just like T. Rex.
It was fine. Pretty good.
I sort of like Marc Bolen. This album was sort of listenable. Overall, not very much up my alley.
goeie glam rock.. maar ook niet meer
This felt really cohesive, but without having all the songs mindlessly blend together. I liked this more than I expected.
I was never much of a glam rock enthusiast, with a couple of obvious exceptions, but The Slider is a solid album. There are still plenty of tracks I'll be skipping in the future, they're just not my thing, but there are more than enough that I enjoy. Overall, though, I feel like the album quickly gets stuck in a rut of repetitive riffs and song structures. Favourite track: The Slider
It's a pretty fun album, but most of the songs just establish a motif and just run with it on repeat until it feels very tired. Kind of surprised that my favourite tracks are not the famous singles.
I had wanted to explore this band after catching a single or two (from other albums) on my Spotify autoplay. This was a good opportunity to listen to and learn more about them, but wasn’t a notable album for me otherwise.
6.5/10
Trex
Anyone else getting "Rocking Muppets" vibes from "Rock on?" I like the crunchy-yet-clean guitars. I can't think of anyone else who was doing that in 1972. This is an exceptionally well recorded and mastered album Telegram Sam is essentially the same song as Get It On. For 1972, I think this was something very different, and I can absolutely understand why T. Rex were such a sensation at the time. Overall, enjoyable for me. ⭐⭐⭐.49
very nice disco glam rock before any one else
There are a lot of songs in the beginning of this album I enjoyed, but the longer it went on, it just got blander and blander.
Found it a little uneven but it does cook when it’s on
Didn't click as much as their other record did.
Would I listen again: nah
oh neat, another T.Rex. It definitely sounds like T.Rex. Yep. Not really intense enough to be encouraging me to 'rock on' but ok. Somewhat better than the last one but still not really my jam.
Just another rock album.
T rex is such a cool name for a band
This was an ok listen. Reminded me of Love and Rockets in spaces. Telegram Sam later became Bang a Gong. 3/5
Pretty good older rock album.
Solid riffs and cool vocals. If you're looking for the roots of 70s rock, here you go. "Roots" is key, though. T. Rex isn't the rock juggernaut they were made out to be - mostly wind up rather than follow through. The cover of Electric Warrior looks like the most monster rock album of all time. But, well ... s'okay, right? The Slider ranks a little below EW for me, which is to say I'm glad I listened to it but likely won't again.
I am not the highest on glam rock. I think it is hit or miss. 3.5 stars
More of a B-minus Rex. There is an ultra classic glam sound throughout here that is very slinky and slip-slidy with a perfect sexy balance of strings, fuzzy rock n roll riffs and purring meowing backing vocals. Actual songs themselves tend to be a somewhat half-powered bunch. Right off the bat is the outright catchiest and also most annoying song with Metal Guru Iz-It-You (or easy chew, or ere’s a tune). The Smiths really did the tune a favour by re-using the best of it for their 1986 single Panic. There are some other semi-decent highlights like the title track and Ballroom From Mars but it’s really only on Buick Meccano that the band kick it up a maelstrom notch and feel extra imperious and supercharged with the spirit of true rock coursing through their veins and beefing up their DNA momentarily before disappearing again.
Pretty decent rock album I think it would’ve been a bit better if it wasn’t right after Jimi Hendrix
Not much to say here. It’s a well-made rock album, but aside from catchy hooks and guitar riffs, it’s really only that - a well-made rock album. There wasn’t a memorable moment aside from checking to see if it was almost over.
The perfect album to hear in a pool hall, but nothing stood out.
Rating:★★★
Second T. Rex Album, I like it but also its the second one I've heard so idk it's not showstopping to me but it still is a solid album I think
OK. Distinctive sound but the album grinds on a bit with not a lot of variety between tracks.
This was my first ever spin of this. Fun album.
I like T.Rex and this is a fun album …not as good as some of the others, but enjoyable.
Not as deep nor as broad as Bowie, not as monumental as The Beatles or The Stones, nevertheless, Bolan carved out a perfectly realised niche for himself. Formulaic, but it is a formula which is deployed with irresistible confidence and swagger. The singles, Metal Guru in particular, are probably the best tracks but it's a solid package from start to finish.
New band to me. Rock on sounded a lot like Axl Rose. It def sounds newer than the 70s. Nice, but probably won't revisit. 3*
Fine album, but I feel like the other T. Rex album I got, which contained more familiar songs, pretty much covered everything that needs to covered about T. rex.
Some good songs but too glam for my liking
I'm not really familiar with any of T. Rex's stuff outside of the big hits, so I didn't know any of the songs on this album. T. Rex was really the pioneers of glam rock, and this album is clearly a solid example of the genre. For me personally, the album was very hit or miss. I really loved a couple of the more rock heavy, upbeat songs. But, I found some of the slower songs to be a bit boring. I also thought that a lot of the songs were very repetitious - same lyrics repeating, same chords repeating. Solid album, but not adding it to my personal playlist.
Okay to good album. But I won’t add it to my permanent list.
Rating: 7/10 Resoundingly solid glam rock, fun and energetic and has a fuzzy and raw sort of sound which is cool. The songs are all pretty good but after Metal Guru I don't think there are many exceptional highlights for me
Samey and meh.
I hate to admit there are some decent tunes on this album. I think I'd prefer them sung and played by a different band though
Many similar sounds were released around the same time as the Rolling Stones, according to the year of their release.
Okay
Doesn't hit as hard as Electric Warrior. Really liked 'Spaceball Ricochet,' tho.
...
I think I like glam rock as a genre cos of my teenage obsession with Ziggy Stardust. Rock On also takes me back to the BBC show Life on Mars!!! This album tails off a tiny bit and is a touch samey but still a solid 7.5/10. Rounded down cos they dont do half stars on this thing!
Like the Beatles at their rockiest, a lot of great guitar tones and good vibes throughout. While I did love the guitar tones, riffs and was pleasantly surprised by how many songs I knew, I didn’t love the singing and the songs overall didn’t stay with me.
Music is nice enough but the repetitive nature of each song becomes tedious. I see no genius here.
I tried to explain to my kids what “glam rock” was. Honestly I’m still not entirely sure, but I know that Mark Bolan is at the forefront of whatever it is. It feels like he and Bowie basically invented and perfected this sub genre and they are by far the best purveyors of it. In typical fashion the list has sidestepped the more obvious and successful Electric Warrior, but this one ain’t bad. I will say for my money I prefer Bauhaus’s frenetic cover of Telegram Sam over the more subdued original on this album.
Hmm, not doing much for me, definitely of its time, and does sound a bit dated... and I do find his voice a bit irritating, but that's a very personal thing! Not compelled to give this a 2nd listen, but did manage to listen to the whole thing!
i found it too soft, repetitive, a little boring even. none of the songs really stood out. though i couldn't say that this is a bad album. it's some fine glam rock, it's just that i've had higher hopes for this.
It had the potential to be significantly better than it is.
This had been on my list for awhile. I enjoyed their sound and I'm looking forward to listening to more of their music in the future.
Some solid rock. As usual I prefer the instrumental stuff over the vocals, so stuff like "Buick Mackane" plays better to my tastes
This one was okay, it feels pretty standard. Not bad but nothing stood out to me
This is an album caught between very good and ok. It’s a 2010’s album
Not familiar with this band. It was a nice discovery, I liked the Metal Guru track, but besides that the album is rather forgetable.
Some cool old rock sounds, pretty good album. Wasn't mad for it though. I think it's his voice isn't quite my thing
Rythmic
Very meh
It’s fine
Listened to this on repeat like threes times while I was cleaning the house and didn’t notice. Not sure if that’s a good thing or bad thing
It had some good moments but some bad ones too. Would be interested to listen to another one by them sometime
Ok
It was okay I guess, but I'm not a fan of this genre, and it just brings to mind other pop bands from the same era. Something about the production or musical arrangements seems to hark back to the 60s, even to the 50s, and this leaves me cold. I mulled long and hard on this, and was going to go with two stars. However, in reflection I'm going with three. I think some of my bias is that this falls into the category of "pop music for the generation immediately before mine". I think it's natural to have distaste for your parent's and older sibling's music. I also partly lump this into the even worse category of "music that sounds a bit like Gary Glitter did", which makes my stomach churn. I think it's unfair to downvote Marc Bolan on this basis, so there you go.
solid rocking album.
While I really liked the first album by T.Rex, this one fell a little flatter for me. I still enjoyed it, but I wasn't really vibing with any specific songs.
Groovy. 3.5/5
Ever rose has its thorns, and ever day has its dawn. This 1972 Classic by T-Rex is the roots and dawn to the glam age. Fostering a little more of the rock sound, and later cross pollinating with Bowie’s image and you have 1980s glam rock. I like my metal a little heavier personally but I respect Marc Bolan’s efforts, especially when taking into consideration the time period. Metal Guru is a bit of an over statement but you can definitely hear some KISS and Poison in there. Mel Brookes putting a song called Spaceball Ricochet on the album for the upcoming movie was a new level of marketing. It was a good album with no regrets but it was also difficult for me to find a “favorite song.” I think Chariot Choogle probably wins the title but I don’t know if the song will stick with me long term.
Random thoughts: * I love me some glam T Rex. Marc Bolan was clearly awsome! * With that being said, The Slider is not necessary. Everything you need from T Rex you can get form the far superior album Electric Warrior. * This feels like just going back to that well but with less good songs. * There are moments here but not worth a second inclusion onto 1001. * Go play Electric Warrior 10 more times and only listen to this one if you ever get bored with Electric Warriror.
I have the same reaction to T. Rex every time. At first it’s the best thing ever. Then it gets less and less interesting. By the 5 th song I’m sick of it.
this was pretty mid
Can never determine if I like T. Rex or not. With glam rock, I really have to be in the mood for it but Bolan cuts a charming enough figure.
Never heard this one before. It was okay.
What a great listen this was! Rock music that has a vibe both deep and fun. Also nice to be back in the era of great sounding recordings. They did a great job with the production of this album. I’ve only ever heard Electric Warrior so it was great to listen to this one and I’m definitely gonna check out the rest of his discography!
Not my favorite of theirs but not bad.
I liked a lot of the instrumentals on this album; it’s a standard rock sound but quite a classic sound which I think I’m always going to enjoy. I’d say there was a decent amount of range between the songs perhaps it could use some more signature guitar riffs here and there in songs. My notable songs are ‘Metal guru’ and ‘Buick Mackane’, I felt like the second listen was better than the first, but I do feel like some songs became a little samey sounding. Overall, I do think this is a good solid album and I’m debating whether to rate 3 or 4 stars, I think for me it wasn’t just quite enough to put into the 4 stars. So It’s on the high end of 3 stars, I just felt like I could of used a little bit more here and there, but I wouldn’t say there’s a bad song and understand why it would be on this list.
I guess I had to be there? I’m not seeing the hype.
T Rex remains the biggest enjoyable surprise I've had from this list. Verging on 4 stars
I like this much more than the other T.Rex album on the list. It still comes across to me a little bit like Bowie Lite, but that can be high praise.
The high points of this album reach pretty high. The low points are unfortunately very meh. I would say there is more good here than meh, but I think it's a weaker effort for T Rex than Electric Warrior was. Like on EW, the music is mostly solid. It does a good job of rocking without overdoing it much. The end result sounds pretty cool. There are a few tracks that falter in that aspect, sounding a little more similar to 50s pop/rock than something you'd hear in the 70s. They don't stick out too badly, for what it's worth. The vocals seemed a bit more prevalent to me here than the previous album. Rather than blending in, I thought they did a good job as a unique element to add to the song. The lyrics could be dumb, but that didn't ruin the overall vibe. As a whole, I found The Slider to be a solidly good album. I didn't like it as much as their previous Electric Warrior, but I still enjoyed this one well enough. There weren't any particularly bad songs and plenty of good ones. I'd listen again. Overall: 3.2/5
Yes
I really liked the previous T.Rex offering but this one didn’t keep my attention as much. Didn’t seem quite as interesting as the last one and ended up dragging a bit.
I enjoyed the early 70s rock sounds, and the songs were diverse, but it didn’t hit like I thought it might. I wonder if this is one of those albums that I listened to for the first time too late, too old, after too many other more impactful records from the 70s. Good album nonetheless.
Decent vibe
Most of the record feels like swaying bubble gum pop with fuzz guitars instead of real rock. Not actually bad, but not very exciting either.
- this feels theatrical and more in the vein of Bowie, Elton John, or Queen than any of the more blues-based U.S. rock groups from the early and mid-70s. I associate this kind of music exclusively with the U.K., so I can see why T. Rex didn't do well in the U.S. - I'm starting to be able to pick up on the features that embody "glam rock" now: lots of vocalizing, from "aaahs" and "la la las" in the background to multiple voices jumping in for the chorus, sometimes even an octave higher than the main melody; a bounciness in the beat; other instruments besides guitar, bass, one singer, and drums (e.g., orchestral strings in "The Slider," bongos in "Boomerang") - what is the squirting sound in the title track -- it sounds like someone misting their plants with a squirt bottle - "Buick McCane" sounds like something the Black Keys could have put out back in 2010. additionally, some of the vibrato the lead singer does reminds me of early Arcade Fire for some reason - I was less impressed with the slower songs, and they seemed to drag on for a while. I wouldn't listen to this album again, but I didn't actively dislike it -- the faster songs were fun in a uniquely glam rock kind of way, but this genre isn't my favorite and this album didn't seem fully exemplary of the genre in the way an Elton John or Bowie album might
I like T. Rex a lot and this is solid but there's not a ton of variation to his sound
7/10
There are some bangers on this album, some duds too. It sounds exactly as I expected, but that’s necessarily a bad thing. Not an all time classic, but. I would listen again.
Can’t say I loved it. But I didn’t hate it, either.
Having just had Billion Dollar Babies right before this album I’m in my glam rock era evidently. I couldn’t be happier with that. I had a lot of mixed feelings on how to rate this album. The songwriting is…okay. The musicianship is really good and the hooks are insane. This album is punch after punch. Jabs each one. A variety of energetic “one note” songs with great production. Killer
No pude prestar atención
a silver-studded saber-toothed dream
Not enough glam in this glam rock!
the three-starriest album to ever be more than two stars and less than four stars. what is everyone else hearing that i'm not? that certainly was an album. also did anyone else besides me think T. Rex was a riot grrl band for some reason? no? just me? imagine my disappointment finding out the lead singer wasn't a raspy-voice butch woman and was instead Some Guy. smh
It’s no bang a gong get it on
Pretty solid, just not something I'd pick to listen to over and over.
Definitely getting Bowie vibes from this. Pretty good songs on their own, but not too exciting or standout as an album.
T. Rex are a strange case for me. There are individual T. Rex songs I outright love, and when I listen to their albums it sure sounds like something I’d enjoy. But as a whole their full-lengths don’t really do it for me. It’s enough for me to like it fine, but not love it. It’s checking boxes but not knocking me over. Not to say there were no highlights but I wasn’t taken with it as a whole - I think the songs sound too same-y even within themselves.
KISS Keep It Simple, Stupid seems to be this guy's mantra and I'm alright with it. Why? Because sometimes simple works, plain and simple. That's what the vast majority of the album is: simple, yet effective. The songs are earwormy & fun. They tend to sound similar at times but fun. I love Buick McCane it reminded of the White Stripes. 3
Some solid songs on this album. I've never heard of it before. Some really good guitars as well
Now I know a lot more about T. Rex than I previously did, and TBH that's pretty cool. Didn't hate it, and I can respect anyone who's way into T. Rex, but don't think this is going to be my new obsession.
3.5
Favorite Track: Metal Guru
A good album, I liked Baby Boomerang and Ballrooms of Mars the most.
I thought The Slider was a solid, enjoyable album overall. However, none of the tracks really grabbed me or stood out as especially exciting. A lot of them blend together sonically, but at the same time, none of them were bad enough to make me want to hit skip.
7 - GOOD
Decent listen
3.3 stars
Difficult for me to judge. I listened to it a couple times.
It was a bit tame, but not so much that I fell asleep halfway through. So maybe that's faint praise?
7.5 / 10
This was ok, a few strange vocal choices throughout. 3.3/5
Not my favorite T-Rex album, but it's got a comfortable swagger about it that makes it easy to listen to if not particularly memorable
Favorite Track: Rock On
There were songs I loved and some I couldn't care less about. Mixed feelings.
Buick McCane is a jam. Telegram Sam sounds exactly like Bang a Gong without the energy that made the original catchy. Otherwise, I felt like this played out like a less interesting version of Electric Warrior. So enjoyable, but not nearly as memorable. low 3
Telegram Sam sounds like it's right off of Flight b741. This one started out meh and then found its groove. Just enough to get from a soft 3 to strong 3, but not really enough for a 4 by any means.
glam rock lite. Later stuff better
Not as good as the other T. Rex album
It was fine overall.
T. Rex – The Slider On Day 45, The Slider stands as another decent listen that ultimately lacks personal replay value. The production is undeniably great, and tracks like Metal Guru and Telegram Sam definitely lived up to the hype in terms of their sound and energy. However, even with that polished wall of sound, the album as a whole didn't do enough to make me want to come back to it. It’s a solid 3/5—I can see the technical appeal and the influence it had, but it’s not something I’ll be adding to my permanent rotation.
Overall it’s a good album that’s very much in the Bowie glam rock style- I didn’t realize they were both going on at the same time. Listening to the Slider got me to check out Electric Warrior, and I think that’s the better album of the two.
Call up Telegram Sam and he’ll tell you, this album is a Spaceball Ricochet in the Ballrooms of Mars.
Good album.
Electric Warrior was so good. This just doesn't feel impactful the same way. I guess I'll give it a 3, but I'd be OK leaving it off this list...
A bit samey.
3 - good album
It was alright. The voice started annoying me towards the end however.
An impressively rigid naming structure to songs. Album did start to drag a bit
Don't hate it. Don't love it. It's for someone, just not me.
Not as into it as I thought I'd be
I see a huge influence on Oasis in this album, besides the usual comparison with cigs and alcohol. Great songs and lots of energy, light 7/10.

background rock
I'll put it as a 3 to go back to it. It might get marked down to a 2
3 stars
I liked the sounds and the bass lines. I like this type of music, but I don’t know how often I’d seek this specific album out. I had heard of this guy before, mainly for the GONG. It was decent, but my socks are still on.
T.Rex is fun and probably forgot about too much but that being said they shouldn’t have two albums on this list.
No private session used for Spotify. I certainly know T.Rex but haven't ever sat down an listened to an album. It rocks, there is a sameness in a lot of the songs, but not annoyingly so.
It was easy to listen to but nothing special. It does remind me of Alex Turner and the Arctic Monkeys a bit, so maybe they were an inspiration for them
Not bad, definitely listenable but it didn't really captivate me. The songs started sounding similar from time to time, but the guitar solo in Buick Makane stood out as well as Telegram Sam as a whole. I saved 7/13 songs so 3/5 ⭐️
Its a cool sound appropiate for the era, sounds a lot like all other bands from the time period but nothing really to make them pop out in my opinion. This album has some a little more experimental and cretaive but not enought to wow me
It did me some good to listen to this one again, it's been a long time.
A bit odd but in a fun way, I liked this one pretty well.
Two T. Rex albums on this list, huh? Seems unnecessary. This wasn't a bad album, but it didn't move me much. Just played it in the background and worked. 3.
No bangers on this one, but it was fine.
This is fine, but I'm not understanding the overwhelming love for the meandering slow blues riffs in every damn song.
I liked it, cool songs and and enjoyable all the way through.
No major complaints but not my favorite T. rex either.
Liked it enough!
Good album, will likely grow on me, but didn’t massively click on first listen though I can tell it’s a classic.
I expected better. But ok, I suppose.
i liked this more than Electric Warrior (3.5)
Can hear how this would be influential probably was. Haven’t heard T Rex for ages. Mixed bag of tracks - lost me in parts but some classics glam here for sure.
Wasn't that excited for it after Electric Warrior, but it is pretty fun for what it is
A good album but I didn’t like it as much as Electric Warrior, the home of the hits.
Aloud glam rock. Willl need to revisit.
I don't think I get this. If I do get it, it's not for me. Very clear stylistic choices, and very deliberate sound, but none of it is interesting.
Never was much into glam rock, with the exemption of Bowie and the New York Dolls, and this album doesn't change my opinion much. It's decent, and reminds me in parts of "Ziggy Stardust" and apart from a few tracks, like "Spaceball Ricochet" and " Buick Mackane" in particular - it's very much of the same. 3/5
Eh, this is OK. Glam rock isn't really my thing.
T. Rex is one of my blindspots, a band I know only by reputation and the hits ("Bang a Gong" specifically). This probably isn't the ideal entry point, but it was enjoyable all the same even if it started to blend together a bit by the time "Main Man" closed things out.
Metal Guru Telegram Sam Ballrooms of Mars
I liked electric warrior better
Decent but very samey. Definitely T-Rex
Favorite track(s): Mystic Lady, The Slider, Buick Mackane
Kinda samey and not super interesting, though Buick Mackane hits like a truck.
The music is alright and there is variation between songs, but the songs themselves seem to all just iterate on the same thing. Not for me: low 3. Will review later as time allows.
78/100 i think electric warrior is 4 stars and this one is very close but i’ll give it 3 stars still
Extremely T Rex. Except for a couple of tracks that seem to come from the future. It's Ok.
A bit M'eh
Had not heard of them but glad I did it. It’s like a classic rock version of ELO. Definitely worth a listen.
Generic Brit rock
Fun angsty album
Metal Guru // Buick Mackane // Rabbit Fighter // 3.5/5
Exceptionally mid. There's nothing here that would compel me to listen to this again.
Inte så märkvärdigt. En trea
Oikein tiukka rokkiplatta! 3/5
Varsin kelpo rock-levy
whimsical honky tonk glam, but it feels like a large jumble of B-sides. not great, not terrible.
Can confirm this is a rock album.
