Reviews (page 3 of 8)

Good for weed eating, not as pleasant for mowing. But overall, enjoyable. 4 stars

Like a lot of T. Rex, it's very fun, but not quite as good as Electric Warrior. 4.0/5.0: Great

If you’d asked me two months ago if I preferred this to Electric Warrior, I would have said, “Yes, I prefer The Slider.” But nope! I guess I was wrong. What a wild day, huh?

It immediately sounds like a more intense Bowie creation. I got that impression less than 2 seconds into the opening track, Metal Guru. Something about T. Rex's intonation and mannerisms, even his hair and expression on the album cover, give off this glamorous alien alter-ego persona much like that of Ziggy Stardust. The production is a little messy and overwhelming, which unfortunately was a bit of a counterculture fixture of the 70s. That, along with the music here not being very catchy or singable, is what drops this down to a 4. I have the exact same criticisms for Aladdin Sane – the two records actually parallel each other in a lot of ways. More consistent than Electric Warrior, T. Rex's previous album – though I feel I rated that one a little harshly when I first heard it over a year ago. Electric Warrior has stronger singles, but The Slider so incredibly slick and stylistically assured that I couldn't help but enjoy it more. Rock On, The Slider, Baby Boomerang, Buick Mackane, Telegram Sam, Chariot Choogle, Ballrooms Of Mars... Every song has a slightly different feel to the last, and the riffs aren't anything to sneeze at. They're well thought out and excellently played. 4/5 Key tracks: Rock On, The Slider, Buick Mackane

12 songs... mostly of the boogie woogie RnR vibe... all strong songs... none of them all timers or homeruns... but a good album of some doubles and triples.... so, in baseball vernacular... it is a solid effort... i give it Four stars... i think in the UK they'd give it Five...

i really liked "Ballrooms of Mars" and overall it is a good, mostly upbeat playlist. i listened to it while cleaning my room

There are some real bright moments on this album, and I prefer it to Electric Warrior. It's not an album I'd want in my collection, because I just can't get into that kind of super-glammy rock, and I'm not really a fan of Bolan's voice. However, it's definitely worth four stars, perhaps on the merit of Telegram Sam and Buick Mackane alone.

This was a pretty easy 4 for me. It has that glam swagger all over it, but it also feels loose enough to be fun instead of overdone. The doo-wop style intro on “Metal Guru” was pretty funny, and then the song itself ended up being one of the better ones. I recognized the riff in “Rock On” right away, and yeah, that’s a good one. “Telegram Sam” and “Main Man” were both really solid too. Those were the tracks that stuck with me most. Favorite song: "Main Man"

I a straight white married 43 year old man and i find Marc Bolan sexy. This is really fun and well done and it makes me sad to think what we missed out on from his later career.

Solid glam rock album

This album simply oozes out fun, about equally as much as it oozes out cheese. One of those visuals is definitely more interesting than the other. I think the only track I recognised here was Telegram Sam, although the rest of the music here is in a very similar vain. This is exactly the kind of album where if you like one song, you’ll probably like them all. But if you hate one song, then don’t even bother with this. Fortunately, I love a bit of cheesy glam rock, so I land in the former camp.

Modern fresh sound. Innovative and cool listen.

A solid 70s rock album

Solid album, I can hear how this album may have influenced a lot of other artists that I like.

Favorites: Metal Guru, The Slider, Rabbit Fighter Pretty campy and great, I think there's a lot to admire about The Slider than at first glance. Really fuzzy and inventive glam rock, with fun song after fun song that really helped keep my engagement.

I have only ever listened to the hits of T.Rex. Thos was a surprisingly good album

Really like this! I have one other T. Rex album in my library but this one is new to me.

Was previously familiar with some of their work (Bang a Gong, Children of the Revolution), but I don't think I'd heard anything from this album before. Metal Guru is a great tune. Also enjoyed Rock On and The Slider. They definitely sound like a kind of progenitor for hair metal. I can hear a lot of Jack White in here too. Overall album is very good.

4.5. Top notch album.

Some great tracks.

Another one of my university albums that I worn down the grooves on, back in the day. I genuinely thought I would listen back to this and it won’t have aged too well and may even be cringe inducing like some of my other musical obsessions from around that time. But no, this was like meeting up with an old friend, one who still has new things to offer too, so I’m pleasantly surprised. I think this album gets lost in comparison to EW and Tanx, maybe because the two singles aren’t considered as strong perhaps, although Metal Guru is up there with my favourite Bolan tracks. As an entire album package though I think it pulls its weight, the only track I could take or leave was Spaceball Ricochet and that was more of a “i like this less than the others” but don’t dislike it. All the other tracks are just great fun, glam-rock at its peak, with fuzz-box rockabilly-esque guitar lines and string backing. 4.5/5

Fun to listen to, felt like it went on a little too long.

Really enjoyed this. Surprised myself.

Kul att höra mer än bara hitsen. Väldigt eget sound, igenkännbart.

Для первого впечатления (и для третьего тоже) очень даже хорошо. Электрические гитары…что может быть красивее и интереснее по звучанию! 7 из 10.

Second album I’ve heard in this list to feature the word choogle. We need to keep up the chooglin

I thought I didn't like most 70s music. It seems I just never gave it a chance, especially bands like T.Rex that didn't last into the late 80s/early 90s when I started figuring out what I liked. I've never heard anything on this album before. It's surprisingly good. There's some filler too, so it's not perfect. Favorites: Metal Guru The Slider Rabbit Fighter

As opposed to Electric Warrior, I knew none of the songs from this album. That didn’t matter though, as it was a very pleasant listening experience. I especially liked Buick Mackane, Ballrooms Of Mars and Chariot Choogle. Looking again at all these song titles they don’t make any sense, haha.

I enjoy Mr. Bolan. He’s got such an undeniable swagger to him. A good mix of slow and energetic songs to keep the album interesting. Songs don’t overstay their welcome and yet there are thirteen of them. Vocals are obviously incredible, instrumentation matches, production is there, not great, but there. Arrangement is a bit weird, but overall this is a great album. I enjoy this immensely. 4/5

A great classic full of catchy tunes.

Classic sound, fun songs

Besides their one massive hit from the early 70’s, this band was relatively unknown to me. This album was fun but didn’t achieve the highs of their contemporaries of that era. Not bad but not great.

I would have said Bang a Gong was the best T. Rex song, but maybe it's Telegram Sam.

Fun. T. Rex was always about fun and this record is no different. Standouts are "Metal Guru" and "Telegram Sam", which would later be recorded by Bauhaus.

Really great!

It’s good. I mean it gets you moving. But I think electric warrior hits the mark for me more

Johnny Marr of the Smiths said of the album: "The Slider came out and it had 'Metal Guru' on it. It was a song that changed my life as I had never heard anything so beautiful and so strange, but yet so catchy." For me, "Metal Guru" was probably the track I cared for the least on the album. Yeah, the other songs kinda bump along, but they all had moments. It just seemed like a weird single to have. I dug a lot of the other songs on this, just not that opening song. "Ballrooms of Mars" reminded me of David Bowie, actually (not surprising with Mars in the title). "Telegram Sam" reminded me a bit of psychedelic Pink Floyd. I think my favorite song on the album would be "Chariot Choogie". The groove was interesting (even the "heys" which got a little repetitive. It would have been nice to have a bigger hit to surround the other tracks with. But otherwise, I enjoyed it. Top tracks: "Chariot Choogie," "Buick MacKane," "Baby Boomerang"

My immediate thought on seeing this in the 1001 was "Does T. Rex really need two albums in the 1001?" That's not a ding on T. Rex - it's just their sound doesn't change enough between the two albums - one album would have been representative enough. After listening, I still felt the same, but I also really enjoyed listening. This album rocks and has a ton of great moments. So, I can get the editors saying "well, both albums are cool, so which do we drop? Neither? Ok!" Favorite tracks: Metal Guru (what a weird way to sing those words, but ok), Buick MacKane, Telegram Sam (has elements of a few other songs - the vocal line sounds like 20th C. Boy, which came out later, while the guitar line sounds like Get It On, which came out earlier - but it's cool), Chariot Choogle (the main heavy riff caught my attention every time I listened).

Very good early '70s rock. No sure who influenced who, but I hear a lot of David Bowie in this. Catchy with good riffs and guitars.

This must have influenced David Bowie right? I’d never heard any of this before but it sounds familiar as the production style sounds al to like some of the Beatles solo albums of this time period. I liked the meta-ness of “Ballrooms of Mars”

I‘m game for glam

Always happy to listen to a bit of T. Rex.

Went out and bought a copy of this, because I enjoyed it, but the remaster on Qobuz is obnoxiously loud.

Fun record. Very much of its time.

Fantastic album, such a tragedy this bands lifespan was cut short.

7.5/10 Way better than I expected. Very good production, extremely polished by a band in their pomp. Nice use of orchestration I could hear Hendrix, Bowie, Beatles, psychedelic and more. Best: The Slider

82% Best: Metal Guru; The Slider; Buick Mackane; Telegram Sam; Baby Strange Must-Hear? Sure

Man, there was a time when I was absolutely obsessed with this album. This and Electric Warrior I listened to a ton. And as it turns out, it still holds up for me. Solid glam rock!

5/3 Update - Album continues to grow on me. It has a vibe that keeps me coming back to it. It’s solid. There’s some great tracks, but the album as a whole lacks variety.

Just some classic Glam Rock. Wish I owned this n vinyl.

7/10 Really fun, really straightforward for a Glam Rock record, like about as prototypical as you can get for the genre if you just need an explanation for what it sounds like. I love the character and the campiness of it, it’s even got a little bit of bite at points. Doesn’t each the peaks of the genre, but there are still some pretty iconic cuts. Gay people just do it better sometimes

Rating: 8.5/10 Great sound, great riffs, and so much fun to listen to from start to finish.

decent listen

Long timen aware, first time listener. Reminds me of some Bowie, with a little more rock and a little less space cadet. I dig it.

I was surprised, this album was new for me. Cool that this guy inspired so many great artists though.

This is really good. I liked it more than Electric Warrior. Good songs that don’t take themselves too seriously. Favorites were Metal Guru, Rock On, The Slider, Spaceball Ricochet, and Telegram Sam.

Quality

I think T. Rex was really the height of fun glam--even more so than Bowie (maybe Bowie is serious glam?). Just great riffs and songs. I think Electric Warrior is better, but this album is solid. Not sure if it gets to 4.5 for me, but I love it!

Never heard of this band but it sounded like a lot of artists that I enjoyed. After checking the release date, I realized how old and influential this album has been for many following artists. The songs are catchy and everything just feels tight. It gets repetitive and I wished that some tracks would escalate a bit more but overall very good stuff. It kind of sticks with you.

(19 known/33 new)

I liked it. HAs some really nice songs on it. I'd listen again, maybe pick a couple to fav.

If I had to listen to a Glam Rock record I wouldn't mind listening to this one. It was a fun listen and I might like the singing style of this guy more than Bowie

surprisingly very good

I enjoyed this a lot more than the last T. Rex album I had, which was only a couple weeks ago! I thought the songs were a lot catchier here.

Another one I feel is ahead of its time for 72’ feels like modern pop ish rock but better - was not in the mood to listen to a full packed album of nonstop electric rifts but it made me feel the energy after I finished and bumped it up a start

I'm a fan. He's kinda rough and straddles all the fun lines like psychedelic, glam, and shock rock. I love a good fringe personality.

Style can sound pretty damn good. Even better when it's so groovilicious and sparkly. Guitars and voices dance seductively. Tasty production abounds. Then just as you settle in - strings come beckoning.

Every song on this album has two words in it except for one. Each song also seems to have an adjective that describes the word following it. I don't know if this is intentional, but these are the things I notice. I enjoyed this album more than Electric Warrior and I enjoyed that one. I have a playlist of glam rock songs and I added Metal Guru, Mystic Lady and a few other songs from this album to the list. What surprised me the most was how accessible this was, not that T. Rex's other work is not accessible, but these are well-written songs. I would suggest this one over Electric Warrior, even if Electric Warrior has the big hit on it.

I really wish there was a Marc Bolan and David Bowie collab out there somewhere. Maybe there is and I'm just not knowing what it is. T. Rex is just pure glam 70's rock and I'm all here for it. Although I imagine a lot of people will say this is just ripping off Ziggy Stardust, I find it to be much different. Songs you won't wanna miss: Metal Guru, The Slider

Really enjoyed this, very funky tunes

Very fun

Back in the day!

LOVE IT and it reminds me of billy elliot

I like T Rex plenty, my only issue is most songs sound just about the same. Always really liked the title track. lyrics make me laugh. "I had never ever kissed a car before, it's like a dooo-oor." lol Very pleasant listen all the way through, would def listen again. 3.8/5

Glam groove

Two very similar albums back-to-back here, this and yesterday's Roxy Music are both glam rock albums released only a month apart from one another in 1972. This one is a bit later-career for T. Rex though (compared to Roxy Music's debut). I honestly just think I really like music like this. This early '70s glam period is just so much fun, they can do both the shredding rock songs and the slower ballads, they don't take themselves too seriously, it's just a fun period. There's a few songs on here that feel like the precursor to like The White Stripes or The Black Keys or something, I feel like the style manages to be somewhat timeless despite the whole slightly-over-the-top glam thing. The frontman (Marc Bolan) seems to have it, I'm into it. I'm giving this a 4 too, but it's ahead of yesterday's album for the record. Less eclectic, but better. Favorite song: The Slider Other: Metal Guru, Mystic Lady, Rock On, Baby Boomerang, Spaceball Ricochet, Telegram Sam, Rabbit Fighter, Ballrooms Of Mars, Main Man 1/23/25

Liked this more than expected, not sure why I wasn’t more excited for it. Solid, groovy album throughout.

Overall: 8/10 T. Rex are so under represented in the history of rock music, because I never hear about them unless I'm talking to hardcore fans of their music (which is almost never). They had the ability to rock hard but more often they went for a groovier, laid back sound. Just listen to the opening track, Metal Guru, and tell me it sounds anything like you expected. I also enjoy this one more than Electric Warrior and feel like this is Marc Bolan's magnum opus. It's sad that Marc died so young, I feel like he still had so much to give the world. Fav Song: Buick Mackane Least Fav Song: Rabbit Fighter

Groovy, mellow, catchy hooks, pretty killer album I've completely overlooked.

Telegram Saaam, you´re my main maan...

i am thinking about buying cigarettes and alcohol to accompany my listening. but i am a minor and they don't sell anything related here. anyway it's nice. 4/5

Really enjoyable album by some guy I've never heard. Smooth rock.

I have heard the name, but didn't know the album. Really enjoyed it. Looks like it was his sophomore album.

"Telegram Sam" and "Metal Guru" are standout tracks and the true highlights of the album. While the album overall is quite good, it lacks the distinctive originality of Electric Warrior. At times, it feels more like a collection of outtakes from that album—though that's not necessarily a bad thing.

Between a 3 and a 4 for me. Rounding up because i've been harsh lately.

I liked this. I found some of the songs repetitive, but overall I enjoyed listening to it.

Definitely good! T. rex has a pretty unique sound and I like it.

This is one of those albums I always forget I like until I turn it on.

I love T-Rex. This album is not quite as good as Electric Warrior but its really close. Good sleazy rock and roll the way it used to be in the 70s. 4 stars

Fabulous album and full of hits

A classic

Rawk on!

Never heard of this band. This is pretty good

Rabbit Fighter was so good omg also this band sounds newer than the 70s THATS CRAYCRAY

Another great upbeat album with good electric guitar riffs, It's plenty catchy and sonorous. I like it lots, and t.rex's vocals are nice and easy to listen to, with everything in consideration, the album is very easy to get lost in it's melodies, it's simply a very easy smooth listen.

Pretty chill stuff for 1972.

Another really enjoyable album. I was a child in T. Rex's heyday. Marc Bolan died just up the road from where I lived as a child. So I have a bit of an affinity with their music. I had heard a few tracks on this album before, but even the tracks I was hearing for the first time were good. Not really 5 star material, but a comfortable 4 stars!

I really liked this record, I hadn't heard the whole thing in one sitting before. I sort of have a soft spot for 70s glam rock and this is a classic for sure. I'm not sure the comparisons with Bowie are exactly accurate but it's certainly in that direction. A good and fun album, 3.75/5

classic T. Rex, glam rock

rock clasico setentoso pre oasis sucio garagero

What a fun classic album. It’s amazing to see the different directions music took in the early 70s after the psychedelic 60s faded. I haven’t dug too deep into the history of glam rock, but I know this is one of the defining albums of the era. This album has that gritty garage rock feel but with clean production and catchy hooks that make it easy for most people to enjoy.

Solid and fun glam rock album all the way through. Made me go back and relisten to Electric Warrior which I definitely would change from a 3 to a 4

It's weird—I got Electric Warrior ten days ago, and now I have the following album from T. Rex. After listening to it, I can comfortably say that The Slider treads the same ground as Electric Warrior. It's pretty evident in the overall sound and compositional style that Marc Bolan found a formula that worked and stuck with it. For sure, there are some bonafide rockers like "Metal Guru" and "Buick MacKane" alongside a few genuinely good ballads like "Ballrooms of Mars" and "Mystic Lady". But there ain't much here that is innovative in relation to the previous album. If you enjoyed Electric Warrior or glam rock in general then you'll enjoy The Slider. That is about as reasonable of a recommendation as I can make.

I’ve heard of T. Rex but never engaged with their music. Had a great time! Some new favourites. 4/5

Nice British glam, comforting like a warm cup of tea

You know, I may be upset that so many of the albums I've gotten lately are British rock albums from bands I've already gotten albums from before in the past. However, that feeling typically goes away as I start listening to the album, as all of these albums have been great. Suede self-titled wasn't quite as good as Dog Man Star, but it was still solid. Parachutes was a strong debut that reaffirmed my belief that early Coldplay was actually really good. Kid A might be one of my new favorite albums ever. And now, we have to talk about my second T. Rex album, The Slider. I liked Electric Warrior. I didn't love it, but I liked it. It was actually my 100th album for the project, so that's fun. So, when I got a second album of them, I practically knew that I would like the album, but it wasn't guaranteed that I would love it. After listening to the album, I actually liked the album a bit more than I thought I would. This is some great stuff right here. It feels quite unique for the early 70s. The sound is strong. It's got some solid glam to it without being too annoying. The writing is interesting. I'd say it's pretty good though. The album's decently varied in terms of songs. That's usually a good thing. The singing is fun. Overall, I think this is a fun album that deserves its spot on the list. Maybe I need to re-listen to Electric Warrior to see if I like it even more now. 4/5.

Glam rock. Un 4.

Rock. No está mal. Me suenan.

Charismatic album from a band I've definitely overlooked previously. I like the range and am impressed that it was released in 1972. Instrument forward with interesting but smooth vocals. Great vibes!

T-Rex has always been this odd combination of genres for me. On one hand, they’re this no frills rock band with songs like “Bang a Gong,” a song based on old, reliable blues progressions that’s doesn’t break any new ground. On the other, they’re this in your face glam rock band that, I imagine, put on a hell of a show. That’s kind of where I think this album falls for me - right in the middle. It’s got both elements here, and they work pretty well together. I’ve always loved Marc Bolan’s vocals. I think he had the perfect voice for the sound of the band. But while this album does do its shtick well, I think it does it a little too well. It doesn’t reinvent anything, doesn’t push any boundaries or break any new ground. That’s alright, but I’m not convinced it needed to be here. I liked, and so it’ll get four stars (rounded from 3.5). But did it need to be? No. Did T-Rex have better material that could’ve been here? I assume so. Four stars (rounded from three and a half). Standout Tracks: Metal Guru, The Slider, Buick Mackane, Telegram Sam, Baby Strange, Ballrooms of Mars, Chariot Choogle

t. rex??? ahhhhhhhh scary! nah i'm just playing around. fun glam rock!

Super!

i guess i'm a T-Rex fan now. Loved it

I do like a bit of T Rex now and then. I wrote in my review of 'Electric Warrior' that Marc Bolan beat Bowie to being the early champion of glam rock and probably could have gone on to achieve a lot more if he hadn't died so young. 'The Slider' is another impressive performance, this time showcasing more of a heavy metal influence. It elevated T Rex well beyond their teen pop reputation and earned the praise of Johnny Marr, Gary Numan, and Guns and Roses, among others. I liked it but also went back to relisten to 'Electric Warrior', which in my opinion, is still the better album. But as a follow up to that masterpiece, 'The Slider' is a powerhouse of a record.

I often wonder what Marc Bolan would have done had he not died so young. Would he have embraced punk or post-punk? Would he have continued to chart his own unique path? Would he have become as big as Bowie? A tragic loss to music.

You’re a glitter-gaunt gangster, John Lennon knows your name.

I always forget how influencias was T.Rex in the 80s in Spain - This album is so familiar to me without being necessarily known

The best mix of Elton John, the Beatles, and the Smiths I’ve ever heard. Truly, how T. Rex manages to create pop hits reminiscent of Elton John using psychedelia and bizarre instrumentation is beyond me. I mean, this thing is pretty weird. “Telegram Sam”, “Rabbit Fighter”, “Ballrooms of Mars”, etc. Yeah this is definitely 70’s. But it’s just all so exciting and fun to listen to! Forgive me for a second, I listened to a hard rock album right before this and really needed something like this. Anyways, it’s just so full of good vibes and genuine creativity. It’s really good. But weird.

I liked this album better and better as it went along, just enough for 4 stars or B for a rating.

4.5/5 Great album. The sound seems way ahead of its time. At times, it sounded like it could've been an early 2000's alt rock album. Really enjoyed it. Missed out on the 5 star rating by a hair, in my opinion. Definitely will listen to it again.

Reminds me of being a kid..and Billy Elliot the film!

⭐⭐⭐⭐/5

Great Really great. The way the guitar solo comes in on Ballrooms of Mars, so good. Consistent. I assume they have an album even better than this based on some of their other singles. I'm happy with a mid range 4

Nice Glamrock Album

Appreciate the energy

Mostly enjoyable. Very T. Rex T. Rex album - although I wasn't already familiar with any of the tracks here, I could hear lots of similar elements to the biggest hits which I am familiar with (Get It On, 20th Century Boy, Children of the Revolution) Fave Tracks: Metal Guru, Chariot Choogle 3.6/5

Classic!

Another good album by T-Rex with many good tunes. I just feel much of his style is very similar and not to a great interest to me.

Each song I think a enjoyed alot and it started off very strong, it did start to drag and wander towards the end, but overall I think I enjoyed this

Bowien kaatajako... Noh.. Kelpohkoa ei sen puoleen...

I absolutely adore the voice and style of Marc Bolan. It takes not long to get into this album, because the first notes of Metal Guru are spot-on for me. The problem is it is a super strong opener and this T.Rex album does not keep the same leven for the rest of the songs. But it is one of the best glam rock albums!

A fun straight forward no nonsense rock and roll (glam rock) album. All the songs are cool and catchy hence the run time of nearly an hour doesn't feel tedious. There are some mellow chilled out innocent little songs like the opener Metal guru, Mystic Lady, Rock on and Spaceball Ricochet. There are rock and roll bangers as well like Buick Mackane, Chariot Choogle and Cadillac. Enjoyed it.

I am old ..T Rex's 20th century boy was the first single I ever bought as an 8 year old in 1973. My sister had the Metal Giru single and soon after I bought a 'hits' album of Marc Bolan & Trex. Since then I have never tired of their music. Marc was taken way too early and at the time was helping Punk and new wave bands by them appearing in his show in UK. This album is still fresh all the way through a solid 4 out of 5

DE GET IT ON GUY omg metal guru kenni glaub? riese bangger ich find d produktion so funny, iwie mega clean für 72 aber trz dreckig? mystic lady kinda cute aber jo rock on findi wieder absolut geil mite höche stimm über sini eigeni, tüfi baby boomerand und space ricochet sind iwie ähnlichi lieder? buick macane git chli meh gäse, seeehr geile schluss, hetmi chki an bowie erinnered OH SHIT ICH MUSS NA FERTIG LOSE ballrooms of mars uhuere weird aber sehr cool

himnos juveniles y canciones de medio tiempo imperecederas. Qué bueno era Marc bolan.

Du bon rock honnête comme on les aimes

7 / 10 Rock divertido y bien elaborado. Sin haber llegado a verlo, siempre se habla del Glamour de Marc Bolan como frontman del grupo.

I know of T.Rex but I wasn’t familiar with a single track from this record. This was new territory for me. Metal Guru was a great opener. I've never heard Guru pronounced that way but it works for this song. By the time I got to track 3 - Rock On - I realized this had potential to be a banger of an album. I was really digging it. And indeed, the remainder kept up to this high standard. I love finding these first-listen, 4-star records.

Super fun album! I enjoyed grooving along to it. It’s lively and made me happy to listen to.

Television man is crazy saying we're juvenile delinquent wrecks Oh, man, I need TV when I've got T.Rex.

It made my cleaning and packing time easier. Always helps to have classic sing-along tunes when you’re doing chores. Fun and boppy and probably benefits from him being very pretty and his not living long enough for his musical reputation to go stale!

Strange that I haven't dug into this band more than I have as I've liked everything I've heard and T. Rex is on 1001 artists' list of influences. In that regard, this sounds like a band without a roadmap — it seems to me Bolan was treading in unexplored waters. The songwriting is somehow simple while sounding profound, or important, or at least something you shouldn't pass up. There's a gritty sleaze to the whole affair, which is so much a part of the intrigue. There's a party going on, and I sure want to be there. In the end, I don't know that the material warrants a 5, but I'm on the bus to wherever they're going.

Yeah, I dug this. This is my first time listening to a full T.Rex album. It's fun, it's heavy. Cool melodies. Nice production. I dig his voice. Nice to hear songs other than the hits. (BTW, if you haven't checked out Tyrannosaurus Rex, his earlier folk band, they're fun, too.)

Clearly I need a LOT more T.Rex in my life.

Great album when I last listened in the 70’s

This is a great album from Robinson's the squash people

First song is really great although the rest is just good.

Glamor Rock

-BABY ROCK ON! -this is hard, yet chill music -great riffs -punk influences on this thing -like the album cover -cryptic lyrics -I feel like I need a few relistens -I feel like I like Side B more than Side A -didnt feel like 43 minutes, it felt more like 35 minutes -favourite songs: Metal Guru, Baby Boomerang, Buick Mackane (<3), Telegraph Sam, Rabbit Fighter (<3), Ballrooms of Mars, Main Man -least favourite song: Mystic Lady

I wasn't surprised to hear a glammy pop-rock album, but I was surprised that it was pretty freaking good.

interesting album. Would like to listen again to get a better idea on how much I like it, but could be 5 star in the future.

This is fucking good. I dunno why I never tried to listen to a full album until now.

This album is just fun. Bolan is so damned happy to be rocking and rolling -- and it comes through. Lot of really solid tunes here. You probably know Telegram Sam and Metal Guru. The rest of the album is supremely listenable. Is it the greatest thing ever set to vinyl? No, but it's a great crank on the porch in the summer album -- as it's supposed to be. Unexpected bangers: Buick Mackane, Baby Strange, Chariot Choogle

Not memorable but Extremely listenable, gotta check out other work

Aw man always love me some T Rex - not the best album but fun nonetheless

Super duper cool. bang a gong was all I knew about T. rex before. Turns out it’s like their lamest song.

This is the T. Rex that I remember. Fun quirky songs.

Some quality 70s glam rock on this one. The only T. Rex I've been exposed to so far is his big hit "Bang a Gong", "Teenage Dream" from the Scott Pilgrim soundtrack (great song), and two songs from a covers compilation that both happen to be on this album. Emily Haines from Metric and Father John Misty covered "Ballroom on Mars" and "Main Man" respectively. Not every song on this album is airtight, but it's a really good time.

Love me some glam rock!!

Overall I thought this was a pretty good album. For a band that I had never heard of before, their sound felt very familiar. Can definitely see how they were an influence to later acts. Obviously they were pivotal for pioneering the glam rock sound that would emergence later in this decade, but I could even hear how their influences stretched further than that. I mean Buick McCane felt straight up felt like a Black Keys track. Fav Tunes: Metal Guru Baby Boomerang Buick McCane

I didn't mind this at all. Which is a weird, because I've just come back to this album after skipping it, and I'm sure the first time I started to listen to it I gave up because I wasn't into it. I suppose it shows how much mood and situation can play in how you respond to an album. At the moment, I am listening to this rather than today's album which is Robbie Williams. I suppose anything would sound awesome rather than that. Anyway, this is firmly from the fuzz guitar, glam rock, era of T.Rex, rather than the early acoustic hippy-dippy stuff and I rather enjoyed it. I'd say it's better than average, so I don't want to give it a three star review, but at the same time giving it 4 seems to put it in the company of much better albums. It's probably a 3.5, or maybe a 4.1 but whatever this isn't an exact science is it?

A lot of catchy riffs here, elements of power/glam rock at play. Good stuff

Ég hef ekki mikið hlustað á T. Rex fyrir utan allra þekktustu lögin sem ég hef samt fílað þannig að það var bara gaman að gefa T. Rex smá pláss og uppgötva að þetta er bara fínasta stöff. Ég mun alveg hlusta á þetta aftur. Mjög gott barasta.

Очень стильно, космично и щепотка выебонов. прям легкая, для красоты алкоальбом: vinho verde

Awesome album! Buick Mackane the stand out for me.

A great album (but I like Electric Warrior more...!)

this slided mell

Metal guru, is it true?

Just a really good polished rock album. First time I’ve listened to TRex. Really enjoyed it.

This is how I like my glam rock. Short and to the point songs covered in a power pop glaze. I had never listened much to T. Rex outside of their hits like “Get it On”, but I really liked this album. There’s some sonic similarities with fellow contemporaries Ziggy Stardust and Roxy Music which is not a bad thing. I see now why T. Rex is cited as an influence for so many artists.

This record is a vibe and I enjoyed it very much. But I’m tired and don’t have energy to put more thought into a review. 3.75/5

Lol wow, back to back Levi's (See my review of The Ramones) Def a one trick pony. I am a sucker for that trick tho. I can't help feelin a little bad for Bolan, it's pretty clear he's a Howlin Wolf rippin' glam Bowie wannabe. I can't control my annual hankerings for Jeepster.

Was not familiar with this band whatsoever prior to listening. Was greeted with a very glam-rocky sound, akin to David Bowie, which I can enjoy. A few of the tracks felt like something I've heard before, but couldn't place my finger on them. No song really overstays its welcome and consists of some catchy & silly hooks/choruses too. Particularly memorable tracks included: "Metal Guru", "Rock On", "The Slider", and "Telegram Sam".

Some songs were cool.

The sound of each song didn't seem to vary much at first, but then it did and I was pleasantly surprised. 7/10

that was a fun palate cleanser could i write poetry to this? y

Gotta love Bolan

Any album with a song named "Chariot Choogle" gets a thumbs up from me.

Enjoyed this! I know the band vaguely and have heard a few songs, but never any albums. Quite enjoyed this one, and saved a number of the tracks to my library. Love the tonality and sounds of the album :)

Metal Guru is a personal favourite of mine, but the only other song on the album I’d listened to previously was Telegram Sam. I was a little disappointed that I didn’t enjoy any of it quite as much as Metal Guru, but there wasn’t a single track that I wanted to skip and the whole thing kept my interest until the end.

Very enjoyable. Will listen to more T.Rex. Didn't know any of their songs before, although I recognise a few now that I'm playing them. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Was really looking forward to listening to this. I love a bit of T Rex. Loved a couple of these songs ( metal Guru, baby boomerang, and rabbit fighter) Then there is my favourite T Rex song telegram Sam. What an absolute gem of a song. If there was another song as good as this on here, it probably would have been a 5 star review. Also, all the songs were all a sensible length

Kicking off with Metal Guru straight away is a bold way to start an album and I liked it! Just a fun T. Rex album, I listened to them loads years ago and revisiting is really fun. Should listen to them more really.

If their last album was the tipping point into a new genre, this is them assuming command. This is great 70s glam.

It was an easy listen! Reminded me of school of rock.

Always avoided T. Rex for some reason, I think I assumed it would be a bit pompus, but this is great. Reminded me of the glam era of Bowie, if a bit rockier. Some of the solos can go a bit OTT for me, but thats glam rock on a whole isnt it?! Way better than expected, flew by, strangely I’m not too sure how fast Ill be returning. I think I need to be in the mood for this. Either way, cracking. 4.5

It's like a bunch of rock and pop artists came together to make an interesting sort of fusion alternative rock. Pretty solid all around

This record sounds like 1972 and thats cool. Not bad. Not great.

this thing is filled with short but great songs. The first run of six is unreal, as is the closer

Got a bit of the Beatles in here, I felt like this guy was a precursor to Billy Corgan

Nice but not my style

As a kid in the US, the classic rock stations only played Get It On typically. I didn't dip my toe into T.Rex much beyond that. In the age of streaming, there's a much lower barrier to entry to try out new music, and I'm glad I did. On the first listen of this one, I really like it. Hearing the T.Rex DNA from Get It On in an album context was intriguing.

Day8 - not my favorite t. rex album

A fun time

Fun vibes. Good vinyl to put on. Electric Warrior is way better though.

Not as good as Electric Warrior

T. Rex are glam rock gods. Metal Guru is one of my favorites of the genre & it's rumored that Morrissey was so taken with the tune, he was inspired to write The Smiths song Panic. The rest of the album is top notch rock.

Have gained new appreciation for T Rex in the last year.

Another knew-to-me find from this project. Knew of the band but not the music. Really fun groove.

Rock. No está mal. Me suenan.

I enjoyed this one but preferred the first half of the record to the second. Regardless, I liked the energy of all the songs even if I didn't love the vocals.

I enjoyed it. Catchy songs with high replayability: Rock On (favorite) Buick McCane Telegram Sam Chariot Choogle Main Man

Marc Bolan is awesome.

Good T. rex. Ballrooms of mars is great

goody good

I liked quite a lot of the songs, although I feel like some of the songs are too slow. The drummer quite audibly speeds up in quite a few of them and I feel like he's finding it hard to play so slow

This was considerably better than the earlier T Rex album I had in The Project. It felt far more Bowie influenced and a little less of the Glitter-esque stomp yer feet and jumpsuits end of Glam. Baby Boomerang is a cracking song, and this is definitely an album I'll come back to repeatedly.

Bang a gong, get it on. 4 stars.

i knew i would like some of the songs as i already have like 2/3 somewhere in my playlists, i just didn’t know id like the whole album. really cool and chill and i will go and probably listen to all the rest of them at some point too. made me want to watch the film slackers again, which i will this weekend. and take some photos with my camera too, so overall? really good!

Yeah like this one. My kinda music. Still sounds relevant today

4.5 could be weirder. Wish it were weirder. I like when it’s weird.

The world was robbed of a great musician.

Such a great classic rock album!

Oh man …

Son toujours très cool. Pas au niveau de T-rex warrior, mais très bon. "Metal Guru", "Telegram Sam"...

One of my earliest albums. Some classics but does sound dated now

Another great album from the glam era Not as good as Electric Warrior IMO, but it’s still a highlight of Bolan’s very influential career Favourite tracks: Metal Guru, Rock On, The Slider, Telegram Sam, Main Man

A little bit sleazy and a lot of fun. My thing with glam rock is weird bc I'm honestly not even much a fan of the visual style, which I know was a big piece of the appeal at the time. I guess I feel like they were carrying forward the legacy of 60s pop moreso than the other "new" genres of the 70s: lots of attention to melody, simplicity, immediacy. Anyway it's good. Catchy songs, good guitars. Best song: Rock On

Alfa glam and guitar. Metal Guru, The Slider, Telegram Sam.

Love T.Rex, this isn’t an album Iv given as much time as EW, so really enjoyed it today, added into my regular rotation. One of glams rocks best.

Very good but same as the one I know

It hasn't got any of his most famous tracks on it, but it's still a very solid album.

I've never listened to a T Rex album and had no idea he made so many - 12 in total. This is a great album, full of tunes and sound and attitude and a real find.

So fun listening to a band that influenced everyone from New York Dolls and The Smiths through Poison and even The Darkness. Ballrooms of Mars is straight David Bowie.

listened

Jag har lyssnat på det här albumet förut tror jag. Jag gillar det ändå. Har lyssnat mest på Ballrooms Of Mars tidigare och den är fortfarande fantastisk <3

Nice med det utrop marc bolab

Very good. Was ready for it to end by the last few tracks.

Liked the Rabbit song and liked the whole thing enough to listen to it 3 times.

this album is tight and rocks hard. the previous t-rex on this list was a little more like run of the mill music from this era. this album, however, did some more adventurous things. it doesnt rely only on blues heavy riffs (though they are present). furious and fast paced. big body guitar. fuzzzzzzz. yehaaawww.

Thorough bit of 'enjoyness'

Why don’t I listen to T Rex more often?

3.5+/5

Album 19 of 1001 T. Rex - The Slider Favorite Track : Main Man Rating : 4 / 5 This is a fine album. Not a terrible song in the bunch. Can't say that it rocked my world, but it is certainly one I'll give another listen to. Good representation of glam rock. Recommend.

This album was a vibe, that I feel started dwindle down around the back half. Solid 70s rock overall

Really fun listen, as glam rock should be. I look forward to the next one of these.

Solid glam rock. Love it! And has got Metal Guru on it

fuck yes omg

It was the biggest surprise album yet. Really well put together. I liked almost all the songs, and would listen again.

Before today, the only song I really knew by T. Rex was Bang A Gong (Get It On). So starting out, I know that T. Rex are a glam rock/psychedelic rock band, and that is about it. I knew absolutely nothing about this album. There are a lot of similarities between T. Rex and bands of the era such as New York Dolls, and David Bowie. Some songs on this record featured sludgy guitars and a more rock oriented vibe, others were slower rock ballads. T. Rex's musical themes were mostly nonsensical, typical of psychedelic rock of that time. Overall, a fairly good album. I really enjoy Marc Bolan's voice. I will add a few of these songs to my regular rotation for sure. Favorite songs: Telegram Sam, Baby Boomerang, Buick McCane, The Slider, Rock On, Mystic Lady, Metal Guru, Chariot Choogle Least favorite songs: Rabbit Fighter, Spaceball Ricochet, Main Man 4/5

Very obvious influences on later music in this album, T. Rex shows a lot chaos in their music in a way that comes together nicely.

This makes me think that this is what David Bowie might sound like if he made music I enjoyed.

3.75/5 I really liked this for some reason. Maybe it's because I was expecting it to be off key screamy punk and it ended up being rather pleasing on key singing and nice rock and roll. I don't know I enjoyed this one.

I've heard of T. Rex but never really listened to them. Really liked this album. Great opening track ('Metal Guru'). Also liked 'Rock On', 'Telegram Sam', 'Rabbit Fighter'. Very catchy songs. 4/5

Brilliant then. Sounds a bit dated now..

Damn. What a leap from "Electric Warrior".

Pretty decent alt rock album Mellow & easy to listen to

Glam rock greatness

Nice album, easy listening no huge standouts imo Saved tracks: Metal Guru, Rock On, Telegram Sam, Rabbit Fighter, Main Man

I've always been a bit fascinated by Marc Bolan, one of the worlds great talents and rockstars. Always having a great time, always experimenting and reinventing himself, never taking himself too seriously and casually staring a movment that would take over the world. Everyone and their mother has been inspired by Bolan, directly or indirectly. Despite this and despite being very very familiar with his fuzzy Les Paul guitar tone I don't actually think I've ever listened front to back to a T. Rex album before. Strangley though it feels familiar and exactly like it should. This is a very very fun album, chaotic, messy and utterly brilliant. Metal Guru which I was of course already familiar with is a great opener of course and then Bolan goes 'did you like that? do you want more of it?' and then delivers on that promise without it ever starting to feel old or less entertaining. My favourite part was the run of songs from Baby Boomerand through to Buick Mackane sandwiching the incredibly well titled Spaceball Ricochet. I don't think T. Rex are going to become my favourite band of all time but I'll probably break it out every once in a while.

Similar sounds by songs but they were all good

Very enjoyable collection of weird songs that chug along like a groovy train

It's no Electric Warrior, but a good album nevertheless. All of the songs are fine and T.Rex jams thorough it. Gets a bit monotonous after a while, however.

Fun album. I like it as a back ground when having friends home. It sounds like a loose party.

T.Rex knows how to make an infectious tune. Love the guitar tone here too. They had a big impact on a lot of music I love and for good reason.

Well, that was a lot of fun. A bit more scattered than I usually prefer in an album but, somehow, they managed to hold on to a through-line of sorts that made the whole thing still seem (mostly) cohesive. I loved the energy, the attitude, and the musicality. Just a fun listen.

Sublime Glam Rock, enough said. My absolute favourite songs from this album include Metal Guru, The Slider and Telegram Sam.

Slinky.

I liked it. I wanted to love it, but it slipped into the background too often. Best track: Metal Guru

Really different from what I expected. Fun & weird.

This album was fighting an uphill battle against my grumpiness, and it actually won. I really enjoyed the weirdness of the songs because the weirdness is balanced by convincing instrumentation and musicianship

Wel tof, vooral de iets hardere nummers

I’ve got a soft spot for T.Rex based on the handful of songs I’ve heard, though none of them are on this album. No matter, the sound that I like is still in tact: melodic and pretty and spacey but also loud ‘n’ raucous and full of riffs. A Children of the Revolution calibre anthem would really complete it (Buick Mackane lays down the prototype but clearly isn’t as good), but I found every track on here very listenable. Very listenable indeed.

Marc Bolan has such a distinctive sound, both vocally and with his guitar, that he always manages to sound louche and sleazy. This is a good thing.

Good tunes.

Good stuff

Poppy Rocky Quirky Goodness

Banger

Another 'meh' album, not so good, not bad, it isn't boring but some songs just are the same. Some songs are entertaining but not all the album, the full album is more like something, again, I would listen to while doing other things.

This feels like some sorta classic/stoner rock type stuff. Standouts to me: Buick MacClane, definitely stonery rock, but nice integration of the cello/stringed instrument. Ballrooms of Mars, this was interesting, had a fun experimental vibe without being obnoxious or annoying. Main Man, the vocal mixing of the chorus on this track are so trippy. I love it. This was 100x better than Electric Warrior.

Another genesis of so many wonderful sounds.

I love this album SO MUCH. I’m so between a 4 and 5 but I feel I can’t give it a 5 because it isn’t electric warrior? 4.5 for this one

Gran album, con temas para sonorizar viajes y grandes tardes

I am very familiar with Electric Warrior but didn't find much of The Slide all that familiar, but it hits the same notes as Electric Warrior. Killer glam rock album, Marc Bolan rules.

Pleasantly surprised

nice album

I always liked this more than Electric Wizard, that had the biggest hit and better album cover. I listened to this first because I heard GnR cover Buick Mackane. Catchy glam rock, hooks and dreamy layers

Nice album to listen, but I won’t buy him..

Hard to believe this album is from 72’ . Obviously influenced modern acts, Probably some that don’t even realize it.

Liked this, but not mind-blowing. Definitely would relisten. Good classic rock vibes without the depth of knowledge of the songs for me to color them now. I guess I knew one of their songs (not on this album) - "Bang a Gong (Get It On)" but otherwise, seems entirely new to me.

This album is packed with classics

My first listen through an entire T.Rex album. tons of fun! The good songs on this album are just so good. Metal Guru, Buick Mackane, Telegram Sam, Baby Strange.

T. Rex is always an interesting listen. I feel like I should be into Marc Bolan more than I am...but overall I felt this was the best of his work I have heard. 3.5/5

marc bolan knows what he’s doing tbf, lots of bangers. felt like driving to vegas with the roof down half the time 8/10

Nice fun album.

有点难接受的风格
