Classic but repetition of ideas and motifs throughout
Nice '80s vibes with darker alternative feel. Some tracks, especially opening track make me think of Mike Oldfield. Really like this album sonically as well. Listened to the remastered version so not sure how faithful it is to the original, but really nicely produced.
Great vibes from the '60s and '70s. I kind of thought this had an American sound to it for an English band, as weird of an idea that might be... Perhaps it's just a sound of the time rather than sound of a nation but influence could come into it.
Lots of interesting instrumentation and arrangements across the whole album. Lyrics are often gentle and abstract which is nice... There are a couple of songs, especially the last one where lyrics get a bit direct and heavy (like Closer by Nine Inch Nails) so I wouldn't be surprised if there's weirder stuff made abstract in other lyrics.
A very long album at ~24 tracks (some are short though).
Really nice jazz / orchestral
Very heavy and moody. Well put together with a lot of elements to keep the listener on the edge of their seat. I can hear how this was a very important early grunge album, especially given its time.
Great album with details to listen to everywhere. Guitar heavy and reminiscent of some Zappa stuff musically
Definitely a classic but with lyrics that won't age well?
Awesome album. A few tracks I recognise but never knew the name of, especially the last song. Will listen again.
Classic frog. Recognised a few tracks
Nice album... Something my old guitar teacher would have probably liked. Interesting sonically as well
Damn good emo / grunge album. Think I've heard of the band before but feel like I missed out not hearing this album until now
Great downtempo album. Very reminiscent of the time for me.
Some tracks don't progress very much but the theme behind the album might be the reason.
Product of its time - nostalgic
Amazing soft bluesy rock kind of album
I suppose early emo kind of stuff, so impressive for that
Now I can appreciate why this is a classic
Makes me think of a more modern Nick Drake, or Nick Drake / Gotye hybrid
The rap is dated, lyrics are really dated. Some tracks are good musically. I like the skit format usually but these seems a little try hard and fake but I should do my research
There's good stuff here, particularly instrumentally. Some lyrics are interesting but this feels like an anthem for boomers with only just above average music taste. Maybe earlier stuff was better.
Would be a 4 if it weren't Kanye West, credit for most of it should go to the songwriters
Must have been damn ahead of its time
Okay, this is actually a really good album. If this came before that Yeezus album then this one went to his head and he thought he could take the piss
Highlights their average less. I should listen to their first 3-4 albums because they apparently were innovative, but this shouldn't be on this list
The stuff that made your nan swoon. Pretty basic but had an interesting scat part towards end of album
A few decent songs but Jesus Christ
Musically, it's brilliant, but I find the lyrics really superficial yet they're given an over-confident delivery which I just feel is totally mismatched. Would be 5 stars for me if either the lyrics or vocals were better, would be 2 stars without the good music behind it
Objectively good but not really my kind of thing
A bit of a whopper but very good
There was a good guitar solo somewhere I'm confident was a guest player because it was too good
Nice surprise to find out Mike Patton is the vocalist. Was stuck between a 4 and 5 but leans more 5 for me for top-class vocals and instrumentalists
Now I get what people meant
Sounds very experimental. Will have to look into this artist /album as I'm sure it's creative in its use of technology, but it lacks in musicality. Would be 2 if I didn't suspect a lot of work went into it.
Some repetitive instrumentation throughout album and from other albums of his. He was probably mainly responsible for vocals but still considering it as whole piece
Was working while listening so a bit distracted but didn't stand out but was nice enough
Might have to listen again and reconsider rating
Vocals not quite my thing but overall very good
Gold from the start! Instant buy
Okay, this was actually good. Maybe I just don't like what sounds like his newer stuff
Good album, probably very forward for it's time. Very good and creative vocals but I still find them a bit grating
A definite Paolo Nutini influence
Banger, especially the first song
Maybe a 4 but going 3 for now
Something between a 3 and 4 for me as it leans on a couple of singles but doesn't strike me much otherwise
Not quite my bag at points, but can appreciate how good it is
Good but does lean on its singles
Wow - musical, haunting, catchy. Maybe I's realign some of my other ratings if I could but, since I can't, I'd give this 6 stars
