Popular Reviews

The La's by The La's

Awesome - classic

I'm Your Man by Leonard Cohen

A few decent songs but Jesus Christ

The Real Thing by Faith No More

Nice surprise to find out Mike Patton is the vocalist. Was stuck between a 4 and 5 but leans more 5 for me for top-class vocals and instrumentalists

London Calling by The Clash
Oct 02 2023

Classic but repetition of ideas and motifs throughout

Peter Gabriel 3 by Peter Gabriel
Oct 03 2023

Nice '80s vibes with darker alternative feel. Some tracks, especially opening track make me think of Mike Oldfield. Really like this album sonically as well. Listened to the remastered version so not sure how faithful it is to the original, but really nicely produced.

Tommy by The Who
Oct 04 2023

Great vibes from the '60s and '70s. I kind of thought this had an American sound to it for an English band, as weird of an idea that might be... Perhaps it's just a sound of the time rather than sound of a nation but influence could come into it. Lots of interesting instrumentation and arrangements across the whole album. Lyrics are often gentle and abstract which is nice... There are a couple of songs, especially the last one where lyrics get a bit direct and heavy (like Closer by Nine Inch Nails) so I wouldn't be surprised if there's weirder stuff made abstract in other lyrics. A very long album at ~24 tracks (some are short though).

Doolittle by Pixies
Oct 06 2023

Very heavy and moody. Well put together with a lot of elements to keep the listener on the edge of their seat. I can hear how this was a very important early grunge album, especially given its time.

Can't Buy A Thrill by Steely Dan
Oct 09 2023

Great album with details to listen to everywhere. Guitar heavy and reminiscent of some Zappa stuff musically

The Slim Shady LP by Eminem
Oct 13 2023

Definitely a classic but with lyrics that won't age well?

The Stone Roses by The Stone Roses
Oct 16 2023

Awesome album. A few tracks I recognise but never knew the name of, especially the last song. Will listen again.

Moving Pictures by Rush
Oct 17 2023

Classic frog. Recognised a few tracks

Happy Trails by Quicksilver Messenger Service
Oct 18 2023

Nice album... Something my old guitar teacher would have probably liked. Interesting sonically as well

Bubble And Scrape by Sebadoh
Oct 19 2023

Damn good emo / grunge album. Think I've heard of the band before but feel like I missed out not hearing this album until now

Beyond Skin by Nitin Sawhney
Oct 20 2023

Great downtempo album. Very reminiscent of the time for me. Some tracks don't progress very much but the theme behind the album might be the reason.

Night Life by Ray Price
Oct 25 2023

Amazing soft bluesy rock kind of album

The La's by The La's
Nov 03 2023

Awesome - classic

Seventeen Seconds by The Cure
Nov 09 2023

I suppose early emo kind of stuff, so impressive for that

Abbey Road by Beatles
Nov 15 2023

Now I can appreciate why this is a classic

Sea Change by Beck
Nov 16 2023

Makes me think of a more modern Nick Drake, or Nick Drake / Gotye hybrid

Ready To Die by The Notorious B.I.G.
Nov 17 2023

The rap is dated, lyrics are really dated. Some tracks are good musically. I like the skit format usually but these seems a little try hard and fake but I should do my research

Kid A by Radiohead
Nov 28 2023
Guero by Beck
Dec 04 2023
Bad by Michael Jackson
Dec 05 2023
Abattoir Blues / The Lyre of Orpheus by Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds
Dec 12 2023

There's good stuff here, particularly instrumentally. Some lyrics are interesting but this feels like an anthem for boomers with only just above average music taste. Maybe earlier stuff was better.

Smash by The Offspring
Dec 19 2023
Heroes by David Bowie
Dec 25 2023
Yeezus by Kanye West
Jan 04 2024

Would be a 4 if it weren't Kanye West, credit for most of it should go to the songwriters

Deja Vu by Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young
May 01 2024
The College Dropout by Kanye West
May 02 2024

Okay, this is actually a really good album. If this came before that Yeezus album then this one went to his head and he thought he could take the piss

S&M by Metallica
May 03 2024

Highlights their average less. I should listen to their first 3-4 albums because they apparently were innovative, but this shouldn't be on this list

Green by R.E.M.
May 08 2024
Tusk by Fleetwood Mac
May 15 2024
Scott 4 by Scott Walker
May 16 2024

The stuff that made your nan swoon. Pretty basic but had an interesting scat part towards end of album

I'm Your Man by Leonard Cohen
May 24 2024

A few decent songs but Jesus Christ

The Infotainment Scan by The Fall
Jun 27 2024

Musically, it's brilliant, but I find the lyrics really superficial yet they're given an over-confident delivery which I just feel is totally mismatched. Would be 5 stars for me if either the lyrics or vocals were better, would be 2 stars without the good music behind it

Ramones by Ramones
Oct 01 2024

Now I get what people meant

Ghosteen by Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds
Oct 03 2024

Nice synths

Oct 10 2024

Sounds very experimental. Will have to look into this artist /album as I'm sure it's creative in its use of technology, but it lacks in musicality. Would be 2 if I didn't suspect a lot of work went into it.

Rio by Duran Duran
Oct 14 2024
The Wildest! by Louis Prima
Oct 29 2024

Some repetitive instrumentation throughout album and from other albums of his. He was probably mainly responsible for vocals but still considering it as whole piece

Vauxhall And I by Morrissey
Jan 15 2025

Was working while listening so a bit distracted but didn't stand out but was nice enough

Elephant by The White Stripes
Jan 20 2025

Arular by M.I.A.
Oct 31 2025
Murmur by R.E.M.
Nov 04 2025
Treasure by Cocteau Twins
Nov 05 2025

Wow - musical, haunting, catchy. Maybe I's realign some of my other ratings if I could but, since I can't, I'd give this 6 stars

Zombie by Fela Kuti
Nov 18 2025
Time Out Of Mind by Bob Dylan
Nov 28 2025

Was growing a bit weary of his music, especially since I feel he's disproportionately represented on this list (too much). However, this album's great!

Damaged by Black Flag
Jan 07 2026
Jan 14 2026

This was probably very experimental and cutting edge at the time, but I can't appreciate it so much. Might have to revisit and read some backstory

Vulnicura by Björk
Jan 26 2026

Good but now I need to sit in a dark room

Haunted Dancehall by The Sabres Of Paradise

69 Love Songs by The Magnetic Fields
Feb 13 2026

Wow. Incredible. Really nice album (or whatever you would call this at 69 short songs long). Also, 69 is a choice

1977 by Ash
Mar 02 2026

Was between a 4 and a 5. Going for 4 because I think the extra point is for nostalgia vibes. Also not a 5 because there's 5 minutes of them throwing up at the end and I wasn't in a good mood as it was

Time Out by The Dave Brubeck Quartet
Mar 09 2026
Duck Stab/Buster & Glen by The Residents
Mar 16 2026

Must have been groundbreaking at the time, so 4 stars, but would be 3 or less for me if released now

Shaft by Isaac Hayes
Mar 17 2026
Dirty by Sonic Youth
Mar 18 2026
Want One by Rufus Wainwright
Mar 20 2026

There is virtually nothing musical or enjoyable about this. I read the brief... I don't care when it was released, and I don't care that it's supposedly a reference to other genres. This is people spending years learning how to prepare fine cuisine and then purposely giving everyone food poisoning. Maybe that's the point with its supposed punk references, but you just know they were enjoying sniffing their own farts when they made this. 2 stars instead of 1 for the sake of the people not playing brass.
