Reviews (page 4 of 8)

I actually like this quite a bit. Maybe not my most favorite of albums, but solid.

I recognize a couple tracks by title, but have never listened to this album start-to-finish. I guess I'm pleased that this system made me sit down and listen to this album. But it's just okay... good not great.

ronk and roll, sure. i know very little about rod stewart but this seems fine.

Another British band covers Black American Blues but not quite as well as some other British bands. This is fine and the keyboard and Ron Woods guitar stands out, but otherwise not much beyond the hits here.

I liked this but it went downhill throughout the listen. Still a solid 3!!!

This is the first time that I have heard this record. It shows the Faces adjusting to the aesthetic conventions developing during the 1970's fairly well. It' hard not to hear some of the parallels with the Stones at the time. Both groups moving out of 60's by adopting a much more roots rock orientation. This really is a very 'American' sounding album, creating an almost country tinged hard rock aesthetic. Also, a fairly interesting take on Chuck Berry's "Memphis." It is an aesthetic that Rod Stewart works well within and this is a pretty solid album.

This is the only time you’ll catch me listening to Rod Stewart. The songs I prefer are the ones he’s not doing vocals. Still a great band and some jams for sure.

Kinda reminded me of a proto-stereophonics

Weirdly enjoyable. Much more than I expected.

Visst.

Decent to good rock. 3/5

I though I would like this more than I did.

Solid 70s rock/pop sound. Didn't hate it. Probably won't seek them out though

I like this album. You might even be able to say that I like it a lot. But for a band I'd never heard of before, all of the songs sound way too familiar. Maybe that's because I've heard some of them before. Maybe it's because it sounds like a lot of other bands from the ear. 3.5 rounded down Edit: OH, it's because it's fucking Rod Stewart singing lol...whatever, I'm keeping the score the same

once again, the author has tricked me into listening to Rod Stewart again!! i need a god damn warning label or something at this point i will give this a go of course, but i really haven't liked any of the albums Rod has been in so far. this will be my 3rd i believe... probably won't be the last but god i hope so Miss Judy's Farm - 3/5 You're So Rude - 2/5 Love Lives Here - 4/5 Last Orders Please - 3/5 Stay With Me - 5/5 Debris - 2/5 Memphis - 2/5 Too Bad - 3/5 That's All You Need - 3/5 Average score: 3/5 ⭐️⭐️⭐️ there were actually a couple songs i liked for once. still pretty mediocre overall though

Tällaista yhdysvaltaista rautalanka rokkia. Mukavaa Memfis meininkiä

pretty decent rock 'n roll album. can't help of think of the rod stomach pump rumor tho. lmao.

Pretty cool. Might be as cool as The Rolling Stones - Rod Stewart definitely had the better voice

Decent 70s rock (Rod Stewart)

I do not like Rod Stewart, at all, but I didn't hate this album like I expected to. It wasn't great, but I liked it better than I expected. However, at no point in the album did it ever feel like it should have made a 1001 album list. It's inclusion feels very unnecessary.

A tight tracklist of blues rock. Really solid. 3.25/5.

3/5 https://rateyourmusic.com/release/album/faces/a-nod-is-as-good-as-a-wink-to-a-blind-horse/ Fine, but nothing really stuck. The two voices alternating between the songs is nice, but also makes the album feel less coherent.

Faces, ey? Never heard of them, let's take a listen... Cool blues guitar riff... Hang on, that's Rod Stewart! Its fun. They sound fun. They sound like they're having fun. But nothing says dad rock like Englishmen singing the blues.

Sounds very much like Ronnie Wood's audition tape for the Rolling Stones, even though he didn't join the Stones until 1975. Putting a Ronnie Lane sung track in the middle of 2 Rod Stewart tracks was a mistake. I don't know why Rod didn't front the whole album, but I guess he had other things on his mind. Not bad.

It sounds exactly what you'd think 1971 sounds like

Not bad at all but at the same time it sounds really replaceable. A bit too middle-of-the-road.

The faces as a band were better than this rating suggests, they just weren’t reflected well through their album output. I really like several of these songs but they’re weaker in this context, but come alive for me on the five guys walk into a bar box set, which sadly didn’t make it to the streaming era.

It was fine. Rod Stewart's voice carries it for me.

Some good songs on here. Stewart's voice is unique. Overall it is a decent album. 3/5 Might listen again

Sung and performed well but the material rarely rises above anything but average 3*

Felt very raw and nostalgic.

Hood record, lively and energetic. A moment plastered in time with groovy sounds. Very nice

i like some of the songs, but it's mostly just classic rock which is okay in my eyes

nice but a bit old fashioned

Forgot this was Rod Stewart until I started listening to it. Not bad

how i dream of being the pump that had to extract all of that semen out of Rod Stewart's stomach

I honestly didn't know that Rod Stewart was in a band - it caught me off guard to hear his voice! This was an alright album. It didn't really stick out to me in any particular way.

British 70s rock. Bluesy. Rod Stewarts band.

Shout out Rod Stewart

divertido un toque me gusto pero meh

A very solid and capable 70s rock album. I get kind of tired of Rod Stewart but he does have some pipes.

Pretty cut and dry blues rock following closely behind the Beatles, Zeppelin and CCR. It's pretty difficult for me to look at this in a more favorable light than "it's decent" aside from the house that is Stay With Me. Something about this particular brand of rock feels positioned for easy listening and radio play to me, and my ears have completely gone numb by the end. It's like they tried to slide into the gap the Beatles left behind when they began going more psychedelic, but stopped before they reached something unique.

Not bad, but a little more roots rock than is too my personal taste

"These guys are just a bunch of boozy, lazy, carpetbagging scumbags who brag about using and abusing women and then expect us to feel bad for them when they're inevitably lonely. They're not clever, they're not lyrically meaningful, they're not any different from a million other second-rate British acts of the time. How are they getting away with it?" *Ronnie Wood plays opening riff of "Stay with Me"* "Nevermind, I see how they're getting away with it."

Sounds like rip off AcDc

Lo escuché apenas me levante

Great blues sound, Rod Stewart has an iconic voice, and Stay With Me is an all-timer, but ultimately I am not sure whether this is really an essential album for the 1001.

I like it

Some is great. Some feels very “generic rock” of the time. Rod Stewart’s voice soars. “Stay with me” is a forever bop!

Didn't know Rod Stewart was in a band! This was signature sweet but sexy.

Ah a little rod stewart and Ronnie wood. Fun fact Ronnie woods son is married to Steve Harris’ (Iron Maiden) daughter. Cool rock record.

I really wanted to like this more than I did. Some really great guitar. Can't figure out why I don't want to give this more than a 3.

Enjoyable. May need to re-listen to the album. Never heard of this band before.

Debris is great.

Another early 70s brit album that is stuffing influences from people with more melanin into one rock album. It's not bad though, reminds me of early Rolling Stones.

Good album! Not great but not terrible

I liked them better when they were small.

I always enjoy the Faces.

Never heard of them, took way too long to realize Rod Stewart was involved. Not bad

Thanks to 1001 albums I've heard a lot more Rod Stewart than I would have guessed. To that note, I was curious why there were two singers on this album. Debris is a good song but I don't love the other singer. Favorite songs: Memphis, Stay with Me

🤷‍♂️

Not a bad album a few good songs I like off it but can get a bit repetitive!

Bastante bien, no fue wow. 6/10

Solid blues rock, and great performances from Rod Stewart—"Stay with Me" hits. I've listened to it before, and while I like it, nothing blows me away. But still, seems like a great record to have on vinyl for a poker night.

Some good songs on this, and I've like some others, but mostly I dislike Stewart's voice.

The album name is the most interesting part of this album

wots all this then

Fun but nothing memorable, probably won’t return to it

Fav- miss Judy’s farm 3/5

Hey this guy sounds like Rod Stewart...oh it is Rod Stewart. So is that why this album was included? We continue the long list of albums with white British dudes from the 70's that aren't bad but took up space from something new, different, or just not a white dude.

This sounds way more like American southern rock than British rock. Regardless, it was fine. They're obviously talented musicians and it had some good rockin' jams, plus Stay With Me is a fun hit, but overall it just didn't hit me in any feels.

Like a watered down blues album. Not enough soul. It’s a fine country-rock album. Not going to stay with me, but not bad

I actually liked Lane’s vocals over Rod Stewart’s on this album. Also Wood’s guitar work.

decent

Normally I'd be pretty annoyed by being forced to listen to Rod Stewart (besides the track "Do Ya Think I'm Sexy" of course). But, then that keyboard started up at first track and I got distracted by how actually good this album is... But let's not get ahead of ourselves, it was the first track, and the second one is extremely lackluster, and then the album started going downhill quickly from there with the occasional decent moment. How the heck does Rod Stewart sound so old and destroyed at such an early time in his career? I'll be nice and give it 3 Stars

turned into bg noise but in a good, chill way.

Never heard of faces before. Classic rock and roll feel but nothing that necessarily stands out or would make this a favourite. It would be enjoyable blended into a nice 70s mix

good stuff

nothing special, but nothing bad about it either. overall it is fine

Pretty cool, did not know Rod Stewart was in a group before going solo

3+/5 Du bon rock !

Was ok

While I thought this was good, I found that none of the songs really stood out to me. Still, it's a good half hour of some bluesy rock and maybe I'll discover something different on another listen through.

Not a huge fan of Rod Stuart, but I really liked this group. The music was great. Amazing guitar and electric organ. Questionable lyrics sometimes though.

Zone out a fair bit. It's aight

Nice background music

Liked it enough

Standard.

I’ve had Rod Stewart, Small Faces, and Faces albums all in the past 2 weeks. And this is still just some decent, loose feelin rock music.

Either I'm starting to lose it, or this list is just 50% the most bog-standard 70s rock music. This is inoffensive but just like the previous 5 albums I've gotten, definitely not something I feel that I *HAD* to listen to before I die.

Honestly that title is fantastic. Favorite track: Too Bad

Stay With Me was obviously the hit bit the rest of this seemed pretty average. Not a huge fan of Stewart's Voice.

Rod! He wrote a really great autobiography. Why? There was no wallowing. It was all, "I'm a rockstar...this is amazing." So I always have time for Rod Stewart. 3/5

Rod Stewart is in this band? interesting. It was a fine album. It seems that the Robinson brothers of The Black Crowes had to get some inspiration from this group, especially from "Miss Judy's Farm"

This album is middle of the road for me. I didn’t really like or dislike it. It just played on as unremarkable background noise. 2.5 / 5

Not the worst rock album we have had, but not the best

I enjoyed this album! I think someone said it already, but this is just solid middle of the road rock. Not trying to blow you away with their musical prowess or trying too hard. Just making good solid songs. 3.50 for me.

This album has a lot of nice instrumental grooves. It's not super adventurous but it does what it knows very well. It's fun and easy to listen to. I like it enough. I largely like the instrumental sections better than the vocal sections. I feel like the vocal isn't mixed very harmoniously with the backing track on every song. Some good highs on this record, but a lot of mid to round it out. 3.1/5

Glad I listened to this one. But, rather dated.

I hadn’t thought I had heard any of the songs from this album and then Stay with Me. It came on and I was humming along. same thing with Memphis, though I wasn’t as familiar with this version. This is a fun classic rock album was historical roots leading to The Who, Stones and, of course, Rod Stewart, who before his flamboyant pop rock crooning made his notorious was a road-tested rock star. The entire album was a fun showcase of English talent, and always interesting seeing how they interpreted American musical trends, like the slide guitar on That’s All. Key song—though all were good—was You’re so Rude. I could definitely listen to this again.

Random thoughts: * This was a brisk listen. I listened to this one twice. * Are Faces a bit underrated? This is some good solid rock n roll. * Stay With Me is so good but I would never name drop this song as a classic. * Fun listen that I’ll definitely revisit.

Normally, a Rod Stewart track and his voice makes me die inside a little. This was far more pleasant than expected. Good length, good swinging tempos

I can’t really say I loved this musically. I’m just not very roused by this flavour of bluesy classic rock. But I definitely do like to listen to Rod Stewart sing a little song, which is something I didn’t know about myself before I picked up this list. 2.5, rounding up for one of the best album titles that’s come up yet.

Surprisingly good guitar, at some moments even nicely heavy, quite good bass..but that 70s-style keyboards-piano-organ, oh boy do I despise that sound..and I’ve never been a fan of Rod Stewart’s voice

I’d never heard of Faces. I had no idea that Rod Stewart was in this band. I recognize a couple songs. Glad I listened to it. Probably will file this into the glad I listened to it files.

3.5 i like them better when they were the small faces

I really like Rod Stewarts vocals, but otherwise a little average to me

Not exactly my style but I appreciate it

Fun listen, fun album title. High 3

His voice is really unique and fun but also when he sings it sounds painful I hope he’s okay <3

Honestly had some pretty great songs but some I thought were very mid too

Always feel like I should like the Faces more than I do given a love of the Small Faces and their general bluesy looseness seemingly ticking a lot of boxes for me. This is as close as I get, a handful of cracking tunes, a decent cover, but also too much plodding.

It's a fairly standard blues album that seems to do everything right, but not particularly special apart from Rod Stewart. Though I love Rod Stewart's voice, it is a lot better than it really should be. The storywriting is well done, too, I guess.

A solid rock album, but nothing that grabbed hold of me

Miss Judy's Farm 4/5 You're So Rude 4/5 Love Lives Here 3/5 Stay with Me 4/5 Debris 4/5 Memphis 4/5 Too Bad 4/5 That's All You Need 3/5

Lot of hots on here, and didn't realize Rod Stewart was in a band before he was Rod Stewart.

Some kind of interesting stuff, liked that it was pretty fast paced but wasn’t that captivating

Pleasant, middle of the road 70s pop rock album.

First time listen for me. The Brits took blues and did a pretty decent job of reinterpretation. Slick playing, rod Stewart's vocals are a highlight. Not so sure the lyrical content stands up as well nowadays. Solid album though.

Buen disco, me gustó. Mis canciones favoritas Memphis y Stay With Me. Buen disco, hasta ahí.

Who knew Rod Stewart was in a band at one point!? Not me, but unmistakably his vocals. Easy enough to listen to but unlikely to revisit again

Some how knew some of these songs?

This is a cool album and I really dig it.

fav songs: miss judy's farm you're so rude stay with me swagger, loose, cheeky 60/100

Rod really rocks I don't care what you say.

kinda generic 70’s rock but still enjoyable, the guitar solos are warm and fun

This was when I learned Rod Stewart was in Faces…. This was good! 3.5

Nice old rock 'n roll. Good early Rod Stewart. Faces always seem to be such a forgotten band, they were pretty good!

Rod's voice. 'Stay With Me'.

Very very average.

decent. I guess.

Some songs I knew beforehand without the artist name, but generally just alright for rock

Yeah, this was about as good as Faces ever got, which, if I'm being honest, is really pretty mediocre. Kind of interesting to hear it now as a moment in time when a band was in the process of losing their one bona fide superstar.

Alright classic rock. I know a handful of musicians from other bands were in this one but without knowing it that it didn't stand out much to me

Listened while doing work on the computer. Didn't know Rod Stewart was in a competent but fairly boring band before he was a solo star. A competent but fairly boring and forgettable album.

it's passable but that's about it!

Nice classic rock album but nothing too memorable or outstanding. Would listen to it again tho.

3/5 Not very memorable, but it had some okay songs.

Rod Stewart sounds so young!

Stay With Me is a great song, and I like Rod Stewart around this time, but the rest of the album is just whatever.

Stabil trea.

Eh, it's fine. Fairly generic 70s blues rock. I'm not the biggest fan of Rod Stewart, but this album was pleasant enough.

stay with me is pretty good, rest of the album is boring

Not bad, from before Sir Rod started to question if he was sexy

Perfectly fine

Nice songs, nice vibe. Nothing to really blow me away though

Pleasant enough, nothing really stands out. I did enjoy hearing Rod as it was a surprise to me that he was singing some of the lead vocals.

I don't like giving too many threes, but I feel like this was a pretty middle of the road early 70s rock album.

I’m ok with this, it’s just fine. Nothing really special about it or bad about it. It just is.

It was decent. Stay With Me is the only one I’ve known but have always quite liked it. I do enjoy Rod’s voice and have never been exposed to his later cheesier stuff living in the US so it’s quite funny seeing the amount of hate he generates. Rating: 3.4

Álbum gostosinho

Excellent sounding album.

So, this is weird to review. It does sound pretty right. Stay with Me is a good song. Rod Stewart has a good voice

The mixing works great on the car stereo, but is even better on headphones. There was a point where I declared that this sounded like Rod Stewart. Later found out it is. That overall is the issue. His voice just has a ceiling. I enjoyed the track Love Lives Here. It was better while driving. Everything was fine, but nothing really moved me. Ultimately this was a 3 point something, that just becomes a 3.

It was fine

Fine if not particularly noteworthy. Stay with Me and Memphis were solid and everything else was fine but not memorable to me.

It was okay. I was really hoping it would be better.

Enjoyable album except for the cover of “Memphis, Tennessee”, holy hell that was horrible.

Solid album, but repetitive. It sounds quite Stonesy sometimes, but overall there’s solid playing and some really good riffs. I don’t think this is a go to album, as I’d rather throw on Sticky Fingers, but again it’s not bad by any means. Of course the most famous track, stay with me, is the best one on the album.

High three, i liked this! Good job rod stewart

I didn't know Rod Stewart was in a band before going solo, which is part of why this project has been so fun so far. This album didn't really click for me and I tended to like the songs where it wasn't Stewart singing anyways.

I’ve never liked Rod Stewart so this one was facing an uphill battle from the get go. First 3-4 tracks I really wasn’t feeling it and we were heading towards one star territory but from Stay With Me onwards it started to pick up. Stand out track for me by a country mile was Memphis. Loved it and I will make a point to check out the Chuck Berry original later on. Top Track - Memphis

A very funky feel to it. The album is very much of its time, the blend of psychedelic and funk ideals blended within rock. I do love the raspy voice of the lead singer. This is 100% a drive-in-the-car type album. It could probably grow on me after a few listens.

Yeah, it is Rod Stewart. I cant hate it, but it sure sounds similar no matter what you call the band.

I know nothing by Faces but "Ooh La La", but I did have an ex obsessed with Rod Stewart...so let's see. I took no notes while listening to this album. I really enjoyed it. I'm not sure if I HAD to listen to it before I died, but I'm glad I did. It's a fun album, and I'd listen to it again. I'd give it a 3.5 if I could.

Forgot Rod Stewart was in a band before going solo. Anyways, solid blues rock album. Some really good tracks, but mostly falling into being burnt out on this type of blues rock.

It was fine. Didn’t really think about Rod Stewart being in a band before this. Also this is my second time hearing the song Memphis, the first time being on Buck Owen’s I’ve Got a Tiger By The Tail and I actually prefer Buck Owen’s version.

la banda del puto rod stewart lol moooooooooolt xulo stay with me i you're so rude cançons top

These songs were very catchy, and I love this style of music. I added most of the songs to my library, so I can definitely say this was an album I enjoyed. With that being said, however, I don't really understand it's inclusion on this list. Was it a really influential album during it's time? My opinion is biased since I wasn't alive when it was released; but there's nothing in here that really sounds unique to me. After all, how influential could this band have been if this is my first time ever hearing about them? I don't know, is that a bad position to have? In conclusion, I liked it, but I also think I could have died without hearing it and I wouldn't be missing out on anything. So it's a 3/5.

Great album but I was clipping my nails while listening and one frickin flew up into my eye and then it got stuck there and it hurt like hell bc it got trapped like under my eyelid and it was like this stabbing pain where if I moved it even a bit my vision would get blurry and then as I was getting a towel for it my eyes started watering and like dispelled it, and this wasn’t like a chip of a nail it was a pretty good sized one anyway yeah good album though, not perfect by any means but pretty good, first song is unhinged which makes sense bc I have a rly unhinged best friend who likes this band. My eye is turning red now and is incredibly dry and it hurts to blink that can’t be good.

Iconische bandleden!

The propulsive, good natured boogie from the band drives the record along nicely and won me over in the end. They sound like a very polished blues bar band. The vocals and lyrics are foregrounded and unignorable which is fine when they suit my sensibilities but at points sound hokey or harsh. As long as the vocals are pointed towards lifting spirits and keeping things fun I tend to be on board!

Unremarkable. Rod Stewart has a great voice in his early days

This was alright

Fun listen

Seems very mid, I get that the Faces is part of rock history, but really not sure if this one deserves the spot on the list. Very average sounding blues rock album, not terrible, bit definitely not great, at most can be 3 stars.

Decent little jammy record, though not much stood out in this one. I liked the more tender moments here, like the entirety of the song 'Love Lives Here', which has this '70s Chicago style feel to it, which was pretty refreshing and well-executed. The other softer song, 'Debris,' has this super familiar lead vocal melody and leans into a more country-rock vibe more than anything. I find this album has the variety of a typical Rolling Stones album. Maybe the highlight was the last 2 minutes of the song 'Memphis', which is maybe the only time I really hear the "Boogie Rock" in this supposedly Boogie Rock album, specifically in the piano, but the whole piece itself is super groovy. Not much else stood out here. I found this was just a band that blends into the mix with many other bands in their lane. Still well-executed enough and a solid listen.

I didn't really listen to this, but in passing it was much better than the solo Rod Stewart album we listened to.

I’m preprogrammed to dislike Rod Stewart, but this was pretty listenable.

better than any rod stewart album I've ever heard. guess that's not saying a lot though. seriously. why was that guy famous? is it a harry styles twink thing that I don't get?

I did not expect Rod Stewart to be fronting up this album on vocals having never heard of Faces… but it’s safe to say after the first couple of tracks I was pleasantly surprised. The upbeat, folk-rock tracks such as ‘Miss Judy’s Farm’ and ‘Stay With Me’ have a vibrance & energy to them that I really enjoy. The slower tracks don’t leave the same mark, but overall this was a very decent listen.

I can see why this would have been massively important to anyone who happened to be at that perfect age when it was released. It's a fun album, good music, and I can hear the influence it's had throughout. It got a bit samey after a bit, but was still enjoyable.

Not good, not bad, just… there I guess. The instrumentals were interesting, tho I found the album kinda bland, just another rock album to have in the background.

🥇stay with me 🥈debris 🥉too bad HM: memphis, you’re so rude

Overall feel and attitude is great, cool guitar parts throughout and Rod’s vocals and swagger are right on the money. Not sure why Ronnie Lane is singing some of the songs, really sounds like 2 bands on this record because of that.

iconic sound. Pure and raw Rock.

Liked it more than expected

Don't mind it

A good old 3 star experience. I liked the tubes a lot and happy I got to listen to the hits. Also enjoyed reading about the back story of the faces and small faces.

3.7 Loved the early Rod Stewart, fun rock album

I liked the first song, this, it would be 3!

the 70's sound will always be near and dear to my ears. but this was just okay.

3.5 Southern Rock from the UK? Finally figured it out when I heard TennERsee.

Didn't have the band's hits.

Quite liked it I think but I've also kinda forgotten it already.

Pretty fun

I haven’t listened yet but I will

I enjoyed it but it wouldn’t go in my regular rotation. I’d maybe like to hear it again from time to time.

Medium like. Stay With Me is a classic though

You absolutely must listen to this Celtic Da album.

Alright album. Nothing much I can really say about it, since it’s pretty average. Debris is probably my favorite off it, and I appreciated the steel drums at the end of the album. That’s really it though.

Decent mid bluesy rock and roll. Not a big fan of Stewart's vocals but Ronnie Lane might be worse. Still, this album and this band, had some nice, tight chemistry. Also, a bit notable for influencing the Replacements and reminds me of Big Star in places.

A pretty nice, easy listen. Rod Stewart’s voice is incredibly recognizable. I personally think the inclusion of Stewart’s solo work is sufficient for the list. The inclusion of this one is a little redundant.

Like a mellower Rolling Stones? I like the electric piano and some of the tunes but it was a bit middle of the road for me.

Surprising supergroup!

This was some good ole classic early seventies guitar/piano fueled blues rock. Doesn't stand out necessarily and all sounds the same, but still good. It is way more of a fun curiosity listen since it is Rod Stewart before anyone knew who he was, and Ronnie Wood before he joined the Rolling Stones. Stay With Me, That's All You Need, and Debris were highlights. I liked the other lead singer songs better than the Stewart ones!

Blind album, know the artist by name. Love the blues synth style in general, but nothing stood out.

That's quite the title, boys. I'm a sucker for this kind of music, bluesy, rocky, British, organ, Rod Stewart. It's a fun time even if it is a bit homogonous.

Who is all making up this band? Is this a super group?

It started promising, but as it was playing it faded into the background. It's an enjoyable listen since I like the genre in general, but it's heavily generic, taking absolutely no risks and just delivering predictable, listenable music. I listened from start to finish and haven't had a single song catch my attention or stick in my memory, but at least I didn't suffer through it.

# Playlist Track - Too Bad # Notes - A fun, easy listening album. - It lacked memorable moments, but was pretty nice throughout. - Never heard of Faces before, open to listening more.

The rock and roll pedigree is hard to ignore here

Good stones style rock based rhythm and blues, hits the spot tight enjoyed

Considering this is a dreaded Rod Stewart vehicle, it's actually not all that bad really. His stupid singing ruins quite a bit of it, but the band give a nice bluesy swagger in the main, and it's quite good fun. And actually, despite definitely not one bit ever wanting to give Rod any credit, Stay With Me is probably his finest vocal effort. It has - and this is rare from him - actual emotion instead of a cheap facsimile of it.

I don’t know much about Faces, to the point when I started listening I immediately thought this sounds a bit like a Rod Stewart fronted, Rolling Stones tribute act, then it quickly occurred that Rod Stewart is the lead singer. This is pretty decent to listen to yet I can help thinking I’ve been tricked into listening to Rod Stewart. It has some good songs but I’m not sure how likely I am to return to it.

Stay With Me is still a pretty good song. Otherwise the album is fine.

Rod Stewart vocals with bluesy tunes - pretty cool sound

An album that makes you want to BOOZE and reflect in equal measures. The transition from Stay with Me to Debris captures this perfectly. An extra star for only being thirty six minutes long - the ideal time for any rock 'n' roll album.

Cool guitar sound and riff to start right from the jump, kind of like the much more modern band Black Keys. Pretty cool guitar parts throughout actually, I really feel like this is a guitar-forward band where that's the root of the tracks and everything is built off of that. Thankfully it's pretty tasteful stuff on top too and nothing that really hurts that direction. Nice little classic rock album. I didn't even realize for a bit that Rod Stewart was the vocalist but he's an amazing singer and sounds great here.

This was an enjoyable but unremarkable listen.

This was fine, I didn't find it to be anything special.

Band is good but it sounds like other 70’s blues rock I wish there was something more unique to the sound and songwriting. Why would you have anyone other than rod stewart sing lead in this band? The rod songs are so much better. favs were Love lives here and Stay with me. I like the upright on debris.

Rod stewart has a cool voice, my favorite thing about the album is how the drums sound, which im assuming is a glyn johns production. Songwriting is pretty forgettable except stay with me. Great song but i feel like the criteria here should be “great album” and not “album with one or two great songs”

I like rod steward and that’s my only take away

Året efter kom Never a dull moment. Bäst i Miss Judy’s farm och Love loves here och Too bad.

Stark trea.

This just feels like good, but dated music. Ooh la la!

Not sure if it was anything special then, but it does sound pretty generic 70s rock. 7/10

A strong current running through the album, music, lyrics and guitars. The two vocalists doesn't really work. It was unfortunate that RL was in the same band as RS with his distinct and powerful delivery, as he was a fine singer.

Perfectly good early 70s rock. Rod Stewart’s voice is Rod Stewart’s voice, so take that how you will. It was ok.

I don't know about this one... Rod Stewart's vocals are a bit grating. It's kinda what I'd expect from a release around 1970. Instrumentally, it's okay. Boomer rock music.

This was fine. Nothing to write home about. Nothing to love, nothing to hate.

Wow, this is certainly an album by British rock band, Faces! I thought it was definitely music and also rock. Instruments were present, as well as vocals. I would absolutely say this is an album!

++: You're So Rude, Stay with Me, Debris, Too Bad +: Miss Judy's Farm, Last Orders Please, Memphis, That's All You Need +-: Love Lives Here 6,7/10

Cool 70s rock

Ehhh it's decent. Not too shabby.

I love Rod Stewart's early songs and this band aught to be talked about way more than they are. They are the up there with the rolling stones.

Ordentlicher ehrlicher Rock aus den 70ern .

There were some seriously great songs here, and some that just immediately faded away. Struggled a lot with whether to give this a 3 or a 4 -- I think it's sort of a generic 70s rock album, but I also feel like it's a pretty darn good 70s rock album. That said, I'm going with 3. There's just enough here that's decent at best. Fave songs: - Love Lives Here - Stay with Me - Debris - Too Bad Edit: Maybe I like this more than I thought? Still hesitating to give it a four, but I gotta come back to this one more.

This feels like an okay album, one that’s solid for a deep record collection to through on for time to time, but ultimately an “okay” album that is a slight head scratcher for including on the 1001 albums list. Stewart sounds great here and the band performance is good, but other than Stay With Me nothing jumps out to my ears.

This album's good. I'm tired right now, so I'll be brief with this one. This is my final album of the list to have Rod Stewart on vocals. Cool. His voice has kind of grown on me over time, and it feels especially fitting on this album's songs to the point where I prefer his vocals over Ronnie Lane's vocals, but I'm still not huge on him at large. This album's got some good energy. Songs like "Stay With Me" do feel a bit dated, but are still fun listens. I do really love that song. "Debris" is cool too. It's definitely Ronnie Lane's best song on here. The writing is a bit "of its time" but isn't too egregious. The sounds are cool. Very good instrumentation. This is a somewhat flawed album that's definitely aged, but is also fun, short, and a good time. High 3/5.

1971 I've heard a smattering of these tracks before. The singles stand out, but the album is a good solid '70s rocker. I probably won't go back as there's too much music in the world and not enough minutes left. Silly album title. Heard before ❌️ Listened this time ✅️ Revisit ❌️ Solid ★★★☆☆ (6/10)

Besides "Stay With Me," I just felt there wasn't a lot there. Ronnie Lane's vocals were okay, I guess. I kind of wanted them to do a different kind of song for his vocals, because it just made me think "How much better would this have sounded if Rod Stewart sang it?" It's not a one hit wonder album, but the song is just so well-known it made me feel like the other songs couldn't possibly compare. It was... mid, at best. Top tracks: "Stay With Me"

Solid rod stew worth saving

Unnecessary Memphis cover, too much Rockin Rod Stewart for my taste. Would not revisit white ppl blues. Not terrible, but also not amazing.

Debris was the highlight of the album for me. Rod Stewart always seems like a bit of a punch line, but the vocals were good on this album, and I would listen to it again

Solid enough blues rock. Rod Stewart has sort of this almost incomparable rasp to his voice like he smoked 3 packs a day for years (even though he is apparently only 28 here). For me the standout is the keyboard work (intro to Stay with Me is pretty iconic) as well as some of Ronnie Wood's guitar playing - you can hear what he brought over to the Stones in just a few years from when this was recorded. Fun Chuck Berry cover. Didn't knock my socks off mostly but competent and good energy.

i had some fun with this album. i could at least see why this could be included on the list. their sound, i have to imagine, was a bit more unique for the time and i think really ended up becoming a bit more popular later down the line. all in all, a solid listen

not too bad

Competent—especially the stretch from “Stay with Me” through “Memphis.” I wouldn’t say anything here was close to essential, though.

Standard pub/dad rock. Rod Stewart is a great rock singer of course. Not sure why they let that other dude have a go.

- if the Rolling Stones weren't the Rolling Stones, basically - usually I'm way more likely to enjoy an album's first two or three tracks than later ones, but the last three here were noticeably good to me - the Rolling Stones did a lot of hanging out in one key and just jamming, but after a while it can sound old or a little boring (we get it, "start you up and never stop," etc. -- or maybe it's just too much radio play?). This band seems to do he same thing, but it sounds a lot more palatable and fun as opposed to listeners wondering when it will finally end (by the way, did you know there are 120+ "woo-woos" in "Sympathy for the Devil"?) - Rod Stewart has a great voice for this type of music, but as I understand it, his solo career eventually overshadowed this group and its other members -- so maybe *too* good - all in all, a pretty solid and fun album that I enjoyed and would listen to again on a summer car ride with the windows down

61/1089 I was anticipating not really enjoying this but was pleasantly surprised. It had a great atmosphere and quality to it, it didn’t feel dated in terms of the production. Instead it felt like it held up, the second half in particular. faves: That’s All You Need, Too Bad, Debris 3 stars or /100

Sounds mostly like other 70s rock?

It’s good, classic rock and roll.

One of the wife's favorites.

Didn't really know any of these apart from "Stay With Me" but I thought this was a nice listen.

Enjoyable when listening to it, but not something that gives you an urge to repeatedly come back to. Stay With Me is a great song but the album as a whole is not mindblowing. Still, it was a fun listen

I'm always hearing and enjoying Stay With Me. Chur Rodders

its aight

I recognised Rod Stewart's vocals immediately lol, but I don't think I've heard any of their music before. A bit meh for me.

I knew two songs without ever knowing of Faces. Stewart's voice was immediately recognizable. Stay With Me was not a Rod Stewart song and all these years, Faces was unknown to me. Go figure. As for the music, kind of fun, not particularly interesting to me though.

I still don't like Rod Stewart but this album was better then i was expecting.

Sort of a rubbish Stones

3 stars for the 2 Ronnies plus one Rod

Some decent tracks on here, consistent enough, but didn’t really grab me beyond the songs I already knew

A couple of great songs, quite a few average ones.

Some nice sleazy rock n’ roll, even if I sometimes think I’d rather just be listening to Exile on Main Street again.

Ok, but very sad rock.

It's fine. Nothing special though. Has Rod Stewart too, that's cool I guess

*1971. English rock. *Stay With Me was the only song I knew. *I didn't realize there was another vocalist besides Rod Stewart. *Pretty good overall and pretty much exactly what you'd expect. RATING - 6.5/10

Nothing amazing but pretty fun to listen to.
